Fresh update on "kevin harvick" discussed on The Final Lap
"All right, looking back at the drivers we picked for you last week, Ross Chastain, Kevin Harvick, and Kyle Busch. Ross Chastain pretty solid race on the day, pretty much hung out in the top ten, never led laps, but was a solid pick coming home in the 7th place, pulling four stage points on the day. Not doubling down like I was hoping. But still managed to come in 6th in the fantasy rankings. Not a bad day for him. Kevin Harvick also a real good day. I did not like what I saw out of him in practice. He was running somewhere around 28th, 29th. Can't say he was sandbagging. There's no reason why he would. So I took him out of my lineup, even though he had a good qualifying position. They must have put Emeril is set up in his car, and he ran with it. And boy did he. He was running in the top ten all day long, pulled 9 stage points. Finished in the tenth spot ultimately overall on the day, but also came home 6th most in the fantasy points. Again, not a bad day for Kevin Harvick. Kind of upset with myself for not putting him in my lineup and trusting the numbers. But it's a different year. The stat book, it may or may not help this year. As we have clearly seen. Now looking at the 18 car Kyle Busch, he also had a stellar day. Running up in the front, but I also pulled him from my lineup because his qualifying was a bit lacking. And a guy like Kyle Busch, I want to try to get stage points out of him in both stages. And if I don't see that possibility, I'm going to bench him and put somebody else in there using him for another day. Now he did make his way up, almost into the top ten by the first stage, showing how powerful this Toyota's where this weekend, and he ran up front, leading laps, dogfighting with the rest of the Toyota's on the day. But that late pit stop, I don't know what they were thinking. I'm not a crew chief, but I was screaming at the TV, wondering what they were doing and why they were pitting out of second place when the leader did not come in. It ultimately pulled him down to 13th in the fantasy standings, but he did manage ten stage points on the day, finishing 21st. Those ten stage points helped keep him alive. Not a horrible pick, but again, a bad decision by a lot of Toyota's hurt a lot of people and their fantasy lineups for the weekend. All right, why don't you say we take a look at some drivers for road America. So looking at road America, I'd hate to reach for that low hanging fruit, but I have to do it this week with Chase Elliott's win last weekend. That team is building a lot of momentum right now coming off that win at Nashville. And looking at the last 14 races, Chase has run, his average Finnish position on road courses is 6.9. He's got ten top 5s, 11 top ten finishes, and 6 wins in that period. You're looking at a 70 to 80% chance at a top ten finish. Now looking last year, chase started in the back of the field, made his way to the front and finished ahead of the field. In fact, I think he was in victory lane celebrating when some of the other drivers were still finishing their laps. Now if you plan on using the 9 car, be aware, he will not be going for those stage points. He's going for the win. You'll have to balance out your lineup this weekend with drivers that need points and drivers that would be going for the win. But that being said, this may be a good week to try a contrarian pick, hoping that the 9 car has issues also keeping in mind you can save him for a track or he will score those stage points, which will carry you further toward the end of the season. Last year, the 24 and the 8 both stayed out to claim stage victories, but both drivers were stuck deep back in the pack and had difficulty making up any track position, but the stage points worked in their favor in the end with a relatively decent point day for fantasy players. So now we're getting pretty deep into the season. You're probably looking at your driver picks and how many you have left and you may want to start digging a little deeper into the pack. So let's take a look at some drivers that might help spread your lineup, carrying it through the season a bit further. We'll start with the 34 car of Michael McDowell. He's got a lot of laps run at road American in the Xfinity series, and is the second in laps led category to AJ almond dinger. Looking at his Xfinity stats, he's got 5 races at road America. His average finish there is 16.4. And in those 5 races, he's got two top 5s and two top tens that's 40% chance at a top 5 or a top ten for McDowell. Now, Mike McDowell is one of those guys you'll have to look at just for what have you done for me lately. He's recently been putting together solid races on the ovals and he came home with a P three at Sonoma, which exemplifies just that. He is super comfortable in this new car which is quite similar to the cars that he drove earlier in his career. And so he could play spoiler and take home a victory on Sunday. One thing to note this weekend that practice will not be televised so be sure and look up those times before you make your decision on who to put in your lineup. All right, and once again looking a little deeper into the field, let's take a look at the two car Austin syndrome. We're looking back 5 races, on road courses for him. He's got an average finish of 17. He's got one top 5, three top tens, and 17 laps led. That's about a 60% chance at a top ten for him. Looking back at those 5 races, Sonoma, he came in 5th place this season. Coda, he came in 8th place, both of those were in the number two Ford, but last season at the indie road course he ran 9th place in the 33 Ford, wrote America was not so good for him, finishing the 38th position and coda last.

