That's more about preventative in the future. That's something that you would support or is is that NOCCO far enough? What's your thought on some of the bills that are coming up for the session starting? Thursday. Well. We know by State Law The governor has called Special Session and our regular session has already ended any bill that was proposed for regular session have died. Any bill outside of the nine bills governor has brought forward and special session won't even get the chance to be voted on the chance that Republicans had. was actually work with the governor and all this bipartisan and fairly moderate package of a first step to address law enforcement. Form and accountability, and they're passing on that and I. Think. That's unfortunate because that forces the folks that are advocating for change to go even harder to being been louder. to demand through their protests, their efforts to go even bigger and bolder in what they are asking for we have to transform safety in this country and to state, and it can no longer just be accountable to white communities. So it's important that we really get this right that we get a chance to move the ball forward on these basic bills that we were asking for. You know ending colds ending I know not. Warrants, but also standardizing use of force practices and procedures across the state. So no matter where you may get in trouble no matter where there maybe officer that will try to abuse his power or her power that they are held accountable the same president trump's visiting. Kenosha today, we've been talking about it all morning. What are you? What do you? What do you want to hear from him when he addresses the public? What do you want? The president to say and what are your expectations for his trip? I I think the president is going to Kenosha under the wrong tenses. he has fanned the flames of hate. and that has contributed to like the premises being out one for an industry. Actually going on hunting sprees and. Pretty much buddying up with law enforcement. in Kenosha, it's really getting to a dangerous level and I think the president's rhetoric even just yesterday defending. murderer he has ties to white supremacist militias. coming across state borders and shooting killing two and entering another. It's insane. We are in the place that where you're right now but it's the reality. That the president that we have as fanned the flames with ads, millions of dollars in spending trying to demonize protesters who are great Americans. Really. Really or as or yeah. Because he asked you not to come to the city because you just incite people and make it worse because you're the divider in chief also president trump will be headed to Kenosha Wisconsin today to meet with law enforcement despite the governor's opposition what Tommy but they don't want him over there. So why what? They don't want you what is your going over there So we should. That's never. Would as you say if they don't want you over there. Meeting with law and he's meeting with people that want to meet with him. The president is going to Kenosha today to meet with law enforcement despite the governor's opposition and trump will not meet with the family of Jacob Blake. Also, the president refuses to condemn the white seventeen year old who killed two people and injured third during the Kenosha protests. Here we go with that again, I mean two systems of justice in the US. Because they love seventeen year old walked down the street with his. It's really I on what the president said about it too. You know I, mean a lot of people are looking at this. You know he was afraid to lose his life. Look Man. First of all, you don't have the right to take a gun down the street and kill somebody just like police don't for when this president won't. Won't stand up and take a stand on that type of violence. "Conflict between the black lives matter protesters and trump supporters became violent over the past week and I'm just going to run through a bit of a timeline of events. So early, last week Kenosha. Police shot. Jacob Blake a black man repeatedly in the back, which was recorded on video protesters responded many peacefully and some by destroying cars and buildings and throwing fireworks at police. Later in the week, a seventeen year old from Illinois was arrested and charged with several crimes including intentional homicide after he appeared to. Shoot, and kill to protesters and injure another his motives are being investigated but reporting so far shows that he idolized police attended a trump rally and was part of a facebook group that planned to go to. Kenosha. With firearms to protect property, the unrest has since subsided in Kenosha in Portland there have been nightly protests since the killing of George Floyd with some turning destructive launching fireworks and throwing objects at police near downtown courthouse on Saturday night a group of apparent trump supporters drove through downtown portland firing. Guns and pepper spray at protesters around nine PM gunfire erupted and one man was killed. The man's identity hasn't been released at this point at eleven forty, five on Monday morning. But according to reports he was wearing a Patriot prayer hat, which is a far right group in the Portland area. No information has been released about his assailant and we're weeding more reporting and any arrests. So those are some of the key details and over the past week Republicans featured unrest in cities as a prominent part of. Their pitch during their convention and some in the media have speculated that these protests and clashes could hurt Biden standing in the race. So I wanted to discuss what we know and what we don't know about how the public is reacting. Of course we don't have data following the unrest in Canosa and Portland to a large extent because this just happened but what do we know about the public response to the black lives matter protests up until this point and whether or not? It is reshaping the race So what we've seen in the polls like around late May early June. After George Floyd killing in the purchase around that was support for black lives. Matter had been about ten percent pour out meaning like more Americans supported black lives. Meta than opposed abuse gap about ten during the time and like around June sixth that those numbers shifted a lot where you had at some point fifty, six percent of people supported the black lives matter would according to civic polling and only about twenty eight percent or thirty percent disapproved of the black lives matter. But so you get a big increase in support for black lives matter. Decrease in. It but over the last couple of months, those numbers of come back to where now black lives matters. Knit approval is about where it was before George. Floyd zits around. So it was like plus ten much. So lower than plus twenty year plus twenty five in the middle in the early. So black lives matter.

