"Why not take a risk on a guy. Like robbery and he fits. The blue jays needs exactly. You know they need starters. He's a starter or at least he can be a starter. And we've learned from Public media comments that he will be a starter next year with the blue jays. So you know he fills out there rotation and i think overall it's a good deal because of that he fills out what the blue jays need. And you know they're still other question marks in the rotation weather pearson sticks in the rotation. There's some people Like jeff blair and kevin barker they're advocating for pearson to start the season in aaa. There's some people saying nope gotta start him in the majors. And personally i think i'm on the triple side aaa side of things. I know you guys might disagree with me on that. But you know you got robbie ray ross stripling is going to be in that equation as well. You know maybe ryan baraki even comes back to the rotation. Maybe you have resigning guys matchmaker through so many different questions when it comes to the rotation but i think going out and re signing robbie ray literally the first free agent signing of the entire offseason. I think maybe it is getting a little ahead of themselves from blue jays. But i think it nails down one of their key question marks for this offseason and overall. I think it's a good deal Now we know the blue jays are going to be very aggressive. And this showed it that. The blue jays re-signing robbie ray and spending extra money to get him so quickly showed the blue jays aggressiveness. This offseason but as we turn to talking about other guys at the blue jays are looking towards like springer. Jackie bradley jr. jayco taurasi francisco door andrew hilton simmons. The names go on and on that we've seen the blue jays involved with this offseason. I just wanna play a clip from ross atkins on mlb network radio talking about the plan for this off season. How aggressive jays plan to be this offseason..

"So parker's back bigger and better than ever wearing flops in the New York Times. I just it's very directional choice on his part would scum skis Australia. And I don't know I've never heard of that continent or country or any of anything related to them. As far as I know it just stops at dance. Monkey molesting I know about the JP US spent first of all your piece on Tim. Bala came out a while ago and also your reporting for that piece was a while before that torture at artists right. We was also perfectly planned because I was going to go interview him in November while he was working in watch him make something with his November twenty. Twenty eight eighteen clarity back in the back in the Jurassic era. Yes and then he was going to put out the album because of course it was coming out in four months after and then he was. GonNa go headline Coachella sure perfect. You Know Nice music business. Timing area my creative choices around. My coachella plans accepted. The album wasn't ready for him. He wasn't done by the time he played coachella. Six days long did listen. I'm still listening to a set contract. I've been listening. It's last Wednesday salons in my mind anyway so anyway so it was like a very classic. I thought as someone who's interviewed a bunch of people like far in advance of their records like there is a sort of wake to squeeze the songs out. It's so hard like there. Is this kind of particular approach to creativity that he's I have to be locked in a room this by my stat. That seems to be in line with that. I think he played me ten tracks year and a half ago and what percent of those actually made all of them pretty much of the album. I mean okay. Some more finished another seat. He had is mental tracks for some. He had choruses and concepts for others. Borderline was pretty much done okay. But I don't know if the ten thousand extra layers of multi-track synthesizers are all in the version that he played me fair but it sounded pretty similar. The melody was there. The idea was there. I mean the other one who was pretty much done. It seems it might be time. And then a lot of the instrumental tracks for the others and he was talking about Stevie wonder he was talking about. Michael Jackson He was pretty clear on who he was finding in what was coming out. Do you guys hear that scope of ambition in the saw it coming into it as someone that maybe it's not totally sold on the VIBE. I maybe don't hear that complete reference frame ambition. But if you guys here and it could be either if you hear in. What ways do you think it's materialized in the songs I mean? I don't think I hear like Quincy level. Mj masterpiece type of thing going on. But and I don't think it's like near the level of shine or just like perfect pop hit Ted. I think of when I think of Mj. But like I don't know I I get a little bit of the Stevie five I in terms of like energy scope like ambition playing really caring about the technical level of playing and how it sounds and stuff like that. I don't know that I mean I think stevie wonder is like a genius of Economic Kevin Barker is a genus of music. I I get his music and I enjoy it a lot but yeah I don't think he's on that quite that level put and then I'll second. We all came. That's why Delphi side. But if you listen to lost in yesterday that's got a big crunchy. Stevie wonder synthesizer feel and let us remember that. Stevie wonder sits in a room alone and makes music to There's some kind of connection of the lone person and hearing all these interstitial things. We you know we went down in the basement and he sort of made a piece of music while I watched and it was crazy fascinating to watch. Here's a baseline here's cords on top of it. Wait a minute. I don't like those cordless to a completely different chord sequence that fits perfectly on top of the same baseline. Let's do a melody that takes a weird turn that you don't expect. And he's doing this in like ten seconds swerves between ideas It's just like pouring out of him and why it pours out of him. Yeah when it pours used that that bid on the album but he could do it and it was. He