"Up in England. Forget that that's what you were queuing up only sales. We speak so American accent right at my was born in New York City. He doesn't even wear petticoats. Doesn't even listen and David has truly walked off camera. He left on my way to second. This is never come up on the PODCAST. That's why I felt like had to save this for the fifth anniversary as a big reveal. David is currently leafing through his UK. Passport he's holding it up to the camera. It's real folks. This is no bit. In less he is committing passport forgery. This is a real easy. You Pass Four. Oh my God David Lawrence symph will but how you fucking new one because of Brexit and right now I have the e one. Here's a question and posted on the red a couple weeks or maybe a month or two back Asking people for things they want to see your ear in the fifth anniversary episode. And here's an interesting thing to discuss. Because I don't know if we've really talked about this just a nice little little bonus trivia facts to give our listeners. I laugh alone which I believe is the Great Amelia's right corrupt. He said. Have you ever been close to getting a mini series subject or a star of the film? You're covering to be on the episode. I don't think we've ever come close with a star but we have twice gotten within shouting distance of getting a director on we multiple times were at least in the preliminary conversations with ang-lee people end with MD. Shamlan people and David has switched to a different background. Photo that is now Colin Farrell. Ingong in Miami Vice but this is true and it's not a thing we talked about and maybe maybe someday we'll make it happen. Yeah I guess we talked about. We have talked about Shamlan. Ingley never talked about that. We'll see hopefully it will happen one day a couple of times. We were looped in with Shama lawns with the marketing team for Glass. When that movie was we we talked about that we did. We did acknowledge that one. We got close to doing it. We almost interviewed him. Live and then Angrily almost at our live show with James Shame S. He was working on something overseas. He was getting an honorary award in like Taiwan or something but I believe he was also producing that award. Show well all right. He's not. He's a hardworking guy. Look he's not going to get to work producing the damn show but he relayed a message to us that he he would have been there were he in the country And then when I was coming out and when it was coming out on home video we were talking with the marketing team. Look we've we've gotten somewhat close and they're the two who feel the closest and hopefully someday we'll We'll make it happen. They're the two guys. I almost would be most curious to speak to especially Shamlan who in his assessment of his career. The last couple of years I think has a similar perspective on his career as to how we sort of talked about him on the show. I Want Spielberg. He should come on Spielberg on bank. Jack I would sit down with the bearded one I would. Now we're talking. We're talking Shamlan. Who's the first director right after the Star Wars days and I thought we could play some messages from some friends of the show who were like really early on started being guests and were you know people that are now in the five. Timer Club. Oh some five timers. Let's let's play the clip. My favorite movie is why. Why is your favorite movie? Wally be funny. Hi Griffin and David and Ben this is Katie. And Charlie Charlie King say hi. Hi The last time you heard Charlie and the show we were on the titanic episode Charlie was a tiny baby. Do you remember going to record the recording studio with me Charlie? Yeah Yeah you do Since then Charlie has seen a lot of movies Charlie. Have you seen gigantic? Charlie will be a big kid and watch big hit. Movies wants to anything else. Charlie okay. Happy Anniversary guys. Hello Suzie Griffin Benny. This is your friend. Richard the Kevin Fi of the troll cinematic omnibus. I wanted to say happy fifth anniversary. And congratulations on such a successful joyfully. Ridiculous podcast listening to your show and being a guest on your show during this completely non stressful totally. Normal half decade has made me laugh. Made me think and made me reconsider everything. I thought I knew about the movies. I love you boys and wish you at least a couple of years more as ever. Please support my trolls as they and I their malevolent creator will always support you. Yeah we we should acknowledge that. The trolls have a significant financial stake in the show. They really do. But they're somehow venture funding like a lot of the operation. We're in the pocket of big troll and yes the troubles as a collective much like how Wisconsin owns the Green Bay. Packers yet right we. We are largely owned by the trolls as a collective man. It was good to your Charlie's voice. I haven't seen Charlie Baltimore since he was about two years