"How the band tries to maintain their unique voice within the music industry. That's one thing that gets lost when you start listening to people about whether or not what is quote unquote. You have to write a hit single because then suddenly you're not visualizing your song or visualizing yourself. You're just trying to manipulate yourself into something that you're not. I think that's what gets lost and being in just like we got into Iraq because we want to be completely independent of all of that. You know, we didn't want to have a boss. Wanna have any rules. "Would be very excited just to watch like Joey Votto step into a batting cage with the machine throwing good pitches I think I'd sit mesmerized watching him hit for twenty minutes or so right now yeah and that would be great I think I think you know ten minutes today or to put it on after the wine and what do you want with the wind and then a lot of fun don't bottle it would be a great a great great opportunity so she had all the support and I love the great sports stories you know the players that are taken off their time giving giving and that's fantastic much better than the other ones that will complain about something so I think that's fantastic and I love being a part you say sports and look forward to this season with the Bengals I I eat after the same topic the park caller Pune Superbowl but of course if we do it'll be a shortened season then it'll be to Africa yes the record books that's even more to the draft and everything else Steve thank you thank you for what you were doing stay safe and call me again sometime all right all right okay thank you all right hi this is a it's a little overwhelming tonight and I don't as I as I think I I didn't bear it's it's something I've been thinking about I don't want this to sound like although it probably does to this point I I did I didn't ask this in the context of of making it about me I just happen to be the one talking about the sports but I might my intent was and I hope I I hope you understand was just sports in general I just happen to be that the conduit whose job is talking about sports I I just I wanted to find out tonight if sports what to what extent it it matters if it does to you at all in this moment it is someone who's behind the Mike talking about it it's obviously are important for me to find that out but your input tonight has has blown me away and I I see this in the in all sincerity in thinking about this last night I said man I a if I were if I were on the outside looking in like listening to me they're probably be moments where I I roll my eyes and I'd say how can you get excited about fill in the blank whatever that topic is there are people dying and there are people out of work in there the death rate is doubling and tripling every day in ten thousand people are unemployed and in it it's why I I thought throughout the night rolling around in bed they can I mean does it does it serve a purpose for people who talk sports to to talk sports and do you have made it very clear in the end this hour that that it does and that means a great deal to me and and adds it's honestly it's why I dug up the green letter today from four of president Franklin Delano or present that Franklin Roosevelt in in the letter to Kenesaw Landis to see what words he used in that letter to the commissioner and the president said to him in January of nineteen forty two I honestly feel that it would be best for the country to keep baseball going there will be a source of relaxation and an opportunity for America to take their minds off their war work and I'm not comparing this to war work or the president or the commissioner but in my little world I I I I hope what we talk about all right night to night basis and and I think we can have some fun with our topic in the eight o'clock hour naming our old nineteen nineties ridge team it adds up to keeping that sorts of of relaxation there an opportunity to take your mind off things and did to keep talking about sport there's no games but it doesn't mean we can't talk about sports and I I think we'll have some fun with our topic in the eight o'clock hour I'm way late for a break it is seven fifty three this is arnelle Kerrier sports talk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred WLW what happened yeah I have a little fun with our job to make sure your half yeah happy with anything seven rocky boy.

"O'clock I I mention this to begin the short what follow up a little bit more in and gather some of your input and I I said last night I drove home wondering and I I I I didn't sleep much last night I thinking about this is a topic because I've spent a lot of time wondering about what I'm doing and and what I should be doing it I wonder about what role sports plays right now and how badly or how much sports really matter to you and and to me and part of me is always thought that I get to be the one who's the three hour slice out of a twenty four hour news cycle on this station they get to talk about sports in sports are generally fun and uplifting and exciting in it and I get excited I'm very passionate about it and yet as I said earlier part of me feels guilty about that almost that by doing that I I'm not appreciating the the seriousness of what is happening in and part of me feels uncomfortable talking with energy and passion about sports I'm that's that's easy for me to do right now because what I I love sports but most importantly my family together in the same house what were all healthy I'm able to work it in as I said the the world inside my bubble he is thank god it is safe but many people are are working many people are are healthy and with new sports and no games I wonder do you have a need for sport do you have a need to have a time for sports conversation because in your pecking order of things that are going on in the world right now I gotta believe sports are way down the list and so is there time for they did this silly sports list and remembering what happened on this date in sports history here what I'm gonna try to do in the eight o'clock hour we're gonna put together and pick our all raids nineteen nineties teen the Reds ask that online today to pick my position the player the best represents the raids in the decade of the nineties and as I said I I guess it comes down to this how much do sports matter to you right now in normal times if you're listening to me I'm I'm assuming they matter a lot but these are far from normal times so I I guess I I'm asking how much do they matter in this moment it you know I I am in getting ready for this I went back and I read the green light letter president Franklin Roosevelt wrote a letter to then baseball commissioner Kenesaw Landis January fifteenth nineteen forty two World War two and he wrote that in his words in the letter quote I honestly feel that it would be best for the country to keep baseball going during the war he said it'd be a