"You know, I'm about to start working. Again and I'm working on a film. Later this year that I'm that I'm sort of glancingly preparing for and I feel very far from being inside of it. But I know at a certain point, you sort of crossed that Rubicon. And it's not something I really understand, but it's sure something that I love. Kashi is also interesting, by the way is the treatment. I'm talking to a Jeremy strong. He's starring as Jerry Rubin Trial of Chicago seven. Of course he's Kendall Roy is winning role in succession book and I just And knowing you a little bit know what you would like is a person. I do sense. One of things I like about you is that you are really a very curious person and talking about the way these characters taken information. Um, sometimes, like in the case of candle acres for dampen that curiosity, because that makes them too vulnerable. And I wonder, too, because we're talking about the way people absorb information. For that is about curiosity and We can say that Jerry Rubin, as you claim is a very curious fellow. Yeah, you know, I think, Jerry Part of the experience of it was kind of spending time with Jerry Rubin. For me. It was just incredibly freeing. It was very liberating. And you know, that was what he and Abby Hoffman and the Yippies were all about. It was it was about liberation. From the sort of middle class norms that they felt straight jacketed by and so they wanted to free themselves through their activism, but also through a certain kind of In a way performance and and through Histrionics and through guerilla theater and through descent and through marrying making and you know they were these kind of 10 keys, Merry pranksters. And so that coming from having sort of trying trying to have inhabited the character that is very Controlled and has a great deal of tension and sort of tense. I'll strength is wound very tightly with the character on It's funny. I don't like to talk about it as a show or talk about the character in the third person, But you know what I'm talking about, And then and then and then, Jerry, who's sort of Ah, you know, diametric opposite who was very loose and open as you say. And had a wonderful sense of humor. You know, he, Jerry Rubin went in front of The House American Activities Committee. Dressed as Santa Claus, and he handed out jelly beans in the chamber. And, you know, he went and found a pig on a farm. Outside of Chicago, and he brought the pig down to City Hall. And he tried to enter the pig who he named Pegasus into the presidential race because he felt that neither of the candidates in 1968 would do a better job than than Pegasus and you know, and then he went to jail and and for it and got out again and, you know, kept Sort of hammering away at the establishment. But what I love about Jerry Rubin is that underneath His sort of colorful nous, especially the way that Erin has sort of written him and rendered him in the film. But Jerry was the real deal he was, You know, he was the one in his early days lying and laying down on the train tracks to stop the troop trains going From Oakland. You know what he really cared about was what he felt. Was this genocidal war going on in Vietnam and our governments, foreign policies of aggression and oppression at home. And oppression abroad and racist aggression. So he you know what? What he really sought. And I love this term. What he believed in and what he saw was what he called an interracial human hood. And so I loved how much he cared and how much he was willing to put himself on the line for his convictions. And then you know, like a lot of the characters in that film like Tom Hayden like Abbie Hoffman like Bobby Seale. And Dave Dillinger. He just had a different way of sort of expressing it, but I guess just to just to bring that around full circle. The great and liberating thing for me was how expressive Jerry Rubin wass and that allowed me. To live in a different place, really? For the few months that we were filming it, You know where I felt free. I was able to be more expressive and on my instincts were able to fire in a different way. And I sort of enjoyed the experience much more than I'm able to enjoy some other things. It's so funny. You're saying that because I was thinking about again meeting you on the judge, and just how he was so free with his hands. And when you're talking about Kendall, I'm aware of his wrists and how his his horse Fighting the urge to make a fist all the time because he can't express himself and you can open up his arms. And with Jerry, he's he's so outstretched it basically he seems almost barrel chest even though he's not because he leads with his chest. Me physically. He leading with this heart isn't a Yeah, I think that's right. He absolutely is leading with his heart. You know, I had a lot of audio recordings of Jerry and there's a lot of videos, and Jerry wrote two books. You read a book called Do it And he wrote a book called We Are Everywhere. And you know the thing that you get from reading those books and books that are you know that are about Jerry. And the time is that really the sort of secret ingredient was love. And he believed that with love You could change the world and that you know about that. That's something that always seemed a bit I hate to say kind of Pollyannish to me about the sixties. Not having grown up in them, but but thinking back, you know, people Had a sort of these These utopian hopes and enough sort of haze and fog of of dope, smoke. And and and then, of course, went on to Maybe repudiate those same convictions. But it was certainly really at the time and what's been so powerful for me is the way in which that energy That existed in 1968. You know, we we we filmed last October. I think I went to Chicago today last year, and we were marching down Michigan Avenue at Balbo Street. Where the riots took place across from the Hilton Hotel in Grant Park in Chicago. And we were. We were filming scenes where we were marching down the street and the police extras and the activist extras, But the police were played by a lot, mostly riel, Chicago Police, men and women and we were chanting No justice, no peace and the people United will never be defeated. And even then, you know, having watched the videos of the carnage that happened in August 1968. It was quite harrowing to be in that actual place and recreate Those events and then, of course, the way Things have unfolded in our country In these last months and hearing people chant those same chance in cities everywhere. It sort of made. This, of course, resonate in a different way. But I amplified and doubled and tripled the power of of having Had that experience for myself. There's so much to talk about how we're going to take a break. My guest is Jeremy strong. He's most recently on screen than Netflix is. The trial of Chicago seven written and directed by here and Sorkin. We also know him from not the serious but the HBO dramatic event. Succession is the treatment this morning. Come stay with us. She's from Anaheim. She works in special education and enjoys reading. Let's hear for Rebecca Rebecca. Rebecca. Here's how it works. I'm gonna askyou stereotypical male questions. Rob Jill is gonna ask a stereotypical female questions. Best out of three wins. Still tiny end of regulation will go to announce a tough tiebreaker question. Rebecca, are you working right now? With special Ed? Or you doing something had been early this morning. And then I have more later