old. I'm last summer. And then he was in a phase where he just called everything yellow any color. You'd ask what colors were always just say it was yellow and clearly. He's just only growing by leaps and bounds. Yes weird the way. He's a growing as time progresses. Can we also appreciate that? She said he listened to big kid. Movies older as if it doesn't still watch movies back. He basically has a one of your favorite movies is his favorite movie. I'm glad he upgraded because for a while sing was his favorite movie and for a while before that it was cars three and I think we're finally getting to the real good stuff. He has somehow tour shit look unwilling to call him our second finest film critic. I think Charlie belt is an addition to the youngest ever. Guests is the second finest film critic back on the show. We will you know a thing. We have floated out. That now might be a little bit further off. Just because of where the world is at one of our ideas for our eventual trip to Disney in order to cover galaxy's edge is to make a little pit stop to visit Katie and Charlie and do a little episode with them We would do. Maybe a trump release choice or commentary or something with Charlie So you know. He'll he'll join the timers club eventually and Katie Richard Little Goldman listened to it. Read them on. Vanity Fair to refinance to people who we would not be such close friends with an offer trivia as well it just kind of crazy. How many of our recurring guests are either people? We metric Trivia People who knew online but we Invited to Trivia and that was the first time we met them in real life or previous friends of ours who joined us for trivial once or twice in them became closer friends. It really is are are sort of Social next for this show still. I Miss Trivia. I must now I miss everything. I Miss Literally everything outside of my window. I think this is a good time to say that anche rules used us to say that yeah. I'm so so happy that we met you. And you became a part of the show and now at this point five years you're able to really take on so much more of a role with the show and all that you've done to grow Social media for the show and like assistance. You provided to me and I just really feel like you have brought your own voice to this show and such a great way and of Anshan and so so thankful to have you part of blank check ban you guys to we love you and you're the best and you have helped show in so many incalculable ways. But also he's been such a pleasure With you you are someone we have had solely through doing the podcast and it was a happenstance thing. You know that you happen to be interning at the time that we were sort of getting our sea legs and that we noticed your tweets and how much better they were than our tweets. And when you're internship ended we said if you WANNA keep doing this we will pay you whenever we figure out how to make money off of this and for a long time. I've been thinking you at the end of every episode saying thanks and for good for social media but that has been reductive for a lot of that time that was initially. You're only responsibility with the show. But more and more over time you have been taking more and more responsibility and your voice has been affecting all areas of the show and you're looped in all areas of planning and and sort of bigger picture strategy and and now are starting to appear On microphone on the show more often But but you are you know. Anche is This is I guess as good times and make denounce with the Andrews A producer on the show sort of fulltime team blank. Check as we are figuring out how to keep this thing going and what else we can grow it into Huda Barracuda the tweeter. I'm trying to think engine the pussycats pussycats.

"Hello and welcome to little Goldman the award season podcast from Vanity Fair. It's such an honor to present this next award. The nominees and the US group goes to food. And I can't deny the fact that you like me on the mistake. Who like you guys won best picture? I'm Katie Rich. The deputy editor Vanity Fair Dot Com. And I'm here with our digital director after my cogan and are seen rhetoric Robinson. Hi Katie Richard Lawson. I regret to inform. You has left this plane of existence. Because he's cats last night we haven't heard from him since and so he's He's up at the heavy side. laer inserted isn't here. I have to make the cats jokes. I think you could also claim to have written and directed record it if you want to. No no no Mike Okinawa. The fans Richard is the creative. And you're skeptical critic. These are the roles. We play around. Richard is Investing Star Wars. Right now he did see cats and we are going to have another episode this week to talk about cats and star wars. Do not worry we will not leave you hanging but as of right now Joanna you. We'll have seen star wars but you can't talk about yet and none of us so we're just going to hold