"Play. That feels strongly about it. Why question and then that. I'm very appreciative of those efforts. But you know it's not surprising you know i think. Cincinnati has as good a fan in the national football league as anybody and you know. I remember the days going back to to riverfront stadium and the crowd we had and the enthusiasm and you know and and we were as good as anybody in the national football league You know unfortunately we have to have a dynasty in our division with the pittsburgh steelers. But i think if you look back at the years i was starting quarterback. We had by far the best record against the steelers of anybody in the national football league in oakland with another superior team we got beat by three points in a playoff game and seventy three. We got beat by miami in a playoff game. And there's only my third year in the league. I may not have been ready for the big stage at that moment. You know. I look back at the history of the bengals and and again i. I think that's one of the things that i'm proud of that. We go back. And and lately. I think in the national media Cincinnati does not get the recognition that we deserve. But we've got a rich history of winning a rich history of playing great football and sometimes people forget that when the night you you get. Inducted september thirtieth. They're also going to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the nineteen eighty-one. Afc champions and there are so many for whom you say all right the eighty one afc champions. Maybe the super bowl itself comes to mind for most folks. It's the freezer bowl that comes to mind outside of those two when when you think of that season what's the the maybe the third thing that pops into your head after beating san diego and frigid conditions and playing the san francisco. Forty niners while you know. I think the first playoff game against buffalo and you talk about a well played game by both teams that we want you know was the twenty eight twenty one but you know when i think about those days i think about the team. We had the players. We had how good they were the players that we had how civically conscious they were. What a difference they made in the community and they were just a bunch of class guys. And i think that had a lot to do with the way. We want now in the last couple of weeks. As i've been following this and hoping i would get a chance to talk to you. We're we're selling beer now. Were coffee as well. The foundation is going strong Take me in the audience through some of these endeavors. Well we just opened up out of plainfield road in silverton be just brew copy shop. Yes in the building that the kanana's alliance has We're employing fourteen adults with disabilities. So that was really exciting that we're doing that where we're giving a chance for these adults. Earn have real jobs with real wages to become as independent as they can. Also you know. I've been talking with sixteen lots of brewery a little microbrewery out of mason and they wanted to To grew a beer for me and the foundations And give a percentage of the proceeds which will be a substantial amount. I stopped dell is the the name of One of the parties out there and said you know. I have trouble going to microbreweries. You know. I don't like i t as i don't like a heavier beer. I don't like the beers with an aftertaste goes. Oh yeah i know you like keystone mike. So we we might fear that's That's low i. It's like you can drink a lot of it. It's low in alcohol content so you can drink a lot of it. And they brought out the test batch out to the the grand opening of just brew and i think it was a hit. So we're getting ready for that in fact mo- as i remember. Yes you wanna wanna the contest that we bear with me at the holy grail of before one of the games so I'm gonna be in town for the home opener. september twelfth as well as the september thirtieth game. So i hopefully we can get it into holy grail by that and you can share i. It's funny because i have all sorts of things written down that i want to ask you about. I'm a little short on time but at the very end was when am i getting my beer from you so you just kind of answered it for me and that would be for me a huge honor so i hope we can make that happen along with you had some other contests winters. That would be a huge honor. And i'll certainly lift one to the two again. A very well deserved honor in one that. I'm i'm honored to get a chance to talk with you about. Congratulations this is always so cool to talk to you. Enjoy the rest of your summer. We'll see in a couple of months. Yes september twelve at the banks being you done in mike. I'll be the first one in the door. Don't worry about that. Thank you can well here. You go ken. Anderson and ken riley just class just an absolute class act and You know it's some of the the easiest shows you could do. Certainly here is on a on a random day. Pull out you know. Ken anderson should be in the hall of fame and it gets talked about so much and it gets talked about so much and it gets talked about so much. And you're not gonna find much descent to that in this town for for obvious reasons but when you do an objective look at the numbers and you do an objective. Look at how he how he compared to other quarterbacks of his era i think he has more than the case. I think you should be in. And i would say the exact same thing about ken riley..

