"Are not alike. So it's interesting. I don't think Michigan's going to abandon who they are, right? We've heard in pressers this week, Haskins has come out and said like, hey, we're going to be who we are. And I don't know if I understand you have a month off, right? So you can make some adjustments. You can throw in some wrinkles. You can do some different things. And provide different elements that haven't been on film yet, but at its core, Michigan's going to rely on its own line. It's going to rely on its run game. It's not going to put a ton on Kate McNamara's plate, and ultimately I think that's what this comes down to. It's like Michigan due to Georgia, what they've done to other defensive lines. And play some bully ball. I like Michigan's offensive line. But you hit it perfectly in that it didn't really work against Wisconsin's defense of front. I know people will probably go and see the score now, as I say that and they're like, oh, one on the road by three scores. The reality is if you look at it, Haskins quorum and Edwards, average 2.7 a carry on 35 carries combined. And what was shocking to me and digging into this game was Michigan's O line 68th an opportunity rate for as good as the run game has been, and that's basically a metric that measures the amount of times a run play gains at least four yards when the line creates four yards of space. Stunning to see them below average. That's obviously pretty important when we're talking about a Michigan offense that runs on 61% of early downs. That's who they are. So even if they decided to be like, hey, we're going to open this up a little bit more. Probably not going to be a ton of passing, you know? And then you have this Georgia defense that we know 8th in schedule adjusted EPA per rush allow. In total, less than 29% of runs against George of great successful. If you look prior to the Alabama game, George's defense was given up 0.36 non garbage time points per drive. Georgia gave up 8 regular season touchdowns this year. Even in that game against Alabama, trace Sanders and Brian Robinson junior did nothing on the ground. It was Bryce young's legs that made the rushing numbers respectable. I believe it was like 1.4 EPA per rush for Bryce young. The other two running backs were negative UPA per rush. And then if you look at the success Michigan's had running the ball recently, it's tons of inside zone. It's very difficult to run inside against Georgia and Jordan Davis, right? And you also have great run defenders and jaylen Carter and devonte Wyatt. The way Alabama was able to be Georgia. It's like having a Heisman quarterback in a potential number one pick in 2023 throwing to a first round receiver and Jameson Williams and push and pull down veal. Gabe Mary isn't that guy in Michigan doesn't really have that kind of weaponry outside once Belle went down. And this is really interesting to me and it kind of gages some of the receiver talent. And I'm sure there's some young guys like Michigan and we're recruiting better. I'm sure you are, but like the young guys aren't quite there yet. To impact a game like this and you can tell by this number, Michigan's receivers have only caught 35% of their contested catches. As many question marks, if we have about Georgia's receivers, 62% catch rate. It's not a very good pass catching offense right now. It's very bleak in its current state. I think if you're Josh gaddis. JJ McCarthy time, baby. That's what Michigan's gotta lean on in this game. A little trickery and such. Yes, yeah, you're probably right. You know, I think if you're Michigan and you're Josh gaddis, like you're kind of throwing on the tape and you're seeing that in addition to a couple deep shots and making young corners kind of play on islands, Alabama was able to attack the slot. In Georgia secondary, right? 16.8 yards allowed perception on ten catches with a touchdown. I don't know what happened. Maybe it was disciplinary, but latavius Brittany, who plays the star position in Georgia's defense and has an 82 coverage grade, the best of any player in Georgia secondary, was benched for the Alabama game. Didn't record a single snap. No reasons were given other than Bernie was a healthy scratch. His replacement, William Poole was targeted ten times. Bryce young had a one 41 passer rating when targeting pool. 8 of those ten targets were caught, including one for a touchdown. So your guess is as good as mine, if Brittany is maybe injured, maybe if he's in the doghouse, I don't know, but it obviously be good if he blamed this game because he plays the star position and he's one of the best coverage guys defending the slot. If he's in there, based upon his productivity this year, that's probably not an attackable area, although it appears to be one if you watched film from the last game. Let's see if Bernie's in the doghouse. Chris Smith, another key cog in Georgia secondary, hadn't played since the Tennessee game because of a knee injury. He returned against bam at far less than a 100%. He's now going to have another four weeks to rehab his knee. Let's see if that helps. But as I see this, right? Unless Michigan's able to like shock us all and bully Georgia's front, probably going to need Donovan Edwards to be a factor catching balls out of the backfield. Maybe you even do line them up.

"Combined to give up an average of two and a half pressures per game. That's it about one a man. So if that matchup becomes a stalemate for Hutchinson and a job, then what? What is Michigan do defensively at that point? Now here's the dilemma for me. If the game were played on a neutral last week, we have an Ohio State -7 and a half, that's our number. The line as we're recording this just shot up to 8 and a half and it's at Michigan. The one thing that's likely going to keep me off Michigan Todd is and who knows where this line goes. My guess is this might have a chance just again based upon this being Thanksgiving week in the public out in full force. There's a chance that this flirts potentially with ten and it would be tough not to value at Michigan at this point. I won't be able to do it. But, you know, what's going to keep me off is if you kind of go back to what we discussed early in the season. When Ohio State wasn't looking great, I said, listen, you have a 5 star freshman quarterback. What Ohio State is now won't be what they are in a couple months because you have a player in CJ Stroud at the most important position getting better every week. The level Ohio State and play do improves each week and it feels like you find a new level of peak. And so that's what would concern me thinking that there's value in Michigan because CJ Stroud and Ohio State could find another level of peak that is not factored into this number. Can Michigan do enough to run the ball and play keep away? With Hassan Haskins, we know Blake coram trending up, but still no clear definitive answer if he's going to be available. Does that become Michigan's key to success, just putting together four or 5 minute drives if they're able to do so and keeping that buckeyes, offense on the sidelines and not a rhythm? That's the hope, right? But can you do it? Because that's obviously going to be the focus of Ohio State's defense. And they are starting to trend a little bit better in the trenches as well. A lot of young guys, especially at linebacker, we saw that was the way you could beat them early in the season when Minnesota kind of mold them. And that's got to be the blueprint for Michigan here. But at some point, Kate McNamara, he's going to have to make some throws on the secondary. Oh, and I think you'll know pretty quickly. If they're able to get the ground game going and Kate McNamara, I'm able to pick up some timely third downs. Hit the hit the big explosive off of play action. There's just not a ton of weapons outside for Michigan, right when bell went down early in the season. That was one of the things that we outlined. We're like, hey, who are the weapons now outside? So if you don't have the outside weapons to threaten deep because I do think I do think Ohio State still a little bit vulnerable in the back end. Now all of a sudden you can kind of clog the box. And that changes things. The game plan here is going to be Kate McNamara beat me with. That's the idea here, I think, for Ohio State defensely. And I thought they showed pretty well early on in the game when walker was trying to get established. Now obviously the game script negated walker having a huge role because it's blow out city. But I think they can probably do enough to negate. That now Michigan comes out and is able to run the ball? Then it becomes a little bit different of a story, but you're going to need cade McNamara in this game to do things that pay in thorn could not. That's extend drives because there are going to be that third and fourth, third and 5. He's going to have to be able to pick those up. And you are at some point going to have to hit an explosive, and I'm not sure Michigan has the guys outside to do that. Yeah, we haven't seen a ton of that. Kate has been efficient when called upon. We've seen Michigan throw the football a little bit more, but this is a different step up in class. And as we've seen all the time, methodical is great in theory until Ohio State is able to get one stop, suddenly you're chasing a two score deficit and you just don't have the horses to keep up with the thoroughbreds there. So we'll see what Michigan can try and put forth here. We know Jim Harbaugh's success is hinged on a ground game in his career at Michigan 29 and oh, when the team runs for 200 plus yards, not quite sure that's going to be in the cards this weekend when they welcome in the scarlet gray, knowing whoever comes out of their victorious will control their own destiny in terms of getting to the college football playoff with the Big Ten championship looming most likely against Wisconsin. From the Midwest out to the West Coast and the Civil War between Oregon state and Oregon has the ducks, a 7 and a half point favorite at FanDuel sports book total on the game sits at 60 and a half. The beaver's last win in Eugene, while it came way back when in 2007, December 1st, it was the first bowl game under Jonathan Smith has already been clinched for this beavers team. So clearly, progress, they're headed in the right direction. The beavers would need Washington to be Washington state to control their own destiny in the PAC 12 north. And when you look at since the PAC 12 divided into the north and south, OSU hasn't even had a piece of the conference title since 2000. So that's the one thing that you see running through all of the reading leading up to this game. But pain, we've talked about Oregon, a great length. I think rubber finally met the road where they ran into an absolute buzzsaw last weekend against the Utah team that we more or less saw coming. At the same time, Oregon state, the biggest question mark for them defensively, do they have enough in the trenches to keep Oregon from establishing the ground game because as the clip you tweeted out and we highlighted Saturday morning if you can make Oregon one dimensional and take away the run, I don't think Anthony Brown or his ability to throw the football scares anyone. Yeah, it's wild because I don't think this is going to feel like a PAC 12 game. And I think you could say the same thing on both sides of the ball that it's going to come down to which team cares, which team wants to be there, which team plays more physically. Both teams want to run the ball. That's their offensive identity. Anthony Brown, we know is a game manager at best we saw that unfold again against you tossed 74th. An EPA per play for Anthony Brown. Chance Nolan has been a pleasant surprise 32nd EPA per plays kind of been like the winning lottery ticket for Jonathan Smith. He was the third quarterback on the depth chart heading into fall camp for Oregon states..