off. I cannot say a word about Sarwar. Stop trying to make me stay tuned for later. This Week you. I'm sure you will not want to miss her. Discussions of cats and star wars. But in the meantime there's a lot else going on talk about the shortlist for a lot of Ostra categories. We're GONNA talk about but Richard Jewel We're GONNA talk about bombshell and then in the second half. We have a conversation that our colleague Laura Bradley had with Anthony McCartan these screenwriter of the two popes and Jonathan Pryce. One of the stars ars my beloved two. Popes I'm really excited about it. A we're also going to talk about a peace call against me presents and reported about the word that maybe men aren't seeing little women the the way that they should as awards voters But I as I said there is a they announced a shortlist for nine. Different Oscars categories. It's one of those Oscar things where every single oh category has different rules. You never totally remember which one is going to have a short-list announce until all of a sudden you're like oh there's a shortlist for makeup and hairstyling. Okay so a lot of those are out. There's a lot of things that are expected suspected. I wanted to highly original song category. I wrote an article for special issue about the original song. Category kind of framing it as a showdown between beyond say who had a song in Lion King and Taylor Swift who had a song in richer lessons cats. Don't make the shortlist you guys. This is crazy. No might like the dueling divas. We were promised Thomas I know. Yeah Yeah I feel like why am I happy. When bad things happen to Taylor swift in my bed I think you're just on the Internet prerequisites extremely online YEA well it's too bad it would've been cool to have a big Like you said Pop Taybeh showdown well. There's still Elton. John nominated for his rocket man song up against beyond say. So there's There's some level of pop diva and also the song song that Mary Steenburgen wrote for wild rose shortlist so different kinds of. She's an Oscar winners. Were not happy with that. She like fainted or we had an she had a surgery or something and when she woke up all she could hear was music and then she wrote an Oscar nominated or Oscar shortlisted song arguments. Yeah like doesn't that sound like something that would happen to marry. See merging curb your enthusiasm episode about this season. The Glasgow the song from wild rose is my favorite song original all songs the year and so like to see it makes me really happy. I don't know if it's going to make the final cut because I bet we're going to get like you know this. I'm Harriet like there's a lot of like bigger bigger things sort of taking the exit in the room. But Hey man if Taylor swift is possibility that this will happen so Keep all of your limbs cross for this song from wild rose which is incredibly good and not only an incredibly good song but just the emotional climax of the movie in a way that doesn't feel l. like overblown and that sort of like musically way but a little bit more subtle. I like overblown musicals myself. You know just go see. Well rose if you haven't I no no it's probably streaming somewhere so check it out. Yeah Mike Have you seen wild rose not it is. It's one of those surprising. Low Key delights where you're like. I don't know much about this movie and then UCF A- and I'm Jessie Buckley who was on turn noble. She's got a small role in Judy on. She's The star in it. And this is one of those great lake breakthrough this person's going somewhere movies so the second time. I'm googling it because you guys mentioned it before rented on Amazon Prime for three ninety nine so thanks Mike. This episode not brought to you by Amazon prime as wanted to mention that. Apparently there's an original song in parasite called a glass of soju which I didn't know about but made the shortlist and now I'm I'm kind of reading for it. Even though I've never heard it I saw the movie so I guess I have but I have no memory of it and I love that title honestly I love a glass of Soju. Generally so quotes a couple other highlights cats did make the shortlist for visual effects with its digital technology technology alongside things like German and the Irishman worth all the de aging this famous for this year. Longs I uh Star Wars So we'll see how all those things adding together Makeup categories always really interesting bombshell with Charlie famous. Transformation is in there against little women which you know. It's mostly just like a lot of amazing wigs in in there in one thousand nine seventeen which I'm fascinated by guests like keeping all that hair in place amid the moon you'll says a challenge wound is yeah. Melissa sent so shout out to Angelina. Jolie's prosthetic cheekbones. Yeah they made the cut then did his own makeup joke hair and hair the international feature. I think most of the things that everyone expected to make it