How MLB can get creative, experiment and make the most of a delayed season
"Well today should have been a really big day I'll build up day for the sport of major league baseball's tomorrow of course was the opening day we're gonna play last year's opening day four o'clock tomorrow they'll be happy to kind of get our fix I know I'm going to need it I know Major League Baseball and different platforms thrown out a bunch of classic games to more people to watch it's not gonna be the same tomorrow's supposed to be opening day we don't know when this is going to happen but today here's a way to get today and what about Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia second here to talk about all the stuff today there was a whole bunch Jeff Passan ESPN Ken Rosenthal of the athletic and Jayson stark and everyone was kind of writing about Hey baseball trying to get together down figure out what this could look like when it does return Scott Boras that idea for the World Series are Christmas twice weekly double headers and all star week start kind of starting the season with the all star game there's a lot of ideas being floated in the I I think you just have a vote you probably would vote in like the most popular players like Bryce Harper yeah they did a fan vote right now who to get in Mike trout Bryce Harper I think those guys that like have a random good year who don't vote for them because you don't know what's going to happen you don't have any sex or anything like that well that's a good thing let's let's bring a Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia joining us right now what's up Corey not much your I think I was outside for eleven seconds to learn so you know it's just another day another day in quarantine yeah you know what's happened to me Korean I think part of it is the the rhythm of the sports calendar like the Sixers play Tuesday all of you know that Phillies have this spring training in this day I just have no idea what day it is like I know the weekends the weekend as I'm not doing a show but like I I don't even know what day it is like Tuesday Wednesday it's all the same right now yeah I totally hear you I feel the same way in like every article I've written recently I've written the wrong there's always you know if I'm saying you know this players at this on Monday or this guy's like I always have a drunkard we in that way still the dog days of the baseball season because quite frankly that's how it gets during a hundred sixty two game schedule for me as well yeah well we're not having one of those this year that that that is that's for certain we don't know what the season will look like hopefully will be played the court today there a lot ideas being thrown out by people that know people in baseball weather be Jeff Passan or Ken Rosenthal Jayson stark ideas what this could look like don't know throw a couple at you and you tell me what you thought when you saw or as I say it what's your thought on it seems like they want to play as many games as possible when we're allowed to to make it a representative season you know if we start in July we're looking at basically half a year but today I I saw a passive wrote that players are open to the idea of of maybe up to once a week or twice a week having double headers what do you think about that I think it's going to be a necessity because to me it feels like the magic numbers like a hundred twenty issue games if you can get that many in the season I don't think they sold one any fewer than a hundred and when you start to think about how long how deep you're going to get into the calendar let's say you know even if you were the most optimistically instead of the regular season could potentially start on June first okay if it's a hundred twenty greens into regular season if it starts on June first even if you have no off days that would end in works like for suckers out in October right so then you're talking about the beginning of the playoffs the plastic about what three three and a half weeks and months so the very safest estimate would have that season ended in early November so I just feel like you're gonna have to have double headers in some form it would be irresponsible I think baseball to having three forties a week once a week all year I would to AT and record the thing is if the players are okay with that that then I and then I'm on board I would think they wouldn't be because of that what it would do to them but the one part about is if we if we go down that route if they're gonna do multiple double headers a week to make it a more representative season they have to adjust the rosters that they have to help these teams especially with pitchers like I already I'm projecting there's going to be more injuries because picture to try to ramp back up and it's it's gonna be a whole thing like the whole the whole set up of the twenty six man roster the limits on pictures that they'd have to ease that or change that well I think it's going to be an expanded roster when the season first begins and it might be an expanded roster all the way through you know you could see roster as the twenty eight guys thirty die instead of twenty six because think about what the issues are brought up right starting pitchers are not going to be going deep into games especially the first month or so of this regular season like it's gonna be quite a while until the team feels comfortable turning loose their east coast seven innings because you got to be thinking about the long term I mean there are some benefits to that as well because you know the shortened season I'm thinking of a guy like Aaron always been a two hundred twelve innings and two hundred two innings the last few years now what he has no choice but to have a a lesser workload in twenty twenty so perhaps that helps him out long term but I I'm with you on the pitching injuries it's a major concern that's why I don't think it should be double headers multiple days a week because then thank you probably first possibly appearing in both games of a doubleheader you know you just open up all these other cans of worms Corey Seidman NBC sports Philadelphia joining us here as we discuss you know what's going on with all these talks in baseball how they could put this season together whatever starts a Corey Tesco Boris and I'm not surprised he would he become a radical idea he doesn't mind the idea of this thing lasting till next Christmas and having neutral site games the playoffs Corey I am okay with that to start the season without fans just so they could start the season I'll I'll watch and listen to baseball even if I can't go to baseball games but the idea on the back and if it lasts really long already the thought is well I will play in neutral sites where it's warmer so like Philadelphia New York Boston you really can't play baseball there November December but you can and Miami in Arizona what not I feel like the post season without the fans because of the weather and and the date that wouldn't feel right I don't think baseball plays right in a neutral site what do you think no I don't I wouldn't like that either I mean it would result in a winning team the fans what no fan would have gotten to experience that that clinching World Series game which is you know that's that's a tough pill to swallow I mean I don't think this is gonna last Christmas that's you know fun content from sky force but I think there are other issues at play to like Christmas is one of the biggest things that you're looking at the calendar they're still NFL regular season going on it's beach season baseball would really be competing for eyeballs at the World Series repeat right around that time I don't think it's going to get that far it's a great you know you can't have an outdoor sport that you know go that long when you're still making some cold weather cities like baseball it's not like football it's not designed to be played in thirty degree weather we see that in April every year when you know you have guys wearing long sleeves and your skin grip the ball in those early season

Houston Astros' Carlos Correa's defense of Jose Altuve
