Happy thanks for having me. Bro. So what an honor we're having this I've never done a podcast dinner what's on and we have another guy who went downstairs to check on the fries 'cause you can't try the catch up with the fries Taylor. Their duck fries. Big Difference Taylor order the fries and our go. We're ready with the state has a dog named Herbie who's literally sitting. You're begging for food everywhere. I look there's a good boy Herbie boy areas anyway. So how do we feel about murder Murph being on the road and missing We're really sad without murder. He he really honestly not the same thought the same I wish it was different murders on the road would. Business and business things businessman. This is a big week the catch up launch. Lots of people getting it lots of people posting about it. I'm so excited about it. We've sold thousands of bottles. It's so weird actually see bottles going out when they show me from the factory like when people try this, it's a game changer. No one knows and I can't wait for the first couple of thousand miles to get out. So people tell a friend telephone telephone tele friend. Are you. Know for real are you? Really, the best thing I've been saying that. Probably only been talking for three minutes. I. Feel like I'm exhausted already. We've only been talking for three minutes. That is unbelievable world. Here's the thing about the catch it certified organic that's a plus that's a win. It's gluten free, which is another win. Re percent sugar which everybody has a problem catch up because of the sugar index three grams. Tillers all confused the market, a fourth of all kits. Soon, as you smell it battery when you're emptying to tasty. smeller. Smells like trauma frog pro come right away way better. Cause trouble phrases. So, it's a hundred that's here's tailored. Here's Taylor sniffing. I'm sorry. Trader, Joe's three dollars catchup like yell, let's go over the things that people were writing me. You copied trough sauce I go I I will I like trump I even worked with them I did I did some selling stuff for them online or something whatever we did something I don't. I. Didn't know the trump owned truffles an doing anything with truffles. I'm confused how copy trough, which is a Hud Sauce There's been troubles have been ice cream thousand different things. What is what is trump to truffle catch up with real truffles? That's all I'm going to say not truffle oil real truffles and I don't WanNa take shots at trader Joe's a trader Joe's Fan. But what separates the trader Joe's truffle catch up from the food I'll tell you there's something called summer truffle, which is basically Not truffle at all, it's a trouble that doesn't exist the cheapest. crappiest lowest form of truck whole. Barely, any flavor barely any smell it's the one that they throw at you. This is made out of white truffle. So white truffle is like real truffle, the top truffle, the best trouble you know what I mean, and that's fine. If you want to go spend three dollars on one, go ahead smells good for about ten seconds. This one is like. If I leave it here it's almost like a candle it's an aroma of truffles and it won't go away. So I ran my friend said Oh my God trader Joe's house when I don't like okay great. Let me go try it I was in a panic I went to a swear my mother's life when I've ranch of their house with this one and this one drag kids everybody down I go I got to try this right now I literally shaking Oh my God a year of this working and trader Joe's does like a cheap one that's like whatever we opened them up boats good like Oh my God no that smells good to. This is like a decorative candle. Literally three minutes later I spell it again in a panic I'm like wait. Am I smell the other one anymore mine is exploding than we do the taste and I'm like holy rich deep, delicious amazing taste. The other ones starts tasting sour to me and I'm like what is going on so you get what you pay for listen you want to buy Honda, you buy one of my Mercedes Mercedes it's something. Forever don't be like get the one at trader joke you have no idea what you're talking about it. So I go get regular line like a same day. It doesn't matter. Yeah. Go ahead. It's catch up anyway good luck to everybody in their cats upset and we're moving on. This is just how much does that cost? This is Mike Nineteen dollars and the other one is three dollars, but it's like literally. Two different worlds it's like two different things if not comparable non-comparable, you want to try that one down. The bottle is a piece like we're look it's on the table. It's a beautiful color red. Another dish, Gal. You want this on the table because it's like a thing, it's a brand name. And that's what I wanted. I worked so hard I wanted everyone to love it I swear. I kept in such a secret I didn't WanNa talk about it because I really don't like to. You know I don't like to. Talk. About perfect. I let with this idea, and that's why I get so offended because I worked so hard that people right away have to be like when you copied that we didn't copy any. I know there's always haters. And I WANNA thank every person thousands of bottles that have gone out this week, which is so exciting to me to see all the bottles going out I'm so wound up like when I see them packed up and going and you know and Kim. Beautiful. Incredible she and Kim like she have never done that kind of beautiful long seven story post if she didn't love it because like I. Think the bottle is beautiful and like the whole thing. So I'm really excited about it and this is the first thing and we have the truffles steak sauce coming up next on the bottle. Gorgeous of really sick color and you know what I I base these colors on these eighties kind of like. Boats that I saw in in central pay last year I. Saw I said I want these rich eighties like billionaire colors that are really fun and so there was a red one, a green one in a blue one and they're kind of like old aristotle onassis like tug boat type of things and I saw. The steak one is when you guys try steak sauce, you're going to be like. That's the problem you can't. You can't decide guys, but it's not all about me. I don't want to talk about the catch the whole time just clip talk about. Get a gauge. We've got CAM here with us. Cam. Get engaged poll new world going on in La especially during the pandemic big stores or staying home and all of a sudden. There's a new breed of kids called the tiktok taken over and I actually liked them a lot. Most of them are really cool. Here comes our next guest before we get into that Kevin. Meyer. OTOGRAPHER and slash pickup guy today who because I cooked Kevin went and picked up the fries downstairs. It's a nice thing to do. This is really fun. Or. So the dinner ended and we put a brake on the Guy Cam who we're going to do the podcast with literally fell asleep. He's sitting here. He's sitting here. Lang fell asleep. It's really annoying. We're in a food God coma, which is like horrific. The girls since we're all in a circle, we're GONNA talk about Board Games. So it's this amazing game called where we're not really strangers and it's a game based on connection and what's That her then connection to me nothing I actually have the phone case of we're not really strangers because. You. The. I'm just going to see your real big advocate and I would say that somebody that doesn't understand would be a skeptic maybe I would say that I would be a skeptic in the sense of playing again outside of my comfort zone but that's the whole point of the game and I'm obsessed with it. So the game is it's really like playing cards. So you it's it's meant to do for one or two or two people but with Kobe, it opened up to group quarantine in anyway it's it is a game developed to get out of your comfort zone. So there's questions like what was your first impression of me? There's three different categories in the. points it can be as many people as you want, but the idea is to play with me. You don't know that we're like we're not really strangers. Be Ida I we could actually learn a lot of who played together. I haven't done downstairs here. Yeah. We could play and bringing so we could play. Good for Kevin Actually to break through you really. Covered was a really smart kid and he's really he's got a lot you. Lose Sanctuary Komo absolutely. Well, and like. Or on my God it's like. We're GONNA play I'm going to go get it. It's it's basically. So the three categories are perception. Something and then reflection. Team. or ago so she's back with the game. To ask you a question can't have in. What comp you so you have to ask this about me which doesn't really help. Those, let me ask this handlers going back to. You're clean I am Cleveland Sylvia. That is amazing twice. Hang out at bars. I'm so we appreciate that. How long have you been clean and sober? I've been sober for five years. That is amazing. I always like continuous sobriety. Because a lot the people put together like all the years they've been ever been sober their whole lives. That doesn't count 'cause I always say I had eleven years once but then I turned earns twelve years old. So what was your drug of choice. my drug of choice was cocaine. Now that you mention it some kind of want some joking Bagnall poop now for never enjoyed Kevin feeling native grinding. My teeth and having to it's not fun. Yeah I'm more of a sit back and smoke a joint much. I do it mostly for the weight. Loss Hollywood's a rough place. Man We gotta get any advantage. We can help you lose weight and your teeth. Yeah exactly quick I. I grew up with addiction in my family so I understand. I've never been addicted to anything. But a lot of family members including my father saw so heroin that was his drug of choice. Okay so I know exactly where you're coming from. I wish he would have stopped again so good for you. That's awesome and find that your humor has changed a little bit but I still sort of joke about those days. It's funny because when I'm on tour it it never fails. Someone always offers me cook and so now I feel like I to be honest. It doesn't tell me that much anymore. but I I find it funny that you know 'cause I joke around about it so much that people who will actually think I'd do it so I think I have to qualify myself and say I'm sober or otherwise I'm GonNa keep having people all you do for the police in the audience. Yeah just in case. There's any police here. I don't have any cocaine. Cain on me not now and Gary Neville. You're not gonNA believe this but I've never tried alcohol or drugs anti-drug yeah. Heroin preserves the body body looked at the rolling stones. -solutely if you don't do anything else but heroin yeah see. I have a very good plan. Jimmy when did you get into comedy at what age Close to thirty so I was a little bit late bloomer. It was after I graduated from law school I read about the law. School was at the parents pressure from parents. You know what music instrument you play actually. Don't don't play any instruments but I do have a band it's called the temptations. Is that Your Guitar Guy. Guitar Guy. And then we do some parody songs. I love that I do that too but I can't play guitar so