Grossman draws bases-loaded walk in 9th, Braves beat Marlins
"Robbie Grossman drew a walk with the bases loaded in the 9th as the braves walked off the Marlins to one I'm glad I could do anything to help the team win a game and fortunately we came out on the better side of that The braves led one nothing behind an Austin Riley Homer and 6 shutout innings from Bryce elder Braves closer Kenley Jansen then blew the save in the 9th setting up Grossman's heroics The praise racked up their fourth straight win as they closed within two games of the mets Jim Hart Atlanta

"The top of the order. Dylan floral on for the 42nd time zero two three saves and a 3.76 ERA. Kenley Jansen warming for the bottom of the 9th or top of the 9th rather. Richard blyler won inning one hit the rest zeros. Fluoro is the fourth Marlins pitcher of the night. Then he misses outside in low ball one to Acuna who has struck out twice and walked in the game. Each of his first three plate appearances against the start of Cabrera, who's on look for a tough luck loss here tonight. We love to see floral late in games too. I really do hope that they give them some later endings as this last month of the season. One O two Acuna is in their first strike. At 15 saves for the Marlins last year. And he did well in the closer's role. On one one Acuna hits it foul toward the Miami dugout. How we doing on trivia? I can give you my guess and I know Kyle got his guess. Okay. We asked what pitcher holds the Marlins record most strikeouts in a single game. I said AJ Burnett. I said Josh Johnson. Sorry. You guys are both wrong. Oh, okay. One two raccoon is fouled off to the since we've already established that we're wrong. Can now we get a hint

Arcia's tiebreaking single in 9th lifts Braves past Giants
"Orlando arcia drilled a single in the last of the 9th scoring pinch runner Phil Gosselin as the Atlanta Braves nipped the San Francisco Giants to the one The braves wrote a solo home run by Travis darnold all the way to the 8th inning when the Giants pieced together three singles and a walk to tie the game at one Darnold said holding the Giants to just run was key Bases loaded nobody out against that team to only give up one run That's huge for us and they had the momentum going their way and for us to only give up one I would say the momentum went back our way Both starters had strong outings the braves max freed went 7 plus striking out 8 Well the Giants Logan Webb went 7 and struck out 7 Kenley Jansen picked up the win in relief for the braves Gary mckillop's Atlanta

"Already buster bleacher tweets for a Tuesday T Jones is up first at T and J 6 two 9 T Jones writes and buster does losing two of three in Baltimore over the weekend foreshadow a tough year in The Bronx or is that just baseball Susan? I think you can draw something out of it. Look, in the Yankees playing against the Orioles, there is a special type of pressure, it feels like for any team playing Baltimore, you know, calling bikinis, talked about that last week. About how the Orioles will effectively potentially determine the winner of the American League. And the Yankees last year, I don't want to use the word struggle because they took what 12 to 7 or 12 out of 19 or 11 out of 19. But it turned out to be the difference in the division because Tampa Bay won 18 out of 19. And when you look at the lineups, it's kind of mind boggling. Wouldn't you say Taylor? Absolutely. It makes me think, I think I put a rundown last night. Do the Yankees have an Orioles problem. I feel like that's gonna be on sports talk radio. They do today. Yeah, they're lined up definitely feel stagnant early in the year. That's for sure. Billy flanagan at Billy Flynn is up next. He writes, and how many games at bats innings pitched or whatever can we stop saying, it's a small sample size. It's too early to tell. We praise the players that start out hot, but give a pass to the players that play poorly to start a season. Well, Billy, we can make a decision as reporters and fans, how much we want to react to, you know, last week we had a lot of fun with Stephen Kwan and his great start to the season, for example, for the guardians. I will tell you front offices kind of look at it as, you know what, we need to see about a week. Excuse me, about a month to 6 weeks of action before we start to determine actions on teens, rosters, lineups, players, that sort of thing. Our guy, Matt at kayaking Smith, quote, tweeted the athletics Dave O'Brien. Here's the tweet from Dave. For those wondering about the argument at the end, ump told Kenley Jansen, he was out of time and couldn't keep warming up, snitch said that was BS because they stopped him coming in to check for sticky substances as they do all closers and he needed to throw a couple more warmup pitches and then Matt writes in integrity of the game is important and the pace of play push is key for the league, but player health should be a priority, right? Shouldn't the league ease these rules, especially with such long bullpen walk distances in some parks. You know, I can do both sides on this. On one hand, yeah, I did what snits and we had the braves the day after that incident happened. And snicker felt like, look, give him a warning, do something different than the way he handled it right from the get go. And on the other hand, the rules of the rules, right? I mean, if the umpires are going to bend rules for one player, what happens the next time he comes up with another player. And the players know the rules. And Kenley does take time to get out of the bullpen. He takes a little bit extra time. So maybe by doing it this way, the next time he'll speed up. But it did feel like in that moment that Bill Miller could have handled a little bit differently. I like that we're analyzing the pace of these guys walks from the bullpen right now. This is awesome. Well, you remember, as an Orioles fan, you remember Lee Smith. Yes, I do. The clothes are of the Orioles who they would put a clock on him and how long it would take and to get from the bullpen to the moon. I think it was sometime like three minutes Taylor, does that sound about right? Yeah. That sounds about right. Damn, that is a long time. Speed it up, guys. Come on, Adam wolf at Adam wolford and writes, and hey guys, buster, in your time covering the Padres, could you have ever imagined the fan support the team is receiving right now, specifically their home opener the other night. Adam I had a great conversation the other day with the owner of the Padres Peter seidler and I said to him, he said, I never could have imagined the support like this. It is a great atmosphere in San Diego. The fans are responding to this team. I think the leadership of the team in terms of marketing the club and they've done a great job and, you know, Peter was very positive. He, of course, the grandson of Walter O'Malley and there's been someone who's done a great job. I think in terms of engaging fans since he took over the Padres. Max Moreno at max Moreno three is up next. He writes in hunter green throws 39 pitches at a hundred miles an hour plus, while awesome to watch, I can't help but think the human arm is just not made to withstand this kind of stress. Maximum with you like these days when you see radar gun ratings like that, you know, part of you is excited and part of you cringes a little bit, I hope he holds up the one thing I would say in watching hunter green throw. There's an ease to it. It's kind of like when the first time you saw her all this chap and throw. He just looks very comfortable throwing it high velocity. Last one for today, PK Steinberg writes in, dug up about two dozen dandelions today. What my GAR gardening above replacement. Yeah, what do you think buster? Yeah, I think it's like a plus 6. I think 18 dandelions a day in April is a pretty good ratio. So if you're doing 24, I think that makes you an all star gardener. That's awesome. I knew you would have a good answer for that. "He lost it in the end zone. He said his dad wouldn't have wanted it to be any other way to for him to have lost it in the end zone which was really really cool and i was thinking last night as i heard about this story. You know i think. I if i was an athlete or even okay so when my dad died i was gone for a week. I was like. I'm i'm like hyper emotional john. How long did you take off. Your dad died. My dad died on a sunday. I worked monday and tuesday and took wednesday thursday friday off to to get ready for his funeral. On saturday i went right back to work. Wouldn't do higher. You're much more emotional than me. You took you took a week off when your dog died. Took a week off. Well let's face it. You would take a week off if you've got a hangnail but the death like knocks you for a loop. It really does. It really does or hey. What about what about last night. Were you nervous when the packers were going at it. There in the lions looked to be competitive with jared goff honestly. I was driving home. I wasn't even attention to the game. That's a good better there. You go gambling machines. Attention to the game bergman. Are you watching peyton. Eli yeah. I like peyton. Eli when it got to the point of the brett farve stuff. I don't really like listening to brett farve period so i just kind of tune that out but the rest of it was good. I like listening to them. I think they do a good job. I think they talk about things that are interesting to the game. I can watch the game. I don't need somebody telling me what's happening. I can watch what's happening on the field so them talking more interesting to me yeah. I wonder if it's to winning. What's it is it doing ratings. What peony light yellow bit. Not as is that. A legitimate is the average joe. Fan watching peyton and eli more. I think it's like five to one in favor. Of the traditional telecast. But that doesn't matter. I mean what they're looking for is buzz and they're getting it. Yeah they definitely are. They definitely are so. I wanted to mention something about the dodgers. So kenley jansen is the most Besmirched that a word besmirched athlete in los angeles. He has been criticized on a regular basis by everyone on this show. I think maybe except hey herrera you can league. I know except you. You've you've been supportive kendra wrecked and you know. He is allowed to earn runs in his last twenty one innings. Now i think he has regained elite closer status and i still get people going at me on twitter saying oh yeah when he blows his first game. It's going to be in the playoffs. And all that stuff. He is right now. He's the best closer in the game. Here's what i'll say about kenley. And i don't have any hard evidence back this up but greg. I think you'll agree with me when kinley comes into a game. My first gut reaction is ono. Really like i would almost rather see anyone else. Come into a game then kenley and what's weird about. That is statistically he's their best option. But i- greg are you are you with me on that when he comes in when they get a shot of him warming up in the bullpen. Or when joe davis says kenley jansen back to pitch the ninth. I'm like oh god here we go. Yeah it's one of those situations and he actually. Joe davis even says it to. He goes buckle up. Here comes kenley. you're right. this is a real thing. I don't know. I still get a little bit nervous but i mean over the last month i felt i felt okay about it but at the same time once it gets to the playoffs. I don't think i'm gonna be as okay with last year. When he was unusable. In the postseason i mean i think he is going to be the legit closer of this team in the postseason most likely. But let's see what happens when he gets a guy on bass or ways and he always gets guys one game to play off. Managers gives us seven innings and we go to blake trying to the eighth and we go to kenley in the night and we backup. Leave sherzer in. Just don't take him out. I don't want i don't want training. I don't want kenley. Lectures one hundred and twenty pitches. He can go hundred twenty about that. One game playoff if we do wind up in. And i don't think we're going to is that. We're playing the cardinals and adam wainwright they'll have setup for some out of it and the other day. He looked really good. Yeah he's been good. He beat us Two weeks ago when we were in saint louis. So yeah that's that's my only concern about a one game. That's why put all that money on the dodgers winning division. I think we're gonna win the division. I believe we're going to win the division. I think that's what we should put out there that we're gonna win the division. I think we're gonna. I'm gonna use the secret to put us in the division crown. Make it thirty k. No yeah fifty if you did want. I'm betting on them to win. The game playoff. Here's mason. Here's the weird thing if you just look at the european analytics guy. Yeah if you look at this analytically okay. The giants are probably going to win on average this year. If you take a twelve game sample size the giants win eight or nine out of twelve if they do that. The dodgers have to win ten or eleven out of twelve. And that's really hard to do. I don't think the padres are putting up much of a fight you know and the giants played them six time and we've got him three times but six of the twelve or against the padres so let's say the padres just somehow figure out a way to win one.

