"Week rod. A mid week of carabao frenzy. And these two were the normally oxymoronic, but not tonight. Welcome all of you. Especially you, Southampton and Nottingham Forest fans. What a night of joy and wonder. Biggest things happened in Southampton. Since Kelly ripa brought a weekend home there. So much to discuss tonight. Not just as what has happened, the past two days, but huge, huge football lies on the horizon, Chelsea, against Fulham, just 24 hours away, Graham Potter, Judgment Day, then a weekend rife with derbies of the most seismic fashion roll on the 189th Manchester Derby vaudeville Sanchez. You know he did. Welcome Manchester City. Bright and early door Saturday. Marcus Rashford. He's on fire. Faces early heartland, a man whose body is made of gold. And Sunday, 1130 a.m. Eastern Time, Tottenham, arsenal, a footballing version, a prince Harry despair. Against Prince William the heir, which will be the only turbo mentioned these two words today. I do hope this is a real free zone, but we're going to talk about all of the football starting with this evening. Live on amp. And yes, we're doing it live. Here on amp, the live audio platform that allows you. And this is what I love about it. You they're fellow football fans. They're GF ops to participate in the actual pod itself. For those of you who are on the amp app tonight, you know the routine request to call in in the chat and we'll move you up onto the stage courtesy of producer JW's. Once you're there, just stay muted until we call on you, then hit that little red microphone on the top right to a mute can be with us. Don't be shy. I'm actually quite introverted in real life, can be with me. And if you're not an amp, do you even James ward prowse download the empath on your phone to ask your question live on the pod, or just click the link that's all over our social via desktop and you can always ask you Alexa. Hey Alexa, play men in pleasers. And while we're live and you can hear us and I want to begin with a toast. By raising my third first brother the day to GFP, Davis letchworth, a recent new GF OP, which really thrills me in every single regard. So many new listeners courtesy of the World Cup. We welcome you all. But I've got to be serious because it has been a dark week for Davis. I say this with a heavy horse, his father passed away a week ago today. Davis wrote a truly beautiful Raven to our email men ablators at Gmail dot com. His words, he said, your shows had provided my fiance and I, with the reprieve of levity, much needed on our drugs back from the hospital and the funeral home, as well as the late night third first buds needed to get through all of this. He said, men in blaze is waiting for me on the morning drive has been a source of joy that's beyond pleasure and I just say we send you our love Davis because the letter went on and on in beautiful ways and I just want to wish you strength you and your fiance I hope your father's memory is a real pillar for you in life when you need it and I should also Davis a relatively new football fan has pledged himself to both Everton and leads so there's that. But I will say imagine him because in this beautiful letter, his PS just an incredible PS after this gorgeous, rich, meaningful, really it's just a conveyor belt of life. Email, he said, can you maybe create the Christian politics testicle award for best shit else player of the week? And I've got to tell you, David, I actually quite love this idea. The pulisic testicle award. Christians down below. Oh, gave us life. We will consider that one. I'm going to run it past producer J dubs and see what we can come up with. But to the football from Christian politics testicle to loft the matters because we pod at the final whistle of today's care about cup quarterfinals. What is a care about him many of you say, essentially, the caramel capital League Cup, it's a third level cup competition, starting way back in 1960 and why this is important context, I think everything we've seen tonight, it was originally created when floodlight to invented to illuminate nighttime football and then popularized English teams wanted midweek football to increase revenue. This is really before European football started the dominate and clutter the midweek fixture list. And the League Cup has really begun the last decade, it seemed like a relic on borrowed time, a bit like a wisdom too for an appendix that humans once needed, but no longer do and future generations of humans eventually will stop having both of those in the same way that will soon be an era in which we're ready in the era, there's two too much football. And I do imagine the League Cup is on borrowed time, but quarterfinal we did tonight. And when you saw the scenes, the Southampton fans, when you saw the knotty and forest fans, when you saw the Newcastle fans yesterday, you get a glimpse into what joy this crazy tournament can bring tonight. We saw Southampton two Manchester City nil Pep Guardiola on the cusp of becoming the most successful manager in the history of police cup, which he's looking to win for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons, but you could tell by the way this game went down. He wasn't really that lost. There was a little frenzy pet that was a little manic pack as things did not go his way further than a much rotated squad. Pet got a pep, not only an off speed Kelvin Phillips in the midfield, but Kyle walker at center back. And that combo meant for the very beginning, city trying to parse it out and build up play with an oddly uncalibrated site. Honestly, a lot of Leon calibrated delight. It was magnificent to witness for haters, city, really for much of the game were worse than really than the new Twitter update. Southampton, very different. They were lights out in that first half capitalized on this opportunity. A fine finish by Mara doubled up by an exquisite long-range chip by gene epo, who were outrageously calculated arc, trajectory, wind speed. It was that far away. Must have done to humiliate backup city goalkeeper, the German Stefano Ortega, Zach, Stephen, would never, actually, of course, he would. If you only watch one goal tonight, make it this one. It really is a stunning arc of poetry clipped beautifully into the city net. And zero shots on target in the first half city, dead battery, even though this is an incredible stat, a real tribute to city, they've only lost one of the last 5 games they played in which a fallen two goals behind, but not in this one, even though pepper leashed all the substitutes at halftime three of them, a kanji and the bruner of the bent soon to be followed by 27 gold monster Harlan and then Rodri, but still city continued to toil, Harlan clipping over at the home crown taunting him with you just a shit Ricky Lambert city did not get a shot on target until the 78th minute. I think they had more foul throughs than shots in that time, particularly happy for the Southampton keeper, bar zunu, great showing for himself against his former club came through the city academy on the road less traveled since then showed bravery composure in key moments towards the end of the game and Southampton in the semifinals of the carabao cup for the first time in 5 years pep was what it was for him. 30 League Cup games, they'd lost just three, three, four this one, add one more to that list. What does it really mean in the scheme of things city fans? Are you really asked? I would love to know I am means very, very, very little, almost nothing. City, honestly, watching them play badly, only just makes you realize how incredible it is, the feet to make a squad and just conjure such consistent purring and stop ability, but it will need everything to Southampton.

