So there's a raise danneal to get the coldest thing possible so that he can snap into the both Einstein stayed of matter Kanzi. And so they figured out how to do magnetic evaporation to do that. What does that mean? Well, what that means is you how bunch of atoms and you want to get colder how do you do that? Well, one way is to actually make all the atoms each individually slowdown. Another way is to just sort of like take its kinetic energy. Yeah. Because remember temperature is basically kinetic energy the fast and these things are moving the. Hotter the gas is the other way to do. It is to start with a large sample and then just pick out the slower moving ones like boil off hot parts and selectively pick out the slow ones. Then you end up with something which is on average colder than what you started, right that's kind of what happens to a glass of water when you leave it out, right? Like it's actually a little bit cooler than ambient temperature. Although hot water adams fly off your I think that's true. Sort of like you know, say you had a glass of ice water and you wanted a colder a wanting you do is put in the freezer. All down the other thing is you could fish the ice out of it be like Oh look now have ice right US leave the hot parts behind. So magnetic evaporation sort of works like that says, let's just pick out the coldest bits. So start with more than you need right and has a distribution. Some are hot summer cold and You pick out the cold bits. Where they do it is they put it in a magnetic bowl. So they put it in a bowl so that you need to have enough energy to get out of the bowl and you just let it sit there for a little while and the hot ones will get over the lip of the bowl and the cold ones will get stuck in the bottom and eventually you. Left with only the cold one, gradually lower the sides of the ball, and so they can tune the temperature that they get. Cool. So that's one way is cool sample, and then you also said the use lasers. Yeah. The use lasers and this is sort of mind blowing because you imagine if you're gonNA. Cool. Something down you probably shouldn't shoot it with high energy lasers, right This is really counterintuitive I. Don't know how anybody came up with this idea. The way it works is that you shoot a laser at these atoms and you shoot laser them at just above the energy that they liked to absorb. Remember Adams Kansas absorb any photon they have to absorb photons of certain energies to have this spectrum that they can jump up and down to. So they need a photon that has exactly the right gap between the energy level they're at and the. One they can go to. So if you shine on energy laser through gas, probably won't even absorb anything you have to sort of tune the laser to where the gas likes to drink. It's like but that make it absorb then the light where does that make it give off energy? So what they do is they tune the laser to just above where it likes to absorb the light and what this means is that Adams moving towards the laser will see the laser. Shifted, it will change the wavelength of light to be the one that they liked to absorb. So attitude towards the laser will preferentially absorb this laser light, which will slow them down because they're moving towards the laser. So you pick the ones that are moving towards the light and you give them a push, and that basically slows them down a little and then the opposite happens for the Adams going the other way. Yes, and so what you do is you shoot laser beams at this thing slightly above the wavelength that they should absorb and that preferentially slows down the atoms moving away from the center of the blog it's like a quantum hack. It's really cool. It's mind blowing and you know they do absorb this and then they give off the light and so they slow back down at the end up going in a different direction as you've taken a particle which was shooting towards the laser in you've modified its angle little bit and that in effect slows it down because the overall magnitude with philosophy is now smaller. I see of like a wall that's lows an atom down but only in one direction. Yeah. It's like you've got a bunch of sheep and you've got a dog on each side and it's like finding the single sheet that are running away from the herd and sort of like turning around and pushing the back in an giang sheep come together and make a Bose Einstein Khanjian. Sheep. At such a bad joke. All. Right. So the race was on to be the coolest visist on the planet to get goes Einstein cons going and we were at mit and then somebody discovered these techniques. Yes. The Dan Kloekner was doing it as hydrogen with MIT SORTA hit a wall, and then his students went out to nist into UC boulder and they started a lab out there. These are Cornell Wyman. I believe it's Cu Boulder. and. He's the one in salt. The whole campuses people thank you I'm biased at the University of California something of UC and they had an idea to try heavier atoms instead of using hydrogen which had certain interaction between them. That made it hard for them to stay in the magnetic trap they