"Nominated singer Kelsey Vallorini. Welcome to the show. Kelsey. Well, hi. So Nice. You look very nice by the way where are you? Where are you coming to us from I'm literally sitting on my bedroom floor in Nashville Tennessee it's not that glamorous. It's a pretty cool coroner right there I like the style there's actually I'm hiding the wind behind me. Hey, there it is. I don't know I feel like it's really to show that there's no need to hide that. There's no need as a matter of fact, something I posted today, which was a news article that said. Alcohol could be key to living longer study finds and it's a big glass of wine that shown there. But I will I'll be living forever. You and I both that's awesome. So you save in great spirits I've been holding during this whole time. I'm in okay I mean listen I like I. Think Everyone's Pentagon through the full like emotional rollercoaster i. think it's probably help yourself. but I'm I'm okay. Like I feel Kinda settled into whatever weird. Mrs Right now with. Just trying to like fund silver linings and make the best of it at this point. But yeah, some days are harder than others what about you? I'm with you on same there. You kind of go through the whole roller coaster emotions now becoming. Somewhat. Routine right and you got you can't get used to it I just kinda take it day by day. But Y. WE KEEP. We keep chugging along and congratulations on your third album Kelsey. It definitely blurs the lines between country in pop, which which I think. It'd been kind of blurred for awhile now. Right did you intentionally try to go for that song? I mean, yeah, I grew up on everything I grew up on a farm in east Tennessee but Britney Spears was my first concert not the best. That's the best way to describe my music. It's it's all of those things. I think to a songwriter, which is what I am I. It's My job to make sure that I'm writing what's authentic in I'm inspired by everything and so to be able to write stuff like girl like that is just very blatantly pop that's really exciting to me to have that on the same record or something that's really blatantly country I. Think it's an exciting time to keep pushing those boundaries in like you said, like those trails are have been blazed for years and so from Chennai gar the tailored so on. So it's really fun to kind of all us. Not Great examples right there too has it been? A little easier more difficult being quarantined at home as far as a creative process and riding because you're you're you're obviously a sheltered right and just kind of not distracted. Along with my own arts which is. Interesting. But I think for creative purposes. It's been great because there's like no roadblocks I'm not like trying to cram at a co right in between touring in stuff. That's been great like having the time in the space to just kind of go into a creative place in stay there. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well good. That's cool in the new single is the other girl with Halsey That's a great collaborate there how come together Well, this is my first emmer collaboration on one of my project. So my first few albums didn't have any and that I got to do a couple of collaborations. Last few years Ellen loved with just having to forces especially in two honors come together and make something. I have been a Halsey fan for years but now I'm like an Ashley family. She's one of my really good friends and so when that happens like when we became close friends, I was like I wanna work with you and what if we did like?.
Chase Rice criticized for packed concert
"Is all kinds of ticked off at Chase Rice. Now for a point of reference here, play a little something from Kelsea. Ballerini. Kyle. I've heard this before that is familiar with her. Definitely heard that other song from Chase Rice, both pretty big names and current country music Will chase Rice did a concert at Tennessee's Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary concert venue over the weekend. Let me repeat that venue name one more time. If you thought the Ah, the rule of home Mortgage Music center was a mouthful. The Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary concert venue over the weekend. Chase Rice did a show and this was the first time I believe he'd been back on stage in front of a live crowd in a while. And some pictures of this event started going around social media pictures and video and it looked like the joint was pretty full and people were shoulder to shoulder, you know. Packed all in there. Nobody wearing a mask. The way concerts used to feel right. So his pictures are going around all over the place of this concert he did in Tennessee. Well. Kelsea Ballerini. She didn't like it. She got her undies in a wad here. This was the tweet that Kelsea Ballerini put out along with a picture of what was happening at the concert. Imagine being selfish enough to put thousands of people's health at risk, not to mention the potential ripple effect and play a normal all kinds. All capital letters normal country countered right now at Chase Rise music we all want and need to tour. I guess we just care about our fans and our family's enoughto Wait.