this afternoon as well. And how are your students? Responding? Is it working over Zoom spent quite a few care packages, boys and as much as I can muster. I'm on my own kids. They're going. They Oh, my gosh. What's the age group? If you don't mind me asking, I have k which is transitional Kindergarten all the way up through sixth grade. So I go into classrooms Help teachers. I love that. Thank you for doing. What you're doing is so important to know A lot of people in your field have been struggling, You know, teachers struggling With the zoom sessions doing the best they can for distance learning, But with special Ed, There's Ah added struggle, Obviously, that I want to thank you for all your efforts. All right, Rebecca, Here we go, Jeremy strong, just one of any for his character, Kendall Roy from what HBO show. Oh, HBO show Jeremy strong characters. Kendall Roy. You don't want it. No, no, no, You don't apologize to me. I'm rooting for the men anyway. Succession Succession, So it is a good show. Jill. I know you love that show when that guy did you see his speech last night? No, I didn't see his speech. Did you see a picture of what he was wearing? Know it wasn't wearing no Terrible like what, Like in pajamas are too Steptoe looking Okay is an ascot on? It's not great. That's it's just asking if you have to see the whole thing he looks like he's from like 18 70. Just not at all. What I expected. Yeah, he looks like you should be playing wider or something. So I can look this up. Rob Zendaya made history with her Emmy win last night for her character Rue Bennett's On what show? Goodness A Reuben. It's true. I don't know. Crown Noah's euphoria. "Because I I I. I was up against a very much more established very formidable talented actor. You know who who was more well known than me and all that but there was just you know it felt very alive in the room. I felt like I was prepared enough. And you know at a certain point in the beginning I think when you have everything to prove auditions or very terrifying thing because you just feel you do you feel a sense of. Everything's on the line. I think that feeling is really anathema to to being able to to be comfortable in free. Which is your job. And so over the course of years I guess I was able to sort of enter into more like fuck it kind of attitude and yeah so it went well in the room and and I and I walked out thinking that that I that I I've gotten that port and it just kind of felt in the pocket to me and and you know it's funny. I drove away from Francis Office. Adamant Jesse had made a comment. Adam gave me an adjustment and it was just one of those sort of fluid things that I felt something kind of happened in the room. And I think Jesse saw the character and I felt. Oh this is where this character lives. And this is what it is and it had to do a little bit with going off the text and The sort of more kind of modern Argo and more more more. The Way Kendall is in the show I guess and drove away from the parking lot and drove past the Oakwood apartments which on Barham boulevard out where pilot season. Yeah I was eleven I was eleven years old and I went to stay there with my dad. He sort of like saved up all this money and like worked in night shift as a security guard on top of his job to save up money and we came out to La for a month. And I looked at the Oakwood and you know sort of failed miserably auditioning for things and I didn't know what I was doing but but it was kind of profound moment to drive away and look up at the at the place that I used to like. Make Bogey Pizzas with my dad. When I was out there for pilot season but it did you know it did change my life and it and it and I wouldn't have been ready for it much sooner. I think you know it's a heavy thing. It's a heavy weight to carry a show Daria show for HBO. And I think you really have to come to a place where you you can kind of not give fucking that and really just be committed to as I keep going back to like entering another space. That has nothing to do with what anyone thinks. And where it's just you versus yourself in in the ring and a real willingness to I guess fail or be fired or whatever it is and that nothing will get in the way remember. Conversation with Sean Penn recently who said that he felt like your job is in actors to be the your bodyguard for the character and take a bullet if you have a and I and I really believe that and so I felt like I had enough experiences working with these sort of legendary directors and in in in the way holding my own ground with them and with Erin. That was a big. You know Sorkin Sorkin and you know. He has such a sort of mythology around him. But for the part that I was playing it was very clear to me. The part was a very volatile sort of monstrous guy who was A live wire and I didn't WanNa feel handcuffed to the apostrophes and to being exact in the texts and also having learned enough about film technique knowing Aaron. I can get your words in there but I'm GonNa fuck around during the take as much as I need to in order to arrive at where it needs to get to to that extremity and insisting on having that freedom even at the risk of conflicts you know healthy conflict. I would say in. He was is a great collaborator and and I love working with him. And you know the Chicago. Seven is one of the best scripts I've ever read and it's been around for a long time. Spielberg was supposed to make it. Paul Greengrass was supposed to make it. Ben Stiller is GonNa make it and now Erin directed it and and you know the act. It's Mark Rylance and any red main. Sasha Baron Cohen and myself and Joe Gordon Levitt Incredible casts and that was another sort of You know totally walking the plank with with a very different kind of character and and was was just your indescribably exciting for me. I guess you know coming back just to the the Kendall Roy situation once you have the part you know that you guys are doing you got prep for a pilot which in all likelihood with this group of people was going to go beyond the pilot but you never know you never know Kathryn. Bigelow made a pilot with any red main. That didn't go. You know my friend Zoe. Kazan had done a pilot with with Lena Dunham. Hbo That didn't go. So you never know. Now we're not well in this case though you do the work the prep I know regardless and so in this case I was looking over all the great books about powerful media families that you have said you read That you know that it may not have been. Everybody wants to -SSUME that you're you're playing James Murdoch and I think there's obviously a lot of similarities but it's not exclusively that from what you've said There's even you know you've got a little. Michael Corleone seems here a little just a whole bunch of different different types. Yeah yeah well I just I guess I wondered the you know the night that you guys did. Your first table read for the pilot. Another family of rich New York people was on your mind and I wondered if they at any point. Also if you feel that they are you can share who that was and if they influenced your character or or you think the show itself being. You know that it's entering the Either at a time when maybe it's relevant I don't know yeah I think to the first point. The murdochs are of course a template for for a lot of a lot of the material in the show and they've been written about exhaustively and sort of magnificently by Michael Wolff especially and a few things and and unappealing James but