"Welcome to restaurant hails. I'm your host Zack Ferguson. And on this actually pretty nice Sunday afternoon in Omaha coming back to you with my fantastico hosts to my left. Is Whitman happy? Belated Birthday family Plus Alexei it was going to end the around the world. Someday you're GonNa go far and when you do. I hope he stay there like remote capabilities now for podcasting if you do so. That's good plus on my right is Brady. Hess who gifted me with cold brew. Coffee an Uber Gift Card also along with Zach and then a Jimmy. John's lettuce wrap but then he also got confused if it was the sandwich or himself that he was smelling. The true story really happened. Fifteen minutes ago did something check Bredesen. There's pippen like smell right by the way is Kelly West currently of Sullivan's bar and Dundee place formerly a great barred Omaha that I cannot wait to talk about All dundy bar in a great little spot in Omaha but welcome in thank you. Thanks for coming in on Sunday. Thanks for it's it's three. I was concerned that we might be cutting into your your sleep style. At this point I was up for like twenty minutes. Okay You to also adopt the philosophy of like wherever. I need to be whenever time Just wake up like thirty minutes before that. Ask No schedule. What's and when you wake up thirty minutes before you need to be probably going to be fifteen minutes late as a bartender absolutely. Yeah just because just because that's what you do doesn't mean that's how I'm better now depends on what I'm doing that's true. I will say that overall Brady has gotten better being on time relative to where he used to be. I'm not saying that he's good at it. I'm just saying he's better than he used to be. I feel like all those times. That Wilson and Washburn where where? We are placing bets exactly. What minutes past five o'clock you would walk in? He would have been on time. Had he not spent like fifteen minutes ambling around bakers looking for snacks. To bring in the whole fuck and staff was doing. I was doing work for the people we have. We have food there too like. Did you have chips does yeah? You don't have gummy bears. I think I brought it to my hair. Bows once in a while so disgusted? Find Offensive. Kelly where are you from me? I'm from Omaha born and raised okay. Spent most of my life here a few years in southern California. We'll bring you out there. Xm joined the navy. And I was just out there. Managing Burris for San Diego. Yeah right on a managed to San Diego Brewing Company for two years and ten amiss. It the southern California breeze incredible. Oh my God I think San Diego had like ninety four burs so he's tons of options. It's pretty strong per capita average. I feel like it was it was and everything was good because if you failed yeah that. Martin is so huge. I've never been I've always heard. San Diego is like the closest thing to being like a mid western city in California. Is that veterans true. Yeah the rest of southern California is FIS. What's up crowded everywhere? But San Diego is still a little bit of privacy in a little bit of Friendlier People Yes. People like San Diego is like just like the the most chill of the coastal cities and stuff like that through through southern California and you also have like all the weird like inland step of San Diego to Lake. Where you know. It's a little more rural and stuff and it's all still part of San Diego so you get like a really cool. Nick people through through that area. Also if I had that much access to direct sunlight I be in a great mood to keeping everyone said chill and like contents show to Noah Alcott who lives in San Diego and listened to us also Brady thinks that no. It doesn't like him but trolls head. Dm Gilson pointers and like where to really just ever. So no and I know each other from way back when and went to church camp together. The Noah is one of the few people who is still friends with me through all that. So I'm just going to say no was a pretty cool person so shout out to you know. I mean he's really good at making fun of Brady so obviously at that point. Great put up buddy. I can handle it. So you're in San Diego. We're back to Omaha and bartending stories. I mean let's let's get into it. Would you start at two? How you got to where you are now I came back to finish school. It was too expensive to go to school and survive so I came back I worked at the old Dundee Bar Before I left so I went right back into that and it was just tight family family employees and everything. Yeah still is. Most of the staff went to the new location over on seventy maple with a smaller place and stuff but the old bar was just something special it was. We had a group of probably thousand regulars that came every single we act and the money was silly. I moved back here to go back to college in then I started working there and I stopped going towards your. There's so many people who have still general story. One of everyone misses only the like to listeners. That don't know anything about Omaha. Like that. Bar was such a fucking crazy hub of different people and I set great staff Very much industry bar and then I said you'd walk in there and you could see you now. Most people a Lotta people. There recognize bartenders servers. Other restaurant people which is awesome but then it was young old black white purple like a little bit of everybody and I love bars that have a wide demographic of people and and that place just hit it on the head it was it was really unique and as many people as we'd have crammed in there every single night like on a Tuesday night we would be at capacity and down at the lower bar. We'd have like a the old man from the neighborhood. The classy old guy who were the driving capterra's Kennedy sitting next to the neighborhood drug dealer. Yeah next look easy to find getting along conversation. We've never really had any huge fights or anything like that. Everybody got along and it was very strange but worked somehow. And that's why I always like Saeb. That's kind of the same thing saying we're just saying like you'd go in there and you literally had somebody from every walk of life you'd have old people in there. You have young people in there. You'd have most likely underage people in their. You'd have hipsters. You have punk you literally. Everybody and I think the beauty of it was definitely. Its location like yeah. It was like somehow at simultaneously a neighborhood bar and a destination bar in a service industry bar all at once but the thing is at the draw of it was so huge. You know downtown. Rats would like come all the way up there like it's nowhere near where we live but like it was just like the place to be and like hang out and see everyone else from like all the other neighborhoods and stuff and like. I think it provided the perfect cross section of like all those different areas of Omaha where people want until you get get drunk eat.

