Receivers to Target in the Late Rounds of your Dynasty Rookie Draft - burst 02

"Take the floor. I the next receiver. Which was after. Marshall at will was joss palmer from tennessee. He went to the chargers with the fourteenth pick in the third round palmer's real interesting i don't think he was on many people's Pre-draft list At least i did see him on any sleeper list. Or anything and i didn't actually do much scouting on them but He's interesting profile. He's got a lot of speed. Got decent size. A not a whole lot of opportunity but mike williams ended up leaving which i think. A lot of people are expecting with this massive contracts. You know this guy that could end up being the number two For herbert for years to come. So i don't see him overtaking keenan allen anytime soon but this guy could end up with one hundred plus targets. You know if if the things shake shake the right way so he's definitely somebody on my radar because at these spots. We're going to kind of get into this. Which you really want is somebody is going to be tied to an offense in quarterback that's going to have lost ability or you guys have You know opportunity because there's not really that much talent ahead of so i do like Palmer you know. I've seen him go all over the board as far as rookie draft. So you know. I've seen him go as far as late. Second in rookie drafts. And all the way into the fourth round so it it really is dependent the rest of your league of where you're gonna have to take him but somebody that i. I'm willing to sit on the back of my roster and and maybe wait on a year and see if he can get a role in in san diego to go forward. This is one of really interesting prospects because like you were saying how this is a guy that i did not have on my radar before the draft. I think we did a rookie draft. Or so. And i do not believe that this guy got a practice rookie draft. I believe that this guy got drafted Discussed at all in like guys like rookie. More and cal. Trask redrafted those guys. Over josh palmer but all of a sudden palmer gets drafted into third round. Comes out of blue now. He's gong to destination with the chargers. Where like you said tile is a genuine opportunity for palmer to become the number two receiver there in the long term because of the deal with mike and so there's a genuine genuine however my my concern with palmer is less about the opportunity and i think that's really what has helped him rise on a lot of draft boards and his why he's going in rookie dress. It's more of the talent and the fact that he wasn't even on my radar heading into draft is a little bit concerning. Because you want a guy that you are faithful on their talent because out of everything talent is what shines is not necessarily the opportunity being at the right place in the right time is good in the short term redraft. But if you're thinking long term you. Thinking dynasty will situations chains on a year to year basis. So do we believe that. Joss palmer in the long term will be able to be the number two receiver for the chargers. Or will they just go ahead and get just in harbor a new number two target after year or two and that's us a genuine the debate and something. I'm conflicted with because sure. I like josh palmer at the moment but i don't know if five years from now if just palmer's going to be relevant so for this reason i'm a bit conflicted unjust barmer although the guys that were drafted after joss palmer. I'm a little bit higher on those guys that i will look to target in my dynasty. Drought yeah well one thing palmer. He was at a tennessee correct. Yes yes so like i. I remember watching You know because i'm uk fan. So i remember watching tennessee. I think they were the only team in the entire country. That had worse quarterback play than kentucky last year. So you know they. I remember when we played them. What they were they they. We knocked out like three of their quarterbacks because they were so bad they were just thrown. Pick after pick. So i really do think that there might have been some talent here that maybe went under the radar from a lot of people. Because the sats weren't there but you know i think a lot of it might have been the quarterback. Play had absolutely atrocious flight that that's a great point there. That's that's concerning though just because you don't exactly know what palmer is going to be able to become. But if he ends up falling this guy that wouldn't be opposed to picking but but but as we were talking about you know we were talking about cell windows you know in no guys that i didn't care for because i don't really plan on playing palmer scenes one of the reasons why i think he's interesting. Is br regardless ever played for your your team your dicey team. I do think that there's going to be a cell window. At some point. Mike williams ends up leaving even if they do bring in another number one wide receiver to go next to keenan allen. You know somebody that's more talented the palmer. There will probably be more than likely be a weaker two week window or something at some point that people will get really excited about in. Call him a sleeper. And then you might be a turnaround. Flip them for profit

"And that's in this being your first time starting an NFL game, and you weren't even prepared for its not like Tyrod went down during practice during the week and you had a few extra days and rest to kind of get mentally prepared. He went into that game, and he has not come out yet, And he's done incredible things. If you look at Keenan Allen It might William. These guys are benefiting from Justin Herbert being under center, and this is a guy that is truly going to be a franchise quarterback and again. This is where my chief's homework comes out in me, But I would be nervous as a chief organization, understanding that we're going to have to consistently play the Chargers, and it looks like they have a quarterback that can keep them competitive in contests. So I haven't talked about this yet today, but the Eagles were in kind of Ah, there in a bit of a pickle. Carson Wentz, obviously benched for Jalen hurts and Jalen hurts is coming and played pretty incredible. Even in some losses, But what do you do with Carson Wentz? Moving forward if Jalen hurts, continues to play this way through the rest of the season. You know, this is when I wish I was an NFL player or can get in a guy's ear and really understand what's happening in that locker room, because if I look at the film between when Carson Wentz was starting quarterback this season, and then when Jalen hurts women You see guys going up and getting passes from Jalen hurts that they weren't really trying to get with Carson Lynn and it and it makes me kind of question like is what the often just as frustrated with Carson wants his performance as the public were. And as the Philadelphia Eagles fans were, because now you see what happened with Jalen hurts his throne. What? Over 300 yards and his games? He had 100 plus Russian. Ours. I think, 60 plus Rushing yards in a second game as a starter. He has completely revitalized and given a new energy to that team, And then if you look at everybody else around him, it looks as if they've gotten a new renewed spirit and energy as well. So if I'm parson winds, which we've seen reports that he's unhappy about the situation in Philadelphia. He's frustrated. He didn't want to get bent. You can be competitive and have all those feelings. But you also have to kind of swallow your pride and understand your team is winning, and they're doing better with this guy starting at the quarterback position. You have to swallow your pride and realize maybe I'm not the guy to this organization anymore. And you need to give the young buck an opportunity to go shine. Which is exactly what we've seen with Jalen hurts. Thank you so much for joining us, Kimmy, you can follow Kimmie on social Media at Kimmy. Checks K. I am m I checks ch eat X and, of course, chuck her out on NFL network Kimmy. Thank you Hope you have a very merry Christmas and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekends. Thank you. Thank you. Bye, Joyce. Yeah. So I think the jail in her situation and the eagle situation is really, really interesting. I know. A lot of people are focusing on how much Carson Wentz is being paid. But if they do end up trading Carson Lens, which someone will gladly take him. There's a lot of money. Ah, big salary cap it, But you're not paying Jalen hurts anything. So it's you know, you have Ah, slotted amount of money for a position and even if he's not there if you have a quarterback, and you'd have to pay the one that you're actually starting Him not being hit that money. Being on the books is It's really not that detrimental to their team that was Kimmy checks of NFL network. I'm Joy Taylor filling in for Jason McIntyre on Fox Sports Radio. Let's get to what's.