there are some things in the groundwater from from reading about their family that led to 'cause you're you're sort of a detective looking for clues you don't know what you're looking for but every once in a while drops in and there was something about I don't know if it was James or Lachlan said you know they were talking about sort of the breakfast morning breakfast table where they would have the broadsheets of the newspapers and the feeling was that their father only spoke the language of strength. I remember being so struck by the idea of what if strength wasn't your native language. What if you were in a family with this sort of dominating patriarch primal sort of force of nature? Who's who spoke very effortlessly. In fluently. The language of of strength and dominance and you try really hard to and try to someone that in yourself and locate that in yourself and and act out of a sense of it even if it was even if you didn't possess it but you know there's a lot of little sort of dynamical things if that's a word like that that came out of the Murdoch books but then there's also the you know the red stones and everything that's been playing out in recent years with them and with Viacom and and there's the salts burgers mirrors Conrad Black and the coke brothers and all these families all of these different sort of dynastic families. And of course you know an an atom had talked about when we made the big short this documentary called born rich that he really liked by Jimmy. Johnson is filmmaker and one of the people he talks to end it is event and you know even the pilot is clearly about that groundwater you know what if there is a family that is at the nucleus of our culture with an amount of toxicity and dysfunction? That is sort of malignant and dangerous and poses a real in a sense threat to the world. I mean I. I don't I wouldn't argue that. The Roy's are that but some people would and you know in my job isn't to judge them. It's to empathize with them from the inside. So Kendall has grown up with this. It's all he knows. It's not his fault in a sense whatever his complicity is. But as you say our table read for you know when we made the pilot was was election day and we all went on to Adams a house he rented in Tribeca to celebrate. You Know Hillary's victory and then a sort of slow darkening and and sort of yawning abyss opened up under US and there was. I remember a sense that all of a sudden the thing we were working on took on a different resonance and at and a new sort of terrible resonance now that this wealthy pathological family had sort of ascended to this position of power and the immense danger of that. And you know and what happens when a family without much sort of sublimated aggression and hostility and competitiveness. We not plays out on a global scale. So yeah I do. I do think that the trump presidency has landed the show in the Zeitgeist in a way that it may not otherwise have been in but I also think and this is really the virtue of Jesse's writing that it's not a topical show. I think it's a universal sort of archetypal show that is as much a shakespearian drama as it is a you know a a contemporary drama and the sort of story of of succession and ambition and Internet. Seeing family rivalry is a very old story and Jesse is sort of camouflaging this archetypal story. In a very savvy. Very Witty Cellophane wrapping. Yeah I was thinking that another another question you might have been asking yourself at. The beginning of this whole thing was not just you know who are possible reference points that I can study but also fundamentally wider these siblings wannabe CEO. In the first place. They're not GONNA be any. I mean they don't need the money. They're all very wealthy. Regardless what is the appeal and I wondered if you can at least speak for Kendall about what you believe. That is well a few things. I mean if you've grown up in a way I think where you have had affection love and tenderness withheld from you. You have a real wound there and I think a profound need to gain that attention and validation in love which I think is something that really is driving these characters. You know. I've I've said this before but it is. It's something that I thought about a lot and still think about to answer that question. Something that Young said that we're love is absent. Power fills the vacuum. And I think that's something that I see in Hollywood. That's something I see in Washington. That's something you know. That's the real to me. Essence of the of the show. And also what makes it? I think so sympathetic. You know there's the Pathos of that is a very relatable thing. He's trying to fill some hole and some wound inside of him. I think what's what you know what you say about. They don't need the money that's right. I mean what what what they need. In a sense you know they. They've been raised with all this power but they've not been raised with any personal power. They've been raised with the trappings of power and with money which really counts for nothing. If you don't have a sense of power internally and I think they're searching for that and I think they're looking for it in the wrong places but that is where they're looking for it. You Know I. I have two kids under two and I was just reading a book. The other day called no bad toddlers that it's about discipline it's A. It's a fantastic book. But it's about gentle discipline and guidance because my kid is entering the terrible twos and and and and this happens when you're working on something everything kind of relates to it and you read it through.

"Why why this isn't this attack which is exactly true? He can't tell you those things but what his testimony can tell. You is why those things happened again with the question. have to go back to that to understand why the call even happened. You see the Democrats getting ahead of it today. They've been talking a lot about well. This is why wasn't this. Why Joe Biden was right to do what he did? They know this is coming. I mean when the president's lawyers get up there so they're trying to get ahead of it and so the narrative ahead of time which is funny because if I'm a Democrat and I know Hunter Biden has nothing to say and nothing in to do with it. I'm like sure I'll trade hundred Biden for John Bolton. Let's do the deal let him testify. He's got nothing to say. You guys are GonNa look like a bunch of idiots. If it's a diversionary tactic conspiracy theory. We'll come out. We'll look really stupid and frankly I think it would be very difficult for hunter. Biden's testimony to live up to the hype right like he's actually like our image of him is basically like a crackdown guy money at strippers at Alabama somewhere. Like this is not a guy you could be. I mean it could be anything right. I mean like who knows my impression of him is Kendall Roy from succession which is like basically the worst possible thing that you could you could be out of control lunatic out for his own money money. Well you know he might come. Maybe you know maybe he comes off well right it actually could hurt the Republicans bring him. But it's important for America right like we're into know what actually happened if we give crap ago. What actually happened both hundred end John Bolton I think would be valuable? I think that's a good treat all right. The Biden campaigns warning turning to the media. You'd better fall in line into bunk. All those things that sound bad about creepy uncle Joe..

