"katz" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"Is from the lane train. He is he's not backing down. This came out today. Free popcorn. I five thousand fans He is kiffin credit. Everybody slammed him. he's embracing it. And i think that's why. He is a lovable character. Michael katz covers the rebels in mississippi. And it is a pleasure to welcome you to our program michael. Thank you for being here. I've heard from a lot of your friends today. So you obviously You're you're you're you're prominence goes deep in southern sportswriting circles. How are you. i'm good. How are you doing all i. We're doing great. And i wanna ask you want to start with kiffin because every not everyone. But a lot of the national media unloaded on him after the popcorn line. I didn't get it. I didn't understand the criticism. And i mean the mic the mic drop was maybe unnecessary and maybe his answer or explanation about the game about to start. Possibly the game would have started without him but anyway It seemed like he was just speaking the truth. How do you think he's handled all that in the aftermath. I think as as well as as you can handle it You now he had fun with it. And i think that was really important for him to do he. You know he he. He was asked about it the next press conference and i think overall he he did handle it pretty well You know it was something he should have done. I don't know. I mean. I thought it was in good fun personally. I think that the sort of the walk away with the You know throwing of the headset tossing gentle. Toss of the headset was was a little bit weird. But i don't. i don't think it was offensive. I think to an extensive. It was blown a little bit out of proportion. But as you know lane kiffin to lightning rod and people tend to find ways to Kinda bring him in and maybe bringing down they can michael. I'm sure you've heard this around that building. But the point that kiffin defenders have made is the fact that the players were in the locker room. This was not something you say on monday. That's on the bulletin board that affects the game. Nope none of those players knew what he was talking about. And it was just a it was just a throwaway line but lane kiffin is a lightning rod. So i i asked you this before. We even get to the game this weekend. What does he like to cover. You know it's it's it's interesting because you know full disclosure. I'm from southern california so he He was actually the usc coach. When i was a reporter at and that was a good ten years or so ago nuts. It's crazy how it goes full circle but you know he's he's different than he was but he still kind of is what he is. He doesn't love you. Know doing the daily media thing he he plays a pretty close to the vest. But i think thing with him is that he's having more fun with with it now and i think he's a lot more comfortable with who he is You know if you remember see. That wasn't always the case. And you know. I don't know how many coaches handle criticism super well but i think He he's he's gotten a lot better at it and you know he's got a couple of good zingers here and there. You know the popcorn stuff ten years ago. I don't know if he handles it. That well He's he's definitely difference cover than he was. Would you like to. Maybe a you know. Be a little bit more cheery Every once in a while but overall he's actually been pretty good. Well let's go back to that again in the context of this is your reporter is you were a student reporter. You aren't a professional. And he was at a pressure. Cooker like sec. Where the walls were literally coming down around him. Go back to that point His last year there was twenty. Third team what what what what would you say was the is the biggest difference between kiffin and now i think he can laugh at himself and he does that. I think we see mostly on on twitter He's very active on their as you know he. He's okay taking a jab kind of in the joke on there I don't know how many people take that well in person and you know it's not like you're gonna take those things as well in person as he takes them online. But i think ten years ago. I don't know if he would be having fun with You know the popcorn thing or The microwave comment and he had saying that we forgot to plug it in I don't think he does that ten years ago. I think he's he's he's he's matured in the sense that he's comfortable with himself and I don't know if i could have said that you know in in my last year. Sc was twenty twelve. That was seven six season or like you said the walls were kind of coming down. i don't i don't think he he would have been in that sort of space back. Then michael what's the mood in that community How how the fan. How did the other students react to lane kiffin. I think they love him. I think that he has brought a sort of enthusiasm and excitement to this program that you know it. They really needed You know the matt luke. Years matt luke by all accounts was a really great guy on but he didn't really get people excited about the program and hugh freeze that people excited about the program but You know. I think lane. This of made ole miss cool again you know. He's he's extremely online savvy with social media He's he's he. Has you know like i said the zinger here and there. I think people really gravitate towards that. And you know he's he. Kinda has a cool factor in i. I don't remember him having the cool factor when he was a when he was at usc but now he he just seems like a guy that people really kinda wanna go to bat for people in this community of really. I think really embrace them. You know obviously you know. Winning games helps if they if they start losing a bunch that that that changes maybe but just the brand football the exciting offense You know how the guy. Like matt corral come from southern kid obviously. He was recruited iran. But just have that. Kind of a guy You know that sort of a personality I i just think it's all just been such a good fit So far michael cats with us. Of course covers the team and Michael let's talk a little bit about this game and the importance of it. I think it's celtics self evident that a win here and is really going to propel the winner of this game into major position in the sec..

