"And being their basketball coach, but also just being there for them. And we Becky has talked about is that she wasn't sure if it was like, I think the quote she said was like, you know, my girls are really loose. I don't know if that's a good thing, or if that's bad thing. But I like it. And I think for her, it was just letting them be themselves. And not trying to live better term, just do too much. So let them be themselves and trusting in them. And can you remind us what exactly its team accomplished during the regular season? Yeah, so the aces finished ties to the best record in the league and they had a tie breaker with Chicago to get the number one seed and they won the commissioner's cup. Man, we got the cup. Oh my goodness, this is a great feeling, but we're not done yet. And then they had four all stars. On their team, the most of the league was Asia Wilson and adria camby Kelsey plum and Jackie young were the four all stars. Plum, just capping off an already strong night. Pulls up. Oh, the four point shot logo to seal the game. She wins MVP. I do a little dance to celebrate. Age of one, her second MVP, she won defensive player of the year. Kelsey was third in MVP voting. Jackie got most improved player. So the team just had accolades on top of accolades. Coming into the playoffs. Well, this team more or less steamrolled its way through to the finals and after getting blown out in game three, they just came back and closed things out on Sunday in game four. Chris, what stood out to you about their performance in that clinching game? I think the game was like a perfect example of what Becky had been talking about throughout the season. She always said, we need them to choose each other and show it in that game to where

"And we'll throw those in the show notes. We'd be remiss if we didn't talk about game four a little bit, break it down a little bit. From my perspective and I, if you live under a rock or you don't listen to our podcast or whatever, second year in a row, it was unable to watch game four live. And I knew once the schedule came out that the season would be ending in game four. It was just how it works. So I've rewatched, I watched the fourth quarter on a horrible, horrible Wi-Fi stream. Everything was cutting up and Rachel was kind enough to keep me updated. But I rewatched it later last night and a little bit more this morning. And I'm curious your thoughts on this, Rachel, because to me it was like a very, very similar game to game one where Connecticut had all the chances to win it, and they just kept shooting themselves in the foot and that's not to take away from what the aces did. I mean, great teams find ways to win. The aces took advantage of the 50 50 balls. They took advantage of their opportunities. And they really, you know, carpe diem sees the day. For me, I mean, that's what I look at. I look at Chelsea Courtney Williams, sorry getting 18 shots. That's not a recipe to win. Having more shots from those two players versus your legit MVP and your team MVP if you want to call it that illicit Thomas. So just a lot of intriguing aspects to this game, but I mean Chelsea gray. And we're quanta Williams, just really stepping up having ridiculous games. I'm curious for you as somebody who is watching and kind of for me it was easy, right? You're not going through the emotions of it. But I'm curious for you. You know, I was just, I mean, it was not the prettiest game Las Vegas had played. You know, this was not the prettiest series. Las Vegas had played. You know, you have to give credit to Connecticut and just how, you know, disruptive they can be and had the way that they make the game look at certain times. But Las Vegas found a way. And to echo your point about ricotta Williams. I mean, I've always been a huge fan of for quantum Williams. And I love, you know, what she was able to do in LA at times and just her ability to score, I mean, we know we know. Anyone who's followed the league for a few amount of years knows that that's a player who, given the opportunity, given that given the chances, given the shot, given the shots, can put up 25 plus. And that's, you know, not exactly her role this year hasn't been a role with Las Vegas, hasn't needed to be her role has been more so. You've got to be a spark off the bench. You've got to give a serviceable menace come in and give us 6 to ten, whatever that might be. But it was really cool to see her, you know, have her best game of the season. In a game where, you know, Asia Wilson was struggling, Kelsey plum, you know, she finished 5 for 12 and not a horrible night from plum, but like, you know, it wasn't like the starters were dominant. Jackie young, four or 14. So, you know, they're starting 5. There are three headed monster, if you will, that averages 90% of their points. You know, it was really, it was a grind for them to get their buckets and to get there to get their opportunities. And so it was really, and obviously, Chelsea gray, I mean, she was great, but I'm talking about Jackie young, Asia Wilson and Kelsey plum, kind of having just average below average, just offensive afternoons. So we're quantum Williams to come in and do what she did, finish 5 for 9 from the three point line. I mean, it was just really, really, it was great to see that, see her step up in that moment. Really sees this opportunity to secure this because if we're quantum Williams doesn't do what she does, I don't know that this outcome is what it is. And I agree, it was very reminiscent of game one from Connecticut's perspective and also Las Vegas. I mean, this is a team that averaged 90 points a game. Now, game one, I think it was like in the 60s, something like that. But they end up score in 78, but, you know, you hold them well below their average. You've got their three, four headed monster, you know, struggling at times to score. But again, Connecticut just only able to put 71 on the board, it just felt like a missed opportunity. It felt like there were two games in this series in this four game series that can not easily could have gone to put it this way, Rachel. You were talking about the aces, average scoring, there was only one game this series that the aces scored above 80. And I think that's mind-blowing to me. And while and look, there's two sides each coin, right? If you're viewing it from Connecticut side, you're saying, we went into this series knowing the only way we could win is if we mucked it up, and if we really threw Las Vegas off their game, really just completely just frustrated and I think if you're Connecticut, if you look back at the series, you go, we did what we needed to do to win in the sense of the style of the series that it was and how the series kind of laid out. They just didn't make shots when they needed to. They didn't convert when they needed to and they made the nicest way I can put it some boneheaded mistakes when they shouldn't have. On the aces side, you got to be ecstatic because going into the series, you know what they're going to try and do, right? There's only one recipe for success. Besides John Claude Jones just having an insane series. And it was basically that the aces are just going to ride what we've been doing. Hope, require hamby can provide a little something off the bench. And just ride the Chelsea gray wave, which has been undeniably unbeatable historic epic and legendary, this playoffs. And the aces found each game, like it very much so looked like the aces approached each game as a series in its own, whereas the sun didn't necessarily have that mentality. Like the aces went into each game saying, it doesn't matter what the series score is. It doesn't matter what's gone on at any other point. All that matters is we find a way, you know, I always say scratch bite and claw your way to victory and the aces did that. They 100% did. They did. They did it across the board, and they did it with, you know, we talked about Deb, we talked about a short bench that was kind of the, you know, the narrative all season we know they've got the firepower offensively, but you know, if someone goes down or whatever, like what could happen, and I think, you know, we talked about it on the stream that day. Shout out to everybody who joined us. You have to have so much luck as well. You know, obviously this team, I personally think. And I know you kind of agree. Has the potential for to run it back to the potential of a quote unquote. Again, potentials, the keyword dynasty, depending on the kind of moves that happen in the free agency. But you have to have luck when you're talking about these things. Everybody was in phenomenal shape this season. Everybody put in so much work in the off season to take care of their bodies to get themselves to be able to play 38, 40 minutes a game. With a short bench and a limited, you know, it was like everyone's goal was to get into the Las Vegas aces bench. And if you could do that, then you had a shot. And I wasn't sure, you know, if what they were working with could sustain an entire course of a season and it did, you know, and that was really amazing to see. It was amazing to see how consistent this team was across the board and, you know, it wasn't like it wasn't like it was a super team in terms of the starting 5, but like after that, it was like, oh, this is scary. So, you know, the fun thing about this is I'm excited for free agency not to get too far ahead of ourselves and see what this team can add. But the resilience of this team, the chemistry of this team, it didn't always have to be pretty. They found it wasn't just like, oh, we're going to outscore you. And if we can do that great, they were able to kind of grit their teeth and have that edge to them, I think, that they started to really encompass as more and more as the season went on.

