Hope Springs Eternal From the Ashes of History

"Now I want to go back to the very beginning of the book and probably the greatest insight for us looking forward to the competition with China, which is underway on page 83. This is set in 1939. And then 41. The gigantic struggle for the United States that began with the Attack on Pearl Harbor and ended with the dropping of the atomic bomb was different from any other major war in history. Different in its dimensions and topography, different in the weapon systems and support systems, carry air power, landing craft, fleet trains, then emerged to be war winning ones, different even in the sort of fighting units, the Marine Corps, the seabees, that would have to be put together. It was geography that the country emerging bacteria here would have to become a special sort of maritime power. The combatant that understood that first and better would be the Victor. So everything had changed from World War II to 1941, doctor Kenny, have they changed again from 1945 to 2022. Yes, indeed. First of all, the basic the basic strategic position that the United States is the is still despite deficiencies in the center of the western military economic order remains, but the it changes because of newer technology, which may be coming so fast that nowadays we don't really realize the dimensions of it or how we have to respond to it. It changes because we are probably not going to think again over huge, huge American military reinforcement of 2 million plus men to the European theater and 3 million plus men to the Pacific theater. It may have gone up into the sky to the ESA and yet we still need to be have the basic ship systems and weapon systems growing across the Atlantic and the Pacific for this for this year of 2022 onwards into the middle of the century.

The Flip Side of the Recording Industry w/ Rob Hatch and Lance Miller

"Flip side that the recording industry, the labels and everybody else, you know, there's been the upsurge in but yet the very, it's almost like it's really interesting and I want to see if I've thought about this. I want to see if y'all agree. It's almost like a farmer who has a full load of corn, but didn't plant any corn in the field as much to get the corn. The song rotting was at least the planning in the field, the corn is going to the market. And if you don't have people planting that corn, pretty soon that truck is going to be pretty dry. And right now, it's pretty good because there's still people turning out. That's the concern that I had in the creative side. When I really first got involved with, you started to see that the less and less songwriters who could stay active, you know, it's really affecting the talent who are performing. It's really interesting you say that because you brought up George Strait and a lot of the community, I hear young artists talking about man Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, they can pick great songs, of course, Kenny is a great rider too, but, you know, it's going to take, I don't know, it's going to take a miracle to turn some of these things around to make it these artists or some of the younger artists that say they want great songs are going to have to really put their money where their mouth is and go out and try to find those songs because they're out there, whether we wrote them or whoever wrote them, but they're back catalogs to all these publishing companies and, you know, there's so many things that's changed the quality a little bit with TikTok and all that kind of stuff. You know, but radio still is king in our business for now in terms of that on time we're making any real dollars, you know, the rest of the time it's just sort of a living, which is fine, but you know these artists really need to put their money where their mouth is back up the song riding community or you're right. Is Chet Holmgren 'Too Skinny For The NBA'?

"Big part of why I wanted to go to summer league was I wanted to see my man share at home grid as I explained to you before, skinny boys need heroes and I hope that he can turn out to be the hero and as you know, I enjoy seeing these young caucasians who get themselves radicalized and Chet showed up at the draft with a chain with some dice all. Okay, I want to go see this. Now, everybody has the legitimate concern about shit. It's basically the same concern whether or not he is too skinny to play NBA basketball and it gave people a lot of pause when in one of the earliest summer league games before they got to Vegas. He was getting moved around by Kenneth Lofton, junior, who is not Kenny Lofton the baseball player's son, which I absolutely had to look up 'cause honestly I ain't gonna lie, I couldn't figure out how did genetics was gonna work such as that boy could be Kenny Lofton's son. So I was relieved to find out that that was not actually the case, right? And then the punnett square is one going to be adding up for me. But anyway, yeah man, the dude's really, really skinny. And now I'm a little bit worried. Here's why. Here's why, okay? One, I say this all the time when you got one of these skinny guys, and you're like, oh, we'll put some weight on them, and I'm like, hey, take it from Beaumont and Jones. Just putting some weight on isn't really as easy as people make it sound like it is, right? It ain't no difference in some of them big dudes. You'd be like, oh, he'll just lose some weight. Now, and when they don't lose weight it don't mean they ain't trying. It just ain't necessarily that easy for. Okay. What got me about seeing shed in person? And I talked to somebody, I think it was on Thursday. It was either Thursday or Friday, I was at the arena. And I talked to somebody and they were like, hey, when you see them, he's going to be bigger than you think he is, right? Like you're going to see how long his arms are, you can see how big his hands are. You going to see how solidly built he is. You're going to realize that he's maybe bigger than advertised. And I was in the tunnel before they came out and I watched the thunder team come out there and actually know that was not the way it went for me. He was not bigger than I thought he was. It was about what I thought he was, except this is the part that I find worse. Now look, I ain't no personal trainer. I ain't no physiologist. I ain't no scientist. I ain't no doctor. I ain't none of those things, right? Strength coach, any of it. But a difference I absolutely notice between him and Kevin Durant, for example, was this. Kevin Durant was much broader across the shoulders. Right? Like when I think about some of these super skinny guys that we've been like, hey, let's see how this goes. And then they ultimately put the weight on. In fact, I'll use this as an example, though he's not a big man. Steph Curry. If you look at how skinny stiff curry was at Davidson and now how diesel he is now, my God, but if you look at that, he had the body, the frame to put on the weight in that way. I'm not sure the Chet has that frame.