said, well, let's use medium or medium is still a bose on, but it's a little heavier. So people hadn't tried these heavier alkali atoms before and so they made a better magnetic trap and that this cool idea to use really cheap lasers. Other. Folks were trying to get their lasers to work combined like one hundred and fifty thousand dollar laser systems But you know this is the era when you could buy like a laser for two dollars because they were in CD players right? Indeed. Gay Readers laser pointers. Yeah. Laser pointer. So laser become really cheap and they figured out a way to us really cheap lasers in the combine them in this cool way to make. It very flexible but very powerful. So sort of like this experimental cleverness and they were the first ones to do it. They combine this magnetic evaporation with his laser cooling and it was in nineteen, ninety five. They were able to get this thing down to one hundred and seventy, nine Kelvin, and they actually saw this booze is Dan condensate in narrative device Oh. What did it look like? Does it look like a blog? Yeah it. Looks like a blog. He actually theater is too small. You can actually see it looks like a blob it's like millimeters across it lasted for about fifteen seconds. It had like two thousand atoms in it, and what happens is getting colder and colder and colder, and each atom is sort of doing his own thing and we have a bunch of Adams doing their own thing. You could like distribution summer little faster some a little slower. All of a sudden when they crossed this threshold is temperature threshold. They all snapped into place and we're all doing the same thing like all had the same velocity and there were in the same place and they acted like one mega particle and you can see this in their paper they show like is the blah. Blah. Boom is a spike in the middle and that's a phase transition. That's when matters like doing something really different clicks. Clicks. Yeah. The of tragic thing is you can see it but the only way to see it is to shine a laser at it or these really small, really cold Kansas, like see with your naked eye. So they had to shine a laser at which destroys it. So they can prove that it's there but only by destroying him in that way, only last fifteen seconds because you're trying to look at it the same time or what's the time limit here? Time is just how long they can keep this thing cold and trapped eventually, the atoms will fall out of their trap and the way they made. Their magnetic bull has a bit of a hole in the bottom had some new struggling with that a little bit and so it's hard for them to get a lot of atoms in there and for it to last a long time to legal a bit of a leaky bowl. But Hey, they were the first ones to do it because at mit there was a follow blab allow led by Wolfgang Ketley that was sort of inheriting with Kloekner had done and also trying.

"My father is glorified that you bear much fruit, and so proved to be my disciples, as the father has loved me, so have I loved you. You abide in my love. If You keep my commandments, you will abide in my love. Justice I have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love. The is things I have spoken to you that my joy, maybe in you, and that your joy maybe fall. This is the heart of Jesus Arrest. He wants us to abide in him. He wants us to. To bear fruit through him. He wants us to glorify God through a life of abiding, and he wants us to find joy in him. Yeah, I just love that so much and I love what you said that this is like Jesus tender heart toward us, and it's freeing, and you know for our listeners. Kristen actually wrote a study on the entire book of John. John, that just released. We will link that in our show notes, and so like she said today we're just exploring. One of the seven I am statements, so you know, be sure to check that book out and check out the other I am statements because they're just so rich and will actually be working through that study as a community online starting on July. July, sixteenth so I'll link our community on our show notes, and so we would love to have you there, but yeah I'm just so glad that you read that passage from John Fifteen and it's one of my favorite passages in the Bible and it was really formative for me because it really confronted the False Gospel that I operated under for so long in. In my youth because I just grew up in church that leaned more toward legalism and I think my personality just tends to find comfort in rules I'm a role follower and you know I. Thought that being a Christian Matt pulling up my bootstraps, and just doing whatever I could do to look outwardly righteous but like you said Kristen Julius teaches us that. His design for US people is to live a life of abiding and the biblical meaning of biting is just really essentially having a proper understanding of the Gospel itself rate like you said it's living in light of what Christ has done, not on what we do, it's not trying harder or doing better by our own strength, but trusting what crisis done and trusting in the spirit who sanctifies us, and enables us to hold