Lance Reddick, 'The Wire' and 'John Wick' star, dies at 60

"Actor Lance Reddick known for the wire, fringe and the John Wick franchise has died. He was 60. Reddick may be best known for playing a cop at the HBO series the wire. These people do not touch the drugs. They don't go near the drugs. The wire is what gives us box deal. The actor died Friday of natural causes, according to his publicist, the Baltimore born and raised Reddick was a Yale drama school grad, and once said, I knew I was at least as talented as other students, but because I was a black man and I wasn't pretty, I knew I would have to work my butt off. John Wick star Keanu Reeves says he's dedicating the upcoming film to Reddick and was deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss. Redick is survived by his wife and children. I'm Julie Walker.

"Keanu's bike tastes are unsurprisingly very cool. He is immediately, okay? He's Neil and John Wick. Yeah. You know? I mean, are we surprised? One bit. Not one bit, dude. This guy rules. He has little brand loyalty writing Ducati's Kawasaki's Harley's and BMW's. Keanu's second ever bike and incredibly restored 1973 Norton commando 8 50 Mark two a is an specimen. That's nice. His bike collection is not known in total as he is famously private, but we do know it includes a restored 1974 BMW R 75 and el Diablo West Coast chopper and a Ducati 9 9 8 painted. The matrix reloaded the matrix that freeways. Trinity hops on a Ducati jumps it off of that car loader, so sick. So sick. Though it's no surprise that his interest in motorcycles include not just maintenance, but also restoration in fabrication. Interests that led him to do something no one else on this list has done. You were just going to say start a company and I was like, dude, Frankie Muniz had his olive oil. All these good, yeah. He started to forget about Frankie Muniz. Let's not forget about that. Olive oil and vinegar. And vinegar, that's right. Right. Raised teams do have employees. Keanu had a 2005 Harley dinah wide glide of 1500 CC V twin that he wanted to customize and was introduced to guard hollinger. Wow. Guard is the owner of LA county chop rods. And has been customizing bikes for over 20 years. They explored what Keanu wanted to do with his Harley and over the following ten years came up with a prototype for a small scale production bike. That was firmly this is my favorite one so far. My favorite one so far. This was the beginnings of what is now arch motorcycles. Keanu and guards bespoke motorcycle company. Commonly, custom bike companies will use an engine from a major manufacturer like Harley and build around it. Keanu wanted to build bikes that had a lot of power without losing agility or aesthetics. This is a complicated idea. As powerful motorcycles are usually road sofas, or harleys have a lot of torque. Yeah, big old V Twain. It looks like it got stung by a bee. It does. Yeah. The arch very much combines both. And it's $78,000 in freaking better. We're not idea. I sang a sweet. They're based in Hawthorne as well. I bet I bet Ben Connor knows them. He's like, oh yeah, he came over dinner last week. That's my Ben con. Yeah. Keanu continues to have a passion for motorcycling so much so that every movie he does, he must sign a contract release, stating that he will not ride a motorcycle during the production of the film. But we know. We know that these don't keep Neil. These arc bikes look sick. Yeah. While their success on the track may not hold a candle to the success on the screen, the one unifying feeling conveying by these stars is that they would likely prefer spending their time in embrace car over their original profession. And while Frankie Muniz is likely the exception, both Dempsey and priestley suggested to the press at one time that they wished that they could focus primarily on racing. And while their celebrity and money have certainly helped them get a foothold into a highly competitive racing world, only a period desire to race and win could possibly have these guys are living the dream. Yeah. They get to have a cool job and make a lot of money doing it and then buy cool toys that I also like and that in my mind makes them cool. Yeah, great. Great. Yeah, great. We got some fan mail. This is from John from Papua. I think this might be some. Yeah. Hey, first, big fan of the podcast. By the way, boiler room is an amazing movie. Lots of love from Lake county, Wisconsin. It's a bit better than Minnesota and a hell of a lot better than others. I'd love a podcast about automotive company parts brands. Why are Chrysler products referred to as Mopar? What's the deal with motorcraft? Isn't AC delta owned by GM? What do these brands? Why do these, what do these brands still exist? I guess the equivalent to Euro cars would be Bosch. But why would each of the big three need their own? First of all, Bosch is a TV show. It's not a parts manufacturer. Great actor. The links love busting. Old cars. Well, thanks, John from P walki. Shout out to my Wisconsin. What's gone through and brethren? You guys don't even know how to talk. He had a typo in there. Wisconsin sucks. Yeah. Thank you guys for listening. Thank you so much. Yeah, subscribe to the YouTube channel and everything. Big thank you to our producers this week. And every week, Kristina felski and Gavin kinsel, and our writer Jimmy Pennington. Great name for a writer. We're gonna go Pennington. Find Keanu's shop. See ya. But not in a weird way.

"You gotta make sure. In all, Patrick's empty scored 9 podiums in high profile races like the Rolex 24, the Sebring 12 hours, the road Atlanta. And the Fuji round of the 2015 FIA world endurance championship. He once told The Today Show that he was considering leaving acting in order to focus on racing full-time, adding quote, I'm not necessarily bored with Grey's Anatomy. I'm incredibly grateful to have a show that's been on for ten years, but it's not the same. All the hot piece on that show is getting directors instead of race stewards. You got a steering wheel instead of a scalpel and a script. You good. In the show, I barely even wear it. Patrick expanded on his passion for racing in eurosport that same year. Saying, I would like to make motor sport a complete priority and just focus on this all the time. If I could just walk away from acting, I think I could do that very easily. And just focus on driving, I would love that more than anything. Once you left Grey's Anatomy in two 1015, he drove for a little while before fully retiring to focus on his family. But I suspect that's not the last we'll see. Of Patrick Dempsey behind the wheel. I think there's a theme through all these stories that actors are just super competitive and they get to the point in their career because they're so competitive and they're just like head down, do the work kind of stuff and they seem very dedicated to whatever they're doing. I'm painting with broad strokes here. No, I think you're right. I think I was an actor and I was like that's why I guess I'm a YouTuber. You know Eric Bana. I am not. I've never even built a beast. Yeah, he's a really bad guy. So you're kind of conflicted. I don't agree with this guy's methods, but he looks sick as hell. Yeah, but I know. What? They're gonna happen between him and Spock and Kirk. Eric almost had a completely different career path as he considered dropping out of school at 14 to become a full-time auto mechanic. And it's just like red carpet flashes and stuff. But really, I'd like to focus on. And that documentary, he also destroyed the car. Yeah. Eric also purchased a Porsche 9 44 in 2004 to compete in Australia, Porsche challenge, a series of racers in which he topped out at fourth in the sand down race.