"Succession Season Two is over but we are just getting started here on push recap Sula everybody I'm Josh I'm joined Roy is indeed killer I'm surprised we didn't hear Kendall Roy go you know we're just getting started he was just getting started bringing his father down we are just getting started talking about succession season two finale what's happened a couple of days ago as you are listening to this podcast it has a lot to process emily and I cannot do it on our own so once again returning in from the cold when you heard from him last he was known as cousin Ben when you hear from him today I think that he is an elevated past cousin Benjamin I think we're talking to Bendel Roy today Ben Hello and welcome back to the podcast great to be here so basically I'm on the podcast right now and they told me to say one thing but actually my dad is a presence and you and that's the podcast what is I guess a yeah we'll give a blanket warning now we've been cursing a little bit along the way session podcast so let's right not to be too liberal with the F. Bombs but they've been known to fly I've certainly been guilty of such things which is less guilt than I think Logan Roy is currently feeling maybe he's feeling a little dumb sending his number one boy out into the wild as the blood sacrifice and the big twist of the finale of I is the bud sacrifice rebels against the Master Kendall Roy who has been a slave to his dad all season long finally bites Jack and Daddy's number one boy is now his own man reactions at the top of the hour of the U.. Emily Fox what did you think of the season two yeah I mean so I kept jumping between different characters trying to hypothesize what was going to happen but I did not see this coming now that I've read through a bunch of pieces sort of assessing finale content on success I think pieces there are a lot of really great Article News Armstrong show runner given lots of interviews he's like I don't want to tell you anything about what happened you can figure it out on your own she show is the best version of the show certainly agree this podcast is far from the best version of the show it started to happen I was like no this is such a good long Khanh and I'm so impressed by every single thing that long long con- on the part of the show or on the part of the character there's probably part of the characters I think you know we always knew that every single character had it in them to kind of backstab each other to get to the top think Kendall especially we put a lot of emphasis on him being you know at such low points in this season so to see him turnaround and completely stab his father directly in the art pretty incredible hurric- Bendel Roy what did you what did you think of of what happened here were you surprised a at logan in can down the river and be Ken doing what he does at the end of the finale wasn't surprised I I would say no and I had a conversation last week in which I said there's absolutely no way it's Tom Thomas certainly not the berets choice and then everyone was like yeah but it's not bloody so you said you said you thought it might be but the thing is right in the show I mean I definitely was hoodwinked I thought it would be tough it'd be so boring the show that'd be so obvious obviously I thought greg sprinkles I wouldn't have done the track eat anything with a couple of grads woman no cry if it should be it is anyway so I did suspect it might be Logan just because I felt like the show sort of turn it around and it being Kendall is even more facing and just sort of go from there so I suspect that Kendall I mean sorry Logan Yeah I am unsure as to what I want changed and I've always says to you earlier you called me I think you said you were like Howard I know you said you're like one of those stupid westworld people say you're one of those stupid westworld people I was saying and this is something that when dominic was on the podcast a few weeks you don't listen to the park has died from survivor style and was on the buy yes Bendel is chatting out dom when he was on we were talking about some of the convoluted theory rabbit holes you can get into any of these shows and I think that's accession for me rises above that game to a certain degree but the way that this season end aid has at the very least engendered some of that theorizing where it ends with Kendall betraying his father he goes to the press conference allegedly to take the blame for what's going on with cruises and all of the mess that has happened he's supposed to shock absorb all of the pain and anger and then he veers away from that back and throws his father under the bus calls a malignant present a presence it was a gift but it's kind of a kind of the opposite of that he says his father is a bully and a liar and that he has his thumb on every single aspect of the empire that would be ridiculous to think that he didn't know exactly what was going on in here and there seems to be a split decision within the fandom as to whether or not Logan got US got ambushed got surprised by his son or got exactly what he wanted a little smirk that Brian Cox delivers at the end articles related to the smart have a lot of takes on the smiles ben deliver us your table in this a couple of weeks I haven't read the articles I do commentary stops you return me I can't get my money back thirty invested deeper to one that I think there's a chance that just is feeling proud like Kendall it you can do this you're a killer and you are killer maybe that he's like proud of this kind of screwing him over to is that he has he suspected that Kendall might do this and he did this purposely I'm not really sure 'cause it seems like now everyone's going I kind of go down with the ship your Nachos Logan like going to deliver I mean everyone's dirty in the situation and three is that him in Kendall maybe add come up with this plan together all of that seems a little farfetched so I'm leaning towards one or two here and we do you have a strong take on the smile I'll tell you that there we can consult some of the feedback we've gotten for this episode already for instance Brooks is team this was the plan the whole time he says that was definitely Logan's plan the whole time he couldn't just resigned so he had to have Kendall thrown under the bus and quote Unquote Kill Them Kennel became the killer he needed to be totally didn't see that coming so that takes definitely out there both in the in the critical discourse of succession as well as our audience here on post show recaps and where do you land I mean so they all get together and have sort of this meeting of the minds where they go around the room and he basically Logan walks in and goes well it has to be me so maybe he planted that early on and just that was the real test for Kendall that's what I was thinking so you think that he he's like accepting Kendall and yeah you think that he's leaving Kendall with the idea that it's time to throw daddy under the bus the first idea he comes up with after the night of being like drink we'll figure it out tomorrow yeah I don't think so I don't I don't think so I think that this was is a little more straightforward I think that the reason why this show is so good is because the characters are so like deeply richly drawn and what we've had arked out all see as long is Kendall beginning reeling from the aftermath of what happened with the accident at Shiva Tom's wedding and we've been very carefully along like some semblance of a return to humanity for him like he was in like full Zombie husk mode for the first half of the season and I think that starts to take a turn iron when they go to the pierces in turn haven and he meets Naomi and he has conversation with turned helicopter take the money and go and not have to be involved in any of this anymore and then he gets a booster shot of confidence from the trip to Dundee in the to the OJI which I'm sure Ben you have many takes on would be my guest I certainly have many texts from you about the subject a little bit more of a zest for life after that even when he goes down to Washington with his dad and he's speaks before the Congressional hearing Kendall is speaking in a way that is more collected than ever he's already been killer in like the vaulter situation and everything but that was really on behalf of his dad I think the way that he's like articulating the case in front congress like everybody agrees in this episode even his siblings who've been ragging on him all season long finally agree why Kendall you did something right with no asterisks that was good I think we've been we've been creeping towards some form of actualization with not just that stuff but Kendall wanting to have some semblance of humanity bringing Naomi background England and then his dad's shitting on that him bringing Naomi on the boat and this episode and His dad's shitting on that again I think that the final consequence the finals stripe for him is like he could keep being loyal obedient dog all day long thumb of his father but he still gets thrown into the middle of the ocean without a life jacket when it comes time to like throw somebody into the fire his dad says him and I think that you could see like if you want to assign logan like super genius levels of Power persuasion you could say that this was all one long gamut but I think it's so much more satisfying if what we're moving into with season three is Kendall who is finally willing to stab his dad in the front like maybe there's the possibility that Logan sought coming to some degree but to say like he engineered it or it's some kind of secret cabal that he and Kendall hat on think of having to react this way and you know whether it was sub-conscious or I think his dad's saying like has to be me maybe that really sat with away especially being told that you're not a killer like that's insane to me you're one hundred percent factual Leah killer the person that I don't know in our is what we call that no real person involved I hate that pretty messed up I guess also on a ask storytelling level which is something I'm very much expert in the art of storytelling but I guess the first season ends with Dole attempting a bear hug totally getting screwed over right and this essentially would be Kendall's bear hug but he completely is taking down his father right this is the three art yes but I don't know I don't know I'm not a writer well I think it certainly out there right now and this is like I said like Jesse Armstrong is the show owner of succession and in all the interviews he's doing right now he he's like if you read them you know whether it's with he did one with with vulture with the for itself he even says that that certain actors have different opinions than he does like Brian Cox has given some interviews about his interpretation of what happened so let me see if I can pull that up because he he thinks I think he's more in line with the idea that he this coming that he felt like this was this was something that he anticipated he says it was inevitable but surprising he's talking about the ending in an interview culture it was inevitable but surprising in terms of Kendall having been so careful through the whole second season he shied away from his strength Kendall has Kendall has logan new in order to sacrifice all he would have to do it through his family he figured that the one chance he had to make was to make Kendall into the killer that's why at the end he smiles he's achieved what he was after my son now there is no ink on the page for season three nothing has been written nothing has been sketched out yet and the showrunner is very deliberately saying like everything that we're about right now that may be what's up we're in a place right now where we have literally no idea for sure so here's the question in the beginning episode you see what is the guy who's like shareholder suffice himself I think one of the things that I would like if season three does go into the direction of like whether this is logan plan or at least like Logan is proud of his son's transformation into becoming killer one of the things I would potentially be interested about that is like Logan feel now like Kendall is the right person to inherit the empire even though he's just like stabbed him in the front and like how does that fall gone like Roman shift like what does this do in terms of like reshuffling deck of the.

