"It like pulling up surprised. They were that vigo got above the title on a perfect murder. He was a thing. Yeah and this thing. I had to sort of like i. I don't think i wrote this. But i was drafted this in my head and decide to close my computer instead. Smart always smart idea. It's a a method of Self care i've been practicing a lot lately pretty you thank you There is the thing that happens. Sometimes hollywood's like we're putting this guy above the title. Not because he's been a lead yet not because he's proven but we're so confident. This guy's a movie stars. Were they asked. he's so hot he's so good like it's gotta happen right. We'll just put him there. And everyone will say i guess that belongs. He should be the and then he sort of just like he was like no. I wanna do my poetry and photography actively avoid it and to lord of the rings a movie he got hired onto like five days filming starter and then everyone was like great you're vigo mortenson now and he's like no thank you pass double dog owners like absolutely not. Yeah anyway penis great pain. I don't remember it. It's it's it's got its good. Don't don't well. In the eastern promises seen obviously. He's you know crumbling with some some thailand. Right flip it's a lot of flapping. Yeah yeah all right anyway. This of course has been our episode on escape from new york beginning ending with extended peanut conversations. We really took it full circle. We really did. I don't know. I was going to try on there. But i don't know i was circle. I couldn't figure it out terron. Is there anything or want to plug. I don't think so. You can follow me on twitter at karen on I'm trying to think about what. Karen karen's boys you watched. The video will be coming out. How you're putting so much pressure me okay. We'll sorry twenty. Okay thank you yeah. I don't know their stuff that i'm working on it but i don't know if i'm allowed to talk about it so i'll just say go. Follow me on twitter. I will probably talk about it. They're keep your eyes peeled. And i thought i'd just had now. I don't know if this bleak. But you could make the next k b video in in memoriam 'cause we're realizing how many we've lost the last three years and that might be a way to change the format. I feel like i have to do well. This has been a question to where it's like. I did two years in a row. And here's the song boys both times. Do i keep using the same song. I don't think i'm allowed to use that. As an in memoriam the town is can live with. Here's my question. I want to do like a sad piano cover. Yeah interesting bright. Is this disrespect. No it's the opposite you're paying the utmost respect. Okay right because it's like you were so hot when you were alive right. I'm in now. We miss you so much to think about some of the oscars and they'll be like yeah. We'll be played this instead of our in memoriam which makes everyone angry every year. "That and used cars covered in the past and those are sort of him building the bridge to adulthood adult movie stardom. And this is the thing that i think finally codifies it. I was checking. What you're used cars was just double check in nineteen eighty. I just put used cars into google came. Up bunch of cars for sale card deals. No isn't it like a terrible time. i think so. I think there's like because all those rental companies when they couldn't rent out cars sold a lot of the cars and but then now they've been buying up all the us. There's a run on so you should just eyeing those are hard to get. You can't get a microchip because covert or you know what i mean. We're like i've heard that too weird. How the world's been thrown upside. Yes i was just going to say you know. Elvis was the first time if felt like that Perhaps a director had really latched. Onto what ca- russell could do rights because even used cars is kind of casting him as version of the disney. Troch right if he's a manic. You know charmer but who's a schyster and kind of dog right. He's got a cute face for tv but he's not to be trusted and carpenter was sort of like people. Don't realize how fucking good kurt russell is. Worked with this guy. He did this major. Fuck in very long. Tv miniseries Movie playing a wildly iconic person and he went so hard did so much research nailed that He should really be taken seriously. But it's a tv movie right there. They're still very much is a ghetto to those at the time his i thought as we said is going to someone like tommy lee jones. Who's an obvious fit for this or someone like charles bronson who You know had done too many movies like this. You saw the quote right carpenters. Like i was afraid of working with him. He was a big star. And was this little shit. Nobody partner back as absurd as that is lake. Post halloween For him to think chuck bronson was a big deal at the end. As you said it would have become a charles brown. Scary dude scare. Yeah sentence joke one of my favorites of all time. Which is we're we're charles. Bronson is like a stand in on like the phil silvers that we now have to find it. And it's like all right i'm gonna look i feel kind of nice. But he lured agree. On the andy griffith show. That's okay don't you remember what happened to And he's like i shot him. Yes what i'm going to go to like. Eddie's fix it to fix eddie. Say the jokes that he's barney. Pfizer plays yes right. okay yes he was. Just the guy looks intimidating and certainly if you're drunk carpenter and you're fairly young in. This has been a movie star for decades and has his own fucking thing figured out. I imagine to be a little bit of like what you hear. With the later period. Bruce willis where he's just like and i'm not gonna listen to you you. I know what i'm doing. I'm bruce bruce wetlands or you use this youngest movies okay. You guys are the karen. Do you know this no. That's apparently the bruce willis thing that he liked test them on the first day. About how well they know their lenses and if they get it wrong he's like you know you're talking about never listened to get my god right. Because people will be like willis incredibly rude people be like worked resources fucking nightmare and then someone like west asking won't be like a sweetheart man and it's just like west. Nail lend has threatened with ryan johnson. Yeah and steven soderbergh's like oh it's an iphone. Totally johnson cameras picture confused when he cast russell in the av industry was really like the guy he had a good time with them on the elvis movie but come on this is like a whole different thing and i even just imagine in terms of marketing for the movie. It must have been sort of like. He's nowhere on the marketing. The movie i mean obviously it's very iconic poster but yeah it's all selling you on. What if new