MLB awards: Finalists unveiled for Manager of the Year

"The fact that MLB started doing this naming the three finalists. Am I telling you for the past couple of years, and they've they've announced the finalists for the major awards day towards being handed out next week Monday. Next Monday, is Rookie of the year man to the years next Tuesday. Cy Young is on Wednesday and then m V P, of course, is on Thursday. So to me, the most interesting one is the manager of the year, especially in the American League and usually like man who cares, But I think it's very interesting because The three guys who they've picked in the American League to be the manager of the year. One of them is Kevin Cash, who had a fantastic regular season but has been blasted for one managerial movie made in the World Series, which was taking Blake snout too early. Yeah, he pulled a Dave Roberts. Yeah, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why he would do that, And he's going to say it's the analytics. But if you look at the numbers Blake they're actually the third time through the lineup is better than he is the second time through the lineup. And he was making them look ridiculous. Absolutely. I mean, it was. It was just stupid. How bad they looked any just struck out the top three guys in the orders twice. So that means none of them had made contact Justin Turner. Mookie Betts. Corey Seager had made zero contact, and that's the Yoon said Betts doesn't swing and miss. He makes contact and he was he made. That's look ridiculous. He absolutely didn't know that. But this year better actually hit worse against lefties. Entity is right. But that's beside the point. Yes, so Kevin Cash is one Of the three managers. Charlie Montoya. The Bluejays is another one, which I think is great. And I think it's hilarious that the third manager of the heirs, Rick Renteria, who is no longer manage manager, he was relieved of his job. So we have a guy who made a horrible managerial decision guy who's no longer managing, then you're trying. Montoya.

"How are you tonight, John? I'm fine. Jody Mac. Thanks for taking my call. You got I heard your caller about three or four guys ago. What is your serious radio channel? Oh, you remind the baseball candle A baseball channel. And there might be serious except MLB. Yes, all right. I'll find you haven't done it for him in a while, But I am still get the schedule every single week. It just doesn't show my name on it. Oh, all right. That's OK. Ah, you Then, you know gifts. Um Ah! A drink. Tim Kurkjian. He was just fry and mad when they took Snell out. I mean, Kevin Cat, Kevin Cash basically is right up there with David Cone and Bob Costas with Theeighty eight Dodgers. Chief I Ah, I wanted the best tweets that I got while I was watching World Series The other night was Kevin can should get a Dodger World Series ring, which I thought was actually pretty cute. Ah, I agreed with him and everyone who questioned Kevin can't because it's all about the analytics, and you can't go to a lineup two times. And it's these new standard rules that baseball runs by the Just leaves nothing open to feel or interpretation, and it cost the Tampa Bay Rays a chance at the World Series. Absolutely because after the smell was put hold, I watched the replay over and over again the whole inning and even the chain link fence. Grab the ball. And let the second run score. On the double down the line. Um You know when they pulled now back in the early other other game was 2nd 2nd game. I think it was. It was one enough. And so I got that part. But the gay was what's the term? Filthy getting the ball across the plate. You know, I was so happy I couldn't see straight there was like stunned. You were for the Dodgers. Yeah, because when I grew up in Arizona after I grew up in New York, so spoiled with Giants Yankee Dodgers I mean, you know, it's like it's going to take you seven cubs to get one Yankee Baseball card when you were a little kid, Okay, so out here, you know, it was like then Scully was the voice of the desert. Los Angeles Dodgers win World Series, but also become super spreaders of the virus?

"They won with a powerful lineup. But did they risk turning the world Siri's into a corona virus super spreader into a super spreader event? It Let's let's talk about the good things for a Shall we then Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series first time since 1988 and had been a long time coming in a lot of failed a lot of false starts at the beginning of this decade in terms of winning So many division titles and just sputtering in the playoffs, losing to the infamous Houston Astros in the 2017 world, serious getting beaten by the Red Sox in 2018, and this time they were great. They were fantastic. Even Clayton Kershaw that everyone talked about couldn't get the monkey off of his back. He comes out and wins. Two games in the series, and it was great for them. I think that they they did it the way that great teams are supposed to. They scored more than half of their runs with two outs. Everyone's looking for all that clutch. All those clutch performances and the Dodgers really did come through. They were They were fantastic. Even with the crazy game for 87 collapse that we thought was going to turn the Siri's around in a different direction tied it, too. But at the very At the next turn, The Dodgers come back and they never look back. They are champions, and they very much deserved it. Even though it was an eight game season. It was very much Before playoffs and everything else. Yeah, it's it's a legit championship. But but but but but Justin Turner removed from the game because it was positive for Corona virus. He returned for a celebration often mask lists hugging people. He sat next to Dave Roberts, the manager who is a cancer survivor, and therefore more at risk. How How do you finish that sentence? How do we characterize this? Well, he characterizes as a massive massive Hey, irresponsibility on the part of Justin Turner on the part of the Dodgers and certainly on the part of Major League baseball, even though Major League Baseball has tried to get out in front of this by laying the blame at the feet of Justin Turner, and it is his responsibility. However, I have a hard time believing that that he was allowed to play with an inconclusive test, so they took him off of the field after the test was Was found to be positive. But if you have an inconclusive test, how do you let him play in the first place? And so everyone's going to take responsibility for this, But this is what we're seeing across the board were seeing this at the University of Florida with all of their positive test. We're seeing it with the big 10 as well on the Big 10 had made the decision earlier not to play, and then they got bullied by the president into playing, and now they're canceling games. This is the thing Scott we talked about this months ago. Everyone saw this coming, but this country has just made a decision not to care about it. And, of course, the discussion of the weak. Ah, Kevin Cash, the Tampa manager, pulling Blake smell Blake Snell, Tampa Cy Young Award winning pitcher after he struck out nine after just 5.5 innings because of analytics. Tampa lost with almost the next pitch as this decision become emblematic of these over analysed times. Well, absolutely. But I had a revelation during this world serious guy and I think I've always known it, but it it wasn't crystallized until watching this. I don't watch baseball or I don't watch sports for wins and losses. I watch sports for competition. And this this thing they did not let Blake smell compete. And this happened at a time. When look at who we lost during this baseball season where you've lost the great picture, Whitey Ford, you lost the great competitor, Bob Gibson. And these players, they're legends come from competition, and if you're not going to let a player compete, what is the purpose of being a Cy Young Award winner? You're not even going to be allowed to have these classic championship moments. If they pull you out of the game. This is why we watch in baseball. At least the Tampa Bay Rays took that away from us. Howard Bryant of ESPN Well said, Thanks so much. Thank you.

"Win a normal world series like as it is like, okay great raise Louis but to have it. Coat down the way it did we're Kevin Cash, the guy who who lived and died by the analytical book all year long thought he was smarter than the rest of the planet and to have it all come crumbling down Tom you've been preaching like let's go back to being dinosaurs and I. I don't Know How many people were on your side there but now it seems like, okay, this did not work. We need feel back in the game baseball executives. This isn't working like let's go back to being dinosaurs and it's awesome. Yeah I thought when the Yankees lost the raise there'd be you know nothing could be satisfying and there isn't zinc. Care about. But the raise losing in this fashion is the most. Possibility that could have happened after the Yankees were eliminated. Chemical we said he's such an asshole Untie Res Organization. His. Ball and to their credit they are one of the smartest organization the football I got the in baseball. They got to game six of the world series using this, but you have to have a little feel you have to have. That's what I was saying a little bit of field because like everyone's complained like, oh, well, they did get here with the analyst. It's like dude, just look anyone you could tell. This guy has zero runs. Will One hit? What? One? Hit Nine Strike? Is roaches. Center line strikeouts. Hey, keep him in like it's no more aware annex like let them go if he starts get first and second art Brigham in at least another batter. There are people will say. Joking but there are no an to the defense of analytics. There are no analytics really tasks that supported that move outside of the general third time through the order you can't let a guy phase. Yeah. Everything else you looked at there would have said all right Nick Anderson has era of Seven. He gets running six straight now seventy three postseason games MLB. Record. Yeah LE- Mookie Betts was like the worst hitter in baseball against left to hundred against lefties three twenty against righties right so there was no statistics really that said to take out Blake's L. A. Besides just that mindset of we can't let a guy face the order for third time with that is also big in I know that is so stupid to not realize you can go like what? Gives you a better chance. Blake. Snell a great pitcher, Cy Young Award winner who is dealing against a guy who can't hit lefties or a reliever and remember all relievers are pretty much failed starters like all starters are should be theory better pitchers than relief for sure right. So like to go to a guy who's been getting rocked around and think that he gives you a better chance than blake snow there is there's no logic based on that decision none. And like he he had struck out mookie. Siegel Turner's whatever they wanted to three was he struck them all out six times in six at bats. He had owned them. They asked him in like we were literally like what is Great Keep y love to the dodgers answer. First of all big PAPI he was reacted like he'd never heard of Blake's now was stuff was gross tonight. That like He. was, it was a singer Alan Jara bellinger bellinger's interview just talking to Eran Big Papi he was like, yes Snell. Stuff was like it was gross tonight and big losses minds like wait never heard of called growth that I thought that was a very normal. That's very calling someone and stuff borough saturating. My he's laughing his ass. Jesus but yeah, he's like, yeah, his was gross. We were very happy like we felt like we want we got him out in the six. What we wanted to not was wasn't art decision, but we got him out where we want him to end. Art We one now it's rally and then just fucking went off. That's literally such like a mindset that's like a baseball thing. No one talks about like we got the guy is killing us out a relief. It's like wait now we have four things to get to this guy we can do this and it's almost like they're that means they're kind of scared I. Guess I don't know what that gives you. A gives you confidence fucked singer analytics doesn't show you is like a guy can just not have his stuff an analytics doesn't you'll never that's and that's where the feel of baseball is always better than the analytics like you like Nick, Anderson? I? mean he didn't have a stuff all postseason. Given given up a run in six three posing postseason games entering that now seven and McKee lines, double wild pitch, and it happened so quick. So fast quick it was over like. was like one nothing to one one thing and then she wanted to blow those over. Blake's now. He has. I feel like he has to on trade he he can't look Kevin wasn't like. So dominant this postseason news good like I don't think he was yesterday was the best he's ever pitched I've ever things said the is like I've never seen him I've never seen him like Randy Johnson. I know I was like Holy Shit is not the. Smell the Yankees faced it's not and then you just take them out I like I. tweeted. So you should be able to beat the fuck out of your magic coming out to try and take you I thought he should now like once you single there's nothing you can do legally like he has to come in but like I almost wish melds pulled the Messina. No back in their fucking cross the lines. Cute. I want to give him the ball..