"<Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You <Speech_Male> sent me the link to order <Speech_Male> more switches that are coming <Speech_Male> today, buddy. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> I didn't <Speech_Male> pay attention and I <Speech_Male> ordered 10,000 <Speech_Male> of them. Oh <Speech_Male> my God. You did not. <Speech_Male> Yes, I did. <Speech_Male> I didn't pay attention <Speech_Male> that it was ten per <Speech_Male> pack and <Speech_Male> not on <Speech_Male> Jerry. And I wanted <Speech_Male> to order a thousand <Speech_Male> to have while they <Speech_Male> were on sale. <Speech_Male> And I ordered 10,000. <Speech_Male> Oh <Speech_Music_Male> no. Did you kill them? I'm <Speech_Male> going to be reselling <Speech_Male> keyboard switches <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> on Twitter. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I just <Speech_Male> hit me up on my <Speech_Male> take some from me because I <Speech_Male> bought <Speech_Male> ten packs, <Speech_Male> not 10,000 packs. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Look at that <Speech_Music_Male> about a thousand packs. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> It was dumb. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> But yeah, I've just <Speech_Male> been, I've picked up some new <Speech_Male> key <Speech_Male> like <Speech_Male> key caps and key switches <Speech_Male> and a couple of boards here <Speech_Male> and there. <Speech_Male> And I've <Speech_Male> just been <Speech_Male> enjoying <Speech_Male> topping away on them. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Something small, <Speech_Male> but it just, <Speech_Male> it's <SpeakerChange> just enjoyable. <Speech_Male> I need <Speech_Male> to try more mechanical <Speech_Male> keyboards 'cause the ones <Speech_Male> I've used are all <Speech_Male> too tall and <Speech_Male> my wrists eventually <Speech_Male> hurt after <Speech_Male> a while because they're, <Speech_Male> you know, they <SpeakerChange> have to bend <Speech_Male> up. Yeah, so I <Speech_Male> mean, <Speech_Male> I have boards <Speech_Male> that don't have a kickstand <Speech_Male> on them, so I just use a <Speech_Male> wrist rest. I have a <Speech_Male> couple different stress, <Speech_Male> like I have one right now. <Speech_Male> It's a <Speech_Male> wooden one from keychron, <Speech_Male> but I also have <Speech_Male> a couple of padded ones <Speech_Male> too. Yeah, <Speech_Male> I got a <Speech_Male> big wrist. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> Nick, <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> if you take a <Speech_Male> beer can <Silence> <Speech_Male> and put <Speech_Male> your wrist <Speech_Male> against the beer can <Speech_Male> and push <Speech_Male> down and make it <Speech_Male> crinkle the shape of your <Speech_Male> wrist, <Speech_Male> do that for each <Speech_Male> of your hands <Speech_Male> and set that in front of <Speech_Male> your keyboard. <Speech_Male> That'll tell you what it's <Speech_Male> like to use a keyboard <Speech_Male> rest and whether you like <Speech_Male> it or not. Oh <Speech_Male> my gosh. <Speech_Male> That's an old <Speech_Male> trick <Speech_Male> that I learned a long <Speech_Male> time ago. And you know <Speech_Male> what? It works. <Speech_Male> It gives you <Speech_Male> an approximation. <Silence> <Speech_Music_Male> Definitely <SpeakerChange> will. <Speech_Music_Female> Okay, so what I'm happy <Speech_Female> about this week <Speech_Female> is my <Speech_Female> partner and I are <Speech_Telephony_Female> getting married <Speech_Female> very soon and <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> it's just <Speech_Female> been such an <Speech_Female> easy process working <Speech_Female> with him on <Speech_Female> all the things <Speech_Female> for the wedding. <Speech_Female> And <Speech_Female> I know a lot of <Speech_Female> people can get really <Speech_Female> stressed out about these <Speech_Female> big events <Speech_Female> and <Speech_Female> all of that, but <Speech_Female> it's just been such a joy <Speech_Female> working <Speech_Female> with him. He's made this <Speech_Female> process so easy for <Speech_Female> me and <Speech_Female> I'm just <Speech_Female> really excited about <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> this special <Speech_Female> event that's going to happen. <Speech_Female> So yeah, <Speech_Female> that's what made me happy <Speech_Female> this week. All <Speech_Music_Female> right, on that note, <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> I just want to <Speech_Female> thank <Speech_Female> all of our Android central <Speech_Female> listeners <Speech_Female> for listening <Speech_Female> every week wherever you are, <Speech_Female> whether it's in the morning <Speech_Female> afternoon or night. <Speech_Female> Thank you so much for taking <Speech_Female> the time and listening <Speech_Female> to us, <Speech_Female> especially this week because <Speech_Female> I guess we're all <Speech_Female> a little kooky <Speech_Female> today so <Speech_Female> thanks for <Speech_Female> listening to <Speech_Female> our banter <Speech_Female> and we'll catch you <Speech_Female> guys next week. <Speech_Female> Bye. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> See ya. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> Later.

Should I <Speech_Male> really say this? <Speech_Male> Should <SpeakerChange> I really <Speech_Male> send this message? <Silence> Accurate. <Speech_Male> If <Speech_Male> you decide, yeah, <Speech_Male> it's fine. <Speech_Male> Then do it. <Speech_Male> I mean, send pictures <Speech_Male> of yourself <Speech_Male> naked, say <Speech_Male> whatever you want. <Speech_Male> You know, <Speech_Male> that's up to you. <Speech_Male> If you <Speech_Male> think it's the right thing <Speech_Male> to do and you feel good <Speech_Male> about it, do <Silence> it. <Speech_Male> But just make <Speech_Male> sure you think <SpeakerChange> about it. <Speech_Male> Wise words. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> Okay, my favorite <Speech_Female> part of the section <Speech_Female> segment, whatever <Speech_Female> podcast, big thumbs, <Speech_Female> wrists, <Speech_Female> you know, all of that <Speech_Female> good stuff. What <Speech_Female> was the thing that made <Speech_Female> you most happy this <Speech_Female> past week? Who wants to <Speech_Music_Male> go first? <SpeakerChange> <Silence> I'll go <Speech_Male> first. <Speech_Male> I didn't <Speech_Male> have to get <Speech_Male> any of that Samsung <Speech_Male> stuff. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I haven't <Speech_Male> been feeling good <Speech_Male> and I didn't <Speech_Male> have to <Silence> break <Speech_Male> my balls <Speech_Male> or ovaries. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Take your <SpeakerChange> pick. <Speech_Music_Male> Like some of <Speech_Male> these other guys did <Speech_Male> and <SpeakerChange> I <Speech_Male> know that's kind of work <Speech_Male> related, but <Speech_Male> that really I was <Speech_Male> glad because I don't think <Speech_Male> I could have <SpeakerChange> done it <Speech_Male> this week. Yeah. <Speech_Female> No, and we're glad <Speech_Female> that you were able to rest. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> It <Speech_Female> was important for us. So <Speech_Female> I'm happy that made you <Speech_Female> happy. <Speech_Female> Nick <Speech_Female> or <Speech_Female> Andrew. <Silence> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> Did I talk about <Speech_Male> the rabbits <Speech_Male> yet? <Speech_Male> You did. <Speech_Male> I did. <Speech_Male> How <SpeakerChange> about your thumb? <Speech_Male> Sorry. <Speech_Male> <Silence> <Speech_Music_Male> What <SpeakerChange> Jerry? <Speech_Male> Your thumbs, <Speech_Male> you're like the thumb <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> wrestling champ of <Silence> <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> eastern <Speech_Male> where you live state. <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> And let's see if I <Speech_Male> can come up with something. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Andrew go. <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> got nothing to be honest. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Next thumbs. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> Next thumbs <Speech_Male> made me happy this <Silence> week. <SpeakerChange> <Silence> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> You can say, <Speech_Male> okay, <Speech_Male> yeah, <Speech_Male> whatever. All right, so <Speech_Male> I've been going <Speech_Male> to New York. <Speech_Male> I feel like a bunch of times <Speech_Male> lately for <Speech_Male> events and <Speech_Male> stuff and <Silence> the <Speech_Male> event that one <Speech_Male> plus put on was actually <Speech_Male> a lot of <Silence> fun. <Speech_Male> <Silence> first <Speech_Male> big <Speech_Male> press events <Speech_Male> since <Speech_Male> before COVID. <Silence> <Speech_Male> We've had a couple of other <Speech_Male> events, but they're typically <Speech_Male> been <Speech_Male> small, like it's only <Silence> <Speech_Male> us in a room <Speech_Male> at one time. They schedule <Speech_Male> or something like that, whereas <Speech_Male> this was like, <Silence> they had a <Speech_Male> party, and they were like <Speech_Male> a hundred different people there <Speech_Male> from the press, and it <Speech_Male> was cool to <Speech_Male> see these people again <Speech_Male> that I haven't seen in three <Speech_Male> years or in <Speech_Male> some cases have never <Speech_Male> met in person. <Silence> <Speech_Male> So I don't know, <Speech_Male> I enjoyed <Speech_Male> the heck <SpeakerChange> out of that. <Speech_Male> That's not good. <Speech_Male> I'm happy. <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> I was <Speech_Female> going to say Andrew, <Speech_Female> do you want to retract <Speech_Female> what you said? And <Speech_Female> actually tell us <Speech_Male> what made you happy. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> Now that <Speech_Male> I'm getting settled <Speech_Male> more subtle than to <Speech_Male> my new house, I'm <Silence> getting <Speech_Male> back into my <Speech_Male> affinity for <Speech_Male> keyboards. <Speech_Female> Oh yeah. <Speech_Female> This week, <SpeakerChange> I've <Silence> <Speech_Male> shut up, Jerry.