york was a big prison concept to open your movie with like minute one. He's like All of manhattan is a prison island. It's the best is truly the best those graphics all the graphics in this are so great. You guys the wire frame thing right they. Well i'd i'd certainly maybe maybe getting like the computer view of the city as the plane is going. I took ben. And i went to go see this drive in a couple of months ago. We did a robocop escape from new york. Double which was a real ben. Griff night yeah. It was refund but in robocop does a very similar trick but when they are flying the plane over the buildings he could not afford. This could be as dan to as expensive as like star. Trek has one shot of a hand. That cost like a million dollars probably that they had the license from capitol So it is just like a godzilla sized model of city that was painted jet black and then they put green reflective tape over it and it's completely analog looked so it looks so fucking cool. Robocup does the same thing with robocop has thermal vision when the the guy who lost the mayoral election is like holding. Everyone hostage where they're wearing bodysuits. That just have thermal imaging painted on them now. We should mention. Who was the photographer in charge of photography for the special effects and matt and stuff Would jimmy jimmy say. We'll talk about it. We'll talk about but here we're getting to have okay okay. So j. pulled up in the the original the original draft of the original conception of the movie. It was only supposed to be six years in the future..

"There was an accident about an hour ago. A small jet went down inside new york city. The podcast was on board the podcast of what. That's what he wanted to do. Was like the podcast of doesn't mean anything. Find them. the other one was the. It's a survival of the podcast. Plus can something. You don't give a shit about that. Is pretty good. That i mean. That's that's that's a good line. That's just a great god. This movies such this movie's frontloaded with good lines first. Twenty minutes shirt. you're just like oh my god. It's cleveland leafing. Rustler right those are two guys. Yeah it's also like i feel like russell has acknowledged how much skin is like vocally eastwood right right him during his eastwood impression. So there's something about like a young buck with an eye patch. Is that true though. Like it has a talked about it at all day. It's supposed to be okay. Yeah there was some quote from him. I think in in the notes that our on jay bruce Put together where he was talking about. All the different parts. That went into place says right. He's a mercenary. His style of fighting is a combination of bruce lee. the exterminator and darth vader with eastwood's vocals. But there's a lot of new wave to him. Yeah exactly a lot of shine and bounce through his hair. The like lisa says gop pants or the gray cammo when issuing the pattern. So good to people in the dossier. I know charles bronson was the one and then there was another tommy lee jones. Fight events dare. I say would've rocked them. But here's the only problem. Tommy lee jones with that hair off. I mean under siege. He's got long hair but the only problem is i. Don't buy the tommy lee. jones would go into. He'd be like no. He doesn't wanna do that. It doesn't seem like someone who wants to do. Yes yes there's. There's the satirical edged that comes only from russell playing it from him sort of being a little bit in on the joke and i think it's aided by the fact that it's like for audiences you're watching a. Disney star now playing the toughest guy in a fucking university. It just feels like it would be like me seeing tommy lee jones in personal. Don't you want to be in this movie. But now i don't wanna do that. Russell was the right choice. I'm just saying tony. jones would have fit trump. ransom would have been a problem. He would've just been overwhelming. He would have been doing charles bronson right right probably to a certain degree it's like there's the fact that he's so fully creates a character for this movie. You know you think about other like action icons especially of the eighties. Right and their breakthrough movie is kind of the distillation of there being persona you know. It's like whoa mclean. That's now it's taken. All the sitcom comedy past willis it putting him into this underdogs or ornery mode right and like arnold breaks through paying barbarians and robots And still loan being this sort of like weary underdog this broken guy. I mean he's new counselors eighties. And he's mysterious like a calm and trae funny to think about. In retrospect yes that he says that everyone's like what's this guy's -til walks into a room. And i wanna know it. I want to know why all of those other people were like their with their current percents. I'm like i. That still totally jives with what i think percents but steven seagal looking at him now. I can't watch old movies anymore. It's like that it just don't work for its it's wild it's wild it's also just look we did our whole steven seagal episode. Get under siege dark territory episode in the past. This is true. And i will just jump in and say i kind of agree. It's like i loved seagal movies growing up. There's just something about who he has become. That's like real sticky for some years ago now longtime if not more and i feel like he just gets worse by the hour. Absolutely like uncut. Every morning i opened up the laptop. And i check chemical deterioration rate again like you ever go to new york times and i look at the chart i'm like how's the spread of delta going. What is called today. What has devalued in the seagal universe. It's just fascinating that steven seagal is just like. Oh like hollywood power agents and executives are going to his karate dojo and they're just like this guy is fascinating and needs to be on screaming watching. I think i figured him out pretty quickly. He's pretty compelling. He's compelling in those early com mystery. Very this is my point. Just van damme. I don't think van damme ever quite had that correct. And it's why maybe he was never quite the the a yes. This is dr and van. Damme movies. But i do think there was not that crystallization role for him. And that's like flexible. Roddy actor now. Do we have like a guy who's good at martial arts actor. Yes but they are stuck in direct to video direct red box. I'm michael j. white and scott adkins right physical either that or their foreign actors. Tony someone like mostly. I'm trying to think of the american. Those are just generally they don't get to do big screen pre-bus yes everything. Now so you can make anyone look like a. They can do impossible physical movements. And i don't know abo i i've thrown out