"Okay, open your eyes. Were those not the sounds you were imagining I'd play? Here's what comes to my mind. I'm in the mountains. I can feel the sunshine on my face. I can feel the cool chill coming up off the Alpine water. I can see the tiny flecks of sparkle in the granite. I bet that every person in this room is imagining something a little different. But filled with all sorts of distinct details about the surroundings, about the circumstances. Audio is incredible that way. Erotic audio stories have characters and plot. But like the sounds you just heard create a blueprint for your mind to then fill in the blanks. They allow you to develop your own vision of what's appealing in a way that can get lost when you see some things specific or explicit on screen. You may not be ready or interested in dipping a toe into erotic audio stories. And that's okay. So today, I'm going to walk you through how you might get started creating your own stories and activating your own sexual imagination. I won't take this too far. You don't have to follow along right now. But consider this a guide for the next time you get a little me time. First, you'll want to settle into your mind the same way that you might start a meditation. Then imagine that your mind is like a projector. Everything you can see and experience is what's right in front of you. Everything to your left, right, behind you, that's out of frame. This is important because while there are thoughts that turn us on, there are also thoughts that are incredibly effective at turning us off. Stress, shame, insecurities, and also the things that inexplicably ick us out. So, when a thought appears that isn't working, and it inevitably will. You'll be able to sweep it out of frame. You can start with your senses, imagine colors, textures, sounds, images, anything that gives you sensory pleasure. Sometimes I like to imagine cherry blossoms, softly floating down from trees. Or I use a fiery pinkish orange or a relaxing blue as a backdrop for the experience that I'm imagining. Next, try places and keep in mind that setting will be more important to some of us than to others. Reach back into your memory to that secluded beach you visited many years ago. Or create a setting from scratch with as much privacy and comfort or as many adventurous stakes as you like. Next, think about a person and layer on a narrative. Maybe it's a character from one of your favorite books. Maybe it's your girlfriend. Hey, maybe it's a guy in a kilt. Whoever it is, how do they approach you? What's motivating them? What energy are they coming to you with? What about you? What do you say, and what do you do together? And when you find something that you really like, play it out for a while. You will have just designed your own story. The more you flex this muscle, the more you'll understand what turns you on. And be able to communicate those things to a partner. You can share the entire fantasy with them if you're comfortable, that kind of disclosure can be very intimate and affirming. Or don't. It is not a betrayal to use your imagination to bring you more pleasure. Fantasy is a safe space. And it's time we bust the myth that what you fantasize about and what you want to happen in reality are always the same thing. So allow me to offer us a bigger definition of what sex is. Sex isn't just a physical act. It's a mental experience. And it isn't wholly depends on a partner. It starts with you. You're the one in control of creating the most pleasure for you. You're the protagonist. As much as you love someone or feel attracted to them, they are playing a supporting role. And you for them. Sex is an avenue to accessing feelings of a liveness, empowerment, joy, and confidence innate to all of us. That aliveness, that is the impact of sexual wellness. And you will feel it walking down the street, entering any conversation, navigating any relationship. Put that way, none of us can afford not to prioritize sex. It isn't a nice to have or an if I get to it, dead last on our list right after picking up the dry cleaning. So, the next time you notice that you haven't been in the mood for a while, carve some time out for yourself and let your imagination tell you a sexy story. Thank you. PRX..

How AJ Thinks the Baldwin Shooting Happened, and Who Is to Blame

"What you're going to find out is that this gun was used for target practice when the crew was in filming. There were live rounds in that gun and you're gonna learn that Hannah and some fucked up friends of hers would use the gun during off hours and lo and behold, this winter mixed up live ammo with blanks because she wasn't ready for the job. Hard blame also has to come down on the first day D as well as ultimately Alec Baldwin for pulling that trigger. His career will never be the same. Movies will forever change and how they use guns and criminal suits, civil suits, and lawsuits will be filed for the next 5 to 6 years. It's not funny, but it is kind of calming. It's not funny at all. But when you stop and think and go, wait a minute, Alec Baldwin is responsible for putting people on this movie who were scabs and in doing so, he put someone in charge who wasn't ready for the job of ultimately loading a gun that he was gonna fire. So yes, you have to blame him in a large sense. I'm not calling him a murderer. You wanna say it's manslaughter? Yeah, I totally understand that. There was no criminal or evil intent. But the blame has to fall somewhere and I think Hannah Gutierrez read and this guy hauled the first AD or fucked their careers are ruined and Baldwin's career is gonna suffer for a long, long

"We also looked at a couple other books that were out there and look at the way they frame their so. We kind of framed ours after the oakland a.'s was susan's lesser And we looked at the way. They did it they had a lot of. Qna's susan had her own. Chapter co author had his own chapter. And we just. I looked at it like that. I presented to lincoln as if he liked. Did it presented to our editor. Who worked on that previous books. He was totally down with it and we just went so then at that point we tried to figure out. Well who should we talk to. Who do we want. Qna's with well. We got everybody from mark. Davis to mark dane. Who gave his absolutely positively no sense that he was going to be resigning from the team. At any time Rich gannon talked about the super bowl. In-depth i've never heard him talk about it like that before to tom. Flores who went in the hall of fame autos in the hall of fame and was one of lincoln's biggest mentors when he first came to. But there's twenty chapters ten of qna's and then ten others are just chapters on lincoln's takes on every single raider hall of famer Lincoln's takes on different personalities that either played with and or covered So it's a real interesting. "But i think that the raiders defense is here to stay. I want better communication from the offense. I want early on versus ravens. A communication was not good. The raiders offense has never looked worse. Honestly i've never seen that rate. Look raider offense. Look as bad as they did early on the steelers come at russia's they're gonna come up blitzes. The offense has to be on a day game due to go toe to toe steelers. Do you just kind of attribute that shaky start at the offense had just to maybe not even playing together in preseason even though they have the scrimmages with the rams and i know they said you know this is all Even better than having a preseason game going through those inter-squad practices but You do feel like the kind of shaking rust or adjusting to the crowd or just working together in real time. We attribute it to. I think. I think let's start with car. I think that sometimes derek gets a little too ramped up. I think he gets a little. That might be you know just the the nerves and the crowd in front of me wants to go out there and make every throw perfectly so i think at first he was a little ramped up. I was trying to force the ball. The wall a lot but i think he was little. He i think in the second half he. Derek settled down a little bit and started making some smarter. Plays with the football. And it's hard. Heidi you gotta you gotta rookie left. Good goes down pretty early on in the game. You got andre james. That's a young player. That's never started that snapping. So you have you have johnson. Who's a young player. You have a lot of inexperienced online and no preseason games you just thrown these guys out there hoping that their work. You got the crowd going nuts. You got the ravens defensive. Lineman claes campbell. It was a huge task. So i think early on it was partners. I think as park communication you saw. What the front with the bad snap. You didn't see a lot of bad snaps. Rodney hudson a derek carr. Let's be honest. So i think they have the find that groove. I think a couple of games can take a couple games to get used to each other. Practice practice scrimmages scrimmages once the pads. Come on a game comes on. It's a different animals big. It's going to take a little bit of time but you can't take time when you're playing the steelers you can't take time with tj. That's off the edge and cam here where it's coming up in the middle. So this line specially with the injury to denzel. Good they need to stay. Need richie incognito back. I don't know what his deal is. I don't know if it's just lingering from last year or it's a new injury or you don't know what it is from richie. They desperately need especially in still game. Guy chain cognate on the field. Hopefully you can get healthy and get out there fisher and just because you are talking injuries..

