Don't Get Paralysis of the Analysis (Hour 1)

"Live from the headquarters of Ramsey solutions broadcasting from the dollar car rental studios. It's the Dave Ramsey show where dad is dumb cash is king paid off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice. I'm Dave Ramsey into your host. Thank you for joining us. Open phones at triple eight eight two five five two two five. That's triple eight eight to five five to two five starting off. This hour is going to be jared and California. Merry Christmas jarrod. How're you merry Christmas Day? I'm doing great. How about yourself better than I deserve? How can I help So the reason for my call is Me and my wife did your Financial Peace University Couple a couple of years ago. It's been life changing for us We're onto baby steps four through six now and we're starting to save up for next automobile. You'll purchase which we hope to do with cash of course My question for you. Is that cash that I'm saving for the new car. Should I to keep that liquid with my emergency fund or should I be investing in my neutral fund portfolio so that it grows faster and I can reach my goal sooner. Well if you're investing for less than five years you take the chance of going down as much as you take the chance of going up. Mutual Fund mutual funds. The you know. Generally if you remember from financial versity ninety seven percent of the five year periods of made money on the stock market but only sixty seven percent of the three year periods. Have so so you have one in three chance of actually losing money when you're playing with three years and I suspect you're not saving very long this car right right. It would be around the five year. Mark don't ruin site for five years for a car Yeah right now we're driving. TC Dan but we plan on having more kids so at some point. We're going to have to upgrade to a mini van or something like that. Yeah cool okay so much would you be saving towards the car Ideally twenty twenty to thirty care. Okay over five years all right so let's just take Twenty k. a on Five years is four thousand dollars a year right. Yep and let's say you made ten percent on versus one percent. That's a four hundred dollar swing per year so it doesn't make or break the deal because the actual dollars that you would make during the period of time would be you know if you made ten percent versus one percent as an example through the period of time you might make fifteen hundred bucks or something through the period of time but it doesn't mean you get to buy a car because of this or you don't get to buy a car because you didn't put the money in mutual fund more in other words ninety eight ninety nine percent of the money is going to be you. You put the money in the account. It's not going to be growth. mathematically and so the more you put in the account the faster you're GonNa get your van as what it amounts to Um so you can do either one. It's not gonNA destroy you. Keep you from getting a car if it went down in value but it's more of a theoretical discussion than it is an the actual dollars that moved the needle and so that's sometimes what you can get caught up in in this personal. Finance game is all these people have theoretical discussions discussions instead of exactly what really happens. Hey thanks for the call open phones at triple eight eight to five five to five. I'll give you an example one of those theoretical discussions. Okay you can do a roth. IRA can irregular. IRA and you can do six thousand dollars a year if you're under fifty years old. Okay now what happens is in reality in the real world. People just do six thousand dollars in a traditional are they. Put Six thousand dollars in the Roth but of course there's some dubar living in his mother's basement writing a blog about our Dave Ramsey doesn't understand mathematics when he tells people to do that. Because the when you actually look at the mathematics of it according to the in the basement and he's actually mathematically correct although I live out here in the real world not my mother's basement but mathematically what happens is in order to put the money in order to put six thousand dollars in her off you have to earn about eight thousand dollars or nine thousand dollars because you've got to high taxes. The money going into a roth is an after tax calculation in order to put six thousand dollars into a traditional you. You have to earn six thousand dollars because its pre-tax and so when you compare traditional with a Roth you're technically comparing nine thousand six thousand because it's an after tax investment if you wanted to do the arithmetic do the arithmetic properly and do it in a vacuum. That's fine but here's the real world. The real world is as people don't even think like that they just put six thousand dollars in and are just do it. And so you know. The net result of me getting everybody Ross's it's as if they're investing nine Ding Ding. So you know I came out way ahead but you know but I'm cheating of course because because people are getting rich faster and we can't have that if you're a victim and you're living your mother's basement so there you go I mean but that's in the real world. I mean Matthew. Yeah you have an arithmetic vacuum or a theoretical discussion of mathematics versus what people actually freaking do. And so if you'll start just kind of thinking through through what people are actually freaking do. Then you've gotta deal another thing. Is Everybody all upset about some mutual funds Charter Commission. Oh God you're going even if you pay a commission of fees the fees the matter one of the larger studies ever done by the Actuarial Association of America which is a group of nerds Found that seventy four percent of the reason that people won't end up building wealth in their investments is not the fees it is not the return on investment. It's not that they got twelve point. Four four and S and P was eleven point eight. It was not that you beat. The peer slightly. Didn't beat the S. and P. by a few points here half a point here they're seventy four four percent of the reason that people succeed in investing is because they actually invest. It's called the savings savings rate. Meaning you freaking. Put money into the account instead of sitting around sucking your thumb in the back booth of some bar having some kind of a discussion about mathematics. I can't do this in the fees and the Oh my God no chase. The and and you can't beat the S. and P. because everybody knows passive investing by the SNP because bill most mutual funds. Don't beat the S. and P. Just fast those are. The people ended up with money. The people that put money into investments or the people that have money and investments isn't that a shocking statistical correlation. I mean it's amazing. This idea that personal finances really eighty percent behavior. It's only twenty percent head knowledge coach. So I'm not suggesting you overpay fees and I'm not suggesting you by mutual funds that underperform but really that's not the secret secret is for you to not get paralysis of the analysis and analyze everything to the point that you do nothing do it. Just shut up and and do it and that's how people get rich. Isn't that amazing. The ones that actually do put money in investments. So the next time you're brother-in-law who's broke as a theoretical discussion about investing returns. Time all the returns come from people who put money in the account. This is the Dave Ramsey show. I got a call the other day and I thought it was worth talking about again. It was from wife wife looking for Life Insurance for family. She asked why I only recommend term life insurance instead of cash value plans like whole life. I usually explain how you over you pay for coverage earn a horrible rate of interest. And don't get your cash value when you die but this time I just had her. GO STRAIGHT TO ZANDER DOT COM and get a rate and then we compared right to the whole life plan and she immediately saw the huge savings. That's why I suggest that everyone goes zander. Dot Com or call them at eight hundred three. I five six forty two eighty two and get a free quote Thank you for joining us. America this is the Dave Ramsey show. Mike is in Indiana Indiana. Hey Mike Welcome to the show. Merry Christmas Christmas you too sir. How can I help out of the question I have four hundred seventy thousand dollars worth of rental property. That's three different duplexes. I figure I know about fifty thousand dollars a year. And that's after vacancies. They can see maintenance repairs all the other things and If I invest that fifty a year the next twenty years and then sell the house and it looks like I'll have about four point nine million but I was looking on your website if I sold them today at four hundred and seventy thousand and invested after the next twenty years. I'd have the same amount so I'm wondering what I'm missing and I just don't know what what to do you know what's what. What is it worth the trouble to rent all these things? All those years generally speaking good pieces of real estate will will make you more money than mutual funds will but they require. But there's a hassle factor. You you have to deal with these things called tenants and repair people and all these other things The the way to measure real estate accurately there are three places is that the return comes from in real estate. One is obviously like you said the cash on cash return which is the rents that come in net of all expenses expenses per year. That your cash on cash return on investment in addition to that the properties are going up in value the capital gains net on that that and so there's four hundred thousand dollars worth of property becomes worth a million or two million or whatever over a period of however many years and then the third thing is is that these properties are appreciable meaning. You probably have them on a depreciation schedule and that realizes you an actual cash tax savings which which means that some of your income whether it's from the rentals or otherwise is sheltered as a result of depreciating these properties. And there's an actual you paid X.. Number of dollars dollars less in taxes last year because of the depreciation schedule on those properties so that those dollars plus the increases in value plus the cash flows lows added together. Are What's called an internal rate of return and I are in an internal rate of return on real estate when you put it all on a sheet and you develop that out fairly sophisticated You should be probably making seventeen to eighteen percent on your money In your probably sounds like you're making around a a ten percent cash on cash so That means we'd be projecting in tax savings and an appreciation another seven percent a year as an example hampel most of my properties. I'm making that or more on the return on on the actual value of the property. Not on what I paid for them so I look at a piece of property I have today. Let's say I've got a million dollar piece of property today. Okay and look at that and say if I cashed it out I take take that million dollars and not get invested in mutual funds Cabana the piece of real estate. So that's what I saw. I want my return to be on the value. My rental return to be on the value. Oh you and I want my return. In increase in value and even the tax cut taxes not based on the value. But even I'm looking at the total returns based on what the properties worth not what I paid for because I have several pieces of property that are worth like a million dollars or five million dollars or whatever that I've got twenty cents on the dollar in my bottom and eight for nothing. Nothing and so. What I've got in them is not relevant in that? I'm looking at the value. Because it's what I could cash out of of US old. So we do an analysis on our properties individually a and as a portfolio each year At the end of the year to see how they're doing generally our our IRR's are between seventeen and twenty and our cash on cash is around around ten Depending on the type of property it is and so forth but again with a mutual fund. All I have to do is open the email and I know what that's the extent of my managing a mutual fund but with properties I. I've got a fulltime property management firm. Because I've got a large portfolio of real estate so so You know my son runs all of our real estate. And he's got a staff that does that you know and and so but so the net net net of all of that is what we're looking at. It is a of all the costs and so forth so I love real estate And but you should make more on it because you have to screw with it more so it's up to you. Do you WANNA own real estate or do you WanNa you know. Do you like the demand the process. I think you make more money if you don't mind being a landlord and you will do the good work of being fair with people in firm with people That you put in your property but not everybody's Wants to to do that. And that's okay. So I'm lopsided right now I've got a lot more real estate than I do in mutual funds because the real estate 'cause body so cheap and has gone up up so fast it's gotten out of balance But I like real estate morning like mutual funds so there you go but mutual funds are the best place to make your first three or four million because you can get started in there you can throw some money at them and you know like your 401k and that kind of stuff you ought to have you know million made and a half in your 401k. As you approach retirement easily everyone of you listening should So but you can. You can put in two hundred fifty or five hundred dollars thousand dollars or fifteen hundred dollars. You can't do that with real estate. Real estate requires a big chunk so roasted usually is going to become come later in your wealth building process you've gotten into are these properties early in your wealth building process and that's fine but if you WANNA hold them until retirement fine I would tell you I would do some mutual funds in addition to this though. Aw I would not be a hundred percent in either one unless you just hate one or the other. Some people hate real estate. So they're hundred percent mutual funds fine. That's okay and some people. People hate mutual funds are scared at the stock market or whatever then they get all their money in real estate. That's fine but real estate saying what we call a less efficient market meaning meaning. There are more bargains available There's few bargains on the stock market. Because so many people chasing so many digits at at the same time that that market becomes very efficient and a very efficient market meaning. The price charged is pretty much the price real estate. You can occasionally occasionally you can sneak up on a piece of property and get a deal. So that's what you're looking towards. I Rachel is GonNa be with US in North Carolina. Hi Rachel welcome to the Dave Ramsey. Show Hey Dave how're you deserve. What's up okay so my husband and I are financially Obese I guess you would say and we're ready to be Gazelle and hint. I have a question should I pay off. are eighty my eighty three thousand dollars and student loans as part of baby. Step to wait until baby step notion to save for retirement and mastery children all we need to get the student loans gone earned baby step two. Okay so what's your household income Now it's one hundred and forty three thousand nominal okay and what's your degree in On there 'cause they accounting and trump accounting well because I'm one of those In finance stupid professor type people that you talk about long was too. That's okay. They don't teach US personal finance in that. But at least you've got a degree that usable usable. It's not left handed puppetry or something and I'm proud of that's good. So you got a degree in accounting and your household income's one hundred forty five you've got eighty two in student loans. What else you got in debt? Not Not counting your house We have about six thousand dollars total in credit card. Thought we'd brought down to about Yeah it was. You don't have carpet fair. Ten Thousand No. No we have a lot of are just a little bit with a debt other than your eighty to know a lot of debt one hundred forty three thousand in debt okay. I'm so confused. Can I ask you how much do so. You've got eighty-three on your student loan. And you've got six thousand on USA credit cards right. Yep Nine one thousand dollars On one car and then the really stupid part of that we have Forty three thousand waller's on another car. We'll sell it. That is stupid salad of it. It's it's killing you and you guys roll up your sleeves. You should be debt free in two two and a half years posture Monacell in the car. Yes you pay off your student loan and baby step two. You GotTa get this mess coined up Kiddo. It's killing you. This is the Dave Ramsey show in the lobby of Ramsey solutions on the debt free stage Mike on Katie. You're with us. Hey guys how are Ya. Yeah good how are you dave better than I deserve. Merry Christmas Christmas. Welcome to Nashville. Where do you guys live in Columbus Ohio? Oh Fun cool great town love it. Well welcome here a debt free scream. How much have you paid off? We've paid off two hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars. Wow and how long did this take. Thank you took US forty nine months very good and your range of income during that time so we started about one twenty five and ended up about one sixty five very cool. What are you guys do for a living? I'm a teacher. I'm a district manager in automotive repair. Oh very good cool fun and what kind of debt was your two hundred twenty twenty seven thousand dollars. We're pretty normal day. We had credit card debt student loan car payments but the biggest part of our was our house. You Bet off your head looking at weird way to go you guys. Wow you're young to have a paid for house. That's awesome very cool. So how much of the two twenty eighty seven was the mortgage well about seventy of it was consumer debt then we knocked out first and then the rest of it was all the mortgage are one hundred fifty hundred and forty or so about that. Yeah all right cool. What's the house worth? Think we could sell for about two eighty right now and it's yours baby boomers I. I love it. How long you guys been married for thirteen years? Have you ever been debt free while you were married now. No not even close. I love it very good. Very good man. This feel great. I mean you've gotta be just your free. You don't even own your house. It's pretty exciting. Count Surreal isn't it is so surreal as fun. It just feel light as a feather. Yeah it's something else man. I'm so proud for y'all good job so so tell me what happened. Four years ago they put you on this journey. Well we were struggling. We're just living paycheck to paycheck and make a pretty good money. We're pretty happy with what we were making. But then we're doing our taxes and things like that where where's all the money going. Yeah and it was getting to the point. Where on Tuesdays and Wednesdays leading up to my payday can you go? Hey don't spend any money till Friday and that obviously arguments. Because I'm like well we have money coming in why. Why can't I go to lunch at work? This week Because we don't have any money Mike don't don't spend any money we're done and it was just a lot of tension and everything we were doing trying to figure it out ourselves and fix. It just wasn't didn't work and it was like quicksand. We're going backwards backwards backwards. Every great idea I had back then was not a great idea and we went to a good friend of ours wedding and it was one of those weddings where we know them. But we don't really know anybody else so we're sitting at one of those assigned seats tables on one side of us is a couple and another side of a financial show adviser and God bless the guy who's sitting next to us he's like well. I'm broke I could use a financial adviser and then we're just kind of sitting in the middle going interesting conversation station. Just keep our mouths shut and so they're talking about money and a couple of different things in the broke. Ice Wife has said we've been doing the right Daveramsey plan that's been really working and for us and then later in the conversation they said something about mortgage debt. And that's when I decided to open my mouth because I thought it was smart guy at the table which I wasn't gonNA said Well you're always gonNA have a mortgage and then his wife looked at me and I'll never forget the way she looked. I mean she was Dave Ramsey. Says you won't. I'd never even heard your name flippers. Flippers Daveramsey right. So that night when we got home from that wedding I got the total money makeover and read that book so fast. It's festive ever read a book in my life as Katie to read it and then we were off to the races at that point. It was like clarity like wash over us like this is what we have to do. Deliver alive so. How fast did you knock off the seventy the consumer debt about sixteen months? That's what I thought. Yeah okay very cool and then wreck. You broke records on the house. Yeah Yeah We. We bought our house pretty smart. We didn't have any. We're pretty good in it and then we got done with baby step three. We're looking at four or five and six and we're just trucking along on four or five six enjoying it and then Katie's like hey we gotta stay Gazelle intense. We have to get this house done. Can't live in a life where we're just gonNA talk about it. We got it. Do do in our behaviors were in place from knocking out. The sixteen to eighteen months will do muscle built up to be able to do it. And so you just leaned in and knocked it Out Yeah so we were game on time anything. That would bring an extra money. We're doing. That's impressive very weekend. So so really. Did the house about two and a half years from the time you knocked out the other. Yeah yeah that's very that's highly. That's very fast. The typicals about seven years just Italia so excellent. Well done so outside of the two who of you. Who are your biggest cheerleaders so our parents were really big cheerleaders? We had a couple of groups of friends that were really big cheerleaders. And they didn't. It didn't necessarily understand exactly what we were doing but they were supportive. So you know that really helped in our journey we have some good friends friends who may not be on the plan but they understand if you're going to hang out with us we're GonNa Cook at home or we're going to play EUCHRE. WE'RE NOT GONNA go out to dinner and I really. I knew you're GONNA ask question. I really feel like that's like the support we're looking for through that. They just really helped us stay on process. Absolutely that's very very cool. Good very good. So what do you tell people the key I mean you guys are how old are you. I'm thirty six. I'm thirty nine and you have a paid for house. We I mean you're officially. Yeah that's just so cool so doormat in front of our paid off house. That says weird people live here