"There. You go all right back to all right three left. I'm hours most intriguing then we're done. This is great. I'm really enjoying how this is going so far. This has been fun other than when i compare joe flacco to kendall roy. Actually i really enjoyed that. I was going to say when you needlessly mentioned the patriots by. I'm sorry i won't do that again five months you won't do that again until i say what number three is okay. What is it. This is your favorite thing to talk about the last couple of weeks. Yeah dave chapelle. Sorry your second favorite thing to talk about the last couple of weeks the colts in a post andrew luck world. They've already made they've already been represented. A million dollar picks who jumped on six and a half for you to make me feel bad about this now. I'm kinda hyped for them. Yes yeah come join us. The more more i read about jacoby perset and everything that frank reich has built an everything thing about that team and what they've done the offense and strength of the line. I feel like the team can be pretty good and not not to say. There's no drop love when you lose andrew lock. That would be a ridiculous thing to say but i think your copay perset can surprise a lot of people and i think the team can do pretty well there again benefiting from potentially a week one that works in their fever. The charges are a good team but i also think the chargers are a debacle right now. No left tackle. We covered it with us out. During james's out the eight home stadium the durin james thing in particular though when you're going against quarterback who's trying to find his groove and prove yet he can command the offense offense the difference between having during james on the field and not on the field is kind of the only thing that matters he's like the most versatile defender and one of the most gifted defenders in the sport for that's been true since he was a freshman at florida state and that is just a huge thing for the colts to benefit from in week one and then if you look at the schedule a couple of weeks after that i mean the titans in week two eagles raiders chiefs by like can they be three into heading into the by. I say yes i think they can do. I think there's nobody believes gives an s in this accept everyone in this room and bill simmons mallory ribbon who i'm sure who's the quinton nelson yeah. Maybe he'll be saying that after during the week six by the way the two people that believe that the mic'ed up is picking up ended up being fake writes <hes> i think it was writing chirping while he was in his box but you mentioned took nelson to the line i mean that's a huge thing right and absolutely offense. Meanwhile here's building alliance so andrew luck wouldn't get hurt anymore in any retired when he finally had the land so this is the thing we're judging andrew interlock. Were not happy for that guy andrea listening in in in a burqa right now in the mountains somewhere in tibet good luck man. Oh happy for you the tendency the initial tendency is to look at what your copay did when he was last starting for the colts right or not fair. It's reasonable as an initial instinct but it's ultimately nonsensical for the reason you just said which is they've rebuilt the entire line that he's flying behind and a lot of the offense around him but ah playing behind one of if not the best pass blocking offensive line in the entire league then you have brian hoyer coming in little little veteran mentorship right someone to help them feel confident..

