New York eyes nixed COVID-19 vaccine rule for health workers
"In New York like in other states around the country, the debate continues over mandatory COVID vaccines for healthcare workers. The New York State Department of Health says it's exploring its options after a state Supreme Court judge struck down a mandate requiring healthcare workers to be vaccinated against COVID. The judge ruled that democratic governor Kathy hochul and the health department overstepped their authority by mandating a vaccine that's not included in state public health law. The mandate is null void and of no effect the judge said in siding with medical professionals for informed consent, a group of medical workers impacted by the vaccination mandate that brought the suit the health department says the requirement is a critical public health tool. Democrat Kathy Hochul sworn in as elected New York governor
"New York governor Kathy hochul was sworn in for her first full term on Sunday making history as the first woman elected to the position in the state. Hi, Kathy hochul. Do celebrity swear. Do solemnly swear. Kathy hochul starts her first full four year term as New York's governor but wants to make more than history. I came here to make a difference. Democrats says they're a fight ahead. First, we must and will. Make our state safer. This means New Yorkers can walk our streets and ride our subways. Our kids can go to school, free from fear. Local, who defeated Republican Lee zeldin also called for making the state more affordable, citing the high cost of living. Also sworn in Sunday, lieutenant governor Antonio Delgado, Julie Walker, New York
New York OKs human composting law; 6th state in US to do so
"New York becomes the 6th state in the nation to legalize human composting, technically known as natural organic reduction. Democratic governor Kathy hochul signed legislation on the last day of the year to allow human composting, which is considered an environmentally conscious method of burial, the body is placed in a reusable vessel along with plant material, such as wood chips, alfalfa and straw. The organic mix breaks the body down in about a month, the end result a cubic yard of nutrient dense soil or about 36 bags of it. The New York State Catholic conference calls it inappropriate and says human bodies are not household waste. Washington state Colorado Oregon, Vermont and California also allow human composting. Among the deceased in the buffalo storm, a woman trapped in her car for at least 18 hours, driving home from work before she was found dead. Western NY death toll rises to 27 from cold, storm chaos
"The snowfall in western New York is closed the airport in Buffalo is travelers around the country struggle to reach their destinations. More snow is falling in Erie county, New York already socked with a pair of winter storms. It is still a dangerous situation to be out. Governor Kathy hochul on state road closures. While we're learning from the buffalo airport that it is closed until Tuesday at 11 a.m. in San Diego. As heard on KFM BTV, hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled, and luggage just piled up at the baggage carousels. As would be travelers tried to rebook their flights. Massive winter storm brings rolling blackouts, power outages
"A massive storm is impacting about 60% of the U.S. population. The conditions include rain, snow and bone chilling temperatures. It is throwing everything at us, but the kitchen sink. Governor Kathy hochul state, New York is feeling the effects, power is out to more than a million homes across the country. There are rolling blackouts in the Tennessee valley to conserve power. Thousands of flights are canceled or in Alexis Goldberg's case in Newark delayed. When we got to the airport and as luck would have it, got out of the car and was hit with a 6 hour delay. The severe weather goes coast to coast. It is super slippy underfoot. David Sargent was scraping ice in Seattle. I took a bit of a tumble when I first got out there to start chipping away at the ice. Lee Zeldin Will Not Run for RNC Chair, Still Calls for New Leader
"Lee zeldin, writing on Twitter, I won't be running for RNC chair at this time with McDaniels reelection pre baked by design. But that does not mean she should even be running again. Zelda goes on to say here and this is from Politico. Change is desperately needed, and there are many leaders myself included ready and willing to step up to ensure our party retools and transforms as critical elections fast approach, namely the 2024 presidential and congressional races. Folks, if we keep doing what we're doing now, we're going to be blown out in 2024. Zeldin wrote to RNC leaders last month, laying out the case for his potential bid. He came within 6 points of beating Kathy hochul in blue state, New York. Quote, no matter what, I am committed to doing absolutely everything in my power to help save our country with every ounce of my energy. Zelda urged the party to develop its fundraising apparatus, bolster its ballot collection and election integrity efforts and build its grassroots after Republicans fared worse than expected across the nation on election day. And again, Trump says Trump has been out there from day one saying no to early voting. Zelda says the better path forward would be for chairwoman mcdaniel to listen and respect the wishes of the actual grass roots, voters of our party, and allow the RNC to forge ahead with new leadership. Her greatest service to the Republican Party at this time would be to make room for a new chair.