"Yeah. Fulham three leads united two. Wow, another tough day out for Leeds. It started hopefully with a Rodrigo Moreno goal, but Fulham responded with three unanswered from mitrovic, Bobby Reid, and Willian respectively. I'd love to see the 65 year old William get on the score sheet in the Premier League again leads have not won in 8 games, roger flames are starting to lick your mate Jesse marsh's tailored denims. The freefall. Against Fulham with their American contingent, Jesse marsh rang in 6 changes in search of what he said was fresh legs, no Tyler Adams had a knock at Leicester, which is please God as Jesse said just an issue for quote a few days, 20 year old Sam Greenwood started as a defensive shield in his place. A converted striker, a tall order to try and fill that role panic levels at among the leads fans who were 11 before kick-off. And perhaps the biggest tactical change of all. This is the week for this conversation. What's going on? Jesse went blue denim, David grace stonewash didn't even make the starting squad. Yeah, was it a dark blue denim? Was it some kind of a Chino? I'm not quite sure. I was more alarmed by the by the bomber jacket, roger, and a bomber jacket, which you'll normally wear with a T-shirt, maybe with a collared shirt if you're a mod, but he went with a Henley underneath the bomber and underneath the Henley a great T-shirt. It was, that was a lot. When your job's on the line, that was a pretty bold choice about it. It's technically incoherent. And it did not go as we hoped and pray leads. Lead to a mithraic and Fulham summer signing Andreas Pereira also showed the kind of quality savvy scouting that Fulham have finally learned that intelligent recruitment is preferable, who would have thought this to put in parts of cash in a garbage can and set it on fire at the final whistle. There was that haunting scene of Jesse marsh, gamely, walking up to the furious leads fans clapping them as they booed him back, a move, some English media interpreted as him saying goodbye. He's expecting to be fired, but I do know Jesse quite well. This was him trying to show his players that he wouldn't hide in the worst of times that he would take responsibility that he would he would go and authentically reconnect to the fans and take responsibility and that moment he really believes that. And he then said, they've got the backing of the board, which he does. They do want this to work. They brief the press. They want to resist making a knee jerk reaction. They are invested in him. They know that they sold the club's gold machine rafinha. They even sold Dan James on the last day of the window. They let the clubs heartbeat Kelvin Phillips, who's played one minute for city since going. They let him leave too, and they have not adequately replaced any of them, left this squad dangerously thin. And a lot of this doesn't feel like Jesse marsh's fault Devo, but in these situations, we've seen this, and we've seen this in so many clubs, but the World Cup coming closer and closer, which is the time to change managers. When the fans do turn against a club and a club is in freefall with the World Cup coming up, it's the manager who goes right. Yeah, and it's also the complication of bielsa who, you know, such a legend amongst those leads fans as well. And look, it's not like the fans didn't embrace Jesse marsh. They definitely did embrace Jesse marsh. And he deserved to be embraced with the performances that leads started with at the beginning of the season. It's just, it's not looking great, defensive. They look way better going forward than they do. Defending the quality of every team in the Premier League, including the newly promoted sides who all seem to be playing with a bit more now this year. It's going to be tough going. I hope the board stick by. I do think he's the right manager for this team for this group of players. But they're going to need reinforcements come January if he's going to hold out till the end of the season. Speaking to journalists who cover leads on the regs, they say they believe he has one more game against Liverpool at the weekend. I feel an agony for Jesse, those two wins to open the season that delirious piece of misdirection. If Jesse's guilty of anything apart from the early antics on the sideline, I think it's of trying to set up his team to play such exhausting, hard charging football in a season when the games come so thick and so fast because of the World Cup break that it's almost self sabotaging with such a tiny squad to do so. And the bright side is women I don't want a tour like this but you know the conversation about who will be available to be the manager of the United States team in the 2026 cycle. That doesn't feel like a bright side right now and godspeed him. The weekend, but for the young U.S. players, this gent with his intelligent leadership, you can make the case. He's exactly the face, the U.S. men's national team needs going forward. We will see. Okay, wolves now last a city for another underperforming team coming to life roger Leicester played some ultra efficient Leicester ball turning four of their 5 shots into goals, the pick of the bunch and absolute howitzer by Yuri tillmans to open the scoring in the 8th minute. And a Jamie Vardy goal for the ages, less because of the actual goal and more because of what he did immediately before and after it, roger. Wolves have just scored 5 in 12 games now. They're like an NFL team with such an impotent offense at a defense is now just exhausted and ground down and shattered as if the carry so much of the mental and physical load there is vulnerable at the back in this one as they were incapable in attack, Yuri Thielen spanking a drone strike of an opener, gifting the second to Harvey Barnes and then the game became just about one Jamie var the first player in Premier League history to score a hundred goals. This is incredible.