The History of Neighborhood Witches in America

"Superstition was common in the late. Sixteen hundreds if something odd or unexplainable happened the automatic response from most people was to blame the supernatural but most scholars agree that these beliefs were merely excuses to help people deal with neighbors and family members that they didn't care for if you didn't like somebody. It was common to accuse them of witchcraft. In the most famous historical example of this the witch trials of salem massachusetts. We can see a clear pattern in the events. Many of those accused of being witches were wealthy and held religious beliefs. That were different from their accusers. Wants a subject was convicted. Their estate would be confiscated by the court and in a community that was known for property disputes grazing rights and religious arguments. That became a recipe for disaster. And what happened in salem happened. Elsewhere around new england just on a smaller scale neighbors accused neighbors constantly. Stories were told. Lives were ruined. It was the way of things. I suppose not ideal but also not uncommon in one story from exeter rhode island. A farmer was said to have been carting his lumber to market when a cat ran across the road for some unknown reason. This farmer immediately jumped to the conclusion. The cat was actually a neighbor of his. A woman who he insisted was a witch she had of course transformed herself into the cats in order to meddle in his business. This farmer though was fast on his feet not only did he see the cat running and then make the connection to his witchy neighbor but he then managed to pull out his gun. He was said to a fired. A silver bullet at the katz. Something well known at the time to be effective against witches and struck his target at that very moment according to the story be suspected which fell in her own. Home breaking her hip. In the town of salem new hampshire a man decided that his cow looked strangely different from how he remembered and he made the most logical conclusion he was. capable of. His neighbor was a sorcerer and the man had bewitched his cow folklore dictated the solution to he cut off the cows ears and tail and then burned them soon. He's one of his earliest releases people, funny people. One of the first acknowledge reggae songs from 1968. Mhm. David Katz wrote the biography people, funny people. The genius of Lee Scratch Perry and I'm delighted to say he joins us now on the program. Just just tell our listeners Lee Scratch Perry. Why was he called Scratch and you turned it shopping. I I don't think we have David. Their bit of sound. Yeah, so sonic invention there. It was the man himself the way to pay tribute to the man himself, actually, because I didn't interview on that a little bit earlier Scratch private. He did a song called Chicken Scratch, And so they produced a record called Chicken Scratch. You could have asked me It's a shame we couldn't get David to talk about it. I think that's the the The line has gone down. But what we can do is there again. Hello, David. Join us Go, and I've answered the first question. Hello? Give us another quick going role. Um You know he was he was He was a collective figure wasn't he Wasn't Keith Richards, who described him as the Salvador Dali of music. Yes, indeed. I mean, he was a multifaceted character. He began his career as a singer and then moved into record production where he really excelled. And of course, his innovative techniques really changed the way that popular music has been recorded and disseminated. In what way In what way? Well, he really stimulated remix culture. What we take for granted. Now, you know, he reused his rhythm tracks for songs he'd recorded originally as vocal recordings and overdubbed new instruments on them and mix them down. And really help to dub come into being as a genre and an art form. And that

"But i agree. I would love to go to europe. I would When when he was touring australia during the high hopes. Era yep I was by the owner of the company. I was working for the time Who was like in his middle sixties. Maybe late sixties and you know was coming to work on saturday mornings you know and of course you know. That's the reason why he's a millionaire. But i was like you know that age. I had that much money. I would be flying to australia and just doing the whole tour like you know like okay. Just you know getting just doing the tour because then between shows you would see this great country in this other you know beautiful scenery and what a great culture to do and so I really would love to go to ireland. I just think those are good shows and once again when you weren't at a show you the in ireland so you could see an right away. The culture there So one thing. I if any if anyone has never seen bruce in hartford jeff and you can get there every single time. It's an amazing show. And he pull some random song out of nowhere. I wonder why. I don't know but they're always good in hartford every single time without fail. Yeah and oppose this. My wife at one point joking with my girls says what if i were giving birth. What if i was going into labor. You were in new york Cnn show what would you do. And i'm like well you know. What am i gonna do deliver the kid like. I'm gonna come home the next day. What am i gonna. I'm walking into the show. I like hot by the time i get home. You can have the kid anyway. what's you know. So they didn't like that answer. But i kind of hyperbole. Yeah i mean. I'm not a doctor. I'm not gonna you know so We did have the My wife was doing a half iron man and And she was on a sunday and she said. I know your board going to these events. So you don't need to go like okay Her sister mary and my son went. She goes I said are you sure. Because i want to be supportive known enough. You don't need to go and later. It turned out that That was the do the free. Ncwa show was on that sunday. And i was like she had already told me. I didn't have to go erase me right. There's no way this free show right there in downtown dallas go watch her compete in a raise us oh and in in So yeah i get that We linda asked about. Do you wanna go see him again. This time and i said well first off. I don't think we can afford it. You know. I just missed off. I missed a couple of months and of work and while people were very generous in the go fund me. I said you know all that money is gone to make sure that all our bills are paid and everything right. I said so even though if we could find the money it seems kind of selfish that my first trip after having surgery..

"Sit is but it. It was his parents like fortieth wedding anniversary. And it was in new york city and this concert was like in syracuse was a real slap the drive so i gave up those tickets and ended up getting tickets at a different show but i still consider that i give the tickets and then the very first time he was coming to fenway park. i obviously was gonna get tickets with scott who was on before last time we have normally do and it was my wife's grandmother's ninetieth birthday. The whole family extended was flying to florida and our girls were really little. She wanted to see the kids and the babies and it was just. It was the right decision the a lot of heat from her parents from her rightfully so and my mother so it just wasn't worth the heartache. Ironically my white whale so to speak at the time was frankie. That was the song i wanted to hear like. No other any played it at fenway. That first time. And i'm like you've gotta be kidding me since then. I've heard it like three times. Including the next time he came to fenway. So of have got that but It it could have been closer to sixty s long as it's more shows than my age. Well the when he. He toured for the reunion There was something family going on that. Not as important as a birthday like my son had a football game or some kind of dance or something that i just and that i regret that i regret going. Okay look you know pay You so i didn't see him till the rising tour and So i i have that to put the sports analogy right like you missed the extra point early in the game you chase that the rest of the right the game i feel i starting only in two thousand and two i chasing to try to catch as many shows as i can to to see and so i i. I've hit most of my bucket list with that I wanted to see you know. Show new york. I've been to a few. I wanted to see new jersey. Been to a bunch I wanted to see him in philly. I flew down to philly and went with a buddy who had never seen him. So that was a nice treat We went to florida or another time. The see my wife's grandmother. And i was looking like It's going to be at fort. Lauderdale pretty close. Yeah we went to that but I'll toss scenario the one. I'd like to seem in europe. And i haven't done that but that would be the one i haven't i've been to arizona and some there fit. All the new england states filling. Dc would be nice..