"Seconds and to put that in perspective. That goes from a below average time to throw the ball to one of the fastest in the country. And so they didn't take those deep shots. They were comfortable kind of picking 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 yards a pop, letting the receivers operate. And so now when Sparta's attempting to kind of game plan for Ohio State's offense, what are they hiring for? The deeper passing offense Stroud holds it and pushed it downfield or the quick pass attack. Either way, Ohio State is going to have success through the air here. And for me, this is one of the larger mismatches in a big game this week. Michigan state does not do a great job getting pressure up front. So it can leave sport exposed on the outside. Sparty kind of plays off coverage. They're 58th in PFF's coverage grade. They like to play, they don't necessarily have the horses to play man and get in your face. They are susceptible to the quick pass that we saw Ohio State execute last week against perdue. You know, I don't see a ton of talent in the back. Now you get an Ohio State offense, and you're looking at this even though they had that little two game struggle. It's a freshman quarterback. You're going to go through some lulls in his first season. But there's still number one in the country and passing success rate. Going up against the defense outside the top 60 in both passing success rate and EPA per pass loud. And the kicker, Sparta's played a really weak schedule of passing offenses. I mean, you have Indiana on the schedule, Rutgers, northwestern, all are outside the top 100 and EPA per pass. You faced a less than 100% Derek king and he went for 388 yards perdue, who's a top 30 in EPA per passion, lost to by double digits 8, O'Connell probably had his best game as a college quarterback when you consider the circumstance. He posted a positive 0.72 EPA per pass in that upset. Western Kentucky. The other passing offense with the pulse on the schedule home 31 points in a 53% success rate overall in that game. So any of the better passing offenses that face this year has done quite well. You also have to monitor some injuries for Michigan state. Charles Brantley who moved into the starting corner roll missed the Maryland game a great outs party's best cover corner. Simeon borrow the big fell on the interior line for sparty far and away their best interior alignment did not play at Maryland, all signs here. Are pointing to Ohio State doing what they want on offense. I look at this number Todd. And tells you all you need to know, it does and we said that in the Penn State game. And you kept me off Ohio State there because you're like, hey, something Penn State's doing is really giving them success against Ohio State the last few years and you were spot on there. But this is a little bit different. Not only is the line a touch short because this perception of Michigan state, but the matchup isn't very good either. I know Mel Tucker doesn't want to get into a shootout, but it feels like he's going to need a shoot out to stay within this. He's going to need a bad performance from Ohio State's defense to stay within this number because they're not going to get stops defensively. And so when I look at this line of 19 immediately, I'm looking at our number and we're at like 21.2, which is just the core number. It doesn't factor in the good matchup. It doesn't factor in some of the injuries that we've mentioned so you could probably tick it up a couple more notches than that. And listen, I think the story of party has been awesome this year. And I like Mel Tucker, great recruiter. And I didn't want to say anything at the time because I prefer not getting crushed on social media from fans and biased homers. But when the playoff committee had Michigan state at three, we have them power rated just barely inside the top 25. So the reality in the perception of what Michigan state is to the outside world is just vastly different than what pro betters think of them. A couple other things too, but before we close the book on this game, when you look at Ohio State last week, I know Purdue is a very public underdog. If I hear the term spoiler makers from any of our colleagues again, I'm going to lose my mind because as soon as a cliche catches on like that, you know what team's going to get boat raced. 59 31 on the scoreboard wasn't nearly as indicative as how dominant Ohio State was. And that performance against perdue. And you talked about all the Michigan state past defense concerns and numbers. All we have to do is look at the schedule of opponents that Michigan has played. Kate McNamara through for almost 400 yards against Michigan state. Kate McNamara hasn't thrown for more than 255 yards this season against anybody, and he was able to move the ball with ease against this Michigan state secondary. I think Ryan day will be ready to go, and you're gonna see Ohio State put on an absolute show. So buyer beware should you want to make you enjoy the same handler there? You know, I mean, JJ McCarthy gets more reps than I do. So everyone's just throwing Kate McNamara under the bus this year. Kate's going out there..

"Increased substantially. Metrically, I think perdue looks great against the past top 15 in passing EPA and passing success rate loud. But I don't see individually a really good cover corner on the roster, so schematically produce going to have to slow down Jaden Reed. I'm also a little worried with the passing offenses perdue is played. You're looking at UConn, Notre-Dame, Illinois, Iowa Wisconsin, 5 offenses with an average EPA per pass rank of a 107th, but I think if perdue can slow down walker and thorn kind of continues this downtrend Purdue can absolutely put a little scare into Sparta here. You know, when you look at this boiler steam, you're right, it's interesting because last weekend, clearly the final score misleading 28 23 a game they trailed going into the break. And took advantage of an opportunistic defense. We've seen the boiler struggle to handle physically imposing ground games already this season and losses against Minnesota and Wisconsin. For perdue, some of their success or if they're going to have some on the other side of the ball, obviously hinges on 8 O'Connell's ability to serve as a distributor more than anything else. We know that there are a ton of playmakers wearing black and gold, especially in the ground game now that they've lost one of their starting running backs, king daru more of a plotter than anything else. And I don't want to oversimplify the matchup when you look at Michigan state that has more questions in my opinion than answers on the defensive side of the ball. Will the Spartans have enough in their secondary to slow down the bell cow to speak for Purdue? And of course, David bell, the game breaking wide receiver. It's interesting because you know, we watched that game last week and we were kind of texting back and forth and we were on the phone as we watched, because we were doing some contest stuff. But the one thing that I noticed with why sporty secondary was a little susceptible to the past and Kate McNamara, I thought played fantastic. In horrible kind of crush is confidence. But you saw defense that was absolutely selling out to stop the run. And so it left them a little bit vulnerable in the back. And I don't know if Purdue has that ground game. To force them to be exposed in the back this week. And that's, I think the interesting kind of dichotomy week to week between the two offenses that they're going to play. Now, I think Aidan O'Connell, you mentioned him. He's the other ingredient for beating Michigan state and you don't know what you're going to get. Do you get the Iowa in Nebraska version of 8 O'Connell or the turnover machine against Wisconsin and Notre-Dame? That, I think, probably is the big question. I know Michigan state's defensive line isn't the most stout, but Peru doesn't really have a ground game to speak of. And the O line is been really poor. And that's as nice as you can put it. The O line a 124th in line yards, a 120th. An opportunity rate over 24% of produce runs have been stuffed at or behind the line of scrimmage. All set a 124th and rushing EPA. So you're going into this handicap saying any efficiency Purdue has on the ground is really a bonus. And you really have to project a one dimensional offense with a O'Connell just chucking. And you know, it's a decent passing offense. Produce been around the national average and throwing efficiency 51st and passing success rate 62nd, an EPA per pass. The secondary is kind of where sporty seems vulnerable on defense. But you mentioned David bell, the guy's an absolute horse, but it can't be just him, right? Defenses are keying on him. Michigan state obviously will too. He's been good enough to be the focal point of defenses and still beat them when the competition hasn't been great. Wisconsin basically removed him. But perdue needs guys like right and Sheffield to step up and there was an interesting contribution last week from Jackson anthrop, who is a 6th year guy. They basically used him at running back. They used him in the slot. They used him in the run game and on special teams he had 11 touches. So we'll see if that kind of continues this week. It'll be interesting to see if that versatility kind of helps with perdue's offense. The other key here is finishing drives. When you're one dimensional and space starts to shrink not being able to run, it becomes a problem. And that's where Sparta's defense has been outstanding this year. It's why they're undefeated, despite like the wind probability charts indicating they're more of like a two loss team at this point. Parties beatable in the middle part of the field, but they're 8th and points allowed per trip inside the 40 and their 5th in gold the goal touchdown rate allowed. So somehow Purdue when they drive it has to get touched down here to pull off this upset, put the metrics would indicate because they can't run it, they're probably not going to have great success once they get inside the red and green zones punching in for touchdowns. But we'll see that's why they play the games and parties obviously do for some regression in that area. But that's what it's going to take, right? You're going to need a day for made in O'Connell. You're going to need just enough ground punch and you're going to need to be able to defensively stop Kenneth walker. Line certainly says produce the side here though, right?.