"Fans dreams. David, can we all agree? Did we not see with our own eyes? Can we not agree? It was U.S. international Brendan Anthony who scored the winner on his Premier League debut? Yes, in the NBA in college basketball and the WNBA. You credit the nearest offensive player rod when a player puts it into his own bucket. This was, I think, calling that an own goal is positively un American. That was a goal. That was an American goal. That was for Brendan aronson. It came off my shin somewhere in there. He said, peace somewhere in there. This kid and his confidence at camp three 30 tweeted us the first 2024 presidential election debate needs to open and close with the question did Brendan aaronson score in the opener, not content though, just with the two one win, Jesse marsh. What happened at the final whistle David with wolves coach Bruno large that the large bargee? Yeah, it was an interesting one. I mean, we don't know the full details or I certainly don't know the full details. You may have done some deep investigative undercover work to figure it out. It sort of looked to me and we've all seen this done that Jesse marsh in attempting to attempting to quotation marks. Prevent a fight managed to instigate a fight or prolong a fight at the same time. We've all been there. We've all done it. That sort of moment where you try to stop it. Now let's no, no, no, as you push somebody a little bit too hard and you get in the middle of it. It looked like it was a classic fight accelerant when he was acting like he was trying to sort of make it all go away. Jesse marsh said afterwards that it was nothing. It was just nothing. Told the media that he was very displeased with the way Jesse marsh talked to his players, Huang. In particular, but Jesse marsh don't care. He do not care like to believe that my lip reading was right that he lent him to Bruno's here and just whispered you lose. Now you have to call it soccer from here on in and Jessie marsh. By the way, give zero craps about what anybody thinks about him, but I did love watching him march up to the lead's faithful in the Jackie Charlton stand. Orchestrate in their post match joy with armed punches and slightly hilarious finger wiggles. It was like some kind of version of badger state clop, a tradition I would like to see repeat itself, please God over and over this season. A signature win to kick off, let's be clear. Play a challenge in that squad in the post Kelvin Phillips and rafina era that were spells in both halves when the defense was split wide open, chaotically wolves just couldn't take advantage of the situation, other teams will Southampton up next, then Chelsea, let's really start celebrating after that. But David, Lee United States of America against full America in October, I mean, is that not bigger than the Super Bowl. It's definitely the biggest MLS game of all time, right? Yeah, that's pretty big. I would counsel roger, I should say, Jesse marsh, I know he doesn't give a crap, but I would counsel him not to become a lightning rod for opposition managers and fans early in his Premier League career. When he hasn't won a lot yet, he might sort of want to sort of tap down that sort of energy. He's a brilliant manager. He's clearly getting everything out of his place. I don't think it's in his or the American states United's interest at this point. Can you if you can, Jesse tampered up? Well that's exactly what he was trying to do in that fight, rod, he was trying to tamp it up. I will say the fight did make me feel a certain sense of relief that Sean dyche is not the Premier League anymore. He might not live to tell the tale. Rod, you're going to talk more about this game with none other than Tyler Adams, you're taping with him later today for episode four of Tyler Adams wrote to the cut pad by Volkswagen. It drops next Tuesday right here on this very pod feed now to Newcastle two Nottingham Forest nil the tune get their first win of the Premier League season over new boys Nottingham Forest after a scoreless first half, Fabian Cher sent a Swiss thunderbolt into the forest net in the 58th minute and then just 20 minutes later Callum Wilson in a tribute to tune support of Phil Mickelson produced a piece of short game wizardry with a deft flick for the second. They're often running in the northeast slash Middle East Russia. Massive day for both of these clubs, Newcastle, effervescent on the opening day of the first full season under Saudi owners, their fans raising a banner, which proclaimed it's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life for any UFC and we're feeling good. Oh, forest sleeping giant they more back in the big time first time in 23 years after a worse than their first championship season. We'd say emerge from the playoffs and the young manager, bringing sexy back, Steve Cooper. They were gay. They were nervy, their squad filled with new players still a work in progress, but they were organized enough to keep Newcastle at the back, tempting to exert unique competitive advantage with some truly bonkers corner routines where they have no one in the area until the last second and every single player just charges into the box like some kind of NFL onside kick drill. Look at it. It's on our Instagram. It didn't work. Q global laughter, but I'll say the very first time it does for ball may never be the same again. Ultimately, two moments of finishing class the second Callum Wilson finished so tasty, enough to see off forest, give them a lot to think about and the way Alan saint maximum and gema carved up the midfield these two are going to make Newcastle and Saudi Arabia look very, very good this season. Leicester two brantford two the foxes campaign got off to a flying start after Timothy castagna turned in a 33rd minute James Madison corner 12 minutes later, kin and drew spree hall caught hold of a Jamie Vardy layoff and sent a grass trimmer beyond the Brentford goalkeeper, but Leicester is as Leicester does second half lapse, allowed Ivan Toney to pull one back for the bees and it was Josh de Silva's curling effort just before stoppage time, which secured a draw for the bees. The post Casper Schmeichel era begins for broad, whose team played with a clenched fist and a glass duel. I actually believe if one of these two clubs could be pulled into the relegation battle this season, they depleted Leicester with Pereira coolly out for 6 months. He just battled back from one Achilles injury, then went

