That's eight five five four five zero three seven three three here with you tonight. Got In nobody and mark and of course you bring up anything that you want. We of course are going to talk at some point about what's going on in Minneapolis but not just Minneapolis. Apparently it has spread to some other cities massive protests angry and rightfully so people's we can get into that plus Donald Trump has issued another one of these executive orders. This time it amazingly is not covert related. This is about an attack against social media apparently and wing and discussed that as well now of course your calls and thoughts are welcomed. That's where we're going to start here tonight with Dave on the line and this this is Dave Ridley from Ridley. Report DOT COM. I'm calling from New Hampshire. Go ahead Dave. Dave Ridley frantically looking for the speaker phone button to turn it off found. Okay so there's this claim you know that what you don't like it. Vote to change the system. Or if you don't like it leave well you know I did leave. I fled to knee Hampshire and I do vote but now the latest attempt at trying to make sure that your even your vote doesn't count the. That's going on in New Hampshire now. So is this thing called eight house. Bill Thirteen O nine which the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance is raising alarms about what it would do. Is it would demand the text of current law. So there's like when you have a local town. Vote the new. The new law would read quote unless restricted by any provision of law. The vote on at the Titian warrant articles shelby binding upon the town unquote so it just saying that the now the petition war articles or not even binding anymore if you can find one passage in two hundred thousand two hundred thousand pages of law so be pretty easy to find some passage somewhere in state or federal law. That says you you know that that might throw the petition. Warned article into doubt in terms of legality. Right it just makes it easier to sue. To overturn the will of the voters. Yeah I guess. I don't know a whole lot about this. I know that in the case of the the core starting of the courts. The school boards. Here in New Hampshire. These warrant articles are basically useless Or at prior to this or whatever had been useless because they would introduce them at the school board meeting and then some busy body would stand up and like completely gut the original intention of the warrant article. At least. That's what happens Here in in keene. So what can you read the text to me one more time? Because it's sometimes it's hard to follow legally I'm GonNa. I'm GonNa read a separate part of the text which is very similar quote unless restricted by any other provisions of law. The vote on petitioned warrant article shall be binding upon the school district unquote. Yeah okay so this and you're saying this somehow changes the previous warrant article legislation. Well it was already not very binding right because I remember the one of the first pieces of political activism. I didn't keen when I moved there. No four was to stand in a blizzard outside this this Vote right and to hold a sign advocating for Some stuff that some school board people were doing some school board people had reached out to me and they wanted to sell this building. This useless building. Right is unnecessary building. And so I stood there to try to help get you to help get. The buildings. Sold is vote. Yes on something or not. I don't know what it was but anyway sure enough that passed with flying colors. And didn't they just refuse to sell it? Even though the voters decided not sell it s case Saly I mean maybe five years later they solve it or something like that but well okay. I guess I'm confused David. It sounds to me like this now again. I'm not a lawyer so I don't really know what any of this legally stuff means. But my understanding is if it's saying that the war article will apply barring any sort of other provisions that that prevents it that that seems like sort of a A No brainer. Like that seems like it would make it not finding anything right like I probably already. It's already more would make it less binding. According to the article the author the author is Aubrey Friedman. And he goes into goes into more detail. What's I haven't I haven't looked I don't know man I mean it's all very confusing to me all this league lease. It's very very confusing. Well it's clear. Is that for whatever reason why this is? I don't know why. Local politicians tend to give up their power to state politicians. Who Don't want to. They seem it seems to happen. And then we'll state politician back at the At the civil war. And you'll see the answer to that you'll also find the answer in the seventeen th amendment to the constitution. Now there's the seventeen th amendment. It sounds like a good pro-democratic thing when you think about it. What it did is institute. Popular election of senators senators now. The thing is before that senators were chosen by the state legislatures right. So basically they gave the the Senate gave the states of voice in the federal government and the expectation was that they would be jealous of state power And when I say jealous I mean distrustful of the federal government handing power over to the federal government so the people then it was hoped would be able to use the play both ends against the middle if you will use the state governments to keep the federal government's in government in control and use the federal government to keep the state governments in control. But when you take away when you when they took away that power from the state legislatures and they they legislatures gave it away because they had to have participated in this right. Like three quarters of the states had to sign off this. Yeah they did. And that was in the context of the civil war. Okay there were. There was a whole slew of amendments. That took place at that time. And the civil war was the beginning of a castration of the state governments and the seventeenth demand has been pretty affected more or less the end of it so state governments are now fully owned subsidiaries of the federal government more or less. Oh by by the way I need to correct myself. Pretty majorly here. I've got it backwards. I guess thirteen nine is to make it so that it's harder for them. To overturn the will of the voters. I was thinking like me so I'm glad that we agree on this one now. Yeah so you're in this. This would make it. Actually Hard. To overturn the voters. Are you saying the Liberty Alliance is trying to alert people against this bill or in favorite? No no I'm backwards. The is trying to alert people that they might want us to the that it's that it exists. I don't know if the whole alliance supports it. But they're just drawing attention to it and it looks like the guy who's writing. This article thinks the the bill is potentially going to make things better. Are they meeting at this point the state legislature as I understand it? The legislative building is locked in That's correct that they're meeting on June nine hundred eleven coming back into session okay. Legislatures coming back. Property is safe when the legislature is. They're bringing back parking tickets now to in in downtown keene after having a break on that for for two two months or something like that. Hey Ridley anything else you WANNA share. Oh I've got a lot of videos coming out then maybe of interest but that on you'll see you'll see those on the channel You'll see what happened when I tried to follow up on Gary Ian. Remember that time in twenty eleven when he got kicked out of the farmers market and conquered not really but I believe it was great. The grabbed the like. They shot off his camera right when he tried to film them stopping him from you know demonstrating her or something like that on a public street. So I didn't keeping that in mind for a long time and I was never sort of in concord you know at the same time is the farmers market but I remembered that happened nine years ago and so I finally showed up. You know this weekend and I did the same thing as Garrett more or less straight. Didn't try to try to film and you'll see what happens love. I Love Ridley. He just he throws back to all these old things that happened years ago and then tries to hold the politicians accountable for it. Seven years later whatever. It is pretty entertaining. Because they just they they didn't know about it back then and they certainly don't know about it today. They try to stay ignorant of their bureaucrats violating people's rights. Hey thanks for the call tonight. Dave appreciate a check out the video channel over at Ridley report DOT COM. You'll probably enjoy it. He's he's pretty talented. We got more coming up. If is if we didn't aren't as if we didn't already suspect it but you know we've for those that don't know we have a medical clinic. We've had about twenty positives now on Covid nineteen but the funny thing is we've follow up the the positive The COVID patients that want to I mean they don't have to but if they want to after they Recovered they can do the antibody test so we cover. We follow them up with the antibody test so meals whether or not they have. Antibodies meaning that. If they do they would be immune from Kobe. Nineteen strain in the future. Our supposedly. They'd have it Gotcha and they could donate their plasma or whatever but the funny thing is we've had I think about sixteen patients. Who have agreed to do the antibody test and only one of them's come up positive. So how is it possible that have sixteen patients only ones coming up with antibodies unless the other fifteen patients never had covert to begin with? So how so? How did they test positive? I guess is my question which which test the first the first tatting it because they come in with symptoms and then we do the swab. Okay send it into the lab and then the lab tests that found out that the THC fly. The mango were positive. I don't know about that. I think it's you know I is. Yeah I would look up Covid nineteen Papaya or coconut mango. Because there have been reports that tropical fruit has been reported testing positive for this disease. Although I suspect that if you ran an antibody test on that tropical fruit you would find that it too had never had Yeah so I. I'm suspicious of all of these things and the fact that a lot of these hospitals are getting paid huge sums of money. There was a guy yesterday. Protesting there was some coverage of the protests in Los Angeles and one of the guys In Los Angeles is an emergency room. Either a doctor technician and he was on the streets with a sign talking about covid nineteen and he was saying that most of the people that a lot of the people are being tested reported as positive when in reality they weren't positive because he says the hospitals are getting huge sums of money for Kobe patients and right now. The hospitals are hurting. They don't half. The hospitals are amty during. They're hurting for money. Can Get so they're going to get. I mean when you think about it and this is one of the things that bothers me. The most. The hospitals are empty. The hospitals are laying people off. And when you think about it if if there was an epidemic going on there is mass. Death mass trauma going on from an epidemic. They would need people working outside their specialty to care for the dead or the dying right. They would need every Every medical person they could get on deck That's not happening at. That's not happening dancing in the aisles in the hospital because they got nothing to do which means anything that people are dying people. And it's a funny thing. I I realized when I read some of these news stories that I'd lived through a huge very deadly pandemic in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine during woodstock and I didn't even know it. A million people dead and I didn't know born and sixty eight a lot of the people who were of age. Don't remember in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine but the thing is we didn't we didn't miss a beat in sixty nine and nobody shot anything down. The businesses kept going. Woodstock kept going. There wasn't a thing that changed in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine due to a pandemic that killed what a hundred times more people than what this covert is claiming credit for it The fear kind of mentality that we see so commonplace these days would have even played with people back in the day back in the late sixties without of even caught on in any way. What they're doing. There's there's no way they could have pulled this off in the sixties. The people are so much more sheepish now than they were back then. It's it's absurd. Do you think that's just because of the government has been doing the indoctrination camps you know the the day prisons school? It's gotta be due to that and public fool system. I don't call it the public school system. I call it the public fool system. Well the communication significantly faster now too but that doesn't necessarily I mean that's a good thing right like it's a good thing that communication is faster but it also means that bad ideas can propagate to. What's a bad thing? Is that six corporations now control all broadcasting in the United States. And of course the reason for that is because they control all of the licenses broadcasting. I mean there's still some independent radio stations are well. Let's let's say nearly all broadcast. It's a good chunk especially in resent especially in the major markets. Okay and that's where opinion makes a big difference so they are driving opinion. And will I'll come back to this when we talk about the trump story thank you. Gene Christian anarchist appreciate hearing from you. There sounds like getting out of the car. And Hope you or getting into the car if so enjoy the ride So you can join us here. Dot Com is not liable under this section to thirty exemption basically for the content that users post to the website. That's the whole idea behind. You shouldn't have to have a law to make that clear right like if you didn't say it you shouldn't be liable for. It seems to me pretty clear. But that's what section to thirty as well Let me give you a counter example to to that theory which is Considering a newspaper Okay a newspaper is liable for some but not all of the things that it's post for example. I don't believe that a that. A newspaper would necessarily be liable for the content of a letter to the editor. Sure that contained for example Defamatory information but a staff to`real as staff editorial or of or straight news story right they might be liable so there's a key difference here the difference between what your users who are now employees or contractors. Whatever of the of the website what. Your users post shall not be infringing upon the liability of the website meaning. It will not caused liability to the website for whatever that content is. They are heavily only considered. True if you're not moderating okay or if you're not moderating too much and the and the thing is you're still liable for what your for your comments of course comments that come under the heading of the web of the website and also if you moderate too much than air creator human can be that just just as a man. Pruning a tree is responsible for the final shape of it because he pruned it and it could. Well be that. If you do a lot of Banzai on your comment section you had become liable for what was said there because hey you posted out you took out a whole bunch of non infringing content but you left this very obvious case of liable for example fares. An INTERESTING ARGUMENT THERE. I mean is. Are you saying that? That's how things have been up until this point you're standing that's my understanding of it and that's one of the reasons that social media platforms have been loath to either involve their own voice or to do too much Mediation but that's changed with the advent of fact. Checkers who are mostly it seems government mouthpieces. Who are brought in by the various And maybe not even the open government but deep space deep state mouthpieces mouthpieces for basically the intelligence community for the people running the media which may not be the open. The open government. Those things may not be under control for example of Donald Trump. At the moment. They're more likely under the control of faith with bureaucrats who run the intelligence agencies. Let me tell you more about the story. Trump joined by attorney. General William Bar addressed reporters in the Oval Office this afternoon before exciting the executive order quote. We're here today to defend free speech from one of the greatest dangers it has faced in American history. Frankly and you know what it's you know what's going on as well as anybody. It's not good trump told reporters. The president accused social media. Companies have having quote unchecked power to censor restrict edit shape hide in alter virtually any form of communication relating bonsai tree between private citizens or large public audiences. He also said that if he were able to shut twitter down he would. Drums order directs. Now I've got to say the one thing that scared me the most about Donald trump when he got elected is his combative you towards the press. Now since he's been in office I've got to say the press is not not. It has some liberal responsibility here. Is this whole relationship has gotten toxic and many people in the press. Have just kind of turned into you. Know trump hunting paladins. And they're going to you know they're going to keep on it until forever. I find it somewhat entertaining. I been somewhat entertaining but I also find it concerning. Sounds like marks with me on. And here's an example. What trump posted was a piece of opinion? Okay he said that if we use mail in voting that those votes will be it'd be rigged because they will be easier to rig because there will not be people going out to the polls possibilities of exit polls One expects to correspond with the actual vote. And so it's not outside. The realm of possibility. Twitter came around said that false. That won't happen. Well how how? The hell does twitter know that. How where does twitter get off making that a statement of fact ruin false? This vote will or will not be manipulated if it's by mail. It's a matter of opinion and to label that simply false simply false. That's that's insane. Nobody knows that trump may be wrong. But it's not it's not cut and dried is not a matter that you can look up in the Encyclopedia Britannica and say Oh yeah. That's not true we could look at Mail in voting as it's gone on in other states and these sorts of things if you want to look at some of that but We I mean there are arguments on both sides when it comes to this mail in voting thing and it's pretty clear which side the Democrats have come down on right and the Republicans have come down on another side. I'm so sick and tired of systems of everything that comes across. My desk is now a football. You have just so cove is political sick of it right right. You know either. He would