"There's a degree to which. The tumult on the streets of Kenosha sort of taking our gaze away from Jacob Blake himself. What's going on there? He's been in the hospital since he was shot, he said to be paralyzed from the waist down it's been reported. He's handcuffed to his bed. Why is he? A suspect has been charged with a crime and really it's unclear why you'd have to handcuff a paralyzed man in the first place that has come up in a whole lot of discussions. My audience from covering police for the past twenty years is that if they have somebody who is injured while they're being arrested or if they have somebody who is shot or wounded while they're trying to take them into custody on a warrant, then it is pretty much standard operating procedure to handcuff them to bed. I've even heard stories of pregnant women being forced to go into labor and give birth while being shackled to a bed. There was a lot of outcry about this and on. Saturday. Governor Eve irs intervened and I'm told Jacob Lake is now no longer handcuffed to his hospital bed. Wisconsin has an unusual law I think it was one of the first in the country passed after previous killing by the Kenosha. Police. When people are killed by police in Wisconsin and outside agency reviews the case but Jacob Blake was not killed is they're going to be an outside investigation triggered in a case like this one. I it's really interesting that. Our Law which was in fact, the first in the nation was passed largely due to the efforts of a man named Michael Bell whose son was fatally shot in the head by Kenosha police all the way back in two, thousand and four. Michael Bell's son whose name was also Michael. Bell. was shot point blank in the head in front of his mother and sister in their driveway. and. The KENOSHA police internal affairs did their own investigation in within forty eight hours, cleared those officers of any wrongdoing. So that is when Belle's father said. This is ridiculous. How can anybody be expected to do a thorough investigation of their own department? That law is only as you stated for fatal shootings. In other events where somebody is wounded or there's a serious use of police deadly force. If it isn't fatal. The agency involved the police department involved Ken ask and outside. Agencies come in. So in this case, the Wisconsin Department of Justice is leading the investigation and the Kenosha County Sheriff's department. was in charge of the scene of Jacob Lakes shooting that night. So I do think that that is one thing that Kenosha police did right in these circumstances is as soon as that shooting happened. They decided we're not investigating ourselves and they called in the sheriff's department and the state US -partment. Kenosha city that's according to the Census Bureau about seventy seven percent white about ten percent black. it's not one of these places that has A. Very large minority presence that's created the kind of tensions that you see. In nearby cities in Illinois and in Wisconsin itself that absolutely true and I think one thing that people need to know about the shooting of Jacob Blake and people need to know about what's going on with policing in Kenosha. Is. That since two, thousand four. The police have not had a great relationship with basically anyone in Kenosha Michael Bell who I referenced earlier who was shot in the head and killed in two thousand four was white. And Our Review of fatal police shootings in Kenosha since then show that the majority of the people that police have fatally shot are white also. We know of one black man has been fatally shot in Kenosha since two thousand three but it seems to me that the police in Kenosha don't have a great relationship with. People of any race, is it too early to tell where we are in the life cycle of this story but are things calming down a likely to start peak again when Kyle Rittenhouse goes to court later in September there are still a lot of questions about police and their behavior during this week. Where are we? I wish we knew. It seemed as if after the shootings on Tuesday. Things started coming down. There were fewer people out Wednesday night and a lot fewer. White militia tight men with big guns roaming around Kenosha. What some of. US are concerned about is that president trump has said he is planning to come to Kenosha this week on. Tuesday. And I think if he actually does choose to make that visit. That could incite things again and we could see this cycle continuing and repeating itself. You're given the way these things have gone in recent weeks. I guess the pros and the aunties would have a lot of reason to be out definitely. SORTA the courthouse is literally on fire on fire now is the Kenosha county courthouse? This conflict and chaos has been heightened by so-called. Members who say they're trying to protect life and property in Kenosha in does you can see them walking around the city armed? I think. The more guns that are in a volatile situation, the more likely it is that someone's going to be seriously hurt and that is what we saw on Tuesday. When a seventeen year old who? Considered himself. Some sort of militia member ended up shooting three people, two of them fatally. "Gina I imagine a lot of people are hearing about Kenosha Wisconsin for the first time because Lebron James is talking about it because Mike, Pence is talking about because of what happened to Jacob Blake and what Kyle Rittenhouse did what do people need to know about Kenosha to really understand what happened there this week? I think people should know that Kenosha has a long history of problems between the police and the citizens. But unlike Milwaukee Baltimore. MINEAPOLIS. Some of the other big cities where these sorts of shootings have happened. I don't think race is necessarily