"Are presented by progressive insurance time for us to go out to the shell Pennzoil performance signed boxing writer Brian Butler joins us now we profiled the Ansei Wilder to great profile for the undefeated brand rumor has it on the street you answer the phone when our producer called you just now and the first thing out of your mouth was wasn't that fight off David I aren't exactly convinced explain why we're wrong and you thought this fight was so awesome well because it's one of the great come back stories maybe in the history of sports are you arguably you had everybody hyping Wilder is the most dangerous puncher in the history of heavyweight boxing and somebody was afraid to take their shirt off at the way in just backed down Wilder the entire fight probably broke his ear drum in the third round and demolish them to provide kind of a coronation of the greatest heavyweight in the world and a looming unit unification fight with Anthony Joshua are likely in the U. K. could be one of the biggest fights in heavyweight history so yeah I'm pretty pumped about it all those things make sense but it seems like you're pumped about the things that are down the road that the potential of this Josh awhile and it enticing verified and clearly that is exciting but what's next for Deontay Wilder do you think he gets another shot or was this the last that he had for Tyson fury well the last time anything like this happen fifty on pay while there was twelve years ago by a Russian amateur just you know what the last heavy weight I think who stood out through in fact the mop and brutally knocked them out but would not be enough as a pro and it just seems I mean granted fury is a six foot nine heavy weight with an eighty five inch reach to do it I don't think many heavyweights fit the bill of of having those kind of tools to back them up with a you know a crown Jim style jab like you showed in this fight but I think while there isn't going to be a tough one to come back from and he immediately offered some excuses followed by that he's not providing any excuses and I think the thing that kind of sticking near bed issues likely to fire the guy he threw in the towel mark green one because I think it's Clyde is gonna really interim after this fight after all these promises about what he was going to do to fury somebody who brags about wanting a body on his resume and fortunately he looked like a dead man after the third round and so I think that's a really tough one for me to come back from but he showed a lot of heart as they say I think after the third round you got hit on the year he was bleeding from the year which is a pretty good indicator that there is some here from damage sure tremendous courage and heart but I mean lost every single round it was knocked down three times this is going to be a hard one for him to recover from boxing writer Brett Butler is our guest he profile Deontay Wilder for the undefeated getting ready for this fight brain is it fair to say or unfair that Wilder was ill prepared for this fight while there that we've ever seen who's just been a wrecking ball through the heavyweight division so I don't know what people were looking out with them when I watch them so far in preparation for the first fight against Yuri you look this way the first by he was able to beat him as a boxer beat him every round that Wilder didn't knock him down and here he the the boxer beat the puncher bully them throughout backed them up throughout so I think what is going to have a lot of problems coming back from this but he's shown a tremendous amount of discipline to get where he is he just turned twenty eight million dollars allegedly for this fight so we're gonna see who use with a lock on his resume instead of being the guy who was hyped as the next great American heavyweight the Wilder line going into this fight he was the favorite maybe because of those knockdowns that he accomplished in the first part but she we have listened to fury a little bit more we talked about how he was feeling more comfortable heading into the second fight because you had more fights under his belt after having the hiatus going into the first floor well I think you're you've always been able to fight the level of competition he did against Klitschko as as a pretty heavy underdog the first fight against Wilder he came back from being morbidly obese he was vital a real loss person to put up a tremendous performance that created the anticipation for this fight so if you know the gypsy king is able to step up to the competition I've never ever in my life seen a heavy weight come out if Kathy Klein in court the fight for the title pretty incredible but this is a guy he's a star you know we have the charisma of of somebody's gonna transcend sports and now you've got another thing under his resume to you offer legitimacy to you being you know on his way to maybe be one of the big faces of sports around the world Brent Butler with us on the shell Pennzoil performance side it's game night ESPN radio ESPN app primary gold ever with gave night so fill in the blank for us friend Tyson.

