Well, I think that's really important to highlight because at 29 years old, I suspect that you are the youngest of any of the candidates who have any traction in this recall race. And I know you're the only Democrat with any traction has the State party either tried to hurt or help you along the way. Well, I would say the mood in California is that if you were in established Democrat, you're publicly very supportive of Newsome and in private. That's where the entertaining conversations come out. So we've had Congress folks from from the federal level legislators, the Assembly and Senate on our state level mayor's offices. The E D. D various different people from different levels of government reach out privately support us saying This is incredible. Finally. A a moderate Democrat solution. But we can't publicly say anything because we don't want to come across as being anti party a little challenging. Well, welcome to politics, As they say Full disclosure. I was watching you yesterday live as you are breaking down the most recent jobs report and how the stock market will likely react in a short and long term. I mentioned that because although the national unemployment rate sits at 5.2% California is staring at, you know, while 7.6% to What do you attribute that disparity? I think it's our failing schools. I mean, look at the fact that we're the fifth largest economy in the world, and what an embarrassment were in the bottom bottom 20% of schools in the United States. It's horrible. We need to be teaching financial education in our schools. We gotta be teaching careers in our schools. Why are people graduating at 18 with two choices hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt or ending up on a minimum wage job? Medical or welfare. Or all three together. It doesn't make sense. It's no surprise. One third of Californians are on medical. It's a burden to the state, and it's not fair to the individuals who can't build wealth. So our schools are the big issue. You know, people always complaining. All we gotta have school choice like that's fine. But you're choosing upon choosing among schools that suck. We gotta investment schools. Well, some would say, And this is kind of adjacent to that issue. Some would say that we need to run our government more like a business. And it will then become more efficient in nature and responsive to people's needs. I'm with you as far as teaching financial literacy, Absolutely. But I'm not sure I buy the argument that we should run our government like a business because I think of businesses as for profit, and always putting the business first, not the employee or customer. Here's my question. Are you buying or selling the idea of government? Needing to function more like a private business it government can't function as a private business because government has to do things like providing social safety nets at a loss to make sure that people aren't dying. Right. Businesses don't have to enter those businesses, whereas government has a duty to provide mental health services. Drug services. Make sure that people aren't dying on the streets, which obviously Governor Newsom is failing at. I mean, they're homeless crisis is so bad we've got more people dying on the streets to homelessness. That gun violence and yet the governor's decrying how bad gun violence is. So you've got a lot of failures of government right now, which these are all things that I've been plans for fully outlined to beat kevin dot com But most importantly to answer your question. Look, there are some benefits that running government somewhat like a business not completely can't go all and will help. So, for example, my biggest one is bringing economies of scale right now you've got a government that wants to make tiny modifications to laws to maybe build an extra 1000. Homes per year. Or maybe get another 5000 homeless off the streets. These are not solutions that California needs. We've got to think big. We got to be thinking in the numbers of building hundreds of thousands of homes, which means reducing regulation statewide and streamlining, permitting statewide. It also means dealing with homelessness from the governor's office. Not just that the local city level because the cities and smaller nonprofits they can't provide the scale the government can as a real natural monopoly and being able to solve issues like homelessness and housing. Okay, lets go further down that homelessness road no pun intended. We talk about homelessness as a functional, inadequate or insufficient housing. But there's also the personal component of the issues of people who may end up on the street and it's not a financial issue. How do you address those individuals? Be it medical or mental in nature? Yeah, look here, 70% of homeless become homeless because of economic reasons. That's joblessness, Evictions, poverty, whatever schooling. But yeah, there is a population of homeless folks. Maybe the other probably 20% because there are other reasons in there as well, who become homeless Because of drug issues or mental health issues, And when people become homeless, they're much more likely to be affected by those issues because they're living on the streets. So then you end up with a greater percentage of people who have homeless issues or mental health. Issues and a drug issues. So how do we handle this? Well, first thing we gotta do is nobody should be sleeping or living on the streets. It's fine for homeless to be honored in our society, but they can't be sleeping at night on the streets. It's dangerous. There's violence. There's rape is very, very dangerous. We've got to get folks off the street. After people are off the street..