"And our next guest A guy that i've had the privilege of talking with many many times But i've always wanted this data. Come as somebody who has long lamented. The fact that the bengals haven't done a ring of honor they have and i've always wanted to talk with ken anderson on the day of his election. That is today. Ken is with us now. Congratulations how are you. I'm doing great how you doing. I'm doing i'm doing well. I gotta think not nearly as well as you knew you were making this right. The bengals are going to have a ring of honor. You kind of went. Yeah i'll i'll be in that inaugural class right. You knew this was coming. You know you never know. I put a long time ago and there are seventeen other great candidates on the ballot. Some of them more current than i am. And you don't know where people's memories go so needless to say. I am so honored and pleased to be the inaugural class. Do do a sort of a dive into that for me. Roll through exactly what. It feels like to get that phone call and the types of emotion that jogs that comes to mind. Well you know. I think number one. Obviously i personally honored. But i'm i'm so happy because you know as you know in the national media the the bengals don't get a lot of respect sometimes and when you go back to the sixties seventies eighties. We were as good as any team in the national football league. And certainly i think you know people remember more about the eighty one super bowl team. But you know when i go back to to the seventies and you know the guys played in the sixties and seventies. We have some great players. Obviously you know kenny riley. Being one of them. But you know. I look back. You know myers. And isaac curtis and bob johnson and by trumping gosh essex johnson as good as any running back and we've ever had you know On the team until he hurt his knee in the playoff game against miami in seventy three. You know my roommate for years. Dave laughing tommy casanovas and i think the list goes on and on and you know to think finally we can go back to that era and they recognize me but i hope that. Remember a lot of these guys. Yeah i would. I would agree with that when when when memories come to mind of of your your finest moments your favorite team teammates and just certain milepost of your career. What memories have have come to mind just over the last couple of days since you found out that you're going to get this honour while you know. I think it's you know surprise. You ask that question. Because i just got back into a family reunion up in batavia illinois and my uncle vary whose like my older brother. Nancy moved from chicago to milwaukee and a retirement apartment aunt. Nancy never threw away anything and at a family reunion. They gave me a large box of stuff. And i spent a week going through that. And those not only newspaper articles from the seventies and on you know game programs tickets that kind of stuff. So you know the take that week and got kind of go back and relive those memories and then of course then get the call from mike brown and elizabeth blackburn. That was special. You have played with or played for all three of the other ring of honor inductees. So the paul brown is. It's remarkable to me. This was said by your former teammate. Chris collins worth in the nfl network special. They did on on paul. I don't know five or six years ago that there's the george halas trophy. There's a vince lombardi trophy. There's a lamar hunt trophy. There's nothing in the national football league named after paul brown which is astounding to me. When when you you played and played quarterback for for such a legendary figure. This is such an obvious question. But what was that like while you know you talk about being all someone when we come from the table and all i in august and college and all of a sudden fear sitting at riverfront stadium across paul at his desk and knowing what he meant to the national football league. You know the the great things. He did a cleveland. And you know i. If everybody's honest the way that the national football league at least operates today you know with the packer schedules with You know having an off season. Paul around started all of that. I mean so i mean he is kind of the founder of modern day football and and just to be around him especially i guess my only wish was i wish it would have been around him when he was a little bit earlier when when he may have been more active in the game planning but he's certainly commanded your respect and you know they say the meeting starts at nine. The meeting started when paul walked in the office and he walked into five. Nine in your in your seat. Then you got fined for being late. Ten riley had sixty five interceptions as as an nfl defensive back which is tied for fifth. All-time if i added on top of that total the number of times he picked you off in practice. How many would you have one hundred and sixty five. Kenny was a great player. And i think you know. Kenny was all about teams. And you know. I think if you talked to collins worth if you talk to isaac curtis and you'd be in training camp and christmas told the story before that you know he's a rookie going up against kenny. And then he would run a pass out and kennywood grab on the way back to the huddle and told him what he did. And what kennesaw. They make chris a better player. He would do that to me early in my career he would pick up one in and practice and then come on kenny. Your eyes gave it away or this. Was heavier shoulders the way it was turned. So you know he was all about team and all about winning and he made all of us better players in one thousand nine hundred. Eighty anthony munoz shows up. What do you remember about that. Well you know i. I was over the hill back then. my career was down They drafted my replacement. Seventy nine with the number one tech and all of a sudden you know anthony comes in anchors the left side of the line and we got max and we got flare bush shimmy got lap them and we got bush knocked. We got mike wilson. I became a good player again. Relation to those guys. It's interesting. I've always wanted to ask you this. So if you look anthony. Caught a couple of touchdown passes later in his career his rookie season the had one catch for minus six yards. Do you remember what happened there. I do not. I know he cut a lot more touched up all right. Well i we might have to go dive into the archival game footage and find out why one catch negative six yards something so something must have gone horribly wrong. I've said this to you publicly. I've i've said this to you privately. I long to have you on the air. And i hope to god. This happens where. I have you on the air and we talk about cam. And you're in. You're in the hall of fame. it's it's deserved. It's painfully overdue. And i said this to ken riley sung. We were talking about his hall of fame. Bona fides and i said to him. You know it's gonna make you feel good to hear and sort of grasp this very very grassroots movement. That bengals fans have been involved in to make that happen to to get your dad's strongly considered for the hall of fame. And hopefully one day inducted from from your standpoint it does have to make you feel good that there are so many people who feel so strongly that not only should you have been celebrated by the bengals long ago. Not only should you have been an are one of the first inductees into the bengals ring of honor but but you should have a commensurate celebration in canton. It does have to make you feel good that so many people feel so strongly about it and so many people. Frankly can that even didn't.

