"For being with us on this monday morning. It's going to be a fun show in a lot to talk about Normally we've got kris van at this time. But chris's out on vacation until thursday. So we will have mike freeman Well county commissioner. Who will join us. The commissioners are looking at the possibility of adding some solar ray relations in place. So we're going to talk with mike freeman about that. Come out about ten thirty five But my goodness so much to unpack from the weekend That was in the sports world specifically and sad day for A lot of denver nuggets fans What an egregious objection that was on nicola. Yoke yesterday just ridiculous the nba. I've had i've had my issues with the nba And how they've run some things. I've had my issues With with you know how player driven this league is how superstar driven this league is so the denver nuggets finally get a superstar in the yokich wins the mvp and he gets tossed out of elimination game for a play in which i'm okay. You wanna give him a flagrant one there you want to give them a flagrant one. That's all right. But for them. To upgrade it to flagrant to is just absurd yokich For those of you didn't check. It didn't get a chance to watch the game. He comes running over camera pains holding the ball and it's a frustration foul. There's no doubt about it. He comes running over winds up and goes for the ball. He does hit almost purely ball out of his hand campaign. Of course flops. It like every other player on the sons did falls down just writing in pain which is just bs because there is not a lot of contact there at all the rafts. Golden review it. You've thought for sure it was going to be a pfleger one after that happened. Yoki devon booker tries to be a tough guy jump. In the face of nicola yokich they both received technicals and then yokich receives the flagrant to toss out of the game. The nuggets would go on to lose that game. And the season's over just like that can't believe it you know. He knew that this is going to be the end at some point without jamal. Murray i suppose but he didn't think it was going to be a sweep to the hands of the phoenix suns who yeah good team but beatable for denver so it leaves a bunch of question marks it leaves a ton of question marks my answer honestly today and it was my answer before this is my answer after game two michael malone needs fired and i know that's probably not going to be the sentiment from a lot of people around the state but you rip into a guy in your opinion your guys like he did after game two and i get it they. They may have deserved it but to go after them so publicly. I feel like it leads a little bit. you can read into nicole. Yokich is actions you know. He said after game three. That loss. Friday night i left it all on the floor man. I don't know what else you need for me. I'm paraphrasing and then on sunday game four. We saw we saw the frustration. We saw him take a hack needs. Let's get into news four northern colorado. This is a A very very tragic story here. Coming out of the greeley tribune authorities say five year. Old girl was killed in johnstown crash that we reported on last week This by austin fuskus The car to say patrol has released further details. This thursday car crash Hospitalized drivers and killed a child in johnstown. The crash was called in thursday afternoon. It's vehicle versus semi-truck crashing johnstown just southeast of love. The crash occurred at south armagh county road one and easter road eighteen and area that is also considered. We'll kenro thirteen. And walkin wrote fifty four thirty four year old. A thirty four year old woman was driving. The jeep northbound She pulled out into. The intersection was struck by the semi truck on the passenger side causing the jeep to roll onto the driver's side. Color reported the five year old girl that was passenger in the jeep was killed in the crash and pronounced dead on the scene. That had an identity of the child has not yet been released by the world county. Coroner's office the six year old semi driver bolt transported medical center of the rockies in loveland with minor injuries cutler said bolt drivers were in moderate condition following. The crash went on to say that one of the drivers was initially recorded as being in critical condition because of a head injury. That was the only and that was the only only the initial report and both are actually in moderate condition. So another tragic story. I mean i hate. I hate these stories. Absolutely hate him but every time. It's a good reminder. i. I mean there's times where i i'm thinking about something right going home. Probably not as much attention to the road. As i should be and i think these stories as tragic as they are conserve as a subtle reminder. That how quickly things can go. And this is definitely one of those one of those stories. One of those stories that i hate to report on one of those stories that i hate to read one of those stories that i share but it's a reminder it's it's a it's a it's a good reminder about what is going on Booder group filed suit to stop this permitting process in fort collins. This is going to continue on and on and on and on and on and on apparently cannot this friday ken on nsen with talked about the save. How did I know that you would find a space story for us this morning. I'll sniff it out. With all the talk of recalling governor we wanted to go over just how our recall election would work if this does indeed happen, so you're about to hear from Mary Beth boiling. She's the associate dean of academic affairs and George School of Law, and she outlines right now the process once the signatures meet the threshold, and once those signatures are verified, the secretary of state's office We'll make a notice that the number has been met. Then there is a period of time of 30 days in which a voter can actually withdraw a signature that under the elections code during that time frame. Also, the Department of Finance has to do an estimate of the cost and submit that estimate of how much an election will cost to the chair of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee. Also, they send that to the governor, the lieutenant governor in the secretary of state. Now there is a provision that says when the governor is being Called the Lieutenant governor steps him and is the recipient and does all of the ministerial parts that the governor would otherwise do. Short answer here, Kristina. This is not a cut and paste deal. I mean, there's not a one size fit off system that they're likely in. This case would have to be a special election right because we're not in an election year correct. And so it's basically up to the secretary of state to start the thing in motion within about 60 days, no more than a 80 days to at least