"Than than they were tanking. Why you watch houston's gonna finished with the number one picnic what's next burgi. Just go right to horry horry. What do you got. Oh thank you. Chris chris chris online now. Same age though. Yeah all right so yesterday. When i was leaving work. I hit the scan button on my. Am radio hit the scam. Yeah so. I came across his story them working yesterday on a sunday. I work i edit against what the nfl on the side on. The sunday's yeah so i hit the scan button and i came across this thing called the mulu experiment. Have you heard of this. No okay so the mulu experiment is where they took fifteen cows. I mean did. They took cows in an experiment held in germany and in fifteen days. You can potty train a cow. You're wondering why potty train accounts right yeah well. The urine contains nitrogen when it's mixed with their fees it becomes ammonia which is bad for the environment. So now if towels up to like eight gallons a day and in two thousand nine nitro was nitrous nitrous oxide. Make seven percent of the us greenhouse gases according to the environmental protection agency. Now should two questions to this. Should we use the scan but more to come up with topics like this or should we. Potty trainer cows well the potty training of the cows sort environmental you know just for the environment reasons for the invi- loved the environment. I think we should do things to help the environment. Don't tell anybody i'm for the environment and listen a question you need. Dancer is the one she never answers. Which is who's paying for this party paying trading cows. That's expensive but it takes fifteen days for these cows actually translate eleven out of sixteen. Cows learned how to learn to on specifics. But who are you paying to be a cow. A potty trainer farmers i guess i i need a cost benefit analysis on my desk stat. The other part of the question is the scan button you know. I have certain preset buttons on my car that i use to what. What are your preset buttons. All right i'll tell you mine right now all right because they just got a new car so it's got everything under the sun yup k. Preset number one seven ten. Espn amen preset number two. Our biggest competitor figure that out three-set number three howard stern yup preset number four yacht rock. God that doesn't surprise me in the slightest you're so yacht rock and preset number five classic rock from serious. That's it those are my five. Let's see so mine are seven ten. I don't listen to our biggest competitor Fm they're owned by our biggest competitor guest in the studio coast which sometimes has basically yacht rock by the way k rock. Kfi jack fm. I'm trying to think about ninety. Eight point seven my favorite. I've lot and then i my. Am's i've got ten seventy which is the news and seven ninety which is the talk and six forty which is talk so there's a lot of buttons but i'm not i don't go to Serious as much as you. i'm. I'm i'm a big trust. Turn stern's the greatest. Well he's he's awesome. I do listen to stern. Burgi got one more. I can do one more all right john. This one's pretty much for you because there is a better corn to at mgm. That has a sixteen game partly on the line tonight. He has the lion's plus four hundred twenty five dollars to win seven hundred twenty six thousand nine hundred fifty nine dollars so the question for you. Ireland got the lion's plus eleven and a half. Yeah plus four hundred. He's the guy going with the money so so the lines after a win lines need to win outright for him to win the bet. Okay so the question do you. Ireland is why are you so bad parlays and this guy is so good by the way i am the partly king. That's never going to the fact that you don't remember this shocks me two years ago or three years ago the last time you one mythical money on the final day the only thing that could prevent you from winning mythical money was if i hit like a seventeen parlay and you know it came down to monday night and a missed extra point cost the mythical money tight and you lost right. But that's the thing. I by the way because i lost a couple of days this weekend. And you won you with your. Yeah greg one fifteen thousand dollars. He was three for three. That's actually three for five. Actually three for four five. I don't know why you bet the game straight up. A one game only screw hit just eight four and a six week if i would have bet on my only would've won a couple of thousand just because i would. The two losses would've burned. All i need to do is make a bigger parley next week. So i'm going from three teams to fourteen next week. And i'll catch you by the end of the month and kenley jansen has thirty four saves so i'm about to steal ten thousand you're going to wipe me out of ten grand more. That's do you lose the ten grand. John yes oh that's even better swing huge swing action by mace. I thirty five saves for kenley jansen. I couldn't believe how do we consider burgi to be doing on jump. All i think dumpy burgi had a good time man but remember he's leading. The league in home runs readings right. Are you like vlad guerrero. You're like you're basically on your way to the triple crown. Yes i am on the way the triple crown batting about three eighty five. I have fifty seven home. Runs a hundred and twenty three to the triple crown. You could call me dumpy burning totally. Well that's what i'm saying if this was me and i sold my soul to the devil to be named dumpy birdie but i'm the greatest ever badly mike trout. Be worth it. If if you had to sell your soul to the devil for something and make it fun. What would it be eight. Seven seven seven ten. Espn eight seven..

