Arizona Secretary of State Says GOP-Audited Machines Must Be Replaced

"Votes, Arizona Secretary of State tells Maricopa County It will need new elections equipment after the audit custody needs be retained by the election officials and that clearly didn't happen in this case. Katya ours, Peter say more joins us live from the news center with the story. Becky, the state's elections manual says on Lee certified county elections officials can keep custody of tabulation machines lost the minute those machines were turned over to the Senate and to their contractors, Katie Hobbs says her observers were not allowed to see what side Burnin just did with the equipment and there's no life feed on it, she tells supervisors. Replacing it could cost $6 million shouldn't be new information to them. We brought this issue early on in the process. Hobbs doesn't think she could re certify the equipment or fix or rebooted if damaged by the August 2022 primary elections process is not comprehensive enough. You fully rehabilitated any compromise equipment or provide enough assurance that the equipment is still safe to use in a statement? Maricopa County says Cyber Ninjas still holds 385 tabulate Ear's, but they will not be used quote unless the county state and vendor are confident that there is no malicious hardware or software installed on the devices. 15 months out from the August primary left 14 months out from where equipment has to be Tested for the actual election. The replacement of this equipment is gonna be time consuming and what we needed the county to know is that if the county intends to redeploy any of the subpoenaed equipment over what they lost custody and control, then our office would need to consider the certification proceedings of the equipment. "We're getting a huge response on social The media from the audio of that traffic stop by an l. A police officer or in l. A. Um, uh, This is something that police deal with. I'm hearing from a lot of officers and troopers and deputies out there that are echoing these kind of sentiments. I have a friend whose husband just retired. And she said her husband was this happen to her husband. I believe at the airport and she was illegally parked and screaming. He was a racist and a killer and everything else and that someone had stolen her cell phone and he didn't care. And it turns out that the phone wasn't stolen. She left it in a restaurant at the airport. I'm sure she apologized, though. S so we're gonna talk about this again later on in the show. We'll try to get the video up online. But it is a viral video. You can see it just about anywhere. Got to talk about before we talk about education and this morning's education. I'm really I don't do this often with this big promotion. But 905 there is a training video out there about critical race theory and school boards. That you have got to hear. I mean, it is. This is absolutely critical that everybody see here this the training is available to school board members. It's not required yet. It's not required, but it is recommended. And in this video, they talk about whiteness and and all of these things that divide us, But it's how secretive it is and how parents are not going to like this and how you'll hear all of it and as much as I can squeeze in Because there is so much of this going on. I'm going to take up from the whole first half hour, the nine o'clock hour talking about this, so I hope you'll stick around for it. Um, Katie Hobbs, the secretary of state was on yesterday with ghettos and Chad. And she had this to say about her concerns in the audit. We were concerned because the company didn't have election experience. They didn't have auditing experience. We weren't It seemed like they were making it up as they go along, and from the time that our observers have been in there, those things have all been confirmed in terms of rules that are not really Relevant Tonto Anak Chu election audits. So when I ask the question, we have the open mic line, which is available for you to speak up. And I would love to hear from Republicans because I am I saying that I'm very open about my biases and everything else. I am a registered Republican. I'm a Republican voter. I was a part of the Bush campaign and old four eyes. A volunteer. I actually worked with the party for a few years and probably a little less than two years a long time ago, and I'm a Republican voter, and I would love to hear how Republicans feel about this on it. Is it starting to become embarrassing you? Is it starting to become a side show? Is the media responsible for that? What do your feelings about this audience? There's on it. The phone number six Oh, 2 227 33. That's 602 to 002733. Love to hear how Republicans feel about this audit and how it's going not necessarily whether it was warranted or not, but how it's going because that's one of my biggest concerns. There's a story we have a Katya are calm about who's funding this. Um, one of the 11 America news Networks. Kristina Bob launched a five on one nonprofit raised $150 for the on it Now this is the only network That is sending out the live stream of the audit. Did they pay for that? Um, we There are other business people that are raising money to pay for this thesis. Tate Legislature. The state Senate is paying $150,000 of this. But, um, the Republican party is fundraising for this. And the Secretary of state is saying she's got major concerns and they're being fulfilled. And I