to start to set the rules as to win the actual election would take place. But Dean Moylan also warns there are many costs associated with the recall election, most of its state funded Even if the attempt to remove Governor Newsome fails. There's some interesting questions that come up about that, too, because obviously there's not a lot of time for campaigning for the people who are trying to replace the recall Day officer. But Article two section 18 of the California Constitution gives permission to if the officer is not recalled. So if this recall effort got enough signatures, But if the vote was no, we do not want to recall Governor Newsome. He could actually be reimbursed by the state for his election expenses. So in addition to the cost that the state would have for putting together a special election, which again the Department of Finance would come up with an estimate of how much it would cost, and the Legislature has to fund there could also be caused if it is Failed a town Okay. Special election not cheap when it will happen, not defined. The ball gets going within 60 to 80 days from the secretary of state following mid March. If indeed they have enough signature, it could all be over by summer. It could be It depends on when the secretary of state determines when we should be holding the special election. Then you have a whole bunch of people were going to get in. I mean, there were more than 20. I think when one Schwarznegger one. They had a little bit longer time, though. Okay? Yeah, it's it's ambiguous. Okay, It's not clear cut, but that's how it will roll out. That's what we know now. Okay, well, we'll have to see if they achieved those those markers for signatures by march. All right, let's get outside and check traffic. Now, my noble standing by with more This report is right by El Grove Honda. We have a tree down on Pharaoh's Boulevard. Fishies want both ways. "Also compensation. Know, what I? I have to say most patients that I've seen like this, their demands have been stopped already because a lot of them were tired on chemotherapy I and they progressed chemotherapy and then they're being is therapy so. I have to admit six months ago. I was actually starting them on d-mark preventatively because there was a study that showed. March didn't affect tumor outcomes. My Pot flares can because they can be to discontinuation Hulu by. Scott. Therapy. And then this is what we were talking about how we're constantly changing our practice three months ago or so city came out that said initiating demands at the time of. ICI. Therapy M maybe associated with working responsible. Now we undo that anywhere and again kind of the idea that like the artist blunting the immune response from the ICS. Right. But the same study also showed that if you started d. mark the D- marks, they documented in this study where methotrexate iron. If you started at after initiation of ICI therapy than it did lunch response. So now I sort of I'll let them flair and entry, and then they'll have better tumor response but this is based on one study and the challenges is if a flare so it's all about risk. So if somebody has a history of myositis and their myositis is well controlled and now they have metastatic melanoma. And there say they're on as alive or one hundred milligrams a day while cajoled myositis that patient I probably would not stop there as vibrant of withheld, we continue it. Because to have a fifty percent chance that they're myositis will larry what I start limited their off any gr start the Mata Martin's prophylaxis. No there's no data to do that. In fact, the date suggested Carey said the very limited data suggests notched to do that. But because the risk of flares fifty percent of their underlying autoimmune disease, I would probably not stopping on the same token. If you have a rheumatoid arthritis patient I, think it's less bad player. You know the the problem with myositis flares in these patients is that they can be associated with other. The highest mortality is recorded, which happens with myositis and we don't know if it's the pre-existing disease page the same noble that's the problem but. myositis would not watch clear laboratory titus. I'd be fine to have a flare treat. So we still have to continue allies the riskiness of their underlying rheumatic disease even though of course, like the cancer is. Perhaps, the most important consideration that's perhaps the most fatal thing. The romantic diseases also important we have to adjust therapies he's cases. Fatal there or high risk their diseases, and it also depends on the flurry. Civic rheumatic disease and I was kind of surprised when I was reviewing most improves this neon paper they had like I can't remember seven lupus patients or something only one of the lupus patients flared and it wasn't very mild. Compared to other ones where it's more like fifty percents survey and I probably has to do with underlying mechanism Lupus, which I think is more B. Cell versus cheese out. Activation with. I think we're GONNA learn so much more about this, and it's going to be much more. Disease Drugs Tumor specific. So, maybe, Kaneria will teach us a little bit about those things. So what is Kenro actually working on right now with the pipeline so can. We literally just got our central ethics approval like a month ago. So we're just starting baby network I. Think One of our strengths is that were national network. We have sites all across Canada. I'm very keen people who are interested in collecting this but another big strength is that we've already collaborated with other countries who are doing similar things. So even when we were developing our methodology, what we were collecting, how we're collecting it when we were collecting it, we allied with the a group in France and a group in Australia. So we're collecting similar data prospectively were linking that to bio data. So we're collecting serum DNA. And you know there's talk about collecting sandoval biopsy samples and things like that. Eventually, that's our goal in the coming future. Hopefully, skin biopsies another and we're also trying to start a separate sound protocol so that we can get ultrasound information on these same patients, and then we want to collect that data systematically prospectively and because I think that as Jerry mentioned, it really depends all of this depends on the type of cancer, the type of treatment, the type of the. You know the pheno Tikal there were other autoimmune adverse event an also how they're treated so. Patient get the diverse ticks, patients and expressions of adverse events. The more we're going to be able to answer some questions. So the other, the other Focus Cambio concurrent to the research art is the Education Art Kerry speak more about that. So