the only factor at play in. Kenosha. In Milwaukee, for example, white people tend to have a pretty good relationship with the police and black people don't. In Kenosha. No one has a good relationship with the police. In Wisconsin, we were the first state to pass a law that required outside investigation of police shootings. So the agency where the officers employed can't do the investigation of fatal police shooting. And that happened because in two thousand four. The. Kenosha police. Shot a young man named Michael Bell. Point blank in the head. Michael Bell was white back. Then police departments could investigate their own. Involved shootings Vet Kenosha police department over there investigated themselves and in two days the coworkers of the men that killed my son found the shooting was justified. That's not enough time to do an investigation. At all? And of the five shootings that we are aware of. Since that time three were white. One was black and the other we don't know. Those are fatal shootings and another incident that escalated the focus on police brutality here in Wisconsin was in two thousand sixteen when the Milwaukee police shot and killed a man named Seville Smith Seville Smith was shot and killed by an officer follow what police say was a traffic stop in a foot chase, and at that point, we had a lot of violent demonstrations and civil unrest in Milwaukee with buildings being burned and bricks being thrown confrontations between police and members of the public. So, there haven't been. Effective reforms of this police department since the early two thousand. As far as I can tell. There have not been effective reforms that the police department. How did they handle? Jacob Lakes shooting to their credit they called in the Wisconsin Department of Justice to do the investigation immediately. So I see that as an improvement, they're trying to be more transparent. They're saying we're going to hand this off to somebody with more expertise than us in investigating these kinds of officer involved shootings. So I do think that was a positive thing. The issue that continues to present itself though is I think all of these protests have shown. that. Citizens. Want transparency right they want to know what's happening. and. If bystanders had not recorded video. We might never know what happened to Jacob Blake people might. Believe the police version of events or not believe it but have no credibility to back up. The Disbelief Finally. Three days after Jacob. Lake was shot the Wisconsin Department of Justice released the name of the officer involved. And confirmed that Jacob Blake had been teased was shot and that there was a knife on the floorboard of his car. Does all the extra attention on Kenosha. Right now does the fact that you know Multiple Sports Leagues Are Postponing Games and athletes are making statements does that greater scrutiny mean Kenosha Wisconsin take reform a little more seriously. I. Have Hope. That this shooting and everything that's happened since. Could possibly bring about some substantive changes in Kenosha and in the state of Wisconsin. One issue that we've had here as in many other places is the partisan divide. So for a long time, we had Republicans in charge of both chambers of the legislature and in the governor's mansion. And they were not necessarily inclined to institute a lot. Of. Police reforms. Now. We have a democratic governor. And we have A. Group of Republican legislators who are also seeing that change is necessary. So on Wednesday. A set of bills to reform, policing and police accountability was unveiled here in Wisconsin. We'll see how far it gets. and unlike so many of these cases that we're used to seeing including George Floyd include Brianna Taylor including Ahmad Armory. Jacob Blake actually be around to advocate for himself and for change. Jacob Lake is expected to survive and his family has already come out with some really strong statements about how unhappy he would be with all the violence that's occurring and his mother made some really strong statements. The other day about how if people will just focus on each other's humanity things will change. We are the United States have we been united? You understand what's going to happen. When we fall because. House did against each other cannot stand..

"Kenosha Wisconsin is about halfway between Milwaukee and Chicago, and for a while it was a pretty booming industrial town. But now it's considered more of a Chicago suburb. This is Gina Barton she's been covering Kenosha for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Around five o'clock on Sunday the police got a call about a domestic incident in Kenosha and they responded and they found some sort of disturbance that involved Jacob Blake and some women. It's not clear exactly. What was happening some onlookers have told us that he was actually trying to break up a fight between the women. At some point, he became involved in a scuffle with police officers who used a teaser on him. We found out recently and. It was not effective. So then we've all seen this video of Jacob Lake standing up walking kind of slowly around the front of his car and opening the door to get in. His three children were inside. He opens the car door. With his back to the officers. One of them grabs him by the shirt and shoots him seven times point blank in the back. He falls down onto the steering wheel and the horns starts blaring and people start screaming. Dodgers. The police call for Medical Assistance and Jacob Blake is airlifted by helicopter to the hospital. Put into surgery about twenty four hours. Later, the news comes out that he has in fact survived and is expected to be paralyzed from the waist down. And within hours mass gatherings of demonstrators and protesters