"The spurs I assume are in your easiest calls. That's correct. Let's transition then to easiest calls and sell me on what I presume is a spurs over because the line is so low and you're gonna tell me that pop is gonna squeeze every ounce out of this group where I guess Trey Jones is the only traditional point guard on the roster and we're gonna see a lot of point primo going on would sell me on how that is gonna work offensively. I mean, I love the cell, Kelvin Johnson just rampaging to the rim, shot to three pretty well the last couple of years love him. But the lack of a primary creator, I feel any faith that makes me wanna actually go under despite the fact that this line is so abysmally low. So sell me KP. Yeah, I mean, I think that in San Antonio's desire to have the number one pick this year, probably the two reasons that this low. I mean, the cell starts, like I said, with the stat about teams that have totals that low actually tend to go over the comfortable majority of the time that there's something about this that, you know, the market isn't quite able to correct assess correctly, even though we know some team is going to win 20 games. It's probably going to be a team that has a lot of injuries, not necessarily whoever projects is the worst on paper. And I don't think San Antonio has the least talent in the league. They have maybe the least exciting talent because kelton Johnson and Jacob Bertel, those aren't guys who are going to be developing into all stars down the line the way that we hope that Houston's young players are going to do or Detroit's Oklahoma cities. But today other than shake Gilbert's Alexander, those guys are better than the players on those teams. And unless they just don't play a lot of minutes, I think they're going to be okay. The other piece of this is, Trader Joe's actually played pretty well last season as a starter for them down the stretch. I don't think he's obviously one of the weaker starting point guards in the league, but I think it's the lack of a point guard besides him that's the issue more than trade Jones himself. Fair. I tip my cap. A starting 5 with the cell, Kelvin Johnson, and Jacob pearl shooting 30% from the line, but let's just leave that aside. I mean, that's like your 60% of the way towards what we will call a competent NBA starting 5. Maybe Trey Jones is one of the other two, maybe Josh primo is along with trade Jones or separately, maybe so hand the kid from the kid they just drafted to do everyone says I'm gonna love a fascinating thing about sohan. I didn't see their game yesterday, but I saw the highlights and he seems to be leaning totally into the Dennis Rodman comparison in terms of hair color. He's wearing number ten for the spurs, and also seems to be wearing shorts the same size as Dennis Rodman's were in 1995. I'm all for everything you just said. I'm all the spurs are gonna win 35 games. I'm in. They're gonna fail to tank. They're too good. That's it. Okay, give me another one of your easy calls. Well, I also had in here another team you mentioned in that group. The Indiana Pacers at 23 and a half also isn't over. Last season, they won 25 games, and I think that's a big reason that they're total was so low as people are looking at this as saying, well, they're not as good as they were last year. We got to subtract from where they were last year. But their Pythagorean record was actually a much more respectable 32 and 50. So in terms of caliber of play, they've got more room to go down to 20. First it might be the first Pythagoras, the Greek, the Greek mathematician, Pythagoras. Yeah, I believe so, yeah. On this pocket, what's the Pythagorean triangle? Is that the same as the three, four, 5 triangle? That is an example. I mean, old triangles, I think are all right triangles. Yeah, let's try and go Pythagorean. Yeah, I think. Boy oh boy. I just know, you know what I know about math now in the year 2023 removed from getting a three on my AP calculus exam in 1995, a test that I bombed so badly. I just drew a picture for one of the answers because my case of senioritis was so severe. The word isosceles is really, really fun. I saw Solis, good word. Good word. I would agree with you. Also, vertical angles are congruent is just a critical step in any geometric proof. I still think about vertical angles are congruent. Okay, what can we talk about the pacers? This is a case of just if they trade healed and Turner or one of them, I just think they're going to be terrible. I mean, they just don't have a lot of, I mean, I love Halliburton. He's going to be in my 5 most intriguing players column. How early they trade one of those guys? Because if it's February, that just can't have that much effect on your record, whereas if it's December 15th, it can do a lot more. Look, whether they're really bad, kind of bad, unwatchable, bad. They're going to be bad. So that's great. You went over on the pacers. You've predicted them to win between 24 and 28 games. Congratulations, grow the corn, awesome pacers win. Let's go, can you pick an interesting team now? Apologies to the pacers. Again, tyreese, I just talked to Rick Carlisle three hours ago about tyrese Halliburton. He's going to be in a column next week or whatever it's coming out. Interested in the pacers just not right now. Before the geometry teachers come after me, it's a right triangle that the Pythagorean theorem applies to. It's strictly right triangles. I did have that somewhere deep in the recesses of my brain. Well, I think there's a couple of these that are probably on both of our lists. And I guess let's go with the Toronto Raptors, a line of 45 and a half wins. Bang thee over. I couldn't throw my loonies in my Tunis. My fake loonies and toonies on that one enough, I just I frankly just don't understand how it's 45 and a half. The raptors want 48 games last year. I think there were 18th in offense in 9th on defense. They gradually ascended to become the kind of defense just hellacious, switching, mean, taking the ball from you like a schoolyard bully, you know, winning the turnover battle game, winning the offensive rebounding game on the other end to overall win the possession, just nasty.

