Border Patrol agents in the El Paso area are rescuing more and more migrants clinging to life. We encountered three females like in really bad shape, which is they were really ba hydrates. With many deaths happening in recent weeks, Border Patrol agents have rescued about 7000 migrants this year compared to a little more than 5000 during all of last year. Sometimes especially if someone's ordered print books and then other times they're just not even tracking it for whatever reason so you're gonna wanna make sure that you always double check everything you can look at your total sales of a given title or titles general doing ads on all of them versus the amazon ads reported. Sales had an old friend of mine. Big out to him We'll just say. His name's darren and darren and i used to talk about this and i used to cringe when he'd say well i noticed they had some sales increase way more but it's not being tracked as ads in my ads dashboard. I was like now. You can't count those. Were organic and you know erin. Actually wasn't inaccurate. Actually if you see a correlation between running ads in book sales increasing than probably make pretty assumption that those ads are working even if it's not being tracked accurately through amazon ads with that being said anytime you have an ad and you're looking at it and you're going oh my gosh. The acosta's two hundred percent. Now though i get no that's it. Now i'm out i'm out. Don't kill that. Never kill an ad without knowing this first knowing okay. Should You Publish a Book on Amazon Only or Publish Wide?
"Yeah. Are we're going to talk about Amazon and publishing wide. What exactly is publishing? Why before we go into things we here's some people's publishing. Why was that mean, what do you mean? Isn't it publishing? Why when you go Amazon, not necessarily that's just going in one particular avenue when you publish wide you're utilizing every resource and platform, you can't get your content into as many hands as possible. Some people make quite a living at it and other people try to bubbas line in. They don't do. So. Well, so. Can't we publish wide? Anyway, is there any kind of limitations were going to kind of suss that out because? Yeah, we can publish wide technically on e books print and audio books. But the latter will the first and the ladder of the three the exception is e books any books enrolled in the Katie p select program cannot be published. Why because you're doing an agreement with kindle direct publishing that says this will stay exclusive to your platform. So when you agree to that that ninety day period, your e book is locked in. And should you try to test your luck? And I know many authors of done this. They've tried to publish elsewhere. While still inside the kindle direct publishing program a slick program excuse me, and it was on discovers it. They have you know, some type of software out there. That's probably crawling the interwebs and looking out of the stores, and then checking the content and when they find that it's being published elsewhere despite being in an exclusive con. Attract they pull everything I know. Derek Murphy, actually, a great great guy contin create over on YouTube that actually shared some of his personal woes because he accidentally had opted into the Katie piece select program. Well, actually purposely did it, but there was another area that he'd had it published wide. And he thought it was delisted, but it wasn't delisted. So Amazon came in and was like, that's it you're out and they pulled Katy select from him. And I don't think he had hold off for about a year you'd have to look that up. Right. The other exception of exclusively is going to be a c x. And if you do the agreement of the forty percent royalty program than you're or -greeing to keep your audible content through audiobook creation exchange. Now, there's the twenty five percent model. I would say that if you ever want to go publish wide you may want to consider twenty five percent. In fact, there are other by the way, there's others inside the game. I get a lot of people that are outside the US or outside US UK, Canada and Ireland the distribution areas that say, okay, I can't set up an account with ACS. That's okay. You've got find a way Boyce's, and you also have authors Republic those other two can honor foreign account. So just kind of FYI off the side. But any rate with Brent you much, it's it's any persons game. You're allowed to publish white anywhere. I don't know of any exceptions to exclusively clause in any website, at least to my knowledge right off the top of my head. So for the sake of conversation inside this particular podcast. We're going to focus on the book, so who should publish wide as the real question because not everyone should there are some people that would do best to stay exclusive to Amazon Katie p for their e books, and there's others that would do even better for themselves if they went wide, so the people who. Want to reach a wider audience, should publish wide. Don't limit yourself to Katie p select I would say get if you wanna get in as many hands as possible. Don't limit yourself to Katie select now people who don't care about Katie select they see that they're like, I don't want my book being lent anybody and getting cents on the dollar four pages. Read in there's some people that really truly believe that Katy select is highway robbery. I I'm not going to disagree with them. I'm not going to agree with them. Because you know, it's got its pros and cons, and we're not gonna be discussing the pros and cons of Katie select right now, and then there's also the other a lot of people who don't get a substantial boost from Katie piece elect. So I always recommend to newbies in anyone that really doesn't have a berm grasp on the fundamentals, or at least making about one thousand dollars or more per month in this particular business. I would say that is not a substantial earning. So if you've