Chelsea Gray leads the Las Vegas Aces to their first WNBA title
"The aces are WNBA champs for the first time after defeating the sun 78 to 71 in game four of the finals Las Vegas wasted a 6 point fourth quarter lead before quanah Williams drained a three pointer to put the aces back on top Chelsea gray and Kelsey plum added jumpers to secure the win Gray finished with 20 points and 6 assists I was a little passive and gained three trying to see and scope it out going into the pick and roll So I knew I had to be aggressive Williams had 17 and plum added 15 Courtney Williams had a team high 17 points for the sun I'm Jane ferry

"Well, well, well, here we are after game one of the WNBA finals, the Las Vegas aces one, so what we thought we all thought would happen happened, right? Like no surprises, nothing that was a little bit interesting. I think not. I think that's why we're here. I'm Gabe, that's Dan O ice young joining us. You see the dice it up crew. You've been familiar with their work. I don't know which way I'm pointing. Oh, over here. There we go. I sit up crew, come in here and I'm just joining in as a little. That's a little treat, I guess, I don't know. We'll see what happens when we start talking about this game. Vegas wins 67 64. They outlast Connecticut. They had to face a late charge from the sun, as we've seen that can be dangerous from some other teams, but Vegas pulls out game one, huge win these MB files. I start us off. Tell me what you saw from Vegas that got on this one. Yeah, I think Asia Wilson and Chelsea gray stayed consistent. I think was the most important thing. You know, other players did what they needed to do, you know, Jackie young was there, got a couple of rebounds, had some decent plays. But in here, her name as much as I feel like we normally do. Williams, I think her 17 minutes were huge, only scored three points, but again, just being consistent and playing her role within the team. You know, Kelsey plum, I swear this team, the win is more impressive to me because Kelsey plum is not playing like normally she does, right? And so your Connecticut, you're like, we gotta win that game because you're not facing this team that is just fully powerful because one of the best players in the league is just not performing right now to level that. She should be. And so if you're Vegas, you're walking away like, okay, we pulled out a tough game. Didn't score like we normally do. But we're also mill seeing 20 plus points from Kelsey plum normally. And so that was kind of the big thing that stood out to me just I think for Kelsey plum right now it's a mental thing. I don't think it's at all what anyone is playing, how the coverages are, how the defenses are, what looks they're showing her. I just think it's completely mental her game right now and not being able to knock down outside shots. And then this game not really being able to get to the paint either, but that's because Connecticut has great defense in the paint normally. And so she was getting those looks in other series against Seattle getting into paint being able to finish, but here in this game, she's not getting into the paint as much at will. She's getting blocked a lot. And she's got tough time making shots on the outside. I don't know if they're going to win as easily as everyone thinks that they're probably going to win. If Kelsey plum doesn't start to make outside shots, I truly believe they're going to figure it out because right now you've only got a guard two people. Three ish, including Jackie young, right? I'm muted, sorry. I want to ask you about, do you think tired legs can be evolved either if you guys answer, but I wrote down, I was like, is she tired? Is there an injury because I thought the same as you as mental, but she seems like someone who's so able to compartmentalize and I felt like maybe, hey, she's a little tired. She's played too many man, whatever. I don't know. So that was my question. Do you think tired likes could play a big factor? I mean, she could be tired, but you know, you're in the finals and a player like Kelsey palm, you know, early in the season, it was talked about her fitness, right? How she was in the best shape of her life because she wanted to be one of the best players and knew that her conditioning and fitness had to be at the supreme range in order to play the way that she does. So I actually don't think it's a fitness thing. I just know being a shooter sometimes. You were just not in rhythm. Sometimes you were just not knocking down shots. And you've got to find other ways to affect the basketball game. But I think it's a mental block for her right now. Not seeing threes go inconsistently, not seeing jump shots, but when consistently, it's just creating that block for her. And she's got to find a way to just get over the hump. I think every shooter, every great player has struggled with that at one point or another, and we're just seeing that right now. And unfortunately, it's at the worst possible time. Yeah, hopefully she gets to go. She hasn't been shooting up their level, but she has had moments, so hopefully she can get it back, but as you mentioned, Asia Wilson and Chelsea gray brought it home for the aces, like they have this entire playoffs. 24 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks from Asia, Chelsea gray, put up 21 points on 9 of 17 shooting on her ridiculous diet of shots. Dana, with those two stars going for Vegas, I mean, if they just get those two in a game, can they just win? Do they need more than just those two? I think they do on a normal night. You're not going to have to want to bonner and Courtney Williams going, you know, I guess they can mine four for 18 tonight. Just awful shooting, but I was definitely more impressed with their defense today. I mean, they were terrible on the giving up offensive boards. But when you have Asia Wilson, she's going to have to play at least 35 minutes a game. If you're only going to get that kind of offensive output from her and Chelsea, but it's

The WNBA Got It All Wrong With the All-Star Game MVP Trophy
"All saw the biggest reason of the biggest weight, the WNBA got it wrong. Or more accurately, the smallest way that the WNBA got it wrong. And what is that way that the WNBA got it wrong? Y'all see that all star trophy. All right, now if you did not see the all star MVP trophy. If you did not see it, I want you to pause right now and go check out that trophy, okay? Go ahead. I'll be here when you get back. Don't you worry. Now, congratulations to you, Kelsey plum. You were the All-Star Game MVP. Bruh. That trophy was like one of the cup trophies, you know what I'm saying? With the handles on the side. That woman was holding that trophy up with both hands, and I guess because it would have made for a more symmetric photograph. They should have just let her hold that thing in the palm of her hand. That trophy was so atrophy look like they got it from the trophy shop. Like, you're all star trophy shouldn't look like a trophy that you could conceivably hand to every member of the team. It should look too expensive for that. No, no, no. And who knows, man, maybe that thing with Sterling silver, maybe they got that thing from Tiffany. I ain't got no idea. I just could not believe how small that trope he was. I think they was joking online and they were saying that you could find a better trophy on Amazon. Yes, you could. I've seen it. I've seen it. You can find it. This is the same year where they redid the All-Star Game MVP trophy as a tribute to Kobe. Steph looked like he had to bend his knees to raise that thing over his shoulder. Is WNBA trophy? Like, you could put that in a trophy case, but you really just gonna put that thing on a mantle. Like. Come on, man. Y'all can't do that, right? Even if you wanted to go a little bit too late, gender specific on it. Give them a plate like Wimbledon. You know what I'm saying? Give you something that you could hold up over your head. I feel like that should be the rule about the size of your trophy. Don't matter to circumstance. That thing got be big enough that you could hold it up over your head. That ain't what they gave though.