and nobody knows what it means that we're day Ramsey guy. That's perfect so what do you tell people the key to getting out of debt is it's a couple of different things in number one thinks teamwork the number one call that I hear on your podcast. That just breaks my heart is how do I get my spouse onboard. And it's just a blessing from God that Katie's been on board with this from the very beginning and I mean she says about you see is my accountability partner and I'm hers. You know in this journey you WanNa struggle and you WanNa buy stuff and sometimes I'm a guy and you know I might not even know it existed five minutes ago but now I have to have it. Yeah I'll definitely and that's where a wife comes in handy where hey we're not buying that ticket cold shower. Wait a week if you still want. Maybe we'll talk about putting in the House has done but move on Mike. We're getting done and and vice versa there so that and The envelope system and a budget. You know you gotta be on the budget. The budget is is the law and if we wrote it in the budget and we wrote aggressive budgets we were gonna hit that budget no matter what it is and like at the beginning of this. I had a really nice gun collection and I was big gun collector and going into Dave Ramsey plan. I'm like all right. We'll get rid of everything. I'll be super aggressive. Just don't touch the guns. Yeah there's no contracting uh-huh and we were three months from being done with the House and we're going to be two hundred dollars under budget and I had a glock. It was the first gun I ever bought. And it's very important to me But hidden that budget that month and not missing by two hundred dollars way more important to me with three months left so got rid of it and we did that so we would hit our number if we wrote it it was the law we had to do it. Well the good news is you. Don't have any payments so you can buy guns. Life is good good. What happened to me? I bought a few way way to go man. Congratulations you guys very cool. Katie what do you tell people the key to getting out of debt is definitely to have your spouse on board I well admits that I was a little hesitant. At first I cried our first couple budget meetings. They thought he was taking everything from me. Then I learned that I didn't really need all that stuff. So Yeah it's getting your spouse onboard and being on the same page so but eventually by the third budget meeting you had a vote. I did later on you. Start taking stuff away from him. turnabouts fair play right so this is the way it's supposed to be right there. Well done you guys and the young men are what are your so your your sons are what age names this is Matt. He's eleven And this is landry. And he's eight. Okay so our were they involved. They know what's going on definitely that very much so I know mom and dad pay changed their family tree yes there's never going back now. I mean this is generational change. Yeah well done aright. Count it down you guys Michael. Katie Matt and Landry Columbus Ohio. Two hundred twenty seven thousand paid off in forty nine months. Megan one twenty five to one sixty five awesome baby countdown. Let's say a debt free scream three two one. Aw Forty years old. Yeah this. This is the Dave Ramsey show Eddie is in Florida. I Eddie welcome to the Dave Ramsey. Show Dave Larry Christmas. Merry Christmas to you. What's what's up? I'm on baby. The baby step two. I got nothing left. Life's Camry I owe twelve gran on it and my house one twenty four and I got forty eight and cash twelve and gold coins. And that's it. I think you misunderstood what baby step two is to is. You have sold everything except retirement Karma funds to be out of debt so you write a check today and be debt free except Your House. Pay off the car yes sir like like eight weeks ago. Yeah but you know her. Two months pregnant with our second child. Okay but you got forty thousand dollars how much you say you're in the savings forty eight forty eight zero twelve on the car. Yeah Yeah so you got thirty. Six Thousand Bucks left in the account a baby on the way you'll be ok well and I got 401k's I can do match but here's my question. This wasn't in the plan and it's something I wanted to do for a long time ago. My wife twelve years. She lost both your parents her brothers on disability and He's in a bad neighborhood. And a bad apartment and I have an an opportunity to put twenty percent down on small house around the corner from us. Take out a second mortgage you his chuckled. Cover the mortgage and moving closer to us. But I'll have two mortgages will have one on my house and one on his house and he'll be able to pay for it. I'm handy I put a roof on her own house. I just didn't know this would end up sinking our step. Five should just stick to the plan and do this ten years from now or I don't know 'cause none of the other babies baby on the way and that's Kinda my main focus. Yeah it should be. You need to have an emergency fund set aside out of your debt free and out of your uh-huh your coins and your emergency fund of three to six months set aside out of that And then you start baby steps four five and six which is fifteen percent of your income going going into retirement Start talking about kids. College Fund when baby comes and Then we start talking about paying off. Your home are quick as you can. What is your household income shifty serie six three or five three five three total monthly expenses or twenty seven hundred includes food and utilities and everything? Okay so let's say ten thousand of the thirty six aside the remaining after the camry as your Emergency Fund that leaves us Twenty Six and you should twelve in gold coins right. Yeah which puts us back to forty eight or thirty eight. I'm sorry thirty. Thirty Eight That we put towards the hundred and twenty four on the House and now the House that no this is all after Obama. Mama comes home with with the baby maybe but Now you only owe like eighty thousand dollars on your house and you make fifty thousand. It's not ten years. It's about three years four years you're going to have your house paid off. Yeah so finance mortgage in a second. How No one hundred twenty thousand dollar house but my brother in law and you if if you need help him help him a little bit with cash flow renting something better than where he is until you can get your house paid off and you can save up and pay cash for the house you move him into? We quit borrowing money. That's how we get out of debt broker. And so that's what I would do. I love that you want to help him. And I love that. You've got this angst pulling in your brain between taking care of your child and helping you. brother-in-law you're just giving guy your guy that wants to help everybody and that's a good thing what you have to do Most on you're probably spender to spend most of us that are spenders are givers. And so What I figured out though a few years ago was the if I'll manage the spending and keep things prioritized? It enables me to become wealthy or so that I can give more and it changes my giving. So that's what I want you to do And don't let your giving keep your wealthy your wealth from building. which will we'll keep you from giving so That's you've just got to keep their stuff prioritize so I don't mind you helping him at. I would not buy a house until you can pay cash for it after your home is paid off. But I don't think that's put about three years from now that the house was paid off and then shortly after that with no house payments payments of any kind. I mean you work an extra job and even save money to Buffalo House. Pretty quick to put him in and then he can pay you rent equal to his income. Or whatever if you wanted to do that which would be pure cash flow or you could just live there if you wanted to as active as a ministry. You're just an act of taking care of him or something and it wouldn't kill you 'cause it's paid for it changes the game when it's paid for or something happened and he just took off and they're your health left holding that house and you've got a payment. He's not paying the payment anymore. You know you're stuck now. You've got a relationship where you're brother-in-law strained and we just don't be in all of that so pick your house paid off and then save up and pay cash. No I I would not buy rental right now and those are the reasons behind it so that you can be in a position to do more even even more later Jenna is whether it's in. Kansas insys hygienic. Welcome to the Dave Ramsey show. Hi Dave thank you so much time to talk to me. Certainly how can I help. Yeah so my husband and I are married for five years and we are at a point. Where disgusted and tired and we're ready to finally get out of debt? We met on our budget and our plan and we feel like we can have our ninety seven thousand dollars. thinking similar got paid off in about two to three years maximum great And my question is though we know how much we can throw it our debt monthly but we bought a home three years ago and we I have a relatively low mortgage so we know a good place to stay and allow us to pay off even more but the houses falling apart in some regards It's seventy five years old and it needs some serious repair that I just don't know how to budget for those or parents that are necessary That we can't wait until three years ago is five to six M. Well you slow down. You're getting out of debt and you pay cash for the repairs or you. Don't do them okay. So he just prioritize them and go from there. What about just selling the money pit and moving? We don't have Very much equity in the house show so I guess I just don't know really what that looks like so if you sold it and you broke even and you went and rented something. You're not having to write checks for repairs every month while you're trying to get out of debt and you just increase the quality all of your life because you're living in a dump. Yeah absolutely salad option. I just get rid of it. Here's what happens ends with most people when they buy a house to do a renovation while they're living in it in sucks the marrow out of your bones. That's where for the money you ever say that that old movie was cheesiest crud called the money pit. Yeah it was an overdrawn dramatization of how most people feel when they do renovation. While they're living in the the house it's a very difficult thing to do emotionally to renovate a house over a four or five year period of time while you're living in it. It drains issue ranger relationship. Drains your money. It may get tired of dealing with the wrap. Am I wrong am I wrong. Yeah Oh okay. That's that's where that's where most people we'll go. All Together Now: Fridays with The Moth - Aydrea Walden & Katie Vaca

"We've all been in lockdown for months glued to the news Russian political, meddling an economic meltdown, and of course, the global pandemic join Rund Abdelfatta and Ron. Team Arab Louis, the hosts of through line NPR's history podcast from typhoid. Mary forced into quarantine for thirty years to conspiracy theories and all American pastime through line. Make sense of today by diving into the past listened to through line from NPR every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to altogether now Fridays with the moth. I'm your host for this week Dame Wilburn. This mov altogether now is all about connection. What happens when we're truly honest with others and ourselves which while we're being honest is easier. Said than done. So they are stories are about the lesson beautiful moments on the path to connection. Our first story is from Adria Walden. Adria told this story at a Los Angeles story, Slam where the theme of the night was envy. Here's Adria live at the mouth. So. I. Don't think any of you know this girl, but trust me when I say, it was ridiculous. Rich Julia was her gay community was so gated. There was like a gate around every house. It was ridiculous. How many horses she had. And it was suber ridiculous that I even cared about this in the first place because. It was a fifteen year old child and I was a thirty year old woman who really should have had my life together. I did not have my life together and that's all I knew. That's why I knew Julia and the first place because thanks to a divorce and the recession I had been demoted from living live with a normal respectable human being person and was now living life as a driver's Ed instructor. I do not recommend living life as a driver's ED instructor. First of all, there's a uniform, not like a cool uniform like doctors are astronauts get to wear this uniform all khaki, and it makes everyone who wears it regardless of gender or body type. Look like they have man boobs and late, hips. and. The second thing about being a driver's Ed instructor is that you are being driver's Ed. Instructor. And considering all those going wrong in my life. I. Probably shouldn't have cared so much about Julia's except that Julia was both everything I wanted to be when I was her age and she was doing everything I wanted to do now. She was a ballet dancer I was a kid. I loved ballets so much and wanted to be a ballet dancer. But when I told my mom, I wanted to start taking ballet lessons. She told me pretty definitively. I was too fat to be a ballerina, but that's okay. Because black people don't get skinny anyway. Why don't you be an engineer like your Danley me alone? So not only did Julia get to take ballet lessons. She had a mom who liked her. Julia. Julia also had like three cars at fifteen, and at thirty one I had zero cars because my car had been stolen rent controlled apartment. Pretty Awesome. Being the only member of that apartment complex was not also affiliated with the Canoga Park Alabama. Street? Gang. Came with some baggage. Julius House also had heat, and at the time I was like around of every night because that was the only utility I couldn't afford to turn on. And I didn't think that I dislike her any more until it was like December, and then I made the mistake of asking her what she was. GonNa do over the holidays and she goes, Oh, we're going to Hawaii again, it sucks I. Don't want it to be lying. It's we. It is with people who love you sounds sounds absolutely horrible you. Can drive a stick. But you can't say that to a kid. So instead said Oh Hawaii that sounds fine. What do you like to do there and she goes? Oh I have been so many times. I. Don't even do anything anymore. I wanted to say your horrible human being. But you can't say that to a kid. So instead I said you're right. That does suck. What about the new, year, any fun resolutions and she goes. I just hope next year is better than this year I. Knew She Brooklyn for the boyfriend by care because I was going through eight to, and she was going to be over this guy, but like next semester. You can't say that to a kid. So, instead I said, Oh, is it because of Michael and she goes that and I really hope my back gets better. And then she told me about how she was almost paralysed. So yes, she was a ballet dancer. She'd been dancing at an elite level. She was a little kid and she told me all in all on and on about the practices and shows and the competitions and also had wonderful, and then she started talking about how that year when she get done with a practice, her arms and legs. Legs feel really tinguely and they started like burning, and sometimes you can feel them at all and how she started taking Ibuprofen because it was so painful. Every proven like candy incidents was so painful like that one help and she's rapping icebox to her body all day. Long that didn't help and how one day she laid down after a show to relax and she couldn't get up again. As a stress fracture vertebrae, the doctor ordered her off of her feet and out of the toe shoes probably forever. And she goes I don't really know who to be. I totally got that because I was going through a big shake with my life to. As we got back to her house and I looked at her giant mansion in or horses, cars, and all stuff, and it was like it didn't matter how much stuff she had or how expensive it was because if she didn't have that one thing that made her feel awesome. It was pretty worthless. You probably shouldn't say that to A. Kid. So instead, I told her very honestly that I hoped that she had an awesome trip to Hawaii. Thank you. That was Adria Walden. Since putting away her driving Khakis. Has Written for animated shows on Disney Netflix, and Amazon. She was also the host of the twenty twenty Nebula awards and created the Webby nominated Jane. Themed Web series, black. Girl, and a big dress. Next up this week Katie. Vaca. Katie told this story at Phoenix Story Slam where the theme of the night was animals. Here's Cayden. At the. I love to hate cats, I come from a family that doesn't particularly care for cats. In fact, my mom, not only disliked cats very much, but she has an actual cat phobia and like any good old-fashioned. additioning not fear has been passed down to me and despite my best efforts to avoid these creatures, some how they have highlighted some pretty important moments in my life. The very first conversation I had with my husband was regarding cats. In two, thousand and nine. My sister's dog had illiterate puppies and his family took my favorite one. I. Don't remember exactly what I said, but I sent him a message on facebook saying something along the lines of. I'm so happy for you guys. She's the best I do have remember exactly what my husband said to me. It was one sentence in it read. I'm more of a cat person. And I thought to myself. This guy is rude. Andy's a cat person. That's two strikes. But my husband also happens to be tall dark and handsome. So what are you going to do a year? Later? We started dating and things got pretty serious and we started to spend a lot of time together, and as a result spent a lot time with his cat frank frank was an indoor outdoor Tabby, a really proficient hunter, and he would bring in sometimes living sometimes dead lizards, mice, hummingbirds, and although I'm told us as a sign of love and affection, I did not care for having a half decapitated lizard dropped into my lap. Immersion therapy for me. I was having reoccurring nightmares that thousands of cats were coming in from every window and door of my house going to scratch off my face. But. I had to make a decision was falling in love with this rude cat guy and frank came along with him. So I decided to learn about frank and as learned about him, my fear started to lessen and we developed a bond. He greet me at the door when I would walk in and roll around on his back. It was pretty cute I would give him my shoes to indulge his weird weird shoe fetish. meow scratch incessantly at my door at four in the morning to let me know he wanted his food bowl topped off. And as time went on our bond grew stronger and he really became my first cat friend. In two, thousand and fifteen, I got a call from a dear childhood friend of mine, MAP and I don't have enough time to tell you all the things. I'd like to tell you about Matt, but I'd like to highlight my favorite qualities about him magnetic, hilarious, intelligent, and I love to spend time with him. And I'll never forget it. I was pacing around as US, explaining to me that he hadn't been feeling well, and he went to the doctor and they discovered that his colon was covered in tumors and he was diagnosed with a really aggressive form of colon cancer, and I know there's many of you out there that can empathize with the feeling of your gut dropping and desperately wanting to do or say something to make something go away and there's nothing. He had a girlfriend that uprooted her life in Los Angeles to be here with him during his course of treatment, and I started a feel real push and pull. The push wanting to spend all the time that I with my friend and tell him everything I was thinking and feeling and the poll of not wanting to be intrusive during a sensitive time. I didn't want to take away time that he could be spending with other people and I did not want to remind my friend that he was sick. So I was reserved to keeping it really light and checking in hey, how's it going? Thinking of you praying for you? Let me know if you need anything and that was it. And two thousand, Seventeen Matt died and I was devastated and I felt this deep feeling of regret not having had the opportunity. But more importantly, the courage to told my friend, how much he meant to me while he was here. I didn't tell him that I loved him. I. Didn't tell him that he had changed my life for the better I didn't tell him that he was one of the best people I had the privilege of knowing and I didn't tell him. How much I would miss him when he was gone. Later. That year his girlfriend decided it was time to get her life back on track and moved back to California. And in the process, she couldn't bring her cat with her to the apartment she had found and without hesitation I said, I would take him and I immediately started having anxiety because while I knew and liked ship frank, my husband's cat I was not sold on cats I was still really scared of them and I had visions of this thing coming into my life and being really mean in destroying my house. But I did without hesitation because it felt like something I could grab onto something that I could do for my friend by lightening the load for someone that had loved and cared for him during his time of need. And for me aside from taking a massive dump on my brand new couch, the first night he was in our home. Juan Carlos the giant Russian blue cat is. One of the nicest animals you'll ever meet. He's a stage five clinger. He wants to snuggle me from head to toe and he's part of the family name in the fall of last year. Frank got really sick. My husband's cat my first cat friend and he was dying of kidney failure. And we had to take him to the vet for the awful vet appointment that I had only ever heard about. My husband and I drove home with our empty pet carrier We crawled into bed with Juan Carlos. I thought I. Got My friend Ma. I thought about frank and I cried I cried over a cat. I cried over one cat as I was deeply comforted by another and now I hate to love cats. Thank you. That was Katie. Back. Katie is an Arizona native, and she is working on her master's degree in marriage and couples therapy. This was Katie's first story at the moth, and she says telling the story was incredibly therapeutic. I was able to share it with mets parents, and I can tell how much they miss their son. I hope they can feel how much he has loved and remembered by his friends a testament to what an amazing person he was. As, for one Carlos, Katie says Juan Carlos is living large and in charge while he lacks the killer instinct and frank, he just caught his first lizard since we got him two years ago and he proudly delivered it just like Frank. Would he still demanding snuggles every chance he gets, and he always tears me up when I need it. Now, this story gives us the perfect excuse to show you all cat pictures. How did Keir Starmer do in his first PMQs?