this bullshit before but the fact that like on iron fist. They would like show him the choreography. Thirty minutes before he had to start filming. Not only do they not hire a guy with a background. Which of cleveland needed him right. Oh i thought if someone ronda rousey yet but she didn't really take off like any movies right. I jus good and curious. She's at odds gets he gives. She's just she is. I think she was so charismatic. In the ring and in interviews that people were like this is going to translate. Gina chronicle was like physically impressive but was kind lacking in personality for awhile. Swimming rowzee like did poly obvious. Maybe there's not a thing here. Yeah it's funny that we're having this conversation. When kurt russell probably punches to people total in this movie fight in the ring. That's a little more like he's not. Even this is not normal honey where they're all sorts of slow getting a little goofy too and he looks. I mean i think he's so handsome but you know it doesn't have like a body like is insane or anything like pretty. He looks. jen shape earns. You looks good but compared to some of the guys. We've been schwarzenegger tape.

"He also has spoken about the The the fact that he was blacklisted in interviews on the parasite press tour seeing that it didn't necessarily affect him as much as some of the other. They're more politically controversial directors. who were blacklisted in South Korea? That said I also it does seem like a huge moment in South Korea. Just because has he's made to film the two films that he made prior to making parasite we're both at least half English co-productions but didn't net him the kind of success that at this very singularly Korean movie did leading up to the film's Premiere. He expressed a few worries. That non Korean audiences might not resonate with a film as much as create on. Its his. But that's obviously been proven to be false because the themes of capitalism and worrying about what you can do for your family will not trampling down somebody nobody else in order to do so those themes resonate with everybody who's seen the film We must say that. This is the latest in a real sort of gotcha fantastic Asian films and filmmaking. Whether it's crazy Asians whether it's the farewell whether it's all bunk films and now parasites and we have to say that he's the I will Disney to come away with four Major Oscars but I wanna ask you a O Scott about the other issues news that we're controversial the basic lack of diversity as you've just mentioned sort of you know women directors nominated no so Except for Cynthia Borrego do not diminish her incredible acting feet in Harriet. To be to be nominated Janelle monae you. You know was very pointed in her rousing and Raucous really brilliant opening number up you know. She said she used parasite to rhyme with Oscarssowhite uh-huh and you saw the crowd. They're the very well heeled crowd reacts very favourably to her what is it with with the Oscars. I mean there was a period. They seem to have pulled back from Oscarssowhite and and now as sort of back to normal. Well it's it's I mean that's the frustrating waiting thing about about paying attention to the Oscars and and and and in investing anything in them which which which we all do I mean they. They are an important part of of the industry and a of of popular culture. And it's sort of often feels like a step forward two steps back so a few years ago when when Moonlight won best picture sure that was a moment it felt a lot as I recall the way it fell to watch parasite win. Best Picture here was the thing that you didn't think was going to happen. That you didn't think could happen that it at at that moment looked like wasn't happening that turned out to to happen but the the it's not just a problem of the academy. We have to say I mean. It's a problem of the American film industry and to some extent of of American Society Diversion Diversity inclusion representation these these czar issues that that are are tricky to solve. It takes a lot of time and and a lot of continued pushing so so it was discouraging to see that Lupita neon go did not get the nomination that she deserved for us. The Jennifer Lopez did not get the nomination that she very much deserved for for hustlers that that the farewell was was was was pretty much Invisible at at at the Oscars and in a way that the the winds parasite can sort of cover over or distract attention from what would have been the story. I think that would have been that we. We've been talking about if nineteen seventeen or Joe Joe. Rabbit had had one which is which is the continued sort of out of touch and and narrowness us and non inclusiveness of the Oscars and of of Hollywood. And this is something that is that is that is not going to go away. The encouraging thing is that there are a lot the people who are using their position in the industry. People like Vernay and Ryan Kugler and Barry Jenkins who are not not what sort of resting on their own lawyer laurels but pushing to to make the industry more representative more inclusive more responsive More Democratic well we will keep watching AO Scott. Thank you so much Karen Han as well and we turn now to an incredible real life story radio host lots of NASA who one day made the shock discovery that not only did he share his name with someone else he shed it with detainee. Two four four four at Guantanamo Bay Prison Abdul Latiff Nassir is suspected of being one of Osama bin Laden's most important advises his lawyers say that he was never even in al Qaeda though the other Latif's joins a hurry three of us in the studio to discuss his search for the truth in this podcast called the other latiff also joining them is the award winning New York Times journalist Cower Rosenberg whose in Miami and been reporting on Guantanamo Bay since two thousand and two. I want to start with you here. Who is the other? Well thanks for having me this whole story about the other. If it started I was on twitter. I saw a tweet that I thought was about me but it wasn't. It was about a guy who had my same name and it turned out that guy. I was detained. Two four four at Guantanamo Bay and. What's the accused of she? There is a pretty heinous laundry list of things that the US the US government has claimed in these leaked or declassified documents that he has done Everything from being a top explosives expert for al Qaeda Blowing up the famed world. Cultural Heritage Sites The Bamiyan Buddhas fighting on the frontlines of the battle of Tora Bora the one where Osama bin Laden got away and we wouldn't catch him another ten years You know there's a pretty long and damning list and he's been there for how long now he's been there since May two two