Janet Robertson I another member of Carrio were putting together. See are right now to try and get some funding to put together a website that will allow us to house a lot of resources and information coming out a cameo, and we also want to build some learning modules that are interactive case taste. For rheumatologists oncologists CONCL- assistance anyone who is looking after patients who have these matic adverse events. I think a huge part of doing research obviously disseminating answer. So we're hoping this is one of the offerings that we can use. Shaheen. If clinicians have patients like this, where should they go for help? So at camera, we are trying to be ugly focused, and one of the strengths of Oh is that we pretty much have a cameo investigator at most of the academic sites across Canada. If you have a patient and you don't know what to do, a Sierra website will have a map of Kenro. So you can find your carrio champion in your area. WHO's interested in patients with dramatic IRA's, and you can either call them for some bone advice or you can refer patients to them. If you don't have a can real investigator, I'm happy to take calls and give you phone advice as our other carryover member service close to you. The other thing that we have are some podcasts that were not case rounds. This is a podcast gas. Out here on a bike them. No matter. What podcast. SATYRICON. Rounds Yeah, we'd like to. We can discuss it offer aren't by we'd love to learn from you guys while so I think that'll be really nice resource for all of us to share information on from each other. So see h you should be coming at unsure will send out announcements. Rosario. That's such a great idea. Thank you guys so much for coming on the PODCAST is really great talking to you. Thank you. "Been pretty much NBA directed last night's game three victory by Toronto in Oakland over the warriors. I don't know why so many people were either surprised or disappointed in the warriors or had excuses. Extra. Missing. Kevin Durant missing Klay Thompson. You don't just take two players of that magnitude out of a team's lineup and not expect them to pay a price did. Yeah. The warriors have a pretty good bench, they'd built it up. Well, and they pick up guys from other teams that come into play for less and car does a good job of mesh, but the bottom line is, they're not gay DNA not clay. So a very good team like the Toronto Raptors and don't kid yourself. And I think they're too many people that are underestimated are undervaluing, the Toronto Raptors, they're going to beat at team of Steph curry and Draymond green and a bunch of role players. That's what the warriors rolled out there last night. That's what they are without their two. Other superstars the warriors are lucky enough to have four superstars and everyone's got their own definition of superstar. There's a line that you draw and there's X amount of soup stars in the league. And then after that come the stars and in after that come the good players and role players. And why are they in the league players Klay Thompson, Draymond green? Steph curry, Kevin Durant, or all the superstar level tab form on the team at once is tough. To believe that they would have favorite coming into the year coming into playoffs, and certainly coming into the NBA final way. They were three more than three to one. Favorite? But Kevin Durant, hadn't played a game yet for three going on over four play game for either Klay. Thompson was a missing piece last night. The gonna get him back for number four. Hopefully close to one hundred percent. Warrior fans take some solace. In the fact that Klay one to play last night. So I don't think it's a stretch. The comes back in for game number four that he's darn close to being one hundred percent. We see it. We got to see him when he gets out there on the floor. So if you wanna make a quick NBA call you can't Brian Kenny from you network is gonna join us coming up in a couple of minutes the NFL's about to get its game five underway. You twin by the blues in game four they wrestle home ice advantage away from the Bruins by taking game two. Then they handed back to them in game three. And I got hammered in game three that wasn't really competitive Bruins or for perfect on the power play earn victory. So it looked like it was the Bruin series. But the blue swat it right? Back to get it to, to, to go back to Boston. For game number five, we do not know yet, if the Bruins are going to be healthy enough on a backline got some injured player. There's grow check and today, no char- who were both going to be gametime decisions. I haven't seen yet. Whether eater is a lineup they're going to drop the puck on that one shortly. But hey to to after five. We're looking at a game seven in my prediction is we're going to game seven in the Stanley Cups as we are in the NBA. I think we're going to full seven between the raptors and the warriors have you wanna make quick copy, call you can or if you wanna get into baseball came down earlier today, one of the two mega free agents, who did not sign? In November, or December the winter meetings or January or February when the camp opened or marches, the cancer ongoing, or by April first and yes, I know the baseball started late March. But by opening day you get. And once we got into may, you got the feeling that neither Dallas kaikal or Craig kimbrough, who's gonna sign until June. Because as Monday you no longer had to both of those players players who are giving free agent tenders and they turned them down by their teams. So that if they signed with another team, the Astros in case, the Red Sox Kimble's case would both be accorded a compensate competitor draft pick, not one by the board Monday when they had MLB draft. So now the teams just had to come up with a figure the play would agree to they could afford to pay. They have to do anything else. It's just. Paying money. There's no compensation, while the first two came off the board. Craig kimbrel goes to the cubs on a three year, forty three million dollar deal. He's gonna get ten million for the rest of this year, and they're gonna try and get him out there and pitching ASAP. He's got sixteen million come in each of the next two years. I know he's getting thirty two. Over the two, I don't know if it's fifteen seventeen or sixteen six don't know the exact actual breakout. I'm assuming it sixteen sixteen the next two years, and it is an option for the year there after for sixteen million, which is vesting. And I don't know the particulars of the best thing, usually, it's tied into number of games, finished or number games pitched in over the course of usually two years. So we'll see if kimbrough's sixteen million dollar option vests for the fourth year of this deal. If there's a minimum of one million dollar buyout. So that goes. Two three and forty three the last year end up in the million dollar buyout to sixteen million. I didn't think he was going to get three years. I really didn't I thought that because it stance teams that take and kudos to his agent. They held in their guide a link d contract lengthy than I thought the money is, is good. It's not outrageous. It's not over the top others have done just as well if not better, but the fact that he said and is not going to be able to jump right in. He's gonna come back at about midway pointed season would be my guess moat teams have played sixty games now. So it's going to take them two weeks to get up to speed minimum, and before he hits real Kimber levels is going to be three weeks, which means San we're looking at the first July, which means the season's going to be half over, but I defended Craig kimbrel big time last year. People got on his case. 