Alex Winter on how he and Keanu Reeves brought George Carlin's touching cameo to 'Bill & Ted Face the Music' (spoilers!)
"Jesse Thorn. Our guest is Alex Winter you probably know him best as bill from bill and Ted along with Keanu reeves he starred in bill and Ted's excellent adventure bill and Ted's bogus journey and the brand new movie bill and Ted face the music. Alex is also a director who's made several documentaries. His latest just came out a couple of months ago it's called show biscuits. It features interviews with former child stars about how their time working in the entertainment industry affected them. Let's get back to the conversation. There's a lot in this in this movie also about parenthood and the ties that bind to their and in particular how children kind of actualize the dreams of their parents in some ways for good and bad. I saw that theme also and show Biz kids. Your documentary that made me wonder if you saw parallel there to do you find that particularly compelling. I was raised by two artists. My parents were modern dancers. My mom had company in London, which is where I was born in my dad ultimately had a company in the Midwest. which is still going on when we moved to the states house quite young. I started out as a child actor professionally by like nine or ten I was working professionally by twelve thirteen I was in two long running probably shows back-back. Took me all the way into college so. My relationship to. My parents and to my family and the complexity of that and this idea of I wouldn't call destiny. That's the sort of of the movies that. But you know this idea of expectation and what is your life supposed to be, and of course, it's never going to be that and it shouldn't be that and and and how do the children affects the parents? How do the parents affect the children and of course now I'm a dad and so how'd now it's a triple layer cake right And Those are all those drams or fusing together and crazy ways and I had really wanted to make a film that allowed people who had experienced this firsthand meaning people that come up as child actors. I wanted them to be able to express the very nuanced layers of of that experience. Intimately I just had not seen that done and I had. you know obviously had done it myself in private, but I'd never kind of attacked at. So you that was very satisfying to be able to make and it was really odd to try to make show Biz because for the first time about ten years ago I couldn't find financing and it was exactly the concept. So it was very very strange to. Lovely. But strange to start making the film, shoot a bunch of interviews go away, make bill and Ted be dealing with you know Ted's problems with his dad our issues with our daughters live and our destiny that didn't end up the way it was supposed to in how did that impact everybody and you know, and then of course, like acting for the first time gangs I left act the acting business in after doing Dylan Ted to really Very consciously, and so acting again and I'm making a movie about child actors about parents and their children and it was it was like Oh did this all really need to happen at once was that necessary? I my Gosh. Every aspect of my entire life right now. So Yeah it was lovely and heavy Frankly yeah. Tell me about that decision to kind of I. Think you said, disappear for a minute and then come back and be doing more behind the scenes work than acting. Well. We talk about it in in show Biz kids and it's really not uncommon. It's. It's you know I had started acting I had a very, very public life from around ten years old to about twenty five on nonstop even through college. I was still acting on TV and doing commercials and TV shows. Nonstop and after bill and Tattoo amid and other film called freaked I was just psychologically. I was just worn out and I knew. That I was not I had some friends around me that were crashing hard at a couple that actually died. It was a pretty heavy scene. For Lot of us that had come up because we're all around the same age. So a lot of us were trying to transition from from you know sort of youth in the business too young adult business. We're not having the best time of it and and at the same time I gone to film school and was very very committed to my work as a writer director But it you know for me, I needed to make a conscious decision to get out of the public eye and just go live some normal life and I didn't feel like I'd really gotten to do that through pretty. Formative Adolescence and postal license and. Evan Rachel Wood speaks about this really well in the in the movie sodas will we? All everyone had the same experience I was sitting across from Diana Kerry, the hundred year old woman who was baby peggy, and she literally laid out my entire life story was completely jaw dropping. And that's what had happened to her when she had to really figure life out and she had to get away from the business and. And just be in the world and that's what I did I left. I left my acting representation and I moved and started a production company in London and I just shot commercials and wrote scripts and had a kid and live like regular Joe and. Got My head together and did some growing up and when I felt comfortable again, I started training again to act that was a while ago I just wanted to act for myself I didn't WanNA act. NAFTA, worry about it for paycheck I trained for a long time and it was just coincidentally had started kind of rumble back into life. But it was really lovely. It was a great way to come back can't owner. He's like, what am I, very, very dearest and closest friends in the world and. Everyone on that sat was family and if they weren't, they were really gracious and very happy to be there. So it was extremely sweet environment to step back into but Yeah, it was fun. But I I guess I needed the twenty five year break I I took it.
Bill & Ted Face the Music Review
"One, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, nine, we met bill s Preston and Ted Theodore Logan in the movie bill and Ted's excellent adventure they returned in bill and Ted's bogus journey in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety one, and now almost thirty years later they're back in bill and Ted's face the music Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves return as well. Bill and Ted respectively, and this time they'll need not just their triumphant man to save the world but also their daughters I'm Stephen Thompson and I'm Linda Holmes we're talking about bill and Ted face the music on this episode of Pop Culture Happy Hour from NPR here with me and Steven from his home studio is plan Weldon of NPR's arts desk. Linda and also with us from his home in Washington DC, we have JC Howard who is a producer of NPR's Ted Radio Hour and how I built this I. J. C.. Good to have you back good to have you back. So if you are all not familiar, there's not a lot setup that you need or these films except to say that Bill and Ted were introduced to us as teenage bro Friends who had a band and just wanted to have a triumphant band when they were older and eventually they got sucked into time travel and picking up different historical figures, and later we're going to try to save the world and there was. A whole story where they were going to ultimately right a great and triumphant song it's it is a surprisingly complex canonical story of which you need to know practically nothing in order to enjoy I think these films Stephen now that I have thoroughly set the table kind of what is your attachment to bill and Ted these movies. If you have one, well, I've seen bill and Ted's excellent adventure. A BUNCH OF TIMES I've seen bill and Ted's bogus journey a couple times. These are movies that have kind of existed on the wind for the last thirty years. I re watched these movies within the last five years I. Think I talked about the. What's making me happy on this show but still kind of needed to go back to be reminded of what happens in them going into this movie I mean this movie is coasting on goodwill. There is a certain amount of fan service going on here. I mean I'm not sure how many people were clamoring to revisit these characters almost thirty years later but at the same time. Something really really smart happens in this movie and you can tell before you even start watching it, and that is that it is ninety three minutes long all three of these movies are about ninety minutes long and I think they understand that that is the perfect lengthier. There is a certain amount of sequel bloat here. The first two movies are incredibly Chintzy. The stakes in the first one are no greater than maybe Ted we'll get sent to military school and you're there's like the entire fabric of space time can be ripped apart. This is a very shaggy movie. I. Think there are stretches where it sags but. I do appreciate the number of updates. You don't have the gay panic stuff that really dragged down the earlier movies are no gay slurs in this movie. This movie bothers to give its female characters a little bit more agency the women who become their wives barely have any part to play in the other movies, and here you get more of that you get their daughters who are given kind of their own subplot. So I appreciate that it's not just rattling around with these two dudes who are now middle aged, but they're taking an interest in people outside of just bill. Yeah and you do get their daughters. The structure of this one is kind of that they go on one journey through time and their daughters meanwhile who are played by Samara weaving and bridget lending pain go off and tried to get a band together for their DADS to play with on this epoch song that's supposed to save the world. So you kind of have the one journey going on the other journey going on then naturally in the third act it all comes together and I did like those two performances from the daughter's there are also some kind of new faces in this one kristen Schall plays Kelly who is The daughter of Rufus