"kate mcnamara" Discussed on The Audible with Feldman And Mandel
"To a Halloween edition of the audible presented by Trader Joe's. I am Stewart mandel joined by Bruce Feldman and Bruce. For all the hype leading into that Michigan Michigan state game, isn't it great when a game like that lives up to if not exceeds the hype? Michigan state 37 Michigan 33 Spartans come back from a 30 to 14 deficit and move to 8, no, your thoughts on that I will call it an instant classic. Yeah, tremendous game. It was one of those games where I don't know about you, but I'm in the studio on the 5th floor and I'm like, the pregame atmosphere was I don't know. It just felt like Big Ten football, right? You know, the weather wasn't like. It wasn't like a hot day. It was you just had two really physical teams. I feel like you had two teams that definitely want to run the football and then at the end of the day, you know what? Credit to Mel Tucker, the thing that jumps out at me about him and his teams and I saw this at CU being around them in that one year, he was there was the resolve that they have. Like, I feel like when they are down, you just, you know, that's the team where it feels like they are really hard to put away. And they keep battling and they keep battling and they were down 30 22 and you could just kind of feel like, man, the way this is shape and up, this is the kind of game that he is going to win. And look, you know, you and I talked about this a little bit offline. This has not been so far like a wow season for Heisman guys. Kenneth walker the third, the transfer from wake forests who was kind of a nonentity as a recruit. To me, right now, he's the top of the Heisman board because he was spectacular yesterday, 5 rushing touchdowns, almost 200 yards on the ground, pretty amazing show he has put on him. Well, I'm glad people are finally catching up. I've had him number one of my Heisman straw poll ballot for weeks, but obviously this was his showcase game. I know people have referred to it as a Heisman moment. 5 touchdowns two, including two long touchdowns in the fourth quarter as they took the lead. The thing is, Michigan dominated the first half. And probably should have had a bigger lead than they did, but even at 30 to 14, it just felt like, okay, it's Michigan's day. And what's interesting is, normally, for a team to come back from that kind of deficit, what, 9 times out of ten, a game like that mount a furious rallies because the quarterback throws for 400 yards. This was the Kenneth walker. In fact, I was actually at times wondering why they weren't giving him the ball more because the Michigan's pass rush is tremendous, and they couldn't protect Payton thorn. But Kenneth walker give them the ball enough times he's gonna break one or 5 in this case. I also give a lot of credit to Jay Johnson, Michigan state's offensive coordinator, a very aggressive play caller, the play of the game to me, it didn't necessarily determine the outcome. It was when they went for it on fourth and one. And when they didn't hand the ball to walker on fourth and one, I kind of cringe. Like, oh my gosh, you guys are getting too cute. 50 yard pass play on fourth and one. That to me would kind of define the whole mentality that Mel Tucker's team has. I don't think Michigan played poorly at all. That fumble, though, when they brought in JJ McCarthy and they fumbled the mesh play, obviously, set it up for Michigan state to take the lead. Yeah, I think there was you mentioned early on where it felt like they were dominating the game. There was a play. It's like a third and 6 or third and 7. There's a pass to Blake coram. And he drops it if he catches it, it's probably a touchdown. And I don't know if that's a backbreaker at that point, but it just like, as you said, with a team that is and they do have good receivers, but as you mentioned, Aden Hutchinson's a dominant edge Russian David a jabo on the other side was making big plays. He had the one critical where it's the sack fumble touchdown that ends up getting overturned. You could feel kind of a little bit of the momentum of Michigan maybe kind of that was that felt like a gut punch. And I feel like and maybe this is reading too much into it, but there was enough of those situations where between the coram dropped not as much, but then there was a couple other plays were as well as Kate McNamara played. There were some throws that were just a little off, you know, where there's wide open receiver here or wide open receiver there. And they did not take advantage of enough of the opportunities whereas Michigan state did. And like you said, I agree. I think it was like an instant classic game. It's the situation where I actually watched that and felt stronger about both teams than I did going in. You know, we knew kind of walker was a pretty special running back, but I think that was a great stage for him. I thought this was a great, honestly, I thought this was a great day for the Big Ten. At least maybe not for Nebraska Big Ten. But I mean, in terms of what you had from these two schools, they haven't been Michigan state's been awful for a long time and marked Antonio had a great run, but just in terms of what they have done there now, I don't know. I mean, wherever they come in in the top ten and as we get the new rankings Tuesday night, I wouldn't go overboard on that because obviously they both have Ohio State left. And it wasn't like Ohio State look dominant against Penn State. I think a lot of us thought, given the way that Penn State, it kind of had the weak going with James Franklin, thought that man, they're going to get embarrassed at Ohio State and that actually didn't happen. But to me, you had really two very compelling games, especially the one in east Lansing. The interesting thing about the rankings is, I mean, these teams were both 7 and O and going into the game they were both ranked below one loss, Ohio State in the AP poll, which told you that some of that is just kind of default respect for Ohio State, but also that the voters weren't quite sold on Michigan Michigan state yet. The competition, frankly wasn't that great. As I wrote about in final thoughts, this will be a very fascinating first committee rankings because Georgia will be number one and I have no idea what the order will be after that, but there are also. There are some things that really, like I don't know why you would have Michigan state below Ohio State at this point. They're undefeated. They just beat a top ten team, it will resolve itself when they play each other. And maybe people still believe how states the better team, but I think that some people are ranking Ohio State on the Ohio State of the future. It would not surprise me if a month from now iOS data is undefeated in the number two team in the country. But right now, have they really earned the right to be ranked above, not just Michigan state, but the Cincinnati. I don't think they have because you could argue their best win is either last night against a now three lost Penn State team or in week one at Minnesota who was the same Minnesota that lost a bowl in green. So I don't know if they are the same thing. They're now on my point is it happened this year. It's like what are we selling them on is whereas while we're talking rankings, would you have Ohio State or how to Oregon?.