I just come along and then curse at my children to Piss me off. And she's a great mother. Sounds like hope child protective services. This isn't listening actually. I'm going to call the moment. Social workers take them take them. That's fine can you talk a little bit about Your Charlton. Yeah I grew up Asian I don't believe you grew up in Tacoma Washington Tacoma Coming Park Washington. DC No no no no yeah yeah right by Seattle lived in Seattle or you lived in I. I Live Queen Anne. Did you ever go to pesos. Yeah I got him lows now. Oh it in those schools. That was like my favorite bar. You are by the way John. The nicest people the smartest people out not like in California I say hey hey in the smartest people live in Washington state. DC specifically cuts. All they have to do. There's read because it rains so much become from Microsoft. Yeah Yeah exactly they sit there on the computer and thinking up new APPS and programs I went up there for eleven days looking at houses houses range every single day by the NSF. No one it's not good for depression. Depression rain just brings you lower and lower. That's why you have to supplement with cocaine now making that connection but so listen. Did you grew up next door to Ted Bundy's always he actually no. Yeah I grew up in spokane not spokane but Or something Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah Yeah I loved it. I researched other serial killers when I was there because I have issues and I wanted to know who is killing who who in Seattle Washington. Yeah Okay so you're from Tacoma. How did you get a loved? It really good because it was a kind of hood if it's like a little bit ghetto and so I I liked it because it gave me a little bit of an edge. You know then growing up applets say in Seattle right right. The Tacoma was like a lot of poverty a lot of gang violence when I was growing Asian ghetto white. Get both yeah. I remember. There was a game called the case. Gray and killers. I'm serious. I'm dead Sir. You don't WanNa mess with the cake as they had little little rat. Tails remember those haircuts. Yeah you'll always be afraid of an Asian guy that has a rat tail. Yeah because if he doesn't give a shit about his haircut he's not going to give a shit about you. You have tattoos on you. How covered weird? Are you Just short sleeve. Yeah just enough to cover for mom and dad just to cover for mom and dad for awhile and if I ever have to play power golf or anything convinced. Any meetings with some seals cover sale now. Your parents are agreeing with your work choice. Because you've been on late eight nine thousand nine hundred and that's what finally. Yeah they still hating you for the dropping out of law school. Yeah well I always say you know in the beginning when I I moved to. He went from being my biggest thorn in my side side to be in my biggest supporter conditional. Yeah it's very condition. The I'd say Shen. Yeah that's nothing to yeah. So when did you start having common with your parents like did you. Not from here from Carino's born yeah a- sure my parents are born in Puerto Rico. So when did you start feeling the pressure. The Korean parents who had taught Korean friends back in New York. And they're yeah. They come from the school of just being authoritarian parents. Where they he didn't give me a lot of attention just a lot of orders? I'm saying so you have to do this. You have to do that and as soon as I kind of had some you know freedom so basically age like eight. I started being very rebellious and I started using at a very young age age I always say my parents owned a grocery store when I was twelve years old but the cool thing about them owning grocery stores I would steal alcohol from from them and then sell it at school. Yeah they know about it now because they heard by act but yes so yes you you know. That's what stealing family taking my inheritance. Exactly early fully. Understand that because my mom When I turned thirteen brought in a twenty eight year old man she was forty two at the time? And this guy was hardcore pothead and he would leave the pot laying around and the and the pipes and and that's how oh I started my Investment in my being a party which is worked out quite well because now that it's legal. Yes forty years later. Yeah Yeah Yeah I know but I. I would never thought that pot would ever become legal. Now we can legalized coke. Would you go back to that. No Coke is just contrived really isn't yes and I want to have a master service. That would be nice. I did that in Denver. Colorado yeah they. They legalize mushrooms out. We're going to do and decriminalized at decriminalized but it's not like I think you can buy you can buy people people are going over there and swarms right we're going to do it on the hot cast. We're GONNA do something that's very experimental everybody else for. We're going to talk about what we're experienced. Yeah let's give Kerry the first drug of classic psychedelic him into a psychosis. That'll be good at times. Jerry I gotta find out what. How do you have the secret power that makes you not want to do drugs? I mean do you love life. Is that what it is yes I don't I don't see the benefit. I'm still waiting to see the as soon as I see a good benefit. Maybe I'll look at me. I'm spectacular works for you. Obviously but I mean for other people I've known and hasn't really been. I'm stripping on the table. Sheep Day a day keeps the doctor away. I I can't yeah I I could drink maybe Saturdays Fridays. That's wake nuggety so you do films music. Everything will how did you get into this. And when did you start and and what was your first line. How did you guys meet? We met kind of goes in. Have you heard of okay. Keep it I was doing. I was working with a A former pop star Jim Jordan. who had some big kids in the nineties and and I was writing songs with lyrics for him and I was kind of managing a band around him too and Jimmy would come to our our performances and like at the riskier wherever we we had performances? And then we've gone. Support Him in his comedy shows so Yes is doing music comedy and then I came to send shows in after yeah. I got a divorce. I was at one of his shows at comedy store and I said I'd try that because we'll get a divorce. You're willing to try anything. Yeah Yeah I said. I tried that he says next week and so then he put me up next week he got me a spot. I'm sorry he said I'll put me up next. He put me up next month so he got me a spot at the comedy store and you went up comedy. Yeah Hi. His first show was at the comedy store that the first one I think was kind of mediocre but not bad for first time and then the second one was better in the third. When had I I must have had a lucky? I crushed in the in the original room. Awesome third that is amazing and then just kind of go from there but before now you're an addict hooked on comedy but I'm not that I I mean I did a few times a week but I Times a week is alive. That makes you a stand up comedian but I started out like writing allow comedy for promise rate of would do PROMOS FOR TV and film commercials promos movie trailers new since I graduated school. Where did you score media divorce plow? Okay actually went through with what Gary. Yeah I worked for Jones and came right out at school I mean. I entered for him for an advertisement for that. And then pledged couplet high. Read the next year when I graduated and I produced thousands of promos commercials movie trailers. Taylor's you had a slow start Randy Phillips now I've never mind but And then just from from there you know and then the music was a hobby and then comedy became a hobby to sound. Like you have a Lotta hobbies. Do you know what you have the time. His you're not always uh-huh yeah imagine what you'd be doing. If you didn't smoke pot I know I would be would be an astro. I like the first woman in March. But that ain't going to happen because I don't like it just doesn't do anything for you will I don't alcohols and then that's fine and you find that smoking weed you get slower because the people I know who smoke a lot of we they slowdown. I'm very hyper person. So if I don't smoke weed people tell me to calm the fuck down there like I've had people tell me I have. PTSD and like put their hand up and kind of like getaway. Push me back verbally so I understand that I'm very spouse so it's medicinal it is it brings me down to the level of everyone else. It makes sense now. Jimmy when you went to law school was the three years law school. When did you decide? I'm not going to be a lawyer year. You're one exactly no. I didn't enjoy it the whole time and while I was going I was selling pot outselling pounds and pounds of pot and as you mentioned back then it wasn't legal and so are selling it and got busted which was is a felony back. Then if you have more than an ounce and so I got busted and so I couldn't take the far right away enduring that probation time you know you on probation. You think a lot about your life where you're going to go with it. Did Work for me probation. Actually made me do you step outside of my comfort zone and my friend dared meet. Its Tri stand up. I've always been a funny person and then I said what do I have to lose. I'm fucking I'm a Felon uh-huh I stand up comedians. To have a crime in house right yeah or they should uh-huh going over one hundred though which was speeding ticket was that to It was my first time driving Porsche and I thought what the hell dot speeding meeting ticket and then got another one a week later out from the cops to try. I tried to outrun the cops and they beat us seventeen at the time so guy took let me out of the car. He said you're going to prison and said how old are you said. Seventeen and said okay. You're not going to prison. And he took me home to my mom. See that's what happens when you don't do drugs. Do you get sent home do all crimes before eighteen. Everybody's kids actually actually unless you get tried as an adult unless you're black that's not tried as an adult and before the trial. Yeah that's I take. Yeah Yeah exactly. I love that man. They they need to kill off at that allowed. The judge made me so mad. She was yeah she was black to ask weird. Because you think that you try to help. But she was like really getting in this way right everybody watch that show meek mill young net flix. Yeah it's a plug for them. Hopefully they'll pay s something. Oh Okay so you did turn around. Can you even take the bar when you're fine you can't you can't and so you had to. I had to go in front of the breath character and fitness committee of the Bar Association and basically they said I had to wait. They said right now I was not fit enough to sit for the bar and so that time. I didn't know you know that this is going to be the best thing to ever happen to me but and so I was very depressed and I was. I was angry at God. Angry at the world. Angry at the cops you know just because a disappointment to my imagine your parents send you to law school. Then you get busted for selling drugs and you can't sit for the bar. It's total devastation. So that's when I started doing standup because might as well do you have brothers or