do it but he can't really do that. At least you hope hold. What allegedly is the most powerful position in the free? Except it's not a free world. It's not a free world and also. There are a lot of things that the United States government can do or pieces of the United States government. The embedded bureaucracy can do because they're in control of things like the CIA which exists. I mean the CIA has openly or later admitted to manipulating elections all over the world. But yet somehow we're supposed to believe Russia well the CIA and the KGB. Do all the same things just like Russia today probably lies just as much about What's going on in Russia as the American media lies about what's going on in the United States but I think it's more likely for the US media to tell the truth about what's going on in Russia and lie about what's going on in the United States because I think in both countries if the people knew the truth there would be a revolution before Monday. So what's going on with this new order? That trump has passed according to the hill dot com and I have not read the order itself but it does direct an agency within the Commerce Department to file a petition with Federal Communications Commission to clarify the scope of section two thirty a proposition. They're asking the existing bureaucracy to reinterpret to take take another look. Take another crack at your interpretation because remember when it comes to governments so-called lawmaking process and there's all these checks and balances with the reality is it's just opinion right. Law is just an opinion backed by a gun. That's what Mark Stevens has called it and I think it's relatively succinct and sharp. They call a finished dream court issues opinions even the ones that I mean. You know the ones that most of them agree with majority opinions correct so and some of them have been overturned with different opinions. Different Supreme Court's evident more evidence that they are in fact opinions and a perfect example of that one of the most egregious episodes of you the of American history. I is shown in what happened during the new deal whereas FDR brought his new deal programs in they were struck down one by one by the Supreme Court to Supreme Court. Said you can't do that. You can't do that. You can't do that well what. Fdr Did clever man. That he was is he looked at the constitution and realize that the composition of the Supreme Court is not fixed by the competent compass by the Constitution and sells. He added people. Tell you what I'm GonNa do. I'm GONNA ask a whole bunch of young people to the to the Supreme Court to help you to help you guys out. And he proposed adding six people which would have made it fifteen nine. Well what happened after? He announced that he was strongly considering that. Is You know. Nobody wants their power. Deluded net so the Supreme Court got right and line in ratifying rubber stamping everything he said and this included things like agreed cases cases like wicker verses. Phil Burn in which it was determined that a man growing week on his own land to feed his own animals was engaged thereby interstate interstate commerce at subject to regulation by the Federal Government this being despite the fact that his that his actions were noncommercial. He wasn't looking to sell the weighty was looking to feed it to his own animals and it was entrust state in scope. The animals lived on the same land and in the same state as the farm. Now there's there is a constitutional amendment. I could get behind fixing the the size of the Supreme Court. Nine seems fine to me. I mean if that's the number we WANNA go with. I don't really care what goes on. I would prefer not to add anything because if you get because neither side will be able to agree on it if you just keep it fixed at nine. That's fine but you know the president shouldn't have that power to stack the deck like that. Yeah I mean you could pass a thing saying will add to in a decade or something. Because then you don't know who's going to be in control of the federal government in a decade so it's it's more neutral. I presume that Supreme Court buildings outfitted for nine justices. That's how many we have at this point. I doubt there's a lot of open space so I just presume nine adding would be a good idea. I don't see any reason to do it. there's no reason. I mean they've managed to find nine shells to sit in as justice. Why can't they find fifteen chills? They've got trillions of dollars. And they they can't find fifteen people are wearing the both where willing to both wear a dress and be bought. That seems unlikely Shirley thanks. Trump's order again is going to ask the Commerce Department to file a petition with the FCC to clarify the scope of section two thirty which is a proposition that has already drawn. Rebukes from Democratic members of the Five Person Commission. Another section of the order would encourage federal agencies to review their spending on social media. Advertising trump bar indicated that legislation on section two thirty could be incoming bar didn't provide further details while trump suggested they could just quote remove or totally change section to thirty again for those tuning in section two thirty of the Communications Decency Act is the one that extensively extensively gives platforms online legal immunity for content posted by their users by third parties. Not The platform itself. Fundamentally trump cannot ri right the section without Congress's help of course any efforts by agencies like the FCC to make determinations about how the law is applied would almost definitely be challenged ultimately become a matter for a judge to decide but unfortunately that's the reality of executive orders at least that we've seen even though they're not laws if a executive like trump or a governor of state rights out some order puts his signature on it and all of a sudden the executive branch starts acting like this is the law. Well the only way that you can challenge that is if you get arrested by them or targeted by this particular order. So therefore they've got you under their thumb. Now maybe you've got access to money to buy an attorney if they didn't freeze your bank accounts and you know. Crackdown on you and that way presuming. They didn't kill you while arresting you right. Like squeezing the life out of your neck So presuming you can do all that and bring it to an attorney and the attorney takes the case and you pay the attorney and then you can go to court. And maybe maybe you'll have a chance of convincing the robed men and women at some level. Because you'll probably have to go higher and higher and fight this continually and spend God knows how much money on the whole process. Then if it all works out in your favor after you've spent one hundred thousand dollars or whatever the attorney's fees would be to go up to the US Supreme Court. Then maybe the men and women in those robes would say you know what that executive was wrong for making this order order overturned to there goes five years of your life right spent in courts fighting over this quite possibly in prison because remember. You don't appeal until after you've been convicted and sentenced tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of your dollars because when the government fights a case they spend your money when you fight a case you spend your money. Yeah they've got a very simple rule. It's it's very clear. Okay first off. If you screw up you gotta Pay Okay. Second off if the COP screw up. You gotTa pay if the judiciary screws up you gotta pay me. Yeah if the prosecutor screws up you gotTa pay and if the Supreme Court screws up you gotTa Pay You. Know matters grows up. If is the surf the slave to the system. Who must finance it? They say that we are the government and that is true when we have to pay for things like we are the government because the because the government comes to us for the money. But that's it. It's not like you get a choice as to whether or not to lay new cheese response to that was government. Is the coldest of cold monsters. Coldly lies this lie. Drops FROM SCRIPTS THAT. Certainly circumspect about two lies that it tells it has to be careful to confine. Its lies to things not easily verified which brings us back to why I said I oppose secret ballot voting and the reason is I want a piece of paper published by the government shows my name and what real what vote. They recorded for me because that way they can't just throw my ballot away and record whatever they feel like. I want to see that but I'm not sure that would entirely work. What does that mean well? It's the part the nineteen ninety-six law that extensively made it so that website operators don't have to be held or cannot be held legally liable for the statements made by their website users in a comment section or a forum or Youtube or some other kind of site where content is sourced from the user community. we can talk more about that but we're actually going into a discussion about of all things the secret ballot with you in the studio tonight. It's Ian Nobody and mark now. Nobody you are going to be on a ballot. Likely coming up this fall as you're going to be running for the governor's gubernatorial election here in New Hampshire against the incumbent in the Republican election up against Sununu this tyrant who actually is referred to His Excellency. In the governor's emergency orders. What are you running as a liar for a wishful thinker? I'm lying is a better gangster Ronnie and and I'll tell you what if if if any other gang brought me in as as gangster consultant. How how wanting to know how they could be a better gangster and I looked at the record and I saw that their record was what the US government or the New Hampshire state government was doing. My response would be first off you guys are stacking too many bodies. And you'RE GONNA PISS PEOPLE OFF. You cannot go around stacking bodies and expect to get away with it for a long time because you start killing off people's loved ones and they don't care about civility anymore. And they should not well the New Hampshire. The the New Hampshire gang is definitely not stacking nearly as many bodies as some of the other ones out there. I mean there's already horrific stories that come in some other places in fact. Minneapolis is the most recent one and we can talk more about what's going on. They're not killing anybody or as many people. Okay but people are definitely dying. In New Hampshire. People are definitely getting brutalized in New Hampshire and lost in the Minneapolis. Story has been this kid who got dragged from. His hair dragged from his car by his dreadlock. This was in Albany New York. This is in New Hampshire as I understand it was New Hampshire went to Albany New York that backwards. Maybe he was an album Albany man who came to Newham. I think we'd better find out because I thought it was to Hampshire state police that that did this at. I was planning on making it a topic at at my press conference. I need to know who was where at what time because have to decide whether I'm rooting for the police. Not on this one. I've not reading for the police. Either way he is from Albany from Albany. Okay so but but it happened in new in New Hampshire Yup. He was accused of driving a stolen car. His car was not stolen Okay they simply got it wrong. They broke his window dragged him from the car. Biased dreadlocks okay. This is not acceptable. Behavior is right here in New Hampshire and we need to get out in the street and we need to start. Start doing something about these things because we cannot have this kind of brutality. Going on in in in New Hampshire. It's unacceptable but certainly And the other thing is even when they don't kill you know stacking bodies includes to me doing permanent irreparable harm to people and they have done permanent irreparable harm to me by throwing me in prison. They have done permanent irreparable harm to many innocence by throwing them in prison by taking their freedom by taking their opportunities away from them by taking their businesses away from them at this is absolutely unaccept- and you think that moving to a a non secret or public ballot would actually be of assistance. Now let me see if I understood what you said earlier. You said that you support Not using a secret ballot against a secret ballot. Because you want to be able to verify publicly that you have indeed voted and the way in which you you did vote. Yeah and I won't say I haven't pat cast any votes that I'm ashamed of. I voted for Bill Clinton in Nineteen Ninety two and I am. In retrospect a shamed of that. I think that my my motives were good. I thought he was going to do good things. But the effects of my actions were bad. More people went to prison. I thought I thought he might even legalize weed since he'd smoked himself. I remember thinking that back then. Yeah yeah those are good old days years later or whatever but you're getting pretty legal. Well now okay so marketing I'm just going to predict here. You're going to object to his opposition secret ballot because the traditional reason for secret ballots is so people can't intimidate you think about it. Likely trump is in place right now because of the secret ballot I mean how many husbands out there voted for trump told their wife they voted for Clinton. There's quite a few of them because they're wife can't go check and see right right. Everybody goes into the little thing By themselves in in the last case I went to vote. I took my son and we filled it out together. you know it. It's probably a better civics. Lesson than it is statistical likelihood. My vote was meaningful and so yeah pick whenever he wants but we had a conversation about whether we should vote for the Republican or the Democrat or the Libertarian. Now clearly he did not get the most unbiased opinion You know so. He decided to vote. Libertarian in the gubernatorial election. That was recently. I don't know here in New Hampshire but now every two years now I'm a resident of Saipan and I have to worry about you. People in all your nonsense voting okay. We have where the CNN by the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana. Okay so you're still officially residents even though you're not there got my driver's license okay. I went down to Florida afterwards. I wasn't a resident of their to nobody. What is it that you have to say to respond to that that objection? That's where the most common reason to have a secret ballot is that you can't be intimidated. Vote in a certain way it. It is a. It is not an unreasonable objection. There are people Employers husbands wives. Who might who might intimidate? You say I'm GonNa fire you if you don't vote the right way but but let's let's keep our eye on the ball. What is a vote? A vote is is there to impose your will on your neighbor. Okay and I say that in in my case I encourage people to vote for me because I hope there will is not to impose on their neighbor but yet you know that's what a vote is and if you're going to do that if you're going. I'm going to have my opinions backed by a gun. Then you should be willing to stand up and loudly and proudly explain why you you thought that. That was a good idea. Well I mean the but that doesn't mean that people won't be pushed to vote for one you know. Hey Look I don't feel strongly enough between these two as to whether or not I should vote. And then whoever it is that's intimidating in whatever way they're intimidating might say well that's fine. I feel strongly enough that you should go vote so go ahead and do that or the consequences are whatever the consequences are. Maybe the consequences. Are you have to eat hot dogs for the next four years that you make yourself or the you know the consequences are they beat you up in the back alley are but soon I shop you got here? It'd be shame semester. Now there's a there's a way to split it down the middle you were talking about using the blockchain to vote and that is a immutable ledger. It's it's really great technology and I think it should be used for voting but one could have ones hash or whatever. The terminology is this Secret blockchain vote that still accountable accountable. So the the vote would be next to the whatever the Hash is but you would have your Hash and you have to give it out now. That presumably I that does not sound like a bad idea. There might be a compromise in that area where you could choose whether to open your vote or not. That's a good idea. Give it give the option to the motor. Yeah ex exactly basically. If you publish your key your your public key okay. Then that would perhaps be enough to decrypt your vote without casting a vote on your behalf or I don't know if that solves the intimidation issue. There's some pretty awful news from these protests that turned into riots turned into looting and lost sight of what the original point of all of it was supposed to be. We can tell you more about it but we've ended up talking actually about the secret ballot. Is it something that we'd be better without? That's what nobody is here. Arguing tonight our co host and then Mark you're taking the side that these secret ballot is a valuable thing to have I. I'm leaning towards that side myself but I'm open to persuasion on this. We're going to continue with that discussion but also I wanNa make sure that you know about Inter you know at Inter coined has actually been working on helping voting. It's one of the things you can do with inner coin. They've been helping democratize power to the people in their local communities. Cryptography enables people to hold secure and private elections about any matter of community governance and could even be used for securely tallying and reporting results for national elections. Inter-korean has also pioneered probably random polling. That is unaffected by poor. Voter turnout or spoiler effects. It can be used to continuously. Adjust Levers of monetary policies. Such as how much you issue the next day. Inner coin is attempting to regain some of our freedoms that are threatened on the Internet and in Meat Space. And we think that's important here on free. Talk Live so important. That freetalklive accepted forty thousand dollars worth of inter-korean Tokens from Inner Quinn Inc for advertising if you think freedom is important to checkout enter coin at Inter coin dot org you can invest in this project and potentially make big gains or just be involved and perhaps shape its future that's Inter- coin Dot Org. I suspect Inter coin. You'd be able to set up your voting and different ways and we were just talking about a possible Middle Ground. Where maybe the voter could decide know? Flip a switch do they to publish the results. You know what they decided to vote or not right. I'd be a benefit. Well so you know. Science fiction often precludes the predicts the future right. I remember reading a comic back in the eighties. I believe it was called anarchy comics It suggested that we would all have a communication device that we carry it around with us on a wrist. Of course they were right You have the device on my wrist but I actually