in there. There aren't any like crazy. Shortlist missions that we there have been in years past on portion. I never lady on fire. It's worth reminding is not eligible. It wasn't submitted by France because he submitted Lima's Ob- which I have not seen but is kind of almost as highly regarded as that movie David Robinson there against parasite and Atlantic's painting glory and a lot of the other big foreign language titles this year so nothing too crazy at this stage in the game. I don't think yeah if yeah if you're salty about the emission portugalete fire director towards France brought this. You're gonNA bring back the lake. Freedom fries era of American discourse like something. I'd do okay. I mentioned a little women briefly in the hairstyling category and and we wanted to talk about little women. I feel like we do manage to talk about little women every single week on this podcast which is exactly how I would like it but anthony. Brian can wrote a story today where he talked to Amy. Pascal Scowl WHO's the producer of little women? And if you other people about what seems to be founded rumor that these screenings a little women for awards voters are not being attended by men which seems seems like a dumb joke. You would make about like oh the women movies too much for men but apparently true which I will make this movie. I feel like I would be like knocking on buildings out of anger for this. I'm really astonished. That not only. Do we hear this rumor. But they're like yeah men are going to see it and it's stupid. I just got the screener again so I wonder if they were kind of like weekday just had to resend it to every male to really watch but I did watch it the first time I got one and But yeah this seems dumb. But also as amy's Amy's Pascal said to The producer and former studio chief. Amy Pascal said Anthony President can. She's like I don't think this malicious it's just you know unconscious bias. which which sounds about right but but but guys need to see you know like shake that stuff often and watch all the movies you know? Come on yeah well in Tracy. Let's I feel like a classic four. Mike popped in with the most frank. Talk about it and Anthony's piece he's like. I'd like to think that there are a lot of factors for maybe he doesn't want to tune in I don't know what the hell it is but please don't tell me it's because it's a movie about women just can't believe we're still having this fucking discussion. Where movies by men and about men and four men are considered default movies and women's movies fall into the separate and unequal category? It's absurd yeah I know love Tracy Letts and and always has something great to say but I think he's right about that in some ways. I mean ah not to take anything away from any of the achievements of films like nineteen seventeen but it's just like it screened once and immediately was like on every list I and women's definitely been been struggling. I mean I personally having seen it. I don't know that I loved it as much as as lady bird and I think that Richard the the kind of critique that Richard had in his review. Where if you're not a huge little women fan which admittedly you know? I'm not I have not read the book Ma. Many many times it can be a little hard to follow and it may function in some ways as a companion for people who love the book then as film sending him his own right Richard made that point. I kind of agreed with it so I do think there are other things involved here. It's not just pure in my view discrimination but but maybe maybe I'm totally wrong. I would like to know what you both think. Well I mean. I don't think you're on for our little discussion. Make but I agree with Richard completely and like so as a as a woman I could tell us not just men who feel this way I think the there's something about I mean. I've already talked about this. I don't WanNA knock them because there's a lot I did like about the movie but I do think that if you don't go in knowing the source material the way that is The hop skip through the plot can be disorienting. Thanks yeah I think I'm the biggest little women supporter on this podcast which Although Mike when you say like it's no lady bird like Labor but also like two thousand one space odyssey is no lady bird for me like. That's the pinnacle of filming for you and I watch it at nine. AM IN TORONTO. Ron and cry coffees. We ran into Richard after Richard. What is wrong with you? Why don't you think this is a masterpiece him ever since but anyway I mean the thing with little women is like a whether or not you think it's good movie the fact that people aren't going to see it is insane and like that's that's an embarrassment for everybody and then you see movies that you know maybe don't feel accomplished accomplished or that? Big a fan of for me like bombshell kind of making its way SM- like sailing through all these precursors while little women's struggles..