"We're done with them different. But when they tried to a little rough patch. It's like barely noticed. No booze no mamo. It's different because there is an l. at the end of kenley janssen's appearances. Exactly if you lose the game as the closer you are the grace of all your the go right. You're the goat now. Kenley kenley. I can't imagine anybody's boom. I've been in parking tacoma in a couple of weeks. But i can't imagine anybody's boone. Kenley at this point. He's twelve of this last twelve in save opportunities and i think this is the year that he can actually and member last year. He didn't really contribute during the postseason. Julio he stepped into that role and was on the mound when the dodgers closed out the world series. I think this is the year that kenley contributes in a meaningful way during the playoffs. Yeah you're right and also moma was that when kenley lost. He lost badly in the playoffs. So people have the memory of the offs of kenley blowing. Leads giving up three run home runs. That's that's why it's different a little bit. I think it's a kenley. I think this is something about confirmation bias. If you've decided kenley cannot be the closer anymore if you just hold that. Oh he's lost his velocities not the same guy. You have the couple of playoff failures on your mind than anything. He slips up and any little rough patch. You go right to that bad bad. Yeah but it's because he loses the game. That's the that's very blue. You blow the eighth inning. If you blow the game you blow the game. it's also year two for blake training whereas its year seven or eight for ten leon more station since the beginning since he was asked right right well the minor leagues and all that but sure but for the most part he's been the center eleven years i don't know the exact timing but still ten versus to say secondly all right was that killing killing to me kenley just gets a lot of flack. You're right when you lose when you blow the savings both save. That's it but i think it's also that he's been here for such a long time. People have long memories and they they tend to remember the bad stuff and not the good ones like for whatever reason like the bad ones sick to him more than they stick to try and into. I think the expectation is there kennedy right at the beginning of the year. I made a. Yeah mythical money bet on kenley jansen saving thirty five games here. Ireland scoffed at me. He he told me. I was absolutely insane but i had full faith in kenley. This year and the velocity was up early in the season. I i felt really really good about that. And he's definitely going to get that thirty five saves thirty two right now. He's thirty two. Yeah he's he's getting a thirty five by the way. Congratulations just had his head. His fourth kid his fourth kid kenley jansen did he was on paternity leave. He's back now you last night. I don't have to tell you dodger. Fans we won and the giants won. We beat arizona. They beat san diego. San diego has just drifted terribly. We slept them now. The giants around the verge please padres beat him once just beat him once but i noticed talking to a texan with dodger fan last night. Who said he's kind of resigned to the fact that we are going to be the wildcard team kind of resigned to that fact. And i'm curious how many people believe that. Can we catch the giants. Still i'll go through the schedule when we get back or are you resigned to the fact that we're going to be in a one gamer. Eight seven seven seven ten. Espn eight seven. Seven seven ten. Espn again we're all over l. A. to you like we are every single day here mason ireland seventeen. Espn and rams head. Coach sean mcvay is gonna join us in about ten minutes. Make sure you're here for that. We're we're talking some dodgers here and dodgers. We mentioned the rotation. Here's the way we go down the stretch. We have been two and a half games back for at least two weeks now. Feels like feels like ever since we lost two out of three to them so listen to the schedules and tell me if we can catch them we go three hundred cincinnati. After tonight. We go three at cincinnati. Cincinnati is in the wild card race then three at colorado three at arizona. They're both drek. Then we get san diego at home awful. And then milwaukee home for three last weekend of the year. We draw milwaukee as last team on our schedule and they are fantastic. Do have anything to play for though. That's the good question. Do they have anything to play for. Is the good question. Because otherwise if they do we're going to see guys like corbin burns and brandon woodruff and their bullpen. Is really good and and chris christian yelich and a high-powered off all that stuff. I'm actually just looking at this right now. They are in first place by thirteen games. You know what they've got absolutely nothing to play for. Is there any chance they could catch the pass dodgers for best the second best record there at eighty nine. We're ninety three so conceivably they could. But i don't know that you necessarily put your foot on the pedal for that right. If my this goes the way. I think it's gonna go and i threw that question out there. Are you resigned to the fact that we will be in a one game. Here's the giant scheduled. Giants atlanta home for three. That is a huge series. Yep so this weekend the braves. We need them to play really well. Then at san diego they falling apart at colorado. They never had it together. Then home to the diamondbacks they are directly as we're seeing right now and then san diego again. Three at home i think. Do you think the schedules are awash washer. Do you think the giants slightly easier schedule. I think it slightly easier. Just because i don't have any belief in in san diego at this point. They seem terrible. Your they fell apart totally. The wheels just totally came up. And i don't understand it. There's still a really good team. They have really. They still have machado still out there and did jesus still out there. They have their their big gun up there. I mean that's that's part of it. Yeah that just that just happened. That was his last. Start against the dodgers so they were falling apart well before lake. Snow is actually really the one good pitcher they had last month. I never darvish off rooting for the padres. But they've got six games against the giants coming up. Go pod squad. Goes slammed diego like the coast slammed diego love. Yeah i mean we're gonna need their hugo. It's not a great theme song that theme song. Yeah san diego love. Let me tell you. Put your ram hands. Up is way better. Butch aram hands up. Yeah oh boy. So are you trying to the fact that we're going to be in this one gamer. And then what's your level of confidence in a one game playoff. Can you and i think now. Probably after what. We've seen the last couple of weeks including his last start when he took a perfect into the eighth. I think it's pretty clear. That max scherzer is going to start the one game right. It seems like it. I mean buehler's been arguably the best pitcher or is has the most wins. But i think the one you trust the most. Yeah been there. He probably is. He's the favourite in vegas now to win the cy young award. He probably is the guy corbin. Burns i think is second and walker. Bueller is sturt. There was a point there where look like walker buehler was going to win the cy young. It all blew up in that one start..