"Uses T mobile's built in RCS thing. And that one's screwy as heck. Yeah. And then you have Verizon with their messaging plus nonsense. And that's screwy as heck, like they just, they just suck, man. They ruin everything. So it's not even in apple's best interest to do this from a user standpoint because it sucks. Yeah. The only solution was Apple could have participated when the standard was being set in. It's not too. And then we know if you were epic. Apple did that on purpose because they know iMessage is a way to get parents to spend more money and buy iPhones for their kids and that's the only reason they hold it close to their chest. Right. For sure. They're never going to give that up. They never going to give that up. It is what it is. This was Apple trying to sabotage the entire industry to make more money, which is what a company should do. Okay, okay, let's talk about one last topic, which I was really excited to read about because it happened in Canada. Well, actually, it happened based off of a. Survey that was conducted by NordVPN. And essentially, it was about respondents from different countries, including Canada, Australia and the UK showing that they've actually wanting things like financial information or details about their dating and sexual habits removed from the Internet. And a lot of this comes from that whole right to be forgotten, you know, debacle that happened a couple of a few years ago in which an individual in France wanted their information off the Internet forever and Google fought back saying and has been fighting back for a while now because they don't think that this should be done. For various reasons. And of course, I got the very amazing Jerry to write an article about it and he titled it. You have the right to be forgotten, but the Internet really is forever. And the reason why I asked him to write this is because I had to go on the radio to talk about this. And one of the questions that I was asked was, can you really get off of the Internet? Even if you delete

"Okay, if you came back, it's because you came back for Nick's thumbs. I swear to God. I am changing the title of this to you. At this point, you have to. We've mentioned it so many times. I have to mention. Discount big thumbs. A registering Nick thumbs dot com. Or a thumb central dot com. We'll just post pictures of thumbs up. Nick, get on only fans and sell pictures of your thumbs. Oh my gosh. But I'm like next to a smartwatch. Okay, guys. All right, please. Oh my God. You started this. I know I did. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Okay. So Nick wrote also a fantastic editorial this morning called deer companies stop removing features people actually like. And I love this article because obviously we're talking about the galaxy watch removing The Crown, the rotating crown, every you want to call it. But it encapsulates other companies doing this weird trend that a lot of people don't like. I do have an interesting thought on it because someone was saying to me how one of the reasons why people are getting rid of this is because they're what's the word they were getting with the times and doing what other people what the next generation or the next generation of people who want watches want. So obviously you've got the people who are going to look at the pixel watch or sorry the galaxy watch 5 and say, oh, okay, cool. This is what we're seeing. I want to get this watch. But then if people who don't who are watched for owners and liked that rotating crown, then they can keep their watch. But I guess it would be a disadvantage to those customers because if and when they were going to upgrade, it's possible that Samsung is going to keep this design as is and they won't ever bring that back. So anyways, I wanted to get your thoughts on this. And of course, get Nick's thoughts because he wrote it. Yeah, so as far as that thing where you said, you know, it went away this time, maybe it's coming back. I'm not convinced Samsung is going to bring this back just based on their answers because when we ask them more than once, why it was not included on the galaxy watch 5. The answer was quite literally because people can still buy the galaxy watch four classic with it. Okay. I mean, that's not really a good answer. But it's an answer, I don't know. I mean, in any case, yeah, it's like I put it in the article, homogenized. Like you're saying they're getting with the times or whatever and trying to be like other companies. That's exactly why you don't do this.

"Plastic on top of it in his defense. You're both right. There you go. It is amazing how the price creep has just, we've been desensitized to it. I feel like because I remember, what was the first full was it 2000 or $2100? I don't remember. 2100. I was 2100. They announced that and we were all just like, dear God. But who is going to pay that? And I mean, this is a little better, 1800. I mean, that's not 2100. So marginal improvements, but gosh, $1800 for a phone, you're gonna probably upgrade from in two years. That's just, wow. It's a lot. It's really just, it's a lot to take in when you actually step back and look at the numbers and go. This doesn't feel like it should be normal. Yeah, I don't know. I just, yeah, it just always baffles me. I just couldn't do it. I don't care if I had Elon Musk money. I just, there's no way I could spend two grand on a phone. I just couldn't. That's a lot of money. I think it depends on if it's replacing other devices because then you go, well, I would have bought this this and this. And now I'm only buying this one thing. I guess $2000, and maybe it's the way I was raised, the military family, we weren't like exactly rich or anything, but $2000 good God, that's a lot of money. Yeah. That'll feed you for a while for sure. Or give you 900 and 57 zebra cakes. That's right. Which you need after that. But yes. Okay. We're going to take a small break. And we're going to be right back because we still have more to talk about. So please stay. Listen and come back or I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm really tired. Anyways, I just, I always find it interesting when we talk about this because it just baffles me how much money companies are taking from people and how much money things have been costing now for technology. And I just wanted to throw that out there and ask what your thoughts were. I think the one that we left off was the weekly grocery Bill. That's about all you could buy. No, they left off mine. I was told we're not allowed to put mine on there. Oh no. Oh no, I wasn't talking about that one. I was going to say, which is the monkey? Yes, 'cause you can literally buy a pet monkey. I had no freaking idea, I want a monkey so bad. 25 bucks to the city. Go on. I'll buy a monkey and then give them a galaxy watch to wear. Hey, I wonder if I can expense that. Keep the monkey as small on a thumbs to use the watch. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I just think it's crazy how much money things are costing these days. But that's not anything new. It's not,

