"Campo. LeBron James just had an MVP caliber season. But LeBron right now is 35 turned 36 in December Co I, Leonard. Good, very good, obviously regular season player great regular season player but just becomes a superstar in the postseason. He just turned 29 in June. So in five years, I don't know what LeBron's gonna be doing. Kawai help still be playing basketball. The honesty is going to be a two time MVP. Also just one defensive player of the year. I know a lot of people are Luca dances train, and I do think I do think Dodge is gonna win a few M V P s in this league. Right now, though, When I look at the young players, how can I? How can't I continue? To bet and double down on Yannis onto the coop when we've already seen him When an M V P and probably going to win another one this year, So five years from now, you Jonathan Cooper will be the best player in the league. Yeah, I'll still say so. So I give him on sides. Right. So the 70 Sixers are looking for a new coach after firing Brett Brown and some of the rumors have Thai Lewis the top target. That's according to Adrian. War generosity of ESPN. Aside from getting crossed up and stepped over ballot by Allen Iverson is a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, The 22,001 MBA finals. Who is best known for coaching LeBron James to an N BA championship, so onside or offsides tie, Luke will be the next head coach of the 76. I also saw a report today on the contrary that Keith Pompeii, who covers the sixes for the Philadelphia Inquirer, reported that Los Angeles Lakers assistant Jason Kidd Let me redo that Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Wants the 76 years coaching job, according to multiple league sources. So, as I said, for other things, when it comes out that you want the job does the other team want.

"They could I've heard that they will others have reported that they will. So I, I would expect Kevin to receive a full five-year supermax offer from the Golden State Warriors. All right. I'll be surprised otherwise we have not spoken. Since the entire Al Horford thing popped and the Celtics. So much has happened since last week. Man. I know that happened. Wow. The word is out. The word is out like the name that keeps popping up as Dallas as a possible destination. Obviously, he's thirty three he'd be thirty seven by the end of a four year deal would how Horford twofold, number one Horford feels like the kind of guy that is not a superstar but has superstar level impact. Meaning he makes you good right? Like it's hard to imagine how Horford on a bad team, you would really have to have crappy players if you because he's so good defensively, and he's so good offensively. And he makes people better on both ends of the court. I feel like his impact is tremendous where do you think Al Horford would be a great fit is at Dallas as a great fit in your mind's eye, and where do. You go from here. If you're the Celtics for Horford like he's a fit anywhere. He's the type of guy where he can fit into any type of system, you can use them at center, if you need to you can use them at the four, if you need to because of the offense of spacing provides the playmaking that he provides with his ability in the half court or go and coast to coast. And then, as you mentioned, Chris has defensive ability as protect rim-protector in a guy who can switch Horford has lost a little bit of a step, and he had a knee issue last year that should be at least mildly concerning. If you're giving him a four year deal over one hundred million dollars as was rumored by Jackie MacMullan, and Mark Stein. But with Horford he's a fit. He was he somebody who can accelerate the Mavericks, young core and offer support for Kristaps forcing us and Luca Dontrelle. She somebody who could complement Colli Leonard, if you were to go to the clippers and again, make stabilize them in the front court, give them a veteran presence he somebody. Or if you went to the Lakers, he somebody who could work next to me, Anthony Davis, if he goes to the Sixers as was rumored from Tom Harris stroke. Oh. And Keith Pompeii from the Philadelphia Inquirer, if they lose out on Jimmy Butler, and, or Tobias Harris Al Horford somebody that like how many teams can defend a front court with the size and skill of Horford. Embiid Simmons everybody talks about small ball, which has long been overrated in overblown. Small ball is a myth teams. Do go smaller, but guards or bigger in today's -ly wings are bigger in today's league teams still play with size and a lot of the teams that are up and coming have big players just big guys, the Yokich and beads Yana says the Ben Simmons like there's a lot of big players you need size. Today's league small balls is a myth in regards to Horford like how many teams can defend that jumbo lineup? There are not. There are a lot of teams that can play smaller and traditional, but there aren't many teams that can play jumbo like that. Sixers team and still have spacing with Horford him. Simmons remains in issue shooting. The wrong hand inability to space to floor. However, like that size that would be presented with skill. That's a difficult issue that teams would have to try to solve. So the Sixers are intriguing. I, I don't think he'll go there, but it's intriguing them less Chris Horford, confront anywhere, man..

