Incoming Biden administration to migrant caravan: Don't come, you won't get in immediately

"Over the weekend and unnamed source in the incoming Biden administration put out a message to the Central American Caravan that's now Making its way from Honduras through Guatemala. There in Guatemala. It's estimated 12,000 people are now in this caravan. It's the first really large one in about a year and a half. Almost two years in the Biden administration put out the message that now is not the time to do this. Help is coming later. But this is not the time to do these. Keira Vance. Mark Morgan is the outgoing Customs and Border Patrol secretary. He was speaking today on Fox. And he said, This is a really, really bad situation with this caravan. First of all, he said. It's been ignited by a lot of the illegal smugglers and they're preying on people in Central America, getting them to join in this caravan. You've got a combination of open border advocates that are organizing these caravans and actually encouraging and driving the immigrants toe to participate the risking their lives. In addition of that you have the cartels in human smugglers that are doing the same thing. They're fueling the perception. That our borders will be be open. They're exploiting encouraging this horrible population. Why to line their own pocketbooks and bank account. So the Biden administration is putting out the word now is not the time to do this. I think their message may be too late. They're already pushing forward. What do you think they're going to turn around and go back and say Okay to send us the invite When you're ready over the last year, those central American countries and Mexico Have really changed. They stepped up. Yes, they have had blocked caravans. It's been a major change. I would guess now knowing the new administration is coming in that Mexico will put up a little bit of an effort. But yes, will let it come through and they will end up on the border of the United States. And then take President Biden will be under enormous pressure from his base toe. Let them in ASAP. But what does that look like? We're you know, we're still in The the pandemic of Covert and his new CDC person coming in, says she's expecting another 200,000 or 150,000 to be dead by mid February. You just let That many immigrants are mean. Are you going to be testing them at the border? If you decide to go ahead and let them in? What does that look like for Cove?

Johnny Depp Allegedly "Romantic" With Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow talks about Public Scrutiny

"I daily please. Welcome scott tweeted back to the show so much for joining us come for the christmas trees decorations. Everything christmas tree competition between justin. And i later in the show's to stick around for that. Okay it's a new way to light up your tree all right up. First today. the hollywood reporter reports that johnny depp dated angelina jolie cure nightly an marion cotillard. And all the details are about to go public sued. Johnny's going back to court With the defamation case against his ex wife amber heard it's based on an essay she wrote about abuse for the washington post back in two thousand eighteen. Now according to the hollywood reporter johnny will have to turn over all responsive communications with his alleged romantic partners in angelina. Marian and kiera have all been named in court. Documents now marian. Akira have already there on this. They told us they were never romantically involved with johnny. And we have not heard back yet from angelina so interesting. It's a little more of this. He said she said drama Do you think the trial will be even more damaging or possibly embarrassing for johnny than the british trial was. It's all so ridiculous. This man is doing this based on something that came out and twenty eighteen with everything going on in two thousand twenty and in the world. No one even remembers that johnny depp amber heard all of these issues anyway. what. I think we're more they issues. I mean in the bay. I mean he kept on saying allegedly in the bank. Yes that's what you would remember more. And i and johnny feels. He needs to clear his name and he has filed the. He's already put this much money into it. I see him wanting to see this through the time that he did this. He was hot on it. But by the time you actually go to trial and all this davits it does feel like wow. Why are they still doing this. But also twenty twenty probably delayed a lot of things you know. It delayed a lot of stuff. And everybody's lives feel for these women who are now being dragged into this and they have nothing to do with johnny depp now carrying kierra in delina. Their names are part of this drama. And according to kira and marian they tell us like why we were never even romantically dated part of it. That's the worst part of the if somebody denies there your data when you say you did and it's on court documents said negative about this. Johnny's just wants to come out swinging. He wants to clear everything and go so he's got nothing to lose right now the position he's in even though farrah's outside his list you can lose a lot with this fahim. It's like there's nothing to lose. This is heaven hell scenario. It's heaven for the lawyers. I only gel for everyone else. One hundred percent. I totally agree and by the way there are times where companies know that. They're not wrong. They know that they are not liable for what happens to somebody but lawyers will say you need to settle this out of court because it's gonna cost you more in the long run. Why is no one sitting down with johnny depp. In saying yo at this point we know what you want to do. You want to clear your name. We know you're eagles getting involved. But you have to protect some of your reputation and dragging this out in american court after we just did it for a year in the uk cords. This is not going to be good for you. Take the l you still got ten million fantastic beasts. Somebody's gonna come back around for you. Mel gibson can get back from sugar. Tits. you can get back from this. Mean buddy but it's bunny but it's not all right. Well let's move on now normally when you're not dealing with an ugly trial there are so many perks. Do being a famous actress. Money fame and boyfriends. Like brad pitt. But gwyneth paltrow says the cost of fame was so high that she didn't want to keep doing it. Here's how she explained it on sirius. Xm's quarantined with bruce part of the shine of acting. What wore off. You know being in such intense public scrutiny beings a kid who's like living every break-up on every headline like being criticized for everything you do say in where show and also the the you know you're you're it's so transitory you're always all over. You think was more famous for her acting or for headlines. Sometimes i think back. In the olden days of hollywood in the early two thousands they kinda sorta went hand in hand. I think you became more famous when you were in a couple. And i think that's why a lot of times eight listeners hookup because they realize that their currency is doubled. Now still true today. The people don't use it as much as the used to i think. Stars kerry washington a-list stars mindy kaelin. They don't really use their relationships. Kids that are personalized very much. They have restricted that access and they got smart because they realized that once you do it once you can never stop ever even if you wanna stop it yet. Can't do it also in tech entrepreneurs and the new this out is yeah. I agree with you. i think for me. She's always been movie star. I assure the tabloids all the time about relationships but nine hundred ninety eight was her year sliding doors shakespeare in love expectations that was about the film's first and foremost and then after. That came all this when i started google and that created like a whole new kind of door to joe. And yeah she. She's now opened the doors to say like whatever. But i also think he's at a point now where she is just like take handles it all so much better. That's why she's clearly pursued kept pursuing this staying in the main stream and being super famous at the way she could've hidden away and not been out and about but she's everywhere like does not shy away at all so she's clearly got come to terms with this. I do think like it always helps if you can get into a relationship with another celebrity. I mean if you're trying to increase your fame. I'm that's why you have so many I'm using i know wags is not a bad term but i mean the women who there are a lot of women that go after just famous people are a lot of men that just go after famous women and it's like they do that for a period of time because they're really trying to increase their stardom and it helps