thousand two without charges without a trial just been there and he is technically what Freeman. I mean allowed to leave so this this was the detail that really hooked me into this story. which was that? I found that there was well first of all his as lawyer claims that much of that Wunderlist of of charges against him are totally species and falls but the thing that hooked me was that in two thousand Sixteen Ecksteen he had this parole board type hearing call the PR be hearing where six different representatives of top agencies of the government came together in unanimously. Asli decided to that the US didn't need him any need to keep him anymore. That wasn't a continuing threat and that he should go back home to Morocco. Go where he's from so he was cleared to go back home. But what happened was the some kind of bureaucratic blog. Luke Jam something happened. That made it that. The the the paperwork didn't get finalized hill right right the moment when all the Obama people were going out. The trump people were coming in trump had tweeted that he didn't want to let anybody out of Guantanamo. And so this guy got sort of stuck right right in that crack we forget. I think a lot of times that there are still prisoners in Guantanamo. Abdellatif is not the only one there he's got. What thirty nine other people bul? Also there's a total of forty detainees at Guantanamo Hari. That's true and he's one of them. He's also one of five men who who are in a similar situation where they've been approved for release with security attachments so technically league they should not be there or could not be there but did not get out at the end of the Obama Administration which is when all transfers out of Guantanamo about one stopped in Carol. This is also happening at a time when right now in the news is witness testimony from some of the psychologists just who helped the CIA use. What is known as an enhanced interrogation techniques in could also be called torture? Even the very word whether it's torture are not being debated but this is what happened to some of these men before they even got to Guantanamo. Yes what's happening. Is that it over in the court short portion of Guantanamo. Not The prison. There are pretrial hearings in the case of the five men accused of plotting the nine eleven terrorist attacks and before they can get to trial they have to deal with the legacy of torture and so they have been looking at what happened to those men in the three and four years. They spent in the CIA black sites before they got to Guantanamo. So a lot of did this man admit to something. What does he have remorse? Does he have guilt. That he say something that would justify having kept him there for as long as he's been so far so so according to his lawyer and that's I'm not allowed to talk to him so I can only talk to his lawyer. He didn't do anything wrong he he. Maybe did maybe he acted in a way that was suggestively or maybe he was. He was mixed stuck with some people who did some things wrong but as far as what he did he did not do anything wrong but but especially. She didn't do the kinds of things that that he's being charged with whether he is he. It's a tricky question of whether he express remorse because you obviously can't express S. remorse for something you didn't do and he hasn't been charged and he hasn't been charged with that said the there is that parole hearing where he would have expressed remorse. He did. I did have remorse. Those transcripts are are unavailable to me. So it's very parsing out the logic object of what this guy do. What did he say he did what his lawyer say he did? What are the government? Say He did parsing out that logic is it gets very complicated very quickly if you went to Morocco and you looked into information from other countries to find more about the other lots of what I did finding finding all these places. Is that the story I went in expecting and part prime by this department of Defense Document also impart prime by his lawyer. Those stories just just got flipped upside down and inside out the stories that I expected. So for instance. I'll tell you that the dod document commit. There's this one group in Morocco that is said to be sort of almost like on ramp in the world of extremism radicalized him. What radicalized him? It's this is a picture painted of this this group in Morocco as a group that wanted to overthrow the government group that wanted to usher in Islamic state. I'm reading there's something. Oh God this. Is this group that this guy joined in college when I start to look into it further when I start to experts on the group I mean it was an anti monarchy monarchy group. It was a pacifist group. It was a group that had soup. Kitchens that would give out you know. Do Vaccination drives. This was a group that wanted elections. That's why they were anti-monarchy. They wanted the elections. It was a time when Morocco was a much more repressive place than it is today. So so this group all of a sudden it was going in thinking. I was looking at Isis. And then all of a sudden wait wait a second. They look kind of like the founding fathers. Actually when you look at them that way and so and that sort of surprise just sort of kept happening more more and more sort of throughout this guy's life story and in a way it's interesting like like like tracing historic. He almost felt like this like like forrest. Gump of the war on terror. Like you were just seeing these different places and you're like oh wow that totally reshapes. The Way I think of that moment carol money or stories you literally went out and did the math on how how this costs the United States. I mean so I guess in in one term we could look at the cash. And that's what you looked at. But also this continuing doing kind of extra judicial process. What does it do to our legal? Dare I say kind of moral leadership standing in the world to so. How much does it cost to keep people in Guantanamo so we studied the public figures? What we know is spent on the prison in the court? Not The base. Not Anything associated with Guantanamo Navy base. which would be there? Even if they prison court went away we took the total sum of of what was spent in. I think it would be two thousand eighteen and and divided it by the number of detainees and came up with over thirteen million dollars a year per detainee to be there now. I had a commander once who said to me. You Know Carol. If you WANNA make it cheaper we can add more prisoners and you would bring the per. Prisoner costs down but the reality is that the planning has conceived achieved if more prisoners. Come they'll need more military police which is surprising because right now there are eighteen hundred one thousand eight hundred..