Who's under the most pressure this year in the SEC? Can be a player can be a team can be a coach. We'll get more of your calls coming in at 8 5 5 two four two Paul. You can also tweet me at Jason Fitz. We'll get more of your expertise as we continue to go through the show, but I wanted to get some expertise from somebody you guys know well. Kenny Lloyd Smith, you can check him out on the Des Moines register. Obviously Kenny used to be with South Carolina, used to cover South Carolina. Kenny, I appreciate you hanging out. So you went from South Carolina to Des Moines. You can finally answer the question to everybody really wants to know. Which conference is better. Let's go. Well, up until last week, I had to have been the SEC, right? When you consider that after the champions in Georgia and Alabama and then you welcome in Oklahoma and Texas soon, but I think there's a conversation to be had now with the Big Ten bringing in USC and UCLA and if USC does what they're projected to do under Lincoln Riley and of UCLA can maintain a bit of consistency. I feel like those two conferences are standing side by side and everybody else is trying to catch up. You win full matrix like dancing around that. That was well done by you that was very professional. I pinch in and you managed to get out. Son of a gun. All right, so obviously SEC fans are loud about Texas and Oklahoma still to this day and what it means for the conference and how great the conferences didn't need them, but we'll take them, right? So what's the reaction in Iowa now for USC and UCLA coming to the conference? Yeah, I think that the reaction so far has really been positive not only in Iowa but just in Big Ten country. When you think about the magnitude of what this was, you're talking about two schools that really carry the water for a conference for almost a hundred years. On the West Coast and they are picking up and moving not only the athletics, history and the academic prestige, but the city of Los Angeles and bringing it over to Big Ten country. I don't think that there's really anybody who can look at this move with any sort of negativity in terms of what it's going to mean. Big picture for the conference and where you have to look at where the conference stands in terms of the national landscape. I mean, the big pen right now is really the only power conference that can say that they truly span coast to coast from Los Angeles all the way to the east coast and obviously with all the real estate in the middle and the Midwest. So if it met with good reaction and I think that fans are just really excited for it to begin. So I know money cures everything, Kenny. I'm not a total idiot, but the concept of travel times to this and the concept of getting out to the West Coast like at least if you're Iowa, you're only going to have to go to the West Coast, probably once. But if your UCLA or USC, you can end up having to go out there a bunch of times you go east a bunch of times in a way that really impacts your team. How much consideration is that even being given by anybody right now? Yeah, I think that that was probably the biggest pushback of the conferences when it was brought to the table in terms of thinking about UCLA having to go all the way to New Jersey to play Rutgers for a weekend series in baseball or softball. But I think that that's something that is a bigger question for the schools on the West Coast. And even athletic director Gary Barrett Iowa said as much when the announcement was made official of that, the process to integrate these schools is just beginning and that does include things like travel scheduling this class time and all of that. So that's something that is a concern, but it's still very much in the beginning stages of trying to work all of that out. So I imagine by the time 2024 rolls around, they'll have a much more stable plan in place in terms of that. Yeah, and that's going to be wild to me. Kick-off times two seem to be interesting. What do you think is more likely at this point that West Coast fans are complaining about super early kick-offs or the Midwest fans are complaining about super late kick-offs? I probably would say the West Coast fans complaining about early kick-off. I do feel like there's probably a scenario where the conference and I mean the Big Ten would probably try to maybe like meet the schools down the middle and not make it so inconvenient for the West Coast schools like coming in being the newest members and not being inconveniencing the existing members and trying to accommodate new schools. So that's probably where I would land on it. I mean, it's so early on. We really don't know what exactly these schools are thinking. We are going to have athletic director Gary barta afford availability tomorrow actually. So I imagine that that's going to be a lot of the questions are going to be asked about travel. Their thoughts and bringing them in and kind of what the plan is, at least right now for trying to make this accommodating for everybody. You mentioned Gary Barr to a couple of times. Too, by the way, has always been incredibly kind to me when I've had the chance to interview him on rankings reaction with the college football playoff committee. Obviously, we have a new committee head this year. But nobody knows the playoff process better than Gary barta. Have you had any indication of how he feels all of this expansion will impact the Not at this sense. If I could just give my own take, I think that when you're looking at college football expansion and then you're looking at the way