used the one that I carry around my pocket and that this device would give us the ability to participate in government. Vote on everything now. That doesn't really happen but it wouldn't take much to create an APP that uses the blockchain. I suspect the guy the boys over there at inner coin already have something rolled out. That will exactly work for everybody in the United States to get Suffrage and be able to vote on every issue every time and what I propose to. Nobody was essentially to that. We have a a Swiss bank account number we call it a hashish. The crypto world. I think you could tell me if I'm wrong on that terminology a Hashes a way to mathematically prove that certain data is what you think it is. But I'm wrong. What what do you call the account number for you know when address publicly you the address is a Hash but What you send to is is in address. Okay which is derived through hashing from the public key which in turn is derived through through hashing from the private key so I would vote through my public key and either published the public key to say. Hey I this is what I voted every issue every time because this is my Gizmo and it says what What I am and I have to vote with my fingerprint or retina. Or both you know maybe a drop of saliva who knows what they they come up with to make this stuff. is foolproof is. I would hope that we get rid of the state and end voting but given that we are so soon the other at the you know so i WanNa make sure that. What's clear here? Is that okay so one time I made a deal with my wife that we would exchange votes that she would get that. I I would vote the way. She wanted to vote from governor on up and she would vote the way I wanted to vote from state Senate on down and that way. We weren't voting against each other. I believe this is something that couples should be able to do. I don't know if it's legal or not. If not come get me. Come and get me and so we made this exchange now. I could have. I did not but I could have gone in and done whatever I wanted to do. And that sort of the purpose of the secret ballot now she could have done it too know. We did this two times one time. We did it with absentee ballots and we actually filled about together. But the other time we got into the booth and we just had trust the other person that they did they. They said they were going to do sure. Hopefully if you're spending your life with somebody you can trust them to do this. But maybe you can. So let's say that I chose not to do that. Because I I consider my vote sacrosanct and I must vote by we're conscience or whatever nonsense. Come up with and she goes then she's going to be like. Hey I just want to check and make sure you stuck to the deal because I stuck to the deal so I'm going to trade you my key for your key and we're gonNA look at each other's votes honey. I don't WanNa do that right. Like you can see how the secret vote. Not so secret anymore. So let's say that you know instead it's me who's like all right honey. Tell me whether you voted right or not. GimMe your private key and I need to know what you did. You did the right thing and I mean you know somebody could. The abusing husband is a is a trope for a reason right exist or a criminal gang trying to get their their guy into options or whatever so I don't know if there's any real way to to address nobody I'm what do you think Whether certainly nothing that can prevent an abusive person from violently. Getting what he wants from From people in all manner of ways and even if you have that on one topic voting. There's still a thousand things that your hypothetical abusive husband can. Do you get things. That he wants out of his Out of out of his wife and he and they could even in today's system The abusive person you know mythological gangster coming into your your you know. Your Business and saying you better vote for reelect mayor such and such or you know we're going to hurt you. They can still say. Hey you need to take a photograph of your ballot to prove the way you voted. You not only need to take a photograph of the ballot. You need to you know. Take video you between the time when you finish the ballot take video of the ballot and then watch you know take continue taking the video as you go and put the ballot into the machine that reads the ballot and they attempted to to head off that possibility in New Hampshire by making it illegal to post pictures of your ballot online and all of us I believe posted pictures or many of us posted pictures of our ballot online because we objected to that should be free to take a photograph of your ballot. You WanNa do that. Wait a second though Ian so I don't think that the taking the video and putting a few putting it in the box is necessary because if the gang wants to decide whether or not you've voted. All they have to do is put get one person on the election. Board thing to say yeah here. The people who went back and got second ballots. GonNa let you get a second ballot. If you already put it in the box right I I understand all they have to do is get a picture of your ballot like Click. That's it and if you filled out your ballot but then they wouldn't if you actually put it in there I understand that. Yeah they would know whether or not you went back for another. I see everybody gets a marker not a pencil and you know that's that so that wouldn't give it to them completely though they would know that they would know that you had not cast different vote. They would not know that you had cast the vote that you photographed because you could have stuffed in your pocket and walked away all right. We got more coming up here thoughts. It's Ian the nobody formerly known as rich Paul Edmark and we're going to go back to your phone calls and thoughts Derek. J. Freeman is on the line. You may know him from Derek. As victimless crime spree. But more recently he's the president of any pay and we've been very excitedly telling you about some of the cool stuff that any pay is doing. There's always there's always something new that those guys are working on over there. Actually I went out to their their home. Base of operations in Portsmouth New Hampshire a little earlier this week and you were there. Yes nobody there. That's right and we after a just a miserable day on the Beach Memorial Day. We had a nice hour or so with With Derek J. and Stephen J is on the line here tonight. What did you want to share with us? I love putting things on the record. I'm always recording videos publishing them online making blog posts and so I would want all of my votes to be public now. I can already talk about what things would the way. I voted Or keep it a secret but I did something new today. I left a true review. It's a review for some salad and some produce that I bought from a store that I signed with the same signature of my bitcoin wallet that I use to purchase them in in essence. I linked my purchase to my review in a way. That's mathematically cryptographic cryptographic provable. So everyone can know this review actually happened. I actually bought the product because there's tons of stores. They love to get reviews. But what about all those fake ones huge problem? I Want Truth. I want authenticity. Yeah I don't want the petition making up a bunch of claims. That aren't true about something. Yeah just because they can pose some fake reviews. I really don't read reviews for this very reason because there's too much junk that I just don't know how much junk there is what there isn't and I find that it's it's bad enough that customers out there. Some of them are nuts right like there's absolutely crazy and they're going to write things they have. Unreasonable expectation is not always right or whole variety of things. I mean I remember. I need to get kicked out of the store probably more than ten years ago. I sold something on Ebay. The guy gave me some bad rating. I remember how they used to raid on. Ebay gave me a bad rating because something that I didn't mention was included wasn't included right like he expected to get something and he didn't get it but it wasn't mentioned upon looking at it. I see you didn't have this thing mentioned but I expected to get it so I gave you a less than stellar review. Like it wasn't in the descript exists and people like him so they're hard enough to deal with and then there's the trolls out there. That are just trying to buy their stuff. Well the Nice thing about hanging your reviews off actual transactions actions on the blockchain is in order to to do that to you a competitor. Would I have to give you money And they're going to hesitate to do that if they're intent is to harm you right. It's almost like with proof work. Yeah because I mean so I could be a public persona. I be me Derek. J. Leaving Review for business or I could use a wallet. That's owned by say a soon anonymous person so I could be like. There's a food reviewer in the area who goes by the Phantom Gourmet and you don't know the Phantom Gourmet restaurant but the Phantom Gourmet could leaving truly authentic review this way and no one else could impersonate him. Really really sharp. Does it work? Tell me more you said you did this today. So by what mechanism did you do this? So it was made possible by a few different components people who value truth and freedom first of all a group of people called true reviews. They came up with this system Second of our website. Bitcoin true reviews dot. Io second we used bitcoin. Bitcoin may this possible because of the cryptography involved so when I used my wallet to pay for the Salad I then used the same wallet to sign my review so I posted that to the blockchain and calm third. Any pay made it possible because any pay linked them altogether so the merchant is using any pay. The customer is using any pay product called energy city when they swipe their money button it pays for their product and leaves a receipt. They can click that receipt. Leave a review and they are the only person who can do that only the owner of that wallet. Who paid for the product can leave a review? Now is the review linked to the address to the public key. And the reason I ask this is if the if the review is linked to the public key then anybody who pays that wallet that you paid by virtue of having an address attached to that. I'd they're they're paying an address which is derived from the same public key and hopefully they would be able to see that that review because they're paying the same person is is that how this works or I'm not sure I understand what you're saying basically what I'm saying is is anybody who has the the address to pay the same person able then to look up your review by that address. That's a great question and I don't know the answer. I'll tell you this. I'm on the true reviews. Io Site Right now and there is a search option here where you can search for presumably businesses that have or maybe don't yet have or whatever reviews so I searched. I presumed that you went to fresh press. Is that what you're referring to? Yes okay so I've been fresh press. That's why I knew which one it was because we took a a bitcoin tour in Portsmouth which is where Derek and they've got several local businesses down there. And when I when you said it was fresh salads I knew it had to be fresh pressed typed in fresh press. Portsmouth New Hampshire and it came up. Only one review is on the site. It is however not from you Derek. J. But from Stephen Zeiler. Who is your partner there yes. I was speaking on behalf of Steven so when I say my did it. Yes it was actually Stephen. We were there together. You're in the photograph. So you're in the review you're not the actual official reviewer of this. It says verified by any pay. It's got Stephen Zeiler at money. Button DOT COM which money button is the method by which you paid bitcoin. You say bitcoin but just to be clear. It's Bitcoin. Sv only that allows us right. This isn't something that you can do with bitcoin. Cash right. It wouldn't be possible. Because the data that were actually storing in the blockchain the text and pictures the rest it requires a blockchain that can fit data okay and it goes inside the blockchain. It's non held outside like segregated witnesses. That's correct. The signature is air amazing and the signature amd the end the tax or just the signature the text and the signature. Elliot all goes onto the chain very cool and so this seems like a pretty new website is still in an Alpha version by the way so for those unfamiliar Alpha is Lake a very very early test operation. Usually you can't even use something in Alpha as a member of the public. This is pretty brand new. Thanks for breaking this news here tonight. Derek Freeman maybe. We're going to see more of this in the future. Was there anything else you wanted to share. Yeah you guys were talking about Voting and whether or not people wanted to make it public and this is the way that you could vote for something This this technology of dining your vote and then having it be cryptographic. Provable to others is reality. Today it's just speculation and as about the ratings on twitter and and trump saying. Oh we don't want these ratings. He's GonNa shut him down. I say do more. We should have more ratings. It's the same as having a warning symbol or a warning label like Oh this. This product might contain nuts. The okay so why not let as many people leave reviews or warnings or attach their name to a person's claim as poss- as possible and that it all gets sorted out so CNN says this is fake news but then next news media says No. This is authentic. I can say okay. Well look these. These people disagree and now. I have a reputation that CNN lies and Next News Network tells the truth. Derek J. Freeman. You claim that this Police officer killing this Guy During arrest was murder. Which degree murder is it? Well that's a great question because it's probably not murder when the police do it. There's probably like a legal exemption for sure that let's talk about a moral murder as opposed to a legal murder because cops You know the the laws are written for the ruling class and cops are part of the ruling class or at least the protectors of the ruling class. What what I would say. There is everything that I saw on. That man's face His the everything that I saw in his action made me think that he intended to kill that man and I I personally when he could that is the case that he intended to kill that man that he had some reason for doing it like maybe somebody had told him. Go out and kill somebody today. Let seems unlikely to me but I like you. Can you interpret what you want? The guy's face that's fine but cops are trained very specifically and for probably pretty good reason to not really listen to the people who they're arresting but they're also not trained to put their knee on. Somebody's his name was in the wrong place. I'm not claiming he wasn't I'm just curious. What kind of murderer? It is if it's murder while first degree murder premeditated up so that means the second degree murder is not premeditated he probably didn't know really who the guy was the kids. It doesn't seem to be some kind of ongoing animosity between the two so first degree murder doesn't seem to really be a thing. What does it have to be? I hold on what? At what point does it have to be planned in order for it to me? I agree if you if this cop had never heard of this guy before. Didn't wake up in the morning with the intention to go and commit murder against somebody today but then decided in them. You know like right when he was pulling the guy over you know what I'm GonNa go ahead and ice this guy that would be premeditated Louis. No evidence for it. Well there's no evidence for it so likely. It will not be premeditated imitated. But there's also another kind of murder which is called felony murder for example. If I'm engaged to wit selling marijuana someone comes in pulls a gun on me threatens my life I pull out a gun. I get him before he gets me. I kill him. Guess what. I'm considered to be guilty of felony murder because someone died at well. I was in Commission of a felony and I believe that's treated similarly to if not the same as premeditated murder. I would disagree with your assertion on that. I would say that somebody had to be murdered in order at the very least some kind of Hamas Know illegal homicide. Here's an example of of felony murder prosecutions. That have really taken place You're out committing a felony with your friend. Joe Police show up and shoot your friend Joe. Yup Guess What? You can be charged with felony murder in some states. I don't think the general public finds that to be an acceptable way to charge him. I'm not saying it hasn't happened. I just don't think that most people are like wait. So you shot the other guy and then charged the the the other crook with murder. The cops shot the other guy and then charged the crook with murder. That doesn't make any sense. It doesn't to me. Although to some extent the concept of felony murder make sense in that. Let's say let's say a played out a different way. They went in and see in tending to rob me but not kill me but ended up killing me in the process. That is a much better case. What the felony murder case statute was originally intended to explain to me. This way. You know the two of us go to a convenience store I leave you in the car with the The keys running the car running and I go in. I robbed the place. I decided to shoot the guy on the way out. You you know. Take me in the car. We split the money. And you're murderer. Even though you didn't know anything about it or I mean he probably heard the question there as I understand it is going to be. Was I aware of the robbery because if I was aware of the robbery I'm liable for the murder right. You would certainly have to know that the robbery was going to occur ahead of time. Right that point you're committing a felony right otherwise I'm still liable maybe for accessory after the fact if I drove you away from the scene even look good that you took half the money. Yeah and taking taking the money. That's definitely not gonNa look good all right. Let's go to rusty. He's in Carolina. Not sure which one rusty you're on free talk live air. You are on the air for the moment. Go ahead rusty. I don't know what you just said but it sounded like the S. word so I'm not GonNa hold that up fifty five four fifty free. That's eight I don't know if it was gonna be a good accent but he was trying something there you gotta remember. We're all broadcast radio up. You say something that sounds like the S. word or the F. Word or a few others we unfortunately have to say goodbye but you can always call another night and try the crank again all right so I think we've finished up this voting conversation unless you guys felt like you didn't get everything and there's only one thing I'd add which is that. The Inter coin voting differs from most voting in that you might just be casting a vote. That's that is binding on a cassette community for example users of particular coin. And in that case there's no question that that the That the voting is okay. If it's part