"It really doesn't matter who's technically to start or not mattis who makes replacing these games and another point. I want to get on the vinyl finish. The crazy art attacks. I'm sure all raider nation was having eddie first before we get into the actual plays itself. Just walk me through your emotions. As the game was ending their overtime. What was like for you so it's funny. I was with two colleagues from siriusxm to people that. Been to football games before. But they've never been to raider game and they didn't know what my level of fan them was watching football team so i think they were kind of just watching my reactions as as the game was playing out. I think everybody. Let's let's talk about daniel carlson daniel carson. Making money kicks the plays. That car made to to brian edwards finally trusting him enough to throw them those passes get live vehicle and then. I think the brian edwards. Td up using air quotes right now. Td where he almost got in. The place was going bananas. The places going crazy walk off win like unbelievable. And everybody's kind of when you're not watching on tv you don't get the whole sense of what the hell's going on. Sometimes so you see people come in a gun and all of a sudden. They're like okay used. The referee comes out and he's short and kind of let the air out a little bit. And then i'm on my phone trying to get the game winning. Td all right cargoes and steaks and doesn't get it and pedal dan on my my god. This is gonna be this. This is this. that's my point. This is going to be another disastrous raider outcome where they had the game won and they find a way to lose and then they get the ball back and then daniel. Carlson runs on the field. I'm like no i'm screaming. Like no get him off the field. You don't need to kick it right now please. He's been money but it's second down. Get them off. The field and john's touchdown it's just as raider fans and raider nation. You really wouldn't have it any other way to to have a role across the game. Nothing with this team could ever be easy but in the end it's one know they came out with the way they beat a really good football team in dramatic fashion. I i still don't think i'm over it emotionally. I'm glad the game sunday at one o'clock hopefully by then i'll get over it but it's just such a confidence boots and people were just loving it. The fans we're going crazy to walk back to the delano. In a mandalay bay was epic. I got a picture of an video my fault people all pumped up screaming raiders. All day long heidi yes. I video to people people going to walk back was really cool. Vegas funny thing is i. I was you know vegas. You wanna go out and party. I didn't even go out after the game. I was so mostly spent that this went back to my room. And i'm just like sitting there. I was like what the hell does happen. you know. i was honestly wired until like three in the morning. And i had a seven. Am radio show to get to so. Yeah that was. It was rough. It was rough. But i wanna move on now to the steelers game like we started talking about it. Big bend completely different. Look at quarterback than what you saw a lamar jackson. So what would you say right. Now when you think about ben rothlisberger and how this defense approaches this game is going to be. The big factor in the raiders. Trying to hold the steelers offense down. Yeah i think people want to come out there and say that ben rothlisberger is at the same player again..

"That the only reason you need to moisturizer when you're an adult is because you moisturised during your younger and and i'm just saying the guy who didn't use shampoo because he said the only reason you need shampoo is because you've been using your shampoo your whole life. Oh my god. It's absolutely ridiculous. So i've gotten past that so he definitely uses some facial moisturizer stuff but the thing i'm proudest of is you know. I'm big on all sorts of hygiene but dental hygiene right. Because when i was younger i did not take great care. My teeth and i remember. I think i was nineteen or twenty. I know i was still in college. I went to the dentist. Get this is early stages of ginger vitus and at that scary thing they say on the listerine commercial. Aww divided since i was like all right. I'm not anti sons but you know what let's talk about yokich winning the mvp real quick because it made me very happy it was your face said it made you angry and i was worried. Oh made me so happy. Like i mean speaking of crying like i almost didn't quite but almost cried. Just watching him do his interview with the tnt guys the other night the as soon as when shack said For the big fellows yoga and yoga's kind of like pointed in the air dropped his head. He was so proud of that and like the things that he went through like being the antithesis of what we think of when we think of this amazing nba. Athlete i mean he looks like and i think dan libertad probably sto this phrase i but i remember thinking back in years or over the years. He looks like a loaf of bread. He should not be winning the nba mvp and it just made me so happy to watch them do it. And then because his game is so unique to at that position. It's just like i want to see how far this goes now. This isn't like anti chris. Paul i like chris paul. I want to. I want him to make an nba finals at surpli- career. So it's not like The thing that hangs over his head. Yeah yeah and so but with yokich. I just wanna see him. Go as far as possible. That makes me very sad. It's murray's on the team because pretty sure they'd be there. I know it's such a bummer. Just like you're about to go do it. And they're still doing it but it is just like man. If they had him they had murray they would be. I think they'd be really live fan. So i'm yeah. I mean i don't know they could do it but just fingers crossed. We're not supposed to do that. Because you're working the game all cross. My fingers are not cheering for anybody. No of course not now if it goes anything like my last game you might not actually see my face because grizzlies jazz game three and never actually gone on camera enough herd but never my face. It was weird. 'cause that buggy when that happens or is it no matter. Oh no the only thing that bugs me is that i put on the makeup anyway and say the hair and make up at bug me. We'll have to wear a mask right and so mass with the makeup and all. I'm doing smelling makeup in my mass. That part bugs me. So if i had to do that for three hours and didn't actually get cameron. Be a little but you know who the hell wants to look at me. Anyway you get used to the smell of makeup. That's just me giving you a bit of if we have to go on wearing masks forever that sent you just get to it the way it feels on your skin and makes you feel absolutely disgusting. You get used to it. Let me tell you how you like. I now have a regiment. When it comes to like so. I used to excite fun of mike greenberg. Skin-care will. I'd see him in the makeup chair after a show and he was lean back like he was at a barbershop getting shaved. It was one of the the makeup artists taking every little ounce of makeup off his face like giving a whole facial every single day. And i was just like look at that guy and now i use katie appre cleanse no way so wait walk me through the steps of your skin care routine you use up. Free cleanse sto. It's only after. I've used either Sunscreen or make upright so using sunscreen every day right. 'cause you're in miami whenever i'm spending more than fifteen minutes in the sun. Yes as i say. I use sunscreen every day. And i haven't left my house in a year. Don't love ya. I hate it too. Especially you like the mineral stuff and is good. It doesn't smell and it's not. It's not the same oblique this anyway so that. I'm not actually endorse anything. A pre clinton's i so. Yeah so i basically got this one and if you read the instruction it's like it's just another soak for us this one. But in i'd take the stuff and put it everywhere on my face. Okay like you take the water like emulsified a little bit into the liquid. Then take this little grey little pad. I think it's plastic. It's got these little nubs on. It feels really nice. If you just kinda rub it all over your face and you get all that off all right. It feels to proclaim but that was just the pre cleansing regular clans. And just watch the face really good and then i can very careful around the under is because i mean. Look if we're just going to be totally honest and we're keeping this all in chris. Berman had been on. Tv alah laws time in his life and he is at a point where you know. He was on tv at a point. Where you know back in the day the probably say much to do about skin care and i'm like the under eye area is something that i'm very very cognizant about because of chris berman shoutout to the legend. And so i definitely like make sure it's all out of there but i have to be very delicate with dragon and then watching him. Do this listener. I just want you to know is very rewarding. And i'm sorry that you're not getting that part of the experience and then just put on my moisturizer. I have the debate every single time. It's like should. I put the under ice stuff on my putting it on too much now. What's the under is stuff. Is it a cream is it a. Is it one of those ones that has caffeine in it to keep it from getting go. It's just a little repair cream. Okay fine i ended whatnot I did the old caffeine little bing one time. You know the little role. Oh yeah i don't really have. I mean i don't know you don't have bags. I can tell you right now. So i don't necessarily need that but basically this is another reason why it sucks not to be able to go in studio because i would just get all this advice for makeup. Yes i couldn't be more than happy to do it so now just like my eyes like i pay attention to every little detail and be like is that new. What's going on there is noticeable. Is the i ever wrinkle that. I just started noticing. And i've got crows feet and i've got a smile lines but always like whatever. I have a wrinkle on the top of my lip like on my upper right above my lip. And i'm like that's old lady wrinkle. Nobody gets a random wrinkle in the middle of their upper lip except an old lady. I'm getting my first one. Where i like the i just like. Oh that's a wrinkle like that's not just like oh you've lived you've left you've loved it's like no no you are getting old of old lady face but i can't even get my boyfriend to put lotion on his face. He's like do. I use hand lotion. I said no you. Don't use hand lotion. You have to get specific face moisturizer and the thing. I said they have not made it. Click but he still doesn't do it but at least it was the first step. Is you get one skin. You're not putting on moisturizer for now. You're putting it on for then you're making your skin more elastic. So that as it stretches out it's nicer about it so my anthony has a theory on. He had a theory on this. I've gotten a pass this. He used to sink..