Why Affirmative Action Is Setting Up Some Students for Failure

"You've written this superlative work inconvenient minority. Everybody needs to get this book. Everybody needs to read this book. The attack on Asian American excellence and the fight for meritocracy by Kenny Shu that's ex you Kenny shoe. I know you're not a psychiatrist. You're not a group psychologist, but you are out there. You are traveling the nation, talking about this discrimination. I have to ask a question based upon my personal experience. I was a fellow at Harvard in the 90s and 98 99. And I went to the Kennedy school as a fellow. I took some courses. And right there in the 90s, at the end of the 90s, I saw reverse discrimination. I saw people who were there at Harvard who were clearly there because somebody said, oh, you're the right skin color. You need to be here. And in my year there, I saw these people suffer. I saw them, you know, out of their depth, I saw them struggling to keep up. And I wanted to myself, and now after I've met you, I wonder even more, isn't there some kind of really detrimental effect, you're having on those you think you're helping by putting them in a situation that they're not ready for? Isn't this like a double whammy for the community that they're supposed to be assisting Kenny? First of all, thank you for mentioning that I'm touring the nation and you can book me at color us united dot org organization that are represent. Second of all, let's talk about yes. Let's talk about the damaging effects of racial preferences on the people that they're supposedly trying to help. So new studies have been released. Unfortunately, African Americans who get in because of affirmative action into these top law schools, for example, tend to graduate at the bottom of 25% of their law schools. That leads to lower salaries, that leads to lower confidence and these people, if they were just matched to the law schools in which they were qualified for it, they could have graduated the top of the class, they could have been well sought after for partnerships, law firms, everything like that. So I don't even get the sense that racial preferences is actually even helping these black individuals furthermore a new study showed that black stem majors tend to tend to drop out of stem at much higher rate because of affirmative action because they were put into courses in which they're ill equipped to compete,

Why 'Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion' Is More Divisive Than You Think

"It used to be about equality, racial equality, equality and civil rights. Now we have this phrase or this word equity and we have the acronym, so diversity, equity, and inclusion. When you talk to us about why these nice sounding words are actually more divisive than ever before. Yes, let's unpack these terms, okay? Why is the left switching from equality to equity? Equality says, we're just going to treat you on your merit. We're going to give you equal opportunity to succeed, but after that, it's on you. You got to compete for it. We don't believe in equal outcomes. We don't even believe in equal racial outcomes, right? We're going to give everybody a public education. We're going to give everybody access to healthcare, whatever you want to call it. This used to be what liberalism was, by the way. And then we'll let you compete or liberalism at least purported to be. But now they're replacing that term with equity. Why? Because they don't like competition. Now they're going to force the racial outcomes that they want, even if it compromises equal opportunity. Here's what I mean. So they say, for example, that the achievement gap right now in terms of test scores is inequitable because black students tend to do worse on the SAT instead of white students. So what does Harvard do? What are top colleges in the school in the doing in the U.S. right now? Well, they decide they want to eliminate the SAT. Not because not because anything's wrong with the SET. Yeah, it's a test, and it's not the only thing that you should base your admissions off of, but it's not inherently racist or discriminatory.