"Not all getting caught up in this. Speaking of the next, Donovan Mitchell, his trade market appears to be expanding, not what Knicks fans want to hear. Nick spans want to hear the deal is done and Donovan Mitchell's going to New York, but it sounds like what's going on is the jazz are, they've had conversations with the Knicks. They know what the Knicks are offering, have a pretty good feel of what that offers at. And now they're going to go check around the rest of the league and see what the rest of the league will give them in a deal for Donovan Mitchell. I still think ultimately he winds up in New York, but any angel co, we're going to make the next wait a little bit and see what they can get. You know, probably going to be a pretty decent return for Mitchell. So we'll see where that ultimately winds up. But it's possible. I mean, another team could come in and offer something that just can't quite match and next thing you know, Donovan Mitchell is off somewhere else, but I still think the Knicks have got to be the favorite here. Yeah, I think it probably is too. And I think this is probably a little bit of the jazz come back with, hey, here's what we have for other offers. You want to add to it. I'm going to go off topic just slightly here because it's related to this. Where I saw this news was through a woj thing on YouTube. And it's like, man, I can already follow Twitter and watch NBA today. Montreal is like, I got to now go find you on YouTube too. Like, come on, stay off our corner. Let us have this little corner here. You just tweet and write stuff. But that's just me being a gripe of being old and not wanting to have to continue to open more tabs in my browser. But anyway, I think what he's saying makes sense, right? When the Knicks are being asked for, we want top in and Grimes and quickly, and then we also want 6 first round picks and all that stuff. The next are like, we're going to take either a couple players or a couple picks out. You've got to make up your mind. We're not giving it at all. And I think the jazz are looking at it and saying, well, hey, the 6 first round picks. A couple of those are pretty heavily protected picks from the pistons and wizards. That may not convey for years. When they do, convey, they're going to be non lottery, like where are we going with this? So that's going to ultimately be the back and forth, right, is how many kids do the next want to give up and how many picks. And then my guess is like you, I think it'll still ultimately be the next. And they'll budge and give in on something. But we'll see. I mean, this is going to be the way this goes back and forth. And in the meantime, yeah, maybe some surprise team does jump in there and say, hey, we'll snagged on of a Mitchell now because we still young enough to fit with a lot of teams that are kind of on the way back up. And he's obviously good enough to fit with a team. That's trying to go for it. So yeah, I mean, there should be a pretty wide market for him. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And again, I think this is part of the process, but we'll keep an eye on exactly where he winds up by still think the Knicks are in the lead. The spurs did a little bit of business, keeping kelton Johnson four years, 80 million for him. Solid player, young player two for a rebuilding team to hang on to. What do you think about them spending this money though? Is this good value? Do you think for the spurs for a team that's trying to turn things around here, potentially build for the future? 20 million average annual value for kelton Johnson is an absolute steal. All right. I think this guy is awesome. Last year, he averaged almost, it was over 17 points per game. He was at really good shooting splits. He's good with the ball on his hands. That's probably where he's come to furthest. Pretty good spot up shooter two. Defends, he can rebound his passing is coming along pretty quickly. I think this year he kind of becomes a face of that team, moving forward in all of a sudden we're looking at it as like, man, remember when the spurs got Derek white on a really good deal, then Dijon Marian a really good deal. I think a year or two from now we're like, man, they have Kelvin Johnson on a really good deal because I just think this guy is fantastic. So I think this is a huge win for San Antonio. All right, so nice move there for the spurs to be able to get him on this deal. We also saw the jazz made a move, Simone, fontecchio, winds up with the jazz. This was a guy who we were starting to get these little rumors that he was going to be coming to the NBA, but it wasn't quite clear where exactly he was going to wind up. Got some size can shoot the three a bit as the ability to attack off the bounce. Not the quickest. But I think the jazz of God something here in him that could prove to be pretty useful, particularly as they look to build into the next phase of their franchise. What are your thoughts on this move? This is Danny age repeating his Boston rebuild playbook. A little bit here. He went to after making all the trades. With the nets and then starting that whole cycle of tearing down the roster all the way and rebuilding it, one of the things he did was he went to Europe and he got guys like Brad wanamaker, Shane Larkin, fill pressy. And then Daniel tice was probably his biggest success that he got to come over. A couple of years of it. I think he's starting the process here again. And they're under the tax. This is part of the non taxpayer mid level for fund techy on a two year deal. My guess is the team's probably pretty protected on that second year. But if not, it's not going to be that much money anyway. I think it's total, it's a little over 6 million. So talking 3 million each of the each year or so. So yeah, I think this is what works. And I think he's going back to it and basically saying, all right, let's run back what I know has worked for me in the past. Let's get this guy in. Give him a look. There's probably going to be plenty of minutes available, and we'll see where it goes from there. Indeed, is the hiring platform where you can attract interview and hire all in one place. "There have been solid with those two guys together. Jackson age does enough stuff as a cutter around the rim and a dump off guy that he's super dangerous despite the spacing issues. CJ has been great. BI has been really good when he's been healthy. After an adjustment period with CJ, I do think there are some interesting matchups in this game if assuming the spurs have everybody. I think you'll see a lot of the cell on CJ McCollum, which is kind of a fun matchup and a fun test for a really interesting second year player. Josh Richardson has also gotten the CJ McConnell match up quite a bit. And on the other end, I think we're going to see not on herb, not on herb, guarding Dijon Murray, who has morphed into an all star this year in just an ace long two jump shot maker. The boards are a key in one game, anything can happen, but these are two of the top ten offensive rebounding teams in the league. The spurs offensive rebound. Look at that. I think they're 8th in offensive rebounding. The pelicans are a great defensive rebounding team. The spurs are 24th. So are the pelicans? Can they generate 8 extra points? 