"That is how you jump aboard. We have a lot to get to know forget we're going to end as we started last week. Our our new weekly tradition. Oh, yes. I forgot about the Keith Pompeii comments section. Yes. Right. So the last week we did it not keep Pompeii stories because we're in support of keep pumping comments from Keith Pompeii. No, no, no, the comments from the the Keith Pompeii articles on on Philly dot com. Are so a red over dramatic music comes up at the end of the hour. Thank you for remember until then while we have a lot to get into hunting last night. Spike, a win for the Sixers a good win and one they really led from start to finish. There was more than just the win over a undermanned Lakers team. It was the way it looked and what Brett Brown did with his positions including Jimmy Butler playing some point guard and Ben Simmons playing a lot off the ball last night. Yeah. It has happened a little more. They've had to do it because of Butler's desire to run pick and roll and and take shots. And Bret said that before the game last night Jimmy was going to run some point. He did run some point during the game. I don't actually watching it. I don't think Jimmy Butler is particularly effective doing that. But ever since he got here, there's been more Ben Simmons posting up. There's been more Ben Simmons setting screens enrolling and more than anything. There's been more activity with him off the ball and give him credit because I think ever since he got here. He's been very stuck on calling himself a point guard and being a point guard and not being as identity. But the truth is is that he is built his game is built to not be the primary initiator on offense. Like, I don't think that Ben Simmons is a point guard. He may be at one point in his career in two or three years, but a point guard needs to do two things in the half court point guard needs to be able to create offense off the dribble. The fact that they do not guard him on the perimeter makes it almost impossible for Ben Simmons to create offense on the perimeter. The second thing that a point guard needs to do in the half court is be able to hit open shots, and Ben Simmons doesn't do that. We see him against good defenses against Boston against Toronto against Milwaukee smart defenses. They pack the paint they make it hard on him. Ben Simmons is best playing with a point guard. Not being a point guard. I'm fine with Ben Simmons catching the ball off off a defensive rebound and pushing it and seeing if there's something there. I I'm fine with him even bringing the ball up at every time. But if there isn't something for him to get immediately and for him to attack. He's gotta play differently. He's got to play off the ball because I think in the most crucial situations, and what we saw last year is that even though he is a much more pro Ben Simmons today than I was three months ago. He's a fantastic player. And I think he can be a real difference maker. But I do think that when he is playing point guard in the half court most of the time he's holding the team back. I don't think Ben Simmons is point guard at least not now. Well, then what is Ben Simmons? Because I look at Ben spike, and I say his best skill is his ability to pass he's got this physical tools. He can at speed, but his passing ability and offense is the best thing. He does if he doesn't have the ball in his hand, you're taking that away from him. I think there's a difference. There's a different not having a ball on your hand. And not having the ball in your hand on the perimeter with the dribble. I think there are several different ways. The Ben Simmons can utilize his passing that is going to be more effective than him standing on the perimeter. And hoping somebody gets open the open court stuff when he posts up like that is one of the things that Embiid has yet to really add into his game. I'm sorry is being a a really good passer out of the post when he gets double team whoever is guarding. Ben Simmons in the half court in in the post, unless it's a center is going to be a mismatch from Ben Simmons. And the other thing is when he is playing four when you're forcing forwards to guard him, I think that's more of a mismatch then a guard who can easily guard him on the perimeter. So he's able to pass out of out of the post. He's able to pass when he when he pushes the ball when they tried to do some some pace stuff. I actually think he's really effective passing off of cuts. You know, when when when when when they're running pick and roll elsewhere and he cuts if there's not a shot for him immediately. He's a really good. He's really good at passing to the corner and finally open man that way, I think he is sort of offense. At this point better served as a an ultra Draymond green, Draymond green. Who is who is an even better passer. And even better ball handler in the half court. Then then he is now, and I don't think none of this takes away the necessity for him to eventually learn to shoot because a four in the NBA has to be able to shoot you have to be able to spot up. But I just think right now him moving off the ball in the half court is way more effective than him having the bomb. The other part of this though is they don't have a natural point guard. That's the other problem play this position if he's going to do more of what he's done. So an Jimmy Butler. Did it last night? They won the game. And whatever Lakers aren't very good right now without LeBron James. But if they I guess this is why they drafted Marquel? Foltz? They have to forget about right? They may have had this in mind that that moving forward. Maybe he's best doing kind of what you're saying. He could do, but they don't have that right now. So I still want to see him play point guard. Because what else are they going to do Butler's going to play this all the time? I think they have to split the duties, and I know it hasn't been particularly effective for McConnell the play with Simmons. It. It hasn't worked. Shoot. Yeah. But, but I think that model I I think if you take if Ben Simmons is on the court for thirty six minutes a game and for twelve minutes of it. He's playing point guard and for twenty minutes of it. Jimmy Butler is playing point guard and free other six minutes of it teaching McConnell's playing point guard. I think that's there. I think that.

"So excited. You had me going there for a minute. You know, it's funny. Good morning, everybody. He's right dingy. I'm blind. Mac. Now words alley ShopRite. Williamstown New Jersey come on by got some nice people watching the show here on the benches. And of course, they have the rain Glenn breakfast brunch. Buffet going on during our show, a great meal discount price in all the other good stuff. This is Ray kind of the gap week. It's so funny because you and I've been doing this job for so so long, you know, the cycles and football season's easy for us. And the last couple of years it's been particularly easy because the eagles go into the playoffs and interest is really high. And let's be honest Ray, you could roll out of bed. Put on a pair of sweat pants turn on the microphone, and you're good. Yeah. Yeah. Well that just ended is the eagles the eagles season. Oh now, we have to work. Now, we have to work, which is okay now, they pay us. We'll do it. Sure. And today is probably one of those days. There's no football today. This is the week. Well, there's the Pro Bowl. We'll get to that. This is the week before the Super Bowl. It's kind of a low for the local teams. Let's let's we'll kind of go. Let's go through it. All there's few themes. I want to get to today that we think it'll be fun for the listeners. But let's kind of cover the cover the waterfront I here with the news. The Sixers play last night Keith Pompeii of the Enquirer. I I loved his lead on this. It wasn't quite like bringing a butter knife to a gunfight, but the seventy Sixers were definitely overmatched on paper and on wood. That's very good. I like that nice job. They played on deadline yet. Yeah. Although some of