Parts of NY dig out after potentially 'historic' snowfall
"Some record snow gets dumped on parts of western New York as some residents dig out while others brace for even more snow 80 inches of snow and counting that's how much forecasters say has fallen in Orchard park near buffalo 74 inches in Hamburg There's been many other reports over 60 inches so we're talking about 5 feet of snow And national weather service meteorologist Jason allenbaugh says it's caused some damage There's been a few building collapses in Erie county of western New York due to such heavy weight of the snow Governor Kathy hochul says roads are getting cleared and preparation led to minimal power outages This has been an historic storm without a doubt it is one for the record books And as someone who's from buffalo and has lived in upstate my entire life we've seen a lot of snow but when you hit 80 to 85 inches over the course of just a couple of days no event So as it has become the second snowiest November at the buffalo airport I'm Julie Walker
Dinesh Continues His Review of the Midterm Election Results
"I'm back and we're talking about the midterms and some results have come in in the last day or so. In fact, I mean I were talking together about results out of New York. A number of congressional races that were poised kind of on the knife's edge or were right in the middle have tipped over into the Republican column. Let's remember, by the way, we think of New York, we're like, wow, New York really? What? But New York is fairly conservative outside of New York City. So as you begin to move Long Island as you move upstate, you republicanism is not uncommon, and in some ways it's even the majority. So it's only because of the dense population of New York that New York is a safely by and large democratic state. But what you have here is races that were that had about an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. So maybe even democratic leaning falling the Republican way. Now what does this mean? Well, it basically helps us in the house. And we have to give credit to this guy Lee zeldin, Lee zeldin ran against Kathy hochul for the governor's race, and he lost, but he lost pretty narrowly. I mean, if you look at those numbers between Zelda and hulk, I mean huckel won it pretty cleanly, but it was not the normal blowout. It wasn't something where hoku got 60 and zeldon got 40. It was something where these guys were just a few points apart and what that means is that Zelda had a sort of coattail in New York. He was able to pull up some of the other Republicans. By the way, this was just a confirmation of how politics works in teams. In other words, if you do well at the top of the ballot, you often do better at the bottom of the ballot. One of the anomalies of 2020 was the Trump lost, but Republicans down ballad did pretty well. This is an anomaly that I think about when I, as I put the film together 2000 meals and also wrote the wrote the accompanying book.
Kevin McCullough Brings Good News From Last Night's Results
"Continue talking to our friend Kevin McCullough. You may know him as his real name, votes for dumbest. I say it. It's a chilling thing to pronounce that word votes through. He knows all tells all, okay, votes true. Tell us more about what happened last night. Again, I have officially dubbed this, Eric is not allowed to be depressed day. Even though the media is telling you that Joe Biden won last night and that Trump is finished and that everything else is going downhill, that is the opposite of what happened. And you ended last hour talking about Lee zeldin. Let me just talk to you about the quote unquote failed candidacy of Lee zeldin. First of all, Kathy hochul will take this governorship reigns with the smallest percentage win of any governor in New York's history in the last hundred years. Nobody has come this close to losing their seat and still want it. Having said that, what does that mean? Well, she obviously has been sent a message that New Yorkers are tired of the crime. They've got a lot of issues about the economy, et cetera, et cetera. But in zeldin's fervor to get to that place, he worked 19 months, he held huge rallies on Long Island and upstate. There was obviously chicanery that took place in Manhattan that you were talking about cheating that's obvious. It's obvious that there's some sort of like printing press at the bottom of Gracie mansion in the city or something. I don't know. But in all of this excitement, he pulled probably four more congressional delegates into the GOP delegation for new Yorkers than they have had in many, many years.