"Ken anderson. Sixteen years with the bengals for pro bowls played. The super bowl led the league in passing five times. I believe how is how is he not in the hall of fame other than because he played for the bengals being in the hall of fame includes being one of the greatest players that your position of your generation. Right ken anderson was one of the greatest players at quarterback in his generation. He should be in the hall of fame. Also should be in the hall of fame ken riley sixty five interceptions in his career number five all time in nfl history. The number one interception total for a corner in nfl history at true corner guy the play corners. Oh career how's that guy. Not in the hall of fame makes no sense absolutely no sense for ken riley not to be in the hall of fame but he will be in the bengals ring of honor. And it's cool to see this finally getting off the ground it's long overdue and i still want like give him crap for for taking this long but took you so long. What took you so long. But i won't be. I won't be critical. They've gotten things right this summer. They're aimed in the right direction again. Like i said one of the things that they've definitely got right is the way that they've planned out these announcements on days where they can get their fair share of the media cycle where they can get features on every local. Tv station where they can get time on the radio. Time for us to play. What can anderson had to say about being nominated into the bengals ring of honor. First of all my thanks to the bengals organization for taking a chance on a log. Astana college back in one thousand nine hundred seventy one and giving them a chance to develop. And it's really an exciting day for me to go in with kenny riley. He was my longest tenured teammates. That i ever played with so that that is really exciting and you know. I'm just so grateful that the bengals are doing this ring of honor and you know i think for one of the reasons that kind of remember some of the guys from the past. I think we have a long tradition of success in winning. And cincinnati started back in the seventies certainly going to the playoffs and the third year. Nineteen seventy before. I got there. But seventy three seventy five in those years that we were as good as any team in the football the national football league. Unfortunately the pittsburgh steelers happened to be an our division but i will take satisfaction the fact that we won more games against pittsburgh than any other team during that period of time. But i think you know and again. I go back especially to the guys in the sixties and seventies the bob johnson's and the bob trumpy and the mike reads and tommy casanovas. And the lamar parishes. My gosh is essex. Johnson is gonna running back and we had you know except maybe for that early knee injury and his career and then we can kind of bring back some of those memories and i think sometimes people forget today especially around the country that the bengals have a long and rich winning tradition in the national football league scott. I'm really glad that we can kind of focus on that. And it'll be a fun night. September thirtieth and the thing. I'm most excited about is. We had some success back in those days. And i see a lot of success coming from the bengals in the future there. You go ken anderson talking about his selection to the bengals ring of honor. That's gotta getting getting put up there by the fans get nominated by the fans when i was. Here's what i was worried. I was worried they were going to skew to the more recent stuff. Right chad johnson. Even you know willie boomer guys like that. Those guys are going to get in. So it's not a problem if those guys would've gotten in right away. It just deserved to be munoz kenny anderson. Ken riley in that first group like their names should be up there before anybody else. It's like the cincy three sixty ring of honor here right to of the first three names. Paul brown anthony munoz somehow tony. Pike's name is up on that wall before david west. Rose lavelle. sean. Casey luke keithly ken riley tony pike on the ring of honor before the cincy. Three sixty ring of honor. Before ken riley anderson before kenyon martin an investigation needs to be done question now becomes. Who's next. who's next chad. Johnson's the easy one right. Sorry i hung up myself chad. Johnson's the easy one right. I think i would vote lap. Maybe that's the media guy in me as lap was a very good player for the bengals and then has become well. Dan hoard is the voice of the bengals. Lap has become the voice of the bengals. Right right when you hear labs voice. That's the first thing you think bengals. I think i think that has to be a consideration right. Like he is. An old timer is a guy that had a storied career as a bengal and he's been part of the organization. Most of his life joe nuxhall was revered like that right guy that gave his whole life to the cincinnati. Reds lap has done that with the bengals willy anderson. Definitely be in contention there for the next round. We assume the next round is going to be too. I think that's a safe bet. And i think that's the right way to do it right. You do the two locks which were brown. And muna's paul brown anthony muna's and then two more as like.