who was the George Carlin character in the original JC it feels to me like you are too young to have a moustache attachment to these movies but I have been assured that that is not the case because television. Yeah. That's exactly right. I was actually super excited to hear this movie was happening and I'm going to show my age a little bit and say that I was born pretty close to the release of the First Bill and Ted Movie of Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. So my first encounter with these guys was as as they say a most impressionable youth. And I was one of what I can only assume are millions of kids who watch bill and Ted's excellent adventure every time it ran on cable TV. The thing about the first movie is the problem that they needed to solve was very simple. Billon Tade just needed a good grade right granted the solution to that problem was a little larger than life and included doctor who like time travel home box and all but the problem itself was simple. The second movie bogus journey was certainly a little nuttier. It had killer robots and aliens and the grim reaper. Didn't feel like it hit quite the right notes for me. No Pun intended. So win a third film was confirmed. The main question I had was like, what are they going to do? Are they going to try to recreate the success of the original and go back to simple run of the mill time travel Orlean into the bizarre and crazy and from just the trailer? It was clear that they weren't going to just lean into the bizarre, but they were diving in head first. But I think what separated this one from the nineteen ninety one sequel is that it has a lot more heart. The original movie was really about the friendship of bill and Ted and saving that they didn't seem to care as much about saving the future as much as they wanted to just make sure that bill and Ted could still just be friends. So it had this kind of surprisingly earnest quality and I think that was what was missing in the second film in this third one for all of its bizarreness in all of its doubling down on death in heaven and hell, and all these kinds of weird things. It really reignites the idea that there are friendships and. Relationships here that are worth saving. Yeah I think you're absolutely right that they go back to the relationship between those two guys being the center of the story and I. Think it's really funny. One of the things that I think is featured in some of the the trailer stuff but they are both married they both have you know lovely wives that you have met before since they got them from the past and they have relationships with their wives that are completely enmeshed with their relationship with each other. So they can't conceive of having individual marriages that aren't some. Like a four person marriage I thought that stuff was sort of funny because I think one of the things that carries over like if you're going to take these guys in age them thirty years you have to either assume that at some point they became more normal, which is a weird thing to assume about bill and Ted. Or you have to assume that they are still very bill and Ted, which would mean that they are still kind of very fixated on this idea that they are a duo and they are always together and they are each other's right hand Glenn you had indicated on twitter that. You perhaps did not have the same nostalgia for these characters that perhaps I have and others may have what is your take care? All right. The ticker about to hear from me Linda Holmes is going to be a subjective it's rigorous. It's clear eyed it is on demand by the gauzy scream nostalgia because unlike all y'all I never saw these movies until this week just to prepare for the show and I didn't see him for very simple reason I didn't have to I. Mean I was a junior in college nineteen, eighty, nine I was studying marine biology. I was dating a string of profoundly unfulfilled women and. Being. On a college campus and eighty nine and not here boobs heinous strange things are afoot at the circle k just over and over and over. So I felt like I got it. And think about the time late eighties early nineties mainstream. American. Comedy was kind of stuck in this catchphrase based mode and I was like, okay. I don't need to see this while I've seen them all now and I'm here to tell you. Sure I guess that's your thing. I like the Guy Listeners of the leads I. think that's the appeal here but left only once an excellent adventure. It's a visual gag that gets tossed off. It's a Freud at a mall holding a corn dog and it's like, okay, fine. You got me I mean it's low hanging fruit, but you got. And in face the music this new film shore on Paper Samara, Weaving Kristen Schaal Holland freaking Taylor they are gunning for me they are coming. But ultimately didn't stick. It's not supposed to. That's not what it's for. It just evaporates on contact with the eyeballs and maybe that's exactly what the world needs. Right now is dumb sweep dumb but I

Opportunity. that it your private life, I've been very protective of that. Completely respect. I'm GonNa take now bring up the PRI-. No no but my question is how have you? If you have a project that's coming out, there's you know. Whatever entities are See. That is is more opportunity for them so. Yeah you also have a reputation as being a very generous guy. There are stories about you by Harley, Davidsons crews, and you know what? I love about John Wick is like. Working with. Can you imagine like I got some work with Angelica Huston S Anjelica Huston so I mean and she was amazing. It was really great to meet her and She would probably. I don't know but she was I mean 'cause yeah. We had this role and get to learn a little bit about the past of of John Wick can she plays this role, the director and? We were trying to director what about Angelica Houston so Choose contacted. I think she read the piece and then didn't really hadn't seen the series before hadn't seen the two films and then. Met in New York and then she went back and then she watched both films and she came back and she was like, yes. Okay. I know I know more about what I'm doing here. So it was really and then chats and we want you to have an accent she's like okay. So. It's really She's spectacular. Halley to Yeah Alley Berry on it and That was actually one of the that's one of the cool things that's happened over the course of time with the films that there are people who have like common in chapter two with someone who is like. You know to the director like let's go do this and you know in common committed really to John Wick action you know John Wick. Action Training is no joke for movies is this movie fighting is fake fighting, but it's fun but you have to do the judo Jujitsu have to work with the weapons you have to put the time in. Common did it and and then for chapter three when how in Halle Berry came to the director Chelsea and said, I love these pictures I want to be a part of this and we had a role and. and how he berry just. I mean, she spent. Told like over six months shit. Her characterizes to Mellon laws. and so she trained them for over six months and then did all the judo and all of the job training and and you see it on screen one sequence. Like Crazy the whole movies that way is it? Yeah it's you. Know, it's a bad ass movie which begs the question for me. What comes next for you? You have this vision. Cool projects. Oh i. Wish, it sounds fantastic. For things that are GONNA work. Do. You have a I. Don't know if that's. True. Rob. No I know there's a couple but there's a, there's a listing. Glued thing. Sometimes, they're good movies. I recently did one with Winona Ryder I. Think he's a really good destination wedding I mean Siberia I think is pretty interesting that came out. It was good. Devil's advocate. I mean That's a great flick. That's a good film. I mean if you haven't seen it a scanner darkly sure if you want some independent New York Super Sixteen cinema and could watch generation. if you are watch some wacky stuff, maybe can watch. Ally Roth knock knock. That's pretty. Yeah. I'm in. Those are a couple of. Movies checkout. You have Henry's crime on a Sunday Sunday here farming. James. Caan. Walk in the clouds. Oh. My God Anthony Quinn Tennis Inches Qi Hong. Entire. Page leave like yeah, I'm sorry. You Know I. You know I do. You know I mean I've been fortunate that I've had a chance. To. You don't always know how the film's going to turn out. and. Sometimes. You know there's some artists who? Who Act or I've heard that you don't necessarily see the films they paint a picture, but they don't need to write. And I'm not like that I like to at least see the film you know I wanNa know if what I said Yes to gone through this experience if if we have, you know if if it worked you know and if you like it so anyway so if it does, you know you wanna like you know fan the flames of your baby. which is what we're doing here. I mean I know you've been a collector fan and you sort of collaborated? Yes. Oh I I had a Harley Davidson that I wanted to personalise customize and then. I was introduced to this builder guard Hollinger. Over the course of four five years. He designed and built a motorcycle. Motorcycle was amazing amazing and I said to him that needs to be in the world. Do you want to start a motorcycle company? He's been in the motorcycle industry for a long time? And, eventually, he said Yeah, let's give it a try and so we started it in two thousand eleven. We've been selling motorcycles and for the past four years. it's called arch motorcycle and we build but I call it performance cruisers long wheelbase between. we make over two hundred of the parts building momentum. It's production motorcycle, but it's personalized. So every customer space like a fitted suit. You know and he's motorcycles. They really confident riding the great interns which for long wheelbase isn't often the case so. The ride of them is spectacular I'm and so if you get an arch, the bike is yours, no one will have your.

