"Now in the story you heard moments ago from ABC News is 17 people are now in custody as the feds bust up a major drug cartel in Washington in California. More now from northwest news radios Jeff beaujolais. The investigation began more than a year ago. Early 2021, one of the lead defendants in this case hit the law enforcement radar and over the next year, we obtained court authorized wiretaps to tap their phones related to the drug trafficking organization. The U.S. attorney Nick Brown says their efforts culminated in a number of raids this week, leading to multiple arrests and the seizure of a massive cache of drugs and guns. But he adds that law enforcement can't fix the fentanyl crisis alone. In order to seriously address the crisis that this community and indeed communities across the country are facing, it takes multiple entities, multiple organizations, multiple actors, to really make this a safe and healthy community. Meanwhile, the investigation will continue. Jeff pojo and northwest news radio. Still ahead. In Seattle, we have an axe to response now partially blocking the ramp from eastbound 90 to south and I 5 red at the very end of that rant before it merges on to the main line. So that is what's causing some congestion right around I 5 around there, but I still haven't figured out what caused the slowing on west found 90 coming off a Mercer island. It doesn't prove once you get to the bridge deck. Westbound 5 20, on the other hand, is still just rolling slow from mid span onto I 5 and you can expect to lay south down 5 from about Ravenna through the convention center, but our drive time to the north and are improving. We're at like 38 to 45 minutes to get from Seattle to Everett or Bellevue to Everett and it keeps improving. South on four O 5 is rolling slow from 5 20 right to the top of the Kennedy hill hill, which is some scatter delays left on the valley freeway getting into Kent and around algona. Once the budget is released, the county council will have to give final approval. Jeff pojo and northwest news radio. Neighborhoods plagued by violence are often the same areas where basics like food and healthcare are also lacking. According to one community member, northwest news radio's Ryan Harris has more from a discussion on gun violence. Young people are often a target whether it's because they come from communities of color where biases often work against them or by gangs which use them to engage in violence because of limits on juvenile punishment. More and more police and prosecutors are turning to community groups to intervene with youth to turn them away from violence. That includes groups like choose one 80 whose executive director Sean goode told the state Senate committee, they are essentially tour guides on young people's journey to healing. Young people are possibilities to be developed and not problems to be solved. And then if we wrap them around with those types of supports and begin to invest in them as possibilities, the outcomes that we can create are just as significant as the purpose that lives within each of them. Often that healing involves kids exposure to domestic violence in their homes, which a couple of police officials say is frequently a root cause of community violence. The troubles I was talking about last time in Seattle's southbound I 5 near Michigan cleared. Now it did leave a solid backup though from the U district. It's just bumper to bumper, solid, you know, down towards the west Seattle bridge, but hopefully that will start to improve. On the east side in Bellevue, south Balfour O 5 is crowded from southeast 8th over the Kennedy hill hill, still seeing the backups westbound I 90 through the high point area of trying to get into issaquah because of construction happening in the two left lanes westbound between X at 20 and X at 18. Southbound or one 6 7 is sluggish from Ellington into Sumner, and then we have a solid backup on south NI 5 in the area all the way into lacy, and the reason for that is a car fire south down high 5 its leader Kinney road, it's the two right lanes that are blocked. "Slash rocketship. So this episode has been a lot. Yes, it really has been. Basically, where things stand are yes, hard work is important. We should all work hard. But there's a fine line between working hard and biting the dangerous side of the hustle. And honestly, it's hard to even know where to go from here. Well, I will say, finishing up my conversation with Kennedy hill, she did have some recommendations for her Gen Z peers, who feel like they have the hustle. Now, doesn't necessarily paint a rosy picture for them, but here's Kennedy with that advice. It sucks that so many of us are in a position where we don't have the generational wealth. We don't have the financial stability to not be able to protect ourselves financially and that kind of matter where he just find a job. And it's like, and even when just finding a 9 to 5 job with the wages, now, I mean, you could live, but people aspired to want to have a life, you know? And so we want to live we want to have a life. And so if a friend comes to me, and they're like, you know, I have to hustle. I'm going to say, you know what? You do. And it sucks. And I'm going to try to hang in there with you, but you really just need to one set, set boundaries for yourself, because no one is going to do it for you, right? I think it's very easy to get kind of caught up in this rat will just keep going keep going, keep going, keep going. But when you're going out and alone, there's no one looking over your shoulder, like there's no one watching your back for you because there's no one behind you is just you. And so it's like, if you like, if you have to physically write down on a piece of paper, not not on your notes app on your phone. If it feels right down on a piece of paper, I'm not gonna look at my email after 6 o'clock 7 o'clock on the day of your work. And you're like, I'm not gonna check my email before 8 a.m. and give yourself structure because I think when we have structure, we fill less frazzled because we know