"Okay. So I have Joel Lloyd and Ariel Atkins, which I don't think are wrong. But I also really love as the MacBook. I really love Eddie. And I just think the way that she's played for Seattle this year, she deserves some recognition. Again, they have gone up into this point and she has been their main focal piece at the 5, you know, does everything, right? Scores in the paint rebounds as a shot blocker. Oh my goodness. So I just love Eddie. And I think I just want her to get in there. I don't know how, I don't know who I have to bump. That's a hard decision for me. But I just want her to get some recognition. And I also feel like, too, I'd like her to get recognition before they start playing with Tina Charles. Because I think that is going to completely change her production rate because it is Tina Charles. So maybe that's a little inside thing for me too is I just know that I think after this, her game and the role that she plays may change, but she's been doing such a good job and she's so efficient. That's going to be crazy to see her. If they can do that work with Tina Charles, out of the amazing. Yeah, so I have her. Yeah. I know, I just raved about it and it's like, why do you have very nice? I don't know, I'm sorry. I just wanted to show her out. I just can't believe you have T and Charles in there. Why? You know, I just think this is a bad look, you know? 'cause she left a team. She doesn't make the All-Star Game. Yeah, I mean, that's getting Seattle three front court players. Come on. Come on, I mean, I guess we're doing that with Connecticut. This is true. This is true. You know what? That's a good point. But 18 plays every position. Just playing point guard lately sometimes. Yeah, a 100%. AT is the AT is probably the regardless of position person because we don't know if she really plays. That's true. Yeah. Okay. So I don't have Joe Lloyd. I think she's not had the same year. She had last year. I think she's an incredible player, can go off on 90 night. I wanted to find a spot for Ariel Atkins. I do love her game. But I have somebody that you were not who is this. Who are you booting Joel Lloyd and Ariel Atkins for? Please tell me. I think I love her game. She is a front court player, and her numbers are fantastic. She's fourth in the league and rebounds averaging over 9 a game. Averaging 13.1 points per game and since being moved in the starting lineup, part of one of the best offenses in the league, maybe one of the best offenses in history, and that would be deer camby. Oh, if you're listening right now, you should see. Listen, I do think that she's had a really good season. Obviously, she has been key to the success for the aces. And I don't disagree that numbers wise, she deserves to be there like she's definitely in the conversation. But also the ace is already have three players starting. Starting the All-Star Game, right? Kelsey plum, Jackie young, and then Asia Wilson, who was also a captain. So I'm kind of like, all right, you got enough players in there. Let's give it to another team and kind of share the wealth. Also, I just feel like it's Ariel Atkins, you know? They are incredibly solid for their teams. Not that she isn't. Yeah, I'm just, I'm just not. Okay, if I had an extra spot, I would numbers wise, no one's probably going to, you can't agree with me, but I would choose as the over Derica. I just, I just would, I don't know. I just would. But she has been hoping. If she makes it, I'm not going to be surprised. I'm just going to be like, who did they leave out? And I always want to give the guards love to, obviously. You know, this league, I swear it's all made by post players. Which we know that. And so I just want to give the guard some love. The guard some love, and then Etsy. And then I'm looking forward to a huge recording this around Eastern Time. And you know, it's about three hours until the ASUS plays the sparks. I'm open, we get a huge dare can be game, and I can text you, so you'll be listening to this as after this game. So hopefully the aces take care of business and Derek goes off and I will sound super smart about my recommendation to coaches to vote for Derek and handy. I don't think you're, I don't think you have to convince them of a lot. I just, I don't know, I just am not. I'm not a 100% there. But also, the sparks are struggling, so she probably doesn't even have a big game. And they will be fine. Yeah. Chelsea gray is out though, right? Yes. Yeah, which makes a difference. But yeah, I still think they'll be fine. I know. Well, I mean, I love this matchup on paper. I gave it up for the floor. The numbers I model with, I expect the aces to win by double digits, but like they have the last two matchups against the sparks, but I mean, the sparks, Kim randomly go off. I mean, they beat Seattle in Seattle recently and Seattle been kind of on a little run ever since losing to Connecticut. 100% sure have, yeah. This league, never know. Yeah. I think that's the beauty of the league, right? Okay, so who are your regardless? Give me your four regardless of position players that are reserves. And then Ryan and calcium Mitchell. I'm not mad about that. I'm not mad about that. You've got Izzie in there, which I love. I'm not mad about that. I do think joy Lloyd or Ariel Atkins will be in there though. I think one of them will be. Yeah, I can see it. I can see it. Yeah, I think one of them will be, yeah. Yeah. Well, we'll find out tomorrow. Yeah, we will. I'm excited to watch. We will be in Chicago. We'll be doing some content stuff, some just chilling, getting to know everyone, some networking. I'm excited about it. I'm in Chicago now for my first time, so that would be my second time. So be a little bit more comfortable when I run it back. Oh, yeah. I can't wait. Yes, it's always good to see you in person. Love watching you on TV, always looking fresh. So everybody take off, you know, if you're not, you know, I don't advocate anyone for skipping out on work or school, but you know, put in extra monitor up, grab an iPad, grab a phone, whatever, and then 12 eastern, 11 central on Wednesday. Watch our girl ice. Gonna be a good one. I support that, you know, it just looks. Take a mental health day and just say you need a basketball in your life. I think I've done that. I think, you know, it helps us need it. Absolutely. We'll see you next week. Bye guys..