This is where we'll get to find out about their running game the last place renegade from twenty twenty one from twenty twenty. We'll get to see. Just how good. Nashi harrises and how. Good that line. How much line has progressed. Since the beginning of training camp how cohesive it is how well a place together. That's still a huge question. Mark as we know damn where junior is going to be starting his first game as a rookie. I left tackle kevin dots and left guard. Presumably kevin green or kendrick green at center. The veteran trae turner and szucs is over on the right side at right tackle so yeah that line as a huge performance ahead of it on sunday in for the rest of the year and people are going to doubt that line until it gives them reason not to. Most most big time quarterbacks make their bread and butter or make their money With those fifteen to twenty yard passes so hopefully it's like twenty five to thirty passes. "Wasn't available for that game. Really number of steelers players weren't available due to the kobe policies A year ago. But stefan digs he absolutely embarrasses steelers field that day a year ago. So now i want to see what the steelers able to do with the hayden back in the lineup. And of course this rebuild secondary and whether or not they add another nickel which still seems like on the on the table wise. I feel like they have to make haven't done it as of yet as the time of a recording this but this secondary needs to have a big game against stefan digs because honestly us one of the big reasons why the bills were so successful against the steelers on thursday night or i believe the game was played so hopefully ad they're able to contain him so only the very big and important game for our secondary i'm gonna i'm gonna go on the other side of the ball and yeah i agree one hundred percent the the corners in the secondary. We talked about that a lot. I'm gonna go running running game. The steelers are going to have to run the football. And they're going to have to run at just well enough that they can set up play action for once my goodness for once we are actually talking about the steelers. Potentially getting back to rothlisberger under center play action pass is driving the ball downfield. This canada wants to do every article for the website on thursday about mac canada's comments about play action. How creeds mismatches. And they can really start to utilize the tight ends the. Let's talk about the offensive line that would be opening up holes for the running game. Most likely najji harris out of the. Let's let's just assume right now. Turn right tackles a core for out of those five. Which player gives you the little bit of hesitation. You're thinking oh boy. This could go south in a hurry in in what sense. Sorry i missed some of that in the offensive line. Like what is the projected offensive line from left tackle. Obviously dan more to right. Tackle jews over. Which player do you think is kind of guy. this could go south in a hurry. If this guy doesn't do well. Shaw i would point directly i at the the young guy. Stanmore kendrick green. We still don't quite know enough about them. And we've seen kenneth green get bullied a little bit in his kind of welcome. The nfl moments like these guys are gonna get better but kind of lack of knowledge of the nfl. Playbook is a little bit worrisome In in that sense. I think a core for dotson and trae turner are going to be fine. It's an aggressive scheme. They can kind of get after seeing things but dan more tender green are going to have to do a lot of thinking and not as much just playing football at those upper levels. You really have to kinda understand all the intricacies what to do in team stunt against you when they blitz against you and given the size of nfl playbook there's just a ton of thinking these guys are gonna have to do So from that sense the rookies are going to be the the two spots. I am definitely honed in on to see how they perform in. If they're ready for this moment They'll get better and better goes on but there could be some growing pains especially early on in the season. Run it down their throats on the left side of the line. You don't have to think much when it's escape. Snap the ball and see the guy in front of you and just driving backwards. I remember in the preseason when we saw dodson and more together. And i'm sure you remember this michael. They were mahler's you think they can duplicate that in the regular season. It's not going to be as easy. Obviously but still. I mean that should be their forte. Right honestly i think the the best version of the steelers offense align is when you have dan moore author left tackle and you have a healthy healthy. All those dues are run block the first guy. So you're starting to push guys back. Nausea harris doesn't have to make someone missed three yards into the backfield instead trying to make miss at the whole. That's a big thing and like you said this left side of the oftens line datsuns. A people mover dan. Moore's of people mover tendering that still his thing. He's an aggressive type. This lesser offense line. I think is where the steelers are gonna find a lot of success running football an until zach. Banner gets back. I wouldn't try to run too much right at the point of attack behind core four. He's he's more that kind of pass block guy. But i think they're gonna find a lot of success with those double teams being able to climb in the second level over that left saudi off his line. Yeah i visited the steelers if they wanna go into buffalo and win in week one after run the ball they have to control the clock they have to they have to dictate what's going to happen offensively. And that's by running the football. So that's where i'm pointing to one hundred percent. We'll get into that more next week though. I wanna ask you one last question about one specific player in this player. No one really knows what's going on. And it's karl joseph. He was obviously acquired. He's on the practice squad right now. But jerry do lack or buddy gerbera from its repairs is that he's not really our buddy anyways he he said that the steelers play on activating games. If you're the coaching staff. You're mike tomlin keith. Butler tara lawson. Whoever is making these called the decisions. How are you. Utilizing karl joseph in this defense. Because it's already good. Does he make them better or is he just another body no he definitely makes them better at an honesty looking at his skill set he someone the teams like he could play a little bit of everything amino how much mike tomlin loves. This guy I remember when they played the browns last year all three occasions. Mike tomlin always brought up karl-josef when they played the raiders when he was there saying thing either Gush over this guy for years. They finally have on the roster. After years of