"Because clearly Kate McNamara despite throwing the ball a little bit more in recent games, isn't much more than a game manager in terms of a caretaker or anything else. Other adjectives you want to use to describe what coach Harbaugh is asking him to do. He had 53 pass attempts total in his first four games of the season. Now he has had 93 over the last three, but against northwestern. He threw for a whopping 129 yards on 27 attempts. Yeah, I mean, the way Michigan's offense is designed right now. It is all about the run game and being low variance, the comment Jim Harbaugh made this week about Kate McNamara was pretty interesting. He mentioned points per drive, which was nice. We see Jim kind of rounding into the year 2021 nicely. But the other thing he followed it up with is something that you kind of know Harbaugh's heart loves and it was cage doing a lot of things right. You'll want to avoid turnovers. And that approach works fine when you're the better team on the field and you're bullying teams and you're in game situations that allow you to be Uber run heavy. It'll be interesting to see if Michigan ever trails what the offense actually looks like. For now you mentioned coram Haskins has been fantastic. Those two guys, 81% rushing usage rate combined. Michigan's offensive line I think deserves a ton of credit. It's really important again when you talk about some of these metrics and some of these matchups that there's context included as well. Michigan's offensive line has pushed people around despite the entire world knowing they want to run. Top 25 in both line yards and stuff right allowed. That's an area where Michigan probably has some success here as well. I know the over the large number in the Indiana game shows like hey, Michigan state was pretty good stopping the run. But there was a couple gashes where they lost containment or they weren't able to set the edge. Teams have done decently running on Michigan state and there are times where they have been bullied 76th in defensive line yards. They don't create a ton of negative plays either. So you could have Michigan and some of these situations where it's third and short. He has a stuff rate outside the top a 110 in the country. And as a hole in the ground, Michigan state's defense outside the top 40 in both rushing success rate allowed an EPA per rush out. And you know, you mentioned them not facing the greatest schedule of offenses. When you look at weapons for Michigan, there's not a ton once Belle went down and you look at how cade McNamara's performed. I really think the key to this is getting Michigan into passing situations. And obviously, that is something that is vital for this game, but I don't even think you need to get Michigan into third and long or second and long. Even getting them into third and four. Third and 5. If the drive's not approaching the green zone, that really forces, I think a situation where McNamara has to pass most of the time. And I think that's a possibility of smart he's able to kind of man up on some of these early downs. Right now, Michigan's outside the top 100. In bypassing third down. So it feels like this could be a situation where if Michigan's in third and medium, this game completely changes. Git Michigan and third and four and 5 and not third and two. And I think the complexion is completely different in this game because suddenly you get cade McNamara and a Michigan offense that has a 39% passing success rate forced to be a factor in this game. And if you do that enough times, you might be able to build a lead, and then it puts even more pressure on McNamara. And again, I'll go back to Jim Harbaugh's quote. And he is right about McNamara doing well to avoid turnovers. But there's another side to that coin. And instead he's not very aggressive. And so it's awesome that he's only had one turnover worthy throw all season. But it comes with real conservatism. And McNamara just hasn't really shown a willingness or a want to or an ability to really throw the ball into congested areas. And if the Windows tight, he's not throwing it. He's not being aggressive. If you take every throw from within 19 yards of the line of scrimmage, the McNamara's made 85 passer rating, zero touchdowns. It's really just a conservative approach that I don't love and it will be interesting to see now the line doesn't really indicate that Michigan's going to be behind in this game. But if Michigan say it's to win it, it's because they get McNamara throwing in third medium. And that'll ultimately be I think the biggest determinant on this side of the ball. Yeah, I haven't seen a whole lot in the way a movement on the side for this particular game, three and a half, some spots open, even some fours out there as well. Hovering in that four, four and a half. Range, I think, despite these teams both being undefeated early on and controlling their own destiny within the Big Ten, a lot more questions necessarily than we have answers, given some of those strength to schedules concern. So a lot to play out in east Lansing. We'll see if coach Harbaugh can finally get some of that monkey off his back as it pertains to losing to his in state rival along with that lovely school that we're Scarlett and gray just to the south of Ann Arbor. So good game to watch there in Big Ten country. To Jacksonville, for the world's largest outdoor cocktail party or whatever the hell they call it these days for the Georgia bulldogs, taking on the Florida Gators, and Georgia comes into this game as a two touchdown favorite at FanDuel sportsbook total in this game sits at 51. Florida be Georgia 44, 28 last year snapping Georgia's three year win streak between these two familiar programs. Interesting side note that has absolutely no bearing on the game Saturday pain. Georgia was number one for one other previous meeting when these two teams played each other. That happened back in 1942, long before you and I were around. Georgia beat Florida 75 to nothing in that game. Largest point differential and most points one team has scored in the rivalry. If this game was 75, nothing I think it'll open up some eyes. Quarterback controversies, I don't controversy probably not fair. Quarterback questions swirl around both these teams in terms of who will be the starter for the Gators will be see more emery Jones or Anthony Richardson. And of course, on the other side for Georgia, will it be stetson Bennett.

"Defensively. They didn't really come to play but but they were down. There were trailing offense had to bring them back. This was no longer. This wasn't a rutgers game where we have a lead defense. We are sucking on offense. Can you guys continue to hold their ground defense. There wasn't that kind of game it was. We need to score points down offense. We are not going to stop that you need for our office. Secede offensively came back. You have to be i kate mcnamara through first interception cool. Whatever maybe he needs that maybe say. I can throw a pick and still trust defense. You know take some more shots. I don't know maybe i should. Maybe that's just me. That's why i feel. But i still have michigan number eight. A lot tests committed to have a bio then northwestern which is whatever they suck of a ball but then you gotta look at the have michigan state penn state ohio state still if a resume. Two of those games are on the row house. It's gonna be at home so if they can make it through penn state and michigan state. They can make it through those games. Gift through the indiana maryland. You're northwestern and then get to ohio state undefeated at home i. I'm not looking ahead. I'm not one game at a time. Is what my mentality is for teams. Go one game at a time. However that's a big time game if they're gonna make it undefeatable one game at a time. I got penn state and number nine and people say why they dropped all the way down. They lost yeah. I get that. But i'm curious because i know what the team is a no. They're pretty good. I get that. But i'm still putting them at number nine below michigan because listen michigan's a good team. I think that they can actually control the game. Better than when penn state can that make sense. I don't know last number tampa michigan state. A very good team. That people were not expecting this year. I personally here's thing to both michigan. Teams michigan michigan state. People were not expecting them. Both those teams have be where they are right now..