"To reach agreement with the defending champions leads talisman midfielder Calvin Phillips from the face of the club leads to Rodri apprentice really essentially fernandinho of hair right David 52 million plus add ons. What do you think of it? Yeah, I don't know. You know, it's tough because Calvin Phillips coming back from injury. It's not quite look the same player. I'm in very, I think you played maybe a couple of games for leads or one game for leads, played a couple of very poor games for England. We'll see if he can make that side, and we'll see how he does. It's going to be important for him, especially if he wants to make the England starting 11, or even the squad before Qatar. More than anything, to me, such a huge loss for leads and Jesse marsh, a gent. Who was born and bred in the city. I remember tweeting Devo during the Euros last summer, I tweeted him and Calvin Phillips is playing like a man possessed with the idea of playing his way into a massive move before England crash out. I've been told to F off by countless leads fans who were just sure that this son of the city would never leave them and I guess you can tell yourself he simply going to be the son of another type of city a live golf he kind of city because well city it fills out the buying everyone or swapping RAS and Jay zoos for haland and his enormous enormous wages and Kelvin Phillips proper ball the Kelvin to me who will benefit from peps tutelage and a hope that it will improve England as a knock on effect. But who are leads heavily linked to now as his replacement? Yes, Tyler Adams. My mate. Who has also been linked to Spanish and Portuguese teams, but is now heavily rumored to be reunited with his former Red Bull New York and Leipzig coach Jesse marsh at lead Steve-O. I would love that. I really would at its Josh wolf tweeted us to say Jesse marsh, trying to get as many American regulars on the team so they can have as much time together as possible before the World Cup 2026. What a big braid move. Yeah, I'd love to see Tyler Adams play in the Premier League and particularly at Leeds who, as you've mentioned, the fast becoming America's team over that just would be an excellent excellent training ground for him to play, not too many games before the World Cup and Qatar. At Jack chaz, GF OP came up with this really a slice of genius. He said, legion united? States of America, which is like Olivia Newton-John Travolta. I always love those that will run on. Talking of Americans, my friend Dave Murphy doing business. The CEO of Nottingham Forest from Connecticut splashed out $21 million for 24 year old union Berlin striker, Taiwanese, a club record for the Nigerian international came through at Liverpool and blessed 20 goals in 43 games in Germany last season will become proper proper Premier League at last, dean Henderson, also poised to join from Manchester United as goalkeeping playoff hero Bryce samba remains uncertain to stay. One last piece of transfer news spurs this morning cruelly linked to rich Allison, which I want to be clear. I'm okay with that. Needs and deserves a move to Champions League football, he served us well, but this morning, David, newspaper, also. To also have to Anthony Gordon, that would be crushing. Exactly and I normally try and stay objective on this podcast and just survey the news, but let me just say publicly, as I know Daniel Levy of spurs listens to this podcast, keep your ball bastard hands off my Ginger prince Anthony Gordon or at least wait until after the July 14th show in Washington D.C. because I won't be on the stage with him. But David, we tarry and we Sully, we lull up because in massive massive American news. Gareth Bale to LAFC it should be said. Wow. Whales, golf, in and out burger, MLS. He's not coming to LA to play the fire of the rapid. He's coming to Bel Air country club and lakeside golf club, right? Yeah, Bel Air, lakeside, probably going to play Riviera, maybe a couple of rounds of Brentwood. I think he had membership as part of his contract at Riviera. Yeah, he may end up spending a bit a little bit more time down in Orange County, pelican hill. I could see him playing that, go down to San Diego. Just training lad. What do you make of it? How do you think he'll be? It's a wild wild card, bringing in a gent who played just 5 games for Real Madrid in La Liga last season. He actually played ten games for Wales for whom he was still a game changer slower than our memory, but still able to step up and take over games in minutes. You know, he's lived you taught a lot about Stevie G when he came out and played an MLS that he just felt totally out of sorts living in a different country living in a different culture. Fortunately, Gareth Bale has lived in a different culture. There are golf courses in Los Angeles as if you rightly pointed out. So I think you'll do pretty well. I think for me, the move is definitely a Los Angeles move first and an MLS new technique loves, loves loves, made no secret of his love of California is love of Los Angeles and MLS..