sisters. I don't and being an only child. Wow the overshirt added to it. Yeah if if I was there therapist I completely blame them because I always blame the parents. It's the parents fault. I always been selling drugs. It's because you did something wrong and they get medical so so that's why I blame the parents to. I blamed my parents. Yeah I'm I'm holding you accountable for specific behaviors. Now that I'm an adult. You know. Yeah but parents need to recognize how they can affect their children and when the children are acting out. There's something wrong in the family. It's not the kid it's the parents and the dynamic the families. I hope listen to this but honestly I had to get over that resentment. Because you can't keep blaming your parents for all your possibles at some point you have to take responsibility. Igla say you know what what was my part in this whole thing. I did a lot of stuff. That was my part and they didn't make me sell drugs. We not having cash on hand. No I didn't even need the money I was on a scholarship and my parents were paying them the rest of the way you know and so I I did it just because I needed. It's some excitement. I needed an outlet and and the people that smoke pot as you well know are creative people absent so you know I wouldn't hang hanging out with the law students I'd be hanging out with the musicians. The surfers sounds like you mentioned in college. Parsons we're all hands. No actually there were some and those are the like my best friends but but you know but also I had a whole slew of other friends that were lost that I could relate to so tell me about your first time doing stand up the first time doing stand up I remember. It was at the Tacoma Comedy Club. It was no it was comedy underground back and I was on Probation House living with my parents at the time I was just trying to figure out which is really depressing in itself right and so what what I basically was looking for something you know selling cars at the time so you know I had nothing to lose because anyone can get another car job. No it was for Toyota. Used cars have been funny. No actually I I would make people pilaff right into a new car. So yeah so you can use you know comedy and humor to get what you want life time right so but long story short Yao super super nervous. I just wrote down every joke. I've ever heard some of them. Were Dad jokes. Some of them were real happy but it didn't matter. I think the biggest thing was just getting up there. Yeah Yeah descended up on the stage and getting your name out. That's enough. Yeah yes I just got up there and I remember I pull act AL and all I can remember people laughing and the way that I felt. Afterwards I felt like amazing. I felt like I could conquer the world. I remember calling my friend. Like I'm GonNa be a star you're just the grandiose and because it's a heady feeling You you do stand up idea. Yeah so you couldn't sleep. That couldn't even sleep wired up and I'm like I I want to feel like this all the time and you know being the addict that I am I got super addicted comedy and I was like a crackhead you know looking for that the extra spot. Do you feel that way right now. Not as much because you have to kind of always for me anyway. Always up the anti so in other words. If you're doing coke you gotta do math. If you're doing math you gotta do heroin voice smoke pot and I still smell. I'm not smoking. Well you're doing it for medicinal purpose. I don't sit there and do Gong von head or big as joint. I wasn't like that I would do Kief. I would to ash you know what I'm saying right chasing that high tech going this way and you're going to that way. Yeah our hands going in all directions. Yes I always got to up the ante which is a good thing you know. I'm always trying to do the next thing. which for me has lately has been doing new venues? I really enjoy. I mean we're always the company and Gary are always at the comedy store Hollywood Improv but even those places says can get redundant there every week right and so for me to travel now since the release of my special and do venues you know with people that you don't know any of them and do crowds in different regions of America is just been a pleasure. It's super yeah. I saw the documentary with mitzi shore's kid what's his name. I saw that documentary and I was like that's it. I'm never traveling for comedy. That was so depressing directed active. But you're you're looking at it from an angle of his going to not the venues really you really WanNa go to. He's going and he's playing his base his audience as Kevin an older audience. Yeah well I certainly would be playing for young kids. Look at me well you can. I played young kids all time. I only plead the city would want him visit it up. Like I'm going to Nashville. I'll be there November twenty first going to Denver Portland. Just did Seattle Tacoma San Jose San Jose. I'M NOT GONNA go to Wisconsin like Paulie did in the documentary okay. So only watch me. When I saw that documentary I became so depressed? And I'm like there's no way I mean 'cause I eventually I was thinking I would love to travel comedies at once. I know you can say no to gigs. That's right you can't you don't have to go any lately. I've done stand up for a while and it's bizarre because as you feel when you say no you're like fucking my life up. Now wait a minute. So you're For our listeners. What was depressing about it? Let me what. What was depressed? which she's talking because we keep in mind he's going to support his mom who's going through some health problems is you know? He's kind of he knows. Oh is that he's his biggest as star kind of behind him. So it's a little depressing right. We'll that's what was it in the beginning it showed him on. MTV All this stuff. And then he's in Wisconsin with overweight people signing their poop. All of us trying to get that extra five dollars out and trying to sell t shirts and the DVD moody was rich. Don't don't they own the Communist. His mom did but I don't know how she left. It had any. I any idea what the financials are. But he's still very talented. He's still running at right. I yeah sister took his mom's place. There's a there's the whole family was a few that Simmons I think. Oh there's more than just him in his sister L. K.. And you know it is because he's still very talented. He'll he'll do great eight and You know he's performing is this is actually working on a one man show. Yeah well it seemed that that was a one man. Show that that the DOC stand at like he's working on something something. Different one man shows a little different. You know it's a little theatrical as well as standard because he's had a very interesting amazing late and drunk environment hanging out at the playboy mansion all the time traveling but he'll even talk about about how well it's a little depressing. Be Having been a former kind of very big star and then you know maybe somebody abreast as behind. You buy new. Want to try to get back there but it's harder at Ouray rh Our age to appeal to the younger crowd the appeal to. MTV's that's where it made them seem to look down right right. Like I said I. I've always enjoyed that but now I'm older. It doesn't matter where I go. It's going to be up as I would have made it like when I was younger. I say that all the time. Yeah when you're young. I'm glad I'm achieving achieving success. At a time when I can really enjoy it and I'm not sober a more mature and I can handle you know what I mean like if I got this kind of success yes what else twenty. I'd be dead climate. Even younger younger. They held him to go. But down times and you see them go through a lot of have problems in in public gesture. Imagine if your best days were when you were like sixteen or fifteen that's when you're the biggest star suck you so having I mean I happened is in a career. I think it's a slow. Bill is not like oh I hit a big now. I'm down again. It's like the slow kind of development. Oh I had this plateau now this to you have to really enjoy every single every single step now but you came out the door are it. Sounds like you came out the door running. You went straight from college which was apparently exactly what you wanted to do in a ghetto to the mean streets. Typically throw some signs to talk and So you went to the college and you came out how you started doing the same thing letting US Promo at La I can have. I did a lot of commercials promos and movie trailers thousands of produced in Rhode Island and I got board of that too like after I worked for. CBS promos for them said Okay now going to work for their the number one network at the time and as soon as he promised them and then I said you gotta break off my own thing and so I started my own company and I started doing workout videos and commercials and And then he does have a lot of different clients I worked on for. Martin Scorsese I did some. I did did the logo. I World Cinema Project. I got nominated for an emmy. Something happened since that are a little plateaus here there. So if we were at Carey's house we would be seeing a lot the rest not emmys but there's a lot of wars video because they were not in the bar when you work for twenty years and video you win some awards awesome. Well you would hope but you certainly did. I mean you've got a levels of success. A lot of people are asked and ladies he single can find him on tinder under. Find me on every every dating APP alive. You really do dating. Oh that is so cool. I just started doing those and I like to go through. I'm Jay. I'm on Latin American. I'm on Mexican Cuban ver that's for humanitarian reasons Trump deporting import a twenty five year old. From trying to give back. I love that. I'm I'm dating APPs to. Yeah Yeah which one are you on. Rose on hinged unhinged. That's for plumbers. He everybody that contacts me is not real I would do the harmer's file. I'm not on that one yet. I'm thinking of getting there all Nigerian males males here. I know yeah no I I. I don't like updated because it's faith you don't know who you're getting until really you never see any I mean it's none of none of Israel. What are you carrying? None of it's totally real dates tons of okay and I was like okay. This isn't working for me and I won't go to dinner with somebody because if I do I will know the two minutes I'll walk in. I'm going to know whether I'm GonNa like you. Well first of all look this way. You're getting a free meal and the one I paid for myself. I'm a feminist remember. You don't have hasn't remember. He didn't tell them I did. I said a comedian a feminist. I'm telling you well I look at like you're meeting somebody new whether everybody's got an interesting experience in life experience is to carry. Does it for the free dinners. Don't let them. That's how I saved money to go on dates. Is that on by any beer. Alcohol dates when we feminists yourself. Then your date feels what about that which is not they. Don't feel okay about getting you drink from themselves. You saved my I go ahead and use the driver driver. I would love to date a sober person that could drive. Everywhere I wanNA designated driver designated driver driver would be a fantastic date for. That's what I am. That's the driver unless you drinks wine then still better doing comedy. Comedy dating is fun because even if it goes bad it's a it's a material fear Santa Absolutely I. I haven't been on a date for twenty three years so aw I was married. Twenty seven years and going on the. I know exactly what I want so the minute I meet these men. I'm sorry by a discount. I'm very picky your rookie though. 