"Involves training and cooperation with all the stunt at the camera. and. That's also part of what makes John Wick little different is the action and in the characters and the humor. That's. And within that action that you're talking to. Go, hit refresh reload. Hydrate passionate about the moving. that action you're talking about You're you're doing at all I, mean, right you're out starts no stunts don't you? Your fight Jackson Spike Del extraordinaire stuntman extraordinary take anything away from him but you're fighting. percent of what's happening there and for me that's. It's great to be working with the director who has that who wants to do that because if you can make an immersive what is that? That means that if I can do it, I'm ki maintaining the connection with the kids and with the story, right? It's not like there's no. This suspension of disbelief is a little different. You know if you don't have to and if you're right there, right, you know listen if it's wacky crazy stuff then you're just like Oh God. What did I just see like? Well, that's exactly what I thought. The knife fight scene would break the glass knives. You get some thrones of some very closest and very important areas. Yes indeed. Very. Fun those scenes. Yeah and that's that's part of like John Reaction Sense that the director wanted to have a knife fight with a group of people that was like a snowball fight. Like just grabbing knives and then throwing at each other and then getting more no and making getting throwing knives and. John Wick Has Kevlar Soothe right. Bounce off. But yeah. So this idea of a snowball fight being a knife fight. Very Wicky. At the damn intense Nobel fight. Yeah. We shot a couple of days and You know it's really fun. It's really fun. I mean the director talks about the action being kind of. Like dance you know like there's this vision of a movement and then comes choreography and there's the troupe danced stunt people myself learning choreography. And then the cooperation to do that with the camera with the production design sets. And so there does have something that's and then you watch the performance of it. You know that knife fight is a lot of long takes like there's no cut this one section I think almost a minute long. That's just. As E.. Sees it's crazy. It's crazy but it's spun. So what's it like to do those scenes now because you and I are not in our twenties anymore? No, we're not flying over a senior and. Fifty four pushing me a little bit oh. Yeah. Oh you're not there. You're in the for loop still. Is Different to do an action scene today than it was twenty years ago in the Matrix for example, wow. Yes. Absolutely. I mean if more so. Going back that for can't say can't run. First weakening. Okay it's more about recovery. Yeah, it's I would say the biggest difference I would say recovery and The running but with with the experience though. Become you become more efficient and Hopefully. You get bad better at what you're doing. So for all of the week, I generally train about three months before we start filming working with the stunt team. The action team because there's judo little Jitsu, all the weapons manipulations in chapter three, there's A. Calling Gun Fu, another wicky and things combining so. In John Wick. In the first one was car food because I was like hitting people with cars and sheeting out of cars, and then there was gun food because I was doing. You know people coming after me to kill me I'm grabbing them with a weapon. So I'm doing judo with words you Jitsu. And then in chapter three, we wanted to open up the action. So now there's a horse food and There's a motorcycle, there's some motorcycle. Made a better term than motorcycle. Moto foods. Okay. With Ninjas. Ninja Moto food. That's it. You know what I love about this series to franchise of movies because I don't think people realize given how successful it's been. When you guys started, it was an underdog. It was not a big budget movie was now it's still not a big. But it was it wasn't. It wasn't expected to be the smash your of course. Didn't have a ton of money to work with the Hollywood standards for action movie, and it probably wasn't even that easy to get it mate just on the concept on the paper was that a challenge out of the gate. Sure definitely. Resources wise but. you know. In the first one chance to Helsinki and David Leach where the director I'd worked with both of them on the Matrix in the Matrix. Films have stunt people, and then the two of them partnered up starting action design company. Called Eighty seven eleven action design and they would do choreography and then they would be you know certain studio films would hire to do choreography or to do second unit photography. So they were starting to direct second unit when John Wick came to me from the producer Basil I wanted. That script came I had a couple of notes, a couple of drafts, and then we started look for director so I thought. Chad and David because they've been interested in. Always been working with them action and story. and. I knew that they came from the Chow Ski Film School Rights and we knew each other we'd gone through that. So I brought it to them and for the action, and then they were like, actually, we'd like to direct this and when. You know this goes to your point of what were the resources that we have was the vision that we might have and I felt like with their experience and because. Has A. Potential for different kind of action if they were the people for it. And so there was really like. All hands on deck? Let's let's go and and the material Mrs with new directors you know the material brought in. MAZING. Actors and actresses like it brought in. That were you know? Willem. Defoe in McShane. This lackey and Kooky and then they would meet the directors and be like, okay. People know what they're doing I'm want to go out. Okay. Yes. On jump into this world. And then. So regardless. And Yeah. We didn't have this or that but we had. We had the passionate love and so you know that just helps you keep going and of course, Michael Nykvist. Pick, was performing an ad Alfie Allen Anyway it was really deep winter. was really a core cast. What do you think people respond to about these movies Kiana? There are a lot of action movies out there, but you have not only big following passionate pollen. Bugler. So psyched this movie's coming out there speculating. Pictures of on horseback a few months when. They're they're into it. They're in there with the what do you think is about that character? I've heard people say that they like the The never say Die Quality John Wick that the people speak about The kind of that. It's about you know his dog being killed. So this I you know that seems to be just like, okay once you do that. Know and we're on your side. Yeah, and again I think it's the real world. Then there's this hyper other world is continental high table world and I think the films Look Good In chapter two I mean we had jotted Selah in.
"keanu" Discussed on Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist
"Another episode of the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks clicking and listening along. got a good one for you not just because he's a name you love. Movies you love. But because he's guy, you don't hear from I don't think. Depth that often it's Kiana reeves whose career launched thirty years ago. Can you believe thirty years ago bill and Ted's excellent adventure came out in nineteen eighty-nine turned him into a star. He went from there to movies like point break, of course, speed the monster hit with Sandra bullock made three, hundred, fifty, million dollars. I think unlike a thirty million dollar budget also, of course, the Matrix movies where he dodges bullets in slow motion as neo, and now he's here today to talk about the third installment in his John Wick movies. John Wick three para bellum really enjoyed sitting down with Keanu reeves. Again, a guy I hadn't met before a guy I don't think you see all over the place on TV. And he was happy to sit down and talk about his career You'll hear as we dren towards some personal stuff, not his favorite subject area, not talking about celebrity stuff and DMZ stuff but just even asking about his reputation as a super generous guy, there are these legendary Hollywood stories of him renegotiating his matrix deals. So the crew could get more money less for him. He bought Harley. Davidsons reportedly for his stunt man and all his movies. A Super Generous Guy a guy about whom there's some folklore I don't know if you saw in March when he you know the plane, he was on made an emergency landing and he landed with all the people on the plane and he arranged with the airline to get a van to drive everybody to where they were supposed to fly. All these sort of sightings of Keanu reeves in the wild. So we try to touch on some of that he gets into it but what's most interesting to me is about his career this long range of thirty years and we talk about it all including John Wick Three Para bellum right now with Keanu reeves on the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks for doing this. Thank you for. The invitation and the opportunity to converse. Absolutely. We've already been conversing quite a bit. We'll pick up where we left off but I wanNA talk I obviously about the movie. Congratulations. Thank you on John Wick Chapter. Three. For people who may have not seen the first two yet or people were excited now to see that there, where do we pick up John? Where is he in the store? My? Gosh. Well, I mean for if you've seen the film where you haven't seen the film, I would probably slightly different. Yeah I'll do the I don't know how people who've seen the first. Chapter to John, Wick had killed a member of A. Called a guild that's in this other world. You have the real world and then you have these other John. Wick. World rises the world of the Kontinental which is the hotel. And you find out. Through the series at these hotels exist all around the world. And then there's this guilt or this. Thing above the continental called the high table. So I killed a member of the high table on continental grounds meaning the hotel. which is breaking the rules and so winston fantastic and McShane who runs the New York. City continental at the end of John. Wick to gave me an hour. But he made me excommunicate. Oh right and there's an open contract soak in an hour I can have no help from the system of the KONTINENTAL and. In, an hour the assassins can come after John Wick. At the end of Chapter Two, we saw John Wick running out of central park for his life right chapter three slam cut. It's a little later tonight it's raining and John Wick is still on the run. The how's he going to survive? This is this should have been the trailer right here by the way that was incredible. I mean you're new. I'm ready. To cash lost John Wick Action Yeah. How do you describe John Wick like who is he and why was he an interesting character when you first read about Yeah it's the character and the world that was created by the right Oh Derek Kolstad this reality and other reality. In John, Wick John's partner life partner, love of his life passes away. And she gives him a dog. To kind of keep a connection, I think to the heart and soul to keep him grounded. To have a friend because she knows but the audience doesn't know that I was an assassin, a mythical assassin and five years ago I did the impossible task to get out. But one day as the director likes to save fate would have it. Running this I'm just getting gas Mustang with the dog and getting dog food and this kid pulls up anyway long story short him and his. Friends come. To, the House and they kill the dog and beat me up and then it turns out that the kid was connected to a Russian crime Lord Vigo who I had worked with and helped with the impossible task and then John Wick goes from the grieving husband. Man To. The. Bobby Yego. The mythical assassin who? Wants to get some. Revenge. All this to say. Consequences right. So this man who is grieving and trying to live his life, this event, this fate, the something happened, and this other part of John, wick part about dog with that net was it was trying to ground him and once that was taken from. This other person? This other thing? Kind of light and dark side of ourselves, and he goes to this revenge place. Then that has consequences which chapter two he was like I just want peace they take his car he wants his car back is leave me alone. I. Just WanNa Greek. But in the world of John Wick, there's high table. There's a thing called a marker, and if your market means I you, I did something for you so now I HAVE There's this character who ends up being the person that I'd kill. As a kind of vange. And this is the long version housing. Story. Rate Let's see the movie. Walk through the. End Up, doing. It's this journey with themes of action consequence. A. Little fate and destiny I mean this series is has a lot of honor in it. There's a lot of rules, consequences breaking rules obeying. This idea built fealty to the to the high table And all of these characters that inhabit this world and then you have John Wick action. And Humor. So you ask me, we'll. How do I explain you know this I think we're following journey of a man who's grieving. And who is in a battle to to live WHO's trying to survive with the consequences of his past and the actions that he's doing. I think he wants to try to kind of become free. But it keeps coming after him and. Yeah. So that's what we're. Doing amazing summer then there's humor. Humor sure and John Wick Action John Wick action this kind of longer takes. Really the director Chad's to Helsinki I call him visionary wants to make the action in the mercer experience wants to almost present it like. Like theater like a concert like it's literally happening in front of you. That.