"Was interesting to me though as well that will back connor in a way that shift does not back tom right like it seems like it. It's a it's a real indictment of the relationship between shiv give and tom that will seems to care more about connor or at least like back his dream when that is not something that shift or or tom are really willing to do for each other and punctuated on the further by the fact that like as soon as the drinks are over shift just goes home and bangs out one willow leading man. I know she's like hey so. Let's hang out. No i think it's interesting to think about connor and woolas relationship because it's very transactional and then when connor you know is in his like narcissism mania. It's easier to echo back to a narcissist and just tell them what they wanna hear yeah and that's will as role in this especially since she gets so much out of it right and even when they watched the video that does end up getting sent out to the masses and the news uses covering it where connor is indeed yeah no taxes for me. I'm going to go to jail. She says oh he looks cute in the video which is just like. Oh my god all right back in hungary. The hunt is about to begin. I kendall and roman argo for a little walk in a moment home and kendall is like expressing some humanity right like i was surprised at yet but immediately it was suspicious by like i don't buy any humanity from kendall right now. A aqui is an agent of dad di di. It's a it's an active for something that i have yet to determine but he is like he is kendall roy agent of data add at this point do anything for dan yes yes. The the f. is <hes> so small that it doesn't get included in the acronym agent. If that agent of dad ah ken comes to rome he's like so what do you actually think of this and like rome who has not been trusting kendall nickname now. We're very we're very tight. Kennel kennel and roman or are talking and roman is like. I think that it's good for the company but i don't know and then kennels like so the biographer called me. Did she call you yeah. Are you thinking about doing it and like kendall. We'll come to find out is testing the waters with roman to see roman talk agent of dead agent of data attis undercover his deep cover for for kim. I mean it's it's totally seen in the hat. He's wearing the sunglasses so really i mean he's got the gun it really. He really embraced this. Look the shittiest spy movie ever but speaking of getting calls from people roman gets a call and he gets he gets. It's a phone call and we kind of skipped past this earlier but once everything about the news about <hes> logan wanting to go after p._g._m. Comes about roman wants to freelance a little a bit and he wants to score big points that he wants to because he knows that tabitha his girlfriend who apparently he has never slept with before which is that's a theme to continue to examine sam and it does seem to continue to examine for sure because of that because of his relationship with her apparently she knows naomi pierce clearly connected to the pierces of p._g._m. I i don't think that we know quite yet who naomi within that circle but obviously very very tight to the inner circle and tabitha tabitha who who has been in relations with they only peers in the past gives that number to rome and rome thinks that if he can go to her and make this happen then he's gonna look like a huge hero for dan. He takes this phone call while he's walking with ken. Ken wants to know what's going on in. Ken takes a special note of okay. That's happening smart doc i should i should pick up on this. Call that rome does not want to be also. It seems like the phone call wasn't great right well. If there was a bathroom nearby maybe maybe he quickly washes hands and pretend it never happened and walk out. It doesn't seem like the phone. Call is at that level of disastrous. It's it seems like the phone call is fairly fairly luke warm and so like you can get the sense that the person on the other line is not interested is not interested but maybe delivering that disinterest in a way that roman doesn't fully pickup up on because i don't think that he has like that same sort of like pale sheen about him denying reality type of deal that he had when the satellite blew up like he's able to go about his day a little bit more than he did. I mean i guess he went about his day at the wedding but he was still doing. It and i kind of like this shellshocked way yeah but he doesn't you know i don't think he alludes lewd anything going well because if it was going really well he would have been like yeah great awesome like you can tell in his voice that there is a level of disappointment at least so they go on the hunt such as it is which is horrible which was just released the board. Everybody's stand still and your guns in the middle and then we're going to release release the animals and you just shoot choo choo choo choo and it's trash your hunting skills our trash to the roy's but the bag up the bore and the music in background is like really underscoring the absolute lake like chaotic horrible absurdity of the moment of just the tragic tragic comedy if you will pardon show more of the hunting actually which was a relief for me because i hate watching stuff like that but then they show them posing for a picture that all of the get white everything they got and that's a lot of for i think for me like that's that's what i enjoyed about the presentation i love it. Was it really like these people who knows what the carbon footprint that they have on on the earth and on their souls from just like rocketing sitting around all over the world we have seen them flying far and wide just through a full season and change so far of of succession here they are are in hungary literally just a stand on some platforms and shoot at the ground and shoot some pigs and then grabbed them and go back in and that was what it was all four four and it's presented so quickly. It's cut together so fast. It's underscored by the music that gives it that false feeling of false epoch nece yes. I think that's a scene like that is really where a succession excels and for me would have been a very easily sleep number one highlight of the episode. If not for basically everything comes next as we're starting to get into the bore on the floor of it all because tom there's gonna be cornered by jerry and carl carl good to see you who are going to. He's trying to figure out how to approach them and be like hey so the p._g._m. G._m. thing like are we feeling good about this. You guys maybe want to talk to low. We're gonna battle of wants to do something about this and they come to him and eventually i could just like comes up like toms like having this artifice of like maybe you could do it and then eventually that clearly not working so well shit. Yeah jerry's like listen. I i talked to shave so i'm going to report back to shift as to whether you all the trader and then i think this is my favorite exchange. Change of the episode is jerry says 'em look heroes are born on the battlefield and tom response. That's also commonly where they are killed. There's so many good exchanges but that really is the top tier. That tickled may very much so tom go to logan and he's going to tip them off and he's he's gonna say the logan so look. I'm gonna say a thing. I know that the thing that i'm going to say i don't actually mean i don't actually believe but i'm gonna say a thing and i don't want you to be worried about it but i think these people they look at me like a leader and i would do something courageous when the moment called for and it's not that i'm not courageous. If the moment called for it i would be courageous. Rage slogan is like what the hell are you talking about. I was like the p._g._n. Thing like nobody really wants to do it and they're looking at me to represent them so and so that's the moment where slogans logan's like <hes> okay between that the biography thing and he finds out on his walk into the dinner that p._g._m. Deal <unk> has been compromised at that point yet. He's found that out yeah so there's a lot of burning buildings questions to be asked the the behind the scenes on the episodes are really really great and people will be watching them if you're not in this week's inside the episode with creator and showrunner jesse armstrong talked about what comes next and like sort of the inspiration behind it taking root and stalin and how how stone like drink water and have these huge dinners where he would be drinking water and encouraging everybody to get it really drunk so he could take advantage of their inebriated state and that's essentially what logan does here once. He finds out from tom what he finds out that he gets everybody. Super super tanked. He is seemingly fairly sober through it except you know drunk with power and drunk on his ego trip but he he basically basically does like a glorified version of of you know he's like he's like he's like jack. Nicholson departed sniffing around for rats rats rats. He doesn't have the same facial expression if only but he's like he's he's like calling out flank frank. You're a worm. You always come slithering. I am you little worm. He calls all these people out. He says we're gonna play a game on the floor and mike he keeps polls some people from the table. If they've been dishonest with him i the calls. Tom sends tom to the floor since carl to the floor. He asks jerry to stand up juries like look. If you want me to be honest like i had some reservations about this thing. She see that's honesty. Jerry can sit back down. Greg uh-huh greg stand up at greg's also had some questions about the thing as it goes to the floor the floor but that's not the rules the rules sir. If you're honest rules now becomes like this area like intense chaotic almost like lord of the flies type of thing where it has very tribal able very quickly and civilization is destroyed in the wild is here and this is the jungle and the laws are different. Now and people have to go sit on the foreign. They have join for their sausages and everybody's like logan's like get get it up everybody. Let's get this going and everyone was like four on four or the four and they're is all carnivorous at his went. Even the guy who was almost gonna pee in the bucket in front of everybody because logan had like tricked him into like you're going to have to go pee and the buck and then he tries to do loans like gross. It's disgusting. I dunno it was mesmerized. I just love how jerry at one point is like ethic. That was what he's telling. Everybody put both their work and personal phones on the table little. Did she know it was going to go a lot farther than that. I don't know if this is legal. It's like forget that doesn't matter. He says something awful tom. I it's like talking about his fragile ego. I don't wanna hear anything from you unless it's a grandson yet ed grandson a grandson that was shooting blanks. Tom you know i think no surprise like the baked in massage need to the world old view of a logan roy but i think worth paying attention to as it as it concerns like taking his his designs for shift seriously right and very specifically because she's a woman when he has kendall if he can train kendall backup. Why wouldn't he go for his number one boy over his his fourth born child who's a girl. I think that that is very much in logan's worldview you know just very genuinely punctuated by the fact that he says to tom like shut up until you whoever grandson it's not a grandchild a grandson. There's a great moment in the hole on the floor. Debacle were roman is like taking pictures of barry. He's super into it. He loves it and kendall snatches the phone way in denmark ation. I can't say it that fast enough occasions there we go but this is the moment where if you remember back to like the underground bachelor party and how roman was complaining about their childhood when kendall would like lock up in a cage and feed him dog food and that was the game right and how that has clearly stuck in romans cry and he had not let that go and it's that little brother syndrome of how your older brother just tortured you as a kid you see shades of that in this moment where her kendall who don't think of an especially like buffer jack guy is able to literally physically strong arm roman like he in his iphone is a face ide- right and so at one point like he holds the i._t. Holds like roman almost like a chokehold and forces him to stay like posed for the phones that he can scan romans base and unlock the phone which would be a great fear of mine. If my face idea actually recognized my face on my i don't have to be too concerned about that ever happening to me glasses on and you'd have to be in a very still position for your iphone. Your iphones very sensitive. My airport doesn't recognize me without my glasses on recognizes me.