don't I will be honest with you I when they announced that they were going to audit this a long time ago. I said that the American people deserve to know what happened in this election that if there are that many people that believe that something was going on, not just in Arizona, but in states across the country that the American people have a right to be satisfied, and it's this is nothing new. The Democrats did it four years ago when Trump beat Clinton. Um, it was it was crazy. The Russians stole the election, the United States Congress, So if you're going to get angry with the Arizona State Senate for doing what they're doing, what about Nancy Pelosi? And what she did in four years of investigations using two committees in the United States Congress to go after the president tried to get rid of him. And how about the mother report and the millions of dollars that cost people? So if we're gonna argue about one, we gotta argue about both. Because four years ago that's what we saw happen and the entire time Trump was president. That's what happened. So my concern as a Republican voter is what do you What do you gaining? What is happening here? Because I know what the intent was. Are they reaching that intent? Are they able to convince people in Arizona? A That what they're doing is honest, fair and unbiased. And are they going to be able to convince people if they found something that they found something the right way? So Katie Hobbs talking yesterday, Secretary of State goes on with gators and shed. I don't know why they're waiting paper. I don't know why they're using UV lights. But those aren't gonna do anything, Tolo. Um, T satisfy any real concern. And so that's a big and then and then we had, um, the former legislator. Kern, who was there is counting votes and I talked with Ken Bennett about that. And he said, there's no concern here. Because current is not on. We're not counting that race. We're only counting the Senate race in the presidential race, so there's nothing that he can do here. But is there a concern Having someone who was a part of the stop The steel rallies doesn't lend itself to the bias accusation, and the secretary of state, the current secretary of state, said this regardless of whether current was on the ballot or not. He clearly Woz at the Capitol on January six, obviously has a new agenda about this so called audit, All right, coming up in a moment, we're going to dive into the gate owes big Q poll question of the day and then it's education just after nine o'clock, all that is coming up right around the corner, so stick around for it. You know, trading wealth is available to help people get to retirement. I mean, that's the goal, right. We still want to retire and trade and wealth have been working here in the valley with families and individuals for a long time, and they understand that this is something that is very specific and very individual. There's not a one size fits all. What they want to do is help you navigate the good economy like it's going right now gangbusters in the stock market. But what is gonna happen next? And are you prepared for whatever happens next? The answers they will help you make sure that you.

"Well i don't think it's feasible to actually hand. Count every ballet. I mean an end. But i will tell you that. There are many safeguards around the equipment so law and as part part of the big lie right people telling how that is insecure and that is absolutely false and we do logic and accuracy tests on For every county Before every election and then the county is also conduct. Post-election logic inaccuracy tests to prove that the equipment is functioning. The way that it's supposed to and there is no internet connectivity of these writings or anything like that and so so it is secure. We take great steps to ensure that that happens because it's it's it's not feasible to count millions of ballots by hand But we can make sure that we are securing equipment and that the is doing its job. And that's that's what we deal and then when you do audits or you know just just the way when they when it comes out that the numbers jibe you gotta go okay so this is working right so you don't have to hand count every ballot but you do audits and stuff and in georgia. They did i believe. Two or three hand recounts and found no problems. So katie hobbs. You are the democratic secretary of state narrow. Zona are you the only executive level official in arizona. Who's a democrat. I know we d arrigo now has two democratic senators which is an interesting development. How about on the state level. Sue in two thousand eighteen when i was elected on along with carson cinema to the senate we also elected kathy hoffman as the superintendent of public instruction and then we added a democrat to the corporation commission so so she was alone soldier there and from two thousand eighteen to twenty and then another democrat was elected to the calm and this last election. So there's four of us In statewide office. And then if you count the two. Us senators six. But you still have. The republican governor and lieutenant governor. When are they up for to be challenged. put it that way just to clarify. Arizona does not heavily tenant governor. Don't mind basically defacto emily are. We just. don't have that in our nation so all of our statewide offices with the exception of the five corporation commission seats. Two of those will be up in the two thousand twenty two