Who is the woman holding hands with Keanu Reeves on the red carpet? What we know about Alexandra Grant
"In New Reeves it has been nearly three decades since he has had a public a girl friend until now well it's been a madly he brought his his new girlfriend Alexandra grant to a red carpet event their first public appearance and J. sorry ladies but he he appears to be really smitten rant Alexander Graham is an artist whose work is in a number of museums around the world but that they've collaborated on projects before she contributed illustrations for Kiana house the first book he's an author is well apparently it's another Lambretta happiness and they run a publishing company together and add their
"keanu" Discussed on We're Talkin' Movies
"There are some of the characters that they go back and bring billy the Kid Napoleon Napoleon Socrates Joan of arc Genghis Khan he they bring them all back and they're on the stage and they do this big production well. I know I've commented that sometimes I. I don't watch certain movies. I mean time restraints. I mean I can't watch everything. Well maybe if I didn't do anything else I could probably watch everything but gee you're teasing me here with little history. Maybe I I shoot back. It's it's kind of like the way back machine exactly I think Abraham Lincoln is one of the guys to the film takes place in the following times twenty six eight. Obviously the future may nineteen eighty eight. Which is what the the movie is based in? I guess you'd say eighteen o five eighteen seventy nine four hundred ten BC the fifteenth century. Nine Hundred Ninety one eighteen ten fourteen twenty nine twelve nine eighteen sixty eighty three and one million B C. When you're there was a film one main be is that the one today see Raquel Welch? I mean you know. This is kind of interesting. The one thing I noticed about this in you know the other film dumb and dumber which has nothing to do with Canada. But it's interesting because some people could get into to this and get typecast and not treating seriously after being in one of those and you're trying to cross into dramatic and what I'm thinking about is the actor Jeff Daniels who is a very serious actor. He's been in a variety of films of loved the guy and of course he's been appearing in Broadway on the play to kill a mockingbird and yet he loved loved playing in dumb and dumber and the very serious actor and you think Oh my God if that's on your filmography and people go back and look look at that. How could they treat you seriously? And you worry about being typecast and I think maybe some people didn't take very seriously after the fact perhaps perhaps I dunno usually stars will stay away from that you know absolutely especially a fair goofball in the past but he he doesn't he embraces it because they're doing another film it as we speak here. I have a couple trivia things on on bill and Ted the screenwriters discovered both Alex Winter and Kiana. honoree they were. They were good friends on already when they were messing around in queue outside of McDonald's in front of them so the screenwriters are sitting there. They wrote this movie. They're trying to find fine actors and they're just they're in a line and McDonalds the two guys and Kanye Reeves in winter in front of them and their does goofing around messing around around. That's what we want. We never know where you're going to find some of this being being discovered or the source of inspiration to. Here's some stuff I know. Dialogue is is important and we talked about that before there are seventy uses of dude throughout the movie are- as well as thirty uses of the word excellent so somebody sat around and counted on. Hey Dude Dude. Excellent one other thing. Alex Winter Claims that after he filmed this movie he received positive live letters from history teachers for encouraging children to learn about history and the figures and then received negative mail from English teachers for affecting affecting the way students speak now. That's it the battle between the history teachers in the English teachers continues the next bill and Ted Movie Bill. and Ted's bogus journey. I won't go into all the stuff in this one but it did cost Twenty million to make this one and it grossed thirty eight million. In this movie movie. There was a newer character that was involved in as the grim reaper. William Sadler. It's a good movie as well. I mean it's good is in you. Laugh a lot and then coming in the two thousand twenty like I said they're filming right now. Bill and Ted face the music From a different director director Dean Parse it. I guess it is the Keanu reeves will be playing playing again. Ted Theodore Logan Alex winner will play bill s Preston. ESQUIRE and William Sadler will return his grim reaper. Unfortunately George Carlin Carlin has passed away since so. I'm not sure how they're gonNA handle his character. I'm sure they will says once. Told Fade Save the world. During a time traveling adventure you're too it'd be rockers from Sane Demus California find themselves as middle aged. Dad's still trying to creek out a hit song and fulfill their destiny. So I can't imagine what that's going to be didn't An Reeve or hasn't he'd done Didn't have a rock band or something back in his past. uh-huh darkstars something. I don't know I remember might have been about seeing about it or something so so let's not exactly a unknown tone stretch for him. He played bass in the band. Becky he's been in a couple of bands but we should say something about where he's from. He is Canadian. He was born in Canada he he in fact He. He lives in Los Angeles but he grew up in Toronto. I believe he was a hockey goalie. Who's in several sports? His name came from his uncle uncle. James Henry Keanu reeves is a Wyan phrase means what has great great uncle. KEOUGH ALU EH. Whose name means the soft breeze raising in Hawaii Car Gal who I wouldn't even I wouldn't even go there? It took took me along with Lily. Luke Luke never mind. He managed a pasta shop in Toronto and he was under. That was pretty neat. Yeah he's he's fairly he. He dropped out of high school school. Become an actor which his mother wasn't too pleased with that which I would understand. Well he moved on of course and he made a string of films and we talked about speed and speed for those of you who have not seen that movie he was a cop. There's a bomb on a bus that if it drops below. Oh a certain speed. I think it was what fifty five or fifty and Sandra bullock is. The bus drivers shot by someone on the bus. Incidentally incidentally accidentally and she's taken from group of passengers and she starts driving the bus and the whole thing is how do they save the bus and and so on and so forth so that not only eat some attention. I think that film probably made a lot of money. I don't have this statistics but it was a very popular film. One one of the first times I became aware of Sandra bullock and they were great together. They had good chemistry in that and I think one of the things I always kind of heard or until I actually. We saw him on film. Some people think thought he was kind of wooden but before that he was also in Bram Stoker's Dracula which Gary Oldman played prince of darkness in that that one. And it's pretty elaborate. Well done I'M A BIG DRACULA FAN and particularly the original book and he tried to follow the book pretty much and he played Jonathan Harker which is a critical. Oh character in that. There's a couple of I'm going to talk about. Let me just throw out a couple that I'd I'd light. I think you've got some back story on some Trivia regarding thing is. I actually like the devil's advocate. Where he's this hotshot lawyer from the south? He's scouted by this law. Firm in New York turns out that the guy's his name is John Milton and it's Al Pacino who basically is the devil himself and he gets sucked into this law firm and his wife is Charlie's Feron and I may be incorrect but that's one of the first for one of the first times. I remember seeing her on the screen. It's pretty early in her career. But I thought I thought thought the movie was pretty cool. I don't know that it was critically acclaimed. He did something to get Mr Pacino on that film. Did he not eighty as a couple of things first in order for Pacino to be in the film film he took a two million dollar pay cut. It's pretty significant. But he did that once before in another movie. Yeah I think it's actually after I think it's actually AL replacements. Would Gene Hackman yeah man when he he deferred ninety percent of their salary to get gene Hackman onboard. The other thing is is they were taping speed too at the same time that he taped devil's advocate. They were anticipating that he was supposed to be in speed too but he actually turned it down for a few reasons one. He wanted to do this movie. That he's dead Devil's apple's advocate but also he didn't like the script and he just didn't WanNa do they type of action film at that moment. In time he's still best friends with Sandra bullock. It just another another tidbit that he was taken that movie while they were taken speed to Dennis Hopper was the bad guy and Jeff Daniels was also so speaking of Jeff Daniels. Here we go again. These same people keep popping up. He was in speed as well. As a bomb expert. I talked about directors he worked with COPPOLA WOAH IN DRACULA and the guy who directed devil's advocate Taylor. WHO's a pretty good director officer and a gentleman? He's also the husband an of Helen Mirren who we've mentioned before and in fact when we discussed Hobson Shaw and our show a few times ago. After we saw that movie she was in that and love her. But shortly after devil's advocate he moved into his second film that set in motion a series. That really put him really on the map as a pretty major force and those are the films that you have have watched. I believe you're talking about the Matrix at what I'm talking about will teeny movie. He did bent while back. A few people saw that I think directed by the Chomsky Brother House without skis. I guess the Hausky brothers