are starting to take to the streets and Kenosha. By the time the sun goes down on Sunday. There are hundreds of people who've taken to the streets and the unrest escalates to fires being set windows being broken and entire. Karla was set on fire that first night. The protests continued on Monday night, and that's when things started getting worse in terms of property destruction. After dark, there were several businesses that were burned in two different neighborhoods of Kenosha, the National Guard was called out so that night there were one, hundred, twenty, five troops and. By Tuesday morning are state officials had realized that that was not enough. So on Tuesday night there were Two hundred and fifty National Guard troops, as well as a huge police and sheriff's department. and. Equally as many protesters or maybe not quite as many but the thing with the protesters was. They weren't all in the same place and I think that is when. The situation became difficult to control. The line of officers marched into the park where the main protests had occurred. Drove, everyone out of the park relatively easily. But then once they had left the park. It seemed as if law enforcement have a plan of where the people should go next. Ordering them to disperse but then when people didn't. They didn't know what to do. The other issue that we've had at these protests, not this week but also summer. Is Armed civilians some of them officially calling themselves militias, some of them calling themselves other things the the boo-boys the Kenosha. Guard. have been coming in to the protests they're saying to help, preserve, order and protect businesses and protect people's safety. The KENOSHA guard in fact, wanted to team up with the police and had asked the police and sheriff's Department Hey why don't you deputise us so we can help you and the Sheriff said his response to that was Oh hell no. But. In any case. The police were not arresting these men with guns on curfew violations. They weren't trying to clear them from the area, and in fact, a lot of people now have seen this video where. Sheriff's deputies from Kenosha we're giving water to some of these armed militia members and in fact saying we really appreciate your help. One of these armed citizens who turned out to be a seventeen year old from Illinois named Kyle Rittenhouse. He shot a man in the head and that man falls to the ground and dies. We're not exactly sure what prompted Kyle Rittenhouse to start shooting. What we know is that then rittenhouse starts running. At some point. He. Trips. And he's on the ground and two other people were trying to disarm him. He. Fired at both of those people hitting one of them in the chest and abdomen area and killing him, and then the other man was shot in the arm. At one point in this video, you can see him walking with his hands up and the bystanders are trying to tell the cops. He just shot some people. That's him. He's the guy. And the police who are coming in the people in armored vehicles don't seem to hear don't seem to realize. And then. The shooter just walks away. He ends up back home. And he is arrested the following day authorities announced the arrest of seventeen year old Kyle Rittenhouse of Antioch. Illinois in connection with the fatal shooting of two people a twenty six year old from Silver Lake and a thirty six year old from Kenosha a twenty, six year old from West. I think this is what a lot of people struggle with right it's that. You watch a video of an unarmed Jacob Blake surrounded by family members trying to get into his suv worst kids are he gets shot seven times in the back. Then you watch this kid walking down the street with a semiautomatic rifle everyone screaming pointing he just shot people. He just killed two people and he just walks by multiple police vehicles and and cruisers and. Eventually goes home and goes to sleep. The Sheriff in Kenosha did address that question yesterday. How did they just let this guy walk away And I think there were two things at play here. One is. When you have a lot of. White men walking around with guns People get used to seeing them and to thinking like Oh. That's just the militia guys you.

"There's a lot of worry right now in Kenosha among people who've been out here night after night been trying to bring attention to the issue of police brutality. How does this change the debate? How is it going to be manipulated? Politically, you have the Republican National Convention happening this week right President Trump said that he was going to send in federal troops to Kenosha. The governor of the state said that he was going to send five hundred additional national. Guardsmen. Does all of this muddy the message somehow and I? Think that's one thing that a lot of people here are grappling with at the moment. Until, you're talking about the message that will emerge from Kenosha, and it strikes me that one of the things that's different in this case. Regardless of what images come to dominate how people see what's happened there is the person at the center of this case is still alive. He's sitting in a hospital and while he may not. What he represents to the world presumably, he will eventually understand it and he will be drawn into the way that the story is being told he will talk about it and so he will be a living symbol unlike George Floyd unlike Brianna Taylor unlike. Rashard. Brooks. Of the things that makes this. The so unique. This whole week, the city of Kenosha has been turned inside out over this shooting. But. We have not yet heard from the man who is like you said in a hospital bed and We, don't know yet. What he thinks about all of this, we don't know yet what he has to say about it how he'll choose to participate in at and in the end, it will be his story.