'CAUSE y'all be along somebody the second you walk Ed judging them. It's a visual first and second they a half to be imparted with me and third. Their politics imposed data questionnaire is generic to hand out or like no it is instinctually. I know it I feel it. I just know we've got to stop meeting guys at bars. They don't I need them. These apps and there you could tell there looks based on the APP to for normally. The pitchers look so much better. And these guys they look really good and choose them and then she'll go to the date and she'll come back to. That guy was four foot two and five hundred pounds. Yeah me too really repulsive hunt. Was this one guy. He was really good looking. He walks in. His house was built which linebacker. Yeah it is shoulders with that they too. It was just this why I mean it was it was yeah. Love photos are easy to make you look real pretty well now. They are because so many apps that fix you right. I mean Jimmy you got that one with the pussycat and that that must get a lot of checks. Do you recognize that I do. Yeah where do you recognize it from is is it. Playboy isn't what is really Chateau Vert Renno Amish. To Michael Jackson's thriller cover. Oh Burt Reynolds. Fortunately I released the t shirts the same time they released documentary uh-huh to make money. Yeah I did make some money but there was some protests. Kay Michelson Movies House like my shirt did molest anyone so. I don't think that you should blame my shop. -solutely lutely comfortable Michael Jackson's bedroom very we did we did an episode on sex traffic in Pedophile steam. That sounds like wow I had fun. No I'm sure yes I am sick. So what are your politics saying. I'm very liberal. probably Socialist Democrat or democratic socialist. Me Two different things. I didn't know that she's a communist. Yeah no no I'M NOT I like Elizabeth Warren Bernie United big trump. Vanik Hell Hell. I'm a New Yorker. I knew his game long time ago. Big that he was in New York he didn't win. Because all New Yorkers was an asshole he's a gangster he's A Conman Hustler. You name it. And he's a he's a dumb ass. I don't think he went to wharton claims to but I don't believe he did wait. A second I remind has been went to wharton. Horton in the end. Doesn't really make a shit of no. But it does. Because he got his of his merits. Not Because Daddy pay you know gave them wing or something but but I wanna go back to something no like big guys gig kind of heavy big guys like big on. I don't like big hips appr hip. I didn't I never heard of women. Are you dating. I was this one guy. I was big hips. Yeah the girth of America becoming bigger and bigger. Most men have become Whiter Whiter. Not In the hips. That's weird. Yeah that is is weird so some girls are looking for hip guys. You're looking for no hip barrel. All right sorry I digress but yet we knew trump was a dick I mean I would. I was shocked that one and I suffer from trump derangement syndrome. Very much yeah. I don't say yeah I I just can't and a lot of the guys I live down South Bay and everybody's Republican so the my Dick is bigger than ASMI. Jimmy with a record yeah I got it expunged. Oh Wow and did you get an expense because of the change of laws or you. Just you know. I'm the attorney that I had made. Sure that at some point that I could get after after successful probation I could get it expunged thous part of the plea deal. Because she thought that I wanted at that time I thought I wanted to be a lawyer. So Thousand Orton it to me back then and so she made sure that after successful probation I would have it expunged so so eight years ago criminal record they can and then after Charlottesville probation were not. Yeah you can You can become a lawyer. There's lots of lawyers that have if I was a criminal and I was in jail I would just like sit down and steady like a Mojo. Become a lawyer get out and then help everybody else. There are people that are in prison that have taken the bar. They studied in prison and taken the bar. Did you have to pay a lot to take the ball. Not really no not too much. The cost law school. You know the cost which we pay for if you're in jail right. I don't know tax. Maybe yeah see there you go so if you want to become a lawyer gets jail there. You Go Did you when you're in law school you do. A lot of rights Is Stat healthier and needles writing. It helps me with with the discipline part. I think more than sort of the creative writing art because it was a everything creative was like you know. Iraq's which issue rule analysis conclusion. So it's not like creative writing or funny in writing at all so let's just put it into a formula and so put but it taught me that you know that I could write for hours. You know what I mean mean without getting. Is that what you do right for hours. A joke number but if I needed to have to write my way out of prison or something are you. Are you in the mindset of right a joke days no no especially now. I'm on cruise control man almost like a retired comedian. The jets travels a lot folks. You you already have your set nerdy working that side. Yeah I'm working that set and then I you know. I also teach a class here Actually Gary's place really a sand bar next to this bar so you you teach stand up comedy class. Yeah Oh my debits so recall what days. It's on Saturdays. Two to four PM. I love head. I could take that. That would be so much fun and we have people with fourteen years of experience and no experience at all and some of the I think enjoyment comes from seeing someone was so scared to even in getting up in front of people and then see him crush at the comedy store. We've had we've had people go from nothing to stand up in front of people his client from two hundred owner people in the main room of the comedy show which is amazing to see the couldn't stand up in front of five people in the class and and after a while they got they worked on the set or coming happiness and the performing in front of hundreds of people standing up in front of five people sometimes harder than two hundred because once you get to two hundred zero kind of blank out. You don't see anybody or hear anybody can be a bad thing to I. I went up. I was with Judah Dane Cook and Tom Green in the main room and this girl went up before me and then blanked out. And I'm in no after me and forgot her set dead for like a minute and blanked out happens and how did she continued Just kind of took like forty five seconds on it and then forty five Senate was down like an eternity hundred fifty people in the room that you gotta set back issues very funny too so that was good but it you know it can be very intimidating definitely. I took a comedy class and I hated it. I went up. I try to do my side stomach my. IBS was hurting. Felt like running to the bathroom. I couldn't I hated it. I'd rather do sketch comedy. That's more fun. Everyone has their thing. Yeah but I thought I would like it because I have a big mouth and always lecturing so I thought I would be a great comedian now as well. It just takes time. I didn't have that I'm going to be. I actually didn't start till I hit fifteen on my fiftieth birthday. I signed I'm fifty three and I just signed up for class when I hit fifty and I actually took a class That's how I met. Heidi we took a class from the same guy. Adam Barnhart oh yeah uh-huh and how that's how her and she's haven't seen you at the clowns before I was there quite a bit. I haven't done any standup since this last December. Because I've been actually down doing the podcast and I feel like no one free time. God is making you look look young so now I WANNA take pot. 'cause reason to do it we actually have you stood on. You know she's married. He's Asian also once you go Asian. You don't need persuasion okay back to you back to you so your raw says is you. Don't write everyday. Thank you right when I'm taking a dumb else. A lot of people think of a lot of money. When I'm like Shit Got Shit? He thinks a lot of stuff on news eating with Donald's and taking ship Young Donald to Gary is embarrassed and our numbers. Jerry's embarrassed wearing adult scatalogical comedians. Latin scatalogical yeah comedy. That's like relating to that can stuff so gary without you doing drugs or alcohol or anything. What is your comedy dating married Mary? What is it racial topics? Tired satires satires now like I hate women. It's just about like that perspective. Frontline perspective of hating that he hates women coma. The century man is called the Sandri misogyny. He's not a woman he's a man. Hating was Sajjan is men who hate women. The Sandri is women. who had been I under heard that term? Yeah and Sandra interesting. Oh only grandma your term thank you you do see I told old you. Labeling is important but I found that out in Grad school. I didn't even know. And somebody said you're a mess Andrus from like a what a seamstress us and I looked it up and it's women who hate men the opposite yeah. is on the centrist. Sorry the tender site that you're using the web separate. How many sites are you on ten boyd? Several several chime that you have to extending swiping right now. Like two of them are white three or swipe based and the rest are like on online online. K-K-KEEPING plenty fish tender Brian. I'm on GRINDR BASE JAS away. Isn't that for men I think. So thank you we did. You just meant for men. Yeah well they're gonna add it that it's kind of like playing a video game like playing space invaders now. Yeah I love it. My sister doesn't I love. I'm a give that shit to me and I try to do it. And then she gets mad because she doesn't appreciate the choices that I made. But I figure gary dating is like a video okay. Do you date ally. I used to when I started before I talked about dating and now I have trouble finding dates I used to when I was kidding around about dating dating a lot I used to date a lot and then as as my comedy career has gone down the dates go down as they get older. It's still playing video games. Playing space invaders swiped the wrong when you get a space invader who moves your place and takes his but carry scary as it is to the space and random person I mean. How do you know she's not going to be a rapist? That's what he prefers. Because there's so many rookie myself I mean to be. It's all fun and Games meeting some new person when I was younger. Like the percentage of dates. I give away highly class. Swipe right like one or two and now it's down one out of thirty or something. So that's that's why I'm I'm like the world's worst baseball players started out hitting two for one and now it's like wink going down but it's it's the photo. Do you have a smile in your phone. Okay good I really Jimmy is dating. Yeah Oh man. I have to really talk about that. We've heard about marriage where you really marry. No over. Not even Asian they finish sham. No actually I've been dating the same girl for two and a half years and she just moved in. So Oh that's a new challenge of the long. Make sure you put the toilet. No Right. She's why yeah she's actually half Latin but she looks white quartering. No she's Spanish Mexican was exactly. Yeah now they call it. Spanish banish. You'll never feel right. Oh I'd never I thought once you go white you don't get pulled over at night. That's a good way gary. Just Whitey's you'll go for the the whole color range dates mostly black women because they think he's black because of Robinson I don't discriminate eight based on race color only religion. Yeah he doesn't he doesn't date. You need US trump supporters. Now wait a second for all your listeners. We're not racist. This Is Us 408 - DR227