"Then to the altro cure or the palm you'd lose tense it just as good fade out as a fate in. I agree completely. I think it ends a strong as it starts That's rare I think. Yeah it's a great call. I I love the drums on the song. I love the way they use the kick to fill in the spots between I. I actually Kinda Miss. This era of music obviously nostalgia but I feel drumming with so much more interesting than it is now. Modern music doesn't have a lot of real drums. No it's the noises lot more constant and I mean this is very symbol. We'll heavy show what's not to like. I agree I mean other than the entire context of the lyrics. Yeah so great and I mean we screamed so hard the whole time maritime and we knew it was coming. Thank you also. Also I feel like we kept throwing her hands to the sky with a finger pointing Hui singing out when we sing this song. You know like there's something happens it's just the weaving. It feels emotionally self empowerment anthem. Yeah but the lyrics. There's just so not that if we skip the verses yes we cut them pretty aggressive classes. Great with feels like we're in church. How the real dramatic monologue? Where it's like I am okay? Yeah like I'm fucked up and that's okay. And then we get to the versus. And he's like M. Mr Steal your girl open baby teeth only got a dentist. God it was right there. The whole time little Shahbahar. Yeah he was like please over that mouth. I gotTA check those actually. Yeah now thinking about it. That's pretty gross anyway. Fine so how would you punch up Karen would you would you. What would you do would make the bridge better? We pretty much discussed what I would do. Recap because I have no memory. It has to be more dynamic has to be louder. More like Kelly Clarkson breakaway and do the counter melodies the at the end amazing. Those are simple notes. So that's the songs kind of going to be the same. The thing is the song ever written. Maybe I might take the liberty of tweaking the Verse make a little less. Just the lyrics. Well I think we could define a bit more. Is this a personal story. Or is the Spiderman Because I don't love love me. It's it's totally spiderman until the fingers. In the mouth part firming denomination that I mean you don't know what he did behind closed doors you might spend himself itself into a little cocoon looking like photo when he gets briefly captured by she loved. I'm so glad we got back to Lord of the Rings which I've always considered the sister piece to spiderman the Rings Spiderman in Spiderwoman Aka. She Lob okay well. I think I could offer me Spiderman. Two best movie ever made Yanni edwy reestablish up yep vindicated by dashboard confessional singer for it and yes and if anyone has their hands on that original spiderman that has the fingers ooh grab around I was like I need a sure thing. I would love to hear that as well Chris. I will forgive you instantly. I have to say I'm a huge viewpoints. At least not song. If you song I will stop making fun of that. I can't say your last name. Abracadabra okay I have one more now yes while I was listening any of this I was like what if part of the appeal is that Chris. Career idea it's fucking to convert the ours and the bees Chris. Chris Carrabba corral if his he has a good voice screaming through this. What if some somebody like Brennan Eerie or Brandon Flowers? That's awesome killers cover vindicated when I am a Yeah yeah to Mr Bryson. Who else do to flowers impression? Indicate it it's not good soon. Went for it. I knew it without said Shit. We got jabs kimball into this Karen. Yeah I almost forgot this as a bit. Okay I have. It's not a bit. It's very serious. I appreciate you took it curious. So all of these suggestions that I thought about giving you to punch jam not punishable where like all movie violated whereas like the other one is just do we should do. The Lion King's be prepared. And you were like maybe two deranged and now I love this song. I just think I don't know I feel like it's I don't know what I would say because it's perfect..

