"It's <Speech_Music_Female> <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Female> a little nerve <Speech_Female> wracking. What I've <Speech_Music_Female> learned in close games <Speech_Music_Female> that <Speech_Music_Female> toss up, <Speech_Music_Female> I just close my notebook <Speech_Female> and I toss it on the table <Speech_Female> and I just watch. <Speech_Female> And I just make sure that <Speech_Female> I'm in the moment. <Speech_Music_Female> And then I <Speech_Female> sprint my butt off <Speech_Female> to go find out <Speech_Female> whatever coach. <Speech_Female> It's going to be <Speech_Female> and you wrangle <Speech_Female> them. And <SpeakerChange> then I just so <Speech_Male> in a game like that though, <Speech_Male> you think it's going <Speech_Male> overtime. Oh <Speech_Male> yeah. It doesn't. <Speech_Male> The game's <Speech_Male> over. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> The situational awareness <Speech_Male> of where <Speech_Male> are you and <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> it's not <Speech_Male> the easiest thing to <Speech_Male> navigate. You may have <Speech_Male> one security guy <Speech_Male> and sometimes <SpeakerChange> they're not <Speech_Male> even around. And sometimes <Speech_Female> they can't keep up, <Speech_Female> by the way. Right. <Speech_Female> I was standing <Speech_Female> right by <Speech_Female> Brian Kelly <Speech_Music_Female> and Brian pollan <Speech_Music_Female> as they <Speech_Music_Female> were making <Speech_Music_Female> that run down the field, <Speech_Music_Female> which was incredible. <Speech_Female> I think they had a minute left <Speech_Female> in 99 yards <Speech_Female> to go. And <Speech_Female> so I closed that <Speech_Female> because I had already created <Speech_Female> questions for Mike norvell, <Speech_Female> because I thought it was a done deal <Speech_Female> at that point. I <Speech_Female> didn't foresee a <Speech_Music_Female> pitch at the <Speech_Music_Female> goal line and then a fumble. <Speech_Female> And so I closed <Speech_Female> the notebook just to see if <Speech_Female> they could get it done. <Speech_Female> And once they <Speech_Female> marched down the field like <Speech_Female> that, in the way that they <Speech_Female> did, I thought, <Speech_Music_Female> absolutely, we're going to <Speech_Music_Female> overtime. And so I <Speech_Female> started to kind of thinking about <Speech_Female> wealth Brian Kelly. They had <Speech_Music_Female> all the momentum <Speech_Music_Female> at that point. <Speech_Female> Had they kicked that field goal, <Speech_Female> and then we go into overtime, <Speech_Female> and I thought, I <Speech_Music_Female> got to start thinking of <Speech_Female> ways to ask <Speech_Female> Brian Kelly about this <Speech_Female> epic comeback after <Speech_Female> what was a very sloppy <Speech_Female> performance from <Speech_Female> his teen <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Female> and then <Speech_Female> you have a second <Speech_Female> block field goal <Speech_Female> and obviously <Speech_Female> you just got to <Speech_Music_Female> adapt and adjust and just <Speech_Female> be in the moment. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> And <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> when <Speech_Male> you have a coach in <Speech_Male> that moment, <Speech_Male> is there a <Speech_Male> specific <Speech_Male> way to get to a quick <Speech_Male> question without <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> recapping everything <Speech_Male> that we've already <SpeakerChange> seen? I <Speech_Female> think it's best <Speech_Female> to ask them <Speech_Female> very short, open ended <Speech_Female> questions because they <Speech_Female> can take it wherever they <Speech_Female> want. I think sidelines <Speech_Music_Female> silent <Speech_Music_Female> reporters sometimes get in <Speech_Female> trouble by trying <Speech_Female> to talk too much. <Speech_Female> I think less is <Speech_Female> more. And so in <Speech_Female> that moment, Mike <Speech_Female> norvell, I thought <Speech_Female> he was going to cry, <Speech_Female> he was sighing, <Speech_Female> his hands were on his knees. <Speech_Female> There were all these emotions, <Speech_Female> and I think sometimes <Speech_Female> it just best to say, <Speech_Female> what are you feeling? <Speech_Female> What are you <SpeakerChange> thinking? <Speech_Female> Right. How's your heart rate? <Speech_Male> Just get them <Speech_Male> going. Yes. <Speech_Female> And then they can take it from <Speech_Male> there. I <SpeakerChange> want to see one <Speech_Male> kind of Joe Tessa <Speech_Male> tour do what you do <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> he would still be <Speech_Male> in <Speech_Male> the fourth <Speech_Male> minute of <SpeakerChange> the soliloquy. <Speech_Male> Yes. <Speech_Female> Or if he <Speech_Female> was short, he'd say, Brian. <Speech_Music_Female> Unbelievable <Speech_Music_Female> <Speech_Music_Female> comeback. <Speech_Music_Female> <Speech_Music_Female> Please <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Female> take us <Speech_Music_Female> through. <Speech_Music_Female> What your <Speech_Music_Female> feeling <Speech_Music_Female> inside? <Speech_Music_Female> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Katie George. <Speech_Male> I can't tell <Speech_Male> you how much we've enjoyed this. <Speech_Male> We talked <Speech_Male> to you all the time, but it's what <Speech_Male> usually you're in like a closet. <Speech_Male> So it's hard to it's <Speech_Male> great to see you in <Speech_Male> person. Fantastic. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> I'll never get over that joke <Speech_Male> test imitation. <Speech_Male> We're back. We have <Speech_Male> three more hours to go. We <Speech_Male> are live in Arlington. <Speech_Music_Male>

"And we say hello to you on this Friday afternoon. Welcome to the weekend and we are in Arlington Texas. Right across the street from Jerry's world. We're actually sitting in the beer garden. I think a globe life field. There we go. Rangers have the guardians tonight. And I'm next sitting next to Roman Harper as well as Roman, good afternoon. This is a neutral site game here in Texas. Yeah, that's what they tell us. It seems like it's very neutral to everybody right now. Behind us. Well, late arriving crowd, as they say. But we are glad to be here. Not exactly your normal college football Friday afternoon atmosphere, but this is the continuation of the long-standing Arkansas a and M game Jerry's world, of course, Jerry Jones. The famed Arkansas razorback former player we talked to Sam pippin yesterday about the significance of coming here and tomorrow we will hopefully see that significant. Yeah, I was wondering, how does this game end up in Arlington at Jerry world? I understand Jerry was a former Arkansas. Gary wanted it here. So he's saying, let's just get this game here. I would love to see it on a home and home field. But Jerry makes way more money than me and if he wants it here, then I guess they're going to. Yeah, I think we're coming to an end. I mean, this is 9 or ten years here. It's been a successful series, but I think everything is going to the campus in the future and really in present day. Roman, let's talk a little bit about this game. You got two ranked teams. Arkansas on the top ten a and M, they were number 6. Now they're 23 after the app state loss. They beat Miami, what are we to make out of the aggies? Well, Arkansas is a more consistent team. You know exactly who they are understand Pittman, what they're trying to do offensively. I think defensively, they're missing some key pieces. And they've struggled at time in the secondary this year, but up front, they've got some really some really good players and they're playing well for them right now. Texas a and M on the other hand, I think defensively, their lights out. They have athleticism to have speed. They have size. They love to play man to man coverage. They pressure the quarterback, where they do that without having to blitz a lot as well. So they know who they are defensively, offensively. That's where my biggest concern is for Texas a and M. I know they made the change at quarterback and inserting max Johnson against Miami. But I don't think it didn't wow me. You know, he was consistent. He got the ball out of his hands. But he didn't make anything crazy. It's not like the offense, so all of a sudden became this out of character person or anything. They were exactly who they were before. Texanum has to step it up on the outside. The wide receivers got to learn how to catch the ball in traffic. They got to be able to continue to block better in the run game. If they want to be explosive against this Arkansas team, they got to find ways to get chunk plays in the pass game. As far as Arkansas, I mean, I think we could dismiss the Missouri state game. They were coming off of a couple of really big games in a row, but what is their ceiling? What does this team capable of? They can 9 ten whims easily for this team. I really like the play of the quarterback. I think Raheem rocket Sanders is really the unsung hero for this team. He's been my MVP for this Arkansas team undoubtedly, so all he does is make every big play whenever they need it the most on offense. He's explosive in the run game. They use them in the past game as well. He's their best player on offense for me so far this year. And because of him, they won that game against Missouri state last week, and a tough battle, which nobody thought it was going to be a tough game. But Arkansas, they didn't show up to play early in that game enough mentality wise, they had some uncharacteristic drops. They gave up some stuff on the defensive side of the ball, but then they all of a sudden they woke up and they said, all right, we need to really go and play this game, then they went out and dominated and got some stops like they needed to in the end. Let me flip her into a couple of other games. Tennessee hosting Florida, it feels epic, although I got to ask you one question, Paul. Before we go to Tennessee, Florida. What do we all think of Texas a and M? Where are they at? You know, they make the quarterback switch. They win one game against Miami. Is it all fixed? 'cause I, we don't know. I don't think it is. I think these problems will continue to rise up until they get the offensive line in the wide receivers catching the football on the consistent basis. Well, they've got a three game stretch. That will determine everything. If they can handle Arkansas state before they get to Alabama, they'll be most of the same enthusiasm, but if they drop one or both of these games at cars on the side of the road. Okay. All right. Well, so they got to win against Arkansas. There's any question. You can't have two losses.