those you end up like you're writing on the car on the way to the building thing. Like, you know, they're going to get blown out tonight. If they do how am I gonna do? Okay. You could have written that one one o'clock in the afternoon, right? We've been there. Anyway, they played the Denver Nuggets last night in Denver without Joel Embiid without Jimmy Butler without power forward. Wilson chandler. They kinda hung in. I I didn't watch the game. I tuned it in like once or twice just to just to get an update they hung in for a while. They ended up losing by sixteen points and be get tonight up to rest. He's been playing with the back injury. Chandler's got the he's got hamstring tightness or something. And of course, Jimmy Butler got the wrist issue that he wants to see a specialist. All I got under Sixers you got anything. No. That's it. Happy to discuss. It. Anybody got anything? We'll do it yesterday. We talked about whether or not Jimmy Butler is going to be a long term solution or whether he's going to be so problematic. They got to get rid of them. You're invited to call us and talk about the Sixers second thing. Pro Bowl is today as we said before here's the thing that shocked me, right? I'm thinking to myself who would ever watch the Pro Bowl like it. I think in this is another old theme that I don't want to go over. But I think the Pro Bowl is the single worst event on the annual sports calendar. Okay. We I would certainly say it's you can think about if you got one that might top it. I know I I was thinking just in the context of other all star games. We talked about that yesterday. I I think it's it's clearly the least appealing of the four of the form all star games. You know, the the worst single sporting event. I don't know. I hadn't thought about that. Maybe. Okay. See if you can top it. We'll throw that topic. Sure. I not just as a sporting event. I think it's the worst event on the sports calendar as in. Selection Sunday, which is actually good one. It doesn't even have to be a game. I just think it's the worst thing on sports related anything on TV through the course of an entire year. I'll take nominations, I guess since we're talking currently we're not talking about all time. So like the battle of the network stars. No, no. That's gotta be an annual thing. Muhammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki. No, no, no. No, no. I'm talking about the the the the competition of the TV actors that one with telly Savalas and the in the high hurdles, how did you not like that? Oh, no, no, actually hold on. I love when we get sidetracked. I love him. We have a show and it's just off the rails. Immediately. I agree with you there watching Gabe Kappler run wind sprints against Sherman. Hemsley was not Robert Conrad and Robert don't forget that knocked the battery off my shoulder area. Go that was not really riveting. Yeah. But you know, what show? I did. It wasn't. Yeah. Wasn't Carl Lewis Ben Johnson. I will grant you that. But you know, what show was great. I don't remember what it was called. But it was it was the flip side of that where they would have real athletes compete in other sports time. Joe Frazier almost drowned. That was called superstars superstars superstar was Cosell. The host of that you're getting it backwards. Well, I think Cousteau's the host of both of them. Okay. They're they're all on ABC's. The battle of the network stars. That was certainly abbot Konrad you need to run a mile here. And we have penny Marshall and the baseball toss. That's great television. That was terrible. But I would hate, but what's to tell you. I would sooner watch that. Again, the Pro Bowl today to Ray, I'm sure you can find it on YouTube. But I did enjoy when they had the other athletes compete in different sports. I remember that. Yeah. I think a golfer has to throw a shot put and all that nonsense. Was the superstars I remember who won that. I actually remember who won at least one year real. It was an outside the box upset where who's this guy? Why? No if they did it more than one year. I just remember one year the volleyball player Karch Karai did extremely well. I I don't think he won it. But I think he finished pretty high. Ray I give you Kyle rote junior. Oh, that's right. The soccer player. Right. That's right. Which steamed me because I was are always arguing the soccer was not even a sport. Yeah. That's big of you to even bring it up considering undercut your argument is shut me up at the time. Yeah. Anyway. All right. No, none of that. Here's oh. And just on the Pro Bowl because I agreed with you yesterday. When you ordered the watch ability of the all star games as what I said baseball one basketball to hockey three and the Pro Bowl four, right? And you know, why that is because that is the inverse order of them as team sports. Yeah. Football is the sport. That relies most on teamwork and the guys around you and operating unit. I would argue then hockey in third basketball and baseball is the most individuals were it's a pitcher in. It's a hitter. Correct. Even two guys who don't know each other. Well, can turn a double play. Sure. You can't do that in football. And the other issue with of course, nobody wants to get hurt. So guys are kind of taking it easy. But I think that's why those all star games are in the order. They are now. That's that's very good. I think the your your idea of the inverse relationship to teamwork. So the all star game makes perfect sense. Yeah. I guess that that is why it is. But here's the thing with the Pro Bowl. And by the way, love you. I gave you the challenge. Find main event. On the annual sports calendar worse than the Pro Bowl. Think about you. You got three hours. Here's the thing last year. The Pro Bowl was watched by nine million people. Yeah. I know. Which was up twenty six percent in the ratings from the year before I don't know. Why did so poorly the year before? Seven point six million people watched that thing. Which these days in TV? No, no, I'm sorry. That's wrong. Ten point one million people watch that thing last year's Pro Bowl, which these days is good on TV in this country. If you can get ten million people watch anything, you're doing a good job. So my theory with that is. It's football. And if you put football on TV with NFL logos, right? It's done really carry to college. But if you put NFL logos. And you put them on TV and have people run around you're going to get ratings. This is what the owners learned in the one thousand nine hundred seven strike when they brought the scabs and people watched it not in Philadelphia, but everywhere else. Thank goodness. Thank goodness. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And you know, what I think has helped them a little bit. Even though I the game is still the game. And that's not going to change is playing the week before the Super Bowl because it used to come after the Super Bowl, and then the ratings were really poor because most people tune out after the super after the Subaru we kind of had your fill of it. And so this Pro Bowl came the next week and everybody had really moved on by them. When you the their idea of dropping it in the Sunday before the Super Bowl, I think people's attention is still on football. And and so you don't have the same. Switch off factor. A couple of other issues on the Pro Bowl. They are. In addition to it being on ABC and ESPN. They are running it today on the Disney channel or Disney X D, which is a kids channel interesting marketing strategy. Yeah. They wanna get the next generation. So they're going to show on the Pro Bowl. Yeah. Good luck. I think kids are gonna sit around and watch it. And I don't know why kids can't find it on ESPN. But you know, they they wanna put it on more of their stations like trying to it's like they're trying to win over the European football audience by sending them the Jaguars and the dolphins. Every year. Oh, okay. If you wanna if you wanna try, and convert people or get them to view your product, you shouldn't show them the worst of