"Hello and welcome to a little gold man the awards podcast from Vanity Fair. It's such an honor to present the next award the nominees and the group Bills Pandya and I can't deny the fact that you like me on the mistake light you guys won best picture. I'm Katie Richard the deputy editor of Vanity Fair Dot Com and I'm here with our chief critic Richard Lawson Hello and our senior editor Joann Robinson Hi Katie. We are back for the holidays. I hope you all enjoyed our interviews with Jack Rayner Inland Shelton last week it was really fun for me to talk to Lynn really fun for me to listen to Richard Talk to Jack Rayner and then look at Jack's instagram which made me feel incredibly stupid for all of the movies that I have not seen that he knows everything about <hes> A and maybe it'll make me less scared of midsummer when I finally work up the guts to see it anyway we're back and we are really close to the emmy nominations announcements well. She'll be out next Tuesday. We're GONNA have a special episode talking about them right after they happen. Uh so this is the week to predict what's actually going to get nominated as we've been talking about for months but there's a couple of little movie things we wanted to talk about before we get into that and this week is the release of Lulu Wings for a well which has been really I think probably the most successful movie out of Sundance like Buzz wise like people just adored Gortat and Richard You. The only one is one of us seen it so I kind of just wanted to give you a chance to. I don't know tell everyone how great the farewell is yeah. I think if there's going to be a sleeper indie hit of the summer which <hes> we've not really had yet although against midsummer could count <hes> on that regard the farewell would be it because it's got stuff to please those looking for artistry and interesting casting and filmmaking <hes> but also it's a crowd pleaser family drama thirty with you know aquafina popular actress from Oceans Eight and other things so I think it satisfies two different needs that people you might have in this pretty dull movie summer so I I have high hopes for it. <hes> you know hopes all the way that could you know to the Oscars because I think it's screenplay. At least <hes> could be a thing although I know Mike is also agitating for an acting nomination with the Aquafina who had the acting buzzer. Is that someone else on the cast well Aquafina maybe but really I think the one that <hes> Mike is is into issue Zhen Jiao who plays the grandmother who <hes> is the centerpiece of the story and in some ways the film <hes> and I think that would be really exciting because she really is great. I believe she's a first time actress which is well at least. It's this her first credit on I._M._D._b.. So that could be out. We'll narrative lead to operates IOS situation all over again. Yeah yeah something something along those lines sure <hes> and I I mean I could see it because it's hard not to fall in love with her character. You know the movie roughly is about a family all descending on in their home city in China Aquafina character from from New York City to the celebrate a wedding extensively but actually the grandmother's dying and I guess it is tradition in parts of China. If an elder person is dying of a disease you just don't tell them <hes> so they don't you know so they're not like constantly..

"Nets his entire life since he was a little boy watching the New Jersey nets go to the NBA finals with chasing Katie Richard Jefferson whatever the hell out and that's why Kevin Durant's in Brooklyn in these other reasons didn't factor in as much as what they are it's actually nice the you know its because everybody was speculating in using an and everybody was talking about this was this problem here that problem there you know maybe the next aren't as bad off as we think with the front office maybe they have fixed some of their problems that they've had for over twenty years yeah on the other side of that this same organization mall same organization same company same owner and everything else you have all order my pairing go going to the garden yesterday just basically saying this is where I wanted to be this is why I always want to play for and again it is reported that he did take less money even though that still is a lot of money for the Rangers to pay and also you know a lot of years they believe that they're going to get at least five to six really good years out of this guy and he's going to bring personality to the Rangers and it's like you know you read these things and is the ice to how can you have two organizations under the same roof with the same owner and just the feeling is completely different up from one team to the other well you said yesterday is that Jim Dolan hired the right guy to run the Rangers and got out of the way Jim Dolan hired the wrong guys over and over and over again when it came to the next now if give me however the Glen Sather equivalent of basketball Jerry west Jerry west if somehow Jim Dolan had convinced Jerry west to run the Knicks they need to be looked at as the Rangers and you'd.

"How are you? Your morning, but we're pleased to have you. And I'm gonna turn you over to these guys to talk basketball in the second, and we'll get to the new show. But I just want to start the conversation with this as you guys have wrought boogie cousins into the mix. You basically dominated the NBA each of the last two years and won the championship. Now, you add cousins and you've won fifteen out of sixteen. How would you compare? How good your team is right now to the teams you've had the last two seasons. Just a different group different dynamic. I think, you know, at in the markets to the groups and my debt can score and the low block just gives us a different just a different vibe around the team, and you know, and less as play different ways out there. So we're just trying to get better every single game. And I think we're integrating him produce move. Katie you guys obviously have dealt with a lot of static around this team. A lot of people asking the ton of questions about futures of each individual players, but have you guys kind of collectively dealt with all that. What a game is the most important thing when you get lost in the game. Whether it's shoot around in or game. It takes your mind away from all that other stuff. And we got a lot of players. I just love to play Katie, Richard Jefferson hair. I just wanted to