"You're in a hybrid reality today, that's just not fair. So where does it stand? It is still in process. No news to make, but there's a question of fairness that I hope we can achieve sooner than later. You mentioned your cooperation with the state of New York and we saw that through the pandemic with Kathy hochul's predecessor, mister Cuomo, you'd always cooperated closely. Now it looks like she may have a tough race for herself in New York. How would that shift you think governor if in fact it's Lee zeldin rather than Kathy hochul? I don't want to speculate on what that would look like other than to say I'm a huge fan of Kathy hochul. She's in a tough race. Again, that we got 36 governors races in addition to the whole house and a third of the Senate. And this is that classic midyear midterm reality, but she's done a heck of a job and talk about a battlefield promotion. She's really impressive. We do a lot together God willing she will win this. Governor I'm going to break all the rules here and sneak in one more where do you stand on monetary COVID? COVID mandates for police firemen and medical workers. Yeah, I mean, listen, I think we've been able to thread the needle throughout the entire COVID reality and that's in the context. We're a state that was clobbered. 34,000 precious lives lost. We want to get the balance right though. I think we've always been able to strike that between public health and on the one hand and public safety on the other hand and I think we've been able to do that. Thanks to New Jersey governor Phil Murphy. Coming up, the U.S. warns ransomware attacks are outpacing the ability to stop

"Sega crime, gun policy immigration. Then you ask folks who say these are the most important issues to them, how they intend to vote. And I think this is interesting too, because look at this on all but one of these topics, Republicans have an advantage and on three of them, the economy, crime, immigration, Republicans have massive advantages over Democrats. So that's the numbers guy at NBC Steve kornacki. And what was that economy crime immigration? I feel like, I feel like that's a mantra that everybody will recall, we have been just sitting here. I think we've even done show episodes where the title was economy. Crime, immigration, economy, crime, immigration. And the GOP has done well. Presenting these as areas certainly of Democrat deficiency and they have no response to the failures that have happened on those three primary issues. It's not January 6th. It's not abortion. It's economy, crime, immigration, and clay, this is why they're not even making sense. I mean, here's Kathy hochul. We're talking about her a second ago saying, oh, she's actually the sitting governor who's the underdog in New York. We have it now. Great. My expectations in this race since the beginning. I've always said I was an underdog. And I've been in the job a short time. I have a short compressed period for people to get to know me. When you hear that as a lifelong New Yorker, when you hear a Democrat who is the incumbent saying that she is the underdog, what is your reaction? I mean, is this one of the we know Kathy hochul is not smart, but is this actually one of the dumbest things Kathy hochul has ever said? It's certainly, it certainly in that list. I think it makes the Pantheon of stupid statements and this is also though indicative of they got, they got nothing. I mean, at this point, I don't know if you've ever had this experience clay, but I have played on some sports teams in my life where you were getting beaten so badly. Oh yeah. That you just wanted to end. Like you're like, you just you just are like some of those games too, by the way. And that clock finally hits or the buzzer sounds and you get to and you get off that field as fast as possible, use whatever pretend like it never happened. Democrats are sliding into that territory with this election right now. There just want the pain to stop. I've had a lot of those speeches as a coach where you're down big at basketball at halftime. You're like, let's just wait a second half, guys. Just like, let's not even worry about the first half result. Let's just win the second half. Democrats can't even say that. I do feel like they are spiraling into absurdity every single day the longer this goes and it's just making it worse. Absolutely the case, Friends. This is a supply chain of smarts, sanity and truth. Lee Zeldin: Times Square Naked Cowboy Endorses Lee Zeldin
"I guess you were very frightened today In Clinton and Harris that must have sent shivers down your spine You think that'll have any effect Well we neutralized it because we got the endorsement of the naked cowboy in Times Square who decorated his guitar with his Zelda for governor gear and came up with an original song You know I'll tell you while he was while she was having her rally with Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris in tish James we had a rally up in the capital region with at least stefanik and a bunch of other candidates And we had ten times up at our rally We once again had another rally into the thousands There's no doubt that we have the energy and momentum over this weekend that's coming up Kathy hochul is bringing in Bill Clinton for one rally bringing in Joe Biden for another rally and I'm just sure that if she adds up the sum total of all attendees at all these rallies she still wouldn't be able to put it inside of for example that desantis rally we had last Saturday So we have the energy we have the issues We just have to make sure that everyone shows up and votes No one can stay home