World Series Game 6: Rays decision to pull Blake Snell immediately backfires

"Kevin cash taking up. Blake, Snell in the sixth inning last night with one and one out and a one nothing lead snow had been brilliant to that point no runs no walks nine strikeouts. The move backfired immediately the dodgers got two quick runs off Nick Anderson added another later in the game on a home run by Mookie Betts and won the world series. We'll bond. Can you defend what cash did? No And I don't WanNa hear anybody else tried defended either because some things are just indefensible and this is one of them Tony I I'm offended by what I saw last night just somebody who grew up on baseball whose I love and sport was baseball played baseball pitch and just offensive. So numbers are so important to you Kevin cash that you can't use your eyes which is supposed to be professionally trained and steeled, and you've been benched coach and manager then all these days and you don't know when you need to leave the guy alone you. WanNa, take the game away from the players take the game away from a starting pitcher whose lights out who the other team is. Now, not afraid of going Oh my God is shaking their heads and you don't have the baseball since in you to leave him alone and ride your good fortune to have this guy going this. Well, totally I was in contact via text with a couple of former recent former notable major league baseball players, and they were as startled about this development as I was and I just couldn't. No. There's no defending it. Yeah I'M GONNA. Give it a shot at defending human I'm going to preface it by saying if we don't learn from history, we're always going to be doomed to repeat it Kevin. Cash. Has Seen Blake Snell. He has managed Blake Snell for years. Now he's seen them all year. He hasn't gone through the sixth all year I'm going to read from my notes Ziara in these playoffs in the first four innings where he's been great as one point three, five from then on it's twelve point five, six last week Snell no hit the dodgers for four and two thirds and Then, in rapid order walk homer walk single and cash has seen all of this the last guy up before he gave him, the Hook was the ninth patron, the order, and he hit a rope to center field, and now at this point you've got bets and you've got SEGER coming up for a third time. The mistake isn't Yanking Snell to me the mistake is putting in Anderson Innocence the wrong guy in the regular season he's lights out but in the playoffs is over five and Mike and his last six appearances, he's allowed to run I I I understand that Kevin? Is. An. Easy target and a totally legitimate target. I just think in this case, he had seen Snell all year and the hulk wasn't as bad as what he did home. You're not playing lifetime achievement. You're playing the damn game tonight right? You is your sense of everything. This is your livelihood I don't care what he did last week. This guy has given up one hard hit ball maybe a second heart. It Ball. Alright. So yes, you got what you're saying about bringing a guy in who's been lit up lately I don't WanNa go that far I don't care who he had going warmed up. You have got a guy on the mound that has the other people in the other Doug. If you're a manager the time we know you're watching them to and they are shaking their heads when they walk back to. The dugout he has stymied them. If you're not smart if all you're doing is playing probability Tony, then go work at the win in Vegas I don't WanNa see you near a baseball diamond. So let me go back into this for a second because it's something we'll have to live with if he never wins forever in the way that great little does the way the Darryl bevill does. Making these what appear to be bonehead calls but I would tell you Dave Roberts said the same thing with Clayton Kershaw he let him pitched to two batters in the sixth inning whenever it was and he knew that Ziara after a certain point was bad and he took them out to protect him and to make sure the dodgers won that game I think managers do this I don't. You know I'm not crazy about analytics I don't WanNa take an anti intellectual viewpoint here that I think that certain people it's absurd managers rely too much on numbers and not enough on you but I think the mistake was who he put in not what we took out. One of the guys I was texting with last night we might be said half the front office is in baseball would have done this and it's not just a managers front office last night was bad night for Baseball Tony. You could say baseball's we at five. We know better than somebody even most cases who's twenty five years old. It's a sad night for baseball that a guy pitching a masterpiece. What are you take? You defendant Kevin Casting Colfax or Gibson? That's the kind of performance. This guy was spinning last night and he took them out and it's a sad night. It's a sad night for baseball I don't care how anybody who wants to defend it or painted even Kevin cast I don't care what he has to say.

"Sport Talk Seven Ninety. I'm not sure how in the world you can't make a trade facility going to be closed with the Texans positive test covert in the building they're on a bi week. So you can go in there and sanitize the hell out of it. We'll see what it leads to that. Was Ian rapoport breaking that just recently on twitter Kevin Cash bad mistake to pull blake. Snell it was horrible. Let's get to John John on the northwest side. Yeah Man. That's exactly what I wanted to talk about gene baseball thing. I was thinking I was. I was getting ready to see something really really good to snail maybe bitch masterpiece. Spine and all, but man depriving fans of that last night I I just don't he getting was too quick to pull. Anybody anybody come up in the end. I come back in here blue I mean really to me when it comes down to who is your best pitch on your team the guy that you got been won one cy young why are you taking him out now giving a chance he deserves a chance to to get out of there and I. And Ceasing get along might not say that they would have won the game but taking US nail in. One. We've been saying it all day. John. One hundred percent I thought it was a monumental mistake. Thought that you know that sometimes you gotTa throw what you've been doing all year a computer out. It's post-season different. Your ace is thrown Jim. He's mowing them down. He's not laboring thought it was stupid. It said Wha- all based on panic. Think he panicked and I don't trust Anderson more than I do smell. Like I'm talking about in the postseason. If you watched the last two citizen of John I'm sure you did baseball fan I just when a guy's going that good. You throw out you throw it all the other stuff it was stupid and. You're he did not give his team the best chance on I. Don't know if they'd won the game who knows who knows what happened but I know one thing they diminish their chances even though during the regular season, their bullpen was lights out. This is game six, the world series in your racist kicking ass leave him in period starts the Labor then get him out. Sometimes you've got to trust him and stubbing your toe on one runner. Or having won know it's okay to stumble a second. He wasn't like he was laboring to get through innings. Yeah. Good. Gracious. He'd been going good the whole I'm with. You didn't miss much. There's mistake there's not enough in baseball that. Letting you guys go. Just. For the long term he like Saint early you have to have a guy you have to have guys grow up and doing that requires you to let them go out there and even if it is world series game, go further at times in your maybe completely comfortable with them doing. That's spilt that smell all that situation was that to me I thought it was a bad. I thought it was a bad decision. I just did and I think it cost him I do and I. If you're Blake's now, you don't have to you don't. have to sit back and say I understand my skipper's decision. Now you didn't and he didn't he could tell he was pissed Oh yeah. He should be don't blame. I. Just don't know when we made the transition over the years I've just throwing it completely out that. You know what? Now's the time after seventy three pitches in eastern struck out almost double digits. And he's he's been my ace and he's a former cy young winner that looks like the Blake Stale that won a CY young. And he's he's not anywhere near one hundred pitches. You've got a solid inning to go at least maybe to. Hell and who knows maybe gathers the back the strike strike and thank. Rolls The table and pitch a complete game in game sage. But I. Don't think he. You took out a guy who is not Not Laboring. And he and who was having a A memorable game six world series. Yeah. Absolutely was horrible. This'll be something he lives with forever. Yup, it is teams get a lot of chances to go back say and you'd be grateful you don't hit very thanks to our Rosa you're in that position. Yeah. Without him they would've been in the position bullpen during the regular season they just don't hit and it's not it listen. It Ain't GonNa get any easier one, hundred, sixty, two games scheduled to get back there next now. The Texans we at Ian. Report on he says there's not a lot of buzz about anybody getting moved. Shocking. Shocking but it's wrong is what it is heartening. It's disheartening. That's the best way to put it because you were just hopeful that and when he said that the only likely perceived to be let go or to move is Kenny. It's just like you're not gonNA GET ANYTHING YOU'RE GONNA get sick round pick for him probably if you're lucky probably or conditional fifth maybe like you get a desperate take Cleveland San we'll take him yeah but even then like On player, but he's not he's not A. Franchise chain but would be he's a good guy to have as you have three or four right And he's what? The Fort, the number four here he's a fourth got here. So any solid player, but you're not gonNA that's not. Changing your franchise I mean so. And I'm not sure they have anybody that will if you're not willing, you know you're not part with Watson you're not GonNa Pencil and the next coach. In order to entice him to come here. You gotTa have some players but I would think that he'd want a few assets as well. Yeah you'd think so so. And you know you're GONNA pay will will willfuller. They're already an enormous payroll on the offensive side of the ball. It's GonNa Change. Obviously the whole thing is just At it. There's no reason to believe that they're going to do the right thing. There's they've always given you the evidence they won't. I wonder if there's anyone out there here in the last twenty minutes and obviously tomorrow great thing about doing Monday through Friday you get four hours each day to discuss it I. Wonder. If there's anybody out there who doesn't think we should make any trades. There's anybody I. Wonder if there's fans. Who Love Their Texans who think that this is a good team. Regardless of the roster and that they just need a break here there or need to change, and they're still blaming everything that the results on Sundays on what Bill O'Brien, I understand the core, the team and trade, and all that not having Hopkins but with the guys that are playing. That still think, Yep, the reason we're not winning because Bill Brian Still Bryant's. That the run games not any good and or if you think this personnel here at seven, three, two, one, two, five, seven, ninety. Is is good personnel and you're still optimistic about the players on the team that they're going to turn it around this year. I would imagine that's GonNa fall on deaf ears, but I'm just curious. There's somebody who thinks I can't imagine I mean we had a couple of people that called thought that they were going to be better when bill was out and just that was not coming. We told you it wasn't going to happen and I can't imagine there's anybody that can actually sniff that glue and believe that something great going to happen here. The worst part is also that I was thinking if they're not going to trade fuller, they have to be like, all right. We're going to get rid of everyone else and we'll be all right. You know. They have unless they trade them before the deadline. They owe cobb and cooks twenty million dollars next year. So you're adding fuller's contract to that, which would be around fifteen million dollars. You're paying thirty, five, million dollars for three guys that..