"Mustang was good all weekend. But we just have a catastrophic failure at least once or maybe twice a weekend, so we can't figure that out, but we got back as far as we could. Guess it is what it is. He also said we looked like a bunch of wankers. He said you should have finished at least second. And he was asked, you know, what could have been better in Harvick and that Harvick sarcasm way replied, well, don't have a 22nd pit stop for whatever that is what could have been better. Parker from Kevin Hart because I know you know him well and I know he really respects you as an interview as a journalist. So you've got a good window in him. We've heard him criticize his pit crew before, but not for a while. And this is kind of surprising to hear it from later stage career Kevin Harvick. And I'm wondering if maybe the tension, he still doesn't have the win, the tension of being outside that cut line and trying to make this play off. The specter of perhaps missing the playoffs might be looming here. Well, I love that he's obviously watching a lot of Formula One and maybe he lets influence because the use of wanker. It's amazing. Yeah. It sounds just like panther. I mean, maybe he's gonna hang around the Haas F one guys. I don't know. I don't know, but I love that. I thought that quote was pretty funny. I get his frustration. I actually had, we used Stuart house pit crews on my truck team. And we had a our final stop we had an issue on the right front. We worked all day to get to the top 5. I felt like, you know, with a good stop there, it puts us in position to be top three. And we lost 8 spots on pit road, the final stop. And was able to fight back the 7th, but it probably took us from being top three on the day. And that was one of the more deflating moments I've had in the car this year, was working that hard, driving, you know, passing so many cars, putting ourselves in position and thinking, all right, just put me out in the same position and I've done all the work and to lose 8 spots on pit road, you know, having a similar 20 some odd second stop was just devastating, right? I don't know if I felt that in a while because it goes back to what you can and can not control, right? You as a driver did everything you were supposed to do. You put yourself in a position, you're driving the car right, you set it up right when the crew chief and your team, Rodney has called the right strategy. You put yourself in position and you get let down, it's really infuriating position. And I know that they have had those issues, and I know Kevin has always been really hard on his pick cruise, but he is a person that demands excellence. You have to understand Kevin Harvick would have been he would have been successful if he chose to be an NFL quarterback and NBA player or racer member. I know height in that sort of stuff. Physicality, but I mentally, as a competitor as an athlete, that guy is incredible at turning it on and being absolutely perfect and doing the work behind the scenes to be perfect. You know, I think people know him for so long in this sport and seeing that they see the public side of his frustration when it doesn't go right. And if the run ins he's had, but he is a top level driving talent who works as hard if not harder than anyone else out there, right? And for the last 20 years, right? Like he has been doing that in a consistent basis. He demands excellence. And I can tell you that my crew chief Chris carrier worked at KI for a couple of years. And he took marvels all the time. He's like, man, I never saw anyone who was more, it was harder on his people, but not because he was mean. It was because he demanded them to put in the same amount of effort and level of perfection that he does. And that was like when kh when they were deciding on suspension pieces or steering boxes to buy. He'd be like, nope, this is what we're doing. This is why we're doing it, and he would ask questions of like, why? Why? Pushing people to find the answers to understand. Put all that and knowing all that behind him, I think you get to a position where he's in, where this next gen car is maybe been a learning experience, right? He's not ready to hang it up. That's pretty evident. He wants to win. He wants to prove it, he still can. He does all the right things and has a day that's looking like he's going to do that. And it gets taken away from a mistake, right? And so the frustration is going to boil over and he just sat in that hot car for a couple hours and done his job and didn't his job leading up to it the week before and done the Sims stuff and everything and get it all right. And it gets taken away. That's a really frustrating place to be. And I'm sure they will continue to evaluate the pictures because you just can't have that for a guy like Kevin. I don't think anyone can, but a guy like him, you've got to make sure when you're through House race, you know, he's your franchise guy. You've got to really push your people to be perfect around them. Yeah, the clock is ticking and he knows that. And I think you're right. That exacting demand for perfection is what has made him a championship level driver and makes him so great. And your other point, he is struggled with next gen, like a lot of veterans at times, but he comes into Sonoma and really adapts impressive. And I want to touch on the dynamics of next gen on the road course Parker because you got a really interesting tweet that you said that watching this car on road courses as you put it is awesome because of how an almost every corner you have enough ability to take some lunges at people in the braking zones, but yet it's changing constantly. I heard true XI on the pre ratio that he had to adapt to the fact this thing has more breaks than tire and obviously wheel hop isn't the thing anymore and we've.

"But I can say that in time that I've been in the position where a teammate is maybe faster and you're going through that checklist of like, hey, how are they doing this? We've got all the same stuff. We got the same information. Like, what are they doing, right? And it can really drive you down either a dark hole or it can be something that you utilize and be like, okay, this is how I grow this, I get better. This is why we have teammates. This is where I can learn from them and really lean in to be like, okay, what are they doing differently? How can I use some of what they're doing well? What do I do well? You look for those areas. Maybe it's breaking in a certain corner or getting back the throttle on the exit and another corner where you're a little bit better and it sort of consistent theme and you sort of build on that and say, okay, that's what I do well and they can learn from me. So what can I learn from them? Okay, they're better here, they're better here, they're better there, right? And I think that really for drivers is a key way to attack sort of using a teammate and also having a teammate that is doing better than you. While keeping your confidence, right? Because as I alluded to, that confidence is what creates your speed. It makes you make the right decisions. It tightens the time between a decision being made and sort of acknowledging something happening. And that's the end all be all racing because everything happens in split seconds, right? So if those decisions take any longer than a split second, that time at length that length, any longer it gets, the more room there is for mistakes, for issues, that sort of thing. So I think if you're seeing that team that's been so successful, have a little kinks in their armor or just be human, right? That does absolutely sort of ease your thoughts of like, they are going to, they're going to win ten races. I'm never going to win a race and I'm out of here, right? Because drivers go that way. It's funny. We're very insecure. No matter what we say, we are. And it's just because and I said it according to the joint I was talking about this. And the reason being, I said, unlike any other sport, one of the things we see the most in racing that is so different is that there are so much out of our control. There's this metal component between us and success that unlike any other sport, we can't control. We can't make sure that everything is right. And so I think one of the things he was asking about was I've kind of alluded to it being now 31 now I'm driving better than I ever have. And I said, one of the things that I've learned is I know what I can and can not control now. And I know what's important. And I think that's really key for drivers to keep it confidence. And I think you see that from a driver like a Daniel sword. She's been in the Cup Series for a 195 stars. He has learned and even in this new car, his building process and all the work he puts behind the scenes is in controlling the things he can control, making sure that those are corrects that he puts his best performance out every single time he steps in that race car every single lap every corner. And that's important. It's not just on the races. It's not just, you know, latent race. It means every single time you step into that car, you are perfect. And you're on it. And I think that's really key to where, you know, you're able to keep your confidence and go do what he did in the Spence weekend. That's a really good insight, especially about the insecurity of drivers. I want to go back to another driver who might be feeling a little insecure about things lately. Unfortunately, that's Kevin Harvick. Might have had the best car at Sonoma. I mean, he certainly thought that they were probably podium top two quality, but unfortunately has this really bad mediocre pit stop on his final time into the pits and that pretty much cost him. He can't recover from that on a road course. So Harvick said afterward. Kevin Harvick finished fourth and I know that's a good finish for you. They've got to be disappointing when you had that opportunity and had the long pit stop. How do you describe what happened there? Yeah, our gear ends Ford Mustang was good all weekend. But we just have a catastrophic failure at least once or maybe twice a weekend, so we can't figure that out, but we got back as far as we could..