"If you look on this Twitter bio, his bio is just trying to be like my hero Tony hibbert and the final whistle. He paraded around the field. The amazing is he actually bothered to bring this to the game. Like he thought and I love this. This guy thought there's a chance we can do this. I'm packing my Tony hibbert Jersey and he pulled it out, lifted it up like a brings it to every game, rod. He brings it to everything. But he's now going to play goodness in park, and I watched it. I thought, my God, football. The best thing about it and it's at its best is when football makes dreams come true when it was you know it was just magnificent to watch Kane smith's dream come true. My wife, I was watching it with a she just looked at it. I was almost tearing up because it's obviously my dream too. But she just looked up and she goes, who the hell has a replica Everton Jersey with Tony hibbert on the back? Awkward. Yeah, I have 7 of them. Oh, too much. Scintillating next round fixture. Kidderminster. One West Ham two, one of the great performances of this year's competition from the 6th tier kidderminster harriers who led the irons one nil heading into second half entry time when that bully, England international Declan rice what a player last time the equalizer and then after rice basically canceled Santa Claus in the dying embers of extra time with the game looking a certainty for penalties Jared Bowen only went and told us the tooth fairy wasn't real. He stabbed home, a close range winner for David Moyes men, but this game was all about the national league north harriers. Everything that is great about the magic of the FA Cup project. At a mark tweeted us, the magic of the FA Cup is finding out places like kdi mints do exist. If you ever been there, David. You have. Somewhere near Birmingham, I think, in the Worcestershire or around there. Yeah, it's just too. Now the whole world knows where kinnaman says, what did you go to kid amidst the film? I had a girlfriend when I was at Edinburgh who lived in the countryside not far from kind of insta. When he said she had a she lived just outside the Earl of Birmingham or something. Maybe. Something something approaching that. And now the whole world knows where KineMaster is that 6 tier Kidman is the harriers club wonder the lowest ranked team left in the FA Cup. They nickname the carpet men reflection of the days they were sent to the world's carpet industry. You knew that, didn't you, David? No, there wasn't some sort of foreign soldier who came on shore as a zebra and they had to end up rolling it in a carpet and suffered a carpet. It must be a spy. I mean, David, God, I thought you were going to tell me you went to kidnap institute to get carpet and I was going to get the same just genuinely buzzed because the carpet meant they hate this game up before kick off. They called it el massive and 90 minutes in a madness, a three kick swung into the mix, chaos slop, a fleeting hand, perhaps goalkeeper stranded. The ball dropped a penny at the perfect height, and he just slapped it into the back of the net to trigger pandemonium, which contractually had to be described using just the word limbs or caps and penny. Danced away, knowing he'd automatically become part of club history, club folklore, look at where this guy's played bedworth united. This guy is star bridge hinkley. Nothing in town just just the forgotten darkness of football and watching him I was like, my God, the so many pathways to glory. And to be clear, this wasn't a case of kid amidst the Nikki a goal, it West Ham just didn't seem up for it at all. I mean, the field was so compact, so lo fi. I'm sure U.S. soccer watching at home. I'm asking themselves if they could play all their future home qualifiers in kidderminster. And David Moyes just looked on like he'd eaten some bad pie and chips all queasy and shocked. He'd been moist and you can't moist a noiser. He was probably saying to himself, but he was really watching so many of his disappear players. You really know he's going to have to rely on his first 11 to warn thin down the back of this campaign. And I feel his pain, a manager who missed out on target after target during the transfer window. I think there were three club record bid rejected Kelvin Phillips ruthenia as well as Benfica forward Darwin Nunez and just that lack of new arrivals, David, the hammers, so joyous for the first half of the season, suddenly looked so thin. Yeah, I was sort of watching it thinking that these are all players who've worked so hard through their careers to get out of places like kita minster that to be back there was horrific. It was like staring into their own nightmare again. Yeah, and kid amidst the fans spent the majority of the second half Roman thing. The West Ham funds of where they are singing, you can shove your effort bubbles up your ass. Moist just chucked on his starters. He threw one suit check. He threw on rice and crashed well to no evidence affect it initially and David Moyes the look on his face really reminded me of Bobby Robson after England when therely beaten by then surprise package Cameroon and the knockout round of the 1990 World Cup. One of my favorite football cokes all time, a teami didn't scout. And he said, afterwards, we didn't underestimate Cameroon. We just didn't think they'd be that good. And kid amidst the were that good. They were seconds away from becoming the third non league team in the Premier League era to be a top tier club..