"Kelsea Ballerini is actually my guest on today's show and her album Kelsey comes out March twentieth so I'm talking to Kelsey about chasing her dreams confidence words to live by four things she's grateful for and then I play a quick little game with her at the end so let's get started here is my episode of four things with any brown let's my guest Kelsea Ballerini so as you know from the intro I got My Girl Kelsea Ballerini here with me hi Hey we just finished recording country top thirty yes gather for international women's day so it's kind of fun to do some stuff with girls in the community now I'm supporting each other so find a way you can support your girls like where it whatever that looks like as you professionally socially personally or a family yeah personally just fine or you can encourage and lift someone up and we should be doing all the time yes but being that we have a special day dedicated to I or am I just the whole month of March is women's month in it make sure you do it more so I'm excited to have Kelsey on for a chat and and talk to you and you know you're you're you're kind of living out your dream not kind of you are solely thank you are you cut songs nominations are on the radio and when you're a little girl that's what you dreamed about yeah so let's talk about chasing that dream like at what age did you know you want to be a country singer I always loved music I was always involved in music I did like church choir I did glee club level high school but I don't know I just there was no one around me that really showed me that I could be a musician so even though I was involved in it wasn't something that like in Knoxville you like achieved like wanted to be so I thought I wanted to be a vet I thought I want to work with animals because that was something that I saw women around me doing and felt attainable but honestly why I started writing songs just for me because it was fun my parents got divorced when I was thirteen and I needed an outlet and it fell into my lap and is the greatest gift of ever been given and and so I fell in love with that and around the same time a girl named Taylor moved to Nashville and was a songwriter and young and I was like oh that's something that you can do and be it and I really think that if she wouldn't have moved to Nashville and started her career when she did I wouldn't have known that that was a career that I could go after so I'd I fell in love with it and I started dreaming like to that level of like oh maybe I could I was on the radio one day maybe I could get a publishing deal you know like all those things and my mom started bringing me international back and forth I was thirteen and I moved with her when I was fifteen to be here and really try it like really give it a good college try what a special thing to have another female like what Taylor when she just casually mentioned Taylor it's Taylor swift and Katy there's not here but you know she was still new on the scene like I remember the first time she came to radio in Austin the Bobby bones show is based out of Austin and there was a blonde girl in the lobby on a piano playing for the PD Tim McGraw and nobody knew who she was yeah I was going to happen with her but she was someone that was chasing her dream and yes for you to see that and I really felt like no matter what age we are when we see other people that we can look to that are doing something like well if they can do it and maybe I can do it and the worst that can happen is and at such a young age is probably hard to think about feeling but you gotta try and yeah looking for you had a mom that was gonna help you yeah yeah I think it's important in like every career to to have a woman in a spot that you aspire to be and so you know that you can be in that spot and then at that position yeah yeah and then and you know not everybody will probably have mom's listening that might be thinking of okay gosh what a my daughter's gonna do how can I help encourage them and empower them with with your mom that that rock for you yeah I mean I I was like the kid that wanted to do everything so like I did gymnastics and I did dance class and art class and all this stuff and I loved I loved trying everything in like experimenting but mom watched it like music go from a hobby to a passion and I think for parents like they can see that with kids that do support for kids that are really academically inclined like when your kid goes from this is something that I'm good at this is something that I like to like this is my purpose this is my passion you know my mom saw that and so that's when she was like I wanna prove not when I give my daughter the opportunity that she she wants what what is the best advice that you've received over your career I mean if you're twenty six now you can start coming here at thirteen yes thirteen years and I now in Nashville I've lived in Nashville for eleven years I don't know when that happens honestly my mom and she has given me the same piece of advice since I was in middle school every time I would like to leave the house to go to school she would always they remember who you are and I was used to roll my eyes and be like mom you're being annoying but now she says it and it has such a weight to me because it's just like it that runs so deep no matter who you are who you are what you do like remembering your core values and where you grew up in why you are the way you are like that means so much and then in this process like do you have any lessons that stick out to you that you've learned or maybe something you have to learn the hard way or that no it was more powerful than yes like every know in my life let me to the correct yes and at the time it's all secure world ending at the time it feels like you're like swimming or swimming upstream all this stuff but like every no really did put me in the place of getting the right yes for me and I think that's important to remember yeah in life this in life yeah no I think that that can be pretty powerful it's hard to sometimes and accept a