Lee Zeldin: Kathy Hochul Openly Ignores Crime Issues
"You know, when you had this debate moment with your opponent, Kathy hochul, and she stood up there and spun this wild conspiracy theory that there's not really a crime problem that we're just data deniers when we're concerned about crime. You had to be thinking that she gave you a Christmas gift a few weeks early. When she says that she doesn't understand why this is so important to me. She's saying that she doesn't understand why this is so important to millions of other New Yorkers who are talking about why they want safer streets why they want to support law enforcement more, why they want district attorneys to be actually enforcing the law. They don't want to be passing pro criminal laws like cash flow up in Albany. And when she says that I'm a data denier, she's ignoring purposefully all of the many, many different areas of major crimes that have gone up year after year. And then if you look at it over the course of the last few years since cash flow has gone into effect, if you were to compare 2022 to say 2019, there are certain numbers that are even more start. So she's also alienating herself from the electorate because New Yorkers don't want to be lectured that there's nothing to see here look away. This is just perception, what they want is for governor to say that they understand what's wrong. These are their ideas to fix it and they're committed to doing absolutely everything in their power to take back our streets. And they're not getting that with Kathy hochul and she's basically telling everybody that herself. I
Poll: Lee Zeldin Ahead of Kathy Hochul for NY Governor
"The stars seem to be aligning quite nicely for the Republican Party and in fact, in the gubernatorial races, the polling is looking really good for Republicans, a new Trafalgar poll shows Lee zeldin is now ahead of Kathy hochul in this New York governor's race. That's huge news. I am so cautiously optimistic, but of course, very excited about a guy like Lee zeldin, potentially becoming New York's next governor.
NY Post: Gov. Kathy Hochul Denies Surging Crime in New York
"The front page of the New York Post today. If you're watching me on the Salem news channel, I'll hold up for you. Crazy cat. Kathy hochul says it's a GOP conspiracy to convince people that crime is rising. They got a picture of Kathy hochul with the big aluminum tinfoil hat on. You want to talk about conspiracy theories? How about Kathy hochul's assertion in her debate with Lee zeldin the other night? That we're data deniers. Those of us who are worried about rising crime in America. It's not really happening. Of course, the New York Post artfully points out by the data how the crime is surging wildly in New York and beyond.
Kathy Hochul's 'Shocking' Statement on COVID Lockdowns
"Had a debate between the God willing incoming governor of New York, my buddy Lee zeldin and the current anointed non elected governor Kathy hochul, who was asked about COVID lockdowns. Her answer, shocking, play cut. You've been an election denier, a climate change denier. You and Donald Trump were the masterful COVID deniers. We are dealing with a real crisis. And the more people get vaccinated, get those shots in arms. And I would do it all over again when I did last year that mandate for healthcare workers. So just as New York loses a case and they're told, everybody who's fired, back to work, back pay because it was illegal. Vocal is asked, would you do it again? In Hulk Hogan, lying about my body leaves out and said, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I shut down New York again. When you look at, I know the book deals with government lockdowns and power grabs. Isn't the most frightening thing just in that they're probably going to do it again. Absolutely. And that's why we're kind of using this book as a defense against these. We know that they're going to use these same tactics, whether it's for the next wave of COVID, the Knicks pandemic, or whether boogeyman they have in store probably climate change activism. And look, they're very, very pleased with the majority of the populace, the World Economic Forum just the other week was touting how compliant people were with all these measures and interventions. And they would love to see us all sharing one bike among three households eating insects and getting away from meat, right? This is their dream and to know that they could gladly weld us inside of our apartments and we might not complain is exactly what they're trying to do.