source of relaxation and opportunity for Americans to take their minds off their war work and after I got done reading that letter I I said I'm I'm I'm gonna ask tonight if you have a conversation about sports not just for me but it in a text with your body or email or or or resume conversation with friends if sports is still something that provides something you you want need and it even have time for right now with much more pressing matters in the world and in our lives let's go to the phones five one three seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one and pound seven hundred on it A. "To this week in sports history will star of the nineteen twenty one with the American League votes to return to the best of seven World Series of baseball well the nationally votes they do it in nine games commissioner Kenesaw Landis cast the deciding vote for the best of seven this week in nineteen forty eight the Philadelphia Eagles shut out the Chicago cardinals seven to nothing in the NFL championship game their first championship they won it again in nineteen forty nine and nineteen sixty eight but did not win a Superbowl and till twenty eighteen this week in nineteen fifty nine Tom Landry except the coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys and stays at the coach until nineteen eighty eight this week in nineteen sixty six the NBA award Seattle franchise for the nineteen sixty seven sixty eight season the Seattle SuperSonics would play there until two thousand and eight when they moved to Oklahoma City to become the thunder this week in nineteen eighty four Wayne Gretzky at twenty three years old is the eighteenth and youngest NHL player to score one thousand points this week in nineteen ninety six Pittsburgh Steelers Kordell Stewart runs a record eighty yards for a touchdown the longest ever by a quarterback the current record is ninety three yards by Terrell prior in two thousand thirteen for the raiders and this week in two thousand five Johnny Damon signs of fifty two million dollars four year deal to play for the New York Yankees not really a big deal except for the fact that Damon played for hated rival the Boston Red Sox for the previous four years stature I heart radio weekend sports time capsule old programs on newstalk eleven thirty W. I. S. and are broadcast to the annex wealth management studios annex wealth management know the difference program I'm sorry I've got five news on the studio the house rules panel holding hearings to set guidelines for the impeachment debate obviously can't of the sound on I was watching a gesturing congressman Raskin from Maryland you know sort of emoting forcibly during this hearing and I still can't hear anything all I can see is through science theater with yeah all I can do is see his hair and I desperately want to get to that man with a comb in a two liberal cream I'm not kidding you I was completely distracted by is there I shouldn't be so distracted by things that are so Monday in right except that the entire piece from impeachment proceeding is it's a charade is meant to be a partisan charade simply to try to buy the Democrats cover for what they can't offer in terms of policy ideas of the American people support period I am Stephen groves on the phone with me right now Mister gross is special assistant to the president and deputy press secretary welcome to the program thank you for joining me on this on this lovely Tuesday afternoon thanks a lot for me on the case all right my pleasure Mister girls I'm looking at the president's letter here and I must say I would very much like to perform this letter with music very good it says six page take down from top to bottom from below sea to shift to Naylor to all of the the media coverage that has been providing false information to America but what it really seems to get to I think importantly is the two articles of impeachment and they're in and I and I think you would argue to their invalidity so let's first start with obstruction and we'll move on to abuse of power the Democrats are claiming but obstruction tell me how we can still have an article of impeachment that's obstruction when the Supreme Court just took up cases challenging that for us on president trump's challenge to use to to government subpoenas yeah this is all a product of the year the Democrats needing to rush this through and not wanting to wait for the legal process to play itself out there's a very legitimate legal basis for the president not to sit simply turn over you know thousands of pages of internal private White House documents or to allow his closest advisers to be compelled to be forced to go up to Capitol Hill and testify in this sham and these were legitimate legal defenses brought up by the president and we're being litigated in federal court but because Nancy Pelosi and her colleagues are on this false deadline this completely fabricated deadline to get things done before Christmas for whatever reason we've never heard a reason why Dave decided to go ahead and charge him accuse him of an obstruction of Congress which I don't even know what that means I don't I don't know that that account is ever existed in American history obstruction of Congress are part of obstruction of justice but if you are raising legal defenses against subpoenas as an executive branch as the head of the executive branch and raising valid legal defenses and litigating them in article three courts I just I I just can't believe that they manage to turn that into an article of impeachment and yet here we are and they're going to vote on that article and pass it out of the house in a shameful partisan vote tomorrow yeah the end and basically what you're saying is if there is a legal question to be settled over whether or not the president should be forced to comply with congressional subpoenas that legal question is settled by the courts again the United States Supreme Court just took up a case that deals with this exact same question Democrats trying to compel privileged information from president trump president trump's asserting privilege the courts are ultimately going to be the arbiters of that but Congress is they're getting to itself that authority and that's unconstitutional and yet they're gonna move forward with it yeah it's and that is why this is just a particularly shameful chapter in in the history of the house of representatives you know you know the Congress has certain privileges and immunities to they've got something called the speech and debate clause where they're not allowed to be sued for everything for anything they say on the floor of the house Warner committee hearing and they can't be compelled through litigation to turn over documents or or have certain statements that they've made held against them in a court of law so they they're they're they're they understand the concept of privileges and immunities for a particular branch of government they just don't