David Price on Colonel John Haslet's World

"David price. Thank you for joining me on the american revolution. Podcast thank you very much. It's a pleasure to be here. you're here today. Because britain a new book. About colonel john hazlet. What prompted you to write a book about john has let at. How important is he to the story of the american revolution. Well the genesis of this book. Mike was my first literary effort rescuing the revolution on sung patriot. Heroes in their ten. Crucial days are america's war for independence. John has was one of several individuals who i profiled in that book in a series of graphical vignettes which focused primarily on the contributions that each of these people need to patriot caused during what was perhaps the ten most inspirational days in american history. And perhaps the most pivotal moment in the war for independence. Now why did i choose hizbullah. Well you know. His name kept popping up in various things that i was reading most especially in a hackett fischer's pulitzer prize winning work. Washington's crossing which is the bible for people like me who are historical interpreters or so case graphs historical interpreters. I washington crossing historic park. That's a joke. By the way you have to read that book and you have to have a decent command. Say the material in order to be able to give a tour there under the auspices of a fringe group. So the more read about him. The more i was impressed by what he did. And and the kind of character he displayed in the course of his revolutionary service. So around the time that. I was reading that book and i guess the germ if you will of the seed when he's right. Metaphor here have been planted. The perhaps do something a little more elaborate on has land. And i came across the book by fred walters. John has led a useful one. Which far as i know. That was the only book that about him. It's a self published work came out. I believe in two thousand and five. Mary engaging read. I enjoyed it immensely. But it's written in the form largely not entirely but largely in the form of a historical novel. There's a good deal of well. Frankly fictional material an air imaginary dialogue scenes useful information to improve to be very helpful to me my initial reaction after reading. That was well. Fred has the subject covered pretty well. And i don't need to pursue curl has let any further the more i thought about it. The more i felt it deserved an effort by someone to craft more conventional kind of a non fiction work about curl and his delaware regiment now. I should add parenthetically that since his first book. Fred walters did polish. What i gather is a more conventional work and non fiction account. Biography of the kernel which i believe is entitled. John has lots eric journey. But it was published exclusively in a kindle edition. I decided to go ahead and pursue this idea of trying to write a book. Hamlet just to see you know when i was starting out i was just with the mindset of well. Let's see how this goes and what looks like and it wasn't challenge to produce something. That is a book length. Because as i pointed out in the preface to the book. There's not a lot known about his pre-revolutionary war life. We don't even know exactly when it was born is a someone about whom an agent is to in the preface or introduction. We don't even know exactly what he looks like. Physical descriptions of him but there's no authentic rep visual representation of inviting eighteen artists. Not by anyone. Who was alive when he was only two images that. I'm aware which i discussed under book. Which is the coverage. The stanley arthurs painting a reversal of the image of has lead in the stanley arthurs painting that hangs in the delaware public archives building. But in any case i could push ahead with the project so ultimately when it became was an effort to inter we three things one is the has the biography. One is the story of his seventeen seventy six regimen the first incarnation of delaware regimen with a little bit about the proposed hasler regimen is the reconstituted regimen in non truncated form that was created in seventeen seventy seven after his death and then a last name of courses or general one. It's quitting this whole context of the seventeen seventy six campaign. washington's army the new york and the campaign. Which of course culminates in what we call the ten crucial days campaign from december twenty fifth. Seventeen seventy six through january. Seventeen seventy seven. When has what has killed about princeton. The other thing. I think that was pushing me to do. This was at some point. When i was writing the second book it occurred needed. It would be a neat idea. If i could do a trilogy on the ten crucial days. I'm not aware that any other offer done. So what distinguishes has led from anyone else in terms of his contribution to the patriot. Cause well he created one of the elite regiments and continental army in seventeen. Seventy six as i believe the largest regiment in the army in the early months of that year they started recruiting january by me erupt. Almost eight hundred men. They were full uniformed. And i think they were. Perhaps the only regimen in the army that could make claimed for uniform to fully armed under has let's to of his agitate thomas holland formerly of his britannic majesty's army day molded these this forced into a efficient elite fighting unit. Bouffe or get too much into the details of the door blues. I wanna ask one thing you said. We don't know much about hamlet's prewar life. We do that. He came from northern ireland right and that he settled in kent county delaware. Do we have any information about why he left ireland and why he settled in delaware. Well he may have had personal indoor political reasons leaving ulster when he did his wife died his first wife got about five years before he came to the colonies which he did in seventeen fifty seven or thereabouts. Minor standing as they may have personal issues between him and members of the congregation. Her guests may have had an emotional toll on him. Such that believe she dialed probably died in childbirth so he was left with a young daughter. This may have taken a toll on him and as such impacted his ability to perform his ministerial duties. And that may lead to some ancient. Shall we say between young minister and members of his parish more generally when he came to the colonies. it was in the context of this larger immigration movement. If you will of the scotch-irish from northern ireland to the new world during the early and mid eighteenth century with was because of the harsh economic into the adverse economic conditions under which many of them live in the restrictions rather onerous restrictions have been imposed on him by british policy towards ireland towards the presbyterian church that was regarded as unwelcome adversary adversaries. You will to the established anglican church. So i think there's a plausible logger be made. That was part of. let's motivation. Maybe dominant part of his motivation.