hyping his guy. I feel used to be playing a lot of spots a little bit strong safety a little bit. Like a dime baecker heck even maybe into the nickel in that slot type role. I think he's gonna move over the all over the field a ton and he's not just to play one specific spot. Hopefully he's up to learning an entire defense of course of about ten days to that buffalo opener butts. I think the steelers got a real but numbers. Type a guy Someone gives some electoral edmonson rests. Give them certain packages get on the field. I think curl. Joseph is gonna play ton. He's complained special teams. I think this is a this is one of those editions that says is going to be kind of a sneaky. Good one is. I haven't seen the contract details yet. I don't imagine it's gonna be more than a million bucks or really kind of affect the salary cap that with the fifty three men rule now in effect so i i think this guy is going to play a ton team in considering how much the steele's coaching staff is. Hype them up. In in years past i of this will not be his final season. Pittsburgh either as interesting. Who do you think. In this last question farley go so if you if they bring joseph under the active roster they have to cut. Somebody do think that person is if they do decide to promote him from the practice squad this kind of where it gets tough. "For the steelers this year. That's a lot more than he's ever done. You need to monitor the hits. He takes you need to monitor how much he plays so for me. Backup backup running back as a key position simply for the fact. We want nause harris to be fresh at the end of the season. We don't want him to be run down and not the same runner anymore. We don't want want him with all these nagging injuries and still trying to get it out and going to say like doing something where. He's pushing himself too hard and ended the series injury. I don't want that the backup running back situation is one that makes me nervous because we need one. That's good and can take snaps away from from nausea heiress zach. Banner is an interesting one. If you wanna get into offensive line stuff now but zach. Banner is he looked really good. The one preseason game. He played a bit in and go field for those. That are listening on the podcast platform. Day scofield throws up. it's almost like someone predicted. The steelers would put these players in the on the i. r. and bring back the ones they did. Which give davis credit. He's he's typically right around here. So dave another home run for bt. Sc surprise surprise. The steelers will not enter the season with zero backup guards. You're not gonna do it. Was it was funny too. Because when they caught him. I was just like the steelers. Currently have no backup guards on the roster. They had four tackles two guards and two centers. Yeah so so is that is that banner as a loss of but we haven't. I mean we haven't had him. It's not really. Can you label someone a loss. I know the steelers have had some issues with kevin dotson his attitude on if it's his work ethic or like his work in the film room or something like that on the field he's dominant just lineup. Mall people Whatever they had with him he had those issues. Dan moore junior. I think he has a legit shot. Especially with as much as Tacoma core for has struggled in the preseason at left tackle Where he actually was better at right tackle which is strange So zach banner. Coming back you could see is one hundred percent. Can he retake his job back. And then it'd be you know cancun For beat out. Dan moore junior could happen. But may i'm. I'm gonna look forward to that. E everyone remembers the dwayne haskins. Big drive that he had where it was the left side of the line. Basically just bulldozing everyone and and setting up incredible holes for running backs where it was dan. Moore junior kevin johnson and then at center was. Jc asked an hour. And they those three were just killing it out there so those two kendra green man. They they could be something special. Sean manhattan puts five dollars in the tip jars is more than that left. Tackle left guard. That's that's what it's going to start the year off as like that. That's what you're going to get for at least three weeks They they've been a people mover. So i wouldn't be surprised by that. In the slightest. If it extends past as three week period like jefferson. i spoke about something you want to. I don't know that. Jeffrey honestly honesty. If dan moore can take that job if he and johnson can can be as good as they were you know obviously. They were facing backups at the time. But if they can translate that to push around starters because they just push guys around they pushed the entire like defense out of the way and jalen samuels is running through holes. You could drive a truck through for ten yards before he got touched like they were legit dominating the entire game. It was ugly. It was like alabama verses. Nobody you know. It was like that. That bad if they can get good push and do well against starters in the nfl you could. You could swing a you could swing a loss into a win with that. Kinda run blocking and nausea harris at running back. He didn't have those holes yet. The preseason you never had those two together on the line there he for most of it he had you know. Rashawn coward and tacoma. Cora for dodgy hasn't run behind those two e it could be. It could be great. I am excited for it now. There's something i also want to address the live chat here. A lot of people are trying to say zach. Banner socks he's overrated. He's this he's that like honesty zach manner. When he's been healthy has been a a great run blocker. Haven't seen enough of in truly judge him in pasro but his his swing tackle this. Of course the steelers run the ball majority of the time so we did get to see your of him as a run blocker and about fifty two snaps of it as well in his in the previous season before he tours. Acl do you think it's a fair assessment of people calling banner overrated or is that Just because he hasn't been healthy well the one game he did play he played all but one snap next to stephan was new ski. Who was absolutely terrible in that game and he played one. Snap next to kevin dots and it was a pass play. And that's the play zach. Banner got hurt on like so. They played exactly one snap together. But banner is as a run blocker. He's as good as marcus. Gilbert ever was like he just is a really good run blocker. He's especially good on inside zone. Plays working off double teams and get into the second level or he is. He is great at that. He is going to make a difference. If he's healthy and playing he will be a difference in the run game and he solid enough impasse protection He's not great but he solid. So i i would be excited. Man a line of dan moore junior. Kevin dotson kendrick green trae turner and zach. Banner would be on.