"It's time for the daily review podcast dedicated to reviews and discussion TV movies and books look for us at daily review on facebook and twitter and Daily Review Dot Com on the web at DA l. e. y.. Review Dot Com. This is ball's tonight here discuss the eighth episode of the fourth. That season of this is us. This one was called. Sorry I always said always say like a million different the voice when. I'm sorry I'm sorry I try to be funny when I've when I've done something wrong. Here's the deal. It gets much much practice at saying it. Oh I was going to say it. My policy is don't ask for permission. Chest apologize after the fact or just never apologized and some snotty will about you. Are you captain apology. Do you enjoy bum apologizing during left and right Oh you do like do you feel like you say sorry a lot to people all the time not for real. Do you really like is. I'm always I know women say it's so much more like I will jose. Just if I'm in a meeting I'll be like I'm sorry but you know was this the this is what I do. Use it like that. No it's mostly just focused towards you the dirt. I finally some saying it more torch children lately because all like they're teenagers and I feel like I will like kind of be tired of their the antics and then I'll be like that I'll be like I'm sorry. I'm sorry I totally fleet so yeah I read. They're your cell phone in the pool. I his mom just had enough today. Then some reason this reminds me of US South Park episode. Oh it was their take on the deepwater horizon disaster. Okay and I don't know if you recall what happened just after the a disaster but audience you might remember the chairman or CEO or some some high ranking official at BP appea- put out these commercials where he apologized for the disaster and it all came off as just supremely greenlee disingenuous especially when everybody found out that he waited until like his ski vacation or something was over before he came in and did the apology tour and all that does so south park has they. They made their own version of the deepwater horizon than they have the BP guy do these commercials but but instead of however was he did it in the commercial which I can't remember They show him just like skiing down the slope the and then he takes off his goggles. These like oems horrid and just little things like that you know like on a yacht or or whatever so sorry. That's funny. That's very funny. Do you agree with Kevin's assessment. That when you're a kid saying I'm sorry is very heartfelt heartfelt meaningful and when you're an adult is it just doesn't excuse whatever happen will kid stakes. Adult stakes are different stakes in the restaurant charges for him to completely differently. Yeah loud. Yeah Yeah Okay but I agree because most of the time. Don't say sorry it's because something pretty huge has happened and when kids say they're sorry. It's usually usually an accident or a mistake that they've made which is not really the same as an adult. Sometimes people say they're sorry when you know they. They meant to do what they did and now they would would like forgiveness but you know they meant to do what they did in the first place you know there wasn't really any like Big Lake audit realize that if I'd like dumped the entire milk container Over it would spill like you know. We're little kids are genuinely surprised when Steph when things go wrong sometimes you know poker. They don't affect the results when you're an adult you kinda you Kinda know the results but you do more risk management. That's what I feel like adulting really is it's just risk management the entire fucking life. How much and what will happen? So that's our leading into Kevin's story. Yeah I mean so I think the whole getting involved involved with cassidy. It was like a risk management situation and was like feels good in the moment. We both need comforting. You know we're both going through some rough stuff and so you you know on my procon list. I'M GONNA say I get to have an orgasm. Perot so the rest of the HSINA goats. I'm GonNa say per who cares forgiveness later or deal with whatever messy nece comes up later. Seems to be their their opinion too. I think so yeah. Nikki is a little harder on them in that though he it is the harder on Kevin. I wouldn't I mean he calls them both morons but he specifically hard on him. Because you know I guess if you think about it I mean cassidy. He is a known entity that she's in a vulnerable spot right now whereas Kevin's come into town to help Nikki. He's not coming in as the wounded bird. You know where cassidy is the known soon wounded. Bird Albert what all and there's will they won't they about getting that marriage back that by by sleeping with her. You're basically early. You know you're telling her one thing like hey you can fight for this marriage blah blah blah. But then you know you're you're kind of making the fork in the road where she's like edging on on the other way yes sell well but I mean the husband's still was pursuing the divorce and within this same episode which I can't remember when she gets the divorce papers but I think that's what propels her to come to the. What do you call it the motorhome anyway trailer motorhomes propel themselves trailers need to be drug around around? So it's the the difference. Yes I would say that is the difference and also I just think that okay. Let me ask you this question because I feel like you know this is a thing. Do you think it's wrong for hunting. Adults to find comfort in one another in in this case she separated the excite. She's on the way to signing divorce. Papers at least throughout this episode and Kevin Single is it is it. Is it okay for consenting adults to like find comfort physically with each other I think so I think so too right here they do it like crazy in Sweden. which you know about Sweden's like the head what would you say the the boundaries about the about Consenting adults are little lower in in terms of like Any kind of social problems for for that that would that does that might be caused by consenting adults having being relations all the time wow okay. This is what I heard. Hey you know what I think. The Swedes are pretty progressive and terms of that kind of stuff and so I mean I will honestly say that I I can understand whereas like an extension of friendship after you get past like talking hugging. Whatever it's like you know if you WANNA show that you care about somebody else like I don't know that it's like so crazy amnesic dating something? Obviously guys dating in people's live together stuff like that but I'm talking about like this part where they're like friends and they're trying to kind of be like comfort you know like is it. Okay I I guess so. I mean there's there's nobody getting hurt except for themselves in this I guess where you let your heart or your brain go right. What did you think about this? Whole idea of Kevin Feeling this really deep need for Jack Right now in his life and using zing those parachute flashbacks to remind us and even like switch places between Jack and Nikki and now using nicky as the Syria? Did we already know that. Nikki was a surrogate for his dad. Did we need it illustrated in this way to us or did you feel like this was very effective. I felt like the first time Washington that it felt. I Dunno heavy handed a little. I did to join US Jack in switching places with Nikki and are we just supposed to believe in those moments that everything that we saw the Jack Persona sonal say was actually Nikki's words but coming out of Jack. Yeah he so because I kind of took it the other way I kind of took it like is little both Tell what does it mean. You're you're saying he's like he puts it through some sort of filter and it comes out and Jack's words but they weren't really the same words but I mean and then when he switched back to Nikki wind up saying the same thing anyway so we like he said. Shame on you. Shame on you to like Jack N.. Nikki right right So I guess is it feel important to you to to to understand if those were Nikki's exact words or if you did filter through like Jack Filter her like does it. Does it feel like that was like something that we should be clean into an audience. They wound up serving the same purpose which was to make make Kevin Question why what he'd been doing kind of the way that he was dealing with cassidy in particular So I guess not I guess not I also felt like it was pretty heavy handed to To have the physical Jack Change places with with the Physical Nikki in today's world. I think it was enough to have him have those flashbacks to the parachute. I thought the parachuted itself. Though was a very effective metaphor for Jack in his life in terms of Understanding object permanence with a little kid as little announced that little guy was a little bit older than object. Permanence will come into play but the concept of like my dad. I can't see my dad is my dad here and then the fair she goes up my dad that was always here. He's here and then the the parachute goes back down. Oh I can't see my dad. I don't know where he is. He's not here. Oh there's my dad's face I think somewhat reassuring during this time on that like your dad was always there even when you can't see them even when the parachutes down DADS holding the sheet outside of it and so I think either like that. I think that it's the kind of thing that I tell my kids. That like you know I will still be in your heart. I will still be in your head. My words will still be inside you when you can't see me that's the kind the stuff that I feel like the parachute really shows visually which was was great when they use TV and the visual medium the way that you want them to as an audience which is i. Don't just tell me about it. Show me like it's a it's a visual platform. You know showing me so showing that like your dad is still outside that she'd even when you can't antsy I'm then that is like like you always have him Kevin. You always have him. He's not physically here but he's here. He's here inside Nikki. He's here inside. Rebecca your siblings all that kind of stuff realizes that just in time to disappoint him. Oh ouch I think that you know I really wonder. Because they don't have jack go off and sleep with anyone or anything but