"We discussed. If we don't root out the fraud, the tremendous and horrible fraud that's taken place in our 2020 election. We don't have a country anymore. So with the resolve and support of the American people, we will restore honesty and integrity to our elections and we will restore trust. In our system of government. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America. Now we're going to get to some whistle blowers, witnesses that have been testifying in just a minute, but I want to just sum up. As we have Michigan witnesses, uh, again all small, signing affidavits under the penalty of perjury. That's called evidence, everybody. Where's the evidence? Well, that would be in a court of law that would be evidence that would be the testimony of eye witnesses, then put under cross examination. That suspect Kim. That's enough in one witness. Eyewitness could actually end up in the conviction of somebody for murder, For example, listen, so as we is, we began to look at that my team focused on, um Anomalous patterns were votes were entered an amount of time that was physically impossible for the tabulation machines to process the votes. And so we found 44 spikes in the analysis that exceeded The tabulation machines ability to process that amount of boats in a timeline, and that was in Kent County, Macomb County, Oakland.

"Grassy area in between an on ramp and the interstate. But Mr Ables car ended up in the Gore Mr Taylor pulled over in his car in the emergency lane and was actually on the phone with 911 when Mr Abel retrieved a rifle from his car and approached Mr Taylor's car and began screaming at him and pointing that rifle in his face and subsequent to that Mr Taylor pulled out his own nine millimeter handgun and fired four shots. And Mr Abel striking him and he was transported to the hospital. But Dodge shortly later after Wow, so presumably okay, they're getting into a fufu Know f You car crashes. He gets out the car. I'm going to tell that guy I wrecked my car when given a piece of my mind, and I'm gonna scare here a little bit of sticks the gun in the car. Sometimes in life, Rob when you pointed a gun at someone else, that person has a gun themselves and this guy shouting, right? But, you know, I can only assume that Mr Taylor was scared to death of that, But I think this is the very reason a lot of people choose to carry guns. Because you never know one. Somebody's gonna react this way and stick a gun in your face. And you know the Crazy thing about this. It turns out, Mr Abel the rifle. He was carrying a 30 aught six hunting rifle, but it wasn't loaded. And it had a trigger lock on the trigger of the rifle, so he couldn't have shot it. Even if he wanted to, Um, this gun was For all intents and purposes disabled but fact it didn't have bullets in it. And they had a lock on the trigger. However, there is no way Mr Taylor could have known this you certainly the trigger was in Mr Ables Hand and so you can't tell from our rightful by looking at it, whether or not it's loaded And I certainly couldn't have seen the trigger lock from the angle. The gun was being held by Mr Able, So, you know, understandably still, like you know, five was in Mr Taylor's place. I got to think that I probably would have done the same thing. But, you know, Mr Abel was acting very aggressively, both in the driving and then when he exited the vehicle, there were some female bystanders that had stopped that witnessed the wreck and they were telling him Um, you know, you don't need to act this way. Calm down something to that effect, And he stated, I'm going to kill the guy that did this to me and then got out of his car with the rifle actually pointed it at a different bystander who had pulled over after witnessing the wrecked And asking that he was the one that wrecked him and scared that I'll have to death. I'm sure there's actually a bunch of photographs from bystanders that have, uh, this fellow they walked up to Mr Taylor to see if he was okay. I'm sorry, Mr able to see if he was okay. Um, jumping out into expressway traffic in order to get away from Mr Abel on his rifle. And it's after that, that he approaches Mr Taylor's car. And there's more by standard photos of Mr Abel shoving his rifle in the window of the of the car that Mr Taylor's driving the next thing you know, the Pictures capture Mr Abel