"Astro shortstop Carlos Correa was very outspoken over the weekend about the accusations against his team some of the comments that were made around baseball on Friday and after about the Astros most notably most famously Cody Ballenger who played for the Dodgers was very critical of the Astros was very harsh on them on Friday and didn't hold back when he thought that he believed Jose Altuve a stolen MVP award for Erin judge that the Astros stole a World Series from the Dodgers and the Dodgers have a very very legitimate gripe on the conversation around the sign stealing and the accusations is the Astros in two thousand and seventeen Dodgers fans and the Dodgers faithful and the organization itself have a very serious scribe much more serious than the Yankees gripe when they didn't score any runs in the four games of the Astros won and I understand that that doesn't totally excuse the fact that the Astros cheated and again to me it doesn't matter how much she did or didn't help them they cheated and even if they tried to cheat and couldn't decipher the signs that still cheating and that's still against the rules and you should still be heavily criticized alternately punished for that so the Dodgers have a legitimate gripe Ballenger I don't think was really that far out there on anything that he said but Carlos qureia the Astros shortstop came to the defense of his team mate I thought qureia had more than a few comments that worked out good for him and the Astros and I thought the career had more than a few comments that did work out great for him and the Astros so I'll start with the good comments the comments the winning qureia's favor first a middling comment or two in the ones that it Corradino great job talking about the Astros first of all qureia's comments about wholesale to very and clearing Jose Altuve base name those are probably the best pieces of evidence in vindicating wholesale to very not the Astros Jose out to pay for what happened in two thousand seventeen qureia made it very clear to Ken Rosenthal the athletic multiple times they'll to they did not cheat he did not want the banging going on during his at bats if there was banging that went on he told them to stop banging during his at bats and I know many people are saying well the water hose out too vague apologize for what happened well wholesale to they apologize for not stopping it he did apologize for using the system he apologized for not stopping it's qureia talking about to say and how he didn't like it again I thought that was a really good comment and for people critical of the tattoo story for Jose out to very not wanting his shirt ripped off in the walk off home run situation in two thousand nineteen if Carlos Correa's going to defend wholesale to rate and a lot about it wouldn't he create something a lot more believable then Jose Altuve a has a bad tattoo and I he don't want anybody to see it and I didn't want anybody to see it so we can refer shirt off when they're when the light there'd be a little bit more believable what would you try to make it less far fetched that yeah he'd like us to add to that moment so we don't want anybody to see it by the way we got a little bit more to the old the wife didn't want the shirt ripped off qureia said that Jose Altuve ETS wife called his wife I look I'm not married but I've had girlfriends I've got a girlfriend now and we girlfriends talk to girlfriends when wives talk to whites when girlfriends talk to whites stuff gets done okay ladies when they get together and they run those households and they want their men to work together on something to get something done or to keep something from happening in the future it gets dark so I thought paraded a really good job clearing wholesale two days name I didn't want to believe Jose Altuve they cheated they were obviously bangs on the trash can during out to pay it back so we can see on video and we can hear on these audio clips the people have started to break down on social media and it became very clear that Hey the people the Baylor Trask and sometimes they just banged it and then I'll to base it don't do it and even somebody on social media clocked all the bags that he heard on on video and they could say that it never really happened more than once it out to vase at bats and sorts of was I thought courageously good job clearing up to his name I thought he did a pretty good job showing remorse he apologized a bunch of different times he explained that the Astros have to live with that that they have to put their heads down at night the to think about the fact that they cheated on their way to a two thousand and seventeen World Series I thought that was a good amount of remorse he was the player the show the most from wars in interviews this week he continued to show more remorse not cheating in two thousand nineteen qureia was adamant that the Astros did not use the trashcan banking system in two thousand eighteen two thousand nineteen the commissioner's office said that they did not use that trash can bring system into thousand nineteen they did say the commissioner's office the commissioner's report did say they cheated two thousand eighteen credits plane that was the codebreakers system that was up stairs not the players he thought of the talk of the buzzers was ludicrous any claimed and double down yet again that they did it clean and two thousand eighteen and they did a clean in two thousand and nineteen unfortunately for Carlos qureia the Astros do you believe a cheater speculation on what they did or didn't do it's really tough to say those are the good things I think paraded the middling thing where I don't know if it's good or I don't know if it's bad what determined yet he would have to Cody Bilger decided Cody villagers failures as a baseball player in the playoffs in two thousand seventeen he went after the Dodgers he was fine doing that I like that I like with athletes speak their mind I like when they speak their opinions and I really like it when they talk to each other through the media so that we can all hear about instead of handling it behind closed doors like most people would do so here's what I don't think career did very well I don't think astro shortstop Carlos creation defended Jim cranes comments the comments the crane made at his press conference we're not sure how much it helped qureia that day said to help them and the career went on to say well crane never played baseball so he doesn't know he's on familiar he should have just declined to discuss Jim cranes comments in my opinion and then I don't think courageous a really good job talking about the World Series where he claimed that they didn't cheat the World Series because well it was too hard to decipher the opponent signs in the World Series we tried to cheat but didn't complete the act of cheating is not good enough but that's not a good excuse that's not a good call me well you know the the they had a lot of different songs that we we saw all the signs of we could decide from that's not a good enough the that's not a good explanation okay again I think the biggest thing for me and I don't know how you exactly feel but we want to hear from you at Cody underscore students on Twitter as well as one hundred two to four two zero zero four if you want to get in on this tell me if it helped or didn't help that doesn't matter to me they tried the system and by trying it they broke the rules okay the rules are not broken because they deciphered the signs correctly and it was an advantage for them the rules were broken when they attempted to decipher the signs using cameras and try to relate that to the batter that's breaking the rules okay the problem that qureia runs into here is I'm sure Astros fans love this heck I really liked it again I love the with athletes talk to each other through the media I love it when a guy comes out passionately defends teammate goes at different people who may be critical the team I love that okay but all he did was fanned the flames for the other twenty eight fan bases were really ticked off I see twenty eight because the red Sox is still under investigation and notice they've been very quiet on this thing will baseball finish up finishes up their investigation the red Sox the biggest thing here for the Astros going for for Carlos Correa for Jose Altuve a for any of those players implicated in cheating in their time in Houston they can't prove that they are innocent almost nobody can prove their innocence that's what members of the Astros have to rely on the commissioner's report so much they have to keep pointing back to that's why Jim crane leaned on it so heavily in this press conference those are the only people that can clear the Astros name it's easily proven that they cheated they've even admitted to at this point they can't prove that they didn't do it they can't bring evidence to the case and said look we're not cheating here the only thing the Astros can bring to the conversation at this point are there comments and their conversations about how they didn't do it let's be very honest with ourselves here how often do you believe a cheater how often do you believe someone who has wronged you when they say I didn't wrong you like you think I wrong to you but I did wrong user how often would you believe that person it's very hard to believe the Astros it's very hard to believe them when they say they didn't cheat and two thousand eighteen or they didn't change in two thousand nineteen and that's why conversation persist about buzzers and a lack of a thorough investigation by