election. Okay so so secretary of state is a big job. And i guess it differs if you look at the federal secretary of state we're talking about international relations diplomacy but the state secretaries of state number one do oversee elections. Is that the case in every state that that's a that's a responsibility of secretary of state. No a couple of states And the game north carolina and illinois have an independently. Well i don't know if it's independently but the election administrators that are appointed in one way or another by the governor or the Legislature into their secretaries of state not oversee elections and then not. Every secretary is elected either lena their secretaries appointed but does oversee elections in georgia. Because georgia was in the spotlight much as arizona was during this election cycle. The secretary of state rapids burger. I believe what's his name is a republican as is the the the the Governor brian kemp. Who is you know. Way out there. they both sorted. Did the right thing when it came to this election. They were saying let we did our job. This election is valid. These votes are real. They did the recount. They recounted again but they're both still republicans. Well today the former guy just endorsed some talk. Show hosts congressman or something to go to run against rapids. Burger to be the new secretary of state in in georgia. So no good. Deed goes on punished. I guess katie. Hobbs in arizona. Have you decided what you're doing. Are you running for reelection. Or maybe i know. I know a former arizona. Secretary of state was jan brewer and she went on to become governor. Any any chance you might run for higher office. We'll gendered run for that. Oh she was point yeah well. She succeeded because napolitano wins he homeland security and also. She was next in line as your next line. I yeah i have not publicly announced my plans for the twenty twenty two election. Okay so so. You're still considering all your options. I guess where okay that works so so right now. Arizona and arizona is not unique all around. The country states are that are in legislative session. I'm in florida. It's happening here where the legislators are introducing all of these voter suppression bills. Interestingly enough at a time when congress is hoping to pass the john lewis voting rights act trying to pass real voting election reform by way of hp one and now sp one and yet in the state houses the the horrible legislation that's being pushed through to curtail mail in voting to curtail dropbox everything that worked in november. They want to do away with and this was interesting. I just found this. Arizona leads the nation in proposed voter suppression legislation with twenty four restrictive bills. Pennsylvania's in second place with fourteen right now. So are you up to speed on what these bills are that are working their way through the legislature. Couldn't say all the provisions of all of them were we in terms of what we're concerned about and what we're keeping our eyes on. Yeah we're we're very well aware of this legislation so the and what's happened. I mean are. Are you in danger in florida. For instance there are many more registered democrats than the republicans but the the republicans run everything on the state level. They control the house. They control the senate. They control the executive branch. The only democrat in the statewide in the executive offices is nikki freed. Who's the agriculture secretary. Who's probably going to run for governor. But frankly i don't know she's the agriculture secretary. We are at a disadvantage because frankly the florida democratic party. Kinda sucks in arizona. How's it looking. What's the what's the breakdown like in the legislature there. Are they going to be able to do this. And i mean republicans have the majority and the thing is right now is that they have the slimmest majorities that they've had in decades how split is thirty one twenty nine senate is sixteen fourteen and with even given that. I think that's an indicator that arizona is continuing on. You know we're going to continue to swing state. And i've never seen the level of extreme proposals that were seeing this year on voter suppression legislation in arizona is not new but the number of bills the number of legislators who are pretend to be election experts Is just really unprecedented. And an i think without a federal floor in terms of voting access where continuing to see the voting rights act Chipped away at the that that this is really dangerous. In terms of voting rights not just in arizona but across the country it really is and and again you just came into the zoom room. As i was playing paul rick clip that i've gone to over the. I've been doing this for a long time. I keep playing that clip to show that. Republicans are very disciplined in this in this sense in that they play the long game for since one thousand nine hundred eighty. They've known they don't and somebody even just said at the other day in in terms of and i wish i remember who it was. It's it's old age. Brain fade coming on but said you know. The democrats are willing to risk fraud to let everybody vote but the republicans. We'd rather not to everybody not vote so there will be no fraud. Well it's a. It's a flawed premise. Because there is no voter fraud your secretary of state of arizona. katie hobbs. Have you seen any instance. How many instances of voter fraud have you found in your state..