"Let me interrupt. I apologize for that, but we've been waiting for coach kiffin to get here and he has now arrived. Coach lane kiffin joining us here and. I know you've been in meetings. I hope good works being done. Yeah, we had practice this morning. Just did some other media stuff. So here with you, Paul. I know, quarterback injuries are always a conversation of the week. Your old friend at ozone doubting you somewhat in terms of your description of Matt carrell. It's Friday, the game is 24 hours off. What is the status? Well, we're hopefully placed just like all of our players that are injured. So, you know, if he doesn't, we'll be ready and have a good plan for him not playing and you know, make the most of this great atmosphere we're gonna have and find a way to win. Is the expectation that he will play? I mean, I always expect our injury guys to play, but we definitely have a plan without them and Luke alt Meyer has done some really good things this week in practice and is ready to go. Speaking of coaches, everyone who knows you and knows him knows the history with you, he was your assistant. You've been close friends. There was even pretty serious talk of at one time you going to work with him. What was your reaction or is your reaction to what happened to him the other day in terms of them, letting him go at the end of the season? Well, it's unfortunate. It's the business that we're in. Now more than ever, you know, it's not what have you done a few years ago. It's what are you last week? And so, you know, Ed has done a great job. I love Ed. You know, known him since I was 23 coach at USC and taught me a ton and recruiting passion for coaching and is a phenomenal coach and has done a great job with a lot of players for a long time. I believe I read this week somewhere that you had agreed or he was maybe not agreed, but he was trying to get the job at LSU and using you as part of his presentation to his former boss, Joe will leave it that you were going to come on board. Now for those who don't remember, you were in Alabama at the time. What you didn't really put that in question form. Well, I was just trying to I was trying to I was trying to mention whether you were, I will put in a question. Where are you going to go there if you had not gotten in Florida Atlantic job? There were definite conversations about it. Is this jeopardy, by the way? I don't know. $200 $200 for a? 16.9 million. Yeah. So we had discussions about it. And then the job came and great opportunity there. And so you know it is what it is, but I would love working for Ed, because I love his passion and if you go to work for him as a coordinator, you know this, you're going to get great players because he's going to recruit great players and give them to you to figure out how to use them. I talked to you a couple of weeks ago and your name was popping up for various jobs out west at USC, your name is in the media reports. It was like, I know that's an awkward question to ask you on this campus. Considering that you have a game tomorrow against that school, but how have you been addressing media speculation about your future? Yeah, I don't. You know, our players, you know, know that, you know, when they play well, things come. And so we're very happy where we're at, we're excited about what's going on. There's a ton of energy around the program in recruiting. Just got asked in another interview about recruiting we're literally getting guys that weren't answering the phone. You know, early in the year calling us. Asking them to come visit old miss because they just love seeing the passion the energy of how our players play in our sidelines. And it's a cool place to be in a cool team to be on. Let's talk about that for a second coach because it's at a really good point right now, but you have dealt with some of the best players anywhere anytime at SC and other jobs, of course at Alabama. You've got good players here. Obviously, Matt carrell is arguably the best player in the country right now. How do you continue to bring those type of players here? Well, you play really well, first off and something that when they watch it, they say hey, that's what I want to be a part of. And we are hearing that a lot from recruits from the families that, you know, when they watch and say, hey, that's an energetic team. That's a team that has fun plays really well and coaches the players really well. You know, and develop them for the next level. So we're sitting here in the SEC west, which they know they're going to play in the best division in football and have to do it every week. Let's talk about Matt carrel, because as of this moment, he stole the Heisman favorite. I know that is not anything you can control or he can control. But it is unique to have that type of publicity coming to this campus. First of all, I don't realize you don't vote, but you could influence people who do but what would your argument be to those of us who do, who would say to you coach, describe his ability and how do you compare and contrast that with everyone else? Well, we got a long ways to go on the season, just like I tell our team, you know, rankings don't mean anything until the final one. You know? And so FrontRunner for Heisman and you know, after 6 weeks, you know, it doesn't mean anything. But you know, if I was looking at it, I would say, okay, hey, this guy has had injuries all over the place. You know, playing with it without two of his top three receivers without the two top tight ends from week one running around having to make plays 200 yards rushing in the SEC that didn't happen very often. So it's not like he's just sitting back there with 5 star players all around and everybody wide open. So Matt has done an unbelievable job and the way he played last week and you know, this has nothing to do with voting, but if you're around this kid, he is a special person, kid leader. I just love being around him. Coach, I know that players, it's somewhat taboo to ask a player to go back as we're getting ready for the next week's game. But as you know, or maybe you don't know because you've been preparing for LSU, the conversation at least on programs like this continues to be about Saturday night at neiland stadium and can you just describe what that experience was like? You know, there was no prep for that. I don't know if that had happened before, you know, it's kind of like the Roman coliseum movie, you know, where everybody turns on you. And Matt joke, he's like Matt's like I felt like, you know, like in Gladiator when they do the thumbs down, you know what he was everyone was cheering when he was hurt. So as you know, going there, it's passionate fans there. And you know, I kind of had a God moment. You know, when all that was going on, walking off the field and throwing stuff and yelling all this stuff, you know, just, you know, show love back, you know, and you know small and what kindness or whatever it is. So they're just passionate and it was just a rare situation. And again, that was a small percentage of the Tennessee fans. So by no means was that everybody in the stadium at all. They're awesome passionate fans and that place was rocking from the beginning from warm ups. We don't have enough time to get into officials calls and reviews because that's for another part. But I wonder, though, and I haven't seen anything quite like that, but is there a better way than we currently have to deal with calls, whether they're right or wrong and anyone's mind they do tend to ignite a crowd as we saw Saturday night. Well, I don't know how you would do it different from an official standpoint or any of that. You know, I was like, kind of thinking as I was going on, do I remember anything like this? And I remember, I think it was like a browns game. You know, I think they were like helping the refs when they were running off the field through the tunnel. And that's kind of like what I felt like in that situation. Were you were you ever I mean, you were hit, obviously, everybody was hit by something. What were you hit by? Anyway, it was not that big a deal. I mean, there were bottles, whatever. A golf ball that I still have. The golf ball did nicu. Yeah, like,.