"A short leash 73 pitches. Two hits. In strikeouts. Snow can't believe it, Cash said. Need short memories and thick skin because this is the way we do it back to the top of the order. Anderson comes into the game. I'm the moment Cash moved in the dugout before he even left that dugout. Before he sprinted out to the dugout or from the dugout. You knew exactly what was going to happen, and so did Snell because his reaction shot was a massive expletive. Kevin Cash was not coming out to the bump to talk things over with snow. He was coming to get him out of there. Blake Snell struck out nine. Her he had struck it out. Nine Dodger batters Through five and a third in a must win game. And cash came with the hook. The second he allowed a second base it and not like this guy was labouring. He had thrown 73 pitches to that point. 73 done. Bought. This is to Tampa Bay is this is what Tampa Bay does. This is where Tampa Bay lives. This is why Tampa Bay was even in Game six of the world. Siri's This is their bleeping deal. Kevin Cash came to get Charlie Morning Game seven of the LCS and afterwards, he said, quote third time through we value that we value our process and quote as I said. Nobody values anything like the Rays value their process and it's true. It is what got them there. I'll tell you what else is true. It's what ended their season. You knew they were going to stick to their process, just as you knew that that process was going to crush them. The moment of cash came for Snell. It's almost like he offended the baseball gods by doing that. It's almost like cash in the Rays crossed the line last night like they spit in the face of every dominant ace in a postseason game ever, and it came back to bite them in the ass. I mean, that's go all Boomer on you. But can you imagine cash coming out to the bump to try to take the ball from Bob Gibson in the World Series? Like you know the rules Bob. Third time through the lineup process, Bob process like Bob Gibson would have broke his manager's face before he let him take the ball from him in that moment. I mean, yeah, I understand very different time times changed. The game has changed dramatically. But you know as much as Snell likes and respects cash he wanted, give him the hands and not the ball. Because you do not take out a pitcher who is that dominant in that big of a moment. Sure the process works. Don't get me wrong. However, last night was the night Teo deviate from the process. Of course, they would tell you that the process is a process because you don't deviate from it. Look, you can rant, a cache and the Rays all you want about how computers in analytics are ruining the game. And that there needs to be space for gut instinct. And oh nod and those say they understand exactly what you're saying. But then they'll stick to their process like they always do. They do not want opposing hitters to see their pictures for a third time. Men have made that so clear and they've got the numbers and the computers and the Ivy League nerds to back it all up. Hidden and very obviously does not matter to them. How well their pitcher is doing against those hitters. Because in this case, Snow could not have been doing any better. Nobody could've been best. Seeger Turner, They were combined over six. With six strikeouts. He had struck in them out six times. They had no answers for this guy. They couldn't touch this guy. They had no chance against this guy. And cash says Yeah, I understand why some people might be questioning our process. I totally respect and understand the questions that come with it. Blake gave us every opportunity to win. He was outstanding. They're not easy decisions didn't want mochi or Seger seeing Blake. Ah, third time there was no set plan A cz Muchas people think that sometimes there's no set plan. Sorry. Hold up there holed up there. Skip holed up there. I understand the first part. But come on with that second part. Of course, there was a set plan. That's what a process is a set plan. We know you're set plan. Everybody knows you're set plan. The plan is you don't want your guys seeing your guys or their guys seeing your guys for a third of that. That's your set plan. We know this and if there really is no set plan, and there is, but if there really is no set plan that makes the decision even worse. If there is no set plan, that means you made a horrible decision at least blame that horrible decision on the fact that we have a plan. We work our plan. We plan our work. Otherwise, we're talking about some terrible improvisation. A terrible decision because he didn't just take out Snell. He brought in a right hander to phase bets for the record. Metz has struggled against lefties this year, but he eats up righties. Not only did you bring in that guy to face bets, but you brought in a guy who had given up a run in six straight appearances. Yeah, I know. Nick Anderson wasn't beast in the regular season. But in the postseason, this guy's been meat. No wonder the Dodgers were having a party in the dugout. Kevin Cash made their night Kevin Cash, help them win a ring Bets, admitted as much man. It was kind of like a sigh of relief. Had he stayed in the game. He may have efficiently game. I don't know exactly what would have happened, but he was rolling. And he was saying that he was pitching really, really well, you know, that's that's Valium. Snow that came tonight. So you know, once he came out of the game that just Like a little, just a breath of fresh air. They're not even pretending they're literally saying Oh, yeah, we were happy. Oh, hell, yes, We were happy. We couldn't touch this guy. In other words, the Dodgers were about ready to send cash one of their bottles of Cristal, all hell No amount of bottle of champagne. Having a World Series ring is a thank you gift. Dave Roberts admitted he was happy quote. I was pretty happy because he was dominating us, and we just weren't seeing him. We were all kind of excited that snow was out of the game, end quote. His counterpart has set it for the record. So that process You want to rush the process you want. Tell me that without that process, we're not here. That's fine. That's fine. You gotta be able to deviate from the process.

