This encapsulation of colonialism. Remove that carriage. Yeah. So the carriages gotta go. Oh, for sure, It's going to sink to the bottom of the beautiful carriage. I wish I had a picture of it. The vaccine induces very good immune responses against the virus that can clean up any residual or leftover virus. Just this week, Texas Roadhouse founder and CEO Ken Taylor Died by suicide. It's really kind of saved us because the basketball soccer are our college football teams sucked really. Except Notre Dame were kind of side Notre Dame fans, but, um, it's really saved us and I looked at her and I said All the All the guys are standing there. Um, Terry Bradshaw and that whole crew and they have like that makeshift fake. Um A carpet like a field and they're all talking about the game, right? Right, And they're going to talk about the next game. And I said, You don't know how easy their jobs are. There's six of them to talk about one game, All right, they all get about 30. Seconds to say something completely obvious about what the game is coming up that we all know before the ball is snapped. We've talked more about sports in the last two hours, and they have to do in an entire broadcast over many hours. They never say and I love all these guys is clear. They're great. They're great. I love him How he is a great pray personality and I love him when he was a raider, but they never say anything on these pre or post game shows that I go. Oh, man. You think about that, right? Yeah, I think I think the team that wins the turnover battle probably wins the game. Oh, my God. I mean, it's the same stuff. You gotta find a way to hold Aaron Rodgers down to maybe 2 50. Then put that running game and check and then I'm not hating. No, I'm not hating. Look, you You got lucky enough to get a job like that. You continue to look good and act like you have some sense. And you're gonna get paid. These guys get paid millions of dollars. You stand there, Watch the game and then say, Boy, the Atlanta Falcons ran the ball. Well, today, that's why they won. Well, Thank you Now one interesting dynamic with urban Meyer. You think OK? Is the college coach going to come in and say OK, guys, I want you to run, laps, run laps, see, And you're not gonna have any water. He's not gonna be that guy because urban Meyer was the guy that let Hernandez shoot. People in the face of the University of Florida still play football. So is he gonna be more of a rogue operator than he is a strict disciplinarian or slide right in. Yeah, I think he's gonna think he's going to actually do a really good job. Probably will. And with Trevor Laurence, he can build the whole team around them. They've got a good defense, right? Still. And I don't know, considering often they were on the field. They were bad, right. So there you go. He kind of looks like a ferret. Yes. Oh, David James has announced He's running for office. So there you go. David James, does that look like a ferret? That was urban Meyer? Yeah, it looks like five because he's gonna call. Go do what did Dave say? Right? Yeah. Please don't look like that. Uh, parents are cute. So that's official. Now he has put his name in the hat for the run in 2022. We'll get a new mayor. People forget, uh, Greg's Greg fissures. Um Popularity went quickly in the right when he got elected. That's for the third time on, so if you were like, do we got four more years of great? It started waning before that, after his first term, I thought he was very pragmatic Mayor governing everybody. I said, You know what? That's a Democrat. I could vote for felons in Jefferson County. And then he started siding with the activist on the extreme left, and I thought, OK, he's not governing everybody anymore. It's about bike lanes, and it's about air quality and resiliency over law and order, and I can't get can get down with that. You know, I like about Connie Leonard. What's that? I like her more than I like her husband. Can't Taylor She says Armstrong was a Democrat. Rebecca Jackson was a Republican in Jefferson County Judge rejected There You go. There you go. Those are pretty good. Famous names. Thank you, Connie. From way three Francine are questions. Um That's when in front for the youngsters that Ken Taylor chime in on Urban Meyer or Philip Rivers? No, because Connie listens to our show. Thank you, Connie. Can't Taylor's absorbed with himself? That's true. Thank you s o people. There are little younger than I don't know when they passed the combined Jefferson County and City there used to be two equal parts. Jefferson County. And the city of Louisville. Jefferson County had their own police force had their own Metro Council. They had everything. And then the city had completely separate, like, imagine what the city would look like if it was still separated. Um Hmm. I hindsight. I think it was one of the biggest mistakes that the city's ever done was to combine the Metro. Sorry, Jerry Abramson and a same everyone's well at the gym because the workout, same gym. But I'm sorry it was. It's been a disaster. And it's they combined offices, which wasn't good. So now I live in Jefferson. What was was Jefferson County. Live in ST Mathews that was part of Jefferson County. So thank God. I have the city of ST Matthews to cut the grass to do all that kind of stuff in policing, But there's a lot of parts of Jefferson County that sort of got left behind. When the focus became, let's all make sure we got downtown covered. But Tony as you're coming into the city from either direction, and don't you feel a sense of pride as you look around at the trees and no buildings and realize you just entered the 16th largest city in the country. Doesn't that make you feel? Well, Here's the deal. I was in a marketing meeting citywide in that right after that happened and somebody raised their hand and said, Well, can't we market? The fact that we're the number 12 size market in America now? And people started to grumble and laugh. And they said, that's not how they count TV and radio. No, the second market and we're always going to be the 52nd market and the person I felt bad for her, But she she kind of made felt like she was stupid, but you know