"Coffeehouse shots is sponsored by. Look forward the podcast from Rathbun's what the future might look like find out more at rathbone. Look FORWARD DOT com. Hello AND WELCOME TO COFFEEHOUSE SHOTS SPECTATORS. Daily Politics podcast. I'm John Connolly. I'm joined today by James and Katie bills today marked. The return of PM cues after the extended Easter recess. But it was not pm cues as we know it for starters. Kissed Armor had replaced Jeremy Corbyn as leader the Labor Party and he faced off against Dominic Robb who stunning in for Boris Johnson. And it was a semi virtual session as well with many. Mp's doing questions via video link. Ralph them from the floor. Starting with kissed James. How do you reckon he did his first? Pm Cues and was a big departure from the Corbin era. Almost NEVER GONNA. Kinda set the head writers of parliamentary before. But he was fall better than Jeremy Corbyn. Moore's he's questions with detailed and in a crucial difference. Jeremy Corbyn Actually GonNA follow it up. Dominic Robb said in response rather than sticking to the same six questions. Come what may of what the session was more political than I had expected and I think that's actually a good thing. I think. The Challenge Accountability to the strengths the Westminster system and lead to better government. I've what we're going to take away session where the hundred thousand task by the end of the month is obviously if the government doesn't hit that and it looks like it won't ask that is going to be appropriate for kiss almost trying to present general test of governments competence in its handling of ours of all the other things we often dominate rob. What the governments to defenses are going to be about. Its handling of this pandemic when kids aren't being slow to go into lockdown during said. Look we follow this onto me. It's wise and you kissed armor really saying that you know of in the chief medical officer and the chief scientific advisor what action should have been taken went and then the second point. Don't rob later in the session was the government has managed to expand the NHS's capacity to prevent the system from being. I want and I think this is the one undisputable achievement in this crisis can give six weeks ago. We have been told there would be eight hundred deaths today at the peak. We always assumed but that would have meant that the house would have been essentially overrun and it hasn't been and that. That is the thing that the government can point to as its biggest achievement during this pandemic and starting testing I mean stomas sort of raised the difference between capacity and actual number of tests that are being carried out. Say Do you think rob had any sort of convincing answer? Katie about why? That's why there is that gap at the moment but he much defeat things that have already come up in terms of the press conferences in the sense that one of the issues is actually getting people to the testing centers where they are a lot of the time they are quite far. I H- you have people in homes. They were to make this huge journey to get that task and he said that was one of the issues and they were looking at having mobile stations. Easier access one's going forward but again. There were no plans when they would open. I think that it did strike me in. Pm keys quite a few things that his arms bring up things that we've had be brought up at the press conferences by Jan this but the former prime minister's questions and I think parliament in general. Just does you can apply a great leveler scrutiny to it and is easier to press to try and get an answer. I think as James Says. The government misses his target. Clearly they're going to get a lot of criticism for doing that. I think will be held up as examples when we want to make the case against the government of promises that could be delivered. Now number ten I think of clarified state. That even though rob was to admit capacity the hundred thousand talk is still one hundred thousand people being tested on. I think that does just show you how hard it is to reach that target. I could potentially imagine a scenario where the capacities up to one hundred thousand by the end of the month but even with that I mean a lot would have to happen in the final week to reach that but to go from the level of the number flashy taking their tests that level jump as it does seem really difficult right. Now and James Rob was pressed as well on p. p. and the cat service. How do you do in these questions? One Motel in just the government is. We don't have a nationally broadcast. I was which means getting accurate information about what is going on. In the Cath actor out there. Much more difficult you know. I think there is obviously going to be a big conversation about social office crisis. Unearth is going to be one of issues haunted. The problem is Katie. Said is the government says the test available for every social care worker. Who wants one but the problem is if you work long shifts in social care do you really want to go a mile and a half out of your way on your way home to go and be tested? I mean this is. This is the problem is they? Need some if they're gonNA hit on vows desperately in the month? I mean you need some mechanism by where people can be your health precious in the house and the care sector can be tested over their place of work or very close to the distance and vote at the moment. Awesome to great. I think is a challenge for the. Don't she's very much of it in this country. I think one thing we were here with boyzone's already talk cabinet coys by self sufficiency medical supplies. I mean not is going to become national self-sufficiency medical supplies. I mean that's going to become another thing that becomes an issue. Once you're through the crisis I mean the challenge. The government is every country in the world is trying to get hold of more moment and he. One of the boys at some ministers have played into question. The public wearing mosques is as you open up. The Economy. More and more people are going to want. Pp IF YOU'RE GONNA reopen schools fully rather just with this limited number of people's very limited number of people that are currently in schools and teachers requesting so the government is going to have to be getting more and more of stuff at a time when colluded with them on for is going through. The roof is going to be a real logistical challenge for the government and Katie Matt Hancock. The health secretary also gave an update stay in parliament. Did he sort of given a new information? I think there are a few interesting lines. Matt handcocks appearance in the Chamber. He was physically that and I. He said that he believed that. Currently is that the peak in terms of infections. And I think that's interesting because everything has been pointing to the idea it. May've just had the pay who released and that Jemele period but I think this is the first time he had said so. You said we are at the peak before we relax any social distancing rules or make changes to them if Saturday the five tasks that have to be met there was also an interesting line on contact tracing with Hancock suggesting that for that to be appropriate. Easing you're going to have to have contacted trace in place now. Concentrates as other countries probably more in the east had an means. You have probably more tense. Normality fuel locked measures. Because you have a team quite an advanced team that contest and trace and you can look at specific infections that way but I think when he talks about it does just give you a sense of how far away we are from perhaps that level of normality in intensive daily day say lives because as we were talking about earlier on this podcast. The government is struggling even to have one hundred thousand tests today target Matt and have contact tracing. You're gonNA need specific teams. Hugh working hard not just to get testing of Health Wak of individuals and then finding a lot of people have been in contact with so again. I think it's just another logistical challenge. That will have you met when you eventually come up with a full exit strategy. Now I don't think the invocation was that this will be needed in free weeks time because it's just not gonna be ready but there are some things you can ease small things without having them place but I think the comments are pointing to this idea that to have a the further easing. Which which would see more socializing with. I think that kind of thing. What the government is potentially looking at and in terms of the impacts of the lockdown. I think today male portion this front page today that something like seventy five percents of cancer referrals down. Did Hancock can have addressed. These concerns may been not enough people are using the NHL at the moment. James One for the government is trying to communicate. The moment is that you should still go to hospital. You would have gone to hospital normally beforehand because there is enough spec Pasadena Jeff. I think one of the things warring a loss of people in government right now and in the NHL is the number of people going to any US fallen off a cliff. Now some of that is because we were going to any previous you. And they didn't need to the warriors people are hesitating before calling ambulance or go into any and that is probably leading to more people dying of heart attacks and strokes them otherwise happened as also one of the things that is massively important in dealing with cancer. Recapturing early so are putting off gained. Gp BECAUSE OH VAT. That is another problem. Install up for down the line if you talked to some Tory huntings I say is the government has run its public health information campaign like isn't election campaign stare home protect the NHL save lives has been repeated as endlessly and as effectively as get brexit done. But the problem with that is it has created a climate in which people don't want people basically if there is any way but they can delay going outside interacting with other people especially going to adopt a surgery or hostile. People think there'd be a particularly high risk of encountering someone with Kobe. Nineteen people are choosing to stay at home and I think that is one of the big challenges. Undoubtedly one of the really high levels of compliance has been because the messaging has been so brutally effective. But how do you get to a slightly different message to make people think for you? Know if they're worried about a lump basically. It's still going to get it. Checked out and Katie. Do you have any updates? On the procurement of ventilators. There's some controversy yesterday about any you ventilator scheme what was going on their so siren. Mcdonald's appearance at this committee has reignited. The story is brought back to life so a few weeks ago there was a rabbit a badge that had not signed up to be part of the e event to procurement scheme or later on the PCP procurements game and it was suggested this perhaps ideological grads the idea that Brexit Tory government. It just didn't want to have any ties with the EU and therefore chose not to do something which could have helped the country as preparedness the UK government responded Hitachi been an communications era and they just had had not been aware that they could join the scheme handle since they have now joined a later batch of it so the first bit but later on there now in it for future then we had the top seven and the Foreign Office appear before the Foreign Affairs Select Committee and he said that it had been a political decision and minister had been briefed on it. Now this is very confusing given the seemed to go completely against the original line and then fairly late last night. We were told this communication was coming the civil servant wrote to the committee saying he wants to correct as evidence although he had said this he didn't actually mean it he had inadvertently misled the select committee and it wasn't the case. That was a political decision. Now is clearly very confusing. The comes around it but at the moment it does seem that the government line is the one that ever in is adhering to and the Civil. Seven has changed their mind. I think that probably the key thing there in the story is the fact that if you look at this procurement procedure not a single ventilator and a European country has yet reached the countries that did sign up to it in the first round and I think the similar with that will change in the coming weeks but right now he doesn't actually have isn't lacking in times of ventilators. So is one of those rows where I think it'd be a lot more potent even with the government's denials about you know why Mrs Scheme if we actually had a situation my European countries on mass a lot more ventilators than the U. K. and the U. K. Didn't at the moment. That isn't the case and James Decent. This is a bit of a storm in the COPA. Has WELL I? I've invented a fascinating example of how the medical thinking on this is evolving. I think again if you owe back about six weeks ago people for ventilators absolutely the most important single bit of medical equipment during this crisis. One of the things that's happened is but doctors have become less keen on using these mechanical ventilators in the treatment of the disease and they found that it's much more helpful to give pressurized oxygen earlier on the process to prevent people from having to go on a ventilator to in some ways the question venter's procurement which seem such a big issue at the start of his Christ is less important now I think. Pcp has turned out to be a bigger issue than people expected. I mean that is going to be returned because obviously as more and more become up they're going to be more public servants coming into contact with the public who are going to expect their employer. But he's essentially the government to provide them with that kit. Thank you James. Thank you Katie. And thank you for listening. Coffeehouse shots is sponsored by the rathbone. Look forward podcast. Ep 153 - Interview with Taylor Nolan

"You are listening to the reality Steve podcast with your health reality Steve He's got all the latest info and behind the scenes juice on Peter's upcoming season of the Bachelor and one happened this week and as far as Peter Season as I'm recording this right now we should be I'm still waiting to hear back on hometown dates I know pretty much who three of them are and I think meeting and Instagram instagram posting instagram's story the final four by the time you listen to this I might have it it might happen later on probably fifteen or twenty podcasts at one fifty at some point during the podcast someone has called me and you've probably heard the beep go through you all a lot of you email me and said hey this is what you need to do so it doesn't happen in this podcast and it looks like I have found the solution which is to schedule a time where hey podcast number one fifty three welcome I'm your host reality Steve it became public on Tuesday on her podcast and hit the media outlets and then of course our temptation island interview for the week we're going to be talking to Ashley Golson August I mentioned how does this do not disturb work on my phone because I've set up my phone to wear I haven't done it I've put on the do not disturb and yet who had a very interesting incident happened last episode of Temptation Island last Thursday where we saw that she had a she got intimate oh the dates that they're going to be I'm just waiting to find out the fourth by the time you hear this I'm out of order who did it out last night I don't know yet so pay attention I definitely will be on allowed to and hit hit do not disturb schedule a time that I'm going to record and just know that no calls will be able to get through that point so it doesn't happen this episode thank you all for tuning in got a real good show for you this week up i Taylor Nolan who just had a recent event in her life a break-up that was published maybe he was on Ashley Season How I forget anyway I do want to address something because a Libya Asir at the very end of the podcast he cheated on her boyfriend rick had sex with somebody else and now we're going to see the ramifications of that in tonight's episode at starts with today I don't know yet but a hundred percent sure on three of them I'm just waiting to hear on who the fourth one is so but a couple things I want to talk about one last week on the gene who is married to Blake from they were on Bachelor Pad Season Two Hall She had sex with K B two days into filming or whatever the I don't know the exact days but it was very early on filming and the full reaction that rick gave Before we get started a couple of things that I wanted to address that happened one happened last week it was on Matt Grant Season Blake was on got it forget what season was on what girls season what was Ashley now not Ashley about what happened between you and reality Steve because this is something I guess has been asked over the years and holly when she has been asked about it over the years has pretty much given and that's another thing I want to bring up that happened on Tuesday and it was an illiterate podcast she had on Holly Julie I've never addressed it I've addressed the fact that holly and I were once friends and now we weren't and here's the thing I have no problem with Libya asking that question Olivia even asked me before she had wholly on do you mind if I ask her I said no because I know people have asked about it over the years hard feelings towards holly I I don't know how and I have no idea I don't think she has any hard feelings toward me she's probably like Oh yeah he didn't like me because I didn't tell them they had an adoption they just got their daughter poppy a month ago I mean I'm good for her I'm I'm happy I don't want there to be any a story like this was ten years ago this is not something that I lose sleep over it's certainly not something that Holly Lose Sleep over I have no and then after Olivia did the podcast she asked me can I leave it in and I said Yeah I'm fine with it like and the reason I'm fine with it is because to me the same answer Oh Steve is mad at me because I didn't tell him I was going on bachelor pad to and that was the answer that she gave to Olivia on Tuesdays podcast and of her adoption story I think it's great I I'm happy for her somebody you know she struggled with having children going on bachelor pad that's there's more to it howling I have not spoken since the day before she left for Bachelor pad filming ten years ago or wherever it was nine years ago so let's get started There was a break-up recently involving someone in battery nation and that girl was Taylor no one and yeah that's the answer I expect her to give her and I've never spoken since then so she has no idea why I basically cut off all communication once she got back from filming but the last month that was really cool to read that was really happy to read that story and happy that she adopted so yeah so moving on from that so small and dumb and like I said it was ten years ago so to me it's not even a story so just know that I was fine with living Oh will here between me and holly there isn't I don't think about Holly and Holly certainly doesn't think about me I guarantee it it's only thought about when people bring it up so there's no reason to trample on anyone's you know grave or whatever you know I it is what it is it's not a big deal neither of us we no longer spoke after her season of Bachelor pad which is fine it's just there's no need to have a discussion over it was ten years ago holly doesn't need to their pregnancy issues that they've had over the years and so I know I know one thing that I remember from when holly and I were friends was she always wanted to be a mother and she's gotten that now probably doesn't care for an answer and I don't care to give her one it's it's just whatever so but I don't any ill-will toward holly at all I'm I I'm a fan of of of her and Blake and what happened with them with their Talk About Masturbation threesomes sex toys it's all brought up in this podcast I'm just giving you a heads with their adoption I congratulate them I hope things work out well I mean it looks like this is I mean this is something she's always wanted and ah certainly one of the more different interviews I've ever done and then after Taylor comes on we have Ashley Olsen from temptation island who are in each other's lives and that's fine there's plenty of people from this franchise that I once spoke to that I don't anymore and it's not this big major thing so let's not make it a big major the Internet Earlier this week and see that you are no longer with man you have kindling with Derek which we talk about as well and then things get a little different because we have some sex talk and if you feel uncomfortable listening to people saying let's congratulate Holli for everything that she went through and congratulate her on this her you know adopting a her daughter poppy I wanted to talk to her about it Taylor's been on the podcast Last July or August beginning of July end of July beginning of August last year it was about a month after break up with Derek broken up with I don't even know the guy's name I don't think any of us he's Canada man but obviously her break up with candidate Obama just breakup in general and kind of how things went and then the story that I read alluding to the fact that she would be open to possibly and now she's coming on again because I said Hey let's talk about this you don't need to go into detail and expect her to give any details of asking her I was fine with the Libyan leaving it in and I was fine with hollies answer that's now I can I can say that's not the reason but I know that's the reason that she believes they do it before I have to do it because it just makes me so uncomfortable and I hate doing it but this was actually the first time I the second time joining the podcast Taylor Nolan Taylor are you I'm doing well thanks for having me on again I'm excited to chat with you anything interesting his urine Seattle and he's obviously in Canada and I believe he was on the eastern side of Canada correct yeah yeah so he was in Toronto and we met at fireside conference whatever like initiated Real break-up conversation and it actually has felt like very empowering and vary but I know on occasion it has been brought up in the last ten years and I've said the same thing I just wasn't a friend I wasn't a fan of her after everything that went down and for oh so it was a little over a year that we dated and yeah it was actually my first time ever breaking up with but also emotional conversation you know so it was it was very interesting and very different kind of breakup than I've ever had before how did you guys meet okay let's bring on you I saw a knicks vile season of the bachelor and then on season four of Bachelor in paradise I don't know it's it's it's very different it's not like a like oh I feel like I have the power because I broke up with him but it feels like Oh wow like I feel is to fireside in its held at a camp so it's like three hours north of Toronto at Camp Walden and it's literally like a camp at Children's the GO-TO for summer camp and say and funks and the whole idea is like you disconnect to reconnect kind of thing and you know everyone is vary like capable of being able to express my mind being able to like stand up for myself and be able to have a respectful honest I've never really been the one to initiate any kind of a break-up I always get really uncomfortable and end up manipulating it so that other person thinks it's their idea you had a you were with him for about a year right or closely yeah it was a little over a year since we had met I teach other about every month I would say the longest we went without seeing each other was like six weeks one time US last year and they were super supportive and in their messages and just kind of saying you know how they notice some things and it's actually quite ironic because I met someone at fireside this year and yeah so it's it's an amazing place can you just kind of considered like when we met kind of our anniversary CIO as like the first weekend of September and we broke up a few weeks ago up if you if you don't want virgin ears