I wish you the best of luck Now one more thing really quick before we get to Regina. I didn't see anything from the Tucson of commerce or the Oral Valley Chamber comes anybody for many Chamber of Commerce it saying anything negative about pima county trying to make it tough for businesses to open. What is the point of having these chambers of Commerce? They are such a flip in waste. It's ridiculous so dumb. So Regina in her Brilliant ways was a salary. Rai a Friday and Friday night Friday night may fifteenth sends out a text because she put out. I put out a statement again. You have Tucson businesses struggling to stay open. What does the Mayor Tucson do? But at a tweet of a statement I strongly encourage our Arizona Congressional delegation to swiftly passed the Heroes Act Ryan. I should ask you. Is there in the break? Do you have the Sabbath Regina when she was talking as a councilman and she was talking about the sanctuary city. Ballot measure and. She said she was torn because she had family members that edify hit effects. I mean she wanted to do it. She really wanted to do it if you're not sure don't worry about will play later. But she really wanted to pass it but she didn't WANNA lose one hundred forty million dollars to someone lost one hundred forty million bucks in federal and state funding. But she wanted to Pass this Heroes Act. Our community is in dire need during these difficult times. The time to act is now. Do you know what was in this Heroes Act by the way besides a bailout to illegal aliens and it was. It was a big bailout. I mean they they got. Why should we pay them are cash and the way they got around is that they said anybody with a tax? Id Number could get twelve hundred bucks. Excuse me three trillion dollars it. It passed late Friday and within minutes she tweets this. She didn't read anything. This is how honestly that should disqualify from ever holding public Pu- public office again. 'cause he's pushing to spend three trillion dollars without ever building with a reading any of this. What are we going? GonNa do as May reduce on does she. Does she know how to read. Can she comprehend? Didn't go through any congressional committee. It was just pushed on through and they were Democrats. That voted against it by the way. What's inside it? What's in what we'll get to her? Just a second. Besides that it pushed for the mail in voting scheme. No idea required. You WanNa talk about a fraud again. Listen if the Democrats were so confident in their in their ideas why do they have to try to cheat to win by doing the mail in voting right? I do have that you have that from Regina play that let's see what it sounds like for the last twenty years of my life. I have fought for immigrant rights and human rights and so this is very personal to me because we have family members that are on. It's been very to take position against this initiative. What we really doing whether the initiative passes or not we must fight the state legislature and have them repeal as be ten seventy. See a mayor who is governing. If you WANNA call that with the idea of protecting illegal aliens so. She's pushing for a ballots. Her family members can get twelve hundred bucks Ken Coochie Nellie done on the show. How come they know where they are to dump my tax dollars on them. You know. Here's the thing and I love that. I love that train of thought. Here's the thing not everybody. That has a tax. Id is here illegally. Some people are not citizens they don't get social security numbers they could be on. V says they could be legal aliens whatever it might be and they get tax. Id numbers to make sure they can pay taxes when they work. Not just four eagles. But there is no way to differentiate who's illegal and who's not illegal. That's the problem. All right thank you I I I got a brother and I know I know man. It's it's frustrating as hell. It's frustrating and so I get it but that's the I just wanted to point out. That's what Pelosi wants to do. And that's what Regina because that's where her family is. We have a mayor in Tucson that is trying to make sure her family members that are here illegally get payouts from the federal government. You'RE A business year potholes my family. "This is all things considered from NPR news. I'm Mary Louise Kelley and Audie Cornish. So just what was on that? Piece of paper. President Trump was waving around yesterday afternoon at in here is everything you want to talk about done. Stunning Nexico says it isn't a secret immigration deal with the United States at the same time. Mexico's foreign minister says the country is deploying national guard troops starting today that both sides have agreed to a forty five day time line to review, whether Mexico's increase in force -ment efforts are effective, and that Mexico has created a working group with Central American nations to work together to stem the tide of migrants. North reporter James Frederick is at Mexico southern border with Guatemala, and James. I can you shed light on, whether there are details to this agreement between the US, and Mexico that have yet to be revealed as President Trump is implied, the Mexican government says. No, they continue to say that. Everything that