what? She was sold that For the entire time to vote for this stupid metro combine. Well, NAMI by those by that logic there, and the answer is within our last discussion. What actually is the largest city in the country? You know? Do you know New York City? Jacksonville, Florida. Base based on land area. That's the Louisville 16th. Detective he was created by Jack Boyle interesting, Jack, boy, Lisa was actually a criminal. He was serving time in sing sing. Okay. And you know, he was bored. So he started writing in prison and invented and created this. Character of Boston Blackie like in the nineteen nineteen ten thousand nine hundred fifteen around there. And then the book was published and became a very popular. Character Blackie was a criminal. It was a safecracker a master thief. But then he went to jail he was rehabilitated rehabilitated. He used his knowledge of the underworld to fight crime. He was known as enemy to those who make him an enemy friend to those who have no friend, and then there were silent films for a little while from nineteen thousand nine hundred nineteen twenty seven then Columbia Pictures, brought Boston Blackie to the silver screen in Nino talkies and the cast Chester Morris in fourteen films. That's a lot of films. You know, so it was very popular character and then NBC radio brought Boston Blackie to the airwaves as a summer replacement for the Andy show in one thousand nine hundred forty four and they brought Chester Morris. The phil. Actor to play that part. But that was only a summer replacement when it came back to radio one thousand nine hundred forty five they cast dick calmer is Boston Blackie. And then there was a television series as well with Ken Taylor. So we're going to listen to a Boston Blackie radio show going back to June eleventh nineteen forty seven and are you ready for this? "Thanks for being here. Hey, you know, there are multiple Bill man's, but I do appreciate not to me. I love just one gospel singer name Bill man. Really? Yeah, basketball player. But for West Virginia university named Bill man. But I'm the one who's here. You know what? Maybe next time I'll get one of them. That's right. We'll do. They might have better takes to compare contrast who knows. We've got some real estate news. We've got some restaurant news who, let's start with the restaurant news and it's it's Texas roadhouse and AAA, and they're both falling. But for different reasons, unless start with Texas roadhouse second quarter results. You tell me, why is this stock down? When it's I get that there are results that they posted that are below expectations, but I see a restaurant in the middle of two thousand eighteen posting same store, sales growth of nearly six percent. Yeah, company owned location. Now most every restaurant that is publicly traded would kill for those kind of numbers. They may be so ultimately, and you started by saying that the two restaurant chains are down for different reasons. It's a little bit true, but there is something that they both have in common and that's labor costs. And so can't Taylor came out in the conference call. I said, look, everything is going great. At the restaurants. We've been putting investments into a lot of things including training our staff, and we're paying their more. And some of that is coming from us choosing to pay more, which is great. That's the Costco model. And some of it is the reality that labor, the labor market is tight. And so when. The market sees that they'll say, okay, this isn't a cost. It's one time in nature. That's probably a sustained pressure on the business, and that's okay. Me really is Texas roadhouse both as a stock. And as you mentioned as a company that has had a fantastic few years, and so, yeah, labor costs have gone up, and I think that that's that's really primarily the issue there because the results were fantastic. One thing on the same store sales because they've got company on locations. They've got franchise locations. The franchise comps were about two percentage points lower than the company owned ones is that like when you see something like that, they're all all the good stuff for themselves. I mean, does that, I think for someone who might be new to restaurants, they might look at that and just, you know, he's that a cause for concern, or is that just sort of or is that an opportunity for Ken Taylor and his team to go to the franchisees and say, hey, look. If we look at us. Well, we've got some tips if you're looking to boost your comps a little bit, you know, it's a really good question. One of the really interesting things about how Texas roadhouse is managed is that they do a really, really good job of taking ideas that come from franchisees and then rolling them out across their stores and then back out to the franchisees. So I don't know. I mean, maybe there's an Easter egg in there and some franchisees told them something amazing that's in the process of being rolled out to everyone else. But generally speaking, it is it's it's a pretty sustainable gap that you'll see a little bit better performance at their company owned stores. And you see the franchisees. I don't think that there's anything. It's not a huge gap, so you know, it would be it would be great to say, I guess they can pull this lever and it'll be it'll be flat, but I don't think that's the case before we move on lashes. Say later in the podcast, we'll be dipping into the full mailbag. I just got an Email the other day from rich Smith. Say the word Smith, I think it might be the rich Smith. It was a writer here at the full, but it was a different Email address. So maybe a different Richmond, just a listener race. There was basically Richmond saying, hey, I'm traveling and I'm close to a bubbas thirty three because Texas roadhouse has a sports bar model called bubbas thirty three. And as I've mentioned before in this podcast, there's not one within a couple hundred miles of here, so so rich is going to do a little boots on the ground research and send his sent his thought. I am very excited to hear what he has to say about bubbas. Third, do you remember when Ken Taylor was here? It was at last year for full fast..