"And lane kiffin joining us shortly right now Katie George joining us of course on the call for the Tennessee Alabama. Katie, great to talk to you again. So I think I've asked you a few times this year about quarterback situations. We all want to know about hooker. What's his status? Well, your guess is as good as mine at this point. We haven't had our conversations with Tennessee's coaches and Josh hypo yet they're arriving in Tuscaloosa around 6 p.m. Eastern Time. So then we're hoping that he'll hedge a little bit and give the broadcast crew an idea as to where hindon is at if he was, in fact, able to go through practice this week, you know, obviously we saw Joe Milton at the end of the old miss game, but, you know, we just wrapped up our meetings with Nick Saban and Alabama's coordinators. And echoed the same sentiment we just heard from his Monday press or that, you know, they're both similar and what they are capable of doing. They're both big physical runners. So you have to watch there. Obviously, Tennessee runs the football really well. I'm in both have strong arms that can beat you downfield. So doesn't necessarily change the way that Alabama is coming into this game from a defensive standpoint, but certainly changes. I think what we'll see from Tennessee. So I'll be very curious to see what John hypo has to say here in a couple hours. Katie, on the Alabama front, give us a sense of what you learn from those coaches. I know it may not be a whole lot different than what Sabin said earlier, but it's almost as if he was trying to sell this game to the fan base in terms of how good Tennessee is. What a great job. Hypo has done all those things are accurate. But they're still quite a spread. At least in terms of the public perception in Vegas's perception between these two schools. Yeah, there is. And I actually had a chance to join him on his radio show last night at a local restaurant here in Tuscaloosa where he was saying to the fans, look, it's homecoming. We haven't been home in a really long time, right? It feels like a long time after going to College Station and start fill. So he said, you know, we want to warm welcome from our fan base and then we have a biweek next week. So this is your chance, you know, to come and create an unbelievable atmosphere for us. And you know, actually have an impact in the game on that fast tempo offense at Tennessee likes to run, but you know, practice yesterday, he kind of wrapped it up with a message to his group of look, you know, your identity is not created in one game. You played a complete performance against Mississippi state a week ago, but can you do it again? Can you put together back to back performances? Can you be mature enough to have that consistency that we need if we want to be a special team? So that's the charge to this Alabama team is can you go out and do it again for all four quarters? Katie George joining us from Tuscaloosa Katie, thank you very, very much. We really appreciate it. We'll be watching tomorrow night. Of course..

"Laying out breadcrumbs back 11 years to the cost and excuse for the fan insurrection, so to speak, it was just off the charts. Please tell me you were joking when you said you're going to have them on for three hours next week. Yes. I mean, you have to remember. I'm entertained by him because I know how I'm not an actor, but I did a play once, many, many years ago and I know how long it takes to memorize your lines to get the staging right, the movement right. And so I admire the art of my Griffith. I really do. These outrageous, but this will probably be an interesting game in the fact that Coachella will try and look like he's coaching well, kippen will be coaching for the other guy's job. Yeah, I don't know if that's exactly what's going to happen. But lane kiffin's name has certainly been mentioned in association with that position. Hey, thanks for the call, John. Great to hear from you. Matt is up next. Well, you got map. It was a fun moment. We are doing well. I want to tell you about Texan in football. I believe they're going to win the rest of their games. Paul and go ten and two this year. They want to put a whoopin on LSU and old miss in auburn. But I wanted to I want to ask you a question. Who do you think going to hire? She's going to hire her coach. She thinks Milan kiffen or you think it's going to be that guy from Michigan. State. You know, I really don't. I'm not sure. And I think lane's name is certainly been mentioned quite often. And he is a very hot coach hey. Thanks for the call Matt. Speaking of lane kiffin, we'll talk to him in a couple of minutes. He will join us live on the site a number of other guests as well as we have mentioned. We are live in Oxford, Mississippi at the grove and lane kiffin joining us shortly. We're back after this. "Was before anything was on television. And that would have been 1950s. Kentucky has had some teams in the late 70s that were really elite. They've had one great year with J claiborne, what 84? But I mean, I just don't remember and, you know, I'll be in full disclosure. This is not a great weekend in college football. But it's still a one versus 11 matchup. Yeah. That's worth paying attention. And honestly, I think Kentucky because her when they're talking about because you schedule a home come a weekend, whatever. I think they're 11 because they're Kentucky. Yeah. I think if they weren't Kentucky, they would be 7 or 8. But they hire. But because they're Kentucky, and there's always that. It's not fair. I mean, think about it. They beaten LA shoe in Florida. That should get you like fourth in the country. And in a normal year, and you're 6 O and a year where everyone in the top ten is losing games. Everyone in the top 20 files losing games. But there's still that. This should be one versus 5. Yeah, I'm all for that. So to answer your question, when was the last time they played in the biggest game of the weekend? The answer is never. Yeah. Certainly not in the television era. I'm going to call coach Bryant's son and ask him if he remembers. What happened in the 30s? Yeah. Because there was the beat Oklahoma, it was a historian. Imagine though for a second, so Bear Bryant is coaching at Kentucky. If you want more, go to the library. He defeats Oklahoma. Can we just keep talking about this during the break? Do we decimal system?.

"Live in Athens on an absolutely gorgeous Friday afternoon homecoming here. At UGA, we talked a lot with Tim Tebow about what happens next for the university of Alabama. And that's exactly what we are going to try to figure out Katie George. Joining us on the call for the Alabama Mississippi, Katie, I don't I know it's never all that challenging to come up with a great storyline for big SEC games or any other kind of games on Saturday, but this one seems like it may be easier than the normal. Good afternoon and how's everything going? Things are good, Paul good to be with you. I've got more concrete information than the last time I drew. For embrace young and Will Rogers will both be the starters for Alabama Mississippi state, but to your point, the storylines are pretty easy for this one. It's a bounce back game for Alabama, from everything that I've heard and the players that I've talked to from Bryce young, you know, to others, they feel good about where they're at the work that they put in in terms of responding. Certainly the feeling in the locker room on Saturday was bleak. You know, I had people tell me they lost their appetite. Jordan battle said, he lost sleep for a couple days, but you had to turn the page and refocus. And Nick Saban's message to them on Wednesday night after practice was look, one lost does not define you. Remember how you felt, allow that to motivate you moving forward into the season? And let's go finish what we started here. Our goals are still very attainable. Now, they got to come out and write the wrong against Mississippi Saturday night. Yeah. And Katie, we both were trying to figure out, I think it was a couple of weeks ago. I think I can't remember, was it was a coach? Oh, that was not telling us. For the auburn gave yeah. It worked out for them, didn't it? It did holding it close to the vest as long as they did. Well, Katie, Katie, let me ask you about my colleague because naturally everything has been obsessive about Alabama this week, but he is a coach that has done extraordinarily well in big moments. He beats the number one team in the country at Texas tech he had great success in spots at Washington state. What are you learning from him this week? Well, I think that they're excited for the challenge. They feel like they were a couple plays away from possibly being 5 O, but they can't think about that now. Obviously, they're really excited for Bama to come to town and I thought it was interesting from the different players and Mike leach, you know, the conversations we had was just because we beat Texas a and M and then Texas a and M went and the Bama, you know, that has no bearing on what's going to happen Saturday night. That's a trap mindset to get into. They just hope that hate is air raid offense, where's on the front 7 on the defensive side, as well as the secondary Alabama as good as they are in as good as their players are. They're not used to seeing this many passes over and over and over again. And will Rodgers has had a really good season. I don't know if he gets necessarily the credit that he deserves or is big a name right now because he's a sophomore, but he's done some great things. He's improved a great amount. You know, he started 6 games last season, that really got his feet wet, and then he carried over getting to have a spring season and a summer season with his teammates in the coaching staff. Unlike a season ago with COVID-19, you know, he put in a great work and you know, they feel confident going into this game, but obviously they're respectful of their opponent. And they know that fam is going to come to town. Obviously, looking for revenge after what happened in College Station. Hey, let me ask you about a part of this game that we haven't really talked much about or at all. And that's the defensive side of mister B state. A lot of the analysts really are high on them. We saw what they did a week and a half ago in almost two weeks ago in Kyle feel. What are you hearing from that side of the ball? They're really excited to showcase their talents. You know, so often when you face Alabama, the conversation stands that way, right? Because they're usually one of the top, if not, the number one team in the country. Well, these are guys who feel like they can hang with the offense. That is still trying to find their identity, right? I think we can all agree that Alabama is still trying to figure out exactly who they are on the offensive side. You know, Emmanuel Forbes, Martin Emerson, these are two safety cornerbacks and secondary members that are best friends and they're really good and talented at what they do. They think they can cover every single wide receiver that Alabama is going to trot out there. So I think that these guys, obviously, feel good about where they're at as a team. But there's that competitive edge of, hey, I want to go between those lines and I want to show that I'm just as good as these guys. I might not have been recruited to that place, but I feel good about my talents and I can measure up against anyone. Katie George be part of the call tomorrow night in store for Katie, always great to have you on. Thank you so much for the time. Me too. Thanks, have a great day. You bet Katie George and starkville. And let's get to some college here before we continue with the guest fest. How about JD up next? Hello, JD. Hey, Paul. How are you doing? We're doing well. Thanks so much for the call. Hey, I know a lot of benefits and they are saying how albums done and they're not going to make the play off and all that. But Paul, do they really need to panic?.