"Be a backup to nashi harris. Some even thought that he could be trade bait. Maybe he's a player that could be if a team loses a running back and would they be willing to trade for many snell. Well that's not gonna work out. Based on the fact that any sales been hurt all of training camps say he is supposed to play against carolina. he's probably going to get a lot of carries. I'm anxious to see what he has left in the tank. James washington is number two on the list like i said earlier. I don't think jujubes misusers going to play. I don't i doubt that. Deontay johnson plays much but a guy like james washington is going to play. He might play just the first half but he's going to play when you talk about a disgruntled player when you talk about a player who was kind of not happy with his current situation then my goodness you need to make sure that you take advantage of every opportunity. And he'll get plenty of those with dwayne haskins getting the start so keep an eye on washington before i go any further by the way i compiled this list without using quarterbacks. So you really jeff. Where's wayne haskins like. I didn't put quarterbacks on here. We know that they're going to he. And joshua dobbs are going to be the quarterbacks for this game i felt. It wasn't necessary to bring them up. We're all going to be watching the quarterback position next the offensive line. I have a feeling that the steelers starting off of line that zach banner on the right all the way to chew on the left is going to be playing. And i want to see them get. Maybe maybe it's only ten snaps or one series or whatever. I want to see them. Get some good quality robson together all of them trae turner kevin dots in kendrick green. You name it. I want to see him all. I wanna see them get good quality wraps good pass protection. Good push up front. That's what i wanna see. Let's go to the fourth player. Zac gentry yes. Zach gentry. I don't think that farm is going to play much if at all i don't think eric iran's going to play much. If at all that leaves that gentry with a golden opportunity he in in kevin rader are really battling it out here for this third tight end spot. Could they keep four. they could. I doubt they will. But zac gentry it. He's been playing really well so far in. He's hasn't gotten much of an opportunity. Why pat farm youth eric iran. That's probably why he's going to get every look to really make a make the team not just make the team. But say i could actually be valuable member of the fifty three man roster can i can also catch big game for him. I'm anxious to see what he can. Do anthony mcfarland not running back number twenty six. I want to see if maybe we can see explosive play. I don't care if it's a screen. Pass a check down. Look at nausea. Harris did against the detroit lions last saturday night. Little dump off windsors one on one matchup makes a guy. Ms forty six yards later. I'd love to see different. Mac and nag is explosive. We as fans just have not seen it yet. My goodness just wanna see it break one. That's all i wanna see. Let's go to honorable mention for the offensive side of the ball. I had kaelin balaj. He's going to be back in the lineup again. He looks like he could. Maybe it's between snell and balaj for this roster spot running back. i'm not sure. But it's gonna that's gonna be something to watch for. Sure fryer meat if he plays just because he seems to be an electric person. You always want to keep your eye on him. And last certainly not least matthew sexton number eighty kick return punt returner everyone including matty parole in his war room. Podcast which. I listened to thursday on my way home from work. They're all saying matthew sexton could win a job matthew sex and if he's going to win a job he has to make some type of contribution as a receiver. I just don't think anyone in the nfl anymore. It's going to have someone on the roster who only returns kicks now. Matthew sexton has been by far the best returner they've had this entire preseason but my goodness why in the world would they keep him if he can't catch passes or do anything else in the offense. Ray ray mcleod. I've thought he came on real strong last season. Kinda tailed off at the end. But he was a part of the offense he would run those sweeps he would do. Some of the dirty work and he's had some catches in the preseason. Even if matthews's jackson has any prayer upsetting in unseating. Ray ray mcleod. He's going to have to do something outside of kick and punt return duties. That's just my opinion all right. Let's go over to the defensive side of the ball five players to watch on the defensive side and we'll start off joe schubert number forty five inside linebacker. I said that a lot of players will probably get the night off. I don't think he's one of them. I don't think bush is one of them either. They might only play a few series. As i watched that game if he continues on this path and as much as i couldn't stand the guy last year for him coming at me on twitter for just commenting on a play if if he could turn out to be a third round quarterback cornerback that actually plays well and plays a lot. I be ecstatic ecstatic. But you know what i think. He has a ways to go but he's going to get a lot of playing time. Let's see how he does. Let's also keep in mind with all these players all of them. Offense stevens doesn't matter. The reports are is a carolina are going up. They're going to play their starters and they're going to play them. They might use this as their final dress rehearsal. So someone like justin lane. Someone like you know. Joe schober even going back to the offensive side with the offensive line. They're going to be going up against starters. "Kendra green is going to be a highs and lows player. There's going to be times where you look at it. And say that he. He's struggling with his anchor. He struggling with some of these powerful rushers at you know at the nose. Tackle centers always struggle with that senator. You've got to snap the ball make sure that's delivered and then come up miyagi if a guy gets into your pads he's gonna drive you back That's going to happen. Fortunately that's a problem ben. Rothlisberger dealt with before. He understands that problem. If the guards are solid and the centers having a little struggle. You can help the center right. The guards have to be on their game. I think trae turner is looking more comfortable. He needs to get more time with kendrick. Green the guard on the other side of kendrick green. Kevin dots looks phenomenal. He