"Deep now. This is a profane vein. Chris idea chap around. If we're going to go into this conversation this is upsetting right. I did it really. It was explicit. I mean spy yeah. He's nothing but a boy with too much responsibility. Not having sex. He'll be too distracted to keep the city of New York safe safe. He's kind of the story yet. Spike must stay a virgin for all of our things. Oh I will die on the hill I really did. You see the most recent you did see it because you know most reset okay. But I did I went to the premiere of the one before I loved it. It's great I wanNA when he dare or or like. Maybe we'll kiss. I'm like I really hope. They kiss did they. Not The new one. It's so nice. I cried because they kiss and then slowly from the on the frame his little spotty hand slipped up and just stuff to cannon herself. When the finger out happened I was like Oh my God and the day I was like Yum yum fingers? God this this is my nightmare. It's so gross to me especially if it's like nothing maybe if you're like in the middle of sexual activity but that's the only thing you do. I I I can't imagine a context in which I really like like find that like hot. Maybe a weird bit where I'm like all I be your finger like fine fine but like just you just recreate Charlie. It's my cost. I love to role playing the bedroom shortly grisly. I can't imagine any any circumstance under which under which I'd be like ooh I can one one can. Yes okay if your role playing role playing is lady and the tramp suckling that Spaghetti. But there's no other ended up spaghetti as a really long finger you and then you're kissing the knuckle. Eventually we'll take some time curve the finger and goes in. I don't know Chris I curse you for making me. Think about this. I never thought what about this in this amount of detail. I mean this already. We know the song is like kind of a bummer. Because he's being like man. Fuck you your mind. I mean me. This is why it's a terrible song. You should not no. We're not. We're not rooting for you. Chris Matty and now you will show you. I'm reading few even less. Yeah I'm trying to break her defense down. "Ought to put my fingers in your mouth. He's like I know you're engaged. This technically isn't anything you could get in trouble. I would love to know now into. Can I put my fist in your mouth. Because I already know it fits in mind. That's tired terrain. I've done that before. But you know what I really want to explore your mouth that smacker smacker hear me out what has won them and belongs in your mouth my right hand washed. It is fine. We're having you like the season and do you know like a little. It tastes like you don't know but it's a mystery that we can both look forward to find behind. What does that happen in the movie? Put his finger emerging. Do that so that you know if you did that I feel like I remember the upside down. Kiss and then famously. The scene where he makes hand flat like he's feeding a horse and where he takes his pinky finger and just put sits through the first mainstream representation for finger slash mouth play fingers mouth they. I've said it once say it twice doesn't get enough play. It doesn't get enough play. I know what the fuck is this line. I know he was like well. I'm writing the song. I'm pretty much only writing to try to up my status status with Leah Sony. Maybe he'll sneak in weird king. I have right. This is the only thing missing from the oral history. or it's like what's going on with Oral History Baby. I didn't WanNa say anything says something is new. I was Gonna I like the way. The chorus transitioned into the bridge. The the transition is good but the bridges uninteresting comparative to the chorus. Tell me why music genius I. It's just it's it's slows it down it also is As dynamic like it doesn't move as much it's not like at least it's not like a lot of the Mo- enough an exactly it's like you need a course in this. That's like the chorus and breakaway. Like it's got to go up and it's got move. Okay so hyder man. Did you want the A Bridge to match the energy of the chorus it either has to it has to match it or not be so like it has to at least come close or exceed. What what does it just cut to? I don't know doc doing a monologue like I la thriller I will have Apple Alfred. Molina just doing some Shakespeare quick. They should have done. He's you so good. He reads poetry in the fucking movie. He seems like the coolest man alive. He really seems like just the world sweetheart the heart We have no choice but to Stan. The moly man. He's beautiful. Okay here we go. Yeah Bridge part to the taste one against the current slip away. I love the Tom had boom boom. That is good that I loved the jumps on this. Let me slip away as soon as the traditions of that. You're back on. It's just like the rest of it. I find and a little milk toasts. What about the little guitar? That feels peak. Two thousand three but death cab for Cutie get asked yeah. I feel you could put that somewhere in one of the final one of the last two verses using That's your little flavor. I hear are you to spice it up now that we have established structure Where it's like you know what this is going to be but do you think again? I totally what he said was traced the moment fall forever and then in the lyrics but Defense is paper birthing which I believe her defense. Yeah we're just being no wave just one touch and I'd be in the mouth again once. I put my fist at your mouth agreeing to get a tasty digging in too deep now to ever swim against the current so let me slip away. Oh whoa what is this a sex thing. This feels like a sex thing. I wish early. No but not this viscerally. Okay sure to slip touch too deep now. This is a profane vein. Chris idea chap around. If we're going to go into this conversation this is upsetting right. "Music was a theme for Comic Book movie made so much more sense than what now CR WHAT IS I? Don't think we'll ever later. There's so much like nostalgia. pivoting back like guardians of the galaxy so like oldies music. Do you think you'll get to a point. Yeah whatever but like do you think there's there'll be a point where the super berries back to just being. No I mean I'll take it. Yeah if anybody. Hey listen you Sony peeps listen to this who makes Spiderman notes marvel now any Disney people. Listening to this we would love to get an email