"Even their growth like so much dependent on. Hey look at this. Foreign guide is international. Guy that we're bringing over and we're bringing all identity in his story lines and his skill and we're just going to back off of that and hopefully like our guys will catch your attention to know the go ahead and just push what it is that you want out there. What do you want to be known for what do you. What's the thing that makes you love the sport because like you can get people to look over in your direction in any number of ways. But once they're looking in your direction. What do you want them to see talk about that. Push that because people are going to come in the door because of the story about the flag women's soccer or because of the You know foreign player coming over to. Mls that's going to bring them into your party but then you can't just not have anything going on in your party because people are going to go and yeah. There's going to be some people who are just looking for the type of controversy that you don't want to have all the time let us. We believe you don't need people. You don't like it your party but once you've got people at the party give him something what it hook them rem like. Make them stay. I'm using the party. Algae now unlike. I'd wanna leave at some point. I would want somebody who let me leave. But it's just like make sure you've got something. I feel like so many people want to be looked at like nobody's ready to be seen. It's like what is it that you want to show us. And i think that you know we can do better job with women's sports. I'm talking about that kind of stuff. The problem for me and this is making excuses but it's kind of validity to it is that i'm kind of a secondary or almost like third layer of coverage said this when i came to espn and mike. The reason. i'm so excited is the best in the business of reporting sports are here which means i have so much to play with because i don't report sports. I'm not watching every basketball game and breaking it down. But i can take those storylines and be like. Oh let's look at them. This way awaited. Sports doesn't like to usually look at things. Is there anything here. is this funny. But if there's no if we're not talking about women's sports the way we're talking about men's sports there's less for me to any women's soccer fan any nws l. fan knows so much more about that league than i do at the moment just is the case because they are rabid fans that seek out information that that love it which is great for that league and they hopefully will turn that into a bigger audience. But i feel this guilt of like. I want to talk about the drama. But i don't nobody else is talking about it at all so it's very difficult because then you become a podcast about a very niche thing. Which is i no. I wanna be the mainstream thing talking. This chipping away conversation again. Right now what are we just had a. Liz cambay beige Conversation because you know opposing coach called her three hundred pounds switch by the way the opposing coach being a gay man who has worked in women's sports his whole life should have known better than that that was probably as big as screw up of his life but anyway we talked about her. Pay money to look like kambasch but keep trying and then like the next thing i see about her is just a little jif of her smiling while she's backing somebody down in scoring so easily that she's like ha ha ha and i'm like okay. It's a good direction. Were actually watching her. Play basketball amount not talking about her physique not saying oh go check out her instagram. She looks amazing. Like we're we're we're actually showing a clip of her playing basketball if we could expand that a little bit more like maybe she laughs at people the entire game. And you're just like. Wow you know what. That'd be pretty fun to watch if you know i get to watch this person dominate and she's like laughing opponents off the court that's pretty so we're getting closer like find reasons to tune into the s but it's it's it's small and it's got to be one of those things again twenty years from now you didn't even notice when the big turn game you just like wnba as part of my life now. I don't know when that happened. But i'm better for everything is progress in progress is slow and everything that all the loud stuff happening on the way to progress. Feels like it happens really fast and loud in all the progress like quiet and calm and so it can feel like you can get caught up in all the crazy stuff but i agree by the way going in chicago. Why progress progresses a gay bar in chicago and the reason it sounds like like whatever is love is a four letter word. You like progress. A gay bar in charleston. I was trying to figure out a way to change the conversation of prime. I think in a progress. Oh yeah that's the barn chicago. We used to have one here but they closed down But yeah actually played in a flag football tournament in chicago. You talk about like a slow build up. Its men being forty mid forties or mid forties. They in your mid forties and like trying to build your body up to play in like a busy your shirtless on tv all the time. I haven't were two years. I haven't we have not picked up a weight in years like i'm starting to dread. I'm like i need to start working out because now we're getting to the point. Where like it's just gonna start shutting down so you with your muscles popping out of your t-shirt your mouth true story. I was at a memorial day thing on memorial day Bunch of people. I didn't know it was Anthony's friends friends and the time that anthony had hung out with them. I was at towns. I literally nobody in this place and so hanging out. Whatever a couple of hours later new a couple talked to a couple people playing some cornhole blah blah blah and then. I'm going to the restroom inside the house and has i'm coming out like somebody asked me if i'm who i am and i'm like yeah and i'm like the the guy's like oh. Wow it's so crazy we're just sitting there saying like and this is a true story. They're just in their say. Well let's just waste takes his shirt off 'cause if he's ripped we know it's busy and i'm just like oh my god i have created this like monsters like the I go to every time. I think about not going to the gym just like no pictures are online and every literally picture for highly questionable as you with your shirt off. Mine is me as a child with a fake laser background. So i literally gave charlie our producer other options. I gave me from high school picture this in a suit and he wouldn't give it to me is just gives me that one. Yeah you have earned. It is easy. You look like that so be proud. Pride is a gay bar in chicago. What's wrong what happened sorry. I just remembered on spain and fitz tonight. And i thought i missed it. Go go no no. I'm not for an hour okay. Well we're i mean we can wrap it up anyway. I'm trying to see if there's anything else. I was dying. Ask you about. But you've been so honest and it's been really really nice to hear your story. And i hope this was No.

"I didn't come out until you know until two weeks before my wedding there were probably because that sounds on its face. Wild is like if. I waited till two weeks before i got married to be like. Hey i like dudes like like you're about to marry one. Of course it seems i- fascinating to me but it's also like it's okay to sort of chip away like do it a little bit differently or or not have it all figured out at once and it's just kind of like the same thing with everything it's like when we shine a light on something that's going wrong in the world it's not like hey let's fix it all at once. It does have to be chipped away. Does have to be slow and we do have to be vigilant about it. But it's going to have to be slow. And i think that's the other part of it is when you have so much more time on your own things aren't necessarily collaborative and if they are collaborative through zoom and you're not really sure of half the people are paying attention on their You just you're in your own head a lot and listen. I've spent my whole f in life in my own head in nearby place to be. And so i need some like collaborative juices To to really make me good about something for me to meet make me want a break through the wall and you know something like Giving me a deadline. Basically like yeah. I'm with you on that. I'm the same way the missing and it's been it's been weird lately like i'm an introvert as much as one can be on television. I'm an introvert in that like. That's how i recharge is by retreating into my own head whether it's good or bad it's usually pretty bad But i need the like. I don't seek out other people to recharge. But i think i gather something from human interaction that i would like to think i can do on my own but i can't that i just. I do need people but unlike a reluctant reluctant to admit how much like a meeting can actually really helped me. I mean meeting can be awful and go poorly but a meeting is like. Oh okay i feel i feel a little little bit like more excited to go. Do the thing that we need to accomplish some creative genius who could send a room by themselves and come up with just an absolute layered great concept pretty clear. We both are. That knows that. But what i love is just having the beginning of an idea and then just having a couple of other people pylon and then you sort of get rich layered be a story or feature idea or whatever and it's also just little by little just affirmation like okay so it was a good idea to begin with and this just makes it a little bit better. This makes a little bit better at cool and so it's just yeah i mean there's a lot of t mortgage been missing. I feel like. I've been bitching this entire now. We both have. This is a review. I've gotten before everyone's like. You're going to get out of this and stopping so sad and i'm like i'm talking about the sadness so we can all kind of process it and you guys can learn from like my sadness so i'm just letting you guys know what it feels like so that you can like my depression. You can stop by. Take a look at it. Like sounds awful. I shouldn't i should learn the lessons that she's trying to learn and then never spend any time but my favorite thing in a meeting is when somebody is this a bad idea but i have have it and it's haunting me. Toss tossed out there and then somebody else hears it is like i know exactly where you're going and you're actually trying to go over here and then they're like yes i that. What if we did this. And then you always said in a rolling down a hill in your both like. I knew i wasn't crazy to think this was a good idea like that's the best viewing habits tilted in a year and a half and that's being that's low balling. It might have been longer than that. It's just been a lot of You you've been. But i've been in south florida my entire. Espn existence twenty twelve and well. Now there's definitely nobody else. But here i was gonna say there. You lost a huge chunk of would even that was their own entity their own show like i was part of it or whatever but it wasn't like i wasn't in their meetings. They were talking to me about stuff and wanted to do so. It's like i'm on an island over here and this isn't like a knock on the whole Experience or the whole you know going about this but you know if you're not in the offices you're kind of out of sight outta mind been like Unless you force your way into that like you're just not going to get that interaction and so there's been a lot of or very little of that throughout the course of my espn gris. I've got used to. But i was just thinking about this the other day i was like i'm the beat writers lonely ass job like it's you're you're literally around like you're on the road you around the people that you know those people you know also happen to be like your daily competition so it's like ooh i like you but i can't say too much you know it's just a weird exist Yeah i think.