"Be a first down, needed seven yards, picked up bait with Kowski and Littleton combined on the tackle, But the Chargers move the sticks for the first time tonight on the past the Austin heckler When you talk about Justin Herbert in the season he's had and then you say we got Keenan Allen he got Mike Williams got awesome. It's hard to figure out why they've only got four wins when you put all that together so much weaponry on the offensive side of the ball, but they just have struggled to find ways to finish games slot left single man right first in 10 Chargers from their own 33 Herbert goes under center heckler is the single back, he'll get the toss running left side cuts it up inside the numbers and heckler likely gets back just to the line of scrimmage. Raekwon McMillan, who's getting a start tonight for the Raiders, with Nicholas Moral out with a concussion, makes the stop. No game of employees and that'll bring up second out of 10. This is a least what you want to do. If you're the Raiders is right. Keep everything in front of you given one yard. Give him two yards. Make Justin Herbert, Check the ball down. Make him be patient. With the football and see if the young kid can work the ball the distance without making a mistake. 11 35 to go in the first quarter, No score second out of 10 charges from their own 33 kalen blossoms in the ballgame out of Herbert's right, Here's the shotgun snap, Herbert back pressure coming. Little shovel pass out to the left along the hash marks and diving back towards the line of scrimmage is Balash Pressure was coming. It's actually Keenan Allen, who makes that catch Eric Harris on the stop. Keenan Allen. It's no game. That's his 100 catch of the season. Justin Herbert. Just getting rid of that one is the pocket was collapsing around him. I'm trying to figure out why Keenan Allen was back there. Get the flip. Did they asking and Alan to block on that particular.

"You're probably GONNA have to give up quite a quite a bit so it's highly unlikely that might can be moving off many fancy teams. The only reason I say that is because he did have a monster game this past week but you indicated yourself. He had a first two games that were not exactly at that level is actually at the level. A lot of other people have thought of him as to me it goes right back again to the quarterbacks quarterback but also matchups yeah but I really think a lot of it has to do with quarterbacks because last year he had that inconsistency right there when when it comes to what Fitzpatrick and one week Winston and the other now is just James from Winston and Jameis Winston needs to prove himself a jamison this week that was yeah because he was self rating until the last few seconds of that a game have Italians it just he it. This is his time to prove himself. It's either put upper shut up because at this point if he doesn't materialize as a consistent instant starter in the nfl he's going to be going the way of the journeyman this time next year. Tampa Bay will have enough of that and either we'll trade him or let him go and he'll. You just have to be one of those players. That's going to be what a backup or maybe like on the on the very bottom end of the starters going forward so I just think at this point longtime Mike Evans he saw the flashes but I think a lot of is based off of WHO's throwing it to definitely I mean James Winston has not panned out as a number one pick doc. I mean now. We're not talking about Jamarcus Russell here by any stretch of the imagination but we're we're not talking about Akili Smith or anything like that either or or what was the guy from from Kentucky. Tim Couch was at his name the there there are so many number one picks who have quarterbacks who have just been atrocious and I think he's probably better than those guys were but he certainly we're certainly not looking at a Peyton manning situation nation here though either. That's that's true you know he. He's he's a average quarterback and honestly and the grand scheme of things. If you were to rank rank the top thirty quarterbacks in football he'd be in the mid twenties so he's a starter but is he a starter next year. When you have have a good crap new rookie to company I don't know I I don't think that's I don't necessarily think that's true well staying with the wide receivers. There's someone I'm GonNa talk about. Next is an individual that I know Chris are deary on our weekend show has really spoke about in Raves and has talked about him being at at the top tier of wide receivers and I know you've mentioned him as well Keenan Allen reducing at a high level for the Los Angeles chargers on ask you right now. He's you're at or near every single individual wide receiver the stats are concerned for the season right now so I ask you is Keenan Allen playing the best wide receiver zero anyone in the NFL right now while he's number one in points by close to fifteen twenty points based on most standard scoring models so absolutely him full of rivers have great chemistry. I mean they've been together for a number of years now. So what can you say I mean the biggest knock on Keenan Allen has has always been injuries always he's very frustrating with injuries ione Keenan Allen and one of my leagues. That's my three zero team..

"So he's acting irritating and everything, but the thing is is that guy gets opened especially on third down. He's tough to jam. He gets off the line quick. There's a lot of little things that go into play in the receiver position playing. Well, so I loved our -sego Whiteside mentioned, I think that guy is he actually might be in my opinion. One of the more. Underrated guys coming out period. I don't think enough people are talking about that, dude. But again, this all comes back to love. The Keenan Allen communist Allen is a smart player. Yeah. I mean, I I don't think that he's getting a lot of love because Stanford was a will Stanford's never sexy one. But to they were. But there are pro offense fair enough are now. But, but you know, this year they weren't good either in a bad packed while south. So it was hard to kinda to justify that. And they've kind of bending QB spiral zone since Andrew luck. So you know, they've had a guy to hear their Kevin HOGAN was solid. But they haven't had a real gotta spin the ball. And they've always had those tight ends that have kind of been their main receivers, and they run the heck out of the ball. But because of Bryce loves injury in not playing super well this year, they had to toss rock around a little bit more whites. I definitely benefited. You know, there's some good game film out of him there briefly. Like, a tight end you in their spill out some really good guys. Obviously Erz heads up that class. But even dudes who are a little bit more nondescript at the time like Levin to low low his his ended up having a really. Career. Awesome hooper. He stanford. Right. I think he is Stafford head a brand of many brain thing where I was like, I'm pretty sure I don't wanna put out bad, you know, non facts. But yeah, just throw an awesome Hooper was a steel for Atlanta in his I mean, there's another one coming out this year Kate Smith. And again, he's another guy that will probably be best case scenario late day to probably closer early day three. So, you know, if you believe in that Sanford tight end system of what he could be common a year or two maybe than he he's another guy that might be worth the investment. I like them. Stanford titans. Iowa will steal the on the tight end conversation this year. But yeah, I mean Stanford's just and Sanford for a while there. I was so interested in a lot of the offense lineman. They're spitting out. And unfortunately, a lot of those guys didn't work. Out. But some of the obviously David decastro did and in his head a great career with Pittsburgh is still just playing guard at a high high level outstanding. And then you had the the more unusual fits like when New Orleans drafted Andrews Pete enters speed has been pretty good for them outside of he was abysmal in that championship game. He just had a ton of penalties..