"To that theory. I root for the whoever want to the head. Yeah and So yeah. I mean i root for the cowboys going up. Unlike the steelers down on so but only because you know the patriots were so bad but my kids have no conception of what you know myself and the other scott and my friends dealt with our whole lives. I mean it was heartbreak after heartbreak in the celtics won all the know. The bulk of their titles in the fifties and sixties. I wasn't around. Then you know. I saw until bird but Red sox never one you know. I was in college in eighty six still recovering from that. Yeah and you know it. Just never the bruins didn't win. You know i. I was too little and young at that point really so we saw nothing. You know one of my daughters is going to be seventeen. I think he's seen twelve parades. I mean it's it's not what we grew up with so A couple of things one. They were I remember the sports station here in dallas when the rangers were playing new york and like when a few years ago when the rangers had that two year where they went to the world series and There was a there was a kid with a new york cap on tv. And they said that this. This kid has no concept of what he was born into right and i'm similar to you. I'm a dallas fan like in When my son is just a four sports fanatic. he'll watch anything But you know if you know like i watched once the mavericks got out of the playoffs. I didn't care anymore. You know. I just didn't care You know the cowboys. Don't make the playoffs then. I don't care. I will tend to maybe if the saints because i grew up in louisiana doing something or A as you talked about if a coworker someone you're friends with gets really passionate about someone you know. Then i'll be in. I'll be inclined to kind of root for them because hey you know And it's it's it's always interesting to see and my son is thirty two and he talked about that. He was born in eighty nine and in february so technically landry was still the coach like he was like four weeks into his life is when jerry jones bought the team until he always tells why was a landry baby and He can vaguely remember. You know 'cause you know like two or three four. maybe you know. He had no sports consciousness for all his life. The cowboys have just sucked. And he's just like he's bitter. He's like you. You don't expect good things right just because it's the cowboys you know they're gonna screw it up isa's you know they're going to draft someone that well you know except for him being under investigation of killing his mother he would have been a first round track pick but we're going to get them in the third round and you know orwell. He had a devastating injury. But we think he's gonna come back so we're going to try fly on him. And chris like just get a good player just draft. Someone good you know and and don't get me wrong. I don't begrudge anybody in new york or the tristate area the route yankees or whatever. That's their team. they should be exactly absolutely i object. I have friends that you know just cherry pick and grabbed. Whoever's the at the time and root for them and i don't like that i'd rather you know i have friends that rooted for the pirates. You know their entire life and you know they had that one one good year..

"Give me a hard time about it. But i can. I can buy the version of the song. I can almost tell where it was when it was just. That's cool I may have asked you this and If you guys have not If you're new to the show I had a friendship month earlier in the year or indiana and and so scott was on with another friend. Scott it was the scott scott show and so Please go back in here that that was a lot of fun. They met in camp and then later became friends. They rediscovered each other and adults. Which i think is just an amazing story. So i may be duplicating a couple of questions. But what about bruce captivating you can you articulate why he became your guy and has remained your guy i will try and you can tell me if i articulate girls so i always loved history and i like trying to think of the word While try something else. Because i can't think of the we're having a senior moment but that's alright. I've always liked sort of team sports. I like the concept of a real band that that gets along not wanna fight. And everybody's got ish you know and i'm sure some of that goes on but you know for the most part. It's a pretty cohesive unit that he's created here because they all care so much And the whole is greater than the some of the parts is he you know the one plus one equals three thing that he stated and i from the very first time i heard almost every song it just hit me like i'm in. I'm sold so love at first sight. You know you just you know when you see it and you know when you hear it but what i always loved was this was a guy that was playing with his friends. The grew up essentially with these guys. Give or take you know in and out a few we were there. And they've stayed true. Tha their their mission. Statement and what they represent and You know. I totally respect the fact. He writes his own stuff. That doesn't mean. I don't like other people that don't write their own stuff. That are just very talented but to me it's just to that next level so to.

Hotel and i was in the warehouse so Every friday i get my paycheck and there was a store in cambridge that had bootlegs. I mean they certainly were legal. But they had bootleg. And i would run down there and i'd find a bootleg every week. I remember blowing like fifty bucks which was almost my check. You know that and it was a nice a nice gig you know. I'm like i don't do drugs. I'm not getting in trouble and buying bootlegs so it was That that's kind of where it came from from there and then I'm sort of I like the concept of pandora. I don't use it today. you know. He's other. But i like the concept of sort of you know you you find an artist you find song and then you spin off of that so to me. I'm like you know. I liked this type of music. Yeah so that's how. I started listening to southside johnny nukes. When little stephen came out with his first album. I grab that john. Etty spun off into these sort of new jersey. Sounds on kaffirs like all these different people. And i'm thrilled to have done that at the same time. I had sort of like anyone else. I like pop. I like you know. I'm a fan low like matt biomedical. Like all things that have nothing to do with bruce but You know. I sort of figured at that point in my early stages of Idolization of him that you know if it was good enough for him and he liked it. There must be something there. So i liked elvis before. But i certainly liked to more after bruce love them know sort of got into elvis sam cook. I is one of my all time favorites I don't listen to him in the car anymore superstition because i had a nasty car accident listening to sam cook at the time so i only listen at home but You know. I have a pretty broad range of music. But bruce's my go-to i listen..

Because i could go to all the different shows and didn't have to pay for them and So that was a nice thing through college. Yeah i bet on. But not a ton like i sort of sort of bucked the trend. That doesn't mean my parents were into music. They just never grew up in a musical house that makes sense also in fairness you know it was just records we predating the first sony walkman came out. I think i was a freshman in high school down. It wasn't like as a kid. We had a lot of different options than fm radio or something. Yeah yeah 'cause you know my parents You know it was all. Lp's you know the big You know huge piece of furniture with the tv that you know. Have the two speakers in your open up and there was the turntable than the other one was the radio As you started going into junior high in high school what kinda music are you listening to what what was the so. I always had. it's funny. You mentioned simon and garfunkel. Before my mom i was born in new york city moved. I don't remember it. We moved to boston back. My parents moved back to boston to but my mom Worked my grandfather. Her dad got her job. As a administrative assistant in a theatrical like a broadway agent's office who ended up was the manager for paul. Simon that he he would never remember and i certainly don't remember but used to play with me in the office while his agent would deal with my mother to get in to see. You know the lawyer would've lawyer his agent with them in gas sort of listening to different things. I found that i started getting into. I always liked simon and garfunkel..