fast decrease and I. Love what you said. It's living dependent on. On him moment by moment, and believing that he is enough, and I think the metaphor that we see in John Fifteen vine in the branches, really really powerful in helping us understand the Gospel and implications of the Gospel in the lives of believers, and so in the passage you just spread we. We see the characters rate Jesus says he is the Vine God. The father is the vinedresser and his image. Bearers are the branches, and those in Christ are the branches that bear fruit. And the imagery of the vine just makes such deep truth so changeable I'm at least it does for me. I'm not a master gardener. We have like a very small race card in bed. But I do know that an order for a shoot or branch or a plant to grow and bear fruit. It needs to actually be connected to the main vine, because that's where it gets the nourishment and support that it needs to thrive, and so if the connection is severed, or if it's not really connected than what it is is, it's essentially dead, and likewise like we can't bear. Fruit can't grow and godliness. We can't do anything of eternal value apart from our union with Christ. You know apart from being connected to the true vine, the source of our nourishment and support. You know he really is the source. Source of life and not just life, but you know a productive fruitful life. Yeah, I love the image to you know Stephanie. You mentioned this idea of union with Christ and that really is exactly what Jesus is talking about when he gives us this image of the vine and the branches, so if that is an unfamiliar idea to union with Christ, you are not alone. Actually. This whole concept is relatively new to me within recent years that I realized what a big deal this was. Yeah, but it's actually such a central theme of the Gospel to central theme of the New Testament it. Really Explains The Gospel. And you know this idea of union with Christ. It's basically starts with the fact that apart from him. We are spiritually dead. We are totally central unable to do anything good on our own, and we see this in a fusions to one says you were dead in your trespasses and sins, and so because of that because of our sinfulness, the punishment that we. We deserve for our sins. The payment for sins is death but Jesus. Christ who is the perfect son of God, died in our place to pay our penalty for sin, and now if we put our faith in him, instead of trying to put our faith in our own works to save us, what happens is we actually become united to him so that what? What is true of Christ becomes true of us. This is union with Christ, and so what that means is that we get his righteousness credited to us, because we are united to him, and that penalty of sin is paid. We don't have to pay it because he has done it for us. And then we can live a fusions two after that verse about. About being dead in our trespasses now down in verse four says but God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love, with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses made us alive together with Christ by grace. You have been saved, and that's the key. We are made alive together with Christ because we are united to him. But what's incredible is that the Gospel doesn't stop just there because our union with Christ goes beyond our initial salvation, it means that we have union with him throughout all of our lives, and so we have access to his strength to his piece, his love his goodness, because he is an us, and we are in him, and so we are in Ketley tied to him even as we have his spirit within us, like Kristen mentioned from this passage, and that means. Means that we have everything we need in him. Because we're united to him, and you know one song that you guys have heard me, quote I know probably multiple! Times is a song yet, not I but through Christ in me by city alight, and this song is basically all about union with Christ, and never uses those words, but that's that's what it's about so Tux this idea as being strange and divine this this miracle that we're united to him, it says. How strange and divine I can sing, all is mine yet. Not I but through Christ in me and that's our union with him, and if you want to explore this topic more I would highly recommend. The book called Union with Christ the way to know and enjoy God by Rankin Wilburn I'm. It's really really helpful in breaking this down and seeing the Gospel in completely New Light so yeah, when we see this image of the vine, and we see it as a picture of our union with Christ is the perfect image because it shows how we are connected to him one with him because of what he has done for us. Thank you for mentioning eating with Christ Joanna. is something that has been really transformative in how I understand the Gospel and I love that books were also highly recommend it, and it's something I think. The three of us have talked about quite a bit because I think this conversation is probably reflective of the daily boxer conversations that the of us. A lot of fun to be able to do it with everyone being able to listen in..