I know what i'm doing i tomorrow morning anyway. Welcome to a monday. Everybody boy a brand-new week. Aren't we lucky. And yeah. this thing is still happening with the mike levels. And i don't know why i'm going to have to Engaged the services of a real engineer it seems well. I will attempt to ride the levels. Hopefully it won't be that annoying to all of you. Who are listening at well. And hopefully it's staying put where it is so what a weekend People who came down to south florida to to miami beach to do the spring break thing. Well they are. They're not having a very good time and the people who went to mar-a-lago for spring break or having even worse time because mora lago. I found it right when it right after we went off the air on friday that that moral ago you can hear me okay. Cool right after. We went off the air on friday. The news broke that. Mar-a-lago had a co vid outbreak. Tasty tends thank you in the youtube. Chat rooms is probably have to reboot the program. I did that. You don't know all weekend long. Not only did i reboot uninstalled and reinstalled and deleted Drivers and software and reinstalled it thinking that it has to be fixed. Believe me. I tried everything that i could possibly try this weekend except doing an actual test. Which is what. I should have done. I don't know. I don't know the gremlins really are. They're not being there. Not being nice to me wonder what happens if i do this. I'm afraid if i do this but we'll see going to see if this helps at all. I just want i don't need today. Let me tell you who we have coming on the show today. Ten day with all the voter suppression Bits of legislation working. Its way through the various state. Legislators we are going to speak with the secretary of state of arizona. Her name's katie. Hobbs and chances are you've seen her on television because she has been popping up every now and then and honestly the reason that i got her is i'm i'm i'm taking advantage of personal connections. David son max. His significant other works in katie. Hobbs office yes. She works for the arizona secretary of state. And i keep seeing all these stories about where the the this this voter suppression. These measures are going through in every state house and every state house where the legislature is in session. Like here in florida. And they're on arizona. These terribly suppressive measures are going through. We just came out of the best election in in recent history. The biggest outturn for sure the biggest turnout ever right and and the least amount of problems. I ascribe that to the fact that so many of us use paper ballots so the electronic voting machines were not an issue. Because that's where the fuck ups happen right or most of them anyway and so. Yeah so now the we are again. We're seeing so many of these. These bills working their way through various statehouses and arizona. Let me see if i can't find the story. I was just looking at arizona's seems to be among the worst. They have let me find it here. Out of yeah. Arizona leads the nation in proposed veterans suppression legislation in twenty twenty one with more restrictive bills. Working its way through the legislature as of february nineteenth. Listen to this statistic. This is stunning. State lawmakers have introduced profiled or over two hundred and fifty three bills with provisions. That were strict vetting access in forty three states. This is how republicans react to the least problematic biggest voter turnout election. We've had in decades. If ever right again it all goes back to my whole opposite world thing you know it's just astounding the way the way it works it in the whole opposite world theme is something. I came up with god many many years ago long before donald trump. You know y- before he was anything other than a you know a carnival. Shell a carnival barker which really is is what he does. Did you hear he was on called into our. He didn't call into fox today. they called him. Did you hear this. So there's a woman. I don't ever watch fox. So obviously because through osmosis. I guess you'll learn who their people are and so this woman. Her name is harris faulkner. Currently harris faulkner is of the actual. Well she is. She is regarded as one of these serious news. Voices at the fox really so she has she calls a donald trump today and and says to him. I'm gonna see if i can't find this audio. I don't want to hear his voice anyway. Basically in the middle of the call she says oh listen to this. One hundred marcus. The secretary of the department of homeland security just resigned. She's on the phone. Doing a live hate to call it an interview but you know live conversation with the orange one you know the former guy i guess from our lago. He's one of the people that was allowed to stay. Thereafter was shut down friday because of a covid outbreak. I'm not kidding. I couldn't make this up. True mar-a-lago is partially closed on friday. Because of an outbreak. But again you know. Donald trump and and malaria have both been inoculated. They don't want you to know that because that would be responsible of them but before they left the white house they both got their covid vaccines after both being infected with the cova themselves and being sicker than they ever let on because what they do is lie. You see how you go down this rabbit. Hough just start. I bring up his name and it leads to one thing to another to another. But he's on the phone with with a harris faulkner. Who is a a black woman which why she's on fox. I don't know then again. So as arthur level. I don't understand how anybody any person of color let me. Let me revise that even any person with any integrity or self worth could work over there. But i get it sometimes. You need the job. You need the paycheck. So but i don't think that's the case with these people anyway. He trump is on the phone with harris faulkner. And she says The secretary of health and human services just resigned.