"Tuesday afternoon Jacob Lakes family announced that they were going to hold a news conference outside of the courthouse. So around three PM I'm outside of the courthouse with a bunch of other reporters long line of TV cameras and the family of Jacob. Blake arrives. Some of them were crying clutching each other. You know obviously, very emotional. I'd like to. Thank. Everyone. For coming out. The support of my son? Would this senseless attempted murder that was committed on. When Jacob Blake senior stepped forward. They. Son He almost couldn't speak. Six Seven Times. Seven. He didn't matter. But my son matters. He's a human being any better. And then we heard from Julia Jackson Jacob Lakes mother as I was writing through here. Through the city. I noticed a lot of damage. It doesn't reflect my son. Or my family. She mentioned the damage that she'd been seen around Kenosha and she spoke very powerfully of reconciliation. Do Shakeup. Justice on this level and examine. Your. Heart. We need healing. And then we heard from one of his sisters. So many people have reached out to me. Selling me their sorry that this happened to my family. Well don't be sorry. Because this has been happening to my family for a long time. Longer than I can account for. It happened to Emmett to him until my family. For lead though Mike Brown. Sandra. This has been happening to my family and I shared tears for every single one of these people that has happened to. This is nothing new. I'm not sad. I'm not. Sorry. I'm angry. And I'm tired. I think that she just really wanted people to two year that and understand that this was baker than her brother. and. What are the say about? Jacob Lakes condition you know for the last two days people who'd been asking how is he doing? Is he going to survive this? When at least seven as many as eight bullets from point, blank range entered the human body. And shred through the tissue of the human body. They went to a lot of detail about what he was experiencing physically that can cause and didn't this case. Severe. And likely permanent injury. He had a bullet. Go through some or all of his spinal cord. One of the bullets had severed his spinal cord, which doctors believed would paralyze partially probably permanently, they said that it would take a miracle for him to walk again. He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon. And small intestines removed. They really wanted to drive home the physicality of that of the suffering that he is enduring and they wanted to really put those facts out there and not hide them Jacob Pez a long road ahead of. A lot of rehabilitation you heard he's in surgery right now it's not going to be his last. They also said that he has been awake. He was conscious. One of the questions from reporters was. What does he think of health this? He does not know what's going on. The answer from the family was really he doesn't understand that this is going on he's heavily medicated. He's you know a lot of pain that he was still fighting for his life. There is no idea. In the condition he's in that he has become. A symbol for powerful symbol appears not it appears that he is largely unaware of everything that's happening the first thing he did when he looked at me was cried and then begin to say I'm sorry about all of this. I, asked him Jacob did you shoot yourself in the back? He looked at me and he said. Said then why are you? Sorry He says because I don't want a burden on anybody I want to be with my children and I don't think I'm going to walk again mom..

"He's roughly in the same spot he was in for years ago versus Hillary Clinton matter. Of fact, there was a real clear politics had behind nine points the other day, which is roughly where he was at the same time against Hillary Clinton in national polls don't mean really anything and there's a there's something else going on in this race or couple of other dynamics. The first is trump people are much more enthusiastic about him the Joe. Biden, which is a very important thing. When it comes to polling, and if you do a battleground analysis, you could still say trump is behind in some states that he won last time I. think that's a very fair statement but I think within this whole context of the virus as you bring up the economic shutdown but most specifically race riots going on around. The country I think it does mean that down trump will under pull even more this time than he did for years ago. So Joe Biden is going to think he's doing better in the polls all the way up until election day and I think Donald Trump once again over perform on election day because people are simply not going to tell people like you guys that they're voting for Donald Trump. If the next answer the question is why do you support you a non or why are you? Trying to build racial animosity people are not going to answer questions. Assess the race right now you say you don't believe the president is behind as the polls show, but it is behind every battleground state poll shows he's behind what? Did Mike, are you saying he's behind it. Every battleground state because that's clearly not right. Well, I mean he's behind in in Florida Michigan. Wisconsin pull out today. CNBC has biden up by five points. North. Carolina see. I'd apply one hour Zona by up do so in the battleground states in Michigan Biden by. sizable amount I'm happy I'm happy I can pull up. These polls in these states, there's other polls that give a much better view I. Think what you've just described is rough parody biden in trump roughly tied almost all the major battleground states which I think comports to what I'm saying which is if it's true that there's an under vote for trump again, he's GonNa. Lose the net he likes loses the national popular vote just like he did the Hillary Clinton but I think almost three percentage points because of ballot harvesting in some of these changes in California New York and other states my guess is he Could lose that popular vote by more than three and still become