But Coleman's mind frequently flashed back to that moment just after 1 a.m. on October 19th, 1993. He had dropped out of college and was living in east Harlem, trying to make it as a rapper and selling drugs to get by. He bought a pistol. That night, Coleman tried to rob a man standing alone beneath the elevated train tracks. When the man resisted, Cohen fired three shots and fled, he didn't know if the man had lived or died. I'm going to talk <Speech_Male> to Robert about this. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> If <Speech_Male> these budget people get a <Speech_Male> bad name. But one of <Speech_Male> my sages <Speech_Male> and we held <Speech_Male> a forum at the beginning <Speech_Male> of the <Speech_Male> pandemic with the sieges of <Speech_Male> the ages besides dick <Speech_Male> and a lair. <Speech_Male> One of my sage is <Speech_Male> Steve Berger. <Speech_Male> So <Speech_Male> I'd love to give him an <Speech_Male> opportunity. I was talking to him on the <Speech_Male> way in. <Speech_Male> Did you have a question <Speech_Male> we were <SpeakerChange> you had <Silence> mentioned something to me? <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> First of all, <Speech_Male> let me tell you, <Speech_Male> it's not <Speech_Male> since you carry <Speech_Male> have we had a governor <Speech_Male> with a sense <SpeakerChange> of humor <Speech_Music_Male> and it's a breath of <Speech_Music_Male> fresh air. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Female> <Speech_Music_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> I will note that was <Speech_Female> the last Irish governor. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> And at <Speech_Male> some point, I've got <Speech_Male> stories. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I unfortunately have <Speech_Male> the budget nerd <Speech_Male> question. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> There are <Speech_Male> some of us many of us in <Speech_Male> this room <Speech_Male> for decades <Speech_Male> have been <Speech_Male> talking to the state <Speech_Male> about the state <Speech_Male> going on gap <Speech_Male> financing. <Speech_Male> And putting out <Speech_Male> their financial plan <Speech_Male> at the same time that put <Speech_Male> out <Speech_Male> the budget. I know, <Speech_Male> I know the budget <Speech_Male> division has 243 <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> reasons why they can't <Speech_Male> go on gap. <Speech_Male> But the <Speech_Male> fact of the matter <Speech_Male> is it would be not <Speech_Male> only something in <Speech_Male> terms of transparency, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> but I believe <Speech_Male> it will be a great <Speech_Male> help to you <Speech_Male> and to a governor <Speech_Male> in running <Speech_Male> the state if <Speech_Male> we could over the <Speech_Male> next period of time <Speech_Male> get to gap <Speech_Male> financing. <Speech_Male> So this is citizens <Speech_Male> budget commission, <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> that's <Speech_Female> the question for you. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> Also, if <Speech_Female> you're looking for <Speech_Female> projections in the <Speech_Female> future, we <Speech_Female> have put forth <Speech_Female> a 5 year <Speech_Female> financial plan <Speech_Female> already that's fully funded. <Speech_Female> So <Speech_Female> I think that's <Speech_Female> progress that has <Speech_Female> not happened before. <Speech_Female> And as <Speech_Female> I talked to my budget <Speech_Female> director and we talked <Speech_Female> about the <Speech_Female> same thing you're talking about, Steve. <Speech_Female> People <Speech_Female> need to know because <Speech_Female> we're talking about some <Speech_Female> very significant dollars <Speech_Female> right now. And people <Speech_Female> are saying, well, <Speech_Female> they're just going to spend it all <Speech_Female> right now. And then we're going to <Speech_Female> be in trouble in a couple of years. <Speech_Female> I need to give people the <Speech_Female> confidence <Speech_Female> and one that we know how <Speech_Female> to do this. <Speech_Female> We're going to be <Speech_Female> socially responsible <Speech_Female> and every sense of the <Speech_Female> word because we have <Speech_Female> very deep human <Speech_Female> needs right now <Speech_Female> because of the pandemic <Speech_Female> and otherwise, <Speech_Female> but also I <Speech_Female> have to make sure that <Speech_Female> this state, not just <Speech_Female> days afloat, <Speech_Female> but gives confidence <Speech_Female> to investors <Speech_Female> and the people who <Speech_Female> do bond ratings <Speech_Female> for all the communities <Speech_Female> that I was always subject to <Speech_Female> this when I was a local <Speech_Female> official, we had to go <Speech_Female> to New York City <Speech_Female> and convinced <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> everybody in the bond markets <Speech_Female> that we were <Speech_Female> a safe bet.