"The discussion with not only the liberty, but players like UNESCO, where they're standing is. I think Sabrina is definitely put herself strongly. I mean, the timing is perfect here for the all star running with the Ulster voting just starting. And the MVP race between Asia and junk well and some other names is very strong. So it's hard to insert a player right now into that unless they go on a hellish run. But if the hellish run existed, this four games is a great way to kick it off. So if there's a team you definitely should be putting some heavy emphasis into, I would definitely say right now, it's New York because I think the liberty are on an uptrend and they're very exciting. In our last playback discussion, Jason and I, when we did our last watch along, we talked about New York and Phoenix as the two question mark teams. They were the two teams that had very rough starts and were in situations where they could have a big turnaround. And they were both in games where one team was down late. While we were talking, the other team was up late, the Phoenix were up late in a game and you watch those wheels fall off. And we were saying, they needed to pick up this win in the next couple of ways to head into the end of that first third of the season in notable spot. They now sit three and 8 through 11 games. The liberty aren't much different at four and 8 through 12 games, but their trend seems very much different. There seems to be some real level of energy coming there. This is a team that I would have put in probably the 11 spot about a week ago in my power rankings and they have changed that dramatically. So I think if there's a stock shifter you should watch, New York is definitely one. We've already called out Atlanta. They're definitely one because they haven't seemed to level off entirely. Seattle's still my biggest question mark. I just don't know how to feel about the storm right now. As far as how I would level out stock for all of these teams, and then of course while all this is happening in the aces and the sun just seemed to continue to ride things up at the top of the rankings. Both at the double digit wind category. There's that standard there. I have one last real thought as far as solo discussion goes and we'll see if we have any additional Q&A. So if you're listening here on the Twitch and you're in the chat, if you're watching life feel free to drop any questions for Q&A, you have. If we have any drop in, we'll get to those. But really, one last thought here, we have all store voting officially picking up and one question that I remember getting is what are your kind of dark horse all star picks? I know seamless or starfighter dropped into chat for this episode. Immediately with is anyone giving honshu and he votes for all star, which I thought was an interesting call out. Looking through games and looking through our. So there's one name that stands out heavily right now. And I'd be interested to hear everyone's dark horse moves. I have a couple that stand out in a lot of ways. For instance, I think there's potential I wouldn't be shocked to see in ezi magma on this all star roster potentially. I mean, she's played that well defensively. The storm haven't been as high octane of a team as they should be. Maybe to make that work. Especially where you've got players like Elena delle donne coming back and are going to be taking up those spots. But there's one name. I think last year I remember having the same discussion at this exact time with Jason about Marina mabry and saying Marina mabry should be an all star and probably won't be and that's gonna be frustrating. I think that that kind of wild card type pick and keep in mind last year there was one all star team because they played Team USA, but that wild card pick ended up going to Cleo copper and should have but maybe kind of was left out if I remember correctly. If there's a player right now that I go absolutely is that move? Is that kind of new, I don't like calling out a dark horse versus that refresher move of a player who's entered in my opinion and all star level and deserves that call out. And I think everyone has a couple names, but for me, I'm looking at these numbers. Right now, wind shares across the league. This is someone who sits in the top 6 and win shares is top four. And offensive wind shares for a top team in the league is I believe. I believe distributing in the top 5. Yep, there you go. Forth right now in assist per game through starting in the year. And it's currently wouldn't you know it second in scoring. In points per game, just falling under brief Stuart. And I think I've seen enough Kelsey plums and all star. And this is absolutely kind of, we're finally getting a level of the Kelsey plum. I think we were hoping to see when she was drafted. And she's playing at a very high level is very much an anchor source to the success, the aces have had this year. And that's my move. I think that's the move that a lot of people are calling out. And it's interesting because this hearkens back to talking about Caitlyn Clark and I remember we got a Q&A vector in the college season about is she primed to be in that Kelsey plum situation. As if Kelsey plum was being called a bust and me saying, Kelsey plums primed to be an all star and be a huge impact player for team. That's actually not at all a bad take to make that comparison. And it's been fun to watch. But I would call that out to our Twitter fam and followers listeners, make yourself heard as you're putting in these all star votes, who are those who are those call outs who are those names you're saying they finally deserve that I'll start nod. For me it's plum, you could even call it Jackie young if you really wanted to. There have been a handful of standouts. Ryan Howard has been playing especially effectively so far this season for a very good Atlanta team and I believe is also in yeah, right now is top of the lead defensive wind shares as it stands right now. Don't be shocked if you see the number one pick. The Rookie finding a spot there. But that's where I stand with it. Plums kind of the name that I'm heralding, but there's a lot of names that would be interesting to make it happen. And that's been fun in its own way. But that's really everything we have in the show right now will be dropping in back, I think our goal is to get a couple of these out a week as the season continues to progress, especially as we zero in on all star season. Hope this has been fun for y'all. It's been an intriguing time for me because I've never done one of these solo apps that I can at least recall, so hopefully it's been a good time for you, hopefully you've enjoyed some ad breaks. Hopefully you enjoy calling out ad breaks. Anything else along the head, we've already hit the plug center, head over to our merch page. "I know a lot of people are wondering, why don't we see why are we seeing more of Kennedy Carter? She only got 13 minutes and then absolute blowout. Las Vegas. But in those 13 minutes, she put up 17 points. We're seeing Olivia Nelson ado to get almost double the amount of minutes that Kennedy Carter is currently getting. Katie Lewis Samuelson also getting a lot more minutes. I know a lot of people are questioning where Kennedy Carter is. There's been videos. There's all these different theories as far as where she's fitting in on this team. Is it an attitude problem? They're trying to send a message. She just not been performing well. I don't