"I almost choked on my team. I was going to title this podcast discount Keanu Reeves, but I kind of want to change it to big thumbs big wrists. Or just big phones in general. Okay, okay. Y'all are making it hard for me not to get in trouble. It's the best part of it all. The best part. Okay, I do want to talk about one thing that you mentioned Andrew, which is the sapphire crystal thing. Because I do think that that's kind of it's interesting that they're using better materials. Wait, that's and I've been trying to find the answer to this. They never once said it was a sapphire crystal. They said it's new sapphire glass. Is that something that they dreamed up? You know, like their, you know, supposedly this year is going to have a glass screen and it was still plastic. years ago, or is it actual lab created sapphire cut crystal? That I want to find out the answer to. Not that it makes any difference, but at the very least, in the presentation yesterday, on the pro, it does say sapphire crystal display. Okay. I don't know about the regular though. I'm trying to look back at my screenshot. I'm looking at it's in the hands on. On the back of the watch, the watch 5 pro in the hands on article in the watch 5 that's in my hand. It says sapphire crystal at the top. Above the sensors. Okay. Then you know it's hard, hard, hard. Yeah, I mean, that's the hope anyways. Yeah, 'cause I think every smartwatch I have is scratched. Like literally everyone. I just scratched my series 7 last week taking stuff to the dump. I have scratched them before putting my seat belt on 'cause I rubbed it up against the side. I'm just like, are you kidding me? It's ridiculous. Anyway. I think I made a comment about that too. Like hitting my wrist on the outside of the truck getting out to go the top. Is this too easy to do?

"Okay, welcome back. Obviously, we're not done with Samsung because we have so much to cover. I want to go back to Andrew's article, which was published this morning. It's Thursday, August 11th. The title of his article is why I'm trading the galaxy watch four classic for the watch 5 pro. And this is funny because Andrew, I'm not making fun of you, Android. I love you. You're a wonderful. I've read you're probably wondering like, this guy is the most indecisive person because on the one hand, he'll say, the pixel watch is going to make me switch over from iPhone to everything Google, and now he's upgraded to a watch 5 pro. So let's talk about it. Thanks for that. Okay, well, tell us your reasons if you want. But more so I want to know why you've decided to upgrade to the watch 5 program. Because you've already gotten it, right? Oh, no, not the pro. I got the regular 5 because I don't run. Unlike Michael and Chris and Nick, my workouts consist of moving to a new house, and then getting up to walk outside and come back in. And to be fair, actually, Michael also moved into a new house. So I mean, I don't know.

No, but it was funny because I think it was just an ad. You know how, you know how at the end of the presentation they always do. All of the devices and stuff. Yeah. "I mean, aspect ratio and all that in just a hardware in general. It's not a huge difference. The slimmer hinge is quite nice. It's probably a little more obvious for people who have used a fold two or three. You're going to pick it up and go, oh yeah, I can tell this is thinner. The screen on the outside is bigger. So far I haven't had the ghost typing issue that I have on the three where if my thumbs get too close, it'll do like a swipe type just because it just doesn't stink and narrow. Big thumbs. That's it. That's the end result of that. Whatever. Gosh, I don't even know what I was gonna say now. Big thumbs up over here. What am I doing? Are you just staring at your thumbs now? That's it, exactly. Taskbar, that's where my brain was going. Okay, so I guess the true potential thing, right? For me was that dedicated taskbar on the bottom. You could do this in good luck before and kind of mess with it a little bit, but it wasn't quite this well done. So it's when you unfold it to the big screen, you have a now dedicated sort of desktop like taskbar. You've got like a little button on the bottom left that will open a menu and it shows all of your apps, just like a start menu on Windows or whatever. You have apps that you can pin on the bottom so you can quickly open them. It also shows your last couple of apps that you've opened so you can quick switch between them. And then that also allows you to tap an icon and drag it to a corner of the screen to quickly split the screen. And this basically addresses a lot of little things that I wanted to see on the three. And I just, in the last day, day and a half of using it, I've been using that bar a lot, and I really, really like it.

"When a creator, I mean, I'm sure there are many creators out there who will do their research and find the right camera and whatever. But there's also a lot of people who get enamored by something like this. They see the presentation and they're like, oh my God, this looks so cool. This looks like I see that, but I just don't see how anything stands out to make this special for creators. I mean, you guys would reach it when you said it's got a built in kickstand. That's all you could come up with. Come on. Well, okay, so at least in the last year, right? With us using the flip three, my wife's been using it full time for the last year. I can't tell you how many times we have used this in what they call flex mode, whatever you bend it at a 90° angle. And you set it on something. Like, it's just, it's nice to have that compact nature. Like, it's amazing what that will do for, you know, camera angles and things like that. Yes, you could go buy a kickstand case, but absolutely agree with you for you or me. I can see how for us that that's perfect. You can just sit it on the coffee table or a fence post something that's great. But if you're a full-time creator, you know, I can think there's a whole lot of other better options for you out there. Probably. And I know I need to test the camera on this one to see if they basically said aside from general sensor improvements. They said this one has better stabilization and tracking and other things like that that would also be attractive to creators. But that's what I thought yesterday when they talking about, you know, I don't think they actually use the word creator, but they alluded to it over and over.

It happened on Wednesday and we also tested a live blog for the first time and that's still alive. So if you guys haven't checked it out, make sure you do there's a lot of contributors on it and we've been having a lot of fun with it. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves Avoided Sex to Save Their Friendship

"Sandy Bullock admitted that she and Keanu Reeves never had sex because they both agreed they didn't want to ruin a friendship. And then I was always the kind of guy who didn't worry about the friendship and just went ahead and had sex and I would convince girls we're always going to be Friends. And you know what? I always stayed friendly. So it worked. I was right. But Sandra and Keanu met on the set of speed. It was 1994. My career was taken off and they had mutual friends. They had the same agent and they would get drinks together sometimes after Hollywood events. It was a wonderful time to be young and full of possibilities in Hollywood, but Sandra said in an esquire magazine article that even though they drank booze together it never led to sex. And she said, you know, Keanu is a guy who I feel like his friends with every woman he's ever dated, and I don't think there's anyone who has anything horrible to say about him. So maybe we could have survived, I don't know, but we didn't have to survive anything. We just get to grow up together on parallel roads and tip our hats and meet for dinner and try to work together. And the longer time goes on, the more in all I am of the human being, what I have been able to say that if I had dumped if he had dumped me and made me angry, probably not. I think she was missing the whole point that he would have been a great guy to be with.