That's fantastic, and Gosha heard an interview recently with Bob Trumpy. Talking about Joe Burrow, and he said every game that he can walk up right out of the stadium is a victory. And what do you like most about Joe? Well, you know, I think number one is accuracy. You know, the ball goes where he wants to go, He said tough kid, but I think more than anything is just his leadership capabilities. You know what he's done. And even before the season started with You know a lot of things that were happening the National Football League. He took a leadership role on that team. I think the team respects him, You know, I mean, I go back to his Heisman Trophy speech. When you know he always sudden he's raising money for a food bank in Athens, Ohio, his hometown. And all of sudden and Asian gets behind it. And, you know, they raised $500,000. You know, he knows he has a platform. He uses it wisely. The team respects him. And you know, I go back to an old Paul Brown is, um The game's not too big for him. "Specifically tomorrow in just a second. If my research is correct, your first NFL start was weak for the 71 season against the Dolphins. Does that sound right? Ah! Yes, I think it does. That was after the Green Bay game that Ah, In effect. I missed Saturday's practice those with three going to Green Bay because an Army reserve meeting Wow. And so the team goes to Green Bay. And after my Army reserve meeting, I go to the airport and catch a flight from You know, Cincinnati, Chicago should call them the walking Milwaukee Green Bacon in about one o'clock in the morning and Ah and Bill Walsh, you just have pre game meal inhaler. We put a new play in yesterday for inside the five yard by just in case we need it. And I'm well, I'm not playing virtual the starter and, you know, Sure enough, Virgil's the goes down in the first quarter with a broken collarbone and I'm in and I actually, you know played OK, I think to a touchdown passes. And we're down by three and going into a two minute drill. And so we call our last time out, and we have fourth and one at the two yard line. And of course, you know, we take our time out like over there. What do we call? Of course, is the play that I have never run before we put in the day before And so I, You know, it's a little roll out a little run pass option and And I'd run a lot of college and I get outside the tight end and we'll see a hole and I turn up and Willie would hit me and not only don't score. I don't make the first down and our guards Pat Matsunaga supposed be following in the court of the end zone and touchdown in the peace there, I should be there. You know, he threw his helmet at me my head without a swivel. No. But my first start, you know, did come the next week and and then I played against Cleveland and then I played against the the Raiders out in Los Angeles in Oakland. On ended and got hurt out there but tried to play on and play. I did play the whole game. You know, in Houston with a with a bad hip pointer, but I want a 14 starters for rookie out about why I turned out. All right. You turned out to have a fairly decent career, I'd say Yeah, you know, you know what? Interesting. I think somebody made the comments to me last week that The Bengals may have played the Chargers more than any other team, you know, except for our division opponent about that. Well, you know, so ah, you know that which is Kinda interesting, And I'm not my first against the charges without Ah, was it was in San Diego and Johnny United was the quarterback for the Chargers. That your old man so no, I got it. I got it. I could say I'm serious, Johnny tonight about that. Speaking of Chartres, you you're doing a weekly keystone with Kenny. It's It's on your YouTube channels tomorrow. 5 to 5 30, a former Chargers going to be a guest. Tell us about it. Blacks. They were extending it tomorrow. We're going to go from 5 to 6 because you know it's the opening night of the NFL tonight, And so I'm leading me off is Archie Manning? You know, One of the guys was from my draft class back in 1971. And you know, that was the first year of the quarterback. It was Jim Plunkett. It was Manning. It was Pastorini. Then it was Lyne, Dickie and the third me in the third. Then it was Joe thighs, but not a bad class right there and He'll give us a lot of insight, and then I just thought it's too good to pass up. And and so I sent a text. I had a phone number for her, Dan. And I said, Hey, Dan, this is Kenny Anderson. Is this still your cell phone number? I got a question for you, and he called me back five minutes later. I got a question for you is how you throw the ball when it's 59 below. So, so I thought it's it's appropriate. It's opening night. "It is. Ah, always really, really cool. I would, I would say, I've chatted with Ken Anderson on the air, maybe a dozen or so times about various fundraising efforts for the Ken Anderson Alliance, and so much of that, like, with so many charities in the country, but certainly here in the Tri state have had to be put on hold or altered, and, Ah, Ken Anderson alliances no different, but They've put together some really cool events, including one coming up this Thursday. Happy hour. Ah, virtual Happy hour on YouTube live with various guests and, Ah, one we're gonna have on Thursday is going to be Chris Collinsworth. So this will be a five. It all goes towards raising money for the Ken Anderson Alliance. Which is of course, named after my next guest. The Great the bangle. Great. I should say Can Anderson is with us tonight? How you doing, sir? I am doing great Mo. How are you doing? I am doing well. I think we're gonna have football. We'll see. But in a month we should have Joe Burrows debut. So as for all the negativity that's out there and for all the things that make his pessimistic that has me optimistic and excited. I hope we get to that point. You know, I I'm excited for football, and you know it. And you here today that the power five conferences are talking about postponing it till spring. Um, you know, the NFL are in camps. Now. They're in the conditioning part the meeting part. You could have walked through. Um, you know, they're testing every day. I'm really you know, I haven't heard of any positive tests coming out of this. But I think the real key is when they get to that point that they're going to the 14 pad practices to get ready for a season and you know here, the coach is talking about it. We have no preseason games we're gonna have to tackle in practice. We're gonna have to hit in practice and how we get through those two weeks leading up to a season and Oh, I I miss football and I hope we get to that point. I do, too. Now, let's let's talk about that What they're going to be doing here during August in early September without preseason games, when when you first took an NFL snap in a regular season game by them. In 1971. How many preseason games that you plan? Six way in those days. If you remember we didn't make it up money. Everybody worked in the off season, so we had no offseason program. We had one mini camp in May for three days. So training camps started July 7th. And we weren't training camp for a month. And