"To The White House after the Thanksgiving holiday, end of the year business will be priority one before the GOP takes over the house. In the wake of devastating mass shootings at an LGBTQ club in Colorado, and a Virginia Walmart, the president renewed his call for an assault weapons ban. "1203 on this Thanksgiving afternoon, November 24th, 56°, it's going to be nice. We're looking at highs hitting 60. A very good Thanksgiving to you. I'm Shayna Steele in the top local stories we're following this hour is this holiday and how people hundreds of them in our area woke up early to give back to those who need a little extra help. 8500 pounds of turkeys will be heading out of the doors here at food and Friends. The meals are filled with healthier options, so roasted potatoes instead of the unhealthy and butter filled mashed potatoes. There's a little butter on there. It's a special day. Voodoo and Friends director Carey stool foods says they have seen an uptick in people who need their services this year. Really been hearing from the healthcare providers that refer to us that people are showing up at the doctor sicker. So many people delayed care over the past few years. Volunteers like deepika are helping get all this food to around 800 families just in time for a Thanksgiving feast. Give back and help people and do a lot more for the community. I know these D.C. look lucrative WTO peanuts. As usual, lots of places are closed today. Schools, banks, libraries, government offices. But if you're cooking and you forgot that one item, you really need. There are supermarkets that are open like giant or whole foods, not all supermarkets, though. Trader Joe's target, Walmart Costco, those are closed, metro, by the way, running on a Sunday schedule. Once you have that meal, then the cleanup begins. Pouring cooking grease down the drain is. The recipe for a disaster because it's going to form a dam. And the next time you go to flush that toilet, it's a messy problem, it's an expensive problem. Lynne riggins with WSC water says it happens at dozens of homes on Thanksgiving, but there's a safe way to dump it. Can it cool it? Toss it. Any cooking grease needs to go in a can, let it cool and throw it in the trash. Where you getting says her agency contract who's ditching grease, the wrong way. People cooking are still dumping that grease down the sink. And it's causing a big problem. Gigi Barnett. "That last minute sweet potato or cranberries for your Thanksgiving feast. And while you're out getting those errands done hundreds of volunteers are spending their morning, delivering meals to area families dealing with severe illnesses. 8500 pounds of turkey, a thousand pounds of roasted potatoes and nearly a hundred gallons of gravy. It's being packed up by the nonprofit food and friends here on rigs road on top of the struggle of dealing with these life threatening illnesses, food and Friends say high inflation and rising costs of medication are forcing many of these folks to think about skipping big Thanksgiving meals, but later this morning around 200 volunteers will come pick up the food at the fort totten metro parking lot and deliver the 4500 meals all across the DMV just in time for Thanksgiving feast. Forget an ingredient for Thanksgiving dinner, no worries, most supermarkets and pharmacies will be open, but most other retail stores like Walmart target and Best Buy, shutting down. And don't expect any deliveries either. FedEx and UPS are giving most workers the day off. Gigi Barnett news. It's going to be a great day to get outside later on this Thanksgiving. "At the top stories we're following. Breaking news related to Tuesday's deadly mass shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, police have not said anything about a motive yet, but we're learning that the 31 year old shooter Andre Bing, who was a manager at the store, may have had a manifesto. A law enforcement source has told our investigative team that this individual may have had a manifesto on their phone and directly targeted the individuals that were shot and killed. W avy reporter Brett hall says the manifesto included grievances about recent changes in employment status, police say the shooter killed 6 people and injured 6 others before turning the gun on himself. Chesapeake police chief Mark zelensky. The first officers arrived on scene within two minutes at ten 14 and entered the store approximately two minutes later at ten 16. The first responding officers entered the store and the scene was declared safe by 1120 p.m.. 5 of the victims who were killed have been identified as Lorenzo gamble, Brian Pendleton, Kelly pyle, Randall blevins and tanika Johnson. The 6th who was killed is 16 years old and their identity is being withheld because they are a minor. With more on the shooting investigation, here's WTO Sean and Hillary talking with CBS Skyler Henry. Officer still remain here on the scene. We are in the parking lot of this Chesapeake Walmart, which is about 15 minutes south of Norfolk, agents are here from the FBI, as well as law enforcement officers from Virginia state police as well as the Chesapeake police department. But we're continuing to learn more about not only the victims who were shot and killed, but also about this case altogether. We know that officers responded to shots fired here at the Walmart officers got here at about two minutes and got into the building two minutes after that. They were able to clear the building at about an hour or so, but they found all of the victims in the Walmart, two of which were in the break room along with the gunman who died by a self inflicted gunshot wound and other victim was found at the front of the store, others were taken to area hospitals where they died. We're also learning the condition of other individuals who were injured in the shooting three of which were injured by gunshots, others were injured by other injuries surrounding this case. We have i-d-ed the gunman. We're also learning who that person is. Walmart says that it is an individual who has worked here since 2010. They're IDing him as 31 year old Jerry Bing, who is a overnight team lead, otherwise a manager here. Now the interesting part of this is that there was still very much an open store here at this Walmart as staffers were working to make sure that everything is stocked up for Black Friday as well as those Thanksgiving shoppers who were here. And so officers say that they had about an hour or so to be able to clear out this scene. They're still trying to get to the bottom of why they did this. Then guys had really just breaks your heart considering that we were so close to Thanksgiving and the fact that this state just saw another mass shooting in recent weeks over in Charlottesville. Hey, quickly before we go, have witnesses suggested anything to police about what may have transpired before this or has this worker had any sorts of run ins before with management. If that is the case, we are working to find that out, but nothing of note that police has said yet, we have heard from some of the witnesses who were inside of the building at the time of the shooting. They said that they had just left the break room when this manager, Andre Bing started to open fire, but they were able to get out. They hadn't said that there was some sort of disgruntled situation that had led up to the shooting. And if there was anybody that was specifically targeted or if this was at random. And so I think that that is still very much a part of the investigation that officers are trying to figure out, but there is still very much an active crime scene here. I can tell you that the store is also closed as well. It will be for the foreseeable future, at least that's what the officers have set up until this point as they try to get to the bottom of why this happened. That CBS News correspondent Skylar Henry talking with WTO he's Shawn and Hillary. We have an update now on the deadly shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, the alleged shooter Anderson Aldrich has been ordered held without bail. Police say 5 people were killed, 17 were injured in that shooting last weekend. The suspect is facing possible murder and hate crime charges. Security is tight in New York ahead of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. There are no credible or specific threats to New York City NYPD commissioner keyshawn sewell is trying to ease the minds of millions who align the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade route in midtown Manhattan, some of whom come from all over the world. It's a two and a half mile procession featuring 16 giant character balloons, 28 floats, and 12 marching bands. That piper, CBS News, New York. Most places are closed on Thanksgiving, but there are some options for you if you need to do some last minute shopping. There's always one that one Thanksgiving dinner ingredient that's forgotten. If that happens this year, no worries. Some grocery stores and pharmacies will open on turkey day. But other retailers like Walmart and targets say their lights will be out. What about last minute travel options to your Thanksgiving dinner spot?