to hear this stuff we we do talk about it while she does I kind of listen and ask questions but yeah it's it's very interesting it was the talk of last episode because she had sex with one of the singles Kaby so I up Taylor no let's get to it podcast number one fifty three someone but you don't really know who anyone is his name tags or anything and it's a very different kind of of conference it was very very magical experience for me to go the story which was earlier this week it came out that on your podcast that you talked about your break-up and from what I read in the story ages a conference for entrepreneurs for investors startups anyone doing something kind of different and kind of cool goes sends that all choose to stay with but they're not like these major like ooh this big storyline old is big betrayal or whatever launching a company in Seattle Portland inquiry area so whole probably be in Seattle sometime he's too I still have his hi love Camp Wall then it's a beautiful place was the distance difficult like how often do you guys get to see each other we still other here and there my point is it's not a big deal I don't think people really really care why reality Stephen Holly Julian are no longer friends I have read every bit going on your life right now anything that any recently it's funny because I you know Peruzzi I guess a few months ago but wasn't official until recently so what what do you WanNa share about that Oh gosh yeah it's absolutely magical you know experience and yeah it was it was really great we went back this year again obviously for like one year experience for me the first year Vanessa was with me and we met him the first night I met him in registration line and we spent the whole weekend together and it was just this I never went to summer camp growing up my mom was a sable bomb and that was like a hundred percent on our budget so it was a really interesting happy and it was kind of like a domino effect that happening right that I was just kind of watching like friend after friend after family member after family member never been in relationship before where every person in my life had had some kind of issue with a relationship rate or felt like he was sentenced and you know give me give me some feedback on it and we're on very good terms so I don't it's not one of those things that feels like you know I I think for most breakup I feel like people see coming in and they kind of think you know okay we're going to you it sounds like you guys were pretty much I don't WanNa say done but you started kind of checking out of this relationship I look at this as a whole a big part of you know kind of waiting to end the relationship was me having we ended it on on very good terms I spoke to him shooting nights ago before I released my podcast I sent it to him for her I'm I'm really happy that they've after after years of trying they couldn't have been easy and it could have been an easy story to share you know that the the seem like they didn't just give up and for me a large part of that was also just gaining the confidence to be like no like this on these things like we're going to try this and just kind of for me I'm someone feels like they need to have tried absolutely everything before they can walk away I I I trust the people in my life I trust my friends and I trust my family and I want to like really actually take what they're saying into consideration here but in doing that I also dismissed and just kind of allowed a lot of disrespectful behavior to be okay I know I'm blind in some ways to some of these things but at the same time I have that feeling this for a long time and I've been trying trying trying but sure and it was very very different and actually had several people last night texts me who had met at Camp from the first year and then is in what you fucking want like it's okay to say that you are more than us and it was also a combination of you know I had if I've been unhappy then I've been happy and it was kind of like letting that letting that period of time come Pat and the thing is I think most people realize that no matter how bad the relationship is and I'm sure yours wasn't terrible it just had some issues with you just then it was like after fires this year we went to Ottawa and then the last person was actually Vanessa and then once Vanessa had put in her yeah well I mean I think you hit something on the head there about you know not being good at breakup and breakup happen to everybody we've all been through a breaker you know I had attempted to have these conversations in one way or another we ended up still together and sell this last one person but you're not for me it's still you still feel like you're hurting somebody because you are because that other person is on the other end saying wow this person doesn't want me anymore and couldn't put up with any more I think anytime anybody breaks up no matter who it's with it's just never fun it's easy and I'm sure it wasn't for you I mean and you've been now through the last year the last couple of relationships one was a year long engagement which will I after thirty three years of being together you lost his childhood home on his fundraising company trying to raise money a lot of let me struggling with having empathy and I guess dismissing certain things in his life you know his parents had it come get your Shit Outta my place I don't WanNa see it it just feels like Oh yeah like younger staff like don't forget it now for what I read percents than I was Kinda like wow this point you know you don't WanNa look back and be like Oh yeah everyone warns me in a state in it and so it was like they felt that I was disrespected or that you know I shouldn't be in this and that I deserve more and not that they felt like I wasn't and helped me to like really come to reality with this situation to really look at myself and be like you know is this even healthy if I zoom out as of okay so what are we because this is usually someone that you talk to 'em was part of your every single day routine and then to have that end suddenly it's not oh cool all right yeah no that's good and it just ends like there's constantly there's phone calls after the APP there's not necessarily falls of we need to stay together but there's phone calls because he's in startup lies he travels a lot still so whether it was me coming to him or him coming to Seattle Yep so they decided to start like the the understanding that we both Kinda came to like yes it sucks because you are kind of saying I don't want you in this tip to be and for me it was coming to the reality that I'm more sad about what I thought this relationship was going to be than what it actually is like Oh and for this break-up I feel like we've moved fairly well into some kind of and ship like it's certainly we're still going to have space there right and things are definitely going to be different and breakup there's always grieving period right Tim sucks there's nothing fun about breakups usually breakup don't happen and then basically you never break out with somebody and they're like table to just keep the company go away and a super stressful period of his life and I kept empathizing with those things and being like I know his such a hard time the staff at my house so is GonNa come at some point or I could mail it but we are breaking was very different we were we had already had so many conversations we were both super unhappy to the point where when I did initiate that break-up conversation we weren't getting for each other in that way well you mentioned something earlier about how so many people in your life were telling you about him and telling you in a second and then this I I feel for you because it's not fun and now that you've been the breaker upper you realize yeah God this it was not at all the partner that I needed him to be that I wanted and that I'm looking for and that yeah it just wasn't it out maybe issues that they had and you know you kind of in kind of relates somewhat to the bachelor world if you're a couple in the bachelor world it's awkward it's it's like when you tell somebody that you no longer Wanna be with them even if you say hey you're the greatest you know I really think you're a great a but I think for at least the first time in my relationships like I'm friends with all of my axes except for two and that wasn't okay regardless of what someone's going through I think it took me a while to be like wow you know for more of this relationship care about them I'm in love with him so I'm not gonNA listen to it but it does make it a hell of a lot easier when the person you're with is liked by your friends and your family earns you know being able to move through the you know when I saw him last we'd just hugged each other and cry when I wasn't with him I was actually wow actually I'm like what more productive I feel like happier and freer and then when we're together I feel like I'm drained and I'm like wait down ways yeah totally and I think it's you know it's like no one in my license he's a terrible person or anything like that Knox yeah and it's I mean I think one thing that I appreciate about this break up is the because even if this person stays in your life they are no longer your romantic partner anymore and the grieving of everything he's built and everything that you hoped the relation in someone you know certainly I think you can fall out of like being in love with someone but at least for all my ex's I still have love for them and it wasn't even necessarily like I don't like his personality you know like that's fine everyone has different personalities but when your friends and family are pointing out a little bit more we would have felt a little bit more connected but you know we I already now consider him a friend for different reasons but it was kind of more of that just like they didn't really get me they didn't really understand me these things and it's it's a it's certainly a a tough grieving period but I think what was really helpful for us is is you kind of want your friends and family to lie your significant other I mean people I've I've done a aid and they actually like the first time I really saw some like emotion from him that was like all you know maybe we have actually seen this throughout our relation like you know hey you're bean manipulated or like you know this is called Gas lady or when they're like wow this a thing on my website for years where I take relationship questions and stuff like that I've had people tell me that you know my parents or my friends hate I struggled with that on on his ad right like his family and friends struggled to like me even and you know I think Mike how he's treating this relationship I don't like how he talks about your relationships those kinds of things were like pretty significant rents lives and I think you know I mean my boyfriend you know what do I do and it's like some people can get through that and some people inlaws hate their husband or hate their wife but they still are well I don't end you know unlike I will always love him in the he does have some amazing characteristics about him and you know will definitely be a great partner for someone and since since really July I had attempted to break up the relationship and like I said I'm not good at break out so I was like it was kind of like yeah this makes sense like it sucks and I wish it didn't have to be but yeah I guess this makes sense really is like quite disrespectful to you when when those kinds of things are coming up I think those are some red flags of like you know I don't like how he's treating you like it interviewing some of your favorite reality stars now here's reality Steve Kerr we're already some kind of like preconceived judgements and notions there so That part was definitely difficult and actually something don I we're GONNA get into in our so about you know how to date someone when you don't really get along with their family and I think you can still have a totally healthy relationship and you know not have okay guys one quick break advertiser here and it's my favorite bras third love here we go together with Eric we have not spoken and over a year I've not seen him in over a year so with more than eighty sizes including their signature half-cup sizes third love designed bras with breast size and shape in mind for the report and just explain where you're at with all that yes so I am not getting ended engagement I don't know why necessarily it would be something you'd entertain however I also think that maybe something was maybe Mr That's third love dot com slash Steve for fifteen percent off today now let's get back to Taylor no one uninterrupted sites that have sponsored ads on their pages and people can't complement these bras enough so third love nosers perfect broad US weekly was the story that was the first one to put it out there at least the one that I saw and they had a quote Unquote Sword reported in the story so clarify the report about because the report while it was about your break-up with Canada man it's this that said you would entertain the idea of getting back together with Derek now I'm not here to tell you what for everyone right now they're offering my listeners fifteen percents off your first order go to third love DOT COM slash Steve Right now to find your perfect fitting Bra and get fifteen percent off your first purchase you do just know that they're they are XS for a reason and not to mention there have been some barbs between both of you since your break-up and it's not like we're getting back together tomorrow I and like you said we definitely broke up for a reason and there's a lot there's a lot there and when I say a perfect fit any premium feel his hands down the most comfortable royal own with straps that won't slip and tags labels not to mention lightweight super thin memory remainder of the podcast all right I want to move on to something else that happened in the story that I read Yes so I'm cups that mold to your best of all every customer has sixty days to wear it wash it and put it to the test and if you don't love it you can return it and third level wash it and donate it to a woman certainly started leaning towards Hey Taylor you're going to get back together with Derek what so just explain a earlier you know I'm friends all Max's except for two Derek is one of them and you know that makes me sad we shared a lot of we need like I said I know numerous women that have used the third love bras since they become they become a popular podcast and you see him in ads now I see him on entertainment they point out that they're worried about you and in the relationship because of something pretty serious that you're doing that I think it's something you should listen to of things together and you know aside from all the crazy shit that happened in our relationship you know he did still feel like he was a best friend and I'd still have love for each other and you know at some points after we were engaged I really fell in love with them and l. that he very much loved me and so it's sad for me that we don't have any kind of relationship I don't expect but you know I I I haven't reached out to him and it's not like you know I want to get back together with him and so I'm gather and like you know I love you as a person you know I think those moments are always so powerful after trying to go for that it's literally just me saying that like I'm not ruling out any kind of relationship I have with him I would love to just be friends if that happens you know it's more for me just wanting to like release some of that tension that's there and how that happens you break up with some line and are able to kind of have that that piece of connection there and that hasn't happened for us yet and I think that'd be great comes back into my head as I exit this relationship and able to see you know how essentially how we move through it is very much how I wouldn't I would love to just like you know see him and how you know how that moment of closure I've just like Whoa we went through so much shit very infamous picture of him posting a picture of of him standing next to a pig talking about his ex girlfriend saying like oh which you know I I I think that there definitely needs time to let everything settle in there needs to be time for us to process it alone don't know you know he definitely wanted some spaces live given that space than I just it's it for sure it might still be there by I don't know we could be in very very different places and you know I yeah it's ear long distance and then when it when it broke up there were things said there were comments made by him You know things like the big picture yeah this respectful petty I also really I mean that picture specifically came out shortly but you know I I don't hold anger towards him because of that like I I if I really look a layer let's move through all breakup but I understand people cope with things differently and so that's kind of where we're at today she was more about a closure thing chat what he would even say like I said there were you know you guys had a very public relationship as we know you got engaged on season four of Paradise dated for a year hug and understanding and I feel like that would just help release some of not tension and perhaps that that that hurt or that pain you may want it but sometimes you just don't get it and sometimes you'll never get the closure that you won't and that's okay because if that person doesn't want to give you closure you can't make them after I had gone public with Canada man But I see those things as just you know he was hurting he was hurting and fell you are more looking for some sort of closure because you never really got it like you said you haven't spoken in a year and he never really had that final break up and break up conversation deeper you know anything that he has said post break up or posted or whatever I get where that's coming from it socks and that's where I feel like it's a weird complicated thing for sure yeah and I don't think you know getting closer is obviously I think it's something that I think a lot of people want when they get it could have but yeah I mean getting closer would be great and it sounds like you have it's not like you're asking Hey Derek and we oaken up with or have and especially public relationship that was an engagement that that ended you guys have not spoken like said it's it's tough I'm sure a lot of like he was being funny and you know it doesn't excuse the fact that assists respectful is still is disrespectful as it changes it a bunch of times and then eventually just deleted it my best friend at some points and that is so sad that like I don't have that relationships be able to be like you know Oh shit I wish we could just have that moment where we you know I'm sorry for this I'm sorry for this and you know just like a head but it also just still always emotional by it's like I I felt so close with them right and even with him like he and then it probably shows more about them than it does to us and like you said you haven't spoken him you have no idea like if you were to even read you know this is the hard part for me because I fell you know I mean a ah I got very very close to his family like his mom and his sister are absolutely amazing women and like every about them again emotional and like I am coming off my period like remember when this happened or like Oh this came up reminded me of you like my he he told his close with this like paper cardboard confused when after recording episode and everything coming out and feeling bad that you know he would perhaps be over the open air and some level of friendship you know it's it's really I don't think it's that far fetched by some people higher thicker walls after breakup than others and I don't know where where that's ad I don't I haven't taken any steps to think about your acts and you know it's picturing him with the pig that was uncalled for but you know totally and I look at those things like a I realize stuff that he said and did was out of out of hurt and not thinking and it was just kind of in the moment kind of stuff spur of the moment I'm just going to write this and not realizing the ramifications you know like small things like that that are just like it's not like me sending that Zuma Roxie gather doesn't like want to get back together it's literally just tain the possibility of getting back together whatever or at least be you know I don't even think you're asking it's not like you guys have to be bff's it's just like now it's a civil conversation because assuming right I watched the first two episodes okay so you weren't fully immersed in everything that was paradise because Derek is it there may never be a sense of closure and I've I have come to acceptance with bat it still makes me sad I hope sadness around that like something that we shared together you know the commenting on paradise or whatever when he's not on it you know small things just be able to like how clear they are when you saw that like when you saw Derek Down in paradise and the clips that you saw the episodes that you saw because he was original cast right go into that and I was definitely taking taking back a little bit just because I was like Oh that's not gonNA trigger anything for you oh my God it all seems just like him being a basic nice human being so in a way also kind of sad to watch I get why he would go back on you know dating well it seemed more like the Derek I own there wasn't anything like super stood out that was like one never had one since we broke up really yeah and for me has just like releasing that tension that stare like it's almost clearing the air and just Tao's Lee a major storyline going on down there and I was Gonna ask you what you thought of that whole Shebang that he went through yeah I mean I know everything that happened none of it's me was super surprising and I think you know it it all very much affirmed kind of his idea of do you know check in to see where those walls are I think I definitely felt slightly Is that a Derek that you knew or did you feel like wow this guy's changed and with some of this stuff that maybe I should reach out but it nothing's happened yet and that's also I think it is important that I clarify that like debating gay back together with him we're not getting together literally say that like some closure you know just being able to clear the air here and have some kind of he is and who he wants to be and parts of you know authentically just who he is so you know in a way for me that was you know thing that he made right and it's kind of ridiculous unbelie histories hits my mom right so now my mom or the on Amazon like type folder close and I watched clips of things my thoughts on it which are really interesting host Joe is a bit difficult I can relate to that struggle and going back on the show is definitely more like a safe place I heard whether it was pre show in spoilers or when the show started that Derek and Demi were thing down in paradise what was your initial reaction her I mean yeah I like I feel for him I'm sure it was really fucking difficult and I know he I mean Sir she could sing like they're good friends now but I didn't I didn't feel like Oh wow like he might have from the Dami stuff to demi then with Christian and then him with Patia and then the fight with John Paul Jones is in really surprised me but I immediately didn't think it would be anything like serious or long term or yeah avai friendship I think would be nice you briefly mentioned in your answer there about Paradise you watched paradise this summer or oh yeah now that's the Derek I know like what what was your take watching that in terms of how you know Derek and your relationship with him versus what you saw on tv you know her kind of role in her season didn't surprise me that that'd be something that he would they kind of I don't want to say you but you know how they I mean if you had your way you wouldn't have got engaged down there you would have chosen to continue to see it didn't surprise me you know just in terms of how boy he wants to create that family and it's funny because literally as they say all this now about him unlike this is exactly what you know cantor man would say about me this is my issue