And to a the girl that he's the freshman girl that he's that he's talking with and she's like freshman, Eric, and she's loaded and. Tony goes Tony goes, she doesn't have to. She doesn't have to read. 'cause she's with me. And Parker Posey is just so dismissive. He just goes anyway era, a complete with this. Oh, man. Oh, I love that movie. Okay. We're talking about the hall of fame. They announced the two thousand nineteen candidates or the inductees the class. And we're talking about people who have not been we've not been in who are not part of the rock and Roll Hall of fame, and that they should be in some some some of which haven't even been nominated, and it's a crime nine one three erica's monkeys deserve despite how they began. Seven seven three coach said Janet should not have gotten in a head of Todd Rundgren but voted for them both. Six three area code says foreigner in America. Yeah. I I guess I could see that. I could definitely see America. Yeah. Yeah. In foreigner. Even you know, they should they were big kids. Big hits. Someone says death leopards music sales versus Warren's Yvonne, no contest. But let's talk about the quality of the music. No contest. Is right. Warren's Yvonne far superior. Even in the same category. Let's see here's Mike on WGN. Hey, Mike a Mona mic morning. Oh, boy list, my domination that I think should be in there as came crimson in it. I think so. Princeton is in almost positive that they're in the rock and Roll Hall of fame. Yeah. So that'll Ravin. Trowel, Robin Trower is definitely not in a rock and roll thing that same Rory Gallagher. Bray fan funk railroad JETRO toll in Kansas all of them have been in there long ago. Yeah. Those are all those are all those are all good choices. They're all good choices. Yeah. All right. Thanks, mike. I take care. How about this? Patsy Kline is not in the rock and Roll Hall of fame. One of the first country artists to take hold of the pop charts. Kathy Klein is the most important influential woman in country music's rich history. Outcast. They still got a little ways to go right there. I there for Salvador would've came come out probably early nineties. Yeah. They're probably just reaching eligibility. There might be earlier hip hop acts on your list before outcast. But there aren't bigger or more impactful outcasts may very well. Be the greatest hip hop group of all time who crossed over to a massive pop success. And put Atlanta rap on the map. That's true. Those guys changed the game. Yeah. I'll tell you. I'll tell you what though. In the fall of two thousand three I got a little bit tired of. Hey, I still get a little bit tired of it was like come on, man. I mean seriously. Well, that was I was in like the third grade third fourth grade. So it was it was a clean song. That. Yeah. Play on pretty much any radio station. Yeah. And so it got marketed to us relentlessly, and it was everywhere. I mean, it was everywhere. Made on kids. Bop. I just remember I remember that this is the that air that that time period that that fall of two thousand three the two things that I that that stand out for me. Well, three things because I was we were we had just opened to play called. Here comes a regular. That that I wrote directed. And so that's that's a that's a big part of that of that time period. But it was that damn song everywhere and the cubs postseason. Oh, yeah. And of course, the Bartman game was was right around that time. But man that song. Oh, my God everywhere. How about this Mary wells is not in the rock and Roll Hall of fame wells as an important part of getting African American music on the radio during the sixties, and she was one of the key figures. In Motown, arguably its greatest female solo act. Canna ban like can has the same problems craft work there, high art style doesn't stick with your typical hard rock voters. But the band's experimental rock has gone on to influence about as many artists as anyone else on this list. That's true. Very true. Very weird band. I mean. Yeah. I mean, it would be cool. But I don't see that happening. Here's one. Pet benetton? How was Pat Benetton out in the rock and Roll Hall of fame? You know, I was looking into it. They're they're like campaigns to get Benetton because she belongs cheese should be in the rock and Roll Hall of fame. For some reason women just don't get the love that they deserve when it comes to rock the rock hall, if a man had the resume of hits and impact on rock music that Benetton did he would have been inducted already. That's ridiculous that she's not. I mean, Benetton, man. Yeah. Love is a battlefield. There's so many shots. So many songs, man. I mean, she was a stay growing up listening to the drive like choose on every hour. I saw her. I've I've seen Benetton live of bunch of times and always great. And she's got an unbelievable voice like her voices ridiculous. And she's a she's she's a bad ass, man. I mean, just like a rock God, you know. Lonnie Donnegan the biggest and most influential British artists of the pre Beatles era