"And if you look at something like. Qb are relative to the team's success on epa per play basis. it just like jumps off the page that. Qb plays more valuable than initially. We thought i always felt like todd. We'd always been on the higher side of quarterback values when you start to see injuries. Happen guys tweet out what they think. The downgrade is like man. I think it's way more than that. So i'm actually surprised. One thing along those lines. Two that i'll even at all even further because we talk about for the nfl. And i don't want to go on a tangent but i think the perfect illustration of that was a game we saw between navy and ucf people are going. Oh a college quarterback can't worth more than five to seven points and of course i'm generalizing here. No there can be a massive drop off for some of these programs whether their group of five or power programs and i think people are so reluctant to go. Hey look starting quarterbacks out that's thirteen or fourteen points. I mean at miami of ohio of big ben went down. That's about a seventeen point. Adjustment back in the day in. We're seeing juiced at clemson right. It's not an injury but the downgrade from a struggling. Nfl quarterback in trevor lawrence. Down to dj. I mean we've moved clemson to this point down ten and a half points from where we started them in the preseason so even like positional players running backs at the college level. We don't volume in the nfl but at the college level very important. But i was stunned. Because i always felt like we were on the higher end of the spectrum of quarterback valuations. And then when you kind of look at these numbers it's like man we might even be a touch low. And so. I i say all that to say this like michigan. Nebraska comes down to the two quarterbacks. There's been extreme variants and adrian. Martinez played over the years of cade. Mcnamara has had a lot of variance in play. This year you look at kate mcnamara. He's got to be able to hit some throws as well. Right has to hit some explosives over the top. That's where nebraska's defense most vulnerable. Standard down passes and explosive passes were nebraska can kind of be attacked despite the the slew of super seniors in the secondary nebraska's forty ninth and epa pass allowed. So you got to look at kate mcnamara they're potentially hitting something deep one thirty passer rating on deep throat. But the thing here in getting back. Adrian martinez is it. Feels like michigan has more talent across the board. They have other ways that they can potentially beat you. So the key factor is adrian martinez to your point. And i think for him when i look at this. It's going to be a lot of him in the run game. That's important because it'll really allows nebraska's offense to open up and operate at peak and i think we're gonna see like we traditionally do write a ton of rpo from nebraska and. I think that's where they might have. Rach michigan hasn't faced a dual threat quarterback at the power five level. this season they faced. You know a real week schedule of quarterbacks when you look across the board brockie lombardi dylan. Morris who has talent is just kind of being held back by washington staff. Graham merz who is right now the second worst power five quarterback in qbr. Then you had no federal. And i think that name is the one to think about here because federal and rutgers if you watch that game made a halftime adjustment against michigan's defense. They went with their zone. Read and rpo concept's in the second half in federal early isn't the best runner kind of bigger. He's more physical and he did pound michigan at times and picked up a couple extra yards on some key third downs. But you look at how he played in the second. Half some solid fakes. He made some strong quick decisions in that. Rpo game and because of that switch michigan really struggled defensively in there. And i think you're gonna see that exact same thing with adrian martinez except it's going to be on steroids right like he's substantially better playing that kind of style and offense then vigil right and you go back to that game. Rutgers was successful on seventy four percent of the third quarter snaps fifty percent of their fourth quarter snaps making that adjustment in the second half alone with that concept something that obviously nebraska's built on offensively a watered down version of that with rutgers. Five point eight to carry hundred fifty five rushing yards in that second half and that's a rutgers offense ninety nights in epa per rush nebraska's eighth. So when you look at angel martinez as a passer. He's going to be substantially better if the run game is working if his legs are working and i think that's a real possibility he substantially better as well from at least the illinois game onward throwing with this play fake element so angel martinez legs is going to be the key here. Michigan has not defended that. Look well when it saw this season there. Well below the national average and defensive line yards per rush so obviously you know there are some beasts along that defensive line eight and hutchinson is just absolute disrupt. Their but across the board michigan hasn't been the stout est against the run nebraska's offensive line has been really good one of the better lines in the country in terms of line yards three point. Five line yards per rush. And so i think that ground game ultimately enhances nebraska's past game here. It'll be difficult. I right like for nebraska to win in cover. When i look at this if adrian martinez as gist a passer right just kind of living in the pocket. But i don't. I don't think that's going to be the case here. You know it's so interesting because you look at it and it's this nebraska team and there's no doubt there were ancillary storylines coming into the year clearly nebraska fans had grown unhappy with the trajectory of the program and scott frost. Suddenly you win this game. Four three and you look at the big ten west that appears to be as wide open as it's ever been other than iowa who is probably a cut above every other team in that half of the draw nebraska. No doubt need some help but to finish second in the big ten west. If that was capable i think is more than a realistic possibility. And we hit the rewind button before nebraska absolutely blasted northwestern last week. I mean they were the better football team against michigan state. That's not going out in a saying it. When they held michigan state two zero first downs the entire second half it was just self inflicted airs and i think in this game. That's the one. Big fear of nebraska. Can they be buttoned up. Can they avoid those self inflicted wounds. If that's the case in my opinion there's only one way to look in this football game. Especially if adrian martinez raises his level of play. And that's ultimately ben nebraska's undoing. It's the turnover by adrian martinez. A lot of untimely. Fumbles even that sparty game where they dominated in the second. Half you get to overtime ager. Martinez throws his worst pass of the game. In the largest moment prior to overtime. We talk about being buttoned up. There's been some penalty issues from scott frost at the early stages of the season..

I got a request to do a podcast guys from ireland. And so i agreed to do it. And i went on there and i could not believe how much they knew about my life and football in the states and the questions they were asking it was incredible and they told me that football in ireland. Shoot up kitchen. Obviously these guys doing this podcast. They must have a big following and they knew so much blew me away. That's exploded over there. So so that's why. I want somebody digital and then since then it's just grown that crazy so it's become a really cool thing because a lot of the stuff that young order backs it slips through the cracks either. The coach doesn't know it. The middle school coach doesn't know that time to talk about it so i've got content there. It's like well. Here's who's actually walking. Who right i mean you know. Coach has got to install it and then you go all of a sudden play game boom but we didn't get to slow it down and really learn it so i just. I continually populate content in there just to help. This is the most complex position in all of sports. Right i mean. This isn't just something that you know. Just pick up a bat and swing it right And so the the importance of young players. Like if you're not developing with somebody at a young age it's kinda too late. This position is getting very refined. And there's a lot of good coaches out there so Suggests that for him and it's been a great resource in this season. I've got a bunch of stuff. Also have guests come on right so some balls out on saturday in college. Come on sunday and talk about it with the members. That's kind of cool suit. So if we had a guest now who might be the week one. Guess you gotta guess who's gonna ball out on opening day georgia's got clemson so i think jd. But i i'm i'm really excited man. Throw a name. I'm really excited for kate mcnamara in michigan. So i know you're in a lump Just so you know jim. Harbaugh has quarterback cade mcnamara within six grade. He's a real guy. Is she. And forgive me for not even knowing this and i should and i will but i'm not there yet. Is kate macnamara. Projected to store for michigan opening day. He's been announced as the starter. Yes shows you how much. I know about michigan football right right. Like a minimum of one point committed to notre dame de committed and went to michigan. So you're gonna like more okay. And and what. She like is a quarterback. Give me an idea of what. I'm going to see when i watch eight mcnamara play. I'm not setting expectations. But i i the only person i can compare him to in terms of how he approaches the game. Tom brady this kid since seventh grade. Takes everything serious. And there's been a pattern if there's teammates of his. Who aren't that tough or who don't really want to do that. Don't really wanna work that hard. Those players don't like i. We'll be paying attention to k- mcnamara we'll be paying attached to qb summit digital would be paying attention to sam darnold joe bar and all the quarterbacks you've trained tutor during the all season join. Wolverines win total this year of seven and a half kate mcnamara now. The starting quarterback for jim arbonne company. How do you see things playing at the mac daddy. How his things. Mac daddy in michigan. This here's some of the off-season things are just the broad in a defensive coordinator Brother recommended from the ravens. I i'm. I'm really questionable on what they're doing dramatically detroit. He signed input It seems a little over. The diet hasn't been some rave reviews on the defense. I like mcnamara as a quarterback. You know you had some nice. Rinse