'cause he struggled some in the postseason. He wasn't near as dominant in the postseason specifically in the World Series where he did put a lot of guys on basically walked all bunch of guys up until that point. He had a usual Craig kimbrel season and people just overlooked at the only thing they remember about get Greg Gambro was he put a lot of guys on in the World Series. And the other thing everybody forgets is did they lose those games. Did did any of the games that Craig kimbrel came into in the postseason? Did the Red Sox actually lose? I'll answer it for you know they didn't. He got some ugly Fame's. He had to be lifted from game or to the Red Sox win on to win the World Series. Windows games where Kimber wasn't great either. Oh my God. He's not Craig kimbrel anymore. Why would you invest in creek because go back and check the season that he ad-? He was great all season long. So I think this is a massive addition for the cubs. I'm not expecting Craig kimbrel. The hit it'll be funny because this year kimbrel will have a less than stellar regular season. But an outstanding postseason because he's gonna be fresh daisy because he didn't pitch roll these months. So I thought it was excellent signing by the cubs. And there were other teams talking to him the most apprising day, I read today was corden Kenro all Kennedy's buddy from the MLB network. The runner up for the Braves was the raise Tampa was willing to go more per year on a two year contract and crew Kimbrell said, I grabbed the three plus the best thing option where Tampa gonna find the money they, they can't draw flies big on his show up, just to watch Craig kimbrel pitching relief. Now, a lot of credit because they always say in there, they make smart trades. They make good moves. Their manager was good with Madden. Is now. Following right. Madden footsteps. They, they are true success story in baseball that doesn't get enough coverage. But here's the fact, Jack, they don't go to the games down here in Tampa. They don't generate any money in Tampa. They have to work with a lesser payroll today at mega millions. Nobody had mega millions. It's three hundred and fifty million tomorrow night, I'm still in, I got a shot, but they went to the mattresses to find some extra cash raise second choice for credit Kimball. We'll talk about that with Brian Kennedy. He of DMV network..

"Don't forget that Ed Randall is talking baseball. And of course, he'll be here. Of course. That follows the sports edge. It'll be here at nine o'clock this morning. And as always I invite you check out my website and my bog at ask coach wolf dot com. And you can also follow me on Twitter at hashtag ask coach wolf quick reminder secrets of sports psychology revealed. It's now available for sale as an audio book on audible, in fact, I narrate the book, and there was a lot of fun to go back and retrace my thoughts and observations about working with kids in sports psychology against secrets of sports psychology revealed as an audio book, and of course, by the print version on Amazon as well right now, we're talking with coach Bill Muhtar toner, and we're talking about his life in sports, and as he's matured from high school and college ball player basketball player to being now a high school coach for several years at half hollow hills west out Long Island and now he stepped down from that. And you step down Ville how long ago about two years ago. So did it because you felt the Tommy come with with? Three own young kids getting involved in sports, and I can certainly relate to that myself going through the same process when I was coaching. He said okay now Thomas come from me to really focus on on my children who are involved in sports and to be inactive sports parent. I wanna talk to you about that for a few minutes. Tell us about your family, and what they do the kids do in sports. And and how old they are. And everything else. So I have three children. My oldest daughter. Jackie is a eighteen year old senior at manhasset high school. She just finished playing volleyball, and she's gonna continue volleyball career at Catholic university in Washington DC where she's so excited to go. It's a great fit for her, right? My my other daughter is a sophomore at Sacred Heart high school in west Hempstead Courtenay she the bible players. Well, and my son Brendan is in seventh grade he just turned fourteen and he's a basketball player in baseball player. And my wife Kristen gets so much credit for keeping the family together for five months every year during basketball season because my schedule was bananas. It was coming home from work at seven eight o'clock at night having a quick dinner with the family talked to them for an hour. And then go upstairs and watch film or books. There's do stats and I did that for seventeen years and with the success your season gets longer. You know, we we won the county championship in two thousand sixteen and our season ended in March, which you know, I guess that's a good thing. 