"Plus the Kenmore Brandolini to do is put together. Oh. Maybe a few billion dollars. You think you can do it? Probably not. The go-to guy on this one. I don't think. Well, you're you're not the only one who is kind of passing. Let's let's put it that way. Because today's the deadline four o'clock eastern time to submit bids and at this point goose egg. They've had no bids to take on this iconic one hundred twenty five year old retail or the only person who has publicly stated interest is the chairman Eddie Lampert. Who's hedge fund is put together an offer for four point six billion dollars. But hasn't filed the paperwork now it's possible that he does at three o'clock in the afternoon that that's quite possible. Whether or not that bid is considered something that will be approved by the bankruptcy court still yet to be determined by let's face it. If this deadline passes, and there is no paperwork filed there are two options. One Sears can extend the deadline or they could also very swiftly. Go into liquidation. So probably know by the end today a little bit more about the fate of this. I kinda company it's hard to believe that I understand that Sears. K mart stores have kind of been going downhill anybody who's been in one recently kind of concede that to mean you walk in the stores. Just a lot of the shelves are bare or it just seems like they're sort of kind of a mess, in fact, but that Kenmore brand I mean, most of us grew up with that as the iconic brand your parents went to get a washer dryer, or dishwasher, whatever they went to Sears and got a Kenmore it's hard to believe that that's on the auction block and nobody's taken it. And I mean, even go back to the early nineteen hundreds. I mean, Sears was the original Amazon. Send their catalog to people not just in the city, but way out in rural America, and people could order anything and have it sent right to them. I mean, it was it was an incredible thing. People have houses that were ordered on Sears. I mean, they're not huge massive houses with their houses. So it's it's kind of hard and difficult to see that. But that being said what we've seen Carson's in Boston store and toys R us and sports authority and all of these brands that you know, we're pretty healthy and strong through the eighties nineties just kind of crumble and fall away. All right, Ryan. Well, thank you so much. We'll be watching this closely today to see what happens to just something that I think most of us have seen as a staple of America for like, you said, you know, well over one hundred years, and it's hard to believe that we're at this point with it. Thanks so much and happy new year you too. All right. Thanks that is ABC's Ryan burrow. So this is one that will definitely be watching. It's so funny that Ryan was talking about the houses you did you used to be able to buy a home on through a Sears catalog? And in fact, teen sharp, we share an office with dean, and I am Alex and John are all in one big office and over his desk. He's got three pictures of the blueprints of the the Sears bet. The Sears houses that you could buy right out of the catalog fascinating. I mean, they're these cool old Victorians. Well, I'll see if I can actually snap a picture of it. I'll run back into the office a little later this morning and put it up. But it's it's amazing that a place where you used to be able to buy a house ablaze that was a steeple. I remember we always went to Sears to get our tires. We would treadmills whatever it happened to be. You went to Sears. I remember that is a big place where we went and got closed by anything that was kind of a major expense. Are we felt like we went to Sears for in fact, when I was in eighth grade. My parents got me a new bed for my birthday and Christmas birthday. I don't remember. It's horrible. Anyway, be Christmas. Because I remember. Going in and on this bed. It was this beautiful. I still have it actually it's a beautiful white iron dead. And it was from a nineteen o six seers catalogue. So I've got this really cool old vintage bed that weighs about eight million pounds that the lake one of the feats even broke off of or my cousin Allen came in. And well did it back on for me? I mean, there's so much. I love this bed. But I remember going in and it had to be Christmas because it was also my parents gave me the cassette to the top gun soundtrack. And I remember sitting on my bed in with no sheets or anything on it. Just the bed the mattress and me listening over and over and over to that cassette. And what a great memory that was in. What a big girl. I felt like, you know, it must've been like thirteen at the time. But I thought man I've really made it I've got this fancy new bed. I've got the top gun soundtrack. I can put stuff on my walls. Like, I'm finally old enough to put pictures up on my walls. That's a good time for me. Serious has a nice place in my heart. Thanks to that. So, but that bad man it stood the test of time. I just hope that never trying to move it or pick it up, and it falls on my foot because it will crush me. Otherwise, it's a it's a darn sturdy bed. So just sad. Sad to see. This happen was the IRS California might not get a pot Bank anytime soon treasurer, John Chung says an independent study found it's too risky for the state to run a cannabis Bank to help businesses get around federal laws that still ban marijuana use and sales and anything associated with it. He told KFI's Jane wells, the state or private group would have to put up a billion dollars just to get the Bank up and running the study provided that we have greater efficiencies and amongst our various government agencies. We can reduce some of the friction in regards to trying to ramp up private-sector action by the financial institutions, the state of Washington, moved ahead of the state of California. In regards to legalization of cannabis. And so they're banking sector is at a more advanced state just because they've had a few more years to work on it. Where in the banking sector is this. I mean where is it? Where are these special banks that investors are creating sort of like, you know? Yeah. Investors are creating a Bank their own Bank. And somehow getting like state permission. They are smaller banks and credit unions that have been more willing to take risk other getting reassurances from the state of Washington, not from Washington DC from the state of Washington to move forward. Earlier this week a report indicated the state's not getting as much revenue as expected from pod sales the industry blames overregulation Erin bender KFI news. That is not what I meant to hit. All right. So I'm looking for this be I just dropped this piece of paper either that or I just threw it into the. Just recycled what I was looking for wanted to give you some tips on the rose parade here. They are. I did just throw them out. Keep the studio halfway clean. So I don't lose stuff. And what did I do threw it away? So we've got some tips for you about the rose parade because they've got a bunch of closures. And what I thought was cool is in the OC registered this year. They actually printed out if you wanna be a part of the rose parade if you want to like help with some of the floats some of the websites that you can go to or what they're looking for. If you want to be part of this. And I thought you know, what how much fun would this be if you could somehow get involved with this. You know, we always see that. You know, the TV reporters who go out there in the morning, and you see these teams of people all around these different floats in they're still putting them together and drill and stuff and hammer and stuff and putting the flowers on that sort of thing will they still need that apparently. And there are a put this up. I'll tweeted out at JJ L KFI up put the link out because they are still looking for commercial builders. There are others different float companies that need somebody to help them when it comes to viewing. If you wanna watch the floats. Here's where they're advising you to go, the Rosemont pavilion, the rose float plazas south now. Let's see I think that you do have to buy tickets to get some of these and they're about fifteen bucks a piece, but that's sharp, seating dot com. So if you want to be one of the people who actually gets to sit in the bleachers. I'm pretty sure this is where you have to sharp seating dot com. Now when you're trying to get there, though, this is gonna be tough the to tend to the one thirty four northbound.