then we had our scrimmage and then we played six preseason games. So, um, we didn't break camp till September 15th. And the league. We only played 14 games in those days and the lead didn't open told the last Sunday in September, So we have been in training camp for a long time before we played a regular season game. Alright, so lot of preseason. I think everybody would agree in this day and age. Six preseason games is absurd. I think four preseason games is absurd at the same time. If I'm getting a rookie quarterback ready for life in the NFL Week one I'd like for him to have played in some kind of NFL environment. Joe Burrows not gonna have that. So as a coach, if you're Zach Taylor. If you're Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator. How do you help ensure that he has what he needs to be ready to go week one against the Chargers without playing in a preseason game. What you have to structure practices where he's going to, you know, get some full speed live looks obviously. Ah, It's a little bit different went when we had our scrimmages. Why was the rookie quarterbacks We're alive, and we only had two in camp. Virgil Carter and I, um you're not going to hit the quarterback, but they've got tryingto up temple things as much as they can to give him realistic looks at what he's going to face. You've been offensive coordinator in this league, so you've now got a design on offense around. It's the same thing for Jonah Williams, left tackle who didn't play it all last year, didn't play in the preseason, still has yet to go throw fully padded practice. A CZ. You're getting your unit ready first season for a guy that that they're really excited about and really believe in. What do you do Schematically to perhaps ensure that Jonah Williams Week one has success. Well, you know, I think it's all about protections. I think the one game you know, he'll be fine and and and I think it's kind of learning the protections and then always number one draft choice and the chief And I remember one. You know, in my career 1980 I had a number one draft choice to Anthony Munoz. There was a left back when he could handle about anything. And hopefully this guy And handle. You know, most anything but, you know, I think that's what's going to be critical this year. It's not going to be the one in game. You know, we've got a lot of weapons, and I think it's going to be protecting Jo'burg. Yeah, no, I would. I would agree with that wholeheartedly. It's it's got to be it and I I love a CZ much as I love talking about your your playing days. I love talking about coaching. It's it's got to be. You've got to look at it. From this standpoint, I guess if a J Green is healthy if Joe Mixon is healthy If you get the season you're looking for from Tyler Boyd..

"And so you'll find folks who think that these decisions like the one made by the Mac is more about that than health and safety. What would you say to that its not interested at all in going down that road. It has nothing to do with that. It's all health and safety are medical experts really hung up on this decision when we when we listen to them talk, and they said they wouldn't let their kids play contact Sports that pretty much hit home. President into US athletic director. So it was an easy decision. If we start going down the road of no longer being amateur athletics. I'm pretty sure that Miami is not going to want to be a part of that, David, I I know, I know. Times like this are tough. I can't imagine what the last 5.5 months have been like for you. We've obviously got a lot of questions about what's gonna happen in college football. If we're gonna have any college football this year if we should have college football this year. I've got a lot of thoughts on that. We have the Reds coming off a weekend where they win two out of three. But the bullpen continues to be a problem. I've got to, I guess ideas. One is. I think the Reds are going to go ahead and take the other. I hope the Reds do. We'll spend a lot of time on that. In the seven o'clock hour as well, and baseball has got a problem. The Cincinnati Reds are enjoying their first off night of the season. Non rain delay ofthe night of the season. Right now they play the Royals tomorrow night. And the beginning of a three game series against them. They go into this stretch where they play a bunch of games against the Royals pirates who aren't very good. And so maybe the Reds couldn't get closer to 500 Get over 500 a same time. The ST Louis Cardinals, as of today, have played five games. And I'm not gonna play until again until the end of the week. What do we do if let's say the Reds have played 60 games and the ST Louis Cardinals have played 48 or 50? We'll spend some time on that tonight as well. Plus the great Ken Anderson is going to be on this show, and we're going to do a real in depth. Look at the Bangles. "With more guards are here on a and seven sixty KFMB and Ken Anderson along with David Ross and mark may Haiti you know it used to be the rival of bearded iris was the end harbinger of fall bulbs but not anymore you know your genius Zach Gyantse squirrels and they've come in this year there once again beautiful beautiful balls geyser each huge and we're giving in to the the two biggest ones that we got and wanted each store we are giving those away in a contest so all you have to do is pop in the store when you're in the store just fill out your name and contact information and try to guess how old these balls are they're both the same age both from the same crop and both were grown from seed buyer grower so just write it down put it in the can one one entry per person per day and you have the opportunity to win one of these Gino's surgeon in these magnificent bombs that produce of ridiculous flowers by the one that we have actually blown yeah it's starting to fade now but it it looks like it's going to be what four feet tall at least and when the ball came in there was no sign of spike that good at it and so warriors in one day it's been three weeks right is a three or four weeks to the day the so the whole thing has come out during that period and there's hundreds of flowers on it if not thousands if not yeah I didn't take the time to count but if you look at it looks like their style and flowers on it this bold is native to the Mediterranean region and it will naturalized here in our climate with little to no care get it get it started get it established in what was it wasn't right is original reason for for growing that you remember right there was a voice in the rat poison Beth's alive yeah although we got one in the Lazare coffers of done a huge it could have been carved out to baseball sized cavities on each side of the ball are you serious yeah well yeah so it doesn't affect I don't know I don't know whatever whatever whatever chewed those cavities out certainly didn't if it didn't affect that me so maybe that that colony is gone yeah well it could be that could be made if it is it's it must be a slow kill because nature eight on it for a long nose Tong family yeah Hey pops where to go when I try that by we do like I said we do have we do have a contest you