"We are very fortunate to get what we did out of them. And it was an extraordinary amount of money. That's going to help fund schools, healthcare, the environment, a lot of programs in the next few years. But it's going to dry up. It's going to dry up. So we can get this done. I really believe that and that money set aside, again, that comes back to my local government experience where we had to have 15% reserves every year. That was my set aside 15% because I don't know what's going to happen with the stock market. I don't know what's going to happen. It's remote work and some of the other challenges and people, some people making a wrong decision that are going to regret by leaving our state will get them back. They're going to miss the greatest comeback in our history and I'm telling everybody that we'll welcome you back. So and again, I don't know if it's going to be another variant. We're all set to start talking about reducing some of the restrictions. With this New York City, we had about a 1% infection rate throughout the fall. November 26th, we had our it was first declared a variant overseas named by the World Health Organization and all of a sudden I think it was December 3rd, we had our first case here in New York, and we were crushed. 23% infection rate, three and a half weeks ago. Now we're down to about four or 5%. So I don't think it's going to happen, but we have to be ready for that. Hundred.

"216 billion. That's the size of the New York State fiscal year 2023 budget proposed by governor Kathy hochul, who was sworn in as New York's 57th governor on August 24th, 2021. Governor huckel's first budget proposal, which was unveiled on January 18th. Comes as the city's fiscal outlook continues to improve with tax receipts repeatedly exceeding expectations and extraordinary influx of federal aid and even more money from last year's personal income and corporate tax increases..

"Thirty percent golden rule. That's generally when minority groups hit thirty percent. They really start to have influence in power in a larger group. So it's a slow and steady progress What has changed is that a larger percentage of those figures are women of color for instance thirty seven percent of the twenty three percent of women mayors in the. Us are women of color. So that's real progress on that end You can take some cities as an example in new york city for the first time the city council is going to be when all of the newly elected are sworn in in january of twenty twenty two. It's going to be women majority. And this is after a number of years where women's representation in new york city council really was stuck at nine ten eleven twelve women out of fifty one. So what do you see. Some of the barriers to having more women elective office. You know it is a pipeline issue. We have to think about why politics isn't always attracted not just to women but two men as well. It's a tough decision to make. It's a tough road and as an industry as ruthless. You think about what you have to do. You have to ask all your friends for money. It's a six. Am to eleven pm job when you're running for office when you get into office you've got to turn around and do that again in a matter of you know with thirteen months. You've got to start planning your next campaign for many positions from state legislatures to congress at a lot of people do not win on the first try so there are things that we can talk about changing about elected office. That would make it more attractive for people because there are a lot of really talented people who would make exceptional legislators who aren't going to do it because the was just isn't worth it. So what are some of those things that we can do to increase accessibility. One of the biggest changes that we could make and it's one that new york city has implemented is campaign finance reform and many other countries do this. Every candidate has the same amount of money. You're not raising outside money. It's an equal playing field. The public gets to know candidate through the public access of television and the airways. That would be a much more attractive. Way of running and a more democratic way of running elections. Is it working perfectly here in new york city doe not yet but if we can create a level playing field for all candidates that would really diversify the pool of candidates that we now have and let me give you an example here new york. Luebbe gra shirley ran for congress on long island and she had two small kids and she did something that had never done before she petitioned the federal election commission to add childcare costs as an allowable expense of campaign fun she became the first person in history to receive federal approval to spend campaign buttons on childcare and since then many people have not just mothers and fathers as well. I mean that is something that i had never heard about before. This mom of two decided she wanted to take a chance to run and got in it and realize the biggest barrier for her was childcare. You say to yourself gosh. If women would have been in politics in larger numbers for more years this would have come up in the past and we would have had this already as a rule established long ago.

