"Want to describe the castle. You can't do a much better job. I don't you. Will you know her. So many years i heard about it and it it's in legends and stories to everyone's heard of it. It was just such an extraordinary experience to be there. you know. well it's not the kind of castle like a cinderella fairy tale castles. You'll find all over ireland. It's one of those square. Norman towers and with practically no windows and they were built by the normans as fortresses to be able to keep a stave off any invaders that might want to take over. And so you go inside and And you guys went walked ahead. It's about a good block that you walk on the grassy state And you can even go right into the castle or left into their gardens and We stayed behind for about a half hour with the fellow from that work there and when we were done we packed up our recording equipment and we were walking along and just as we got to the castle. The two of you came out and sister. Catherine was holding a brown paper bag hands like nine by twelve inch paper bag waving in the air saying i kissed the blarney stone i kissed the blarney stone so you were there. Can you explain what happened between. I'm not kissing the blarney stone. And i kissed the blarney stone. I i think she got I think she realized i have to do it. I have to do. i must do it. I'm in ireland. i've probably won't be back. This is i can't return from ireland and say no. I didn't kiss it sh- and she we just quitely talk to her and then she said well i'll try it and when she finished she was walking on air. As you said. I and i remember pulling that out and showing it to you i just line is shown i kissed the blarney stone and i understand that. She had two things as i recall. She got to see other people doing it and she saw this could be done without without losing your modesty with somebody looking up your skirt and she also got great encouragement and instruction from fellow. That worked there. Who you know you. Just don't go up and kiss it and walk away. There's somebody there that assist in that process. And i'm sure that guy has had busloads of nuns before by so he was quite conversant. I dunno it just reminds me of the taxi driver in washington. Dc the ever do a trade show or stand at an exhibit at a fair explaining things to somebody. If you stay in long enough at the table or booth of your where you're supposed to be the lower part of your back but comes a completely numb band about six inches wide across the whole of your back. Everyone in my audience that's ever done. A trade show knows exactly what i'm talking about and i was in washington. Dc doing show with the international franchise association. And we just left the show and i felt paralyzed literally. The my lower back was killing me and we called the taxi. You stopped and i went to get in and there was no way i was getting in the taxi. So anybody's ever experienced back. Pain knows getting in and out of a car is There's a technique and a talent for it. But i didn't know what it was because this never happened to me before and the taxi driver showed me what to do so while we're on that subject if it ever happens to you turnaround as so that. Your back is facing the seats in the car. Then bend your knees until your head bend your knees bend your head bump it your head will clear the doorway and then just push yourself backwards and you're in and then we drove to A pharmacy and got me pills to relief of pain but it was a taxi driver from all his experience when people with back pain. Who are traveling Who taught me how to do this. And it was the fellow at the top of pointy castle at all his experience who is able to instruct sister catherine out to safely and modestly kissed the blarney stone and she was so proud and was so happy to have a photo of it to take home. I mean that was hot. Yes she was yes she was and she still has that in her room house home. Very sweet i remember. We all had a good laugh about that. Not at not at her expense. Never i never knew she had to do it. We know about that until it turned around and she actually did it. That was the only negative commentary that came from sister catherine that entire trip. I mean you wanna talk the most positive just optimistic. Wonderful wonderful woman. I hope when you do speak with her you give her very best. Where did take a quick break. I'll be right back We've had katherine jarvis kathleen jarvis talking with us about her trip to ireland and when we do come back i want you to be thinking about places in ireland that you think my audience or put on their list of must visit places And maybe we could talk about knock shrine a bit more because I don't think many people even think about knock shrine and that's part of ireland. That whole galway mayo. Donegal stretch is exquisite. It's my favourite part of ireland. So we and you know what a tough stretch. It is for me to come up with favorite parts. But when i buy my castle by the sea and my we cottage by the sea in ireland they will be either in clare county clare county. Galway county mayo or county donegal. That whole stretch is.