6 extra points on offensive rebounding. That can be kind of the difference in this in a one game take all like this. My gut, I just think the pelicans, they just have more pure kind of capital T talent on hand when they have both McCollum and Ingram just more kind of explosiveness to them than the spurs who are faster and more explosive than they have been in the past and killed in Johnson's been rampaging for the last couple of months and all that. I just kind of think the pelicans have a little bit more firepower, but and a little bit more at stake. And I don't know if the players feel that, but they do need to win this game. The pelicans is an organization really need to win this game. I just think the firepower they have will carry them through by a little bit, but it would not surprise me if the spurs won. Yeah, you know, it's funny. I have the least amount of confidence on this game of the over four about what it's actually going to look like. I've been enjoying the Kelvin Johnson sort of experience lately. And I never loved him as a one on one player. Like yes, he's strong and he can use that strength to get to the hoop, but like so could Stanley Johnson in his first few years and I was sort of not a Kelvin Johnson guy and like all the sudden. Okay, maybe his dribble game isn't deceptive enough. It doesn't matter, but he's become this really nice complimentary piece against a catch and shoot player. He gives the spurs a lot of structure. He's asked to do a lot kind of now as a essentially as a four man for all practical purposes, and that's what he is. It'll be fun to see how one of these, hey, we're not going big and you're not going small. Let's see how it plays out with possibly gets haze. But I really enjoyed, you know, Johnson and pearls kind of interesting. He's one of these skills not stretch bigs. And they did a really nice job in the first couple of matchups against New Orleans. With turtle in the short roll game, right? And you got to make Valentine's defend a little bit in space. You know, they even use Kelvin Johnson in that capacity with pearl in a couple of the march games to that effect. So I mean, that was sort of something you think. I mean, San Antonio will come up with a few things that are clearly, you know, that will work that give them an advantage against as you say, better talent, but I don't have a huge feel, even though these teams both played in each other in March about what it's going to look like apart from that. But yeah, I mean, it's been fun to kind of get to know the spurs, a little bit again, as kind of knowing, we're going to have to talk about them and sort of watching them and obviously Dijon has just become just an incredibly creative player. With defensive capacity, just can change the game as a defender a bit. Wasn't on my ballot this year, but I do think that, again, it also, it gives them a fighting chance behind them. They're not a great defensive team, but he is great against the point of attack. He's a great weak side. Guard defender because he can just come so quick. It'll be a fun game. Again, I don't want to insult the good people of New Orleans and San Antonio. This is my least interesting game. And it's a very interesting game. Agreed. I think disperse are playing pretty well. The pelicans are playing pretty well when they have everybody. Match up, it's kind of interesting. It's two teams that don't shoot a lot of threes, but the pelicans have kind of more of that variance explosion to them than the spurs do. The spurs, of course, give up no threes at all. That's just a Popovich constant. I'm picking the pelicans their home. I just think they're more explosive and that lineup has been working well. And they found their bench is kind of stabilized with Jose alvarado. I don't know how much Trey Murphy will play. I like Trey Murphy. I think that kid's got a chance to be really good as a complimentary wing player and has had a couple of big games a couple of exclusive games, but a couple of big games down the stretch and the pelicans have been playing like for their lives for a long time here. I'm gonna take them, which means I've taken all the home teams, I guess, and which would give us the nets is the 7, so we are pretty, here's what my predictions and I think we got all the same predictions. I'm with you on everything. Give us the nets as the nets is the 7th seed facing the Celtics, the wolves, as the 7 seed facing the grizzlies, that would be awesome. Just that's my series. I'm going to Memphis, by the way. I'm Memphis. Two of the loudest, two of the loudest trash talker talking teams in the league. One of them is backed it up with tons of wins. The other I was watching, I think I was watching, I was watching spurs warriors on Saturday night because I wanted to see, I chose that game, I want to see how draymond was like, I knew both teams set tons of guys. Draymond looked great by the way. He looks like draymond again. And the spurs announcers were having a little aside about the play in and this and that. And I think it was Bill land, the play by play, guys said, you know, the wolves, the wolves act like they've actually won something in this league. And I think that's the kind of like, that's how people think of the wolves and their trash talk, which got most of the attention when they just humiliated Russell Westbrook and the Lakers. Just as this team that's a little too big for their britches, like Memphis, the britches fit, 'cause when you win 55 plus games, talk your talk. Like you back it up every game. There's this sense that the wolves are a little too little too yappy, a little too loud. I kind of like it. I kind of like that for the wolves. I kind of think they should lean into that. And then we would get clippers, pills for the 8th seed and hawks calves for the 8th seed and I would probably pick the home team. But I would probably pick the clippers and the hawks and those games respectfully Cleveland would be at home. I misspoke there. So that's where we are. I guess we'll see starting tomorrow. We get the first two playing games. Playing week, they made a whole week out of this. If you make the playoffs now, you get like a week off. It's actually kind of another added bonus to being in the top 6, you get a week to rest and recuperate, which for the Mavs, as we mentioned earlier, that could be huge. I'm very excited about either outcome in the clipper Timberwolves game. Because I have been assigned to Memphis, I fly there on Thursday. And if I get the Timberwolves then I'm going to be writing a lot of really fun news or about all just the bile that is on the floor directed at one another and that could be fun and also be fun to kind of see that sentence.

"That's been, I mean, that's been part of the conversation here. And I get there's that frustration. But I also think we can't look at Anthony Davis as. Oh, he's just not that good. You're talking about a very high bar to clear. Oh, he's not quite on the same level as Giannis, so he's not quite on the same level as jokic. You're talking about the reigning MVP and the former MVP. That is pretty rare company. So I think AD probably catches a little bit too much flak. Is some criticism reserved? Yes, but let's not act like the guy is not an incredible talent. Yeah. Absolutely for sure. All right guys, let's are we just at a point where the masked I'm going to be going to the mass a lot. We had a point where it's just the season. No, I'm going to master lock the narrative. I'm going to master lock the narrative and by the narrative I mean the way games are playing out. The path we take to get through a Lakers game, and that seems to be we've seen this play out so many times. The Lakers are kind of close throughout the game. They get a little bit of a lead, but they never put anybody away, and then in crunch time in the fourth quarter, they fumble things away. So I'm going to master lock that script and hope that we can somehow get rid of that because that just adds insult to injury. That makes it hurt all that much worse when the Lakers lose because they're not getting blown out there right there, and then they just find ways to not execute down the stretch. So I think that that game script has to be master locked. I'll take it a step further. I think you kind of set at the end. D execution down the stretch. It's every single time. Every single game, the Lakers. When they face teams, even the bad teams you find more often, the bad teams know how to execute, or at least they know what kind of shots they want or what looks they want to generate down the stretch. The Lakers, they just have no clue what they want to do down the stretch of games. And again, the nuggets after Stanley Johnson hit three to tie it, then I get literally ran the same play three straight possessions and got three straight, easy looks. One over three wild with three layup on the switch. Not great. Not great. Certainly, master lock, worthy. Spurs are resting starters. Yeah, they did last game when they played the blazers as well though. It didn't matter. They are? Yeah, well, I mean, they've got some injuries and stuff like that. But they handled the blazers easily, even without those guys. So this just don't win. They have Kelvin Johnson, demo of a cell plan. Yeah, they should be okay. Love said, if the warriors decide to give you wise men, Wiggins, Jordan Poole, two first round picks for LeBron. You're not turning that down. I think they turn it down if LeBron says I want to stay. And also I'm not sure going on stage trading all of that. I mean, if that's