"There is value in giving reporters equal access and equal opportunity. Not just women too but non white reporters you know the political coverage. Hansa come from people who are white you know. There's very few black with tino. Asian reporters that cover the governor cover politics. In general there is ethnic media all over the state that haven't been given the same level of access either and that's something to be mindful of new york is a hub for immigrants. They're just as invested in the future of the state as someone who was born here with the swearing in of kathy hotel. The us tied its record for the most active female governors at one time a whopping nine fifty but still mogul has pierce past and present who stories. She can look to as she navigates her first few months among the nice jeans swift who was the first female governor of massachusetts from two thousand one to two thousand three now swift and ho- come from different sides of the political aisle local democrats whipped republican but their paths to the governorship have their similarities. Swift was lieutenant governor. When then governor paul saloojee was appointed. Us ambassador to canada by them. President george w bush during her tenure swift would guide massachusetts through the fiscal crisis that followed nine eleven and became the first acting. Us governor to give birth while in office. I recently spoke with swift about her experience. As governor in any advice she might have for locals term. Clearly we both became governor with the departure of a governor. I think the difference is that governor saloojee departed under his own terms and was happy to move onto a new professional challenge. And that creates you know. I think some challenges. When i became governor as folks were not always happy and that he had left and he left a very high functioning team. Think it may be easier for governor local to take over as many folks believe there was a need for a transition of power in new york and because some of.

"Can help now is vice. Step aside and let government get back to governing officially become the fifty seventh governor of the state of the art. She had a ton of work ahead of her. We discussed the saga that led to. New york's first female governor and what's in store for kathy hokuto. It's all coming up on fifty one percent. I was like one of those girls is seen in the movie. Polos repect then my sunglasses on without c. And alita did really. You're listening to fifty one percent a w. amc production dedicated to women's issues and experiences. Thank you for joining jesse king. We're talking women in politics today. Obviously kamala harris made headlines earlier this year of becoming the country's first vice president but this kind of history is still being made at the state level on august. Twenty fourth kathy. "You've been thinking about here. As she ascends we assume Still needs to be made official official but as she ascends to be the fifty seventh governor the first woman to hold the role. Any other things. You've been thinking about that That folk should know just watching her for many years now. She just seems to be always progressing. She seems to be Making you know she good accomplishments in any role that she has embraced Throughout her political career she seems to learn every time that she does game one of these higher offices. And if you just look at her six plus years now as lieutenant governor and all the context she's made all of the friends that she's made Without making a heck of a lot of waves she just seems to always rise to the occasion in each of these Positions that she's held. Now we're talking about the governor of a major state like new york now so she will be faced with many challenges and i'm sure that she will have her Share of setbacks and and that's only beginning. There's no question about that. But she just does seem to be able to to handle this as she goes along and i think she will be very interesting person to watch as she goes along because now she's really going to be in not only the Statewide spotlight but we we've got. We've got all kinds of national attention focusing on kathy. Oh right now too. So she's going to be really interesting to watch. Well bob mccarthy of the buffalo news appreciate your perspective really glad you could join us today. And and i've always enjoyed reading you and others at the buffalo news and now more more important than ever those following new york state politics. So thank you for your work and for taking the time here today. You got it great to be with six. Thanks that was bob. Mccarthy of the buffalo news and anna grunwald of political new york