know. I'm not going to get into all that. And if there's a lot of real story behind that. But I will say that Los Angeles better start figuring something out and start getting some racking up some wins here. They're going to find themselves in a really tough spot. Down the stretch, trying to get into a decent seed heading into the playoffs if they can make the playoffs at all at this point. So Los Angeles dropping 5 straight really, really looking like they're in a rough spot right now. So we'll see what ends up happening with LA. That's pretty much I just want to go over some quick results there. Nothing too crazy. Shout out right now. We've already mentioned her before. But Jackie young having an absolutely stellar season right now averaging just shy of 20 points per game. And her backcourt teammate Kelsey plum also probably playing the best basketball that we've ever seen her play. It's interesting that you bring in a Hall of Fame point guard as your coach and all of a sudden two of your number one picks in your backcourt, your two guards step up and end up being two of the best players in the league so far this season. I don't think that's a coincidence. What we're seeing at Jackie young and how to Kelsey plum. Some really, really good stuff there. So yeah, that's pretty much all we've got for you as far as those basketball results. I'm going to keep this pretty brief and keep it to maybe a quick 20 minute episode here for all of you. But biggest thing that we wanted to give a shout out to was a couple of those awesome results, obviously we wanted to bring your attention to Whoopi, our W power index, and why you'll be seeing some of that type of content coming out. Again, that's a computer. That's not one of us or Jason himself putting something together. That's just what the computer says. We'll be posting those here and there. Then, of course, make sure you're hanging out with us on our watch party. We'll send some links out on Twitter. We'll get some links in the description here of our podcast. So make sure you're watching for that. That should be a lot of fun. Please come hang out with us. And we may even have you on the quote unquote, the stage. And have you come on and just talk with us and be an honorary member of the podcast while we watch these games. Playing on doing these once a week. So be watching for those announcements and we'll just hang out and if you're like me, I like to find other W fans to watch these games with. "A franchise changer. I don't think she's had a bad career. And now she's Olympic gold medalist. She's doing good things in the WNBA. But the question does stand, do you think Caitlyn Clark's game is gonna translate to the WNBA? How do you see her performing when she makes that jump? See, I assume the Kelsey plum comparison potentially comes from those first couple seasons when she was the number one pick and was poised to be a star and the fit wasn't right there. If you tell me that the output we're getting out of Kelsey plum right now is what we'd be getting at a Caitlin Clark. I thrilled. Are you kidding me? Impetus to a title contending team and an Olympic gold medalist. I think I'd be potentially okay with do I will say if you look at that class of stars, Boston page, Clark, I think van lith would be in there. There's a couple others on Olivia miles is probably a year behind them, but like a couple of those very youngs that are gonna come into that just gargantuan giraffe class. She might be the one who currently as far as translating to a star level with the WNBA has the most to make up. Simply in terms of she needs to prove her balance so that she doesn't land on a team that just sees her as a shooter. She goes well beyond that, but I think they need to make that feel like it fits really well. But I also think it's a similar learning curve that we saw with ionescu so far, whereas, obviously, unis who's been injured and out a lot, but also it's understanding that spacing is different, sizing is different. The level of competitive changes, and so there's been some transitions in her game that have needed to happen and Clark may need to do that and I think she has the acumen to make that happen so I would say yes, the tools are there, but she's definitely a case of if things are a little quiet in her rookie season, I wouldn't be terribly shocked. But a part of that is because I think there's a couple other names that are more ever ready, right? You know, I think page will probably if she stays healthy and everything goes the way it's looking she'll end up number one picking whatever that draft class is. And because of the way that awards in pro leagues are about the story, she probably ends up rookie of the year. We'll probably end up saying that it should have been Boston and it'll end up going to page. And I'm interested to see where her standing is. So I think it's here to say, are the tools there for Clark? I think absolutely. Because if there's anything beyond her playing ability in the analytics behind things, her ability to help Iowa get into games and keep things interesting late, not just late game heroics, but her third quarter play is as impressive as her fourth quarter play. Her ability to win their team is struggling offensively and they're seeing a double digit deaths her ability to turn a game into a game is a huge get for NAT. And I just wanted to succeed because I want to see a world where she gets like 203 150 shots a night. Like it's, you know, I love, I love watching Caitlyn Clark play basketball. So I definitely hope but I think that the plumb comparison is apt in a way. I think another comparison a lot of people have already been thinking of as Katie will say Samuelson in that same idea, like are you kind of going to be that offensive spark for a team who is 5th of a starting 5 or possibly the ace off the bench or are we going to be talking about Caitlin Clark in terms of being one of the stars? You look at that three to craft with greater and dilemma and Skylar digit Smith, you're leaning into that direction of are we going to see the most proud of the stars or is it going to be a different case? It's an interesting mindset. I think it's there for her, I wouldn't be shocked if it's a slower kick-off than what we see from some of the other people in her class. So let me start with Kelsey plum's career. And let's look at some of the numbers as what she's done. So she's basically in the starting lineup for the first three years of her career, averaging under ten points a game, usually about 8 and a half, 9 and a half once again. She was fine. I think the expectation was high enough that being fine felt like still bust level pick because she was supposed to come in and be a franchise changer. She was supposed to be in Asia Wilson, she was supposed to use a name that people knew and she was only fine. And people weren't really okay with that. The bubble season was her third season, which is usually where we see the breakout. That didn't really happen. And then the fourth year in Vegas, she got moved to the bench. And she got some coaching. And suddenly everything went up. Her averages went up for her 36 went up. She started averaging almost 15 points a game. She was really effective in that ventral being exactly what you said, Steve, she was a spark. Instead of trying to be an appendage to the starting lineup, she was a go to bucket getter, which is at the core of her game, that's who she is off of the bench for the aces. And it was.