Kiana start is neo. Laurence Fishburne was is in there as Morpheus Carrie Anne Moss play trilby and Hugo weaving played agent Smith. Yeah I'd say it did well. It was budgeted. Sixty three million grossed I four hundred and sixty three million so I mean that was pretty darn good. That was the first one the first one. So basically here's the little synopsis on it. So the movie follows software programmer and Hacker Neo. Who is played by calories? Lawrence Laurence Fishburne plays morpheus and Morpheus But leaves with all of his heart and soul everything in them. That neo is the quote one prophesized person who will end this big war between gene man and machine the human human beings create. Ai Artificial intelligence well after a while the artificial intelligence takes over starts going after humans and big war happens and where they're at right now. A I created a human battery bank basically each human is actually grown. They're put into these pods and the Matrix of describe with the way. That Laurence Fishburne doesn't in the in the movie. The Matrix is a computer. Generated dreamworld built to keep humans under control in order to change. Change a human being into a battery so basically they're connected to the Matrix through their head because they think that's reality but really in reality during these little Oh pods and they're creating energy and there's millions and millions and millions of rows and rows and tall is can be just millions and it's all linked together all batteries so they find neo the get him to disconnect from this matrix which is pretty crazy he wakes up in a pot of liquid hoses connector. All over him. He's he's hairless he's never seen light so they rescue him. It was pretty funny because his training they do for training is they. They basically you're hooked up to the computer and download the training to for instance. There's a part in the movie. Where Trinity and NEO says? Do you know how to fly helicopter. She said I don't but I want a second. And she calls and says hey tank Anita program to fly Blah Blah Blah then he downloads to her head and all of a sudden okay. Let's go now. I know how to fly the plane so they do the for everything. They did that to train Kiana. He every single different type of martial arts and use them in gun and driving a car. All that kind of stuff was just downloaded into his head in boom right then and there. He's able to do it. Movies are all interconnected. They're basically it goes from him that no one you know what reality is and that type of thing all the way to the last movie. Where are they finally at the very end? There's peace between the two and that's as far as it goes really but.

"We'll see it'll be awesome to keep them going going. I mean again. You know my consensus when it's like these franchises that you love yeah i i know i kind of feed the steak of it because i can't get enough. I i agree with these people whining about stalwarts. I'm like shut the fuck up totally. Would you rather just have no tolerance for another twenty years. I mean i'll get exactly and there's always something to enjoy okay. We went through the less. That was pretty fun. I'm what would you say. I'll probably similar similar but would you say your top five lake. Doc keanu movies are because for me. It's basically those classics. Com would be like for the another one would be nice to again. I mean look who knows he might surprise us. Maybe one day he'll do a serious drama and get some oscar. Buzz knows i am a i just. I don't need that. There were actors like tom cruise robert downey junior at brad pitt where you know they have in them was versatile a- they really deserve the word. I'm not no one's looking for that from bruce willis now on those sorts necker is kiana and doesn't need to be anything <hes> he's just. He's a fun time yeah. We're almost done then that net foots film that came out of nowhere. We'll check how the franken love always be my. Maybe we told you about that right. I had seen on that flex. It's such a charming film. I can't remember the name of the guy but i love him to and he was in the interview anyway. He's really good and that wraps in in this movie and then keanu reeves plays. A version version of himself is so not like whereas attention tends just douchebag but man he's so good in slow motion when they introduced him to tale bomb bomb brands so much most these blowing kisses yeah it was fantastic and that cafe where you you like what was it i think you know i think you listening to the thoughts of the animals you something so no weird yeah i mean this year john three amazing cameo and always be my maybe and then toy story for where he plays cocoons which again i didn't love toy story four but he was very no doubt fan of toy story. Oh you love yeah. I toy story three to me is still oklahoma in the why why like even better than the first i won the third. Bono is the bathroom normal to me yeah we. I think we talked about it. I didn't like i thought buzz. Light year was completely sidetracked yet and and it didn't make sense to me that would he would just leave. Everyone like i mean that's not who he is so anyway. We could go on a tangent on that but i loved it yeah. It's still still have the same ama billion dollars so it did yeah but kiani was great as duke cobham <hes> and then as i said they've just wrapped production action on bill and ted faced the music which i'm excited about i mean but at least i think next year it's either gonna be colossal disaster. Kinda like zululand landed too tight or it's going to be brilliant so hopefully the script is good because it's alex winters playing those characters in the mid fifties and it has <hes> samara. We've won alex winters daughter and then did you see a typical at this from a typical young leaves towards yeah so they play play the daughters awesome. I'm excited for that and then the news that just got everyone that does that now matrix for is being made twenty-one with carrie anne moss coming back and kanye reason again. I'm not totally sure how because obviously i guess just going to reboot the matrix or something or bring them back but obviously hey there aged by twenty years but i mean who am i kidding of course our watcher matrix movie especially with all the now the original cost in i'm sold i expected expected to be similar to star wars in that everyone will be incredibly excited and it'll either do phenomenally opie a huge disappointment..

"The the buddhists believe is the reincarnated and then it goes into the whole poss- life story of buddha and this that and the other is a pretty bad movie. I was too young to consider it a sore one-piece. He's got the boom very weird all right well. Your dad likes one fan cohost. That's her her. Dad's name okay then. I've actually seen even cowgirls. Get the blues. I don't remember him in it but samantha mathis i think was in that who i'd huge crush on but it it was a terrible movie here. It was a really bad movie so we will move on from that see. That's what i'm saying as much of a lot. He's definitely done some stinkers okay so the next film is when he became an international star yes which is one thousand nine hundred four speed. I love speed so i mean i saw this. I saw listen the theater. I remember the buzz i was already a fan of his from point break from bill and ted but he wasn't known as this big main kind of endless hunky star at all. It's made him the top magazine yeah. I think it's because you're right. He still had that kind of surfer stone kind of dude five yeah. This just established him as a leading man and sandra had just kinda blown up. This was the film that made a big star trek nick chemistry and talk just out of this world. I'll always remember at the beginning of the film pop quiz hotshot. There's a bomb obama on the bus. The bus lose fifty miles an hour. The palm is armed. Once it goes under fifty miles it blows up what you do what you do the bad guys naming dennis hall really good this guy. I saw that i had actually a creepy obsession with that film. I watched it it over and over and our most people did i mean so it was huge. It was a sensation jeff daniels. All you're right. Sandra bullock was also like action suspense dispense with it was funny and is going. I am and it was so ridiculous but totally believable right and you're right. It was nonstop adrenaline but he was phenomenal and his chemistry was sandra. Is i think what really elevated so it made him kind of more than just like the action in hot shots because there was this romantic part to it as well and they were just adorable. I saw in the theater and remember. It's one of those films where you go like. It's one of those films. I talk about that. Don't happen these days where you go to a movie and the entire audience is just raptured and just like oh my god this is an everyone was applauding applauding and cheering out and you're like when can i see it again right yeah i saw two or three times in the theater and many many times on VHS DVD blu et cetera so speed established keanu reeves as like a big shave with dr who we'll just as a stock leading man he was off to the big and then for some reason he did johnny minimum nick. Did you ever see that. I think certainly was terrible. It was a science fiction movie. I saw in the theater it was oh something something needs not a robot but it was like this kind of like punkish sifi but he's huge now so they mock mocked today and it was just a i saw in the theater and it was terrible and what's weird is he did a few films like this again after speed because then he you did a walk in the clouds ninety five now your check so i'm gonna give you the floor right. I saw at once. I thought it was really sappy and languid super sappy by. I'll talk to a very sweet love story. I don't remember it. Yes so it's <hes> it was like an italian one. Maybe i wanna say post world war one. He's like a soldier coming home. He stops off on a bus in italy and there's is crying. Women the basically the concept of the story is is she. She tells him you really do this. I've seen it quite recently <unk>..