I released that yesterday. He was from great britain. But found bruce in a. You know east coast. He had gone to america as in a camp like as an internship or something. And that's how he discovered bruce so If i remember correct brightness how you guys discovered bruce yeah you're spot on i as a little kid You know in my neighborhood. "I i would think there's somewhere in the in the plane range probably around where they were last year. I mean you know westbrook won. A lot of westbrook had such a weird season last year because he he was so struggled so much for them for the first two months of the year and then the last month and a half he just went gangbusters on the whole league and won them so many games during that seventeen in six stretched and the year. So it's such a weird season to evaluate with with with everybody. Them specifically i i would think off the top of my head. They're they're probably somewhere in that same range though You know which is fine. If you lose a player of the caliber russell westbrook you do it. To gain. Flexibility to to gain maybe the roster younger they. They don't have a player over the age of thirty now You do it to gain depth all those sorts of things and you maintain in the same spot. It's like okay. I mean that kind of makes sense. I would imagine you know. Maybe they're seven. Maybe they're nine. Maybe there ten but but somewhere around there and they don't have cap space for the next couple of summers which is fine like you. We've seen over and over. You can get away. It's nice to have a particular when you're a team that's on the on the up and on the come up so you can steal some extra picks from people who needed money but you can work your way around well. I just saw spot for the whiz. And we're all going to talk about the lakers. Let's talk about the wizard. So fred katz. You do a great job at everything you right. Everybody who's interested in the wizards and really you right. Just beyond wizards too. I really appreciate you making a little time. And if all goes well if the world is enabling it. Maybe i'll see you in beautiful washington. Dc next year. That would be great. It'd be great to see people to be around him.

"Still going to be small but the defense is gonna be interesting so like again dinwiddie. So zooming way out way out. The only question that matters really is what does bradley beal think of any of this and is this enough for him to sign the mammoth extension. He can sign after the season. Assuming that's the path he wants to take you as other ways you can do it too I i know it's like it's we can't just get into the guy's mind like this team's okay. They're okay. I don't think i certainly don't think in an east that sort of beefing up across the board. They're guaranteed to finish in the top eight which they barely did last year. They should the play in should be. There should be there for them but like the is not going to be there. Another pushovers in the east. Is this enough like are we just going to be here in the bill stuff all year long. Go probably hear the bills stuff all year long. No matter what. I mean i i'll tell you this much. i think. The wizards organization are are very hopeful. That they'll be able to bring bill back. I don't think they would have made these moves if they weren't You know all the reports from numerous outlets about beal. Mulling his future over. The last few weeks was it ended with him. Not asking for a trade. It ended with him kind of being involved in their off-season still and wanting to be involved in the free agency process. He was one of the guys who who recruited spencer dinwiddie to come to dc. Those guys are friends. He's he's really close. Friends with davis caldwell-pope. Brad constantly says that they just have to win that. That i think i think if i can get into brad mind and i've covered him for years now but if if i can get into. Brad's mind he he. I think he would rather win in dc than elsewhere. But i also think he doesn't necessarily just wanna lose the rest of his career and so the thing that i don't know is what does he consider to be winning. I also think by the way. The wizards can offer him a fifth year in free agency. And it's it's not a meaningless fifth at that age. At brad's age that that is a huge huge deal. Because he's going to be a year five will probably be like thirty three or thirty four of that. It's a huge. And you can't flash forward all those years and guarantee i'm going to be healthy. I'm going to be. I mean it's going to be fifty something million dollars in the fifth year yup and end the cap projection for the twenty. Two twenty. Three season just went up four million dollars higher than originally expected which means that that contract they can offer him with five. Years is five years projected to be five years. Two hundred forty one million dollars with a fifty five million dollar player option on your five fifty five million dollars. That is a large difference in guaranteed money that that is an incredible incomprehensible amount of money to me. So i mean that that matters. And i think that's something that's important to him It'd be wild to if it wasn't something that was important to him. So i think the wizards have that on their side and look to this point. He hasn't asked out. I think he plans on coming in and playing the season just like he has any other. I could not predict for you how this season. You know if the wizards have this record does that mean that. He's out if there was this record. Does that mean that he's in i. I don't know but it just every time i think right. Maybe something's happening. I go in check in like it's it's not. He's he's committed to the wizards in the wizards have committed in every way possible to wanting to build around him for the future by the way as an aside. I when coaches say. I think if we improve our offense. It'll help our defense. I feel like the only coaches who say it's it's correct. I feel like the only coaches who say that are the ones who know their defense is going to be bad but we have to. We have to have a good offense. Look the bill win. Winning and winning this team is not going to do. Capital w. winning this team is not going to be. It would take a lot for them to be in the second round of the playoffs. They're not going to be in the conference finals. They're not going to the finals. And i don't know what pathway they have their unless these young guys hit and hit fast. I like hot tomorrow. I think it's going to be good. I think already good and has a chance to be really really good. Adios sort of td kiss birds. Obviously but i don't. I don't see a clear roadmap here to capitol w winning and i think the fact probably is that the wizards have missed their best window to trade bradley beal for the mammoth return. Now they would still get a lot for him if they traded him now. But you've got to other guys out there in lillard and simmons and if the timing is such that all three become available at the same time that sort of complicate your ability to get the juggernaut return and once he goes on that contract he's on that contract and there's only gonna be a certain number of teams that are willing to trade for that country the window. It's not the best. The best window is probably gone but they would still get a lot for him but you know. I have a suspect. For the wizards i like. I said i thought it was wall. Beal teams were underrated. Because the just everyone laughs at the wizards just everyone likes to laugh at them just because like everyone likes to laugh at the knicks. If you're bad long enough just become a punchline. I liked those teams. I like the market. I like dc. I think it's cool. That brad wants to make it work there. I think it's i think it's cool. And i think it should be lauded So i hope this team is. I hope this team is good enough. I don't like where would you predict they finish. It's hard to predict. They're gonna finish over. Brooklyn milwaukee miami Philly atlanta austin is is an interesting sort of they haven't been super active like chicago. We can go on and on like what's a reasonable prediction. Yeah i mean look what if. What if lamelo comes out next year and is just unbelievable. I mean charlotte could be ahead of them..