"I mean, I would be content with that depending on where he falls, but he's not who I would want. I would want someone a step above you. You did see. I mean, look this is the second year in a row where Keenan Allen's been in the first half of the season, right? Really took it to that next level the second half, and there's a place for that. But in fantasy when your playoffs are starting around week thirteen the first half of the year matters so much more than the second half. You can't win the championship. You don't if you don't get to the playoffs. And trust me. I've tried the through the first half of the year. The real issue was touchdowns. Right. Keenan Allen had one one touch down through the first eight games. I believe that came in week one, and he was the wide receiver thirty. So I mean, I had him on that team that I thought was going to dominate that completely just imploded and and Keenan was part of that. I think there are enough weapons there where can. He be the number one. Absolutely. Can he be a number one? Yes. Will he always probably not weeks nine through fourteen? He was second the wide receiver to in that span nineteen point two fantasy points per game. So that was his. A run of basically six straight games where he was on fire. And then kinda when people pretty much when we were saying like do you give up on as being that top two on top of that the final three games he injured himself in week fifteen and came back. You didn't think he was actually going to play? So it's it's very possible that he could have just continued his very hot stretch there if he hadn't had the I think it was a hip pointer. Patches in the playoff game rear year from Philip rivers. No hunter Henry a lot of things actually went positively for kina. Now, then I think Mike Williams over the second half of the year. He's he's somebody to look at next year. They're they're going to the the kind of targets. He gets in the red zone. If he can be a high volume guy, he's going to be big Brandin cooks number thirteen on the list consistency rank nineteen nineteen percent of his games were busts fifty percent. Good twenty five percent, great Brandin cooks and Mike. And I think we're talking about this little bit last week. Eighty four twelve or four and five on one hundred seventeen targets also known as what Brooke Brandin cooks does in every single season of his career. No matter what team is on. No matter. What quarterback? He has. No matter. What offense? He's been in mind..

"It's not different persons. Everyone thinks it's like, oh that's vase like his his the brain of it McVay. That's not true. It'll there's coaches like when you hire assistant coaches from winning programs nine times out of ten like, you said, it doesn't work because of the fact that they think they're getting that coach at a park in price. That's not what it is. So you know early on this game was seven seven Keenan Allen on that touchdown pass. I soon as king looked untouched. He me juked out Stephon Gilmore, and we talked about how Gilmore was going to cover canal in like crazy that entire game in keep him from doing stuff like that. And after that touchdown keen Allen was nonexistent. Go more in patriots. Went to score thirty one points in a row. Incredible. Like after that seven seven, I'm like, okay. We're about C suite good match up. All right. They score touchdowns. Have for the chargers score. Touchdown. They didn't pager scored another one and another tree it's defensive line dominated that game to only to sex. But that doesn't sell the store because rivers was constantly. He was he was scrambling all over the place was constantly whining and complaining. Oh, yeah. He was he was p owed. And the fact is how many times did he throw that ball away a ton? He threw the ball more times outta balancing through to a player. He dropped back. Fifty one times he completed twenty five through the ball. We'd probably ten times. That's absurd though. That's a lot of times usually thirty four forty four for three forty three and a touchdown shocker that he played amazing. Slaving Michelle at a big game to elven, Gordon. Didn't do anything. I will go to Don exist nine for fifteen. That's not how you're supposed to do. Like, we call him an elite running back, I might have to revoke. I don't I don't think some people. Do he puts up big numbers yet? And I'm gonna I'm going to revoke that elite from that participation. I think everyone's going to after that. But it's really disappointment from this chargers team who had an amazing season. And if it wasn't for the chiefs being in their same division. They would have her thrown by themselves as I saw Tom Brady's post-game comments. I felt like he was speaking to you directly to me. Yeah. Because he's like everybody thinks we suck. I never said they suck. Yeah. But you're like I said they underwhelming. Ah back, and you know, and you called an a blowout win by the chargers. He was speaking directly to you. I think even said, Jeff he was like Joe, I'm sure he said, gee, I'm sure he listens. He was like chef out in California. You're an idiot. Look I'm talking Brady, and that's a little hard. He's like look. I'm Tom Brady. Don't call me an idiot. That's a little. No. I said he called you that. Yeah. But you're using he didn't actually. So he said it. I I heard him say, yeah, I doubt. I don't believe we can run the audio back later on. But he said it he was like look don't you ever taxi right away said don't you ever tell us that? We're not good that we're going to get blown out at home to Philip rivers. We're going to get blown out at home in the playoffs. Philip still believe the charters were the better team. Which is they're not the better team though. They're not they're just have absolutely not one game doesn't define it the whole season how they've been playing. But it really showed the fact that the patriots just had a better game plan. Yeah. They were ready to play in the chargers. I think came in here again, which is. Like, undeniably, incredibly important in the NFL in Anthony Lynn could not even be on Bill chicks coaching staff. That's how big the differences this guy actually waltzed into Foxborough and thought that they were going to win with the same defense that they beat Lamar Jackson with you were not playing Mark Jackson yesterday. Yeah. Not even close. But. But amazing season by the chargers. Absolutely. They had agreed season. But like I said before Russians remained for them though. Right. Do can they get over the hump we already? Well, let me ask you this. If they had the first round by the cheese were not in the division. He was a chief in the charges first round..