"For the four spots at phoenix. So how'd you size up what's to come Denny hamlin and kyle. Larson is what i size up when i look at the We can talk about. I know kyle busch has been very good at the tracks coming up Recently but i think as if you put cow larson has been the best on these mile and a half in in my mind Even though at las vegas Once he got back in the pack they weren't able to recover. I think they had a terrible strategy there. I think they probably learned from that. And they'll be better with their driver but and has just been fantastic in these playoffs. I mean you know. We all sat and wondered. Why can't win these races in those first twenty six. But he's put himself in position. And i i believe there too. They're going to battle it out. I believe when we get to phoenix. And you know it's a it's a matter of who else is going to jump in there. You know who are going to be those other two. I really believe that the. I'm pretty sure. That larson and danny are probably going win. one of these three racists each so that's gonna leave one other for somebody to win and it might not even be a playoff driver the way this thing's going but you know who who's going to gather enough point who can do that. I i think if you look at it you have to believe i think ryan blaney is going to surprise a lot of people. I think that he could win. One of these next two races. I know martinsville's not his best shot. But i think that One of these next mile and a half. He's the penske driver that i look at and say it could possibly win one next to definitely somebody keep an eye on. I agree with you larsen and hamlin. I mean races. They've got four victories. Certainly feels like we'll see them get victory lane and also we'll be keeping an eye of course on chase elliott and kevin harvick see. What's the come there. Dj always a pleasure on nascar nbc. Larson wins Charlotte as Elliott and Harvick continue feud
"This is the kind of day championships are made up Kyle Larson's team change dot two batteries and replaced an alternator belt during the race and he still was able to pick up his seventh win of the year I didn't expect to win this we had a good greens like cycle and and you know jump a lot of people there how to get restart lined up towards the front Larson took the lead on a restart with eight laps left and held off Tyler Reddick for his first win on the wrongful it also gives them a sweep of the Charlotte races this season there was also some pay back drama Kevin Harvick put the chase Elliott to deliver on a promise from a month ago at Bristol Brett McMillan Concord North Carolina

"Rarely has if you really think about it. Nascar rarely steps in on these incidences. So if you're chase elliott you're like hey you took a win for me so i'm gonna make it hard for you to win this race and if your harvick you're like do racing at bristol like it was i got got inside of you. I didn't mean to wreck you. I just got cut. What are you doing racing incident. Revenge doesn't fit. What happened here in harvard situation. Harvick's opinion no. it doesn't and chases it does. i wonder i have to wonder though if you. If you're chasing you go back and watch the incident and you see harvey get loose if he doesn't feel a little bit. Well maybe you didn't understand the whole story now. You can make as well if you hadn't been driving so hard he wouldn't have you know you can make all those cases but this to me was a different situation than raw raw said okay. I'm gonna run my line which happens to be the line of the leader. I'm that's going to hurt him as go help my team mate in this case i don't think chase was helping his teammate. And i think chase was wrong. Would he did because it hurts his championship hopes. Why are you going to give cow larson. More points to do battle with you. Why are you going to make his pathway to home to phoenix even easier. Yeah even if he's teammate. You'd rather have kevin harvick by playoff points. Then they were you know. No disrespect to kevin harvick but the neck if kevin harvick and his team you can get through the next races next three races. They've they're magicians. Because they haven't had any speed on the mile and a half they have not been good at all in the row courses and you got talladega. The first three races went straight into their wheelhouse for this year. These next three races go directly out of their wheelhouse. So why did you give larsen more ammunition to beat you. Yeah i like to me. It doesn't make sense. I would rather go against this year. I'd rather go against the weakness of what harvick's team has had the strength of. What kyle larson maybe baby. You don't think that through in the heat of the moment. But you know as i was watching that i'm thinking that's very smart. Move payback in racing. Should be when it's good for you. Not when it's bad for the other guy and this indirectly could hurt chase. Elliott hurt yourself. Yeah that's a great point. If i hadn't even thought of it that way but you're right about harvick second round is not a great round when you look at how. He's run on road courses recently. I don't think the rover fits well. And for whatever reason talladega superspeedway racing has been great for that team. Either but i wanna ask you. Because i know you said in the broadcast your talk to harvick last week and we talked to improve race in his media ability and i was struck like he was in such a good mood. I mean he seems like he's in a really good place it might have been you know we learned yesterday morning. That his crew chief rodney children's it just signed a contract extension so the four is together. They've survived a lot of adversity. The season they've overcome some slow cars talked at length about that before the race saturday night at bristol but yet he had this calmness about were just seemed as if he knew how good he was going to be that night and it seems as if the fourteen is getting some of their mojo back here. I'm sure that compounded why you so angry and all the frustration. All the emotions boiling over but nearly a year. Now since that teams last victor does it seem as if maybe they're turning corner. I mean we've seen kevin harvick turn it on. Two thousand seventeen made the championship round when he didn't have a great regular season. Does it seem like if he can get through this round. It seem like they're starting to turn the corner. It seems like it. The trouble lab. God is that we were having been at tracks. Were the weaknesses have been. I think that they could go to richmond and compete for a top five. I think they could go to wrestle. Compete for a top. Five darlington compete for top five this weekend. If they bring speed this weekend at vegas then i'll be like yeah like. Wow but that's a big. If because i actually watched the race back from the spring in vegas and they laughed him right right. That was the race. Were abuse like multi. What's up and they've gotten better since then because they've recognized their weaknesses. Right and when you recognize your weakness you go to work. And they didn't understand they were going to be that far off and they've gotten better but i haven't. I'm not convinced that they're going to be able to have the pace. You know that. They're going to need to have. I mean they're behind the behind in points and they got. They got to find a way to go out run. They got outrun. Joe gibbs racing. They got out run pinski in order in hendrick in order to get into the next round the playoffs. He can do that. Let's talk about some of these other teams. I mean larson wins the race and all three of his teammates advanced now to the round of twelve. I think a lot of people thought and you said i'm motormouth your concerns about alex. Bowman william byron pulls out a third place finish to advance by a couple of points. That was impressive. The gibbs cars though. I thought also weren't quite as good as we thought they might be. Hamlin was great. Obviously until the the contact with larsen but tricks was a little off and kyle busch talked about being a little off as well also surprise you a little bit or a. I still finished fifth and fantasy. But he's on me and my lineup to is okay. He was gonna do okay and he had that dr gotta tire but but yeah i. Winning speed did not need a one on have winning speed and and yeah it did surprise me. I i really thought ghabush going to bristol was gaddafi. Felt like you know. He's so good at bristol but they never never showed showed pace to win a race. There one run. They showed third fourth place speed but they never showed pace to win a race and true x. either yes yes it did surprise me. It does seem more wide open. The narrative of the first round was three seven fifty races. And the way gives raised darlington and richmond. It seemed like okay. This is the seven fifty team in that narrative. Change certainly saturday night and especially with again. How good the hendrick cars were even kozlowski who i wrote off completely as maybe you're not gonna dance. He ran about as well as he faded. Though he toward the end he and he and the you know they both really honestly blaney either. They just can't kazlauskas ran. Good early out of they just didn't have the pace. They just didn't have the pace that they needed They're not way off but they were. They were off enough. I mean compare when joel gano got put in the back to win chase elliott. He got put in the back. Chase elliott putting the back that you looked up..