can stop any either store guess the age all giving him it's more than one year and you can you can try to win one for yourself if you want to make sure that you get one we do have them available for sale as well since you're going to give him a hint on the on the under you want to get my hands on the over it's going to be less than ninety nine okay okay okay let's do that so are you can stop in and and take a look and if you want one if you want it like I said if you wanna make sure you get when you can pick one up and the the other thing too is it's not only the fountain flower spike that's really nice and they they have beautiful foliage where it's kind of a bluish green color the look and yeah yeah but we're it's a it's a real if you if you have a if you have a dry full sun area of your yard that you want to put something and you don't wanna take a look around with that man that's a that's a perfect plan for it they will they will do they will do very very nicely the next thing that we're expecting in fall bulls and actually we're in the process of getting them ready to go out and right now but they will be out next week are bearded iris yeah so I haven't seen the actual rise on the right I know the rhizomes there I haven't seen them yet they're still box tonight nice size the whole which is is brown on the top but the the rhizomes are very nice size and get a man get implanted in hopefully they'll bloom for spring but if if not then definitely next year and most of the varieties that we have and I think there's link between fifteen and twenty varieties most of them are re bloomers so that you'll get more than one flower on more than one flower cycle each each season yes and then it won't be too long after that that the the paper whites in them to listen and and then the means and enemies and kill us now there's another year they will all start they will also learn common and then you know it's funny guys would think back on on your member home how many tulips fox hill used by every year please add thousands thousands on better we was incredible and and I remember we used to sell we used to sell Ranunculus but a bag of five hundred per color right we we would actually start bands of five hundred and goes down yeah by the by color and we had we had what we ate eight different color something like that I really yeah it was it was ridiculous how much we used to sell involves it's on Ford it's kind of unfortunate they've lost some of the popularity that thing yeah it in its for two reasons why when people don't wanna mess with this tiny little try I think a lot of people just don't see it and don't want to do it but also back in the day nobody was growing them right and now we can get him in six packs and for a the whole thing's a Jane Austen S. has changed yeah can buy them now growing which you never could yeah well you know that in another thing that another thing that you can do with I know I know you can do it with daffodils and if you haven't seen it before if you go up to Joe if you do it to Julia in the spring time there are so many daffodils on the road and it's incredible but we used to there was a time there and I don't know if it was it was the chamber of commerce we were selling bags of king out for daffodils to some organization up and Julian that was planning on all over the area there and we've had some home homeowners to come down and buy bags of them for their property as well I don't know if that's to go out on the streets are just for their own enjoyment I yeah I don't know but man you go up there and then you go up there in the spring time they are everywhere it is it's really amazing and that's we have this one of the things about the young about thinking out for daffodils though those actual don't naturalized very very easily manage and if you bury him a little bit deeper like if you if you have an area where you put that in bedding plants yeah pansy is the one that I can think of off the top of my head if you have a bad we put a lot of hands using you can put the key you can put the king Alfred's in about ten or twelve inches down and then in the spring time the flowers will come up no actually come up through the through whatever bedding plants you have in that area without hurting him in the end there one of them they're one of the first spring flowers that comes up the bridal little start blooming and they are they are really pretty I used to have a bunch of my backyard and when we re put full on everything else and all kind of went by the wayside but they were always the they were always one of the first flowers that would that would come up in the in the spring time they're really pretty very very easy to grow same thing with paper whites zero three zero to sell more that build anything yeah and then the the to the people that the other two that people really like that they just don't they just don't naturalize Waller hi essence and tulips tulips are there those of those the two that just don't they're they're great for their great playing all your annual ball there they are great and high since or one of the ones that you can force indoors you just put it on hi some face and put in a sunny window and that'll bloomin they have a very very nice fragrance to them as well yeah if you wanna give us call one eight hundred seven six zero KFMB is a number that's one eight hundred seven six zero fifty three sixty two still amazes me how many paper once we go through every year ten thousand cases yeah cases and cases and cases of upper arm and yes you for you to grow indoors or out either way does the same people every year but I mean it it's instant grat that is one of the instant gratification bolts because they come to start growing on almost a media correct and they look they look great in some people I mean there's obviously insanely fragrant which is either a good thing yeah that's that's one of those that's one of those flowers those people down there some people love and some people don't it's kind it's kind of like stocks yes some people like the fragrance of stocks and some people down as I yeah yeah yeah I don't it's not that I don't I it's not that I don't like it it's just that I think there's a lot of flowers that smell a lot better what about the paperwhite see like the fragrance of or that it's right up there with stocks I have is that I don't I don't know that I dislike I can't say that I dislike it but I don't know I'm certainly not wild about it I wouldn't grow them for the fragrance let me put it that way I I don't like paperweights what about you market died you know I'm not a big fan what way back when when I started doing both classes I would ask the on the audience attending give do you like the smell or not and most people did not but now doing the same thing a lot more people do and I don't know if the fragrance is different or if were differently yeah I'm sure we're different yeah I know it's getting more to half and half yeah kinda like everything else in the country exactly and I don't know about that see if you wanna give us call one eight hundred seven six zero KFMB is a number that's one eight hundred seven six zero.