showed up. He has looked like kevin dots on film. I think but my take on the whole off season in the pressure. They're putting on it because they're going to be tough on kevin dotson because when you look at the film when you look at the talent kevin dotson app seven dachshund could sleep walk through an nfl career. He could be a starting right guard and just kind of go through the motions and be that guy. One of those guys that never really river really is dominant but is good for a long time. Just simply because they're that big and strong and talented but kevin dots puts in the work if he has the focus if he has the mentality if he has the drive to be great. This guy is a future hall of fame. He that's that's his ceiling that's where he is headed. That's where he should and up. He should be an allen fan. Akaka like i'm not even talking david. Decastro i'm talking allen fanta kevin dachshund should be that level. The player and i think one of the reasons you're seeing the coaching staff may be be a little harder on him is because they know that they know he's that good dotson is going to be the anchor of this line this year. He just is on the left. Tackle gigolo core four struggled this game he struggled. He had some issues this game. He didn't look the best and at the same time. Dan moore junior. Looked good on the right side. He's looked good at left tackle. He's looked good at right tackle. he just looks good. So you're gonna get some controversy there. You're going to get some people say. Hey you you've gotta start. Dan moore junior over. Chuck will mochoara for we saw last year. Kevin dotson knots be the starter. We saw him start when he had to. But the minute there was a starter back. He was back on the bench. We're going to see that. With dan moore junior as we got late into the season and at certain points you you did see little snippets where kevin dots and struggle. Because he didn't know what he was doing on a certain play right. It wasn't a block. He ran in college. It wasn't something he had had enough time to work on. Have training camp and preseason. They have much time to work. Last season you saw where he was behind in very small snippets they were able to cover for most of the time in. Just simplify the blocks but there were times. You've got to run the playbook right. You're going to have to run some plays and there were times. Where kevin dawson was exposed where it was shown. He just doesn't know what he's doing on this play you know. He's doesn't have the technique down for this core for is most likely still the starter dan moore junior is definitely the better run blocker He is as good a pass blocker with the potential to be better. I think core four but a core four is more reliable right now to houma for are more reliable left tackle. And if you look at what ben. Rothlisberger had it left tackle for for a lot of his career there in all honda villanueva for decent chunk of his corrections. Along with ben rothlisberger Villanueva was a good pass blocker. Who was reliable. Chukwuma corey for is a good pass blocker. Who is reliable bats. What the steelers are gonna choose. They're going to choose the reliable. Because that's your quarterback's blindside and that's what you're going to get. You're probably gonna get For starting dan. Moore's gonna get to play. You'll be the number six. Come in the in the jumbo pack stuff like that and he'll get chances to play. I doubt banner. And a core for both gonna play seventeen games but a core for most likely. You're starter all right. "As ben's gonna play a half ben's gonna play the first half now they would never do that. I'm not saying they should do that. But let let's just use as an example if they say l. ben's going play the first half. That's totally different. If you're saying the starters are gonna play the first half now we're talking about. You're giving those players significant reps and significant experienced together. But that's not going to happen. They're not going to do that. So let's let's break this down from an offensive and defensive standpoint in terms of expectations so on offense one thing we've seen and this is dave scofield noted in his stack. This week was kind of like the tale of two halves. The steelers coming out of the gate on both sides of the ball have been sketchy at best it. The steelers offense has kind of been good but not great and great meaning putting points on the board. Did they've been good that they're getting first downs and moving the ball. But they're not at the point where they're looking dominant that they're looking good now with that being said the steelers starting projected offensive line. The five players from left to right. Szucs a core for kevin dots kinder- green right guard trae turner right tackle zach. Banner they have yet to play. Snap of preseason football together. They've slowly gotten them all on the field but not together this saturday night. Barring injury will be the first time that unit is on the field together so this is where if the steelers are using this as a dress rehearsal you to see that unit look good. You want to see that you know dominant you wanna see them pushing the pile you wanna see them. Protecting you wanna see them. Look like they are a cohesive unit. That's going to be difficult with the the lack of practice time they've had that's going to be difficult but that's what you want to see. You wanna see that and then it all has a ripple effect from there. If they're running well meaning the offensive line is blocking the offense of lines creating holes you know even after just two games and a handful of carries you know that nause harris can run wild on someone. He has the look the feel of an absolute star in the making but he needs at offensive line there to kind of open. Some holes limited the penalties. So that's what i want to see. Is that offense line. This is the first time we've all seen them together. It's going to be really really interesting to see how that pans out. Plays out however you wanna put it. Where with ben rothlisberger. I want to see a quarterback that is accurate. Not people want to say. Well i wanna see how he handles virga then going to be under center more. He's going to be running a new often. You wanna see clean exchanges. You wanna see handoffs at our crisp. you want to see him understanding motions shifts protections all that stuff. But i wanna see a quarterback that's accurate because in my opinion that stuff will come. They still have three weeks before the regular season him in the