on the ground in obvious distress. So are you going to be charges filed? No, That's I mean, it. Sure sounds like this was justifiable. Yeah, that's you know, Kentucky Law makes it very clear that number one you don't have a duty to retreat about. The Mr Taylor could have retreated because he was seated in the driver's seat of his car, so we really didn't have any place to go. Um, but also that you were allowed to then you're justified in the use of physical force on another person. If you believe your life is in danger, and I'm understandably Mr Taylor had a rifle barrel pointed in the face. He's literally down the barrel of a rifle. I can't imagine what else would be going through his mind Other than this guy's about to shoot me now under Kentucky. Well, he's justified in the use of force, even deadly force. And so there will be no charges filed against him. Now is either Mr Abel or Mr Taylor, given a statement or sending thing to please or you or anything. Well, Mr Ables to see so he don't know if I don't write that he had passed away from that. Okay. I knew he was in hospital, but I know he went to the hospital, and he I'm not sure if he don router, died at the hospital, but he didn't make it long enough to give a statement. 16 I believe was talking when he got into the back of the ambulance still, but I don't think that lasted much longer. And I know that no police officers had an opportunity to ask him any questions. Um, Mr Taylor was taken into custody and brought back to the police department, where he met with detectives for several hours. And I didn't request an attorney talked to detectives told them everything he knew. And then after consulting with me, that's when we made the decision to turn Mr Taylor loose While we finished our investigation, Make sure everything Panned out the way then he said it happened and police interviewed over a dozen witnesses involved in this case than observed various parts of this case for right police in Kent County police Did a heck of a job, really bringing us all together as fast as they did, But it's you know, unusual situation that got a lot of attention caused a big stir because of where it happened. Things like that are very rare in Kent County, especially in that part of town. Um, so understandably, there are a lot of people want to know what's going on. So I think it's important that we get this information out there. Let everybody know Exactly what happened and what the situation is, and you know that's something that I think people can have come to expect in Kentucky, ING and Kenton County, and it should be that that way everywhere that if a person points a gun in your face, and they're not lawful and their decision to do so that you're entitled to defend yourself, and that's exactly what happened here. No question about it. I just think it's incredibly sad and stupid, too. You know the guy he's going to get out of here. Over a yelling back and forth. Somebody swerving on the highway, Okay, even an accident And he's going to grab a rifle that he knows you can't use. But I'm gonna show I'm a tough guy gonna go there. I'm going to show that I'm gonna scare the hell of this. Scare the hell out of this guy. Well, as I said, they open the show here. Sometimes you point a gun, someone that that person had points, one right back at you. Yeah, it's just I mean, this guy's family. It's gotta be. Are you kidding me? You know, like he's dead now, because he's so stupid. He's gonna pull a rifle and try to scare this guy and the guy was completely justified. Knew when he shot back. It's just you know, you're subsisted, sad and stupid as Arkansas. It's definitely sad. It's very unnecessary. You know, Mr Abel, but whatever reason brought about his own death, we, you know, have our suspicions about whether or not alcohol, potentially any other substances were involved because there were Empty liquor bottles found in Mr Ables vehicle. But right now, toxicology is pending in Hamilton County Coroner's office, So we'll have to wait until they're done with those tests before we know for sure. Do we see a lot of this kind of thing, Rob, we're talking to rob Sanders. Ah, it just seems to get worse and worse. I mean, not obviously to escalate to this stage, but man Road rage. It seems to me to be a big problem. You know, Eddie, I hadn't worked a fatal road.