the deal goal and city offers me then and LeBron wants to leave, then sure, but I don't think I don't think Golden State's gonna offer that. Yeah, 'cause that's a lot. That's a lot. All right. John Roberts and Dow just really just they don't have a base offense. They don't have that personality. All right, everybody, let's wrap things up from here. Appreciate all of you. I'll be joining us today after this game. Again, it's been a tough season. It's been a long season. Real ones you've been with here for the long haul. We will be here for the remainder of the season. "Augustine, three O four from DP continues to light it up from behind the arc for your Los Angeles Lakers. So that was something there. Sean Tate, do you believe the Lakers will make the play and right now it is less likely that they will make the plan than likely. So let's say if we're looking at the Lakers schedule and you're looking at the spur schedule, both have really different difficult schedules down the stretch. The Lakers have two games where you'd look at it and say, okay, they probably have a pretty good shot of winning those games. And that's the pelicans game tomorrow night. And the thunder game, the second to last game of the season. Those are the two games that stand out on the schedule for the Lakers. The spurs have two games as well. Two games against the blazers. Those are kind of give me wins at this point because the blazers aren't really playing anybody. They don't really have much of a team anymore. They've had so many injuries, so many guys out for the year. So if that's the case, if the spurs win their two games against the blazers and the Lakers only win the two games against the pelicans and against the thunder, that's it. Lakers are out. Lakers are out. That's how it goes. And the Lakers they have to win one more game than the spurs. And so because of that, I could see them not making it. I also saw a spurs team that was really competing really, really competing, really getting after it. And they almost beat the grizzlies last night. I think grizzly's without John morant, but still, we've seen that team be successful. The Lakers got very, very lucky. The spurs Kelvin Johnson missed a layup at the buzzer to beat the grizzlies last night, otherwise that would have really put the Lakers into tough spot, had the spurs managed to get an upset win over the grizzlies, but the spurs, the way they're playing right now, they're playing like they want in the plane and they really want to knock the Lakers out. So if the spurs managed to pull off an upset win here or there, even just one. I think that's going to make it very, very unlikely that the Lakers do make it in. Abdullah Ali said, is there any way we can get Gary Trent junior next year?.

"Talent. Absolutely. I dejante is probably like my favorite player in the whole league. I like Kelvin Johnson. I left out Kelvin too, my goodness, Jesus. It's a team with a lot of young talent. There's no question about that. Right. And it looks like they're not going to make the plan this year. And that should be, you know, they traded, it's just the direction that they're headed. And they traded Derek white to the Celtics for a first round pick. They traded that young. I think he was the oldest player in the roster for a first round pick. They couldn't not look good in Toronto so far, by the way, there's neither hand or there. But anyway, go ahead. He's looked, I don't know if you've got like their possessions where he just plays point guard, and they're enjoyable. They're an adventure, I guess is the best way to put it. I don't know. Yeah. That probably is the best way, because I look at some of them. I'm like, I've watched the last couple of years and I thought it'd be a little bit more. Yeah, just interesting, by the way, to put it. I'm going to give them more time before I really judge it. But anyway, go ahead. I'm sorry. But yeah, no, but yeah, so I mean, they're just clearly trying to get first round picks. And they did that. They're not good. They're going to have their own pick, which could be the, I think they have the 7th worst record in the league right now. A game behind the kings, a team that they lost to last night. So yeah, we'll see how it's basically like you got to play the lottery if you're San Antonio. And I think you definitely keep Dijon day as long as possible. Hopefully for honestly, his entire career. I think that that's a franchise point guard. You can certainly build around. He can play with a lot of different types of players, makes those around him better, plays both ends. But it's just fundamentally good to see the spurs, their posture at the trade deadline to actually get assets that'll help you in the future and to kind of acknowledge where you are as an organization. I think is great. If I was a person with the mix should have done something with the Lakers should have done. Sorry. Anyway, go ahead. I'm interrupting you too much. Go ahead. No, no, no. But yeah, you're exactly exactly spot on. So, you know, I like watching Zach Collins on the court again. It's fun to see him play again. I would have probably been even more aggressive though if I were San Antonio at the deadline, I would have probably moved on from someone like Doug McDermott, seeing what I can get from him if I can get a conditional first with that young. What can I get for Doug McDermott playing pretty well this year. But you can't get rid of every single veteran and I understand that. So I guess we'll just see where what happens. I would love for San Antonio to get a top 5 pick in this draft. Maybe even higher than that. There's some really interesting prospects from everything I read and see. I'm not actually watching college basketball, but there seem to be franchise altering players and names and for one of them to go to San Antonio..

"But it's like sort of the plague's much longer as well as it really helps. Kate has like a 7 foot wingspan, RJ has like a 6 8 wingspan, something like that. But with his build and size, he is someone who you would think would be able to physical his way to decent finishing. And that's something that has not really come along either. Well yeah, it's like it's the touch through contact that he doesn't like have. It seems like. Yeah. Again, though, like, do I really like RJ Barrett has been like a fucking workhorse though? Like throughout the course of his career so far. Like he doesn't really miss games, like he's tough. He his body takes the wear and tear. He's much younger than Deandre hunter. I don't know. How sad is it for this draft that we're at for? And we're like, hey, he's an innings eater. See, this is what I said, though, like, from the jump, I was like, I got to four, and I was like, I don't know. Like, do you bet on Matisse, figuring out how to shoot? This is the first bomb when I really considered Matisse. I also considered Tyler hero here. But like do we trust Tyler hero to hold up defensively in the playoffs? I don't know. I guess he's held up enough for them to get to the finals as a rookie, right? Do we trust? Do we also trust him as a consistent tough shot maker? Again, for a guy who doesn't get the basket doesn't get easy points. You know, that's sort of a tough profile. If you can do that and be efficient, it's really good. It's really hard. And it takes a lot of it takes a lot of it's a skeptical of because it's like when it's working, it looks great. Everyone thinks it's awesome. And then you look at the numbers, and this year is making every shot. So it looks great, but it's like the height of this is like Donovan Mitchell, who seems like he shot the crap out of the ball this year. And this is his first year where he's above league average efficiency. That's only barely. So it's like, that's the diet you're trying to live on. That's a tough diet. But it really is. Did you consider kelton Johnson here? Like he was my last guy that like I really can't flew into those I'll be honest, I don't totally get it with Kelvin Johnson. So no, I didn't consider him there. Like, I don't know. I think a lot of what you said about RJ so his best stuff is sort of that dependability kind of thing. And ideally, I'd be looking for more at this point in the draft, but there just might not be unless you're willing to get wild and like no, like Daniel gafford is going to be Clint capella, which is kind of why I threw them through the name out there, you know?.