I don't think he'd ever played golf in his life. Has since. Well, I'd be shocked if he's a good golfer out we'd have to put a lot of time. And you got to put the time in golf is not something you can pick up once or twice a year and be any good at not balling was Jerome's game. Piece on him. I had to FedEx balls to what excuse me his. Thanks. Toys known. You'd have unique talent. You're a jack-of-all-trades Ketley that is awesome. Have you need your balls FedEx girl? Yeah. I think he bowled three. He had a three hundred really get a perfect game. Yeah. Yeah. What take two games to maybe have three. Listen, I I'm absolutely confident. I could I could make three hundred and two games. I'm good for a buck twenty. I can bowl two hundred two hundred you guys can both three hundred. Really? Yes. I just I ball a lot. Do you curve the ball? I don't cover the ball straight down the middle. Me too. Wow. A brand new show me bettas chipping in in one of these celebrity golf tournament. So his wing. He's got a lot of time playing golf. "Announced sorry. Nice going Rachel? Good, morning how are you Yeah we're. Off read Hello I'm depressed why for. One thing I thought, yesterday was Friday Saturday it's a Saturday here on a Saturday here's the other thing but. The rest of morning is going to be ruined. Because I put. On a shirt I. Was. Running out of the house a shirt. That's too tight. Doesn't look too, tight. Really I feel. Like it. Shows every curve Same. Thing this morning and, then I said no I'm looking to go around and suck my gut in all day. And it's still gonna look like a big load. That I am. You know well again. Good. It doesn't look that bad thank types Did? You, have, to. Say every curve every yes. I do So. You ever do that or you wear like the wrong thing, you're just like uncomfortable all, day the wrong shoes or something and. It's just so anyway I often attention how. About my patriots we. Avenge at Super Bowl loss last. Night I'm glad to see Tom. Brady finally had some class what what's shaking? The, hands of To shake hands, with Nick foles months after the Super. Bowl there was a there was a controversy and it's been reported, the, last few. Weeks of course with. The eagles playing the patriots. In this preseason game last night I guess after the. The Super Bowl ended they never the coaches and quarterbacks and other players but it's a tradition they they. Find each other and shake hands and Tommy boy left without shaken. Foles hands and it's not like oh it's chaos I couldn't, find him they managed another, Super Bowls I've been on the field. Twice after the Super Bowl it is chaos. By case and they. Have guards escort them to each other to stay in the morning Every year I've seen bell checks done that a few times he's a he's a source for Yeah you look at it's not the end of the world I thought there was, disappointing you, gotta, find the. Guy and foles was like total class before during and. After saying I'll say cool he's great I love the guy and. All that read his book there's not. A single reference. To that in the. Book at all he, thinks it's much, ado about nothing he's just classy so it. Doesn't matter I, laugh at. People especially in Boston at least a little, bit of the payback. No zero pay Becky lost even if it was a regular, season game this payback The super bowl's a Super Bowl nothing else. Unless, you beat him, again in the Super Bowl that's the. Only kind of payback but. Anyways this other patriots one thirty seven twenty Brady played virtually the whole first half played, well here's, a, bad thing. For you I know you are obviously a fan of. The world champion Philadelphia Eagles falls looks like he hurt shoulder last. Night they don't they don't think it's. Too bad but. With Wentz went star. Starter was out a lot of last, year and for the playoffs of course he. May not be, ready by. Week one of the last thing they need, is false I heard right I. Think they're just playing it extra safe and why. Risk anything further in a preseason yeah totally agree Was the? Third they did he played? Really, well yeah And they brought in the former jet and I know you're a Penn State. Family to a Christian. Hackenberg You're saying they have another healthy body predicts in and I think that Nick fillet brought Nick falls back and he was ready to leave the game, before he, came. Back to the eagles they they convinced him to come back and he kinda was like all right fine I'll give it. One more shot because he had a couple of really bad years So he came back and finished what he, started and I think at this point this will probably be is my prediction his last season and once his contract is up and I