soundtrack for your next comic book film. I think really set your partners. The team Peter Parker always. I should've been his name but it's fine. You're absolutely thank you. So Leia goes. Hey Chris we'd love to have you almost soundtrack not in the movie. Not Obviously as the single just like on the soundtrack which I guess at the time and maybe still there there moves really soundtracks as a companion problems. Yeah like a mood member garden state. Although I think that actually wasn't the film Oh but yeah you know what I'm saying is like an album away to make additional money so we sent her a song which is far as I can tell. This song was never actually released. But it gets approved and on the soundtrack. And here's that Song Alive Clip. That's right. They released the Great Song. Why can't stream the Chris? I need a sure thing. He's a real lease. At so slaps. It's really good. The best part about that video pulled from his the girl going. Start Your being really loud outer talking that gets approved. And it's going on the soundtrack so what happens. How did we get here? Where did vindicate come from a Song that had been written yet since their friends? Leah's like hey do you wanna just come see an unfinished version. We can watch it together at the Sony Lot. And he's like sure so they loved it. Great moves on with his life. Because it's the best is partially in Pencil animation nations. Still still the best so he was just like seeing sequences cutting between like real footage and then just like and here's what it well locally and he's still loved it which I don't I mean it's a fantastic movie so he's in in Hawaii tour and he has a day off and he's getting jammed Chicago Surf. But you real quick as well my coffee brewing noodle and guitar for a minute so he picks up her insurance playing thing and suddenly vindicated pours out of him. Here's what he says. I didn't get to surf on that trip but it was well worth it it kind of just like spilled out. It wasn't like I wrote the thing with Spiderman in mind. The song is about me and my life experience. When I finished the song I realized that the spark of inspiration some of it might eight of come from having seen a story I related to so recently might have? Here's the thing that's such a circular argument it's known inspired by this at all but also the seeds were so similar. That is what he says in this oral history I should mention by my good friend. esters Ackerman at first but also like it seems like every other interview that he did about this long he was like the I saw spared. Admit to nose so inspired and I want to go ten minutes pick Elaine. which what is it because he even says I called Leeann? I say Leah Look Doc got this other song. You don't WanNa pull the brakes on anybody. I'm just some kid. This is the big machine I just said look I get it and these songs are going to be the single. I get it if you don't I want to change it but I just kind of feel relationship between this song in the movie. If there's any chance you know we could switch it out. which is someone? That's fairly well versed in Hollywood word. That's a crazy kamikaze. All that's GONNA do usually like ten out of ten times as heard never work with you again and she's ensure shit knocking actually do what you're asking. It's it's a CRA- I mean. Do you know how many hands to go through the legal everything the licensing like. They've already probably have started like printing and releasing the set lists like. It's crazy right right. but when it's vindicated so she he she goes okay. I need you to cut a demo. All which already the most patient woman in the World Leah. If you're listening huge fan I would happily play warrior with you which is of course when I pay my booth. Okay so at the venue where they're playing the show at because again I believe they're on tour He's asked the guy after soundcheck. Hey can you just roll on this. And they record the the demo of indicated he kinda sends it to her I think supposedly according to him but again he made himself untrustworthy unreliable narrator absolutely sends it to her in his like who who goes. Here's the thing you've got to get in the studio like tomorrow because this by I the thing I mean it's like ours in Wilson Citizen Kane being like. I don't know I was just messing around. I thought you might like I hate that. This actually we happened because I think this is what convinced himself is going to happen. How art works just so painful getting sandwich and someone stopping it was like you need to be in star wars a Those stories don't ever have except this time it takes for Chris Koroma okay so he has to fly straight back to La and make this God damn song. They immediately have to make this music video now long after their since shooting they turn a whole Brooklyn slot into docs. It's DOC's slayer but then when you watch the video is it sure mosh one pinterest border like I can do that to her. The Home Depot Classic Music Video Resource. Yes I do think they probably had like two weeks attorney. which with that in mind? This is pretty impressive That this song just came out of nowhere I did read that the producer that worked on it also produce a lot of good charlotte so I feel forever in his debt for my entire child but no no. He does stick with the point of the lyrics line with the plot of spider to purely coincidental to spider two. That's what we call it in the best kind of her in the film. Business the truth Obama's spider to the Lingo so in spider to Doc ock as he really says it's a metaphor for the most literal thing. I had this little drinking. You can't pick one thing. He can't listen. He goes so far to try to justify how to not about Spiderman. He's his little trinkets that was given to me by someone special and I couldn't get her. I had this little thing. I didn't have it on a necklace. I had it on a string and I walked around my neck and I take it off and like twirler so as reading this is just like oh boy like I don't think any of its no. I had so literal along with this girl who was somebody else's gross way to talk about a person and I wanted her to be mine. I wanted to be hers. I guess that's less possessive sounding. So you Chris Chris I take it off and like you know we do when you're holding something like a pendulum. I don't think anyone does that. I mean maybe maybe like DOC ock. He doesn't do