was agreed between the US and Mexico is on the table is out there in public. You know, they're not going as far as saying that President Trump is lying or exaggerating or anything, but earned stead they're trying to be very open and communicate details of what their plans are. So they've been up front about exactly how they plan to deploy more forces to stem flow of migrants to attend more asylum seekers, so that people stay here in Mexico. So they say there's no secret agreement, and in these forty five days, they're going to work and show, the US that they can make the progress that they need to, as we mentioned Mexico's foreign minister, was speaking today about all of this, he says that Mexico will consider the US demand that it become a so called safe third country should enforcement efforts fail. Can you tell us more about what he had to say on that subject? So safe third country. Basically means that if you flee your. Country looking for safety somewhere else. You have to stop any first safe country, you get to Mexico agrees to this with the US that would make Mexico this safe country for people to stop in, and it would stop people from being able to request asylum in the US Mexico has resisted this idea for longtime, because we can only imagine how many thousands of thousands of people that would leave stuck in Mexico. But it, it seems like this is the first time they're considering it, which is quite a big deal. Mexico's also talked about kind of a regional asylum plan sharing responsibility with Central American countries. But, but in the context of this, you know, it's very clear that, where the Mexican government is right now. It would be totally unprepared to deal with thousands and thousands more asylum-seekers staying here in Mexico. Finally, you've reported to us that Mexico's new national guard is small still getting on its feet, but Mexico says they are deploying those troops to the southern border today. Have you seen any sign of them? I'm here near the southern border and there's still no sign of the national guard, as you say this is a brand new force. They have not been deployed anywhere yet. We're not even sure if people have actually been trained as national guard troops yet. This was created by president Manuel Lopez overlord very recently and so really the question, not only is when they're going to be deployed, how many might be but also have they been trained? Are they going to be this modern professional security force that Mexico's president says they're going to be that's reporter James Frederick? In touch of Mexico. Thank you for your reporting. Thanks audie. All right. Well, reducing the number of migrants coming from Central America is at one of President Trump's top priorities, you wouldn't know it by looking at an org chart of the executor. Branch acting appointees temps are leading nearly all the key agencies responsible for immigration, Senator, dick, Durbin, Illinois, Democrat took note of this fact, at a hearing yesterday. We cannot face this crisis effectively with revolving door policy in the leadership of the department of homeland security, I to bring in Joel rose, who covers immigration for us. He is in the studio now. Hey, Joel, hey, Mary, when I said nearly all the key agencies responsible for immigration are filled by temps right now, tickets through which ones we're talking about. Well, this is the four top posts at the department of homeland security that have to do with immigration, starting with the guy at the very top acting secretary, Kevin michelina, also the Commissioner of customs and border protection is serving in an acting capacity to director of immigration and customs enforcement, also acting three as well as US, citizenship and immigration services for all of them have been appointed since Trump took over. Sorry shook up the department in frustration over what's happening at the borders, and why, why so many acting appointee. Well, President Trump has been pretty open about doing this kind of thing on purpose. I said like acting. His me more flexibility, you understand that. I like acting. So we have a few that are acting. We have a great, great cabinet. This allows the administration to put people into these jobs, who would otherwise have a difficult time getting confirmed by the Senate for the permanent posts. For example, Ken coochie Nellie who was appointed this week to head USCIS. That's the agency that's in charge of green cards and visas, legal immigration. And what is his story? Why would could you Nellie face hard time getting confirmed? Well, Democrats, don't like says about immigration. He's a hard liner, whose expressed support for the president's agenda, including a crackdown on migrants, who are seeking asylum in the US. The coach Nellie has also made some powerful enemies on the Republican side and until just a few days ago. He served as president of a conservative group that funded campaigns against Republican senators, including the majority leader, Mitch McConnell several key Republicans. Right. Who have also all signal now that they would oppose Kuching Nellie, fewer nominated to lead USCIS. So Kuching took over. Monday as acting director, but the White House has