Seb Talks to Kenny Xu About Racist Standards at American Colleges

"Those who are not familiar with you or your work, will you give us a little bit about your background and how you ended up doing what you're doing today, Kenny? Sure. I was a math major in college. I went to Davidson college. I did not have any experience speaking on these issues, but I knew from my time applying for college that Asian and Asian Americans were always going to be held to a higher standard, just because of their skin color. And I thought that that was wrong. But so many of my Asian American Friends didn't really buy into that or they bought into that Kool-Aid. They started saying things like, well, you wouldn't want too many Asians on your college campus anyways. And that was very offensive because Asian Americans are very diverse and they're very different people. So I started speaking out about this. I started speaking about a Harvard about Harvard's discrimination against Asian Americans. And which led to a Supreme Court case that has now been litigated at the highest court of the land, it could overturn race based admissions forever. It's called students for fair admissions versus Harvard and since then I've become the president of color S united and what we do is we fight for a race blind America. And we believe that that's the principle that should motivate us, not race.

Kenny Xu Shares Shocking Statistics About Ivy League Admissions

"Will you just share with us some of the shocking statistics that you divulged at the conference in New Jersey, then yesterday on my show on newsmax when it comes to the barriers, the official barriers that are being put in place by deans of admissions by the directors of admissions at these very prestigious schools in America. So give us the nuts and bolts because I think most people will not believe what is being done to the Asian American community. Yeah, this is the results of my investigation in my new book and inconvenient minority. And the results are staggering. They are staggering. Asian Americans have to score 440 points higher on the SAT to have the same chance of admission as a black person. And a 150 points higher to have the same chance of admission as a white person. Asians actually score highest academically in the admissions process to Harvard. They score highest extracurricular and then Harvard penalizes Asians by calling them the lowest on this personality score. Now, what is a personality score you may ask? It's a test of what they call a likeability, good humor, leadership, skills, it's very subjective in Asian seem to pass with flying colors to get the highest scores on alumni interviews because the highest scores and teacher recommendations, a second highest on counselor recommendations. But Harvard rates the lowest anyway. Very suspicious. Seems like Asians are being discriminated in this process.

Certain vegetable fruit situations that's just so superior to anywhere else. And it's like, if you want certain ingredients, always the place. Before we go, we've Kenny G coming on after you. Tell your Kenny gee, Thanksgiving story. So we had a trumpet player. I'm not going to say his name. He's going to know who he is when I say this story. We had a trumpet player that was at our House what time for Thanksgiving? Some years ago. This guy who with the high school with me, and it's one of the best trumpet players down there in Louisiana. He became a very, very, very, very prominent musician. Yeah. So we're all talking. And they're talking about jazz and stuff like that. Then I make a kidney Ji joke. I say something about Kenny G and this guy, the trumpet player goes, well, you know, people joke about those guys, but Kenny G is a fantastic musician. In his own right, you know, people make jokes about Kimi G or the guys who play other jazz instruments like women Tisdale or whoever those guys aren't you here on the smooth channel, whatever the channel is, it's always the smoothest jazz smooth jazz. They make jokes about these guys, but these guys are competitive musically with the other jazz greats in their own right. My uncle lost his fucking mind. When I say he lost his mind, he was like, young man, I don't even know you. But if you about to tell me that some goddamn Kenny G can't stand up next to Coltrane or Davis or Louis Armstrong or 80s people, you need to get your young ass up out of the house and my homie looks back up and goes, wow, wow, wow, why are you talking to me like this? And my dad is like, everybody calm down. And I'm like, no, don't calm down. You guys, please. Express all of the feelings that you have in the loudest way. And then he actually said that as far as musicianship, Kenny G is just as good as any of those guys, he just doesn't play the same style of jazz. And it was a Civil War. Wow. Well, that's why we did this Doc. One of the most polarizing musicians. And yet, one of the most successful musicians, and he totally gets the conversation. He's very aware of it, which is what makes him so interesting. All right, then we can hear you in higher learning. We can hear in the ringer verse. Any good marvel movies coming? What do we got? Oh, yeah. We got the hawkeye right now, which is a marvel Disney+ show that's on right now. We're covering that on the ring of earth. And then in a couple of weeks man, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Oh yeah. One of the biggest probably not one of the biggest the biggest marvel moments since endgame. So you guys, please, if you're happy at all, keep up with us. Pew pew. Hawkeye, what does B minus B? No, hey, all kinds of name. A yeah. Is renner back? Are we having a? Is there a renaissance? A renaissance. Yeah, we're just doing this thing. All guys definitely know. We love in hawkeye. All right, good to see you, van lathan. Congrats on your coach. Thank you..