was in the flow as they say in Silicon Valley. He was enjoying himself. Anybody wants a manager stock portfolio for me please. I don't have any clue week for that. Can We talk about sort of Tame Impala in like the larger framework of both pop and rock music because he does feel that he's doing something that I don't WanNa say is completely original in the history of Pop music but in terms of what is happening now in those spaces? He seems to be occupying kind of a singular is that fair to say and if so why is it kind of gotten so much traction I think he is occupying a really interesting space. I'm always really interested in people that come out of Indie rock and are trying to both be still be like a musical innovator and make the album they wanna make but also participate in the deeply commercial parts of pop music and so I think he's interesting because he is not sacrificed what he's doing with his own music and tried to have a whole mainstream pop career with Tame Impala but he is fully. You know this stuff with Ronson and the people that Mark. Ronson has gotten him involved with just the level of of stuff he's doing. I mean when you're on yea or you're on Astra world or whatever like that is really a big deal is very loved by rappers he really is and I feel like it's like I kind of said this view but I feel like it's in part because he can write these guitar parts and things that like sound like samples but it is someone new always making Matt Gaetz obviously a lot. Easier to clear they can kind of customize a you know and I I get that I think it was travis that said like I need that guitar tone or whatever like when he wanted to work with him and I think he is occupying an interesting space and bringing some of his sound to music. That maybe wouldn't quite have that slant on it and your sample idea in the review was was great because it's it's why rappers like him they can dig into crates by opening up. Kevin Parker said. Do you think for on the level of texture like the the sonic quality of what he does. If that arrived from outer space not connected to Damon baller Kevin Barker. Where would you slot it? I feel like we accept the existence of Tame Impala now but I feel like you have another band just a rise took resentful just arrived out of nowhere. I think people wouldn't quite know what to do with it. Like tiny flavors of new age psychedelic all. These things are woefully out of fashion right now except new age. Maybe like two three years ago but anyway point too you know you got the point. Yeah so like where would we put this sound and I still feel like I wanna know like what is it about him? That's so triggering. Well I the thing he said in your piece. Jp that was like. I'm looking for something. I'm looking forward to people trying to parse like where what decade the stuff from and I think it really varies from song to song or even pieces of the song was part of a longer position. Because I I used the. Don't use this word word. I said talked about being psychedelic but the thing about psychedelics is not that I've had my experience with. Hallucinogens is limited to like one hand maybe But the thing is it's about this orientation. The ground falls away. You don't know what's up and down and the first album. Inter Speaker is psychedelic rock from the sixties but then the next albums are about temporal disorientation. It's like what era is this from. this goes with this. I can use seventy supertramp piano and I can use house. Music beats and I can use psychedelic buzzed guitar. It's where am I historically? Where am I? Stylistically it's outside the box which links him to hip hop which doesn't really care what you're a as long as leash. Listen to something from maybe from loaner ISM. That's my favorite of the team. In Bala records is their song that you guys particularly think is representative of this. I just love elephant all right elephant from liberalism.

"Of a one hundred year old building in the building of a brand new edition bringing those two together was the job of our next guest. Jeff sweeter, welcome. Jess. Thank you. Now, you've done a lot of building an arrogance and area. And then we have a lot of summer houses here that we're probably never. Tended to be year round residences in here, we are heating systems in them and air conditioning and insulation in trying to make it all work in this case, you had even tougher job because you had to make this net zero. So that it basically essentially made all the energy that it needed now to do that you need to rely on a lot of systems one of which was the installation. So talk to me about the installation that made it possible here. You know, as you said this was a summer cottage designed. You know in the nineteen twenties or so where you had some structural framing members that were only geared to support the roof load itself right now today's standards with the installation in the energy codes. We've gotta make room for insulation. I'd say it's not deep enough. So we had to do a combination of insulate from the inside with super high efficient stuff like closed cell spray foam, right, then we also had to insulate on the exterior building. So we added to the outside just as much as we add it to the inside because we didn't have all the room on the inside. Right. The advantage to to adding to the outside is that you create that thermal barrier around the the framing members which are much more conductive transfer heat loss out so that was a critical part of this project. So the inside the finished side, I tend to chance to walk through the house earlier, just amazing carpentry in this job, you guys that are really terrific. Work here with all of the detail in the trims and the ceilings and stuff. Well, I give credit to the architect on powers who really just thought about every space in the house and took advantage of is expert TS in the design world. And and really created a masterful depiction of of what a cottage built in. You know, cozy atmosphere would be. And all we did was follow his lead in execute. But I give credit to