"I'll jump in. And and i have my reason why i feel like there's maybe three players that i could argue for but really to it's between diameter in brittany griner and for me brittany griner played well. The whole game like from start to finish. She was was playing dominant basketball. I felt like an atrocity heated up and cooled off sometimes got a little bit too worked up and seemed a little bit chaotic. And and maybe not quite as on point and brittany griner finishing the game with with the last block and then obviously the free throw points going to greiner so for me. Game ball goes greiner. Obviously huge performance. Out of diana's rossi. But i think greiner by just a hair was the difference maker ahead of toronto tonight k. I like that. That's a good call. steve your thoughts. Who'd you give him the game ball to if you're coach So many high impact moments happen d- it's tough Not to call that out you know when they fell down ten That bucket they went down. Ten vegas was basically crowning themselves in a way they were over. Celebrate but you could tell. There was some excitement there. They felt like they had things on lock. Similar to what happened game for like. Oh yeah this things over greiner teresi. B lee went to the line drilled. Some free throws. Obviously she's credited for those threes in the fourth hitting back to back setting them in the lead there was the block in three but this comeback. This quarter doesn't happen if an odd. You can call out the defensive prowess you can call out key scores especially for mid range. She was unstoppable. If britney griner isn't this level headed mature version of herself that she's become the season gives over in the third quarter. It's alright that ten point lead sir. Twenty point lead very quick. She was on the boards defensively viciously she was consistently making space for her perimeter players. She was untouchable from twelve feet. In it just yet to me. It's greiner as well because it was so much even just beyond what she did on the court in terms of the pulse that she's brought into this lineup has really really significantly helped this team's ability to overcome in game diversity and come up big when they need it I said it when we were on pre mike. We've been very critical. Britney griner since we've been doing the show. This is the greiner waiting to see all the time. Because i knew she had this level of dominant center and you see flashes of it here and there throughout the you know the last several seasons. This is the greiner. I've been waiting for this whole time. By the way why is like there's there's this great angle seeing right now of the greiner block. Why is no one talking about the hall of fame. Sandy brown delo jump hug. That happens in the background. We'll get into that. I'm assuming yeah this. It's it's it's unspoken. This phoenix team. They went from being one of the more disappointing teams in the league in being a five seed when they could have done more said now having homecourt advantage in the finals. We're we're gonna get all into this whole like story of the playoffs and what it means to have this five six matchup. I gotta give a shout out as well. I would not be surprised to see. Obviously greiner i think it makes a ton of sense. Dt big fourth quarter biggest shots. Some great defensive stops. I wouldn't if i'm sandy. Brunello i might give the game ball. The shape. Petty honestly share petty. Didn't stack the stats. She like like dt like bg or even turner but shape. Petty came in to fill in for a to fill in for key who tore her. Acl she pettis thrown into the starting role against the las vegas aces. Who preseason. i was saying they were by far the title favorites at home game five. She's she's thrown into this role. She plays for thirty two minutes and was a huge difference maker. Had a over it over as we were watching the second half especially. We just kept saying men shave. Petty is everywhere. She's on every loose ball. She's got all this energy and not only that but she had like kind of that clenching moment at the end when she gets fouled at three point line and clutches to two shots to put them ahead for good like that was that was huge in. And i gotta give a shout out to shape. But i think all three are probably very deserving you can make a case for briana turner's well because honestly what a defensive clinic she put on eleven boards three three blocked shots four steals like those are those are crazy numbers to to see from turner. So across the board really impressed with phoenix. Let's talk las vegas for just a second cam bays going back and forth with greiner a lot. We had chelsea gray in asia. Wilson really pays these two teams. What i really really was interested in. It was the play of kelsey plum off the bench. I'm curious what you guys is. Thoughts are on kelsey plum especially this version of kelsey plum that we saw in the playoffs and You know the last month or two of the regular season i maybe. I'm calling the cart before the horse people want say i think we're we're seeing. This is kelsey plum. We were excited to see when she went number. One back in two thousand seventeen. I think we not only are seeing a raining six year. That's beyond credited for it and deserving of it but this is the welcoming party for all star kelsey plum for potential team leader kelsey plum for household. Name kelsey plum. Like i think.

Yeah yeah it is just. It's so interesting. And i think the brand of basketball that we saw it in my head him. I was like this weirdly. Feels like it contributes to it like. It's just like if we keep moving. We don't notice the heat or something. Phoenix vegas pulls off the game. One victory ninety six ninety This was going a lot phoenix way for a good chunk of the first half As vegas pulled ahead tonight but it felt fairly comfortable but there was. I think a lot too especially dive into but this was another game of. I'm not gonna say like surprise but just your un spoken heroes record williams kelsey plum. Just both deciding they were going to equally have monster nights twenty five and twenty six points respectively playing with their. You know their heads completely locked down that your ears perked up ready to do whatever they need to get a victory jesse greg going. Seventeen twelve You had a couple minutes worth of of cameras greiner and i just prayed at the very heavens that we get so many more minutes of this. It's the the main reason. I want this to be a five game series. Is the hope that we see these two matchup again because we got it for a few minutes and it was delightful. My exchange moment and there is many moments between both of these games but in a in in a night where we had to intense basketball games. That i'm excited. That our our series. Now we had overtime. We had missed free. Throws we had last second shots. We had all kinds of stuff my favorite moment all night long was grinders wide open for three at the top of the key pulls up. Looks good just just a little bit off and misses that three pointer now. When we got introduced the league we actually had a front row. Seat to sit on the phoenix. Mercury venturing shootaround and greiner can shoot. Three's just so everybody knows. Phoenix finance should not get worried when greiner has a wide open. Look at three she. She has a great shot. She missed it and write down the court. Liz gets it also pretty much at the top of the key and launches her own three to tell players in wnba sensory wants end. Just drains it and then comes back around the court a gorgeous jumper and the two of them instead of like jogging kind of like getting after each other. They just kind of smiled at each other and kind of like bumped into each other like hey that was good. Greiner enjoyed the fact that cam base came down and launched a three in her face. It was as he was kind of like. Hey wait a rep for the for the for the tall. The tall women here to to drain. That so i loved it. I thought it was great. I love that. He's funny that you brought that up. Because i think before that sequence to greiner hit like an eighteen footer. Yeah that was like beautiful. Like a beautiful release tickled the net. It was just like. I always forget that. She has that jumper in her arsenal because he's usually called for that and it was so funny that whenever these two matchup it's exciting because you in your head. You're you get a chance to watch these to battle it out under the basket. Throw some muscle together. You know it's always a good time. And they had a shoot out it was just of course they did it. Just one of those things have definitely what was always going to happen. We just didn't decided not to pay attention to that fact but awfully as you know. Liz continues to get her win back in her. We can hopefully see some increase minutes from