"You have liam hendriks of the white sox with thirty one out of thirty seven potential opportunities. Kenley jansen has thirty for the dodgers out of thirty five and then josh hader razzie glazes. Jake mcgee alex race. And will smith each with twenty nine saves behind those guys but marc milan-san continuing to pace the league with thirty six your league leader and whip on the mound max. Scherzer point eight six walks and hits per innings pitched. Y'all have walker bueller right there. Point nine one corbin burns point nine. Four brandon would drift point nine four so again to brewers in to dodgers at the top of the list when it comes to keep pitching statistical categories but now let's transition over to the standings where we add here as of late thursday night now. Some games are still being completed. You have let's see the atlanta braves looking to hold on the bottom of the ninth. And then the pirates cubs in extra innings starting out in the american league the tampa bay rays currently hold a six and a half game advantage over the new york yankees tampa eight and two in their last ten new york at six and four and they have come back down to earth here recently. But you also have. The boston red sox. Eight games out. There are five up on the blue jays who thirteen games out. All three of those teams the yankees red sox and blue jays are six and four and their last ten so nobody has really made a move there in the national league or the american league. East giant gained some ground on the tampa bay race in the american league central. The white sox they hold a nine and a half game lead. They are winners of three straight. The cleveland indians back over. Five hundred sixty seven and sixty four. They have won four straight in our seven in their last ten but certainly look to be too far back to ultimately gain ground and potentially be a wildcard team. The tigers royals and twins round out the american league central. And then you have the american league west. The houston astros in first place. They have lost two straight five and five in their last ten but look for them oakland. Athletics they've only been. They've lost a game during that stretch. Four and six and their last ten is they are four and a half games out right now in the american league west but the mariners right there. They're still in seventy two in sixty two six and four in their last ten winners of two straightened. Six and a half out in the league west. So where are we looking. Avenue with the american league wild-card well the yankees are the first wildcard there a game and a half up on boston. Who currently occupies that second wildcard seed. But it's a little bit tight after that again. Oakland to behind boston in the wildcard and right behind them the seattle mariners are four games outs and then the toronto blue jays are five games out now. The crazy part is toronto. Is plus one seventeen when it comes to run differential and they are a game behind the mariners are. They're tied in the loss column but have two games to make up. But the mariners are minus fifty six in run differential so the mariners ten games over five hundred but minus fifty six run differential certainly an outlier when it to the rest of the standings now in the national league like i said the braves looking hold on here against the rockies but the rockies have a guy on third with nobody out here in the bottom of the ninth so as i'm talking to you here at eleven thirty they have a one and a half game lead on the philadelphia phillies who have won six straight. So the phillies. Just a streaky team. Started out the month of august. Winning eight games in a row then went in a bit of a slump. Now have won six straight once again behind them. The new york mets game under five hundred at four and a half games out in the national league east and the national league central. The brewers obviously have that division in hand with a ten game lead over the cincinnati reds. A twelve and a half game. Lead over the cardinals. Cardinals are one back in the loss column on the cincinnati reds. And they're six and four in their last ten so making a push here in the central and then out west the dodgers and giants. They are tied as they head into their weekend. Series both squads eighty five and forty nine. The dodgers seven and three in their last ten san francisco five and five. So the dodgers were able to make up two games here over the past couple of games and then san diego fourteen games out four and six and their last ten and certainly only wildcard aspirations there and san diego so looking at that wild of course the first wildcard is the giants or the dodgers and there are thirteen and a half games up on the reds who currently occupy that second wildcard spot by a half a game over the padres. Seventy two and sixty three compared to seventy one in sixty three right behind them you have the philadelphia phillies two games out of that second wildcard spot but only one in the loss column. The saint louis cardinals are only one back in the loss column but two and a half games out as they have some games to make up so it's certainly a let's see four team race. The reds padres phillies and cardinals vying for that second wildcard spot but based on the schedules the reds in the phillies seven the two easiest schedules. It looks like those two teams are going to be battling for that. Second wildcard spot with the padres in the reds are the padres in the cardinals avenue. More difficult time but that does it for today's episode of the mc baseball podcast brought to.

"May well be that there have been more immaculate innings truly thrown than the ones that we have on record In fact the term immaculate inning itself is relatively new with the first reference in the media not really happening until the two thousands. I looked up a Read it discussion on the origin of the term and they settled on probably some blogger in two thousand six. That's a direct quote as the most likely corner of the phrase immaculate inning when kenley jansen through an immaculate inning in twenty seventeen. He didn't even know that that was the thing they had to explain it to me. He said i've been pitching seven or eight years. And i just don't know what that is but now i know and it's awesome. We're also we're also sort of living in the golden era of immaculate innings through the end of the two thousand nine season only sixty two known immaculate innings had ever been thrown which means forty two of the one hundred and four. That i've ever been thrown have happened in just the last decade plus and twenty five of the one hundred and four so about a quarter of them have taken place just since the start of the two thousand seventeen season at the time espionage and seth rosenthal called two thousand seventeen the year of the immaculate inning and that was true there were eight immaculate innings that year which broke the old record of seven which had been set just a few hours earlier in twenty fourteen the record before that was five in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight which didn't even fully included florida. Marlins pitcher hey sue sanchez's near double immaculate inning when he struck out three atlanta braves but on ten pitches in the second inning of a game. And then did the real deal. Three more strikeouts on nine pitches in the following inning so he could have had back to back immaculate innings instead he only had one but twenty nine thousand nine. You could have also called that the year of the immaculate inning because that season also saw eight immaculate innings tying the record sales was the fourth. We've seen twenty twenty one so far but it was made more historic by the fact that it was the third of his career. He also did it twice as part of that barrage of immaculate innings from two thousand nineteen sale join sandy colfax as the only pitcher ever to throw three immaculate innings in a career colfax. Did it for the first time in one thousand nine hundred sixty two. Then he did it again in nineteen sixty three and then he did it again in one thousand nine sixty four so he threw immaculate innings one per year in three straight seasons of course colfax was known as the left arm of god for a reason after that. Nineteen sixty four immaculate inning. He was personally responsible for three of the fifteen or twenty percent of all the immaculate innings had ever been thrown to that point in history and for three of the seven that had happened since nineteen twenty nine because no immaculate innings happen at all between one thousand nine hundred and nine hundred fifty to sail for his part is only responsible for a little bit less than three percent of all the immaculate innings. That have ever happened to date though. Colfax did admittedly have a bit of a head start on him chronologically. Speaking with sale back in the fold the red sox have a much needed extra weapon in their arsenal to try to stave off a late season collapse and make the playoffs but his teammates have to try to be immaculate as well. If you exclude those three starts by sale..

"The Dodgers scored three in the eighth to beat the Rockies five to two will Smith delivered the tiebreaking hit a bases loaded single that scored true the Dodger catcher coming through in the clutch you know I'm still pretty comparable situations you know but a lot of success you know I'm just feeling I'm not afraid to fail in a moment Blake Treinen the fifth of six Dodger pitchers got the win he is four and five Kenley Jansen save number twenty nine Colorado reliever Daniel bard charged with all three eighth inning runs and took the loss Dodger St two and a half block of the giants in the NL west mark Myers Los Angeles

"I don't think a lot of these shortstops are going to be on the move. I think you're gonna see the secondary tier. And i say that with a bit of hesitancy because a lot of these guys are very good ball players but i don't think the best of the best of the shortstop spot or ultimately going to move some of you guys listening will probably disagree with that statement but i think he sticks around in chicago now at first base anthony rizzo. He is one to keep an eye out. I just talked about the red sox how they could use first baseman are. They could use some more offense in that position. You got the new york yankees. Especially if brian ends up with the mets. The yankees aren't gonna want to sit around and watch the mets. Get all that pub. And they're gonna make a move there on. Nelson cruz just went into the division. So i think anthony rizzo is a name to watch out for new york luke. Voight has been injured. So first base is an area of the and i think the pinstripes could ultimately pull that trigger. You also have zac davies a starting pitcher. Where does he ended up. It's tough to say. I mean a lot of teams need arms relievers. Craig kimbrel andrew fien. Where do those guys end up. The mets could be in consideration for those guys as well but ultimately craig kimbrel. I'll give you guys a name. I think he could end up with the la dodgers despite their need for the rotation. I mean again maybe you pair davies and and send both out to la but they just the starter market isn't that strong kyle gibson potentially could be an option but if you're looking to strengthen the back end of the bullpen kimbrough's as good as it gets. Obviously money is no object to the dodgers. He's under contract next year. Kenley jansen has had a strong season. he struggled a bit here late but he's been strong overall. He's going to be a free agent. After the off season kimbro could slide right into that closer spot. And i think he ends up with the dodgers out there. So those are the guys. I think that moved from the cubs and i think they sit on everybody else. Heavier by is being the biggest name that i think they hold onto and potentially try to even resign when it comes to the off season. Now joey gallo is another name. We'll talk about right. He's been rumored to be on the market. He's been talked about how he wants to stay in texas. So ultimately i mean gosh i i think texas moves him i get based on what he said. He wants to stay in texas. He's made it clear. He's not a free agent till after twenty twenty two so the choice to move him isn't as urgent. But i mean that right field. Porch and yankee stadium could persuade some guys to come to town. I mean would this guy. Hit fifty home runs and yankee stadium. He potentially could right. They need a left handed bat very very sorely again if they don't get anthony. Rizzo you gotta look to joey gallo. He's arbitration eligible next year..