your product. Okay. But here's why it may work with kids. And this is getting this Ray, I love you. This is gonna make you rich. Okay. Okay. They're going to have microphones and cameras and all the referees. Okay. Which is good. They should give sunglasses and kings. But that's a separate issue. They're going to have players miked up an interview them while they are on the field during the game. They're going to do every high tech when they throw the ball. They're going to measure the arc and the range in in the Gabe Kaplan is going to do the math on this thing. So that's what they're gonna do launch angle of. Yeah. Launch angle of Andrew Lux passes. Oh, my Jim sorry. I'm gonna miss it. Got other plans. Oh, well, I, you know, a lot of this is just what's the scary part about it is. I mean, you can sort of laugh it off that oh, it's the Pro Bowl. And who cares? But what this really is is it's they're sort of test marketing this stuff to bring it into actual real NFL games somewhere. Hey, this work this work this were so let's put it into the games next year. I don't want you know, I don't want that they're going. You know, they're going to go with this. You know, they love the sports science stuff. They love adding into the broadcast. They love more camera angles microphones, and so on in all of this stuff will certainly become part of the coverage in the next couple of years. Yeah. No question about it. Enjoy yourself. What are they doing to my game? Well, the one last thing. Oh, please. Now, this is piling on now. Broadcasters are today. Is it the Monday night crew is it tests booger and wit. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse. Oh, my. You you you had that peg from the beginning you said from week one that that crew was a disaster. And I I tried to be a gentleman about it. And I said you could give them a little time. They gotta work it out. I mean, my goodness of just been put together now. Give them a few weeks. And you know, they'll they'll get they'll get it down. They'll get the rhythm down. And by the end of the year. People are trying to make saying, oh, it's better. It's not. I mean by the end of the year, they scrapped the Booker mobile, but they weren't able to make it because fans are throwing stuff at people pay top money for the low level. Great fifty yards seats. And there's this guy writing this, huge contraption blocking their entire view. And that was a good idea. You think people would rebel against that? Yeah. Somebody suggested that Tony Romo has become such a smash as an analyst. And rightly so I think he's really good shockingly for it didn't have a lot of background. But I I saw one thing that said that apparently his contract is up at the end of this year. And that ESPN would be would be well served to pay whatever they need to pay to hire Tony Romo and put him together with Jason Witten in the booth considering the two of them are best friends that if the best way to salvage Jason win is put him next to his good friend, which is what everybody wants us to not one. But two Dallas Cowboys broadcasting Monday night football. You're killing me. Right. You're. Know to make you feel a little better. I don't think there's any chance in the world of that happening here. Let me I'll be entirely honest with you. I think we're almost terrific. He's very good. He's good. There. Are he is the best I've ever seen at looking at the game and telling you what's going to happen. Now, there are people who really don't like that. Let me watch the game. Don't tell me what's going to happen. Let me be surprised. On the other hand. It's so impressive. When he says, oh, look at this. They sent this guy emotion. They're going to run to the right or whatever. I mean. He's just great at it. And I think his inside is terrific. I was wrong. When I said, how are they taking this guy who's never broadcast TV and putting them on the first team. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Yeah. You know, I understand hiring is a former quarterback he's personable. But you start him on the third unit. You move up. They got that one. Right..

"You know, they feel will be in the playoffs. And by the way, also shutout out to James Jones, who very wisely sort of let it I don't know if he let it leak, I'm you know, all of our reporters did a good job. Finding an buddy James would say certain teams would say that. He let it leak that. He was interested in trading Reza, maybe even to the Lakers, which would get other teams sort of to bump up. There is reporting this weekend that Robert server didn't want to deal with the Lakers and all who knows sort of Migo younger new bay. I think Kelly Oubre exit a good player. Yeah. We'll have to see what happens this summer though, because he's going to want some money and entitled could even move this season. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. Let's get to the Philadelphia situation 'cause Keith Pompeii from the Philadelphia Inquirer reporting that Sixers ownership is split on what to do with former number one pick Marquel. Folks, apparently, some within the organization or most worried about full blooming into the star. They thought he was on draft night on a different team. So then. Want to give up on him yet? But if they do decide to trade Foltz, they're asking price is a first round pick. Kevin. Which would you be on? If you were there for an office. You've spent a ton of time in Philadelphia. So you are very familiar with personnel. These splits aren't unusual of teams brasses the supreme court there. Concurring opinions dissenting. Opinions dash no scandal. I think right now they need to do is assign. What is the value of Marquel? Full to the franchise. You have to forget about. He was our number one pick. That is a sunk cost us a player on their roster with some developmental issues who has great potential, and I think the question is, you know, like the other twenty nine teams the question is would we take Foltz with the draft pick that we would be surrendering. So if you're the Phoenix Suns, and you have the bucks pick. Now, it's probably going to be conveyed this year. But maybe next year it's a twenty three twenty four. Would you take Mark helpful everything, you know, about him his contract, which is a rookie deal with a pick would get Mike you an inferior player. And I think there are some of these younger teams now bursts. Round pick. No, no, only in the sense that I think a lot of the teams that'd be candidates revolts who by definition right now are lousy probably more thirty first thirty second thirty third thirty fourth pick. But I think getting serious about assessing his value to the franchises imperative before much more time on and that's what's going on there. They have to come to agreement. Was that adventure? You be on. If you were making this decision. I wouldn't do it. I I had a story last week in a guy named Ben who's oh who had the same element that folks had and basically imagine playing basketball and losing feeling in your shooting on that's essentially what happened to them ouzo is not an NBA anymore. He's he's still playing for Nigeria's national team is finding success. He's he's finding ways to get better. He wants to talk to Marco, maybe he's talked already. I think that the Sixers need to figure out whatever he did. Because it was successful. And bring it to this kid is a kid this young player. They got time. You know, try try to rehab them, and perhaps giving up on them could be a mistake. And I think the way you say that about this. On cost. I do think that's important to remember. I have a friend who would buy something to eat, and it would cost decent amount. Right. And then it would be crappy or spoiled, and they would be like, oh, I gotta eat it. Anyway, anyways, been a lot of money, then you're also spending money and giving yourself with stomach ache. It's the same idea. You can't just force yourself because you spent that first round that number one overall pick that being said, I do worry about the cost to the franchise..