Let's take a quick break and we will be right back and we're back and the break was an adventure So a couple things. We have to tell you guys for for necessary background. Is that a truth. Hounds actually started out as a show called. There's something about mr reads. That was one of the funniest things we'd ever heard. It's kyle and anna. Basically kyle finding out about kiana reads like years after everybody else but like of developing this obsession and then it it kind of unfolds where everybody has like an incredible story that like ten generally relates to keanu reeves and during the break a super producer justin Had one such story as we were talking about just kind of generally the mystique of keanu reeves Justin you wanna come in and share with the audience. Yeah sure so. My dad and his older brother were members of a ban on news magazine in chicago. The played with a lot of pretty a big people in their time in the seventies and eighties and the nineties. My uncle was just playing rooms. Trying to link up with any ban. You could get a gig with and one of those bands was keanu reeves bands and the best part about it was. He would be up there. Shy guy very very humble down to earth and he would you spend most of his time alone before just sitting there relaxing in the corner of the room and as soon as they went up to play the entire broom were just like magnetically shift over two keanu reeves and the rest of his poor bandmates would be playing to a mostly empty room while everyone was just staring at kiawah. Rats and kiana is the basis. He's not. He's not the driver or at the the singer at the center of stage. So it's just like everybody's in the corner of the room just watching kiato reeves and here is just looking at his. He's looking at his instrument. Just end the zone. Everyone's just throwing a fit for this guy and the rest of his band is just playing their heart out to no one. It's it's so sad but it's a lovely story. That's who has that kind of magnus isn't the kinda yeah you why not ignore everyone else and focus on the universal constant that he would probably feel bad about that. He's such a good guy that from our findings that he would probably like tonight. Yeah he'd be like no guy whole really sorry. Give it up for treasury guys. He's really doing his best up here. You probably go behind the other band. Members subject.

Alex Winter on how he and Keanu Reeves brought George Carlin's touching cameo to 'Bill & Ted Face the Music' (spoilers!)

"Jesse Thorn. Our guest is Alex Winter you probably know him best as bill from bill and Ted along with Keanu reeves he starred in bill and Ted's excellent adventure bill and Ted's bogus journey and the brand new movie bill and Ted face the music. Alex is also a director who's made several documentaries. His latest just came out a couple of months ago it's called show biscuits. It features interviews with former child stars about how their time working in the entertainment industry affected them. Let's get back to the conversation. There's a lot in this in this movie also about parenthood and the ties that bind to their and in particular how children kind of actualize the dreams of their parents in some ways for good and bad. I saw that theme also and show Biz kids. Your documentary that made me wonder if you saw parallel there to do you find that particularly compelling. I was raised by two artists. My parents were modern dancers. My mom had company in London, which is where I was born in my dad ultimately had a company in the Midwest. which is still going on when we moved to the states house quite young. I started out as a child actor professionally by like nine or ten I was working professionally by twelve thirteen I was in two long running probably shows back-back. Took me all the way into college so. My relationship to. My parents and to my family and the complexity of that and this idea of I wouldn't call destiny. That's the sort of of the movies that. But you know this idea of expectation and what is your life supposed to be, and of course, it's never going to be that and it shouldn't be that and and and how do the children affects the parents? How do the parents affect the children and of course now I'm a dad and so how'd now it's a triple layer cake right And Those are all those drams or fusing together and crazy ways and I had really wanted to make a film that allowed people who had experienced this firsthand meaning people that come up as child actors. I wanted them to be able to express the very nuanced layers of of that experience. Intimately I just had not seen that done and I had. you know obviously had done it myself in private, but I'd never kind of attacked at. So you that was very satisfying to be able to make and it was really odd to try to make show Biz because for the first time about ten years ago I couldn't find financing and it was exactly the concept. So it was very very strange to. Lovely. But strange to start making the film, shoot a bunch of interviews go away, make bill and Ted be dealing with you know Ted's problems with his dad our issues with our daughters live and our destiny that didn't end up the way it was supposed to in how did that impact everybody and you know, and then of course, like acting for the first time gangs I left act the acting business in after doing Dylan Ted to really Very consciously, and so acting again and I'm making a movie about child actors about parents and their children and it was it was like Oh did this all really need to happen at once was that necessary? I my Gosh. Every aspect of my entire life right now. So Yeah it was lovely and heavy Frankly yeah. Tell me about that decision to kind of I. Think you said, disappear for a minute and then come back and be doing more behind the scenes work than acting. Well. We talk about it in in show Biz kids and it's really not uncommon. It's. It's you know I had started acting I had a very, very public life from around ten years old to about twenty five on nonstop even through college. I was still acting on TV and doing commercials and TV shows. Nonstop and after bill and Tattoo amid and other film called freaked I was just psychologically. I was just worn out and I knew. That I was not I had some friends around me that were crashing hard at a couple that actually died. It was a pretty heavy scene. For Lot of us that had come up because we're all around the same age. So a lot of us were trying to transition from from you know sort of youth in the business too young adult business. We're not having the best time of it and and at the same time I gone to film school and was very very committed to my work as a writer director But it you know for me, I needed to make a conscious decision to get out of the public eye and just go live some normal life and I didn't feel like I'd really gotten to do that through pretty. Formative Adolescence and postal license and. Evan Rachel Wood speaks about this really well in the in the movie sodas will we? All everyone had the same experience I was sitting across from Diana Kerry, the hundred year old woman who was baby peggy, and she literally laid out my entire life story was completely jaw dropping. And that's what had happened to her when she had to really figure life out and she had to get away from the business and. And just be in the world and that's what I did I left. I left my acting representation and I moved and started a production company in London and I just shot commercials and wrote scripts and had a kid and live like regular Joe and. Got My head together and did some growing up and when I felt comfortable again, I started training again to act that was a while ago I just wanted to act for myself I didn't WanNA act. NAFTA, worry about it for paycheck I trained for a long time and it was just coincidentally had started kind of rumble back into life. But it was really lovely. It was a great way to come back can't owner. He's like, what am I, very, very dearest and closest friends in the world and. Everyone on that sat was family and if they weren't, they were really gracious and very happy to be there. So it was extremely sweet environment to step back into but Yeah, it was fun. But I I guess I needed the twenty five year break I I took it.