short run lasted. The issue is the big ten in that division. I think you significantly improved that talent level on michigan. I isn't what it was a few years ago. There's been some steam to the over seven and a half year. I don't i don't see it at all. I think you've got a handful of baked in losses Wisconsin ohio state. They get a couple of masks doormats year to talk up the wind. But they're seven and a half out there at plus one ten plus one one fifteen to the under. I think hard ball would do what now. If is michigan fan. Old school michigan fan. Base is not going to be happy with seven five with this. I mean rutgers is better. Maryland is better. They've got indiana who brings a back. I there's not outside of You know northern illinois here. There's not a ton of games that going into and they watch. I think they're gonna lose a washington game. I don't see a ton of games run like man. I feel great about this game going into the big ten's level up a bit And there's this. This isn't the michigan team of three two three four years ago. That had you know happened. Nfl eamonn It's just not that talented of a team. I like under seven and a half. A-plus money with the lions played michigan. What would the point spread. "Keep listening for money in the hour on K away news radio. Last week did we were talking about Dylan McCaffrey and he was in the transfer portal and announced Over the weekend that he is transferring to northern Colorado. To play for his dad, who's the head coach there? And I don't think it's a big surprise. It's just You know, coming from Michigan to northern Colorado. Pretty big step down and in competition level. But I could see the attraction for him to be able to play for his death. I think it's just a matter of being able to play right. You transfer to you and see you don't want to sit out. He I think has two more seasons left. We can play both of them. But if you would have transferred to, um you know another Division one school, you have to sit out to sit out. But if you transfer to Ah, To a what we used to be. Division one double a now FCS school. You don't want to sit and you think you have a pretty good chance to play. If your dad's head coach, I am Maura than just a little surprised that he did not get playing time in Michigan. I just thought he was a hell of a player. In high school may pocket presence, toughness could throw it. You know, it wasn't really a runner, but he could run. He was athletic enough. He could run. I just don't know what happened. I don't know what happened there. This'll story I'm reading here, said the this past offseason, the starting job was up for grabs. But reports indicated that he was beat out by two players Joe Milton and Kate McNamara. And then I saw Joe Milton early and you look terrible didn't look good. Yeah, He looked bad, in fact, and it wasn't until they brought in. McNamara is when Michigan started looking better offensively, but you could see why why Dylan would want to get out. Get out of there. He's put in the time. Hey, we've been a back up there for the whole time. He's been there and then when he has a chance to start, two guys beat him out. So maybe maybe harbor I didn't like him. I'll just say this and again. I don't follow Michigan football all that closely, but I mean, I saw Michigan early in the season with Joe Milton. Again. Maybe I'm not saying the competition wasn't fair. But it does make me wonder because I remember Dylan McCaffrey. As he was as a quarterback. I mean, he to me in my mind was a better player than what I witnessed early in the season from Joe Milton and what when he did get a chance to play in Michigan. I thought he looked like he could play. Yeah. It is thinking much of a opportunity not so good for him that the other point about the McCaffrey families, Luke McCaffrey also eyes the transfer port of leaving Nebraska. Somebody text me with weekend He'll probably wind up you and CIA's well and play safety. Your slot receiver. I don't I don't think Luke. I haven't talked to any of them. But I don't think Lucas quite ready to say OK, my career's a quarterback is over. So I would doubt that Luke will wind up you and see at least not right now because he's not gonna compete with Dylan. On. You know, you're not gonna have that. So if you go there, you know you're gonna more than likely change positions. I don't think Luke is ready to do that. What if he went there and, you know, played running back her receiver? How many years to Dillon have left, too? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that wouldn't make sense that no receiver that right? Well, yeah. Yeah, but he wants to be a quarterback. If you want to be a quarterback, then that's not gonna work for him. But so if he transfers to a another Division one school, he's gonna have to sit out. Yes. So Luke would have been let me see. So Luke graduated. Still in the youngest, hers, Luke, the youngest loot. Look Lucas, the youngest, So Luke graduated from valor in the spring of 19. So the fall of 19 the full of 20 so I'm not sure he's used his redshirt year. I don't know if we have to check that out. I the red shirt his freshman year. I don't think you'd be played last year. I don't think he used. He's played two years in Nebraska. Well, do you consider it spring ball a year? I don't think so. You played last year. Was last year lot of unless she was 20 freshman year. A faster was 20. Yeah, he was a redshirt freshman Redshirt 19. Okay, so red shirt freshman so if he transfers to another division one school FBS school Then he will lose a year. So he's a redshirt freshman Richard Software junior senior, so he's gonna have if he transfers down. He'd have three years to play. If he transfers on a par, he'd have to sit out. One year he'd have to You have to to play. It'll be interesting to see what he does. Then who's the better quarterback between the two there different? I mean, Dylan's more of a pocket guy. Um Luke is more athletic, more dynamic. As an athlete, so you know, I mean, when you have an athlete like that. And this has been going on for years and years and years. He's the first one. You talk about moving, right? I've got another guy that, you know, not just gonna athlete. You can play this position. So those guys always get moved s so I just don't know the Lucas ready to say OK, my Juana. I wanted in my career goal of playing quarterback. Why did you leave Nebraska that I don't know. I don't know if he was he was getting play time. Early in the season, but he wasn't getting playing time down the stretch. Okay, that I don't think I think that is said they should have that other running quarterback that they were really big on. And I can't think of his name right now that the one that played that last. You know the guy I'm talking about. Together from Nebraska. Yeah, the guy he split time. Tina, Tina, Tina, Tina and a good tax from the 970. I forgot about this because of coverted last year doesn't count. So he won't lose that year, right? Really from last year. Oh, you know what? That that's that's right because they didn't play last year. Everybody. Everybody gets sort of a freebie. Okay. I said that because he came in and played only what eight games. Some played. I don't know how many Nebraska played. I don't either. But some schools only played four games. Maybe That's why all those All those kids can nobody nobody has that year counted. Wow, that puts some of the school's in a problematic area, right? I mean, see you had to go to their senior class..

Congratulations, My dude. And if you're driving south on right now, on state Street, just south of the athletic, accomplish, really, In the middle of all the complex with the train tracks are you'll see matted universes billboard. I sell ann arbor dot com. That's I sell Ann arbor dot com. But we will talk about a couple of the one guy in particular on offense. In a moment we get our players the game. You know, Officer plays of the game. You know, Hoskins Early had a nice run. On this day. There was a couple of nice place of the year, but nothing really jumps out because you lose a game 27 17, and it goes into the one of the conversations that we were having on one of these locker and wrap up shows in recent weeks. The math conversation. And you know, it becomes a simple math thing. And Sam talked about how much you have to score to win games. But the defense is gonna make enough stops. Fact is the defense held him quarter court held it was 27 points. And if you don't fumble away, I'll get to this movie Don't fumble with one of her possessions. It's three fewer points, but Sam talked about. Don't talk about needing to score in the thirties. Okay? And guess what, you get the 13 this when you win because they get up 27 points, But in the first half you have six touches six touches in the first half. You'd want turn over a dance. He had the ball moving on your first drive, But then you get stymied on fourth down and you can't get a yard. You can't get it. You're like you have to be able to get a yard. That's it's part of this right? You're not playing, You know, general, you think playing pens that you're talking about playing a good team, But Michigan and Penn State You're playing a bottom your part about your part of and you're playing within the bottom part of the division in the conference. You have to go to get a yard. Hey, you're probably not gonna get it against teams that are better than you. But how about the teams that are right around you even to get a yard. They couldn't get a yard stuff. Turn over on downs. Then they scored a touchdown. They had a nice drive and things look promising. But the end of that Dr Kate McNamara takes the hit and he's now knocked out. Your next three drives. Two of them are with Joe Millner quarterback and then Kate goes back in. But you could tell Kate was not the same after he took that hit and I was there were three points. And then they had the lost possession late in the first half on the drop point when saying Russell must upon and that got the extra field goal, three points for Penn State and the Michigan had the ball of the of the half. That was that. You lost possession, maybe have a chance. You can go down and score. Maybe Kate can get loose a little bit. If nothing else, put three points on the board. And so that's a six point swing. Can you score a touchdown? I'm not saying you would, but that's a 10 point Swing. If nothing else, don't give up the three points And you know, the grand scheme of things isn't gonna make a difference. Maybe it was 27 17 year. Maybe you have the ball with one possession, even a one possession game right out. I don't know It does change a little bit. But the point is, you can't have six touches in the first half and scored seven points. Can't do it. If you want to win a football game, you can't do it. Thankfully, Penn