Among the top local stories we were looking at for you, we begin the ride this Thursday morning with a man being shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy locally in Gaithersburg. It happened on Wednesday as a federal task force was trying to serve a warrant of the suspect apparently waved a knife at the deputy. It is very difficult for the law enforcement community when something like this happens and it's also very difficult, obviously, for the family who lost a loved one. While serving a warrant for a serious home invasion in 2020, a deputy shot and killed a 35 year old man wanted in connection. Sheriff Darren popkin tells WTO P that a deputy opened fire after the suspect pulled out a large knife. It happened on Garth terrorists around 9 30 a.m., a witness is recovering from minor injuries after also being shocked. The deputy has been with the sheriff's department for 8 years, we're told he was not wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting. In Alice Gale, WTO news. One person is under arrest this morning in connection with 7 recent carjackings or attempted carjackings in D.C. and that person is a boy just 14 years old. D.C. police have linked the teen from southeast to the crimes that were committed last month and this month in northwest and southeast. It's great to have you back Jessica. Welcome. How long do we think it might take to learn who won the democratic nomination? Well, the more I had a former DNC chairman and former Obama labor secretary Tom Perez by about ten points and we saw a much heavier democratic mail in voting than Republicans, which is sort of the trend we have been seeing. So if this counting starts tomorrow, if there's a clear trade, sort of that I expect that sort of ten point maybe a little closer margin continues. I think we could see it called within the couple of days after that just we're just unclear how fast they're going to count too. So that's become an issue. Of course, lately, I want to ask you about who actually bankrolled Dan Cox's campaign though because this is, this would be whomever the democratic nominee is their preferred rival, right? Much has been made of the fact that the democratic governors association dumped over a $1 million. I think it was closer to $2 million into ads and mailers for Dan Cox if we can say that, they were critical through the eyes of a Democrat, but they emphasized his ties to Trump. And the idea is that Democrats would be able to run against the person they saw as the weaker candidate. They used an ad campaign called

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation to protect same sex and interracial marriages amid concerns the Supreme Court would take up the issue of marriage rights, 47 Republicans joined all Democrats in voting for passage, despite Republican leaders portraying the bill as unnecessary amid other issues facing the nation. Well, it took 6 months, but D.C. police have made an arrest in the shooting of a northeast man back in January, officers say a 15 year old hyattsville boy was taken into custody yesterday. He's been charged with murder. The suspect's name has not been released because of his age. Police say it happened in the 5000 block of cloud place in northeast January 18th, officers found two adult men that had been shot one died at the scene the other was treated for non life threatening injuries. The fact that it's actually already been called, even though the mail in ballots still need to be counted later in the week, shows how significant this is. This sets up an interesting situation then against whoever is chosen as the democratic nominee and we don't know who that will be yet. It could be Wes Moore. It could be Tom Perez. Right now it looks like it could be Wes Moore, but will again see what these mail in ballots hold. But I think this is going to be a candidate that, frankly, the Democrats want because they actually poured in some money to the Republican side in an unconventional way to try to prop up the Trump backed candidate thinking that this would be a weaker candidate for them to go up against in the fall. Some people think that's a little risky given what happened with former president Trump. So we'll just have to see. Well, turning to the congressional races, the fourth district race Glenn ivy, the former prince George's county, state's attorney against former congresswoman Donna Edwards, very significant win for him in the fourth district. And we now know who will face Democrat David trone in the 6th district race, which will be closely watched because of redistricting there. That's right. This is a race that everybody's going to be looking at with David trone. It's going to be a rematch with Neil parrot who ran against him two years ago, but this district will be very different from the one that these two candidates ran in last time. It was a much bluer district. It had more of the Washington D.C. area suburbs with Montgomery county, now it includes a much larger swath basically all of Frederick county a much more conservative area, so that's going to be a tougher race for David trone and one

The Baltimore sun is unpacked the latest reports covering early June to early July, political rookie westmore is outraising an outspending all his opponents raising just short of $600,000 and spending almost 2 million. Happening today, a judge is going to hear arguments as the loudoun county school board attempts to shut down a special grand jury, investigated investigation that was launched by the state's attorney general. That grand jury is looking into how the school system handled two sexual assaults by the same high school student last year. Now today is scheduled to be the first public hearing of the grand jury, the judge will determine whether that hearing will be open or closed to the public. A retired three star army general has been suspended from his duties as an adviser to active duty officers. The suspension follows reports that his social media account carried a comment critical of First Lady Jill Biden. USA Today reported that a Twitter account with retired lieutenant general Gary valesky his name posted a reply to a statement made by the First Lady following the Supreme Court overturning roe V wade. Jill Biden's statement said for nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies. Today, that right was stolen from us. The Washington Post reports the lawsuit cites the Supreme Court's June 23rd decision that makes it harder for governments to restrict the carrying of pistols outside the home. The district currently prohibits people with concealed carry permits from carrying their weapons at schools, government buildings, polling places, medical offices, and businesses serving alcohol in addition to the transit system in the lawsuit filed yesterday that plaintiffs argued that metro should be removed from that list.