"Like what the hawks have done where they have so many capable wings that they can throw at you and I think that's when it was a big key to their success last year. Obviously everyone's gonna struggle with this year, but yeah, I'm gonna go cam reddish here. I like it a lot. Yeah, he's shooting under 30% on mid range jumpers and nearly 40% on threes. So I think the thing for him is and this is a lot to say about the system and the situation that he's in and it's like, it's not the easiest thing in the world to get a rhythm as an offensive player and particularly as someone who's asked to score on that team right now. There's so many mouths to feed and the guy who sets the table is their leading score and one of the highest scorers in the entire league. So it's just a difficult situation he's making the most of it. The athleticism and the upside and I would not, man, it's tough 'cause everyone talks about how they need to trade one of these guys, cam, hunter, they already signed her, and I wouldn't want to trade any of them. I'm just like, I don't want to take that chance either. I don't want to take that chance either. I'm with you. I'm riding it out with those guys for as long as I can. So that's just going to be really interesting. I do want to tell a quick camera story. I don't think I have on the pod. But an extremely quiet him and Deandre hunter, both from Philly, best friends on the team, super quiet, except when they talk to each other is what I was told by everybody. And when I spoke to cam, he was very quiet. I asked him a certain question that I don't believe I can share on the pod unfortunately, but their PR guy told me that he had never heard cam as loud responding to my question in all of his time around him. So that was fun. I got a rise out of him. All good natured, but he got very excited when I asked him a certain question about the great story to hear with absolutely zero context or details. I know. I'm sorry. Thank you for that. I try to give what I can, you know? That's what I try to do. Okay, so I'm up with sometimes it's sometimes it's better not to give it all, you know? It's all just exactly. You understand. Yeah. Okay. This is, okay, I'm looking at the pool here. I'm really nervous that we're just gonna totally whip on somebody. Looking at the pool or looking at pool. Oh, touche. I mean, both to be honest with you. I'm considering that. I also, like, I would have maybe I have Kelvin Johnson, but he's kind of down on my board, not because I don't like him, but yeah, we're definitely gonna miss someone and some fan base is gonna hate us forever. So that'll be fun. Man, I know who you wanna take at number 11. You do. Yeah. There's someone I wanna take, but I'm not taking them yet. I'll tell you that right now..

"I think I had an honorable mention was the Avery Bradley Balkan, I believe Kelvin Johnson. I think in the first quarter, came over the weak side, rotated over Matt Johnson at the rim stuffed him completely. So now again, the inverse is also true. When you see big guys doing guard stuff, when you see going through big guy stuff, that's all Josh hart. Defending bigs in the post. Josh hart is an immovable guy. You know, this is a deep, deep cut, but David west talked about how he knew he needed to retire with Josh hart on the retired David west. That was epic. He was the catalyst. Yo from YouTube said Sekou is literally in our system and right under our noses, LOL, NBA experience in young legs. Don't think Vogel would do that, though. So secret Dubois, yes, in theory, 6 8. He fits the physical profile of what you'd be looking for on the wing, but if the Lakers aren't using him, it's for a reason. There's something going on that she's not quite clicking yet with him. I think there will be opportunities for him. And if he can play, he'll get in there because the Lakers do need a player his size that can do things, but something's just not quite there at this point for the Lakers not to turn to him right now. I think it's important for fans to realize that guys are available for reasons. Second boya obviously has draft capital. He was a first round pick, spent some time in Detroit and has shown flashes. But you know, once you get traded to a team, and then you get cut, and then you're picked up on a two way contract. You know, this is kind of the leagues way of saying that we think you have talent and we think there's some upside there, but you're not quite ready to play games just yet. If the if this was the Lakers of old, where they're not a championship contender or at least not trying to play for a championship and they're rebuilding team, then you obviously will see more psycho debuted type of minutes. But given where the team's at right now, I don't think you're going to see them unless they're getting blown out or they're blowing out teams. That's just kind of the reality of the season. So I don't expect to see a much garbage time minutes at this point. Exactly. Somebody said, let me see. There was a comment here. Oh, somebody asked for an update on Trevor ariza and another update on Kendrick nunn. So let's finish up with that. So ariza was ruled out for about 8 weeks. The Lakers it was released that he would be reevaluated in about 8 weeks. And that was roughly 5 and a half weeks ago..