not formally nominated him and it's not really clear if they will, what does the law say about this Joel, is it legal to keep people in acting jobs. Create jobs that don't have to get Senate confirmation. So this is a little complicated bear with me if I law cabinet level jobs and hundreds of other positions in the federal government are subject to Senate confirmation. There's also something called the federal they can reform act, which spells out, who can serve as acting director and who can't and for how long several legal scholars say, Kuching doesn't appear to meet any of those requirements. But they say the administration got around the law by creating a brand new job for Kuching alley that made him the next in line to be acting director talked to an Joseph O'Connell at Stanford law school. She says this team's violate the spirit of the law, this does seem to be Enron not just around the Senate confirmation process, where senators said, they don't want to confirm Mr. Cinelli. But it also seems an Enron around the vacancies I should note. There were temporary appointees who headed departments under President Obama, particularly in the second term when he was facing a Republican majority in the Senate. What's different about President Trump is how often he seems to be doing it, and that he's doing it at a time when his own party controls the Senate, and theoretically could confirm. However, they wanted to confirm NPR's Joel rose. Thank you. Welcome..

But Kuching alleys nomination would face opposition in congress even from Republicans who Cinelli runs a conservative group that's funded campaigns against Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and others. "My producers Morgan lashing, James Pearland and our legal correspondent Felix Vega time to do some quick hits on some national news. So we told you last night, about Chris Koba, potentially becoming the immigrations are for the Trump administration and we talked about the list of demands. He had ten things that he wanted in order for him to take the job. I thought that was ridiculous demands were ridiculous. The fact that you would make a list of demands and give that to the president when he's looking you to serve your country was insane. So now we have a little more clarity on the situation. The president's expected to name, Ken coochie Nellie, who you might see if you watch CNN he's an attorney who frequently is on that network to atop immigration. Posts, according to the New York Times, Kootenai Ellie will coordinate the administration's immigration policies, the specifics of the role, including the title and the scope of the duties, still being hashed out Kuching alleys expected to be based at the department of homeland security, not in the White House, which makes more sense since the department of homeland security's handling things along the southern border. And when it comes to immigration and one of the demands that Khobar CAD was that he wanted to be based out of the White House, and he basically wanted to tell the department homeland security, what they should be doing on the issue. He didn't want to be a part of the department Trump's been considering creating an immigration are post for months with coach Nellie, and crisco Bach, as his top choices Kobuk, of course. Former Kansas secretary, stadi- ran for governor and lost co Bach, apparently put off Trump in some of his advisors with that list of ten requirements. He had for the job. Not all that surprising. Now, we had a caller who called up last night. And she thought that it was a smart, negotiating tactic, and that the negotiator and chief president, President Trump would respect that and work with them on the list to come to an agreement. That's not how it played out. I didn't think that was how it was going to play out in actually glad that the president was unhappy with cobalt for making these ridiculous demands including access to a government jet twenty four hours a day, weekends off with his family and Kansas a promise to be nominated for DHS secretary by November if he wanted it. Yeah. And, you know, he wanted the highest paying possible position within the White House. He wanted basically veto power over cabinet secretaries. He wanted to be able to tell them what to do when it came to immigration. It was insane. Nuts. Let's hope what it really was. It was a writer. It was it was a writer like what you would see celebrities give out when they do performance. Right. That's what it was like the green Eminem's. Yeah. He was acting like the Mariah Carey of political figures. It was very swamped like which made no sense, because this is supposed to be an, an administration, draining the swamp. So why would you wanna swamp creature to be part of it? So the president is advisors. Not happy with the list of requirements the list of demands, and it looks like, oh box not gonna wind up getting the job this I find fascinating. The department of homeland security is considering using three million dollars in loose change left in trays at airports to fund border operations. They literally have been collecting the loose change in a lot of times you empty out your pockets for you go through the x-ray machine. And you