Linda and also with us from his home in Washington DC, we have JC Howard who is a producer of NPR's Ted Radio Hour and how I built this I. J. C.. Good to have you back good to have you back. So if you are all not familiar, there's not a lot setup that you need or these films except to say that Bill and Ted were introduced to us as teenage bro Friends who had a band and just wanted to have a triumphant band when they were older and eventually they got sucked into time travel and picking up different historical figures, and later we're going to try to save the world and there was. A whole story where they were going to ultimately right a great and triumphant song it's it is a surprisingly complex canonical story of which you need to know practically nothing in order to enjoy I think these films Stephen now that I have thoroughly set the table kind of what is your attachment to bill and Ted these movies. If you have one, well, I've seen bill and Ted's excellent adventure. A BUNCH OF TIMES I've seen bill and Ted's bogus journey a couple times. These are movies that have kind of existed on the wind for the last thirty years. I re watched these movies within the last five years I. Think I talked about the. What's making me happy on this show but still kind of needed to go back to be reminded of what happens in them going into this movie I mean this movie is coasting on goodwill. There is a certain amount of fan service going on here. I mean I'm not sure how many people were clamoring to revisit these characters almost thirty years later but at the same time. Something really really smart happens in this movie and you can tell before you even start watching it, and that is that it is ninety three minutes long all three of these movies are about ninety minutes long and I think they understand that that is the perfect lengthier. There is a certain amount of sequel bloat here. The first two movies are incredibly Chintzy. The stakes in the first one are no greater than maybe Ted we'll get sent to military school and you're there's like the entire fabric of space time can be ripped apart. This is a very shaggy movie. I. Think there are stretches where it sags but. I do appreciate the number of updates. You don't have the gay panic stuff that really dragged down the earlier movies are no gay slurs in this movie. This movie bothers to give its female characters a little bit more agency the women who become their wives barely have any part to play in the other movies, and here you get more of that you get their daughters who are given kind of their own subplot. So I appreciate that it's not just rattling around with these two dudes who are now middle aged, but they're taking an interest in people outside of just bill. Yeah and you do get their daughters. The structure of this one is kind of that they go on one journey through time and their daughters meanwhile who are played by Samara weaving and bridget lending pain go off and tried to get a band together for their DADS to play with on this epoch song that's supposed to save the world. So you kind of have the one journey going on the other journey going on then naturally in the third act it all comes together and I did like those two performances from the daughter's there are also some kind of new faces in this one kristen Schall plays Kelly who is The daughter of Rufus who was the George Carlin character in the original JC it feels to me like you are too young to have a moustache attachment to these movies but I have been assured that that is not the case because television. Yeah. That's exactly right. I was actually super excited to hear this movie was happening and I'm going to show my age a little bit and say that I was born pretty close to the release of the First Bill and Ted Movie of Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. So my first encounter with these guys was as as they say a most impressionable youth. And I was one of what I can only assume are millions of kids who watch bill and Ted's excellent adventure every time it ran on cable TV. The thing about the first movie is the problem that they needed to solve was very simple. Billon Tade just needed a good grade right granted the solution to that problem was a little larger than life and included doctor who like time travel home box and all but the problem itself was simple. The second movie bogus journey was certainly a little nuttier. It had killer robots and aliens and the grim reaper. Didn't feel like it hit quite the right notes for me. No Pun intended. So win a third film was confirmed. The main question I had was like, what are they going to do? Are they going to try to recreate the success of the original and go back to simple run of the mill time travel Orlean into the bizarre and crazy and from just the trailer? It was clear that they weren't going to just lean into the bizarre, but they were diving in head first. But I think what separated this one from the nineteen ninety one sequel is that it has a lot more heart. The original movie was really about the friendship of bill and Ted and saving that they didn't seem to care as much about saving the future as much as they wanted to just make sure that bill and Ted could still just be friends. So it had this kind of surprisingly earnest quality and I think that was what was missing in the second film in this third one for all of its bizarreness in all of its doubling down on death in heaven and hell, and all these kinds of weird things. It really reignites the idea that there are friendships and. Relationships here that are worth saving. Yeah I think you're absolutely right that they go back to the relationship between those two guys being the center of the story and I. Think it's really funny. One of the things that I think is featured in some of the the trailer stuff but they are both married they both have you know lovely wives that you have met before since they got them from the past and they have relationships with their wives that are completely enmeshed with their relationship with each other. So they can't conceive of having individual marriages that aren't some. Like a four person marriage I thought that stuff was sort of funny because I think one of the things that carries over like if you're going to take these guys in age them thirty years you have to either assume that at some point they became more normal, which is a weird thing to assume about bill and Ted. Or you have to assume that they are still very bill and Ted, which would mean that they are still kind of very fixated on this idea that they are a duo and they are always together and they are each other's right hand Glenn you had indicated on twitter that. You perhaps did not have the same nostalgia for these characters that perhaps I have and others may have what is your take care? All right. The ticker about to hear from me Linda Holmes is going to be a subjective it's rigorous. It's clear eyed it is on demand by the gauzy scream nostalgia because unlike all y'all I never saw these movies until this week just to prepare for the show and I didn't see him for very simple reason I didn't have to I. Mean I was a junior in college nineteen, eighty, nine I was studying marine biology. I was dating a string of profoundly unfulfilled women and. Being. On a college campus and eighty nine and not here boobs heinous strange things are afoot at the circle k just over and over and over. So I felt like I got it. And think about the time late eighties early nineties mainstream. American. Comedy was kind of stuck in this catchphrase based mode and I was like, okay. I don't need to see this while I've seen them all now and I'm here to tell you. Sure I guess that's your thing. I like the Guy Listeners of the leads I. think that's the appeal here but left only once an excellent adventure. It's a visual gag that gets tossed off. It's a Freud at a mall holding a corn dog and it's like, okay, fine. You got me I mean it's low hanging fruit, but you got. And in face the music this new film shore on Paper Samara, Weaving Kristen Schaal Holland freaking Taylor they are gunning for me they are coming. But ultimately didn't stick. It's not supposed to. That's not what it's for. It just evaporates on contact with the eyeballs and maybe that's exactly what the world needs. Right now is dumb sweep dumb but I