hand offs and stuff if he's getting to the point where he's pretty good with that. It's only gonna get better. He's only going to get more confident. I wanna see rothlisburger. Deliver the ball accurately. I want to see the intermediate passes. That's the one thing we as fans have not been given so far. This preseason and that is a quarterback that is going to attack the deep middle intermediate portions of the football field. We've seen dwayne haskins roll out and throw passes leasing d. Pass down the sideline. i mainly. I'm thinking about mason. Rudolph deontay johnson against the eagles. What we haven't seen are those great seem passes. I think it to me. It's one of the byu most pretty throws in all of football. When a quarterback hits tight end down the scene think about eric hebron catching it in stride and just off to the races down the middle. It's a beautiful place to watch and we haven't seen it. I wanna see rothlisberger do that and then obviously also on offense you wanna see receivers catching the ball. That sounds ridiculous and silly yet. We all went through twenty twenty and we know what that's all about on defense. It's a little different defense isn't like offense. There's not too much turnover offense. You have new. Adrian klemm with the offensive line canada's new system. You have nausea harass. You have a whole new offensive line. There's so much turnover on the offense side of the ball. Everyone's attention tends to go there and rightfully so but on the defense a little bit different on the what i want to see is and this is something that jeffrey benedict did. A great job in his podcast. this week. Talking about inside linebackers in this is his podcast on the cutting room floor by the way which you can check that out no audio side. He talked about how a lot of times fans get frustrated when devin bush or maybe joe schober in his first action with team. It looks like the inside. Linebackers are getting hung out to dry and he was the one that i did not realize he watches more than i do that. The pittsburgh steelers when they typically put a line and island. Now this current ross with this current roster minkah. Fitzpatrick is usually behind them. So what does that mean. It means at the inside. Linebacker can say. I've got the underneath coverage. I'm gonna tackle the catch if he gets behind me. Mingka's got it make. Fitzpatrick hasn't played yet. This preseason so when you see robert spelane or devon bush or any other ulysses gilbert the third getting abused in the passing game understand that. That probably won't happen when minka fitzpatrick's out there. I'm not saying makeup fitzpatrick perfect. I'm not saying that he is a a player that can transcend the game but he is that good of a player. Keep that in mind. So i want to see less blown coverage i wanna see the defense come out and be more dominant this. We are first time seeing players. I came hayward tyson a lulu. I wanna see them really impose their will on the opposition the detroit lions are not expected to be a great football team. You want him. You want to see that you want to see them going out there and making them look like they're not going to be a great football team. I don't care if they're going up against backups. Make them look like backups. Be the dominant force that we are expecting from the pittsburgh steelers defense and lastly on special teams. I i wanna see consistency across the board. Chris boswell you're a sam. Slow was released with the cuts from eighty five. I'm starting from ninety eighty five. So we're not going to see any kicker chris boswell i wanna see him make every single one of his kicks unless it's a fifty plus yarder missed extra points. I want to see the putting data..

These are my winners and losers not yours. but let's go over. Let's start with the winners. And i'm recording this early in the morning on friday morning After the game just do the work having recorded late. I really don't like these thursday games. I'm glad this is the last one but here. We are talking about the winners from the twenty four to sixteen victory in the first on. My list is pretty pretty easy. I wanna dwayne haskins twain haskins. Listen to this stat line. Sixteen for twenty to one hundred and sixty one yard. Seven point three average one touchdown no interceptions with a rating of one zero eight point. Three now you be saying sixteen to twenty two one sixty one. It's a ridiculous stat line. He played maybe the tail end of the first quarter the whole second the third and then even into the fourth based on the fact that the steelers had the ball at the end of the third and they wanna let him finish the drive that drive ended up stalling out But he got the steelers in the red zone. They were moving the ball. Well he was finishing drives only one drive that he ran into the red zone. Finished with a field goal. Another touchdown and i tried to explain this in. It's tough it's tough to put into words but if you're someone who watches the steelers you actually watch the games. I mean pre-seasons different not every games on tv if you get sunday ticket from direct tv you're not guaranteed to get every game. If you're able to watch this game you would see. The dwayne haskins just looks comfortable and again. I can't really put into words. I'll do my best. But i can't really put it into words. Exactly what i mean. Dwayne haskins just looks like he is comfortable and mad candidates offense. You can call him captain. Check down whatever you want. He made the throws that he should have made. And he had a misfire early in the game. I think it was second quarter. And i said on twitter that he threw a ball and he scrambled his left rolled out. And he's mobile enough. He's not a running quarterback but he's mobile enough. He gets outside the tackle box. He has a throw against his body. It's difficult throw to make. I understand that. I wasn't the the direction of the throw. The receiver opened by by. Gosh he threw it ninety nine miles an hour when all you had to do is just lob over the linebacker get a first down and move the chains. It almost pass. Everything settled down everything. Slowdown looked good. Making the right reads. He was able to get the defense to jump off. Sides in the free play was his lone touchdown pass. Dwayne haskins looks good. I would love to see it. I'm not calling it. I don't think it's going to happen. I'd love to see on saturday in the steelers. Third preseason game against the detroit lions by the way. Mike tomlin said the ben rothlisberger is going to play. That