"Right now. Arizona's Secretary of state Katie Hobbs, says she's appalled at phone call President Trump had with Georgia's secretary of state about the election results. Along the call President Trump said he needed to find about 12,000 votes. Secretary Brad Rafts Burger dismissed and debunk all the president's allegations of voter fraud in Georgia. The state Republican Party is part of a case aiming to get to give Vice President Mike Pence the ability to overturn an electoral college vote, and that case is on his way to the Supreme Court. Chairwoman Kelli Ward says they sent emotion directly to justice Alito, which she hopes speeds up the process. That case was dismissed

Vote counts continue in Georgia, Arizona; Trump mounts legal challenges

"Listen. Republican National Committee Chairperson Ronna McDaniel says she believes there is a path for President Trump to win the election despite the 2020 Democrat nominee Joe Biden of being six electoral votes away. From that to 70 count. Here she is. Arizona still has a significant amount of ballots that air out. They were election day or close to Election Day balance where the president had a significant margin and Pennsylvania So we feel like there's absolutely still a path. And we're going to fight in the states where we're seeing voting irregularities. Now. The Arizona secretary of State says Trump's campaign does not have a legal pathway of decides to sue the state over the voting count. During an interview on CNN, Katie Hobbs said, We're legally county valid ballots and there's no way to stop that. She continued. We have said from Day one that this is going to take some time. And we want to do it right. And that's the confusion. Right? There is some on the right. They say. Okay, what do you consider legally valid ballots? Yeah, that's that's that's a bit of a gray area is kind of the semantics. Yeah, and I don't blame Donald Trump. I I really don't is unfortunate is for the country right now to be going through this given everything he's been through for the past four years and the way he's been treated by the left and the media. I can't blame him for wanting to make sure that there's no corruption going on. I really cannot especially given the fact that it obviously it is doing a really, really whatever the result isthe. It's going to be damn tight. Listen, Democrat lawmakers are now calling on their partners in this election process. You're wearing pants, which were we all appreciate. Very exciting. It is very likely will be thrilled to know there is good for me. All right. We're going to be with you for the next two hours doing some live on local talk about the election Arizona and also the presidential election nationwide. And we're joined right now by Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. And Ah, sobs Welcome to the program. Hi. Thanks for having me. So this must be. I assume this is like opening night of a Broadway You've been rehearsing. You've been getting ready for months and months. And now here we are. How is it so far as anti climactic? Is it everything you expected? What's happening out there? You know, Polls are open and voters are voting and it's a great thing. We've seen pretty steady Ah ah flow at the polling places here America County and hearing the same thing throughout the state. How money I dont for tracking this closely, but how many votes have been cast today? Do we have that number? Yes. Well, I have it from Maricopa County over 83,000 in person Vote today and my correct what was the total early balloting that we received the mail in ballots or early votes? How many of those came in before today? Statewide? Over 2.6 million exceeds our total 2016 turnout. Yeah, we're one of six states around the country that exceeded the 2016 turnout in early balloting early voting this year. Hey, Katie. What were you expecting in person today? Because we want 80 plus 1000 so far, But how many were you expecting on what would be the number normally you'd get on a day like today. Uh, you know, I don't have those historic numbers. But you know, after all of the early ballots that we were seed we need there were still a number of voters left to cast ballots. And there's been so much enthusiasm to participate in this election that we did expect high turnout today as well. So thankful we had the opportunity to have a lot of voters vote early. So that we're able Teo, you know, accommodate the voters today with less crowding and lines and things like that. Okay, Hobbs joining us Arizona Secretary of State You expect the lines to get longer after people get off work today? Um, you know, we've we've had reports of lions. They haven't been too bad, but we dio we, It seems that there has been a pretty steady flow and so I think towards the end of the day. As more voters go, Teo vote that they're that they're there could be lions, and that's OK. If you're in mine at seven o'clock when the polls close, you will be able to still cast your ballot. What was the longest line reported today? So far, you know I I'm sorry. I don't have that information talking to a secretary of state. Katie Hobbs. All right. Ah, voter suppression, the worry of misinformation. Voter suppression polls being closed, Not enough workers. You hear all this stuff nationwide and and let's be real way shouldn't confuse sometimes just human beings, making mistakes and whatnot. For nefarious nous. But how is it so far out? There hasn't been smooth that we've seen any issues with voter suppression or anything at the poles. You know, we really haven't. There certainly was a lot of chatter leading up to this election. And I I think that a lot of it was just that just chatter designed to keep people from going out to vote. But that doesn't seem to have been working and we're not really seen anything actually going on today. We haven't really had any reports of anything serious. All right. So you're already the ballots are the early ballots are already being counted is a realistic We're going to know some sort of results tonight. We could have a lot of results available tonight. What you'll see at eight o'clock when we first post is all of those early ballots has already been tabulated. Um and then throughout the rest of the night that pulling Locations from today as those get reported to the tabulation centers at each county. Um, and so we'll have a good amount of the results of what will be outstanding as all of those early ballots that get dropped off today. Those who have to wait until tomorrow to start being signature verified and counted. When will you feel like I can rest a little bit easier? This the all of the chaos? The craziness is kind of behind. Now, I could take a deep breath. You know, after the polls close, and we start posting results and making sure there's no glitches with our election night reporting is when I am able to kind of take a breath and be like, okay, it's going to be fine. Um, At least that's how it was for the last two elections this year so far, so you know, so far things have seemed to go very smoothly. And I think that's a testament to the hard work that election officials across that they have done to prepare for this election. Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs joins us on Katie are do you You know how many early ballots were rejected so far, either because they weren't signed or something like that occurred? You know, I don't have that number. I am sorry. I don't think it's a large number and you know the county's That's why they asked for your phone number on the ballot with a.