"It's wrong us right. Bad calls is right. It was strike three in the game. Should have been over and now what might be over is kenley jansen. This is the second night a row. Mike against the blood rival the giants that at home he blew the save. These numbers of brutal in its seven runs. Seven hits four walks in only one full inning. Pitched it's just terrible if your member of that team or the manager that team even though you wanna back kenley jansen can you put them in against the giants in the padres teams that you have to beat. I'm not sure that you can. I watch the replay of this. It's a bad call. There's a difference between holding your position and completing the full. Arkansas swing mike. I ninety five percent of the time that's called strike three first of all the balls over the plate and it's underneath. The letters is a strike. It's a call strike. And it's inciting the call that he didn't is inciting and of course. It incited primarily dave roberts. It'd be just mentioned in his to you. I watch the replay too. I was watching it. Live okay i'm watching. It live last night at a clubhouse. I've got the game on. I got a nice chicken sandwich going. And i'm waiting here. This is drama building. Oh wait mlb network decided to just take it off and go to commercials three four five commercials adler kenley. Jansen has thrown the ball three feet over somebody's head and ninety five miles per hour to load the basis. I don't even get to see the rest lack of mlb network probably marketing people at that point who say you don't need to see this. Let's just commercials. So i didn't say put in day tabards. Sunday's.

"Macy's been the world series three times one one one the first one and one of them seat it out of. Yeah yeah yeah. That guy is just got a thing. And dave roberts right. Here's michael in pomona on line two. Hey michael you're on. Espn a goes doing because we know who the bozo was out there anyways You know this whole thing. I think the big issue is is like. I was telling the gentleman answer phone like forrest gump now with that box chocolates. Let's just never know what you're going to get. There's no consistency anymore. You used to know when he man boom boom. It was the rare occasion. Give up a run or hit now. You just don't know so everybody's nervous wreck just watching them just watching them walk to the mouth. I love your michael's right. Can i can i interject. Michael kennedy had gave up no runs in the month of june. None it's not a box of chocolates. He went fifteen straight appearances without allowing a run prior to what happened colorado on sunday. He's having a bad week. He has had a tremendous season. Twenty one of twenty three and save opportunities is unbelievable. He's had a bad week but he was deadly consistent prior to this. He wait a minute. What twenty three of twenty four saving grace. By the way. Michael michael when when kenley jansen comes into the game does your heart not skip a beat. Do you not say to yourself. Oh no here. we go mace. I think you're the only one who doesn't have that anxiety because every other dodger fan like even last night. Hey when kinley. Got into the game or senator tex. Oh god comes. Kim league boy. It's definitely dramatic. I mean i'm not gonna lie. I was going to tweet last night. Dot dot dot drama dot dot hashtag dodgers felt. I felt like it was a dramatic moment question. But i would argue. That other closers are in the same boat. Craig kimbrel has blown. Four saves this year. Guys won't five is craig kimbrel that much better than kenley. Jansen no but he's not as inconsistent. I would four saves four blown saves five blown saves. it really doesn't matter guys. Will sometimes blow saves no matter. Who here's nick in los angeles online eight. Hey nick you're on seven ten. Espn i totally agree with mason. Yes sir he has fallen in. Hit your head. No four years ago. Remember we were thinking about dumping kershaw. Same thing kershaw came back and of course i was a world series. Everything is forgotten last year. Can lease cutters. Didn't cut so now. He has to go back and figure out how to fix that cutter he will. He's going to get it together. He's going to be right price of this week. He was fine. He would have been probably. Mvp for closers. I i would say all right. Now he got ripped off he should have been in. The all star died that i agree with. He didn't give up. He was reliever of the month and the month of june. And it's only a lie. I'm i got screwed by the rolaids. Relief member fireman of the year relief. Man of the year you remember. They used to have that award. Oh yeah sure got rid of it. I did too. I think i mean. I think there's an award for reliever of the year. I just don't know that it's the rolaids reliever of the year anymore. Let's do this whitney houston. Thanks so interesting scenario demoted. Doing now do when we come back. We'll do when we come back a whitney houston story. That raises an interesting ethical question. That is coming up next for mason and ireland seven ten. Espn i put on. Thank you very much mason. Ireland seven ten. Espn what are you doing us. So lindsey baseball. We should just call lindsey baseball now. That's what tweeted this. "Says that's a play that you learn as a major league early in spring training. He said it was a mental mistake. That noisy should you know what i'm talking about. First baseman correct. Any other thing. John is the runner. Got a big secondary lead up so the so. The runner got a big secondary lead. Making it easier for him to get two seconds quicker route to second base. But i mean so. We both agree at that point. The game should be the game. Should be over okay. Then dern rough steps up so darn raf kenley kenley looks really good at this point Without question on a three to count. Darren rough goes around without question. He goes around. That should be a seeing. You'll right appeal to the first base umpire. Yup the first base umpire says he didn't and dave roberts goes ballistic and gets thrown out. So now let's get back the review. That was where i was going. Let me get back to this. i'm against replay all right. I want to get rid of it. I think they keep screwing it up. But if you're gonna have it why. Why isn't anything in the ninth inning. With the game on the line reviewable. What is the point of having it and stopping the game for the play at second base when that. That was irrefutable evidence. Right that there's no one that's going to look at that and say rough. Go around we. I mean patriots show queer. He ran around on players. Miss calls we all know what happens. That guy missed the call. But why do we have to live with that. We had live with the call at second because a replay. Why can't replace swing back around in this case of having not reviewable. That was the third out for the second time for kenley again. Getting out of it again getting out of it then then it it got out of hand but realistically there were two third outs recorded in that inning. And i would say the umpires totally roofed kenley jansen. We won that game twice and they didn't get it right. Okay so i am not going to place the blame on this on kenley jansen. He should have been out of the inning twice all right. I think you're you're being kenley jansen apologist and here's why he shouldn't have been in the game. Explain this to me. And i know you say that. Everybody's got their roles and they gotta stay in their rules right. Yeah blake training through seven pitches. correct seven. why can't he see he had no issue. Why can't he come out. And pitch the ninth especially when are closer is struggling because kenley jansen you immediately have got to rebuild his confidence okay. She here in the best way to two to run. Lead in the ninth inning. And he got out of it twice best way to build. His confidence is by getting them. Back out on the mound. Well what about what we talked about yesterday. You and by the way the phones are open for this eight. Seven seven seven ten. Espn we want to hear what you guys think. I eight seven seven seven ten three seven seven six so first of all. My first argument is blake trying..
Giants Rally in 9th for 2nd Straight Night To Beat Dodgers
"The giants scored four two out ninth inning runs off Dodger closer Kenley Jansen to pull out an improbable five to three when they're in rough drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game and lamonte Wade junior then capped the rally with a two run single listing it too much about what else is going on interesting about focusing on my bed when I need to do to have consistent bad and you know try to help the team out so you kind of just focus in on that get a good pitch to hit likely did not object to do that it was Jansen's second blown save in two nights LA ace Walker Buehler held the giants to a run on five hits Buehler struck out nine before leaving in the eighth mark Myers Los Angeles