Talking to Tim Tebow, Tim, we talked a lot over these four or 5 weeks about Texas a and M quarterback situation. And I know you're the right guy to ask how a player who has struggled can suddenly be lifted up and played the game of his life, but how did that come out? I think first of all, it starts with Jimbo Fisher having a really good game plan. And I think a good thing or a bad thing, depending how you look at it. I think they were preparing for Alabama for an entire year. And I really do think that they didn't probably put in the same focus against Mississippi state. And against Arkansas that they did against Alabama, but I think when you talk about Zach calzada, the difference from Arkansas, mister B state to Alabama, just I mean it's crazy. He's a completely different player. And I give Jimbo a lot of credit, I think he supported him enough through the week where he was able to play with confidence. And I think the first drive of the game changed the whole game. When he was able to drive down, score a touchdown against Bama, I think there's something that clicked in him that said I can do this. And for the rest of the game, for the most part, he was very efficient. And I also think the way that Jimbo design plays, you didn't see him necessarily going one, two, three, four. You would see him kind of go to a side. It would be one to two and getting rid of the ball. And I think the offense created a lot of confidence. I think success early created a lot of confidence and you could see what Jimbo's been talking about. He has talent, but the rest of the piece is just weren't around him, and he didn't necessarily have it in him before that. I think with confidence, but you could see the confidence build throughout the game and confidence changes any player. And it seems like everyone fed off of that because you have an offensive line that has some really good players, but all of a sudden they were playing at a level that I haven't seen them play. Oh, there were so much better than against Mississippi state in Arkansas. The offensive line was being able to pick up blitzes was working together. And did a really good job. There was not a lot of pressure on Zack, the entire night. And I think that also tells me that I think there was just more effort, more critical thinking, more focus put in by a and M into that game. And I also think it helps they were at home. I think they've been preparing for it for a long time. I think Jimbo knows how to coach in some of those big games. And I actually think I trust zimbo more and some of the biggest games than some of the ones that he's probably supposed to win. And you know, so when you really look at it, you want to give a and M a lot of credit, but I think it was also shocking how they were able to turn it so drastically in a week. Well, I've sat with you countless weeks and you've talked about I remember a couple weeks ago a game that they lost and before the game, you said, I think Jimbo will do. And of course I'm an apology down the road. It's a it didn't happen, but it did happen this time because he is that good. Conversely, let me ask you about Alabama. You didn't come off of many losses in your career in college and neither has Alabama. They usually come back really well. They will. I think I don't think it really changes much for college football. I really don't. I think it changes a lot for a and M, I think Alabama still besides these guys, I think Alabama still the best team if not the second best team in college football behind Georgia. I mean, you're going to tell me that teams in front of them. Iowa Cincinnati or Oklahoma is better than Alabama. We all know if they played on a neutral field. They're just not going to beat them. And they're not as good. And I think Alabama will show up. They have too many playmakers. It was a perfect storm at a hostile environment where most of the plays went a and M's way. And everything went against Bama. And I also think they just showed up and kind of thought you know what? They say an empty just got killed by Mississippi they're not that good. And that affects especially 18 to 22 year olds. It absolutely can change the things. I mean, you know, I know in my own career when we didn't show up with the same focus, but then you would go to a Death Valley and you knew, hey, we got to be prepared. And it's different. And so I think for Alabama, you're going to see, I think they awoke a sleeping giant. Tim Tebow, we appreciate, as always, you're coming by on Friday. Thanks so much, Dan. Of course, Betty. Great conversation. We are back. We're live. It's a year of university of Georgia. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. We welcome you back. "They have not scored well. The opponents have and the tigers can't do anything to find a victory down in baton rouge speaking of that game. We can't wait to welcome. Katie george to the program. She's covering auburn and lsu katie. Thanks so many storylines as we say what you. Let's start with. Who's going to be quarterback for over. Let's get to be with you. Your guess is as good as mine at this point. I actually just spoke with bonex and tj finley yesterday afternoon and at that point neither one of them had been told who was going to be the starter so hartson is obviously holding out. It was a competition where both guys split reps and practice this week. They went fifty fifty with the ones and the twos. But i gotta tell you just my gut reaction and talking to both of them. Tj finley sounded. Really excited and i don't know if that was because he's getting to play in front of twenty four fans and friends of his that are coming to the game. It'll be a return for him in death valley at tiger stadium while bo didn't sound dejected. Necessarily he sounded hungary but definitely not as excited because he obviously had a dose of reality a week ago. And i love with mike. Bobo told him on sunday he said look. This is some adversity that you're facing how you respond is going to find your college career. And they've been really happy with the way. That bo has tackled his work. He's really focused on his foot. Work setting his feet. You know paul better than anybody that when you're not setting your feet and your your foot works all over the place it leads to inaccuracies which we saw on saturday. So it'll be really interesting to see who starts but coach arsene details on wednesday night. We should expect to see both quarterbacks at some point during this game katie. Not to get behind the curtain. But but i am curious when when you do a game like this coaching staffs often will will perhaps say something to you and the crew doing the game that maybe they will not say publicly. I'm not. I'm just bringing this out but at this moment nobody really knows is. I know you've already answered the question. But will they give you a heads up at some point or you just don't know we will know as soon as we see which quarterback in number running out onto the field and go. Charleston was really honest and open about a variety of topics with us. And you decide to our crew. Greg mcelroy was asking the tough questions so as john doe tar and he basically said you know. We don't know at this point. That was as wednesday night when we spoke to him on our call thursday afternoon around one. Pm eastern when. I spoke with both quarterbacks on the phone separately and neither of them had been told at that point they were going into meetings so maybe it was announced to the team. Who's going to start then. There's the afternoon but to schools a thought here. Paul do you wait and make the announcement late in the weeks. Keep both quarterbacks dial then locked in their preparation physically and mentally or is it better to tell the guy who it's going to be at the very beginning so he gets all the one reps and can start building that confidence for game time so it seems like harrison. Pick up the first choice here. And we'll see how it works out for these two quarterbacks again i'm just i'm just a talk show host katie but it almost seems like in. I'm curious what you think that. Maybe there isn't going to be a big change for the start And the game plan is already in that. It's a similar game plan that they've been employing our or brian. Hartson has every intention of letting knicks player a series or two and see what happens and then bring in finley i. I know that we're talking about the same thing in fifteen different ways but it just so intriguing. They really don't know. How extraordinary is that based on your past and dealing with coaches on a weekly basis. Yeah it's pretty strange. It's funny we've we've dealt with a lot of teams as a crew has had two quarterbacks at play so far this season so it feels like we're just re racking each week i feel like you would wanna know who's going to be the guy earlier in the week even as a teammate. Right so you can mentally prepare and you can start visualizing what things are going to look like in such a big game. These two teams have a lot on the line. Even though one is only ranked i mean you know the blood and the tiger rivalry between these two. I think we'll see both. I think they'll start. Bow that's what my gut tells me. But if tj finley runs out there i would not be surprised in the slightest or we could see him pretty soon so if he starts with the on a tight leash i i think you're right about What you said just seems like the signs reporting story both starting and maybe not playing very long depending on how he played katie. Thank you. I do apologize for asking you the same question. Fifteen different ways but it. But it is the story of this game in a lot of people's minds. And and i know you'll be talking about with joe and greg tomorrow night. Thanks so much. As far as you got it Katie joining us from baton rouge It is a big story to say. The least and i just wafting through the air is what you said. The knicks may start and see how he goes. Let's get back to the calls here at eight five to four to seven to eight. Five zack is up next. Hazak call ban on the show. Thank you how do you think the absence of olongapo tigers deep into our affect the game. In any way. I think i think everything Could be a factor when you're when you're talking about a game like this. I mean this is incredibly challenging game for auburn and it's the fact that anyone is missing is critical. Hey thanks for the call. Appreciate it very much policy in charlotte. Paul go right ahead. Yeah pause curious. Look if you have a chance to pull up the arkansas schedule. Who else besides the name of georgia or alabama maybe oregon. Who else would have conquered the schedule. Better than arkansas. Well with third year in a row right. yeah. I mean we're what we're talking about is essentially beating texas and texas. I don't mean to disparage the job. San pittman has done. I'm not. I think everybody knows how big a fan we all are. But i don't think beating texas at home and beating in arlington is is something that a lot of schools couldn't have done quite. Frankly no look the looking forward. You look at that schedule. That arkansas keeps getting we. Don't get the vanderbilts in the tennessee's in the miss mississippi state we do but we're not getting that schedule year over year and that's a beating your your crossovers this year georgia and missouri. That's bad that's bad law to draw last year. Florida wasn't it. Yeah you could not have drawn a worse matchup this year then being at georgia. You're if you're looking in the sec. West that's the toughest game you can draw if you're in the sec. The toughest game you can draw is that alabama. It's really that simple. Hey thank you so much for the call. let's check in with julian who is in montgomery alabama. Hello doing bolt. We're doing well so well. Georgia fan Those dogs they just want to say that with the way football is i won't say down but we to be another year that to Undefeated teams make to lambeth these. There were two playoff. be in georgia alabama. They run the joy. And i think right now. That would be what i would say is well. Hey thank you Eastern is up next..