want to respect the privileges and immunities for the executive branch of government and not only do they not want to respect them they are claiming that an assertion of those privileges leads to an impeachable offense right it's it's it's so laughable thank you to so laughable obstruction of Congress that would be the impeachable offense offense that they have conjured a seemingly perhaps even out of thin air because it sounds good and let's face it we've got an entire nation of people who have gone through a public school system that is not taught them what school house rock taught many of us in the nineteen seventies even the basics of that so let's get to abuse of power abuse of power from from you know what the Democrats have said abuse of power is the president being the president sudden for inciting for his own foreign policy there is your abuse of power talking to foreign leaders their your abuse of power disagreeing with Democrats there's your abuse of power so basically the second article of impeachment is because the the Democrats just don't like the president well there or they don't like how he's acting as president you know this is a policy dispute masquerading as an impeachable offense I mean per witness after witness that came before Adam ships committee and testified in his basement bunker beforehand said well you know the president was doing something that the interagency process hadn't recommended or the president didn't use the talking points that we wrote for him or the ambassador was like this what the president did was against US foreign policy well they they also need to go back to civics class in sixth grade and read the constitution as well because the foreign policy is the purview of the president of the United States and not some staff member on the NSC and not even an ambassador sitting over in a foreign country the president decides foreign policy he is the only person left that decides foreign policy everyone else is there Josh to execute it so when they come back and see what they did in Ukraine within **** that didn't that didn't have that didn't follow US foreign policy so I went and complained to a lawyer about it you know that goes to tell you what their mindset is that they are the ones as bureaucrats our staff that decide what foreign policy is and not the commander in chief and head of the executive branch and that's all you need to to know about them and then of course there's Democrats on the hill well I guess they think they determine what foreign policy is and again they're just terribly mistaken and need to re read the constitution that they were waving around at the hearing as if they'd ever cracked a little paperback of the constitution before and we all just know they have because of they had they would have read that as the congressional branch of government they don't have anything to do with determining what foreign policy is that's up to the president and the president hello isn't it strange they just don't have they don't have their heads around this is us being nice they don't have their heads around the concept of the separation of powers that's what it is right let's also generous here generous here in just thing they don't realize that the executive has a certain you know defined set of responsibilities that is not congresses they don't realize that the judicial branch has a certain set of defined responsibilities that is not congresses yeah maybe we can solve this whole thing by sitting them in front of our old government teachers back when we were in sixth or seventh grade and then they would maybe perhaps realize that they are stupid but lighting a stick of dynamite under the norms the constitutional norms the government norms the ethics of this Republic in so many different ways ink in up to and including defending the behavior of a roll call of the roll good actors in the FBI and the justice department so you don't make he's one of the nice even if we could just all sit in a class and say oh well that's what this is all about never mind never mind let's move on and you know maybe passing appropriations bill that isn't gonna break the back of the American the federal budget it would be nice I think that as in in as incoming congressmen they should be forced to sit down with the constitutional historian to explain the basics of separation of powers to explain why impeachment was put into the constitution and what is not meant to do which is what is being used for now which is to settle a political beef that congressional Democrats have with the president for daring to have won the election in twenty sixteen and what they want to do is not impeach the president for high crimes and misdemeanors they know these committed no high crimes and misdemeanors it is no they can't beat him in twenty twenty and so they want to try to invalidate the twenty sixteen election which they lost and then they want to affect and muddy the twenty twenty election which they are losing so a basic constitutional lessons would be great for incoming congressional freshmen particularly on the democratic side because I don't think when they ran for Congress they had that that paperback version of the constitution handy to wave around I think they've discovered it in recent weeks does it cover the word somebody was walking by the Smithsonian museum store and saw the deck of cards that says US constitution quiz cards I know they're there because I bought three sets of them for members of Congress Mister groves yeah I did I ship to those off to members of Congress who might I know so you know that's where they they saw this word constitution we know that the American people react favorably to this war constitution so we'll just keep saying this word constitution but you know what they're doing this isn't even so much yes it's it's it's president trump president trump is is there you know it it's it's if you go to Saul and skis roles for radicals it's the personalized you know the the personalized externalization of their political enemy right so it's trump we can point to trump you know let's just make him the boogie man but what they're really doing is they're going after us here in Wisconsin they can't believe they lost Wisconsin they can't believe president trump could possibly have gone out and campaign and talk to people like me and talk to people like the ones who live in our state and and actually you convince them to cast a vote in favour based on a message of turning this country around of making America great again and that's really what this impeachment is about they're willing to to light a stick of dynamite under the constitution because they want to shut down we the people's voice in a in a presidential election that it never quite gotten over losing states like Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania you know states there's been reliably Democrat for a long time of course the coastal elites when.