"I am your host Jimmy trying to thank so much for listening. We've got Kenny main on the show long detailed interview with Kenny talking about is exit from ESPN and what he's up to now and the state of sports media. Good long conversation with Kenny Mayne who is very, very funny as you all know. Before we get to Kenny, let me also tell you we have the train of thought segment following Kenny main's interview with my buddy salad where we get into some things about the Tom Brady Doc men in the arena on ESPN+. There's a new in season hard knocks with the cults. We talk about the latest episode of curb your enthusiasm, get into something on Steph Curry dominating on the road and whether an opponent going into a rotor and lighting it up as one of the best things in sports when the crowd starts turning on their team and siding with the opposing players as color he did. One night this week in Brooklyn. So that's after Kenny main. Before we get to both of those spots, let me just tell you if you missed any recent episodes of the SI media podcast to check them out in the archives last week. We had Becky Lynch from the WWE and the ringers Kevin Clark two weeks ago, Al Michaels, three weeks ago, Chris long, four weeks ago, Jeff levy and Jeff Garland from Korea enthusiasm. So if you miss any of those, go into the archives, listen to them download them and subscribe and leave a review if you can do that. That would really be appreciate it. All right, let's get to this week's episode, Kenny main followed by train of thoughts right here on the SI media podcast. All right, joining me now, first time for me on the SI media podcast and he's become a pretty popular podcast guest since leaving ESPN, long time, ESPN stalwart, very popular. Kenny main, Kenny, how are you? Thanks for having me. I just signed up because I think her name was cool. It sounds like a rapper. I thought you were a rapper when I first saw your name. I can't say I have any wrapping skills at all, unfortunately. I have no singing skills at all actually. I love to sing. I wrapped for Snoop Dogg. This summer I did the Olympics for peacock. Yep. And long, long ago, we did a story when I was doing the pretend football stories of ESPN. We had my niece who was a singer. We had a John Legend on piano, snoop, rapping, my sister and her church choir gospel choir. All that together for the Peyton Manning dance it was called. So I made up a really stupid rap that I always wanted to do for snoop, just as a thank you as a silly tribute. And when I was on his show during the peacock time, I just screwed I'm doing it. I don't want to do it now, but I did do it then. Well, snoop impressed..

Many many guests previewing this weekend's biggest games we have people at all the big games including conversation with dawn. Staley and shane beamer. As we are live from the horse show horseshoe horse nor show On the usc campus let scared to roddy. who's up. next. Hey hey ronnie just calling in an alabama fan. You wanna take up much of your time. But i think gary danielsson's name should be put in the hat for the usc coach because he knows all the places called every time you hear him on tv. Thank you very much. Okay well i if you took that job then but that he wouldn't do the. Cbs games anymore winning. Let's check out. I don't know who wanna go. Let's just i'm just gonna close my eyes and say porter is up next to hell porter. Paul how you doing porter. We are doing great. What's up with you. I wanted to ask you three questions. first one is. How do you think. Wisconsin will do against notre dame second of all that will. Do you think justin fields will do in his first store third. Hell what did you see from an ems backup. Kiedis calls on it. I i saw a guy that knows how to win. And i think I think they lose a little bit from hanes king. I think that speaks for itself when you go to tobacco. But i like what he did. I mean i know. He had some tough moments but He he made the play that mattered. I just fields will be great I don't know why it's taken the bears three weeks to get to him. But i know that they They wanted to take it slow. I'm still kind of torn on the wisconsin game. I originally i was leaning toward notre dame. But but i'm starting to swing around to the the badgers. What about you. I'm going wisconsin. Because i'm tired of notre dame making it in the playoffs embarrassed high level team. Okay well i'm gonna pull for wisconsin to then. Hey thank you. Appreciate the call. Percy percy give me out of here. Hey follow ghana which today. Hey there how are you I wanted to ally the game against florida. Okay and the defense play awesome into often play fair the way so the defense with a whole number three point secondhand the offense then play where they were dropping bow for first down that could at their could've kept the game going that put the defense back on the field. Florida camp coming haw alabama. So by that time the defense up things were and they will go out and and so when the offense kate mood about. They didn't get the defense time to read but they did manage to rise up when they needed it to but if the receiver they had to have demand in the third quarter quality like the ball. They will drop in the ruthie. We we lancia dante's dante Was nice meal and avenue and waddell who were just both first round picks. oh yeah when. They went when when they throw the ball into them. They went like their first break. John is the practice of stolen but they did. But you can. I think the criticism bryce young is is really overdone I mean i think he's very well and You know he had a couple balls. There should have been caught. But that's okay right so offense coordinator defense coordinator they're doing. They're doing a fantastic job because he just got out. Because i often can maintain a long drive to get time to rip and florida coming hall so i pay. You can bet nick fame. We'll have them read it this week. I think saving you know saving didn't have to talk about getting their attention. I mean i would think this was a good week of practice for southern missing. you know. they're not their practice. They're already getting ready for all. Miss the southern miss game. But i worry about that will flow and now by the time they jail and offense come around they do and just get a defense time to read certain little bit. Paul ain't nobody gonna be we're gonna have they're gonna be how many how many how many champs in nickname got failed. He's only seven national championships. Right now six at alabama. Oh okay you'll have a even alabama dc. Right powell elaine. Bag on bigalow. No back you ever think he was those championships. Oh no sweet home. Alabama babe you think may have one six year and fourteen years. Maybe we ought to let somebody else went it this year. No we won't be to do it not going to be obama fans. I don't know what you're not an easy group to please. I'm a road tied all the way. Now where do you live in. Alabama and birmingham birmingham on your hill and paul would say that alabama fan they get mad at me about when alabama mccain go to a championship in the all championship. I pooled for over. I am alabama fan but if alabama make najem chip and all would make do championship. I pool for over. The two-time auburn played in two thousand ten in two thousand thirteen. You for auburn times right pool with them because they will put the state alabama if i did i did too i will. Uab update their one year. One do you think. Maybe i don't think it will be this year now. Now we'll be dad. That's my i like you you call again. Thanks for the call. Personally from birmingham.