"On our feet first of race news at Harborview Medical Center we just learned that a patient is being tested for possible coronavirus here the hospital says the person is in satisfactory condition and is being treated in isolation right now earlier today health officials said for their patients in king county are still awaiting test results and the next few hours we could find out of the coronavirus outbreak is declared a global emergency the World Health Organization is holding a meeting to make that decision four thirty our time there's a growing concern the virus is spreading from person to person outside of China there are now more than seventy seven hundred cases and one hundred seventy deaths in that country that surpasses the number of people sickened in the sars outbreak here in the U. S. there are still just five confirmed cases including a Snohomish county man governor Jay Inslee says two hundred people are working to stay ahead of the virus here in Washington if you're really gonna stop a pandemic you got to get a head out you can't chase it always be a week behind so what we have done is to marshal the resources so that we can bring those to bear as a as of right now the CDC and state health officials still say the risk of getting coronavirus is considered low new tonight the CDC release video taking us through the screening process at twenty US airports including sea tac airport at some air passengers from China have their temperatures taken governor Inslee says he asked the CDC to extend that part of the screening to sea tac travelers must fill out a survey about their trip and health issues all travelers at sea tac we'll see the signs are now posted the entry to each security checkpoint showing precautions for anyone headed to Wuhan the epicenter of the outbreak and we've compiled a list of resources and other information to help you answer questions about the corona virus for the very latest updates just gonna come one is dot com slash corona virus checking the rate I worry in between rain storms right now but take a live look at our traffic jam on the right fog is starting to roll in tonight she know don was looking ahead to the next commute and the next round of rain chance things getting interesting out there even when it's quiet right we've got the fog settling in we saw so much moisture over the month of January so just sitting there in the soil so the second it clears out as a starting to do tonight we can see some stars up there it pulls the moisture back out we have some fog it's going to get the car right before sunrise in in some locations it is already pretty thick out there this evening we're seeing visibility down to less than a mile already in parts of Lewis and Pierce counties we should get some movement right around on you need someone to push the fog out of the way and and that's because we've got a new disturbance moving and as we do see that take over on Thursday and into Friday the wet roads are going to be a problem again along with the flooding the chance for more landslides and we've had a slew of them this week and also the avalanche danger getting higher that's because there's this atmospheric river on our doorstep it will be increasing the rain right again by mid to late afternoon so a murky morning commute but a rainy drive back home and already a flood watch in place yet again here for most of the waterways western Washington expecting many of those to go under a flood warning by the end of the week we'll talk more about that fog the murky Startin when the rains gonna show up on your doorstep interest my forecast thank you what's not had tax with big business is once again being asked to shoulder the costs of king county's homeless crisis this time state lawmakers introducing a bill the fast track affordable housing construction the bill would pave the way to impose a pay roll expense levy if approved you could raise one hundred twenty million dollars a year here in king county the tax would only apply to businesses with workers who earn more than a hundred fifty thousand dollars a year some companies would be exempt such as those with fewer than fifty workers how much all right as live now with a closer look at this plan and why local business leaders are taking a cautious stance.

server with the subpoena to appear before a how many county grand jury investigating criminality on her part and I understand she's hired an attorney she's accepted the subpoena and then in Clermont county you have a candidate here Joe deals who I seemingly was on Ashley Madison websites trolling for a young attractive women any received the endorsement of the Klamath county Republican Party and also the Ohio values voters organization that supports quote faith life marriage family and religious freedom on quote join me now is Chris Hicks who is the chair of the union township Republican Party in Clermont county and Chris Hicks welcome again to the bill Cunningham show and Chris how are you I'm doing fantastic are you might want to hell's going on in Clermont county well on this particular day I caught the very end of math tempt him being on your show I got a call by reporter this morning if you made a comment about it and and and trying to get the Mister deal with Mister Simpson the chair of our party to find out what was going on what was behind it I'm waiting to find more detail on this but I and and and I learned in my corporate experience will be the most important question to not forget to ask when something like this comes out is is there anything else is there any is there anything else bill fast I learned after I was trained well the company but I would have the pleasure to work with is there anything else well I've put out a statement that says art it out with it's my belief on reading it it's my belief that honesty is always the best policy I love political types that go to that line when they're honest the only happens when they get