'cause you're season end. You'll you often allow championship to in high school, but this season just ended. And then at the time I was coaching hills softball, which I still am doing to this day great group of girls this year on softball team. But the next day was the first try, so I'm walking off the basketball court and walking onto softball field. The next day and our athletic director, Deb ferry says to me still take a day off. These girls. I I feel bad. She's like, oh my God. What are you? So anyway, my my wife gets a lot of credit for keeping the family together driving them, the car pools, you know, and and one there was one year where I was coaching three CYO basketball teams and my varsity plume in one winter that was the winter fourteen two thousand fourteen two thousand fifteen and and I was never home and my daughters are starting to get into the high school volleyball seeing and their travel season during the winter. I said it's time to start watching them. I keep my life. Can't do it. All and now, my son is playing basketball, and he's playing on a bunch of teams, and I really want I want to coach him. Yeah. I wanna be around him. He's such a beautiful kid reminds me of my father so much. You know, my dad passed away two years ago, which is one of the reasons why he wrote the book is that you know, I wanted to honor my father and let my children know about my family. But when my dad passed away it was like he never went anywhere. Because my son Glendon is the same person. It's eerie, you know, they say sometimes shooting skips. A generation might have is a great shooter. My son's a great shooter. I couldn't shoot if my life. I think you're being a little modest there. But the you mentioned that that that magic acronym. And I do want to get your thoughts as as a former high school basketball coach, and that was a dad who's evolved in sports with your son playing AAU, Billy what what about you basketball? You know, there's a lot of pros and a lot more const. I think but tell me what your thoughts are about a basketball. I, you know, I'm kinda new to it people always say, oh, you know, this a UT, you know, that I should every year the kids would come back from their eight UC's and it comes to the high school season. There were two things that I had to do with them. The one thing is that my first like month of practice. I wouldn't let them dribble 'cause I'll eighty oh, boy, you wouldn't let them dribble. I wouldn't let them dribble. I would have practices. Design where the bulk and not hit the ground because they were just they would get the ball. And look there's a lot of good that comes out of a if you if you think about the college aspect of the colleges don't come to high schools anymore. They go to they go to a Utah ornaments. Yeah. 'cause it's easier for them. She plays. Yeah. So what are they looking for? They're not looking for kids. Fly down defense. They're looking for kids who can put the ball on the ground gets to the basket and score. So when you do that for six straight months and you come into high school season. You know, you got to kind of break, those hats those habits, I wouldn't let him dribble. The other thing that they didn't do is play defense. There's very few programs that really focus on the defensive side of it because AAU is really a showcase for offensive skills to get to the next level. And there are some good a programs out there. But my son, I put my son with a really great man named Christie Farah who runs his crown basketball, a Long Island, and Chris is a good band because he doesn't everybody's his voice. He's very kid centered. Very player centered. He gets the best out of them. He's a positive reinforcement guy. So as a parent now, I want my children around good people. I want my children around people my daughter's playing my took both of my daughters play for a travel volleyball program called Kelly out of Hoste and the head coach of L. Emily mansard on Emily is a great person. I want them around great people. And that's what you look for as a as a coach whose kids are now playing, you know, it's it's hard for me to let my son play for someone else because I know what it takes to get the next level. And I know what it takes to treat people on the right way. And so far so good. You know, he's been around good people. And and that's the way it's going to be for the future. So for me as a player as a player and then can in coach Annella parent. I want my children around good people, and they're enjoying it. Isn't that? Great to hear my kids are enjoying the sports that are playing right now. And and over. Paul. I think that's the greatest thing can have your for your children. You want them to enjoy it? You know, what you're talking about? Here are pretty much your encapsulating summarizing all the the the the lifestyles of so many sports parents today, if they have more than one child, and you know, yeah. If they don't kids don't drive they have to have somebody asked the car Paloma show firm to practices or two games. And you know, a lot of these games are gonna conflict you get forgotten his schedule in the calendar, which parents go to which game which practice it's hard, and obviously would travel or club teams allow these these programs do last a good chunk of the year. And then you said, you gotta find coaches that you want the great people. So that you feel confident and comfortable as apparent that that your kid is going to benefit from that experience, and that's hard because there's no roadmap is. There's no handbook out there which of the right programs of the best programs. I it's it's Bill all I can tell you is that. Oh, I can I can totally relate having gone through this myself many years ago when my kids are going through it, and it's hard, and I'm sure lots lots of parents who listen to this program this morning can say, yeah. Well, this guy was great great high school basketball coach, and he's trying to the same thing and making sure his own kids. Enjoy the sport as you said your kids, obviously enjoy what they're doing. And at the end, that's pretty much only want our kids to do if we're parents want them to enjoy the experience at one last point. Yeah. The book is allowed me to do speeches now in local neighborhoods. So Rockville centre Saint Agnes parish Rockville centre Long Island, had we speak to their girl. See see why players and their voice you Ida players. And I told my story, and these I've got so much positive reinforcement, and and feedback from those parents saying you just made an imprint on my child is not the best fast. Player. That's what it's all about. That's what this book's all about. And I've been able to go around to different organizations on Long Island and give speeches, and I absolutely love it the athletic director half. I'll hills let me speak to to all the springs spring athletes. It's such a great response. And that's what it's about. It's it's that's such a uplifting. Wonderful book the title, of course, last of the Redman you can go and get her on Amazon or you can go to the website last of the Redmond dot com. It's by Bill, Matale Raton a- who is just just remarkable story, and obviously has done remarkable things with his is high school basketball program, and now with his own kids, Billy on my thanks again and I- Chiro people go out, and as you come speak to their towns and communities, so they can hear it from the horse's mouth because it's a great story. Thank you recommend my biggest fan. I love it. Thanks so much. Thanks bill. We'll talk to Kenro soon. Thank you. You bet that again, the mccower tone a terrific story..