know if it's couple cents, maybe just don't even bother with it. When you're done you're in a rush. And you just forget it. So you leave loose change behind. Will apparently they've been collecting it and they got like three million dollars. No worth of it and million dollars from loose. Shane. Yes, airports, how great is that when he talked about how many airports are? Yeah. But how I really don't see loose change that often though, but I must have looking. That's what I next ask. Hey can we search underneath your car seat start asking people? Why come check out your counts? Right. Right. I'm surprised though, that there's this fund from loose change in trays that TSA agents did the change their shelves. I had no idea. They were that honest, they turn over the loose chain. Maybe they're watching on this. Not that desperate for random twenty-seven set. See I would like it because the germ part I wouldn't wanna touch. I don't like change the chain three million dollars is part of a plan to fulfill a two hundred thirty two million dollars requests, from the D H S to the TSA to fund border operations. If congress doesn't approve the one point one billion the agency at ask for other components of D, H S, including the FAA have reportedly also been asked to provide some of their overall budget to contribute to the one point one, billion dollar goal. President Trump earlier this month. Ask congress for four and a half billion to address the spike in migrants crossing into the US including the one point one billion for border operations. I like this idea much more than I like the national emergency declaration idea, which I had constitutional problems with I have no problem with them. If they're going to go through the process of collecting all the work. Yeah. All the loose change left in trays at airports, feel free to use it on the border. I that's that's great. Go for it right? I have no issue with that. My question is like, do they have a giant piggybanks? I'd like to know and then you have to empty the piggy Bank, and then roll all the pennies giant jar, what are they going to do? They're going to take this to a Bank and dump it on the counter, and say Clinton star at the grocery. We'd like our three million dollars. You think? See, they wouldn't do actually I could see the government doing this, and it would be a horrible idea. Because if you if they did the coin star thing, twinstar takes a percentage, right? You can get a gift card. Yeah. So or are that inefficient that is collect all the pennies and send him to Washington, like once a month, right? Right giant bins. They did the coincide, they probably get what like two point five billion. Yeah. They lose about five hundred thousand in the process. That was just a sterile that there that they on to that level. They seem a little desperate for some funding along the border. But I look creat- creative idea. A plus for creativity. Right. And if one member of congress comes out against this I'm coming out against them. Because if you go through these lengths to collect funding to pay for certain border operations, you deserve to, to do it, and was their official TSA memo that went out to all the airport saying, like ok guys really step it up. And look for that loose change every night. I clean the airport. I tell you what if you get patted down by the TSA you better, check your wallet, when it's done. You better make sure because I could see them going for they're gonna forget the loose change left and trays. They're gonna want bills soon. They've got an idea on their hands here to make sure you check that wallet after you get patted down. Funny. That is so great. I want to get to this subpoena fight. Here's everything you need to know about the battles going on. So, yeah, the former White House counsel Don, Mcgann who was issued a subpoena to appear before congress today he didn't show up me defied the subpoena. This is the whole situation in, like three sentences Democrats in congress or issuing lots of subpoenas. The president's having those who received them ignore. The subpoenas core fights will continue over whether or not congress can be ignored. I turn to you, our legal correspondent on the show. Is that basically what's happening? That's pretty much it in a nutshell on you. Don't need the twenty four seven cable news coverage of all of this. I just explained it to you in three sentences. Exactly what's happening. And we saw the first example that last night with the court orders saying that the subpoena for the financial documents. Yup. Was appropriate. Right. So there's lots of subpoenas flying around in. We why think any reasonable person that covers the stuff knows this was going to end up in the court, and it's not going to be resolved. No quick, take awhile. Some of the issues seemed to be moving through the courts. Yeah. This was this judge put this one like he wanted to expedited. Yeah, you say no, we're going straight to a hearing display, it all out for me, and let me decide for those who aren't familiar with how all of this works explain to them, what the hell of subpoenas, basically, it's a request for either documents information and depending on the agency that has the power to