remains one of the most towering figures in UK music history. Oh, man. The goes. The first all female band to score a number one album that was completely written recorded by themselves. Go-goes are one of the biggest and most important female acts of all time. They say, I totally agree with that. I saw them. I saw them twice open up for the police. Oh, that's that's going to be a pretty good show. It was great actually three times three times. I saw them three times on the golden machine tour. Yeah. One of the many many times I saw the police. Especially during that time goes machines gray record fantastic. I I've said this before that that my favorite band. Of that of that period. Without question is the police and they existed for the entire four years of my high school the first album came out in nineteen seventy nine their last album came out in nineteen Eighty-three. That's the those are the years child in the summer of eighty three. They ended up. They ended up breaking up in. You know, they were they were around. It's eighty four secrecy her, you know, that went on forever got kicked off here in Chicago. The very first very first date of the synchronicity tour was at Comiskey old Comiskey man, and it was. It was the police headlining and the opening acts were. Joan Jett and she got booed off the stage. Right. The fix flock ac- goals. And ministry, and that was when ministry sounded like Depeche mode. Because there was a time period where ministry sounded like they sounded like Depeche mode, and their first record with sympathy is a is a is a new wave poppy Depeche mode kind of kind of album, and it wasn't until because he had the Jorgensen signed a contract with the with the record label, and they made him do the album that way. He wanted to do that. He wanted to do the hardcore. He wanted to do the industrial stuff, which I can't stand. I love I love the advertisements. Have I told you the story of my buddy Jo pay listen now and his encounter with Al Jorgensen? No, I'm not hanging out with ministry. Well, Joe was a joke. God bless him. But God bless his soul. Joe was a a producer. He produced a records and stuff, and he was an engineer. So he was working on. He's he did dance stuff. That was that's what he was what he what he loved. And Joe was the biggest. Depeche mode fan on the planet was no bigger Depeche mode fan on the planet than Joe dirty greatest dirty greatest band of all time, he loved love Depeche mode, and he loved the first ministry album because it was that kind of music and. So now, it's notorious it's known notoriously Jorgenson is is is not the nicest guy in the world has had some serious issues with drugs and things like that. And he, you know, he's he's kind of a bit of a lunatic driving around eighty miles an hour with dreadlocks looks like he has had a bath. In about five months. And he hates the first album. He hates with sympathy. That's the that's ministries first album, which he hates it. Doesn't even speak of it kind of denies that ever existed was so happy to get out of the contract and do the kind of music that he wanted to do. And Joe, my friend Joe. Hated the industry the industrial stuff hated hated and thought as relief band turned into this crap, you know, because he he loves with sympathy. So he's at he's at a studio in downtown Chicago. And there are there are you know, he's an facility in their three different studios. And he was working with a band in one studio. And ministry was working or Jorgensen was working in in another studio down the hall, and Joe didn't really realize this Jogos the common room where they have, you know, pop machine coffee, all that stuff. So he's getting like a coffee or something. And all of a sudden l Jorgensen comes in. Worse for the wear. Okay. He comes in and just kinda walks in and Jogos. Hey, and I'll Jorgensen. Working just kind of looks at him. And you'll goes, hey, listen. Hey, listen, what what the hell happened after that first album? Jorgenson spit at him. And told them to F off and he walked out Jogos. Hey, that's a little rude as he walked out. But but the thing it was the Joe wasn't doing Joe Joe is being very sincere. It wasn't like he wanted to antagonize. No. He just said, hey, listen, what the hell happened? You know, this is a man I really wish I could met. Oh, yeah. But I gotta say maybe if he wanted to sound a little bit nicer he should've said what the hell happened. That's Joe though, man. I mean that was Joe, man. Did I tell you the the Oliver Stone? Yeah. Okay. I told you that. Yeah. And I'm looking at a picture of Al Jorgensen in the widths of the he does look like a judge. No question about it. He's got the real short hair bombing turtleneck yet. No, no, no. I mean, it's in that album. If you've ever listened to that album it is full on early eighties new wave. I might like it. It's great. And I gotta admit there's there's some, you know ministry during their heyday, I do enjoy some of the also they also did he also did a single which ended up on one of them beer