of the contract that underlies the coin and you can avoid the consequences of the vote by not using the coin so consent communities would would have a whole different set of considerations when when it comes to voting other unlike a government which is imposed upon. You whether or not you can send so to go back before we get into the riots. No such going on in different places the country right now. I just wanted to finish up a little bit more about this executive order that Donald Trump today and signed section. According to the hill of the order would direct complaints about alleged political bias on platforms like twitter to the Federal Trade Commission and encourage the agency to review whether they constitute quote unfair deceptive. Business Practices Unquote. The trump administration created a tool last year for reporting claims of bias on social media platforms. The White House. I acknowledged vague plans for the executive order on Wednesday. Evening officials worked out to finalize details and a draft version had leapt. That did closely line up with the final order. The executive order follows a multiday feud between the president and twitter which is his favorite social media platform. At least that's the one that he's known for. Yes certainly known for tweeting quite a bit. I've gotta say I have some sympathy for the position once a plastic position a trump trump's to some extent. Now I'm not. I'm not supporting it. I say I have some sympathy and that's a different. Feel sorry for it. Listen to what I have to say. the the the concern is is that once a platform get so large and so ubiquitous. And I'm thinking I'm of you. Youtube you facebook twitter to some extent whatever the platform might be. I would definitely include twitter in in my version of this definition. And I'm with you once it gets lost enough and I don't know how to define this. I'm not exactly sure. But then they become sort of the public square as it were where speech should be allowed now. I get that once. You're allowing any kind of speech that tends to drive out those with the more. Did you just say that? The bigger the company gets the more it becomes a public square. Are you saying that a successful company should become nationalized that she become nationalized? I'm claiming that the rules get a little different when you when y when they choose to only allow one group of people to speak than it looks like that's the majority opinion in society as a whole and it isn't necessarily the case this guy he's humbler. This seems like jealousy may very well. I have no idea you're Chelsea is all well. It's it's it's not your website okay. So other people ran a website in a way that you wouldn't have run the website. That's and you're mad. Because they're able to sculpt their website to look the way they want it to. Well that's what you're supposed to be able to do with your website whether or not you're successful or whether you're brand new or you're unsuccessful and see the danger there to from from my point of view and like I say I'm ambivalent on this on this point I understand I think what mark is saying which is once a once a service becomes so ingrained that literally. It's the only way to reach a massive number of people and the facebook twitter YouTube The problem is at that point. It becomes very possible to control the discussion of the entire nation by controlling those platforms. And that's very dangerous. I think but they should be coming up on remember when you first heard about bitcoin long. Did it take you to realize this little project would soon change the world? You kinda wish you had gotten involved sooner. Well now's your chance to be part of the next revolution in money. Inter coin is working to finally make crypto go mainstream it's designed to be scalable enough to support everyday payments and even elections without the state. Bitcoin was originally supposed to be appeared to peer cash system. The way we would pay one another without having to trust any third party but instead over time it mostly became a store of value. That's because every ten minutes. The bitcoin network must put all transactions into a block and that block can only hold so much. If crypto is to become mainstream for everyone to use it in everyday payments. We need a new architecture when that's as secure as bitcoin while being far more scalable checkout enter coin dot org to find out more and maybe pick up some of his coins for yourself. Also we've been discussing the SECTION TO THIRTY OF THE COMMUNICATIONS DECENCY ACT. That doesn't sound particularly interesting section to whatever of this and that act well. This one's kind of important because it is the legal framework that essentially allows companies on the Internet to to allow their users to publish things to their platform so it could be a simple as comment section over at elect nobody dot com or it could be a massive mega website like youtube that allows in theory anyone to post mostly whatever content that they want to and and. I don't I don't want to put words and you guys his mouth but nobody in marketing. Inner in the studio here tonight and nobody in market seemed like you guys had. I don't know I don't want to say you agree with trump on this but it seems like you said of sort of understand the mentality or there's something to statement right like the for me. The Libertarian Statement. That hey it's Your Business. It's your platforms your website. It's your website. You can do what you want on it. It holds a lot of resonance. Yeah until you sort of see these these big organizations that have know maybe worked with the NSA and the CIA for a decade or more in order to further cement their power. I don't know I'm just imagining some dark. Things may go on. Just be guessing here right. I don't know but somehow or another they get so big that they become the public forum as opposed to just a place to give your opinion. You know it's one thing if you go on like storm front which is a well known white supremacists website and you go on there and you say. I don't think this is exactly the way it should be fellas right like you go on there. You know nobody. Nobody really cares in cash out or whatever but when you go on facebook and facebook decides look. I don't like what you have to say. And you'RE NOT GONNA get to say it and that's happened here on free talk live. We got banned from facebook. And it's fine for thirty days. It isn't yeah it is. It's not our website. How I ll understand how I don't understand. Sounds like to me like you're talking out of both sides of your mouth. Well I like the idea of private property but if you get to successful then you need to be subject to what government regulation rules arbitrary diktat by bureaucrats. I okay here. Here's a very similar position. And maybe maybe it'll help you see where I'm coming from. I don't believe in antidiscrimination laws. Okay I think in general. They're bad meaning. You think someone should be free to discriminate and their places to discriminate in their place of business. But let's say that the government has come in and formed a cartel like it has in the banking industry and all of the members of that cartel then choose to discriminate against say users of crypto currency in order to maintain a competitive advantage. That cannot be a sale well because of that involvement. Then I think that I definitely have some sympathy with the idea that either the people that they discriminate against should be released from those laws so they can go out and form their own bank. M- okay or should be free to bring suit against the bank in cartel a cartel you've got that doesn't apply here. I don't disagree with what you're saying there. If you're gonNA live and die by the state which is what the banks do ran. You will be subject to all the states rules which include lawsuits and things like that. But that's not what we're talking about. We're not talking about a state enforced cartel the banking system. We're talking about. What is a relatively free market place as far as you compare the different industries of businesses out? There you know you don't generally need to get a health code permit or an occupancy permit or license of some sort to go and open a website all you need to do is either know how to host it yourself and put your own surfer online or hire somebody to do it for you and your Ip where your your ISP will throttle your. We'll throw throttled people's Bandwith to your site whereas it will increase the bandwidth to things like facebook and Amazon and paid to do that and they should be free to do that. That's not again what we're talking about with the idea of a government enforced cartel look. I WANNA start a website and facebook. I don't I don't like injustice or fixed stacks a fixed game or a stacked deck and I don't care whether a private organizations doing or the government's doing don't use their website. Look there are which really facebook for all your talk about how you don't like this and that you're the one who's there. I use facebook as a marketing tool for free. Talk Live okay. Well then you got to accept whatever. The problems are with that marketing tool. I get that there are problems with it and I pointed out all the time as often as I can't her and you're that's fine to point them out but then you cross a line when you start talking like you were talking earlier like well once you get too big we need to look at the government here something that seemed like what you know what. I'm saying okay. Well then. Why don't you figure it out? I don't have a solution others. Yeah Lucien the free marketplace or what semblance of a marketplace that we have as I was saying the market any market isn't working right. Don't have free facebook bigger. We don't have a free market. Oh cut you have the freedom on the Internet to start a competing website. There's nothing stopping you from doing that. That's a people over at Gab. Decided they wanted to do something like that and they did it and pay for them. They're still around. I think They and they got a lot of press coverage and this and that. And there's there's other options and other alternatives out there including some decentralized once okay. Yeah you see the the issue mention and do something the issue that I have and one of the reasons that I have some sympathy for Merck's position and even for trump's position is that the media is in my opinion pretty much a wholly owned subsidiary of the government because the government owns all media. Do you mean facebook or you talking to launch a major the major media in terms of TV radio. What have you well? The reason that facebook became preeminent or one of the major reasons that facebook became pre. Eminent is the amount of media that was poured on them by the major media. The major media doesn't doesn't talk about what's gets posted to places other than facebook twitter. And you are you talking about in recent years or are you talking about when facebook was growing A both but was based in recent. Yeah I was GONNA say I in two thousand and eight and two thousand nine or whatever when facebook was Was growing and competing with places like my space for instance or two thousand six or whenever that sort of time frame. I don't think they had the same media clout that they do today. I don't think they have the same clout but I think they were pushed by the media in ways that other other platforms have not ban. I think that that Mark Zuckerberg's little college website. I'M NOT SURE. Facebook has about the twitter. Has the reporters are Gaga over twitter? Twitter people will do like twitter. Because it's kind of a different platform than facebook. It's supposedly easier to reach influential people on twitter every time. I've sent a tweet to an influential person. They've never paid hand. I don't even have a green check next to my name. WanNa whatever couldn't get a green check really name. Yeah well. They were very important to twitter and facebook to control the narrator animation able to see their website. That says you control whatever they want about Anderson with because as soon as you say that they shouldn't and I'm not saying you're saying they shouldn't just sort of Malaysia didn't should not control mechanism. What through like what's going to prevent them from. I'd not coming up with a system for doing it but I'm saying you shouldn't lie. You shouldn't censor speech especially speech. That isn't outrageously false. That you should also have the ability to construct whatever sort of website you want to which has whatever claims you went to whether you're talking about some outrageous ridiculous claim like the the earth is flat or whether you're talking about Saric by eliminating broadcast licenses and see market opens up to a wider variety. I don't I don't think eliminating broadcast licenses is going to put a stop to Media but it wouldn't hurt. There's more coming up this covid. Nineteen thing has turned the world upside down. I mean we make our decisions to take a call or not taking a call or you know extend to call or not extend to call based on a variety of right so while we allow anyone to call in about any topics along it's within the FCC's bounds which is still relatively large range. We also are regularly sculpting the message. Then people here on this radio program and one of the ways that we do that is through the way of course that we respond to the callers but also in which order the we take the calls and the topics that we're discussing so we have control over a fair amount of things here on free. And that's there's nothing wrong with that and if we all of a sudden get on seven hundred radio stations which isn't really possible but you know. Five hundred is technically as far as talk. Radio stations are still on six hundred. I don't think so probably not these days. The five hundred range would be my guess. There's just not six hundred talkers in probably but they're probably not in that you could be like there's only so many. Yeah so anyway. We're GONNA get into your phone calls and thoughts here just. I just wanted to put out the idea that look if I understand. It's frustrating when there's a mega behemoth in an industry right like they are generally awful and their policies are no fun to work for as an employee and infrequently they affect Average folks in certain undesirable way. So I can I get all that and I get the frustrations. I quit facebook more than two years ago. And it's been great for me. Personally I mean I support that facebook's the worst of them I mean if you look at. Where's well youtube which Google but? I use Google products but I think. Youtube is really control platform. Oh absolutely I think they very much cut out political content that they disagree with de Monetize de monetize they have all kinds of ways of controlling speech there and it seems to be the only one sort of you know there there are other ones. Been there for ever. I'm fifty seven. I've grown up in this town that is open but there is a shortage of bicycles here if you guys heard that their bicycles now. I haven't heard that there is a tremendous shortage of bicycles. I actually did here. I did hear that. Bicycles are going pretty hot and heavy fast off the shelves around the United States. Because I imagine people want to cut down on their spending and if they can avoid driving the car around and that's one way to do it right is that what's driving but that's part of it. I think the other part is you know. Probably the majority of them are built right there in China Good been shutdown. There's also You know we have legal legal marijuana shops here in. Oh heck they're open but you can't open a bar. It's insane bar within a hundred yards and me I'm looking at the Grey Stone Tavern and Lansing Avenue Jackson. It's been there probably. It used to be an a horse. Stable basically route landscape. I suppose and can you guess stoned degrade stoned town tavern? Oh Oh I've done it. I've finance I financed them for years time ago. Appeals Court Where THEY APPEALS COURT? Panel says the Lower Court judge got it wrong by refusing to enforce an order to shut down a oiseaux Michigan Barbara. Carl Monkey the Appeals Court. Says that let's say the refusal to follow the order? Shutdown SPARKED THIS DEMONSTRATION. We talked about with the dozens of haircuts being given by a variety of Barber's hairstylists and several citations issued at that make us attorney argued among other things that the order to pull his barber's licensing closed. His shot violated his First Amendment right to protest. The reach of the governor's executive orders and the higher court has disagreed. We'll share their opinion with you here in just a moment but let's go first to Steve. He's in Arkansas. Listening to Cape W hello. Steve Guys Oughta go ahead. I was just GonNa talk for a second about this. You know I'm sick of seeing all of my my so called friends on facebook posting hashtag breath and everybody in the country except for maybe why supremos disagree. The COP was in the wrong in Minneapolis. Chuck the victim. Yeah Yeah I mean. The video obviously shows that someone else was on the guys back. Someone else was on his legs and he didn't need to have his name his knee buried in the dues neck and You know I I can understand if you're trying to gain control of someone that might happen initially and then once you control the in that ends Yeah no no exactly. And there's there's no justification for what that officer did Now my question is all these people that are posting about up you arguing with. Nobody disagrees with you. Yeah it's pretty shocking. On this particular one considering how many egregious murders that various police have committed on video over the last two decades that I've been paying attention that this is the one hour. You're actually even seeing a number of people within the policing profession saying they went too far That's unusual yeah right. Yeah there's there's just no there's no denying it. I don't know if that's if that's why I mean this is probably there was a few years ago in South Carolina. The gentleman there was running away from the police. And they shot him several times You Guys Kiss Jog and Georgia. There's a kid taking a jog. One has some mitigating circumstances. There's been a ton of these things I mean. Look I think the point is is that here there have been some. That really are crappy. Examples of how black people in America are targeted by police? Black people there's all kinds. I'm not claiming that that's the case claiming the that's a claim. And you know there's the Michael Brown. For instance well did. He just robbed that convenience store. There's plenty of cases where it's like. Maybe not the best example FELLAS. This appears to be a pretty good example. And maybe that's why they're running with You know folks are running with. It's like finally we got that good example. You were looking for well. I can understand posting about this Steve. Because folks wanted to feel like they're heard they have an opinion about this and if they're not willing to get out in the streets and join a rabid mob of potentially violent looters