I think at four o'clock yesterday, the twenty nineteen Sandia county fair at del mar begin. I think you're correct. Winter. Thank you. I think it's a eighty third year. It's been domer- thirty nine hundred ninety George on that one nineteen thirty six was the was the first year. For a while. It's yes, we just go with that. Yeah. We can do. It's been going for a little while. And it's supposed to be awesome or so. I hear. Yeah, they'll stop it. Pretty green shirts running around. You know, I'm not a big fan. You know, I'm not a big fan of the of the theories is not a big fan. No, I don't. I don't mind the fair at all. I'm just not a big. No Fima team eighty three years this year. I should have just said, yes, you're right. We actually have to exhibit six year to fair wherever regular horticultural exhibit, which we are the we are the longest running exhibited at the fair. I don't think we've missed one since nineteen thirty six I there, there's some questions where the fair ran during the warriors during World War. Two, I don't know that they put the fair on which. Which if that's the case when we would have missed those years, but it wasn't was through no fault of our own. I think even if you back that out and start after the war, it's still quite aware. We're still has the record. It's still quite a run. So we have our horticultural exhibit this year. Which we actually we pulled down the Pollock senior award, which is the best show. So with and I have to admit Calvin from Callan Brier from advanced water skates, who helped us with the who helped us tremendously with the exhibit this year, did an unreal job. And the fact that he'd knocked that out in four days, still blows me away. I would've taken weeks to do to not get it. They're not do that structure everything. The, the water features the structure, the whole thing, I mean it, it turned out turned out, wonderful. Well, if anybody had ever wondered why. Why we have chosen Calvin with advanced water scape to do the Felton's force every year, and the phones anytime we have fountain work at that, that are he, he does it take a look at the display, and you'll see why he does excellent work. And it's not just fountains, he, he put together a whole landscape there. Yeah. Yeah. He really did struck did an entire. Yeah. Did a did a beautiful job and Marian can sell the landscape designer. She did a fantastic job on the on the plan. We don't have to say nice about her because she's out of the country. She doesn't know what we're saying. So but she didn't. She did a really nice job. She just grateful. Yes. She did. She did a beautiful plan explaining everything that that's in the exhibit. We also have another exhibit this year. We were asked we were one of three or four one of three or four people that were asked to do something as far as the history of the, the history of the company and the and the and our history with the dome are fair. So you'll see the reproduction of my grandfather's nineteen twenty eight Ford model. A pickup truck up there in a display, and hopefully, one of these days, they will get the. I think so. Okay. I'll confirm headed there after I leave here. Okay, there's there's two. There's two four by eight panels that will be in the display as well that have photographs of the history, one of them has photographs covering the history of the nursery from the time that my grandfather moved out here in nineteen nineteen twenty to nineteen twenty four I keep forgetting, what year it was to work for his his cousin who owned a nursery up in mission. Hills rose court floral company. They're start their move and covers the history all the way up to Powell. The other panel covers some early history of the dough more fair starting. I think the earliest photo that we have there is from nineteen forty seven. That, you're, my grandfather constructed, a very large waterfall that became a permanent exhibit at the fair for, for a number of years. That was the backdrop for the, the pool the pool. Blue haven name of the pool company, and that was that was there for decades. But it's a the picture that we have is my dad has a seven year old standing on the waterfall after my grandfather, had constructed in nineteen forty seven so Walter, you get down from there, and then also also has a picture, the very nice picture it, which is actually the cover picture for our Facebook page right now. Of done Yego, and Rocco Welsh when I figured that's how you came across that, that can it was putting together the historical, panels, is that. Yeah. There's some wonderful photos in there. If you're a student of history are really think about California, or San Diego, rather. And, and the time's gone by those, those pictures can can bring back some memories for folks. There's and there's, there's a couple from the nineteen eighties when the O'Brien pavilion was opened in nineteen eighty three in the original original concept was that they were gonna move the flower show inside the pavilion. But it turned out that turned out to be impractical for a number of reasons, probably the main one that it's, it's just too dark and, and plants don't do well in the art official light and the over the lack of Sunday. They look good on opening day period and went downhill from there. Plus, I think they also realize that they could get a lot more. Commercial commercial exhibits inside the building. That would do well, so hence the, the flower show was moved out out of the building and just around it now. But we there's a there's a picture of our of our first exhibit in the building when, when the building first opened. It was a rather large fountain. It was right in the middle of the O'Brien pavilion. So anyway, that's a that's going to be in the flower garden show up with fair. If you wanna take a look at that when you go and fair runs through July fourth, I think this is the longest run that they've had of the fair. Because it used to be it used to just be it would start two weeks before the fourth of July and rent through the fourth and. Now, the entire month of June to the fourth