him. He t took advantage of every single corner in the house sounds good partnership. An unusual you to have the architect is the homeowner. You're tuned his wife as the designer. Yeah. Well, it was it was really a little bit intimidating to start with because my, you know, held to a little bit of a higher standard stepped up to it. It really turned out to be a really mutual relationship. You know, we collaborate a lot of things Don wasn't. So, you know, I'll mealtime earth thirty, you know, right? We were able to exchange ideas, and they were right down the road. So it eliminated a third party in the middle. So it really really did work out. Well, but as you say communication really is key. Now, the exterior of this home had a lot of work done, the landscape, a landscape architect, helping with that. But you had to organize that part of the construction as well, what was the challenge? Well, the challenge was. It was a short period of time where we had to make a lot of things happen, and we had three different porches which. Cascaded down into the hearts scape. And then we had a really extensive landscape plan. You know, it caught me by a little bit by surprise. But when they started bringing the trees, and the plants in I was amazed at how many plant things we ended up having and the the landscape architect, Tom Ryan did just wonderful job at segmenting different areas around the yard, which are all meaningful and well-planned in you know, it it it came together. We can't wait to see it roll out. Jeff Weiner, the builder on this project. Thanks so much for stopping by the money pit as my pleasure. You can follow along with all the progress here in Jamestown online at this old house dot com or on Twitter and Facebook, hashtag h Jamestown. Well, the team this'll house didn't get all the work done here themselves. They had help in the form of two apprentices selected after a nationwide. Search Mary Smith from Tupelo Mississippi and Kevin Baker right here in Rhode Island. Welcome Marion, Kevin thank you. So this is a pretty interesting opportunity for you guys to kinda step rate in here to the this old house school of remodeling, and and help out on a really exciting project. How did you get picked Mary let's start with you. I submitted a video online and gathered some references, and I showed them some work that I had done on my own house. His most in my experience prior to this has been DIY. And I see that was because you bought a house and it needed some works. You you figured out how to do it. And that's where you got started. Right. Right. Right. So in nineteen sixties ranch in learned room by room. That's very cool. And Kevin you've been in the construction trade here for a little while in Rhode Island kind of projects. Did you do mostly renovations additions company? I love that you describe yourself and your audition tape as the quote balance, a perfect efficiency and quality of says, this guy's got confidence. That was a good description was a good description. Did you get that from the Marine Corps, the balance of fishing equality? Yeah. Something I'd probably picked up some good traits in the Marine Corps and help out was what kinds of experience did you gather working here on this project? I get thrown into a lot of different projects that I have ever touched before like doing the western red cedar roof, I writing for I've never weaved orig- cap before that was a new experience for me, the whole insulation layers insulation and zipped panels for this house or something that I had never touched before. So there are a few different new experiences. And Mary you grew up in lumber yards. I understand your your grandfather were were in the lumber business. Yeah. So my grandfather and father were lumber brokers. So so very at home in that environment when you were working on your own house. What kinds of projects were you tackling into network translate to some of the stuff that you saw here. Yeah. So we did a bathroom renovation in my own house, and I did a fireplace. In built in in my living room and just a lot this carpentry skills as able to carry with me here, and you also the cake business. I heard. Dead. You still bacon? Yeah. Actually, brought some cookies. All right. That's the way to get to the to the to the cruise for sure. Yeah. Now. Kevin I understand that you have an assistant. That follows you around your dog. Sophie, I do. She's best worksite dog never seen. So she she's been coming with me more or less after I got done filming when I stayed with sweeter. She's been back at the job site day in and day out. Now, you guys you answered the call for apprentices, you know, to kind of get on here on the site and get these these are for you. There were probably hundreds at least of those tapes that came in. What was it like to get the call or the Email was that moment like for you guys? Once you start down took a minute for it to sink in. I actually thought that I didn't get it. Because the the contacted us about a week after when they told us they were gonna go. Right. And then Sarah called me and told me that we got it. And I was kind of kind of taken back by. Well, good good experience and road that high for a couple of months, and Mary thirty seconds. What was it like for you? Cried a little. Cereal. Never imagined. It right. Well, you're representing a lot of young people that are interested in the building trades. And I know that you've been a great example for those inspired those that are thinking about getting into this themselves. So thanks for your efforts. I'm really happy with you guys. And now you guys have degree from this university to brag about great experience. Aright Mary Smith. Kevin Barker thank you so much for stopping by the money pit. Thank you. This is the money pit home improvement show. Broadcasting today from the beautiful coastal community of Jamestown Rhode Island. And it's where the team at this old house has transformed a one hundred year old summer house into a year round beauty that defines energy efficiency. And I say that because this is now a net.