"They actually go to deep with guys. Who could be a rotation for any team in the league. And while like yeah like who's gonna pop on this team. Answer the question by the way as kennel. Johnson we can get back to that But like i think this is the type of team that will get overlooked. End up like right back where they were last year. Like ten eleven while the wolves are like what happened we have daniel russell and he scored thirty points again and actually he has like thirty turnovers game to me. Like i had the spurs. I kinda messed up my ranking because over the raptors like this was just obviously just blatant mistake. The reason why look. They're going to play hard every single regular season game. They're going to dwell coach right and it's not like just basically rockets level talent like they have competent. Nba level rotational. Guys all up and down the roster is just. There's no pop here. There's no sizzle anywhere. You can't identify any sizzle here. So like unless the at various about the explain. Why kendall johnson kelder. Excuse me kelvin. Johnson is about to take over the world they bring forbes back. I mean what are we. I think it's a pretty good sign. If pop is literally baby. Birding him team. Usa spot and like a career by like just empowering him to be a guy not only team usa but on the spurs like listen. There's there's going to be opportunities there. I thought he did reasonably well last year. Trying to fill the gaps in between dhamar d'amato roseanne etc. But like you know he's going to have a chance to be the guy and i think he does that. Here's the but just briefly. The case for the spurs also like they don't need just one guy to be an all star if all these young guys just take a half step forward that amount of overall progress is probably enough to round out a pretty good team. That's all they need to be. I get it and you don't need to pitch me on the kelvin johnson hive. I'm already here. Let's say there's you know spurs were reasonably successful. Not awful season for two reasons. Justin you hit. One of their defense was was pretty. Okay they played a really conservative defense. Yaacob purtill was a big part of that. He was actually really good. Just kind of defending the rim. The other reasons they didn't turn the ball over basically at all and now to me was the durose in effect. And that's where. I get a little bit nervous because you know dhamar has a long track record of his teams playing better when he's not on the court but the one thing he does for you. Is he insulates. Your lesser creators from having to do too much and all of a sudden devante murray derek. Whyte when he's healthy lani walker. These guys going to have a lot of ball handling to do patty. Mills has gone to. There's a lot of responsibility in a way. They didn't and i think this offense could get pretty sloppy pretty quickly if if they're not just totally on top of it. I don't know if there's just a lot here. And it would surprise me. If this team was just a complete abject failure like daddy is young as just hanging out on the second unit right now and maybe trade him and get something for him but on the other hand like maybe he just rounds out a pretty interesting small ball thing. I think. I think rob if the darkest time lying happens like you lay it out. The mid have like a colossal failure and hand. You have to restart everything. I think probably more likely that some of them.

"Show including of course more flannels coverage. Previewing game six Analyzing game five and also we haven't yet covered Leonard acl surgery news. I know that was last week but it feels very important. So we're going to touch on that later in the episode. But i i want to say thanks to everyone for setting an all those wonderful emails to open floor mail at gmail.com. That's open floor. Male dutch at gmail.com over the past few days. They've been super. please keep them coming. We're going to kick off today's show with one. We actually got from longtime listener thaddeus who has a question about team usa. So we're going to touch base on matt real quick and that is rates. Hey open floor. I know kevin love pick was dragged. They don't have control over guys saying no and they have no control over bill being out or grant maybe being out but how did team usa do such a bad job. Picking the roster. It's just a travesty. That with all the resources available to them not having two guys do to cove it might be a legitimate issue and thaddeus. as usual. his email is much longer than this and much more detail. Much more wonderful than what i read. But essentially he goes on to name a few other candidates that will get into job. Moran trae young. Aaron fox gordon hayward harrison barnes etc. So you know ron. I'll just throw to you team. Usa loses brad. Beal and kevin love they. Add javale mcgee and kelvin johnson. Who actually played pretty well in their exhibition last night against spain. But what is your Concern level might be the right phrase just confusion level. What are you feeling about team usa. These days i think my biggest takeaway. Mike and it's funny actually. Had this conversation a little bit with our colleague. Chris mannix as well my biggest takeaway that it feels like. They're repeating the cycle that got them to the two thousand eighteen. If you remember two thousand four kind of haphazardly. Thrown together team. They had the hall of fame. Coach larry brown but no one really seemed to be enjoying it etcetera and you know they end up not winning gold and the world's only gotten so much better so much deeper since then and then i think the us as in a position once again the very top guys. They did it for a couple of cycles. And it's lost its luster a little bit. How does kevin love. Get on the team at the to me. The bigger mysteries trae young. It seems his tweet would indicate that he wanted to go. And somehow he didn't get the call that makes no sense to me not to pick on gregg popovich incentive for my guy but you remember at the world championships of dissent bam home and kept up a plumbly brother. I believe over him. They monster yeah yeah. They've made some strange decisions. I think roster wise since pop kind of took over the program. So i i just feel like a lot of people are saying no and i think we're right back to where we were in two thousand and four. That kind of kicked off the overhaul of usa basketball feels like the top top players. Once again aren't as interested in it. And i think it will. Frankly take a bad loss or a bad olympics are two before that cycle comes back we're top players are like okay now. We want to come in and kind of right the ship again it and then on top of that. The last two seasons of nba basketball been incredibly mentally physically draining to a degree. That i don't know why they would expect. Anyone wants to go to tokyo right now. We're the situation is also seems to be incredibly taxing so i guess none of this. Is that surprising to.

"Dan in the danettes. Dan patrick show back. Row consists of fritzy. Mclovin is off this week. More phone calls best and worst of the weekend. What you like. You didn't like eight seven seven three. Dp shell also reggie miller will join us coming up in about twenty minutes from now. Few things to talk about including damian lillard. Does he want out of portland. Does he want others to say that. He wants out of portland. Either way the blazers better be listening. Because if you read between the lines feels like damian. Lillard was out of portland. It's been an interesting week for team. Usa men's basketball. They lost bradley beal. Because of covert kevin love dropped out. They added javale mcgee and kelvin johnson. Not exactly dream teamers but they needed a big guy and jail. Mcgee does some silly things on the court at times but he's got a lot of length he's won a couple of titles here as for kelvin. Johnson it's okay to admit you never heard of him. He's a twenty one year old forward. Who plays for the spurs and keep in mind team. Usa still has durant lillard. Jason tatum other countries would love to be dealing with the same difficulties team. Usa has had but despite those losses to nigeria and australia. America's still figures the heavy heavy heavy favorites to win gold medal. They beat spain last night and now they go to tokyo so we'll talk about all things. Nba basketball coming up. But let's see update the poll results air. Todd if you can which athletes stock would you invest in today. Shohei thirty seven percent treble lawrence twenty six percent mark our twenty five percent column more cala winning the open championship. You not even twenty five shohei otani. You got your honest now. There's a lot of young players doing some pretty amazing things. If i was going to invest in shohei it would have been last year. They they would have been the year before that it would have been when he was just coming over to the united states but he hit another home run yesterday. But you're looking like justin herbert. You'd invest in that if if he was a stock but it feels like you know with what more cala did what jaanus is doing and you know because he has got to. Mvp's and he's on the verge of winning a title. There's only a couple of players in the history of the sport who've accomplished that by this age by the age of twenty six. I think bill russell was in there. Tim duncan is in their lebron was close to doing it but this is jaanus right now doing something and stepping up in a big moment with his postseason performance. Because we've seen where great during the regular season and i always maintained that they were great regular season team there bill for regular season. They were not built for a seven game series. Just weren't they've made a lot of good moves here Mike buttonholes who's been criticized and rightfully so for some of the moves in previous postseasons. Even this year's postseason but he is he's made some moves here. Now it's up to the phoenix suns to try to counter and his great is yon issues. There was something he said over the weekend..