"Crazy thing to. Donald Hall. The dodgers when. Wade is over the dodgers are the champion twenty twenty. All right. The the irony of this whole thing is dodger's three or four world series. We do we we move on from managers and coaches sometimes way too quick and in some cases takes too long as they'll say here yeah, the football world but you think about this if the dodgers up in this series, lose this series. Dave Roberts make it fired Oh. Yeah. He made some very questionable decisions. The may get fire may get fired in this manner Jim in this game Kevin Cash question cast doubt on his own. Yeah. But Dave Roberts make it fired because you know what you would have thought if you're. Andrew Friedman in the front officer can't get over the top right campus. It's like they'd let go of mattingly because they couldn't get over the top of at least getting right and then they bring this guy he gets I can't win right and you said the frustration of we brought in one of the best players in the world we got everything loaded up. Heck. What's going on here? We've got to find somebody who can with this Talat get through. And yet in the matter of A stupid SNEHA decision by Kevin Cash, clutch hitting at the right time. And really. Clutch pitching last night after the early home run by rose arena ten of 'em. Ridiculous. And he could hit it all over the park at any pitch anytime and adjust was phenomenal. He was literally all it was incredible. Incredible but for them to after that. Early home run by rose arena. To the dodgers pitching to keep even though there bats aren't very good but still to roll and take care to give them a chance. To get a hit get to be A. Tie. Score. And then get bets as insurance home run and give you a little more leeway I assure you to one. Is is a lot were sound than three to one and plus I think eighth inning. They had a runner on first and second with one I. Think we're just one out. Like d time where it's going to be the game-decider no question about it. So Dave Roberts goes from Oh to. As his jobs now secure and he's a world series champion I know it sounds odd you say three world series and four years but unfortunately, it's the culture we live in our can't get through get rid of him. We we do it all the time. It's near a high profile away from the national talking standpoints of the pressure gets crushed him in Los Angeles, they said the reason we can't get through his Dave Roberts somebody goes up there at strikes out three times. That's Dave. Roberts fault. Right but that being said, he finally got them over the Hump in an odd year. And a very difficult year on the baseball world to go through this and manage the cove it unfortunately at the end there Kevin Justin Turner gets pulled out in the second inning, which is going to be something they're going to have to discuss but we talked about caches decision who and he had said that if he had to do it over again, he trust Anderson, you still do it the Arctic. Here's what Mookie Betts himself said. On. SNELL. Being pulled. Out At that point I got a chance Well it. Snows Rolling that day you guys know how it is I mean it's just like you're not really seeing it there. Well, he was mixing it up I. Mean it just he was tough. He was. He was growing on. Nasty tonight. So I got my captain him I. Wasn't asking me questions though I was just like hey. You're manager said you gotta go and then guys coming in and so you know I was I knew at that point you know I try and put back together and. Go from there. Now, you think about this, this is one of the world's best players. Who is with his own naked is sitting in the dugout or when he comes to the plate thinking and when you when a baseball player uses one of these two terms. Nastier filthy you know and he's that good. Now you can be nasty. Do 175 hitter. Everybody's nasty till one five hitter when you're talking to one of the best players on the planet and he's sitting there in the dugout thickened who'll now I got a chance. You know the other guys mowing people down and lights out I mean yeah. You look at the top three of their order and what he did against them last night Snell strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout strikeout. And pull pulled. Yeah. MOOKIE mookie Betts. Now I got a chance. He even going to the to the batter's box. Tonight's our night. We have now he's going to battle him, but we got a game seven. Okay. The way smells going sometimes you just gotTa. Take the L. What Kevin Cash did he decided? Well, let us take the L and go home early I'll make this decision to pull out our our former cy young winner who's pitching like a guy who would win another cy young if this was a way pitched all year long stupid just dumb and when Your Best Player says Wu Oh God I gotTa Shave Style. 'cause 'cause the potent posing pitcher. So nasty it. He's looking at the Guy Coming in Oh, I studied him in the postseason. Willing to give up some runs. Dodgers. World. Series. NFL Blake's more pissed because my career even in his year where he won the CY young they had kid gloves on him all year. You go back and look at his workload. That's one hundred eighty innings. That was one of the biggest talking points with him versus Orlando that you're berliner went out there and had a bleep Tani's compared to him in the numbers were very similar and at some point like this guy is going to be a free agent and I want to be known. As the guy that's going to go out there and be a horse I, want to be the Verleger I wanna be a Sherzer I wanna be all those guys that have the trust of my team to go out there and do it because I had the stuff to do it, and I'd be pissed about that too. Because at some point, take the kid goes on me I'm a twenty seven year old grown ass man stopped treat me like fifteen year old kid this and I want my head wants to explode. And I'm GonNa, tell you why my my head's going gonNA explode with this I'm trying to think as a baseball fan my whole life. When we transitioned from Put your start on the mound. Less key less he is completely getting his ass handed to him. I wouldn't we quit letting guys fight through toughening once in a while even when it's not that tough for stilled runner. Winning alleged. got into it. Is when people that never played the game baseball who don't have a feel for the end the the situation relicensing. When we did it, I'm trying to say I'm looking I'm thinking okay. Sean you up watching seventies baseball younger than when you're a kid and then eighties and then even when you played near him when you were playing little league in high school and you know At a high level and you're thinking okay. High School and then in Major League baseball watching and then you watched certain pitchers and watch Nolan Ryan and in that group and then watch guys grind total one hundred and twenty-five pitches all we'll all the time I know all that okay from from the days of watching Don Sutton Andy Messersmith the Frank Kanana Nolan. Ryan. All the way up to now I get it I've been around a long time and seen but I'm trying to figure out when. I went from. Roger Clemens. Kicking you in the balls if you were to walk out there too. Oh. He's at seventy pitches runners on base seventy three. You know what? Man That print out I saw on the clubhouse. Even though that print out with two hundred hitter should have said something yeah. We've been doing this all year in Iowa, let's do it again I feel like he was with the raise back when madden was there felt like they use the numbers more than anyone. Crew Group I there. There's ways to go hard on. The Astros go hard on analytics for shifting, but they've not gone hard on analytics for that right there at the that like the rays have gone to the extreme they did the opener crap and now they have legit starting staff. They have four stars in he might be the best opening thing. But when you got a CY, young winner who's kicking your ass, you can't open bullpen. Open you can't it. It's really even watch Bruce Bochy just manages way through minor analytics but as a former catcher winning three championships in what five years. Yeah. I.

"Bus have to ask you this Kevin cash he pulls. Yes. Now the bottom of the six. Why why bus let explain to me because the analytics. When he went out to get him, I had text from people around baseball who were like no, this is gone too far. Look there. There are tons of numbers that support the decision you know third time through the order but those are based on things that happened in the past and not what was going on last night, which was at Blake's now was totally dominant and striking out nine of the first eighteen hitters, sixteen swings and misses among those seventy three pitches he threw last. Night and all those numbers didn't necessarily apply to what was in front of Kevin cash last night and Kevin, cash is a terrific manager I respect the fact that Blake Snell after the game told reporters look if you're going to write bad story and this, I'm paraphrasing what he said if you guys are gonNA write bad stories and also right that Kevin cash made a lot of great decisions but there's no doubt about it. You know the sport erupted last night like. Who We kidding here really you know based on what we'd seen. You're not gonNA leave the Guy I can tell you this I. They're probably behind the dugout the dodgers dugout last night. There was a dance party going on when they took Blake snail out of the game and it really was a case where the decision was made on what was on the calculator and not always out in front of the field, and I personally hope that it does kick off a winter of debate about whether or not. This has gone too far because if if you know, we have a situation like this continuing continuing with analytics driving everything. You Know Madison Bumgarner and the greatest postseason ever in two thousand fourteen never would have happened. So many situations in baseball in the past never would have happened if they had simply adhere to the numbers that was awful buster I know you gotta run and get thirty seconds for me really quick. What does this do for skipper Dave Roberts to quiet that noise that's been going on in La over the last couple years. It puts it away for he and for Clayton Kershaw they won the world series and he kept on saying that you WanNa talk about a narrative talk about world series Champ It's what we talked about with John Elway with Peyton manning all these long standing players, superstars, and for Dave Robertson Manager you know putting to bed that whole conversation the dodgers won the world series for first time in thirty two years, and now they can replay highlights that don't involve Kirk Gibson. I don't I don't like the reference eighty, eight, thirty, two's better just sounds beatty. There's no doubt about it Kirk. Gibson did it with the BAT and eighty-eight? You could mention that Clayton Kershaw company did it with the arms in two thousand twenty buster is one of the baseball writers out there another baseball writer Tim Brown. Now, our Yahoo many years working for the Los Angeles Times said in the age of Corona virus we're all looking upward and onward looking for better things in life the dodgers during the period of Kobe looked inward. Themselves in the bubble and it all paid off in a grandiose way buster. Thank you very much. Gets. I look forward to the Yankee spending more on their payroll next season again. Was Up. To two hundred plus million wins out again. But Two oh, five year, right? Did it will we are presented by progressive insurance we should also mention the baseball is heading to a winter of discontent world series. Good lot of fiscal issues on the way Clayton Kershaw one, hundred, seventy, five, regular season wins toe postseason, win sealed it. He saw will. God..

"One of baseball's most legendary franchises has ended their world series drought just hours ago and that's not where I'm going to start actually. The way it goes right with Justin Turner being pulled from the game after a positive Kobe test just take us through everything that you've learned about it in the people that you have spoken to this particular incident happening in the midst of a world series clincher. Yeah and just to be absolutely clear. You know I'm sitting in my home in New York and I'm not down there and so a lot of the information that I have is based on what I've read because people who were there understand what happened with Turner on the field after the game. So according to Major, League baseball sources, they had gotten a a test from yesterday on Turner that was inconclusive and they ran the ran the tests from yesterday. The course of the game and Major League Baseball found out during the game that Turner tested positive. So they informed the dodgers and he was taken off the field taken out of the game and then after the game after you know he'd been told that he was had tested positive. He was down on the field around teammates wasn't wearing a mask and You know he was celebrating with teammates and a lot of them you know were quoted after the game last night that you know they felt like that just an incredibly respected teammate you deserve this more. Than, anybody he'd been with the team for years, he's at the centre of of the fabric of that team but it certainly is going to raise questions that will probably never be fully answered about exactly when baseball found out Did they get him off the field as soon as possible and was more sh should more been done to get him away from teammates it did strike me as being interesting after the game when they showed Fox. So shots celebration that a lot of his teammates wearing masks and that you know after being in a bubble for a long time. that jumped out at me like That's you know all these guys are wearing masks and I think it was probably because they'd got more of the Justin had tested positive but it is You know you're right. That is so two thousand twenty that that ultimately is one of the big takeaways as opposed to the dodgers winning the World Series Clayton Kershaw winning first world series. Buster. When you think about it, you know I guess I would feel SORTA Kinda, the same way as his teammates were, but with that being said. By, Major. League baseball will do something from a suspension of major fine for Turner as well as the dodgers. Next season. I don't think they will and the reason why is because I? You know they they during the course of this whole situation When they started up the, you know the summer camp and then got ready for this truncated sixty game season. We always heard about how well if if players don't follow the protocol, then there's going to be discipline. Dad was never fully defined So there was never a negotiated settlement with the. Players Association key where Major League Baseball and the PA said, okay this is what's going to happen if a player doesn't follow the rules, it's clear that the information got to Justin Turner about what happened and he didn't come off the field. But if you're major league baseball and you you want enforce some kind of discipline on it. Then where ultimately is you know the the absolute bedrock where everyone knew knew what the rules were. Yeah. I think when you look at it though buster it was one of the optics out there. Obviously. It just, but you know, how could you I guess? How could you not celebrate what your team made I know Mookie Betts Rick would you make a monkey bets reaction to Jay tbn out on the field celebrating Yeah and you know this part better than I do 'cause you actually played on a team I I know how respected Justin is and I know that you know among his teammates he's absolutely revered in if they I'm sure when they saw him around them that their feeling is you know what I get it like it just and is someone who's is invested in the teams any player. Here, he's a free agent when the year ends, we doesn't know if he's going to be back the dodgers have been trying to win the world series for years and I'm sure that the players like you know what we'll live.