The grid confronted you that you said well. The fantasy baseball doesn't count. we'll fantasy. Baseball does economy and it was in the thick of the internet. What are you talking about. That was the one exception was fantasy baseball. That's the one thing i would allow myself. That would be the hardest thing for me to go without. Is checking my fantasy baseball team. I am addicted to do what's i can't. I can't live without following my baseball team. My nba fantasy team The trudell league with all the pros. Which i finished sixth by the way sixth out of fourteen this year. It's very proud of and Fantasy football obviously. I'm i comb the waiver wire constantly and try to make sense of my roster. This is my ear john. It's the year of the mace fantasy football year. The mason well you finished last four the last five years. I'm doing this maybe me. 'cause i can't be there for the draft. I'm going to be like in the middle of idaho and so i've got to find somebody to draft form. Somebody's gotta draft for you. Yeah why you can't do it from idaho. i cannot so. I'm going to be in a boat in the middle of the lake but will find somebody somebody else do it get lindsey get horry to do it Lindsay fell asleep the last time you know what i'll be doing would draft using the swag system which is pretty well with that. Don't think would be worked for. Maybe a couple months ago. It does work for them. All i coming up next we circle back to this kenley jansen. Last night. I got to go to dodger game last night john questions. Whether is there for the entire thing. And i'm looking at one. He's giving me a thumbs up. Of course we were there till the end. Because i don't leave baseball games early because you never know what's going to leave a baseball game early I you've never known to know me to never leave a game there. You go very made a lot of sense. You know what. I'm saying though. You know what i'm saying. You have no idea because you're not you're not tracking me and well anytime i've ever been to any function with you regardless of whether it's a baseball game or now you've got go a lot of ghost a lot of parts. There's no way these things last night. I think as soon as kenley jansen gave up the home or you headed for the parking lot. You're absolutely wrong. But i you know if you gave me true serum i i would tell you the same thing i was there till the bitter end because i still had a bunch of nachos in my helmet that matter capture. Yeah no my helmet. Nachos were fantastic. They aren't sat on them. They were fantastic last night. And no dodger dogs so one of the big things we kinda started the show with was kenley. Jansen blew a save. John thrown in the trash says. No i'm ready. I'm ready to go to a getting a backup plan b. I want an in case he does it again. We need to be able to go to somebody else. You're right writer. Die with kenley. Right rider die would go out and look for another reliever the guy save twenty one of twenty five games this year and by the way the reason i would get a starter instead of reliever is i would like the option to move. Julio to the same rowley was last year in the postseason get a starter. Then you can afford to move into higher leverage positions later in the season. I don't know of carrington's gig craig kimbrel and win win. Kenley going through a swoon. He is now he's blown two saves and row. Just throw kimbrel out there for a guess. How many safes craig. Kimbrel blown this year. But they're in bay. Same numbers canley. Yeah but he's not a bad team i do. Should you boo your own team. I think is a very good question. And are you done with canley. I think it's ridiculous but some people are eight. Seven seven seven ten. Espn eight seven. Seven seven ten. Espn mason and ireland seven espn..

"Two playoff games. He just blew two of them by the way. They're not playoff games in july. They're not playoff games. Waste there's games against the giants. This is this is the things you will playoff game we can. We can modify playoff game right. Well wait a minute. They're battling for the top of the division. How much more high leverage do you want their one game out of first place and he just blew the gang open. Its july man. All right here's gave robertson and game who not surprisingly agrees with mason yes. This guy is a lifelong dodger. And i think to start is the fan. Certainly have a right to voice their frustrations and absolutely I get that. But i do believe that. This guy Born and raised dodger. What he does He cares about the dodgers. The fan base shown that on the field off the field and and no-one hurts more than he does to be quite honest and he's worked really hard to kind of get back and should have been an all star this year and he's had a fantastic season. So are there was a hiccup the other night and have one at home. He was looking forward to pitching at home and so for to not go. I think that Yeah i'm disappointed here. That certainly he's not going to say but i am. Yeah by the way beto durant. That tweet sucks on that tweet. That oh i'm with you a little league with snacks. Let's just not boo people inside our own rise every jammed. Here's tom in santa barbara. Hey tom you're on seven ten. Espn hi hey guys you grow. You are absolutely great. I love your show daily. I work A driver for a living sleep is also or george. They're great anyway. here's kenley. I think if we can handle him. Psychologically because i think he's a really sensitive great guy he needs to be repositioned blake. Training came in yesterday and he killed it. I was a rose up halfway between third and third base line or the third base style all. Hey hey tom pattern. Yeah notice mason. Walking out after kenley gave up the runs in the nile did not notice that because i watching a home run from wilmer florez over the field thing now you. You don't think tom's idea would work. Because you don't think kenley would be a setup guy. I don't think kenley is a setup guy in fact i don't even see kenley used in a tie game pitcher as a tie game. I just think he gets ramped up for a safe situation. Obviously it didn't work last night. But i don't know why everybody is willing to throw kenley out after after a bad week. Tom thank you for calling we. Let's go to john in long beach on line three. Hey john you're on seven ten. Espn guys have been listening to you. Since nineteen ninety eight love your show suffered. Okay thank you. I have three words for you guys jose mesa cleveland. Would that mean out. Means nineteen ninety seven when the indians were in the world series against florida. The marlins as they were called at the time. Jose mesa who was there. Ace closer thirty five plus saves over the year when they needed him. The most blew the save opportunity in extra innings. And the marlins went on and won the world series. So you weren't out away. John is that your way of saying you. Would you would get reinforcements you get help in the bullpen. Absolutely absolutely yes. All right thanks man. Thanks yeah i just. I i think people are so reactionary people are so it's in a we live in a country where it's like bam all of a sudden we wanna throw somebody out. It's like kenley blows say we're done with you you're done. Here's chris in palmdale on line six. Hey chris you're on seven ten. Espn mary great show. Thanks ardent met you. Who like twenty five years ago. He's still great on the radio to as you got the best white hair in and all of espn broke. Keep thank you. Thank you rocket now way. Chris would you do with kenley. Jansen okay. we're kenley. I'm a dodger fan. The one who has la dodger tattooed on my leg. Nice unrolling with kennedy. I'm rolling kennedy look. We wanted us season. This guy's been pitching great this year. You know he has a couple. I think what to two blown saves thirty four twenty one of twenty five hundred twenty five okay. Yeah i never really agree with you that much but on this one all right thanks. Thank you for this. This will not be the last time you agree with me. This is the start of a trend. Carlos in huntington beach carlos you're at seven ten. Espn hi hey what's up guys Man i'm so done with kenley. This has been going along ever since he had that issue in in colorado. He's never been the same after that. Wait a minute. I agree with you but that's not true. He's been pretty good this year. Pretty good he's been. He's twenty one of twenty five and save opportunities. It pretty good but like you said mason is july one about when it counts and if you guys remember who through the last hour for world series win we had exactly so why why ended the peach Pitch candy dancing if he was so good. I'm also i wanna. I wanna point another thing too Dave roberts should pick them up the game when he hit that bomb but nobody was even in the bullpen warming up. He had six batters before he took him out that game. And and to you know Put salt in the injury. They still check on like. You don't need to check them. The was pitchy nice guys. Thanks the way he makes a really good point and another argument for me on why we should get a starter and not a reliever. Who do you really want in the mount for the final out of a game. Let's say seven the world series this year. Who do you want on the mount baker last year correct. And how do you move odious to that position. You add another starter. Because he's not going to be able to do it like a puzzle piece. Here's rick in torrance. Hey rick you're on seven ten. Espn high so my take is there'll be there'll be plenty of time to shower kenley with love and attention at the old timers game. You know what we'll love until he dies that you know i just finished. I'm in sales. I just finished a good quarter and my vp was. Hey that's great. But if i go to the next quarter and i don't do it. You think he's gonna ride with me now. It's it's ireland. Says this is what have you done for me lately. Business and kenley. He may not. We may not get off on a mason. But he's on triple secret probation. Appreciate prove ation. If this continues to happen. I tell you what he needs to go because losing to the wants like that. We're in a dogfight. The underdog fight in the nfl west and we have to prove or defending champs. We have to prove to the rest of the world that last year even a sixty game season was not a fluke that we are legit. Ray we need for that and david. He's right you're saying. Oh it's july doesn't matter the hell it doesn't matter. These are the giants. This is a dog fight. Getting the dogfight eighth. This is a hundred and sixty two game season just past the half every time you lose to the giants a little dies. yeah now. it hasn't been that way for the last couple of years. Hasn't been that way. I mean he hit the giants. But it hasn't been that way. And i still don't think i still think we beat the giants. I still think we beat the giants comfortably. But what i don't understand is just after a bad week. You're willing to throw away a closer..