"Business Saturday. What are we going to get in the last together and rather Grand Prix? Yep. Children need cars. Let's do it for the children. Oh, Burnley. I've lost just once in their possib Premier League matches, but as soon as talisman striker Maxwell corneil limped off injured in the 32nd minute, you knew their hopes had gone with him. And Newcastle took the lead courtesy of a neck Pope era in judgment failing to claim a ball left Callum Wilson with an opportunity to create his own fine finish and Eddie Howe sorry Saudi Howe went Berserk as well he might at full-time took a lap of celebrate you honor around the field as if they just locked up a Champions League place God bless as opposed to delivering a first win in 15 games. They first league win in a 195 long days. And you can't begrudge. How relief taking a high pressure job and the great scrutiny of false start COVID. Knowing the win came just in a Nick of time, his new castle are off the bottom, hilariously, now just 6 points off of place, but with a tough run away at Leicester, Liverpool, man city, man united, then Everton to just three points there. Wow. Wow. Okay, Aston Villa too Leicester, won a liveable icon, takes on his former colleague and it's the icon who comes out on the losing end of the Rogers mob went ahead in the 14th minute when Harvey Barnes coolly passed one past Emmy Martinez, but a pair of esri concert goals and a late physics defying save from Martinez gives Stephen Gerrard his third win in four games in charge. He's got the Birmingham outfit up to tenth rodge. Do we witness the closest to Premier League may ever get to an old firm clash the last time these two managers Matt Stevie G's rangers topped his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers super hoop Celtic one nil and it proved to be a repeat of the outcome as Leicester did really agree to hits of their 2021 22 season of drop off disappointment couldn't hold onto a fine Harvey binds provided lead, conceded from set pieces, looked over reliant on Jamie Vardy, he was only fit enough here to be substitute and have no gear to step up once their opponent has grabbed control of the game broad is flailing a double from center back esri concert who feasted on his first goals in 30 months, gives Stevie G three wins out of four at Aston Villa davout. I mean, once you make of this, this remarkable start. Yeah, that's the word I used earlier. He's just put a lot of energy into the team. Plus organization. I mean, he's got the defense flying. You know, as mings with a goal, you know, I think last week to this time it was concert with a girl mad cash with a great performance. He sort of rehabilitated Ashley Young Ashley Yang at the back. You know, throughout the entire team, you know, mcginn playing with midnight, so assertive. So bloody assertive. Yeah, an upfront, all of that pace, thought Jacob Ramsey, very unlucky to have a gold disloyal in this one by var didn't understand that decision at all. So yeah, overall, just very impressive. What he's doing. And on the Leicester side, just how they are missing Yuri Tillman's rod. It's unbelievable. When I interviewed Stevie G many, many times, first time I interviewed him, was at Anfield, and I read him a paragraph from his autobiography which he'd written really early in his career and he had this great line about when the opponent has the ball. I just wanted destroy them. It makes me physically sick angry and I read it to him and he didn't even blink. He just said, yeah. And that's how he set his villain now playing. He's clearly, I believe, just given John mcginn first edition of Stevie G's autobiography because that midfield, that's the biggest difference between Stevie G's villa Dean Smith's Aston Villa. Yes, they look a little bit open. At the back of the first half they improve in the second cartel of you while man John mcginn. But they will be salivating at the opportunity to go to Anfield. For Stevie G to be welcomed by the cop, and then soundly thrashed next weekend. Yeah, we will see leads to Brentford too. A cracking game of football at Ellen road and in the 95th minute with the bees leading to one. It was that man, Patrick Bamford, who had come on as a sub to make his first appearance since being injured in mid September, he steered home some box slop. I think it came off his knee to rescue a point for bielsa's boys, Brentford, now in 12th place leads in 16th. Yeah, I mean, amazing. We've talked about leads his injuries been the story of their season. They lost both Liam Cooper and Kelvin Phillips in this one, but my God, Patrick Bamford, scoring off his knee with ailing also just back. God, it was beautiful to see Q sports bra scenes, leads, now face a brutal gauntlet Chelsea city, arsenal Liverpool, they needed that result and an interesting piece of news, which is filtering around the investment arm of the San Francisco forty-niners, has a deal in place to buy lead united for more than $530 million by January 2024, which is amazing Kaepernick to lead David. Southampton won Brighton won a point apiece in this south coast clash. It was the saints who struck first through a silky piece of slough born Albanian skill from Armando broja, but with almost the last kick of the ball Brighton who were down to ten men after Leandro went off injured. They'd already used all their subs. They found a way through via Neil mope he rescued a late draw for the goals for the second time in three days Brighton. In 9th place Southampton.