shouldn't shock anyone. It's the third preseason games what they've always done with ben so they're always going to do with ben ben going to play a little bit and i would love to see dwayne haskins come in next not so much that it's a cut on mason rudolph but more so let's see what haskins can do right actor rothlisberger done. I would assume that they're going to keep the offensive line together for a little bit longer. I wanna see what he can do and keep some of those receivers in there. Let's see him. Throwing passes to deontay. Johnson juju smith schuster. And maybe some others. Not just eric brown being one not just the second tier players. I wanna see it. We'll see if it happens next. He's a third round draft. Pick the steelers if they can turn this guy into something boys at a swing and a miss artie burns swinging minutes. But it's a swing amiss and so for justin lane. I'm sitting here. I'm like if he's just make play man. Just make a play. I don't i don't care for him after what he did on twitter but at the same time. I want to see him succeed. Because he's done equate to the steelers succeeding in he. Did he made a play. You can say that the interception was because jamir jones or the pressure on the court. I don't care we've seen so many defensive acts drop interceptions in the past. I was just happy. Made the place of justin lane makes my winters list another one. I'm gonna put them together. I feel like. I have to put them together. And that would be dan moore junior and kevin dots and now these players did not play with the starters. They were with the second team but man these two guys together. They were road graders. They were mauling. The eagles second-string defensive line and third string didn't matter who they put out there that left side because remember daimler. Juniors left tackle. Kevin datsuns left guard when they were in there together. They could've ran down the lower than the left side of the field. Every single time and it would have been there. It would have been opened. They were gonna make holes and they would have busted off five three to five yards per clip. It would have been a beautiful thing to watch. I get why they didn't but boy were they. Impressive in for kevin johnson. This guy has been drug through the mud his name and no fault of his own. Mind you it comes back to bogus. Reports people that are taking reports and twisting them into their own narratives. Mike tomlin's words being taken the wrong way and kevin dotson did what he should have done..

"Block rate metrics. It kind of really tells you what the steelers offensive line wasn't just wasn't very good. Kevin dots and flashed a little bit as a rookie. I was looking at the charter this morning. Somehow he's only second is on the second team depth chart but think this season. Todd just comes down to matt canada's xs and os and if he can improve an offense that was thirty first in early down success rate that will go a long way but aside from three or four guys on this offense throwing a ton of difference makers. It's always interesting. 'cause you watch the steelers and go down the roster and you go man. This team has a wealth of guys that wider seaver. But there's a reason there wasn't a huge market for juju smith schuster. Nyu elected to come back to pittsburgh on a short term deal. We all have flashes of chase klay pool being this explosive receiver but if you dig in his numbers most of the damage he did was in a handful of games. Deonte johnson actually became the team's most reliable weapon. And i think that flies a bit under the radar and i want to say anything negative about johnson but i don't see him as a true bona fide number one at this point his career. It's a far cry from having another fellow mccallum antonio brown out there so it'll be up to pittsburgh to get those guys involved in a figure out what they can do but for the offense and whatever. We think of big ben in the twilight of his career pain. We know the pittsburgh's dna has always been on the defensive side. But you don't ask anybody this off season. You lose guys like bud. Duprey vince williams. Mike killed and steven nelson who he talked about in previous podcast as well sure you ranked number one in defensive efficiency and the good things. Hey look steelers get. After the quarterback dave led the nfl sacks for four straight seasons. The one hundred thirty six quarterback hits. They've accumulated is the most in the league by any team in a season. Over the last fifteen years as a result of all that you get takeaways your passer rating allowed is tremendous difference makers at all three levels whether it's tj what mak- fitzpatrick cam hayward and stephen to it. But at the same time you can only rely on this defense for so long before you feel that. Hey look there may be a canker to in the armor i agree. I think you are hinting. At what i believe could be true as well and listen. The steelers defense is great. You hit on all the metric. Try like number one in the most efficient defense overall and it was the number one defense in early down Efficiency number one in pass rush win rate second in line yards. I mean the front four was an absolute force to be reckoned with last year. And i think great defense is obviously keep you in games and maybe when you a couple but we just keep coming back to this in twenty twenty one like offense equates to winning at a four x rate compared to defense with how games are played now and it's not just that it's like how do you improve the number. One defense in the league may be metrically. You can make some incremental improvements down down there but as a betting man the the odds are against the steelers defense. Getting better right. They're gonna regress. Maybe a tiny dip but it will regress and you hit on bud. Depre- there was a lot of skepticism early on from steeler fans in that organization but he came on the last couple of years and he's going to be missed. You're going to have to try and recreate a sixteen percent disruption rate from someone else and it's going to be difficult to do. I mean that was top. Five in the nfl. With debris last year you have high smith penciled in there and i think the steelers know that he's not going to be that guy did well in a limited role last year but they were forced to sign thirty two year. Old melvin ingram. This is the second off season where you know. You're looking at a pittsburgh defensive front who couldn't afford to retain a big part of that deal line. Last year it was. J von hargraves. Leaving which really