"And you're just the picture of stubbornness like if i were to to to print out this conversation. It would just be a guy thinking. He's so enlightened and being like oh this media moron is trying to start a fight with me of and i'm not trying to start. You're trying to trying to inform him on something. It appears he's not informed on that. You think you have a perspective. That would help him. A person impact understand what his power means and how he wields. It won't wanna hear thing and so that's the part that it's just like what's the point right point of being on here. I have to put up with like. I literally got anxious and also knowing like there's the people you can feel that are smiling while they're texting you angrily or tweeting at you angrily and it's just like why are you. Why is this. Bring you joy like you log in for this. And i log in hope. I don't experience this. That's how we're different. There's too many people who are on there. That are like i wanna fight. And there's people that want to fight for something believe in but then there's people who just want to fight and they just want it's just so frustrating to go on like the micro level of that story is you're seeing this thing of interest in women's sports and you know thank you to female athletes. Thank you to the wnba. Thanks to the women's national team and now suddenly a bunch of people who were never interested in women's sports before are like we've gotta keep trans kids at a sports for our girls and it's like you don't care about girls playing sports you really really haven't is the message. And so i told this this gentleman. I said Yes you are people who just fall for the messaging without actually understanding. What's going on. And he was like you believe what you think. I believe what i believe in because of messaging and i thought was ever spoken about it before. Yeah have you ever once in your life said man we gotta get these transgender girls out of these Girls teams in high school. Because it's becoming a problem. No the second it is brought up to you and their message is mentioned to you. Oh yeah that's right. And i'm gonna support and i'm going to echo that that's exactly falling for the mets yet and i can't imagine that i can't imagine looking at a story that big that affects that many people that has that many emotions and personal identities tied up in it. And just going yom on this side. And i'm gonna speak really loudly about it like i know there's a lot of Issues related to transit issues. That i need to get more educated on so i don't spend a ton of time speaking on it as if i know what i'm talking about but i am watching people have the conversation and i do know that i'm like well that same suspect suspect of just like why are we talking about. Why are you using sports as like the we must save this beacon of hope that we caring about an hate in any other context. You remember the bathroom bill in north carolina. That's this is what an extension of that was like they You know. I say that they but you know i'm talking about We're trying to say okay. This is something. America can get on board with you. Go to the bathroom that you're supposed to go down but then when it got blowback it's like well we didn't expect this now. Let's go with this route. Hey girls girls teams Let's protect our little girls. They're in danger their danger katie. They're not endanger. The ap. Did a story about this okay. And they talked. I wanna say like thirty. Some of the sponsors at least twenty of the sponsors of these bills across the state and like barely any of them could even come up with one example of an issue in their entire state of of this particular thing where you've got a transgender girl trying to play sports and it becomes a problem like a couple of them. Several of them couldn't think of a single single issue in their state and here they are. You know vehemently say pandemic. it's it's a joke. And that's what i'm saying. It's just like you you. You feel like overwhelming responsibility to shout from the rooftops. Hey like what is happening here is terrible and everybody needs to recognize it. But you get this you know apathy from one side you get this blowback from the other side you got. Is you know the the the the dummies who believe that they know more than you do. Who are just you know. Just proving themselves proving dining kruger part of what they are and it's just it can be a lot and it's just there are times where it's just like the mental health thing like i get it more now than i ever have. I used to you know growing up. I was like. I toughed it out. Like i ignored third of my entire life. And what's wrong with that. I really did. I did for a long time where it's come out. My entire life is like playing sports. I get angry way too angry for somebody who shouldn't be good at it. Her on golfing. Let me throw my clubs. Because you know i didn't hit an eight iron perfectly like get at here. Of course he did. It's manifested in. You know some bad but it shouldn't have and so. That's that's the point you shouldn't have to go through all that stuff but I get it more so now than ever and. I'm glad that people are talking about it earlier. Because they don't have to wait until they're in their forties to be like own. That's what that feels like. That's like the close to depression. Feeling her anxiety. And all that stuff like probably wouldn't know what what it was if i was experiencing before was experiencing it before but now i absolutely do. Then that's happened to a lot of people this year. A lot of people have realized that whatever cute word. they've used for it their whole life. There's a feeling that is anxiety And the content to be chronic and or not entirely tied to things that are really happening in your life. It's just like this constant. Like did i leave the oven on and you're like no. You didn't leave the oven. You don't even use your oven by. Would you think that you left your oven on just this constant like oh i forgot to do something very important in my life is going to end if i don't do it and it's just like i think we've all been trying to take a collective breath over the last year and of course it was a year when a ton of things happened in everything feels like it's coming to a fever pitch and i'm with you on the thing you were saying before about how you just feel like there's so many things you wanna do and you want to do it the best possible way and so that ends up leading to like will not gonna do that. I'm gonna do. I'm gonna wait. And do this. Big thing that i still can't quite picture what it is yet but i know i have it and i'm going to do it and i think the pressure comes in like it's just like man you don't wanna like it's okay to chip away ad. It's trial and error it. It's okay to like get something wrong and so that's that major hesitation that same same reason..

north carolina thirty this year last year America third one example one side second katie single single issue echo least twenty team ton of time too many lot of people people couple lot