"Six players was what they had going into today. They've added two more. Spurs gar kelvin johnson and javale mcgee now team usa that replaces bradley beal and kevin love olympic. Play starts in nine days and somehow trae young. Tv's notice. i think everybody's not team. Usa hasn't made the move bring trae young women are these the right moves talking about johnson mcgee to make right now or you could tell me no move matters because they have durant learn. They're going to be fine. Yada yada yada. No i like these moves for two reasons number. One sizes. Been a factor. We saw that against jerry and we certainly saw against australia. You've been number two non-stars who can adjust to the fiba level of refereeing i think. That's a real factor here. These dudes are here to play. And they're not just here score buckets. I really like the mcgee addition. I'm not just saying that. Because the guy's a former wizard who i used to love. This guy brings an element of grit to the game. That i think this team needs. And i absolutely think that that's a smart move for short so what you said there. You acknowledge trae young there. But you said guys out there to get buckets. You don't think trae young fits team usa. I didn't say that young absolutely fits on team. Usa but what does team needs right now to fit the problems that have come as a result of these specific losses. So far particularly in the exhibitions. That's i would really love to see trae young on this olympic team especially given how electric he's been this year. It's also good that team because we might get some international olympic. Means out of this him doing something at the international stage that is worthy of internet viral. Moment that's what. I'm personally most looking forward to jail on this but clinton's right this team needs size and jamila definitely provides that israel. Here's the team that lost to exhibition games this week after losing to exhibition games. What in the last sixteen years. I think it was and move is killed in johnson. The moves developed mcgee and trae young. Just sitting there after one of the greatest postseason full-time are they making the right moves here. you team. Usa doesn't need anything other than practice. Time right it doesn't mean it's not like the rest of the world is saying well really lacking talent now. The bradley beal's out there. No calvin johnson play. Okay javale mcgee will probably play some and frankly it's the type of big that they utilize their right because it's a guy that hey if they switch you just give him the ball down low and he will overconfident jail. Mcgee go down there and try to put up a layup. And that's basically what the international team do the. Us allow time. So that's fine. I do think that a little bit of size but in terms of talent they have enough talent so yes would trae young have been a good look on. This team would have been from the very beginning but adding him now probably seems a little awkward. He hasn't played says he wants to play. I never understood this. We need brook. Lopez has been linked to this team. Now as well so would write the report today that is considering brook lopez. Along with of course middleton's coming and Who else devon booker is coming from the nba. Finals they're concerned lopez. Because he's already in game shape and i thought to myself and i'll bring you in your sarah. Do we need guys are absolutely in game shape. At this moment. We need the best players. It's a little of both. I mean there's players that are out of the country there's players that are in the middle of a rehab that they can't interrupt an along for multi week situation that they were planning on playing at the international level. I think it's a little more complicated than just javale. Mcgee and calvin johnson are the best guys. Let johnson's been training with this team. Every day. he's familiar with the coach and the team. So even if he doesn't play that much he's a great guy to have in the huddle and working with them throughout the tournament. Chevelle mcgee gets a lot of flack. But he's a three time champion also cool stories. Mom pamela was a gold medal with the us women's team in nineteen eighty-four. Kind of love. That story line. i just think we needed size. And we need a defense and it's not as simple as just saying go grab another great player. It's what is this team shown you in these friendlies and losing these friendly that they need and it's not another sharp shooting guard less word. yeah. I agree with sarah again. It would be nice to have trae young a guy that can just overcome the lack of practice time. Because he is that type of transcendent tally. Yes but again. Do we actually need that. No i'd say no. And given that they don't know the answers to what you know. Trae young tech. Didn't say thomas said of but that's right. Young really is in game shape. We don't really know this so again..