"With Stephanie Abrams on the line with me is Kathleen Jarvis. She lives in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She has been a volunteer. At the monastery at Fort Smith ST Scholastica for many, many years, probably decades now. Um She Committed ourselves to helping None she befriended. Sister, Catherine Marquis. Oh, is still living at the monastery and Fort Smith, Arkansas toe help her connect with her Irish roots. And sister Catherine was approaching 80 years old. Of all the places that we sorted out. For you to visit before we joined you on the fourth day of your journey through Ireland. On for the rest of that trip that we spent together. What are the things that come to mind? Maybe you can list them and then we can delve into them a little better. Well, what are the things that stand out beyond the amazing people? Which we need to talk about in Ireland. Um Of the places that we visited the experiences we had. Well, I cash it. Actually, you've given me a hard job. I I would have to say that not Woz way up there on top of the list E visiting of in County Mayo, the knots trying to marry in trying, which is, by the way, I read that it's visited by A million and a half people every year. Um and I would have to say the I think it was called the famine ship. That that Brody Right gun, Probably famine ship in County Wexford again, please. What was that again? It's in county, Wexford County. Wexford is the Easter, Southeastern County and Ireland. And when you travel westward from Wexford The next county that abuts it is Waterford and most people know what effort because of Waterford Crystal because of what it for castle and also because Woodford is the place historically. That the beast Oliver Cromwell. Who? Somebody I can't believe it. Megan Megan McCain, Um, commented on something a few weeks back, and she pointed to Oliver Cromwell is a source. I don't know why in the world she would bring up that awful man's name. Hey, was miserable to the Irish. And, um, miserable all around and responsible for, um, killing the king of England. Ending the idea of that the King is descended from God. You can't kill the king. Even in chess. You just not come over, but you can't kill him. But in Waterford, he's the one Oliver Cromwell, who wanted Waterford because there's such a strong pork. And he told his soldiers you go in there and you take Waterford for May. And really, I don't care how you get it. You can come in from Crook's head. Or from hook. So you get it by hook or by crook. Which of the two places look on the map of the south of Ireland on the Atlantic Coast line, and you will see the places of of crooks head and hook and we have taken that in our language as get it by any means. When we say you get it, by hook or by crook. It leads back to an Irish story is not amazing. But that's all just to the west of County Wexford. It's amazing how much you know of Irish history. Well, us that favorite spots I have to tell you. Another outstanding place was Trinity College. You know, of course, the sister. Katherine for so many years had been the arc of this that at ST Scholastica, she's she is a true intellectual. Let me tell you, she was in her glory at Trinity in her glory. Uh, Sure you could tell us all about Trinity color? Well, the interesting thing about Trinity College in Dublin is that when you.

In 2000 and eight When my husband and I flew to Ireland to make sure a trip That the Stephanie Abrams travel fairy godmother had planned. For Kathleen Jarvis, who worked diligently. To get sister Catherine Marquis to Ireland. Place she wanted to commune with her ancestors and her family history as she was approaching her 80th birthday. And 60 years as a nun. 30 of them at that point in this 13 years ago, so now be 43. Years ago, she became a Benedictine nun. Prior to that 30 years, she was a nun in another order. And she was the archivist at the monastery in Fort Smith, Arkansas. And when it turned out that the Car and driver I had arranged to show for them about for 11 Days and 10 nights. And while I got hit with that news on the 30th of August, and they were departing on September 6 What is that a week away? I was flabbergasted. I know what I was going to do, especially because we were going to be in Mexico from the sixth of September to the eighth of September. They would need somebody to deal with there. Driving needs really from the 10th of September. But I sorted out. Somebody getting them from Galway to knock. We're not trying is in county Mayo for the 10th. And then they were gonna be Perusing the grounds of Not shrine and visiting the little town there. They didn't need a car that day. And we just surprised them on the 11th and showed up at the recommendation of my senior producer, David Isby, because when I looked astonished as the Oh my God, What am I going to do? Where we're going to find a suitable driver. To drive them around. And David looked at me like I don't know why you didn't think of this, but Why don't you fly over and do it? E. Just wild Deer urine, said I could do that. So we flew on the 10th. No. The ninth Wrong. The We have the ninth we flew From New York. Or new work. I'm not sure it was JFK or no work. We flew the eighth from Mexico City. Two. New York airport. I don't know. We overnighted at the airport in the ninth. We flew to Ireland. When you fly to Ireland. You fly in the evening. So when you land it's morning even though it's five hours later. So we landed on the 10th. We overnighted and go away. And on the morning of September 11th 2008. We drove to Knock.