"Embiid got. Think I knew that reference? Probably not. But why not? So Joel Embiid. There's an article that comes out from Keith Pompeii. Joel embiid's pretty upset with the way that he's being used now. The way he's being used as a lot at the three point line. You see him out there? Everyone complains about it. He's not a great three point shooter. He's capable you have to respect the threat, but he's not a great three point shooter. And maybe it gets better. But for now, you want to see him in the block, that's what he was doing a lot earlier in the season before the Butler trade Embiid said that in the article, and so you want to see him down there. The tough thing is there's not a whole lot. You can do to fix it. Because Simmons can't shoot yet. There's no real solution here. So the one thing I will say is as much as Ben Simmons is not given a fair shake here in terms of developing and growing. I do understand the idea of wanting to trade him. I would entertain it. Because he is elite. And everybody's going to be interested in the young elite talent if you can get a team because here's the thing. The Sixers are built around Joel Embiid. They should be. He's their best player. So that's who you want to build around. How do you maximize Embiid? That's how you win. So if Simmons and Embiid is not a perfect fit. And we don't see them do a lot of things together as good as they both are independently. I would certainly entertain it. You're not going to do it now. But after the season if a team came calling, and you could get another veteran superstar maybe to team up with Butler and bead say guy like I don't know how this would work, but say clay clay, three agent this year. I think you've clay might even be a free agent. Clay clay is going to be a free agent. Kevin Durant is going to be a free agent. All right. Say trade, Ben Simmons, you signed Durant. Which would just be the craziest thing ever. But why not we're signing Bryce Harper? That's going to happen. We got Jimmy Butler. We won a Super Bowl, do whatever the hell. We want this year. So so given all of that. Maybe you sign those guys, and you trade Simmons, and you get a lot of depth players and picks. I dunno or a really good fourth and a couple of players. I don't know. But I would entertain the idea with Simmons trading beat because it is all about Embiid, and he's not happy. And he's not as effective as it could be now, the tough thing is it does work when he's out there to three point line. It's not the best thing. But it's still a good thing. He can score. He has been an MVP for most of the season and J J Redick plays. Really? Well when he's out there. So it's frustrating. Yes. And it's for the fans, and from beat as well, I think it's a sigh of relief for a lot of fans to hear him say that oh my God beads Maddie's out at the three point line too. He's critical to. So he is. And that's why we are going to have these conversations about Ben Simmons getting traded. I understand it makes a lot of sense. And here's the thing with the NBA when you're superstar player demand. Something a lot of times, they get it. Embiid and Simmons not all that close as far as we know. I haven't seen them be best buds. We don't hear about it. But gets along with everybody. Really? Well, seems to be tight with Embiid seems to be titled Simmons. But. It's sort of like, George and Elaine with Seinfeld, right? There's that one episode where George and Elaine go out together without Jerry like, wow, I didn't think we were friends outside of Jerry. We just needed Jerry there all the time. What do you know? We're actually kind of friends now tell impeded sevens. Feels like so if Embiid get to the point where he's so fed up with the way that he's playing and he's a hyper competitive guy. Then I wouldn't be surprised if trade rumors did pop up for Ben Simmons next year in the off season for sure you give it a run this year, you have to now the butlers here, and you got Simmons give it run go. And it might be for another two years that we see this thing. I'd be okay with another off season. You see if Simmons does finally start to shoot. And then what does the offense? Look like if Simmons does grow a shot, man. It could be incredibly great is greatest. We've dreamed it up to be. But now that it's public then Embiid is not happy with the way that the offense works. It's totally going to change things around here. The way that we look at this night in night out is going to be different because you have a bona fide superstar MVP candidate in his youth his early prime years you can say before his prime years. And he wants something different. Would you consider trading? Ben simmons. I would. As much as I feel like he doesn't get enough respect in this town to say, you wouldn't consider trading him. If it was the better fit for Embiid. It is crazy. Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four pound nine four nine four on your AT and T Verizon wireless cell phone. So let's go to the phones. Let's talk to Robin doylestown, rob your own WIP. At least four people tweeted the same article by Keith Pompeii. It's a big bad to say to Joel Embiid. Get over it. We'll get get over. And I thought the problem is going to be between Butler and Simmons Simmons is trying to adapt. I don't see Joel Embiid trying to adapt. I don't think they've really asked him to adapt. Well, I think that's exactly why Brett Brown side him down. Tonight was show him that he needs to adapt. Just like everybody else. So don't worry about JJ or TJ. They they are perpetual motion machines. Well, he said the comment at the same time that he was also saying he shouldn't have been resting. So he knew that he was being out at this point. And he didn't say it as as a reaction if you will. I don't know. No, you said it before it, and that's why Brett Brown sat him down because he said watch this game tonight watch how Ben Simmons adapts to plane with. No. Because here's the thing Simmons has adapted all year. And that's why I give this guy a lot of credit and feel like he doesn't get enough credit. Knock your platform. I'm sorry. For Ben Simmons. You're not gonna get swat. You wanna trade 'em away? Just to get rid of them. Go ahead. Come on. You're not just the off loading Ben Simmons. He's not meet at the supermarket that didn't sell e can't shoot. So he does you can still build a team around ten. John is right now. John is right now. Doing the six ten point guard to can't defend five physicians floor vision. Oh, come on. You're totally underrating. Ben Simmons right now. Okay. Maybe I am. Maybe I am. You are a lot of people consider him a top twenty five player. Well, a lot of people don't and I'm one of them. Yeah. It's not a gr-. I understand that he can't shoot yet. But he's also twenty two years old. And does so many things next year. He'll be twenty three. Oh, you don't know that because we haven't seen. No that has had players developed a shot once they got to the NBA. I don't know. We don't see it on the court. Jeep shoots it in practice. It's well documented that new shoots in practice. Are you telling me that he goes to practice and Brown would let him for the last three years? He's been here now because he had the off year, and he just let him never take a jump shot and practice, what does he shoot from the foul line? Vince. Like sixty percent this year. It's not it's