"A first time guest. I'm so excited to have because you know we've already talked about the lakers. We're going to talk about the lakers all the time. The lakers lakers lakers lakers. Let's talk about the other team. That remade itself almost completely in one offseason slash to if you count the john wall for rush straight. And that's the fighting washington wizards. Liz boulet the flailing aspiring team. That made a let me see if i can get this red five team. Trade involving like nine thousand nine hundred seven second round picks which is something that the wizard used to always sell to other teams and they stopped doing that and low behold it was helpful. I think i heard a rumor. That bobby marks after the trade was running around naked in bristol just screaming chandler hutchinson's name and writing chandler hutchinson's name in lipstick on the walls. That's crazy the trade was. Let's talk some whiz with the athletics. Fred katz one of the best beat writers in the nba. Fred how are you. i'm exhausted. I'm bobby marks level of exhausted. Right now i mean there are so many names in there and so many so many picks trade exceptions. There's cash i mean that deal has every single thing that you could possibly throw into a deal. It's it's unbelievable. Cash considerations got thrown in there. He's a good player. Let's let me just reset. The washington wizards roster. That's that's where we are at this point. We have to actually just be like who is on the team. Okay here are. The here is my projected. Starting lineup for the washington wizards and you. You will have a blank to fill in spencer dinwiddie acquired in this five team monstrosity at three or sixty two million dollar deal bradley. Beal blank. Ryuhachi mira daniel gifford. I'm guessing the blank will be contagious. Caldwell-pope what do you think. I think you're right. Yeah that would he. Certainly the favorite i. I don't think it'll be denny. And he's another contender for their i. I would assume it's caldwell-pope he just fits really well. I mean i know you could. Argue is a little bit better against guards that he is against huge wings but he shoots well from three. He can defend multiple positions on the perimeter. He's kind of versatile. Three and d guy. They've been looking for forever. And i think they feel more comfortable with off the bench at least at the start of the year and you could throw his playmaking into the second unit and i think that just works works right. So let's go through the resident depth chart. Because casey ep is a reliable defender in when you look at those names. Dinwiddie bill huchon moro's just getting interest third year gaffer. Who's a an exciting pogo stick of prospect. But that's not going to be a great defensive lineup. And obviously the wizards were i. I think brad beal us like four different metaphors to describe. How bad the wizards defense was. It couldn't guard a parked car then. It couldn't guard a grandma could not guard anything else. Was there any other lake. Couldn't guard like a rock. Was there anything else that was used. There were a lot of references to playing like ass and that was that was. That was something that was said on many an occasion throughout that. That's brad's go to. So yeah i think i think there might have been some other stuff that he was saying. Not press conferences to well. Look i mean the the quickest way to regular season Sort of competency is just be good defensive team every night. that's where the teams in new york particularly lasco players has made last year made their bonds. Will this thing the defense team. I don't know can they sniff average. I don't know but the other way that be a good regular season team is to have depth and this team has depth and depth. Helped you stand injuries. Were stand back to backs beat up on opposing second unit. That don't have that. So let's go through the depth chart. Are you ready fred. I am very ready. Point guard spencer. Dinwiddie how little netto who resigned by unsung hero of their team. Last year i will netto showed it really well from three. Just filled every gap that they had doesn't do anything spectacular and then erin holiday. Who was acquired for the twenty second. Pick and i believe the wizards got the also the thirty first. Pick in that draft. Twenty-second came courtesy of the lakers. Somehow ended up with the pacers. My head hurts already Bill when casey twos or twos or threes then you have a very crowded. Sort of hybrid. Forward I guess corey kuenssberg probably was going to be considered a to for them. A two point five. We'll place them to. They drafted him out of gonzaga kyle kuzma denny omnia ryuhachi myrrha 'davis britan's all guys. Who will probably stay time at the three to some degree. All guys who are probably forced to an entire degree and then the big guy's gifford mentioned todd already Thomas bryant and mantras herrell acquired from the lakers. That's that's just a lot of dudes. There's a lot of dudes fred. What am i to make of any of this. There's a lot of dudes which is which is kinda why i think it's. It's plausible. that the wizards are done. I mean they're really really close to luxury tax right now right up against it. They technically did not use their mid-level exception but they would have to cut a significant amount of salary in order to be able dip into that. But they have like you said there's so much depth with the forwards who aren't really wings. But you can kind of play on the wings but it's not preferable to have them on the wings with a a good thing. Russian kuzina has a lot of experience in that. They've the lakers because of their team. Construction has to guard everyone from klay thompson to bradley bradley beal when they played right and he's and he's a much better defender now than he was when he first came into the league is way improved on that side of the ball..