"Let's turn to Wall Street where investors have been trying to write out some really turbulent stock market swings. It's been a rough month for the markets. Yesterday. Stock prices were down across the board. And then as the afternoon wore on everything suddenly changed. Let's talk that through with NPR business reporter gyms Rowley morning. Jim. Good morning. David what happened with the markets yesterday? You know, it doesn't get much crazier than this. You had stocks opening higher than they plunged. And the Dow Jones industrial average was down as much as six hundred points at one point. And then about ninety minutes before the end of trading stocks, suddenly rebounded and the Dow actually finished up about two hundred sixty points. And this comes after a really big drop on Monday. And then a really really big increase on Wednesday. We've now had six straight days in which the market swung up or down by more than one percent in this is unusual. We haven't seen this in the. Market since two thousand eleven which was you know, as you'll remember when the economy was recovering from the great recession. Sure. I and it seems now though that the economy I mean is doing pretty well. Right. I mean, there's a pretty strong job market. Other numbers have been going in the right direction. How do we explain this turmoil in the markets? Well, the thing about the market is it it's always looking ahead. It's I mean, it's not about what's happening today. It's what's it's about. What's happening? You know, six months from now in the future. And one thing that that's happened is the Federal Reserve just raised interest rates, and fed officials indicated that right now at least they're going to keep raising them in the new year, and they they do this the raising rates because they're worried that the economy is running too hot. They're worried about inflation getting out of control that's one of their mandates to to worry about inflation. But there's also a lot of evidence that economic growth may be slowing in the United States. But also in. In europe. And Asia, we got a report yesterday that showed there was a big drop in consumer confidence in the United States. So it's the economy running too hot. Or is it slowing and there's evidence for either scenario, and meanwhile, investors just don't know where the economy's headed. There's a lot of uncertainty, and that's that's made for a lot of volatility. So I know we always see these famous images of people on Wall Street like looking deer in the headlights sometimes when the market swinging like, you know, what is going on with my investments, but if we look out in the country. Americans who might have their long term retirement savings invested or don't have any money at all in the stock market is does this kind of all Tilleke affect them. Well, it may not affect them directly. I think overall most people shouldn't worry about this too much at all it doesn't have an indirect effect in in several ways. I mean one is your pension fund may be invested in the stock market. It probably is. And then also, you know that when stocks go up or down at affects the rate at which companies hire an invest, so so yeah, that does have an impact. All right. That's NPR's business reporter gyms Rowley. Joining us this morning to talk about what sounds like a wild day on the market yesterday. It's been a pretty volatile time. Jim, thanks. You're welcome. That is up. I for Friday, December twenty eighth I'm David Greene king. "We are here in the conference room, the most lovely conference room of the adaptive training. Jim, it is in the heart of Texas, right? Outside of Dallas. We are joined by two footballers who have changed their course and are doing amazing things for people with disabilities in this country. You take different classes what every every semester almost and you pick people to come here and learned that they can face the challenges in front of them. So can you explain a little bit more about that? I think the point you hit it earlier. If you treat people broken that broken, you know, I think the medical community at some point cash runs out, insurance runs out and then people with disabilities, no matter how that came to be. They say, what's next? Where do I go? How do I find a place to better myself? And I've just been one is a former Mr. relevant and somebody that I felt like Colin to had to climb and scratch and claw to try to make it in the league. Now we've had this opportunity to expand what the league taught us and repurpose it in here to look people in their eyes and see the potential in them more than what they see is broken in them. And that's just the way to create a gym program around focusing on what you can do, not what you can do. Dave, how did you to link up match dot com. Dark time. Shout out to my beautiful wife. Sarah in our beautiful girls. Now, Colin was running the marketing arm to- Sita's account and heard about the gym through navy seal. We're actually founded the gym and when I met him, I just like he just fit. It was just like, do this guy has to be here. I know I couldn't pay him what he needed, that's for sure, but I just knew that he would come alive in this atmosphere. So talk about what that transition has been like for you. I learned about David through another navy seal who came and spoke up our agency. And as soon as I heard about what he had gone on here, I just wanted to be a part of it. I was never military, but my grandparents, both my grandfathers were, and it was something that always wanted to be an NFL player. We sort of had that no quit mindset and it was it was even for David. I mean, after we finished looking for a place for ourselves, the military was one of the first options that came to my mind as something to try to be a part of. So when I heard about that after the Training Foundation and the work that they did with the military is a natural fit for me, wind to the part of that, and it started out just training some of the guys. I'm recent to the team. I'm new to the team, but. It's so addicting, the atmosphere how they how team atmosphere that so used to in the NFL and what a lot of these guys are used to in the military. And let's talk about the atmosphere because I think that's really important this gym versus other gyms that I've seen where physical therapy is fucking tough. Like mentally, physically, it's tough and it's tough when you feel like you are a broken person from my own experiences, I saw my dad had a stroke and go into a training facility where everything when you go in there and just feels like sad sack, Sally everything is completely beat down. This is a different place. So explain like kind of the process of your vision for the gym and when people walk in what they expect to see what you want them to see if you bring stoke, everybody else brings stoke and like I know that sounds very surfer, Kelly, west coast guy me, but no, like how do we make this exciting and fun. These people, they oftentimes don't see themselves as athletes. And the Bill Bauer is that if you have a human body, you're an athlete, whether you're competing sport or not. So the experience shapes a belief which changes the behavior, which creates a result, a gym that says, you have this behavior, you'll get these results that's not sustainable for us. We can create something that's an atmosphere where it's fun..