"People if three people make the same criticism. Then i'm like okay. I have to take this a little bit seriously. It used to be that one could trigger me. And i'd be like that's not true or like god there right. I suck now that like if three people in a row or like you did this and it was this type of bad. I'd be like oh shoot. I guess. I should probably listen. But he also object to 'cause. I got one response to naomi. Osaka discussion and i could understand how maybe she heard what she heard. But it wasn't like close to what i said in fact was the opposite of and so i like dm because that's the my move. I don't try to do anything public and basically said pretty much the opposite You know. I just wanted to make this clear because i there are some subjects writers. Don't want people thinking don't it to one person. I don't want them thinking that. That's how i think i get that feel entitled that. She needed to tell me that she was going through depression new. I'm saying it's better for her. Just image wise for her to be transparent and say this is what i'm going through bait compared to what her sister put out there and compared to what most people were already thinking that she right minded. Those are totally different things and so i don't want anybody thinking i'm just sort of jackass. May like you know like these old school columnists or radio show guys so those are probably try to respond to but again i'll just go more individual. He makes perfect sense. I've always said that like you. You shouldn't get defensive about stuff that you don't the things you get defensive about. Should be the parts of. You're trying to protect of like if i if somebody tells me that i'm flipping about mental health. I'm gonna listen to what they have to say because actually really matters to me that i'm not and then if they continue to double down on an opinion that i'm problematic. I'm going to get defensive of myself. Because i work hard to not be and i'm very open to being told that i messed up. That's something i've worked really really hard on. Because it used to make me crumble into a tiny little ball and hate myself and now unlike look take criticism because it somebody helping you become a better version of yourself. They may not do it well. A lot of people are very rough with it. A lot of people don't have good bedside manner especially on twitter but it's valuable information and feedback when professionally. I haven't received much of that for a couple years because once you're on air talent. Nobody wants to tell you. Hey that kind of sucked they say behind your back and then you don't get a job and you're like okay. What don't you like about me. I'm confused so like twitter for me has now become this place were like. I'm open to hearing feedback but don't attack me. I'm gonna still stand up for myself if you go a little bit too far thing about and this is probably the conversation that made me. Just go over the top. And sam probably going to get rid of it for good is just like you know. We have a horrible governor here in florida and he signed this transgender bill not allowing transgender kids to participate in sports on june first the first day of pride month with his little daughter. They're handing him the pen a daughter who is not to come up with her own opinion on the matter and so clearly he is. You know not only Spreading hate but teaching it and so i just tweeted out. Just a despicable human being. And that's what he what what is to me and then it became sort of transgender athlete. Debate and what. I got to realizing. Is that like the messaging for those who try to pass. These bills is working great because the messaging is. Hey you don't want boys playing girls sports right okay here. Then that's what we're passing here when what they're doing is creating a problem that's not there and therefore you know making. These young people feel absolutely terrible about themselves. Giving giving and taking away obstinate. Leave me no. Five percent of them. Were going to take in terms of playing sports. And so the conversation becomes. Hey you're wrong here This is pretty simple and so when trying to explain to them that you were having this conversation over here. It's just like a magic trick. They're making you have this conversation over here. This is the real truth. And so when i yeah of course and so when i this is one gentleman a coach of course Coach of men of boys not of not girls This is clear as day and so you know. I tried to tell him that you're looking at the wrong problem that it's not a problem. They're creating it out of thin air just to have folks like you believe it and then just you know believe that it's normal and it's not bigotry there you're not writing Basically bigotry into our lawbooks and then he goes to you. Just people like you me. And i'm like well. Yeah basically but then they just get defensive about what does that feel like because you just people like you. Trans people so. I don't understand how i did that far with him. All tried to tell him was that this is a different conversation and he goes no. This is true. I'm sorry you're and i'm just like you know what you are. "Probably sure nobody's really claimed this lane so to speak like the at the root for me to say but like you know people like l. d. l. d. granderson. There are plenty of out. Gay a sports media folks folks again But you know the ones like if l z is talking about a political issue that has to do with. Lgbtq rights or anything like that. It's usually you know on cnn or on a news network whereas i'm staying here and doing the sports thing and it gets really draining at times and i understand why people don't want to sort of stay in this lane and just have to fight all the blowback and everything else but it's not even that a lot of it is just like mentally like tough like half the Not just discussed this all the time. But i also feel like a responsibility at all times like at all types and i shouldn't have to at exactly a great question i don't know i think it's just to the general public anybody who had been experiencing anything that i experienced I've always been that like you. I you know giver type And so that just sort of comes along with the territory when it comes to being somebody of potential influence in this department you know. I see a lot of things that affect me way more now than they would have before like a lot of these transgender bills that have been written in past all across the country. Not just in sports but it comes to medical care to like all that stuff like is so sickening in its like bigotry and just the depth of which we want to like hate and create problems at. Aren't there just so we can set this tone of bigotry and hate exclusion. like all that stuff is just. I just want to do something about it all the time but even for me to do that like we're talking layers upon layers upon layers just to get to all i can do is talk about it. Maybe on a podcast or a radio show somewhere that would have to be listened to by the right people and then you know like i could just go straight into politics and try to make a contribution there but we're talking what i'm forty four at the end of this month like i don't know that can happen so quickly right so all like just it makes me want to do more and more and like working on a project getting too many details it just kind of put on pause for while and that while has just become longer and longer and it's just like i'm constantly feeling like i'm not doing enough. Yeah and my answer isn't hey let me go talk to. Espn about doing a feature on nba. Guy it's i want to do something so much more impactful or so much more influential but like more direct. And so it's it's a tough balance right and then to make it all like to remember and like do all the personal stuff on top of it Manhattan to talk about that a lot like us hundred danced around you know. My ex sorta gave you the the summary in a little package but like forcing like that. Just you just passed away in august like it hasn't even been a year and it's just like it's just a little have to process and it's just and so it's it's something new you know pandemic been mentioned that we're that we went through a global pandemic like you've got a lot of pressures and struggles on your play at the moment and that's kind of the thing about this pandemic i mean there a lot of evil in it death and all the things that we've gotten into and we don't need to rehash right now but the thing that it did for most people other than essential workers is it halted you in one way or another. I know people work through it. I know people adapted but it halted the part of you that i think a lot of us to to avoid having to deal with the stuff that we're not ready to deal with yet and i feel like this also came up in your in your blog. Post was set. Like if you were focused on work and you were doing your job well and you are being authentic in every other way than this thing you get to it when you got to it but you didn't have to get to it because you're busy or working and the pandemic i think was this wall. We all kind of ran into and at first. You know you've got a couple of people pushing against it. That are like no no no no no no no. It took them a little bit longer. But i think everybody eventually kind of settled into this moment of like her. I gotta clean house. Don't i and like that's a lot to sit in alone and like isolated. A lot of people I'm also using the words a lot of people to basically it's me. It's like this happened to me. I was running and running and running. I hit a brick wall. And now i'm sort of just sitting. It just made you recognize like if it's just you or you and somebody else. In my case i had anthony throughout a pandemic and everything else. But it's just like if you need to recognize what it is that makes you happy. And because you don't have the distraction you can't go out and pick up and go to the bar and you know have a couple of men just think about it the next day What you have to address. Because you're literally sitting there and began. Can't find the right thing on netflix. Away like you're wondering. Like why. Am i feeling in my happy. My or do i hate myself. Do i just want to just energy. i don't know. Do i think i'm the best person in the world or do i think i absolutely suck at my job. I'm a fraud or am. I going to these two things for the rest of the day outta here with that like when i used to like we. Okay so let's just go with a game Used to do an nba game or whatever and like after the game the broadcast crew would go for you know at the hotel lobby bar have a drink like unwind talk about the game not sit in your hotel room look at twitter and be like doomed. I knew i messed up or like after a show where just nobody cares. Nobody cares if you did one thing. Wrong or said. And just like you're stewing in it and there's like there's nothing to distract you so you just like. I got off twitter. I would say permanently. Probably gonna be permanent about. I think right now i just kind of deleted. The app would still kept my i handle before. I can't deserves a pat on the back. I couldn't do that at the activated actually for like two months and when i got back to it recently it's just like it wasn't even people interacting with me just watching the way people interact with each other and it's just like it's just overwhelmingly negative and it's just it's a bad place if puts me in a bad place like i'm talking to my trainer I was when i call my trainer. Because he's like your friend. When i was talking to him at the gym. I was just like. Did you ever notice the days where i come in. And i'm just like bitching about something versus the days that i'm not. He's like yeah. Of course i do just like twenty. I'm pretty sure that's because twitter. Pretty sure that that's where it all started telling me wants to. Do you know your mood changes. And you start snapping at me when you check that out. He's like it's twitter. And i remember at the time being like your dick no. It isn't twitter. Shut up and he was like really. You just confirmed exactly what i said. You're being very aggressive with me for no reason. Different ways to think and not be like. Oh wow did i please everybody one hundred percent and you're never going to ever thought out of your head crazy. How much more free space there is there. I feel like you said something. There that sparked a memory. And then i lost it. Oh it was when you're talking about how you used to be able to just do the game and you wouldn't know if anybody hated what you said I was listening to this podcast. It's called you're wrong about. It's very good but it's one of those things do my personal free time so i don't mean to shout them out in any way that is anything other than i enjoy listening to this podcast but anyway It was cancel culture. Which is now because we have to. Because it's the thing world talking about an obsessing about but they were saying that not only. Did it used to be that you. If you disliked something you could write a letter to somebody and maybe the person who said the thing would see it. Maybe they wouldn't now. Also you never knew of other people. Were writing letters to you. Never knew if ten other people had the same opinion as you were writing into the station and now one person can have that opinion and then another person can feel emboldened to take it a little further because they thought that too but now they've got a differentiate how their opinions stalwarts sharing. So it's a little bit more intense and then another person's like why didn't even think that. But i think this person sucks for this reason and it kind of builds into this snowball of just kind of commiserating over a public figure but in a public place and so then you know you log in and you see three people for me..