I'm gonna do work at this time. And really, and also you really just have to advocate for yourself. I remember there are times where I feel like I was being paid enough and it was very scary. Because like, oh, I've never had to ask someone for more money. They said there's not much you could fade. I didn't even know, like what is negotiating to like for me? I'm lucky that I have family who's who have jobs or they've been putting up to multiple times. I can rely on them so that everyone does. And so I would say just do your research like if there's something you're scared to do, there's probably someone on the Internet who can show you how to do it, right? Look up how to negotiate. Look up how much you should be paid as a freelance writer as an illustrator. As a graphic designer, whatever you work is, I think the more you prepare yourself with the research and data and education, more confident you feel in your own ability to lead yourself as a business person. And then you won't feel so anxious to advocate yourself and to say, we don't know. You're trying to take advantage of me because I'm 23 and you don't think I know much, but I do know. And so it's not okay for you to try to run over me because I have this R Snell of information and knowledge that's going to back me up if there's not a second person to do it for me. Well, it may not be rosy advice, but it's probably good advice. Yeah, I think so too. And I also found some more perspective from the Dave Ramsey show, actually. Now, whether you're a fan of Dave Ramsey or not, this advice is worth taking in. This is actually a caller question from the Dave Ramsey show earlier this year. I work for my father and we're in the construction business pretty large company. We've got 40 employees about 7 million top line gross. But anyways, I'm 29 years old. I've been working with them for ten years now. And I'm working around 6 to 65 hours a week and I'm just kind of warning am I wrong for want to drop my hours back because I have a wife and two kids and just kind of want to know your thoughts on that? Yeah, the only time I work amount of hours are ask someone to work that amount of hours is for a sprint, a short season, to knock something out. Now the short season could be for a year. I could even be for two years, but while we're trying to get something up and moving, or there's an emergency, and it follows under the heading of country sayings, but make hay while the sun shines, right? And so if you've got to put in 16 hour days, get the hay out of the field for The Rain kills it. And kills your dad gone crop. You've got to go do that. Shut up, you know? And if you and the other one is get the oxide of the ditch. Something's broken, right? And we've got to get the, you know, we've got to get that item fixed. So if the servers go down around here, my guys are here at two in the morning. But they're not here at two in the morning every week. It's because something broke. Right? Yeah. And I'm not here because I can't even spell server, so it wouldn't do any good for me to be here unless somebody's in coffee. But you know, so the question is, is this a way of life or is this a fact that we're in the middle of a construction boom, and you guys need to get the hay out of the field? And you know, Dave didn't say never work on overdrive. He said sometimes it's necessary to do so in a sprint type situation or, you know, put in the time to get the hay out of the field before The Rain kills it or get the ox out of the ditch. I don't know if those phrases are gonna land well here on rockets. I think I'm talking about. Probably not. Probably not. But it did resonate with me. I mean, there are situations that call for a 60 to 70 hour workweek sometimes or for some late nights. But I personally don't think that should be a way of life. That should be the exception, not the norm. Now, that might mean, you won't become the next Elon Musk. But that doesn't mean you won't be successful. That's right. And you know, I'm not alone with that thinking either. Back in 2014, ink columnist menda zetlin, she had a few things to say about the downsides of working too hard. This is from the ink YouTube channel and here she is with several reasons why you don't want to hustle too much. Not too long before Christmas this past Christmas, I read a story in the news about this woman named mita diran, who actually worked herself to death. She was working for young and Rubicon in Indonesia and right before she died, she tweeted 30 hours of work and still going strong. It was kind of a wake-up call because it's around the same time I was not working 30 hours in a row, but I was working long days and something like 7 days a week. And it penetrated my skull that what I was doing was not sustainable, and it wasn't leading to good work either. So I started really thinking about all of us who are entrepreneurs or in business for ourselves working ridiculous hours and thinking we can just barrel on through. That really doesn't work. Quantity kills quality. You may think, oh, you can do this. And then you can do this. And then you can do another thing. But the more things you pile into a brain that's overloaded, the less you'll do each of them well. So if you need to be excellent in your work as all of us do working at too many things too hard too many hours is going to make that very hard to achieve. It matters how much sleep you get. It matters for your brain function. It matters for your mood. It matters for your ability to lead and communicate with people. Arianna Huffington has become a sleep evangelist after she actually fell asleep at her desk fell face forward and broke her cheek. So before you get to that point, try and make sure you get a reasonable amount of sleep every night. It really does matter. Another reason that you need a lot of rest and to be at your best is that your judgment is impaired. And if you're running a company, that's something your company can't afford. If you're making bad decisions because you're tired and you're not thinking clearly, your whole enterprise could go