"In. It's not that the bulls aren't better they are. I think they have a nice young core place. And i'm with you. I think the moves are solid. But you're not better than so many teams and so how do you balance all right. We've improved and maybe we make it in in that plane. Spot or or best case zac. What's the best case for this team. Right now. cases bet. I think best case is better than that. I think the best case is like six er fifth requires some injuries to other teams. I think offensively this team's going to be really really good. I t- i take your point. They've given up a lot. I'm surprised they had to give up a first round. Pick to get derozen Who did not have as much of a market is anticipated. Now people look at the events of free agency right in the timing events. where was the market for derosa. There was no cap space left. It must have just been the spurs. These things are already gone. Long underway by the time the market quote unquote dries up. Good players of demar derozan stature. What's happening dennis. Schroder does not happen to them. It's what it's like. When kyle lowry headquarter quote no market. Why didn't the raptors squeezing me gets three years. Ninety million just doesn't happen. But i was surprised they gave up a i and i think the interesting thing to your point is they've now given up these traits. Wendo car junior. All these picks and those trades turned into. I think two guys who are known as floor. Razors like the ultimate. This team raised the floor in chicago. Into marvin rosen. Nick vuckovich. Who can win you. Some games on regular season not stat that many and in the playoffs it's sort of Tvd drops off a little bit. This dave dave paid a lot for those kinds of guys. And i think they're counting onto things. Ball's gonna hit. I like that levine's got more to do. I like that. Too and pat williams is going to be really good but he's got to get really good soon. Because the rosen. And are of that age. I just mean we can talk more about the path here. But i'm more optimistic you. I think this team is going to be really dynamic offensively. The whole question is going to be. Can they be fifteenth defensively. It'd be fifteen defense. Are going to be really good. If their twenty second defense than it's it's going to be more towards museum finishing. I trust billy donovan. I think he's a hell of a coach. I think he's got pieces in place. Now to make the bulls defensively better than we think in. Zac lee rena a piece from stephan. No an old friend of mine. Who's covered the bulls for a while. And he he noted that hey. A lot of people didn't think the bulls are going to be good last season. They finished like eleven. In in your thinking. Okay the rosen. Not a very good defender. This point levin has improved. But he's still not a very good defender. Vich still not a good defender. So that's the scary part is you've added these guys now to your core that just good. So they'll have to outscore people on a nightly basis in. They might be able to and they're interesting. But i think part is crucial to me watching what's happening now in comparing it to just a few years ago and we all agree that karna service and ever xlii are a complete one eighty from garner impacts. And how they operate day-to-day but i think it is important to note here that mike and jerry reinsdorf have also obviously changed their tune a little bit too because the reason they moved jimmy and this goes back four years at this point but the reason they moved him it was because they didn't want to be that team that got to the tensely the second round in the eastern conference playoffs and get knocked out. They didn't believe that he could be the face of a title team. And look they've been proven to be incorrect. At least in the case that led the the heat within two games of winning the bubble. But what's fascinating to me as somebody who's watched this team for years and years is they didn't seem to want mediocrity and now all of a sudden you have gone all in with all the moves that you just laid out in. I just don't see a path towards the top. I see them getting better. I see them. Maybe they're they're going to be better than what i think. Even if i have doubts about how they're going to be defensively. I just don't see this team. Even in a best case scenario being able to contend for an eastern conference crown and so that is why. Think mike and jerry. You're sitting there looking at the empty seats in the last couple years. They're looking at the idea. That fans are coming back into the building. Hopefully this season and they're going. Hey we're sick of this rebuilding crap and irrelevancy and on one day we have started to build up relevancy again in the hope. Is that you generate enough interest within the city and within the league that if you start winning maybe the bulls can start to add that magical piece that they've been seemingly looking for since back when tips. I got there so pessimistic. So pessimists raising me for years i was gonna say. Would you go to sleep at night. Do you have nightmares where you like. You're dreaming all of a sudden you tonight. Having nightmare like benny. The bull is standing over your bed with like a machete. Just just waiting for you to wake up with his bug-eyed cooked out. Is i just feel like you've got some emotional demons from all of this. Do you dream. Tim's ever appeared in any of your dreams Are you kidding me are. Are you kidding me. What are you doing here. And i'm like oh what happened back in the good old days. Benny and i used to. We used to go out on the town he used to. I know the old banning. The old ben is a delightful gathers new. Benny who. I don't know but old benny who i know. I'm not gonna say his name. The mascot community takes very seriously nitty but he was a delay is a delightful guy. I don't know where he is. He's a delightful guy. All benny used to used to go up to some nice young ladies and chicago bar and go..