Then the the posting the from the safety of their home into a facebook or twitter or something is an alternative. I think that the rich wipe people probably for you. How about we just go ahead and make the the payouts for these things that we're going. GonNa have to pay. You know that's what's going to happen. Taxpayers are GONNA have to pay over this. Why don't think about it? The police pensions instead. Might very well change. The behavior apply consequences. Right really consequences. It looks like there's going to be consequences for these guys but clearly this guy did not think there would be consequences or he wouldn't have brazen laid there with his name. I think that's a good idea and I think we should also considering consider as long as we have police who are magic special people that the law doesn't usually apply to. I think they should be required to carry their own insurance and to pay for their own liability insurance because the taxpayers. Pay For that right. Exactly what one would expect to happen. Then is that if a cop was completely irresponsible over a long period of time as many of them are losing June insurance companies would say we're not paying for this anymore and they would jack their rates so high that they could no longer practice their profession. And that would be a very good thing. Nobody should propose. Yeah I wouldn't I wouldn't be to that real quick. I wanted to let Martin L. Last time I spoke with him. I believe he was in Marion Islands. At the time we were talking about handguns and Margai digital purchase a Walter P. P. S. How are you tuning us in here tonight? I am I actually. I've never heard of this radio and so Derek from any pay. He was on your wine earlier today. Show actually the founder and CEO your which is integrated with any paid show out We are essentially a blockchain based review system to Bitcoin blockchain because see botching To valley reviews by tokenism purchase and then tying it to Derek J. called earlier and told us about the system and it seems like it's available Right now Alpha true reviews dot. Io was was it was at the site. And I think you know the more important thing really is you know I was listening to your first of all have joined the conversation. I mean. I'm definitely going to tune in this more flu conversations and really interesting You know I I want to say one thing is that you know you guys have a whole conversation about the free market and social media companies and you know. There is a big opportunity to build alternatives to these existing companies. That aren't doing things the way that we want them to I think you know the bitcoin. Blockchain specifically the claims you blockchain Allows us to build new technologies to really compete with the existing like you see technology companies I really am excited about. I think that for example You know we're doing is leveraging bitcoin blockchain database and using that to have some open distributed system to validate reviews. But I think ultimately the key upstart does just to to what you were saying. the BITCOIN. Sv blockchain has really shown some some promise in recent months There's another website called twitch that Derek J. has promoted here on free talk live. I signed up for that. It's also. Sv based and it is essentially a competitor to twitter. Except you're writing your posts you you pay a small amount like two or three cents worth of Bitcoin v and you can post permanently to the BITCOIN blockchain. There's nobody who can no not you know but but there's no one else who can go in and remove your posts so it's uncensored able effectively in the same thing's true about these reviews that people are posting through of us. Isn't that right? Connor exactly and important thing really is that you know this isn't new Wants to Toshiaki. Modo created bitcoin ten years ago. This is what we should have been working on and years ago So everyone is now talking about. Let's still decentralize platforms and compete with all these platforms. Well it's it's right there to build on on the. Bitcoin is blockchain just as a Toshiaki modal invasion ten years ago so I really think the Bitcoin blockchain allows us to to build these competitors that everyone so desperately wants and needs and therefore we don't need regulation that trump is proposing to solve the twitter problem. Because that's not going to solve the problem. I'd like to just point out to anybody out there and you guys didn't support what trump was saying just here. I'm not proposing any legislation or regulation. I'm saying that there's a real problem here and I don't know what to do about well. I agree with what Connor saying. You have to out compete these people. That's the only answer. Because if you turn to the state you're GONNA find that they're not going to solve this problem for your. They're only going to make things worse in their only GonNa destroy more freedom of speech. Well get involved. I mean let's take a look at what happened with Bitcoin. Originally this is a call about crypto currency and. I don't know what happened but if I was the conspiratorial sort I might say that. The government somehow got involved in Bitcoin to the point that they to ruin the original decor cap. The the transaction amount and made bitcoin a useless. It's the blocksize is what you're talking about right. Cap and es I've always thought that that block stream which was the company that came in brought a bunch of developers and it was in many cases as I understand it. The block stream developers who were insistent that the block size must not grow. And I've always thought that they were influenced somehow by government to damage. Bitcoin and reason is because as an IT professional once. You have a system deployed in production. I believe you. It's absolutely necessary to do whatever it takes to keep that system up and functioning and meeting customers needs and that's exactly what to. Btc People refused to do when blockchain was or when Bitcoin was at its height in what should have been our shining hour. They dropped the ball. They refuse to implement the obvious solution. And which is what caused Richard Vere to have to four hundred BC. Roger Veer have to go ahead. What do you think about earthquake? Go ahead. Well I think the important thing is is. There's been a lot of crypto currency in fighting for the past ten years and I think bitcoin has lost the battle of digital payments to register financial systems. Like pay pal and all these things but the important thing you remember. Is that the BITCOIN. We don't need to argue anymore but they carnoustie chain work is. Bitcoin is originally intended. You can build really innovative technology in our case for example. So we've now partnered with any pet and what we can do is you can go into a store you can pay with. Crypto currency. Didn't that purchase can be is on the blockchain. Though when you go to make a real review later on we can actually validate. You're not some person just astroturf reviews who actually solve this astroturf problem by balloting things onto this distribute boxing. So important thing really is that like we don't need to fight anymore. There's any blockchain that does everything that everyone wants. And if there if works right now and you can build a player. Connor blockchain and I've seen some pretty cool tools. There's for whatever reason people love their little teams. They loved their. They're fighting and they love their disagreement. So it's like all sorts of is your system open source system so we use a wallet that is open source. Is that what you're looking up? Well okay obviously. The the blockchain itself is open source. I guess the question is how difficult would it be for other sites to say? Well you can leave your review here instead. Because for example the true review site is down. How difficult with a good question. I mean that's why honestly we're not trying to be a competitor to tripadvisor. We're building technology that tripadvisor see us for example rights to the important thing to do is no one understands blockchain thing. Let's build these technologies. There actually isn't that aren't possible without a global blockchain. Let's build that technology and then allow other companies to use it. And that's how you get mass. Adoption of CRYPTO. Don't get mass adoption of currency by going and telling your friends and family. Hey we have this new monetary system and it's GonNa be the Fiat system and by the way digital payments. Really cool people. Don't care about that anymore. I tell them you got to pay five dollars to send a transaction like you do on the Bitcoin. Btc blockchain and connor great hearing from you. Thanks for sharing your tech with US tonight. I definitely appreciate what you guys doing out there. And I'm it'll be interesting to see how that grows in the future if people actually start to adopt it because it sounds pretty useful. We're out of time tonight. Don't forget elect. Nobody DOT COM. The clubhouse manager for the San Francisco giants and in my opinion baseball's clubhouse managers are the most under acknowledged and underappreciated. In sports in baseball. The clubhouse manager is a hidden gem they see the inner workings of the Team Day. In and day out they see the joy of victory and the drama of defeat they witnessed firsthand the history of the team and the game the stories they can tell will leave you shaking your head and crying with laughter day in and day out. Mike Murphy has been a constant presence with the San Francisco giants since the team moved. West in nineteen fifty eight the clubhouse at Oracle Park bears his name and in the jubilant aftermath of the teams two thousand ten World Series Victory Buster. Posey told Murph. We did it for you. We got your ring. Murph has written a book about his baseball journey. It's called from the stick to the Co. my six decades with the San Francisco giants and in this book Murphy reflects over six decades of incredible memories from getting his start as a batboy and his first meeting with his idol. Willie mays to unexpected celebrity encounters to his role as a father figure for more recent generations of giants Murph first of all in reflecting on your career and writing this book. What surprised you the most in doing it? Well just Just a prize. That the read the everybody kept asking me. Why don't you write a book about the book about yourself and everything? I never do that because I'm not much of much of a writer you know. I mean I wouldn't even know where to start to even write the book so I got all Chris Path and he of asked me. I couldn't help but a lot of a lot of things here. I would assume it's pretty difficult when you think about more than six decades the players you've been involved with and also the events that you've seen. I would assume trying to put that into a number of pages. Probably a pretty big challenge. Isn't it Murph? Oh yes I told Chris. I didn't want ride a big huge book about all this. I just want to write a small book ten chapters fourteen whatever but but not not a real hard copy but soft copy and he's been good idea. Let's just get started on it so we just started doing it one day and it just for about a year. We've been doing it. We've been meeting every day and even when the club was on the road or whatever is sometimes I have to work. You know following these sports writer so time. We had a chance to be with me so he came over. So we got this book done. Tell me a little bit about growing up in the excelsior district in San Francisco. Oh that's a good. It's a good district. What the Balboa High School James Denman junior high and of blocks away with Jerry Garcia a lot. A lot of good people came out about ball. Tell me about San Francisco in one thousand nine hundred fifty eight. It wasn't there wasn't baseball here until the giants got here but was there a big passion for the sport. Oh Yes oh you see the passion. That's got a full house and Day hoping a national last week aims of the San Francisco went to La so it was A. It's been that way ever since now. Yeah the giants first home was in. San Francisco was sealed stadium and you say every day at seals stadium smelled like a birthday party. Did you know that first game dino hits a home run put the dodgers had so you know I mean it was just one of those things are painting with just a great stadium and then we moved the candlestick for a lot of years? Then we moved to the second. We got a beautiful ballpark now at the stick at the packbell. Take me back to seal stadium for just a moment and give me a sight and sound tour. That stadium. Well two dugouts were The cost live the player of the people. And you had to come down. A Long corridor founded the DUGOUT and One day I wanted to bat poison show up for low for eighty logan so I had to the bat boy and visiting Batboy on the other side so I had to ship back and forth everything to baseball's the bubble I to go back and forth back and forth. What a day. That was their only. So they don't but it was a beautiful ballpark. It was sixteenth Bryant. And there's just a great a great place to be one of the things and looking at some of the old pictures about seal stadium. I am always amazed when I see the old stadium and we're men are sitting in the stands wearing hats. I mean that was just the trend of the day. Wasn't it Murphy? If they worked is and even the even the sports writers Cayman with tires and like Harry Jupiter always on the last one with a tie and a hat on. How did the city except the giants Accepted on pretty good. I think they did a very good. We had a good parade that day. But I wasn't unfortunately I wasn't at the parade but I was what that he into club is reading for I for opening day and And that's why I stayed. They came in for Willie mays. He's been my idol. Ever since. Yeah I was just going to ask you. Tell me about the first time you met. Mays did he say anything to you. All your Komo shook my hand. Hey Kid I hit what your name is mirth. He's Goddamn. You'll wake skinner skinner. Because we skinner all the time. I know you want said. Our friendship was never based on hero worship. It's always been based on trust and that's a strong statement with Willie. Oh yes I've never really been good to be and and I've been good to Willie and we were just. We just look for one. Another tease one. Another all the time. Yeah I know he also said to you if you you know because the clubhouse people don't get paid an awful lot but if you need a suit or shoes or anything you come see me did me. Oh yes. He did glove with you know gloves or some of the play baseball. I'll take care of you. You said. Don't ask them ballplayer. I'll just come to me and I never even asked them for having all my life. I guy you were so close to him. And you had a chance to watch his entire career in San Francisco and you've seen baseball for a long time breakdown his game. What was it that made him so? Special Murph eight ball players thought of trying to win the Ballgame. And if you knew he can teach you a steel a base steel it on you and and if today The Guy was going to break another break. A record each day on first base totally broke the record. You know what I mean. That's the way he was. He was up for himself. You just have to help to ballplayers and help everybody on the field. Did he adapt easily to the West Coast and San Francisco? I think he did yes he did. He took it. He loved it out here. He still loves it out here as you can as you can see still gotTa Home Depot out here and and assitant. So he's he's very happy here. Loves IT OUT HERE? I thought the comment from Journalists Frank. Khaneh made me laugh a little bit. He said San Francisco is the damndest town I ever saw in my life. They cheered Nikita Khrushchev. But they boo Willie mays. Why did we struggle to win over the San Francisco fans that I don't know I don't know but I guess he was? You know ball player. I guess but I wouldn't know because I wanNA get into politics or anything like that. But it just lily was just tell a blonde natural hitter runner. He can run. They can run hitting. Throw the ball you out at the plate. He gets to go balls like he couldn't with a basket catch. I guess they weren't used to that out here. Tell me the sports story about him to Frank. Sinatra's House on springs for dinner in the mid nineteenth sixty pretty late. We stayed there. Pretty Lady says kids we gotta go. I gotTA GO. I gotTA play stuff. I much smaller willing five minutes. But that's the day that we played at Palm Springs because plainy angels and he said what are you doing tonight? I Not that I just. I said I'll go find a place to eat. I said I'm not going out to dinner. Take my friend's place. Okay we go over there and I stand ca friendsgiving here. Madison Nice lived on a golf course. Jesus he must have money. You'll know when you see him. He knows about you walk and it was Frank Sinatra mine. My mouth just dropped on my legs you know I mean I said wow so. We did a dead. We stayed up until about ten thirty eleven o'clock and we went back to the hotel. Is there any one thing about that night? Earth that you'll never forget. Oh just him Bali at first we sat down to dinner and the had Dan me the bread the bread basket. He says it comes to my house. First Time has a break the bread the French bread so I broke the bread that day that night. I never knew that. So you certainly did meet an awful lot of people. Tell me about some of the other people you met Robin Williams combine the clubhouse and we'll go to Houston. I met the Georgia George H.W. Bush and I met George W Bush and a lot of other people Ronald Reagan was one of one of my best. GonNa Make Fun of my friends. I should say one of my friends. I used to take care of them and seals stadium when he's to come out when he was governor of California. Is there any one moment in mazes career that you'll ever forget Murph? Yes we traded with Mr Donahue traded for the mets. I cried my eyes out. I really did 'cause I thought. He was going to be a giant but like but then I found out that telling needed some money so to get the ball club. Gone handle that kind of he was kinda shocked and at first but they took care of. Mister Space and took care of. She gave them a contractor as soon as book. She thinks she said she told him you out. Any any amount. You want to do whatever you want. Mike Murphy is with us and we're talking about is outstanding book that I recommend to you. Mike Murphy is with us on sports byline. Usa over six decades he has been the clubhouse manager for the San Francisco giants and he has written about it. All in a wonderful book called from the stick to the cove my six decades in San Francisco with the giants. Tell everybody a little bit about the early part of your career. I you're a bad batboy. And then you worked up to being the clubhouse manager a lot of people don't know about that position as I've already called. It is a gem of a position and under appreciated. Tell everybody about the position. Well bad boy. I was at that point for you. Know started with the sales in nineteen fifty five as a batboy then when the giants came up fifty eight. I was hired by the giants through Jerry Donovan. You speed the president of sales and I've worked in A. I worked as a Batboy for a couple of years then missed. Logan needed assistance. So he asked me to be as assistant. And that's what I got started working on the clubhouse every day taking care of the ball players I under shoes make sure their uniforms a clean Everything's hung up for Ballplayer as be lost that time we did have to wash tiles. We company bring the tiles and we lost all their undies and everything make clean and kept the place nice but the ball players and took good care of them in those early days. Murph were there any special requests made by ballplayers today? Kinda laugh about when you think about them. You don't think they didn't have much. You know that we have had their own shaving gear and and the only way furniture showroom and and washed their clothes but and the only have two pairs of shoes now ballplayers today. Twenty hundred pairs of shoes and their lockers. What about today do they make any request? Pick up my laundry. Oh no no I just ask for a regular thing like if you're going by Go by Mr Kim blatantly. Tomorrow do my cleaning us. Yeah he'll do it for you. Say I got cleaner down here that I go to to Mr Kim. And he does all the cleaning for the giants. The players they put. Maybe a May twenty guys send her clothes after every road trip with we get to close and I bring it back them couple of days later and just just about God things. Get my get them out of my car. Take care of this. I can you take this to my my wife. She's outside and that's about it. What will you remember? Most murph about the giants World Series Championship seasons. Let's start with two thousand ten. But that's part of the when Mr Nukem. He was the president of giants. He he he got the trophy and I'm standing watching. The him get presented the trophy to but ceiling and then he gives me. He gave me the trophy. Says take it into boys. You deserve it. And that's when when After that Poses Murphy Got Your World Series Ring? You always wanted one. You got one now and you. Of course were honored by the fact that you've got the very first world series ring right right yes. 