"Your fingertips with the pr and mobile app. Download today available in the apple app store and on google play. It was like the good old days at the bristol motor speedway saturday night with drivers fighting mad on pit road. After the checkered flag fell as the opening round of the cup series playoff ended with fireworks between chase elliott and kevin harvick. It cost both a chance to go to victory lane the to climb from their cars to confront each other immediately. I couldn't hear him. He had his helmet on and stuff. But you know. I'm twenty five at least take my helmet off to have a conversation with him and he's forty years old so nothing. New elliott also said it was nothing new harvick did a maneuver that forced him into an unscheduled pit. Stop as they battled for the lead. He gets tired of racing with you. You know he runs on your left side and sometimes it cuts down. That's a move that he pulls often now whether he did it then on purpose or not doesn't matter it's happened enough to me against him. That enough was enough. And i'm not gonna put up with it anymore. Certainly may off with harvick. Trying to hold off teammate. Kyle larson elliott. Came back onto the track aiming to make sure harvick didn't win. I just told him it was chicken what he did. I mean the guy hangs on my right roof indoor every week and we're racing for the lead at bristol and you throw a temper tantrum like that. God dang i wanna rip. Somebody's head off right now. Harvick would eventually wind up the runner up to larson who grabbed his first ever cup win at bristol. Real stay close to kevin and chase was obviously upset with the contact and was just making things kind of tough on him and it kept me in the game and you're able to make some moves on their late so yeah fundraiser have always wanted to win here. Larson Wins at Bristol While Harvick and Elliott Feud
"The night race at Bristol delivered again a pass for the lead with three laps to go once a visible contact after the race was throwing of equipment Kyle Larson chase down and pass Kevin Harvick with three laps to go and held him off for his sixth win of the year and first at Bristol the Larson may have had some help holding off Harvick thanks to his teammate chase Elliott and that led to Harvick's post race confrontation with Elliott which led to a pushing match and Harvick throwing his gloves and Elliott they had to be separated redneck Millen Bristol Tennessee
Denny Hamlin Wins Southern 500 to Open NASCAR Cup Playoffs
"The first of ten NASCAR playoff races saw Danny Hamlin hold off a hard charging Kyle Larson to grab the checkered flag at Darlington Raceway one of these playoffs together was no room for error and you now to fund your ticket to the next round we get to go out there and focus on getting to the second round which I think is probably the most dangerous Larson made a valiant effort on the final lap bumping Hamlin's rear bumper and then as if he was playing a video game banged his car off the wall trying to make the pass seven of the sixteen playoff drivers had issues including Kyle Busch and chase Elliott who suffered wrecked race cars Ross Chastain finished third followed by Martin Truex junior and Kevin Harvick Steve Richards Darlington South Carolina
Is NASCAR's Next Gen Car Safe? Some Drivers Have Questions
"This has got started with with the nascar drivers talking about the reconfiguration of atlanta motor speedway and the and the car. The next gen car and safety concerns with it now. There's a lot of rumors flying around twitter. Which obviously don't don't take anything you see on twitter. Tell me series lead a dummy. Yeah in a crash test. Yeah with the new jenkins died. Yeah so not good good good. We're going to leave the leave that to the twitter rumors because who knows what's true. What's not all that good stuff. However the nascar drivers specifically denny hamlin have been very vocal in the past few weeks about the sanctioning body. Not being communicative. Is that a word communicative not communicating enough to the drivers about. What's going on with the next gen. Car kyle busch was very said very similar things and a few other drivers that were interviewed. Kevin harvick said

Kozlowski is at full song of the long Pond straight away about 20 car lengths, and they'll have part of Ryan Priest between himself and Harvick as Kozlowski leaves turn to heading 23 Kevin Harvick. Some 20 car lengths back behind Brad Keselowski right now is all by himself. On the race track led to the bottom of this can blank through turn number three and pulling away from Kevin Harvick just a bit with preachers car between them The reason it's so important because Kevin Harvick can absolutely make it the distance on fuel. That's why we're watching Harvick. As opposed to Keselowski and Steve Post reported that Jeremy Bolin's Keselowski's crew chief said we have to to judge this three seconds of fuel and how they made the pit stop as to where Harvick is, but Jeff That is not the entire story because there are others trying to stretch the fuel like William Byron. He is actually your race leader. Now he has to conserve to get it the final six laps. Byron making his way to turn three same for Denny Hamlin. Kyle and Kurt Busch. You've got Kyle Larson conserving and then you have Bubba Wallace. All of them would have to run out of fuel to play into the Harvick and Brad Keselowski's hand, so we'll follow the race leader. It is William Byron. Six laps to go. He's headed back to turn number one. And he's outfront by 2.5 2nd. William Byron Saving Everything he can save right now makes his way into turn number one. He's got a lead of about 25 car.