"I so honestly answer this question there until the end. My friend lively boos rained down. Kenley jails believe you do not believe that you are not at present heading for the exits before the final normally. When i when i go to games i take a picture of the scoreboard on my way out. roof that we didn't do that knocking. I promise you i was there. I promise you. I was there who can win. It all fell apart. Who who will. Who will validate the fact that the till the end. The only person that can do it is one. I think one will be honest. I do there will be on if you have two years. After the dodgers the lead. I think you left. I don't think he stayed for the bottom of the ninth. Absolutely not of course. I stayed for the. I don't understand believing of the games early. That never came early. What are you talking about. And i start with this the because and i bought a dodger dog last night. Okay crap just crap. I can't stand the confirmation bias you already thought it was going to be crap before you bought it so instead. I got the carney assadi carney asada helmet nachos and a brisket sandwich which was fantastic with coleslaw. We'll set up the second aiming point where you're required to wear a mask once you set foot inside the stadium inside the stadium. No because it's all outdoors. Okay yes so i was. I was covered in that scenario. Worst viewed as an outdoor venue. Okay so even though servers. Were not wearing masks. No the servers were wearing masks. I think generally speaking servers in most places are now wearing masks because of the Because of this new thing that we got going on but everybody else free and clear because it's an outdoor venue and they still haven't changed the rules for that and it's nice to be out there with a whole bunch of people screaming our heads all tell you this much john i was. I cannot understand booing your own player. I don't understand why a guy who saved twenty one of twenty five games a guy who has been the stalwart of your bullpen. A guy that's one of the most important reasons you've won fifty nine games this year. You would boo. you wouldn't boom mariana. You wouldn't boo trevor hoffman. You wouldn't boo de grills guys are in the hall of fame right well. Kenley jansen is the all time franchise save leader for the dodgers. Nobody has saved more games than kenley. Jansen and yet people are so quick trigger. he obviously didn't have it. the cutter wasn't caught did not have i was looking at the board. He was in the low nineties. He wasn't in the mid nineties like he's been so he obviously wasn't dominating but booing him i think is one unfair and to not good for the long term mental health kenley jansen so you don't think fan should ever do their own team. I think they have a right to i. Don't think they should. I would never do my own team..
Flores’ Homer Off Jansen in 9th Rallies Giants Past Dodgers
"The giants scored three in the ninth inning off closer Kenley Jansen to storm the Dodgers forty two Wilmer Flores delivered the big blow a go ahead two run Homer off Jansen also get exactly what what he's doing something off something are not seems like every top facing he he does want to up there and I was just ready for only starter Julio arenas allowed a run on three hits over seven innings but was no decision Jose Alvarez got the win Tyler Rogers picked up the save the giants for the first team in the majors to sixty wins mark Myers Los Angeles

"His career already and he'd be on pace to break his career high that he set back in twenty eighteen. He's the only guy in the major leagues with more than twenty this season. He doesn't strike out. He's only strike out twelve point seven percent of the time. Ten percentage points lower than the league average. he's walking seven percent of the time on base percentage of three thirty seven. Eight home runs in eighty three games this year which certainly makes him one of the best offensive weapons so far for kansas city. This year you'll on mon kedah. Third baseman for the white sox. I mean yes. Numbers are particularly flashy. But it's two point. Seven war is the highest among qualified position players to miss the all star game this year and it's higher than a considerable number of starters. I mean man. He's trimmed his career his strikeout rate to a career low at twenty five point eight percent. He's got his highest average jetta to eighty career-best four zero three on base percentage. And i mean gosh for the white sox. He's one of their best offensive players. So it's certainly interesting to see him being kept off this list. You have freddie peralta. Starting pitcher the brewers. I mean yes the national league. This year is ridiculously deep with pitching. So it certainly made sense. One of the top starters was gonna be left out from the rotation and the brewers already have two guys from their rotation being represented in the all star game but peralta is one of the best even though he's milwaukee's number three his two point. Two three era is seventh lowest in the national league among qualified starters. His hundred and twenty nine strikeouts his fourth most and so far only jacob degrom is holding opposing hitters to a lower batting average. Peralta is at one thirty two so far this season he's got walk rate of only eleven point five percent his home run rate nine point seven percent so again i mean you go with the top two guys from milwaukee one one guy certainly going to be left out but peralta any other year would absolutely be representing his team in the all star game. Y'all have max scherzer. Another starting pitcher from the national league. He's he spent a seven straight all star appearances. This breaks in impressive streak dating back to twenty thirteen and in twenty twenty one. He's been very good again. I mean he's averaging more than twelve strikeouts per nine innings. He's brought his walk rate down to two walks per nine innings. That's the third lowest of his thirteen year career. More impressively ziara is at two point one zero which a guy with three cy. Young awards is certainly very impressive. That would be his lowest mark ever for his career. He's gonna be thirty eight here soon and for a guy having the lowest dra of his career at the age of thirty eight again. That's somebody who should be on the all star team but just the depth in the national league. Pitching side of things made it extremely difficult for these guys to get on the squad. And then. Lastly i have justin turner of the dodgers. I mean again. The dodgers thir- absolutely loaded right. They got a bunch of guys who can make strong case clayton. Kershaw was left off the team. Kenley jansen was left off the team this year but turner who's only got one all star appearance in his career just seems like a guy. Who's this good. Should have more all star appearances than that. I mean again. Among qualified players only mon- kedah's as a higher war among position players mccain was at two point seven turner's at two point six. He's been a force offensively hitting two ninety five thirteen home runs. He only has fifty seven. Strikeouts to thirty nine walks. He's got a forty four point. Two hard hit rates which is the best of his career is average. Exit velocity is ninety one miles an hour so he certainly had an all star first half for the dodgers but the depth in the national league again. Leave some guys out when it comes to the mid summer classic. So let me know who you guys think should have made the all star team that maybe i left off this list. Who is the biggest snub that you guys ad that i leave anybody out but wrapping up all our all star segment here and segment number two talking about the homerun derby we now know who the final eight contestants are we have. We know all eight of them here when it comes to the derby we of course new shohei ohtani. We talked about him in great detail and segment number one. You also have pita lonzo who was listed we talked about trae manzini matt olsen of the oakland. Athletics was the last ones we know. But the final four. we're also recently released. We have trevor story of the colorado rockies. Sin how much longer are we going to say of the colorado rockies. He's one of the biggest rumored participants in the trade deadline coming up and we'll discuss that in a little more detail here in our fourth and final segment but the final three guys one soto of the washington nationals super excited to see one sodo in the homerun derby. I mean that guy's natural power is absolutely going to be on display when it comes to being in denver and being above sea level and just watching the ball fly. You also have. Salvador perez of the kansas city royals peres just continues to make all star team after all star team. And he's got some pop offensively so it's certainly going to be fun to watch. And then the last participation guy we got here is joey gallo. He announced he's got twenty. Twenty one home run. So far this season and it will be the eighth and final contestant so from the left side at the plate shohei ohtani matt olsen. One sotto joey gallo. I mean if you're getting tickets to this event you may want to get some in the third deck out there in right field and if you're in left field pita lonzo trevor. Sewri salvador perez trae manzini. It's an even split. Lefty righty here. So it's certainly going to be a ton of fun to watch. And i mean i don't know the bracket yet that ultimately who's going up against two but it's tough to bet again shohei otani and juan soto even with pita lonzo being a previous champion of the event. So let me know in the comments. So you guys think's going to win the events ultimately i just. I'm i'm excited about these guys. I think this is going to be a fun. One to watch. And there's gonna be a ton of home runs being hit in this derby so you're gonna wanna tune in and watch that at the beginning of next week but that'll do it here for segment number. Two of the gsm see baseball. Podcast brought to you by the gsm. See podcast network. I'm your host kevin mahalick. We'll step aside here now for another word from.
Betts, Muncy Early HRs Propel Bauer, Dodgers Over Giants 3-2
"The Dodgers hit three home runs all solo shots in a three to two win over the giants Mookie Betts and Max Muncy went back to back in the first inning and Will Smith added one in the fourth all coming off Anthony DeSclafani Trevor Bauer went six innings for the win his eighth of the season but he wasn't entirely pleased afterwards I don't feel like I was particularly effective but we got a win that's all matter so happy about that Kenley Jansen got his nineteenth save after getting no hit last Thursday by the cubs the Dodgers have reeled off four consecutive wins mark Myers Los Angeles