Carlos Correa fires back at Cody Bellinger
"Jeff as Mets and Yankees position players continue filing into camp player some all around baseball continue to take verbal shots the Houston Astros over the cheating scandal Cody Bellinger the Dodgers was one of those players who ripped the Astros in repose a al to say in particular Carlos Correa of the Astros responded today Hadi billing there's job is to look for information getting form know the facts for sure before he stands in front of cameras to talk about other players you should get inform you should be informed before you talk all our players if you don't know the facts when you get a job ray in particular is talking about al to say he said Jose Altuve ETS one astro who did not cheat Korea told all that to Ken Rosenthal of the

"The day on Wednesday as the deadline slides through and there you have the announcement Ken Rosenthal comes out and says Hey the Houston Astros have taken the lead it's no longer the Atlanta Braves who won the day and I definitely think that it's unfortunate for Atlanta and in the case of then having the spotlight for a couple of minutes based on the addition of Shane Greene in their bull pen closing now but the arrival of great keep to a rotation where he is now the third pitcher in that playoff rotation is pretty damn impressive the only other thing that was as big of news I guess if you want to look at Wednesday's deal deadline that came and went was the New York Yankees so once you listen to Brian Cashman also Madden is out so definitely be talking about that this our chat with John Kincaid coming up next then Madden is Jana Pat my homes and Alex gold and and other chiefs fans are probably just salivating and comatose at the idea of just playing the homes every single time but I do have a somewhat of a review and it's going to be mostly positive by all means but let's listen to Brian Cashman as he explains first why he wasn't willing to overpay on any major deal the over pay you as a buyer you have to for the most part is has to hurt I get that but I was not willing to do what was available and what was being presented yes Sir and and clearly my counterparts were unwilling to do what I was willing to do in my offer so maybe my counterparts felt my my offers are underwhelming in knife certainly felt their offers are overwhelming we just never matched up yeah and let's be honest when you're on your negotiating and you're sending out the old propositions like Brian Cashman just alluded that he was doing and you're under cutting and you're under valuing what you want you're essentially just going through the motions your sensually just being out there being available in the case that something falls through the cracks in your lap and you're like whoa whoa we didn't expect this I had no point that I expect that phone call to happen to me that day before the deadline so yeah I had to jump on that outside something ridiculous that would fall in your lap that would make the Yankees that much better and I guess maybe they were upset that you know Stroman didn't land in their lap but the Yankees not making a move on the surface I think it's funny because you laugh and say ha the Yankees even in this series or season I should say in which they've been heavily favored for the most part dealing with a lot of injury dealing with a lot of health issues they still at the top of the AL east still one of the best teams in baseball couldn't find a way to make a move and I think that was what initially people were saying just because it was funny to kind of poke at the Yankees but Catherine goes a little further explains that when guys get healthy when body start to come back essentially dealing with a new team in the New York Yankees these lower prices that I felt were making things way out of reach so when a regional landline so you know that's why we're here today talking about the decision to do do what we did which was stand Pat fall back on that current roster of guys we have in there and then obviously way for the some of the people that we have on our disable listed the come back now make no mistake no other team could get away with this really no other team it's not like the Astros had just to trade for Zach cranky where he is now part of that rotation you know you've got carrot cold of course Justin Verlander and now Greg he not to mention but Wade Miley as well the post season so you've got a ridiculous staff you needed to add you needed to bolster I understand that was exactly thank you that you needed to go out and grab no but that's a hell of a doesn't hurt that's one hell of a cherry on the top sprinkles on the top right there the Yankees was they were the only team it Major League Baseball that's in contention that did not have to do anything and that's astounding that is more a statement about the New York Yankees that it is anything else the Houston Astros the Atlanta Braves the rest of baseball we already saw Cleveland make a move and again there's a little rest there but still the positive is clearly the plus side of that is clearly evident as to why Cleveland would improve their line of going into the postseason at least in this wild card chase in division race as well the Yankees are the only team that could lead jet turned around look at their fan base and say we didn't make a move and here's why and not be vilified rate to the coals questioned the man for answers none of that just we get it yeah maybe a little but we thought you get somebody like Strom and maybe a little bit we thought you would bring in a body a warm body but come on would you explain it that way Brian Cashman and you start to look at bodies who the Yankees have won despite being hurt right.

"Clubs with a single win on the season. Brewers are already three games in front of the cubs who have much more urgency socks are still developmental mode. They'll open their home scheduled tomorrow, weather permitting. We'll be on the road at buffalo wings and rings on south host that Hari PB. I'm doing great cap. The cubs have the right guy on the bump this evening. John Lester, the only quality start thus far for the cubs. And after a day off of reflection. It's time to stop the bleeding, and and get things turned around get this thing. Right. They've had good offense. Other than the Monday night game in Atlanta. Twenty eight runs in three days. Look, here's where I want to start with you. Joe Madden when he was hired by THEO. And they had a sitting manager they paid him to go away. And they went down to Joe Madden. And they showed up and met his RV down on a beach with a bottle of wine and said, hey, we want you to come here and take this team over and he did a magnificent job. And at four years. He's never missed the playoffs in four years. He's averaging about ninety seven wins. He won a World Series. And now this year. It's yeah. We don't need to have petting zoos and all that other stuff. We need more structure, we need structured lineups. We know the series in advance. And we need to know we're having batting practice four out of five day. Okay. Here's my question to you there. One in three it's early man. There's one hundred fifty eight of these to go, and they could go on a winning streak starting today, and it's all in the past. But if they struggle, and he is not under contract beyond this year. How long does it go where it's becoming a daily soap opera is it two weeks or three back already? Is it six weeks is if the all-star break isn't Memorial Day, and at what point does Joe Madden go, you know, what guys I got here for a reason you hired me for a reason. Guess what Simon the magicians performing on Tuesday? I got zoo animals on Friday, I'm doing it my way if I'm going down. I'm going down my way, not your