COTAXfinity Recap, Busch Wins
"Nascar xfinity series race recap from circuit of the americas over the weekend. Rain made this one interesting for sure. But kyle busch dominated. He led thirty five of the forty six lap event. Kyle busch spanks the field with an eleven second lead coming to the checkered flag. In his ninety eight th career win in this series I think we had a really good piece. Just overall talking with dinger kind of felt like drive off was probably our biggest thing that we excelled that today. Just being able to keep the rear tires on the car longer being able to get the gas pedal down to make a away longer. Instead of sitting there modulating the gas and kind of playing with it and wasting time to get down that was the biggest thing almoner behind me. He was the closest that could keep up with me for about two laps. But i was always in front of him when we were close to each other. So i didn't I didn't really see how well he was through the ss or You know through the slow section stadium section over there to see if that's if he can make ground on me there keep up with me there or whatever so Yeah that's probably about about it all right. Aj alma dinger ends up second followed by justin all our kevin harvick and austin syndrich rounds out the top. Five point standings like this five to one justin all daniel hamrick. Aj almudena burton. While he is seventy. Seven points. Back of leader austin syndrich. Who has three wins this season op next for the xfinity series charlotte motor speedway one pm eastern saturday. Yeah and that's a second top ten in the season and he's like twenty fifth and points like oh my gosh. She's having such a horrible season. he's actually ahead of where he was last year at this point and if you remember correctly he went on to be in the playoffs. Last year this point he had one top ten and now he has to this year. So maybe maybe just maybe you turn it around daniels whereas with a top ten. That's pretty cool. Yeah and that track team has been really good for an upstart team. Obviously they're bringing in a lot of equipment from our cr and stuff like that but still there's still getting it down with with what they're given so that's a top five and top ten this season. Lots of top fifteen's they're sitting twenty second in points that's not too shabby it's The dovers not easy either. This is not any no he said. Piece a cake track so now and he was holding off. Hamlin there for a while at the end of this thing. Yeah yeah how. Many top ten tyler. Radic had now. It sure feels like he's been top ten every week flicked last eight. He's been up there. I thought so in the last five eight and then of course Born last six you got denny hamlin who basically lives in the top ten. Yeah that's what he does. He just doesn't live in victory lane. This is a problem. There's it's it's been cordoned off with crime scene tape or something. He's not allowed in there. It's sponsored by eps or something. Right and then. Kevin harvick showing signs of life in the last few weeks to so. Yeah so maybe get ready for a return. Victory and for kevin harvick caps. Perhaps maybe Fellow for driver joy lagana at number five.

"kevin harvick" Discussed on KNBR The Sports Leader
"Kevin Harvick on the inside Ryan Newman on the outside Joey Logano right there. Eric L. Merola right. There they come across the line gives the advantage to Kevin Harvick two by two by two all the way back to the field with no offense to Kevin Harvick. There are an awful lot of Ryan Newman fans in the Infield here on the inside of turn Number two. They were standing and cheering when he went to the lead last time. By this time, though, it's Kevin Harvick on the point, Ryan Newman now will raise him the side by side battle with Eric Al Merola. That's for position Number two. Harvick now runs against the double yellow line at the bottom of the racetrack on Al Merola shoves him further out in front, Mr for Belle third car and the inside lane and moves up to that third spot than the side by side racing resumes. With Alex Bowman to the inside of Ryan Newman. For Ford, One of the fastest cars all week. Long has been Eric Calm role in second place Right now, we watched him into one fifties brand so well look good practice. Qualified well, this could be his day because that car is stronger than I've seen in a long time. And it's been solid all through speed week. Eric AM a roll, of course from Tampa, Florida That's a town that's celebrated an awful lot. As of late with the Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl, the Lightning went in the Stanley Cup and, of course, the Tampa Bay Rays. Having a great run in major league Baseball. The field works down the Daytona Super stretch. Jeffs treacle. Kevin Harvick and Eric Al Murad. This field was getting after the little early on, but looks like now the manufacturers are starting to find each other to find some drafting partners. Right now, the Fords have hooked up on the bottom of the race track. Those manufacturers that you're talking about trying to work together and it's always good. Have a teammate with an oval blue or a bow tie or running a Toyota working together right now, Dave Moody. Let's Followem. It's Harvick. Eric L. Merola, Christopher Bell. Alex Bowman at your top four bottom lane beginning to get the advantage,.