got a book. On there. And no one's checking it out. There's no page reads. There's no point you staying exclusive or let's say that you do have in rolled and you're getting marginal page flips. And it's influencing the rank, but there's no sales coming in. So glad we ran into you. Obviously, we're all feeling a little bit vulnerable. What Facebook and Google have on us is one thing. But when you start to think about the years of cleanup, we need to do it could get disturbing, but we need to start somewhere. So let's start with with Facebook's favorite company right now. Google Google plus leak is still pretty fresh. You know, the joke has been made, no one uses it, but most people have accounts and don't even note. So for Google. Especially a lot of people that I talked to just even in my life where like, oh, I didn't think I had a profile, and then I checked and sure enough. I have one and this is because there was a period of time where Google was requiring users to create a profile in order to do other things like post to YouTube was one of the examples. So yeah, so it's fairly straightforward and easy to to shut that one down and Google is shutting down Google plus for consumers over the next ten months. So they will be getting rid of them, but it's good to just be doing this. You know, I think of it is like spring cleaning in the fall. So you know, start with Google plus, and then you know you're gonna wanna move onto all the other ones that you've forgotten about. Let's move onto Facebook. A lot of people have been having these hearts, two hearts with themselves about whether they deleted. I'm actually not on it, and I thought I deleted my account, not so I realized idea activated it another loophole consider. So what should we know? This is so common. I mean for people to. Think that they've deleted it only to learn that they've deactivated at. And you know, part of this is probably because when you go to Facebook help pages about how to do this, they, you know, the de-activation information is is higher up than the deletion information because they would prefer to keep you as a user. So deactivating your account doesn't actually do much. It makes it so people can't search for you and you know your profile won't show up if if I were to type in your name, but all your data is is still there. It's it's almost like I dunno snoozing your account almost in really just doesn't have that much of an effect in the sense of, you know, nothing's gone, deleting, just take some extra steps and you know you wanna I, I think it's a good idea to download your data file before you delete because there might, I mean a lot of people, but on Facebook for years and years now and might have information in there that they don't want to get rid of. So you know, there's a fairly straightforward process in terms of finding were to download your data and then the vile will arrive in your Email inbox. And it comes really quick. I've done this multiple times and done stories about what information you'll find in there by downloaded my data yesterday and it arrived in my Email inbox within a few minutes. So that's a really quick process. And then you know, you find the delete button and actually delete after you've done that, though. Facebook does give you thirty days to change your mind affectively. So you just want to be careful about, like if you've made the decision that you want to delete permanently and you've got like password information and log information saved in your browser or like if you type in FAA see something and my, you know, pop up, log you in and then that would affectively undo the deletion process. If it's within thirty days of when you cancelled your account, could to know you came up with a really solid list. I encourage listeners to check out katie's piece at wsj.com plush tech because there's a lot we can. There's a whole rabbit hole we could fall into in terms of cleanup here. One thing I want to make sure we hit upon is our Email accounts. It's been a lot of years. Some of us more. Than others have opened many Email accounts. What's one way we can really tackle the wealth of you know accounts that may have come our way and gone our way. I mean, once one step would be if you have a, if you have a password manager to go through and look at the list of saved Loggins if you've been using one for a while, you might have quite a few, you know, Email accounts and other social media accounts and website accounts and all that. And then also I found like one of the best things to do is just typing and welcome to in your various Email, inboxes, find different things that you've signed up for, and then you can kind of start making a list of your own. But I mean, if it's mostly like if you think about it, you know if you haven't used an Email account and years and years, there's just not really a good reason to keep it open. I mean, it's different if you maintain separate spam accounts or accounts where you want, you know everything to go that you don't. You know, that's kind of nonessential, but these these really old ones, there's just not much of a good reason to have it lying around and a security. Researcher who has spoke with recommended for you know any account that's got any kind of personal information for it that you wouldn't want to get out there that just changed the information to like Demi information before you actually delete it. And the reason for this is that you know, he says there's a strong likelihood that companies don't wipe all the data. So they might have like databases of a database of closed accounts. And if there was say a, you know a breach of that company or that website that you know the data on the closed accounts could include your own. So it's just an extra step. You can take to protect yourself and you know to make it so that if there is a breach on a site that you've stopped using and they did have that data in there, the information that