her because she still coming off of covet scares and everything with her health. So hopefully that manifest itself into something positive for her. Because i i definitely think vegas even with the wind is is definitely hoping to see moreover on the more and more of her on the court so i. This is a weird question. But this is alvin a post it because it's so much fun to talk about these or plums performance more impressive to you. Ooh that's tough. That's a really hard question actually require. I want to lean because she came out and really like from the get-go was the scoring threat. I think that you know the concern that connecticut had with coming out really flat and getting behind early and then having to kind of play from behind in cat implant some catch up you never want to be in that situation in las vegas came out and particularly williams came out and just kind of lit it up. I think she had seventeen like part with the second or maybe even before that she came out shooting well and and kinda was that offensive spark. That las vegas needed. Because you've got cam. Beige hamby an plum all coming off the bench. And so you need a really solid offensive spark jackie. We've seen it from her at times other times. It's not their stokes. Didn't do hardly anything. She only had one attempt from the field that all tonight chelsea gray we generally see more of a distributing role than a scoring role. So it's really boils down to asia in requena stepped up in was a big huge push into that now. Obviously as the game progressed kelsey plum came along and and had a lot to say about her performance. But i think initially if it wasn't for that require a barrage of scoring early on las vegas could have found themselves. In a pretty deep hole and this phoenix. Mercury team is not the team that you want to have to try to de out of a hole against. yeah they almost. It almost was a tale of two apps. Like almost kind of traded that mojo part way in and then and plum took over for a while there stat lines are eerily qripoli similar as i'm looking like where does it stand up like i guess plum had to less turnovers like otherwise. It's it's the attempts make makes attempts across the shooting floor are pretty similar. They both have won steel. Like it's one of those things of things are pretty consistent as far as that was headed. I think we're kelsey stood out in my head was. Her performance was definitely indicative. To helping vegas pull away with this one right down the street. Yeah because phoenix was able to respond to what we're quanta was putting down early on down the stretch plums performance and an mainly her ability to frustrate that phoenix back. Court was huge in vegas as knee. Because there's something there's an interesting gear that kelsey plum has where she can play angry. Or at least play what i'd call pesky she where she can just really get drive away under the skin of some players and you see that very evident at times and for suppliers to make mistakes play inconsistency a little bit and she's really it could be honestly really fun to watch as a fan but that's where i leaned to it but i mean this was definitely an interesting night because and we act like they were making up for some poor performance from asia. Wilson who dropped fifteen and nine in her own right. I'm not gonna stand here for a second and say asia. Wilson didn't have a good basketball game. Nicholas chelsea gray had seventeen and twelve a definitely contributors across. But if if williams doesn't come in hot if plump doesn't come into the second half completely with her head down this is a potentially totally different result. And we're looking at an really interesting series. So i think a lot of credit goes over that roy. What i love between these teams is the difference in bench. Play for tonight. You know you had like. I mentioned with las vegas liz. Hamby plum all coming off the bench. Tonight which generally isn't always the case. A lotta times. We do see hamby off the bench. Obviously but the difference between those coming off the bench. And then you come to the to the mercury and really the players that got much much time out of phoenix kia von shape petty and sophie cunningham of those didn't get a whole lot of production von probably had the best game. But you look at the starters for phoenix. And that's where starting five phoenix might have the best starting five in basketball right now. Nurse briana turner britney griner scattered with diana rossi like that is a strong starting five vegas. Their strength came off the bench. Vegas is a little bit deeper team and the lentils. Their bench has legs against a lot of starting five..

"From the three free throw line ninety four point four percent this season offense of rebounds the same defensive rebounds a little bit of a drop overall rebounds a little bit of a drop assists per game went up by point six so kept in that range steals per game same kind of range points per game this player in their first three seasons in the league. Eight point five points per game nine point. Five points per game dropped in their third season. Two eight point six points per game. They're averaging on the career ten points per game. They went from eight point six points per game. In the last season they played to fourteen point. Eight points per game and improved in all shooting categories and you might remember the stat fourteen point fourteen point eight points per game because i told you that kelsey plum has fourteen point eight points per game. I voted for most improved player for kelsey plum. Now i know that they said comeback in the thing. I don't know if my ballot will be dismissed or whatnot. But i don't call it a comeback. Don't call it a comeback. Are you kidding me. Kelsey plum almost doubled. Her points per game almost doubled her points per game in this season. Now it's a comeback from an injury. I get that i don't know of a quotes for comeback. Listen listen listen listen. I voted kelsey bloom. I voted kelsey bloom. Most improved most improved. I don't. I don't think that the coincidence that kelsey plum is coming back from an injury should dismiss kelsey plum from being most improved player. And i think that is the more apropos stat or category for her. So i dunno. Wnba zombie like. Yeah we not giving her a vote again because she can't read. I read it. And i said what i said. So who did. I vote on for six player of the year. Well you're gonna have to wait for next episode with me. Which will be thursday to find out so. I hope you enjoyed me. Just kind of going through the ballot. "Year quickly And i wanna save. I'll save my. Mvp ballot for thursday. So something to look forward to coach of the year. I went back and forth on this because on the one hand you have. Kurt miller and connecticut was always in the mix for a top four. Finish but not the clear winner. Always and kurt miller had to coach the team a time when they were without their best player. Mvp candidate john quilt jones. On the other hand you have cheryl reeve. This team wasn't expected to finish very well. They did not start very well at all and yet they got a first round bye. And the third overall seat Cheryl rees had to really work through some wild injuries. The whole thing with leisure clarendon. It was wild and crazy so those are the top two candidates and not to mention that both of them are also. Gm's and i think that's what took the cake for me. I think that for coach. I would give it to kurt miller and i did but if i were voting on. Gm of the year. I would give it to cheryl miller. It's a distinction for sure. I think that gm cheryl worked overtime this season whereas gm. Kurt miller did not have to. But i felt that coach kurt miller was able to maintain a certain level of consistency which we did not see across the league and ultimately yes boring boring boring. Consistency boring boring. Consistency is how i made my choice. And i don't mean that as a negative i. I'm just saying that there were a lot of extenuating circumstances across the league. We also saw that. James wade had a really nice stretch there. A lot of people thought he would be considered coach of the year caliber and coach of the year material. But i don't know Excuse me Chicago kind of struggled at points and again connecticut. One the games that they were supposed to win. Minnesota did not win the games. There were supposed to win early on the did eventually do that but i gave it. Kurt i could just as easily have given it to cheryl but i i i sided with kurt miller for coach of the year. So let me know your thoughts on that but now we get to the goods and of course i'm talking about most improved player. I i will read to you once again. I know you like my dramatic readings and if you don't Just kind of keep utters off. Just