"Of funeral that he wanted which has president. I had approve. I don't care about this. I didn't get. Thank you. That's okay. Yeah. Obviously care. I'll she went to meet this, man. It's not true. Right. I mean, it's none of it's true. The congress determines how they honor him who lays in state that she'll cathedral determined who uses the National Cathedral, the Zona state of Arizona governor Ducey determined whether we were going to honor him in the state capital. But does the president's comments like that? Does it hurt his reelection efforts in Arizona? I believe it does. How does it help? I mean, tactically speaking for him to win election to win re-election. You need Republicans aren't a plurality of the electric. So you need to get Republicans. You need all over all Republicans him up. He's already demonstrated a problem with Republican women, which we've seen electorally and now with independence and PND's the deeming party, not designated. Sorry. I didn't want the actually the so for those that part of the electorate that participates higher than independence. They actually knowingly. Register is not a party. And so those people, and then it's Democrats in who who can you persuade to to bring over? Well, this was played out. Just most recently in the cinema v mic. Sally where one hundred and eighty six thousand Arizona's voted for Doug Ducey and voted for Kirstin cinema. Yeah. Whatever you want to take completely independent PND. Right. These people voted on person personality. We know that in the what do you call it? The post mortem that the mic Sally campaign. Did that the connection to Trump was cited as one of the problem, and she wasn't the only example in that cycle out here? She Katie Hobbs, the secretary of state also one with a by persuading Republicans and others to vote for her and Kathy Hoffman. Our state superintendent. Yeah. So at three examples of that in the last cycle, and we saw a rising a degree of purple purpose in metro Phoenix area and attacks on McKinney and aren't going to do anything to undo the purple. No, it just it takes your whole deeper it. Absolutely. And that's why I think governor ducey's keeping his distance from this scene. And we saw Reese Mark from Martha mcsally yesterday curious. Why cinema has it waded into it more Senator her discipline has been to avoid anything Trump? And I think that's. Probably the right reaction is just ignore. Not not everybody anybody on the other side of the aisle advice. But you say it actually is pretty smart of cinema. Just say it is ignore the tweets. It is is just be disciplined. Stick on your message. I mean, that's what I say to clients when we're running campaigns is is stick on your yoga. Mat stay on your talk about what you wanna talk about talk about what the other guy wants to talk about because you're giving your message away. So be disciplined to your message talk about what you want in. This guy is this president has a very serious challenge. With regard to that Chuck Coughlin Republican strategists with high ground consultants. Thank you so much for your time this morning, it's a pleasure being here with both of you. A little bit of a shift gears did that mirror COPA mom. Adopt seven children. Did she abuse them? All just so that she'd have props for her YouTube channel, there's like a child labor law argument going on in here. We're gonna talk about that. After Sharon middleman gets us up to speed with our top stories..