way. Hold on a minute here on the zoo animals and the magician. They he got away from that last year they bear he. Yeah. I'm not saying that is not him being him. Yes. Look he got neutered over the season. And they laid the law down. Yup. A grand. They said you're going to get out there spent a little less time with the press, you're going to be a teaching managers. That's a teaching coach, which that's the way you came up through the ranks. And he did that in spring training. Worked on situational hitting a lot with his team. And so far so good on the offensive side. I mean, obviously Monday against it land as the outlier, but you can't argue with the first three days in Texas. So the problem is the bullpen right now, which we knew going in and how long are you willing to be patient while they sort things out? That's really what it comes down to I refuse to ride the maddened firing roller coaster every day. I just I'm not I'm not going to be that guy either. I will go maybe every couple of weeks and take a step back and say, all right? Let's take we've we've had twelve games here. This is where we can make a somewhat decent assessment of where this team is that. I I don't want to ride that roller coaster either. And I it's four days. Just my question to you is at what point? Does it become this is the big boy media here? This is not Tampa where they got to writers and one radio guy. This is fifty media people every day, it's columns in the Tribune columns in the sun times columns in the daily herald columns on the athletic, Jesse Rogers ESPN, you got multiple sports radio stations. You gotta sports TV network a second one that they're starting. That's common. There's a lot of scrutiny, and it's the cups at what point does it become. Oh god. Here we go every day. Is that a month? When is it and the blame on Joe and Joe's a scapegoat is that where you're going with that? Or I mean. If it's may first and their seven games behind the brewers. Yeah. There's gonna be some tension in building there. Three back already and they play him this weekend. In milwaukee. Ken Rosenthal writes today, and I printed off the article he said, he's got a lot of good stuff. Danny here in our packet Ronald kunas deal the White Sox prospect as I'm going through this. There is an article from Ken Rosenthal. Who's as respected as they come in the game? He is a great national baseball writer six managers on the hot seat this season. Number four is Joseph Madden. Chicago Cubs cap. We knew going in when he didn't get the extension. The the flame was turned off. I mean that was a decision that theon jet made when THEO announced to the press corps during the meetings that we're not giving him an extension. We're not engaging in conversation with his agent. We knew right, then and. There. So that that was already in motion. I don't see how you can blame. The bullpen issues on John Joe unless that you know that they've set up a game plan and said we want to use this pitcher here in the seventh. This pitcher in the eighth this pitcher against lefties here, and he goes against the grain. I mean that that's the only way that you could fault Joe for bullpen issues. I just the reason bring it up to you is you, and I not only interact here, we interact over TV. We talk often like all these various things going on. It's sports. One thing we have not talked a lot about is like the daily Madden watcher the daily Fred Hoiberg. What like? I look at Joe Madden. And if they're only one in three is a long way to go. But three four five weeks in your goal. God their eight games behind the brewers writing. What does it become a daily story? Are they going to change managers because that's no fun to go through? They clearly when they went around and talked to the leadership core of this team and interview those guys extensively went to their turf to get their thoughts on where this team is at what needs to be fixed. They heard stuff in those meetings that probably did not paint Joe in the greatest of light. Probably right. They certainly have changed the way they do things. And I think they have adopted a lot of things that came out of those meetings. No drinking on the plane. They want a little more count ability here. I think it's less drinking less drinking. They want to know the lineups before each series begins things like that. And. Joe has acquiesced you you find out before the Atlanta series. You're playing game one two and three or three or what have you correct, which that's a whole nother question. Does. Does the thought of having to predetermine your lineup before every series does that fit the mantra a- playing with a sense of urgency? I think that's contradictory. Right there. If you're playing with a sense of urgency, your valuating everything all the time you're trying to win every single game. You're not trying to appease player. A with a random start in left field against Atlanta. If Kyle Schwartz is raking and playing well, and it's a sense of urgency. I may have had a different idea of how I wanted things to go to start that series was, but I'm going to play the sense of urgency mantra, and I'm putting Schwab route. But does this mean, then if that's how they're doing it and Schwaiger gets four hits on Sunday that he can't walk up to on Monday Joan go. Hey, kid. I know I told you you got tonight. Schwarzer's red hot. I'm stay. It's a legitimate question. And that's something we'd have to ask Jesse or somebody else with those guys every day. Yeah. I want to ask Jesse that question. I want to know from Jesse. If that the answer you're going to hear his yes. But we've already seen. Where that has not been implemented. Correct. Schwaiger had a really good weekend in Texas and didn't start opening day. Right. And I was a bit of I mean that that lucky down. But I understood it to go to sit three seventy five with four bombs. Fifteen knock didn't had a great spring earned his way there if he's not gonna face a fairly soft tossing lefty when is he going to play. Okay. Great. And he he performed well opening day get the game winning hit. But then Schwaiger has a really good weekend. You're one to at that point. I probably would have started him against Sean Newcomb agreed. So that's my question. Three one two three three two three seven. Almost over this cough OMO live five weeks, but who scoring Lewis and Morton grove looking good Louis. What's up? Hey, good morning, gentlemen. How you guys doing? I so question for you. I was just thinking about something. Do you think that in regards with the clubs? Do you think there'd be any chance that? Record reflect on the attention that is going on with Joe and feel like in a way where you feel that Joe feels that the front office and feel and everyone in the front focusing and giving so much time toward the TV broadcasting and every every everything else as far as the business side goals rather than focusing on the team, and and the players so no that no absolutely not the foul offbeat. Just that crane who's president of business operations has made them a ton of money, and he is involved in that the baseball side is totally suffer cap is focused on the TV network. But I will say that the uncertainty of the revenue stream that that network is going to produce has created. I think some uncertainty with playwright payroll flexibility. Right. I think that that's I think you could you could connect those dots with the way things have gone down with. I think they wanted this place months ago, and I think the uncertainty of knowing exactly how much cash and what they're going to be able to to bring in with subscribers is affecting their long term outlook. And and dictating how much they can forecast and put out there in long long-term deals threats. Well, said three one two three three two three seven seven six. Bob's in Warrenville. Bob's next on ESPN one thousand the first midwest Bank studio, Roberto what's up. Orange gentlemen. Good, man. How are you there? There. Nice. No, I'm just calling. About joe. But. Other stuff a steward upper mass. The players you're talking about theon jed. A little bit. I mean, I I know they've done a lot of work for what do you think? Well, look, they have got the ultimate hall pass. They won the World Series. And it hadn't happened here in one hundred and eight years, and that organization has been forever changed not only by winning. But by the type of organization they now run they are as well respected in the game. As anybody appreciate your call. Bob.