down. Now, I know that Steve Harvey probably doesn't like men's advice there, but it resonates with me. Anyway, there are 7 more tips that she gives. You could search for ten reasons. You need to stop working so hard on YouTube and you can hear them all there. We hope that today's episode was helpful. Maybe it offers a little bit of perspective on that hustle culture that sometimes brainwashes us to believe that the only way to have a successful life is to work 24 7. One thing that's helped me over the last few years is taking a hard look at life and redefining what success actually looks like. For me, it isn't having $200 billion in my bank account. It isn't having private jets that double as my personal Uber of sorts. I don't have to keep up with the Joneses anymore. And once I have that realization and recalibrated what success means to me, I've got a lot more out of my life personally and professionally. And that's what matters most, honestly, right? With all of that, we'll see you here next week as we continue season.

"To be successful here in this interview with fader. I mean, you just have to put in 80 hour 80 to a hundred hour weeks every week. If other people are putting in 40 hour workweeks and you're putting in a hundred hour work weeks, then even if you're doing the same thing, you know that in one year you will achieve what they achieve. You will achieve in four months when it takes them a year to achieve. Again, it's all about that work ethic, right? So now we're talking about living a life of just getting a couple of hours of sleep each night and working what? 12 hours a day every day, even on weekends? That's hustle, right? And again, if anybody wants to point out that Elon Musk probably can't become the world's richest person working 40 hours a week or that Elon Musk is way more successful than say me. You'd be a 100% right, of course. There's only one Elon Musk. And just because you don't achieve an Elon Musk level success, though, it doesn't mean that you can't achieve success. What works for Gary Vaynerchuk or grant cardone or Steve Harvey, it doesn't mean that it's the right path for you. Okay, let's take a quick break and we'll dig into more of this right after that. Before the break we learned a little bit about hustle culture, things like work ethic, sleep, but there's more to this hustle culture too. It's not just about those things, but also that everything is up to you. You're in control of your own destiny. You can create your own success, and that's honestly a lot of pressure. And there's very much a keeping up with the Joneses sort of involved with it. Now that used to mean buying the same luxury car that your neighbor had, you know, to show the rest of the neighborhood that you're just as successful. But these days, it's all about what kind of positive hustle and grind content you can put out on Instagram or TikTok and you gotta keep up with those appearances. Yeah, I actually caught up with somebody to dig into this more. And to get that perspective specifically of somebody within Gen Z, she's somebody that wrote a piece all about hustle culture for Business Insider recently. Who's that? Well, I'll let her introduce herself. My name is Kennedy hill. I am from California and I am a writer for a lot of things I do a lot of freelance. I do have a staff job right now for a newsletter. Pretty much whoever pays me to put some mortgage together. That's where you'll find me. How nice, a freelance journalist. It sounds like Kennedy is hustling for herself. Is that right? Well, yes, because she feels like she and the rest of her Gen Z peers sort of have to, whether they like it or not. For our generation, especially the traditional system just doesn't work anymore. It used to be you go to high school, get good grades, you go to college, you'll get a job, as long as you know you don't get fired or something bad happens, you're gonna pretty much reset financially. But by the time it got to us, that doesn't work anymore. We see so many people going to college they graduate with this expensive degree that go into job market, they either can't find employment or they find employment and for jobs that require a degree they pay minimum wage. And especially women and people of color were always excluded from that from that system, but now we're seeing it on a generational level, right? Now everyone is excluded from this kind of white picket fence lifestyle of just if you stick to this track, you're going to be successful. And that track just doesn't work anymore. It wasn't built to be sustainable. And so we're the generation where I really like trying to be sustainable when it comes to climate change and even just the job market, right? All the systems have failed. By the time we got here. And so for gen zs, we're like, okay, if I'm not going to have, if I'm not going to have social security, if I'm not going to be able to get a decent salary with this degree that cost me a $100,000, I'm really going to have to work and look out for myself, right? Because me just getting a job isn't going to be enough. And so we've kind of had to develop this sense where it's like the only person who's going to guarantee my financial future is myself. If I go out there if I make myself a job, if I work as a contractor, if I'm able to negotiate more, it's like we just have to put in so much more thought and dedication into just making a living for ourselves where I think cruise generations didn't have to in such a short amount of time when they're so young. And for the people that want to live like that, that's great. But to Kennedy's point, not everybody in her generation necessarily does, but they feel like they have to hustle. To them, they feel like the system that was set up so nicely for generations before them doesn't actually work anymore. And so many of them have to set out for themselves. But there's a big downside for those that are forced to do that. When you're going at it alone, there's really no safety nets, right? So I graduated in 2020, which means that there was job freezes, right? And so.