"Is you know that if people just assume that straight that i'm just going to let them assume it and so what what i think the people that knew me already told me it was like well you don't you know nothing's changed about you. We always thought you were genuine So you're good there but it was basically a plea like you're right. It was hey like just in case you don't know like this isn't something i mean coming out is not me changing and the craziest part about that is this. And this is the thing that i'm talking about. Katie words like you assumed people know things right so my aunt has known me my entire life. Okay she's my mom's younger sister. And i have super close family like i consider my on my mom's side like you know other mothers and so when i came out to them At already talked to my two sisters two of my three sisters it might be by the way Group in a house with three sisters a mom and dad who slept all day and worked all night. Like how did i not have a bunch of like feminine tendencies. I don't even know but you know. I love those ladies but yeah what was i going. I don't know why i went to that. You were talking about how When you told your aunt. So i told my two sisters and then so now. I'm telling my mom my aunt and another one my third sister and so i just like she screams out. She goes gay. And i'm like and she goes. But and this is legit verbatim. But you're still going to be used right. I don't actually like this. And i'm like oh my god is like wow. You really really know you've been around me my whole life like yes. I'm still going to be me. I'm not telling you anything other than you know my sexual interests which frankly we weird to have to tell your on. I'm not saying that. I worry that if i say that as a straight person that i sound rude but i do empathize with this. Like i don't ever talk about sex. Mainly because in a male dominated industry blah blah blah all that trope stuff. It's like people want me to. And i'm like stop so in order to be Comfortable online forward-facing. I have to kind of remove that part of it. Because i'm like i don't want people to get the wrong idea and think that they're invited to that part of my life. I i wonder for people in these. The big you know hoopla around public coming out half of it. That makes me uncomfortable on your behalf. That like what. If you just don't wanna talk to me about the kinds of people you like to have sex with. You didn't have to what do you. What do you like whenever we break it down with that but it just becomes so much of a. Hey i am this person. You don't like me for some reason or you might be predisposed not to like me We should probably just go ahead and and like listen or open up and like at least consider. Why don't like me and It just becomes that to me. It's just like i take. I take very much pride in being a hispanic male like if there was a lot of issues are open racist issues going on in my world. You know when it came to hispanic people would be. You know i would brush up on my spanish and that'd be fighting with my feeble you know wherever but in this scenario like it's become it's become such an important part like it's who i am it's part of who i am and you know you if you're going to force me to just like push it down and not you know discuss things you know because if you think about how regularly and how easily i mean you do this sort of relationship analogies or Mention their significant other or like. It's so casual when people do it when heterosexual but like i literally at like dodged my whole life like a slalom course out there. Like no can't talk about this. Let's move this. You know that no matter what you say will be reduced to the fact that you said did he say when two guys in. It's and it's like well. He's speaking where he's coming from. And don't you're focusing on the window dressing instead of hearing his point right to me. That's what you know knowing. Somebody's identity like finding out. Somebody's gay for me is like thank you for letting i now can understand you better i can. Now you can use analogies with me that i can use your who who you are to understand your perspective so that i can get closer to your perspective. See your way and see how that influences or should influence my thoughts on the issue going forward. It's like just identifying. Hey i'm coming from over here and you're like okay now. They know where you're coming from. I can tell you where i'm coming from. And that's how we figure out where the directions to where we need to get to. So that for me is why like authenticity is my only like tenants that i have to hold onto that like if because if i'm out here lying than just being flippant with people's attention people's attention either have to go full in on the lie and which people would eat me up. It would make me feel physically. Ill i think because i feel guilty even when i'm trying my absolute best all the time. I think it's probably the catholicism in my. Yeah yeah there's some of that in mind too. But fortunately i went to church. Mostly spanish speaking church like understand about like only seventy percent of what we're supposed to. But i want to take it back to your initial question where it's just like you house at dealing with all that heart of what becomes i think an issue for for some people part of why..

"We're still doing this. You're still doing this again. Life outside of that there is no real like overwhelmingly negative or any real negative response to the work side. What what happened to me is just that realization. That work was a tool. If you will a way to to do or be something better because i never wanted to be on. Espn this is probably not something. Good to say Less than a year and know it's on. Espn like now but not have wanted when you started. Well i should probably rephrase it. It's not that. I didn't want it was just like maybe it was one of those self confidence confidence things i was like. Oh that's never going to be sure. Yeah it wasn't in your life plan. And so i'm like all right. I can be the sort of semi anonymous writer who is know. Only known in my hometown really But not really nationally or anything like that and just be successful there but yeah got the sort of espn and it was just like wow. This is this is also mike. This is other people sort of Validating you know me in my career and everything that i've done before that and You know giving me just some good feelings of just confident feelings just okay. I'm in this group of formation. Your reality was confirmed or whatever they say right. But i don't like it was never something where if you were to ask me. Hey all things being equal salary but whatever longevity what would you rather do. I'd probably rather right. I think it gives you a little a little bit more freedom in terms of what it is that you wanna get across like. I've never been somebody who thought anybody should care about me right. So it's not about me. I just want to talk about the subject The player the person that trend whatever And so i feel like Yeah i feel like. I've just recognized that it is such an important part of how people see me right. Because if there's a young you know gay or closeted person who is struggling with things. They don't look at me because i'm just a gay person. They look at me. Because i'm a gay person in sports media and it's just a rarity there and that's why you know again you to grow up loving sports man. They're not gonna look at me. If i saw right i like our disappointment. Like this guy happens to be the guy who represents and so so it mattered. More that i you know. Honestly i'm good at my job. I liked it and put effort into it and represented myself properly And then but the more fulfilling stuff is the other stuff is you know not just being able to every once in a while get a message across that people can are forced to think about not just like normalising bis because like i talk about my partner all the time i talk about. I'm an open book. I did a podcast. Basically blow for blow about my relationship and after david exe died and You know it. It doesn't matter to me what people know. And so that to me has become the most important thing is to be sort of a vessel vehicle. Something for people to connect with something for. Like if i want them to feel like they're sort of living vicariously through me because i am just one of you know. Brian likes to say just a kid from akron. Like i'm just doing this. Mike if you guys respect me great but you know If you wanna follow along. This is how i'm going through like this is how i'm going about it. I just did a a fan. Libertad gaz at the name of the by guest I was drinking a glass of wine. It was. I think my second is when i started the podcast. I was playing. I was in an online poker tournament at the same time. Okay and british cry twice in the all good you know what good tension of doing that going into none but it's just like If anybody wants to sort of be a part of this. While i'm going through a cool because like i'm pretty sure especially now that i can like everything has a lot more relatable to me. Just in terms of relationships are like love songs in terms of what movies and what people go through like. I get a lot more now and so just even though i still feel like the kid in terms of like professionally in media. I feel a lot more a veteran. When it comes to life yeah the game slows down as they say that it's all just starting to merge other and exactly this is the best part coming up for me in terms of just understanding things while you're going through it and you know hopefully people's want me around and i can be employed and stuff like a good way to process stuff is to experience it as you're experiencing it and not worry about how it looks when you're experiencing it one of the things that stood out to me when you came out and i correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think we had met yet. Because i wasn't that. Espn yet but we id. There may be met you at like. I knew of you obviously and respected. You and i remember reading was a blog post but yeah micro young. Not an yeah. I remember reading that in the thing that stood out to me was you saying and reassuring almost the reader that like if you like me so far. Everything else about me has been authentic. It's just been this one thing. I haven't felt comfortable being so. Please don't think finding this out about me. Is that like everything you know about me is ally and that stood out to me so much because i think it's the thing that like is struggle with his like making sure people know like look. I'm just a person. And this is the person that i am and like similar to what you were saying when you got your first job. My first job in sports media was on a television show with regis for fox sports. When they asked me to do it i was like. Do you want me to do it. I don't think i'm qualified to do this. But if you're gonna let me do it i'd love to. I remember feeling the pressure of pretending. I knew more than i knew. And i remember how freeing it was to like. Stop pretending and just say i don't know but here's what i think and helped me. If i need to know more information than i feel like i could almost hear in your writing that unburdening of like i have been me. It's so to hear that you were that. Not that old as in thirty one is really old and then coming up. Hopefully you said. I think thirty eight thirty seven. That's a long period of your life to have felt like a phony. And i just wonder how you cope with that. And how you release that. Because you weren't a phony you just were. I think you said something like you couldn't have acknowledged it back when you probably did know. You said he probably knew when you were younger but you can look at it yet because it would break you and it's like self care for you to have you needed to wait until you're ready to acknowledge it but i also know that must have caused this like inner torment for you will. This is something actually think it can sort of crossover into also race conversation. Just i think or the race. The race conversation is. I was fortunate that this is the phrase i'm talking about i could pass and so i didn't have to address it like i took that exit ramp and that was something like all right. I'm not faking this. I'm not putting on a voice. I'm not faking interest in sports. Like this is me and if you know if people aren't going to believe that.