'cause I don't know where this up. I used to tell everybody. Oh Yeah we've been worse. We I stood up the altar. Never been married we will be lost a we lost the dodgers the phillies whatever. The will you know getting into the World Series Cup of Titan Championship just naturally champs as I said I've never get winter. It'd be a chance to get a big one. So that's when that's when it all started at the two thousand ten. What will you remember most about the two thousand twelve championship season? That was great. That was a great one and I didn't think we had a chance to win it. But we did. And thanks to Posey and a couple of other guys Wilson and and And all the rest of the guys that really did. Was there a key moment in that? Two thousand twelve season. That really kind of catapulted. The giants to the old championship picked up a couple of good ball players at the end up to out. Get us over. We like the old Yankees. Remember the the day whether used to pick up a ballplayer and get them over the Hump so they can win another world series so that time. I think we picked up somebody to helped us. When win itself we got two thousand Fourteen World Series Championship season? Oh that was A. That was a great season. That was great. I told somebody I I think I told you about the tunnel where we're GONNA win it. And he's said Yeah. We had one or two thousand fourteen. I can tell you that which we did. We got the world series the Kansas City. And that's what we wanted. And that's the that's the day when the bump kind was going to pitch the ninth inning and I I'm just standing next to able. Which are you gonNa put you in the bottom of and he looks at me and says I got another manager here manage whispering cheese because we want to the game and if it was only kid you speaking a managers I want to ask you about to in which you work closely with one about Bruce Bochy headed to the hall of fame? No doubt about that the three world series championships and everything. But you know that relationship between clubhouse manager and and baseball manager is a very special and unique one. Tell me a little bit about your relationship with Roach. I love boats. Bbut created a character and a half he comes in every day. Or if you'RE GONNA make the lineup. Well I don't want make the lane. I don't to do that. He says I I told him I wanted to manage all. He's got beat a manager. Because you don't want to catch hell from from you. Lose the game. He always seemed to stay very even keeled. And I don't know if that was by design or it was just his now. That's the way was that's why he was. He come in happy-go-lucky and he leave happy. Go lucky every day. He's used to say. Hey well I let you down Murph. We WE LOST TODAY. I know you didn't. I says say that they had a better be better buffalo. We had today that plays but we'll get him tomorrow and the other manager I wanna ask you about is Dusty Baker. Of course players got good man. Yeah Yeah that that world series against the angels must have been a very tough one for everybody in that organization. I felt bad for for dusty. That's why I was hoping to win the Big One but he never had a chance yet to win the big one also one of the great rivalries in sports and I say sports not just baseball that rivalry between the dodgers and the giants both teams coming to the West Coast in one thousand nine hundred fifty eight you've observed ever since it started here in the San Francisco Los Angeles area. What is it that makes rivalry so special? Well I guess it started when they would out here up could have been happening back there in New York and Brooklyn but it's just. It's just been a rivalry over THIRTY YEARS AND ALL YEARS. I was visiting club. Guys had good friends in the dodgers like. Sandy Colfax the snapper Don Drysdale Walter Austin and host gentleman. We only have a couple of minutes left so I want to get some quick remembrances about some of the people that you've worked with With the giants Willie mccovey stretch. Stretch is a good guy and then one day. I'm doing the shoes at the stadium and Mr Rig News. Stay late you know doing the lineup had to do something and he says matter if I got a big Ashman coming in tomorrow see you're GonNa like him. I said Oh boy so he said you get bigger early. He'll be here early so I got there earlier did did some stuff with Mr Logan he walked in. I was surprised. I even like the guy that big tall guy to come in with pat on the shoulder. A duffle bag holy cow. I was how about one marsh. Oh Oh bunny money as a good guy. Great Guy Anything particularly you remember anything particular that you remember he. He kept himself though. Hammond and Philippe a in the voyage always kept to themselves but he he was a good friend of mine on. He's still the best semi cha-cha Linda. Oh God he's got us in the world series a few times and and I liked him and his size certainly betrayed his talented did. Did you forty two shirts. It wasn't too too tall and too but he had good stuff. Great stuff and Gaylord Perry in the conversations. I've had with him over the year. I always come away smiling and laughing all Yankee Greece. He used to. He used to get me in trouble on the time you know how so the one day he yelled at me from the ball players and and and I remember. I was here when you got here. I'll be here when you're gone but I didn't need it that way but does he. He's he's sort of laughed about it and the guys all laughed about it and then only had a meeting with all the players one day and spent in and he says you know Murph told me I was here we got here and I'll be here. You'll be here when I'm gone. I'm gone he's still here. We only have forty five seconds left. But I'm just wondering Bob. Murray was the owner of the team of course and save it from going away but Your thoughts about Bob Bob. Bob Was a good good person very very honest person. He's a great guy. Larry Baer and all the rest of the giants organization people. They take care of their own. And then that way and it's going to be that way like it is today and Barry Bonds. Your thoughts and memories of the very. It was like a son. He called me pops all the time because I took care of him. Great Guy. You get a little snotty. Sometimes I had to put them in place. That's true and you're the guy to do it to. Hey I remember when you were a little kid. Remember who gave you a uniform. I know if I'm sorry at always comes by and says oh well Murph congratulations on this book. It's just an outstanding read. And I appreciate you giving time and connecting with me again because I was here in one thousand nine hundred seventy seven and the first one of the first people. Usa here's Ron Bar Jimbo. Covert joins us on sports byline and he can now put. Nfl Hall of Famer on his resume to go along with College Football Hall of Famer as well and Jimbo offensive. Tackle was drafted in the first round and played his entire eight year career with Chicago bears after an all American career at the University of Pittsburgh and he was named the NFL's nineteen eighty all decade team. Jim I've talked to a lot of players. All sports about getting voted into the respect of fame. And I've found that means different things to eat them. What did it mean to you when you heard? Well I just think when it when when you first hear about it you know. You don't ever think something like that's going to happen especially you know. I was a senior and I was on the ballot for so many years. And you know so many years. Get disappointed but just really You know just never hearing any positive news from it and then on that twenty six year I I was able to get you know like that and so I think what happens. Is You know it seems like our whole life kind of flashes in front of you and you hear that news because you think about all the people that have impacted you throughout the years. You Know Mike I. I was my wife and my parents and my brothers and sisters. My teammates from being a popular and Meal from the Conway Raiders of the Freedom bulldogs in highschool and all the way to pay and the bears. You think about your teammates you play with and how they impacted you and your career and your life and so all that kind of thing flashes in front of you about a second so it gets very emotional time so I mean is pretty special. Let's go back to the beginning. Tell me about growing up in that. Small town of Pennsylvania Conroy Pennsylvania. Well my dad was still worker. Even working ARMCO steel plant guarded there for thirty four years. My grandfather worked in the Threatening for their for forty four years and my brother My uncle somebody brother-in-law every now and my family work there. So you know. It's almost like the movie. All the right moves you know. That's Kinda where you thought you were going to go. So you know where I grew up with. You know the mill but the military or or getting a scholarship last sport you know usually football really the big thing so You know I I just you know hard working place Men People really took pride and and take care of their families and It was a great upbringing. I wouldn't trade her for the world. I'm united ten such great because I always tell people that didn't have far to look for role models because they were right down the hall from the my parents were great people and and my dad worked in the mail and then worked shift work for thirty four years and then he would come home one week a month. Take a shower and then he'd go sears and roebuck moving truck for another eight hours and they did that for twenty years so and you think about seeing things like as a Kid. You really kind of hard to work out. I know what you mean. I had a my grandparents lived in Parkersburg West Virginia and I used to visit them during the summer. So I know what that kind of upbringing is like I talking to Joe. Name at one time I said Joe. How did you end up down at Alabama? And he said my dad took me to the steel mill one day and I knew that's not where I wanted to go. And he said I ended up with bear Bryant. Yeah you know. My Dad took me in the rolling mill. One time I was probably about thirteen or fourteen years old and it was summertime. And it's about a fifty degrees in there and see those hot steel going down there Down those conveyor belts. And you're like you know you never WANNA go out but I I had the same experience. Togan you pick pit to play your college ball. What was behind that decision I grew up in. I was really always penn state fan because they were always pretty good in wasn't very good and then You know in Nineteen seventy-three chains and Tony. Dorsett went there and came in and he changed the whole program around so they got really good and quickly and and I just I just kind of gravitated towards them. I got recruited by Jimmy Johnson. He recruited me. He was defensive coordinator. And there's good salesmen and I ended up at Pitt and it was the best decision you can make so this really happy to go over your final three years at pick. You only gave up three sacks and none during your senior season. What was your approach to playing offensive tackle? Well courts 'cause I had a great line coach name named Joe More. I think he was probably in my mind. The best offensive line coach ever laid of them. And if you see the guys that he coached you know from you know myself and Russ Grimm. Mark may be afraid marks. The NASKI mean. There's a New York at the guys head coach Reuben Brown guys. Just you know excelled Jim Sweeney and the League and he's was just such a great motivator but a great technician coach. I mean he was really good at when he did and just brought the best out of you and when he did he just took great. Pride seeing you. Kinda you know achieve you know even bigger than your own expectations so I had a great coaching when I was there. And I kind of took a defensive to offense. 'cause I started play both ways on high school but I started a defense when I first got the pit and then they switched me and I kind of tried to bring on tower often side of the ball. You were drafted in the first round by the bears. What was your first impression of Mike Ditka when you met him? Well you know. He's a legend 'cause he grew up right across the river in Aliquippa from me. So you know I knew of him. Never met him before You know my first impression when I got there. The bears this one very good You know the only player you really heard about was well if they're paying but they had such a great nucleus players when I got especially on the defensive side of the ball so you have Walter. Payton is kind of you know. is a big advantage offensively and It didn't take long. I just take the Mike Ditka. Set the tone when I got in. I remember my first practice. You got in there. And he said In the money in the meeting room you said okay guys. I got good news and back said good news. I'm going to the Super Bowl. He goes is half. You guys won't be here when we do right and three years later we ended up getting the super bowl tremendous impact on us. You know it's interesting. Everybody talks about the bears particularly that eighty five bears because of their defense. But you had a quarterback Jim McMahon. You had a running back Walter Payton. You had another offensive lineman by river refrigerator. Perry that was a pretty darn good offensive team but it was kind of overshadowed. Wasn't it a little bit by the defense offense of line refrigerator defense lottery? I great the offensive line and we played pretty. Well we led the League in rushing led the League in time possession were second league in scoring like Ligand first islands and that made our defense pretty good of course. They gave us the ball back a lot but when they gave it back to us we kept it and I kept letting fresh and I think that made a big difference on our daytime makes them pretty good when they're not on the field all the time so I think our offense is really good. Offense just got overshadowed by the defense. They're a great defense. So right but so you know what's interesting about that. Eighty five team being out here in San Francisco when Bill. Walsh was the head coach of the forty niners. I certainly got the chance to see that team up close during their successes as well and they had a season which they only lost one game and they lost to the Pittsburgh steelers at home in your case and that eighty five team so dominant and you win the Super Bowl but the one game that you guys loss was on a Monday night game and I still shake my head thinking back on that game when you look back on it. What is it that you think about in that game remember? We'RE PRACTICING IN ATLANTA. That Week and Buddy Ryan whose defense accord or came came up to me from behind and I was talking to men said that he said we're GonNa Blitzer Buddy Marino and knock on but and I said you do that he's GonNa kill and You know he just felt like they were so much better than everybody else. Such great after. He's on defense that they could just You know they could just overwhelmed. That dolphins offense but you know he had a guy like Dan Marino had two receivers like duper and Clayton. It could get open on anybody and You know they just played a flawless game to beat US and But I would say I think that's the best thing that ever happened. The world's because if you know we're just kinda set us back and you know we just were on such a role than I think. We played three days before that were three shutouts and our combined scores over one hundred points. We didn't think we could get beat so I think it's a show to say this isn't GonNa be easy working with us and I think that's us back on track. I agree with you. I think sometimes as you're rolling through a season you get very comfortable with the success that you were having and so you need that readjustment. I agree with you Jimbo completely about that. I was in New Orleans to cover super bowl twenty when you guys took on the New England Patriots and. I'll never forget the workout on Saturday. Before the game on Sunday I was down on the field and I just watched you guys and there was just a vibe coming off about a confidence in that game and of course on the next day you beat the New England Patriots. Forty six to ten well. It was a key moment in that game but I think you know I think it was not really just that game. I think it was just. You're exactly right. We went in there with the attitude that we were going to dominate and win the game. And I think the Patriots because they were wildcard team. They came from behind on everyone in the games they played they. They really relied on a lot of turnovers to get him there and it was almost like they were happy to be there so it's two different minds than we. WanNa in there to dominate and show people that we were the best team professional football and And we did so. I don't think there's really a turning point. I mean we had so much confidence even when Walter fumbled early on and they kick a field goal. you know. I don't think there's Walter doesn't fumble I think we've sat him out And that would