Angels consider offering Mike Trout 10-year, $350 million extension

Winners and losers from Manny Machado's megadeal with Padres
"As the Padres get shortstop, Manny Machado, ten years. Three hundred million MLB network, Ken Rosenthal. They're going to accelerate the program obviously had been talking about two thousand twenty or two thousand twenty one is being there year to push forward. Clearly now when you get Machado you have bigger expectations right away. Rosenthal says Machado will be a role model for Latin players. He also reports the Phillies now on the clock to sign Bryce
Ken Rosenthal, Mushtaq And Mike Moussaka discussed on Wisconsin's Afternoon News with John Mercure
"John interesting tidbit earlier today from Ken Rosenthal in the athletic. He wrote in kind of a notebook piece saying quote a reunion between the brewers and free agent third baseman. Mike moussaka seems inevitable unquote. Nothing more than that. But there's a lot of industry speculation. That says Mushtaq is will probably end up back with
Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies agree to $26 million, 1-year deal
"Nolan Arnaldo and the Rockies have settled on a one year contract as what it is usual. When you go into arbitration. Ken Rosenthal reports are not as one year twenty six million dollar deal with the Rockies is a record for player through the arbitration process. If you remember the Rockies came in at twenty four which would have also been a record one year arbitration deal are not a wanted thirty million dollars. They settle on twenty six as what usually happens. You split. The difference in everyone goes home. That's that's significant and. While it sure doesn't seem like the Rockies have any aces up their sleeve in terms of recruiting Bryce Harper or landing, you know, they're still alive. Dallas kaikal hasn't been signed. Like, it doesn't seem like the Rockies are saving their money to go. After one of these marquee free agents that are still on the market. But I wonder what this means for Nolan are nano he said when he asked for thirty million dollars that it was what all athletes eight is business. It is a business. And you just heard Ryan leaf say the NFL is a business, but at the same time Nolan has no no other organization than the Rockies. You would want him. I think to be a little less cold and calculating, maybe that's too pollyannaish for the rock from the Rockies perspective. But is he going to be that rigid with the Rockies when they tried to negotiate a long-term deal during or after this year, the Rockies can't play around with this? I said this the other day. They can't risk losing Nolan for nothing. And for those who think that this thing's going to drag out till the end of September. No, it's not it has to be settled by July thirty one or they have to have a strong indication one way or another because they gotta get something for them. Or it's going to set this franchise back five years, and I'm not being I I'm not trying to be alarmist. And I don't think I'm being over the top. That's how important Nolan are not always you could talk about Trevor story and Charlie Blackmon those guys come and go they go up and down Nolan is the guy. He's the face of the franchise. He's their best player. He's the most steady and efficient. Hitter that they have. To me. They can't they can't hang onto him hoping that a whole year convinces them. They gotta try to convince them and a half a year or else they're going to be in a really tough spot. Well, and I'd say now that they've taken care of the whole arbitration thing and avoided that started now, right? Are working on a long term deal. Now. And look I would like to Rockies I mentioned this earlier in the show. The Padres are going to meet with Bryce Harper. I would love for Jeff rise to do that. To but to me. Jeff bridage. Should sit down right now. And all he should do. It's figuring out how he can convince Nolan are not to stay. Because that is the top priority and say what you will about when the Rockies traded Larry Walker or Baldo Jimenez, or any of these others. This will be the Troy to Lewinsky, even this will be bigger than any of those and more detrimental to the Rockies. If they don't handle this correctly. So I say all the time you have time to do other things, Jeff. But this has got to be your focus when you wake up in the morning. And when you go to bed at night figuring out. How to convince Nolan are Nado to stay in purple

"Here is now one topic and one major league baseball player that we won't have to be talking about for a while Ken Rosenthal with his Twitter, and with the athletic, the Rockies, the rockets are closing in on making Daniel Murphy. A second baseman everything pending offensive goal. So it looks as though Daniel Murphy with the glove and with the left hand bad is on his way to the mile high city of Denver Colorado to play for the rockets to the phones we go and Rory is calling from Pearl River. And Ray you're on the fan was happening. Right. The are you doing coming along? Right. How about treselle I'm doing well. And let me just say you are talk show radio. Loyalty is an absolute pleasure to speak. He lion. Quite humble. Well, obviously you've been drinking again. Now, unfortunately on sitting in traffic on the highway. Makes it much more tolerable. I assure you, well, we all do that at various times during the day on this radio station, whether it's morning mid day afternoon or in the evening, we're glad that you drive with us. Well, I got to somewhat hypothetical questions for you. All right. I wanted on them one is on the Mets one is on the giants on the MAC. You know, I'm a big time met fan, and I'm very excited with proton. So far, I think we are very much improved team. But it feels like every time we do this going years back. We never quite go that extra yard to make us a real force in the National League. And my question is if you take if you switch management and ownership. Let's just say that the Yankees have exact same talent pool at the Mets have right now. And they're running the ship for the off season. What mood you think that they would make the make the better team? And what do you think that would mean for the Mets in terms of where they stack up in the National League? Well, I wouldn't have said those are two good questions Ray. And thanks for the ninth comments and your call and your questions the whole thing because well, first of all Brody, and it's we're all I mean, what's face at the honeymoon is eroding just a little bit. Because I think he would like to do more than the wilpon going to let him do, and that means with the money, and the money is basically not going to get much higher in terms of what the payroll is going to be. And again, I mean Brody wants to be the positive. He sells positive, but can he deliver all of what would make it truly positive for the New York metro mountains? What are they gonna? To get Pollick. Are they gonna get Harper? Are they gonna get Marchetto? I'm just saying already because they would be dancing in the streets. The metropolitan fans would be doing if he were able to go out, and at least try and get those kinds of players, but he is so good at selling selling positive that. We are almost led to believe that he basically traded real Muto to get to get Syndergaard and. Rosarito and Conforto and the bottom line is it's a little bit of sleight of hand buddy is positive. He is out of the box is refreshing. He does want to be positive. He doesn't want to be proactive, but you can only go so far with all of those things because he's guys and got the money that he needs to have to get the kind of players that were truly excite the New York metropolitan fan there a better team right now. But what does that mean at this stage of the off season? Sammy is calling from Howell and Sammy here on the fan. What's going on Sammy? How you doing Steve? It's a pleasure to see. How do you? As a mess. And my question is. Bandwagoning creativity. The Mets looking at it and outfielder the name of. Yes, y'all at the moment. He's twenty seven. Athletic. I stayed in the post-season last two seasons. I think it'd be a better fit than them looking at somebody like politics, I think at the moment he's thirty one hasn't played in forty games last season. Look at somebody. Like, why do we well at the dodgers can't wait to get rid of them? And to me one Cuban defector is enough. But. But the bottom line is why are we talking about when maybe as a metropolitan fan, we should be wishing and hoping and praying that the wilpon would say to Brody band wagon. Let's go for Bryce Harper. He would be the best player out there to get better than Mr. Puig who could be an issue in anyone's clubhouse and has been an issue in the dodgers clubhouse, his hitting and power notwithstanding. Martin is calling from Guilford Martin knows about the dodgers and knows about Moore Shodipo. Well, yeah. Before that tweet. I like him because he's fun. But he is in Europe is an unbelievable would be unbelievably bad fit for it. You can't believe every day of the week every day every month every year, we would be talking one day about Beckham at one day about it'd be like a poor man's Darrell strawberry. But anyway about mush auto. I. Watch them a lot this year. And every time he came up, you know, in the late in which Friday get excited, but he just rarely delivered is his hitting into late innings was about fifty. And if the AKIs would take him, I don't think they're gonna do that stupid. There's only one one person I think of the AK organization that would be really happy, which which would be g n Carlos stand because Machado would take over as opening boy for that organization. It would be I'd be St. we love great fun. But they're not gonna I just can't imagine. I do that. You know? I can. And thank you Martin for the call. And you're right. I think you know, listen between you me and the lamppost my two cents worth. And who knows? They'll probably the Yankees who probably sign Machado and probably need Harper. Maybe a little bit more that left hand Evatt than they do. Listen with the Yankees, you can never have enough right handed Vance in that lineup, and.