State's You know at Tina's in their position where they you do that and you sort of in the game. Now. You don't win the game, but you're in the game. You had a chance. You scored seven points on six touches. As I said, it goes to simple math. The mass dot on your That's not math in your favor. You know the second half there were fewer possessions. They were just overall. There were fewer touches for each team in the second half, because in the second half for Michigan, they had the field goal to open the half. Then they had a pawn on a three and out. Then they had a touchdown. So you had 10 points in three possessions. Then they had a nine play 38 year. Dr. They got stuffed on at the end on fourth, and they couldn't convert on first down to get a first down, And that was their last possession. They only had four touches in the second half. When you give up the same amount of points, you score because Pence it went upon field goal touchdown, and then they run the clock out for the final 5 37 as opposed to mission, you know, so you're trading off the points you there's not enough touches for you to do something like that. And so the mass not in your favor and Obviously you got to make stops, which we're gonna get to the moment. But offensively in the first half you cannot have in modern football, You know? Maybe in 1977 you could You get away with that? As you might even be up. But in 2020, you cannot have six first half possessions and scores seven points or that's that is even possessions touches because the one they lost one on the fumble, and I feel for Mike because he was in for Giles, Jackson's and so you feel for him. But you just can't do that. You can't do that on git was really costly. Uh, on the defensive side of the ball. I mean, we've talked about this, this Michigan team they're very others. Defense has become pretty. They've proven that a pretty good ability miss to make average Or maybe above average players were young players or whatever might be Look great. They've made guys like all Americans like Rocky Lombardi. Today it was Keep on. Lee had 22 carriers for 134 yards. No Clipper was pedestrian 17 to 28 for a buck 63. They Washington. Nine catches for 93 was no. One. It was cheese to keep on Lee that they may look like the player that was having his best game of his career against Michigan. Really, You know, it wasn't actually that it was a one in this game. There was one standout guy, although Lee was pretty good running the football It was a Michigan made Penn State's offense. Look okay. Fences officer did not look. Okay, look, okay, Michigan's defense, they I mean, they are what they are, and we know what they are. And it's A couple. You know you have moments here and there and you. You just see where you're like, Can they? But they end up there. They can't and the end Can you get the ball back for your offense and they couldn't do it and they couldn't make stops They needed to. They couldn't get the field in the right point in time. Unfortunately, They holding to a field goal when the when you had the botched punt that actually, you know, they did. That was a win for the defense on a sudden change because they did their job there got the ball back to the office like the first half, with the chance to put points on the board, as opposed to giving them up. That's not really on the defense. But overall, the defense is what they are. We know what they are, and you know for them to only give up 27 points in the game. It's in the situation where we were Michigan had to be. It goes back to the offense cannot score six points on 7% in the first half, and then in a game with his only four possessions each for each in the second half. You know, used not enough time left in the football game at that point in time, another disappointing performance for the Michigan Wolverines. I mean, we could talk about having a driver The game brought to buy Brighton Ford Get on board with Bright and Ford call 1 800 New four to visit brightened four dot com. But This could see me right now, if you can. He's entertained by my feisty dog over here is driving me crazy. Michigan did have a couple of nice touch. John drives once the first happened once in the second half, but obviously in a game we only scored 17 points are drive..

"On your sports tiger. Just say play ESPN radio margin Young alongside Jeff Dickerson. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. It's going down. In Jersey fellas as Rutgers leaves Michigan, 42 to 35. I will remind you Jeff Dickerson, Rutgers, his first conference win as a member of the Big 10. Came against Michigan in 2014. The two programs had not previously met before them course It's been kind of one sided since 2014. But she I Oh, The Scarlet Knights. Given Michigan the business you gotta you gotta you gotta agree to mutually part ways. If if if you lose this game, Michigan, right? You need to part ways with him. Horrible. Well, well, well, It's not just not get ahead of ourselves here. So the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Draft a beautiful screen pass on the Wolverines defense first play of the second OT and they rumble all the way for a touchdown. Extra point is good. It's 40 to 35, Rutgers. Michigan ball second overtime. A Rutgers just had a face mask penalty for the Wolverines now have first in gold about the four yard line, RJ, so they obviously need a touchdown and an extra point to force a third overtime. But yes, if they lose this game, there is a chance that perhaps horrible is left at Newark as the rest of the team flies back to Ann Arbor. I'm not ruling that out, but it looks like Michigan. It's not about the one yard line second and goal, so there's a good chance here. We won't get just one over time, not two overtimes, but maybe three overtimes and beyond. You know, I did not think that Jim Harbaugh would be in a better situation being down seven to Rutgers. On the road, then Penn State and then it hits me. Michigan has something that Penn State does not have. Win. W. They have actually, you know. Done. That thing is getting to that. W COLUMN that it seems to be kind of important. Meanwhile, I was floored by this fact. I had to double check it myself. Penn State. Being often. Oh, in five. Is the worst start in program history, and Penn State has been playing football since 18 87 that one's coming next week. By the way. For perspective here. Head state started playing football five years. After they started laying track through the city of Tulsa, and it was still Indian territory. It was still lawless. They had never actually been off to anoint five start and yet Who did they get in next week? Like Jim Harbaugh. And the Michigan Wolverines, in which case It won't if he escapes this game if they don't leave him at the airport in Newark. Who's to say that he gets to go home. If he loses depends state next week, Jeff Well, Summer's gonna give that Penn State is not gonna go winless the entire year. By the way, Kate McNamara just took it in. From two yards out. He scores a touchdown. It is 42 41 Rutgers. Pending the extra point. I should mention this Michigan kickers had some some issues tonight. He's been very yell E. I don't think he's happy with the snaps and the ball placement in that, But he needs to make this extra point to send this game to a third overtime, which he did. So it's 42 42. Third overtime. Now Michigan will get the football first. Now again. I don't think Penn State goes the whole year, RJ without winning, so the odds are not really in Michigan's favor against the Nittany Lions. Next week. I mean, it's gonna be hard for Penn State not win a game all year..

"I can't remember if I ran the forty or not I really don't remember is it on sit on Google or something I'd say if see if I could find it's fast. It's time. We sports six elect four six flat electronic, and I say this tongue in cheek now. Little Umer little unit coming here. Did they run the forty in when you? Yeah. They did. It was exactly literally the Combi was exactly the same. When I was in nineteen eighty Eighty-six. And you did every save. Yeah. Did all the throwing and it's an absolute mess to so much going on. I think I got one one rep on the bench press. That was not my that was my one, right? A needed to. So are you only teams any teams shown interest? Or were you think that it might be a possibility they would draft you or not that you have to mention Mary you get talking to some teams now. Yeah. For sure I've had a couple of private meetings couple private workouts with some teams in the talking to a team in a couple of days. I'm gonna fly out there and check out their facilities and stuff. So. Yeah. There's been a good amount of teams that have been seem like they're interested in a hopefully, they're still interested on draft day. But this from a standpoint, you know, just being here for years and big around you you are an amazing guy. And I say that walk down the hall and see you, and I get that smile on your face and engaging personality, and I don't know where you're gonna go and who you're going to be playing with. I know it's going to be someone, but I'm rooting for you on your team. And I want you to have a fantastic career. Thank you. And then and then on after that, you are an amazing guy that an exclamation point stamped at as well sacks have a first class. First cast first class guy all the way here since he's been a freshman. We'll send this tape around to the league as well. Zach always hosted guys he was always first in line. Incredible recruiter. Incredible guy, you hosted Kate McNamara. On his visit sexual act Chardonnay just Carlo come. Brian watt Carlo camp on. No, I have more that committed sleeping my mind. Now. Kids recruiting kids who is your host came here. Why host was like a combination of like Pat Kugler and chase one of each. Do they know that they'd stay with you the whole time that they buy you something the that they disappear or do they here? They didn't disappear. Stuck with me? All right. Good. Yeah. That was the great thing about Zack is that was that was never ever the case. It was always was always on time fiend the guys video games. Whatever it was. He went with them did and did an incredible job. I think the greatest compliment that coaching staff can play pay to a player is to ask them to recruit. Very selective guy. Like you. I mean, somebody that they really want and they and they dentist with your personality type of person, you are that's who they are. And every week with numbing repetition. Right. What do you do this? He's looking at me right now. A week off. Oh, yeah. I was getting a lot of meals a lot of Ruth's Chris there. We get you come back. We'll you know, what old zek gentry leaves some new things. "He's getting through all the all the conditioning. He's getting through all the practices