Student loans in the United States

"Roughly 44 million student loan borrowers haven't had to pay anything on their student loans since March. This grace period offered as part of the coronavirus relief package will end on January 31st. That deadline was originally December 31st. But last Friday, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced that borrowers would get an extra month of reprieve. But for many That's still not enough. I'm unemployed, and so I am concerned about not being able to pay my loans. I'm 61 years old been paying student loans since my twenties. If I were having to pay my student loan right now, during the pandemic, it would be to 36 a month. I have a lot of loans that air coming up for repayment, and I'm really worried that don't have a job yet. Asselin, who has recently completed grass school and who lost my job in July. Here. I've been grateful for the paws on student loan repayments. I just don't understand how we're supposed to pay off our loans. When the situation hasn't really changed. I don't have full time work and the payments are pretty steep. My parents willing, is $1400. And what are we supposed to do? This month's installment of dollars and cents. Our monthly personal finance series. We're talking about student loan debt, joining us his Alvin Hall. He's a financial educator and author of several personal finance books. Alvin, It's great to have you back. Also with us is Cara Perez. She's a financial educator and the founder of Bravely, Ah Financial education Company, Carol. Welcome back. Thanks for having me and we're also here with Susan Dinar ski. She's a professor of public policy, education and economics at the University of Michigan. Susan Welcome. Thanks for having me. So Susan first put the problem of student loan debt into context for us. How big of a problem is this in our country? We have a lot of people in debt, and we have some people who are having trouble with that debt. Since we've got so many millions of people who owe student loans, even a small proportion of them having difficulty adds up to a lot of people in trouble. How long has this been a problem? And is it getting better or worse? It was sort of important shift that took place during the great recession in about 10 years ago, where Ah lot of people who have the past who had not borrowed began borrowing folks who are going to community college is, for example. On BOC's who would tend to drop out after just a year or so. And default rates just went through the roof on. We haven't even completely recovered from from that period. So I would say, you know, we had student debt around for a long time. It's been affecting more people and causing more defaults, especially since three session, Keira. We heard from several people at the top who are out of work and who student loan payments are starting back up. February 1st. How can someone without income pay down student loan debt? What are their options? That's a great question and one certainly without easy answers. I think the first thing that anyone who does not have any income and is looking to make actual payments needs to do is sit down and assess their savings and understanding my trying to pay this out of what I currently have tucked away in savings or investments, or am I looking To do something like, ask outside of my finances to make these payments, But I think that more importantly, the question shouldn't be If I'm unemployed. Should I be trying to make these payments? The question is, if I'm employed, where can I find employment? Because once you have money coming in, it's going to make everything in your life, including paying your student loans much easier. We got this message from Kara on Facebook on Lee federal student loan borrowers haven't had to pay during the pandemic. I lost my job and still had to pay my student loans. I told my loan provider that I lost my job. Got the payments postponed until May, But I still have to pay $150 a month for the interest. What about private loan borrowers? Any thoughts? Yeah, I think the first thing that people should do is get in touch with their lone bar are their lenders. Justus carded here to figure out if there is a lower amount that they can pay or if there is some sort of grace period that they qualify for. Really, They're stuck between a rock and a hard place, right. If there's no money coming in money cannot go out. And so it really falls on these companies to understand we're in a global pandemic that the U. S. Has not handled particularly well. Can they work with their Lindy's so album for someone who is struggling? Who is working but is also struggling to pay for food and housing. Is there any advice you can give on how to start chipping away at their debt? Yes, I must tell you Agenda this, uh, the subject sits deep in my stomach because when I graduated from school in the seventies it was doing Great recession and I was in very much the situation. I had no savings. I had a job. The job was unstable Income was low. What I did during that period of time I took Another job. I took a job working in a department store selling men's furnishings, the nice words for men's underwear, belt and socks. And I would allocate as much money as I could. From that job. A job I really didn't like. But my purpose had to be to pay something on these loans because back then you did not have that many options. The other decision that I made during that period of time, which I was told everybody about was that I looked at the program of loan forgiveness and discovered that if I Heart in a particular school and a low income neighborhood or something like that, Then some of my loan would be forgiven. So actually did that. I took a job in what was then on area where the school was in the program, and that definitely helped repay part of my loan. So I think you have to be creative because Didn't have savings. My parents couldn't help me. I did not have a safety net. I'm thinking about the latest job numbers that came out and they were much lower than expected. And so for people who are maybe struggling to find that first job right now, or You know to secure income. The idea of finding a second job might feel particularly daunting album. It was daunting then, but If you are not proactive in some way. In handling this, then you get more depressed. It becomes more overwhelming. So you can call the student the government office on student aid and try to re negotiate. But Robbins and just sit there, it's good to be proactive in some way. So at least every day you're making one step forward toward a goal.