caught although the second line of his statement the first line it is my belief that honesty is always the best policy red tag really matters well you know it's funny as I tell you what I'm a dummy still chair of the union township public and party which is the biggest part of the Klamath county party well you know I've been to order you I would almost before talking about my impeachment trials and the like trump on trial all the time there was a time when Mr deals with the secretary for our community he is not writing these statements and I think you need to answer who was writing the statement I know his writing okay because he was our secretary and I and I think you've got some pros and there and I don't know where the money's coming for yeah we're talking about a a house rates tape like sixty five grand a year you know where these professional writers coming from about Tonya I don't think maybe it is maybe he's gone to a class but I don't think this is his writing I could you give me some help on is working here I'd like to know is helping them and and and I'd like to know the truth you know it and I will I dance to that question is there anything else the anything else might be he's running as a an airforce veteran and I respect his service there assume it went well and then he also is running as a successful small business owner in Clermont county Madeline and you know that's the thing that that that for me is the I thought somebody asked me that I think that people in the party knew about this and I don't think they did I don't know what are you guys to make an uplifting of about the Ashley Madison stuff but right before our faces and it bothered me to know and Mr built of allowed to portray himself if this super entrepreneur businessman and I don't think you have any bonuses there are I drove around thirteen the one point above is difficult for their own clothes store fronts and more read pretty that's real sorry our core question I tried to answer this question within our endorsement process and it was bitten for my grandsons and the party chair for me to ask this question and here's a question you run on a platform of being an entrepreneur but all of your local businesses are empty storefronts you have asked I you've asked me to ask you questions directly but then you want to answer I'm asking again what is your purpose ownership interest if any in deep alternative and Kentucky and that's a reference to that's the one thing he climbs over there during the summer because I don't think he actually owns any part of that business I think it's a lot and that's one of the biggest problem we have in Clermont county is we have a party that stacked full of swamp insider in there okay with letting people be so far the government's up up and away I'm not all me to go on here remember our estimates are as we we got David you ball by state Senate candidate is on on probation right now petition fraud and endorsed by the party Pat monger engineer that went down on corruption charges just this year we go back a little bit we got RG Wilson with the garden hose because we've got an abortion cover up that happen within the party early park county that I will turn it in more detail now we got Ashley Madison sites in it and it's a call market is ridiculous and it's a it's a fine to the voters and the and the party described keeps trying to force you to people because what matters of these that all these people in the party Clermont county is control control the people control the officers and they like you you know that when you want to call somebody it's nice to have somebody with falls because it gives them a reason they submit to you and we got to this claim of stuff up it's not another unnecessary unforced error on the part of the party and all but nobody else does all be the one calling for the meeting to discuss this discuss and get and hopefully at some point in time people start to wake up and realize the Clermont county GOP is swap and their brother rob other candidates running for things and and all and we have a great opportunity this time to open up our political system in Clermont county and I think the more light to shed on it the more the car purchase will try to run you know three six is almost a requirement to running Clermont county has a Republican to be either indicted charged or convicted of a crime yes Archie out yet no argued I'm not gonna be there aren't you you know obviously people have issues there's always forgiveness all that kind of stuff as the as far as I could tell when it wants are cheaper now the system on involved the problem we have in Clermont county of these people do stuff and I want to come back you know get you know at some point no is there no to tell you you know I I got caught I'm done David you will the perfect example of that what what more do you need to do what more damage needs to be done but he still convinced that he needs the gods gift to the politicians and he should be and what our office he wants to be in the party people validate amend that by endorsing him now at this point I'm looking at some more these stories about the Ohio value voters organization they endorse dijo del saying he supports faith life marriage family and religious freedom on quote yeah comments there are you know I I again I don't there's the that this this Ashley Madison bank I only know what's in the paper I don't know anything more than that so the my big question right now it's just everybody should talk a little bit on that an aunt that important question of what else is there to that because you know if there are other stuff you know so in and then just get more facts on the table don't don't on these things but the bill her stuff I think that's been part of all of us in the party this whole cycle that he does not have any both of those and how can you walk around saying he's some big entrepreneur business guy when he doesn't really have any