"A sound that shakes ground for miles and miles around. And that's exactly when struck show. Prepare to take cover. So there's plenty of the on the line Interesting fantastic matchup. Here offense defense To grade defenses. But which offense is going to show up. That is going to be the question. And that's had this game will be outlined is listen arkansas. Has i mean. There's nothing exhibit arkansas rather than They've been phenomenal. But can they produce enough offense against an elite defense. Maybe the best in the country. Those are two games. There's a game that. I don't know why nobody's talking about. But we are going to. Florida at kentucky. Look how close these games have been two years ago. Gators were done. And then the leaping. Frank scott hurt four years ago. It was that narrow always close in lexington. The cats have one win in modern time. They need another one if they want to continue their quest to get to atlanta for the first time under mark stoops roman harper. He'll be here shortly. It's a homecoming for roman. He played it. Alabama chris fowler joining us from athens. Katie george on the call for auburn in lsu. That is late tomorrow night. Tebow will be here in about an hour. Chris boden who's far the lsu mississippi state hold on. I don't think that game is that game was last week. Mississippi state. am is the game and mark. smith will join us. Greg burn the athletic director. Chris during will wrap up the night. We will get to your phone calls now. Eight five five two four two seven two eight five won't fridays are always fairly heavily traffic. But we'll try to get as many call in here as possible. Let's start with tyler. Who is from alabama up in florence. Good afternoon hey paul. I wanted to talk about the auburn quarterback situation between tj family and go Kind of thing started. Knicks has been a disappointment basin and every season. He's been there. I think he's extremely deserves the start and i hope we get to see him start. Yeah brian hartson hasn't said that there's all kinds of speculation that he wants to go again with bonex. I i'm just a shock. Shaw here all kidding aside. I don't know how you can't start. Tj finley to me. That would send a terrible message to your team. He went out there the other day. He earned it and you know if arson continues to start bo knicks. That's his business. But i just think that finley has deserved it He's deserved the start. The starting job. And i hope he gets it. Hey thanks for the call. Do appreciate it very very much. A brody is in alabama to. Hey brody go right ahead. Go paul longtime listener. Collared get I was calling in about the album. Omits game i personally feel like ole miss and gonna come into alabama and Shocked world. I really do i You know stagnant twenty-three no against former assistant. But i feel that may change more. You know. I mean the alabama defense has. It looked the greatest i mean. Yeah i mean. They have played many april but looking back with lord game. I mean florida gash them most of the game. I mean you know. Just put up for thirty nine yards on them. Abbott six and a half yards of play. And i just feel like honestly with line kissing. I mean lang- kipp lamont pinions. One of the greatest often could minds this generation. Black is gonna come in with a good game plan. And i mean i commend offense. It's you that you know. And i mean. Brass young may go after and put up points. Mackrell me you can't put it past me personally. I feel like they're gonna come out of brighton any stadium with a win the more. Well listen if that happens it will shock a lot of people and i. It will resonate because It will change the dynamics of the sec. Hey thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. We'll talk to roman harper about that in a minute. there'd be. We begin our guest list momentarily. We are live from the university of alabama. You're listening to the paul finebaum. Show podcast gridiron. Guests brought to you by johnson bill. And it's always one of my favorite moments of the week. We just got through watching lane kiffin from wednesday when roman harper and roman harper who played at the university of alabama. There remember. they do just a little bit played on three national championship teams. The paul finebaum show. You can literally say whatever you want better. But it's not like anyone's say no. We didn't because everybody else did they. They assume that if you've played it alabama you want to champion. I was here before the glory days. I was here doing a little bit of the dark period but myself personally. At great career i was able to make the one play versus tennessee. While not the fumble out that they kind of like honor me and remember forever so remember because of that. We tend to see graduates. Remember it well amid a random guy a couple of weeks ago and he was telling me about as steve smith's charity veneta top golf event in charlotte and he was telling me about him being at that game and that tennessee game. It was a long time ago. He was explaining he was going down. he said. And this guy. The tennessee fullback. He's a really big guy and he bumble right. Before he goes into the goal line it was the most heartbreaking. And i just kind of sat back and i didn't say anything i was like you know what i remember that game. And he's like you remember that i'm like yes. You look silly to deteriorate. That was meeting the no. It wasn't that did want to bring that out at barely before the person to other person that was there. I told that person in their ear. Before i walked through a guy that hit him. You listen to what. George roger we learned this last week. George rogers walks around carrying his high. I saw that Another funny story is mark. Ingram our first heisman winner here at the university alabama. His mom had his heisman. Trophy has had his tribes and trophy at the house and she ordered some pizza one night and they deliver the pizza at the house and it was just on the kitchen table and do is that. Is that a heisman. Trophy on your kitchen table. Oh yeah my son. He wanted a couple of years ago. So just no end up ken right man they end up in the most random places and yes. You can't carry this trophy around. If i ever win anything i'm carrying it around. Let's let's talk about this game tomorrow because everyone's trying to come up with a reason. Why lane kiffin. he's playing. We'll pull the upset If if we were sitting around here tomorrow afternoon at six o'clock and nick saban has lost a lane kiffin. what would the reason be alabama. Turn the football over it were. They had empty possessions. Offensively and for me big picture. Weiser's going straight up with paul. This is going to be a possession. Game is many possessions that you create your own offense whether it's ole miss or alabama by either making them turn the football over or creating points and getting off the field on third down. That would be the team that win. This is going to be a high scoring event. You don't plan on staying. We don't go in this game saying guys we're going to shut this team out. We're going to only let them get this many points. No it's how much. How many more times than i get. Our offense the ball back on the field whether you'd rather give up a one play eighty yard drive to ole miss versus giving up a ten or twelve. Play drive with now. You're a little bit more tired. They beat you with temple. And some other things you rather. Just give up the touchdown because the main goal at the end of the day is always get your offense back on the field talking to roman harper roman. I guess it was three weeks ago tomorrow. I finally jumped on the sam pittman train..