I'm thinking about future halloween costumes. We can do together like do you wanna be hans hansel or do you want to zoo lander a horror. I mean home rb easier. I really would be either but that got you. That's who. I want to throw the smoothie at you because it makes me gase imploded. Okay awesome k twenty and twenty one. It's going to be a good year. Can't wait favorite. Tv show survivor. I'm obsessed with survivor man. That'd be good on survivor. I don't know if i would like. I think you guys have a good time with it but like when i'm really hungry like does not come out fancy chicken and rice rice briny the chicken to go along with the rice or else i can not handle i would love. I would love to be on survivor. But i don't know quite what they're looking for. But yeah you need some secrets snacks. I respect that yeah. Who was your childhood celebrity crush. Oh oh gosh so by using so okay Well always really like patrick swayze when i liked from Dirty dancing but like the the person i was just obsessed with is conan o'brien Coenen of ryan. He's so funny. Like i don't know why i don't know if it's like a crush but i've always thought he's the funniest person on this planet. So that's embarrassed seeing can we edit the no no unfortunately my broken everything stays in. I think that's a great answer. And you know what i think. Humor is the greatest quality in a human. So i respect that answer great. Well thanks. Thanks for filling but the next question Where'd you have your first kiss. Oh man what's a really tough question. Isn't it like like a pack or like a make out. What are you. Whatever was most memorable. Okay let's do. I think i i like pack was on the playground like behind like during recess like the guy i liked. Alimentarius goes is like. Hey come on this and i was like okay back me and actually one of the only kids in the whole school there could be a mile so yeah so it was kind of like you know i really wanted to beat him but yeah he was like my first little boyfriend. Elementary school so oh my gosh if you could go for a run with anyone who would it be malcolm. Glad well answer. You are about to break the american record in the ten mile. What song do you want playing as you cross the finish line. Oh this is a really good question. I hand you can request it s. I have like one hundred songs going through my head right now. I think i'm going to pick heya by outcast because that was my husband and my first dance song so and it's also like a really happy. Go get him song. So yeah. that's heya. Oh i wish i could have been at. Your wedding. was amazing. It was a lot of fun and allied. Here's a secret. I had to weddings. Like we got married in vegas with elvis and then six months later we did like a big white wedding with like oliver family and friends and that was like it was fun. 'cause like guinea newly knowing that we were married. The second wedding was just like a huge party. So that's all we cared about just making sure we just all danced are face up tastes off so we all lost faces that that night but they've grown back we're okay that sounds amazing you decide to host a running podcast kira on the run. Who is your dream. Interview man That is a really great question. Okay like dream interview like alive or dead or what are restrictions around this question. I mean if you can get a dead person to be on the show girl doing for it. I will issue an in. Oh man okay. This is a little tough on thought. I think the person that's gonna come to mind. I is my mom. Because somehow she's created all this cure. Nash and really like to get a guessing. See how she did it. I answer my mom. I would also like to get her on her show. My mom is a firecracker man us so funny and just like so like supportive and loving within. She's also like just the best kind of nut in the world. She's a really good time. It's so much fun to be around my mom when you were little. What did you wanna be when you grew up a professional athlete. I'm not even loves fourth grade. I drew. I feel like i'm telling a lot of fourth grade stores today. Fourth grade was really good. You might limit of year. We had to draw a picture of what we wanted to be. When you grew up. And i drew a picture that i wanted to be like a professional athlete and then my teacher took me aside and said i should probably have bigger dreams. Maybe go for the first woman president or like a dog where she saw like really good thing for my future. I don't think it just want to be an athlete. And i think i'm cool with mc pro athlete. Still working on that dream alley. I love it. And i think that you should write her a letter and be like. Hey mrs milk. Whatever her name was. Ms burgess. Yeah burgess famous burgess. Yeah i might do that. And it's funny too 'cause now my daughter. She started talk about life what she wants to be when she grows up and she's like mom what should i be. I'm like no. This is like the really great things you get to pick like whatever you wanna be you work your butt off and you set a goal and just just were in. You could be that. Why don't you just tell me and my doctor. And she's like does that mean. I have to give shots and i'm like yes. You probably maybe not all doctors and she said well if that means i can give the shots not get the shot. Signed me up. I will do that. Actually never mind. I just want to be a mom. You can be both. You can be a doctor mom. She's like okay. That's what i wanna be a mom. And his i don't know. I just very much relate to just tell me what to do. That's me every night. Yeah why don't you just. We have for dinner. What was your first. Am screen name here or for four and it's so funny you ask that because that's how my husband and i like our relationship started back in high school is like like he s. He actually got his brand to ask me what my screen was. So i was cure for for four and he was pre three sixteen. So cure for four.