commercials called everyday is Halloween. Do you know what that doesn't sound like industrial stuff? That's. I did not know that was ministry ministry again. That's ministry. Joe love that song rules. So probably thought it was Depeche. Yeah. So all right. We got a break here, and we'll come back up, and we got more rock and Roll Hall of fame notes here. If you want to jump in who do you think should be nominated who isn't who's been snubbed three one two nine eight one seven two hundred more coming up after we break after last week's battle in Baltimore. "Make a Cup of mocha. This is just some horrible stuff. Seventy-seven WABC. So we did talk about Ted Bundy he has been everywhere lately the nut lakes, Ted Bundy special. I guess I saw. It's fascinating. And I believe channel seven here. Locally WABC is doing a big piece on twenty twenty on Friday night about Ted Bundy as well. So bundy. They say at least between nineteen seventy four and nineteen seventy eight in seven different states responsible for about thirty plus Motors. That's what he confessed to all young girls females teenagers into their twenties and thirties. Anyway, the real conventional wisdom is is that he started these killings in the sixties not nineteen seventy four and the list is probably closer to one hundred then the thirty that he confessed to, but of course, he's gone. So that side, but there were a couple of ladies who actually thank God. Thank God got away from him. One of them was Kathy Kleiner. She was asleep for Florida. Sorority house Florida Gators in nineteen seventy eight in Gainesville, and he broke in Ted Bundy did brutalize her, but she survived and as we find out now did not let the experience define her. So we're talking about now forty one years later and Kathy Kleiner has the courage to talk about what happened to her from Ted Bundy. But that said here she is on the bunny and sit in the morning show. Good morning, Kathy. Good morning. Thank you for inviting me. Thank you for for coming on this. I mean, I I don't know the details of your experience. I don't know if you'd like to go into that the harrowing experience, but the fact of forty one years later, you're still talking about this is a courageous and helpful copy on your part. It is it has helped heal. But also, Kathy Kleiner a understand. It was traumatic. But people say that you've kind of gotten over it. I mean you joke about it. You never get over something like that. But you've you've mentally adjusted and you're healthy, psychologically. Yes. Let's go. From the Bundy attack his execution that that further. You're sort of psychological rehabilitation from all this perhaps. I was pretty well. Okay. What was going on? I wasn't. Okay. But I understood as much as I could about ninety I read all the books. I watched all the movies. I actually have his books on a little library, and and my room in my office. So by talking about it and listening to it. I think that did help me with recuperation as far as physically and mentally when he was executed. I remember being in my little apartment, and my fiance was sitting next to me on the sofa. And when we got the call that it was actually over that. He was dead. I remember sitting on the sofa just crying and crying and getting it all out of my system, and I was crying mainly for Margaret and Lisa the two sorority sisters that kill and once I got that over with. And once I was opposed by. Self. I told my fiance, I'm hungry. Look so to breakfast. And again, good for you. In Tallahassee Florida state, not Gainesville Florida. So what did you do to to survive? You mentioned some of your sorority sisters. Unfortunately, did not they stopped with a worse fate. What did you do Kathy to survive that night? That that night was a confusing blurry night. I do remember I was sleeping, and I heard him open our door to our bedroom. And we had the trunk between the two twin bed and there was about three feet on each side of the trunk before. He got to our bag. I remember him tripping over the truck which made enough noise for me to wake up at that point not knowing it was head. All I knew was that. There was a black figure in front of me. And I remember seeing him lift his arm over his head with the of firewood that he had picked up outside the sorority and slamming it on my face. And it really felt it was more of a side instead of a sharp pain. It was it was weird. It was just a third, and I yeah. Hard one. Then I didn't know what was happening. He went to right across the truck and started attacking my roommate. At which time he knew that. I was still awake are still alive. I had my jaw fractured and my tongue almost fitting off so in my head. I was screaming and asking for help. But actually all redoing was moaning, right? Leave any victims alive. So he came back. I believe to go ahead and kill me. But before that a car light were shown up into our bedroom. We had our curtains open and the room was really eliminated with this light. And at that point. He thought he was seen. So he left our room