"Coming up at six forty J I know you were hot on this because you've been talking about Kobe with relation to any sport that we've discussed and the fact that Justin turned the heart and soul of the dodgers thirty five years old been with them. Since two thousand fourteen had to be pulled in out of the game for Corona virus we found out afterwards on the field with his teammates celebrating, we get into all the optics of that including taking the all time picture for posterity sitting between a general manager, Andrew Friedman and Dave Robertson. Up with no mask with everyone defending them except for Friedman. Saying if it happened even though he said two inches from if it happened I guess it was bad for optics. I'll give you rob. Manfred response here in a second because the committee had to come out after something like that happened. But this has been an issue with you since the beginning with any sport well, Y- The painting. Entire picture. So think about when the season I started when you had the defending national had the defending champions playing against the Yankees, right the nationals and want Soto got benched for eight games due to Cova you fast forward to the end of the season to the World Series Justin Turner gets taken out of the game in the eighth comes back and he's celebrating a world series holding the championship. With Cova vid with Cohen. That's the entire picture that's been the roller coaster ride we've had two thousand twenty. You can't make it up man it's just out for me right I. Mean it's an out because of the optics. But it's always a but coming behind that right. But I understand I understand at the year they probably as a team and stuff they We won we're celebrating. Is Over. Now I don't give a damn I mean that's proudly hot over but what? Bought the gay in the world series is kind of like, I'm assuming best way they was thinking because he got off eight he's taking a pitcher with the trophy there I'm like, Oh, at that point I was sleep in. I'm watching sit there next to the skipper to the manager pool his mass now it's like okay now. I don't know how to. How do you explain that probably shouldn't do that jt and I love Jt. But how do you explain it though like? I talked my teammates and they say, cool I don't care what's the what's the excuse for it? Well, it's here what one of his teammates cory seger had to say about it. You know it was kind of a a whirlwind right there in the savage anywhere we found out. That man deserves to be out here if I could trade places with him right now I would he more than anybody in that clubhouse deserves to be celebrating with his team he's been a huge part of this franchise for a long time. And that's what I'm seeing what? What did his teammates say? Right? If his teammates are okay with it then I guess you gotta be okay. Waited I guess. cringing smile though because I don't know I don't know. I don't know if I would be okay with it. It just depends man I'm I'm subjective subject. It just depends I mean I guess I would be okay. Win If we celebrating and we won the championship in I was in the Super Bowl in one of my teammates got yanked in the fourth quarter because he tested positive for covert and he came back out on stage with. US probably be like. I probably would just be like whatever man you know I guess I just think this continues to be an indictment on major league baseball in how they handle this right so he gets they find out that the results in the I think it was the bottom of the second were inconclusive is this accurate zoom and just making sure and then they come back in the eighth and they find out that he's positive and a yank him from the game he's been around his teammates the entire game. Batting practice all the things they go through their rituals who've been around last couple of days. So then you yank him in the eighth, that's going to make the world of a difference. They took him out an eighth because they got the positive. I understand that but they can't leave me me I. I know I'm just saying like how come it takes. How can you have to find out the results in the eighth because it took that time between six innings but don't you put it back I know but don't you don't you see the timing it feels like that's just. I don't know all the nuances of all the timing of the testing and how they figure it out but I'm just saying from the outside looking in it's like man you couldn't find out before the game. There's no other rapid testing that you guys couldn't find this out before the game apparently. Apparently I guess. So two point tear it's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless straight to the Commissioner Rob Manfred because obviously j. when you mentioned something like this let's go right to the top rob was on our show basically just hours before the world series began I don't think he thought he would have to deal with this I. Think they saw they were at the Finish line. But of course, it's twenty twenty this on Justin Turner quote we're glad to be done. He went on to say quote I. DO think it's a great accomplishment for our players to get this season completed but obviously, we're concerned with any of our players test positive. We learned during the game that Justin was positive and immediately isolated him to prevent the spread Andrew Friedman the teams. GM. WHO. The dodgers and essentially was the eat those and building the raise before he joined the dodgers called the situation quote extremely surreal and mentioned there would be key you want to talk about sleeping in stay up all night when you went to sports championship on deck for the dodgers testing and contact tracing this. Oh About laughing. I you're not laughing you laughing, ask the calls what dealing with I get it. Yeah. I look. I say said. If the team like it, I love it. Right if they're okay with it. Because video shot that we're looking at on our. Televisions he's standing next to a young lady and I'm assuming that's probably why something didn't celebrate on the field with his wife. So he celebrated on the field, his wife of like, okay. Well, she doesn't have a basket either so it's like it's over with now. So I'm assuming everybody is just like we want it's over let's deal with a covert situation. We don't have to deal with major league baseball a worry about. Infecting the team. So now we have to postpone games and guys out is over with now. So that point they just like celebrate we all go celebrate now just saying I it's really challenging sometimes when athletes are putting the position of, Hey, what I do is reflective upon how I lead. Right. So all sports is is a microcosm of the country and that's exactly where we are some guys who wear mass weren't wearing masks. Just I. Think. Everybody ought not to get into it. Straight. Talk wireless no contract no compromise I'm not saying this has anything to do with it or condoning it but Friedman did say one other thing about Turner and maybe why he was out there mask Lewis and this is important but not in the grand scheme of things quote for him just being a free agent not knowing exactly how the future is going to play out. I don't think there was anyone that was going to stop him in other words if that's my last moment as the Los Angeles dodgers and I helped us win the World Series Darn I'm going to celebrate any way I want I mean I. "Where's your haircut gone? We know you don't get out as much. You don't drive by irregular sport clips and pop in for that MVP haircut experience that is so much more than a haircut but isn't it worth getting out for the data legendary hot steam towel for your face massaging shampoo that makes you melt into your seat your remember that right? Clips found your haircut. It's right where you left it sport clips it's good to be a guy. G SANTE IN SUBIC? The? PODCAST. Fellas it's a basketball term the JAYBIRD appreciate, but it was a sweet sixteen for the city of Los Angeles. It was a Spanish sixteen days key the Lakers won the championship October eleventh and October Twenty, seven, th two, thousand, twenty, the dodgers seem so long seem seventeen for the Lakers seven for the dodgers what a sweet sixteen to twenty four there you go. That works out new you're doing Zubin. Right. Away. Right. For those that were one step ahead of me like J. he wants to be referencing Kobe. Key. All, the time with the twenty four but they get it done. It's our seventh world series title since moving from Brooklyn in one, thousand, nine, hundred, fifty, seven for some dodger fans it felt like it wasn't it was nine, hundred, fifty seven since they one that last one they get it done controversy lace, which will do throughout the morning but a title is title title title. What do you? What do you say right? I mean, it was a bullpen game for us We did exactly what I envisioned. Game Six, which is get the bullpen going so that they can now just matchup pitcher with batter and that's what we did and it just. It feels good man I feel good for for all those guys an to particularly I, feel for Kershaw in skipper. Dave Roberts I just really do think the Kershaw was dilling pitching especially in the fifth game. That was just a magical moment for him and at that point I, just it was it was destined for the dodgers the win, and then last night having mookie betts be a part of this team and just having the energy that he brings to the table is just unbelievable I mean it's it's almost like. Not necessarily the player. But. Just, his energy, not the bat, not the defense, not the running of the basis just as energy his smile, all the things that will make an energizer team j let me just say one thing about Dave. Roberts fifth year on the job embattled there. Now, three managers to win a world series with the dodgers. Two of them are the hall of fame timeless SORTA and this goes on the way back machine a guy named Walter Allston, two of the most legendary skippers in the history of baseball and a guy that two weeks ago. On. The hot seat is now in company with two of the greatest managers of all time what a difference, six games and five years Dave right? Wasn't he was really on the hoc- was really a was it frustrating, right? It's. It's it's. A combination of both 'cause you had. I've seen it. They didn't get this done. Well Booze you really on the hot seat. was that what they really you know. I guess. So if he if he the lost they predicted. Loud right it was not allowed but the fact of the matter is he didn't lose he did exactly what I'm sure he envisioned to do which was pitch guys awaited he pitched. and Get out of there with a W. Best Team in baseball you long zooming. Let me be classy congratulations to the dodgers. Really happy for Dave Roberts really happy for mookie Betts. Love watching his team play in in a very abnormal year I'm glad something normal came out the best team won the world series. Now, let me be a little bit trashy Oh fort. I despise and Olympics Kevin Cash what did you do? You lost the game at the bottom of the six Blake Snell was playing a tremendous game a tremendous game. He has struck out nine players. He allowed one hey, you had a one old lead. Ravaged talk about it. This morning between bet seaver and Turner were six six strikeouts. Now, I know it's one of the rules in the raise commandments that you don't let a pitcher see a batter for the third time and you go to your bullpen with Nick Anderson. But it retrospectively looking back on this Nick Anderson to a wall pitch, the game got tied the game just got out of hand. Got Out of hand. Yes I understand the raise way. Got Them there. But. If felt like having cast losses ability to read a room to feel the game. Be Yoda put your hand out there used to force. Know that Blake's now was playing a hell of a game you take him out and then you lose the game in this fashion once again, congratulations to the dodgers but if you're, Kevin, casts your waking up saying Damn. What did I do? I didn't feel the game that's where I go. Analytics will get away sometimes but I think when you look at it from Kevin Cash standpoint, his is also got gotten away even though the dodgers may have not been getting hits off a snail in maybe six innings prior he fan nine guys it's fine. But when the ball start to hit the bat and you start hearing the pop in that that tells you things are slowing down for the pitcher because now they're connecting may not be they may not be. Getting it out of the Parker or driving in between the gaps but they're connecting keying at some point. One of those connects is don't go yard mookie Betts struggled. Again's this lefty. So I guess my question is yeah. But when you start when you start hitting the ball and now all of a sudden this. Back Or said. Hotline driving the guy has to make a hell of a catch to get to it. All of those sorts of things start to happen. Now, the manager is looking at the pitching coach and their senator says, okay, things are slowing down. He's not clocking at the same mile per hour right now he's had what is this pitch count all those sort of things because if you keeping near now the chances are he gets rocked oppose the somebody else. So it's Kinda like damned if you do damned if you don't when you get to a certain more, when do you have to trust a game six when you have to put in trust and a guy that is an l. Al.