All right. So. You had your children over here in England and went from your family. Let me and you become a single mom early on about five years ago said, the kids were three and five, and that is still around and he's he's with them every other weekend main Keira but that's not really only experience as a Keira So part of the reason I wrote the book about caring in general rather than just being a parent to a disabled child. was because it's not the first time I've been Akara I was a carrot to my mom when I was a teenager and I think it's when I started putting all of those pieces together when I had my son. It was funny. A few people have said Oh when he was diagnosed, you must be my aunt kind of Thomas Thomas can handle this. I was actually at first. It was kind of the opposite because I had looked someone else before and I knew how hard it was, and so I think at first I was a bit overwhelmed because this was like this was my child now. So this is forever I'm going to be. Supporting him in some way or another forever. I think in some ways, it was more overwhelming in the beginning but then quite quickly I realized I meant so much from my experience my mom and they were even though the two things are really different my mom. Had Depression and she died by suicide when I was twenty two and obviously they're really different situations but at the same time. There was a lot there had in common, and in fact, actually was when I went back to Australia a couple of years ago and I was catching up with A. Friend and she's one of my oldest friends in the world and we grew up in same street together apparent each other really well, and her mom has Alzheimer's and it's early onset. So it was probably about twelve thirteen years ago. So she's coming to the end stage is now and we would just having a catch up. and talking about days and. I couldn't stop off at how much there is in common between looking after a parent or child if you're looking for someone that has a cognitive impairment and so. Actually when I I'm just really interested in caring in general because we talk about parents over here looking after autistic child or or toppled down senior Muslim you know that and then there's people looking elderly. Parent or this to on we all have stuff in common. We all need a huge amount of support that we're getting from the government and from society, and there's often this common problem of not really up to speak about what's happening inside your house for lots of different reasons and I just thought that's that's my talk about I want to talk about caring. Both on a personal level, but also on a political level as val. So how old were you when you started looking off your mom? Then she was eleven when she started getting panic attacks and things like that. So it happened a bit gradually she was really well when I was young before then and then so between eleven and thirteen gradually got west, and by the time I was about thirteen she was. In and out of hospital and in bed for weeks at a time and just from then on, I just gradually took on more responsibility. But that's what's kind of interesting about it. Because people I didn't know what word I didn't know the word care when I, when I was teenager I didn't know that's what I was doing, and in fact, I think I was probably like fifty even heard the word young. And I think and it's interesting 'cause I. Didn't I didn't really talk about my experiences at the time with anyone outside of the house. Particularly if people knew what was going on, we had we did have a bit of support as a family, but I didn't really talk about with friends that didn't talk about it with openly with anyone I. Don't think my teachers school particularly new but I didn't I didn't have language talk about it and I think that's still a massive problem even much better at talking about depression and different mental illnesses now I think particularly. For the kids of people who have mental illnesses, it's really difficult for them to talk about I. think part of that's because it's not happening to you directly. It's somebody else but you massively affected by what's what's happening. So like for me, I think like a lot of people. Being, careless. Cap Someone WHO's dying o? Washing them fading them. Physical Health and of course, lots of people do that kind of caring. But carrying his sorry much broader than that and it can be providing emotion really huge amount of emotional sport somebody could be running much more financial support. It could be taking on extra responsibilities for them. So they can consider the energy something else or it can be lots of different things as a parent. Now, lot of my caring responsibilities. Having arguments with Farsi and going through. Extensive. Legal wrangles to get education and things like that. That says much of my experiences Akara as actually looking to my son is and so it's kind of carrying very broad and I think we sometimes talk about it in very narrow terms and so. I think why that's problematic is that it can take a really long time for Congress to identify to self identifies A. and. So they can be taking on more and more responsibility over years and years and years, and actually a guard. Or guards anyone else help until they are falling apart and having our own Ben out and having their own mental health problems because they can't cope with the responsibilities anymore.

Arizona reports a high 1,753 new COVID-19 cases as health department includes antigen diagnostic tests

"Virus in Arizona, a big jump in Arizona's Corona virus cases today 1753 new cases. 38 new deaths. The state reports more than 23,000 diagnostic tests, which include Auntie Gin tests from months ago. How many of today's Corona virus cases are from the new androgen test? A little bit under 600? And that's nearly a third of today's case is state health director Keira Crist explains why the state is now adding anti Jin test to the total diagnostic test results. These are new tests that were recently approved by the FDA. They're very similar to the rapid flu or the rapid strep test that you might get in a doctor's office. We have added that to our case definition as a probable cases expect higher case counts for the next several days.

"Good morning to you, my friend Care Bradley coming to Hugh for my morning Walk One more time here valley forge park spectacular morning. I feel so blessed to be able to get out early and. And pull in this era and allow these. Trees to center me and ground me and stabilized me for the work day ahead. So. Wonderful to Kinda beat the day in get out and up. I hope that these walks don't interfere with my, messages? If you feel like it's just too much for me to be walking and talking then let me know Hey Keira sit still will you? I'm happy to do. Today. I WanNa talk to you about the word verge. You may know this already have maybe if you've been following me or read my book on the verge or maybe come to my yoga, Studio Verge Yoga, you may know the story but. I think it's an important one to. To remind you of. And remind me of and that is that the verge averge is a boundary. It's an edge. And it's on the edge. That we change and grow. Being out there on the verge now unfortunately. The expression on the vert. has is used so often in the negative on the verge of a nervous breakdown if you remember that movie. Women on the verge our. Country is on the verge of collapse right but I see it as different. I see it as being. On the edge of change where growth. And flourishing happens. So years ago many many years. My husband went down to the Ecuador to the Amazon and he spent a few weeks with an indigenous tribe. And he? When it came back he told me the story how they would be. Going down these tributaries in. in a canoe CA dugout tree bark right tree trunk. And they would stop. At certain places along the way and they've been pause there. And maybe have a snack or water, but it was at these places where the indigenous. People that he was with would pause to almost pray. And these places these edges of land where to trip tributaries came together is called a verge. and. It's they are on the verge. Research shows animal life and wildlife? Thrive. There on the edge on the boundary where ecosystems come together. There is flourishing. There is thriving. And when I heard that term many many years ago. I thought Oh, my Gosh, I wanNA live on verge. I WANNA live there. I want to know what it feels like to be on the edge of change. To. Be Right there at the precipice of growth in challenge. And so I. named. My Yoga Center in two thousand and four Verge Yoga. For that reason to create a space where people can flourish and thrive. Just. Like that place there on the Amazon. So so much of what I do. And why do it is to? Live right there on the edge. These morning messages for me or Averge 'cause I just go for it. Right. I don't know what's coming out of my mouth I have an idea direction and then then I just write it. Because I trust that right there on the edge. is where I'm going. I may fumble, but it's where growth is happening. So where are the verges in your life? Where do you live on the verge? How do you live on the verge? We can do it mentally. A mental practice, we can do it emotionally immolation ship. Right. Our relationships can be verges where we are called to step up to open up to accept to allow. Or to challenge and physically, of course, we can challenge ourselves physically right there on the verge. Not, blasting ourselves out of the water but just enough so that we start to feel the tremble we start to feel that aliveness and it's they're on the verge my friend where we feel most alive. And this is what I based my whole book on its honestly what I've based my whole professional life on and it's where I live personally I wanna live on the verge and I wanna live on the verge with others. It's it's really part of the makeup of my my new mental wellness business. Where we partners? Are Living Together. In In the space where we are growing tremendously. Where we are thriving and listen if you WANNA work with me. Just reach out that's all you have to do. DM or email and Let's talk about how we live on the verge together. If you have your own verges, let me know I wanNA hear. Where you live on the Verge And let's do that because this is where we come alive when I come alive, you come alive. When you come alive, you help others come alive. and. My Gosh we all need that right