"It's actually a very good movie scored my own private idaho okay very critically acclaimed but it's not a movie. Everyone knows because it's about gay hustlers. They're gay hustlers. Okay an it's a very kind of quirky dramatic dramatic movie <hes> it. I mean him and river or very good net. It's very well. I haven't seen it but i have no. I'd recommend i mean again. It's not everyone's cup cup of tea. <hes> then following off of the <hes> you know the i think the colt buzzing status of bill and ted's excellent adventure they did bill and ted's focus journey which is actually underrated. I love to do that film but it wasn't a big success but that film i think has stood the test of time. It gets better and better at scott. Evil ted an evil build evil robots on robot chubby you know and <hes> <hes> the princesses and then death the guy who plays death williams sadly is fantastic annette breast out of five. I i suck your battleship anyway. He was fantastic in that so i mean he's coming back for the third movie as well death is and it just <hes> i really enjoyed that movie sore again last year for probably the first time in maybe a decade and was surprised how much i actually really enjoyed it so that was really good. <hes> then the after that again this is another film where he kind of he forayed into more dramatic movies and he got kind of slandered for this and i don't think he's as terrible as everyone thinks he is. I just not a big fan of the movie which is bram stoker's dracula so i thought he was pretty bad in this you did so. It's interesting though that the two you've we've mentioned that he's considered really bad syrian. He's he doesn't suit period and that's in miami miam- surface style lingo leaving his guys do sometimes have trouble in acting thing in certain ways and so forth. I watched it. I thought he was it is him in that kind of scenario. Just didn't have chemistry in my opinion at all in that film. I thought they were cute in that recent net flicks moving when owner rider gary oldman anthony hopkins. I didn't even think anthony hopkins was good in that movie. She don't like the film very that's what i'm saying. I'm not a big fan of it. Gary oldman is good and i think his chemistry with winona ryder was actually quite good and it's not a great movie but yes he gets keanu gets lambasted specifically for dracula <hes> and dangerous liaisons behind behind the true and i would just say is miscast not social okay. We'll move on his what's weird because this is a period piece much ado about nothing too readily by brand. I've definitely seen it and i like it and i don't remember him in so it's one thousand nine hundred ninety three and he's the villain and he's actually quite delicious in this movie quite good in that. I really liked him now. I just got an image weird because somehow he pulled us off look. I don't love this movie. This is this is when they were doing all the shakespeare films. You know and it's all in shakes. I like the story of right to do about nothing a lot. Yeah it was a charming movie and he's like the conniving one kind of stirring everything but he was quite good in it so it's kind of odd that civilian exception to the rule otherwise i agree with he is meant to be an yeah. The the funny thing is i actually agree with you but this is just a strange obsession then again. He doesn't have a large role in to not really in the other so we'll reset to the gods okay so then i guess he's really trying to make like special movies award worthy movie 'cause he'd yeah i mean this is just a bad movie little buddha. Do you remember that movie. So what's funny. Have you seen that yes several times really i've seen it once loved this movie now and he he kept replaying it. What's it about again. Just remember him like naked like a little kid..

"It's very endearing and of course i mean look the legacy at has it's become like a real classic breath so then next was parenthood so again. This is a ron howard movie and this is an ensemble film. Keanu reeves again. He has a good supporting role and he's. It's really good in this film. It's called baby. Were keen phoenix in as well like i have seen this twelve years old and joaquin phoenix is like having problems with his sexuality and he's mike secretly watching porn and he he he's very intimidating scared about masturbation and kind of keanu reeves takes him under his wing and kind of nurture. Sim helps small role that it's kinda keanu playing kion new like you man who do just the call kind of guy but it's a nice film so that's parenthood again again was interesting as especially at the beginning of his career. That's all these obscure movies. I four when i was putting this list together now. I'm interested in kind of going back and checking them out. They're actually it quite hard to find and they don't know if that's a good thing or a bad. It's like that leonardo. Dicaprio movie called don's plum or something which like you literally cannot find anywhere erased it currently he's offer lynette and it's literally impossible to find you know <hes> <hes> okay good then. There's another movie after parenthood that came out in one thousand nine hundred ninety. I love you to death. I've never heard okay another one. After that tune in tomorrow tomorrow never heard of it so that's like one two three four five five five movies from the eighty six to the ninetieth literally never heard heard of now after this pretty much everything he's done now. He's much more in the limelight. I think you're right. I think bill and ted specifically really kind of them on the map it it did but then for me where this is when i it cemented my love akia new which is point break nineteen ninety one. I think the world yes so this is another film that i would cool absolutely a classic out of the roster. We've gone through so far. I'd say bill and ted. L..

"The next one is young blood. Which i actually haven't. I haven't seen either. I think it's like a sports movie honestly asli i haven't seen it so <hes> can't discuss it will move on from nineteen eighty eight permanent record. I've never even heard arguments with no idea okay good so there's a few hair where i was going through his category because you know me. I like to cover them. A war and it's like well. I've never even heard of these but i'm gonna mention them. Next is the the prince of pennsylvania never heard of these like low budget indie movies <hes> then the next one which i have seen i do remember him in this and and poor keanu gets rid a court for this this movie role which is dangerous liaisons. Have you seen so this is like number one. He plays well. This is like can official version of cruel and tanya. I remember based off dangerous liaisons which was a big oscar film with michelle pfeiffer. John malkovich glencoe uncured reeves. I mean it's like it's olden times. It's hundreds of years ago victorian period and and he is horribly miscast. You know look. There's nothing wrong with him. He's just miss cost when it's got really top tier actors like glenn close john malkovich does and it's a little yeah he just he stood out. I don't think that he was really terrible. But that's decent film. It's a good drama. I enjoyed that movie the law and he plays the lead as in malkovich glenn close and <hes> michelle pfeiffer leads but he's someone who courts michelle pfeiffer and he's the guy that has the deal with john malkovich and kills him in the end spoilers but the films like from the eighties. It's like thirty years old so he's got. He's got like a significant role in the movie but he's not a lead most of these. He's not a leader. All you know river's edge. Even it's an ensemble boca's but he's in that film throughout okay then often dangerous liaisons the night before again never even heard of it so i am assuming you have an either okay good and then one of his most iconic roles nine thousand nine hundred eighty nine bill and ted's excellent adventure so i mean i've loved this movie since day one like since day one. I absolutely adore this movie. It's you know it's a cult classic movie but actually what people forget was. When it came out it was actually she quite successful. It was even quite well. Reviewed 'cause once interesting about this movie and i've gone back and watched the just a few months ago. It's actually quite a smart move. It is yeah because these two kids who are like loses. They can't really play any <hes> you know instruments or anything like that and in the future that's supposed to come together as the wild stallions and bring peace through that music but they have to like pasta his streak loss in order to do that so rufus you know goes back in in time to help them out and gives them a time machine and they go through time but it's like a history lesson you learn about socrates and the policeman ling could than all these i mean it's actually quite educational but of course that's a bill s preston esquire and ted theodore logan together we are wild stallions stallions and feel like it was the star of that type of comedy like wayne's world and different things and other things followed this kind of like dude comedy and well. It was the first broke i had something like that. My sister brought that film into our house and it was like oh this new movie out bill and ted blah and we we all loved. That's funny because one of the first people remember watching with was. MSA and emmanuel is married to miss any sister. I mean we were huge fans of of those movies so bill and ted's excellent adventure. I mean again. You know i mean i. It's a silly goofy movie but he was great. The and you know it was such a fun movie..