You tell us what the difference between these two, are that's a, great question and it's something really important for people to understand so. Red, tide is a harmful, species of phytoplankton we get seventy. Shore at can use, surface water nutrients to sustain or even exacerbate we just don't know to what level because we don't have the data as far as saying oh bacteria. Blooms, go there a direct response of nutrient loading so, urbanization fertilizer use even even dog poop that people choose not to pick, up that all adds to the nitrogen phosphorus and, our surface water runoff and feeds that cyanobacteria now in addition to this. Florida her name is Kelly west it's. Been worse than ever we're seeing like you know all, the manatee the, dolphin the turtles everything is just washing up all the bait fish for miles and miles so, why these events are important is that we can contact our leaders and let them know in, a, very vocal, way that we opposed what they're doing to. Our waterways what's your, reaction to that my reaction is is that it's not just in the hands of regulators it's in the hands of the of the citizens as well. And, an ethics of of industries, in agriculture it's not, only a community problem it's a it's a national problem worldwide problem that, we keep on building and building and worrying about, economics without worrying about the environment at the same level Tracy phenomena as..

That is Dr Andrew accountable let me go right to Jordan here we're talking about pastor, Andrew Brunson on home arrest right now which is better? Than jail but not quite home? Yet, I want to get I'm gonna ask one question and when everybody give me your thoughts on start with Jordan what do you with, the economic pressure on Turkey now what do you expect to happen well we know the Turkey. Is tied directly President, Trump's tweet which he did not do it in. The in the tweet announcing the tariffs but they are in the media and in through the government directly. To to pastor Andrew Brons as you said earlier the most expensive pastor in history to an econ Me falling apart and is that going to again make it with the, people of Turkey they're not that radicalized overawe and I think that they may have been okay with the strong man. Talking Turkish. Nationalism but his full embrace. Of almost Islamic this kind of modern Islamic radicalism I would call it is not I doesn't sell to the people and I think he's on, the, brink he's the one on the break a a real disaster for himself let me ask this to. You Andy your sense you've been. To Turkey a lot you know. The region you know the area what do you think the next, thing is here I think, air to one is going. To have to climb. Down I mean I've been distant several times it's a western city essentially a city of, seventeen million people the interior of Turkey is very? Different? The ancient capitalization medieval capital the? Heart, of the Byzantine empire's different but the reality is that people are hungry both in Istanbul and people are hungry in the middle part, of Turkey which means that they're not gonna tolerate the inflation they're not going to tolerate the. Economic hardships in her, two one is going to have to climb down Down, but you're going to have to give. Him some face saving device so Harry from the standpoint that the. Impact on the lira of the. Impact, on the. Economy already has been significant what. Do you think happens, next well I think. Jay you're absolutely correct the economy is cratering the? Lira is plunging investors are fleeing and sanctions and tariffs are working. So I, think they're willing deed be. A climbdown by the, Turkish president despite his current defiance ultimately. He will have to answer to his. People and his people are, hurting immensely I think that's the reality. Appreciate everybody's opinions on that let me again, say a huge thank you to Sean and the whole team here at, the Sean Hannity show for covering this story and. I think look I think we're going to get this pastor home to the United States very very soon I can't give you not good at predicting, dates especially in, these kind of cases you can't because there's so many ups and. Downs but I still think with all this going on at the end of the day we're going to get there. Which is going to take it? May, take a week, and may take. A month we're going. To get there anyways. We've got a lot more to discuss with me. Taking calls as well at one, eight hundred nine four one seven three to six that's eight. Hundred, nine four one Sean by co host will be back with me in just. Moments that is mayor Rudy. Giuliani who's also my co. Counsel representing the president of the. United States we have some news we'll talk about their you may have heard some things a couple.