not great. It's a step up from what it was last year. It's not a big step up. But it's a small step. If you're looking for improvements with the shot, you gotta find little things here and there because we don't have a lot to look at. And so. Fulson? I think Joel Embiid lice Marquel? Full more than he does Ben Simmons as a guy maybe he does. But as a player come on. Foltz is so much more limited than Simmons. How so all he hasn't data is a hitch in his shot. Maybe he does have a problem with his shoulder. And he doesn't wanna talk about it. Maybe he does. And and people can try to believe that. But I certainly don't there's no way. I've heard too many national people that are plugged in. Because here's the thing as much as we get all this stuff on social media. You know tweets and all these live reporters twenty four hour news coverage of sports, there's eight different ESPN channels as much as we get all that information. We feel like we know everything that happens with these players with these teams, we don't know all that much behind the scenes there's so much information. That goes on the people who are plugged in can't say think about that. It's it's top secret information that guys like, whoa. Have the guy's league Zach Lowe have and I've listened to his podcast. I listen to basically everyone does. And he's been talking about Fulton's lot recently when I've got a guy who's one of the most plugged in people in basketball, one of the most well respected people in basketball. And he's saying that well, yeah. Hope it's that stuff. But it doesn't seem to be a lot of people are telling me that it doesn't look that way. It's mental. He's not saying that word for word. But that's what he strongly hinting at. I can't believe that. It's the shoulder. Here's the other thing, by the way, think about the diagnosis for Marquel Foltz and his shoulder. Right. What happened? He sees ten specialists one two three four five six seven eight nine of them. Everything's fine. Don't have a diagnosis. So what do you do? When you go to the next one you go to number ten. He is a professional athlete that has access to the best doctors in the world people who regularly deal with basketball players for his very specific set of skills and muscles, and all that stuff and nine straight people said that we don't see anything wrong here. And once the ten guy says, well, actually, you have thrashed outlet syndrome, which nobody. NBA ever has. And that's is. In fact, the source of your problem. You're going to believe the one doctor out of ten the tenth guy out of ten. That's who we're going to believe when it comes to Markelle folks get out of here. There is no way. Unless Marquel Foltz shows up and starts draining threes and looking like the guy of old. I don't see anything else happening here. There's if I had to put a percentage on it of Marquel? Foltz not being a mental issue. I'd say one percent. Because I'm feeling generous. I'm feeling generous enough to not say zero I will give him one. I don't buy it, by the way, what happened to the wrist injury. What happened I heard about arrest? I it was the shoulder wasn't because he got bench and lost his minutes. It was it was the shoulder. So okay Marquel. Will humor you on that? Go ahead and talk to everybody about your shoulder..

"Continuum. Of the success that we Garnett last year, and rightfully so. But that success has not come easy. So it's going to be a struggle. And we want to get you involved in that conversation to kind of pick apart some of the struggle. That's going on. We also spoke about where the seventy Sixers are at the present time because we have passed the quarter Mark twenty games into the season. Six is actually a pay twenty four. They play this evening at six and they play Memphis. Remember, Memphis, beat the seventy Sixers in Memphis. I saw had some success against Joel Embiid because he was able to keep him out of the low post to a large degree enforcing more to the perimeter. Why you're saying that Sonny because what Joe L has to do is that he has to manhandle whom ever is playing him to deny him from getting to the low post position that he would like so that he can score and be extremely effective. So what's going to be an interesting gain? Because as you look at what's going on. In the division are the Eastern Conference division. You find that? The Sixers are in a good spot. Even though they struggled a little bit here or there, but they are sixteen eight but the team that is in front and the one that people are talking about is Toronto. And Toronto is twenty four. And it looks like. They will be a team to reckon with now just saw something in the paper. They were Kara Lowrey. Aged is back and he is one of the driving forces behind Toronto. Kyle also is one of our own not only Villanova but Philadelphia bread basketball player. So that's another piece that we wanna keep an eye on because Boston has been struggling. We have Milwaukee that has grabbed the attention loss last night. In New York and Detroit is a team that's quietly creeping up in terms of their style of play and what they're doing Indiana's also in the mix. So it's that time where you begin to evaluate and kind of look at okay, where is all of this going from that point of view? We're gonna go to the phones and we're going to say good morning to. Dennis and mount laurel good morning. Dennis William Randolph. All right now. Basketball. Talk to me your funding from Trenton how you doing? I'm doing fabulous. I got two quick points before splits, quote, number one. What a great man, President Bush. Well. Okay. Number two back in nineteen seventy seven kidney. Why are you hitting your phone? Something's going. Okay. Jimmy Carter visited Trenton New Jersey. I just married. This was nineteen seventy seven my wife said an invitation to the White House, President Carter over their spaghetti dinner to our home Roman Trenton responded, saying thank you. But we can't the president's. I tend terrific is to full. We still had that letter. Okay. That's a nice one. Yeah. And if you're a great Christmas song Christmas old Lang Zion by Bobby, Darin, producer, cues it up. What do you what do, you know about Bobby, Darin? He died way too young. It's okay. That's one thing. What else do, you know about Bobby, Darin? He had. Illness from child. No, no, no, no, Bobby, Darin who then became a big time. Movie-star? Yes. Okay. But Bobby, Darin growing up. Was a singer. And I mean, a big time singer. Yep. Split splash. No, that's that's there that crossed over split splash crossed over from white radio to black radio when when that did not occur with any consistency. Even with black singers not being able to move over to the white station. So he he was able to do that. Do you know who he model his style after? No, you don't. All right. Let me tell you. Because people ask me all the time. How do you know all this kind of stuff? He wanted to be like Frank Sinatra. Frank sinatra. So when people like you call up, and you bring up different things and not give you any dotes. And whatever may be. I'm quite sure he was saying. How does he know? All that. Bobby, darin? Yes. Wanted to be like Frank. Yes. That was his model that was his hero. And that's what we wanted to sing like, and he he did that early in his career like many singers who. Idolize wanted to be like and sing like, for example, people