"Used to be the witching hour during the regular season. But now we just have one game to focus on it operation football and ESPN radio and ESPN app alongside Andrew Hawkins and field gates. I'm Randy Scott. You can get at us on Twitter at Bill Gates her field at hawk for Andrew Hawkins at. Randy Scott ESPN for me were presented by progressive insurance. Guests join us on the shell Pennzoil performance line. It is time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones. Best networks, no contracts. Here's straight talk. That was terrible. Call in the patriots chargers game. I it's almost over. But the charges look like their avatars down here. Philip rivers to Keenan Allen and double coverage Alan down with his elbow on or about the goal line is an inch and a half away from a touchdown or a touchdown. But definitely not an incomplete pass. Which was the ruling on the field lead pass. That's not where the straight talk has to begin or end. But that's just something that they are reviewing right now at Gillette stadium if it is a touchdown with the extra point could make it forty one Twenty-one. And maybe that's. Little respectable nowhere near covering are. Yeah. But what's the over under? I think this would put the I think this will put it over. But anyway, that's that's the state of play right now. We were talking about it in the break and Hauke I want to start with you. We're talking about of the four teams remaining. Let's say the saints win. Okay. Let's meet the eagles saints. Rams sorry. And we work with a couple of eagles fans. Probably just loving the fact that we're just writing eagles on even kicked off. Randy hawkin. I saw in the saints play. The Rams go on stage. Play the Rams when the saints beat the fraudulent eagles in play the Rams go. But let's say it's chalk, right? Let's say it's seeds one and two on both sides, AFC and NFC. If you were ranking rosters, and this is as sports talk radio as we get. But let's say we're because I just said is this is this patriots roster a Super Bowl roster and field said, well, I think over the last couple of years you've seen that definition sort of evolve. And it's it's it's not as iron clad angles probably broke a little bit of that down last season. So hot of these four remaining rosters which one screamed Super Bowl champion roster to you Super Bowl champion roster. Loaded question. It is so take it's hard to pick a team and not start with your quarterback. Right. Sure. So when you look at the Rams there are really really good roster. I think the most talented roster left in the playoffs but Jared Goff who has played really really. Well, he doesn't seem to get much of the credit. You think of Sean McVay as the foundation of their success this season? Whereas you look at the chiefs, you don't really think of the coaches, although he has great coaches, obviously, any Reid scheming it up. Aired enemy. Patrick Mahomes is a really good talent. Same goes with the saints. Same gums goes with New England those quarterbacks we know have have done it. So overall roster. I'd say Rams, but again about making the quarterbacks they're probably fourth. Okay. Okay. Who would be your number one quarterback? Then of that four Tom Brady. I will never I will never not. If Tom Brady is left in a playoff rank him number one. The goat. I apologize to use a raiders fan. Yeah. That started this whole thing of of Goten is that is Tom Brady. Yeah. But again, I it's not a guy will ever bet. Again. I accept your apology. I asked I posed the same question to field. I in terms of Super Bowl rosters here. Field of these four which one on paper roster buys just screams ya champion roster. The saints to me screams the saints best roster topped by best piping. But randy. So I was sort of digging into this concept off the air is that like when you get to the playoffs in the NFL because of the format which is a one game series. It is not a seven game series. Things are a little bit different than like who has the best roster. Warriors tend to rear themselves in January or whatever, you know, April may in January because they're clearly the most talented team in the NBA. I think that will probably be the case. This year as well. Right. Have a good shot in the NFL. It's not merely who has the best talent. Because the talent I think a is a little bit more comparable top to bottom and be. I think that situational football means so much more being well coached playing good situational football making the most of your opportunities like in a basketball game. It just feels like, you know, it's really hard to imagine over a seven game series for Steph curry, go ice cold. And I'm sorry to keep using the same analogy over and over. But the point is that like, you know, hey, Patrick Mahomes. Tom Brady Brady the most accomplished quarterback of all time, Patrick Mahomes. The runaway MVP this year will be like they could have a cold game even superman forgets escape. Sometimes. Right. Sure. So it's it's plausible that anything like that could happen. You know, the saints have been unbelievable at home this year, a lost two games. One of them was their first game of the season. That was against the box lost this week seventeen game when they played their starters, or at least many of them in the game was. When they are already locked up, the number one seed so things can happen. The NFL that just make it so unique and different that I think that roster ability is certainly part of it. But there's a lot more to it goes into the equation. All right. Let's get back to Gillette stadium while we were having that conversation things got a little bit closer. Another visit from our friend in steel. Hello, ian. Hey, guys. The chargers just scored again right now the score patriots forty one chargers. Twenty two Philip rivers connecting with Virgil green for a touchdown. And they went for two and rivers Keenan Allen to get the extra two points. So again, it's forty one two. They got down by the end zone after challenging an incomplete pass call. They got the ball into the red zone there. And then again, rivers Hedberg Virgil green. It's forty one twenty two. All righty. And thank you very much about seven and a half minutes to play forty one twenty two the onside kick doesn't work when did mate Abner, grow his hair out LA. I can't remember the last patriot with that flowing main. I would say Rosman Tron Ross venturo did have a long head of hair brother of the bubbas. So we had Ross and Ray bedroom. Bubba Ventura Ray who's now a special teams coach, I think somewhere in the NFL you San Francisco Republic these days in the years, San Francisco one of those two Indies destroyed. Did he go with Patricia battle? You know, roaming around the world somewhere wasn't Rosman Tron like on the transaction. He was the human transaction. Right. Like, you would get cut and resigned. Yes. Once a week oftentimes from the practice squad yesterday impressive. Coach in India. Goes in Indy. Historians actions reports longer than CBS receipt. Nailed nailed that hawks. So how you living right now. Nineteen points is your lead. If you're on that patriots sideline liner you like, man. This is just giving Bill some fuel for Bill tube tube is going to be tomorrow. He's gonna talk as if they didn't just clobber the LA chargers. And like there's no way that they win the Super Bowl if they don't clean things up because yesterday wasn't gonna do it. That's that's the