both of whom have been covering both governor andrew. Cuomo and lieutenant governor. Kathy o'connell quite closely for a number of years sharing some perspective on especially lieutenant governor. Hoke will end her likely presumed ascension to become the next governor in less than two weeks. Now after governor andrew cuomo announced his plans to resign yesterday for two weeks from now. Bear are so many aspects of this shifts. That will be interesting to watch interesting to track just to build off of a couple of things that were mentioned that conversation. I was fortunate enough to be the moderator for the loan. Democratic primary debate for lieutenant governor in twenty eight team between germany williams and catechal. You can find. The video of that. Debate was just thirty minutes long but very interesting at a lot to it You can find that video at the gotham. Visit website If you if you google for gotham gazette. Lieutenant governor debate monty williams kathy from twenty eighteen and kathy hokey was. They're very poised despite a lot of Attacks during that campaign from giamatti williams and of course the sort of new york left that was supporting williams. Cynthia nixon for governor and hokuto was was poised. She was there very much as a representative of the cuomo administration even though she had to win her primary separately before joining the governor on the ticket for the general election..

"Political operation and her preparation to run a gubernatorial administration What do you make of of the step. She's been taking both on the political side and the governmental side here as she runs a transition. You know. I don't think that anyone even gabby ogle could've expected this but i think even as early as earlier this year when these allegations first came out. If you're the governor's staff you are immediately gaming out what happens not and there has been so much uncertainty over these past few months about what moves would be made. But i think there's been quite a bit of effort of course in the background of course Of course with caveats like quite a bit of efforts to shore up what will happen next. How would that just all play out. Who from the former administration might be someone who can help us transition through things who are people who we cannot have. Help us. And i think that I'm sure everyone's rattled at does seem even in the press conference. Today we saw very different tone a lot of trying things out from which which reporters either now questions would be asked But it does seem like there is a plan moving forward on. It does seem like they're fairly confident that something must they will be able to pull off not only because i and plans for it but because like she mentioned today she does have this point on extremely strong network of local leaders state leaders national leaders and i think that they're probably a lot of people offering to help and i don't think that that's something that she or her staff would be turning out of point. Bob you've written that copy. Okla seems very prepared to for this transition. And that she might usher in a new era of politics in new york. Can you Can you explain those those points that you wrote about and encourage listeners. Of course to read which what you've written but What what your what your sentiment of that preparation and And what kind of new era of politics. She might bring her talk a little bit about that in her. Initial briefing promising transparency. Promising that no one will talk about her. Administration is toxic one. What's your sense of that preparation and how she might ask in this new era politics. I mean there's a. There's a headline on the front page of our paper today. That says buffalo's kathy. Hokkaido is a politician leads with charm. Not fear and i think that the media stark contrast. that's also the words used in another Front page headline today in our paper We'll manifest itself quite quickly that I think those who we have talked to to kind of get to the root of kathy khokhlov over the past few days will will tell you that when she enters a room. She usually leaves by making a lot of friends that people like her. I have always said that. She is one of the best retail politicians. That i've ever observed in her ability to enter into a senior center or a bingo game or a rotary club meeting or even the economic development council meetings that she would over as lieutenant governor. She would walk in there and leave with a lot of friends because people like her and so i'm not. I don't know if how likable andrew cuomo has been but kathy has a much better ability to win people over in santa pointed out..