So i don't. I don't know how you could be sure that. He's the shooter. Rfk junior does not believe it was her hanser hand. Yeah he believes in a second shooter right. of course he also doesn't believe you should ever be vaccinated for anything so yeah that is fun. I love that. He's anti vaccine. They you know you're you're you're able to catch of their offspring here and you know there was one notable several story lines in this sale that that always intrigued me at one of them will be we'll get to it. we're the PIN hookers said and we didn't really get a chance last week to talk about the keeneland decisions and some of the pin hook the objects of affection that particularly among the first crops. I've just a lot of times you can read tea leaves and some of the a pin hookers whose work you respect the most but one of one day I want to bring up in terms of activity and that was seagull Segal associates people and Tim Hills and Tim Hills has been winning raises a longtime longtime. He's in the process of having a really good year and has got a couple of Nice New York breads that you know that one over the summer and and they ended up knocking down the the sale topper which was an honor Code Colt the bill right ler presented a hundred and nine hundred thousand came back with the canned theros Colt from Indian creek for a hundred and thirty so one hundred ninety one hundred thirty and that was yesterday. I saw a bunch of others as well so here's the yet thousands yeah the trend and they were buying two year old. I think early this year too. I'm paying big money for you know relatively speaking so yeah really interesting I read the article about I'm not familiar with them but I think I think the purchase warranted thirty thirty thousand dollars two year old perhaps it oh be up through the it's. I'm drawn a blank on that on the New York bread that visit New York bread that Tim Hills and I'm going to have to go look for it. that is this is going to be is going to be notable here going into the the next round of of big apple showcase about every about every six expand weeks it saves for those that aren't aware and I just pulled it off because I was. I was curious myself. Tim Hills goes back to the beginning of the recording of of statistics by Equa base and if those aren't aware he's one two thousand and thirty one races Yeah Tim bills just reliably you you know two to three dozen winners a year and when he operated a bigger you know when he's a little younger rated a bigger stable and would win seventy five to one hundred races a year but he's been winning at a professional rate for his whole career is terrific terrific operation. Yeah I kind of remember him even when he was young coming up in New England Kennedy Hill you know it's out very was listed. I'll go back and refresh my memory but had some distinct think impressions have been back then McGee been around and you know anything about this entity he'd go capital at it well. He's he's been I mean that's that's his. That's his going concern forever. The one of the one of my favorites it's that he trained of course most recently Qarafa part of that that triumvirate of New York bred surfers that that it heads for years but he had bare named Toll Taker Bernstein Maher that would remember her. She was just terrific and that was that was I think the first you know Tim Hills Scott to be about got to be almost twenty years ago. I would think AH that I've sure Saratoga. Probably I latched on. You know who you know who would give me the back ground ground on on on Tim Hills would be John Pirata because John Because Tim had big New England big the New Jersey big another New Jersey base operation they so many that you you know the grew out of you know the colts neck ocean port corridor crank. They were very active. I it's they they were one of the big one of the big outfits that kept buying on a steady basis jason the two days when it comes to the when it comes to the pin hookers said Kerry frommer who I I never got a complete fleet count on what she bought at Keeneland but she was mighty active at this sale she was and uh I think she highs price which she bought a jumpstart for one hundred thirty s that was one of the day one I think yeah but and another one she bought the upstart for one hundred twenty now there's the first crop sire you you know and he was selling really well. We talked about him last week. Airdrie Stud you know they get that type worse and he's got a lot of cigarettes and a lot of people like them so he's one to keep an eye out for next year and you'll you'll see this for back a two year old