does or to sell to you know I don't know what I got a lot of land there thinkers Mr deal got a big new house recently he's got a I got polygynous twinkle burden of like words all this money coming from you know most people my age political salaries you know I got a state route you know nobody trip all works good work number should say that you have sixty five thousand dollars here's a lot of money that can always support a certain lifestyle and when you see people living a lifestyle that's beyond that kind of salary would be able to support you know it doesn't sometimes it's fair to ask the question how you support miss lifestyle and I think that's another thing right before us in the party is this diverse background support my lifestyle and now we've got you know is the facade that one of our biggest problems I think in politics overall it's just saw in people thinking they can get away with Assad in and you know something like this look I don't know what's all involved is actually Malcolm's up these kind of things that people bring about proactively you don't get in front of you know but I just can't believe people in this day and age think they're gonna hide stuff from the voters and from the public and I think the key question that Mr does need to address on this is is there anything else come clean now on anything else they could come down the pike the that would be embarrassing to you your family or party yeah I got a statement yeah if you don't have the right friends people go to extraordinary lengths in an attempt to destroy your life it is very clear to both the key up his wife and myself that genie Schmidt and her political allies are using this as a way to try and get me out of the race let me be clear this isn't just an attack against me it's an attack against my family and social he's blaming Jeannie Schmidt and our allies for his joining Ashley Madison well over you know what's funny Willie is you know my my but you know I'm a pariah the Republican Party and even starts me sometimes how long I've been able to hang on as the chair in Union Township but if I had done anything remotely like there's a bunch playboy magazine once I'd be they'd be lynching in the streets and that and so we gotta have conservative values what at what what happens is what's bad is when you have the rule of the mob and you had an attack on the.

He has seven horses entered on this colonial downs program starting with the first maiden special weight going all the way through to the grade three new kent county virginia derby and he is with us now here on the equine forum mike good morning and happy virginia derby day hey morning. Thanks for having me your going to be a busy night for you. <hes> you know the sensational philly and the virginia oaks and then credit swap he actually have to in the virginia oaks. You you have to the kitten's joy. <hes> how you gonna keep it all straight my man well we got. We got good help over here. The horses arrived early this morning and <music>. I'm actually at the barn now. Everybody's shipped well so we're <hes> we're hoping for a big evening. You've got <hes> tasting tasting the stars. Who's of virginia brad. That's gotta be pretty cool you. You've been getting a lot of attention for that. Yeah <hes> there's been a couple of guys by the bar and wanting to take pictures pictures of her and <hes> you know hopefully she's going to be a a good representative for <hes> state virginia. You know mike she so versatile to we'll start with the ladies first during the virginia. Okay we'll start with the star of the show so to speak tasing stars who is probably gonna go post. What is the favorite. She's so versatile <hes> she's one as i mentioned going long on the dirt earlier this year at the fairgrounds dense comes comes back in turf debut in wins impressively that day what's what's impressed you most about tasting stars well. I mean the bottom line with tasting. The stars is she's. She's very talented and very athletic. Athletic and her dam was successful on on both services so when we came off a little a little bit of a layoff off from february to july we were looking for a spot for her and there really wasn't a good dirt option at that time <hes> and so we just decided that <hes> you know it was time to go ahead and test the grass and <hes> she went out there and did or thing and ran really well how on on that surface just like. She did on the dirt so she. She's one of those horses that <hes> you know seems like she'll run on just about anything. Was that a little scary to run on the turf awfully yeah it certainly was. I mean you know anytime. You're you're trying something new with these sources. You never know how it's going to go into. You actually get out there and do it. You can make all the predictions you want in the world but bottom line is they gotta go out there and show up and and get the job done and she did just that so <hes> certainly her winning. That race is giving us. You know the confidence to come back in a race like this tonight. It's been one of the hallmarks of your career not afraid to take a chance. If you think you can win the race you just go ahead didn't do it. You don't worry too much about what people think are. Are that type of thing but yet your horses are are very consistent run through their conditions and you do things the right way but you're not afraid to step out so to speak well. We've always believed that <hes> you know if you've gotta talented horse <hes> and there's a race <hes> wherever it may be if if it's real within reasonable shipping distance and you can get them there safely <hes> it's worshiping i shipping and and taking a shot <hes> in different spots around the country and that's you know we've been lucky to be successful in doing that so <hes> with colonial down reopening this year having a presence in the mid atlantic with the enabled at fair hill and mom it made sense to <hes> you know come here