message is going to preach them. You know, what he may not be wrong? It's gonna take a darn near flawless before. You honestly if they repeat their performance today against the chiefs next week. They probably went I that's that's probably can they do it back to back weeks. One at home one on the road. I do want to see one more score from the chargers just to fuel. The folks were like, well, if this call and this call a point to a couple of individual things early in this game and be like who knows who knows how the rest of the game with a you know, that's the anti anti patriots stuff that gives me life. Sometimes that was straight talk. Brought by straight talk wireless nationwide coverage on America's largest most dependable four. Four G LT networks, if anything, you know, what today is it is just validation for the Brady crowd who had to listen to this Hayes gonna he's aging and his when it goes it goes quickly, and he's not the same guy involved Bob because this looks like the guy who's now going to improve to twelve and one at home in the divisional round in his postseason career. I is Tom Brady just gets better with age fueled gates. Andrew Hawkins Randy Scott with you. I will continue to jump into the divisional round here in the National Football League playoffs. Look ahead. A little bit to the championship games are done some of that. But let's revisit some of the coaching hires this week, and some of the ones that are kind of under the radar that we haven't touched on to know Kingsbury and maybe a little bit Adam gates, but also some of the other ones in some of hawks old stomping grounds that's next. "Steel has us covered there. Hello, sir. Hey, guys. Yeah. So last time, I join you. I told you how the patriots took half of the first quarter clock off and went up seven nothing. The chargers wasting no time scoring and just over two minutes. Philip rivers hit Keenan Allen for a forty three yard touchdown pass now during the drive wide receiver. Mike Williams went down with an injury. But he did return to the game. But it's something to monitor right now height up seven seven in Foxborough. All right. Thank you. Ian, gaffe, Michalis went down with an ankle that that bent in a way was not supposed to was not dislocated. Thank goodness. But that strikes me hawk is something that he's gonna feel. He would feel throughout the day if they were playing in America's finest city back in San Diego when it was sunny and seventy five, but the fact that it's eighteen degrees that he's gonna feel that a little bit more everything hurts more in the cold. That's like the worst part about playing in the cold weather as a receiver my hands, get cold. So it's hard to feel the ball your hamstrings. Your muscles are tight. So you're not as fast quick or explosive but the worst part by far. Is getting hit when it's cold outside. It feels like you get hit by a car every single time. Oh, man. I remember playing like this is in no way comparable. Okay. The only thing and I'm going to. That's my preamble to this. But I remember playing like you play baseball in the fall. Right. If you were if you already good at it. Yep. No. But you play baseball in the fall, you get a fastball in and you're swinging even with bat and gloves. It didn't matter. You feel that up your arms and into your shoulder the rest of the day. But again, we're talking about NFL football and not like twelve year old fall ball base. Why I don't like the dig me because I didn't play fall ball. So no baseball. It's cool. It's whatever tried to put myself on level. How 'bout Keenan Allen? That was a sick. Double move wasn't even a double was it. Just a single it was it was a double double dagger cards with the dagger concept is the outside guys basically gonna run like fifteen or twenty yard in the inside receiver is going to run a through row, which is essentially similar to across the opposite pile. On that collects the safety the corner, then is tasked with plan that receiver one on one of the fifteen or twenty yard in the charges. Wasn't that concept? All the time. Obviously, the patriots watch film, wanted Stefan Gilmore first team all pro throughout and he thought he diagnosed the play Keno. Gave him a move inside. He thought oh, it's a fifteen twenty yard. And he went to jump in for the interception. Keenum puts a foot in the ground wide. Open down the sideline easy point for the chargers. I mean, he had to wait for that Keenan Allen had to wait for that football to get there. Because Philip rivers just took an extra beat to. Maybe see it recognize it and get rid of football. And let's be honest. Philip rivers. I don't know the quickest release, I know the quickest released like coming out of college. He's always sort of been a guy who's slings it almost three quarters. Maybe it's dropped down to sidearm is he's gotten a little bit here. It's coming for. It's getting real close to that hip. It's not the prettiest thing in the world. What we're saying? But it went for six there. So now the patriots just picked up a first down again Tom Brady to Julian Edelman, and we could maybe regardless of the cold. Maybe we're in for a high scoring game ABS it, man. I don't know. That's it. I don't know we had a couple of them yesterday. Well, at least one team was high scoring at Arrowhead with the chiefs. And then it was a decent combined score last night for the Cowboys a in the Rams, but before we get in into yesterday in those games. Let's get into some of the coaching hires. Some of the coaching news this week in one of them. I have to start with you. I mean because it's it's a team that's near and dear to your heart. One of your former teams. Freddie kitchens getting the job in Cleveland. How does that sit with you moving forward? It says it says good with me because he's a guy that obviously has a great report with Baker Mayfield in this league. It is hard to be a good winning football team franchise. If you do not have a very good quarterback, the Browns organization and honestly most of the football industry in world and an ecosystem feel like Baker Mayfield. Is that now Baker Mayfield? And Freddie kitchens have an incredible relationship when you go into this coaching process and the and I've been to a couple of them with the Cleveland Browns. They're they cast their net far and wide to try to get the best guy to try to figure it out this equation of winning football, which has evaded the organization for so long. The thing that Freddie, kitchens have playing in his favor is that he's already proven that a relationship with Baker. But be he's a proven winner. They've been winning games him and Greg Williams charge. So I think that helped him in from a from a business standpoint, it wouldn't have made sense to move on to somebody else. If you have a guy in the building has already proven he can win in Cleveland, which has been so hard to do. I saw a great description. I pride myself on someone who's good at like. Hey. This person looks like this like what does Freddie kitchens looks like somebody said Cleveland, Freddie, kitchen just looks like he looks like he fits the part. Like, he just he looks like someone who's, you know, bring your lunch pail to work where like he'd be wearing a Browns hoodie whether he worked for the team or not. Yes, you know, what I mean? And when you have a relationship that is that relationship kitchens in Mayfield is something that all other coaching hires are