"The least the the alliance right or the the illusion of the alliance. You and i talked about a little bit on sunday. you know. what did you make of that. And how how much do you think if any or none at all. It changes college. Athletics versus the sec. I don't think it necessarily changes anything at. Its core right now. The word that struck me over and over again that the three commissioners used on tuesday with stability. And we've seen some seismic shifts in college football and college athletics in general right when and i al happening in july obviously the twelve team playoff proposal that came down and then the irrelevance of the aa a. And are they going to be able to restructure themselves to be relevant and continue governing college athletics. There's a lot of things happening in college athletics. And it felt like these three got together and said hey. We're like minded. We think the same way if i have your back. You have my back. So when we go to the table in september to discuss playoff expansion and then we go to the table again in november to discuss the nc double as reconstruction. Let's be on the same side because we think alike so that we can kind of have a foot hole and helped make some of the decisions that will shape the future of not only college football but college athletics in general so it felt like these three were saying we're going to ban together because we want to keep things as similar to what they are right now. In college sports they feel felt to have a conservative approach right because they like the way things are right now to degree. I think that they tried to grab a little bit of the power in this power vacuum right now and they're trying to stand strong as the sec continues to make big time moves. Yeah i mean basically. They're asking each one of the real other alliance conference commissioners kind of like a cease-fire right like hey just don't steal anybody else like every time. There is one part of expansion. There's more teams that expand. That's kind of what they're doing. Now right yeah exactly. It was mike quote. I think from jim phillips was we don't want to have a knee jerk reaction right. We saw that in two thousand eleven two thousand twelve thirteen. I was actually a direct product. And i was impacted directly by the dominoes. That fell in conference realignment. When i went to the university of global i played my first season in the big east my second season in the american which was like this holding pattern and then my third season as junior was in the atlantic coast conference three seasons three different conferences. Everybody felt like it was an arms race back then when those dominos started to fall and for me watching that press conference it felt like these three commissioners are saying. Hey let's take a step back. Let's not make any rash decisions right. Now let's just hold tight evaluate the situation and then we can make changes as we see fit but we need to gather more information now. It's also important to point out. How pete and i know you and i have had. This conversation is that they had a similar conversation almost a year ago about cove in nineteen and what they were going to do. Moving forward into the twenty twenty season. They all looked each other in the eye. And they're on the same page about holding tight waiting one more month to see where we were with cove nineteen and then kevin warren paul. A press conference and said myocarditis is a real thing. And we're not gonna play. This fall hopefully weren't in a better place in terms of trust levels and the ideologies and the values that these men have but the fact that there was no sign contract. I'm just hopeful that they keep their word. I mean again even going back further than that. Remember katie that all the conferences were working together closely during the pandemic and they said all right well about scheduling wait. They have a conference call. They hang up later that afternoon. Kevin warren decides all by himself and stunned. Everybody else going. Oh the big ten conference only like so again. there's there's some definite entrust issues there with the promise ring for the alliance last thing. You said your louisville girl so if you were to adopt an sec team. I'm gonna make you do this. Which one of the sec teams would you adopt here in this fine conference. Spotlight picking kentucky. Because i can't imagine you can't. I can't historian like to my core to my core. Yeah i don't think i could do that. Although i have the greatest respect for kentucky's athletic program i've had four cousins. Go to auburn. They all rave about it absolutely love their time down there. I think that that would be an easy. One for media. Adopt go tigers there. You go war. Damn eagle katie. Jordan brand new biggest. Sec fan that's out. I didn't quite realize didn't know that's all right will You'll you'll be at the wedding later this year. You'll buy me a drink at your wedding will be in good shape all right. Let's talk about the football this upcoming season. Obviously you're going to be week. One with joe tests and greg mcelroy and getting ready to go for the season like how is this year you feel going to be different covering the games and it wasn't twenty twenty. Gosh just from an excitement standpoint having fan back in the stands is going to be so nice as a sideline reporter you feed off of that energy so much like the players on the field and it was eerie a season ago going to different stadiums having maybe two hundred three hundred fans in the stands a thousand at most I'm excited to see the fans back in rooting for their teams And to feel the real pageantry right and the passion for the sport like you said. I'm working with greg and task for week. One down in tallahassee. I'm so excited to be back with those guys. I worked with him one time. It actually was in tallahassee. A season ago win. Florida state hosted georgia tech. I flew in the day of never met either of them. We ended up having a rain delay on abc. I put on the meteorologists cap test thrown in down to the field getting rain and lightning updates from me but it was so much fun to work with those two. There are such professionals. Obviously greg is an incredible analyst. Who knows the ins and outs of this game Like nobody else and so. I'm really excited to get to be with them Week one and just to get to listen to them. Call a game because i think they do a great job together and it'll be fun to listen to the crowds as well to right. It's going to be nice to have. I think i miscalculated last year. About how much. I love college football i. I didn't love college football. I love college football with fans because it really has the pageantry of the sport here on the finebaum show. We talked so much about the sec. In georgia to florida lsu alabama all this stuff. But you've covered the acc or the sec network for the last couple of years. It always feels like just clemson in nobody else like you know. Sell me on the reason why someone to give clemson lee someone a run for their money. This year. why fingers it pertains to clemson in the atlantic i think. Nc state is prime to make a push do. I think that they'll be able to do so. No but they've got a really good team with a ton of veterans returning. I think it's you know. Twenty of the twenty two starters from last season return. They've got a healthy quarterback in devon. Larry he's exciting And dorin is blue collar And so those guys really go to battle for him on the other side and the coastal. That's where i think you could actually see somebody make a push. Whether that's miami are north carolina. I mean they've got two great quarterbacks. Can you pick it even at pittsburgh. I think you have to mention as maybe a dark horse But with derrick king coming back healthy as you know opening up down in atlanta against alabama week one and then north carolina goes on the road and opens their season against a coastal coastal. Divisional opponent in virginia tech. Sam how is electric as well. North carolina has to rebuild and find some younger guys to step up and make plays because they lost so much offensive production from a season ago. They can light up the scoreboard. And then for miami. you know. This'll be derek kings. Second year with lashley They really got things clicking by the end of that season So they've got a ton of returners on both sides. I think manny diaz has to feel confident about where they're ought assuming. Derek king is one hundred percent healthy and by all reports in every conversations. I've had and you hear coming out of miami's preseason camped here at king's ready to roll. Remember last year. Twenty seven touchdowns for jerry king part of what you know. Pete golding at alabama tide. Defense gonna have to deal with over in week one but they have had success hundred nick sabin to say.