think they wanted to have a solid number three in place there, so then, they'll. Have Carson Wentz Nick Seinfeld Nate Seinfeld and Christian so he can't have too many Help the patriots they got rid of Garoppolo if Brady goes down like their. Season's over it you have to have at least two good so anyway I saw. Something yesterday about rob, gronkowski yeah so the only. Thing he's ever bought with his NFL money is. The gold saying that he wears is that because I know I know, that he said that he's been living off his endorsement money hasn't touched any of his salary I think he's made a forty. Five million in the NFL just just NFL, salary he's a meathead. Head but he's not stupid now Around him so if you're smart with money but yeah I I saw that and I'm. Like he's not spent a single paycheck really all about was that call chain banked. Yep he's smart he's, got a lot of. Money He does. Want, to buy. A private jet because why not Well yes you'll be able. To afford, and he's, a, guy who's been hurt a, lot you know he's he's he's I. Think he's twenty nine but. His body is about thirty nine he's at. So many surgeries he, might shut it down like. Next year he's taken enough beating but he can walk away A lot of, these guys who just, blow all their, money well they come into this like. A lot of them come from nothing and they're not used. To also, don't have. That kind of money never will so it's a, whole? Different lifestyle. All of a sudden you go from nothing to millions. And millions of. Dollars. Twenty or twenty two no concept of you know the, rest of your life you also think you. Think it's gonna last forever to the I mean. It, happens, it helps when you have a strong intact family right he does he said. His father, and, mother, beaten, into you better save your, money yeah even if even though you. Have a ton of it. Save your money got along life to live. So Aretha Franklin last, night all day long yesterday I was in don't get me I love, Aretha, Franklin, she, was. An, American institution she. Deserves all the. Coverage. In the world I would say this and this don't do. This, no hater eight here I I was the coverage is a little bit more than I expected like on NBC last night it was. They did. The first nine minutes on her. First ninety minutes of the show of a nightly news and then another two-minute tribute at the end, like eleven minutes, of what do they have minus commercial. Twenty two minutes so I just thought that was it was. A lot, I'm not. Saying it's good or bad I'm just saying I, was? Like wow. That's a lot of new stuff a nice refreshing break. From everything else. I. Would rather turn on the newscasts yesterday and see that, then more pro this anti blah blah blah. Blah yeah I hate you you hate me yeah So, but, Fox News oh my gosh the. Ultimate disrespect, I'm sure it was not. Intentional but they put up a picture when they were talking about Aretha Franklin's death and, they, had, with, the. Name, Aretha Franklin a. Picture of the. Bell How does that happen probably some twenty year old twenty two year old and Johnny was like told to go find some days it was like Oh yes Black singer from the. Sixties, twenty. Yes right at twenty twenty five year old, production. Assist right doesn't know either Patti. LaBelle or Now when Samuel l. Jackson dive they're going to sell picture of Laurence Fishburne absolutely, fantastic so Jimmy Fallon had an interesting story about fell about Aretha, Franklin last night when Aretha Franklin to come on your. Show you'd have to turn the air conditioning off at like, eight AM so you couldn't because it's. Bad for the vocal cords so she doesn't so no. Air conditioning for the whole day and we're keeping freezing in. The, studio. So I don't sweat like like was no, air? Conditioning so the show comes out The people in the, top row back there it's like a hundred and fifteen degrees at. They're all my jokes bomb this show is terrible but. We have Aretha Franklin was the best so we get to, the end of the show and I. Go on the queen's Aretha Franklin and she walks out. In a long for code You're kidding me Laughing I'm. Cold I go. You're kidding me That's cute By. The way oh. My God I'm sweating, right now but I'm. Small shirt you'll admit that that's comfortable. For. Me yeah what is it about eighty one, and here something. Like that gold stocks has closed at. Least temporarily this is. A price I think it was to, most everybody Chris Ketley the supervisor. In Glenville I guess he knows the family, really well and he says it wasn't like due to the financial troubles or competition from. The internet he says it looks like a kind of a personal. Family thing I would classify..