looking to create so so it's already there. It was already there in your building. Why not keep it? I will say though, I was starting to come around on the maybe not fully to the camp of. Hey, Greg Williams deserves this job. But how do you turn away from someone who was at the helm under that late season? Push that I to me, and I haven't talked to anybody obviously, no organization, but I think just some of the off season stuff made it tough for them off field off feel problems off field issues concerns around great. Williams, probably made it hard for them to make that higher. Okay. Which like like off-field now are off-field mean? We're talking bountygate. We're talking just you know, some of the issues that he's had in the past. He's had a head coaching job. So you kind of seeing what he was able to do. And again, the trend of the NFL is not just hiring a head coach who can control the team the trend is hiring a head coach who was an offensive guys you work directly with your quarterback. You are so tied together. So afraid kitchens is the guy running the offense. So they probably figured why keep Greg Williams. Let's take Freddie, king the guy him and Baker. We'll see what they do together. That's it. Let's get back to Foxborough. Chargers. Savy? We're in for fun. When man we so far three visits with steel. It's fun for us. ENC steel with the update from Gillette? Yes. Three drives and three touchdowns. The patriots. Just retake the lead fourteen to seven right now in the first quarter a seven play sixty seven yard scoring drive Sony. Michelle getting touchdown with a fourteen yard scamper with a cutback wide open lane for him all of the yardage on that drive for the patriots coming from Sony Michelle and Julian Edelman, again, fourteen seven patriots with one thirty five left in the first quarter. I did not expect Sony Michelle to have a big day. But so far he's premier wrong, man. More than forty yards and two rushing touchdowns. Ian seal with the scoring update from Gillette, it seems like okay, listen every offense in the NFL wants to be on on rhythm wants to be on time. When the patriots do it though at this stage of the season. It just looks it looks like it snatches your soul like from. You know, what I mean from the opposing defense it looks so demoralizing because I guarantee on that charger silent. Okay. We give up that long grind of a scoring drive to open things up. And then the answer right back. Quick strike anything. Maybe got the patriots on their heels and they answer with a quick drive. And then suddenly you're back chasing if you're Los Angeles. I mean, that's that's the part that makes me such a Tom Brady fan boy is because when you're at this point in the season and his poise and like you said his rhythm. These are things that they practice in the spring that I got to see up close the personal. I didn't understand at the time. But when Tom Brady is in a corner, and he's working on his foot work to go to back. Oh, this throw by himself facing a corner of a wall. And he looks like a lunatic. And I don't think to myself like man, you love this way too much. And then when we're watching this playoff game. And you say the things that you just said that the rhythm that he takes the rhythm. He commands his offense is just automatic. And that's why he put that kind of working. So that's what's so special about it, maybe glorious Stefan was right? Maybe the rhythm is going to get you. She should be the head coach of the patriot. There's a lot more beat on this meat on this on this Cleveland Browns. Hiring. Boeing here. And there's also hawks will get ready because we're going to get negative. We're gonna take a turn to negative town. And I want you to come up with the coaching higher, and it could be the rumored once right Brian Florez down with dolphins and Zack Taylor to the Bengals. But I want you to come up with your least favorite to me for mine is is my favorite one is, Freddie kitchens. Okay. And imagine saying that because you're here. I just think you you keep the continuity between the coach and the quarterback, but we'll go negative. Hawks least favorite coaching hire mine as well. And maybe by the time we circle back more points on the board at Gillette because already twenty one points and still about a minute and a half to play in the first quarter. It is divisional Sunday. Andrew Hawkins Randy Scott with you. It's operation football on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

"One of the things that he's been able to do this year is to keep that quick release telling the Miki misguided. I call them guys like James white guys like element in allow them to get into space and make place. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an awful lot of that not allowed to sit back in the pocket. Pat football tomorrow for Tom Brady, I fill in the blank for me. The patriots will once again be heading to an AFC championship game. If they blank do what if they're able to play smart football. If they're able to contain the Los Angeles passing game mainly Keenan Allen. And if Sony Michelle games over one hundred yards flipside, it I don't have to worry about going to Kansas City and bad weather next week to cover the AFC championship game. Because at the patriots do this blank at the San Diego. Chargers could come into FOX by win the game. If Philip rivers scares the hell out everybody in throws for three hundred. To seventy five yards. The patriots decide to single coverage union Allen in something happens on special teams. Whether it's a blocked punt a blocked field goal. A you know an L time fumble or they allow run back on their own. I know Keenan Allen gets a lot of pomp, and well, he showed he'd the one of the best achievers in the National Football League for the last couple of years. But Mike Williams is a bit of a playmaker. I'd keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't get behind the defense and make a touchdown grab on you as well. Yup. Jo Jody one of the other things, that's really interesting. When you talk about the chargers passing game against the patriots secondary, the patriots that are really good secondary over the course of the year, the one area that I think if I'm Philip rivers. I'm going at undrafted rookie JC Jackson it corner. He's played opposite Steph Gilmore gilmore's had a very good year. At all pro year Jackson has played very well. He's risen to decanes. But sunny is going to be as I post season game. It's gonna be interesting to see not only how the chargers try and test them, but how you response. Great great stuff. Stay one the mall. Appreciate comments inside tonight. Sounds good. Jodi, MAC care. My pleasure. Christopher price from the Boston sports journal dot com. This we talked about the to charge your wide receivers Keenan Allen ninety seven receptions that she wanted a best in all the football for almost twelve hundred yards. Eleven hundred ninety six secs touchdowns. Mike Williams dehydrate pick out of Clemson who did not do much as a rookie came back this year forty three catches six hundred sixty four yards. That's fifteen point four yards per catch. As compared to Allen's twelve point three. And Yes, Mr Williams caught it in the end zone ten times as compared to Keenan Allen six. So yes, Keenan Allen is the closer to all pro tight Brady wide receiver. But Mike LIAM's hasn't been a big play wide receiver for the charges that year something the.