"Manchester City two Burnley nil Bernardo put pep's mob up one nil in the 12th minute with an emphatic Iberian putback dunk off a Nick Pope saved KDB called game in the 70th minute when he lashed one home Zack Stefan with the clean sheet in the city goal and a great save by the way in a routine three points for the sky blues takes them into third place, two points behind Chelsea and one behind Liverpool. You know, considering Burnley had lost their previous three games at Manchester City by the score of 5 to nil. I think this lost almost felt like a win for the Burnley faithful or progress at least city. It should be said did it to themselves sluggish for much of the game, but able to win with their opponent belly touching a ball KDB finished off the game after the tireless Bernardo slammed home the opener, Bernardo back to peak form after a summer in which he was said to want away another American Zack Stefan kept a clean sheet Edison out because of COVID post international duty. Stefan got the gloves, Stowe pep. Probably should have started Matt Turner. Not much to remember from this performance, postgame pep explained it away. With a straight face saying, it's always a little bit difficult to find a rhythm after the international break and I know just how good burn the R but the story out of the city this week has been raz gate. Raheem Sterling coming back into the Manchester City starting lineup after a week in which he'd spot speculation about his future saying he would be quote open to a move if it meant more playing time. Dave, you know, this incredible city squad, it's hard to keep everyone happy. Israel's plane from the Leroy sane song book or Lake Bernardo Silva. You're expecting to stay and play his way back to elite four. Well, that's interesting, especially with what's going on up at Newcastle and those owners, you know, his last name Sterling could not be more appealing to their new ownership roger. I think that, you know, look, I always think in football possession is 9 tenths of the lord. You know, we saw Harry Kane stay when, you know, it's all intents and purposes. He was gone. Sterling is a player whose fought for his place before, but he's also a player who's made decisive moves and left before. You know, people forget he was at Liverpool, new Premier League fans, maybe that's a shock to them to hear about it. But yeah, he used to play for Liverpool. He was in roger's documentary. By the way, also used to be at Liverpool because there are new fans very confused by this entire story. So yeah, I could see him go. I could see him go. He's still a superb footballer. And if he feels out of favor if he feels he can't play, he's somebody who's going to want to play football. We're going to find out it's a childhood dream of razz is to play a Newcastle alongside Philippe Coutinho, Harry Kane and John Joe shelvey under the management of Bruce arena. I can't wait. No, he's played with Jon Josie before roger has that kind of experience. Aston Villa too, wolves three, a bonkers comeback in the last ten minutes from Bruno liege's mob to claim the Premier League's most nasal Darby after a school is first half the villains went up to nil just after halftime thanks to goals from Danny ings and John mcginn to visitors Claude won back in the 80th minute via Roman sahis Connor Cody, grab the equalizer on 85 minutes in an injury time, Ruben never strove an on target free kick off Matt target and passed a helpless Emmy Martinez to snatch the points at the last wolves when their third in a row, all of those winds coming away from Molyneux as well. Pardons coming on really changed the game for wolves who continue to be a consummate second half team summoning three goals in this one in the last 11 minutes the winner deep into NBC bonus coverage time. You always know contractually something's going to happen. 90 minutes plus 5. Never spanks every kick in off the hapless mat target. I think the hapless is actually given legal that he does have that kind of a face rod doesn't just test the kind of face. That is always going to be hapless. The case to kick me post it. No kind of face bill I mind few players have scored more against the villa, than Matt target of late. What an ecstatic moment. I do mean this seriously. The goal came on a day of Premier League action that began with Liverpool with a move to united. That game against Leicester City and then caught that wolves come back. Just Saturday was really a day of bangers only and so bloody grateful to have been able to live it Southampton one leads united nil Ralph Hampton comes alive, the saints get their first win of the season. Thanks to a 53rd minute goal from slough born Albanian striker on loan from Chelsea, Armando, broja, a big win for Southampton here, but worrying for bielsa's boys, whose legs looked leaden in this one. They're in 17th place just three points clear of the relegation zone. Yeah, there's the lead if our imagination from last season and this elite of reality from this one that is good about football the other not so much. Another week, another limp performance, not a shot on goal against Ralph Hampton. And yes, they were missing their free kings, Patrick Bamford, Kelvin Phillips and rafinha. But Southampton were also missing James wood Proust still conjured enough football including a lead to like counter finishing by but on his first start to sink bielsa's mob and extract their first win of the season. This was the worst leader performance. I've seen since I returned to the Premier League and there's a creeping concern up north davout. Do they small squad and replenished plus B else's unforgiving murder ball style football has just worn them down and left and truly vulnerable to the unthinkable this season, a relegation battle that we'll have them all, sitting on the edge of their buckets. Norwich nil Brighton nil Josh Sargent will be hoping that Greg berhalter was out for his morning jog through a crowded downtown area, perhaps wearing interesting sneakers. "Renew speed interview now because IRA jerseys really on to talk about Italy, England to help ignorant Americans. Like myself, but right now we're going to go into like the business of things and get to it quickly. Ira Jersey ahead of all of our fixed income, Should I be concerned about overnight repo the money there? The trust market where we're parking money overnight is out near one trillion, and some model it up to 1.5, or more trillion I don't think we should really be worried about it. I think what the the fact that the feds reverse Repo facility. We think we'll get over $1.2 Trillion. It's just showing that there is a lot of cash sloshing around that Maybe the market doesn't really need So it has to be absorbed by the Federal Reserve because there's really not another place for that catch to go can destabilize money market funds where they break the buck. Uh, no. In fact, it will do just the opposite and and the creation of a standing repo facility in the not too distant future instead of the temporary one that they've been using. I think it's something that the Fed will ultimately do. It just makes perfect sense in a world where you're always going to have QE as a policy option going forward, so you'll need at some point. To absorb some of those reserves via something like an RP facility. All right, the 10 year tragedies at 