"Is going to be presented. Well and they're probably going to be at least one or two historical nuggets. And i didn't know when i started listening to it but i never really feel like i'm being spoken down to or authorizing or anything like that so i know what i'm going to get their ad so if i look to you as a viewer or to me i don't i still don't want to be talked down to. I don't want to be told what to do. I just want your perspective. I just want a little bit to where. I don't have to get defensive. I can just so something in and even if it's not the same amount of detail Same amount of richness is something that bo will give you a just like you said it could mean something different to different person and whatever they can sort of download and take in and absorb without getting defensive without creating that filter where they're only gonna take in things that they want to take in or you know Then the mets all. That really matters like i think these days everybody's expected to have such a strong. Take that when you just have something that Sort of. I don't want to use his stupidly but i do i think to myself like i'm dumbing things down at least just simplifying for the moment because a lot of people may be are skipping steps and not realizing that. Hey this is what this is about all this crazy and so I think there's always a value to that and just the more genuine. You are the more like. I used to assume that things that i knew or happened to me that like we're just common knowledge. And sometimes it's not and so like a us hugh brown as an example as escorts example for what. I'm talking about just in general conversations like we're talking about whether it be race or anything serious because now that's seems like it's all we do I used to be. Brown is an example because huby somehow finds a way to explain the sport like you're talking to a five year old while not insulting. You know the fifty euro a fifty year nba veteran and then still giving that person a little something that may and does it. All you know concisely without taking over broadcast and so if you just offer this little nugget in this endless the tweets a response that. I've gotten just like you know what i didn't really think about it that way. Thanks for you know for saying that. Or whatever and it's yeah it's the most simplest arts. Yeah my favorite tweet is hearing somebody like quote something back to me. I said that to me was just like and that they were like. That's the words that. I've been looking forward to put to the feeling that i've had. And you're like whoa. I'm so glad. I could have given that to you because when you have that feeling when you're a consumer of media and you see somebody say something that you're like yes you know what that feels like so to give that back to people feel awesome and i imagine you have felt that the reward of this job other than you know the other awards monetary and otherwise More than a lot of other people i mean. I don't want to spend this whole podcast talking about you as a gay icon but You're a person of Note who came out publicly and that to me is a is a fascinating story because here you say will about you know when you were how you feel like a kid you were like some of this is just my self confidence issues to me. I can't imagine the confidence. It must take to take a step like that. And i kinda just want not to give you the journalists talk a little bit about that but i do just want to hear your perspective and what you learned about yourself in that. What i imagine was a very emotional and very intense time of your life it is fortunately and unfortunately something i like have to examine over and over again or am asked to examine over and over and i say fortunately because of like i'm still going through it i'm still you know working through whatever. It is a learning this part of my life because you know for thirty one years. That's when i came out to friends and family. When i was thirty one years old but not to the general public and was living my everyday life as an out gay person not until i was us twenty five i was thirty eight and so yes so it was some sort of you know going through that and like even now like this is mind blowing to sort of give a quick summary but at thirty one met somebody of was that would be only person i dated ever ended up living with that person getting married to that person divorcing that person that person has now died and so this is a whole like life in eight nine twelve years and not while you're in the public eye. You're not going through this quietly in your own house at your own pace great. It was really weird. I tell them. I've told this story a couple of times but just to show you where i was in terms of like what meant what value i provided. Or what like things should mean to me. that was when my ex and i like broke up it was basically a day or i caught him cheating on me. Found him cheating on mission se in the acts but just found proof that i was cheated on and we broke up and he tried to commit suicide like immediately mike izzy and so the eye the next day like literally having gone through an insane amount of things like literally saved his life by calling his friends to pick him up saving his life again because his friends left him in a car. And you probably would've is fixated if i didn't get there at the time and then two hours later. I'm i'm having this debate with myself. Because i'm supposed to be getting on a plane to chicago. I believe it was minneapolis for a game. And i'm asking myself you think they're gonna think i'm just some sort of drama filled at. Is this enough for me to ask for a day like You know in my mind. Like oh he's alive. You're okay okay. Get your asked to wherever you need to get to an you know when i called in and obviously they said it was okay but like that's that's just where i was at the time and yeah and that was that was after it coming out. You know that was after. I'd been married and everything and so like you would think that had this overwhelming you know confidence and learn from it but it's been it's been a lot i'd never really know where to start but i would say like in terms of just the job the career From literally one day to the next nothing changed like You know it was weird that around the horn had a bunch of my wedding pictures up and they celebrated that it was. You know it was weird that you know. I'd run into people in public and they would thank me for all these things that i've done and like a may be spent like thirty seconds talking about a subject on tv. I'm not sure what i've done done. But you know you're welcome. Guess and so the job itself. I think you know outside of the random moron. Will you know tweet something out to you or chase you down on instagram because I don't know they have their own insecurities wanna say bad things like hacks at this point..

"Hello folks these pick. It was these tech. But i stand by it. Welcome to sports. The podcast that ends of the question mark but usually start to the question. But it's thursday which means that. I'm joined by guest a friend of mine that i've met through the industry that i want you guys to know a little bit better today. That guests to me needs no introduction. You may know him. From around the horn you may have seen him on highly questionable. He's been reporting on the nba. For how many years many years for a whole bunch of years ladies and gentlemen. Today i'm joined by israel gutierrez high. Is he a katie. How are you makes me makes me very sort of old when i think about. How many years like covering the nba in some capacity for twenty one years. I need it sounds crazier than it looks like. I'm looking at you. I always hesitant to congratulate people on how long they've been working in the industry. Because sometimes as i am now thirty four you hear it as like you've been here for a while which is like i don't want it to feel that way but i do want like that is very impressive. That for twenty one years you've been covering nba. You know what's weird to as an i mean. We could do a deep dive into why i feel this way. But i've always i to this day. I still feel like the kit that cutter. Is it bad well so for me. I don't know for me early. On like i was the kid right like literally my first day at marlins as marlins beat writer because i got gotten the palm beach post job right out of school like they called me to hire me like a month before i graduated. Sounds like an out of school job. The pa i'm a reporter at the palm. Beach post slow. Interestingly enough like at the time that was a you know it's still is because there's only three of them like the top three newspaper in florida. That was miami herald South florida sunset on the palm beach post and to have a job period at what at the time. Nineteen ninety nine going into two thousand But to have a job in your hometown because it's close enough to miami where. I grew up in where my parents and family lived And to have it before actually graduated was all just amazing. Was something that you wanted to do. Not in like some boring right right. 'cause i had friends Buddy robbie niece longer who may or may not listen to this who knows He got a jar and saw right. I was like ooh. Hopefully you just go there and get out right. He still there. I say oh i think he's at the same paper. He's moved on from sports but like he's still in arkansas. Maybe yeah and he does got kids and a wife but that first job created his life for him. Yeah i first. Jobs was brought me back to my hometown. Which i was super happy about but i remember the first day so i was there for like three weeks and they were still looking for. Marlins reporter Because dan graziano who now with us and gone to the newark star-ledger and we and so they'd gone through some resumes and didn't really like anybody and then they just kind of offered me the marlins beat job and i'm like what i've been out of school for like three weeks. Are you sure about this. And i didn't even love baseball. I liked it enough right. Because i was marlins fan in my childhood having watched them win a world series twice or once a at this by this point and Some of course and my first day on the job david bryant was been in atlanta for a while now but he covered the marlins for the sentinel he said. How are you. And i said twenty two and he goes jeez whatever happened to paying your dues and allies like health. Well i guess. I'm just going to hear this for the rest of my time. Thought i've always felt like that throughout the early portions. But even as i've grown to more like a veteran or like paid my actual dues or like got some sort of track record or respect or whatever like i've always felt like i haven't been met person or that guy always the new person on board and i mean a lot of that just has to do with my own self confidence issues and everything else but it's a really weird feeling. I can't shake it. Like i do shows with you at pablo and meena and i feel like the kid in the group. Oh and i. I look at that as the opposite. I'm like i do shows with you. And i'm like oh when is here. I have to be on best behavior because he does not have to put up with my bs because he has been doing this for a long time and is very very good at doing this. In the way that it's meant to be done. And then i come in. And i'm like i don't really do it that way but i don't really know what i do so i always feel like all right. Get your together because you're on with izzy tomorrow so i don't know if that helps the way you feel or provides any context to me. You're the guy that i'm like. Oh goodness okay. Don't joke around too much because this is somebody's job that you're just at goofing off over easy but i don't even believe you like absolutely insane to think about because i mean that's exactly what i think will age you in particular like back. When dan is i was like jesus. I have to live up to like to to be sitting next to dan. I have to have something in there. Some sort of nugget. Some sort of like thing that maybe even. Dan didn't think about think about that. Like you try to come up with something that dan who like usually shocks the world. Everything unique need anything about right like let me try to think of something. He wouldn't have thought about. That's the worst possible way to do your job in. That's how i feel when we do a race topic. And i'm on with bomani. I'm like what do you want me to add to this conversation. It's the hardest thing about. Hq is when you get these topics. You're like well mon with somebody who knows much more than i do about this. What am i possibly going to add in. It's the thing. I've leaned into in this last year of like mom just going to say what my perspective is and maybe that will help somebody get closer to understanding somebody else's perspective. All i can add is what i have in my cupboard. It's not much it's rather bare but maybe the spice brought out something that nobody noticed before. We'll that's the whole point to me. I think is is that like Depending on how much you know when you listen to us right. So let's just say it's medium like if i'm a listener or viewer like i know i'm going to want to hear what bomani has to say because i know it's ridiculously well..