get a second term as our president. So once again, these national polls, it doesn't really tell you what's going on. If you look at these battleground state polls, he's definitely in the hunt and I think he's underperforming in the polls that you're looking at. So tells me he's in a really good position. What's the winning issue for the president in your view the winning issue I think the most important issue I think Dana questions a good question about the fact that the viruses Kinda. Front. On the mind of everybody everybody's concerned about it. I don't want to minimize the concern. It's a serious virus. I have an eight year old mom and to in laws that are in the same age air we worry about them and I think the question is, who's the right person to keep us safe as China did unleash this on us and the world who's the right person? To keep us safe and who's the right person to get us back to that vibrant economy we had not so long ago where we had the lowest African American unemployment rate where people felt much better about the country in about their economic future they any moment during the Obama Administration who's the right person to get us back there that's the deal that Donald Trump has to has to close. Those voters made up their mind in those voters. We haven't made up their mind and these polls that you were just mentioning Mike One of the benefits. The president has is that they're they feel more positive about trump and Biden? Those folks who are still undecided, but he's got to close the deal with people that don't love everything about him. Just that they feel like his policies get to a better place. Okay I got one last question you worked for George W Bush worked on his his presidential campaign. You were his political director. In the White House, a close advisor to him. He is not participating in this convention. He has not endorsed your party's nominee Donald trump. He hasn't even issued a statement that support of Donald, trump? Why do you think that is and are you disappointed? Yes, I'm disappointed I think a lot of Republicans. Endorsed President Bush forty one and President Bush. Forty three even when they didn't agree with them on everything Bush forty one had primaries right and people rallied around him when he was the nominee and I think that's what party regulars should do. And I also know that there's animosity between the two president trump in Bush trump has had some rough things to say about the Bush family too. So I understand. A Son wanting to defend his dad in dad wanting to defend his son but I think you care about the country and I know he does. But I think that when you see the socialist agenda that's being put four or by the Democratic Party. I. Think you can get past some of your personal animosity and support the president especially when you see what the Democrats want to do to the policy legacy. That you care about now one of the things I love about President George. W Bush like his dad is when he exited the stage, you really exited. The only thing that frustrates me is when they do get back on the stage, they do seem to want to say awfully nice things about Obama or bill, Clinton and and I see this relationship between George W Bush forty three and Michelle Obama. So all I would say is that if you're off get completely off, you're going to pop back in from time to time to have mild chastisement trump I don't think it's helpful to this cause of trying to unite the country again, and the great thing for trump is because he ran really our second outsider President George Washington being the first in my opinion. People can quibble with me, Donald Trump as a Jew, outsider every time these establishment Republicans attack him, Susan Molinari who's a friend of mine speaking at the Democratic Convention whatever this thing is George Conway thinks he is accomplished or bill kristol thinks is accomplished. They're not hurting trump. They're helping trump because to the guy that gets up the the man or woman who gets up early to the alarm clock every day and works really hard dirties their hands in their uniform. they don't really care that These elites have their feelings hurt with the care about is having to feed their family. How are they going to give their kids a better life and? Next to them on those policies, and that's the question for Joe Biden can connect to those voters he doesn't he won't win. The Lincoln Project ADS are. Helping Biden and hurting trump. Well. I think it's interesting because they're on Fox a lot. Obviously I appear on Fox and I watch a lot of. News. I think what? The Lincoln shouldn't say this because a lot of people listen to your very good podcast but I think the Lincoln project is so infuriating Republicans around the country who have never been. So unified conservatives Republicans have never been behind a nominee at the level they're behind Donald Trump and they watch these ads and they go crazy now I, think some of the stuff they done has been..

"What do they mean when they said that Mike? Well, by the book means that they didn't want the President Susan Rice was saying the president was not going to get involved in telling the FBI what to do that's not right. You don't do a counterintelligence investigation for anybody other than the president they did that for the President No, you can say, okay can i. just say you guys aren't going to agree and you guys have you made your points and I wanNA move. So glad to say let's move on. Let's out here on the record. Clear that literally Mike is a cough doesn't think the Obama team did anything wrong when he? Stored at what I said. Is Editor and and said I'm going to write that story. I would've said based on what where is the reporting? Where is the evidence? You don't have any. So I did this person plea Mr Clients Smith, why did he plea because? Email Matt there can be abuses by the FBI that doesn't mean that the president of the United States was directing them just as our. President of the United States is the only one