"WBZ NewsRadio ten thirty weatherwise. You're gonna you're looking at the same thing for the next couple. Of days only throw in, some showers more showers and thunderstorms six, one, seven, two, five four. Ten thirty it's WBZ where giant microscope down on Kenmore square and Anthony samarco's bringing all his Allie Laforce he has, to bear his, historical acumen to Kenmore square well you know it's. Funny because when I think about this area the first thing I always try, to tell people, is that the areas actually filled in the marshes of the back bay which actually went west from the area of today the public garden right through, to Sewell's point or what is, today Kenmore square was something in a lot of ways that created in. Some ways very billable place but it was in. Eighteen twenty one that they created the mill dam on the, mill. Dam, was a road on top of a, damn the dam the Charles river and a connected the foot of beacon hill Charles street to. Sewell's point at Kenmore square and the idea was. By damming the Charles river there was no title. Flow twice daily to the back bay marshes well throughout the eighteen twenties and eighteen thirties that, was a second means of access, either, to, or, out, of Boston. Was a toll road but the concept was by damming the Charles river you call Stagnation of the marshes and stagnating water breeds malaria and it became a public health hazard it called itself in some ways not just nuisance but the city of Boston, alderman called it, a noxious of Luwia if you can imagine the. Aroma that must've emanating from the back bay marshes eighteen twenty s to the, eighteen fifties it, was something that really needed to be filled and during that period the backpay was in Phil thanks to John south earn a steam shovels with soil, brought from Nita Massachusetts so the, back bay beginning in the late eighteen fifties continued out all the way. To Kenmore square and of course we saw most. Of the back bay built by the eighteen ninety nine thousand, nine. Hundred, that was small infill taking place steam, shovels were brand new well they were and John south was very well-known man who owned the. Globe locomotive works in south Boston he had made. His claim Fame and the sugar plantations of Cuba where the invented dredging machines one of the concepts. Here was his south or steam, shovel was something, that only dredged the marshes of the back bay in the Fenway. But it was also the fact that they stripped away the hills of, Nita Massachusetts so if one knows route one. Twenty eight a Google street that area today as. Terribly flat it's which, five news is located well, in that instance of, the eighteen fifty s and eighteen sixties they were, hills. In Needham in those were dredged away by his steam shovels to bring the soil by railroad twenty. Four hours a day six days a week for thirty years now in that instance you know the back bay itself roughly from Arlington street, to Massachusetts avenue was a. Concise, area but west of Massachusetts avenue you began to see this area somewhat languish even in the eighteen. Eighties eighteen nineties there wasn't Very much in that area though of course the. Mill dam or beacon street today was something that didn't allow people means of access into and out of the city but by the latter. Part of the nineteenth and early twentieth century the crossroads of what has stay Burke. Line avenue beacon street come all avenue was known as governor's, square isn't that interesting so you, know governor square was something a. Lot, of ways that was again the crossroads and the entrance into. The new back bay Boston mind you this is man made land and the newly created tract development they're not ranch houses they're beautiful townhouses, but in this instance that whole area. Was, something that began, to change and by the period of the turn of the twentieth century you begin to see, such places you mentioned the, hotel Buckminster it was like the flat iron, building between a beacon street and of. "Before the Braemar that was a cafeteria in the, eighties that's right I remember going to that place I don't remember the name of huge cavernous place but it was, the place that a lot of b you workers would. Actually go to because they had fantastic specials, but it was opened late at night as a, thing and I think a lotta times the people if they were maybe at the dance club bar whatever it was. That they actually stopped there. For something solidifying to actually fill their stomachs before they actually returned home but that was the thing it was something in a lot. Of ways that was off the beaten track so to speak from the back bay and Massachusetts, avenue but once you cross through that little stretch, between Massachusetts avenue, and the beginning, of Kenmore square you entered into this. Area that was lit up beautiful colored lights the citgo sign it was almost like Boston's Times Square and, I think a lot of ways. That was something that really was exciting for not just young people but Those of us that were taking either beacon street or Kamath avenue how to chestnut. Hill and I think one. Of the concepts here is that the area itself was something that had evolved somewhat differently than the other part of the back bay. So it was really quite a fun place as one other building try to get a handle, on before we switch to the the deep history, there was I, believe it was, a hotel upstairs downstairs was a jazz. Club and maybe listeners can help me with that you could go see jazz there there was a couple, of Computer games lobby but there was a jazz club.