"Of NASCAR race up on Fox Sports One. I recommend you watch this show because number one Adams, a friend of mine and number two, It's really Educational and entertaining. Hello, Adam. Hey, Bob, How you doing tonight? I am doing well, now that you're here, all right last week. We talk about, OK, one race left before we get to the end of the play offs and we're talking about you know who's gonna be in? Would you have believed last week that Kevin Harvick would be on the outside looking in Absolutely not. You know, he went into that race at Martinsville more than 40 points above the cut line. Yeah, the one thing that had happened, you had to have someone below the cut line win if Kevin were going to be in jeopardy of missing the championship race, so you had that would chase Elliott and I can't say In a chase. Winning surprised me. Quite honestly, if he had won that race of witness surprised because right when you said that last week? Yeah, Yeah, yes. I mean, we knew that part of the equation could happen. What I don't like we anticipated is that they would just have the kind of problems that they had failed to execute and and circumstances. That race once they fell behind the circumstances of the race didn't play out to allow them to catch up. And so all of a sudden, you know, it comes down to the closing laps and he needs positions and he's unable to get what was required for into advance and I'll tell you this is We've seen cabin come through in some clutch situation back to the the first year in this format in 2014, and in the final race before the championship, his back was against the wall. Anyone to advance and last weekend at Martin's Your eggs on the other side of it gets eliminated. And now the the guy that's been the number one seed for most of the year. What will not get a chance to take home the big trophy? So now has that created. I'm assuming it has in some respects a revisiting of the format. Where do you have a guy who dominates wins nine races. Doesn't make it. I don't think so. I mean, there's been a lot of fans that has said this is not fair. The regular season champion in 19 times. How how is he? Not that you're brave, and I think that you know what? I understand The frustration if you're Kevin Harvick fan, Yeah, And but But that's To me. That's the way sports is and you know forever. Ah 16th seed would not be the one seat And it finally, you know, crying. You got beat and oil. I I just think that's a good point Sports and you you have to perform, and Kevin said it after the race last week. We don't We don't want championships these days, like used to used to be a full season and you collected as many points as you could and consistent human something. If you had a big lead in the points you could protect it tonight. Can't you gotta come race? In these three weeks dents, and unfortunately that didn't work out for them and and Kevin will be missed. And I will say this. He's so good at Phoenix and has been the dominant car all year to take him out. The equation tomorrow just might very well be the most balanced, wide open championship for we've ever had. How about Chase Elliott were? What a story mean seriously want a story the entire year For heaven sakes. He just keeps getting better and better. You have Logano Chase Elliott bread Keselowski Denny Hamlin get in. But the Elliot's story, I think is really particularly intriguing. It's cool because he certainly having the best year ever had right 14 times now this season and for him to deliver like he did. You know last week and in a must win situation, and then they weren't totally mathematically in a spot where they had to win, But it didn't look that way right? And it turns out that that was the case, and he came out and performed and Chase is a guy that doesn't get to hire two low space very balanced on DH, So I think a lot people respect that about him. Some would say he needs more personality and emotion on we saw a little bit of that, after he won last week in the way he won But I think that him being in the championship race serves notice to a lot of people, but that he's going to be a player for a long time in this sport, and it's interesting to me that Yeah, he makes the championship for the first time in his career the same year that Jimmy Johnson retires. Jeff Gordon left Hendrick Motor Sports who retired years ago. To me. This is a little bit of the passing of the baton H. M s that they have always had a marquee driver in their stables, right? You know, really dating back to the early nineties, when Jeff Gordon came around and that it was, you know, Jeff and Jimmy and then Jimmy and and and now I feel like Chase could could be the guy to take over the range and be the leader. Undercoater sports. That's a really good point. Because you know the similarities between Ah, style. I mean personalities were different between Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson and Chase Ellie. But you the way they perform the way they drive. The way they managed thing seems to be very similar. Indeed, and they they all very much fit. That that Henrik mold just very yelling in the way they go about their business. Very professional, very classy. You said. Personalities are totally different, but I think their character and their makeup is very much the same. And and then when you add into that the connection that she has to be a history of the sport with his father Bill. Hall of Famer and an air champion. I think there's just a lot of layers that would indicate that he could be the next big superstar and the guy that carried the torch forward for 100 published reports. I've actually been to Dawsonville seriously. Have you really upset? I don't know. Let me let me tell you what? I don't have enough time to tell the story, and I need to be in a different setting because some of the language I would use to tell the story. But it was right after I started with the Horizon League running the running all the basketball in that league. We had a there had to be in Dawsonville, Georgia to attend a meeting with host communications. You know, the big media giant host communications. I was there to negotiate a contract and they were having a sales meeting. In Dawsonville. Okay. And I I land in Atlanta in the middle of a driving rainstorm. And so if you know, geography of Atlanta, Hartsfield on the south side of town, Dawsonville his way north and literally the middle of nowhere, right, so man on man, I was never so happy to arrive in a place in my life..

Here comes Chase Elliott. Harvick, Eric Jones. It looks like all of the lead lap cars are headed onto pit road. Kim and Kevin Harvick's stuff in front of his group. They're gonna go to work on the right side also joined four tires. No feel for Logan. A little on the nose pushed it is handling still quite like they'll take a care of Fort. There was a wrench in the back of the racecar. Martin Trucks Jr and you was tight off work. Was lying there just a bit his crew chief James, could you be a little freer, he said. First, they exit pit road first and Chase Elliott will be the race leader. Now what car is going to be the quickest? It's a course here. Complete darkness were under the lights. We saw that transition of the racetrack and Rusty Wallace. You talked about it at the beginning of the broadcast 83 degrees, bright sunshine. Well, that's long gone and the only light on the race track now comes from the ambient light around the race tracks. It's cooled off, and that just means that the guys that we were talking about earlier may not be the guys we're talking about here over the course of the next 40 laps with this lad. Last caution flag was really big Jeff, it really equalize the top 45 cars in my opinion. But this race track has done what it's going to do. They got fresh tires on right now. The only thing they could do right now is run every single lap like it's a qualifying lap. To the end of this race. We only got 40 some laps to go and sew it. They got enough tires on the car right now that are good that they can run that hard. We'll see how it plays out. Rusty Wallace knows what to do These drivers. Well, they're gonna have to heed that advice is well. Some of the rookies were getting ready to find out what it's like. To run to the checkered flag in the southern 500. But boy, this one the complexion. Jeff seems like once we have things figured out, Then something else happens in a strategy call gets called down on the pit lane, and that call gets made. Then that changes and then we go back to another complexion. We think this is what's going to happen. It is interesting and fun to pay attention to all the different strategies that have been playing out tonight. Well, guys, you know the way it was working out. It looks like Truax was going to run him down and retake that lead him. He was so much faster than Harvick Emerald tracking him, but he was supposed to. I mean, Kevin pitter like 20 some elapse before. Martin did and the way it was working Martin, which is in perfect condition. So was Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin Till Denny Hamlin made that pit road entry mistake right there, which happened when him and the 48 car Jimmy Johnson. Hang out a little bit as Denny was trying to come pit road. That's what got Denny messed up right there. But, hey, it's a It's a new game right now. We got a bunch of guys on the lead lap all the way down to what we had 20. Two cars on the lead lap right now, and we got the fastest cars upfront. Not going to give a good hand out Eric Jones. He's one of the ones in the top five that I did not expect to be in the top five. But he's there, Jeff Well, He's also a former winner here at Darling Pen, and he plays the role of spoiler win and advance If you're among one of the playoff cars, Eric Jones isn't one he loved to spoil. We just had to choose rule. What did you see? Alex? Hey, I saw the first three go to the outside fourth.