who can start and oversee a counter intelligence investigation from the FBI you know this Mike I'm asking us to say. That was probably to watch I g of the Justice Department has documented. By the FBI it has shown. No, there was no evidence presented the not wrong. We don't have a lot of time we are moving odd and that I just want to come back to black lives matter for one more beat on this you obviously have been publicly critical of the group you on twitter you talked about its various progressive goals, hostile families, capitalism cops, unborn life, which has got you into a bit of trouble. You lost some lobbying clients as a result of this. Including I should note verizon which owns Yahoo, our new site were you a victim of cancel culture here? Yeah. Clearly and IP ironic that bill bar was the general counsel of Horizon for twenty years. He served on their border directors You know he's the account that I follow to cut of know what the federal responses to these this lawlessness and the riots and the murders and the fires and arson. In these cities and just shows you how far things have changed. You used the word progressive. I would probably quit with that Mike I don't think that black lives matter incorporated as a progressive group. Because the founders of black lives, matter call themselves Marxist and they WANNA. Revolution in America and I don't and. Yet you. With every breath in my body. Back. But what you wrote is and this happened because many corporate boards are infected with leftists. Do. You really believe that the Corporate Board of Verizon and a lot of other big companies that have dropped you like Abbott laboratories are secret Marxists who want to turn the American economy into a communist country really believe that no, and that's not what I said and I don't want to talk about any specific company or specific companies board. I. Will Happy to answer generally which is. The fact that these companies rely on conservatives. And Republicans in office to pass tax and regulatory policy to confirm judges who don't want to meddle in every little regulatory question in our economy, they rely on these Republicans and Conservatives. The policies that they need their PAC contributions to republicans who advocate for free market less regulations last taxation. Yet their communication arm of their company embraces the radicalism of groups like black lives matter incorporated. Some of them give philanthropy to planned parenthood. You see them embracing too many groups the southern. Poverty Law Center. is another one that comes to mind you see these corporations which are about making money essentially, Mike and selling products at the cheapest cost that they possibly can many than doing business to get cut rates in China, you see them doing business in these places and. Excuse me. You see them politically trying to get the benefit right of this kind of virtue shaming, and so maybe it's because they don't want to get attacked by these groups maybe because a CEO who is not a person of color wants to try to keep the criticism that there's not more diversity in the in the boardroom and in the C. Suite at bay, I don't know but I also think the boards of too many companies. Don't reflect the political reality which is in order to be profitable. Most of these companies do better when Republicans win elective office and have a majority in the house in the Senate most of these companies did much better under president trump's policies and they loved his tax cut plan. But yet they have trouble embracing that reality with the people they hire to do their communication strategies. I think it's hypocrisy I think some have been called out on it. If. A company doesn't WanNa hire me they don't have to hire me they shouldn't call me a racist. But they don't have to hire me. All right I want to move on to the other really big story that has consumed all of us. We are all living through a pandemic. How big a factor? Do you believe the coronavirus has been in this campaign and do you believe it is hurting donald trump or helping donald trump the virus yeah. You know I think what's interesting is I think Donald Trump is running against the virus in Joe Biden is running with the virus and by that I. Don't mean that Biden is happy. The viruses here I'm sure everybody hates this scourge as the president calls it, but Biden commercials are just the major theme is the virus. It's Joe Biden mostly in it a mask behind a mask even though he doesn't have corona virus and he doesn't interact with people these seems to be He's the ultimate example of being socially distant and he runs on this theme that the president's responsible for nearly one hundred and eighty thousand. American deaths. Most honest people believe that's a low blow. You can disagree with some of the President's policies. But certainly, the president isn't the one who unleashed this virus on the world I think it's a low blow for Republicans to blame governors, Murphy, Newsom, and Cuomo just to name three for the terrible decisions they made that resulted in a lot of deaths in our senior population because they put sick people in their homes. I don't think they did that because they were trying to kill people they just made a mistake tragic mistake. And we've learned a lot as this virus has run roughshod over this country and the globe, and it's a tragedy that so many people have died. It's obviously very fairly virus for people who are older and people who have underlying health problems and. That I mean poll after poll after poll show that a sizeable majority of Americans believe that Donald Trump has not handled this virus well, isn't that part of the reason that he is far behind his years in the polls nationally, and that is approval ratings or as low as they are right now I don't think his approval ratings are low and I don't think he's behind much nationally I think you're making the mistake that was made for years ago and I'll just remind you and I read a I read almost all these polls..