do it. So for exam. Simple as a state attorney. We have the POWs was the state attorney. We have the power to issue investigative subpoenas subpoenas for witnesses who had to go through the clerk's office. So congress has their own guidelines about issuing requests and subpoena. So it's a formal legal document that if you don't respond to it. You can be held in contempt of congress. Contempt of court, there's consequences quences are varied based on the agency and they're not too tough. When it comes to congress, at least know because we're talking about fines, and ninety s in secret jail that doesn't even exist in the capital, for God's sakes. Right. Right. So there you have it. That's what's going on with the subpoenas. See we covered that. Yeah, it was great. And really quickly. Meanwhile, the cable news networks have talk about it for the next like five hours. Finally wanna talk about some politicians come into the state of Florida. Some candidates for president in two thousand twenty Joe Biden heading to Lake Mary today for a fundraiser with attorney John Morgan. He was in south Florida yesterday, abidance expecting about four hundred people for the fundraiser, which. Going to be held at the home of John Morgan tickets start at a thousand dollars. And go is highest twenty five thousand dollars, so what? Yeah. I mean, what about not taking gonna cost our donate a bit. Right. You're not going to be able to just round up. Some loose change in a airport trae or under your couch cushions, go to this answer. They got three million. Yes. Yes, nine have to go to a couple of years. One of the guests is going to be this fundraiser for Joe Biden. His former Senator Bill Nelson, so he'll be attending Morgan also previously hosted a fundraiser for Biden Neta hotel. So Jon Morgan firmly behind Joe Biden. It sounds like mayor Pete. I thought you sit for a second Morgan hosted no. Would you like? Morgan here. I'll tell you what Tampa Bay Morgan did not host..

But I wanted to and I know how much Colin Powell he. Yes, he was a great story. They. So we're gonna talk Super Bowl with alleged water wolf on the show as well. But going back to the governor of Virginia. The people are more upset about this guy posing with the with the picture somebody dresses as claimed Ku Klux Klan in black face. This is reprehensible, and this alone is enough for the governor to go. You know, what this was in my yearbook. And I was it me. Was it not me? He doesn't know step down governor north on. That's the only thing you could do. But to a lot of us. The fact that this guy was a proponent to kill babies after they were born. I don't know how else to put it in forgive me for being so graphic early in the morning, eighteen minutes after seven o'clock. But that's exactly what the guy did. How is this getting through where we are look where we are? It's like you're lowering babies to be born happens New York. And if Virginia thank God. "Is Ken coochie Nellie, president of the Senate conservatives fund and Santa conservative action. He's also the former attorney general the Commonwealth of Virginia. And I'm Vince Collines, Ken good morning. Great to have you been good to be with you. Thanks for helping us out this morning. What have you been up to lately, you some success during the election? Yes. Senate conservatives fund had our best election year since two thousand ten and we're gonna be talking to Mike Bron later this morning. He is one of our seven supported candidates for of whom one. And the only incumbent we supported with Senator Cruz who is in that monetary. Shootout in Texas. Yes. Marsha Blackburn was another. Who also went and Josh Holly. Also, an attorney general here for a couple more hours. In Missouri beat Claire mccaskill so we had we had a very good year with some very good conservatives winning and as much as we focused and will today on the change in power in the house, the Republican caucus in the house got more conservative and the Republican caucus in the Senate got both bigger and more conservative right for the most part except for yesterday Mitt Romney, right cutting out. What what did you think of that? It was interesting to see the reaction when we analyze it. He really tripped over himself. His timing was terrible. It looked incredibly in gracious and for someone who hadn't even been sworn in had been endorsed by the president. And it's not like any of his complaints didn't exist before he sought the president's. It was totally unoriginal. The idea of like, hey, did you know that Donald Trump is wanting and character? What are you? I mean, Reverend Trump. I'm sorry. What was what is the criticism you're making precisely because it's it's as if like is if he would come running into the room with the access Hollywood tape and be like have you seen this? Yes. We voted for him based on that. The we in fact that was the moment rows like I'm voting for that guy. He represents me. No. Of course. People are like, yeah, we get that. But I'll tell you what it tells us what we can expect from Mitt Romney going forward. Yes. So what I say you've run for office. And you've and you've obviously been around a lot of guys who have run for office. What motivates a guy