that either but like a cartoon villain might the cat. Although more relatable than a pendulum petting a cat. Yeah unless you're like flipping over an hour. Glass users like an ominous holding pendulum indicated was about flipping. My hand dangle glass I mean again. It's a terrible fog but it's great but it's real because he used to say eh I twist it and like let it wind out his necklace on history so I was writing about it gets tangled and you can never wear it again. No no no but not when they made upstream dream make a string necklace. And then somehow that's related to a girl you want to be yours and then you're like randomly did just see a screening screening of Spiderman and you are actively angling to be a bigger part of that soundtrack. Probably but they came from Italian for boy. It's like if you saw joker and then you're like yeah. I just wrote this song about living in a society. It's not about joker thing. Hey we're listening to do a bad guy said hey sorta sounds experimental. I think I would like that. I don't buy any. Oh Okay Sherman. I didn't realize I thought when I was reading it was about me and I was like when a lot of imagery. Irony that, it's a Disney movie, and that this is the message and yet it's such a it's at war with like half of it is like anti-capitalist message. The other half is like, here's every other Disney movie scene just sort of put in a blender and that scene. We're like Michael Keaton is like trying to sell devito out like the. Yeah. Right. "And the people who just see those people as dollar signs. Yeah. And anytime it's in that sort of dialogue. You know, the movie I think is really humming anytime, you're just on Dumbo is really humming. Good. He's a good. Boy. I think he's great another thing. I we I think we should talk about is that anytime, but Dumbo flies in this movie. It's amazing pretty high cry tears from my eyes. Yeah. It's the pebble Lovie like. I loved the Dumbo. I'm getting chills just thinking about it right now. Swoop since the entire town think that trailer is underrated is one of the great trailers recent. Thanks. Thanks. Going. Whoa flies over this reporting teaser. I think it's so good. But anytime, he flies. I'll just think that if it don't go fly. I cried my eyes. Yeah. What's the most in congress movie like you could Fook and dragged across concrete? Flu in the middle of that movie. I'd probably be like, oh, look look. And that's another thing where it's like you put the genie and CGI in live action. And you start to get all these questions of physics work against the character. But when you have a real kind of semi tangible looking element, and it seems flying it goes like the original Dumbo is better. But the thing in this is more visceral and more emotional heavier. Fuck in heavy, right. Is better except for the the crows rough right? Snow good. But no good. It's no good. The other thing that's passing that feel like has been discussed. And I talked about in my view is that like that movie was made when Disney had no money. They had sunk all this money into Fantasia budget sort of program, essentially, we need to make cheap and fast. It will flow to it was the only one of the first.

And make a defense. I like her degree eared on comfortable kindness in this that she is a fully decent character who super in depth at expressing Lert. That thing we're calling like, oh, you're not all dolled up anymore. And she's like fuck you. We know you you just love bossy girls. Full. Girl bossy round face. That's my fate. That's the thing. Musi round faith thing. My friend said to me many years ago when I was in theater where there and there was a trailer for I think short-term to one of the real movies earlier. And I was like I have a crush on her. And she was like, yeah, she's got she's got round face. And I was like what? And she's like you always like bossy round faces. I know everyone else's already mean this some weeks back. God wouldn't incredible fucking casting job on that movie? Yeah. Which of course, rewatching movies. Just good incredible movies still rules fucking at ahead. Caitlyn bever and Keith Stanfield. My Oscar ballots here same here, I relaxed, and I had the winners who I think Keith was my winner that year, you might be let me look let's look at the old spreadsheet for daisy. This is my new favorite segment. I think I lost my rich, text doc because it was back on my windows. Anyway, my point is I thought I love green. I think she's boring in this movie. And I also seen With with. is boring. They're flirtatious dominant. I liked it. But I also admit I might just be in the bag for the second round screen together. I'm like those are two people like to watch have sex. Okay. No pre. But occasionally you see too. I'm no pre. But occasionally too nice, look and movie stars in a movie, and you go like I would be into that. And the two of them with their like sorta like Bruce smokey like sad sexuality. I'm just like. Yeah. Give me those those big great raven haired beauty. She's born. I think she's she's really. And I like I like that. She is very kindness. It's the same thing as the alita thing where she's Chris off just dad. He's she's similarly not trying to play against her Nate energy. He's imbuing it with a lot of other things that no one else has let her color around the weirdness. I think like I get what you mean. But I think it'd be better served by the version of that you're trying to early on. Sure. And at that point, maybe I was really locking into like each character what they were doing on their own. Yeah. And like how would they react in a scene just with Dumbo when they're talking to other humans. I'm a little lesson too. The dialogue borders on horrible. Forty five percent of the time. Yeah. Yeah. And and and a lot of the human stuff feels indifferent. Yeah. Until you get to those moments where character sort of says, they're like mantra. You know, like, oh, that's the thing. That's what they're about the difference between these people these weird broken people were compelled to do their weird thing. Whether or not there's an audience and only know how to relate to other weird broken people. Yeah..

Absolutely. The element. I'm most intrigued because it's the weirdest one exactly one thing that looks weird, and I will say the the effects have gotten better between those two trailers looks less uncanny.