"I think service can agree on this that that's not going to be helpful and so no I will call out and Marxism has never worked anywhere for anyone at any time. It makes people pour in sicker and highlights animosities and I'll fight that. Okay. But Matt, I started out the question citing the shooting of Jake. Blake in Wisconsin a Guy African Americans shot in the back repeatedly by police. Were you argue horrified by that what went through your mind when you saw that video. It's terrible video to watch. It's similar to watching the George Floyd video which I think I watched once because it's just to. Support it's you know it's It's a really tough thing to watch, and this is not a loved one mine I can't imagine for his family members I. Watched the press conference live I watched his mother I. Think Her name was Mrs Jack Is. missus Jackson. Julia. Jackson what an amazing. Graceful Person I'm your son gets shot I think it's seven times Mike in it's true from behind. And she basically has this message that what was done to her son. She believes to be a terrible thing. But. We have to figure out a way to work together even when she literally sat even when our hands are different colors, the riots, the murderers, the violence, the lawlessness that has come about. After this shooting in after what I clearly was the murderer of George. Floyd. People keep saying it's understandable but the problem with the violence is turning very communities people of Color. WHO This group seems to act like they want to improve their lives and I don't see that I. Think it's incumbent upon Joe Biden, it's incumbent upon other political leaders who think that they have the mantle representing these voters to encourage people to stop breaking the law. The violence isn't GonNa make anything better and you know Joe Biden but he he could even just think about himself elect me to be your president. Now I will work with these communities make them better but I think they've been quiet and I think maybe you can find some examples where they say that the violence shouldn't happen. I think it's very muted. It's too muted. I think the politics of this will be terrible for them but more importantly that it's Be a moment where Republicans and Democrats can come together and work on something or this what we do criminal justice reform and I think Joe Biden and the Democrats are missing it I think the American. People are really worried when they see these major cities on fire Matt speaking of the violence I'm actually just seeing a notification on my phone that a seventeen year old white Illinois man was. Arrested in the deadly shootings in Kenosha last night, apparently with some ties to militia groups. So there is pretty terrible violence being perpetrated against protestors in Kenosha. But what I wanted to ask you is I did not hear you talked about the Biden campaign and and their silence and what they need I didn't hear the a lot of people talking about Kenosha at the convention last night I mean. I saw a lot of speakers from Wisconsin which is a state that the trump campaign is targeting, but I didn't hear Kenosha other I don't know maybe the first lady but I didn't hear it. What why not and what should what should the Republicans at the convention tonight be saying about Kenosha? Well, I don't I wouldn't encourage anybody to be definitive about what happened with the shooting. I don't know the facts. I saw the video, the video group, Mike Watch the video, and a terrific to watch I listened to the press conference of the families there's going to be a co a thorough investigation and there should be in might be appropriate for this to be a federal investigation and I think if The. Cops are guilty of doing something wrong I. Think they should throw the book at them. As the same thing they're doing with George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis but but the other side of this is if we justify the islands in the riots even if those are cases of murder and police brutality and more serious crimes by the hands of police officers, it is immoral repugnant to somehow chastise all cops. When the vast overwhelming majority of cops help protect us in a very dangerous way every day I think the Democrats are making a big mistake in embracing the agenda of black lives matter INC which number one target goal is to defend the cops and I think the president is right to say we need law and order We also need police reform and we also have to hold cops accountable I don't think this is that complicated to understand and I don't know why Biden is. So muted on calling out, you know you see the victims of the violence in the streets of. Chicago you bring up Wisconsin what we've seen in New York City and across this country that is not helping people of color and we should have a calming. of justifying riots mistake. Let me just follow up on. You mentioned defunding the police last night and I before over and over again speakers at the Republican. Convention either suggested or outright asserted that Joe Biden support defunding the police yes. Eric Trump said Biden has pledged to defend the police. You're us that that is not true by Biden. Biden has said quote he told CBS News I don't support defunding police wind has proposed proposed. Three hundred million dollars for the COPS program that's to bolster community policing in these communities. So that's just not true Daniel. This is why people have stopped engaging in this idea that the media is going to call it square fair and square black lives matter believes in seven or eight things all of them are repugnant to me. You know getting rid of the family, the idea that we have to have abortion on demand. Let me. Ever. Getting rid of. What are you finish? It's all on their website and be happy to sit down there with your computer aucune through. But don't cover don't cover for this. You're better than that. This is something that they what they espouse very extreme views and the first thing that they espouse is defunding the cops you watch the Democratic convention you couldn't go through eighty minutes without the black fist. Without the speaker fully supporting the black lives, Matter Inc. but my questions about bite finish and Joe Biden has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't want to de-fund the cops. He simply wants to take funding away from cops. Now, you can play a word game whether that means de-fund or less funds or but you can't embrace black lives matter incorporated whose most important rallying policy goal is to do everything they can to harm the police and then on the same side say, Hey, I'm for the cops it's why simply the American people this is double talk we know trump's it's so. There's the group you're citing black lives matter coalition but there are many others if not millions who have marched under the banner of black lives matter because they're genuinely outraged at what happened to George Floyd, what happened to Jacob Flake? What happened to Brianna Taylor and others into love WHO's out there protesting and chanting black lives matter suggesting they want to do away with families capitalism you know it just seems like. You're treating. People that they don't really old but you're a journalist you'll have to cover for them. It's on their website you don't have. The Don't ask me questions about what they agreed. They wrote it out. I'm just saying I disagree with that. Are you saying good people who don't believe in that Marxist crap but just basically want racial harmony march absolutely I would agree with you millionaire. Much. Black lives matter is a broad movement. You're you are pointing to one particular not no no I'm talking about the very way. It's all funded I'm talking about how these prophets operate. But even if even if the only policy goal you truly can understand is the fund movement. It's wrong of you to say I can support the group that's pushing the defunding of. Cops Movement. And at the same time, say to someone like Joe Biden, he doesn't want to defend the cops. You don't get to have it both ways by the way if you're against abortion, you're not also for abortion right? You don't get to have it..