"Kerry We were talking earlier about. Well, we played that sound bite earlier, and we'll get some quality questions here. Just one sec. My chance to ask you some questions. This week. We played that sound bite earlier of Joey Votto, like just calling out the opposition and basically cracking jokes on on the ST Louis Cardinal fans bringing brooms and stuff, and then they just rolled in and handle business against the Cardinals. Have you covered anybody who's like baseball players like your Draymond green casually drop F bombs Kevin Durant to it to here to your like certain players do it is like one thing. But Joey Votto would not like Bumgarner said it or Bauer said it I'm like, Yeah, OK, that empowers actually pretty reserved in his Is a media sessions like he's not some boisterous. He doesn't act the same way it does in the field. But if Bumgarner like casually dropped an F bomb about somebody like I wouldn't I wouldn't really bad night but because it was Joey Votto and the the way that he did it, I sort of perked up. Have you covered anybody who like surprised you with a reaction like that? No one who surprised me. But I will say it's been a pleasure listening to Aaron Sanchez Post game this year before he got hurt Aaron Sanchez very loose when he's going well, that guy is a talker. When he's not going well. He's furious at himself. Swearing is cussing in the postgame presser, and it's great Camillo Deval, also this year dropped an F bomb on the on the post game presser after his first game, and that was a cool moment because he really did not know the scope of where that was headed self. I just appreciated. I appreciated the candor from from the 23 year old flame thrower. So what did he say? He said in English. Yeah. Oh, yeah. In what context? Jesus Aguilar was the first batter that can be a little dove all struck out in his baseball career in Miami giant cinnamon. For the eighth inning. He looks like he's gonna be a solution all season long and Jesus Aguilar was caught on camera screaming, Uh, you know, he screamed the F bomb after he struck out against Deval, and so someone asked Postgame presser. Hey, Camilo, did you by chance here? What Jesus, Aguilar said, and Camilo, like transition from Spanish to English immediately drops the f bomb it does. It's super loud like he's imitating him. Yeah, I was like this is awesome. I love this guy already have the best hair and the Giants love them. Yeah, that's where you're going. Great. So, Yeah, I love that. And Aaron Sanchez, Alex what? A few weeks ago, I looked like s. I felt like S. I pitch like as pretty good Like I was probably your your best, like pure quote of the season, but the guys who are loose, they keep it fun. I like the the guys will be honest about it and just sort of, say stuff like that, Because it's real. It's like how these guys actually speak to each other. So it feels more legit when they're saying it to you in the media. All right, my turn to ask you some questions. In this edition of Quality Crest questions. First question for you Carry. We're talking about the sticky substances. Baseball is going to start policing this stuff. I had an interview. Stephanie App. Steen. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Stephanie, abstain last week from Sports Illustrated did a great job there Fantastic job on this article about about the the sticky problem in baseball with the doctoring of the balls. And she said, Maybe we get to a point where managers get punished for their players doing this. If managers start getting punished for it, you'll start seeing crackdowns and clubhouses in locker rooms. What do you think the punishment should be for offenders? Once baseball starts policing it on the field? Oh, that's really tough offenders. I wouldn't go with the 10 game suspension. I'd go five. And I know that the 10 is to keep them out like a full start through the rotation. I just do five just because you're still having to play with 24 guys. So it really hurts the team. But a manager suspension where a manager suspended two games without pay. You'd really have that because managers aren't making what they did 5 10 years ago, and so they're not like the richest people in the sport anymore. Manager turnover is at an all time high. So you're having to get your money when you can. I think that if you're suspending guys, two games you're going to see this eliminated real quick. That's a great call, man. Alright, last last question here before we get to our top three or our walk one pitch one and, uh, and get to hit one which MLB reliever. Would you hand an M V P vote, too? Today today. That's really tough. That is really tough. A few weeks ago, I might have, said Blake Treinen, and they'll be reliever. Not constant. Kimbrel Kimbrel would be for the Cubs. Yeah, Craig Kimbrel, probably sub one. Er A. I don't know that he's blown any saves. He's been great this season. Craig Kimbrel, Alright, very Kimbrel's every p and they always say picture are closer of a generation for this generation, Kenley Jansen. Let's say, Look at this Kimball numbers. I know he's fallen on hard times last couple of years, but he's been filthy in his career. Also say you spiral petite just because it would be funny to see that on a baby. You just want to see it 16 patina. He's he's got 16. All right. We're gonna flip this one on its head. Normally, you get to walk one of these guys. You can pitch to one of these guys, and you can drill one of these guys. But if you drill one, he's coming out to fight. You were going to flip it. You're in the batter's box. You're facing three of the spin rate pitchers with sticky stuff on the baseball. You're going up against Garrett Coal, Trevor Bauer and Walker Buehler. All guys who have since been raised dip over the last week due to the maybe policing of the sticky substances with the Spider attack in baseball. One of them can drill you one of them. You get to hit a home run off of and one of them is going to intentionally walk you but the one who drills you you're going out. You're going to fight that guy. And you're also going to do it after he caught you in the ribs like 95. Yeah, I was gonna say so. Cole throws $100 throws 98 Bauer can run it up to 96 97. I don't think there's an optimal guy. Had to be hit by of that group. It's not like you know, we don't have Tyler Anderson out here. Why do you ask me? Do you want to fight after he welts you on the ribs? Yeah. I mean, I think I'd want to fight power. I think that that that stands out to me. I think that I'll walk against Walker Buehler, and I'll hit the home run off of Garrett cold because it's Garret Colin. He's got the reputation as the greatest pitcher. The generation 324 million. Yeah, I'd like to take him deep. Pretty good. I want you just get drilled The ribs by Bauer. Yeah. I mean the fight. The fight would not end well in my face. Would you put the swore back in after? Yeah. In the she alright, that's gonna do it. Can I have Jeff some margin? Mike Morris running onto the field with me as long as they clank heads on their way down. How poor Mike Morris Man that's going to do it for the cops and Crowley podcast will be like next week. Everybody enjoyed the baseball this weekend Giants. In Washington, D C.