one of my issues with the show is especially this season with three engagements in a span of kind of be interested in but I didn't like I didn't see her going Nyah what time this family yes he had himself he had himself quite a summer. That's for sure I mean I wasn't I wasn't surprised by the taste thing I actually kind you know something that's never happened on paradise now that I think about it is somebody getting engaged twice and I really think that that would be a difficult thing saying what about what about the choice of Demi did you did you did you see demi as somebody that he would be into like when you the things like he really does want that security he wants to how that person in his life he wants you know warns you know as difficult as our relationship was and as weird as all the things that happened were you know I- he really does want zoom to go for tesa earlier on but yeah it's it was an interesting time for to do like I can't imagine someone getting engaged twice on paradise to two different people like it it's almost like Damian Christian and Oh Kristen Katie and they seem to be working through things they've obviously been very vocal about the Eric and then see where it yeah but the former of the show is we want an engagement at the end of this thing and whatnot and honestly you know when you have and this is I don't even think if Derek met somebody down there and connected with somebody that he couldn't bring himself to I can't say bring himself to because on television time over a span of the last what thirty minutes of the show maybe twenty minutes of the show it's just like engagement engagement engagement it kinda loses its luster there's up to that one engagement to where it can be romantic but when three people get engaged on the same platform on a beach in Mexico back you want to find that and I feel sad that that it went the way it did for him because I know that's really really wants and if it's worth it yeah so right off the bat hundred worth it a standard the teeth whitening the hellofresh is food service stuff makeup stuff whatever the case may be however I think you're the first one real thing anyway but anyway the third couple that got engaged was who who am I who am I blanking on they got engaged in paradise this summer Dylan Hannity last year and a half probably two years was Fort Lee now I mean there by the it was really kind of like once I was you recently number one you did an ad recently under instagram and we know that bachelor people and like Enron large part of why our relationship in works but he really does want those things and I know for him going back on Paradise was like you know I ranting about it and I know that's what they're going for like wow more at the end of the season where on the bachelor it makes more sense because there's only one and you've spent eleven weeks building up nothing romantic about any of those engagements this summer I don't care and you know I know Hannah and G and Dylan are still doing great Demi and Christian who knows what the Hell is going on she's like every time I told my clothes I think Derek and I'm like great thanks but I'm like I love to be able to shoot me like ll like my mom's using this mm for me I I I never really grew up like receiving any personal mess suggest about like masturbation shameful negative thing but I didn't feel comfortable doing it and it wasn't until this you know kind of issues that they've had but at least they're still together but when you see three consecutive over a span of twenty minutes there's there's nothing Assar nation people come off the show and have opportunities to show for products on instagram and can make money that way and it's usually like you know the I mean maybe there's been other ones but you're the only one that knows that air pitching a sex toy so explain how that all came about what it is with them they don't even look like they even talk on social media and and they're not even hanging out with each other so they're probably I mean oh man I if they weren't even in particular sex well not like sex is happening but I want I want to talk about some things that I learned about was the only time I've ever actually came from oral and I'm the only way I could describe it was that I think he was like sucking on air essentially and I remember it I I was Kinda like I don't know like that's not one of those ways I've tried out like I don't know why that would feel good like I don't think I want some like really met someone there with her now I mean it's it was an interesting journey down there of for Derek not a boyfriend no one I've liked seriously dated but have several times and it was the best oral sex I'd ever had moniz earlier but it's there several different companies have the same kind of version right it's literally just like a little I was going to intentionally mastery and was just doing research was talking to everyone about it right then single after Derek that I was like you know I am a single woman I am living in an apartment by myself for the first time in it was like an April a company approached me about I been posting things about female masturbation not like toys specifically but this company reached out to me and they have a like a vacuum sucker stimulates or click with Are you know the magic bullets and stuff like that seeing those those are pretty standard and those work if you know on those taboo topics and I think it is something that is so important and it's all women followers anyway and I hope they're all fucking masturbated and how do you even masturbate like how even use a fucking Dildos I'll not do the shit so I did much research I'm really like I'm GonNa make this it it's too much I want to I want to switch gears and I want to talk to you about other things going on in your life unlike sucking my clay it seems like it'd be weird and then I hooked up with this one guy and he was absolutely fantastic completely changed my world back to back it's almost like okay I can go to Vegas and watch this at the little chapel little little chapel of hope or whatever where there's a wedding I it's just like come on everyone in your life like your partner but I think when friends and family are pointing out you know if you're being disrespected or we'll share this more yeah I mean I can't say I've ever heard of that I mean I the ones that I think most guys familiar with our opted they're all like learning how to detach themselves how to pleasure themselves so I was just Kinda like absolutely absolutely I enjoyed this I'm gonNA share this smashed and I'm like yeah that's how I flick most people are responding to it and for me you know I don't I like to take on will whole kind of at the top of it and it vibrates and you put it on your clay and it does this like air sucking thing I know I know that they've reached so many people and I know so many people will say no and it was actually conversation I had with Vanessa actually and she was like now girl whoop use it incorrectly but this was something that I had never even heard of as a toy you were like yeah this shit works sation that comes up around it you know in terms of life how people introduce with their partner of their partners comfortable with it you know how they how they use it with themselves like the first and like if you really enjoy like being stuffed any just want like penetration that's really hard to do solo like it really is fucking difficult I don't know I I really don't know how it works but it works great and it's something you can use for Solo Sax ICAN used in partnered sex on uh-huh and unless you have something that you're like suction copying on like a chair or something and you know our manufacturing it that way if you're just like department that's just my yogurt is about to get herself a low fat and so I did this research and also trying to figure stuff out and I was like actually and a toilet fat works grades and partnered sex Orrin Solo sex and it's an interesting to see the Dan holding something and trying to like do penetration with yourself as a woman is difficult and so like the clip play and something you can really easily do I'm this and like the the like popular version of this is like what people call the one doc and after that then I thought about that tweet on like Oh whoa like this might have something to it and yeah tried it out and after the loved it and was just like I quit I know what he was doing but I wanna say it was like he was sucking tapping with his tongue allman quite like what the fuck kyw made posted this I received several messages from women that literally had Nian fucking cheers okay Sharon about like how this impacted their relationship about how like they had never been were gasden before and how they they were crying and I was just with nick the whole thing that came up with you know emotional intelligence with with Karen but you have now are going seen again so I have my private practice in Seattle and they see clients and I'm working towards hours full licensure ages a sectors like the I don't even know actually what it stands for but it's like to be there like the accreditation sex therapists but it's a whole other super long process with supervision hours and like just it's basically a whole other like degree literally is there and we know that you were a therapist or you're studying to be and then we know on your season I mean it's a it's a good partnership and you can check it out on on on your instagram if anybody's interested in that the other thing I found out about you info conversation and getting connected to your partner and they also have these trainings for professionals to be gotten certified therapists finals so like people who just WanNa be sex educators or people who are interested in learning more about sex can come into their trainings as well it does for continuing education credits for professionals and you can be a certified sex therapist through their program it also sets you up for an ACC certification for that So I'm not sure if I'll go that far yet but right now I'm just starting off getting the trainings where I'll be certified sex therapist or sexual health alliance you really helpful for people whether you're just get in a new relationship or are in a long term relationship the dates help kind of facilitate me time what's the big deal so for me I was like yeah I want my followers to be orgasm means more than I want them to have teeth smart to discuss my cases and whatnot but yeah I'm going through some training right now I'm under two different trainings so one is the Goldmans but it's it's a topic a lot of counselors actually don't cover and that is so important to cover so it's always been something I've been really with singles or a couple that may be has intimacy issues I'm assuming but as what is your main goal as a sex switching can do couple work using methods that are all evidence based research done over the last forty years and actually based in Seattle so us they are world renowned couples researchers I've promoted some of their stuff on my pages well they recently had a book called eight dates that was really really best is to religious normalize things around sex because they're they're really honestly isn't any normal for people that may think they know what being a sex therapist is and I'm not even sure I know exactly what a sex therapist back to school now for more hours to become a sex therapist e yeah so right now since May I've been been an honest in terms of working with clients on and was kind of a long term goal going into a therapist was like yeah I'd love to be a sex therapist ooh around sex and I want that to be normal like I want a lot of sex therapy and people coming to me list does and there's one question that I have in regards to it but first off just describe a sex therapist obviously you can kind of quite normal that people struggle with that they you know either hideaway because shame or you know just kind of we're so I'm Minnesota she it in some states is considered a graduate and met bites working under supervision I meet with my supervisor as a couple couple struggling with with pleasure with orgasm with you know premature ejaculation like all these things that actually Monday so now I'm working on it well that's cool because I mean you're only what how old are you twenty five at twenty six especially for people who you know are exploring different kinds of relationships in terms of openness and face to really learn more about that and to experience that whether you know there perhaps they are which is a lot more people friends they can turn to and instead you know can turn to the confidential safe environment of Therapist's office that so they're going through their training because they really loved doing couples work as well an Paulie friendly king friendly things but then also working towards was you was as we know you went to college I believe John Hopkins University Right Yeah I got my master's there can you define what that is because I've always looked at it as because of Janet Kramer and her husband and that sex addiction and I know nothing about Janet Kramer and her husband's story outside of what they constantly tell us twenty six okay yeah I mean that's I don't know I mean my goal was fully licensed at twenty five but then I went on the show somebody that sleeps around and can't help sleeping with multiple people but that's not necessarily it I'm learning avoided altogether I think the goal of Rawal is just like you know it's it's okay to talk about these things is very similar I would say to just regular therapy used as perhaps are interested in having a consensual non monogamous relationship you know perhaps there in a poly-amorous type of relationship and don't have a lot of resources and don't have something of it's become more public in stories you read about celebrities and that is an and I say this like dysfunction in daily life it is something that is pretty intense and consists so specific here I don't think that if someone is having a lot of sex that they that automatically means that they have sex sex therapy or not but that's also big part one thing that I want to ask you about and this is I'm not asking for myself but it has become were they affects therapist is often some psycho education and I'd just my calls I literally just want people to like feel free and coming in in that instance yeah there's a lot of education and there's a lot of it's honestly it's a lot of boundary work um yeah it's I think a lot of people just throw around sex addiction sometimes and perhaps explore their sexuality to talk about their you know perhaps in the issues that they're having around sacks as a safe being a certified sex therapist with the sexual health alliance and going through some of their trainings which are actually not specific Q. Profession Therapist I'm GonNa stay based on just some of the work done already in through some of my trainings that one of my biggest goals Venus expert is in news articles and on their podcast that I see quotes from and stuff like that but people who have a sex addiction mentioned which was poly-amorous relationship that recently came up in the pop culture world with just enjoying having a lot of Zack's doesn't put you necessarily in that category yeah yeah the other thing you know like what did certainly consider like frisky in some ways but it's also like it makes lots oh it's it I think oftentimes it's it's wrongfully put out there on people action so Blake Blake Blake never had a sex addiction this summer I do not I do not believe that lake has this actual accent stints across the board in terms of creating dysfunction so heartily has so it was I've never done it only because I feel in my mind all it can do is cause problems who is never done that I never had a threesome no never I had one opportunity and it was years ago and I passed it up I don't know if you watch the hills or if you've read about the whole Brody Jenner and his wife Caitlin and then her getting they were inviting other into their marriage and shortly thereafter they have now gotten divorced was not a symptom of the fact that diagnose anyone clients by yeah I think there's a lot of people are quick to jump to that like addiction piece much more of that freedom than women do hence why you also see that more men are considered to have or diagnosed with sexual diction but I think it's important to remember that when something does become an addiction and it's creating literal dysfunction within your life on on a regular basis me except a lot more psycho education especially for people who you know perhaps they're a virgin their marriage and some people it wouldn't and maybe they got divorced for other reasons but yeah on a case like that or any case where you are a married couple or a couple in general sense you know you're excited you're getting this attention you know you have your single you have the ability to be able to explore whatever you WANNA explore and unfortunately men often times a hat a layer of openness that's what I was Gonna ask is is I guess it just comes down to a case by case basis some people would affect wait for three years in my eyes I'm like damn I'm behind hurry up and get my hours so as a sex therapist I mean hind of you know sexually open or consensual Ethically non monogamous relationship requires a lot of internal work it requires a lot of communication and boundary setting and a lot of work around the feeling of jealousy the thing to do just like monogamous relationships often end it'll get thrown back in my face that it seemed like you were enjoying yourself with her more it seemed like why don't you do that with me and I feel like it's going to cause nothing but problems they like someone's being hyper sexual it's you know when something crosses the Line into being an addiction is creating uh-huh all the time and and what was even brought up the hills this season it's not like him and his wife denied it they just said we like what we like and it's and it's nobody's business so that to me means use even if the person I was with said I want to bring someone into the relationship I don't know if I would that's just my thoughts on it maybe they're not married yet maybe you're engaged dating for years and you incorporate somebody else into your relationship for me as an outsider you know when they end it's because they were polly people break up all the time and all kinds of relationships for so many reasons and unfortunately I think a lot of people in all it can do is cause issues to where whoever we invite in whether it's a stranger or somebody that we know eventually miley Cyrus right after their break-up but if you watch the hills there was talk about how brody and Caitlyn and look I'm not sitting here and trying to pretend that I'm some sort of we had you know several different threesomes with other friends and other other girls and at that point in our lives we were really young right this kind of open poly community are often kind of shamed for having that relationship style when they break up that this is why he broke up because you should've been monogamy open paulie relationships those also adds just because they're pollyannish an open doesn't mean that they are gonNa last forever or that on the hills that Brody Jenner and was very open sexually with multiple women and was totally digging three and what that means for each partner so I definitely don't think it's someone it's something that people should just Willy Nilly like Oh yeah like I wanna I wanNA in a in a threesome and it'd be a really awesome experience for you and your partner the first time I ever had threesomes was when I was your thoughts in general on that dynamic your concerns around that are totally valid in order to have any it's I think today being able to like sexually explore there's a lot more conversation happening around that I think is super important out of it and just honestly to be very gentle with yourself throughout the process because a lot of feelings will come up ought of boundary setting requires a lot of conversation needs to be really intentional about why you're doing it and what you want if good positive experience Frio and maybe it's something for me where you know maybe my partner doesn't want to give me oral sex maybe I can experience and it will feel like a little complicated at times it takes a lot of courage to try to have a non monogamous S. and he wouldn't have these issues I think you can absolute a engage in a you know in this example my partner is going to be able to fulfil all of my needs all of the time and you know I date someone who really really wants in even those no premarital in it's a lot of discussion around boundaries which I think many of us struggle with whether we're in Lisa said for any kind of open you know sexual experience takes a case a lot of courage to put yourself out there like that so it's it's definitely hills insider or know what's going on with them but it is pretty well known through many things that I have heard throughout the years going back two years when brody was I we weren't fully there were there were conversations but they weren't at all at the level that they would be out today right but not for everyone but I I am happy to see that there is more conversation around it because people that are interested in or that our lives I've always said like whoever I marry is not going to be the one and only person sex with for the rest of my fucking life like it's very unrealistic to say that and there was another one but more of them happens you know pre on this talked about and discussed or whatever it sounds like it was more let's have fun it was it was briefly talks about like the is in a relationship and it was literally my first relationship ever when I lost my my wife that and do I share this they're you know during my period of time of the single Tom now here's my question and I've had this question posed it with many people wouldn't just discussing threesomes in that when you had your was lifestyles you don't necessarily have to feel the sense of shame the more than it's talked about and don't necessarily have to kind of like hide it in keep you know and I thought that was so cute that they did that that like they were interested in having how sexual openness and their relationship and wanted someone they could add into their sexual experience and just when people are just you know exploring their sexuality perhaps there are hyper sexual perhaps they're being a little bit more high risk in the sexual behavior I have a threesome okay let's do it requires actually a lot of conversation around that to make sure that all the parties involved feel like it's a safe the way they went about it was again with a lot of this conversation about real specifics to what each person wanted to the fact that you know they were I hadn't happened it just happens and then after that there were a lot of conversations and then like it happened with other people but even asking that relationship I had other ones it kind of person it takes really a specific kind of setting for that kind of thing to happen and sometimes it's like really specifically set up and I think it's a I thought it was very like creative respects full intentional way to go about doing something like that and literally on bumble together they were like it's the two of us like if you are open minded and like can be our Unicorn the Vita fully deep star thumb and I'm like I don't want to do that and maybe they have someone else who liked can provide them with cheer I went I went I went out on a date with a couple and they were they were on bumble like together aren't just like you don't necessarily like you're just like yeah we went out through some yeah we're just GONNA go out and have one like it takes a really specific grayson not everyone feels comfortable putting themselves out there like that but I thought that was a very creative idea because then they're both cream college Yeah yeah there's there's really only been wines post college you're you're getting snow both people and what both people are looking for and what they're looking for it together and some of that communication can happen you know before or you even meet when it's done through something like that and not sure that that's