"To come on the news hour shields in Brooks on the dangers of hate speech. A photographer works to capture the past documenting the sights of the underground railroad and much more. It may seem early but the race to take on President Trump is coming into focus. Lisa Desjardins has the latest. I'm running to serve you as president of the United States of America another week another candidate better award is two days into his presidential campaign and has spent both of those days as one dies in Iowa a backbench democratic congressman from El Paso, Texas. A work gained fame for his unorthodox and social media friendly campaigning, speaking directly on Facebook and skateboarding on the trail. He is also a fund raising juggernaut raising eighty million dollars in his Texas Senate race last year mostly from small donors that wasn't enough. And he lost a close three point race to Republican Ted Cruz a moderate and himself a multimillionaire critics question if a award can appeal to enough core democratic voters he is specifically aiming for voters in both parties. Almost show up everywhere. Everyone. Also in Iowa entrepreneur Andrew Yang who this week met the requirement to be included in democratic debates raising money from sixty five thousand different donors. Meanwhile, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders focused south on South Carolina with an event in Charleston last night. Our job is to complete what we started. And we are going to turn our vision and our progressive agenda into reality. We are going to bring Justice to America. And while the race is taking shape. What may be the biggest name remains on the sideline? Former vice president Joe Biden indicated this week in a speech to a firefighters union that he is inclined to take on President Trump. Everybody gets a shot. This was the next president United States these to understand. And that's what I don't think. This current president understands it all in a race with no clear front runner. The former VP leads the wide open pack in these early days. A Monmouth university poll this week found twenty eight percent of democratic voters back Biden with twenty five percent for Sanders. Both are also the two who have run national racist before the top newcomer to presidential politics is Kamla Harris at ten percent in this poll, which gave voters a long list of some twenty three candidates or potential candidates to choose from for the PBS NewsHour. I'm Lisa Desjardins. And that we turn to the analysis of shields, and Brooke that is syndicated columnists. Mark shields. And New York Times columnists David Brooks. Hello to both of you. We're going to get politics in just a moment. But David I want to start with this terrible massacre at two mosques in New Zealand. We just talked to our guests about it. What does it say about? I was going to say about you know, where we are in terms of Tom. What does it say about us as a human race? Right. Well, we're seeing a culture cry in pain, and rage, and alienating a culture that's divided that is isolated where people are lonely committing suicide is high rates and one of the things some lonely people with. Existential angst to do they turned fanatics? And that has been the case all through history. And we're just at a moment of just cultural pain, and you get these horrific outbreaks southerners gentle relatively gentle screaming at each other about politics summit is really bad the suicide and the murder rate, the opium and rain and some of this horrific, which is these mass shootings that we see across western society. And it's just the the definition of our cultural moment, and the thing that Kathleen Balu said, I think is worth repeating that it's a movement, and it used to be a movement or even a terror army was a group of people who had some internal discipline and internal structure and institutions, but now they're radically decentralized webs organized by the internet, and so just because they've never met anybody. Each other doesn't mean they're all part of one thing, and they are part of one sewage fanatical ideas, and what's interesting is how they wink and nod to each other through their statements in the in the internet or through their statements in their manifestos. And so they're quoting this guy was quoting somebody in the guy into Pittsburgh synagogue. And so. That's just a scary form of movement for them. It's all a piece Mark even though they don't have a leader. I mean as as David said, Kathleen blue was saying moment, this is they're all about eliminating everybody who isn't white. Yeah. I agree. And I was struck by Kathleen blues remarks that it's a white power movement in a social groundswell, and I can't help but think that the implication and strengthening of this institution or this movement has occurred through the through the internet. The the idea that if somebody held those beliefs in the past there was almost a sense of isolation because they were so widely unacceptable to most people. But now, you get ratification you get delegation because you can talk to people whether it's somebody who scored after mother Emmanuel AME church in Charleston, the tree of life synagogue and Pittsburgh or in New Zealand yesterday going after Muslims at prayer. It it truly is a worldwide movement. And and it's it's obviously not based on anything other than that that sense of of anger resentment Ilya nation and host it should be the tendency to go after houses of worship is not an accident. Now, it is a form of anti religion. It's a it's a faith or a movement of. And this is not the first time in history that we've had this. And so you get these these war more wars somebody pointed out that when the printing press was first created people thought it would herald in an age of peace because we can all talk to each other through the written word, and we got hundreds of years of religious war. And so open communication can have these horrifically negative effects and rhino Lieber said back in the fifties that existential anxiety, if you don't know what your moral purposes, you turn into a fanatic because this sort of white or black or any kind of racial power movement gives you a very clean. More logic. You know, your purposes in the universe and you have a clear enemy. You can go kill who are human. And so it's it cures. All your identifying because suddenly everything is literally black and white. But you don't really right now. Mark have an effort to to condemn it to to say this is wrong. I mean, it's it's. We all know, we all know, what's wrong. I mean, it is. I mean, but. How do you confront something that is that is almost subterranean? It's not something that we run into most of us in our car polar daily. There was just one moment yesterday on Capitol Hill. When the most powerful democrat in the country, quoted