"Any mozart. Beethoven you know. What was it like for you. I think for beethoven it was i think i compose on the level but more along the lines of process of a beethoven. 'cause i think i would rework things rework things and then they turned into something else whereas you've probably never heard of fat jones but to me. It was one of the greatest jazz big band. Right is the twentieth century. Definitely on anybody's level. Do gallon campus. Whatever and he would write scores and he would do the parts without hearing them. You know i could do that too. But i mean what his draft was was. It and i'm told that that's the way mozart was whereas beethoven would rework things in rework things and then they'd morph into what he wants but they. You seem to have this idea that there was something you could do. What did you think you could do and what are you doing. It starts with decades ago. I found myself crying out to god and say god break my heart with the things that break yours. That was constant in my life. I want to cry with the things that you cry with. God i want to smile at the things you smile with. And so he. I saw any broke my and i just i just. It wasn't one of those things here. i am. Send me god. It was like here. i am cut. Yes that i mean people understand. There's a spiritual element. This is not just good works. We're gonna we're gonna do some good stuff. "Anyway My son is nineteen and is a big dolly parton fan as a result of that he became a huge kenny rogers. He's nineteen years old and you know he's just not got caught up in the draft. You got that right. My question is do you. Are you saying not only you know. I'm fifty seven. Are you seeing a younger fan. Base of any sort that has it has a has an interest in your music. You know what i'm convinced of. All the people that bought my records played it for their kids. I those kids are now growing up and enjoy what they heard when they were kids. So it's it's a great hand off. I think managing..

"Sure many of you recognize that voice that wonderfully distinctive voice. Kenny rogers. He's here in the studio with me. He's got a brand new memoir is titled lock or something like it. He was raised a housing project. One eight children in houston texas. His father ahead drinking problem in rochelle we say his mother was a stalwart who worked she worked. How many jobs she worked as a as at at the Church in the nursery and then she worked at the rice hotel cleaning rooms she worked at. She just worked everywhere she was. She was an amazing woman. She was a nurse assistant at the hospital. And yet somewhere in your heart you believe she emasculated your founder. Yeah she needed to deal with how to take care of. You sometimes reality's emasculating. You know she threw emasculating in the sense that he wanted to be the man but wasn't capable and i think that really hurt him and he knew that but to my father's credit he stayed with my mom until he died and he didn't just run off and leave and find somebody else do that so i have to step back from him sometime and think about those qualities that he had and he was funny. He was a hilarious man to be around. He made us laugh every night. And so you know. They each had their contribution to the family. But my mom's stronger. And my mom i remember her going to all these jobs and she told me once son she said be happy where you are never be content to be there but if you're not happy where you are you'll never be happy. Here's an email from keat. Who says i was becoming a little disillusioned with rock music at about the same time. Kenny rogers switched to country. I'd like to know if kenny rogers had similar feelings for the direction rock music was taking at that time. We'll i was accidentally rock in high school. There was a friend of mine. Name mickey newbury who Who did imbibe in medications. And he wrote just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in. And i just loved the song i thought it was socal so i asked him if i could record it. And he said he couldn't let me have it. Because sammy davis junior. Had it on hold. And i would've loved to her getting i just. We were never comfortable. The first edition was never comfortable being rock and roll and we were never fully accepted. That song was so unique that it was played on rock radio. If you look back we had songs like reuben. James ruby. Don't take your love to town. And we had songs that were really country oriented. And i've always been much more comfortable there and.