Nice Charlie what bumble intended their services for but you know you know why not at least meet them in the kind of how you feel and whatnot and you know it's it's different than like looking to gather right and it's something that that they're doing as a couple to say gallagher are you interested in this person like I think I'm interested in this person and finding someone that they ah going and just like hooking up with a guy and you know it's for sure I feel like could match with them and from everything like you know her communicating doing some of the messages may be him doing some messaging like you're live their lives in this small little corner anymore so okay so i WanNa talk about what you just said I had no idea that you've been in so many threesomes in your life so you know then yeah that's and specifically looking for a third they made no bones about specifically yes and I think that maybe okay maybe I do share this because appreciated how this was done the whole in when was this yeah this is the last somewhere else and like there's there's so many different ways you can go a bout it but overall it does require a law so it wasn't like they were fully inviting someone into their relationship it was sexually you know we want like when we can get together and kind of like play with is it just you're at a time where you were just like I'm single I just WanNa do something different or this couple really appeal to you that much or what was your deal I mean or this person when we were together so like damn curious to see what that would be like to be you know the single win not in the relationship Ashland there was like conversations unlikely talked and whatnot and then yeah we we met up and they were they were really cute they were like such sweet wall and I josh but it's it's not like you're with this other single person right to be like okay like are they going to like me like are we gonNA keep talking like from the I'm like specifically interested in women like I don't like go on dates with women are like hooked up with a woman just like but it's funny because most people would think that they happen in college but we would have time never worked out is like these these things by myself but it's a very different experience like within a three to have that experience making sense experiences and I also felt like you know in a way I hadn't had recently long time and so it was also kind of just like a yeah why not like they seem like gray and like and it definitely was different but it it's yeah I don't know I'm also not like I I wouldn't say like I guess there's some of that with a couple but it's not like in that situation they weren't open to like a poly relationship rate is specifically sexual thing in a relationship so this was a very different experience for me which also was part of what appealed to me was like oh I haven't been in this position yet and like I was always curious how that felt speaking to see I mean I hadn't ever been other side of that right I was always personnel insider in the relationship or no one in the three like I was like yeah this shit really matters like way more than fucking getting white teeth who gives a shit about that like you're human you're gonNA yellow over amazing deep throat action and I can be like I'm so happy that you have that like I don't have to fuck that so I'm glad you got that there that was it's for me at that time it was like I was experimenting with different section her because the female in that relationship wasn't opening up enough wasn't providing enough or yeah no no no so she she's by and he has a high recent in the past like you said you were really young it was your first relationship so it was more of a just a physical thing this wasn't something he was like experimental assuming like it was just like hey let's try this you're how many times did you do this with this couple was just one time or was it a we've I met we've only got a few times on my you know sometimes towns so was this board why did you do this I don't like I don't what made you do this is not and sometimes they're in town are not so it's like it's not it hasn't been a regular thing and yeah a few times but it's not threat not a regular thing were you being brought into this by this couple because his wife was now when you went out with this couple it happened that night or did you have to go out with them and and well no I mean like we home every now and then kind of thing so it's it's a it's literally like purely a sexual experience but like it's also Actually were they married couple or were they just they're boyfriend girlfriend they live together and they are for several years okay so were they asking for tights and yeah and a they just both enjoy being able to like you know spice it up a little bit and make it a little bit different you know it was something like this is where I found so endearing and so cute about it too was that like they it was like so exciting for that a third woman or third person seemingly a woman I'm assuming a guy would want a two girls with him that you would be more comfortable with someone no or stranger and also to your point it's also saving this mail is heterosexual are you more comfortable with incorporating someone you don't know into it or incorporating someone you do know like if you were in a relationship whether was a husband or boyfriend or fiance would you be more comfortable with that couple did hitting up a stranger on an internet site or at a Bar but I for me personally it very much depends on the person it could be someone I don't know that people need more intense more quantity of things that people are attracted to things that are novel explicitly you know for this couple specifically that I was with like other people in their lives don't know that they're open in this way so they wouldn't her or would you rather have a talk of hey we know we're very close to so and so I think she might be interested and and incorporating but just activated someone different provides a sense of novelty that's really exciting okay this is the last thing on threesomes and ask you it does provide something different to your sex lives because like when people think of you know watching porn right they think like oh you just beyond even on my end I was like yeah like discussions very important and but now I'm talking about the fact that I've done this so I guess I'm okay with it now but it's now and it could just work out really well it could be someone that I know but again those conversations would need to be had even more in our in our sexual activities that it was you know something they would like you know help you pick out what we're going to wear like get excited together like I thought that was so cute like no we know you're bringing this like excitement you know to their relationship and thinking I think it very much depends on the situation you know you might you might feel more comfortable with the fact that you know someone on it to be someone that they know we actually had we found out we had some mutual friends in common and it was like yeah we're gonNA have discretion like discretion was very important you're gonNA keep watching porn and then you're gonNA keep getting into more and more intense things and that like you're going to become numb to like just regular sex and it's not that when I was on the other end that it like it was it was very like exciting cool different experience to have with your partner that you know you could talk about afterwards and bore their bodies can be different they're gonNA kiss differently they're not touch differently it's a whole new experience it doesn't have to be someone that's Kinky or and sexier every time the things that are different and so for a couple to then invite someone into their sexual experience something different it's a new person right to the three talk has lasted a hell on that because I had no idea when in your experiences with threesomes to a conclusion when you talked about having threesomes in your past I didn't even ask if we were talking threesomes with you and two guys there are so many different ways that couples can go about it and and some I understand that like pleasurable experience you know I definitely say ease your way into it and have lots of conversations with your partner I I think I may have just jumped actions with this person it feels maybe less vulnerable to share yourself in that way or perhaps perhaps it feels better picture that like these two guys was going to be like pounding the fuck outta them right and just like aukin going at it and it's like what I envisioned now is maybe you can trust them and you feel like new already have you know the same for any kind of sexual experience you have perhaps you feel more comfortable because you've already had always right it's a very different vibe when you think about this different has things like worshiping and just like you know using me I asked female friends this if you would ever have one would you rather it be with two guys or would you rather it be with a guy and another girl at one point I thought I was maybe going to have one with two is this was not I wasn't that it could be like actually a really a really great fucking pleasurable time he's me and that that really flipped switch for me on what dynamic could look like that I was like there's no shame in that well there's there's twenty minutes of threesome talk for you is there anything else on the sex table that and pretty much almost all of them have always said I don't think I could do two guys that's too much stimulation I it would be over-stimulation for me and I think that's because women conversation involved and sometimes there isn't isn't by can be very exciting it was someone that you don't think you're never gonNA see again like it's it's very much I think depending upon the person the vibe you get conversation you have single but I'm not saying who I was dating but yeah I had an I've never had that experience I think there's a lot of shame around that that numeric or you and a guy in another woman yes so all of mine have been me a woman another man and I thought such a fucking slide if I have this experience and the more I thought about it in the more that like I talked about it it was actually no I don't think that would mean those want to discuss I mean I'm open to hearing more your stories here that's yeah and so it was like I challenge myself to be like when I look at this as like some really dirty you know like wow arms eighty what people fantasize about and they actually act on any group sex was the number one I think rush tax was in top three is a fantasy to to eventually have one however for me it would just be more of hey and I think we often times when you see even mainstream porn when there are threesomes with two men and a woman is more of that vibrate we're like it's not really Katie Matt and so in my head and when that potential time arisen arose is very much in my head I was like yeah when you say you know people's fantasies or threesome like I mean yeah I I'm not going to sit here and say that I would never have a threesome in my life I mean I think yeah like it actually would be this very beautiful worship in like can they please me how I want like you know they're going they're goal in this is going to be too like I I'd rather just like basically hook up with two girls as opposed to be in a relationship and invite somebody and it's just that's just me it's just not something I would is on and so in his episode how to have better sex we went over kind of you know all the fantasy he's a lot of research round like fans let's 'cause I mean it's it's something that has been you know you talk about it and I've had this discussion with people not about doing it but just hey if you were to ever have one of course like why wouldn't I like it's just never happened never had that opportunity I have an avenue to women come up to me and say hey let's let's do that of my interest in being a sex therapist as well as just because so many of these things we think are so taboo and are so you know out there like these two dudes just like worshipping my body right just like pleasure man like every way that I want as opposed to just like us even me for me I didn't episode with Dr Justin Miller and he's the he was the experts in one of the trainings I I went to sexual health alliance I don't think that like what you're interested in is so taboo and don't think that like you know it doesn't need to be the shame around it at all then it's not you know it's awesome to be ashamed of whatsoever and it's it can be really enjoyable you probably want to do in my relationship but would I if I was out one night and hanging out and you know to women at Mar that were into it which included things like DSM And Yeah there's so much more I can say on this topic but there's yeah just don't feel cheer express it or to experience that or think that you know it would be not their slide or that they're gross or you know perhaps things like I think that that could be again very much depending on who the people are and what kind of vibe is there yeah because so many people think of it as Oh my God I'm going to be looked at a certain way they just don't participate in it but total either people out there that would do it absolutely people in this bachelor family in the bubble you know that that feels safer in some ways for some people to be intimate in that way and you know yeah I'm sure it I'm sure it could be I don't see it just to get it to happen is just even about this like I said in this one hundred fifty three podcasts have now done this is easily the first openly sexual conversation I've had with anybody you know I I don't know if you've ever had another Bashar person on your podcast talking about freedoms before I hope someone else does I hope someone else does too the next is the number one fantasy that people have and I don't remember actually how acted out it is it could be you know fully pleasure and all the way you say yeah again actually why haven't I considered this dynamic this but but but what I be against it no absolutely not I don't think any guy would like why would you I mean like this is thing I think there are so many things that like we've probably talked about here that people have fantasize about before and either have felt too much shame really they're not they're really not And Yeah I just think the more you talk about it the less shame is associated with it and So but Taylor I really appreciate you coming on again this was a lot of fun sorry about your recent break up but it sounds like it it's talking about relationships sex plays a huge part in our relationships so it's important that we talked about it for sure and any sort of meet up or closure with Derek I'm sure we'll read about it on some entertainment site for sure I'm sure it'll get out but I mean obviously there's a lot of other things but freedoms actually it's like one of them in the top three of what people fantasize about group sex think about it I'm sure there have been many you know all a lot of what you talk about is relationships right and so how do we not include this conversation around sex when we are the nation let me be clear about that I could even name the people that I know that have been in a threesome imagination but I'm not going to lead sluts off but but yeah it's and you know even those people it's like yeah like after the show me difficult thank you so much Taylor for coming on and talking about that yeah that took a I knew I didn't WanNa talk a bunch of Bachelor nation stuff and whatever we're GonNa talk about other things and she had told me before we went on the air we had a discussion the other day and she had mentioned that she was you know getting hours so congratulations you broke this podcast cherry with a stock lobby I mean and I have in the past spoken to a lot of obviously contestants from the show that are in the I guess twenty four to twenty nine year old range and we certainly spent a good amount of the last hour of this podcast was talking about sex and sex addiction and vacuum sucking clips and whatever they have sex addiction if they want to have a threesome right which is not true so yeah it's again this is large part anyway thanks again for coming on really appreciate it and we will be in touch yes definitely thank you for having me you got it butter break up and talk about the article came out this week about possibly getting Josh Norman Gone

"You want it you need it. It's what everyone's talking about the Kevin Sheehan show. Now here's Kevin I'm here Erin. Sear JP Finley from NBC Sports Washington. will join us in about ten minutes. There was breaking redskins news late this morning at the end of the radio show and right before we started recording. The podcast and the news is that Josh. Norman is going to be released by the Redskins Mike Garafolo from NFL network reported it. And then Diana Rossini from ESPN raw confirmed it and said that Ron Rivera is going to reach out to talk to Josh Norman the implication there being that perhaps Norman's days in Washington aren't completely over His Days in Washington under the contract that he signed or over he's not going to earn twelve point. Five million dollars In twenty twenty being a Redskins cornerback. We all knew that that was coming. I mean that was hardly news to all of us that followed the team. There was no way they weren't going to take you know roughly nine million dollars cap savings by releasing him but given that his best success came with Ron Rivera in Carolina. It's not surprising in. Wouldn't be surprising to me in. Wouldn't be a repulsive notion to me if Ron Rivera decided. Hey I want you Josh Norman. On this team we just can't pay you twelve and a half million bucks. We need a team friendly deal. If you don't get a team friendly if you don't get a lot of guaranteed money in a big time deal elsewhere we'd be interested in having you back John Keane wrote a story just moments ago and he talked to Josh. Norman Norman said it's their choice not mine now I can start something new and fresh That was the quote In the John Time Story. I would certainly think that Josh Norman. Go out there to see what's out there to see if there's a team that wants to give him a guaranteed deal for a couple of for decent money for a guy that hasn't played well recently and who is thirty two years old you know and needs a certain scheme like I don't know that. Josh Norman is the guy that you just bring in and you say hey we can play him in man. We complain I'm in zone. We can play him outside. We can play him inside. He's not that versatile you know we've seen that over the last. You know several years with Josh Norman being in Washington and you know per typical per usual with this organization. They didn't coach around the talent they had. They tried to squeeze square pegs into round holes. Josh Norman is a better zone corner than he is a man Corner Josh. Norman is better facing the action rather than turning his back to the action. Josh Norman is not super fast. He anticipates well. He is smart But he is better in sort of seeing everything evolve in front of him in zone coverage then he is in man coverage he's not a guy that should be traveling you know with air quotes around it with the number one receiver On the opposing team. That's not what he is good at and yet at times they had him in that position. You know I've been thinking about Josh Norman. Now that he may be completely done although again. I would not be repulsed nor upset if they brought him back on a team friendly deal in a better scheme that fits him in part. Because the one thing to me. That Josh Norman's always been pretty good at he's always been a willing tackler. You know there are a lot of corners. That don't WanNa come up and tackle and Josh. Norman has been that. Guy. I mean. Take this season in. Toss it because you know. We got to the middle towards the end of the season. When they had no intention of really playing him and be but yet he was active. Was the strangest thing. It was almost as if they wanted to pay him for being active because he had some sort of bonus in his contract. That said if you was on the final active game day roster. He made a certain amount of money. I forget what it was now And for whatever reason maybe they felt they owed it to them. I don't know and remember. He was active but wasn't playing and then was forced to get into a game against the eagles right. It was the eagles game that he got into. And gave up the touchdown pass. Yeah and And you could tell that he was not interested participant there at the end of the year. So take at least half of this season and toss it to the side. You know if you think about Josh Norman in Washington the One thing I will say about him that I feel strongly about is. He was a physical player he was a willing. Participant is a tackler and he tried to make plays as a tackler. You know he was consistently going forward. The the hit the good tackle but the simultaneous punch out of the football. He had multiple forced fumbles in those first couple of years. here But obviously in the scheme that Greg Munaf ski had Joel. Berry had before wasn't perfect for him. You know typical the Redskins Bruce. Allin goes out gets excited signs one of his big. You know big name. Big money deals in. It's not a good fit for the defensive scheme they have will. Ron Rivera knows what Josh Norman can do. What he can't do and whether or not they'll have a scheme that will fit him or not. So if Ron Rivera goes out and says we're interested in having you back on a one year deal with maybe a team option for second. You know at a team friendly number. Then I'M GONNA. I'll be all in on that because I'll believe that Ron Rivera thinks he's key can get something out of Josh Norman. Here in his later years No one knows him better than he than he does in. Nobody's been better at putting together a defensive scheme in this building In a long long time then Ron Rivera in Jack del Rio. So we'll talk. Jp Finley about this in more detail here momentarily If you miss the radio show this morning again. I urge you seven to ten. Am The team nine. Eighty the team ninety dot com the team nine eighty APP. You can listen to my radio. Show you can listen. You can stream it You can certainly listen to it on the APP as well And listen to it on ninety five point nine. Fm WE WE'VE GOT AN FM signal in town now as well I had Tom Izzo on the show. Who has always been one of my favourite college basketball coaches? I don't know that I told him that. I think I told him that once before he's been on the show ending three times over the years I think he was first on the show when Maryland went into the big ten and anyway he was he was really good. You can listen to that if you'd like He is He said in his thirty seven years of being in the big ten Erin. The League is never been better than this year. This is the best. It's ever been top to bottom that it's crazy. You know I I I don't know and I said this to him. I don't know that he answered it or not. It wasn't a question it was leading into a question. I don't know that Michigan state in a long long time is lost three consecutive conference games. Which they just went through you. Know Losing to Wisconsin Penn State Michigan before beating Illinois. The other night they had never lost four in a row. I believe okay not in a long long time. I mean he's been so good there and you know what he's always been good at. I mean everybody. Who's a college basketball fan knows? Tom Is those teams in November and December. Don't even pay attention. Doesn't mean anything cause his teams get better and are always playing their best basketball in February and March in its wide. Gone to so many final fours. And they've gotten into so many tournaments. I mean he's turned Michigan. Jud Heathcote had done a great job at Michigan State won a national championship with Magic Johnson and Greg Cancer that team that won the National Championship Over Larry Bird's Indiana state team in nineteen seventy nine when he took over the program You know he was replacing a legend in Heathcote and he's become a bigger legend at the school He's won like nobody's ever won their Been to so. Many final fours has won. A national