Los Angeles Erupts As Dodgers Win First World Series Championship In 32 Years

"I WANNA zoom out here now on the dodgers as this franchise because this was their first championship in thirty two years and I was watching Dave Roberts and putting aside all of the Cova. Complications it was hard not to feel something for that guy and it was hard to feel something for this organization N. This fan base and this city. So what did you make of the dodgers finally getting over? This. Particular Hump, you know I think that Dave Roberts has been a guy who at times has been rightly maligned for his decision making but the decision making that will stick with me from this postseason has to do with two pitchers Clayton Kershaw in Julio. Arenas Dave Roberts twenty four hours before he won a world series championship got booed by a crowd that was almost entirely dodger fans at a neutral site stadium. It was a really weird thing. This guy who's got all these supposed demons and October's getting a standing ovation coming off the field. For for people who think he should have stayed in the game it was just a very bizarro situation and you know what I think Dave? Roberts. made the right move there. And people are always going to say process over outcome process over outcome raised died on that mantra and. Dave Roberts lived on it. He ended up going with Julio Arias for the last three innings of the clincher in the S. In the last three innings of the clincher in the world series he had Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen, his two rocks out in the bullpen ready and willing to go and he said now I'm a stick with a kid who's pitching. He stuck with the guy who looked good and that is one thing that Kevin cash did not do. And there's an argument to be made. That they lost the world series because of that. And then you look at Julio. Maria Standing There Austin Barnes catching that call third strike in grabbing the ball with his right hand and stuffing in his back pocket. That's history in his back pocket right there and the celebration that came afterward and all of the madness and weirdness and oddity of two thousand twenty being wrapped up in such a perfect though.

"Change top of the seventh inning. The Rays of 54 lead on the first lead change of the World Series. The Brandon allow home run and Buster the tying run a third. The go ahead, run it second. Pitching change and will Smith coming to the plate? And when the Dodgers scattered will Smith. One thing that jumped out to them was this was a player who always maintained his composure. And we've seen it throughout this postseason driven and 13 runs already. And Dan a great opportunity right here. Absolutely 2nd and 3rd 1 out What game? I mean, both managers just especially Kevin Cash, trying to do everything. He could do to put out the fire right now, and they put it out. And then the next inning, there's another fire in the next inning. There's another fire, and he's already gone through Thompson, Fairbanks, Castillo, Luke and now Nick Anderson, their best reliever during the regular season, But his Buster talked about in singing, talked about not throwing as well in the postseason. He comes in and inherits the 2nd and 3rd 1 out situation up a run. With Will Smith, the batter and Cody Bellenger on deck.

"kevin cash" Discussed on The Short Porch

"With that but like if that's the rationale want to go with. Fine. So Boone gets a game Kevin cash get more than one day Kevin Cash. Threatening hickeys. It basically said, yeah, we got a stable of guys store ninety miles an hour and and you'll call a boon for like. Poor coaching for teaching learning poor baseball. You do such a fucking baby back bitch after that after that game to the media, there's pathetic and. And then yeah and then he threatens the team and he gets. It's crazy to me how? That doesn't add up you want to say Chapman Three Games he appeals it goes down the to can deal with it. I get it. It's a dangerous pitch. It was not intentional Chapman said and people want to also go by this Chapman's reaction to throwing the pitch and they're like, oh, he kept walking towards him to be confrontational. He was walking to get a new ball. I ever seen her oldest Chapman's throw any sort of wild pitch and have any reaction. The guy is pretty much reaction Lewis on the mound no matter what happens unless it's the final out of like a playoff series and he screams that's it usually stares you down were walks up that he'd never. Chaplains at once like wince like Oh my God let one go. That's just not what he does not his. Not His reaction. So don't tell me the like he was trying to be confrontational legacy was not but the boone thing pisses me off and how we used to spend tonight and he did not agree with it of course but he's like I'll take it whatever no point fucking arguing Nisus just you know I'll sit out tonight. We'll be back Thursday and just passed it. But it's just a it's just a mess and I do think I do agree mush with Joe Kelly thing because obviously. But also don't like what crops brought this up and hatred because he's he's his twitter to the most embarrassing pathetic thing. I've ever seen tits tweets and I were literally joke and I think. We'll get into that with why why he tweeted tonight but. He was saying, Joe Kelley gets eight games. Well. If you deem. Arolla Chapman through intentionally, which is why you're suspending him. How does he not get games? So like I'm now now you can see I'm looking at this in a fair way because this is the anti Yankee way to look at it. Chapman should be suspended more games. If you're going to say that he threw intentionally swears three games come from and that's because you're admitting you fucked up with Joe Kelly and you also think that haven't really didn't throw intentionally here but you have to make an example to end everything that's what they did. So basically, this is Manfred and Tony. Clark them just. Ken caught in their own fucking mess. That's pretty much it. This is and I don't know it's just bullshit. Bullshit Bullshit Bullshit the Yankees won the Game Tanaka puts the gem and and Dj hit two homers and Geo had a little league homerun that was awesome to see I. still don't know how he was safe on that play by the way view the ball beaten by like thirty feet but the Yankees got a nice win and it was completely overshadowed by all this bullshit. So Yeah. Yeah. Shocker that like the best week gets overshadowed because of the. I love how much stock in hate the raise now especially a little bitch Kevin cash and him also lying and saying women aren't the Yankees intentionally some seventeen what a crawfish shit I hate. We've said now the RED SOX and it's not the same because like we said the raised don't have fans. They have maybe fans on accident or maybe mets red. SOx. An Astros fans. Disguise themselves as race fans but I genuinely eight this team now, just a bunch. Of whiny babies. Yeah. I. It is new rivalry because. There's nothing better in sports than a good rivalry and the red SOx have not been that this year of course, last year been they've given up and baseball they choose to save money over winning baseball games and all that whatever teach their own. But the tent they raised players and coaches hate the Yankees players and coaches and it's the way back and I love that and I also like Kevin cash the game he said he's threatened the Yankees I'm not like crying about that I'm just saying like you just can't do that. I. Liked that he said that because that is now it didn't work like the immediate results like I thought. It was really gonNA. Be Pulling to bulletin board material, and it might be for the playoffs they might save the obviously but I like, that's fun. All that stuff is like that gets the juices flowing in the blood pumping and all that it makes me hate Kevin cash in the race. That's fun. That's good for baseball. So I'm with this for this join back and forth, and we got a suspension today. He goes maybe I'll take some time tonight and you know. Reflect on my coaching skills whatever, which is kind of a Jeb what Kevin cash him. And then what you said more Kevin cash worries quotes and he's like. We haven't thrown intentionally. It's somebody's in three years, which was just bullshit and and you know obviously Yankee I think statistically thrown at them more but not throw hit them more which not the same thing. But you go back there's the Aaron judge met Injury Situation I don't remember that but. Tommy Lang through at. Forget the raise Hitler's name, but he threw it somebody and then they came back and hit judge in the hip. Now. As the whole thing and the injuries when he? was like what I do is very clearly through directly is such a pitch move and in this role mind thing and the thing, and it's just it goes back and forth it's not just us and like caches like Oh, they started the instigators they always the pot it goes both ways when Paxton W- off the mound a couple of weeks ago at Tropicana. The were tripping him. The whole time that he'd like stopped in his tracks look like what the fuck is saying. I don't know it's just a lot I'm just rambling here I do like the Phil Nevin is constantly chirping them Phil Neville Phil Nevin is the ultimate guide you love to have on your coaching staff and your team, and you hate him when he's on the other side and it's good that we have full and I like that guy?.