"Sixty four if you're listening to siriusxm line and that our website steve dot com feels like we just left. Had early morning Conversation with their. And rogers and we were we. Were kind of laughing. You you wouldn't think it would. It would feel so different. But it really. It really did. With the september and a short turnaround and darren where we'll talk to on wednesday the invocation as we always enjoy but darren explained. It's you know it's a very very short seven months Since coming here and the fact that we're back for the full fortnight for me feels that a lot of ways. That's the way i can feel normal about about derby and will be here for the next two weeks and as always we talk about thirty hours worth of Opportunity to build up for derby and for oaks. And that's what we'll do. We'll wait into the action. Of course you know the first couple of days here if sort of setting the scene and getting a handle on what we can expect heading into the full fledged derby weekend and of course opening Here on saturday and that will start to come to the fore as well and you know so many so many of the opportunities social type opportunities that will be maybe limited to some degree by restrictions and by distancing and so forth but It it really does have all the trappings as as we get started and knowing that they'll be they'll be attendance and that they'll be patrons Thronging the place to some degree Makes it feel exit. Feel good to be to be honest. And i'll tell you what else to make you feel good i. I tweeted about it myself. Literally minutes after saturday's apple blossom it's so satisfying when you get a race and you know even though the showdown as it were and the throwdown even though it wasn't the two horses most anticipated when it came to motto girl and skydiver the fact that lotrowska as kind of advertised and projected. This was not. This was not hard to imagine the way it it ended up unfolding but when it comes to entertaining and unsure result and the way. In which a race can you can enthrall and captivate. It did everything you could have wanted it to do. And of course the participants in defeat it it a lot of ways it enhances you know everything about them. Certainly swiss skydiver has been moved around enough and has taken on big joe judge's so you know there's no there's no debt in her fender other than you know just a a third place finish in grade one where you know. She didn't have the most ideal positioning. I'm sure if robbie alvarado had over again he would have gotten her out earlier so that she had more room to operate winning. Just wasn't she just was not as sharp as as she can be. And and certainly the win in the beholder mile. You know that that. That was a good way to wade into the year. But it wasn't against the competition. She was dealing with on saturday. And of course you know for monoploy girl i. It looked midstretch like she was getting the measure of larussa only four baratz teas and the super saver to re engage her and get her shoulder in front and win. And we're going to talk too fast. Oh gutierrez either after the first break or maybe you know depending on whether even take the first break early decision they it was a nose but it there. There was no doubt it yet. I saw described as head bobbing there were. There was no head bobbing the truce. The truce could have regained the lead and was maintaining period and beater on the square And let's be you know for those that understand or consider wait absolutely in receipt of six pounds that that that can't be denied But the two of them ram career-best figures and turned in. I guess i guess technically montemar girl. It added she'd she'd run a she'd run i think yeah she'd run a one four in the ruffy and last year. But they both come back with one o twos and for fausto gutierrez. Who's going to join us. As i said he. This is so special for him. And the saint george stable owner and breeder and major major player in mexico german. Laura for mr lereah a and for gets yeras who has been really successful Top top trainer in mexico for him. This was just so special and you could see how moved and thrilled and almost overwhelmed. He was by this victory. A million dollar. I a north american grade one and this mayor you know. She's a five year old mare and she was a may fall as it happens She just it has gotten better consistently and is obviously a stout hard trying type This was a fabulous. Just it was just a fabulous race. And it'll i imagine as i suggested had to reinvigorate your appreciation for for the game you know because a lot of times we anticipate the you know certain spots in certain certain races and it doesn't really you know they don't live up. This lived up. This lived up in fact may have even exceeded In a way because it it annoyance annoys a new star. Really right in larousse go back but the the suggestions by people that this was somehow you know th the somehow.

"The warriors drafted Chiquita Evans into the NBA to k-league making her the first female pro in the NBA's e sports league Ajax Amsterdam defeated the three time defending champion Real Madrid on aggregate to advance to the Champions League quarterfinal lingo. I x I like to say Ajax 'cause I've never heard before that good middle name. I x and excel people are nominating. Izzy XL Gutierrez. And finally, the Brazilian wax was actually invented in New York. What's that for all the latest headlines and information into sports center on ESPN radio all throughout the day? You not know what a Brazilian waxes getting. I do. Okay. Chris, Cody, I want to applaud you and also feel great pity for you right now. There's some funny conversations taking place around here. I wanna get some of Idi. Good is good ears. As basketball thoughts. He was at the Portland that crazy Portland thrown Toronto basketball game. But before we do that I've overheard several funny conversations one of them was ROY saying. Yeah, I lied to Chris about his hair. He was worried about his hair. I lied about his hair, Chris, and I don't think it's possible for you to look worse on television than the way that that box, framed your hair island. Thanks, guys. But yeah, I asked ROY right before we went I'm like ROY the hairline. I know. I don't have trust me. I know the hairline in general, not good. But I was like ROY look decent right now. Are we okay? And he's like after somebody take pity on your boater, Mike. What were you hearing back there that that made you feel bad for Chris, Cody redeemed, Assad and said? Oof. You really need to keep that hat that glean I should have loved to have. Because the story that Christo Cody just told it was different for as I heard it because the interaction that I heard was a lot funnier. Which is Chris Cody asking ROY house my hairline and ROY responding. Yes. It is there. All right. So Chris, you're honest appraisal. Now that everything you were worried about with your hair is been on national television as the Fisher punishment for you heckling VJ Singh at the Honda Classic. How do you feel about the entire experience? Well, I have regret about a lot of stuff at the Honda Classic. But as far as today. As far as today. I feel like I made it all pretty easy with the tomatoes. We had some inaccurate throwers down there. If I went down there if I was throwing thorn at myself might have been a little more messy. This was a bit of an inception game. Because the real shame was not the tomatoes. It turned out. It was you just merely taking your hat off. And then. It. Same thing happened to you and Adam gates where like your entire identity gets stripped down the moment, you take the baseball cap on. I don't think it worked. Shame people loved him down. There. People were cheering them on. They're taking pictures with him after it was happening. There was no less than eight people recording this on their camera phones. Like, this was a big deal for Chris. They had no Hato had no idea who I was like, oh, there's people around here. This seems like something that's thing. Let's just take a picture with this guy. Welcome to the kind of fame.