"Just every time you turned around he was getting technical or afflict technical plus flagrant per minute t f permanent. Dwight howard had to lead the league by a lot last year. So look they trade for us. They trade three rotation players for including casey p who was he their best to wing other than lebron. Maybe you could save. Some people like caruso at in that spot. but his twenty twenty bubble postseason was marketable remarkable kuzma. Thirty six percent from three last year made great strides in an all around player and is harrell who the least an a regular season energizer in innings eater and can swing some quarters here there and then it gets played off for the playoffs. That's for russ and you freeze it there and we have to freeze it there because this is what we do in the media. We talk about what's happening now. You sit there and you think boy oh boy. That's a lot of. That's a lot of shooting out the window for a guy who doesn't shoot it well but shoots it a lot and is a weird fit with lebron james and they could have had buddy healed as a great shooter. He's an amazing shooter. Oh my god one of the most olympic three point shooters of all time and could have just kept in a shooter in that in that sequence they get to keep casey p. I said i. I kind of like that path better. I also said. I don't really think there's gonna be a functional number of functional difference between those two pats in terms of win. Totals pro play-off equity. You might be about the same. I like that better and boy. Oh boy i gotta hand it to rob pelinka slash lebron james slash rich paul slash. The buses slash. You've ever making these decisions because with almost nothing to offer the lakers did about as well as you could on the minimum slash in kendrick nuns case tax mid level market. Dwight's really good backup center ellington bays more. They can shoot mellow can shoot i. We'll talk about the limitations. They have trevor. Rees is almost the opposite kind of limitation. Really good defender. The shooting comes and goes to me the things that swing it. Are you brought. Back and tucker. Would i prefer that. You also bring back outs caruso. Yes but that's not my money. That's the buses money and it was probably either or choice given what i think. They offered caruso. Do we want to pay to ten million dollar guys probably not but monk at the minimum and none for what they got him are just an injection of youth and ball handling that. I think is really really good for this team. And i even think we can see some lineups. You know if the russ lebron ad fit proves a little clunky at times or Went wide is out there. If they don't play much dwight at all. I think you can see some none at point guard. Some no point guard line as where lebron is the point guard. And there's a lot of shooting on the floor. I give the lakers. A lot of credit day pivoted from that rush trade ended the absolute best. They could. I think. I mean i don't really know what else you could hope for. The team. they were on draft day was concerning the team they are. Today is something that you can see working basically the personnel and there is still the signal though that by my understanding with my reporting that certain lebron james was in favor of this. Russ move over the buddy hield move and is it because he recognizes that. Perhaps the lakers didn't have an aflame aching. That's kind of been a point of emphasis. He's had really. Since the sixteen seventeen season coming off the championship with the cavaliers. He was telling us in the press. That i need some more play making around me. And that's was. the critical. Mistake is first year in cleveland where he viewed land stevenson and michael beasley playmakers. Rather than those spots going to trickle shooters. They somehow have address. Both they added play making a run and they added shooters. The question is though did he want russ because he recognizes. He's about to be a nineteen year mba veteran who turns thirty seven in december and needs someone to take some of the load off him. Maybe that's the best thing that he somebody you can trust. That he will hand over some load to but at the same time are the lakers championship team. If lebron isn't plus plus you. You rarely are a championship team. If your best player is not himself right so look here's the. Here's the argument for the team. Other than everything you just said about the shooting right. The closing lineup on paper is going to be russell. Westbrook player ex player. Y lebron james in anthony davis how you fill in those blanks will be interesting but their argument would be. We just won the championship two years ago with lebron ad and three perimeter players one of whom was very often a non shooting point guard. Rajon rondo the other two slots. It's not like they were incredible. Shooters alex caruso caldwell-pope as you said is really good shooter. Kyle kuzma you know. We've seen that formula. We know it works. We can duplicate it again. Just pick a shooter out of these pickle wing. Pick two wings out of this bucket. Maybe one night. It's monkeying aretha. Maybe it's none in months. Maybe it's none. And maybe maybe maybe likely it's tailing horton tucker. Plus one of those guys. Were mellow or mellow we can. Make that work The questions for the questions and let actually zoom out. Like i don't i am. I am five to ten percent lower on russ than most national media. I think the fit to me is problematic because rust needs the ball all the time all the time because he does nothing when he doesn't have it except just have the lane be clogged up. His guys not guarding him. And that's a problem for lebron and if your solution is we'll give russell westbrook the baltimore this if your solution should never be give someone other than the bron james the baltimore if lebron james on your team so all of that is problematic and needs to be worked out and i. I'm lukewarm on the wrestling. But i look at this team on paper. Who am i picking in the west over them next year. Who i mean. I i can't All the teams you mentioned going to phoenix is going to be really good again. The warriors are going to be good. Utah is not going anywhere. Dallas with luca plus shooting and. I think they've got an addition or to still to make is really dangerous. I don't think it's like a no brainer. That i don't think the lakers have constructed. Oh my god a juggernaut. This is a big three on the level of wade. Lebron bosch in miami. I don't think that necessarily but i'm like who. Who am i picking over them. I i don't know the. I don't have a good answer to that too. You know and if you add in the fact that it's a long off-season for lebron so theoretically that'll help him you add in the fact that there is certainly a motivating factor for russ To maybe this is best chance to win a championship in his career. You know other than being three one on the warriors back with the katie days but that seems like so long ago now at in i would hope and i think this is really the player that matters the most to the lakers. Chances is anthony davis the way. The postseason went for him to have the groin. Take him out of it and recognize where his career. He won the championship two years ago. Who was one a with lebron james. They need him to be one. They need him ascend. Be the guy be there every night. Get his body right. Have the competitive spirit to care about these regular season games pushed through everything you know if he can do that then actually then. It's pretty easy to talk yourself into the lakers. Being the top team in the west. And look i completely agree in the sense in the sense of like you think about the..

"Here and a schreuder there in a aardvark here and there is is over pretty much over and god. A lotta stuff happened. This is going to be a mega podcast. But i'm in los angeles. We have to start with. The los angeles lakers when i did this with ramona two days ago. It's almost charming because so much has happened since then that we have to do it again. We're going to go with our lakers. Beat guy one of the best in the business. Mr dave mcmenamin. How are you either. Well zach. i've actually feeling pretty good about things. All things considered after the lakers lost in the first round. It seemed like oh this could be one of the summer where things drag for a month before we see what the team looks like but no from draft day through what wednesday it pretty much came together quickly. How many players from the twenty twenty. Twenty one lakers are currently slated to be on the twenty twenty. One twenty two lakers dave mcmenamin. Let's see if you can do it. markelle saw lebron james. Anthony davis talent. Horton tucker might need some help too. Is that that is your does it. You've got the list So since i recorded on tuesday the following things happen the lakers sign maliki monk and kendrick nunn one to the minimum one not to the minimum recent tail and horton tucker lost. Alex caruso signed carmelo. Anthony who is the ninth all time leading scorer in nba. History has something something like that or these about three hundred points away from nights. He's intent threat now. Well he's a syracuse guy. You gotta know that one you gotta know aboard mellows finishing hashtag stay mellow and oh my god. It's like a whole new team And it seems like so long ago that we were debating. Oh my god. They traded for russia to have just kept schreuder and and traded for buddy healed instead and kept contagious. Caldwell-pope outplays for the wizards wizards also have an entirely new team. We're going to get to them. Later dave mcmenamin who let's take a deep breath for second what hath god wrought here. What do we have. What is this team. What do you think about it. What just what. Wide is lebron. So cranky on twitter. Why did he delete his tweet about us. Making fun of how old is old team is just everything dave what's happening. I don't understand why you would delete that because anyone who spent any time on the internet recognizes that week this week and he wanted the smoke so to speak and that tweet will be brought up again again as they get through this upcoming season now. I am not a fan of outright rejecting a team's chances for success based on the average age of the roster. I think that's folly i think it's silly. One of the best knicks teams that carmelo anthony ever played on or the best team that took the heat to six games in the second round. Was the oldest team in nba history by average age At that point and they played well together tasers in his pacers in the second round. There you go pacers second and then you remember back in the day where you have. That lakers team. Where you add. Karl malone and gary payton to to legitimately great players in check in kobe. And maybe there's a little bit of that air about this lakers team so far but even at team got the files at. I still think the way we look at the league coming up into next year. Other than brooklyn i. Maybe someone who believes too much in brooklyn at this point. I think it's wide open and i. It's a dramatic change but last year. They lost the first round the playoffs and sometimes that requires dramatic. Change shake things up. Look at i. I agree with you in the sense that if the nets are healthy. And maybe that's just the if that's gonna hover over this team until we see them be healthy at at the at the end. It's it's sort of crazy to think that the one coming off an achilles was the healthy one in kevin durant. James harden is a tank and for the first time in his career. That tank blew a tire at the wrong time. We'll see if there's any lingering effects from that he's entering his thirties now played a lot of minutes. Played a lot of minutes off the court to So to speak and kyrie irving is head injuries a lot so but i agree with you. I think the nets about a great summer. I don't want to spend a lot of time in that. It's i think they are the undisputed favourite to win the twenty twenty two championship if healthy undisputed but to your point. One of the big story lines next season is going to be. How long is jamal. Murray out or is he out. How long is kawhi leonard out or is he just out and if it's the last two or even if it's if it's come back but they're just not the same because that's what happens when you come off those kind of injuries and they just play the last month or whatever those are two potential title contenders that i think you just wipe off the board. So i agree with you in that in that sense. It's not wide open. Because i think the nets were the favorites. But i don't think there's anyone in the west at the lakers would look at it and say oh my god teams the next year. You probably utah. Phoenix golden state would be the team's immediately that was going to mention like klay thompson. I don't think klay thompson is gonna be ready for opening night. And i think we should assume that it's going to take him all out of the season if not the entire season to look like klay thompson if he ever looks like klay thompson again and nobody they're like i love klay thompson. I want him to look like klay thompson and if he does. I think this seem as a chance to be really really good. So let's zoom out. Here's the lakers. Roster right now there are point guards are russell westbrook and of list unless you include lebron james. Who's just everything. Lebron james is whatever you need him to be other than maybe a center and even he can be that. If you need. They're shooting guards are maliki monk loved it wayne. Ellington can shoot can as more can shoot kendrick. Nunn loved it and can play a little backup garden. I suspect he will play some backup point. Guard whatever you wanna call. Caitlyn morton tucker. He's a two three. He's six three with a seven one. Wingspan that could come in handy. We'll talk about that. He played someone last year too much. He's he's a case of emergency one and maybe able to defend some threes. Which is why it bring up that. Wingspan the forwards. Both small and power are lebron james. Anthony davis trevor. Aretha carmelo anthony and the Centers are anthony davis again. Marcus oil and dwight howard that is. That's a whole new freaking team. Mr mcmanamon mr mcmanamon. That's just said your name wrong. Disrespect minimum minimum is entity. They was going to be the starting center on opening day. Now i don't sit. He as a way that he's comfortable through eighty game eighty two game season. It's not playing starting senator. There's going to be moments. We saw his first year. With the lakers. Wear is a game against utah they were trailing at the half and frank didn't like what he saw and he started anthony at the five. The second half had a dramatic change on the game. Go bears such a unique talent and their changes that amick where ruse playing on the court and the lakers one. You'll see moments like data of course but anthony davis wants to have a henchman and he asked them marcus all dwight howard they will occupy that position than you'll see anthony there in spurts. Marcus too. Nice to be a henchman. I you know what he. He's not as nice as people think he's got a little edge. Yeah you you could be a henchman. Dwight howard is almost a henchman by accident and his elbows or just hitting things at all times at this point and he he had to set the post rasheed wallace record for technicals permit last season..