the most popular Republican president of the last century. Just like to read it. And it just said thanks to the quoting this president thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity where nation forever young forever. Bursting with energy and new ideas, always leading the world to the next frontier. If we ever close the door to new of Americans are leadership in the world will soon be lost Ronald Reagan's last speech to the American people and talk. At the at the at the luncheon for the Irish prime minister yesterday Donald Trump's sitting there as she said this. But I mean, wow, I mean, it's just one of those moments. You say we are not who we were. And it's an assertion that. What joins us across is more important that exactly well, we're talking about you, you made the segue to President Trump, and I was gonna ask this in the context David of the the twelve Republicans yesterday in the Senate who went against the president on his emergency declaration on the border. But what has come up in the last day, or so is a comment the president made in an interview with Breitbart news, the the right wing website. And he said, and he he was condemning Democrats and saying they were the left he said, it's tough. But he went on to say, I can tell you. I have the support of the police the support of the military the support of the bikers for Trump. I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough until they go to a certain point. And then it would be very bad, very bad. I'm contrasting that with what President Reagan's Kenro. He left out the Brown shirts. Classic authoritarianism. It's almost Mussolini like I think it's compensation as a friend told me that person friend of Donald Trump's told me that he's terribly afraid of confrontation person, he'll do it over the internet. But he won't do it in person. And so he needs to project toughness, and he admires toughness in the Saudis and Putin in the North Koreans and not as his highest virtue. But it's something of a blustery front, which is typical of beliefs. Reckless beyond belief. Just I can't believe me words matter especially the words of the president. And. He's not talking to Breitbart or any particular group whenever the president speaks. He's speaking to all of us and for all of this. And this was this was criminally reckless admitted it was almost sanctioning condoning any act of violence by one of his supporters armed supporters against the political critic a political opponent saying I understand it. I mean contrast. Just contrast it with the words of Reagan or Kennedy or any other president. I think for summit called a mind what his former lawyer Michael Cohen said not long ago when he said, he wasn't sure. Well, when he was testifying to the congress. He said he wasn't shared with the president would accept the results if he lost the election in close close contest, and he didn't know what would happen. So we will go there another time. But let's come back to twenty twenty what Lisa's report, David better Rourke. He ran a good race in two years ago in two thousand eighteen but he lost to Ted Cruz. And this is a different field, isn't it? Yeah. It's it'll be very interesting there. A lot of things I'm interested in this race. It's very hard to imagine one more fascinating with different angles. One of it is the logical thing that Iraq is let's say geologically unformed. You like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, you know, what their policies are very clear about that. They're laying a lot on that. They didn't work. It's more an Instagram or but at but so there's the. Policy to people are a little more, moderate or informed and people are pretty hardcore. But then there's also the emotional registered difference Sanders and Warren and Harris, they tend to be indignant about what's going wrong in America. An African in the name of the mayor of New York Senator Cory Booker. He's doing love and beta was doing charm, and one of the things that Vado and have in common is that at a time, frankly, when the left can be a little turgid, there's rifle and I happen to think that's a reasonably good formula. But we'll see what the emotional mood of voters in places like New Hampshire, really is love and charm..

California counties conducted point in time counts to figure out who's homeless. And why no count is one hundred percent accurate, but they are a better gauge than many of our own presumptions about homelessness like these. They're not from around here. People just get a job all homeless people are drug addicts for alcoholics, there's nothing I can do to help we've been digging into some of the most common myths and one of them that homeless people in Marin county aren't from Marin. My name is William Newton. I'm from San Rafael born here and rake Kenro Fifty-three Newton was once homeless. Now, he works part time at the Ritter center, a homeless services provider in San Rafael, I asked him why do people think that the homeless in Marin county are outsiders. I would say a lot of these people that I know personally at been here twenty years now, there is a younger generation of kids that are from here. He knew to everybody, but they were born and raised here. And we also do have influx of people like last year we had to fire victims from Santa Rosa, come down. Here. "It is forty two degrees at eight o'clock. Good morning. I'm Joe Bartlett. President Trump still calling for a wall along the southern border making his argument last night in an address from the Oval Office. This is a humanitarian crisis a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul and on the streets of New York this morning, people are also now debating the issue did he make his case the government shutdown is now in its third week night. We get paid a lot of money to figure this stuff out so figured out. But every time we get into situation. I just push it down the road a little further. So let's settle the problem now and stop the nonsense. Democrats. Call wall ineffective and unnecessary won't President Trump says there's a security crisis at the border. He's demanding five billion for this wall. The bully way of doing things if you don't do what I want you to believe until you do that's not the way to do it. We should have a war. All don't you. Protect your home. This is a show by our president. And there's no crisis at the border. I'm Scott Pringle for seven ten double the OR. "You know, the first time I heard your voice, I thought boy this gotta be on radio. I know God is good. God is good. I'm really excited you're on. Thank you. All it in San Diego, California. And unfortunately, people that are conservative minority care, and I'm very close to the border about actually about twenty miles. And everything's changed here. I can't even I could go on and on. But I