championship is one of the winningest coaches of all time and is always put together a team that for me. I've always enjoyed watching and I know I didn't tell him this because I would have been embarrassed to tell him this but my the most recent team that I coached Erin It was my youngest team and was sort of an AAU slash travel team. Had the these kids together from third grade through high school We were called the SPARTANS. We were the Bethesda Spartans. Now you guys can laugh out there. Oh suburban white kids. We're pretty good. We actually had a pretty good team and we had we had some good. You know some really good shooters on the team. and we competed with some really good teams over the years in had a lot of fun. But I remember giving sort of the kids at a young age. Sorta the option of a couple of team names but really pushed spartans on them. Because I've always been the biggest Izzo Fan and I love the way Michigan State plays. I love the way they defend. I love the way they rebound. I love the physical nature of his teams over the years. They've always been tougher team than their opponent. Almost always He's a great coach. I urge you to listen to that. He was great talked about a lot of things. That really didn't have anything to do with basketball. You know he got very upset recently about some criticism of his players on twitter basically said he hates social media more than anything in the world basically But Anyway eight final force. It's not bad even though it's resulted in just one national championship in two thousand Going to the final four eight times as a head coach. is pretty damn impressive Anyway we'll get to the Michigan State Maryland game in more detail a little bit later on Real quickly about mybookie dot. J P Finley from NBC Sports Washington. Who's joining us on? The podcast listened to his redskin talk. Podcast is well. He's doing a great job with that. let's start with just the breaking news of of this morning. It's not a surprise. Obviously for people like you and me. That Josh Norman is going to be released I think it's a bit of a surprise to some. I think maybe we've even talked about it though. The possibility that Ron Rivera might WANNA back. And that's what Diana Rossini sort of implied with tweet is that Ron Rivera is going to talk to Josh Norman. After the release the release not surprised. We don't have to spend a lot of time on that. What do you think the chances are that? Josh Norman would come back to Washington on some sort of team. Friendly deal Maybe I wouldn't rule it out but I think I think it would make way more sense for him to either of the. La Teams in both are contending team. I I think he. He always talks about wanting to play in the playoffs championship football. He's about you know before you came to Washington he wa- He got to the Super Bowl with the panthers even his tweet in the time since he was released. Now let's go win this tip you. You're not competing for championship Washington. This year you did art I don't know. Football is still a high enough priority for Josh for him to play on a rebuilding team I think he's still loves the game but I think he is interest and and what he cares about our so much are so much more vast now than they were twenty fifteen when he signs here and he's going to consider a lot of other things I'd say. What Devon and you WanNa talk about a former Redskins cornerback that I think it can make a lot of sense to come back. Bichon really think about it. The Panthers signed reeling before he hurt his foot on Rivera's sign before he before he hurt his foot. I think regularly I think better I think you'll be or think they would have been better off if you go back in time now. Read when they signed Norman and and really kind of lost his status as the top corner. That's what a lot of things started to get a little a little troubled in that secondary and revisionist history now but couldn't get ron saying. He wants to be more than his Rhonda's thing. You always take the high road. He's known Josh along time. I just Josh Norman. I don't know what the marketplace is going to look like for your services at this point. Frankly and wouldn't he want to be somewhere where he fans here turn long like I posted on my facebook page. Us release and the overwhelming response is good. Good riddance get out of here. He wants to come back and deal with that like if he goes to the rams are contending teams potentially and I think he's GonNa have to sign a one year incentive deal Invasion they'll be able to spin it and the one year ten million dollar deal but I'll be very very curious to see what's actually guarantee. Yeah I know. That's the reaction and I saw it to on social media when I just re tweeted the GARAFOLO REPORT. I think earlier this morning. You know fans don't know what We don't know That positions in odd position. You know anywhere in the secondary tends to be you know sort of a scheme dependent for a lot of guys driven result. You know. We know watching Josh Norman over the last few years you know. He's not a number one travel with the best receiver on the other team man. Cover guy it's not what he was even though he was asked to do a lot of that. He's probably better suited for a team. That plays more zone with a pass rush. You know facing the quarterback facing the action because he anticipates well he prepares well. He's smart you know. All of those things ball skills all skills I think I think he has those but the speed and the reaction time. You're right like that was never his strength. And you got a lot of that kept. I'm sorry I interrupted you. Know it's funny that it is an indictment on the former staff or former mindset to to not play guys through their strength and we saw like what's the point of making norman the highest paid quarter in the NFL. You're not GonNa let him do what he does. Best and they never did that and and I'll never understand. Well I mean think about the origins of two deals in particular actually three. If you want to go back to Donovan mcnabb but Josh Norman. Alex Smith in recent years were two of the big deals that Bruce Allin initiated. You know Because remember this was a guy that lived on. Bargain deals for subpar players. Like hey look at the contract. We got for this very average player. The redskins were the opposite of what they were from. Two Thousand Two thousand nine before Bruce Scott here. It wasn't any better this way but the two big signings that he went out and made noise with worked total misfits Josh. Norman didn't fit the defensive scheme that Berry or Ultimately Greg Rusedski was coaching and Alex Smith wasn't a good fit for Jay gruden scheme you know so it was. It was sort of ill-conceived from the beginning. But my point on Norman is this. It would not upset me if Ron Rivera said I know what this guy is. I know how to get the most out of him. He's a veteran. He's smart. He's got ball skills by the way the thing that I've always liked about Norman. He's he's always been a willing tackler. You know for a corner and a bit about playmakers tackler as well and if Rivera as a fan of the team if reverse in. I know how to play him. I know how to put him in positions where he can succeed and if he doesn't get a big deal with guaranteed money elsewhere. We'd we'd be happy to have him back on a one one to two year deal. Maybe a second year option team option for team friendly money because we don't have any corners are we have very few and be. I know what he is and I can make it work. That wouldn't bother me no. It shouldn't bother people. But I'll say this Ron Rivera has now been the head coach of two teams. That have led. Norman go so and he might want to have a meeting with them. I don't like Ron is now done this twice in two different states right so. I don't know that I see it happening. Well they did franchise him to keep him. And they ultimately rescinded the franchise tag when they got the sense that he may not want to play on the franchise tag and they were they were a bit of a no nonsense organization with Rivera. Big Part of that and I. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to here. Hopefully it plays out the same way here. But you're right ultimately. They did let him go. Yeah and and with job. He said no nonsense. Which Josh there is a certain amount of condoms? The quarterback position like. That's a you know a lot of ways who these guys are but I don't know I just think you're trying to rebuild and got. I had this through the pile. He was buried last year when he was that he got. Benched cody sensabaugh like I think. That's part of the story that we're going to kind of glossed over because everyone is so bad and the team was bad and everything needs a total overhaul but like. I'm not sure what Josh had left either. Yeah I mean you might be right. You might be right. Maybe he's got nothing left. I guess and you're also right. He was bad last year. Specially when he was forced to go into a game that he had that they didn't anticipate him playing against the eagles. Because it was you know that whole thing at the end of the year where he was active but they had no intention of playing him until that one game against the eagles were the you know everybody started to go down and he was forced to go in the game but I guess one of the reasons. I'm even considering this was just. That Diana's tweet indicated that Rivera's going to talk to him and I said I think on the radio show maybe two three weeks ago. That wouldn't shock me. If Rivera you know brought Norman back on some sort of one year incentive team friendly deal and if that were to happen I would trust it. You know because nobody's going to know him better than Rivera. I think he's also Bob will. Rogers wants to talk with them and say listen. No hard feelings. I think Josh is really highly. Ron I like. I don't know that Ron wanting to talk to him. Meanwhile means Ron wants to bring him back. I don't it good I just to me. I I think that ship sailed. I could be wrong. All Right Quinton Dunbar. Thing you know was Initially you were a part of the reporting on on Dunbar. You got the quote from him About him wanting to be traded or released doc had a conversation. Obviously he backed off his comments to you a little bit How do you think this? What's the results of this? Is that the team doesn't have a cornerback without Quinton Dunbar. Right now they have to add a lot of players at that position if he's not playing on this roster next year. Yeah I I think the more kind of just wanted to back off a little bit of what he said. I think he was having an emotional response and not being contacted by the new staff. He's underpaid there's no guaranteed money on a deal I think quite honestly he probably signed a bad deal in two thousand eighteen but he never made any money and they put a little money in his face. He's GonNa take you right. I mean he was undrafted guy. That's against undrafted guys. That could've played the year on A. Aren't they tender? Instead he decided to take the the contract extension I think one of Ron's big skills that he is celebrated for his ability to speak to and relate to players and I think that's just going to change the dynamic was going I think they might have to guarantees money for him I think Caribbean and shred are kind of similar situations just was much bigger price ties. I think both those guys are probably focused on free agency and twenty twenty one. Both guys have one year left on the deal with no guaranteed money and I think the organization can can appease both players by guaranteeing some of the cash within their deal I and I was wrong or the organization. I would have a some sort of an agreement that hey and I'm going to guarantee that I want you at every voluntary workout. I I WANNA see you as a part of this rebuild all in on the team and And that'll be interesting to see. That kind of thing happens What kind of have to wait and see? Because I think I think Clinton's frustration are understandable. If you look at it from his side of things but if you're the team and this it's a valuable asset to have a starting corner that is when he's healthy he's pretty damn good at three million dollars. I don't think the team would would really offered to to move that asset. It'd be one thing if you had if it was last year and he wanted to be traded when there's two years left on his deal but at this point one year left on a deal. I don't know what people would offer in a trade for. Dunbar he's GonNa play here. I think it's just a matter of trying to figure that out how you make it work. You said something about the deal that he signed in twenty eighteen. That's interesting to me because you're right the team and they did it. You know a little bit with Jordan Reed to a certain extent where they were ahead of things. A little bit Initially one of the Ryan Kerrigan early deals. They were ahead of it a little bit. It's just so funny. Because they did get a really good deal on a player that was sort of emerging. Hadn't made money yet a lot of money yet. Sort of took advantage with some vision and signed him to a deal that really worked for the team in for him. He was in that position where he hadn't as you mentioned hadn't earned a big massive paycheck yet and they took advantage of that and yet at the most important position on the field. They didn't have any vision. After the two thousand fifteen season to lock up a quarterback who's contract would have been barely the top half two years later it's amazing to me But that also then also speak also paying market dollars or or somewhere near market rate which they would have had to for Kirk versus. I mean you talked about supplemental that Bruce loved his bargain than south. That and the thing was a bargain whereas Kurds even back in two thousand fifteen they probably would have had to go to what would kirk and one and. I can't remember he was going to be. It was somewhere in the neighborhood have turned out to be somewhere in the neighborhood of forty five to fifty guaranteed you know so where around eighteen to nineteen somewhere per year which would have two years later. Barely been in the top half of the League in quarterback salaries. When I love you and I love that we're talking about. I know how she and always turns it back to Kirk. Somehow I can't wait till I get the tweets after this one guy on twitter. God I don't even know who that is but you know thank him. I appreciate that. That's very nice I don't know if you've heard. Did you see all these tweets about Norman? No it was so cold blooded. It was It was video of Norman getting towards throughout. Td against the eagles. Invention and Al-Said Josh ornans last parting gift. The redskins got US chase. Y'All oh wait. What was the end of that? 'cause he losing that game got him a number of ood. Yes yes yes yes. Of course right. So what what did he do? He Hashtag it Jason. I don't yeah. Josh norms. Final gift to us as Redskins Fans Hashtag. That's a good one that's true. I mean it's totally true. And they were doing their best to win the game but maybe at the end. They did put in Josh Norman so that they could lose it. Somebody was hurt them. Yeah a lot of them got hurt. They didn't WanNa play in that game. So let's get to Trent Williams because you mentioned something earlier to you said that Trent Williams and you know in the discussion about Quinton Dunbar that they both probably WanNa get to unrestricted free agency. Trent does in two thousand twenty one. How does he get there in? Twenty twenty one if he without playing two consecutive years if it goes that way versus staying in playing on an extended deal I drank plays the last year. Deal in twenty twenty with the Red Eye. I mean with the With the years he's accrued in the NFL his contract comes fully vested and he shows up for week one. So why wouldn't the Redskins just guarantee x? Amount of that to make him happy. I mean with Trent New Organization can really send a signal that things are different and that it's not petty in indicative anymore by kind of meeting the player halfway and I guess. I don't think Trent is looking for a contract extension here. I mean maybe he is maybe he wants to but like you're a year away from free agency. What will be a higher salary? Cap is about to be a new. Cba where players you know maybe getting bigger percent one percent more of the of the Revenue Pie. And who knows what's going to happen. I if I if trends willing to sit out a year like he's already shown I think he'd be crazy not to play this year and go to free agents and let me say that my response to that would be from team perspective. It would be crazy to have him play twenty twenty on his last year. The deal is when you win. Now you're going to risk losing him in twenty twenty one to unrestricted free agency. I'd either extend him or trade him. It's either or from the team's perspective. If I'm the team might trading him and trying to get as much as I can get form now or I am extending him. I'm not letting him play one year at you know twelve fourteen million bucks whatever it is and then leave me after twenty twenty. I think that's that's fair to I think trade would make sense And maybe an extension makes sense. Maybe all parties would be into that. I don't know But I I think I don't know what the trends trade value is. The time to train threatens last year was last autumn of course offers on the table and what what happened in the transition. Last year was legitimate organizational malpractice. It was so so shortsighted and dumb But this year I mean if you get a third for Trent or would you rather have shrimp for a year to protect the way and make your offense for to look better and maybe Jaren Christian learns from I. I don't like I get you always want to be looking towards the future and that's the right mindset but you also want to win some games and maybe RON WANTS TO IRAQ. From three in ten to seven and nine. Maybe he really thinks that could springboard hymns in twenty twenty one where they make a real jump. I know but you know I like. You can't always say all to keep this guy. Let him play one years dumb. That one year is important. Well I wouldn't say that about everybody. I would say that about him. Because he's made it very clear how he feels and he may feel differently now but his goal is to eventually. Yeah that's fair but but still. He is much more likely to leave in twenty twenty one as an unrestricted free agent then to stay versus most players. We might be be having a conversation about and of course things could change the relationship with Ron Rivera. In the new coaching staff could be phenomenal. You know so i. That's sort of you know something that we don't know now clearly if it's a third and by the way you're right to think that the compensation for him is going to be less than it would have been a year ago or last summer or early in the season or even right before the trade deadline in twenty nineteen because he's only got one year left on his deal and you're going to have to extend them. You know you may have had to do that last year. Anyway and be as we get closer to the to the draft. It's becoming more and more apparent that this is a draft loaded with tackles you know in in several of them could go in the first round so teams would potentially wait to see what they get in the draft before they make a trade. If it's GONNA BE PRICEY THEY REALLY. It was malpractice of the highest order. They should be sitting year entering the April twenty twenty draft with the an additional first round pick and perhaps even more they should be but they're not absolutely absolutely they messed up and that's why we've gone You Know I. I don't know that the trump thing wasn't the final Straw. I think it was one of many straws but like yeah they. It was a terrible terrible decision in brother shortsighted. And I know you have to go but I just want to ask you this. What's next I think? Jordan Reed decision on that Scott to be coming next right or am I forgetting something else. Unemployed Richardson Easy. One I I think I think that comes quicker I the re one you got. I don't know I don't know his contract structure. But there's some PLA- Some contracts have caveats about guaranteed for injury. Money guaranteed for injuries and he should be sitting on something like that. You also might be. I don't know I mean he I don't I don't know how close he ever got to being cleared last year by even out of the protocol and there might be some type of mechanization wear a player in the protocol can't be released. I I just I think people think the thing is is more cut and dry than it is okay. That's that's good to know I mean you know that. I just think it could be more conflict so I don't know if I've said this on the podcast. The radio show and I have no idea if you reported at any pointer of mentioned it on your podcast or anything else. There was that one part of the season. I don't know if you were hearing some of the same things or not I was hearing not necessarily You know a terrific source necessarily but some conversation. The Jordan definitely could have been cleared to play but really was sort of hesitant to comeback. And by the way I'm not blaming him after all of those concussions but I am wondering if you heard anything similar to that I did not hear that and I don't want to say I kind of heard the opposite but I tell you this I. I saw Jordan working out throughout the year like well into the fall well into the probably into November. And you know he he was working out like a guy trying to get back on the field so I don't know on that one I if if he was hesitant to come back after all the concussion I wouldn't blame him. I feel the same way to yes but I knowing him knowing that is Do a warrior mindset. And I would expect that to be the case but it also wouldn't shock me if if this that what are the head in Atlanta last year in the preseason gotta change his mind I I I mean. I'm not intentionally speculating. I did not have these. Were things that you like you and me in others. We hear things all the time and that was something that was circulating there for a while that I don't think I ever brought to the air because it wasn't really substantiated but putting speculation to the side was he ever officially cleared are. Y- so you're saying you don't think he was ever cleared from the concussion protocol. I don't know I don't think so. I don't know I don't know either I it'd be a either but you're not the right word but we're not allowed to ask questions like right. Somebody's in the protocol. We're not allow like you can ask for an update but they don't have to provide all this mysterious protocol. And then I mean he was placed on I. Are we eight or something? I didn't get placed on all right away Maybe earlier met. I'd have to go back and shot. But it's not like they don't send out a press release. Somebody's cleared from the product. Yeah I know exactly what you're saying in in to your earlier point it it could be you know. It could be sort of complicated with respect to his contract if he hasn't been cleared and if dollars were guaranteed for injury which they usually are for a player of his caliber And trying to figure out a way to if he's not gonNA play football Again to SORTA get him what he's owed without having be. B You know sort of punitive punitive from a cap standpoint. It'll be tricky One of the first challenges for Rob Rogers. I'm sure I gotta run. I appreciate the time I'll talk to you soon. Thank you all right. Jp thinly everybody that redskin talk. Podcast is another redskins related. Podcast you gotta listen to and of course follow him on twitter at J. P. Finley NBC. S all right thanks to JP for jumping on with us so this morning Aaron woke up and there were several sort of messages on twitter. Have you seen this? Have you seen this? And it was this video. That sort of borderline gun you know viral from Matthew mcconaughey of Matthew mcconaughey and Dan Snyder together. at the Super Bowl And he most of you know this. Matthew mcconaughey is a Redskin Fan. He went to Texas grew up in Texas went to ut. Huge longhorns fan in everything and is always on the sideline for the big Texas Games But he's all he for whatever reason he was always a redskin fan and he's been many redskins games over the years and he's you've seen him occasionally with Dan