That would be way Byron. Here comes Chris pusher. He's gonna get four tires. Here comes the Erica Merola car. "Place for me to go to since since I've got to go there for my first time in 2001 and we've been fortunate Tio have won our third break out 400 pretty pretty incredible. Tio think about the whole process on DH where we are today. Kevin Harvick with us As you mentioned. This was your third win at the Brickyard. You grew up. As you said, watching Rick Mears. What is it about the Brickyard that brings out the best in you? Is there something about the layout or just the fact that that's a place that as you said you've been dreaming about since you were a kid. Well, you know, I think when you look at since I've gone to Stewart Haas Racing, this is our This is our seventh year. We're fortunate to, you know, to win the Brickyard back in. 03 with Richard Childress Racing, but it really has been a racetrack. You know that we've been able to perform at, you know, really, since we started going there at Stewart Haas and I think as you look at the last couple of years, we've been able to win the race. But, you know, I think as you look back in the previous five For us. We felt like we definitely lost a couple of well with what we felt like it was the best car, but it's a racetrack that that the whole garage looks at it as kind of Ah marquee race. Teo kind of step up. Bring your new engines and things that you feel like I'm gonna perform at a high level because you're going to the world's most famous racetrack, right? So There's a lot of history and a lot of pride that comes with being able to win at the Brickyard and to be able to accomplish that, you know, with the team and a group of guys that are in there battling with you in a week to week basis, and we know how important that races and how much effort we put into it on a yearly basis in order to go then and try to win, so Be able to accomplish that is is very rewarding. Kevin Harvick with us here on Golden Window. Kevin earlier you mentioned, you know your guy's experiences a group with a limited practice time being something that helps as the schedules changed for you guys and everything about the preparation has really been different because of the Corona virus. I'm curious on the other side of this not having fans in attendance, certainly having more isolation less time unless, you know commotion over all around the race day experience. Has that almost allowed you to be able to focus even Mohr, like have there been benefits to this process that you guys are starting to feel this far into the season? You definitely have to learn from it, right? You know, I think a cz you look at the things that you're doing now, the way that we're racing the way that we communicate the way that our sport in general goes to the racetrack and You know, if you if you turn on the television on Sunday, and you look at the race, you would never know that we didn't practice or qualify unless somebody told you And you know, I think from you know, from from a sports standpoint, you have to look at that process and you have to understand. What you can apply to what we do going forward because of just like everything else in the world, right? You know, you have to look at it from a financial standpoint in order to make it you know a sufficient as possible. To make sure that the owners and everybody is getting the most out of their business on DH what they're doing. So from my standpoint, you know, I really believe that you know, doing this for 20 years is playing into our hands right now, because Most of these racetracks I go to. I know, I know Michael. Back of my hand. You know, I know where you know the lead off markers are nowhere. I want to be on the racetrack and, you know, I think for us as a team, you know, it's really baby to show the preparation and detail oriented group of people that I have working on my cars. In the shop for at the racetrack and the way that we have adapted to communicating through our computers and using our our team's abscond. The way that we communicate it as a team has really shown through. You know, not every week has been perfect, but usually by the end of the race, we've got things figured out. So the process is definitely different. You know, I think as you look at it for me, you know, having a family has definitely changed. You know the amount of time that I've been able to spend at home. I went on Sunday that last week Sunday morning is usually I go up on race day and I come back on race day You travel for the most part by yourself. You go to the bus. You walk to the car on de everything is by yourself. I got done this weekend. We win the race. We go to Victory Lane. They take the car and I'm walking around by myself and I walked. I walked out of the race track forgot to go out on the straightaway and kiss the bricks like you know, the traditional Indian kissing the bricks Because I didn't I didn't have anybody to help me pay attention. And so So, Yeah, it is It is you alone, and it's you know, it's a very different feeling, you know, not walking out of there with all that enthusiasm, walking out of there with all that enthusiasm and excitement from I'm winning the race on DH. You're so used to sharing that emotion with the fans and the people that are at the racetrack and now it's like you look around and you just don't know what to do. You feel out of place, but A sport. We're doing what we need to do to be on the racetrack and put on a show andare TV partners and radio partners are doing a great job, You know, to be able to put the events on and hopefully give everybody a few hours at home to watch some good TV of something that's that's not controversial. Certainly has been. The ratings have been really strong. What 46%. The Brickyard was up from where it was a year ago. Year to year Kevin Harvick with US winner of the Brickyard 400 then you know NASCAR was dealing with a lot of change and a lot of situations going on with the sport with the banning of the Confederate flag and the garage pull..