"Of the nba finals set to be played. Tomorrow night right here near zona the bucks even the series of course by winning games three and four in milwaukee combining a really strong inside game on offense with tougher defense. Chris paul frank. Historically in the nba finals in the series is tied to the win game. Five is one won the series seventy two percent of the time. Do you believe whoever wins tomorrow. Night we'll win this series. Not necessarily this series of season has been unpredictable. Back to milwaukee's best win. This season was beating the brooklyn nets in the second round. They were up seventeen on the road in game. Five ended up losing that game one at home. Then they came back to brooklyn in one game. Seven milwaukee this year think about it. They won twice in miami on the road twice in atlanta. They had the big game seven in brooklyn. I still think they can get a game here. But they don't win tonight tomorrow. And i i still think they can win. Game seven the big thing will be. Can they get a better performance out of everyone. Including jrue holiday. Including honest. Because you know this microphone phoenix. I left milwaukee thinking. I should have won that game. I just a better team. I just didn't execute down the stretch. The turnovers from chris. Paul were big. We'd into a good job on khris middleton. It's still phoenix a series to win. But i'm not gonna say th if they win tomorrow night. That means it went in this series. Absolutely not frank. I'm pretty much with you on this. I don't think either team has established itself necessarily as the better team. And i know you and i sorta how we watched. The playoffs wind is somebody really established itself as the better team. That hasn't happened. Phoenix had a chance to make that happen in game former walkie the night. They didn't do it so now. You've got these big questions one. Are you gonna get middleton and yannis to play that well in tandem again twice Is chris paul gonna bounce back and beat the chris paul. We've seen the entire playoffs except for like the last game and a half. What is going on there. Do we believe the the when they say nothing. Nothing wrong with them. I mean we. We've heard that now. Nothing's wrong with chris physically in terms of some new injury. So i mean you got hit just as you framed it. You've got some big questions. There is booker up for at least one more game in tandem with chris paul which we saw in denver a couple of times. We saw in los angeles against the lakers. And the clippers. And you can't ask answer all these things to you. See these guys on the floor. This this is. This is turned into a great series. I can't wait for game five but who can predict what the hell is going to happen in this series now and there were a couple of times during the game where might bring the broadcast mentioned chris paul grabbing his left hand his left wrist so i think he is carrying an injury. He's not going to come out and admit that and say that he's struggling. You know chris paul and over the last few days all everyone's talking about is the fifteen turnovers in the last three games monty williams came out today during mediaeval ability and said that's an aberration. You're going to see those games. We know once every hundred games at paul. You'll watch he'll be better. I think chris paul you know this. He's got a lot of pride. He knows very often. I expect a big time. Performance had him in game five. This is literally the opportunity of a career of a splendid hall of fame career. It's still the first son. He's he's been this close to grab it. And i i still. I'm not betting against chris. Paul not doing that. You think if you're the bucks you gotta get honest back underneath the basket in the paint. Jan dominant i did not. The block was great. I didn't like the way that he played for the most part most games. That's why i think phoenix. They had to be kicking themselves to that because they were the better team in game for all right big developments with the men's olympic basketball team. Kevin love withdrew today saying he's not at peak performance so the squad will reportedly edge mcgee in kelvin johnson to replace love and bradley beal. Who of course left the team. After entering the health and safety protocol. Mike are mcgee and johnson. What team usa needs my first reaction is not necessarily johnson's played for pop. Iv knows what exactly you can get from johnson and sometimes it's unsung. Gosh who knows that better than pop coach guys. Who don't need eye-popping numbers. They don't need that. They got enough that so maybe johnson will be like a twelve hundred sixty can defend can do all the intangible things that any kind of championship team olympic or league needs. But they're going to get a couple of guys they need. We don't know how sturdy they're going to be how much energy they're going to happen. Middleton and booker and holiday to those guys seems to me that's what they're going to need wing players dominate the world not just the nba the world and those guys can get out and do various things in the position as basketball is played today. I don't know maybe maybe pop must see the need for a big therefore javale mcgee. Who can do some other. Intangible things block some shots take advantage of the international rules which are different in the nba rules. So i'm not gonna say no. The team doesn't need those guys but it needs to three guys who are still playing in the nba finals. Yeah particularly bradley. Beal in love gone. Yeah and let's remember. They still have kevin durant and damian lillard on the team. Also you know you mentioned Popovich with kelvin johnson. Let's not forget that. Steve kerr coach. Javale mcgee and steve curtains assistant coach on this team. So i think in this moment when you're really scrambling i think. They wanted to go with something that they know they know javale mcgee they held and i listen i understand trail. I like the fact that he wants to be on the team and he sent out a tweet kind of comparing himself to isaiah thomas. When you make the dream team we love trae young trae. When is eight and make the dream team. He had one two. Nba championships. so it'd be slow down a little bit and jabil mcgee. That first game against france they have rudy gobert. I think this was a big issue to bring in a guy which size and i think a mistake that they made and i give. Kevin love a lot of credit for wanting to be on the team but physically. He wasn't ready the way that he played against.

Cj mccollum in terms of you can go ahead and school. But i know he turned down an invitation or not. I think he did in the past. But you would be you get someone like games available. I just wanted to have this now. Affects anyone who beale has been around potentially based on the court with because they played three games arrogance. Australia nausea julian argentina in pretty quick succession. So exactly when. Bill was around somebody on guessing who has corona virus. What does that mean. As far as implicating everybody else who shared the cool with him or a bus ride with him or You know any sort of contact with being in sort of a closed environment. Because i would guess bill is being vaccinated through at this point. I think pretty much everyone who is in the nba has been so. I wonder if that does limit how much the other people didn't have to be concerned themselves whether or not they've been possibly exposed to the virus if that's what bill has 'cause i don't think it's even being confirmed that he has the virus yet so these health and safety so yeah. Yeah so we'll see. They promoted the americans did garlan siddiq bay and then kelvin johnson off the select team to fill in in these exhibition games for the three guys in the finals that are going to be on. This team drew holiday devon booker. Chris middleton so it's possible maybe one of those guys again. If bill can't play on this team task maybe they go to one of those guys. Maybe like trae said like. Hey this is an opportunity to get another big because loves not really playing and and do we have enough with bam and green. We'll see here. But i guess in the end we're hoping bills just just on the squad but anything adia expect them to bring one of those call ups. I think it would be a little bit nuts to bring somebody when you're already struggling in the chemistry department you know off the off in the offseason from the off season off the the the couch really i understand. If it's maybe somebody you're playing right now are just played in the conference finals. If trae young wants to come. But i i would just roll with whoever's there and from the select team as being a backup backup and try and go with the guys you got. I wouldn't mess with this. Chemistry already. Bringing booker middleton and holidays a little bit of a chemistry question but those guys will be feeling and feeling good so this is definitely hit but i. I think you wrote the guys that you've got this. Tournament is starting eight days So they gotta be. I would stick. It's kind of strange to bring somebody from from the couch. Hopefully tatum's right me is not like that big a deal. He's back in the starting lineup. And then maybe zach levine. Who filled in for. Tatum takes a bill. Sorta starting position. And you're okay with him as you're starting to guard but we'll see and i'm sure we'll get more news on bradley beal a little bit later today like tk said.

"It belongs to Houston, who stays on an eight to run. Whether was this scrum under there again on the offensive glass pops talking to Evan Scott, the official Kelvin Johnson, as usual in the middle of it. He's unbelievable.