"I'm is really just kind of disgraceful what they sort of allowed that guy to do in terms of being a broadcaster there. And there's probably a larger argument even whether that guy should have been hired particularly after his treatment of ESPN staffers. But as Bruce, and I both know short of being J Simpson generally, speaking of broadcast network will hire you BRUCE'S or anything else you want to discuss before we before we jettison before before allow you to start your your day. No that is it again. I I appreciate the opportunity a little bit. And it's I'm glad people have discussions at the same point, you know, because just as somebody who's in the middle of it. You know, I pay attention to it at the same point. It's everything's pretty new on. And I don't think when you're sitting maybe back to your computer. And I knew that. Sometimes to is you tend to think things are black and white in how they thought of or discussed, and they usually aren't. But you just I I guess you're in the middle of it. You just don't really realize how many, you know, not everything is cutting dries much is that sometimes we wanna think it is. And and again, that's that's just kind of a reality. And I think the more time you spend in the business more time. You kinda see it that way and maybe can be frustrating, and it can be. But I just think that's that's kind of the world you end up kind of getting into. Yeah. It's well said, and again, I think it is I I'm very self aware. It is easy for me to say when I'm saying in my position if I was a manager, and nor would I ever be. But if I was management ESPN, I would probably have a different POV. So I sort of certainly understand that, you know, the advantages of sort of not having any kind of finance. On the line not having to deal with these conversations with college administrators or college presidents before I let Brusco I will say this just because I have him here. And it's worth for people listening. This to hear Bruce has been a really huge edition for the athletic. The business is about people coming in and subscribing to the product because they wanna read writers slash writers and stories, and you know. Ken Rosenthal, and Jason stark, and and Katie Strang, and some of the other big names at the ethic has Bruce Feldman was a huge higher for the ethnic because he brought up. We're allowed Christmas puck has your shitload of people under the tent so just on a personal note. I really appreciate that. Because the more people like, Bruce who joined the ethnic of the more, my landlord in Toronto appreciates it. So Bruce, I'm glad I'm glad you're here. That is nice to hear. I thank you for that. You didn't need to say that. But what annually when I tell people I love what I get to do. I really do. And that hasn't changed if anything I love it, even more. So it's been fun, and I'm thankful for the people who subscribe, and in who who want we want more and want more depth, and and who better reading experience 'cause I mean, I don't wanna wake up the house. I don't wanna click on the story where I get auto play. Right. I mean, the fact is it really is. I mean, forget the fact it will work. In there like objectively it is a great site. Again. We will see if it lasts or not, but objectively the content is great and our bosses really give a shit about the user experience. And those are like two things that I cannot tell you how much I appreciate Bruce Feldman is a I don't even know what your title is the athletic senior writer or national college football, calms, whatever I am probably look you say reporter. All right, Bruce, film is a reporter for the Atlantic. He's a sideline reporter, Fox Sports. And he is the co host and co founder of deficiently the audible podcast there. It is the audible I think I should be the founder is actually predated Stu couple. Okay. So you are the founder and founder and co host of the audible check that out on apple podcasts. He reaches that me makes the catch Red Sox have won the American League pennant for the fourteenth time in their history, Andrew Benintendi where the last put up in the Red Sox are going on to the World Series for the first time since two thousand thirteen. They beat the Houston Astros in game five, four to one joke Castiglione with the call locally the Boston Red Sox radio network in now game. One of the World Series set for Tuesday night on FOX in Fenway park. The question is, will the dodgers or the brewers be there that might be decided tonight on FOX on the six game of the NFL c. s. and joining us right now is a hyphen it. If you will. A field reporter for FOX and MLB insider for the MLB network, a senior writer for the athletes, the multi-talented Ken Rosenthal back here on the show. How are you? Can. Dan, how are you? I'm doing fine. So let's start with the Red Sox. What makes them so good in your estimated Ken. Wow, that's a great question because so much about them that I like I would say most of all, it's their physician group and that starts with the three outfielders JD Martinez, but obviously they've got depth across that roster only pitching's in good. The bullpen fortified four by four Selo. They just have a way about them and I don't know that they're the most talented team. I don't know that they were talented Houston in many regards and Houston had on paper bullpen better rotation, but all season long. If one game, they figure out ways to win games. They can do it a lot of different ways. And that to me is kind of what the find some and the birthday boy from last night, Alex Cora, he's he's got the stuff, man. He's just knows what buttons to push gets. He gets the most out of every body. What do you think he brings to the equation that makes him so good as well. Ken. He has way about him that the players respond to. And if you go back to last year, not the bass, John Farrell, but on Farrell was not as loose with the players. He did not give off a relaxed buy at all. Now it's not that core is relaxed. He's very intense competitor, but just has a good way about him. He's on for this players open with them. He was a player himself not long ago. So all of that when combined with his open minded this toward the analytical part of the equation that has become such an integral part of everything now is ability to communicate that the players and has coaching staff communicate that the players that is all part of his leadership to it's just been for him or Markle run here. And yes, they're good team and sure a manager can only do so much the good team, but we have seen over the years, many times. Majer conscripted good team and he's not done that quite the opposite. He's brought more out of this club, and I think most of us start. So coming into this AL CS Ken Rosenthal told you one of these two facts, which would have been the more surprising to you. One is that Jackie Bradley Jr. would be the MVP of the ANC or to David price would win game five to wrap things up after having a solid game to outing. Three, the Red Sox winning five games. Surprising. I don't know. But all surprising, Jackie Bradley Jr. talented guy has not been consistent throughout his career. At times, he is really slumped, and people have said, well, it gives them the defense, and that's why he's out there. But. I, that's your shown. He has a -bility and at times he gets to gets streaky or the times when he's hot, he's a very dynamic ofensive player. David price. I always go by the theory and he tested this theory. Good players eventually find a way to succeed in the postseason and it goes back to bonds goes back even before him on. You remember struggle in the postseason and finally, two thousand two bigoted out. You give it a great player enough chances. They're going to figure it out. But as I said, price did test that. I did not know if it was ever going to end up like last night, and it's so interesting to me at last night..