fewer your call. I mean Jack as a younger guy you know I mean. He was going to rob the Var when he meets Rebecca like he wasn't this straight Arrow necessarily surly. And I think that that's something that Gets kind of we put him in the Superman position all the time but he wasn't without flaws you know and so I think that that you know Kevin kind of cut it makes him out to be a saying in a Lotta ways or all of them. Do for God's sake we all do but when you really look at the story told about job I mean you know doesn't always he he drank and drove. You'd be did a lot of different things that you know. Were the great British choices. Ever so if Kevin has a MISSTEP and sleeps with a friend when he's feeling sad and she's feeling sad you know. Does he deserve. Shame on you. finger-wagging egging I don't know you know I don't know if it's if it's like that nothing. He wasn't doing it with malice as what I'm trying to say. What did you think about the bar scene? And unlike the physical need that men have. We've discussed this about You know just sort of the physicality that Ben can have needing to feel that like punch are needing to feel like punched back yeah. I've never felt that need. Oh Bull you've said that you want to go beat someone. Well yeah but I don't want to receive any beatings. Kevin was there to to get beat right whether the wave demand and was like in in tag is the the guy. Yeah he was he was literally looking for trouble. Guess he was Nassim. I've never really had that. Definitely people do right. I mean people who I've I've seen another movies anyway. They they need to feel their pain so some people like cut their arm or do things like that right so they can feel the pain. We know they're feeling they feel physically like Like in the episode were Riggins kind of sides with his dad and his dad turns out to be the piece of shit that everybody tells them told him that he was so he goes back to the bar where he and his dad had hustled. Some guys for Pool and the Guy Beats up out in the parking lot Same deal right. Yeah where it's like you you sometimes you need to have that expressed in a physical away of which is a. I mean it's twisted but it's not uncommon. I guess you know people hurt themselves. Viz certainly I think women it comes out in other ways maybe the an eating disorder. Maybe doing doing other physical things to themselves being really really hard on themselves. physically I think that it comes out a little different always. I don't only women go seeking to get into a fist fight but I do think that a punish themselves in much the same way that that men in that position. Chen are trying to physically punish themselves. I wonder if I can keep drawing parallels between Megan Kevin Riggins and Kevin. I bet you could will. Aw I bet you I could well yeah with drinking. They're both handed a life based on things that they were just Kinda born with you know. Yeah Minya they they have to work for it but but still not you know natural talent and gifts you know handsomeness is just a gift gift. Yes so and they both have it so they get preferential treatment. So Yeah I bet you I could keep doing this. Will you knew on that because we have more to talk about so I was really grateful that we got through the the bar scene without without drinking and cassidy. Nikki found him in time to go to the hearing. I think it would have been a massive disappointment. If they wrote it that he somehow missed that court hearing. Oh my God. It would have been a huge setback in his character art but in a lot of other movies are stories right would not have happened. I mean the whole reason why you came out there was for the court hearing and then him miss it because he was you know basically punishing himself over stuff having to do with the past and all these things you know. Yeah that's usually would. It probably happened in every other movie or TV. Show right this network. TV NBC. So we're not gonNA have that happen but I was grateful not to go through. That game thrones was kind of famous for those those missed ships in the night. You just a moment too late Kinda kinda things. But this ain't came thrones. Yeah the the would've ripped our hearts out is his character. ARC should follow. You know it'll have little waves but if you were to follow like a a trend. He's on on the on the upswing here you know yeah I would say so I hope so. I'm crossing my finger so at least according to casting. It sounds like some new people coming into his life. So Sophia Bush was Liz cast for this spring season now of the of his arc and were guessing she's GonNa end up being the mom to his kitto. This is what we're thinking right. Well known person run outing running out of time because if you recall. He's got to lay down some permanent into ties here at some point in order to have a kid that age for that flash forward I thought this Jennifer Morrison bit would would play out a little longer. She's already requisite Louis famous enough to have been that but nope totally wrong. Do you think that when they drop cassidy off at the diner that that's just it that's the last of cassidy sell I think so she. She may come into play. You know as a support person later in his life but I really think so I mean really. It's not that part. It's the part where she's like outside the window. Oh and she's like they're kind of exchanging there. I hope you get your happy ending. I hope you get your happy ending. That part That I think was like the I mean. If that's not a good bye with the fog is is yeah you know I mean. That's that's a farewell. So I'm I'm pretty sure that that's the end of it for them Which I'm fine? I mean she provided a a great deal of introspection for him she She gave us a new character to think about the the female version of St for soldiers that I don't think has been depicted as clearly as we have had with cigna key for so long or really in a lot of other stories It's often shown as the Dad or or just the man in general and so. I think it was great that they were able to do that. The didn't feel super. PAC is twenty nine thousand nine so it's got to be a woman who has PTSD and as a soldier it didn't feel feel that way to me you know felt very like that's okay like yeah it makes sense to me and there's plenty of women in the military like this completely doesn't stick out to me it moves naturally If you guys don't know what I'm talking about Paul and I talked about this quite a bit. That seems like in Twenty nineteen. They would go out of their way. The writers in any story to insert a female character actor or Anything different than a white male character in order to show that story line and sometimes it would work and it'd be fine as sometimes it would be like this. Just feels tells weird like they are trying too hard to be diverse and it didn't actually fit the story very well but in this case it really did and I never thought about the way that she described describe it. She had a family and she had a community in the military and then coming back how she just felt like you know a person in a country with no map and she didn't know how to get her her way back home so you know I wonder. Do you think that that couple will get back together in a row now. Do you think it's done. I think yeah I mean I mean the the husband. I guess it's like he's he's got as much baggage about what the relationship was can't really face about what it is now. How so unless he can do that? Take her where she is now. In kinda just kiss the high school version of her go by by then you know they don't they're just co-parenting the their their kid at this point. Yeah well you know. And maybe that's the thing what I happy endings can look different. So you know if they both find people to be in relationships with and or not or whatever and they do successfully co parent then that can be happy ending to. It doesn't have to be the three of them. You know become a family under the same roof again. So I think that that's that's just as valid as a as a happy ending for them really you know successfully co-parenting were they can have dinner together where he can allow her to come. Sit with them. Yeah and that. That's not awkward and stuff so I feel good about cassidy and I think she's all done with us. I kind of wonder if when the this is US group who came to a couple years ago. If they didn't meet Nick Wechsler at that function and make a connection action that wound up with him guesting on on the show. I like that very much. That makes a lot of sense in case you don't know what we're talking about. We're talking about the Austin Television Festival that we go to every are your and it's called. ATS and this is us. Were panelists and Nick Nick. wechsler are to say his name. Pop punk He is what they call like an special ambassador order of for the festival and so that makes a lot of sense to me that they would have cross paths there. Fogel Fogelman wasn't there but Ken Olin was an in casting. People were at different points where the president of NBC. Yes so it would make sense to me that there were some connections made their it was definitely this this festival muscle. If you ever have any interest in it is a very casual festival. And so you know panelists and audience people and ambassadors and stuff would mix and mingle all at different events so it wouldn't be unusual that that would have happened at all. Last year we went to an event for drunk history. It was late at night and nick. wechsler or in the other ambassadors arranged for Burgers to be brought in a burger is so great because that was a husband night when we were all also hungry for whatever it's like they read the room just rate you know that whole crew. I don't know why we had all miss lunch. And it seemed like everyone was just kind of like so dying for dinner and all of a sudden these bags burgers going around. We're like Colin Hanks was there is surreal party. Yeah so and it was yummy smelled so good in there. Because you know if you guys have attended any festivals after a period of time especially down here in Texas everyone just smells like be okay. Oh you can't help it. It's not it's not necessarily like the worst in the world but there's definitely like a body we call it active trial. That's what Paul Calls. It writes like that. Smell all that like you've been outside all day and you almost like smell sunshine in your hair. Yes now it's just like this heat and You could smell that in the room. And so when Burgers came in it was like sweet. Relief for my nasal passages. I'll everyone's attempt to cover their bodies. Stink with whatever hand sanitizers. They were sticking in their armpits. You know like Wu and God so we glossed over the court appearance. It's a little bit and mainly I think just because that turned out as expected and the fact that he said No. I don't regret it and this is WII 'cause I admit my met Kevin all this that's also sort of expected the ad I think it was an it provided them the clip for all the sneak peeks peaks in all the trailers where he said I you know. I'm not remorseful then. Everyone's like oh uncle. Nicky goes off to a crazy town. Now I mean I you know and I said that is a