think she should I don't know why he's hesitating right now. I think it's possibly make an example out of policy factor. She won't even dispatch took another vacation again. That's the only thing I can think that he can declare at national emergency. In fact, I think has been wind declared by Obama and in the past. But we have another fifteen thousand people headed for the Mexican border. I mean, my God the border agents made their case to both Sumer employees. And I I just I don't get it. I really don't. I don't know what he's waiting for me. Well, hang on hang on Catherine tomorrow night tomorrow night. We will know he will address the nation. It's incredible. Thank you for calling Catherine. It's incredible. We're already getting the news that some of the networks may not run his announcement. It's incredible. It's only a rule right now. But some of the national networks who are supposed to be what purveyors of news. I would think that a national address by the most powerful man in the world would be newsworthy. Whether you agree with the content or not it's newsworthy. But they seem to want to resist it that's the level to which the Trump derangement syndrome has risen let's go to line to Dennis in Cleveland. You've got to take on the war. What's your take Dennis? Dr sebastian. I just wanted to tell you I admired you from the moment you were a part of the Trump team. And I'm so proud of the advocacy that you represent I want you to know that there's a lot of above average patriots. Like me that believe in what you're doing. What we need though is to believe in the action plan that's going on. And I firmly support President Trump. I don't know what part of the Democrats mine doesn't understand the practical aspect of protection protecting our borders. I mean, come on. I think the president's got continue to rally and fight for what he believes in on that border security. And and, but but but my real question is how do we rally the above average patriots like me who want to see some change in our country operates? Yeah. Look, I think credit to the swamp anymore. I don't think we have to convince people at you dance. I think very clearly you understand you understand the nature of the problem. Thank you. I mean, who we have to convince the fence sitters or the people who kind of by the narrative of the left that it's the caring thing to do to keep the borders open. And why do people lean sometimes that direction because they think that the empathize approach is the right one to follow because they've been sold this concept of victimhood that there are victims out there. And it's always the victim that must be supported. But what if they're not victims? What if the coyotes what if members of organized crime gangs? What if the terrorists what is that people that are trafficking women into brothels in America illegal ones? That's the empathetic approaches to stop that. So I think we have to use the emotional arguments with truth. On our side to get to the place where we can all be safe. Thank you Dennis. Let's go to line one. Steve Pensacola, Steve. Pleasure to speak with, sir. Thank you. Steve. I have I have a distinct honor vote servant Kenro Alexander Haig, and unfortunately, serving a federal prison with Conrad Black though, my gosh, there's a brain. Yes. Indeed, one point five million new Floridian will be able to vote are registered to vote smart with amendment four hours apart of governor Scott recount team. In Palm Beach realize on Orkney, I made some bad decisions and became involved in the criminal Justice system became a felon. But I'm a Republican, but I don't want people in Florida to automatically assume the Democrats have this vote walked up, and it's up to the GOP and off to get the word out that President Trump is put more towards criminal Justice reform a hundred billion dollars in minority neighborhoods, supporting the military fifty percent, odd almost minority. Low black unemployment, Hispanic unemployment. We the GOP has offered ex-felons on voting skein because we've actually done things to get things done, Jared, Kushner and his leadership. On the first step back. We need to get to the next step. So Tabbara January eight I am sure. The Democrats will be putting people to register US Republicans need to do the same thing. There's many of us out here that made decisions eight or price society paid or fines or recitation and now have a right to vote again. And that is. Thing that you could do and your life when I lost that folks, I could feel it every day of my life. And so yes, we want to be tough on crime. No and XL doesn't want their house broken into or their family are, but yeah. We're losing Steve. Thank you for an incredibly, unique perspective. Thank you for your call. Yeah. Why why would everybody who's gone through that horror? Why would they will be Democrats? I don't know we're going to squeeze in one last call line four James. Can you be as brief as humanly possible? Hello. Yes. James? Who's this? I'm the host of America. First, Sebastian Gorka, Dr. You got thirty seconds share wisdom. You are on on the show. Okay. I think that the issue with the shutdown actually very great because there's a possibility that all of the patriots will stay as as governor employees, and the people that are affected that are not rich just quit. And we met. A more patriotic government. I love it. James? Thanks to the snowflakes are going to melt in the government shutdown. You may be right. Maybe they just go off into the private sector will become high school teachers again, God forbid interesting interesting thought that James we'll see if it lost any longer, but perhaps that will happen. Thank you James, this is Sebastian Gorka. We are here. Taking your calls on eight three three three three G O R K be great. If that's all we did. But but we have to have some guests as well. And I'm very excited about next guest one of the few real journalists out there, and that's Sarah Carter.

What it is fake news? That's what it is the name that was being shared was as of September thirtieth Broward County, Florida had one point one six seven nine eight hundred registered voters. They turned in one point two million ballots. That's one hundred ten percent participation. It was actually sixty one percent. Participation? So even close little off there with math little off. That's what happens when again, you get people who are trying to rank to mislead other people origins, really horrible at math. I I don't know. I want to get the bay county. It probably is that that doesn't just go for politics that goes for life. Okay. So I mean. Little common sense. Here. Here's the issue. That's happening in bay county actually before I I'm gonna tell you what's happening in bay county. But I wanna see if the president hasn't tweeted out about this.