don't know this. When Ray Charles I started singing, his idol was and his style of singing was like NAT king Cole. Great great singer. It said that every song every song love by NAT king Cole song. He was great singer. So we ever gonna see more in the sixties uniform again, I'm not sure. I don't know. I don't know how that there's a as a tremendous article in today's Philadelphia Inquirer. If you're interested. Keith Pompeii has an inciteful story and reference to what he writes about what went wrong in terms of Marquel votes. So you may want to get the Philadelphia Enquirer. I will and read that story. Keith Pompeii has gotten himself in a position where he's begin to be very insightful has a lot of inroads and has made himself into a excellent not just writer, but an excellent writer in terms of the stories and the formation that he's able to disseminate to the readers and even when he speaking in reference to what's going on in the league. So that would be Dennis something for you to grab a hold of. And see if that's something that you wanna you wanna grab a hold up Sunni, a quick sports trivia question who was the first man in sport to a million dollar endorsement deal endorsement deal. I mean. I don't know about the endorsement deal. Now, you you beyond me, I know about the people who's who signed a million dollar contracts. I mean, not you say a million dollars, right? Yes. A million dollar multi year endorsement deal give it to me, Mike guess when I heard this question was Arnold Palmer. And that's not the answer. Go ahead on gum Carter. Bulwer ebonite. I now that use mixing the name, and you said bowling, I do remember when bowling was big time on TV late fifties and early sixties Don Carter with ebonite eight first multi year million dollars. I don't think I don't I don't think it was a million dollars and tell you why Dennis at that time the cost of living had not gotten to that point. I think may want to go back and do some research and find out that he was able to get one hundred thousand dollars I Google with this morning was a million. I can't believe that million dollars. And you saying what year what year was this nineteen sixty four. It was no nowhere. There's a multi year deal note, we say multi what do you mean year? Well, the Google thinks that multi year. So I'm guessing more than one year the million dollars was spread. Okay. Okay. So let's assume that what you're saying makes sense. But understand I know the cost of living goes up not down in nineteen sixty four million. Dollars. Today would be like maybe fifty million dollars. You gotta understand that wilt sign a contract when he was in the seventies. He was the highest paid athlete to ever sign a contract for two hundred and some odd thousand dollars or something. So I hear what you're saying. Sometime we have to put it in proper perspective long-term may be one hundred thousand dollars for ten years. But I can't imagine any athlete and particularly bowling what made I know bowling wasn't on TV back. Then when I did the games on CBS in the seventies bowling was big time. Not to the point that that's a lot of money. Dennis live, you produce your Google. And then double check and have them. Bring up Christmas old Lang Zion by Bobby, Darin. Have a good day. All right, buddy. Thank you for calling. Then ninety four WIP sports radio. Time is eight thirty five when it comes to taking care of your family and.

Because Irish I ask all my friends all the time. And the only answer that they could ever give the I don't know. I don't know. I hope I can find out the answer. I think I think you'll be able to answer this. So she. Brady Rogers, eight Mandy and hopefully Carson Wentz can eventually be on that list. I bleed green. So I just want to clarify that. Game is played everyone just always a series that they're going to win like like like, Dan Marino. Like, even even that team. He was one of the greatest quarterbacks like people in they were gonna win. But he was the best quarterback Jerry Montana. Guess okay. People assume that because he had he had. Rice. But everyone else like what is it about the patriots? That no matter who they play. It's always they're probably gonna win. They're probably gonna quarterback. I think it's a lot about the quarterback. But it's also the head coach Bill Belichick and what he's done when Tom Brady missed half of a season still made the playoffs, but internet annoying to you that that that's the team right now that everyone always says, oh, man, we gotta look out. Like, I want that for us. Last year was amazing last year was a meaning for us. For it to be you. You gotta you gotta do it more than once for it to be just don't stay whites. Dan. I mean, Bill Belichick constantly changes his roster. I know he has grunk and he's amazing but constantly change up. His Russia cooks for no apparent reason. Like change up his roster. "And let's talk Sixers now as we check in with Keith Pompeii. Sixers beat writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer and keep Sixers coming off and overtime loss. Last night fell to Detroit one thirty three one thirty two Blake Griffin fifty points in that one for the pistons including the game winning three point play in the final seconds of overtime. What was the big takeaway from last night for you? That's a tough one. I mean, the biggest one was at the seventy Sixers really have still have problems on the defensive end. You know, I know that Blake Griffin had a phenomenal game. But it was like he it was a little bit too, easy form. You know, he was able to get wherever he wanted to on the floor. I mean, you know, I even compare it to ankle breaking point guards from the and one mix tape tour, but he's a six ten power forward. And he was able to do whatever he wants to against the seventy Sixers that was my biggest takeaway. So let's talk about tonight Milwaukee's off to a great start three. And oh, what will be the keys of the Sixers are to bounce back and grab a victory. You just want to be tough. I mean, they they're going to have to play better defense. I mean because when you look at, you know, Jaanus enter enter the coupon always messed up his name, you know, the Greek freak he and Blake play the same position that both power forward. And and the Greek freak is better than than Blake at this particular time. He's more explosives, so you know, gave up fifty points to Blake Griffin. Oh, man, if I'm Brett Brown. I'm a little worried about this matchup tonight knowing that Yang is arguably wanted the top five players in the league right now. The Sixers are going to have to tighten up your defense. Our so they're going to have to you know, have some make some better adjustments better rotation and they're gonna have to play smarter on offense, Keith Pompeii, Philadelphia Inquirer. Joining us on reporter's roundup, as we talk Sixers who will be in Milwaukee tonight and keep if someone wants to check out all your work. What should they do? If you want to check out my work. Of course, I want you to subscribe through to Philadelphia Inquirer. But other than that you can follow me on Twitter at Pompeii on fixes Keith. Thanks for the time and insight. Thanks for having me on nine thirty tip off tonight in Milwaukee. And it sounds like Ben Simmons who didn't play last night probably questionable for tonight at this point, Steve mentally all with.