I wanted to kind of ask you a question. What is it like going onto the court knowing that you are expected to win? And I know you always expect to win. But there's a very big difference between trying to prove something like, hey, I can win a championship. You've done multiple times now. But what is the different saying that I am expected? What is the motivation kind of there? Now. Was just take the motion out of the game. And you kind of not formula with was supposed to go out there to get a W. And you know, once you focus just on that. Then, you know, the motions that a game where you know, different runs. You don't really dive too deep into it. You just, you know, stay poised through everything. And you have a veteran group like that who's been through battles you understand as in flows over season of a game. And you know, you just know how to handle those things better. Kenny. What kind of things Steve Kerr doing locker room to kind of make tensions less right? Obviously. You got you're dealing with a lot of outside stuff. What people always come at the team. What kind of ways has he talked you guys through this whole process. Well, just about keeping things simple. You know? Always you know, you know, it goes back down to just make an extra pass when we think about stuff like that. They won't have time to worry about anything else off the court. So you know, we always trying to find extra pass to a great shot. And you know, I think that's that's what basketball is about. And once we dive deep into basketball, then you know, the rumors and everything else was around the team. Nobody don't mean. Too much. It's interesting that Steve is the coach of this team. Because he of course knows what it is to three peat having done that with the bulls and the late ninety s and I was a reporter covering that team. And I always marveled at their ability in particular, Michael Jordan's ability to make every game feel important, despite the fact that you were to defending champs, everyone is giving you their best shot every single night. And you know, the biggest games are still in front of you. Where does your team find the motivation night in night out to try to be your best? Was trying to be dominant on every single night. You know, we like I said, we know the formula to success for us as a group, but you know, trying to get up every night to be dominant. That's a tough thing. Mentally, and I think we've done such a great job over the last month, or so I was just locking in trying to be the best that we can be Katie. I see those two finals MVP trophies behind you. "There is no shortage of debate over health care what is the government's responsibility what his personal responsibility what's the right system i make ferguson thank you for staying with us on missouri viewpoints now it's unlikely that those debates are going to be settled anytime soon but while we're discussing yet let's ask another question how should behavioral health be included in that conversation katie richard is part of the team at the missouri coalition for community behavioral health care kitty welcome to missouri viewpoints thanks it's great let's start with a real basic and defined behavioral health care is that just another word for mental health or does that encompass something different so on behavioral health care on its face includes both mental health care but also have since she's disorders and so it's kind of all encompassing now on to ever transitioning to that behavioral health model we herod firm summer just a little bit ago referring to the foster the kids in foster care and they're seeing more children come into the foster care system because of the opioid igf we can i think technically call it an epidemic now in the state what kind of what kind of numbers of what kind of impact are we really see and we what's the reality of missouri right now when it comes to opioid abuse and opioid gaffes sure so um actually for the first time ever on the state of missouri is now experiencing on the number one cause an accidental deaths from opioid overdoses and so and that number in his in and of itself is staggering and but what we're also seeing is that the mortality rates for white citizens alone and i'm i'm referencing in missouri foundation for health study that they just came out with a couple weeks ago on those numbers have increased almost six hundred percent on that they've seen in the last twenty years have been overdose deaths as well as a thirty percent increase in suicides and that's also stems from a mental health disorders well we've opioid abuse is nothing new was kind of new that's huge in the.

"A combination of the two so we have what we call medication assisted treatment and what we like to do with that is prescribed medications that kind of suppress the desire to take opioids and then you get the counseling treatment on the back end of that that kind of couples together and and makes it a little easier for them i don't wanna say easier but it makes it more at more successful rate of them recovering we're visiting with katie richard from the missouri coalition for community behavioral health care thing i got them let me go to when you're looking at the legislative session that's ongoing right now and as we record this obviously there's a lot of drama there's a lot of conflict in there and that's not what we're talking about but you are promoting as far as your priorities what's your calling the mental health safety net yes what is that so department mental health certifies providers to provide these safety net services armed individuals that are outside of the medicaid realm and say you've got individuals who are on discharge from the forensic hospital for for instance or on a pregnant mother who is abusing drugs and so those are kind of a first priority for those providers to prescribe as i mentioned before the medication assisted treatment things like habits necessary that might not fall into the medicaid eligible what should the state do differently stay top doing or add to what they're doing when it comes to behavioral mental health and so one of our our main focuses this legislative session is a parody bill and in legislative parity or or behavioral health parity if you will is basically trading all behavioral health care the same as the rest of your body so if you were to have a heart disease you would have those any treatment or services at you need those will be covered we either in network are out of network.