"Good and until proven otherwise there, you know. Tops in the AFC, but they're not the fastest team in the world. And I know they've had a week off. And they have a chance to kind of figure out how they wanna get at at the chargers offense. We know the Bill Belichick is a master of that. That's why the bye week is so important to the charges that being said, I think there's just going to be a clear clear difference in speed between these two teams that will be evident as soon as you start to watch them on TV and to me that chargers speed and they're confident and that size to just think about the size. They have a wide receiver now jumping out to the offense. But what they have with Keenan Allen. And who's the other guy Mitchell, I'm blanking on his name. But just he's too big receivers in their fast. I three this charges squad offensively defensively. Tell me where they're week. The only thing they don't have. And it doesn't matter much now in professional sports. The only thing they don't have the experience. But I don't think they need the experience because what is more important experience talent. They got tons of that. Here's no way. England with their eleven and five the five is really weird to me at Jacksonville. Thirty one twenty loss at Detroit twenty six ten loss at Tennessee thirty four ten loss at Miami thirty four thirty-three loss at Pittsburgh seventeen ten loss. Now granted they get this game at home, but the patriots of your they could go wherever and beat up on teams any top five road losses and a lot of them in a bad way had to have this game. Yeah. In New England this week. And so again tradition because they're always there the by week all the things that favor them, but we always wait for Wednesday year. The patriots don't forget that the patriots and eagles played in the game. That allowed the most yards in NFL history ever in any game over a thousand yards. The patriots. They got done stopping people a long time ago. They just defensively. And rivers. I mean, this guy knows the clock management. He's got a running game with some receivers. Antonio gates is seventy five years old, but still open, you know, there's enough that now the one cautionary tale for the chargers. Rivers can throw a lot of picks like get some, you know, and so if they gave him into a couple of picks early and now the patriots can have the upper hand for awhile, then then you have a problematic deal but that game. I I could see New England. Finally, you know, bike the Spurs eventually like you've just eventually, you're still good. But you're not the world beater that you were previous editions. I think the other one two for I got two words for the Kansas City game. Andy reid. Okay. Three word playoffs. Andy reid. I got two more words for you clock management. Yeah. Yeah. We'll get into KC. And the chargers eighty nine touchdowns between the two QB's Nike fifty in thirty nine. We'll get to the NFC games as well. Divisional playoffs coming up this week and the best weekend in football. You're listening to the best show on the radio. That's right. I said it are the best show at this time slot on six eighty AM. "To switch the topic a little bit. Because we have. Yeah. Exactly. We we've talked a little bit about the incident, of course, that took place twenty five years ago. John Wayne Bobbitt is also a big football fan. We've been talking a little bit outside the break of the San Diego Chargers. And I know JD sharp has bought a futures bets on the chargers. And I was just saying I think the chargers can win. I think they can win this game. JD? What do you think? Yeah. Yeah. I think that every single major sports better and their mom are thinking themselves. Well, Tom Brady is not gonna lose at home. Philip rivers, Owen seventy. It's Tom Brady. The truth is the patriots aren't that good this year? Josh Gordon's out. The chargers have a very very good defense. They've getting they get hunter Henry back. This year's now offense. They have Keenan Allen Mike Williams hunter, Henry OSs neck ler. Melvin Gordon they'd like seven weapons along with a very very good offensive line. I've been saying this for about three months now. And I do have major major futures on the chargers, I've been placing nearly a thousand bucks on them since week four every single week from twenty four to one down to nine to one eight right now, it's about eight one. But as the most complete team in the NFL included kicker, Michael badgley is having an outstanding year for them at kicker. I think that they can absolutely beat the patriots at home. I like what they did on defense last game against against the ravens. They did something that no no-one F L team has done ever. I'm going to say ever. That's a long time. I get that. But they played seven DB's and four guys up front. Virtually no linebackers that the whole game they had one or two plays where they had one linebacker in the game. And they they confuse Lamar Jackson and rookie quarterback. But still they through Baltimore into no-man's-land land. They didn't know how to react to that. If they go out and do something crazy again, Bella checks, prepare we Nobel check. He's got two weeks to prepare. He's great in that scenario. Boy, I want to see the chargers win this game. I don't think it has to be crazy because Brady's arm isn't what it was good point. He's not going to be a threat on deep balls. And one thing chargers can do is they can really hinder especially with having all those corners that are playing Adrian Phillips and Derwin James y'all road safety and Desmond king the corner bio having having the ability to stop that mid range game. I think that that is that is Tom Brady's game. And and the chargers and you're playing right into the chargers strikes without also you've got Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram Bosa hits Brady coach Joey Bosa is he one of the most enjoyable players to watch watching the NFL. Oh, by the way, his his little brother. I don't say little his. Nick is coming out of Ohio State. He's going to be the number one pick in the NFL. Zona? I'm guessing they have the number one. He's very overrated. Mr. Nick is overrated. He's he's he's six four to fifty five. He didn't even try to finish his season. He had a small shoulder injury. And he said, no, I'm not going to play for the buckeyes our prepare for the draft. I don't think he's a team player. I think and I think he's undersized. I think is overrated. Four five or a. But once once he runs maybe a four seven five or four seven six combine to me. That's just he's he's not. Third round pick. We're going to see what he does Mr. Bob. What do you think about the charges? They can get it done against Mr. Brady. No. Of course. All of the. That's a good team once, but I don't think they hold up against his aggression. I still think they're a good team. One of the best hires. The they have a great head coach. Anthony, Lynn is awesome. He's hot fantastic head coach. So I I was doing a show a charger show that we do a channel eight.

"To the rich Eisen show for the TV audience, our radio audience just heard the end of our show Oba Moreau say, it's wide open wide open. "The season. But he's been a ghost for most of the year except for that one primetime game against the chiefs where Keenan Allen left, and you know, the chargers like just everything went right for him. The chargers were playing from behind the I think he's a touchdown or bus guy. Same with tyrel. We talked about Travis Benjamin a little bit at the top Keenan Allen. I think is the most obviously the most the strongest play on the chargers offense. Like attacking the middle of the field against the ravens. He did not have a big game in these teams week sixteen meeting. But that doesn't mean that it can't here. And just last week. We saw a guy who's used fairly. Similarly, Jarvis Landry have a very big game against this. Same ravens defense and also leaves some yardage on the field. He had five catches for one hundred and five yards and a touchdown should had more. And I think that Keenan Allen can kind of mimic that he runs a lot of lot. Lot of similar routes to Jarvis Landry and plays in similar areas of the field. Philip rivers finished the season in really bad form. And we've he's been known to do that. He did have the great game against Kansas City, but beyond that in in three of his final four games. He threw for two hundred twenty or fewer passing yards. He threw two interceptions in each of the final three games. That the chargers had and he did not play particularly well against Denver. And he had probably is worse game all year against this. Same ravens defense at the chargers place. So he's a little bit scary as a play. Melvin Gordon is also scary as a play. He's got a mild high ankle sprain on the same leg as he. Previously battled at MC. L injury impressed from week six on and also dealt with a hamstring injury from.