Michael Jordan, Keanu Reeves And Emile Hirsch discussed on Collider Movie Talk

"So apparently the matrix matrix for it is happening variety reports that loud on what caskey will write and direct a fourth matrix movie with kiana ribs and carrie ann moss reprising their roles so given all the rumors circulating about the matrix. I was surprised to hear this especially given the ending of revolution. So what do do you think about this news. Where could they possibly go with the story. Now i gotta let coin ready for this movie. It's okay in one thousand nine hundred nine twenty years ago. They foretold how ominous technology was gonna be. That movie was so prophetic and now we're living in an age where we often often don't know what's real and what's simulation whether or not you go to burning man. There's a very zatarain surreal quality to what reality is because of fakes because of technology. We've been overcome by technology technology in real life and now there is the perfect time to make the matrix four to retroactively fix the matrix two and three which could have been one very good movie rumor was i heard this this was back in the early two thousands that the animatrix and the matrix two and three it was supposed to be a trilogy but they wanted to do one before the matrix one after the matrix but because of the star wars. I don't know if this is true. Through warner brothers like no no no so they made the animatrix and then they split two and three into two movies but it should have just been one and that's why this movie's filled up loaded. I don't know if that's true but now they can fix that the matrix is more timely than ever keanu reeves is back in another hot streak carrying moscow's incredible and jessica jones. I love the idea of. I don't know why it's it's one which hausky but i love the idea of original crater coming back to a franchise that actually changed cinema. The first matrix is one question for you though so so. I think you use the word retroactively we're. We're talking a lot about ret cons lately but we were talking about something even before the show started that i think might be important to point out here when you say you know do things retroactively ret con whatnot. You're not talking about necessarily just like wiping the slate clean and saying this never happened. You're talking about adding it <unk> adding to it enhancing it. I haven't watched them in years. I've watched the first one planning but the second to there's an entire sequence if i remember correctly with the architect where there's a bunch of nieto's what easier franchise to fix than one where there's that many reality is easier. It's a movie about coding recode. The damn matrix is right there. So all you needed was the people that want it and the technology to catch up to make it different enough to make it worth making and the talent and we got all that in this announcement one of my very favorite things in this announcement is a quote and it says many of the ideas lilly and i explored twenty years ago about our reality are or even more relevant net lake more relevant now. That is the key terms phrase whatever that suggests that this franchise is worth bringing back. I could tell your super into into whatever <hes> was pitching this now well. It's just something i'm really passionate this year in general and storytelling is all the use of parallel realities alternate timelines justice that is also in any property and immediate fixture problem like it's not annoying. It's interesting it's exciting and and this is a- an ideal property to do that with you have to you we also have seen so with halloween. You can go that didn't happen and people will be okay with it. It's totally fine but by incorporating these sort of parallel words or re recoding as you said you don't have to do that you can satisfy both realities without pissing off a fair legion of fans who probably would be like what we saw that happen. It's real may chase recorded voted well. The thing is we say glitch in the matrix in everyday vernacular expression yeah a glitch in the matrix console all three and four we can actually go back and have a deja vu black cat experience and that's exciting and canneries doesn't age. It's very convenient. I that was one of the the biggest things about the story just seeing that the two of them are back but also we only get one which hausky this time which i find very interesting just curious. What do you guys make of that. I mean it is an interesting scenario that you hope is not in any way negative. The fact that lily was mentioned in the press release speaks well and the fact that they've worked together for like forty years see. We looked quite peacefully. I maybe lillies busy. Maybe she feels done with the story. You know there's a lot lot of possible reasons for that but it's it's interesting from a creative perspective if if that is solely lana on her own that i'm curious to see okay how the world might feel different when it's just one mind sort of creating this time around what's interesting to me is is that in conjunction with how many incredible creators came out of the matrix as we have like the john wick team and so many people that we now have directing their own work whether or not they come back to be like first a._d. Or any sort of second unit what the assemblage blue-chip the matrix is because we only have one which hausky instead of the pair so i'm really curious what the movie feels like and we'll be able to tell it's one of them instead of the pair of them because we've only seen them work together to my knowledge. I don't think i've ever seen a single hausky film. I think you're right. I i did like tried to double. Check really fascinating. There's always i'm <music>. I'm an apologist for a lot of their people. Don't like like i'm a big fan of what was the one about the the true through tom hanks. I liked that movie. I the credits of cloud atlas. They reveal who everybody played. Yeah i mean look. I like all of their movies yeah right up on the second for jupiter island because i love that speed racer summons emile hirsch whenever speed racer sir is trending. Emile hirsch was like yes. I'm here in tweets but like speed racer is one of those cult following. I think it came out six months too soon. The world wasn't quite ready for speed racer and the matrix four or is. I hope this is a movie that blows our minds because what they did with bullet time in ninety nine changed things. I can't wait to see what they can do. Twenty years later technology. I'm also curious are as has she says it's more relevant but also our relationship to technology has changed entirely in those decades and i'm very curious what the perspective on it is if it's still the the same. Is there any part of the movie where it's like now. We gotta plug back in the ass plugged in now. I know well. That's what's interesting is ninety nine i. I don't maybe i'm wrong but i don't think phones had internet like or if they did. It was rudimentary pretty average folks. I don't mind texting back marrow's still playing snake on nokia that point and you're doing like corey keyboard texting yeah. I was eleven so i don't remember who had i didn't have internet so what we are now. Now is such a different animal than what that movie represented them but you can watch the matrix now and it doesn't feel old yeah when you watch the matrix the first one it doesn't feel dated so i can't wait to see what they do with the world catching catching up to the reality of the already made. Maybe i'm just i'm afraid to see what they're about to foretell about the future sickly the way they did with the last one hundred forty nine the matrix man. That's a very fair concern very very. I want to know but i'm not sure if i want a fair concern that speaks to how rich this opportunity entity is because it's very exciting because we talk about you know reboot sequels franchises continuing you know twenty years after the last movie came out you name it and we're always like well you repeating something like does this just seems like a really again rich opportunity to continue a popular franchise where you're basically justifying it in the pillars of the franchise itself so i'm pumped and for me. It doesn't doesn't feel like where we have like. Indiana jones nineteen where they're like inventing a new story. The matrix said the video game the animatrix and the two sequels this rich world. They've already built up that they probably had other ideas for or and had ideas for the last twenty. Here's a here's a question from the live chat briefly from who rang who's writing. What does what does it mean for michael jordan. He was mentioned to star matrix matrix reboot. Maybe plays morpheus as son but really quickly before you guys even answer that it was making me think <hes> oddly enough off. I am more into the idea of another matrix movie with keanu coming back with a movie basically being pitched as matrix four rather than getting what we were originally talking about about you know just prequels and different offshoots as much as i like michael jordan i kind of hope that that is done and it's gone and they just move move forward as we were just discussing here. I mean i might be remembering incorrectly but i believe that had a different writer attached they did yeah sounds like a pretty the different project i have no problem whatsoever with michael jordan being in this movie because he's phenomenal and that would be great casting if they want to keep that one little nugget of that project alive. I do please yeah but it sounds that they're pretty separate at least from what the reports read like yeah to me. This is a separate property but if he's on the radar is on the radar so then it's a good thing and it's warner brothers so michael. Jordan is very much on their radar so it's a great opportunity to clarify. I'll take michael jordan anything. It's just when i first read the read the the news or a rumor at that point that that's what they were exploring. I'm like okay but then i hear something like what we're talking about right now and that's the hook. That's how you get me back in. I agree i. I don't think a reboot released spoke to me but hearing the story evolved from an original creator really speaks to the original team for the team sending

"Ferrari releases. No, meme, November fifteenth later this year starring Christian bale Matt Damon believe it's based on a book and pretty highly anticipated I was curious what the reaction would be. Like we tweeted, the trailer reaction was huge automobile magnets. Henry Ford, and Lee is it coca I KoKo, yet dispatch a team of engineers and designers to build a car to race against Ferrari at the nineteen sixty six lemons, I guess, say it 'cause you bail LeMond is that makes more sense Christian bale as Ken miles, Matt Damon has Carroll Shelby. They're in it. They're the two big stars that took got people very excited on Twitter yesterday, and on Instagram like shit Damon bail on excited. James Mangold is directing. It's really just overall. This is first movie since Logan, by the way, overall just toward a force of people things you wanna see with this movie. It's like one of the first FOX things at Disney's releasing, well, actually like second or third because I've tarp FINA comes out this week, but very excited. So they briefly considered Sandra Bullock in the role. Okay. That would have been super grade. Okay. Black. Bill and Ted's next excellent adventure: A 2020 sequel

"All right. You wanna you want great eighties movie Bill and Ted's excellent adventure? Classic Keanu Reeves Alex winter. And by the way. The third Bill and Ted movie is being made right now it's going into production right now as we speak. And that's some of the finest cinematic news in the history of anything. Yeah. Bill and Ted's excellent adventure was kind of a movie that came out of nowhere. You know? It was a low budget movie, and nobody expected it to to to do the business. It did not only did it do great business. But it's become a classic. And I think Bill and Ted's excellent adventure is one of those quintessential great surprise movies from the eighties that you just didn't expect and it turned out to be really really terrific. I prefer the sequel. Which is not an eighties movie that came out in ninety one. I prefer the sequel, I think Bill and Ted's bogus journey is funnier. And I think almost all of that has to do with William Sadler who plays death every scene in bogus journey, featuring the character of death is hilarious. Is hilarious. So but Bill and Ted. Excellent adventure. Classic.

