"Damn it. It's for science for science. Exactly. Right. No, nobody ever Next trending topic earning vice President Mike Pence is the first White House official to receive the Corona virus vaccine, and he did so live on television Pence who leads the White House Current virus Task force. Got a vaccine shot at a White House event Friday morning, saying afterwards he didn't feel a thing. Not yet. Second lady Karen Pence. You don't see a lot of her. No, they they really call him. Second lady call the wife of the vice president of Sex Second Lady Future. Dr. Joe Biden and Surgeon General Jerome Adams were also vaccinated at the event, which was attended by Dr Anthony Fauci now Complain to you. What he get vaccinated TBD, okay? Complained to you earlier today on Kayla, if news and informations Facebook live event that we hold every day at three o'clock, that would be the Kayla of page on Facebook. You're welcome to join it. Three o'clock. I complained that Mike Pence looked incredibly awkward wearing the Short sleeve button down, which I think no adult man should ever wear. Now you're only saying that because it looks like he got it at Wal Mart in It looks terrible on him. It looks terrible on everybody. How many times old man should wear a Short sleeve button down before I switched to the perm assurance that I wear now, but that's you. I was wearing short sleeve button down shirts. Look at it. Rocket. Okay, looked Average it best on you. It looked fine. It looked normal compared to the garbage you wear now. That way it was. It was G Q s. Okay, But Mike Pence looked weird it once again. It's winter while you're just used to see him in something else, that's all that when you see somebody wearing clothes that don't seem like they normally wear them. It almost seems awkward, but it's almost like he's never done anything but warn a suit. Exactly. That's what I'm talking about. You're so used to. You've never seen him in anything but a suit. So when you see him what in anything else, and that's true with everybody when you see them wearing something else, For example, if I came to work on Monday wearing a suit, how would people respond? Oh, my God. Oh, this is unbelievable. That's it. Because they're not used to seeing me like that. They're used to seeing me and rotten genes and a Tauron up sweatshirt with a guacamole stain on it. Hey, look terrible if I was part of his transition team I would have told him not to do here is what I would say This is the only suggestion I am. I think if you're an older guy, you should not wear a pull over type shirt like a polo shirt that I don't think that looks good. Unless you've got the body underneath and trust me. You don't. He should have warned just the gown. They give you at the hospital, E. I think you should have just sat there, shirtless. I would love that. You know who would have Putin? He would have abs demanded it. Be sure that what? Make sure you get the good side or what Pinch really should have done was dropped his pants right there, and we see the vice Presidential moon. Here we go. We're gonna Surely you don't write a real man is that's right. All right. Next training topic. A long awaited second coronavirus relief bill could get done tonight or not. Lawmakers in Congress are reportedly close to a deal on a $900 billion package that includes a round of stimulus checks in the 600 to $700 range. Could be 6 75 76 50. They've been saying they're close now for several days. What was it? It's fake news. It is. What is the holdup here? How close? What's Why are we not able to get over the hairs here? Yeah. TBD. Okay, now the deadline for an agreement is 12 01 on Saturday, meaning it has to happen tonight. Ernie 12 01 is tonight. Now, if the deal is reach checks would most likely be issued. J in January at the earliest. On Friday, Republican Senator Ron Johnson no idea who that is bullshit, Johnson. Exactly, And nobody blocked an effort by fellow Republican Josh Holloway to secure a vote on a package including $1200 checks. Well, hell, if we're just handing out money, I would prefer 1200 over 600 sure most people would like that twice. As a matter of fact, yes, I think the reason that there's a deadline is because they have a government. Funding thing that they have to a temporary funding the otherwise you're gonna have a partial at best government Shut down at midnight tonight, which, by the way, perfectly fine with me. Shut it down. Shut it down. Leave it! Shut down for the next 12 months. I'm good with it. Because that's the only time we're not going deeper in debt, corrects But they have to get that done, and they have to get this done as part of the spending bill, and that's probably you're probably you know what's happening is you probably have one or two senators holding the whole thing up because they're trying to get something that they could take home until their constituents. They want to put a library and Lewis fell. That's right there. Exactly. That's exactly what's happening. We're trying to get $30 million to study something That means nothing, but it's $30 million. I brought back to this district. Actually, one of the weaker district for I didn't get along to protect the pelicans. And by the way, let's take the government shut down out of this. I've been