"You put pressure on the defense or you pop it out to left field four enough, and that was all she wrote not even Craig kimbrel could really put you in heart attack mode. Last night. He did walk one, but the rest of China, smooth sailing, if and then Alex Cora, congratulations to him. He's trying to join Bob Brennan as the Bob Brenly was the last manager to win in his rookie year in in the in the dugout. And I do believe he's trying to become the first Latino born rookie manager to win a World Series period that's never happened before, and he's just pushing every right button man native Aldy. You need floor outs. Bring him in. So he's going to be your game seven starter. He was terrific and gained three. So of all, the comes in gets a winning game three, a monster Holden game five. He brought propor- Selo on and relief in Boston. And then Portillo is your game for winter. I mean, they, they've got a closer who is an absolute holy heck of a mess. They've got an ace who can't stay healthy. They've got. World Series berth they, it's amazing team eight effort, and I would be downright scared if I'm a Los Angeles dodger fan out here. I'll be honest with you. They come out here and I've already heard dodger fans think it's already in the books. The brewers might have something to say about that too. Brewers might be a better matchup for him because of the way that they can pitch. And if the Red Sox are gonna put balls into play, you might as well get him to ground it or were pop it in the air because they're, they've been masters getting you to strike out and the dodgers have been very well obliging them with the exception of game five when they were able to put some form of a stretch together. I mean, with the exception of game one against the bullpen. And the late innings of game five. The brewers have essentially done done their job even though they lost game too. That was a very difficult game to game for the dodgers to stretch out. But the dodgers tried to close it out tonight against your game. Five starter, Wade, Miley back on amount. Interesting, interesting that they turn around their gained five star for game. Six. We'll talk about that with Ken Rosenthal. That's the way we're rolling here at eight, four, four, zero, four, rich number two, Dow Chris. What is our poll question today? What have you conjured up over there? We're looking at another huge weekend of games. What's the marquee game this weekend. We got dodgers brewers game, six tonight, rockets Lakers on Saturday night, Michigan. He played I'm old again I cannot stress? This, enough do I dress very. Cool yes I do but do I have, a. Very youthful face yeah I have a great complexion. I'm, very old thing stroking your own. Ego right those real facts baby DWI attorney. Dot com text line says the left-handed CNN? Perez, is an option the kid. Hits ninety eight and it's three plus pitches, he's? A potential kaikal replacement No no because forest no they yeah he they want, Perez to be a back end bullpen. Guy they don't want him to be a starter okay and I know the answer to. This already and you? Do too but I'm gonna bring it up. Anyway 'cause I. Had multiple multiple people bring. This up this over the weekend about Lance mccullers why won't he close he would be an elite, of elite closer I've said this I know everybody said it he. Doesn't want to, do. What he wants to be a, starting pitcher and but with his stuff he is the perfect like he would be unhittable. In one inning if he's Dow etc it up to like ninety eight. Bring it with the fastball, a bit for one, inning and that this break and. Stuff, good luck hitting a guy with four leap pitches in one inning luck that's the have the command I guess right now but he didn't wanna do it well that's the thing is his value even if he does get a little wild and he has one bad eating. And five. Or six innings his. Value in going those five or six is still more. Even if you went four innings greater than saving him. For that one you're right One. Hundred, percent I agree with, him and he wants to be starting pitcher like you don't do some you don't wanna do is just his stuff is just is the perfect. Kind of stuff that's unhittable, in, the ninth, inning, like, it's, lights out and then on top of that you consider his. Mentality right like he's a gamer he gets. Up. And also his the way he throws his pitches he's max effort, all the time right like when in. Regards to his curveball it's hard. Trying to be trying to look stupid and get on. That on rob Freeman's? Twitter account like he's trying to get on. That because what. He does every pitch so. If you're throwing max effort curve balls five percent of the time like yeah that that would be, a really good closer spot throw a little bit hard he already. Throws hard those, a. Little bit harder because you can, dial it up man that'd be that'd be pretty fun he's casualty throw twenty four straight. Curves to win the pennant my man Lance he casually sits like ninety. Two to ninety six depending, on how much using, it actually fluctuates quite a bit. And, it's smart to do that right because you wanna give it different speeds and different looks well if you're throwing off there's no reason to let loose on a pitch that you're trying to throw away just to get a guy chasing or something you're heading account I think. I've seen Him, running up, to ninety seven nine he can, I, absolutely absolutely he can yeah so for one inning instance I bet he can. Really dial it up hopefully this really is a form strain and not known the closer. And I hope that he does. Come back in September ready to go and hey and then. You get, your. Wish you'd see him as a closer because I'm sure they're not gonna try and return him to a starter, form why would you right so we'll? See he's Pat McClellan I'm Derek Vogel Joe George our. Producer, we are the shifts, talking Astros and all things baseball coming up next stats with Owen Wilson and the Astros first round.