like Romney like what what is the point that whose interest is he serving precise Romney's and how how does that help him? Well, I don't think this one will. I think he thought it would he was staking out the Bob corker Jeff flake, John McCain territory of I'm the honest broker in this party. And and like, you said Vince isn't like Republican voters didn't know what they were getting with Donald Trump part of the reason they voted for him was because he is such a Smith smashmouth. I don't care what anybody says her which is why which is why so dumb. It's like was it. Meaning meaning president. Vulgarity is a feature not a bug. It's one of the things that like with the pack. Know, it's it's the intention people constantly. This is one of my beefs with especially the never Trump Republicans set and the way this works is they come into like his character deficiencies. He's not the ideal president, and they make all these these allegations about him. And I think what they miss is that President Trump as a president the guy who was elected was elected. Not just it's not just about him. It was a message that it was being. So by electing him at all well, and it was like, basically, I'm so unhappy with Washington, I'm so I'm going to deploy the MOAB I'm gonna send Donald Trump habit. This I'm going to send Donald flip and Trump to Washington. And now you deal with that DC and every just Obama. I mean, they were mad in this is what that set in particular. I don't think gets Vince is that this was giving them the bird. They were mad at the Republican ship in the house and the Senate, and let's. Not forget it's still there in the Senate. And and the house leadership election changed nothing in the house leadership there just in the minority now, and they aren't going to be very relevant, but what the pattern of behavior among Republicans. Again, forget President Obama that led up to the two thousand sixteen election was an enormous part of why Donald Trump was able to break out of a high quality field of seventeen candidates the way he did. And look the electorate, and they Republican base. Now, I can tell you are very results oriented everybody knows they didn't elect a pastor. They elected a president. And they almost see people like Mitt Romney coming along and saying the things he says is validating that bingo. Meaning every time they hear Romney doesn't get it. Every time they hear the squeaky whining of the establishment of Washington. It's a ratification of the decision to send Trump in the first place. Yes that that's like you're so angry at Washington you sent Donald Trump. That's a you. Don't send Trump unless you're sending a message. No. Yeah. You know, MOAB you don't you don't use the MOAB to hint now. No, it's it's a heavy gesture. So so I want to go back to your job here. The the Senate conservatives fund and started the tough work that you guys did in these Senate races to try and get Republicans elected. Explain sort of breaking all the way down to how what is the Senate conservatives funding exactly when when you hear an organization called the Senate conservatives anything, it's just like, you know, the senatorial campaign committee. There's this is unique set for the conservative part. Right. Right. Well, it was founded ten years ago by then Senator Jim demint. That's right. Who was the guy who led the way not alone? But led the way to get rid of earmarks. And and try to change the way Washington Dement was unhappy with very unhealthy vailable fundraising opportunities to actually get conservative senators. Let's right in in the in the in the story in our history is the Marco Rubio race in two thousand ten. Yeah. I always want to say Chris Christie, but it wasn't Christie was Charlie Crist was the establishment Republican candidate choice in that Senate race, and and Jim said in one of their gatherings. Well, what about this Marco Rubio guy, and there was literally laughing in the room? Well, they laugh and now, and it's Senator Rubio and Charlie Crist has switched parties and become more honest. He's a democrat now, and it was exactly that kind of mentality on the part of the establishment that led Jim to start the Senate conservatives fund because he knew there were a whole lot of regular Americans who shared the same worldview who were very frustrated that they couldn't achieve anything in the US Senate, and he helped ban them together on a donor basis. People giving five ten twenty one hundred bucks and more. But our average donations right around fifty dollars. And we are. Hard donors to these candidates and in two thousand ten they elected five conservatives, including people like Mike Lee, who defeated incumbent rand Paul who Mitch McConnell didn't want their and so forth, and that was our best election year until two thousand eighteen where we got four great wins, including three brand new spanking new conservative real conservative, senators, one of whom will be speaking with later. This morning's Mike baron. That's at eight fifteen more coming up with Ken could now he's with us all morning, talking Washington, politics, and a whole lot more. Thank you, Ken. We'll get into in a second. But I could people to work five fifteen.