"Abbott visits Fort Worth and makes a proposal he says is aimed at discouraging local cities from de funding. Their police department's given a rabbit was at Fort Worth Police headquarters to announce his proposal that any city that defunds its police department would have its property tax revenue frozen at its current level, Abbott said. His proposal comes as Austin voted to defund its police department. When Crime is on the rise, the last thing that we should do Is to defund law enforcement. Abbott was flanked by Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dennis Bonnin, who condemned Austin's move. Law enforcement is not a toll of political agendas. Saykara in the Office with Dr. Gabe Charbonneau

"So before jumping into say care I'll just. Just tell you what my my workspace looked like before So I, I considered myself to be quite optimized and I was actually skeptical that this was going to make me faster for example, because I thought. Okay. I'm pretty quick at dragon. I have. My note templates optimized. I've got all these macro tools that I use. So I actually thought to myself is sort of this like person that was gonna Shepherd in something to try for some of my peers that might benefit from it more because maybe there was more more room to go and so So that's that was my background going into it when we started the pilot. So the I'll I'll just walk through like what a what a typical encounters with chairs like and then sort of some of the observations I had so So it's a mobile APP on your phone. It's an APP and it has your patient lists for the day on there, and basically before I go into the room I, select the patient I'm GonNa go see in I, walk in and I make sure it's okay with them that I use this a assistant because it's going to record the whole conversation. and. No one has objected to that. Yet. I mean they. They know that it's secure and compliant and all that kind of stuff. and. Then you turn it into listening mode which basically activates that it's okay for it to listen to the conversation and that's that's basically then I sat down. And from there So there's two things that are happening. One is that it's capturing all the audio from our from our conversation At this stage, I'm on version of the product that requires a little bit more queuing. It's a little bit like Alexa, where you you say, Hey, Cara, which is activation word right at or okay Keira in that gets into ready to accept the command. So it sort of mix little beep in the screen changes color and it's like ready to go and then things that you can do at that point are. You could say some speech that's like a recap of your narrative So so I've taken a history with the patient. And I. Say now I want to now, I want to get that into the note for today, I'm going to repeat back what I, what I heard. You say and I I also say if if I made any mistakes or left anything out when I'm please let me six, can I So from the beginning when you're taking the history before you get to that sort of that summary. Is. It still listening. Is it recorded at that point? Yes. It's listening so part. So I was going to circle back to that so far. So the technology's evolving like the dream is a fully autonomous sort of completely only tech solution where you know just like it listens to the whole conversation is sort of accurately catching the speech and then parsing that both for intention and. Direct. Transcription and lick capturing structured data and so forth, and like there's no need for any human kind of editing, and that is the model that's being built in as people who know about Ai and deep learning. It requires huge volumes of data, right? So this transcript, this conversation is we are building that. So okay, we're in the process of using. It s if it were like an Alexa in your exam room, you talked with voice commands, you don't have to speak any punctuation. Is Very natural, intuitive, but But what I'm actually most excited about this is like you're geek doctor is that we're actually building the model of the future So so that's where like I don't think that's the typical users not gonNA come at it being excited about like I'm helping build the future. They just want right like to ease my burden, but that's that's part of what excites me see. Okay. Yeah. So so anyway, so I. So then I will, but then I'll just speak naturally. Naturally. So you know the patient came in for whatever, and these are the things and and then you can voice command. Say thanks care when you're done and and then You know if there any changes, you just naturally say you know actually high blood pressure has been going on for two years versus whatever, and they'll. They'll change that and fix it. So you don't have to like drag and you have to find exactly how it came out highlighted. Say it again sort of supervise. So. This is another key observation that happened to me is that I didn't realize how much sort of mental effort it was taking for me to to proofread. Sl went with Dragon Like you say it in under sort of watching it, go on the screen and and that those are mental gymnastics really and so Cara secure has. Editing done in the background and quality control with people. Make sure that whatever whatever you said comes outright, and it's definitely better than I was reading my own notes dragging because I would think I said something, and then that would think i. saw myself saying that thing on the screen in that wasn't the case. So I'll get weird stuff sometimes in my notes. Yeah.