"The episode is that kendall and roman arrive at the volta offices and roman is walking down the stairs and he goes oh look the putin's journalists pretend working which is great line and then when he tries to persuade his dad to shut down. The company has sales pitch. It's basically is that anywhere morales in this company with fat like these guys get away with shit that no one else in this company gets away with peaches really proud of running a tight ship and he's like this is this is the fat in the company and that was the one question which i had in terms of like. Is this realistic because i i have worked in in the scene like big legacy t._v. companies. I have worked in an seeing like digital media companies and if you ask me why the fat was it would not be the digital media news and i think this is another case of people using the terminology the synergy words of the lexicon to serve their interests interests. It doesn't really make any sense. You don't have enough facts to know if they're actually on the level. I mean we don't think we do know about vaulter. Not vice is they pivoted the video. They got screwed by facebook algorithm and they were messing with their traffic stats. I as much as i feel feel t to the vaulter storyline lake. It's not an irrational decision for them to write that thing down and sell the entire thing off. Also i think there was a roman said at some point his father i think kendall calls volta body pit and roman says no no. It's not a body pet. It's a fucking muesli pit and it doesn't fit with our any sort mike pauses and he's like you know core value and i feel like so that it doesn't it doesn't it's not adrienne. Vaulter don't belong under the same umbrella. Maybe wasn't newscorp investor in vice like they didn't use. This is a very good point but but it's also from what i can tell the logan logan roy expanded universe. It's holding company right. They have children's museum parks. How does that fit with their news network but also says to me like just given which ones older and which ones young into power dynamics. I always assumed that kendall handle was locked glenn and roman james but now i think it's the other way round now. I think that like lachlan has the genuine conservative is roman german and that is in a james who's like the guy who used to run a punk rock record label whose kendall well. What what do we think in and maybe this is stretching for a theme that is is not the intention of the creators of this show. What do we think they're saying about. Media by shutting down walter in this in this storyline tech is coming for them. They're hunkering down. They're not going to sell the company and they're divesting themselves of assets that appeal presumably to a younger generation do think they're saying anything about the state i really it seems like shutting down. Walter was more vehicle for showing who kendall roy is. I think than projecting the vision of media i mean this isn't like david simon like excavation muscle media then. I think that is what they're saying about. Media is that it's run by people serving their self interest not serving some broad directional actional view about where things are there are no principles yeah yeah and you know as as a former employee of univision you know which spun up its own version of fusion and then spun it down again just as quickly and sell off. We've all been vaulter..

Can we talk here about who were into on this show so i for by who i'm gonna go kendall as a son right so if we take all what kendall's actions are off the table people in this episode and you just talk about whether or not he is executing against his assignment as a son. He's rushing did a great job. He's tearing key data right. He has said head over and over and over again. What did you say at the end of the episode because my dad told me because my dad told me to. That's literally like and you can see there is no soul inside yeah anymore. It is left his body. It's like ed reed hit him with the helmet spine it and you saw the soul actually just come out the back but he's literally doing exactly what logan wants to do it. In a way that in the previous season i don't know that he was necessarily surly capable of showed that kind of not savviness but like ability to be clandestine. That's a great point because in the past he's kind of been not honest with himself about the fact that he's doing things because his dad either directly told him to or because his dad said on this course to be the person he is and now he's he's just plain spoken about. It told me to do this. My dad told me to gut your company so i did he. He reminds me of darth vader in a way in this in this episode because he's like you know with the darth. Vader is the henchman the emperor calls the shots darth is extremely powerful and scary but there's a lot of roiling emotion inside and kendall that scene when he's staring at himself in the bathroom.