"And you know it was a a you know like yo- wo- i am johnny utah a member of the earth be anyway i love. I love and what's interesting is. He's done everything when you think about he now. He's really redefined himself as like an action star but he's done comedies. He's done drama sifi. He's done really stunned under some of the best stuff out there so anyway so that's why this episode is dedicated to keanu reeves. We love you. We love you johnny. We really do and i'm i'm so happy for him. I mean obviously his the kinison's has kind of been brewing for several years with the first john wick. When i john wayne movie came out it was just this like low budget action flick that everyone disregarded and then the critics were and were like holy shit. This movie's really got it got like incredible reviews full stood up by a puppy yeah oh my god yeah and then it was but he is front and center and he's just so bad ass in that movie and now it's a franchise with three movies that just got better and better like the mission impossible films the only thing i can kind of liken it to you know they just better and better the the the third one. I absolutely loved but this year has just been ridiculous for him. I mean he's like leading a you know a video game character likened of him at that net flix film <hes> will always be my baby which was so charming where he parodies himself like a pretentious asshole version himself. He's so good in john rick three three para bellum which like it made more than both films combined on the first weekend fantastic. I love it <hes> billon intead face to music which finally went into production. The long awaited sequel. I loved those movies <hes> which just wrapped production and then of course they he just announced matrix for who knows how they're gonna do that. I guess quite simple all just probably reboot the matrix or something but that's only in my mind that thing <unk> happening because of kiana read totally stop power again because again. If you remember in the ninety s he was one of the biggest as you said or the two thousands he was one of the biggest stars and then his star kinda faded but you never stopped working. He really went into some more. I would say <hes> not necessarily even low budget legit productions but things that were a little bit more off the limelight you know yeah i mean we also have to pull the some of them are turkeys yeah some of the things and some of of them and you know maybe he just wanted to step away for a bit rhythm who knows i mean again i like he got his hollywood star fame or well no he put his handprints the grauman's t- TLC theater what used to be the chinese theater and his speech was so endearing man. I love making movies. I get up every day and i get to make movies and entertain you. I love what i do. I mean it was just so cool by the way he just turned fifty five yesterday unbelievable five five years old. You know i mean he's tom. Cruise crazy looks fantastic and i mean what he can do. Physically is saying okay good so ah keanu reeves. We're gonna go through his entire body of work and again. You may not have seen some of these. There's very few i haven't seen but there are some <hes> but we'll just kinda discuss them debate them talk about what we like what we dislike and just go through his whole body of work and that's just admire and enjoy the kiana in a sense sounds good. You're ready. I'm ready okay good so that see what we've got here right back in one thousand nine hundred eighty six and i've actually seen this film. A couple bowl times river's edge. Have you ever seen this movie. I believe i did. I don't remember at all so it's yona sky isn't crispin glover you know <hes> <hes> monte mc fly from the back to the future movies and <hes> keanu reeves is this is like one of his very first movies if not his first movie and it's like a eighteen drama..

One before actually actually we already had it prepped and i just couldn't pass it up which is a spotlight on kiani res. This is like you know whether they calling the kiana. Since since i mean this is such his year although i think you'll agree with me i mean i've always loved. Kion always loved him. He's one of those actors that is just so chiming unlikable. We can all agree. He's not the best actor. The guy isn't front and center for oscars or awards but he picks good movies and he's entertaining. I know people make fun of him like woo but that's like his signature and he's so cool and so charming uh-huh charming and lovable he was my crush from the age of twelve right and he just seems like such a dong on-court human valley other thing in real life from all the reports everything you hear every nicest guy in the world yeah well actually actually. That's like a mythology around him. It's not just the interviews. Is it because i mean he's had a lot of tragedy and river. Phoenix was like his closest friend who died eight and his fiancee died in a car crash and a family member fragment with his unborn child kind of stopped you know so this is becoming coming down despite all this is someone who's always stayed humble and apparently he likes secretly donate charities anonymously.

Michael Jordan, Keanu Reeves And Emile Hirsch discussed on Collider Movie Talk
"So apparently the matrix matrix for it is happening variety reports that loud on what caskey will write and direct a fourth matrix movie with kiana ribs and carrie ann moss reprising their roles so given all the rumors circulating about the matrix. I was surprised to hear this especially given the ending of revolution. So what do do you think about this news. Where could they possibly go with the story. Now i gotta let coin ready for this movie. It's okay in one thousand nine hundred nine twenty years ago. They foretold how ominous technology was gonna be. That movie was so prophetic and now we're living in an age where we often often don't know what's real and what's simulation whether or not you go to burning man. There's a very zatarain surreal quality to what reality is because of fakes because of technology. We've been overcome by technology technology in real life and now there is the perfect time to make the matrix four to retroactively fix the matrix two and three which could have been one very good movie rumor was i heard this this was back in the early two thousands that the animatrix and the matrix two and three it was supposed to be a trilogy but they wanted to do one before the matrix one after the matrix but because of the star wars. I don't know if this is true. Through warner brothers like no no no so they made the animatrix and then they split two and three into two movies but it should have just been one and that's why this movie's filled up loaded. I don't know if that's true but now they can fix that the matrix is more timely than ever keanu reeves is back in another hot streak carrying moscow's incredible and jessica jones. I love the idea of. I don't know why it's it's one which hausky but i love the idea of original crater coming back to a franchise that actually changed cinema. The first matrix is one question for you though so so. I think you use the word retroactively we're. We're talking a lot about ret cons lately but we were talking about something even before the show started that i think might be important to point out here when you say you know do things retroactively ret con whatnot. You're not talking about necessarily just like wiping the slate clean and saying this never happened. You're talking about adding it <unk> adding to it enhancing it. I haven't watched them in years. I've watched the first one planning but the second to there's an entire sequence if i remember correctly with the architect where there's a bunch of nieto's what easier franchise to fix than one where there's that many reality is easier. It's a movie about coding recode. The damn matrix is right there. So all you needed was the people that want it and the technology to catch up to make it different enough to make it worth making and the talent and we got all that in this announcement one of my very favorite things in this announcement is a quote and it says many of the ideas lilly and i explored twenty years ago about our reality are or even more relevant net lake more relevant now. That is the key terms phrase whatever that suggests that this franchise is worth bringing back. I could tell your super into into whatever <hes> was pitching this now well. It's just something i'm really passionate this year in general and storytelling is all the use of parallel realities alternate timelines justice that is also in any property and immediate fixture problem like it's not annoying. It's interesting it's exciting and and this is a- an ideal property to do that with you have to you we also have seen so with halloween. You can go that didn't happen and people will be okay with it. It's totally fine but by incorporating these sort of parallel words or re recoding as you said you don't have to do that you can satisfy both realities without pissing off a fair legion of fans who probably would be like what we saw that happen. It's real may chase recorded voted well. The thing is we say glitch in the matrix in everyday vernacular expression yeah a glitch in the matrix console all three and four we can actually go back and have a deja vu black cat experience and that's exciting and canneries doesn't age. It's very convenient. I that was one of the the biggest things about the story just seeing that the two of them are back but also we only get one which hausky this time which i find very interesting just curious. What do you guys make of that. I mean it is an interesting scenario that you hope is not in any way negative. The fact that lily was mentioned in the press release speaks well and the fact that they've worked together for like forty years see. We looked quite peacefully. I maybe lillies busy. Maybe she feels done with the story. You know there's a lot lot of possible reasons for that but it's it's interesting from a creative perspective if if that is solely lana on her own that i'm curious to see okay how the world might feel different when it's just one mind sort of creating this time around what's interesting to me is is that in conjunction with how many incredible creators came out of the matrix as we have like the john wick team and so many people that we now have directing their own work whether or not they come back to be like first a._d. Or any sort of second unit what the assemblage blue-chip the matrix is because we only have one which hausky instead of the pair so i'm really curious what the movie feels like and we'll be able to tell it's one of them instead of the pair of them because we've only seen them work together to my knowledge. I don't think i've ever seen a single hausky film. I think you're right. I i did like tried to double. Check really fascinating. There's always i'm <music>. I'm an apologist for a lot of their people. Don't like like i'm a big fan of what was the one about the the true through tom hanks. I liked that movie. I the credits of cloud atlas. They reveal who everybody played. Yeah i mean look. I like all of their movies yeah right up on the second for jupiter island because i love that speed racer summons emile hirsch whenever speed racer sir is