hearing this deadline. You know, we've got to get out before the before the vacation begins. Now. I mean, honest to God. They said this before Thanksgiving to we got to get this done before Thanksgiving vacation starts before Christmas vacation starts. It's like this deadline. It's hard and fast. It's a cement wall, and we can't get past it. Were there ever be a time when there were they ever considered meeting every other year? Like Texas. Yes. Oh, man. I would love that, because even I I have a feeling that's you're trying to go into the past. I wouldn't doubt if one day Texas gets to where they go every year would sadly it went to me. But, you know, I don't think they will. Because Texas meets 140 days every other year, and the legislators get paid $600 a month. Her. So the only people who could be legislators in Texas or people who have careers that allow them to disappear for 140 days, And that's not including special sessions and much You support the elite. So you like that? Yeah, that's right. So if you want to run and be part of the Texas Legislature, you have to have your own business on the side, which to me. You know, if you're gonna you're gonna have a Legislature. You should pay him enough to where they could At least pay an apartment. Pay their bill for the apartment. You know, so they don't have to know. Yeah, Why? Why we can't just pay them. You know? Okay, So how in the military they do it Based on where you live? You get that kind of a stipend. So if you live in l A. You make a little bit more on so you can afford to pay your house bill. The reason they don't do it is because they when this originally the idea of the Texas Legislature was that they didn't want full time legislators and they couldn't afford full time legislators and people would come in from long distances, and they come on covered wagons and that type of thing taking the old steam train. But that's and we just never changed from there because most people don't want to pay a legislator. More money. I don't want to give these people more. I mean, we look and see what we get for 174,000 in Washington and people just go insane. This is no but the same thing happens in California. They meet 24 7 all the time and they pay those assembly people in California of fortune, and they're useless. They are They're turds Dream gig. If you saw a big punch bowl there, the turds floating in it. They are worthless and they're crazy, But that's what a full time Legislature will do for you Look at California, a state that is so deeply in debt. I don't know how they're ever going to dig out of it..

"So you get the idea of how that all went down. Oh, yeah, I got the idea. Esso your thoughts on this Well, city is in in a in a weird spot right now, Right? It's two things having two conflicting sort of outside the city guidelines. The Boise, Idaho decision. That means that you have to be able to provide housing before you could extract people from a public area like this. And then the CDC guidelines would say, says you can't do congregate housing. So you've got these two dual conflicts you've got. Essentially what it's saying is, you could move them if you can put him in, say, tiny homes or something like that. The tiny home allotment isn't there. So what do you do with the city? I mean, I still think they have to clear the park and that's what they're saying. So the city is saying that they have offered them shelter. Well, yeah, but are refusing well, so except that if you look at what council member mosquitoes saying she's she makes she's referencing congregate housing, So it's not clear in the city hasn't made clear what sort of housing it's offering, because It may be in conflict with the with the CDC guidelines are as opposed to what the federal courts have said regarding the Boise, Idaho situation, right, But you agree, though, that they cannot continue their account. This has been going on since. Before summer. Oh, no, absolutely agree. I agree. I mean, this this is this is not the way to handle it. The city's sort of been handling it by not handling it. Yeah, It's just so frustrating And the reason I wanted you to hear that neighborhood activist Who, by the way is African American, and she was pointing out that you guys don't even understand some of she feels like some of these people don't even understand what they're protesting and there there even though they don't feel they don't understand what it's like to be homeless, and she pointed out that she herself while she supports Helping the homeless, she says. I myself can't even afford to live in my own home because I don't have a job right now. So I'm living in a basement. And just because I feel like doing this doesn't mean I can occupy a home, right. Occupy a home or occupy apart. Both of those, right? Yeah, Absolutely. So, Vice President Mike Pence and the second lady Karen Pence. Both got the Fizer covert 19 vaccine this morning. Today. Karen and I wanted to step forward and take this vaccine to assure the American people that while we cut red tape We cut no corners. Surgeon General Jerome Adams also got his shot during today's televised event. Adams, who is black, is encouraging all of us to avoid disinformation around the vaccine. It would truly be the greatest tragedy of all. Disparities