"You give a shot and stop distracting and go back into it was very distracted when I was watching it or not. Not. I love Jeremy, strongest, KENDALL ROY. The best ROY since Hodgson is I know that I know that big, big praise and say this, this is not like me. You will be surprised. Dave hate watching is become anew past. Doesn't surprise me at all. I just can't believe it till we so long till I get into this, hey, watching just finished what Jean jacket Ryan. The PLO of which was just so hilariously and unfathomably. Unbelievable. It was a human delight. Just say this hate watching is violence posters for Jack Ryan. The actor who's playing him, the guy from the office, the English office mono? No, no, no. The American John Kuczynski and I think it's brilliant in the office by just don't really by him in that kind of a role. It's just he's itchy very good in that role. It's just like everything around him essentially any terrorist Djerma where the terrorist has huge cells that are a threat to the world. And then when he's about to pull off his most, desperately deploy decided not to use any of those cells, but does do the plot himself and gain to American himself and do the job bombing himself just purely so that we can wrap up the television show the television show jet Ryan, actually unfathomable and unlocking cell after cell. If the cell to bring down the big terrorist would be followed interesting than the. "Wedding. Crashers really funny. I really enjoyed it. I wish I could shake my head the whole. No, they'd never make this movie. Now in that, I wish more conditions most rewatch -able seen the first wedding crash montage, which crosses a couple lines took a week to shoot. It's really great. It's one of those scenes where I, I'm actually not surprised to took a week to week to shoot. 'cause watching, you're like, wow, this is they really went all in on this montage and these guys singing shouted, seventeen differ, weddings, spectacular. I agree. It's really well done. It's fun to watch. I twenty minutes of this movie big me feel like KENDALL ROY in the Wolfert ruin the Mexico. Like I just like it's it's absolutely ecstatic. Yeah, it's great. The touch football scene is just unbelievable, hot. I wanted more of it. I could have gone up for another three or four minutes. I want to say a couple more button hooks from h mcadam can I just say really quickly about hot route is that that's a joke that I'll take with me to migrate because it's a, it's a joke that if you if you played Madden and like you played badmouth friends and you're just like your hot route, hot rod, a ac- like shading the left here. It's like it's one of those things that like I won't be able to explain to someone in ten years when they're like, what the fuck is hot route me or something, but I'm gonna. I'm gonna treasure it for really long time. Hot rod, right? Seven. Seven, seven look for for this will be the guy holding the ball job. What? Brett seven. I don't know what red seven means hot rap. I've also been in that position before where we're on somebody's lawn and playing a game, and I'm trying to take the game really seriously, and I'm calling plays and shit, and some guy's trying to flirt with a girl and I'm like, dude, the Atkins on the game. It's like, what are you doing? Isolate their house and that scene too. I, you can't for me lover of our real estate. You can't get better for me than like a Kennedy compound type of touch football rate. Yeah, wherever that was, it was magnificent. Comper is like you gotta took that rush. He's really great. The rugby shared his fantastic. Awesome rugby. Do just let me know what we'd do Cooper, let's it's coming. Okay, the dinner table hand jabs scene is just flat out. Fucking funny. Vince great it. It's one of the better Vince Vaughn three minutes. It's a lot more explicit than I recall. There are a lot of Sean rated version. Didn't this time? It is the end rated version worse. I, it's just I think it goes on a little longer maybe or maybe it's a little bit more graphic. There's a lot of like close up shots of the hand in the fingers action, which is not something that I think I've ever seen in the movie where I was like they are explicitly identifying how work, if how many times have you pot it with him where you've had to talk about sexual acts, the forest really scarring. That's one of the more upsetting. What the most of the conversations about sexy, sadness, spend, Mathies microphones. The the. I saw when I went to rent this movie, there was the what was it called? Like the cork tradition. Cork, it's unreal. Yeah. So I went and googled what I got from it, and it was basically just longer versions of the same scenes. That was like this movie who's hurting too long movie probably should've clocked in at one forty. It was a Chris born, fifty nine yet along this is it all time scroll over the running time and you're like, that has to be a mistake. My computer must be broken, our twenty one minutes. And then the last rewatch seem for me to get the wedding. Crash montage, touch football, saying dinner table hand job will Ferrell's camera. Yeah. Is there anything else I'm missing. I've a long running bit of just saying you motorboat in son of a bitch to my little brother..

This is the person that was writing that book and the person that's not trying to make TV show it is a towering astonishing achievement in writing and performance and intent a can't get over it. And you know, 'cause watched again and I'm surprised by every every single time it's it's, it's almost overwhelming. Good. That's a good. That's a good rallying cry for it. Quick aside here. Yeah, the official Twitter account of Carville ice cream wants to know what our favorite flavor of ice cream is. Do you think fudgy the whale personally rights? See, I now I think that that's really sweet that they did that. Okay. But I'm not going. To sell out and only pick a Carville flavor. Oh, sure. I can't be bought. So I'm saying rocky road. Do they make rocky road? No, I don't know. I'm saying the rocky road is objectively my face, like outside of different under no banner does it doesn't matter. Sorry. I like I can't be bought. I would just think as the father of children away stream is like half your bloodstream right now. I don't indulge ice cream is fucking currency. That's what it is. It's not a treat for me other day. And I said, I actually said the words ice cream in front of Andy's barely verbal young Jones. You see her face and she locked eyes with me like I was Ricky Martin and she was out Pacino. And he he, she was like, by the time I get to j she was like. Yeah, she looked at you. She looked to you like KENDALL looked at me like I was the carve Elway. You look to you like KENDALL ROY. I in a room full of people with wolf tattoos. Okay. That was for real and I want you to know her preferred method of eating ice cream. He doesn't need a spoon. She doesn't eat hands. She Bob's for fucking apple. Yeah. I mean, like she goes face first of the ice cream, so I love the joy brings everyone else in my life. And you frankly. Yeah, I mean, what you want me to say, like cease Elton caramel from connel's until just like I just don't want you out here sucking on like a Guatemalan bean being with delicious ice cream like that's just so counter to what is cream supposed to be listened. The other day was was mad hot here. I took my older daughter for some ice cream. You know what I had a cone of ice cream and it was great. I loved it. Good. I enjoy. It's good. We want. What do you want me to say here? I'm not. You're putting me into a box year. I'm criticizing nice. I know everybody loves ice cream. This is like on the Tommy Laron of ice. Is rough. I'm getting rid till the Alex jar asks going along with the ringers theme this week. What is the best TV show theme. Song of the century does succession take the cake? I'm gonna go no and say, I am very partial to the explosions in the sky, ripping off or Omagh in front of the Atlantic. Yeah, WG Snuffy Walden house. That's a great call. I mean, I don't. I haven't given this enough thought to correctly way in, but I will say that there are certain shows like thirty rock and Kimmy Schmidt and breaking bad. And yes, accession that you can just tell the took the time to think about it..