"Couple of things, with the Sixers if you've missed. This. To sizable developments one is they've made. A trade and what the Sixers did if you missed it there's a guy named pneumonia Balita who was. Signed was going to sign with the Sixers. The idea being that he's a stretch for For he plays a little bit of defense you can pass. The ball a little bit like. Just a totally solid role player would give you twenty minutes, a night well a pulled out of the deal. And, now he's probably going to get I, think you already assigned it. Actually with the Sacramento Kings so he's gone that's that's off the table so what. The Sixers did. In response, is they made a. Trade and, they brought in a guy named Mike Scala and was Scala fits a very similar Bill to pneumonia beliefs and so the way this is. Gonna work out is pretty much the same things. Six eleven he's to forty. He's been playing with the Atlanta, Hawks now what kind of player is he. He's, a power forward slash center he. Plays, either, role, you really he splits his time pretty evenly in. Both and so you figure he's going. To be a backup center for the, Sixers and the flexibility is good Brett Brown likes to change changes lineups up a. Lot and be able to switch he's going to be able to do that and he, can shoot the three pointer a little bit His three point shooting has gotten better over the years he's a league average is. Thirty seven percent from three as a role player so those are all good things now, what. Did they trade. To get my scholar well the train. The, first rounder they traded Timoteo Lewa? Who cabraha who the drafted a. Couple years ago and. It seems, like he's fallen out of favor and I. Can understand why he just hasn't quite improve to his shootings bad frankly so, he's got some issues and. They decide to move on from him also a guy that just got pretty popular. Justin Anderson infamously attached to the Nerlens Noel deal and imaginary first round pick the came with it Justin Anderson earned a lot of. Fans in the Miami series being able to shutdown twain. Wade people were calling for him to get more time in the Boston series. And that didn't happen but he's. Gone, now and what the Sixers have is Mike? Scala, who again is going to. Be a stretch for for them so they made that trade today the other trade that is in the works has a, big name that you probably recognize Kyle Korver the Sixers are in talks, this is. From Keith Pompey's where I saw it I keep Keith Pompeii saying that. The Sixers and Cavs are in a deal, which would be Kyle Korver one of the best three point shooters in the history of the NBA Coming to the Sixers in exchange for Jared Bayless a neither kidding Jared Bayless I would assume that you're going to have some picks. That are, involved in that maybe, a couple of second round picks or something I mean part of the appeal I if? You're, asking why on earth would the Cavaliers trade. "The luxury tax at the time but there is something to hey it might be too much too soon even if the whole world knew that the thunder had the town to get to the nba finals we could be on the brink of that with the philadelphia seventy sixers it's not crazy to think they could get look at the path that's opening up boston's without their two best players and it's incredible what they've been able to do but you're gonna pick austin against a healthy seventy sixers team that would open way to the conference finals and we might or might not see the cavs we might or might not see the raptors nobody's buying in there and you look at the mets if you like i could see the seventy sixers win this and keith pompeii joins us from the philadelphia inquirer covers the philadelphia seventy sixers let's not get ahead of ourselves and talk about the possibilities of other series how how different is this series though once joel embiid steps on the floor i mean when you have joel and be like you have a go to guy on the block i mean it's good as the other guys are it just seems like if shots on falling you don't have one person who you can just say all right we're going to try to split spread the four and you just go to work force and in addition to that you know it's it's how defensively you know he alters a lot of shots she blocked shots and it just seems like teams they basically stay away from the lane when he's in there you know and and i think that's the most underrated aspect of his game i said earlier today like look i was on the ben simmons bandwagon when others were jumping off when he was in college and i love ben simmons i like the way anybody when they when you guys a guy that dimes other people sets them up loves the passed away that simmons does makes everybody want to run the lanes and spine their spots better ben simmons is great but joel embiid in terms.

"Of that but yeah so he got that approved you know by the nba because you know let's face it he is one one of the faces of the of the of the league and i guess they just want to be you know a extra cautious with it but it is completely different it he didn't look like a superhero out there tonight i mean he's got his own movie after that was amazing our buddy keith pompeii covers the sixers for the philadelphia inquirer joining us going deep dan schwartzman nbc sports radio close contest and then that fourth quarter sixers went ballistic completely battered around the heat what happened in that fourth quarter that you saw you know what look like joel embiid demand and the our like basically became the man of the hour i mean it was one of those things where the heat fold within seven points and then all of a sudden he's just scored like he went on his own personal seven oh run and then after that i it like a night at a rally for the sixers so to speak and then next thing you know you look up and they're up twenty but i i really think it was him and it's funny because while he was on the bench by justin anderson came over to them and say look you're supposed to be one of the best guy you know one of the top guys in the league you know what i mean you're supposed to take over this game and he was just basically kept telling them like if you're going to be the man you need to do it now you need to do it now and then m b was like yeah i'm gonna do i'm gonna do i am the man and he came in there and he went to work and like you know that's actually how it happened i mean i'm not saying that he's not a motivated guy but he had his teammate like basically challenging them like right now this is when great players produce and now you need to produce you need to show people that you're a great player and he went out there and he played well keith year round this.