Apple Launches a New Remote

"What upgrades did we get with this new apple. Tv four k remote will. This was a long overdue. Refresh the change the color first and foremost it's now a much easier to find silver kind of like the older apple remote new directional pad as opposed to just relying solely on gestures which let the old or most recent apple tv remote had others new power button and siri. Button of the front of the remote is now relegated to the side. Got it so. I know you have a chance to use it. This was just announced yesterday in the presentation. But what are your early impressions of this thing. As before long overdue the original apple tv herbs sign up the original apple tv but the most recent apple tv remote had a bevy of issues for a lot of people. It's was very slippery it's small. It was easy to lose inside a couch. I don't know a as you mentioned. I haven't had a chance to use yet. This could still be all those things but on the surface. It looks like it's a lot easier to use especially because it has the directional pad as opposed to just using a track pad and the fact that it has the power button for turning on the tv is also easier. You could do that before on the apple. tv but now there's a dedicated button it just a step easier as opposed to having to find the right button on the original right colleague. David katz myer says that the remote control is the biggest upgrade to this apple tv. Four k box In terms of size you mentioned it was easy to lose that original controller like Impression that the upgrades. The changes were improvements. Made this new one will solve some of those annoying issues. It looks like it's a little bigger. Which should be easier to hold in also easier to find in the fact that it's the aluminum looking silver all around supposed to just on the back with but the previous from are having it all black front or largely black front mid easier lose. This hopefully will be more noticeable. I do wish however the they put in that you w one chip than the ultra wideband ship. So you could find. It was the same way you can find air tax. Wish they did. Thank you so much for being with us today. Number with you So everybody's gonna wanna listen up because cellulite. It is a huge problem. I feel like having been in this beauty community forever. The way that i look at cellulite is that it's kind of like if your boss was to bring their bratty child to a party. It's something we all know about. It's it's a problem we all have to deal with. But there's nothing you can really do about it so nobody wants to touch it. Is that pretty accurate. That's how cellulite has been regarded. Yeah absolutely i mean we. We used to call cellulite. The holy grail he goes there have been so. Many treatments have been touted to work from lasers to Radio frequency to topical agents caffeine aminov. Flynn medication that you rub on his skin. All different types of things and you know what most of them did nothing you know. It's it's interesting too. Because i think that i want to talk a little bit about what cellulite is. What causes it. But before we get into that. I also want to specify boomer talking sometimes about you know quote unquote treating things. There's a difference between actually trading a problem and making it appear like making the appearance. Less notable and i think sometimes people confuse that they think fit like. Oh if i use this cream. This cream is actually going to treat it when really know it might help make the appearance somewhat less noticeable things like

"Center Executive actions on gun control issued by President Biden Thursday, president called Gun violence and epidemic at a public health crisis and said the second Amendment doesn't grant an absolute right to own a gun. The idea Is just bizarre to suggest that some of the things we're recommending are contrary to the Constitution, Biden introduced a Syriza's six gun control executive actions. They include tightening restrictions on ghost guns that can be put together at home with untraceable parts and no serial number. Another calls for categorizing pistols with arm brace modifications as rifles.