1.28% Irish. Should I take off the table? My year end 2% call you have to, you know, considering that greatly, obviously. You know, from a fundamental perspective when you look at where the economy is, yields are too low. But the the market seems to be focused on things like you know, will there be additional shutdowns? Will the global recovery be able to be maintained with The threat of additional virus related shutdowns, and most of the most of the rally. The last few weeks has come in what's called real yields, so this is not inflation expectations. You know, we're talking about reflation trades coming off. The bond market has not priced out inflation going below 2% anytime soon. What it is saying is that growth expectations are coming down and maybe policy is going to be, uh, be removed too early one final quick question on adult stuff, and then we'll get to soccer because you are our soccer expert IRA Jersey. Can you link together the wall of money in the short, short term trust market? With the desire to buy bills, notes and bonds. Is it just There's so much money out there that people put a bid to price. Well, you know, this is a narrative that people are trying to express. But I don't think that there is because if you were if you hold reserves and you hold this short end money, you're probably not going out and buying a 10 year or 30 Year Treasury because That has significant amount of interest rate exposure. You know, if if if interest rates go if 10 year yields go from where they are today, up to 2%, you're going to lose about 6% in dollar terms, and that's not something that you'd want to do with short end money, So the market action does not fit that narrative. In my opinion, we don't care. What we care about is IRA Jersey folks has done more for youth soccer than anybody within the global Bloomberg family. This is a guy who's legit. Intimately involved in this. How will you watch England, Italy on Sunday. Ira Jersey? Yes. So, so we're actually having our fan appreciation event right before kickoff for for Italy, England? And, Yeah, we're going to be watching it for fun. It'll be the You know, I'm not going to watch it much for tactics. I'm just going to watch some of the great players on both teams. And it'll be really interesting to see how you know Italy this stalwart of European football back on the center stage and in England for the first time since 1966 in a major your Major Cup final, so and of course, the last time they Played in 1966 in the final. They won so the World Cup back then. So this is a big deal for them, And I think it's a nation that, you know, need some optimism. After what they've gone through between Brexit and and all the covid shutdowns there being at the epicenter of a lot of the problems that last year and a half So IRA here at Bloomberg Radio and TV. We've been talking a ton about this soccer tournament this morning. Not so much about the hockey there. Apparently, there's a Stanley Cup one last night. From your perspective at the grassroots level, you're at all levels of soccer here in the U know the Central Jersey area. Give us a sense of where you think Soccer is in the psyche in the zeitgeist in the you know of the American sports fan. Well, so I think it's it's continually improving, and I think the fact that we have more and more professional teams in smaller and smaller markets, I think is very telling. So you know, for a very long time you had baseball have, you know, minor league teams almost everywhere in the country, and now you have a significant interest from both fans, players and potential owners. Have minor league soccer team in communities that wouldn't normally have a professional soccer team just because they're not seen as being large enough or don't have, you know communities that are interested in going But you look at places like you know. Greenville, South Carolina, for example. You know they they've created a great soccer culture down there and, you know, And even though it's if they have a third division soccer team, they get good crowds and they play very attractive Soccer. It's great stuff. I remember watching Nigeria bunch of years ago. I think I had a beverage of my choice in my hands, and they were kicking the ball from 40 ft out there. I saw this last night with great collision with Wonderful. Kelvin Phillips of England is well is an ugly American who's really not into it. Am I wrong that there should be a lot more shooting at that enormous goal? Yeah, well, we say that as well, It's it's difficult. Sometimes I think the shoot when you're you know, 18 yards out, you're at the top of the penalty area, which is the place where the goalie can use their hands and you want people to shoot all the time. But in the moment when you see that there's another player bearing down on you, and you think they're going to get in front of you. You know, you just you play that extra half a second and you don't shoot, But, yeah, I think in a lot of in a lot of cases, you know, we encourage players to shoot a little bit more frequently. Then they do. I mean, in a game that you know we had last night with the minor league team that I own. We were imploring some of our players, you know, on breakaways to shoot a little bit earlier, because if you wait Then you get closed down. So yeah. What's the name of this team that you are on? Real Central New Jersey soccer are there they're endorsed, like, Isn't there? Stadium endorsed by like, you know,.

"Well, unless they're dealing with the housing crisis on market on fire, so You know all these things combined with a little bit of realization, and just to scramble to get back in and not left short on the bond market. On the equity side. I mean, is the Rotation trade, which has been working so well for the last 10 months. And I'm thinking energy banks just kind of the cyclical names. Is that something that maybe Has played out. Are we hearing some of that in the marketplace? Well, I mean, the point is that the reason why I'm more conviction. What I just said about the bomb market is because the equity market isn't reacting. It's carrying on going up. So in that sense, this is not a fundamental change about fears, overgrowth or ever really is it Let's face it. So you know, it's probably equity markets concerned. Things are set there. You know, we obviously had Stocks have gone up far, far too much. We were well over to your rotation. Likewise, Bank stocks perhaps won't be the flavor of the day from for a while, but this is all a much more healthy equity market. In some senses. I said at the Chicago Bears did that there's own teammates would beat them, but Marcus set us up for Italy. Let's look forward set us up for Italy, England. What's the difference between those two teams? Well, one is a team that suddenly found itself that you can actually play and has an excellent players. They mostly come on, um, a substitute, but nonetheless we've been very cautious and getting better and better. Italy is the class team. The class act you would normally think would walk it right will probably be a little bit worried here. I think because they've got attacking planets. Kelvin Phillips came on. And was with Grealish was just wonderful life because, like in America, they actually kick the ball and try to score. Marcus does is a true aficionado of this. Do you like guys like that to come out?