have been a tremendous superbowl. It's even if you could send somebody out like that. I always found. Jim McMahon interesting whenever I talked to him even during his career and after his career he was a neat and unique very unique type A personality. Tell me why he was so successful with that personality. I'll begin McMahon tanning. I think he just meant so much to our football team and and he just had this kind of a mate ability to lead people you know. People followed him Here's a tough guy. I think is the smartest player I've ever played with. I mean he could read defensive. I mean Mike wanted them to you know. Watch more film and do this and did add that got my cycle. What about this center? I got I mean. He had a photographic memory to remember things I mean. He was just so remarkable football player because he just had football sense. Some people have it. Some people don't and he has. I mean his I cook cues off the charts so that really helped kind of help him with some of his limited physical bill. Because it's not a really big guy. He's barely six. Maybe six one hundred pounds so kind of you know a lot of quarterback nice eat today or six five to forty so a little bit different body but mean he made up for it and Savvy. Just style is just being able to this. What you could've stayed healthy. And that was one of the things that really was doubtful. We've got about two minutes left and I'm just wondering when you think back on those times. You squared off against the giants hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor. He not did get a sack anytime you played against him. What was the approach you took and taking on somebody of that stature? Well he was such a great player. I think greater steve players that ever lived and I mean a lot of people agree with me. But there's something about that. I matched up very well with having physically and I think that was something that I took advantage of and you know we kinda ran out him a little bit as well. We didn't run away from them. So you know it wasn't a long chase down from. I think that was important and didn't get in bad situations where your third long all the time to earn long as Lawrence Taylor and a lot of different scenarios. You're GonNa have this she you know. I just think that That I messed up. Very welcome physically. I didn't. I mean the Guy Swing and inside of him letter Marshall a heck of football player too so I never had any picnics and the giants I mean it was a rough game rough stage for everybody when you think back on your career. Is there any one moment Jimbo? That's kind of engraved in your mind that you'll never forget about. Yeah I think it really. Is THAT SUPER BOWL SEASON? Not so much just the game but just the season because I think if you think about a you you get a a group of men altogether and you know. My Dad told me a long time ago. As you just put take all those individual goals for yourself gotta put them aside and you put the team first team goals. I and you're successful than usually all those individual goals scored twice and I think you saw that in that game. Everyone kind of put all those selfish goals of changing. Put them aside. We were so successful and then you had nine pro bowlers. I think it just tells you that if you can put the team I and and there's nothing better than winning a winning achievement like that as part of a team. I think that was really special time for everybody Jimbo. I want to thank you very much for coming on with us. A cheering your life and career. I always admired you as I was covering sports. Roger Theater joins us on sports byline. Usa I got to know Roger when he was the head football coach at the University of California. He also went into the National Football League as a quarterbacks coach with the colts and also the San Diego chargers that I recently read an article. The Headline Says Roger. Theater has made name as quarterback Guru and Roger. How do you feel about that? Label coaches usually don't like to have labels put on them. I'm of those guys. I don't like that label either. But what is it? What does it Mean Guru? Bill is only Guru quarterback that I know of in all years. I've coached you've been around this game for a long time. I would assume knowing you as I do that. You probably enjoy the teaching aspect of more than you did the coaching aspect. You know what I wish. I just wish I knew then what I know now. I worked with these kids. I I work with kids every every weekend during the school year in an weekends and and then when school is out I get fields all over the country so most of the time later northern California but I wish then I would know would have known what I know now because the things I take from these kids they get as much them as they get for me. Yeah when you left Pro Football. I have a quote here in front of me. You said you left because the players are running the asylum. What did you mean by? I think I think that was partially true. I think the players were trying to tell me what to do and I. I'm kind of one of those guys. I'm very possessive but I I probably needed some of that then but I don't need it right now. I think I know more about quarterback coaching than anybody in the country. Right now but I. I've learned from the players as much as run for me. Let me take you back because you were a quarterback in college at Western Michigan University. Tell me about the position when you were quarterback and let's talk about the evolution of the quarterback to the present day. Well I think when I was a quarterback I really I quarterback to Western Michigan Played Baseball and football. But and probably the Guy. That was the baseball coach. At that time Charlie Mar would have been the best football coach ever been around. But I played forgotten name roles. Lahser and I don't think I learned the quarterback things that I stayed. No now run when I was when I was at western Michigan. I think I learned how to play quarterback because other good athlete. But I really didn't learn the things I try to portray these kids right now about reading coverages and all the things that go into being a great quarterback. I I think if you're going to be a great quarterback you better be smart. You'd better be tough and you better have a great arm. Those are the three things I look for. I think are really important in a quarterback. How much more complicated was the game of football from the quarterback position today as it was when you were playing a lot more complicated today because an coverages are so different that I I don't. I don't believe this theory that when a kid goes into pro football it takes three years to learn. I Editing GonNa Take Andrew Luck for years to learn. He's learned this stuff ahead of time. Like Peyton has now. I saw paid when he was a rookie. Peyton didn't know too much when he came out of Tennessee. But he's a great quarterback but I think the game has really changed because defensive really become so much more sophisticated and I think the athletes are so much better on defense. They weren't my days when you take a look at a kid who's young and developing quarterback whether they're in high school or maybe even as just before high school and coming into the game. What is it that you look for in a quarterback? What do you see that kind of tips to you that? Hey maybe this kid's got something. Well I think first of all you WANNA look see. You've got a quick quick arm and control the football. Because if he's got that I always told kids. I can make a great high school quarterback. I make no guarantees is. They're going to be a great college quarterback or pro quarterback. But I can guarantee you. I can make him really good quarterback because if he's got a quick arm and he's very smart. I can make that get a great player. And he's tough enough to take a shot but if you'd miss lacks any one of those qualities you gotta look out so. I I look for those pretty things in a quarterback toughness smart integrate arm. How hard is it to break a kid of bad habits? Well that's why these camps and stuff that are going on today. I think are really a waste of kids. Time they go to all these camps and they pick up bad habits just like holding the ball over the top of their head which is to me is ridiculous and I think once they've got a bad habit. I the toughest thing for me to correct a kid who breaks his arm behind. I heard a guy on the radio. Talk the other day and at one of his talk show. He's talking about Philip Rivers. But he's done at his whole life so why. Change Philip as long as releases up. And he breaks his arm behind his head. But don't try to change so rivers leaving throw it away but I think it's really difficult to change. Motion Kid has learned something really bad. When they're young. You mentioned about Peyton Manning. Of course he comes from a football family. Andrew luck comes from a football family as well. John elway is. Dad was a college coach as well. Is that an advantage or is it a disadvantage? I think it's a real advantage because their parents are talking football around them all the time. I think they John Elway Jack New football Paid Manning's father new football. Obviously Oliver Luck knows football. So Andrew came in college with a good mind about the game and I think it's a real advantage to have apparent that no parents I work with are not football people so I tell a kid first thing a kid will do NATO's a football vetoes a very good look over his dad and I sorta tell the kid. Don't listen to Wadad tells you because dad doesn't know any more than than you know and it's I wouldn't tell like tell Andrew Luck that it depends on the kid it really does your. I'm going to get back to the parents in all this process in just a second but I would think that maybe one of the conflicting areas about coaching or trying to develop a kid who has a parent who has been a coach or maybe played. The position of football. Successfully quarterback position is that the coach will tell them one thing but then the kid will go back and ask her father whether they think that that's the right thing or not. Is that a conflict. The coaches have to deal with. I think it is a conflict with with coaches but as long as the kid doesn't listen to dad who doesn't understand. I think we don't give kids enough credit for us. Smart they are. They understand when dad really knows. And if they're GONNA LISTEN. To What Dad tells them. I I run into that all the time with Mike. The kids I train but I think if a father really knows what he's talking about a kid will understand right away that he knows what he's doing and he listened to his dad if he doesn't know the kid will understand that and he won't listen to his dad. I remember one of the things that Bill. Walsh told me in one of our many talks about football and particularly about the quarterback. I asked him I said what do you look for bill more than anything else? And I'm going to put this question to you as well. Roger since you work and have been so successful in training Quarterbacks he said I look for two things I look for the footwork and I look for the head I said. What do you mean by the head? He says I want to see how quickly it will look across the field and find his primary secondary and third dairy receiver. Well I I agree but I don't agree totally with that because I think if if a kid is well enough trained. He'll know the primary is. That's all that stuff going on in New England that Bill Belichick was doing and filming and I heard Marshall Faulk on. Espn watch that channel all the time. Talk about that and he said that it doesn't make a big deal to me. That makes a big deal. Tom Brady will kill you if he knows what the coverage isn't always gonNA throw the wall to before the walls ever snap if he's got to go back and read it. It's a little more difficult so I think a kid going into pro. Football gotTA have a good mind and understand that so we can react to let the defense does because football is so complicated. Roger Theater is with us on sports byline former head coach at the University of California quarterback coach in the National Football League and he now trains up to two hundred kids a year Is it just quarterbacks or other other positions involved as well Roger? Well it's pretty much running backs tight ends wide receiver. Anyone involved in the passing game. I work with and I think I think kids should understand defenses. I mean I worked at three four defense of the four three defense so they understand exactly what they're looking at. What the coverages are. All kids are trained with me. Go into football and they know what they're doing way ahead of time I don't why as a kid goes into college and he's got to be trained and most of the coaches aren't qualified to train. A kid how to read defenses one year. You had eight of the ten pack and quarterbacks it was the PAC ten you or you had Train them and I'm just wondering. Does the system make the quarterback or does the quarterback make the system? I think it's a combination. I I hate to answer that question because I think it depends on the kid if the kid has got great ability complain any system but it may take him longer understand it but most of the kids that were in me understand before they ever go to college because that's part of our training. I there's a gentleman from From Pennsylvania made these mannequins. I use these mannequins all the time for coverage guys for linebackers and now they're a little bit larger than they should be but I think they're a great tool the teacher. Kid How to read defenses and you know when I think about a kids going into college you know. They're usually looking for a program that is going to be on television. A lot has a chance to go to maybe the BCS championship and and everything is that a mistake. I mean you could get. You could be a kid. That's pretty good as a quarterback but getting the wrong system in college. No there's no question about that. I think I think a kid goes to a school. And they don't have a good quarterback coaches making a big mistake because that guy is so important to his his demeanor from what he does and pro football what. He doesn't college football what. He doesn't school football if he's got a good coach. And most of these guys don't understand what it takes to be a great quarterback coach and I think that is a real advantage if he go someplace where they've got a quarterback coach that understands how to teach him to do what he's supposed to do now when he goes into pro football. He's ready to understand that stuff. Roger Theaters with us on sport spider when we come back on the other side. Roger and I are going to talk a little bit about the state of college football at about developing programs and also a little bit about the National Football League as well and some of the successful quarterbacks and what makes them successful. But they've got to. I don't think it's fair to a kid to go to combine or even to a workout pro day and not understand what they're gonNA ask him to do. Because I think it's if you can train to do what they ask you to do. You're going to be much more efficient. Add it so I think a kid who understands the when I go down to Atlanta Georgia for six weeks. I trained guys with Chip Smith. They will go to a COMBI nail understand and they'll perform great well because they knew ahead of time. What the drills are they're going to be asked to do. And it's not fair to ask a kid to do something. He hasn't practiced you know. You've been around the game for a long time at the national football league level. They tend to put labels on players. You know what are they? Run the forty in. Can they throw the deep out pattern and everything? Can that be a mistake when it comes to the quarterback or the only missed the ones occasionally That that show that they could do something. But it really doesn't apply all the time. Well I I think I think what you just said is exactly true. I think a lot of the Times. It's like Andrew Luck. He's a good athlete. There's no question about him but the kid from Baylor You compare the two of them and I think Andrew is so far ahead of the game because of what he understands what he's learned how to throw the ball of the right guy. That's the key thing you don't have to have a great i. Don't you know at a time? It throw the ball to. I know you said about the three things toughness intelligence and mechanics. I would have thought of one other thing and I may be wrong here. Because you're the quarterback coach. What about communication well? I think that's important that all fits into this thing we're talking about. If I'm intelligent I will understand how to communicate with that quarterback coach and I can. I can do the things he wants me to do. Based on WHO? I'm looking at now if I can do that. Just like the kid very bright kid like the kid at a buffalo is mechanic stolen. Grega to me. Because he drops the ball down really winds up when he told us the ball but he understands. Because he's so smart I think Fitzpatrick's one of the first guys that ever scored perfect Wunderlich test so that that test is important to me now. It may not be their quarterbacks that played in the league. That didn't score very well on that test but their football understanding really good. They know what they're doing when I said about communication I also was thinking in terms of when you're in that huddle And I remember a story. That Randy Cross told me about Joe Montana in the Super Bowl when they were playing the Cincinnati bengals. This was the one down in Tampa Bay the second time they faced him and they were on their own ten yard line and they drove the length of the field in about a little bit. Over a minute touchdown pass to win the Super Bowl to John Taylor and Joe Montana was in the huddle and he knew the guys were up tight and everything he said. Harris Barton was throwing up through. Is Man Mask? Joe Looked up and he said who got back into that always. Hey guys. Did you see John? Candy over there on the sideline and he said it just broke the tension in the Huddle. What about that type of communication skill? I think I think that's what what goes under the category of leadership. A quarterback who has great leadership understands how to get people to perform the way he wants them reform and I. I don't use the term communication but it'd probably fits under leadership but leadership to me is really important to that. That's all goes with the understanding of the game. You're intelligent you're leader because you learn. But that's why it's important that the quarterback coach all the time talks about this to the quarterback. How should lead what his personality is? Because everybody is a little bit different. Every kid is different. Every quarterback is different. You've got to understand what pushes that kids button and nights with Joe Understood. That's why you'll was so good. I think because he understood what push randy crosses button. He knew what Randy was. Train Randy Son Brandon. I know what Randy Cross all about. I know exactly how he thinks. But that's what the quarterbacks gotta do he's got understand how a guy thinks and knowing to push