no or Gallier yeah and want to give up yeah and even personal things they even break ups are like when when friends come in and in and out of your life like those are all knows and that is an okay thing to have and for you to with a lot of opportunities that are coming your way in just how hectic and busy life is just speaking of of knows but in a different state absolutely learned how to how to how to say no are you a yes person or if you had to learn how to I say yeah I realized like probably a year ago that I was a little too driven by success into me that meant like a number one or a platinum record or getting on this tour or whatever and I really had to recalibrate and be like you can't say yes everything and you need to you need to redefine what success is and in doing that you need to start saying no to certain things that are putting you in a place where you're getting mentally unhealthy and striving for the wrong stuff instead of just making music that you love that you're proud of and then working to promote that music to people because that's what I want to do is connect with people you know totally and you mean you have a husband do you have a family you have a dog that you love and play and then just yourself I don't care like what do you what do you do for self care I really started working out I hate it I hate it so but I I do it because it helps me like clear my head and a healthy get perspective and I know that I'm doing something healthy for myself the not for anyone else it's just for me and then I like any time that I can go on the road with Morgan and just like the wifey and like bring him water during sound check like that kind of stuff feels really normal series so I love doing that kind of stuff I love having my friends over I love having girls nights I love going to see my mom in Franklin my dad Knoxville and that does all that I go to therapy now which is really great for me and my brain I think all those things that I've had to learn to help me stay balanced and also when I do that I'm such a better artist like I'm writing better songs and more present when I show up places sides I just had to learn like balance for me makes me better as a artist songwriter and as a friend wife daughter all that stuff.

"I want to ask you about ward that I think a lot of people thought a woman was going to win her name is Terry under way and it went to Garth Brooks again as entertainer of the year it feels like he's one that I think pretty much every year since the Carter presidency but what was that about Carrie Underwood that a lot of people were surprised that she didn't take that trophy home well John I have such complicated feelings about this so Carrie Underwood the most successful women artists in the country format the highest charting most played women on radio put out a great album last year called cry pretty that pushed her in new directions so yeah everybody expected this to be her year with the theme of the whole award show being women in country and there's Kerry the whole time I mean it was I was shocked when Kerry didn't take that award and I love Garth Brooks deeply I truly do I am a huge admirer of him in every way I love his music I love this live shows I think he's a mensch but I just want to say to you Garth you could have done a McLemore you could have done it a dell when those pop artists one big awards that were expected to go to other performers in the case of McLemore Kendrick Lamar in the case of the dell beyond say they said something in their acceptance speech about that though Garth did something interesting he called out Reba McIntyre's performance that night she had performed her classic song fancy and he also called Kelsea Ballerini a younger woman artist who's really strong and moving up in the country world and said Hey you know you you all are great and you all deserve awards to but why he chose to not say Hey Kerry this could have been yours I don't know there's probably politics I don't even understand there but I wanted that moment

"I couldn't get near excited about those things that's when i did whenever i get in the room with somebody like kelsea your dillon who can deliver that vocal a totally different way than i can and they are the true artists to where it doesn't take much he just put a mike in front of him in with a great song and you capture something i feel like for me personally after work away you are to make of sound good to consider myself an artist but me being in the studio low land of things i know how to kind of make records sound cool but i would much rather do that for somebody else than to try to do it for myself in a sense were i feel like when you involve other people and have a lot of other people involved to get excited about it it rings a whole different life to it to where if our just account of cutter record for myself you know so that's where your heart is yeah man i would i want to produce for for anybody that you know connects with one win the writing room if if i do a demo up in their inspired by and they want me to take it on and and do a full production on it that's what excites me the most i'm not the kind of person than we like hey let me british record like i would rather get in the room he's been some tom try to figure out who that artists is as a person in really i do rely on a lot of their personalities to cana dictate where i take it musically so hopefully whenever year kelsea ballerini song you know that it's a kelsea ballerini software she even says a lear it could you hear it you hear it in the sound you here in the tempo the way that everything is kind of delivered almost records so if our work with you know a an artist that was just completely polar opposite of that you know i don't want that same sonic characteristic to that album you know i want it to be true to that artists um so that's where i get fired up about i'll i would rather wake up every day knowing that i have the option to create something fresh with a new artists that may be hasn't maybe they haven't experienced before.