Nine fifteen we turn to Joe Hughes now with sports there are seven new members to the football hall of fame including, former, forty nine ers wide receiver Terrell Owens who skipped the main ceremony in canton Ohio to hold his own ceremony at his mater of university of Tennessee Chattanooga and Owens took the opportunity to explain why it's not because how many times it took me to be. Voted into the hall is, about the mere fact, that the sports writers are not in alignment with the mission and core values of the hall of. Fame these writers disregarded the system. The criteria and bylaws which guys are, inducted and also the true meaning of the hall of fame and what it represents I wanted to take a stand so the. "ken rosenthal" Discussed on Effectively Wild: A FanGraphs Baseball Podcast
"Is it just a matter of having established personal relationships with people or why? Why are these people able to get information before it's official to how does that benefit a team in any way, sit. Good question. I, I mean, in some way in some ways it's it's a, it's a two way relationship in the sense that you can get something out that the team wants to get out. So say a team wants to suggest that this players available or they wanna try to play games and boost a player's value or things along those lines. That's where it becomes a two way relationship. And I think you know someone like Ken Rosenthal has developed all of these relationships throughout baseball. And if a team kinda kinda wants to get their message out, they can talk to can about it. Jon Heyman the same Nightingale, same type thing. So you know, in a normal column, they'll talk to Ken Rosenthal and and kind of get the get the team side of the situation out. And I guess sort of the return of the relationship is that perhaps Ken will get get the dope or get the scoop before everyone else. But in general, I don't. I don't think that there's there's a huge benefit to that type of situation. Some people just like to show that they're smart or that they're important, and that may be why they're able to get the information. You know, there's many, many different angles, but obviously these guys are pros kens about as good as they come in the game when it comes to this stuff. And in a lot of instances, it can be scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, but but not not necessarily in the fairies way, just just kind of a two way relationship get the dope is like the new ads in the jackpot. I'd never heard that. I haven't heard. All right, good. We'll go for it. Much more familiar with that one than I was with us in the, I'd never heard jackpot either. That was pretty amusing. It was. So I am curious about what aspect of your job or jobs you would join the most because you got to do a little bit of everything in your time in front offices you, we're the director baseball perations which for people don't know that can be many different things depending on the team in the front office. And I know you manage the intern program and you did some event, scouting organization in some amateur scouting and oversaw analytics and kind of had your finger in just about every at some point. So what did you feel you were maybe best suited for? I didn't even mention contracts, arbitration. All that. What was your strength if you think that you stood out in one area more than others. And what did you find most fascinating or fulfilling? You know, I think I guess what I would say is, you know, my strength was being able to. To have proficiency, and I think be good at a lot of different things, if that makes sense. So all the things you mentioned I was capable in those areas enabled the do them and versatile. I mean, I don't know, you call me utility player or something. I think I had skills I could do overlap in different areas that maybe other people couldn't do. So if that was the case I was proficient in, I am proficient kind of in both analyzing analytics and scouting. And I think I think that's not necessarily a common thing, you know, I guess too people might say that I don't know to be to be modest about it. I people might say, I'm terrible at both. I don't know, but I was I was, I felt like I was proficient at both and and could kind of walk between worlds per se. For me, the most fun thing is definitely this type of analyzing players and helping the general manager make trades. I mean, the stuff that people really enjoy and say their fantasy team or whatever. That was the most fun for me when it came to the real team. This type situation last year at the trading. Align. It wasn't fun being in a losing situation with the Mets. There's most disappointing season. I'd ever been involved in a last year, but when it came to the trading deadline and preparing helping prepare for trades, analyzing players, looking at the different farm systems, all that stuff for me is the most fun..

"And yes Sports fans in reasonably have that sentiment seeing, as in the last month LeBron James decided to sign with the LA Lakers when many sports ban believed hope wished that LeBron was coming to Philly, to sign with the Sixers, and according to several, sources including Ken Rosenthal FOX it is a pay to complete that Manny Machado is going to be dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stay under the luxury, tax if that's the case then they're giving up better prospects in the Phillies would have been able to would have been expected to give up because the Phillies I'm. Sure would have taken on Oil Machado, salary funding the rest of the year that's not an issue not a problem for them so it'll be very interesting to see what the package actually is and if Yeah And the Phillies will do their. Agent says New York Mets should trade Jacob deGrom if not interested in long-term deal
"The course of the program but don't fret we will be back with you mahayana with wherewithal all week as a matter of fact at one pm eastern for the man the legend himself so we are just kicking the week off on a high note we didn't get into baseball much today but we will fact that they're all star break it's not gonna stop us from talking about it because you gotta love the game it's america's pastime homerun derby tonight tomorrow he got the game over at nationals park one of the big names which is being thrown about out in an ticipant of the july thirty first trade deadline and he's also a guy you'll see on the field that nationals park tomorrow jacob degrom in the new york mets who's had his good season in terms of starting pitching is any in baseball this year is certainly gonna make a good run at the cy young award in the nfl probably has every right to gripe about not getting joe's into start the all star game even though they gave it a max scherzer but he's the hometown guy there in dc but grammas having phenomenal phenomenal season and you know his name has been tied into trade talks as to whether the mets who are looking to probably rebuild to a certain degree again and that's probably one of their more marketable assets that they get a lot in return for and maybe inject some youth and samatha lettuces them into a team which can certainly use it given the injuries in the age and the underperforming that they've had so far this year brodie van wagon who is the asian for jacob degrom spoke to ken rosenthal fox sports and the athletes and had this to say we have discussed jacobs future with the mets at length jacob is expressed interest in exploring a term partnership that would keep him in a mets uniform for years to come if the mets don't share the same interest we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now the initia the inertia of current situation could complicate jacobs relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of in decision bottom line is and i don't know if this is necessarily coming from the ground himself this is just agent speak more than anything else and by the way brodie van wagon c n a or ca they have done contracts with the mets brodie van wagon represents yowen assessments so they've been able to broker deals with him in the past and the mets have been a little reluctant to sign jacob degrom he's right about that but jacob degrom is a starting pitcher who is thirty years of age remember because he didn't come up until he was twenty six and even though is extremely talented in one of the best pitchers in the game the mets probably look at it from the standpoint of all right he's arbitration eligible for a couple more years so he's not like he's a free agent at the end of this season is still have under control for two more seasons after this then he becomes a free agent after two thousand twenty mets may figure you know what right now is we're trying to figure out which direction we're going to go as a franchise at least if we have them under our control we'd rather go to arbitration and give them a hefty raise for year as opposed to maybe signed him to a long term contract at the end of the day the mets are not trading jacob degrom okay everything that i've heard and everything that has been told to me is that they have cooled on moving either the grammar noah syndergaard they're shifting their focus maybe down to other pitchers like stephen matt sack wheeler to maybe move on from but the other thing that i counted with is if you also then in your next breath say that you think you can contend again in two thousand and nineteen with some better luck better health than why would you look to trade these guys you should be building around your starting pitching because starting pitching has actually been something that the mets have been pretty good at this year i e except for jason vargas who was a disaster as a free agent signing and still is as apparently no guarantee to get a spot back in.