kidding i mean someone dear media representative you have been selected to serve on. Okay got that okay to vote for the wnba. Most improved player of the twenty twenty one season and this is in red. Please note this award is designed to honor a player who has made a dramatic improvement from the previous season or seasons. This is not intended to be given to a player who has made a quote comeback and quote. Okay let me give you Sixth player of the year. Just so we have it Dear meteoroid okay. We got that good. Good good to vote for the wnba. Sixth woman of the year for the twenty twenty one season. Now this is in red ink and underlined. So it's really really important. This award is designed to honor a player for their contributions in a reserve role in order to be eligible for this award. A player must come off the bench for more games than they start. Oh kay that's what we have. I'm going to stick with six player of the year. A lot of people have kelsey plum in the six player of the year. Conversation and kelsey plum did come off the bench for the majority of the twenty twenty one season Show in all of her games played so i'm using wnba dot com again in. All of her games played which is twenty six for the twenty twenty one season. She started zero times and she averaged fourteen point. Eight points per game And a bunch of other stuff Okay but i. I did not vote. Kelsey pump six player of the year. I actually voted kelsey. Plum most improved player of the year. Now i know bree jones a lot of people consensus is that this should be briones award. I wish with my whole heart. That i could do that because breach old. Let me. just let me take you to breeze stat line. Should we can do this proba but if we go to briones such an impact such an impactful player if there was like an impactful player of the whatever then sure let's give it to breathe jones but This being her fifth season with connecticut. She was fourteen point. Seven points per game. Seven point three rebounds overall four point. Two of those are defensive rebounds critical she improved to seventy nine point six percent up from sixty nine point one percent from the free free throw line. Not many three point attempts show. That went down. Field goal percentage went down from last season Minutes per game went up from twenty six point one to thirty point. Six games played thirty. Two games started thirty. Two last season. games played twenty. One games started twenty-seven season before that games played twenty seven games started zero and the same in two thousand eighteen and started twenty three games in two thousand seventeen and started zero. So you see there's a progression most improved player Again if we go to what it says here It it does encapsulated. Not just this season. But the last few seasons comparative there is improvement here definite improvement for jones. But let me tell you about a player for most improved. That i'm gonna tell you the give me the stats of the player that i chose. And then i'll reveal their name but this player improved from the field goal for their field. Goal percentage. Thirty six point. Five percent for the season prior forty three point seven percent this season from three thirty five point seven percent thirty eight point six percent this season the season prior eighty seven point two percent.

"Is that ace's remind you ever read the story harrison. Berge ron by kurt vonnegut. No okay well this is. I am as a quick aside. I am very bad with pulling random analogies that nobody understands the reference do so then it kind of side tracks basically harrison harrisonburg. Ron's like this. It's like a post post Electric thing every single human gets weighed down to make every person exactly equal. That's how i feel watching. Bill lambere coach las vegas aces and not letting them do things that make sense with modern offense because they just hold themselves back like i just feel like i'm on watch every single night like are they going to take more than six threes tonight. I don't know. I hope they do like it. Just it's i'll never forget. When i saw the quote at the beginning of the year when asia wilson was like. Yeah i think. I might take more threes this year and those like nope. I don't think so. Like i just don't understand it like it's so bad because it seems so good. This was fantastic. They just grind up people like absolutely beat the piss out of you. Kelsey plum is a joy to watch like running away with the bench But also like it's just like just take some threes man. It's not me trying to be annoying about it. It's just like we're at a point. It's twenty twenty one. This is the year twenty twenty one and we know the importance of like having the ability to space out just having the extra points per possession and having said that the aces are just about the best team in basketball of the sons son are obviously right ahead of them but yeah team is ridiculously talented but it almost feels like the hold themselves back in some ways and obviously i think it matters a little bit less than postseason scenario depending on how you look at it but yes that is my introduction so to this this acis team. They're they're one of the more frustrating watches even though they're incredibly incredibly good stylistically kinda love with the aces do because they're just big at every position. Chelsea gray is a really big point guard and jackie young it just muscles around everybody at the wing. Position asia's big and big. And like i mean trying to defend asia. Her jumper is impossible because her ablest excetera snuff. You're gonna foul her on that almost every single time and then you know you obviously have deer orca. Kelsey plymouth bench who make one of the more fascinating award races in my opinion as to who's going to win six one of the year Cannibalize each other. That's but that's a discussion for different. Time.

"Ever three three olympic competition yes three on three basketball mandates olympic debut in tokyo and while america's men failed to qualify. The women's team made up of wnba players. Stephanie dosen alicia gray. Jackie young and kelsey plum are now certified olympic gold medalists in a sport that is extraordinarily different from five on five. But not so different from what you might know from the playground because the game is played outside on a half court shots are one or two points and the games are just ten minutes long in fact my main complaint as laid out by justin peters a wise. Pc wrote for sleep. This week is that three actually. Isn't playground enough. Like why aren't the games. make it take it. Why can't the players call negotiate their own. Fouls peters also brilliant point here every single team. I agree should be forced to draft at least one player who just happened to be randomly wandering through the gym that day because the only way to guarantee the authentic pickup experience is to ensure the possibility that you might wind up checking a guy who refuses to take his ear pods out and also wearing jeans. Now you might say all of this is just a slippery slope towards olympic one on one and olympic knockout and honestly. Those are pretty.

And that's the dmv shock. I don't and so easy is just truly one of the best prospects seen in a while. The term generational prospect. It gets thrown around in sports. You use it deliberately though. And i want to help show our listeners. Why exactly she deserves that level of acclaim. How is she made her mark on the basketball world. it cannot be understated. The amount to which is plugged in to the greater basketball world. Choose one of the first. Two girls attend steph. Curry's camp along with cameron brink has her on the radar and the writer and person so your play and she denied this obviously and she actually has been there twice and she won the contest the first time and then she did it again while being injured and for three point contest she has the ball and she's just surgically his shot after shot after. Shot this dog these guys. it was I feel the energy curry hands. The trophy and it becomes clear that then she actually has to shoot against him and she does not beat steph. Curry of that's not really part of the cinderella story. I suppose but he did become one of her biggest fans in that. She wasn't intimidated to shoot against him. And actually after she lost like wanted a rematch. She's a big washington mystics fan and she talks about going to a game against the aces just sitting courtside and kelsey plum game is he really admires came over and said hey i love your game. This is a high school kit being talked to by professional basketball player and be recognized in that way to me. That just really spoke to the level of anticipation of expectation end of greatness. Frankly that easy has already demonstrated as such a young age.