"They have to be a hundred percent behind him and his injury and they have to say this. Come back and do it again. Because he's already come back from injury and played at an all star an mvp level But they went all in two years ago when they when they signed. Both of those guys. the free agent. So you can't turn back now. We've turned it back now. Kenny let me. Let me say this i know. Go waza to tom. Champion but while. I got you on the show. Let me also reiterate a position that i've echoed in the past. I have no problem. Recognizing wildland is one of the top plays and the brother is just big time. There's no denying that he's a two time champion. We get that but kenny. I got serious doubts as to whether or not i would want to invest with him. Long-term you about a one or two year deal that's different but long-term speak to us a second about culture in the sport of basketball when you instigate load management when you play when you wanna play practice when you want to practice and your injury prone. How can that build the crop culture for you particularly if you to los angeles clippers. What do you say they. They had cut themselves only because he won a championship doing in toronto. He was low management coming in and out practicing at certain times sitting out games. They want a championship and he was down the stretch. Then if you say. I'm gonna only offer you wanna two year deal but three do this. Twenty other teams. That would clear cap space at say. I'll take that chance including a team in the same building problem. We'll take that chance. I i think that they put themselves in a position that he he's he's one that way if he had if he had played toronto and they didn't win. Then you could be like well. Hey got got we got. We got stuck back. We've got to give you like three. You deal we gotta make the practice. But since he's done it and he's done at the high level and won the championship doing it. I think you're handcuffed to say this is the way it's going to be Can be left the good stuff for a paying it for. Tell us more about the academy and we talked to you about it when you launch. We were pandemic July twenty twenty. What's going on with that. Six thousand members virtual basketball -struction. You get the best. That's what we're doing here. I mean in. North carolina filming. We felt just filming six vanity at clarkston got draymond green. Cj mccollum and you could just personal one on one learning how to play the game a lot. There's a lotta great trainers but these you went to do stuff why there's a difference between just doing it. So if you go to the jet academy dot com again. Jared kademi dot com sign up. Don't be a scrub this year. Don't come back after this summer..

"We've talked kenny wallis. A number of times on the radio side television podcast did some with him and his brother rusty just a while back but this this particular episode is pretty specific. We've narrowed it down. Like when we had bob costas on march. It wasn't just about his career. I think he calls him the wikipedia interviews where people book remember that one time and then then there was that other time. Now i like to do a lotta pieces that are career retrospective and especially people that we haven't gotten to know that well over the years but kostas segment was all about the art of the interview whether it was letterman style. The larry king style. You name it so this. Killing wallis visit is specific to his recent visit to alaska. Follow kenny on twitter and you always get total update on what's going on in his life and he was racing in alaska so i started thinking how do you. How do you end up racing in alaska. Obviously you're getting paid to go do it. Somebody had yet you there. What about your car. Where does that come from. And i loved the anecdote that somebody locally local driver so sure i got a car kennington us but he gives him a car that he considers the crappier car thinking. Hey it's okay. I'll get the chance to beat him. Because i got a better car and then i'll tell everybody. Hey kidding wall and she's sitting on fox. Tv all those years part of the wallace racing family. Yeah i beat him at the local race except he didn't he. There's a great little nugget about that. Also just the idea of being in alaska the great frontier. What did kim and kenny. The great kim wallace with him on the trip. What did they see. What did they do. So it's the adventures of kenny. But it's more specific. Kenny goes to alaska. Which does sound like a great children's book. It is the latest kilcoyne conversation. A little fun just talking about his adventure there as always we are presented by our great sponsors which includes be g.