not having to to. Stop at any time. He's looking like in so many ways all our quarterback quarterback room is is really good shape. Patterson the starter Dylan McCaffrey run a number two right now, Joe Milton number three, and I will make this prediction shape. Patterson will not be able to put his feet up higher spree practice because there's guys common hard and and fast, this McCaffrey and Melton really really good. Then also BP Brian Peters, and and Kate McNamara or doing extremely well off align looks as good as it ever has better and returning for four starters, you you'd think that would be the case you'd anticipate that, but they've ascended they've gotten better too is not just come back and and punch the clock. These these past winter workout sessions. Here's another bright spot is defensively. Line of pry personifies the the under the radar guys and where they are taking this. And where they've taken it the last three or four months, but that group in particular is is shining right now. Eight hundred seven really good player quit. He pay really good player Carlo camp as another guy who's a leader in bringing guys along and he came in as an inside backer. We're gonna play it insight backer. It'd be good insight back and then moved to outside backer, then put him at defensive end and then eventually tackle. But so he's at tackle. He is really niche strong, strong, strong really strong and really lead that group in their than young guys are just pop into a job. Oh, and Newburgh Julius wealth. Kopf who played no high school football has got all the all the town all the traits. In their Ben Mason is going to be playing both ways. And he's. Fast in on the defensive line. That's where we're playing them and really strong as an animal and who's going to block them. And maybe even the best guy so far if you look at one from last season two this season Donovan jeeter as had a really tremendous off season. The team workouts have been good into practice yesterday. And I see him. I see him getting after people, and, you know, not only self hold himself accountable and hold and other guys accountable. Maybe so far the biggest job along with Christian Turner. Now, those Chris Turner up in a real beast all over he's been really the the off season, and that's just one day in so looking forward to talk and pull over the next month or so leading up to the the fan fest event and then the spring game coming up in April as well. We also remind everybody last week we tweeted out a picture of the ten rules the Harbaugh way of life and asked the question. What do you love about the podcast? What do you want to hear going forward? We're going to keep taking those submissions and next week next week on the podcast. We're going to pick a winner. And we're gonna send it to you. We've had some great responses so far so keep those tweets coming in. We're going to pick a winner for that next week. But one of the tweets that came in mixed in their coaches, we wrap things up with the response to that tweet from from Dennis who said it was such an honor to meet the man who invented coaching. Maybe a little extreme. Nobody said it made Michigan football fun again last night at the kiss concert. So I was kiss. It was loud. That was I was taking one for the team there that was that was a daughter Addie for she's a metalhead. She's ten years old. And for some reason, she's she's relates to these eighties bands. And seventies bands need to talk to her. Pretty chaperone. I can and you especially if you're a practice I can handle the some of those louder venues. Oh, yeah. Wasn't. She rocker at for Halloween. Did I remember seeing that she had this kiss shirt for for a while? Now, I think she got to ask for for one of her birthdays..

"And I've got I've got a mostly take control this situation. I'm not so sure that it can be duplicated in a lot of other sports. How would you been? How would you respond to that? I completely agree. You know? I mean, obviously, there's there's a camaraderie that comes with sort of grind, you know, preparing for eight or nine months, you know, for the for the small opportunity to go compete twelve times. Right dif- different than other spurts where you play so many games. But then also, I don't know there's a testosterone there's a swagger. There's a confidence that comes with planners game at an elite level in in. There is that. Moment that definitive moment. And I I can tell you was that that that that look in those eyes. That's the moment he figured out how to manufacturers themselves and his repeat it, and repeat it, and repeat it, you know, sort of on game days. It's it's a fun thing for me. Just having a sense for what's going on in his mind. You know, just the the the comprehension if you will aware he's at emotionally to kind of see the body in in Beal read that moment Bree game, where it's you know, it's go time in his head. You say to have raised them. Really? Well, I I look at football. I mean, it there was a time when it was like, you know, the sport for the toughest, the fastest, you know, the the strongest kids and and blocking and tackling with the things that that made football. And then it started getting to where one handed catches were, you know, the the only important thing and by say that to say that. Zack is as a throwback kind of guy dead. He always not a not a social media guys. Not looking to see how many followers he could get on Twitter, Mary, we he straps it up, and and buckles the chinstrap, and and Ron's our blocks. You know, it's it's with a it's where the purpose to to play strong and tough and fast. And I really appreciate that about the one the one thing I see here just in the short four or five weeks at the that they've been here. This group of eight is a to me a really an unusual and fascinating group because they've they've come together, and they bonded as one and Zach appears to me to be kind of the glue that holds at together to some degree my way off base on that. Or they all seem to be that way. You know, it it's it's a it's a really unique group. I mean, that's my point. They get to class about twenty minutes early. The reports, you know, they got all the materials array to go. They there's they're all their count over here at the facility all the time. Kate McNamara's organizing Kate passing groups him, and Eric all are are throwing and and they're they're lifting Mazi Smith and David a Joe Bower together at all times. They're lifting. They're they're going to class together roommates. You know, it's it's great. And you see him as a as a big group to a man's? But they're they're so extreme serious. You know, they're really serious about about what they're doing. It's interesting looking at all the guys they they all rely on each other for different things. Good point like Eric halls was standing in this office coach. And he mentioned that you said something by getting the class and getting the lifts and Eric was like, Yep. I just talked Zach Zach points me in the right there, you know. So it's it's and then. Summits..

"If not time for the first attack. Stay the Harbaugh's podcast twenty nineteen th great back here. Another year the podcast bring to you here on podcast one. I'm your guide IRA wind chill. We've got coach Jim Harbaugh here. Coach Jack Harbaugh here director of recruiting Matt Dudek is here as well. Happy new year guys. Welcome back coach you've been a little bit in the last couple of weeks. He's like, you don't there's no time to breathe you guys. You've been busy. Yes. Very very much. So. As as there was new coaches to hire of look at it as a tremendous opportunity to to make the team better. And one of the one of my big jobs is making sure that one hundred forty players on the team have the best possible coaches that we we can have and really pleased a lot of work, but really is has paid off and feel like we're in a great spot with with some of our new coaching hires and. And also get in the mid year settled in eight eight eight new guys really have been gungho really really excited. I know I talked talked a couple of weeks ago about some of their crews we had coming in. And which is like, you know, and like their football character like their their their character. As as individuals and claybon green is telling me that every guy has been twenty to thirty minutes early for each class that they've had say they started orientational last Tuesday. But. Moved moved. Everybody into the dorms on Sunday and had a great get together. Here Chen Boeckler hall with the families and the and the youngsters and, you know, it happened that moment happened where they had to actually drop them off in the car had to leave and they had the parents to look in the rear view mirror and see this is the first time that the sun isn't coming with them. And the first time that the sun is watched that car drive away. And and they weren't in it since since then, it's you know, it's been one week in one day and have really liked the way our eight year year players are spent so much time around sham alcohol. You know, it's it's their friend and Kate and Eric Kate McNamara. Eric all Zach Chardonnay they've all been doing a lot of work around shebek hall. They've been throwing cage really been organizing guys to go out. They're also Jalen Perry's been out thrown and doing defensive back drills. Mikey, Sandra sills is out there catching and and playing and Mazi Smith, you know, just been chomping at the bit to get into the weight room, and he finally got into the the weight room, and he is strong. He is strong. Ben Herbert's already already talking about that. And and gave Newburgh. The the same way just just outstanding competitor. And you know, just these guys got I mean, they really have always I coined this phrase couple of weeks back. Can I got it from one of the recruits they said they're coming here to make Michigan great to make themselves. Great. And that's about all you can ask for they all they they're getting along good together. They never have a greater opportunity is the as the seven other mid years at they come in with that group of eight have each other. They have that. And there are team within this football team, which is a team within the university which but they've done a great job recognize it, they move. They move together. They get the class early the together and the room together. It's the dynamic has been really good. We've been been hiring coaches that's been really good and. You know, so far, you know, everything is really go positive my vision, you know, there's two factors to this vision. The first vision is four years down the road for years from now, we're celebrate a national championship team. No be two or three all Americans on that national championship team. And they'll be standing as one of them is being presented the Heisman Trophy..