Post Show: What it Was Like to Interview Kara Swisher

"Hello and welcome to inside podcasting. This is a mini episode in which a special guest will speak with me of how to interview Cara Swisher. If you missed my original interview with Kara go back and listen to that first and then come back and listen to this behind the scenes episode. It'll make a lot more sense that way and with that I will introduce my special guest. Today he is the man who is on the phone with me dealing with my stress at the very beginning of last week's episode. My husband Dawn Pillsbury. Welcome to inside podcasting Dawn. Thank you sky. Feel like I've been waiting for this moment for the last two years have been living living living. The podcast living the dream and just been waiting for an invite to participate. So thanks for having me on board. I'm excited I think. I'm uniquely positioned to drive some insights out of this episode because I really was breathing and living it with you over the past. It seems like six to eight weeks. Now yes you have been and you've been sort of in the background this whole time and this is your here your fifteen minutes don well. I might be twenty but I'm looking excited to be in the foreground. Let's start with care. Swisher is a pretty good get. I would say for any podcast but especially a little podcast. Like inside podcasting. Can you just remind me and your listeners? Can how this came out sure. So I actually met Eric who I mentioned at the beginning of the interview with Eric is her producer and I think we exchanged email prior but I met him at podcast movement at some party that they were having and he gave me his business card and I remember. This is kind of funny. I am. I never keep business cards like people. Give me their business cards and to be honest I just. I'm not one of those people that's like. I don't have a Rolodex like I just figure we'll be able to get in touch with you over email or whatever but I kept his because I thought it would be amazing to have care on the show and having worked in technology and I even was at a party with her once in the nineties and even then I remember being like. Wow that is Cara Swisher. So she's just always loomed really large so when I met him there was no way I was going to give up that chance to pitch him and so when I got home I literally just I sent him an email and I was like. Do you think there's ever would ever be away that she would come on. And you know I gotTa say it was pretty easy I mean he got back pretty quick and she was in the middle of. She's about to have a baby and so we delayed in the interview for a little bit but aside from that I mean that was really the only roadblocks and and of course that was for a good reason while shows you that you just have to ask people sometimes and it might be easier to get a yes. Anybody thinks exactly well. Speaking of phone calls the phone call itself at the beginning of the episode is pretty hilarious. I had actually forgotten the you'd recorded it And when you played it for me the first thing in my mind was how annoyed I been. You had basically not listened to me and it wasn't just like last week. It was telling you for weeks that your battery was dying. So what was the very first thing that went through your mind when you realize that you couldn't start the car? Oh my God that I'm an idiot. I mean I of and of all days like to have that happen and I knew I had to call you because it even though you've been saying it over and over again like I guess it didn't really register until my car wouldn't start then I was like okay. He was he was being serious But luckily it all worked out. Thank God I was stressed in and sweaty when I got to her office but I made. Is there any chance that you'll start drinking more seriously? Now probably not will? Obviously you know. I've got a front row seat and I kind of feel like I'm in the room for putting this interview and really all your interviews together but this one particular We a lot about the some of the stories that she shared some of the things that she's done. You can obviously all those into the episode. Can you share a couple stories that you wanted to put in but yes there were some things that I did cut out for time sake and also I think when you are? I'm making a podcast that is targeted to you know. I'm hoping that the people who listen are like diehard fans of podcasts or podcasting themselves so I have to think about like what's important to them so because I grew up in and around the Silicon Valley. I've known of Cara for a long time and I knew that she had had political aspirations. She'd actually announced that she wanted to run for mayor At one point and so I her about that and I did think that her answer was interesting although her interest of like well we have a new mayor now and she's doing a good job and I wanna see how that goes. I want to get in the way of that but you know I still think it could have been interesting to leave an but the reason I took it out was because I just didn't see that that would be to someone who doesn't know Cara and he's only listening this because they want to understand the mind of someone who builds who's building a podcast You know that wouldn't be as relevant to them so I took it out for that reason. All that was a hard hard one to cut. So let's get to the interview itself. It's a great interview and there's so many stories that care has and she she just can't stop sort of talking about sort of the exciting things you've done to the people she knows but. I wonder if that make it tough for you because I know you had prepared a ton of questions and there's more than a couple times where care kind of cuts you off and starts going in a direction that she whether she wants to go there or not. She's going there. She owns all the land. Remember so what are you? How are you able to kind of adjust on the fly? When you're interviewing someone like Cara who can take over the conversation so that is a good question? I think I something going for me in that. I only brought in note cards and I think psychologically had no cards with like words on them rather than like questions written out which I sometimes do have when I'm doing an interview completely remotely and not seeing anybody even on a screen so I just had no cards. Which made me feel? I did it because I didn't want to be like this. Lame nerdy person. Who came in like all her like questions. Pretty sure not something that carrot does and might not respect so. I was like okay just look like a reporter and like just have my note cards and whatever but I think that the advantage of that was that made me feel much more loose loot sort of loosey-goosey like I kind of go with the flow. So and you know what I was also prepared for that because Kerris wisher is. That's her style like she she for people who was Rico decode. They definitely know like Edo. She just cut people off all the time. It's kind of like her in a way signature. I think it drives some people crazy. I know this actually because people have told these though but other people like me really enjoy it because I feel like she's just like this bulldog it's like you've just like let her out of Lake. Who knows where he's coming at? You and I love that about her so I didn't really mind it. I actually Kinda thought like Oh. I'm getting the real Keira you know but I I yeah I did have to pivot a little bit and I was okay with that. I was somehow survived it.

threw her support behind the former vice president saying quote I believe in joke we need a leader who really does care about the people and who can therefore unify the people and I believe Joe can do that and with us right now was ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts Steve what a difference a week makes it did you anticipate Joe Biden picking up this mode the momentum this quickly no I have not I don't think anybody did I I think what we're what we're seeing though is a fascinating phenomena based on one word and that word is fear it's fear of Donald Trump and fear of Bernie Sanders Joe Biden has not been reborn as some useful charismatics move talking energetic candidates Joe Biden today is still the same Joe Biden that people have a lot of doubts about two weeks ago two months ago two years ago the difference is that Democrats have so desperate so frantic to find somebody who can beat Donald Trump that they decided that day either as a group and individually as voters and as candidates they'll camel Harris being an example of of having to rally around somebody and then choosing between Biden and Sanders the fear of Bernie Sanders is pulling the party too far to the left so there's a lot of energy around the Biden candidacy right now but in my view it's largely negative energy it's driven by fear it's driven by desperation there are not a lot of Democrats even this morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if they rally around by they're holding their breath and hoping that Biden will get its act together and I've seen some signs a few signs of Byton improving on the stop I think he's shown a little bit more energy I think the campaign line about I'm the candidate of those who have been left behind it counted out is a defective and powerful line really echoes of a bill to written of nineteen ninety two the comeback kid although Biden's hardly a kid he's more the comeback teaser than the comeback kid and also this line of of of appealing to the concepts of dignity and civility and normalcy I think they provide a fairly stark contrast to the president who's in the oval office now but Biden is still Biden it was all of his flaws but at this point he's the Democrats best hope and it's gonna be very difficult for Sanders to capture Steve thanks for your thoughts again this morning ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts it's also worth noting that this morning one of the former Pushing To Produce