there is a. There's a country song by Garth Brooks called. Thank God for unanswered prayers and a kind of feel like Nikki was is sort of channeling not like the idea that like you think you know what you want to happen but sometimes you know bad things can happen and you know you're you're praying things differently and they don't and then afterwards you look back you're like we'll thank God. It didn't happen the way I was pushing for it to go because this actually turned out better and it did because you know if he hadn't Austin therapist and he hadn't flipped out in broken the window. Then he he wouldn't have had Kevin any wouldn't have been brought back into the Pearson fold so much and they they also got a gloss over the idea that like there's no reason why Cassidy Nikki aren't going to still cross paths so in theory. They met a friend a friend that is what they both kind of needed needed for. All we know Nikki Needs Day. Yeah or or just you know they might just need to be that checks and balances for going to meetings or whatever you know. Just the occasional dinner owner something like that might be something that each of them could use. You know different. I feel good about the closing out of all that and I felt I. I felt hopeful that by inviting Nikki. Dinner for Thanksgiving that this is going to lead us down. I'm praying a good pass. We know that Nikki is at Rebecca's because bedside at the very end yes so we know that he remains close to them on some level. Let's just touch cages. A little bit is because she's got only a little bit. Okay so we are talking about kate in and you know learning how to be a parent at home when you have a parent who's working outside the the house and you have all those milestones happening with the one. And how do you deal with that. How do you deal with the guilt? How do you deal with the excitement as the one who's away from the house? How do you deal with those firsts? What did you think as a dad who was outside the house and I was home? I feel like I'm GONNA say my own self. We're so frigging busy. I couldn't have tried to manipulate those firsts in order to sync up with something that you would have gotten a C.. On I mean everything's kind of a I I in those early stages and then we had a a lot of baby twin amass twin premiums for a long time that had various extra things things going on like we had to put oxygen on them and in a poll socks and we had to deal with reflects reflects reflux Madison Madison and and We had just a lot of extra happening so if we could the the thought of impeding a milestone so that one of us could see it that would have been like what are you doing. That would have seemed weird weird. I'm sure it's very common. I'm sure I know that people who Leave Kiddos with a babysitter. It's always It's been in books and movies reasons. Have where where it's like. Don't let them take their first steps like without their kind of thing where you're supposed to like kind of pushed him back down like not let them do it before the mom or Dad sees but I don't. I don't know that that's not necessarily the case when one parent's working parents at home how I don't know that the at home parents opposed to just like I mean this will have other. I like at night when the when the other parent comes home like that Kinda seems a little contrived a bizarre in this they didn't. They didn't have much time time for Kate and toby this week so they had to kind of jam this contrived thing a little bit so it's like well obviously toby's too busy because not not because a work but because of his dedication to cross fit it's Ray. They definitely tried to make us feel like toby's awake because he's completely busy at the gym. And you know this is bull. And he's he's much more worried about actually creating the story on on like video rather than actually experiencing it in person. He's much more worried about getting the picture or getting video then he is about being there which is two different things because it's like he wants to show his crossfire people more than he wants to like. Experience it with the baby. You know Um which feels icky you know. I think that's what would stand out to me like. Is it more important. They go grab your camera or can you just sit your ass down and then if you were here you'd see it you know. Well I mean as the guy that always grabbed his camera It wasn't because I wanted to show somebody was because I wanted to. I wanted friend posterity like we didn't have cell phones. You aren't making an instagram story to go publish have people say oh. You're so blessed ball like it wasn't like that but it is now and I feel like that's more what toby was trying to show. I see was like get it to the group chat. You know have something to show so I'm in. I'm not pooh-poohing doing that. I mean lots of people do it and it's no big deal but I'm just saying in the moment it's like he cared more about that. You know then maybe necessarily actually being there now. I am positive we are supposed to focus on the fact that kate feels like she has to keep it from toby that the neighbor gave him Avocado Avocado. Any eat it. So I know we're supposed to focus in on subterfuge of it all and the neighbor and her having a secret now her keeping a secret from her husband positive. This is the skeleton that we're supposed to be worrying about what other things might happen now. I know there's been talk of affairs and stuff like that. I don't know that that feels legitimate. Maybe an emotional affair with the neighbor where she's going to start telling a lot more personal smell things and he's GonNa Comfort her and they're going to somehow have this other sort of emotional affair if you will maybe they'll delve into that concept As a show but the I just don't see it I don't see it as more than that Just the keeping stuff from him being weird and awkward about about even the baby you know using the babies some sort of pawn for information like that. That feels like that's a great way to bust up of marriage. You know the emotional affair business. That's as far as I can see that possibly going and I don't even see that happening. I the the only thing that I could comment on about the whole subterfuge thing is I think. I think it's kinder to let him have the the memory. Yeah of yeah let them have it. I agree with you and I think it's I think you can in your mind. Say it like. It's his first time with dad watching like in your head. If you had to play it out right if you had to like tell yourself away to like like not feel all weird about it you just be like okay. So yes the neighbor which should not like. She did it at the neighbor's house and they were was scooby on an avocado and gave Jacobite of it happened like super-quick and not like with them. Like you know goading the baby to try or something like that. You know what I mean like. That would seem like she was all in to make it happen when when toby wasn't there but it wasn't it wasn't like that so there's no reason to act. You know like you have to be guilty about it just cool out about it you know it into your head like you said just played out like well. It's the first time that toby fed him. Just just tell yourself that and frigging Lotta go. You know. That's me at least and I'm with you. I think that I think that in our own in our own marriage in our own life. It's I think it it is kinder under to just say this is a vision that they need to know and if they really don't need to know like are you just doing it to be. I don't know so factually accurate to the point of hurting the person's feelings feeling like xanten necessary. Oh you know what I wanted to not leave kate before we mention the Flashback version of Kate with mark because it was really really small but it also felt a little weird mark shows up and she says oh I miss you. He says prove it was kind of kind of a little right. SAS turned into a little bit more when she describes the banana for lunch. Ray and it's pointed out like hey that's not enough food and she's a gay. Whatever ver okay but then? She says she wants to go see this movie. Practical magic which we found out a little nugget about Griffin Dunne directed it griffin condone. His also Nikki. How he's got y'all but then mark I why humiliates hers too strong a word but sort sorta like micro chastises her and says like but we're not twelve year old girls so we're not going to go see that how would you? I mean when I was his age. I probably would've said something about the same thing I mean I did. Did we go to movies stories like this. They don't even know. I don't know the movie practical magic I don't know it either. I never went to see right. We're not twelve year. Old Girls Right never was But I think it's a shitty thing to say rather than just say if someone expresses interest in anything and then you come back with like a condescending sending like but we're not babies kind of comment then that kind of shaming thing. Ed feels not great. Sorry I mean now of course would I even be looking into this. If we didn't have the polaroid picture oh we didn't know where this was going to go moment moment about mark where we know mark's going out to be something negative and Kate's life. No I don't even read into this. And you know calling Randall. Randy and all that stuff like that I don't know I was that kid. I would definitely been like. Hi Mrs Kate Hi Randy like. I would have completely or I might even say. Hi Keith brother like just to be a Douche rush like that's the kind of joking that totally would do. I I called all of my friends. Mrs Whatever. My friend's name was so I'd be like Hello Mr. Jj Hello Mrs Jj like whatever. My friend's name was like that was kind of like my mo and it didn't bother me at all and they would laugh and So I don't know that I thought he was being anything other than just like a goofy teenager but because we know he turns out to be a bad guy then. Yeah I'm reading into everything was without wispy moustache mark. We shouldn't a pole with that like Jean Jacket. You're wearing mark like everything he does. I'm like reading into his bullshit. Like did he have like one button. Button like can asshole would lay. I'm totally reading into everything so I don't know it. It was tiniest little nugget but I do. I did did think of funny that they dropped in practical magic for old Griffin. Done that those footy. Let's move onto the larger story of our slash. What's going on in the Randall Pearson House? Thus the many many story of that household is best. Chaperoning a little DEJA Melik time. Oh my God this is the least interesting being part of the whole episode but you laughed. You actually were like you've got to watch this part with the popcorn because it seems like they let the the lady that plays Beth do some silly business. You don't know her name. Susan COLUCCI Watts. Watts come the lady the lady. That's like the popcorn gag in in just two guys by GAG. I think it was funny. When she's a she's like she's got to be in that Nick? Nick I didn't think that was it was funny. I was glad you. We'd be rewind and watch again. That was funny. I was giggling than the rest of it. Just is a really long way