in covert outcomes actually worsened because the people who could most benefit from this vaccine can't get it or won't take it. Working to combat mistrust and misinformation will be critical if we are to ensure the equitable protection of all Americans against covert 19, so they're trying to be very transparent. They're obviously trying to win over the skeptics. If you hear the ads on Radio or see them on TV. There was constantly on this station. Yes, constantly on this station constantly very targeted towards certain populations. Do you think this is going to work? Yeah. I mean, here's the one another thing we could think Facebook for right? I mean, you can. You can correlate the decline in number of people who believe in vaccinations with the rise of Facebook in the face book. Uh, acquiescence on this information. They're absolutely correlated. And so And so, what do you do? Well, you have to put out more information to get people to at least buy into this idea of vaccines. I, however, I would like to have, though. I do think being skeptical about vaccines is fine. Absolutely. If you're injecting that absolutely makes sense. But at some point, you know, let science rule the day. So one of the things that we said with our show is we're going to try to get as many experts as possible. We're going to report when there is an adverse reaction. We're not going to try to sugarcoat it. Um okay. Here's another thing that I mean, this is a whole bunch of different things that are happening on the vaccine front. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has now saying that yes, your bosses can require you to get a vaccine. As a condition of going to work unless you can prove that you have a disability or a sincerely held religious belief that prevents you from doing self. Yeah, I'm I'm your boss. Well, right, So it depends on the industry, right? I mean, we're not required here. As far as I know, At least one asked me when I got a job here to get a vaccine. But if you work in a hospital right.

The call despite tells the story of three of the first Asians to risk their lives aspires for Britain in occupied France during the first days of World War two. They're three women. They're Afghans, a Jewish refugee who had become a famed spymaster Virginia Hall on American who walks on a wooden leg an orange I have con. The daughter of a prominent Indian Muslim family who tells the British officer who recruit teacher because I'm a British citizen and I drop in from that's my home. I cannot just stand by and let the Nazis do what they're doing. Is that all normal? Actually, I also wish That an Indian would win high military distinction in this war because you know if a few of us could do something brave in the Allied service Might push the gap between the Indians and the British. That's Radica update as nor Kahn films not playing in select theaters across the country and several streaming platforms. And Radica update. Well known Indian film and stage actress joins us now from Great Britain. Thanks so much for being with us. Thank you so much for having me I gather is that this is a famous story. I can't believe it hasn't hit the screen before British intelligence had had to be convinced to use women. And then they wound up thinking. Well, what a brilliant stroke there. They're less conspicuous than men. Absolutely. You know, we were actually internally having this discussion at that time and wondering if situation has changed. And what gender bring spy, you know? On DH. I think in general, women are always told to take into consideration the other people on what they are thinking and what they need all the time on. I think, Because of that women are far more secretive. They're more discreet. I think all of this also really must have. Come handy. You know what I mean? Nor Kong became a legendary wire operator. Wey Auto note in these days of microchips. Andi, you know iPhones wireless communications devices, which were considered to be Revolutionary Att. The time were about the size of steamer trunks, weren't they? You know, they gave me a real one to carry throughout the shoot. I can't. It was really heavy on DH. I'm quite short. I'm quite fatigued to compared to the to the other actresses in our crew. So there's a There's a joke in the film. Actually, she's trying to lift that. She's just saying that Oh, my God. This is the tree like exercising. I call home I as we're going to do this and be discreet about it. What made you interested in playing nor nor calm? I mean, of course, I was right about her. But I hadn't ever done so much research. But the more I read about nor not con, I was absolutely fascinated because I mean, like most people in the world always always battled it. War on DH people are so driven by anger and revenge and power. And loss on she was somebody driven by hope on peace. The exact opposite. I mean her struggle. Her fight was not led by anger at all not hatred at all. So it was a very inspiring character. Yeah, we should explain. She's from a pacifist family tradition. And At one point she says, What I'ma pacifists and they're teaching me how to kill Theo. Whole training involves killing and, you know, combat on DH. She just can't cope with it. And she says This is not what I signed up for. I will save lives. Yes, but I'm not going to kill and That's when Virginia said, no, There's this is saving. This's how you save your own life. But, yeah, I think I think it's such a thin line and such such a difficult one to walk that I'm sure that she must have come across so many such questions at every step. Yeah, and and we should explain. Teo women were talking about, including, Of course, your character. They weren't what would call Mata Hari's They were soldiers. Really? Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, they're just they're lives of interest their families in Sacrifice absolutely everything on DH. They thought in the most dangerous situations not knowing whether Whether they'll have shelter where they have food. Whether they'll have they'll die of cold and dysentery like the fourth life soldiers. Absolutely. I'm struck. When one of the characters says towards the end of the film. We're here for only a short time of what we do changes the course of the future. Yeah, I think that's what drives her to participate because she she believes that everything is going on. I'm against it. You know, I'm not. I'm a pacifist. I'm not going to do it. But when you see such Massive destruction is a purpose one here on DH. If I just sit at home, do nothing. Then I'm off absolutely no relevance. So how I do it. What I do is going to make a difference, so I will fight in the war, but I'll do it my way. You know, and she does it her way, which is very different from some of the other people who fought in the war and absolutely I always believe that there's something with the all have to contribute. On DH instead of getting overwhelmed. You just have to act, you know, just have to act every day and fight everyday. I think that's that's all we can do. US president has mild Coronavirus symptoms

"Has repeatedly tried to convince Americans that the worst of the pandemic is behind us. The president himself and the first lady have now tested positive for the Corona virus. They're staying at the White House with an election on Ly a month away to talk about how this all unfolded overnight and where we stand at this point. We have NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith with a site. Um, Good morning. I guess the first question how the president first lady doing Do we know the White House position? Put out a memo saying they are both well at this time, and that he and others on the medical team will maintain a vigilant watch, he added. Quote. Rest, rest assured, I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption. And that is important because that means vice president Pence doesn't have to step in at this point. A spokesman tells us that both the vice president and second lady Karen Pence were tested this morning and were negative. As for the president and the first lady, they are staying at home at the White House, and an official tells me that the president was in good spirits and that the doctor is optimistic. Corona virus. So is an unpredictable disease. For some people, it can be terrible and deadly. For others. There are no symptoms at all. And we have no way of knowing how it will affect the first lady or president Trump. But at 74 years old, he is in a high risk group and certainly not out of the woods. I mean, as we've seen, people can develop symptoms, you know, days after getting a positive test, so we'll have to be watching. Of course, do it. You have any idea what happened here? I mean, how how the president First lady might have been exposed to a virus. We don't know the chain there. But we did learn last night that a close aide to the President hope Hicks had tested positive. She has been traveling with the president a lot, including flying with him on Air Force one to his campaign rally in Minnesota on Wednesday at around 9 30. Last night, Trump called into Sean Hannity show on Fox News and said that he had been tested and was awaiting results. Then About 1 A.m. president Trump tweeted that he and the first lady had gotten those results and that they both tested positive. A White House official tells me that they're working to figure out how to keep conducting the business of the presidency, with the president having to stay at home. And the person said that the president is going to want to be engaged. He told me quote. He's not one to sit still, that is something we know. I mean, he has not been sitting. Still, he has been out on the campaign trail very active and as many people have noted at rallies So many of them outdoors airplane hangars, But you know a lot of people without mass. It's going to lead a lot of people to wonder. Was he taking enough precautions? Was the White House doing enough to prevent this? President? Trump has been taking risks every single day. People who are in his close proximity do get tested regularly. He is tested regularly. But the White House leaned heavily on those tests and arguably let their guard down. Trump has been holding as you say these big rallies a couple of them indoors. Just yesterday, he held a fundraiser at his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey. And you know Trump and those around him don't regularly wear masks in public or in private at the White House or on Air Force One and it Tuesday night's debate. President Trump even mocked his opponent, Joe Biden, for his frequent mask wearing one needed. I wear mess, OK, let me ask. I don't have. I don't wear mess like him. Every time you see him, he's got a mess. He could be speaking. 