"Welcome to on the verge. I am Care Bradley bringing you. Weekly bless of no hype advice essential practices and strategies to wake up. Show up and shine while this week. I'd like to talk to you about my story but your story think it's a universal story and that is our intense need to be productive to always be producing something doing doing doing all the time so now that I have announced that I am beyond the verge right. I've sold my business. It is such a relief to be able to talk about it with people but with that and of course. I've known this for some time that this was going to happen so I've been sitting with something for the last few months that he'd like to share with you and that is my very very intentional practice to not just add back in more doing into my life. Now that I've sold my business now. Of course I'm still need to work and I'm still going to be working but instead of living at the same pace that I've been living at. Let's say for the last fifteen years. I want to be really intentional about how I continue to work in years in the years ahead so. I've been contemplating this whole idea of pushing to product or pushing to produce. Now if you're like me Taipei Dewar dewar right. Always has the long list of stuff to do always looking to do more be more achieve more. It takes an incredible amount of awareness to notice habitual patterns. And I am a habitual doer. You may feel the same way habitually creating more stuff to do and something that I've noticed about myself in. The last six months is how quickly? I will push things to product now. Those are the words I use for me. They may not land for you but let me give you an example and then you may find something that that lands in your own life for instance. Oftentimes I'll have in an idea for a podcast. Let's say or for a product for a program. I'll have an idea for a workshop. Let's just put. It may keep it real easy. I may have an idea for workshop. Let's say in my morning meditation or as preparing for my day and by five o'clock that new workshop has been created. I've created the copy of created a flier. I've posted it on social media and it's out there in the world like whoa right. There's no time for simmering. I just have an idea and a push it to product very quickly and I've been doing this for a long time and I'm being honest with you. It's not great I think yes. I've got some good ideas. Yes I've put out some good programs but I've been so anxious to get things moving that I haven't allowed or always allowed things to simmer to mature to develop and so I've noticed this myself over the last six months and I really been intentional to not push the product. And that's those are my words for myself so clearing the space and allowing myself to let things fester let things start to sprout in a way that could bring forth a more robust program or product because we see so much out there on social media. We see so many people doing so much if you're like me. I have the sense of urgency. Like Oh my God I gotta get stuff out there now. A few months ago I mentioned in one of the shows that I was pulling together and online course and I did right. I pull together. A course that was called cultivating high impact self-care and I was ready to go. I signed up for an online program. I started paying for it. You know a platform that you can do a course on and then I realized what the Heck Are you doing Keira? Could you relax your in the middle of selling a business? You've got a Lotta things going on right. Now chill out. I may have used some expletives there in talking to myself but chill out can you allow this to simmer a little bit so that when you put the product out there it actually has a little more maturity about it instead of instead of it just being rush job. I've had a Lotta rush jobs. I have to tell you very honestly. Sometimes these shows actually are rush job and I'm really being very very aware of allowing ideas to start to foster to fester to blossom before. Just jumping on the Mike in throwing up on you and I hope I haven't thrown up on you. I might have and I apologize if I have. But I've learned and I'm learning now to take things a little bit more slowly so in this new stage of mind beyond the verge after selling the business and being out there now in no man's land in a lot of respects still needing to work still needing to produce things that produce income. I am being very very very mindful of not forcing and so I thought this was something worth sharing because I think that we in general because of the speed at which were all moving we in general are pushing things a little bit too quickly forcing things to happen so for me now. Just having announced the sale of me business last week. I'm getting a lot of emails and messages from people saying what's next. What are you doing? And I've been thinking about this for a long time because I've been thinking about selling the business for a long time but now that it's out in the open. I need to have some answers or do I do. I need to have answers and this is something that this type. A woman here. It's been hard to sit with. Can I truly just tell people that I am deeply listening to where where I'm feeling called to teach how I'm feeling call to teach what I'm feeling called to share? Maybe it's not teaching at all. Maybe I'm done teaching. I don't know one thing I know. Is that the business that I've been involved with the mental wellness. Business is is really exciting. And it's holding my attention and it's it's really Should I say it's it's satisfying my creative juices right now and so it's been Something I've been really leaning into so I'm loving that but it's very very different in some ways than I've been what I've been doing in the past. You know talking to people about the microbiome talking to people about mental wellness in the gut brain access. It's been really call and it's challenged me and that's one part of what I'm going to be doing going forward. But but the other part as far as what? I've been doing as a teacher is still unknown and so that online course that I manifest a few months ago is still just. It's like just simmering and I'm going back to it maybe once a week and trying to really listen into right timing when the right timing is to bring that on into the market. I'm not sure yet but I think it's it's coming. It's coming so I tell you this as a just an example for your life.