way of saying that day just uncomfortable asking to go see her mom lines so they did milk it for as much dramatic affect as possible by making feel like Molina's definitely pressuring her to have sex bright. That was the preview hundred percent. What we're supposed to feel like Holy Holy Shit? He's got the balls to come in on day. One of chaperone dating and audibly pressure her to have sex. What what a jerk? That's what we're supposed to be thinking. which in retrospect come on come on audience? We know that could have been what's going on doesn't make any damn damn sense. They barely touched a pinky and she recoiled surely is not going to be laying on that line cleese so now. Wow we have I call her missus Deja Shawna. Shawna come into t giving day. Yeah that's they. They needed about twenty minutes screen. Time to to tell all that well in some storming upstairs send him away and you know what if you had to fight so hard to get a chaperone date so hard I cannot imagine it ending with me marching upstairs and having having my mom sent him away. What in the hell late I would not? That would be the end of it like this is the dumbest pairing of two people. If if you're GONNA be running upstairs and telling. Your mom sent away on a chaperone first date like I said the last podcast. She turns everything up to eleven. Yeah so there. She was at eleven. She was eleven up the stairs. Totally eleven ing get onto our our in our our story line because that is the thing that is going to be leading us through the much bigger season and arc alright to summarize. The flashback back portion of our in our time. Kind of the. I guess the culmination of the special relationship I would say of Randall. And Rebecca that from childhood that that kind of drove where their relationship went in later adolescence and young adulthood is. He still comes home and he doesn't need to For during during college and he helps get her this. This job I I thought it was really sweet that he did go in and actually effectively speak to the hiring boss and manage to make Rebecca's case I I feel like very very in a not. I guess because when we've talked about Rebecca in the past you have mentioned that she is always the Fifth Pearson. She's always liked. The weakest choice has the goofiest storyline. If any at all she's always like the the you know someone who's just commenting on someone else's storyline. So I'm I'M I. Guess I guess it makes sense that Randall ends up being the mouthpiece health piece for her. But I'm sad for Rebecca that she just. It feels a whole lot like she never really grows up up. We'll maybe under some man's guidance I don't know exactly who listen to this podcast so this may be a risky comment comment but don't most stay at home. MOMS have the same problem eventually as her which is at the skill set that they started with. Isn't what people are asking for now. Yes it's super common. Let's give Rebecca. This one is a Gimme. Now that she's back in the workforce and she still needs uncle. Randall the come get the next job. Then that's deduct points but but this one let's just give her any old mom or other stay at home parents all moods whose skills were her they were just outdated teen years out of the right would need something to get a job that they weren't qualified for but it seems like you would just say say that I recognize that I have been out of the workforce for X. amount of years. There are definitely jobs out there that they get that and they understand that you are someone who's coming back to the workforce force now. Maybe that's just twenty twenty thinking right now but I don't think you'd have to explain that to somebody else now. I think that Randall offering to teacher the software and have all all cut by Monday and be ready to start the job like hit the ground running. That seems like okay. Randall is actually a very unique Kiddo. That he is able to teach his mom mom you know and get her up to speed. You're right though one. She is up to speed. Though I pray to God she is not dithering idiot in the workplace because they make her that I'm going to feel so bad about this fifth place Pearson. Even in Death Jack is more interesting of a story line than what they give Rebecca. She's always been lagging. I don't know she came out of the gate when you look back to. When they're first dating as a confident smart woman young but smart and I just feel like I know? Of course. Her husband's death would be would be a huge blow to our confidence into her what she can handle but she had to know she wasn't GonNa know the software like did not have any shouldn't have anything to say to those things. Yeah I don't know and to have a seventeen or eighteen year old kid be able to better speak up for you then you can for yourself for you know. She doesn't like people. I just hope it improves. I hope that I like you. He said if we if we have to give Rebecca and Rebecca Story. Ah GIMME OAK. She's justices her foray back in but the way that Randall tells her at the end of the of the story. We're here for the last twenty years. He's been more the parents she's been more the child that worries me. That worries me that she's not going to find her footing. Were never we're GONNA see a grown adult. Rebecca fully formed fully capable again. I feel like she went from her father to her husband to her son and she never stood on our own TV. That feels shitty. You know and I wish we didn't have to see that because even really before jack she had like a potential fiance between her dad. And Jack you there was like that other guy that was kinda hanging around and so it's like I. I always disliked that I would want to see a fully formed Rebecca with her ideas and thoughts. A there had been a point when she was. I wonder if this period will be very fleshed out while Randall's college to doing whatever it is they did. Yeah you know. I realize that we've been talking about season five as the potential ending. Although I do not see that in an interview definitely saw their whispers of season six. I realized how much we still have yet to go. You know we still have kate having to decide to go out to La Remember. She's going to be like a waitress. And we have that whole life happening Eh. She ends up being the personal assistant to Kevin like we have quite a bit of story left to tell that disregards Rebecca's illness jack growing up. Tobin we in case getting divorced Kevin Getting married and having a kid whatever fights going to happen but as we go along here. It's like with a lot of stories to tell for it to really only be wrapping up in like twenty or so episodes so I gotta think there's this season six well food. Let's get into our and our for just a little bit more in terms of of Rebecca's health because there's been so much bantered around about is this Alzheimer's is this some sort of dementia. What could be going on with Rebecca? She's definitely definitely taking pictures of a lot of things. It was intimated that she lost her phone. She had to get a new phone. This was the new phone shoes yet. We'll didn't lose it. Misplaced placed it on a desk that got covered up. I don't know if that really counts. But her reaction is really more than that to me. It being placed on a desk or something placed on top of it. That's not that'd be the deal. The part where she was like. I need you to help me find my phone. You don't understand like the way that she was reacting that again let like I can't handle. Oh anything response. That is what is concerning to me. were she'd put the emphasis on the device as the thing that was supplementing her memory that she knew was faltering than you would get a frantic sort of reaction out of her her exactly to that make sense more to me them. We should look down on that piece of paper. Got On top of her phone. You know. That's normal that could happen. But her panic. That was the clue you know so I liked. The little full circle of having rand will be the one to help her. Make the bed because they had shown you know Jack in her making the bed so much at the beginning than they showed her trying to make the bed and again you as a mistake mom I make beds all the time I can do it without there being someone pulling on the other corner so I know it's like all the metaphor but it would be amazing if they have seen were rebecca successfully makes a better load. ooh That's kind of important step to being a full person. Can you make the bed alone. Had help all your life but can you do it by yourself so I thought it was nice that they had randall. Do it at the at the end with her to kind of show like okay. He's like taking up the other corner and apparently he has been for a long time. But I'm worried about Rebecca. I know that fans have put out there that it is Alzheimer's and she said showed up. No so this is going to be something more complicated than that. I don't know what it will be. Yeah me neither. I mean when you start talking about Alzheimer's and dementia and whatever other varieties of memory problems that People become afflicted with. I don't know what characterizes one over the other. They all seem like your memory goes away. I mean they. They wouldn't have separate names if they they weren't different. Yeah and I think that's where this is us gets into those things. Where like they bothered to have the neighbor? I believe his name's Garrett right in the show that they bother other to have him say like people have massive stroke can have you know like muscle spasms and having a bad day or my face has a hard time showing empathy and compassion. But the the stroke. Yeah you're they should help he pointed. That's why you can't show empathy in Grad use. Yeah that that would garnish initial whole different response. Out of people that's for sure Think about it. I think that whatever it's going to be there has to be enough differentiation for her to have definitively say A. The character does not have Alzheimer's. You know there's something else that we're gonNA start seeing with her. That's going to be real real. There are effect other even more dreadful conditions that eat up your brain in a way that site could be. It could be a brain tumor more terrifying a could be like. I said it could be a brain tumor or it could be something that's like you know. We don't know you know. She had that cancer scare a long time ago. Remember And so who knows. I mean it could be something. We don't know definitely only something to do with memory loss and that's been beaten on home here and the whole idea of going to see a doctor now. This is the second time in the season where where we've had somebody being encouraged to go to the doctor. Remember when Beth was encouraging Randall. To Go see a counselor and now we have Rebecca being encouraged to go. See a doctor. I definitely think that those parallels are gonNA come through at some point. We're GONNA see are parallel having some sort of health issue. Where they're going to be forced to see a doctor Maybe that's can be handled very differently. I don't know but I can see that how he sets up parallels geman either being something about that not sure what good call yeah gap so thank you so much for listening.