"I mean, I know the game was close Greg, and you talked about it on Wednesday show that or Tuesday that they were charges hanging in that game. And they had a shot right down to the end until that big Antonio gates turnover that led to touchdown going back the other way. But that was as thorough one sided affair is. I remember. When the score wasn't that far apart? So as a twelve point game, but felt like more than that. And I would think that this game for the chargers is a worst case scenario for them after what an amazing season they had. Well, this got me thinking like what matters more when you're looking at these matchups we keep talking about last week. But what matters more last week the last two three weeks? Let's say for the chargers or the whole season. I'm asking as a legit question. Because I don't I don't know. I don't know. What's more predictive? I like to think that the entire season matters the most if you're healthy in the chargers are healthy. I mean Keenan Allen they're healthy ish. There is healthy as they've been they have Melvin Gordon play. And they have the necklace playing. They have Keenan Allen plane. They're not missing significant players suddenly out of nowhere. Well, let me allow me to retort. No, I I'm actually asking I don't know. Maybe the last few weeks does matter more elven Gordon injured his ankle and left the game last. Week in a game in which he didn't look nearly as explosive as he did for the majority of the season. So that's an injury that to problem. Getafe Brown linebacker out for the year. They have lost their three best linebackers this year. And now they're playing the best running team of the last forty years. So I think injuries are factor for the chargers. And I think that those are the two big ones. Well, I think one of the reasons that LA cannot get out of the road way down the stretch in that game. Because score wise, it was close it. We always focus on the ravens and their ability to run the ball. And they were able to do that in chunks Mark Andrews had his is come on for Baltimore and made some big plays along with Lamar Jackson finding him. But they got to rivers big time down the stretch. They put a hurt on him. And had a couple of big sacks that ended drives. And I think it comes down to the chargers line. You cannot let that repeat itself in Baltimore. Yeah, they manhandles. I do think that the Browns showed a little something. The ravens aren't the ravens are a really good defense. And they're really tough team to game plan for they're not fast. I mean, I don't know if there's a slower safety in the league and Tony Jefferson in Iraq Weddell, and I think the Browns kinda hit him on that. And you think of what are the what are the chargers do? Well, they can run vertical. They have these receivers. Like can they give rivers enough time to throw a few bombs because you would think you'd be able to throw it over the top of them case. I would say the one thing that they coming out of that game. When you find out how much that they blitzed Cleveland and what they're probably going to try to do to rivers as well. They blitzed them twenty two times in on those blitzes force three picks and allowed a two point five passer rating the lowest in a game since twenty sixteen and the why is the formula that different with Philip rivers after what they did to less time. Right. It was just a few weeks ago. But I don't know don't you think if the game toward though, you think they played that game a lot. It turns out different that first game. I agree. It was never right. He threw an interception literally on the first right away. The game the tone of the game was right? It was right up and there and I've been killing their offense of line. And that concerns me in the ravens front with Michael Pearson. Brandon Williams, especially just their so hard to run against. And that's what's made the charges kind of special this year as they keep you off balance. Like, I don't think rivers has been that different..

Robbie Anderson Robbie, Keenan Allen And Packers discussed on Fantasy Focus Football

"All right time now for one of our favorite segments of the week. It's wide receiver cornerback matchups with my clay. But before we get into the wide receiver cornerback matchup. We're going to solicit information from our good friend. Kyle soppe on the IBM insight of the week, featuring Robbie Anderson Robbie. Anderson. Romance by Packers this week. He's gone over fifteen point six points in consecutive games. And IBM Watson gives them a twenty two point seven percent chance to do it again this weekend. But he also carries a twelve point five percent bus chance, which would mean four or fewer points. You don't like that idea? Can it be a wide receiver three or a flex play for you this weekend? Mike the Packers don't have a lot defensively, but they do have to rookie Cornerbacks. That are impressive most specifically gyro exander. No question. He has been impressive. They also have Josh Jackson in there. They can good too. Yeah. He has been he's been up and down for sure, but shot and is a guy. Yeah. No question. He's an umbrella. He played outside. So he's been in the slot as of late. So they've some talent there for sure but they're still give up a ton of fantasy production. It's kind of like you think about Pittsburgh, right? Might kill them is really good song corner. But they get destroyed by slot receivers every every single week based on matchups against linebackers and safeties things along those lines unless the Packers have been destroyed by receivers all season long third-most. Fantasy points allowed to the permettre over the past two months. Six most over the past month, you'll get Robbie interested primarily perimeter receiver. Seventy six percent of the time. He's on the outside. He'll see the rookies Alexander and Jackson throughout this game. In his Kyle just pointed to he's getting volume as of late seven plus targets during five of his past teams seventy five and a touchdown during each of his past two games. So he is bounce back after that slow start, which is good. He's I think he's a very talented player. Sam darnold found a way to get him the football. And I think he is a wide receiver three or flexes weak little risky. But again, how many times we're going to say this throughout the show if you like that thirty to fifty range of receiver. It's a lot of a lot of guys with high ceilings and low floors. Yeah. No, no doubt about that. Especially in week sixteen when the stakes are so high, right? And the reality is a lot of people playing in the championship may not be making decisions about players that are kind of flimsy in terms of outlook. Right. Like, you have studs at you're going with. But there have been plenty of injuries. There have been you know, you may feel less confident because it quarterback doesn't. Play and as a pertains to a wide receiver. There are reasons to be a bit concerned be looking for reinforcements. Maybe no del. Maybe. No, no, Josh Gordon on Sunday. We'll see about Julio Jones, for example, players like that who could be out or limited. We'll see Keenan Allen, by the way, and what start with some news here before we get into the match up. He has with the ravens on Saturday night. But to find you it sounds like things are trending in the right direction here for Keenan Allen, right? And our Adam Schefter reporting today that Keenan Allen is expected to play you know, as I had mentioned earlier in the week. This is really a pain and functionality issue with a hip pointer, not a serious structural issue. But really how well could he function as the week progressed in his house like he's turned a corner, and they're feeling very optimistic about his ability to go I still maintain that the one thing you're concerned about is. If you look back at the video of when it got hurt he goes up in the air. He lands, you know, really hard directly on that. Right. Hip. It wouldn't take as much to flare it up and cause them to have to come out. But kim. Keenan Allen is one tough guy. And so I don't expect to see it. You know, I think to me is like the risk of stepping on the football field and having that injury last week. You just take that with a grain of salt and know that that's a possibility..