"Into what is going on fell's? Just. Sitting on the floor. Yeah. That's. That's what we should. We should honestly all be sitting on the floor for just. This fucking team what they put us through. It's just I can't believe that on getting chirped. From White Sox fans and other fans, and I can't say anything because the Yankees are fucking disgusting it's sterile. I've never thought. I'd have to be in this situation I. Have I have raised fans in my DM's called me a pussy and I can't I'm like, yeah, you know what I am right? There's no way race fans exist I'm convinced everybody that's weeds positively about the raise and like anti-tank is just a red sock or met. Fan Pretending. Nuclear later. who like absolute eat sleep and breathe as baseball's. Coach. I remember one person yes. Okay. The rays are your Daddy. You throw it Brousseau he'll send you to the moon that someone DM that. Race fans exists like come on man no way what goes wrong since life to become a Tampa Bay rays. I don't know because you're if you're from that area your Yankee Fan usually. The New Yorker South. Death it's bizarre but. They're. They got a number right now. Just wanted. Nothing there's no shit. You can back when you're just when you put up a lifeless effort like you did tonight and Monday night Tuesday was kind of the outlier. Get. into all this in a second but I mean. It's just a lifeless. There's four fucking guys they hit. That are competent at the play Fiji Lemay who it's Luke foyt Godsend Luke foy. or Shell is fantastic and clint, frazier everyone else is essentially an automatic out right now more than half of the lineup you cannot rely on any moment pretty much. That's it. I mean Gardner's on that on what happened to Mike Talk Man, but he's I it's bad with him. He looked so like loss at the plate in his mind like I've just he's tickets swings I've never even seen him take before she usually such a smart guy at the plate sums up with him. Course talk don't talk. Is. Not, he is not claimed well at all I today's at bag. Allow People Talking Shit about Gary or like when our show hit that double second third one out you have to have to get a running I. don't care if it's anything he just looked lost up there at that by two. Yeah doing as much as Gardner is right now they're. Doing. The exact same thing. I think he was hitting sixty like a blink of an eye and now he's down to two fifty. No. So bad man it's just as funny. Hey, that will end the bright spot labor should be back this weekend it sounds like. And hopefully, he forgets just men in black flashy thing him. So he forgets what the you know when he actually was playing what he was doing and he just turns into good glacier magic good just shows up that's a spark. That can change things but right now. They did this team right now is symbol will not win a fit. They need to just wake up and become different people tomorrow I. Don't know if it's going to happen but it is bad. It's not funny Garrett Cole will. We should probably start with. Start with the raise the whole debacle with the suspensions and everything. So obviously Tuesday Yankees are finally winning. Baseball. Game. Asserts in the first thing to Nakas, pitching nocco throws it was pretty much intestinal I'm shocked you didn't get any games because it was pretty intentionally through Joey Wendell he reared back and threw ninety five. He never throws ninety five anymore like ninety three tops. And he hits Wendell because they through DJ and they thrown a DJ pretty much all season long. So they want to defend their best player. Of course did you was throwing like me right near his head on a Monday night so? Tanaka Response Hitting Wendell. Wendell. Expected kind of laughs it off as he walks the first base pretty much a squash their yankees take the lead they. They're going to the closing up the Game Chavan got one out to go. Mike Personas at the plate and he gets a fastball one. Oh, one right by tower. Just right by his head obviously a really dangerous pitch that you don't throw it. People's heads on purpose and he wasn't that. Part of it is that this was just not on purpose. If you know rollers Chapman, he throws a hundred and fifty miles an hour when he does that he's effectively wild and sometimes he just does idea where the bulk going he's throwing statistically I think Katie. Sharp out of this more fast outside zone this year that inside there's Oh he's just he let one go. Why would you want I just don't understand this of why people like Oh he definitely through it on purpose the Yankees at the time had lost six in a row to the race. They're all to ruts. Chapman literally blew a save on a two run home run. The previous Friday they've blown saves left and right. Why would you just put the time run at the plate like that? None of it adds up there's no way in my mind is nothing. You can tell me to set a chapman through it might pursue purpose. I'm. Chaplain through a ball. That's really threw a ball like he threw a ball and he got a morbid suspension than any astro for the biggest cheating scandal in modern sports history like through a ball and he got suspended it's like you said you, why would he ever I also don't think like put outside APP see would want to do that is you're up to runs in the night you don't put. Onto the plate. I honestly feel like our oldest Johnson's Katamon is old world I've he's out of the bullpen. You might have even know that they're getting. He's raising the thrown at each other I don't think he'd even come in and do that on purpose. Think each doubt they're doing his thing he comes he's one hundred, five miles per hour and one got away. It was a little inside is inside it got away but to beat suspended three fat is fucking ridiculous. I agree very much. I, don't think he knows what's going on the game like he knows he's called in is like all right? I just think three But. All right. So this is how I broke down. Yes he throws one hundred. I don't believe he threw out Adam, hits those one, hundred and two. He has no fucking idea that ball's going most of the time we there's no throws hard and we liked that only reason why he got suspended fucking Manfred sucks. So bad Joe Kelley thing like, oh, it's someone told me that he did he threw at him I have to give them somewhat of a kind of big suspension. One game would have probably been perfect for if you thought it but to have to three because I fucked up with Joe Kelly. Yeah. I. I'm not completely like the top upset about the suspension because he's going to appeal and it will go down to two games and what will happen is they'll probably Miss Friday when had double header against the the Orioles not the ends of the world this is spent piss off about is how Kevin cash gets the same amount of games as Aaron Boone Aaron Boone to the game doesn't say a word now I understand if you want to say oh when a player gets objected in suspended for throwing intentionally which what they deemed. Than the manager's fault too. Okay. So then only getting paid. Right I'm not saying I'm not.

"His head. Are you kidding me? He's done that all three batters now. And I was noticing Kevin Cash looking the way he was looking there, some barking now. But that's three straight up in in against the Rays hitters. Three straight up and in and buy a roll this Chapman in this city, and by the way, that pitch was 101. And the fact that you're allowed to do it, but nobody else is. So it's 101 Miles an hour, and that one was directly over, is it I mean directly over his head, so that is dangerous. The benches barked at each other. They did clear but no, there were no punches thrown or anything like that. It afterwards, Kevin Cash of the Rays was quite upset. He made no secret of that. I don't blame him for being upset. But the question is, did he take it too far with what he said? To the very end of this sound bite? Let's hear it. It's absolutely ridiculous. It was mishandled by three Yankees, certainly the pitcher on the mound it was handled by the umpires. Poor judgment. Poor coaching. It's just poor, teaching what they're doing and what they're allowing to do. Somebody's got to be accountable. And the last thing I'll say on it is I got a whole damn stable full of guys that go 98 miles an hour period. Okay, so I'm fine right up until the last thing he wants to say about it. He has is well within his rights to be mad. He's well within his rights to be frustrated. He's well within his rights to call out Aaron Boone or oldest Chapman. Whoever he wants to. I'm fine with that. Thea umpires. But that last sentence One more thing, he said. I got a whole stable full of guys who can throw 98. What does he mean by that? That's a threat, right? There's no other way to take that. I'm not projecting that I'm not. There's no way that's being misinterpreted. That's a threat. He's basically saying we Confederate guy's heads too. We're getting into a dangerous area there. 100 1 Mile an hour fastball like Aroldis Chapman through We used the phrase Sometimes someone could've gotten killed. That genuinely could kill somebody. 98 miles an hour. You go head hunting something terrible, genuinely could happen. So what, if anything should be done about the threat? I'm fascinated by that question. The guy always answered. Those questions for me is my buddy Buster Olney, who jumps in for a minute here on the shell. Pennzoil Performance line, Buster. How big a deal should I make, And it's perfectly fine if the answer is none at all. About Kevin Cash, finishing that by saying, I got a whole bunch of guys here who throw 98 miles an hour. The big deal, which is why, when Aaron Boone, the Yankees manager, was asked about it, and Kevin words are repeated back to him. Boney was the bride and taken aback and didn't want to address it because it's so unusual for something like that Be said now. I think I just mentioned Kevin Cash is one of the smartest people in baseball. I know. Andi does feel like this is like watching a nature show right now with the Yankees in the race. Where you get the young lions being the Rays on. You've got the older lion being the Yankees and their bolt your training and trying to show their dominant this year, the Razorbacks absolutely kicking butt. Last night. Our oldest Chapman seem to be trying to take territory back in that regard. And now this is the raise raising up well, but I think you're right where this just went further than what we've seen before. And I think A problem for Kevin Cash moving forward in even if somebody did it unintentionally. Now the question's gonna be free medication and that dangerous place for him Debate. What do you expect tonight as I mentioned tonight will be the last time These teams faced each other in the regular season, and we have this expanded playoff, so it's certainly beyond possible. It's almost likely that they'll play each other again. But that's a whole different conversation. What do you expect to happen tonight? Get a total wild card, And I think we learned that early in the year when Joe Kelly pitched against the Houston Astros, where generally speaking I think word is going to go out, especially after what Kevin's dead. From the umpires. Look, No, No, no funny stuff tonight. Don't do anything, and I think most pictures. That's your instinct anyway. But if you get into a situation where they were, you know, one team has a five run lead. And the race feel like that. They need to send a message back. And the personality of the guy on the mound is like Joe Kelly wasn't shy about something like that. Anything can happen. And it's why Allie's baseball beyond that game. All right, Buster. Thank you very much for a man. I would just called you up here and you jumped in for a quick second. I appreciate it. Thank you. But I find that really interesting. I mean, Baseball has all of these unwritten rules. We talked about that all the time. Sometimes it's funny sometimes is anything but this is one of those cases where it's anything but one of my frustrations. Well, I guess with unwritten rules in general, is that if you don't write them down, no one really seems to always know what they are. Aaron Boone was raised in a clubhouse. He his daycare was a dugout, so no one knows baseball better than Aaron Boone does. And even he sometimes is wondering what's the rule on this supposed to be? So So. So, what is that? What we supposed to think here? And Aroldis Chapman could have really hurt somebody last night. So if the Rays throw it, somebody's back today that's going to be okay. They'll probably get warned that will be Both both benches with Doug absolutely worn and that'll be the end of that. But you start you start throwing 98 Miles an hour. Somebody's head. Now We have a real problem. You have the potential for something terrible to happen. And you have the manager threatening to do it. I suppose he maintains plausible deniability. If Rob Manford recall him and say, What did you mean by? I have a stable full of guys who can throw 98. He doesn't have to incriminate himself. He didn't say the obvious following sentence, which is And I'm going to tell one of them to throw the ball at somebody's head tonight. That's kind of the only way to take it. Though I do wonder if baseball should or shouldn't Do something about this proactively..