interesting too is when. I'm just going to preface it this way. I am not going to tell anybody that. Tj water is not a very good player. he's excellent and i'm not going to insinuate that he's not going to be. You know one of the best edge rushers in the nfl again. This season but was really interesting. When i dug into this. Because obviously but depre- leafs. But what does that mean for the rest of the defense because he led the league in pass rush. Get off meeting. The quickest guy off the line. Right way tore his acl in week twelve. We saw a drop in tj watts production defenses could focus their attention on what tj went from. Nineteen percent pressure eight when depre- was on the field last season without debris that pressure rate dipped ten percent for t. J. watt so. I'm not saying that he's a bad player. He's actually really good blair. He's an elite edge writing. Mike command the most money in the market when he becomes a free agent the next time but it is interesting when a offense can scheme and make that their focal point to stop because he's gonna get shipped more. You're going to send help that way more. So there has to be a second guy to emerge in that defensive. One pittsburgh does get devon bush back. he's gonna be patrolling the middle of the field. I feel like you might be a little overrated. He's going to have to prove that he's deserving of the tenth overall pick. He hasn't quite lived up to the hype yet again. This will be she's three. He had a respectable rookie. Year only played five games last year. But he was worse across the board and just about every metric the steelers secondaries and injury away from being in big trouble. Joe haden and cameron suttner damn good but hanes thirty two. You mentioned some of the losses. Steven nelson mike hilton. That's going to hurt depth serious questions right now but who's gonna man the slot and we know this day and age. Three wide receiver sets are pretty prevalent and we talked about one team within their own division with the cincinnati. Bengals who lined up three white all the time. The really other important thing here worth mentioning his schedule pittsburgh's dealing with the largest year-over-year increase in scheduled difficulty defensively. Tackle left guard kevin dots and it doesn't look like he's going to play unless he gets back on the field soon Brazil so left guard might be like reshad coward. They'll price swing him over maybe. Bj finney looks like kendrick. Green is gonna continue to run with the ones until he proved. He proves he can't do it right. Guard trae turner. Who was honorable mentioned. Last week on my list. He should be back he should be playing at least a little bit. And then right. Tackle zach banner. This is going to give the fan base a little bit of a better idea as to what the offensive line is going to look like and what they can do. So i'm excited for that last player on offense as a player. I actually listened last week. So i kind of broke my own rule and that's pat youth. He didn't play. So i'm going to put them on there again. I really wanna see pat farm. You can do acetate. I just want to see what he can do. We not j. watt unlikely to play for obvious reasons in case you were asleep at the beginning of the podcast. Go back and listen to the beginning. But melvin ingram. I really feel like he is. He's going to get the reps to get himself situated in pittsburgh. There's not much this guy has to learn he. He probably already grasped the the the scheme he just has to learn the verbiage. He has to know what to say in certain situations hill. Be fine but i want to watch him. I'm excited and then i also defense and this is based solely on the performance last week. Is alex highsmith. I want to see alex. Highsmith do what he did last week. Again tell me show me. Maybe he's proving the he is more than capable of doing just that and so maybe this is the first step for a young player just trying to make a name for himself in the national football league. So you have a completely new offensive line allowed. These guys are aggressive. I don't know about szucs so much. But we know dawson's aggressive. We know green as aggressively now banners. Aggressive right turner. I'm not that sure about. But he's he's a five time pro bowl guard. So you know. Adrian clemes preaching a more aggressive attitude and more aggressive demeanor They're going to be focusing on the run more this year. s- presumably so. I think there's really again to repeat something. I said in the past. There's really no reason. There's no point in in pointing out the lines performance last year As a barometer to how things are going to go this year because we just don't know how this lines to do because it's completely different unit more or less.

Twenty one but rumor surfaced About his his his conditioning during the offseason in the fact that perhaps he hasn't been taking his opportunity seriously. You know he has a great opportunity. I mean the second matt filer left as a free agent in march kevin dodson. I don't even pension. I think he was pending as the new starting left guard for twenty twenty one but according to the day. John ivanka vich. Who's a longtime steelers reporter. Pittsburgh sports reporter i should say including steelers. He's currently the the head of decay. Pittsburgh sports the website according to a source that he says is impeccable within the steelers organization. Somebody is unhappy with kevin datsuns conditioning. And of course that caused uproar at the beginning of the week and actually a lot of people rallied around dots in posted a bunch of videos pictures of him and his his physique and and of him working out and datsuns even his trainer came to his aid and said look. This guy is putting into work and in a lot of people were upset about with dejean local other local reporting for like. I didn't hear anything about this But in my opinion. I'm not saying it's true as far as the conditioning dotson as far as the him not taking it seriously. What i am.

Look i've got some. I need to get out of here. Man i got some vacation plans now. can i do. My interview is virtual. Can i do my interview i can. We do it earlier than anyone else. And i guarantee you. The steelers would have been accommodating to their best defensive player arguably you could some people might say make of hispanics but still. That's neither here nor there all would take is one staff member one staff member to say. Wait a second. Tj watches left. Did he have his exit interview. Goes and tell someone in next thing you know.