of July, and I saw somebody, somebody posted a picture of a ticket on Facebook, the other day. And it was it was from it was a general admission tickets. The del mar fair in nineteen sixty seven I think it was a dollar to get in, and it was June twenty third through July fourth was the run Tom. It's interesting much dollar, then what's it now to fifty if you buy the right package? It's five bucks or there's some there's some I think it's Ralph's that is usually our Sin Song's, but well, somebody's got somebody's gotta ticket deal out there. Keep your eyes open. You can get into take look pretty good. There's some pretty good stuff in the lineup for entertainment at the fair this year as well. I haven't I haven't heard any of the news stations talking about the, the new food offerings at the fair this year, yet because I deep fried. Flood. Darn it it's deep fried. Well, I have no doubt. Again. Don't remember Kramer lay deep fried cream Birla. Yes. And it was delicious. The reporter I saw that it was the best thing she had ever eaten ever and I'm quoting there, I at a loss as to how you would even do that. But with their fingers at an Afghan. No, I wasn't talking about how you would eat it. How you'd make it with with hot grease? You dip it into it. Yeah. That probably has something to do with it. If you wanna give us a call. One eight hundred seven six zero k if NBA number that's winning hundred seven six zero fifty three sixty two. Are you judging the kids this? You know, the radishes. Yeah. No do they still do they still do it, and you managed to get disinvited. No, no. I get invited. Oh, I've been they have much greater turn out for volunteers to help with the judging, that's not as. Much of an issue. That's good. But the nine to they still have the farm in the farms in the infield. That looks great. I have not been over there recently just within the last few weeks to see I was always surprised at how quickly the farm leafed in grew out at the quote, wrong time of the year planting out of season. But the plant's come together really nicely. They grow really well in that little micro-climate I guess inside the race track for context. Explain what, what the judging is for the radishes. What, what, what what's can talking about Ken is talking about a program called plant grow eat that the fair has been doing for as long as I can remember the program when I became involved with it was headed up by Jill Coughlan, who has been spearheading that for I don't know a couple of decades, I guess. Probably, and they take seeds and little pots and soil around to different elements schools around the county, and the kids plant them take care of them, and nurture them until they can bring him into the fair. They get a day at the fairgrounds and they bring them in, and they are judged in awarded ribbons, and then the kids can take their radishes home with them or leave them. Donate them to the fair to be recycled and then go enjoy a day at the fair. It brings agriculture to maybe a group that may not have seen it for a while. Perfect. It's really neat. Yeah. It's a it's a, it's a fun program. If you wanna give us a call one eight hundred seven six zero k f NBA the number that's one eight hundred seven six zero fifty three sixty two. Georgia are win Wednesday wisdom this week. It was easy was toxic plants. Correct. Which is something that people. Daily question pretty frequently at the nursery, mostly when it comes to. Mostly when it comes to pets. Typically house pant plans, I would think at least what I've seen our folks are curious for outdoor plans as well. And there are there are tremendous number of plants that. There are a tremendous number of plants that can be toxic potential to be toxic to junior pets, and, and some things that you don't even think about too much. Before you go specific yes, there's a huge list and just like with people, your pet any pet can have a problem with any plant, and then there are some that are more likely to be problematic and others that are less likely. But just yesterday we had a customer in that wanted to know about a particular plant, and I knew off the top head that one's on the poisonous plant list. And she was totally unconcerned, because she has one at home in her, catty choose on it every day. So yes, it is poisonous. But whether or not there's regular issues is is a whole nother much like say gluten now you guys can eat gluten, I can't. So maybe your cat, your cat might be able to eat different buck in someone else's can't, perhaps my cat can look at a king, and yours cannot go if you want to give us a call winning hundred seven zero k if in B is the number we need to take a quick break. For some.

"Radio in Boston. Last week and intense winter storms swept the mid west. The floods that followed caused at least three deaths thousands of forced evacuations and could cost more than a billion dollars. Nebraska was hit especially hard suffering, major ranching and farming losses. Our governor has called it. The the biggest disaster weather related disaster in Nebraska history and having lived in this state forty two years, I would have to agree. With him Ken Anderson is a reporter and anchor in Lincoln Nebraska for brownfield and agriculture news outlet. You know, no one really predicted. How this would go is pretty unique event. There were some warnings about possible, flooding and farmers that lived right? A long those rivers were moving their livestock to higher ground and doing what they could to prepare for it. But no one in their wildest imagination ever dreamt that it would happen this way where the rivers would. Flood out mile several miles the on the river's just wasn't much preparation that could be done for that, even before this particular weather event farms in the midwest are struggling, and they have been for a while we understand that. There was a twenty percent jump in the number of midwest farms that were filing for bankruptcy. Can you help us put this into context as far as why farms are going bankrupt. The floods won't help. That's for sure for those.