The Rays Bullpen Their Way Past Justin Verlander and the Astros

"Start with what happened last night in the trump the raise in the Astros Justin Verlander Future Hall of Famer on the Mound for short rest effectively for the first time in his entire career and you know what he didn't look right from the get-go to Tommy Fam- drives on the left Centerfield this what is hit well it is just over the wall the right of three seventy eight Tommy van has put the razor head one nothing that of course Fleming on ESPN radio he's working with Imboden who was noticing that ver- lander just didn't look right he kept stacking back off the man he was having trouble with the signs you just never looked comfortable the raise continued to rally in the first two Grou- ball left side past the dive into left field Brantley will feel the joy around third there will be no throw joy comes into score d'arno knocks in run to nothing raise joey window into the plate in the bottom of the first pitch is light into right field asking to be a hit and it's GonNa roll all the way to the wall Garcia around Third Hill score here comes Dr no he gets to go sign the relay throw is there and DR no stops turns around and goes back to third yes so they had a three early and if you looked at Justin verlander space after that first inning it was like he got punched in the Chin the Astros going for legacy going another championship this year and they're down in game for trying to avoid a game five and the top of the fourth inning. The Astros rallied your Don Alvarez bonded the gap and what happened after that was amazing breathes out and throws line tried to the Cap right-center on moved here Myrick can't get it it's Short hops the wall glazed camel to bid at third is being way Dallas for the relay here's the throw domino's got it in a perfect relay as heard on WD troy how `bout that play how perfectly they did from Kevin Kerr Meyer to Willie dommage to Travis Dr no you can't do better than that and you could see in the face of Jose altuve after he was called out like are you kidding me with that throw that is a heck of a play that textbook like you learn that growing up and it cannot be executed better than that love with the rated there yeah on Espn Radio Jim Bowdoin was talking about how this series really has been Williams's coming out party that continued in the bottom of the fourth pitch for lander to the plate on Thomas drives one deep at center field that star is getting bigger and brighter it is going on that walk it was a monster home run four nothing lead for the raise and look the story in that game was about Justin verlander future hall of Famer not pitching that l. but the race pitching was outstanding they started with an opener Diego Castio and is the game went along and Kevin cash kept calling on relievers in the when he went to a starter Blake Snell to close out the game is one to pitch is a fastball hit right back up the middle and that's exactly where Wendell is playing he's got it on a backhand he throws the first for the owls and that ends the game we are going to get a game five in Houston

"Gangqi playing good baseball improved that you know, only a half game out of first place. You might not be noticing because you're keeping your eye on the team a head of them, which of course, is the raise. But there is a team behind them. That's not bad. That would be the Boston Red Sox who were losing four to nothing end to one today report Selo gave up four runs in the first inning. He kind of settled down after that pits Sexton two-thirds and gave up just those four runs. All by the way, the Red Sox did a number on. King Felix thereafter, gotta run back in the second. And then eight more in third and a beat the Mariners nine five this afternoon that the Red Sox who started to game in third place with their win last night. They wanna above five hundred for the first time. Now, there are a couple of games, Bob. And they're only a. Scant three and a half games by the Yankees or excuse me three and a half game by the as right now front running raised and three games by the Yankee. You know, it's going to be Yankees Red Sox, right? All policies to the Tampa race who have done a nice job, not only this year, and they're in first place right now. But last year as well above five hundred team payroll to can't come close to matching with the Yankees and red talk to put together the fact that they are competitive almost every year in the division gives a lot of credit today management team and Joel Madden. And since he left Kevin cash both their manages done. Phenomenal jobs. When we get to September. You know, it's going to be Yankees Red Sox, right? The raise be hanging around and maybe in a wildcard mix, but it's going to be the Yankees and the Red Sox, but a division again, it's it is gotten a little slow out of the gate, but with the injuries the Yankees have ad red type injuries, not as many as the. If these two teams get healthy than the I think they're going to run away and hide from the division initiate much like they did last

"So if you're going in October that means that you're also actually came you wanna take two decisions made in all of October and vault those over everything Kevin cash and Bob Melvin did over the season that. This is I want to value everything on the whole. Well, let's do that and up until the point where Bob Melvin teen and Kevin gashes team didn't get to play anymore. They were all on the same level playing field in terms of decision making or button pushing if you will the separating factor for you and your head was at Alex cores team was still playing baseball, and he was still managing baseball games. Deep into and ultimately the final baseball game of the season. And what went on in those series for you, definitely justifies solidifies your argument for Alex Cora in your mind as manager of the year. But the reasons bias is overwhelming your perspective instead of Jimmy, you perspective. Which is you know, what? That's right. The World Series is one by the players and for a team like the Oakland A's too. Be were they were at the end of the season. Sure, it's going to take the players producing. But when you look at who the fuck and players were how many of them it of it required and putting them in certain positions. What it took to get them there? And manipulating all of those roster. Moves there's a guy involved in that. And that's Bob mill that's the manager of the baseball team. And here's here's the real years. What it really boils down to write forty million dollars. No hold on. Hold on it. God were arguing the cement or maybe not arguing we're debating the semantics of the award and the structural procedures for this award because in reality. Both of these guys are like historically, excellent candidates for the award and either person winning would have been like you can't you cannot manufacture outrage about Bob Melvin or Alex core winning this award period. You just can't. This. Let's put it like this jerk. All right. I give you the first laptop ever invented ever brought to market. I give you that laptop. All right. I get the world's fastest laptop internet all the capability wordprocessor automatic fucking will like spell check all the shit. Right. And we have to write and at the end of it, all you get the Pulitzer. But I was kinda right there. It's like, you know, what do we have any fucking clue would corrobos had to do to hit deadline..

I mean, there wasn't there wasn't one award where we picked all different candidates. I thought for sure that was going to be the one. Yeah. That would it's good balance by us between you know, maybe trying to play devil's advocate, but actually doing this is it's not a hot take podcast. It's hard hitting hot notes right podcast, unbiased, national podcasters. Yes. Really? Well, if you disagree with anything that we said have vote in the polls. Yeah, we're gonna have all that on starting nine social media exercise your right to be heard. That's right. That's right. I personally did not vote in this previous election, but we will will will print up. Some I voted stickers for people that vote for for these awards on the starting nine social, and you know, what? Rounds crew, but your ear to the street. Do some homework figure out who your young prospects are for your favourite ballclub because corrobos an I o be rolling out to Arizona. The Arizona fall league ahead out there, a little homework and corrobos as you know, your Boston Red Sox and might Oakland as actually part of the same squad. The Mesa solar SOX loud. So team. All we're doing. You know, what happens when you roll with Dow? That's why I'm actually worried about about the winter meetings in Vegas of us thinking about that today. Go up went for a little coffee walk this morning and talking about like off season plans with Casey Smith, and I was like I'm going to Vegas with Dallas. Brayden. And then it didn't hit me until the words came out of my mouth how bad of an idea that is. I I'm like, oh, yeah. Baseball trip. Go hang around like a lobby somewhere as like. Oh faulk. Wait, I'm going to loss Vegas with Dallas. Brayden high year Jeter shit gotta be a good one. So maybe maybe what are your favorite upcoming prospects is somebody that we are going to be near that. You'd like us to talk to whatever the case may be. We really have no idea. What's going to go down? We're trying to put this shit together. Like fly of flat junior though. It's like, right. He doesn't speak English. Very well. And when he was in what was it Manchester Nashua? It's one of those two whatever when he was in AA. I guess like when we try to get an interview thin. Well, he doesn't speak English and ball, blah. But PMT did an interview with Bartels Cologne, and they use a translator, which was Gonzales. I would love to interview Vlad with the translator. I'll take that all day. That's what we're going to be trying to do. That's what we've got to get out there. That's the thing is we've got to get out there boots on the ground. So that's what we're gonna try to do. We want to bring you more baseball content during the offseason. So it's everything from the Zona folly to the Caribbean series that we've talked about everywhere in between. Obviously, you got the GM meetings right now in Carlsbad that's a little low key nothing like the winter meetings. The kick up December ninth through the thirteenth so look for their the coverage there. But again what we talking before. Then so ground screw ear to the street. Let us know you got some questions that need answered you got some insight that you want to you want to gather be hip to let us know, you do work for aspect interview requests. That's right. Like, oh, this guy my guys at the Arizona fall. League Mancha hit up player X. Yup. Let them know hit them up. Let them know that we're coming. Let them know that you would love for them to sit down and talk with us. So we are here for you. We're here to rake your lawn. It's the off-season. That's right. That's right on behalf. A j Dallas thanks for listening. Thanks for a great season. But it's not over yet. We're going to keep rolling through the off season. With more baseball coverage from the best in the game and Dallas Brayden thanks for listening. We'll see next week. Dick.