M. F. fight you know bad as mother believer between eighty as an over a mass but all folks were running pretty hot emotions were running pretty high after that fight remember Nate was banned because he thought the fight was stopped prematurely because of that cut he was insisting immediately on a rematch but he was concerned that the U. "Welcome back. Sunday night must excuse me. Saturday night must mean animal exander from Fox Sports one NASCAR in Kansas Kansas speedway. And chase Elliott leading stage. Number three. He has one already already won one stage as has Kevin Harvick Alexander. How are you tonight? You're a great, Bob. How're you doing great seems like a lot of fun that they're having in Kansas. Does it seems like very competitive race tonight? It's been interesting. You know, and you talk last night about one of the big factors in this race. Get very wealthy that they practiced yesterday during the day. And then the race actually starts, you know, in the evening so with sunlight and transitions into you know, fully racing under the lights. And I think this crack has gone to a great deal of change. Kevin Harvick won the pole and dominated that opening stage. If you talk about really didn't seem to matter what the circumstance was he was great early stage. Too late stage to chase Elliott takes over furthering. The problems for Kevin Harvick had to bre- on the grill. So the handle and away on scheduled pitstop. But Harvick is just got back on the lead lap and both he and cow Bush who had some problems now in a position with about twenty five to go to to maybe make a late race rally. Kevin Harvick has struggled in this third phase. And he as you mentioned making his way through, but he's got a long way to go. Alex Bowman Ricky Stenhouse junior Clint Boyer Tyler Rettig the top five right now. And you know, it's it's been more of those races. Where there's been a lot of activity as you mentioned throughout each one of these stages. And you know, it's interesting, and I was looking at this earlier. It's just the number of drivers the top ten that. You don't normally see their Alex Bowman's at backed back runner up Inish is and he was just about to take the lead away from case Elliott moments ago. He's having a great run Tyler Radic only Meghan his second career start little strategy. A little good fortune involved. But he's up in the top ten. Eric Jones has been in the top ten almost all week long after a solid effort last week six Dover. And Ricky Stenhouse junior is that a very promising night. So we're seeing some drivers inside the top ten that. We don't always see there. I think though with twenty five laps to go. You got fourteen cars on the league lap guys. Like how Bush and Kevin Harvick who had the problems that. We know about gotten fresh tires. Yeah. It's going to become a question of how quickly can they make it through? And ultimately can they get through unscathed and have a chance once they get close to the front rundown. Chase Elliott who really would the clean air tonight has been really really strong. Absolutely. And Malik Zander. We're this on the Saint Vincent sports hotline. You'll see him next week on NASCAR racer on f s one anything you want to know about NASCAR. He's got what's the deal with with this track? You like this track at Kansas. Yeah. It's a fun place. You know, it used to be kind of flat. And and there wasn't a ton of passing their and they reconfigured this place after the spring event seven years ago and two thousand twelve and it is really weathered in the restarts. Or a lot of fun drivers have options you can run low. You can run middle you can run high. And sometimes you know, the race conditions dictate. The preferred racing grew. But but I think it does wide now. And this is turned into one of the better bile and a half that that we go to. And you know, I this is a race you relevant here in a it's it's a night race. And so it's hard to take a lot of notes this weekend will transfer. But I think it is worth pointing out when we come back here in October. This will be a playoff elimination race to determine the eight drivers remain alive for the championship. So so this is a very significant. Venue in that regard that you know, when you come back here. They're gonna be a whole lot of the line. It's interesting because you will have been at Indy as the last race before the playoffs. And then you go to Vegas Richmond Charlotte in Roland Dover. Before you go to Talladega excuse me, go to Dover Talladega. And then Kansas, and then you only have four left. So you talk about significance of track. And and what you've done there underscores exactly what you're talking about. Thank you, you come here with the potential of a lot of pressure because there'll be twelve drivers still in it. You will have had two races in the round at wildcard type cracks Dover is still one mile venue that that a lot of bad things can happen. Talladega window anything can happen to me time. And and you know, Kansas is the one conventional somewhat predictable type race track in that that second round of the playoffs, but it's limitation race. That adds a lot of pressure. So it will be it'll be certainly a pressure fill the vent when we come back here and Tober. You could say that they're all pressure. But no, I think I think you're exactly right. The way you set that up. So this thing is still going on tell me about Chris butcher who is is in the top ten. He's one of those guys we didn't necessarily talk about he's one of those names that hasn't been in the top ten LA Chris is, you know, extremity champion won the title in two thousand fifteen was was a four guy driving for Jack rouse and got an opportunity to go Cup racing years ago. It front row actually won a race in the oddest circumstances, and we had rain and fog at Pocono, and he ends up getting his only one Cup level there. But now is JT Dougherty racing. And this is a team that is you know, they've been around a long time. I still feel like they are in the infancy stages of their development has gone now to to car peration. And and you know, what he's. You really done a nice job is talented driver. And and, you know, tonight's, no fluke. I think this is a team that is is shown speed both. He and his team-mates rookie Ryan Preece it at times have been guys to watch. And this is an evening where things have gone his ways kept it up front their position for solid top ten finish. Yeah. I think they are. So as we speak. She silly still still leading the way. And it's I'm kind of as you. I'm trying to your better multitasking than I am trying trying to watch as it's going on. But there's a lot air is so much going on right now this race. And it's it's going down. Let me tell you. What you don't you? Think is going to go down to two right at the end. Well, I think there was a chance that that was going to happen anyway. But but now you throw in a caution with twenty five and right? Some guys come down pit road and get tires and others. Do not I think it goes without saying that we're going to have and unbelievable finish. And I mentioned that restarts. At kansas. A lot of fun. Given the circumstances that I just laid out with the tires everything. That's on the line at this stage of the race. This is this is really been something. And and certainly have a lot to talk about digest when this things over. So once we get through this race, the we had back to Charlotte for the two weeks of fun with the monster energy all star race next Sunday. And then on the twenty six excuse me, next Saturday and on the twenty six Coca Cola six hundred. So just something special about that with two week period is not. Where I think this is a good time of year. You know, you get this Saturday night race. And and teams get a Sunday off the, you know, sell celebrate mother's day. And then you come home for two straight weeks. And so it's I gotta tell you. It's it's a good time to to be involved in the sport and the two week run here in Charlotte is is enjoyable made all stars fun laid back weekend with there's a million dollars on the line for for a driver, which always helps provide low energy and then the coke six hundred which is one of the crown jewels. Nascar's longest ways, and and you know, it comes on on racing's greatest weekend and the big tripleheader with that point at Monaco and five hundred and then the coke six hundred. So it's a a real special time not just for NASCAR teams, but across the board and racing and a male exander f s one the host co host of. The incredibly popular NASCAR racer, and he's the guy on expanding. Adam thanks for staying up late. Enjoy the race. We'll talk to you next weekend. Thanks so much. Great to have a good one. Thank you, all of our callers and included on the Saint Vincent sports performance hotline. They're still battling in Kansas. Scoreboard update coming up with Brad Huber than we're talk a little high school baseball in Indian sports. Playing sports. I love the competition, the commodity, the bands, the crowds, all the pageantry. And I wanted to keep playing, but I graduated no colleges called and neither did the pros. So.