"Skies and a low of forty eight in for tomorrow will be up around seventy seven degrees with a few clouds currently in Scottsdale at seventy five and weather's brought to you by Howard air, whether replace or repair, call Howard air, I'm Becky Lynn on Arizona's news station. KTAR news. Arizona's afternoon news with magin, Gaydos. A our news ninety two three FM. Mac and Gaydos on the program, minus MAC facts out. Loyd is in Bank. Oh, yes. Hello. What I deserve this punishment for punishment's punishment to be with you, rare treat. It's a rare treat I call it punishment. But you'll be here with me until six try to behave a little bit to what I can do coming up in ten minutes. John hook FOX ten but right now, isn't it interesting that after the midterm election, especially right here in Arizona. We have women holding more powerful positions here than ever. There was a staff that I was reading today. Arizona elected the most women's statewide since nineteen ninety eight one of those women is going to be the new era Zona secretary of state and she joins us right now here on KTAR, Katie Hobbs on the line with us. Arizona secretary of state elect it is Gaydos. It is Lloyd. How are you today? I'm great. How are you? We're doing good. So you know, I think this race not only your race but other races here in Arizona been interesting. You look at Kirstin cinema. A democrat a female wins you see Kathy Hoffman, a democrat a female wins. And now you Katie Hobbs. A democrat wins secretary of state. What do you think is behind that three women winning three big positions in in Arizona? Do you think it was a Trump backlash? What do you think? Well, I also wanna add Sandra Kennedy on the corporation commission as well. So very exciting. You know, I I don't I think I didn't focus on Trump in my campaign, I focused on the job of running our elections and being affected that doing that. And and I think you know, what I thought was a lot of voters talking to me about how they felt like I was the person to do the job. And I think you know, you thought the same thing someone Kathy Hoffman who's got experience as an educator. And of course, who has a strong record of getting things done for Zona. You know, what's interesting is that on election night. You lost the AP called the race for your your Republican opponent. So that's bizarre to me. Because so many votes had been counted. What were you thinking on election night? Did you think oh crap? I lost. You know, I was a little disappointed, but we knew that it was very early. For the AP to call the race. And that there were a number of outstanding knowledge, and certainly didn't know what was in those ballots, but knew that good majority FM more late early which had been trending towards democrat. And so we were optimistic and and and I'm pretty happy with outcome. Talking with Katie Hobbs, Arizona secretary of state elect, and I'll admit I know very little about what the secretary of state actually does. I know that you're next in line to be governor behind governor Ducey what else goes into the job of Arizona's secretary of state. The secretary of state is the chief election officer of the state, and so in that regard someone who's a leader in overseeing elections, and my focus in this whole campaign has been about making sure that every single eligible voter gets the chance to participate, and that's what I'm going to work to do in the office of these elections are killing me. I gotta tell you. You know, if we are they still counting. I think they're still counting votes. If you're going to oversee the elections how we speed up this process. Well, I'm not I'm not necessarily concerned about speeding up the process of Tony boats. I wanna make sure that every single voter has confidence that their vote is counted and the process that's still happening today is those those provisional ballots that we have to make sure that people that cast are eligible to cast them. And and I think that you know, to me an accurate result is more important than getting done, really south. How do we do both? Well, I think there's certainly some areas where we can modernize and work to streamline. So that these processes become smoother. I think what we saw in this election was really record turnout and that highlighted some areas that we need to to make improvements in in our in our processes, we're talking with Katie Hobbs. She won the secretary of state election. So so you gotta deal with Doocy. Oh. I have a great working relationship with the governor. And we're going to the other work well together or you're a democrat. He's a Republican going to work together. I think what the message that this election sense is that voters and our state want balance in government, and I think hopefully, the Republicans see this as no longer having mandate to push their agenda through but working with Democrats to get things done for for our state. And I think the governor and I have worked together well in the past and will continue to in the future. Do you have to meet every day with them and all that kind of stuff? No, I think you know, he's focused on the job of governor will be focused on the job of secretary of state. So you might not even see each other every day. Maybe in the elevator. How do you feel about the chance that you could become governor? Yeah. Well, I think that came up a lot on the campaign, and I'll tell you I spent the last eight years in the legislature. And I don't think there's any better arena to prepare for the office of governor, you're dealing with the pressing issues of our state water education health care. So I'm I'm ready to tackle those issues. If that comes up right now, I am focused on the job of secretary state. All right. Arizona secretary of state elect, Katie Hobbs. Thank you for joining us. Thanks for having me. Right. So I think I think one of the really interesting things of this election in Arizona. No question. There was a Blue Wave. There's no doubt about it. Pearson cinema is going to be a Senator Kathy Hawkins, the first democrat in a long time to be the head of education. And now we have a democratic secretary of state all like MAC and you were talking about for a long time zone. Assure looks purple sure does no question about it. Or thanks to Katie Hobbs who want a very tight race. With Steve Gaynor for secretary of state. All right coming up next. We'll Jeff flake challenged Donald Trump in twenty twenty. We have a definitive answer. It's exactly what I thought it would be. And we're gonna talk to John hook from FOX ten about that in just a second. But first, here's Becky Lynn on Arizona's.