"Insulted Magruder. There's a new twist in the Papa. John's story last week. Founder, John Schneider resigned as chairman after admitting that he had used the n. word on a conference call or guys this week. Schneider said it was a mistake to resign. He said the board's decision to remove him was based on quote, rumor and innuendo and David, he owns twenty nine percent of the company stock and he's still sitting on the board. So this is a little bit awkward in this morning. Forbes came out with an article called the inside story of Papa. John's toxic culture, basically talking about broke culture, big, big ego, and just all sorts of things that shot her has been up to. And it's like, okay, that's supposed to happen in Silicon Valley, not in Louisville, what? What are you doing? Man, but yeah, he's still twenty nine percent of the company. He's still plastered on the pizza boxes and the marketing, although that's really been pulled back. And then it's also come out this week that Wendy's and Papa John's before. All this stuff came up or the past couple of months. They are actually in talks to merge. Have some sort of merger. So going forward, if you're the board of directors at Papa, John's I think you have to really consider that possibility. Maybe the best step forward for the company is to look for a merger or a sale because man, the, this just seems like a train wreck that keeps exceleron. And when you have on the board, I guess, you know, he would have to be in favor of buyout or merger for it to go through, but also major league baseball suspended their partnership with Papa John's. So it's not just the NFL the Papa. John's name is coming off of the university of Louisville football stadium. So really is a train wreck. Here they got a, you know, figure out something quickly. I think to the boards credit, they have acted pretty quickly to remove distance themselves from shot her in terms of the marketing, the branding, but Papa. John's like John is still in the name that the founders still in the name. Is there a Papa John's bowl? I mean, you're talking about coming off the stadium. I mean, is there a bowl game? I think there is a Papa. John's. I'm not sure about that. Imagine that's probably on the chopping block as well. Do you have to do you have to some point change the name of the company? Or is this one of those stories where for the average buyer, if I'm looking at pizza and I like Papa John's pizza as my kids do it. This story doesn't really matter that much or some point or they're gonna have to change the name. I think longer term they're probably okay with the name, especially when you're taking, you know, Schneider off of the marketing and the branding. I would think three years from now you'd be fine, especially if they do partner with someone like a Wendy's or some other restaurant chain right now. Papa John's is valued at their enterprise values, two point, three billion dollars. Buffalo Wild Wings was bought for two point, nine billion dollars by Rb so it is a reasonable ballpark for some sort of acquisition or merger. So I look for something like that over the next year because I really think going forward as independent company with Schneider, still owning almost a third of the company and sitting on the board. That's just going to be a really tough situation and advocate, and someone who is. I would love to hear from on this who sits on Papa. John's board of directors is Texas roadhouse, founder and CEO Ken Taylor who was very much a straight shooter as we know we've interviewed him before. I would just love to hear his perspective because he also works in Louisville, and I think he's he's been involved with Schneider and Papa. John's for awhile would just be curious to get his perspective on everything that's going on with the company because now apparently with this Forbes article coming out, there's a lot of cultural and leadership issues at the company that didn't just pop up the past year to this has been going on for a long time. So I think it's important to that for everything that's gone wrong here. And I think the best thing they can do just get out of the headlines in one way shape before don't let this thing just keep dragging down through the headlines, but for everything that's gone wrong. Let's let's not dismiss the things that have gone, right?.