trending. Emile hirsch was like yes. I'm here in tweets but like speed racer is one of those cult following. I think it came out six months too soon. The world wasn't quite ready for speed racer and the matrix four or is. I hope this is a movie that blows our minds because what they did with bullet time in ninety nine changed things. I can't wait to see what they can do. Twenty years later technology. I'm also curious are as has she says it's more relevant but also our relationship to technology has changed entirely in those decades and i'm very curious what the perspective on it is if it's still the the same. Is there any part of the movie where it's like now. We gotta plug back in the ass plugged in now. I know well. That's what's interesting is ninety nine i. I don't maybe i'm wrong but i don't think phones had internet like or if they did. It was rudimentary pretty average folks. I don't mind texting back marrow's still playing snake on nokia that point and you're doing like corey keyboard texting yeah. I was eleven so i don't remember who had i didn't have internet so what we are now. Now is such a different animal than what that movie represented them but you can watch the matrix now and it doesn't feel old yeah when you watch the matrix the first one it doesn't feel dated so i can't wait to see what they do with the world catching catching up to the reality of the already made. Maybe i'm just i'm afraid to see what they're about to foretell about the future sickly the way they did with the last one hundred forty nine the matrix man. That's a very fair concern very very. I want to know but i'm not sure if i want a fair concern that speaks to how rich this opportunity entity is because it's very exciting because we talk about you know reboot sequels franchises continuing you know twenty years after the last movie came out you name it and we're always like well you repeating something like does this just seems like a really again rich opportunity to continue a popular franchise where you're basically justifying it in the pillars of the franchise itself so i'm pumped and for me. It doesn't doesn't feel like where we have like. Indiana jones nineteen where they're like inventing a new story. The matrix said the video game the animatrix and the two sequels this rich world. They've already built up that they probably had other ideas for or and had ideas for the last twenty. Here's a here's a question from the live chat briefly from who rang who's writing. What does what does it mean for michael jordan. He was mentioned to star matrix matrix reboot. Maybe plays morpheus as son but really quickly before you guys even answer that it was making me think <hes> oddly enough off. I am more into the idea of another matrix movie with keanu coming back with a movie basically being pitched as matrix four rather than getting what we were originally talking about about you know just prequels and different offshoots as much as i like michael jordan i kind of hope that that is done and it's gone and they just move move forward as we were just discussing here. I mean i might be remembering incorrectly but i believe that had a different writer attached they did yeah sounds like a pretty the different project i have no problem whatsoever with michael jordan being in this movie because he's phenomenal and that would be great casting if they want to keep that one little nugget of that project alive. I do please yeah but it sounds that they're pretty separate at least from what the reports read like yeah to me. This is a separate property but if he's on the radar is on the radar so then it's a good thing and it's warner brothers so michael. Jordan is very much on their radar so it's a great opportunity to clarify. I'll take michael jordan anything. It's just when i first read the read the the news or a rumor at that point that that's what they were exploring. I'm like okay but then i hear something like what we're talking about right now and that's the hook. That's how you get me back in. I agree i. I don't think a reboot released spoke to me but hearing the story evolved from an original creator really speaks to the original team for the team sending

"Teaser released for The Lion King, and it's notable because you got to hear beyond say, as Nala for the first time interesting way to do it very subdued not big fanfare. The pretty big reveal. One of the most famous people in the world period, but they put it out there and it's making the way around the web, you also here Seth Rogan Kumba and Billy Eichner is to moan more. We shot out the Billy Eichner for the quote tweet on Twitter fan of our trailer. We jumped the gun there on Disney marketing, and he tweeted us, so you got to hear her for the first time. It's very quick. Brief. I don't much say about it of the fact that I'm getting more and more excited for this movie, I think, just because of how enjoyable I think the theater experience is going to be a lot of nostalgia. I think it's fairly okay to say, as I've mentioned, many times that you can note the movie is unnecessary, but also very excited for it. Because at this point I'm more excited for lying than I am. Matt Damon, Carroll Shelby And Nikki Lauda discussed on Lights Camera Barstool
"Ferrari releases. No, meme, November fifteenth later this year starring Christian bale Matt Damon believe it's based on a book and pretty highly anticipated I was curious what the reaction would be. Like we tweeted, the trailer reaction was huge automobile magnets. Henry Ford, and Lee is it coca I KoKo, yet dispatch a team of engineers and designers to build a car to race against Ferrari at the nineteen sixty six lemons, I guess, say it 'cause you bail LeMond is that makes more sense Christian bale as Ken miles, Matt Damon has Carroll Shelby. They're in it. They're the two big stars that took got people very excited on Twitter yesterday, and on Instagram like shit Damon bail on excited. James Mangold is directing. It's really just overall. This is first movie since Logan, by the way, overall just toward a force of people things you wanna see with this movie. It's like one of the first FOX things at Disney's releasing, well, actually like second or third because I've tarp FINA comes out this week, but very excited. I've other trailer was great got pretty I've for this one. This is the list of things. I'm excited for later this year. It looked anymore bettas of an old guy named in Carroll Shelby. No, that's that's up there. Yeah. Yeah. I thought great. I love Christian bale and his whatever accent. He wants to put on does, you know, he's from Britain. Well. Anyway, carry on. Yeah. I thought cool, I you know, I like cars. I'm not huge in a motor sports, but I you know, it'll be nice to seems like all these. To. I wanna call them period. Pieces like period type racing movies had have ended up in very good. Whether it's can we just talked about it. Rush Russia on race compete Anneke louder. Yeah. Nikki Lauda just passed away. I mean that that was really good. And this, this looks like that. And then was there, another one was at the cinema movie. I can't remember if that was a documentary or not, I seem to end up enjoying them.

"He's walking onto the dance floor and then behind him is a screen, that's projecting these hypnotic swirls, and it's just the perfect match here of actor in an atmosphere. It's, it's an action star who operates not by brute force, not by for Nick energy. But by hypnosis, he's hypnotize ING the guys he's after before he gets them. So really great action scene on its own face. But can't Reeves makes. Work. I love that sequence at definitely strongly considered by me. I decided to go with a different moment, though. And in different choice by Keanu from John wick for my number three and in some ways, I found it challenging to pick picky on who moment from John wick, because a lot of my favorites are scenes that Keanu isn't in. It's all the scenes when other people are talking about John wick, that I really enjoy from the film. But this is another excerpt from Angelica talking about Keanu as an action star, a certain baggage, he sells every punch given or received every throw knife, every ounce of blood spill there was way to the action in the film, you see the toll. It takes on his body and at times, a minute shift of his expression, acknowledging how age affects performance when he's already wounded and gets into a fight for his life with his Perkins. We feel it definitely fought about that scene too, in the hotel were fighting is forbidden, but actually wanted to apply Djelic theory about the action having a weight, and how age affects performance to a moment of dialogue in John. Wick? And this is the I'm back sequence. But it's not that line that really matters for me. It's the build up to it. It's a scene where I don't even know where he is some nondescript warehouse, of course, like you see in these movies, and he's been caught somehow at this point, he actually, I think, is in handcuffs. He's sitting in a chair and the bad guy. Vigo. Michael Nyquist is targeting him. A little. It's his son that Kia news. John wick is out to kill and he surrounded by henchman and Vigo says doom. It was just a car. It was just a dog. And this is the moment where the action hero usually says something really cruel and witty. And instead, we get something really raw an emotionally vulnerable. And so I'm going to let the scene play out because I can't do this moment, Justice certainly imitating Keanu Reeves as John wick. But what I really want you to key into. Two is the transition, the moment where everything changes by. Was just car. Just don't. Trust off. Biko died. I lost everything. Until that dog arrived on my doorstep. A fungal gift for my life in that moment. I received some Simmons. Number two hundred grieve on. And your so. Took that from me stole that from me. Got. People keep asking you back. And I haven't really had an answer. But now yeah I'm taking back. So you can either had over your. Oh, you can't. Again, he's totally exposed emotionally here talking about his wife, dying, and losing everything and the dog arriving on his doorstep. A semblance of hope the opportunity to grieve una loan. And again, he's talking to the bad guy who really couldn't care less, and a roomful a henchman watching it, I almost felt like the room could break out, laughing at how weak and maybe pitiful, he's acting there in that moment, and then we do get the flip. We get the complete vocal change in John wick, and it's a ten to twelve second close up. So the transformation from the vulnerable, wick to the vengeful, wick, isn't about a shot or an edit it's all in Kino's performance when you hear him say, and your son, took that from me, the weight of it, it's delivered with a growl, that seems to come from the depths of hell, the worst pain mixed with scorn that absolutely explains. Everything wick has been doing. Everything wick is going to do from here on out, and that it's really about so much more than just a car or just a dog. And I think that a less mature actor, less mature key on Reeves couldn't have imbued that line with that weariness. And I don't think that a younger count who may have had the vocal control, even to go down to the register he goes to here, and I'll use the word cool..