200 ft away from him. He shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen, and we have now heard from Joe Biden. He sent a tweet, saying that he and his wife, Jill, are praying for the health and safety of the president and his family and hoping for a swift recovery. We don't know. Yet if Biden's campaign will be changing anything as a result of this, it's just stunning to think about this moment. We have a presidential election four weeks away. We're still in the middle of a pandemic and now the president of the United States in the midst of running for re election. Has tested positive for a very dangerous virus. I mean, what does this totally changed The entire last phases campaign? Yes, absolutely. President. Trump has staked his reelection on the idea that the worst of the pandemic is behind us. For months, He has created a bubble around himself where there was this image that cove. It wasn't a concern that everything was back to normal. The chairs were close together. There were no masks. But this development completely undermines that. I mean, the president of the United States has the virus. This is going to bring the danger home to people and underscores That anyone can get it even if you're the leader of the free world. All right. NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith, We're going to keep following this story, obviously very closely as the hours and days. Go on. Thank you. So much for sharing reporting town.

"America. That was second lady Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, who we will be hearing from later this evening. Next up will be presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway, who recently announced that she is going to be leaving the White House at the end of the month. And, Ah She was President Trump's campaign manager and pollster. She'll be with us in just a minute. But first I want to go to and here she is coming to the podium. Let's listen to what Kellyanne Conway has to say. 100 years ago, Courageous warriors helped women secure the right to vote. This has been a century worth celebrating. But also a reminder that our democracy is young and fragile. A woman in a leadership role can still seem novel. Not so for President Trump. For decades, he has elevated women to senior positions in business and in government. He confides in and consult us respects our opinions and insists that we are on equal footing with the men. President Trump helped me shatter a barrier in the world of politics by empowering me to manage his campaign to its successful conclusion. With the help of millions of Americans are team defied the critics, the naysayers, the conventional wisdom. And we won. For many of us women's empowerment is not a slogan. It comes not from strangers on social media or sanitized language in a corporate handbook. It comes from the everyday heroes who nurture us who shape us and who believe in us. I was raised in a household of all women. They were self reliant and resilient. Their lives were not easy. But they never complained. Money was tight..

Empty The Pews with Ex-Evangelical Chrissy Stroop

"Hi I'm Christie stroup. I'm a transgender. Ex jellicoe sorry not sorry so you and I first met on twitter. I think around two thousand seventeen shortly after the election. Your Twitter Bio Reids X. Evangelical Writer and Russian History PhD Trans Girl and sometimes snark Easter. I'd like frito briefly. Tell us a little bit about your childhood. Where did you grow up? What was your childhood like so I grew up mostly in north suburb of Indianapolis called. Fisher's was born a small town in Northern Indiana. But my family moved down there When I was around five years old and after kindergarten and with the exception of half of sixth grade I was in Christian schools the entire time of my elementary and secondary education. And when I say Christian school I don't mean a Jesuit Academy or something like that you know the The schools that call themselves Christian schools or Christian Academy's they're usually more like the ones where second lady Karen Pence teaches art where they're very anti. Lgbtq or they mobilized the kids for doing culture wars kind of advocacy and involvements. Illiberal civics if you will so you know. I had a drilled into my head in church and Christian schools from a very early age that liberals are these horrible people who kill babies and we have to stop them and we also have to stop gay people from having rights. Can you talk a little bit? About the history of Evangelical Ism sure the Histories of Evangelical Ism that have been written a lot of them have been written by people who come out of the more like moderate to liberal tradition evangelical right if somewhat sympathetic to it and they want to locate the origins of Evangelical Ism and things like the second grade awakening in the abolitionist movement. And it's true that a kind of evangelical protestantism was a motivating factor for the abolition of slavery in Britain and the United States. But that's not really the ancestor