When i'll be shocked if he beat clemson 'cause it'll be the most talented team he's ever beating. It'd be the most talented team ever being. The only two games he played against were more talented. Was the two thousand seventeen alabama team in two thousand eighteen alabama tea. That's the only other than that. They were more talented. Everyone else and guess what you know. Everybody likes to throw in mississippi state record with dan. Mullen against georgia. But dan has had one top ten team so far and he's undefeated georgia with that top ten team we have the seventh best rank roster dc or coming in. There's only a couple of teams more talented than us. So we have to play to strengthen you got five eleven hundred. Eighty five pounds quarterback come in swamp in timber when it's going to be a hundred twenty degrees feeling on business side and you never played in this hot. The game every he'll life alabama's in trouble has a grey day. Peter thank you for the phone call. Here's what i do agree with you in the fact that there is a ton of pressure on curb smart. I don't think that there is a doubt in that. One of the things. That was cool. This year is the fact that we got to go attend and have sec media days right normally. This is being my seventh year. That i've had an opportunity to do it. We kind of think all right. It's just kind of a punch the clock and you do these interviews and the coaches give us cliches. But what i've found over the last. You know at least a couple of seasons of doing it is that you can really learn a lot about how a coach thinks. His team's going to be with their demeanor off the camera. It what i mean by that a couple of years ago i remember mark. Stoops is stopping back in in in our little area off camera and i went up to mark and i was like coach. Suits like what's wrong. He was upset and he was like yummy. He just goes on a tirade. He couldn't believe the team was getting a bunch of disrespect. And no one's asking me the questions about this team and we're going to be damned good and stuff like that. I was like whoa all right. Well okay and that was a year. That i was real high on kentucky and that was year. They won ten games. I tell that story to tell this story this year unlike any other year. I've ever seen kirby smart when kirby smart showed up at media days. I'll be honest with you. He normally fills pretty tight right. Normally kind of comes across as i've got you know he. He wants to do the sabin job where he just wants to lock. And he's only going to give you football answers. I saw kirby smart and a different way this year than ever seen kirby smart. I know that's not knows i know. That's not the guys on his roster. I know that's not what the game plan is going to be on clemson. But that's the mark of someone who is extremely extremely comfortable with what his team is. And i don't think it's just what his team looks like roster wise. It's a man that's extremely comfortable with. What the defensive staff looks like. The offense of staff looks like what this whole vibe is around in athens and to me. That was one of the reasons why go and you know what i think. That's why georgia is a team. That's headed to the college football playoff. Just because i'm never seen kirby smart that way. Eight five five four. Two paul is the phone number. Let's go to dublin georgia mark. Thanks for joining. Peter burns in the paul finebaum. Show what's up. Hey peter how you doing today. i'm doing great man. how you doing. "We get to talk to everybody. You guys frankly jealous of the student journalists because you guys are actually. They're covering these teams. You know what something that you've learned really over this last eighteen months. And what how you do your job as a journalist that that has kind of changed from previous before the pandemic well. Now we're finally getting back to more In steph I would say the main thing that's changed for me. I really learned to appreciate this in-person time we get with these people When you're doing something a resume there's just a little bit of that that's lost from getting the ask a good question and getting a response from someone it all feels kinda robotic and now that we're starting to get back in person. You're you're getting that interaction that i think journalists kinda crave. Yeah i was going to say any piece of advice for just somebody. That's watching today and say. Hey they wanna go to kentucky. They wanna follow in your footsteps. What what what do you tell them. Make the most out of every opportunity. You get whether it's going to cover the club hockey team new intense doing volleyball. If you get the chance to do basketball or football take every opportunity you get and run with it and see how are you can take it. Is there any sport. That you've seen around kentucky wildcat athletics. Obviously we know obeys a basketball and football. Has there any been any story lines that have kind of like. Wow i didn't know this existed or these coaches were out there. What's caught your eye while i if you paid attention to the olympics this summer. Uk lit it up. I think if they would have been a country themselves they would have finished in the top ten so You know the track and field team is amazing We got a gold medal in rifle. A gold medal in fencing You know Our tennis team did very well. Liam drexel was the number one player in the world for a good portion of the year. So honestly like everywhere you look like you is no longer just a one or two sports school. I think they prove this summer. That they're kinda everywhere. I love it. hundred your everywhere man. I appreciate the the advice for the younger guys. And we'll We'll always take that us. Old guys will take your advice as well. We appreciate it and how y'all have a great season up there in lexington right. Thank you peter. I appreciate it there. It is hunter shelton kentucky colonel sports editor some great stuff Some of the up and coming talent. Jake tank mark tony bob. Hunter ron all you guys are on on. Hold right now. "Three one to go. Welcome back into the paul finebaum. Show peter burns. Sitting in for mr paul finebaum today. A five to four two. Paul is the phone number as always. You can hit me up on twitter at peter burns. Esp in we've been having a back to school theme right like all week long talking to some of the great student journalists around the sec. So now it's time to head up the lexington hundred shelton of the kentucky kernel hit sports editor over. There is joining us a hundred. I'm so excited because each year. There's a little bit more. Pardon me that loves mark. stoops at what. He's building lexington What is it that excites wildcat fans up there about this upcoming year well peter making grabbing me. First of all i will say you know. We're now entering year. Nine under mark stoops He's it's another short tenure coach share. You know he's. He's built his culture. He's program and i think one of the more exciting things susan liam cohen bring him in from the rams You know they've moved away from eddie grand. It's gonna be a new offense. I think that a lot of fans have been dying to ask you years and amino with cone lettuce and you're going to see some more spread you know. Lettuces got the dual threat. Thing going for him. So i think you're going to see a new look on the offensive side of the ball. Uk so obviously big blue nation is awesome right anytime you go up there. And it's all about coach carlo with the cats are going to be able to do right. How much has that conversation been this year with this team. Does he feel like there's a different buzz around campus. Because of that you know kentucky fans are always optimistic sometimes may be too optimistic. I think they know that there's a lot of talent this year. I would argue. This may be the the deepest team. Mark stoops has had in his tenure at uk. So i think they know that there's a possibility that they could make a run You know finish top two in the east possibly But you know they. Uk fans do tend to get ahead of themselves a little bit so I think they need to take it one day at a time in tennessee where it goes from there. I love your your coaching. The team as they go in the fan base you talk about. We'll let us in. It's crazy. I mean from the today show to the viral video that he's had what's it like on campus is kind of this johnny manziel. Big man on campus thinkers. You kind of low key and chill you know. I think we'll pretty chill i. I haven't seen him on. Campus personally But you know obviously with a tick talking in. I'll sorta things. He's going to make the most of that. And i think his star you know can be as big as he wants to make to be in your. Bbn's going to respond to that for sure we've seen so much changes in the sport whether it's transfer portal name image aliveness and stuff like that when you cover it there for kentucky because there are some big stars and all of these sec schools. How how if any have you seen it change or is it kind of much do about nothing at. I think it just kind depends on the player with basketball. You might see a little more that public stuff but the vibe that i've gotten from the football team so far is that they're not really letting that distract them you know. They're they're more focused on the on. The field stuff rather than the off the field stuff so i think here and there you'll see a deal come up here and there for a player but i don't think it's going to be a big thing on lexington's campus this season. You know hundred when we talk about kentucky. We're talking about chris rodriquez right. We're talking about one. Dale robertson the talented transfer from nebraska. And of course. We'll lettuce but you guys are always turning out a lot of a lot of content right. Are there any stories in kind of realize that we don't know about that around kentucky athletics that you guys have worked on recently You know. I think with this football team. There's a lot of great stories on there's been a lot of people transferring in and each time we get to media and we get these people you know you there. Everyone so person will on this team here. You're getting so much good coverage and everyone that i've spoken with you. You always learn something new about him whether you know. It's where they come from what they used to. Do you know what they're doing now. What they're studying a uk No one in particular but like it's a very fun group. Yeah again it. Does that feel like it's changed over the last couple of seasons in years that you've been there as far as you know opening up a little bit more. Yeah i do think. It's changed a little bit since i've been here. This is really the first year that i've been able to cover football myself but You know obviously everything's always kind of in the shadow of basketball here so to see football players get a little more buzzes excited. All right so with that being said it is in the shadows of basketball coach cal and the cats coming off a one of their more trying. Here's than ever before. I would say that. What's what's the idea of what this team is gonna look like going forward or people already started kind of projecting that senate again for me it cut out no just double check in about like what is the idea of what big blue nation basketball is going to look like. Our people were super excited after kind of a tough twenty twenty season. I think this kind of put a lot of fans in check that you know. Not every year is going to be a successful one in in-and-out kinda year again. They've got a lot of good talent coming in from the transfer portals. So if those guys are able to plug in well obviously john calipari is going to get the most out of those guys for for you. We have an opportunity..