button. Roger. Let's talk a little college football. And and what do you think about the state of the College Football Game Today? Well my my biggest concern right now is is is that they're all going to this. They cut copycat business now. They log on to spread like they all went to the MAS. Had Davis worked for me at CAL? They all went to the running. Shoot well because it's successful. You don't understand what made it successful. That's what bothers me. And I think coaches today are copycats. They want to do exactly what the other guy did to be successful. You GotTa do what you believe in what you understand. Is it still recruiting the name of the game? I'm I'm assuming the answer to that is yes but it's got to be a little bit more than that isn't it Roger. Well I think it. I think it's yes but I think it is more than that. I think you've gotta understand like Belichick understands what fits his program with the New England Patriots. He doesn't want any bums in his program. Now if he does he's going to get rid of them and I think that that the game has changed a great deal over the years from when the old days when he used to come to practice drunk. You don't do that anymore. Because owners are putting money up for teams and they don't want that to be part of their program. You know also when you think about College Football. And the coaches the scrutiny. That they're under now. I mean take me back to when you were the head coach at cal that was seventy eight to eighty one and and compare that if you will to where we are today well. I think the the money I was making a cal at the time was was chickenfeed. What they're making today. And I think I was probably the lowest paid coach in the conference. But it wasn't important to me. And I don't think coaches coaches put much more of a premium on nowadays. That's why guy will move from one school or pro football back to college because the salary is really good and they can take care of their families. I think that's the biggest difference in the old days. It didn't matter what you got as long as you took the job I was I. I couldn't wait to get my head job to be in charge but I think it's money money money now wasn't of those days and the other thing too with the money comes to scrutiny. Does it not? I mean of course the college football coach. I don't know how much you were paid. How did that compare to say what professor was making And nobody really cared. What the college football coach was making. But now when you see a guy making four or five million dollars like several coaches are going to get professors and people on the campus. Pretty upset isn't it? I think it does and I think what the professors were making a cow. Because when I was there I didn't even think about that but I think it does if I'm making three or four million dollars and sure they're gonNA affect the relationship. I have with that professor with the students that come in his his class. No question about it. I think you're you hit the nail right on the top of the head running that with that comment. Let's also talk about the scrutiny from the media back when you were a cow. Espn wasn't even on the air at that particular time. And now that you've got blogs and you got espn and Fox sports and all the other networks and everything. How is that factored into how tough the coaching job is today? For head coach. Well I think it's really made it much more difficult if you get if you get a colleague. Coaching job today compared to when I was a college coach. I think it's much more difficult because you're right we didn't have. Espn in those days and so consequently. They didn't know what I was doing at cal. I remember we went to that ballgame game back in New Jersey and And and sixty minutes came into this story in our academics Berkeley at the time and it was it was very skewed because they didn't understand and people never saw that show. Where we we're today. I think it would be right in front of the public all the time and I think that it makes your job that much more difficult question. Let's jump over to the national football when we talk about head coaching in the National Football League or even an assistant coach or being in a coaching organization with an NFL team. What are the dynamics that are involved there? That are different from the college level. You know what Ryan I I. I've put zero time into that sought. But I think it's probably the the amount of guys playing in the League. Coaching in the League. Right now have come into the league. Because they think that's the to be a colleague professional coach. 'cause it is we're professional. But I think the college coaches do much better job than sometimes then the professional coaches do. I've got a friend of mine who was a former head coach that won a super bowl championship and I asked him if he was going to get back into the game as a head coach again because he's in the broadcasting area right now and he smiled at me and he said you know Ron. He said they want young and they want cheap. And I'm neither one that's probably very true very true and I think I know you're talking about. I think that is very true. Yeah and the other thing too is that he said to me that this was a general managers league now referring to the National Football League is that indeed the case do you think do you think the decisions are being made mostly on rosters and by general managers. I I don't know I think it probably is is partially true because I think the money is what's really talks. It's it's become much more glamorous for much more money oriented than it was when I coach but i. I can't answer your question. I really don't know we got about a minute left here and when you think back on your career as a coach both at the NFL level and as a head coach in college football as well what. What's your favorite Memory Roger? Well I hit hit me with another question. I don't know around. Probably my my greatest memories. When I coach at Stanford Hundred John Ralston and winning the Rose Bowl two years. All when we we win that game. We'd beat Ohio State Michigan. That probably I just thinking about it on top of my head. I think that's probably the greatest deal I've ever had in coaching in all years coach and until everybody who was on that staff the assistant coaches under Austin. Well we had the Dick for meal. We had Mike White we had at Peasley. We had jacker Cincinnati because of the forty niners. We had Bob. Gamble was a great football coach and Max McCartney all guys run that staff that I coached on in in the Rose Bowl against Michigan Ohio State Stanford two years of general. Someone who rose bowls. I WanNa thank you Roger. It's good to connect again continued. Good Luck with coaching. Those quarterbacks you do a great job and I appreciate our friendship. Take Care Rodger. Thanks a lot Ron I appreciate it. Thanks Much Roger. This is America's sports talk show sports byline USA. Here's Ron Bar. Former join just on sports byline inducted into the College Football Hall of fame and deservedly so he was the head coach at his Alma Mater. The University of Tennessee for seventeen seasons and listen to this overall coaching record. One fifty two and fifty two and he won the National Championship in Nineteen Ninety eight a couple of vesey championships as well. Phil. I know that you played at the University of Tennessee. Tell me about the first time you walked onto that campus Aruna was. It was an exciting time to serve growing up in a little community. That I'm Tom and lower Middle Tennessee There's a lot of Alabama fans because of the Alabama one and being a middle Tennessee small talents. It's got some panda bill fans but the majority of all of us love and support at the University of Tennessee. And that at that time we want doing as well you know in the mid and or actually early sixties and host had come in change. The energy on campus played for a championship One Sec Championship and gone. Didn't finish number two in the country and number one in some polls so there was a lot of excitement about coming to campus and Gosh it was just everything that I thought it would be and more and and The young cost take it from the small family owned. We did a lot of things. Girls Gorgeous important. Seventeen year old. You know but just being around Tennessee athletic program. The best time of my life change my life. It was it was fabulous. You know I've done play by play at a number of universities and I really think the University of Tennessee. The location of the stadium right along the river. There's something special about it. And then of course the checkerboard end zones in everything. Tell me what it was like to run out of the tunnel into that mammoth stadium and and the fans cheering. I thought drift. Somebody reminded me. I'm at least in the top three of people but probably run through the paint the most times and it never got all. That was always exciting. I I mean almost a stadium with symbol You're right about the setting at the foot of the smokies and and and And along the river and assist we have such great fans. It was so much fun to be a part of and and you know the hall of fame is wonderful. Honor the had and family is humbled but using how as well as anybody in in a team sport you know. There's so many people that have so much to do with that Yeah Great President. Great Chance Great. The Athletic Director Dickey rebuilt Johnson was. President had the most loyal staff in the world. I mean they just they stay with me and we had a great and one of the best in modern history and then all the players that we have had something like nine guys that went on and played pro football and at a chance to coach affect our Wilson Peyton manning and kill price and some whole bunch of players. And that's how those things have have That's how it happened. Is All that comes together and they were forced to have to put together as you know the SEC is probably the best and most powerful football conference in the country but when you were back there playing tell me what that conference was like. One of the best conferences in the country. It was really difficult to win the southeastern conference. 'cause ordinarily one loss but you know with the put up because with the time they only played six fix conference games and It was it was very difficult to we played some national games with really is at the forefront of playing those non conference national are really made a difference. We had a great series. Ucla and others and those are really fun to be a part of Penn state A number of years the first night game in Tennessee was against Penn state and having a chance to be involved in against listened with nothing like the third Saturday not over Been Playing Alabama here in Tennessee. That that's that's changed some with divisional apply. I think for in some people's mind but I'm very proud of the fact that we had A. We had a good liquid against the vengeance inside because had so much respect. Ogle did you ever did. You have any. Did you have any trepidation about replacing Johnny Majors? Because of the market left on that university. They did a great job at Tennessee. And certainly it was a it was a very exciting time in life but also their miserable time in their life. Because of the way it all happen I was. I was actually headed. Arkansas The coach there and and you know they asked me to stay in and tell my album modern. Oh because they were gonNA make made that says he was here. Not that I have great respect for coach and Out Him a lot for my career. What are the pluses and minuses? Fill of taking over and being the head coach of your Alma Mater. Because I always think that if you're a coach coming in from the outside there are some pluses and minuses there because the program doesn't you know the people around the program don't know you particularly but when you've grown up in the program. Is there a lot more expectation of somebody that comes from that direction? Now I think the level that we try to play it here at Tennessee expectations regardless of who you are and if you if you perform you get this day if you don't perform you don't whether you're an alum this or not You know for my from my standpoint. It was it was it. It was a it really wasn't a job for me or my family. And and I think you could extend that for me and my coaches if as it as it became the lifestyle and therefore we you know we have great atmosphere for young people to go up in place for as a family. we were able to continue to compete at the highest level every every third year for the last eight years we've played for the SEC championship. You know. So we were competing grade level including two thousand seven That's that's a plus. Because you know I think maybe put more into it than somebody would if it was just a job. You know. Minuses THEM and And they think all of a sudden mix of it's an easy job and and there are no easy jobs in college football and they're serving his certain easy job Tennessee about the Of the difficulty we have with our instinct creating just not a lot of people. Therefore there's not just a lot players and you have to go a lot of places that we also have like on the other side. We have great facilities and great history and we can go and get a peyton manning For Come Tennessee or price prices kinds. Let me ask you about Peyton Manning. I've known him since he was two years old. Because I know Archie really well so I've seen him grow up and such an extraordinary person as well as an outstanding football player. But I'm trying to imagine what the conversation was between you and either the family or Peyton that close the deal and getting him to come to Tennessee. Well that was a unique set of circumstances. Are Tonight Mutual fans fight against each other in college Libya had some had some concerns about a son coming to Tennessee because all missing Tennessee. Turn like rivalry you know in in Hauer era and They just a fabulous job of serving all of that and I think in taking busy state and he saw facilities commitment and they're just Just hands to he'd Schuler That was runner. Up for the HEISMAN. I felt. I think he felt like he could reach all of his goals. Here and be very comfortable in a setting that we that we create and that he was gonna get coached hard in grape system and That's really why he chose to come to Tennessee. He liked the people like the system. They like the flanks and Obviously were Coming but also feel that thrilled with his career in successively. When you look back at that decision he had to make going into his senior year. What was it that automatic ultimately tipped to him coming back for a fourth year. I think it goes to the same Tehran. I think he was enjoying college. He was excited about his team. Coming back He wanted to experience that that. Another year We Love Tennessee. People it was it was A. It's it's not. It's not hokey pointing. You know he really loved being where where it was and and he's great for me. Finish most of this is ours and graduated and I. It was like having another coach. He spent a lot of time in the film room with us and and I also enjoyed himself a lot of India too. So that was a huge Slots for for them to stay and the ad another sec championship. Yeah I WANNA talk to you about ninety seven to ninety eight because you win the Sec Championship. In both those years Phil but a ninety eight special year because you win the BCS National Championship game. I one that they had. What was the catalyst of that nine hundred eighteen? That allowed you to have the success that you had but one. You can't take anything away from Patan being here and having an opportunity to feel around him and he was gone but he you know his influence is still here. But you know that. Same Ninety eight leadership out Wilson and and say Hamilton Yep Hall and so on Bryson. Those guys that were captain's They weren't GonNa let us. We had spread an unbelievable young man very talented Lot of basil went on and play. Nfl and all those kind of things but the most wonderful attitude about about being a special football minutes you could ever imagine and practice We do not have any distractions off the field. They manage themselves extremely well. We read them take one game at a time. And have some great comeback wins really good teams Syracuse. And I'm at mcnabb and Florida and they're really good teams and Arkansas. And then they WANNA thank the Games. They were supposed to have it was host and We were very deep team. Lost a great tale. Thank in Jamal. Lewis to fail back in fattest and and A lot of people's time we're talking about it being a team of yesterday and a lot of ways it might have been because They they knew how to plan and they found a way to land and it was. It was great fun because we only have a couple of minutes left Phil but in a sense. Did you guys get caught up? Meaning the program and even you as a coach of of the expectation after winning that national championship in the the great back to back years ninety seven ninety eight. The people then became you know began thinking about that as the measuring stick for Phil Fulmer and his program. I in some ways. I'm sure we all did. You know we were right back in it and ninety nine Arkansas poster outlaying. The ball game ended up center so we would have probably we would have been like back in the mix and SEC championship game. They have a chance to go play Florida state again. I two thousand and one We beat Florida at the end of the year for the Conference Championship and play. Lsu for the second time. And and unfortunately I didn't get that one we would have played Miami For the National Championship and won the conference again and four. I might have these are wrong. I think old four and then again and seven so you know we never quite got back to the The level that we were but we were we were really close and and and have some great teams in some lake then and the coast so even though it didn't get back to the national championship and I felt like we really good job in about thirty seconds. Is there a moment in your career either as a player or even as a coach? It's kind of ingrained in your mind that when you close your eyes and you think about your career and everything that it's really something that brings a smile to your face. The best thing I can say is a couple of men in my town including some coaches from him and use footballer when we were younger really made an impact on me is to out to help. A young person and I if if there's a reason I got into coaching that was and I think we have impacted a lot of people and help for live and you know they windsor. Great in the honors. A great. But you know you can lay your on the pillow at night. So good about having done that Phil I want to thank you very much. Congratulations on the honor. Being inducted into the College Football Hall of fame but I want to compliment you not only for what you accomplished on the field but also the way that you help the young man that you coached and you ran your program. It was something that was done with distinction a lot Phil Iran. Bill former with us again head coach a modern Tennessee for some seventeen seasons.