the direct ancestor of what we call evangelical protestantism or what it has mostly become in the United States today. If you WANNA look at what evangelical ISM is in the United States today. And here we're talking mostly about white evangelical. There are some evangelical of color that would also fall into this category but there are also some Christians of color that some people would call evangelical somewhat not someone self defined as evangelical than some would not clear very different and they vote very differently. But you know this right mostly white evangelicalism. It's the descendant of slaveholders Christianity. It's you know the descendant of denominations involved is still all these denominations as well like the Southern Baptist Convention which split off of other Baptists over the issue of slavery because you know these northern Baptist groups decided that they didn't want they didn't think slave owners should be missionaries what became the Southern Baptist Convention. Thought that was very insulting so they broke away so they could have missionary owned slaves. And you know this is also seriously inflected through the Cold War anti communism and in American history that's really inseparable from the civil rights. Movement are far right-wing anticommunist they denounce Martin Luther King as a communist that sort of thing and you know initially people like Jerry Falwell senior. Who of course built the moral majority you know he? He mobilized Christians around opposition to civil rights legislation and integration and today evangelical. Who are still very much in that tradition They try to distance themselves from that history but it is their history and my history too. I mean I grew up that way and they still vote to uphold white supremacism. Even if they won't admit it and there's another key moment there too that I sort of forgot to go over earlier. Which is there. Were these debates in theology in the early twentieth century between the so-called modernists. Who are able to move away from Biblical liberalism and the fundamentalists and this is actually where the term fundamentalists came from. There is a series of pamphlets published starting in Nineteen fifteen called the fundamentals and today's evangelical are also very much the descendants of the fundamentalist side of those early twentieth century debates so evangelical in the United States. It's best to consider the type of fundamentalist Christianity even if some evangelical fundamentalists would define themselves against each other. If we take a step back and look at it through kind of a scholarly framework. It's it's very much a variety of Christian fundamentalism. I wanted to get a better understanding of really what your life was. Like as an evangelical Christian. Can you describe that to me? I mean were you happy yeah. That's a complicated question. And the kind of things that happen to you. When you end up rejecting the ideology when you change politically and religiously from your family and a high demand religious group and a thorough -tarian religious group like this. You know people will accuse you of quote unquote attacking everything we stand for a direct. I heard from multiple relatives of mine. They will accuse you of hating your entire childhood but I did not hate my entire childhood and they don't hate my entire childhood. Now I also definitely didn't get the worst of Evangelical Ism so as we now know there was a big expose. I think over seven hundred cases as far as I recall last year. Were exposed of child sexual abuse and cover ups in the Southern Baptist Convention. You know that didn't happen to me I. I didn't get the worst kind of corporal punishment. The worst guy was being spanked with a wooden spoon. But corporal punishment is highly emphasized and Evangelical Communities Spare the Rod and spoil the child and all that and any fundamentalist group they create these kind of parallel institutions and structures this whole parallel society alongside mainstream American society. So they look at outsiders as quote unquote the world. That's the phrase that they use. The world is scary. You're supposed to kind of go into it. Sometimes and convert people but most of our social life was people we knew through church and Christian school and so I was isolated that way and then they also build up kind of a whole system of as I said parallel institutions and even publishing houses books a Christian music industry this sort of stuff to reinforce a set of alternative facts if you will and to kind of expose and highlight that a couple years ago I coined the Hashtag Christian facts to look at the kinds of alternative facts that children raised in. This environment are indoctrinated with you. Know things like the Loch ness monster might be real. And that's more proof that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time you know. There's a lot of really really really wild stuff. Some of it has much more well. Maybe just differently problematic implications and that I mean once you start to get into things like purity culture and what I like to call fake sex. Ed they tell you things like you know. Condoms can't stop the AIDS virus. Abortion causes breast cancer and lots of other stuff that's just completely made up