Incredible Benefits of Leaving Your Phone Out of Your Bedroom, Stopping Time

"Today. You learn about what would happen if you could actually stop time, scientifically speaking, the incredible benefits of leaving your phone out of your bedroom and one of our favorite scientific discoveries of the year, a new world beyond Pluto. Let's discover some curiosity, you know, how some superheroes and super villains can stop time. Well, it turns out the real world effects of stopping time wouldn't be very practical. But there are pretty fun way. To learn about physics say I loved this article. Yeah. Me too. I loved writing it. I'm really big into time stopping because I played a lot of mega man to and I was little flash man is iconic. Really good music too. Yeah. Actually, you helps me with this article. 'cause I was like what's an example of a time where you stop time, and you're like mega man, I remember and then time stopped, and I thought to myself now is my chance. Anyway, good before we get into this. Let's define what we mean. By stopping time. We're talking about when you stop time for everything, but you of TV shows or movies where everything's frozen and a character walks around moving stuff, Adam Sandler and click Keanu Reeves in the matrix stuff. Like that will for the Stephen work you need to account for every molecule of fluid and air inside and outside of your body. If you're able to move around then we have to assume the molecules inside you can move around too. And if the air and the rest of the room stopped experiencing time, then every molecule would stay suspended precisely in the same location. So you wouldn't be able to move because you'd be trapped in a prison of air molecules. So let's say the time keeps flowing normally for the molecules near your body and beyond that time standstill. All right. Well, there's still a problem as you listen to this particles of light called photons are traveling at the speed of well, light, obviously into your eyes. You're also hearing this podcast at the speed of sound through. The air as pressure waves that eventually get your ears to vibrate. Your eardrums these stop time than all light and sound would stop to which might leave you instantly deaf and blind. Not super helpful, right? Okay. Let's say that any photons said it already been omitted from a source like a lightbulb your cell phone or the sun. Let's say that those photons got to keep traveling. Okay. Well, then you've got anywhere from a fraction of a second to a full eight minutes where you could still see, but we want unlimited time. So let's not stop it completely instead of stopping it. What if you slowed it to a crawl well that wouldn't work either? When he slowed down electromagnetic waves for light and pressure waves for sound you get waves of a lower frequency, but at a low frequency you'd hear sounds that dropped below the range of human hearing and light at a lower frequency moves into the infrared microwave and radio waves realm. So you wouldn't be able to see that either. In the end, maybe the ability to stop time is one of those superpowers in the. The be careful what you wish for category like reading thoughts and turning everything you touch into gold still who said science fiction can't help us. Learn about science today. Curiosity wrote about a new study, and we've got some really bad news. If you're a dicta- dear phone, oh, no participants in this study, you kept their smartphones out of the bedroom for one week showed a marks improvement in their happiness and overall quality of life. Wow. I'm not done. The also showed fewer signs of smartphone addiction, plus many of the participants reported that they slept better experienced less anxiety and improve their relationships more than ninety percent of the participants. Who did this said they might keep it up? I can't imagine being a person that would say they'd keep it up because I can't imagine being in person that would even do that. Okay. So I do have a suggestion for breaking the habit. Okay. And I learned in college that when you change a habit you have to replace it with something. Right. So you can't just stop doing a thing without replacing it with. Sure, obviously, you can swap out your phone for a book. It turns out that when you sleep after you learn something new you're able to remember it better later anyway. So if you're reading nonfiction book or a philosophy book, then you're gonna process that more, which is really cool. Here's another life hack on a more personal level my wife realizes the I'm really into gadgets. So like, I like Nintendo switch, and I like, my gaming PC's, and I just like techy stuff. So she got me an e reader she got me a kindle now. I've got a gadget I can bring the bed. Right. But at the same time also reading a book, so it's kind of like cheating. So if you at home are sleeping with someone. Who's tech obsessed like me, then get them in ear, and it'll even let you read in the dark, depending on the model like if it's got a back light, just don't use a tablet anything that emits blue light will actually disturb your sleep rights or there's a couple of suggestions. Do you have any reader? I don't you know, I've been wanting to read more books, and I use my phone too much. It seems like a simple fix all do it. I'm saying it right now on the podcast. I'm going to leave my phone out of my room when I sleep for the next week. I will check back in a week or two. All right. Today's episode is sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Everyone knows about the risks of driving drunk. You get in a crash people would get hurt or killed. But let's take a moment to look at some surprising statistics almost twenty nine people in the United States die every day in alcohol, impaired vehicle crashes. That's one person every fifty minutes. Even though drunk driving fatalities have fallen by a third in the last three decades drunk driving crashes still claim more than ten thousand lives each year drunk driving can have a big impact on your wallet to you could get arrested and encourage huge legal expenses. For example, you could possibly even lose your job. So what can you do to prevent drunk driving plant a safe ride home before you start drinking designate, a sober driver or call a taxi if someone you know has been drinking take their keys at arranged for them to get sober ride home. We all know the consequences of driving drunk, but one thing is for sure you're wrong. If you think it's no big deal. Drive sober or get pulled over. Astronomers have just discovered a new planet beyond Pluto, really not burying the lead hero we. Nope. This discovery hasn't been published in a peer reviewed journal yet. But the astronaut journal is considering the paper submission that talks about this discovery. And we found this planet by accident when we're looking for a different planet. So let's back up in two thousand sixteen. Astronomers got the idea that there might be a planet about as big as Neptune somewhere far away in our solar system. They call this world planet nine and astronomers all over have been looking for it. Nobody's found it yet. But it's probably worth remembering that spaces, you know, kind of big. So it might take years and years of searching before we confirm that planet nine exists. And in the meantime, we've found another tiny world out there. It's officially called twenty fifteen t g three eight seven, but astronomers took the T G part and ran with it. So they gave it the nickname. The goblin. The goblin is a dwarf planet that orbits the sun eighty times further away than earth one trip around the sun on the goblin would take about forty thousand years that's one long year. I mean, the last time the goblin was where it is now in its pather on the sun, we hadn't even invented civilization, let alone telescopes or spacecraft, but check this out even though we didn't find planet nine the goblin might tell us a lot about our solar system a straw. Owners ransom simulations of the goblin while assuming a planet the size of Neptune or a super earth was also out there long story short. It looks like if planet nine did exist than it actually shepherded the goblin along its orbit, in fact, planet nines gravitational influence might keep a bunch of distant worlds far away from it. Would you avoid the chance of a nasty collision? And here's another cool thing. There are other dwarf planets in the zone where we found the goblin these little worlds all travel in their own zone far away from the main massive our solar system where you find the eight planets closest to the sun that you know, in love taken together at the orbits of these dwarf worlds. Could be a powerful argument that planet nine is a real thing. Now, again, the planet's discovery is still waiting for peer review, but it could have big implications. And it's a good reminder that space is pretty big. So don't ever feel like looking up at the skies a waste of time unless you're staring at the sun don't do that to these stories and more on curiosity dot com to in this again Sunday as we recap a few.