Snyder Bruce Allen or somebody else on the sidelines before a game but a big redskin fan so he and Dan Snyder were together In a suite during the Super Bowl Eleven days ago or whatever it was and they produce this very short you know eleven to twelve second video the first voice. You're gonNA hear both McConnell. Hey and Snyder talking. But it ends with McConnell. Hey Sang happy thanksgiving. And I'll describe what happened after that after you listen to it. You're the Super Bowl with Matthew Games. That all right. I'll ride arrive. Thanks giving so. He says Matthew mcconnahey in Montana. He says I'm here with Dan. Snyder and Snyder says all right. All right. All right and then Matthew mcconaughey. Hey says happy Thanksgiving and they put their arms around each other and laugh it off and walk off. So this is making the rounds. I mean like you know. Thousands of likes this tweeted video You know hundreds of re tweets etcetera etcetera. So I get you know. I got a when people sent this to me this morning. There was wow snyder. Looks like a normal human being or wow what a dork and how disingenuous. Nobody can sort of agree on this video. Couple of things number one first of all. If I haven't told this story or you never heard Cooley. Tell the story because he told the story on the air one game many. I don't know three four five six years ago Mcconnell hey was in the booth before the game I think it was before the game or maybe he came at halftime. Whatever and Cooley. You know went over to him and say. Hey Matt Chris Cooley and McConnell. Hey looked at Cooley and said it's matthew very seriously cooley. Described like I am not met I matthew and even her Dan Snyder say here with Matthew mcconaughey So just in case you ever run into Matthew mcconaughey and talk ball you WanNa talk redskins with him. Make sure you address him as Matthew Matthew Addresses Snyder as Dan. Not Mr Snider. But he doesn't work for Mr Snider. So that's understandable Was this like a moment of self deprecation for Snyder. I don't know it. These kinds of things don't hurt him though you know it. Is You know by definition with the happy Thanksgiving there at the end and then putting their arms around each other and laughing at off. There's some self-deprecation they're you know I in and it makes him look better i. It's not like this huge reveal. You know it certainly wasn't that funny but for those of you. That still have this idea that it was some sort of inside joke when he said happy. Thanksgiving what he meant to say. Happy New Year's that the inside joke having something to do with the redskins beating the Panthers Ron Rivera's team on Thanksgiving weekend which led to Ron Rivera. Being fired it was not an inside joke. Does anyone is still think. Yeah I think some people do man and it's fine because the PR people tried to spin it. That way in some people bought it. You know it actually was a you know. It was a nice attempt at at at spinning something. You know very awkward and unfortunate into something that might have been intentional but it wasn't I know that for a fact and not critical of it. I I'll I've got the same view on it that I had when I heard it that day. I've empathy sympathy. You know I mean my God. I mean we've known for years that you know this owner has been in part reclusive in parties. Kept Bruce Allin. Because he doesn't and isn't comfortable in his own skin in front of a of a large group of people and a microphone. You know on a podium. I mean that's not as thing you know. It's not the thing for most people. Public speaking fear of public speaking is is the number one phobia for most people in this country. So it's not unusual in that is not Public speaking anxiety does not like pick and choose based on your income or your net worth okay. So maybe he's got a better ability to sort of seek out help to help them with it than others and I suggested he should medicate you know before he goes out and does those things but whatever. I felt sorry for him that day. And I didn't WANNA we didn't play over and over and over again like other shows. I'm not trying to you. Know be a holier than Thou because I've ripped him plenty of times as most of you know and I'm not I but but trust me. I'm not being disingenuous when I say that. I actually had empathy for him that day that I felt for him because I knew it was uncomfortable. I knew it was going to be uncomfortable before that day started. I knew it was for him and to come out and to start with happy. Thanksgiving I mean got. It couldn't have gone any worse but anyway It led me to thinking about this and I I did this on the Radio. Show this morning like. Is there anything this person could do? Dan Snyder to change the opinion that people have of him like anything you know the the backdrop of this is that he is viewed In a way. That's not polarizing It's totally one-sided this significant majority the overwhelming majority of Washingtonians sports fans non sports fans redskin fans non redskin fans is that they do not like this person. Redskin fans despise him. Overwhelmingly he is without much debate. And you can hit me with who you would put in the same class in terms of figures in the history of this city. That aren't political. He's the most despised person in the history of this town. That isn't a politician. GimMe another one. I mean I've given you in the past John Wilkes booth from the area. But I mean seriously and it's because of what he is professionally more than anything else. I can't speak to what he is personally. I don't know him. You know I've heard stories from people who've had dealings with him. You know outside of football or with respect to tickets or sweetser. I've heard a lot of stories in overwhelmingly. Those stories have been negative. Okay they have been but I don't have a personal experience to speak to so it's hard for me to personally attack him. 'cause I don't have a personal experience but it's easy for all of us professionally. Criticize what he's done to something. That was so sacred. You know we had something here for a long period of time. If you're of a certain age age older and younger to a certain degree by ten fifteen twenty years if essentially if you are over if you're thirty or older you're old enough to have lived. You know with awareness of this franchise when it was viewed as one of the best franchises in all of sport not just the NFL all of sports winner. Champion Class ACT LED BY PEOPLE. That were incredibly likable. Like Joe Gibbs in Bobby Beth third Charley casserly and characters and players like John Riggins and Darryl Green and art monk in the hogs. And all of that I mean it was you know we talked about the xfl earlier in the week it was it was a habit it was it was a a passion habit. Like you know you couldn't wait for Sunday's you couldn't wait for fall. You couldn't wait for the next game. It was. It was a source of incredible joy. Most of the time. But even if it wasn't you're you're dedicated you're influenced your impacted by it. You know there were real emotions tied to it. And the last two decades have sucked the life out of it for a lot of you and me to a certain extent it has i. I'm not the same fan that I used to be. I'm not you know I. It's been incredible. It incredibly difficult to continue to have the same level of interest and passion in this team. I think if I didn't do what I do for a living I'd have even less interest And be where a lot of my friends are to a certain degree now I was always probably borderline crazy loyal and crazy into it And I I'll admit I mean they start winning and winning big and winning with you know more Sort of a of a functioning at a high level organization. I'm back end and I can. I can set aside what I think about the owner professionally and just root for the players and the coaches that. I might end up liking but he took something in two decades and he ruined it. I mean there's no doubt who is most responsible for something that we took so much pleasure from he ruined it completely ruined it over the last two decades and so. I wonder whether or not there's any chance that people would ever feel differently about him. I think most won't I think some will just try to ignore the fact that he's the owner if they have success but I wonder if there's any chance that he could repair his image and repair the enchaine the narrative on him which is despised. Overwhelmingly to somehow tolerated. I won't say liked or loved that seems to be completely out of the realm of possibility but perhaps tolerated you know somewhere down the road. I mean Yankee fans had steinbrenner but they won you know There have been some bad owners in sports. You know I mean. Think about Knick fans what they're going through rights James Dolan as far as sports figures right now is the only one on Snyder's level. Yes the owner. The only one on Snyder's level this point you know Bill Bidwell. The longtime owner. The cardinals fans did not the bad ownership. You know terrible ownership of that team for a long time. But I don't know that fans despised him or disliked him in the same way. You know his son who runs the team now. Bill bidwill are what are. His son is Is His son. Bill Sons. Not Bill I forget what his son's name his son who's significantly involved in running the team now because Michael Bill Bidwell passed away last year the year before. I believe Michael is the Michael is the one. Yeah Michael went to Georgetown. Prep here locally He he's come back to the school and actually spoken on like father son night. I was there one year where where he came back and spoke so I I don't know what the Cardinal Family And Fan base thinks of him but I don't I think the best Dan Snyder could hope for is to continue to do things like this. You know that come off as somewhat self deprecating admitting his flaws being maybe more accessible that's hard. I know it's hard for him and I don't expect him to be more accessible. You know. I think Ron Rivera is going to be the voice of this Organization for the most part for the next two to three years minimum But maybe you know at some point. He is tolerated. Of course what would have to put people into the of just tolerating him would be a winning. Football team like sustained winner. You know not one offs but you know a five six seven eight year run in something. Like what Seattle's gone through here over the last. You know since Russell Wilson in two thousand twelve. You gotTa have that kind of a run. And then maybe he'll be tolerated at that point but you know it's important for him to understand that his actions As it relates to this organization are the only chance. He has to repair his image in repair and and change the way people think of him. It's not just winning. It's winning in a way that makes people proud. I mean I'll look at this point. I'll just take the winning a seek the winning and I don't care from proud or not but it's been so much more over the years than just the consistent losing it's just been the things that they have done publicly have been incredibly off pudding to most normal people Normal I guess is subjective. I I will concede that point Anyway last thing want to get to After I remind you that were available on not all podcast platforms. We've got an APP now. He can download the Kevin Sheehan show APP if you want to listen that way Also there's the Kevin Sheehan show dot com but we have to quickly talk about what is right now on the game of the year for our turps tomorrow night at Michigan State. A week ago tonight was the game of the year you know the game in Illinois that they went in one after trailing by fourteen But you know Michigan. State's been the heavyweight in this league in this league. That Maryland is now in its sixth season in this league. Right Sixty yes. That's right And and They haven't beat Michigan State since year. One on the road at the present centers and one of the most difficult places in the country to play Obviously it's because they've had great teams But they also have a terrific home environment. It's the Espn Game Day site tomorrow. It's a six. Pm Tip There will be you know a fired up. Student section fired up crowd because they broke their three game losing skid winning Illinois the other night seventy to sixty nine they blew a huge lead. Net game held on one that game This is always. The time of year is Tom Izzo teams. Put it together and start winning heading into the tournament ranked right now which is really quite amazing. Considering that started the years the top ranked team in the country Michigan State with those three straight losses to Wisconsin Penn State Michigan actually fell out of the top twenty five with their win at Illinois. If they were to Maryland tomorrow obviously they'll burst right back into it and probably you know into the top twenty easily. Not just the top twenty five but This is a huge opportunity for Marilyn Aaron. You know They got bullied last year. They got beat up last year in that game at the Breslin Center. They've had a tough time with Michigan state in recent years last year. The game at home was one-sided They got outrebounded. They got defended. They got taken out of their game consistently throughout. It was an ugly game. I don't remember what the final score was. It was never really competitive in that game. I think they were down. Twelve thirteen at the half. Probably lost by fifteen In that game and it's been like that a little bit for Maryland in Michigan State. This is the team that will when Maryland went into the big ten. I was hopeful if there was going to be a rivalry. I didn't want it with rutgers. You know. I was hopeful that maybe Michigan State in Maryland could create a thing. You know to powerful programs Michigan State more successful. You know more final fours. All that is oh the whole thing I I understand that but is also talked a lot on the radio today again. I would urge you to go listen to. It talked a lot about his. You know his love for Gary Williams and his relationship with Gary Way Williams and how many games he remembers playing Maryland Michigan State met twice in the tournament. Once in the sweet sixteen in two thousand and three a game Maryland. Took the lead late in After coming back and then lost I think in overtime in the sweet sixteen and then of course everybody remembers. The Gut Wrenching Corey Lucius buzzer beater. In the second round of the two thousand ten tournament. A game in which Maryland. Trailed by sixteen is remembered to air and he said you know the crazy thing about that game. He said we had that gaming control. Most of the way we're up sixteen and Gary goes to that press and they start turning this over the press in gravest went into God mode. He said he said and then they had to guard and I said Gravest Vasquez he said Yeah. Vazquez went nuts. He was a terrific player. And that was that was one of the most painful losses of a team that I root for of all time because we loved baskets they had won the ACC regular season title. They were before seed playing Michigan State. Who was a five right when that what it was or was it was it to three or four or five or something like that? It was a four or five game because the winner would have yeah Kentucky who had just lost to North Northern Iowa yes Maryland was the higher seeded team. I do remember that. Yes and I think Marilyn was favored in that game as well But anyway they didn't win Corey lucious. Who ENDED UP GETTING SUSPENDED AND KICKED OUT OF SCHOOL? I think than the next season Hits the BUZZER beater and but Maryland Played Michigan State. A lot in early season tournaments in Israel reminded me so we played a really good game in Madison Square Garden. And Anyway Yeah I have history. They played at that. Massive success won that Game Right. Maryland won that game. They also want it. Looks like what I guess would be the ACC big ten challenge in? Oh eight nine. Where a Maryland? One that one as well. I think that one may have been at a tournament. I think that one may have been at a tournament. I could be wrong Because I don't think they faced each other in. Acc Big ten challenge. You know what you're right because that's that was late November. So yeah a little early so that he may have been in. Orlando actually yet now. They say that that sounds right. but But this is the Michigan State. Let's face it big. Ten's got a lot of really good basketball programs more great football programs but as a basketball league. I mean Indiana in Michigan State have been powers produce really had very good teams at times over the years with legendary coaches. Now you know Gene Katie Matt in in certainly You Know Matt painters. I think one of the best coaches in one of the most unheralded coaches in the country. Ohio state's got a basketball reputation. Wisconsin obviously with great Basketball Tradition Illinois and Iowa have basketball tradition in Maryland. Joined a league with you. Know I'm not gonNA say more basketball tradition than the ACC but a lot of programs that have a lot of it in but Michigan. State's been the player here over really a twenty year period. You know going back to when they won the national championship in two thousand. Is those poor Michigan state programs? Been the best program in the big ten and if Maryland wants to Maryland's had basically all top two three top four finishes except for one year since they've been in the League. I believe that's true Right top four every year but that one year where they didn't make the tournament two years ago. You think they've pretty pretty much had top four finishes but they haven't won the league you know haven't won the League haven't won many tournament games. Haven't won many tournament games. In fact they've into the semi-finals the big ten tournament twice loss to Michigan State both times so they haven't done well against Michigan State period. The first year they were in the League they beat Michigan State on the road in their first big ten game and then beat him at home but lost at the big ten tournament. I don't know I kind of feel like this is a big game for Maryland. I certainly have to win it. This is not going to knock him out of the big ten race and obviously they are the only you know the bubble watch. Espn does for tournament. Teams Maryland Right. Now is the only listed lock from the big ten but the big ten's can have nine thousand say is when it's one of those scenarios is like yeah hypothetically these teams could lose every game and then hypothetically Maryland could lose the rest of their games and they'd still be in the tournament that's probably true And that's not going to happen. Knock on Wood but tomorrow. What do you think the point spreads going to be? I guessed it earlier when he was I'm thinking Michigan state by three four somewhere. I said five or six on on the radio show. It wouldn't surprise me if there are five or six point favorite tomorrow. If we see something much less will be excited about it. Yeah you know you know in many ways. I know that Michigan State always plays great at the end of the year and they get going at the end of the year. He told me this morning is oh did. It's been a trying year you know. They've lost a bunch of players including that Kid Langford earlier in the season to injury. Really good player Cassius. Winston's brother was tragic. Inner tragically passed away And it's been very difficult for him to deal with. During the course of the year caches Winston arguably the best player in the big ten? All that said I expect them to get it rolling. They always do and tomorrow is probably a tough spot for the turps just like Illinois should have been a tough spot for them last Friday night. It's always a toss up but this is like you said it's not a must win for them but if they do win that puts them in a great position going forward. Well I mean they would be. At that point they would be two games. They will in the loss column. They would be three ahead of Michigan State. Yeah because that would be Michigan. State's sixth conference loss Merrill would have three and Illinois and by the way they would they'd be in position sort of win the head to head by playing him again. Exactly Penn state actually. It's scary as far as if you're if you're looking for let's win the conference. Outright Penn state has the tiebreaker. And they've got the tiebreaker and they have a good schedule going forward for them. I just pulled up their schedule because I looked at it the other day and I remembered it being not as difficult as some of the others. They have northwestern tomorrow at home. They've got Illinois at home. They play at Indiana on. They've already beaten Indiana once handily. Although Indiana beat Iowa last night at home a game that they really needed to have Because they're truly a bubble team Indiana Minnesota or the real bubble tastes right now in the big ten they beat Iowa last night at home bloom out. Actually they get right curse home penn state. Does they get Michigan State at home. They've already beaten him at the Breslin Center. Their their road games are at Indiana's mentioned at Iowa and northwestern they get northwestern twice. I think at Iowa the only game. They're not going to be favored. Yeah I mean it's possible. That could be a dog at Indiana. It's also possible. By the time we get to the Michigan State game. They could be a dog at home to Michigan State so Yeah Penn state sitting there with four losses. I mean th pretty odd. It who who's leading the big ten Maryland is in Penn State's second and rutgers is tied for third in the big ten Race right now so actually rectors is tied for fourth. My fault Should be a fun game tomorrow night. I think the key is Marilyn as they've had a couple of opponents this year that play like Michigan State in terms of that attitude in that physical way of playing Rhode Island they played early in the season Rhode Island's good and Maryland took a punch to the gut net game and then came back and won that game going away another real tough physical game for them. Was the Seton Hall Game. Even though miles pal didn't play in that game but Seton Hall's got some bruisers and Maryland didn't react very well in that particular game But Maryland's taken it to a couple of teams that had been physical this year Illinois. Rut Curse you know that win against rutgers at home was goodwin. Obviously purdue beating purdue And I I think you know right. Now they've got one of the best big men in America and one of the better point cards in the country playing right now going to have to make shots always comes down to like you did last week in Illinois. They made a bunch of shots at the end of the first half which kept them from being blown out and their defense sort of took over in the second half They're going to have to. You'RE GONNA have to make shots in this game and they're going to rebound to. That's going to be a key. Michigan State can bruise you inside and at the Rim and sticks. You know foul trouble. He stayed out of it pretty much most of the year Wouldn't surprise me tomorrow if Sticks Smith for the first time this year in a road game at Michigan State with his O- on one side line gets foul trouble. Wouldn't wouldn't surprise me at all. Wouldn't be shocking if that happens Anyway back on Monday Level out of basketball from the weekend. I'm not into the all star stuff guys. I'm sorry I couldn't care less I- Saturday night. I guarantee you if my son who who's at Maryland. If he's home he'll have it on and so I'll watch it Not NOT INSTEAD OF MARYLAND. Know Michigan State. Obviously that will be a number one In terms of television Watching this weekend but I just couldn't care less about the NBA All Star game. I don't like the also I watched some of the little all star Saturday stuff. I'm sitting the Saturday stuff. It doesn't it doesn't bore. I'm not big on it but usually there's not a lot though actually pretty Good College Basketball Games. Tamar that I'd probably watch instead. What are we HA- who's participating Duncombe? I think `Davis Batons isn't he participating in the three point. Three four okay. So maybe if that's on late after the Maryland game maybe I'll tune in to see if he can knock off Joe Harris. Who last year of am I right about that. I think it was Joe. Harris sounded Virginia kits laws. You can really really shoot it. anyway That's it for the day.