ran down the hall and left the front door. Now you wear were you aware of his name? Did you know there was a Ted Bundy out there? Somebody hit you. You're like, oh my God. I'm his next victim or didn't even know existed. I didn't know he existed. I was shelled sophomore at Florida state, and I was living life, and I was having fun, and you know, sorority house and everything and head Bundy wasn't even in my radar having. I don't know of anyone in the forty or ethics you or aware who he was what he was now, Kathy. Klein, of course, one of two women who survived the brutal attack by Ted Bundy. You're clearly aware of the show that said was talking about the Netflix special conversations with a killer, the Ted Bundy tapes, and that's looks how to put out a statement to women stop calling this guy hot. He's not a matinee idol, take it easy. I mean, what would you say to women like that works? So so callous to the victims. I believe that I believe that things are missing or their life. Is messed up the women that really idolized him is something was missing their lives that they felt that if they that attention to this person that was getting all the attention Bundy, let people see what he wanted them to see he was in control of that. So by making himself feel the same way it's other felt people felt about I think in half his personality to oneself and let people see that only that five. Wow. Well, listen, you're an amazing amazing story was so happy that you're with us forty one years later, and that you're getting to tell the story. So best of luck to you. And they don't live live a nice healthy fund live. It's all we can say thank you, so bad, blessing godspeed. Thank you very much. Thank you so much. Thank you. All right. Kathy Kleiner did survive a night with. Ted Bundy broken and tried to bottom line seventy seven..

Myself. I told my fiance, I'm hungry. Again. Good for you. In Tallahassee Florida state, not Gainesville Florida. So what did you do to to survive? You mentioned some of your sorority sisters that unfortunately, did not they stopped with a worse fate. What did you do Kathy to survive that night? That that night was confusing blurry night. I do remember I was sleeping, and I heard him open our doors to our bedroom, and we had the trunk between the two Clinton and there was about three feet on each side of the trunk before. He got to our bed. I remember him tripping over the Trump which made enough noise for me to wake up at that point not knowing it was head. All I knew was that. There was a black figure in front of me. And I remember seeing have lift his arm over his head with the piece of firewood that he had picked up outside the sorority and slamming it on my face, and it really felt it was more of a side instead of a sharp pain. It was it was weird. It was just and I yeah. Hard one. Then I didn't know. Of course, what was happening. He went to right across the truck and started a khaki. My roommate. At which time he knew that. I was still awake are still alive. I had my jaw fractured and my tongue almost fitting off so in my head. I was screaming and asking for help. But actually, all are we doing was moaning, right? Alive. So he came back. I believe to go ahead and kill me. But before that a car light were shown up into our bedroom. We had our curtains open and the room was really eliminated with this light. And at that point. He thought he was seen. So he left our room ran down the hall and left the front door. Wow. Now. Now, were you aware were you aware of of his name? Did you know there was a Ted Bundy out there? Somebody hit you. You're like, oh my God. I'm his next victim or even know existed. I didn't know he existed. I was shell sophomore at Florida state, and I was living life, and I was having fun, and you know, sorority house and everything and head Bundy wasn't even in my radar. I don't know of anyone in this forty or ethics. You were aware of who he was or what he was no, Kathy. I mean, what would you say to women like that were? So so callous to the victims. I believe that I believe that things are missing or their life. Is messed up the women that really idolized him is something was missing in their lives that they felt that if they put attention to this person that was getting all the attention Bundy, let people see what he wanted them to see he was in control of that. So by making himself feel the same way as other felt people felt about him. I think in half his personality to himself and let people see that only that side. Wow. Well, listen, you're an amazing amazing story was so happy that you're with us forty one years later, and that you'll get a tell the story. So best of luck to you. And they don't live live a nice, healthy fun live. It's all we can say thank you, so bad, blessing godspeed. Thank you, Kathy very much. Thank you so much. Thank you. All right. Kathy Kleiner did survive a night. With Ted Bundy broke in and tried to kill bottom line. We'll come back things up. But after these words. Guests moments. I love you guys.