"You can also I know that we've been able to get fixtures and two ways and racks from stores, maybe that are going out of business or even if they're not going out of business. They are getting they're they're getting new things. And so they're willing to part with those things I know that a couple churches that I spoke with they had dry cleaners that were donating hangers for them because they couldn't buy hangers. But you really do need hangers. If you're gonna hang things up, you know. And so that was something that was super helpful that I've talked to people that they've been able to do I mean, even Keira here who's asking us these questions and talking with us. She's amazing and super creative. And she. She came up with chicken wire and hanging the hanging. Our scarves from it in this amazing beautiful display that I think is better than anything that I've ever seen in any store before. And I go in a lot of stores. So so you can get you just you have to be creative. You know? I mean, just have to really be creative. But it's fun because then you can express yourself, and you know, in your design elements and everything so it's probably one of the biggest things that we've learned just to not be deterred or discouraged when you don't know doing. We would never anything done around here. If we were so I would say just lean into that vision. And know that if Jesus is giving you that vision, he's going to give them provide their need, and there's there's so much room and space to kinda learn as you go just what we've done I think year to year and year after year it gets sweeter. You get to learn from what you've experienced adjust and really just get to experience joy altogether. As long. We keep keep open house scripture says we're allied on the hill we want to keep open house and share with others generosity. Jesus. Shared with us. Then you really can't go, right? Learned very true. So we look forward to the next grove swap. We hope this has been really helpful for you guys wanted to encourage you to look.

"And it indicates that there's like a distance between us where I have to be very respectful versus a, you know, one we're close, we can, you know, we have our own language we ever own style that we use together informal language, and slang, and you know, one way of indicating that is to use nonstandard language and one of those things become the different use of punctuation in texting and social media. So no, you haven't made that up, and there's actually a study all about this. So then what's up with these people him Keira who interviewed earlier that use periods in every sentence. And then they also went out with a guy once who was like, well, it's just the proper way to type, and I'm not going to compromise the proper punctuation just because it makes you feel more comfortable, basically. And I'm like what it's insane to use periods everywhere near texts. What's up with that? Who are these people that's going on in their brains? So that's again, the style, right? So the people who do that might value that sort of formal writing that that that kind of tone. Sure, we all know, these people in our relationships, our friendships who are always, you know, have something very important to say or who can go on at length about interesting studies or politics and speak in a very formal way. All the time when they're talking about these things, and that's their style. It's a different style and one that might clash with people who are more informal in these situations, but it's really about personal style. And how you want to represent yourself through language, and the choices that we make about whether we use periods and every sentence to adhere to more formal grammar, or if we are a little bit looser a little bit freer play a little bit more with our language can say something about our personalities, how we view ourselves. What we think is important. In life and just has the way as when we speak. If we use certain words or phrases can indicate where we are from or where we grew up using periods or using proper capitalization can indicate that we are, you know, perhaps educated or that we are writers or that we are intellectuals or that we value of formal tone in some way, and that says something about a person's style and personality, and that's just another way of being able to express oneself in a kind of different way that might be slightly different from the people around you to be a little bit of an individual. So I think those people there's they're just choosing a different style of communicating and it might clash with some of the expectations. But by choosing that style and communicating and that way, they are going to run into those clashes and we as humans who are really great at communicating. We'd navigate this in our everyday lives all the time. So it's just. Another new way of navigating that do you think that the norm is around texting are totally established now or is it still developing? Like, yes, there are these people who make me uncomfortable when they use periods after every sentence in capitalized. But like as you mentioned, it's them expressing their personal style. And so I guess I am curious if like that's just gonna keep going on. Or if these people who I think are in the wrong will relent and eventually start typing like me the proper way. Well, that's the beautiful thing about language is that it is always changing and always developing when a language stops changing for either an individual or as a whole society. That's a bad sign for that language..

"Keira or obviously she's not going to be the one that makes it out you know like what you're saying and there never was one where i was like like i got a little like java really but that was the worst of it there was never any point where i was like oh that's just ridiculous like why would we go there so that was what i didn't like at the beginning of the movie how it would end which is that he would he would end up going to tattooing and and walking into a cantina i was like when he wants to the doorway no no it would just be like his first time at the cantina it's going to shop there now even with the job of thing it didn't bother me as much because again he was never named like if you were the star wars if you're the person who seen star wars but isn't a deep star wars fan you might be like oh yeah there's that that that's the planet from the first movie right like i don't even think necessarily they hit it directly on the head there and there were a nice number of things that i felt like subverted things like jason saying the what explications i really loved the scene i really love the first meeting with chewy i thought yeah he's a light bulb that doesn't just to being on the nose because i knew chewy like as soon as the beast with you even there the fact that ends up being eight not just him saving his life as in the previous i think times even in the eu version that's a very like the imperials are like beating on this book eat right and like he steps in and nobly intervenes and this one it's no we gotta get outta here and we gotta run a scam a scam yeah and i you know i want him to be like you wanna do you want to get help and i really i thought it was funny i loved i laughed out loud at the hansel speaking wookey thing which i think is delightful if only because they never subtitled chewy which is great that's the way it should be i loved subtitling han with speaking really fantasy.

"Great introduction after everything that was willing to keira yeah but then that's not the constant sound of the right and they kinda like saint saint exodus took out for me a little bit it has a little bit more of a military i can latch my ears onto i'm partial to sue me okay cmih these are still mired notes yeah right if they were on other albums i've i'm not even sure what have mentioned sumi you know like i enjoy it but it's it's not like a career highlight me it's the highlight because it's not the body memory you know all of this there so you just threw it out there what would you actually though they at number two so listening to these albums again i think i realized that the one that has the most songs that i dislike is by affiliate and originally when it came out i you know i wanted to get into it we are to choose doing but there are some songs that i just have to skip on the well i will say i think that the weakest run of tracks on any album i've listened to while doing this podcast is the dark matter hollow virus off of follow i like virus but i i virus to bohol oh is literally the worst thing i think i need ever do kalo ancestors on the dual is i forget was hala one of the ones where i was looking at and it's it's in like seventeen eight or something like the time like that's part of why it's so off pudding is because it's there's an extra like eighth note beats in there which is just that's very disarming for 'cause even even on this album in general songs in five four six four seven four and three four and like it very much is breaking traditional time and that's also part of dark matter is so bad because it's it's like i was saying earlier it's one of those songs where it's fully free sung there is not a tempo there is not a time signature it's just whatever emotions she pours into the melody she's written and that's just.