Ohio State's E.J. Liddell shares threats, vulgar insults received after Oral Roberts loss
"Ohio State, A two seed took a first round lost Orel Roberts of 15 seed. Roberts became the 9th 15, seeded to defeat a two seed in the round of 64. The one is the largest N C a a tournament upset since 16 seed you, NBC upset one seed Virginia and 2018 as a 20.5 point underdog. Of course, the outcome of the game was a big deal for both teams. Ohio State forward EJ Ladell led his team with 23 points and became on Lee, the second Ohio State player with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. And an N C a a tournament game. He's also the first ever Big 10 player with those numbers since 2000 and 12. The guy's definitely one of us use most valuable players, but he missed a free throw in the final seconds of the contest. On Friday, Ladell tweeted screenshots of messages that were sent to him after the loss with people threatening his life and saying they wish he was dead. Here's Mel Kiper and Katie George. Don't with it. Everybody deals with it in the public eye and EJ Lovell is a young kid who shouldn't have to deal with it. But that's the reality of social media. Now that's the world these kids live in, and we all live in now. I didn't have to deal with that. When I was growing up, they do. That's just the world as I say you live in and the authorities have to deal with this the best they can, But it is something they should obviously investigating will, But it's just unfortunate that everybody that's in the public ideals with this and that's unfortunate, really unfortunate that kids have to but That's life in the world we live in right now. Unfortunately, it is, you know, social media has become so prevalent and so much a part of our lives into your point knows people in the media. We're often told by higher ups and bosses just Don't look at it. Don't listen to it. Just move on about your day, but to your point when people are saying mean things and threatening you like they did Ladell. It's really hard to just tuck it away and move on. A lot of times. You want to respond, but you also don't want to incite anything further. That's something that's reported Katie which he did report it. Yeah, exactly. And for this situation, I'm actually proud of Ladell for not just standing by for responding and screen shotting and calling these people out for the vile things that they said, and and hopefully they're reprimanded for for doing so because it has no place in sports.

"Burns, Not Katie George Chris Door. I'm playing the role of us, George today here on ESPN Radio show is always presented by progressive insurance in a lot of people here on our staff Matlack James Steele, Rocky Sea or Producers, You make this show Go on. Just found out the startling fact that Chris during is a bath guy straight early in the morning in the commercial break, and not traditionally just one bath throughout the day CD, You're a multiple bath guy, which is a little serial killer issue. If you have a three bath guy on a normal day, it's one to wake up and so the bones and get ready for the day and usually to the workout and then post workout. I get my second bath and then into the night. I can't have Bed without a bath. You know, you gotta be clean before you get in the sheets. So three bath for me, man, which doesn't help my water. Bill. I've been a bad since I was 12 a deal. I don't missing out, bro. Like I feel like a bath should be an occasional like like Lamar Jackson deserves a bath this morning, right after last night's game gets can constantly just just have a relaxing, like just let's think about the all season, right? Does Shawn Watson with everything that's going on the Houston Texans? He deserves the badges to kind of think about things, right? Like I feel like just sitting in your own dirty water is not the best way to go through life. And yet you do it. You decide to do it three times dates back to my playing days were like you had to get loose before you go out warm up. So you sit in the tub for five minutes. You know get you get the blood flowing a little bit, and I'll even throw it and then one step further. So weird cause I still actually get the newspaper delivered to my driveway. So actually read the old school newspaper while sitting in the bathtub in the morning. You know who you are, Do you This? Are you smoking a cigar? When you do that? Please say I guarantee you have a robe. I guarantee you have a road with your initials on it. And you know what else? He has Nobody else form after you go first. No. He has one of those easy stare list like the old people have, like, you know, like, or he just sits down and it takes him up the stairs. Motorized cart for ranch style Florida home. No, those There's that's even more par for the course. Then are any of these bass in the cold tub. You're an athlete. I figure maybe you shake it up and get some ice in there. Every once in a while. I have a big believer in the cold tub have, you know? Bit my toe in the cryo therapy, which I do not think is it's effective as the cold tub, but this time I like my pool. Temperatures have 59 degrees, so I'll go out and sit in the pool for 10 12 minutes following a workout, man just to kind of get things right for me. Well, maybe the old Aaron Rodgers might do that as well to to get his bones going is he's going to actually host an NFC championship game, which is awesome in I was going to play the call and let's hear because I feel like this one. This play right here broke it open for the Packers last night against the Rams, Devante wide to the right side, soft coverage by Jalen Ramsey on that side. Rodgers takes fakes. The handoff looks just throw lots of down the Middle West. He is done..

WNBA players walk off court during national anthem
"Now we did see W N B a back yesterday. And what's that? What's the one headline that you're seeing this morning? Katie George, from WNBA being back Okay, so actually just Googled it just for Research purposes, right? Not that you were just going to ask me that so I just typed in in Google search WN Ba The 1st 3 headlines are WN. Ba players walk off Court during national anthem before season opener Next one W NBA players walk off court during during during what I'm going through 12345678 Headlines before I get to use a Today's WNBA returns. Liberty Storm Players leave court before Anthem. That's the story right? And that's why I said the lie will get halfway around the world before the pants or the truth that even has a chance to put its pants on. Correct and so yesterday, and by the way, one of these stories is ESPN Twitter account itself. So let's not say that it's everybody else. ESPN Twitter account ran. This is well to over four million views of a video. Of the WNBA doing a fantastic job on the say her name social awareness of Briana Taylor campaign. It was, It was well done. We've seen, you know players from all different sports. Talk about black lives matter. This is part of this right W NBA very strong in their beliefs and doing that. And so, the first thing I see Is all right. That happens. The national anthem is played and then WNBA players walk off. I'll be honest with you. I've been in favour of everything you guys know we've talked about this on and off the air. Like black lives matter has been an awesome strong campaign players kneeling during the anthem. We knew that it was never about the politics of it. It was it was about, you know, just bringing awareness. Like if you were educated enough. You knew that that was the case, right? Did this upset this upset me, right? And then I almost took to Twitter. Katie and I almost just put out the salvo like everybody does. Like, I can't believe this. I stand up for all this stuff. And you know what? Let me let me double check this. Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly, and I could not find the actual video of this. And because I couldn't see if the anthem was actually being played, or this was before. Holly Rowe than tweets. How go No. This was the players leaving. They went back to the locker room. And then the national anthem was played on. Not unlike every single college football game that you and I both attended a lot of it. They come out for warm ups. They go back in the locker room national anthem is played. When they come out, they play a game. And yet this goes to show you how quick people are wanting to put in their political two cents, Ah lot of times and jump on a story when they haven't actually research Said Story. And it's just I thought it was a good lesson to learn for ESPN as well. Two on how to handle this any such a touchy subject right now. It was interesting. I got the alert right on my phone because I have the ESPN app and the alerts on loud and sew it deemed and I immediately went to it. And I saw you know the headline that they walk out during And I was like, Wow, that's pretty bold. And I wonder what the thought process was behind this because, like you, I jump Tio. It's one thing to kneel, and now we've all been educated on what the kneeling represents during the national anthem, and you see teammates put their their hands on their teammates, shoulders and it's a powerful moment, right? We saw that with MLB is opening day throughout the opening weekend. We've seen that with the MLS as well, A Zen ba scrimmages. But for you to walk out during the national anthem, I was like that's taking disrespect to another level, right? And so I was irritated when I read the headline, and then I went and watch the video. And I couldn't hear the national anthem being played. I could just see the women walking off the court and so I thought. I don't know if this is just bad quality and video like we don't have the sound, but I actually can't hear the anthem. But still, it's a bad look, Lynn, and maybe this was the WN Ba players saying, Hey, we need to like up the ante here. We need to make headlines because we want, you know, eyeballs on our league and we want to make a statement. That's where I thought it was. That was at what four o'clock? Three o'clock yesterday. But then, as I started researching more, I was like, Geez, I don't know if this is actually how it went down until Mike ate, texted us last night and said, Look, here's a correction and ESPN actually put out another alert and corrected itself, which I thought was big time. Because not everybody that I just read off all these headlines. Do you have done so or even updated their articles online right now to change the wording during two before walking off before the national anthem as compared to walking off during is a completely different optic, in my opinion, and so the fact that they walked off before, and this is their way. Of saying We're going to protest. I understand it, and I'm behind it. But to your point it was a great learning lesson because I like we've joked about people want to be outraged for the sake of being outraged. I was outraged yesterday unfairly because I don't have the facts. But neither did any news outlets either. And that to me was
