"Russia has indicated that it views Pope Francis's peace initiative, positively. The statements from the Russian foreign ministry was the first public acknowledgment by Moscow of the Pope's move. However, Moscow stressed there are no immediate plans for a Vatican mission to the country. It followed the Vatican's recent announcements that Italian cardinal Matteo zupi had been tapped by Francis as his envoy at a news conference told reporters the scope of his mission. This mission aims at helping ease the tensions of the conflict in Ukraine. His still unscheduled talks would lead to pass of peace, much like he achieved on his mission to Mozambique in the 1990s, where he helped to mediate peace talks that ended the Civil War. "And i had been at my university for fifteen eighteen years already and i told him that we already do this. We have a program on this. You can't control faculty to do it within a certain program because they each have their individual contacts and either summer term or winter term. They would take students to these. These amazing powerful contacts they had around the world and students got these a marvelous experiences. So i told him we already were doing that but he insisted that we continue to get them to follow this format in the institutes that i was a part of so i went back to faculties. Still nobody wanted to come into this. This institute so one day we had a meeting and of course we always had to meet in his meeting and in his office and had a round table in the corner he was sitting on one side and i was sitting kind of close to him in this round table and all the sudden he started yelling at me and getting very of i would say very disrespectful. Just telling me that needed to get this done. And he started to almost puff up. And i can almost feel his energy. Just get really dark so he got really angry. That i wasn't getting this to work in his way. So i got really shaky so i had a pen in my hand and just put that down on the table and then i move my chair back and i put my hands on my top of my fis and my feet on the floor and i took a couple breaths and then i sat back and then i just said to him. This must be really hard for you. He said yeah. This is really frustrating. And that was the end of the meeting and the whole case. Skype dropped but that was an example that i felt like yelling but i know that's a no win situation for me on many counts. I'm not a senior as he is. I'm a female working in a male dominated industry. And i just felt there would be so anyway to me. That's an example of doing quickly. My scan that i found i was really scared and i wasn't going to react on fear and had an impact on changing both of our nervous systems in that situation. Yes oh i love this. So much karen. Thank you for sharing that example. Because that that. I could feel the tension just hearing the story i could feel the tension where if i were in the situation as i man i wanna slap this guy or i want to run away and cry and a corner. Neither of those objects very productive and for the listeners. You've probably heard me say this all the time. So in my book finding confidence and conflict i talk about the compassionate curiosity framework where the first step is acknowledged and validate emotions. Second step is getting curious with compassion than third step is joint problem solving and what i always say is. Sometimes the conversation is so heated. And they're so emotional that you can't even get two steps two or three. You just need to acknowledge the emotion and get emotions back down and then move on from there and that's exactly what you did. You labeled and acknowledged the emotion and then what happened. He expressed himself and he started to calm down. He started to decompress. And that's the magic behind it if you acknowledge and validate their emotions and you keep on doing it. Eventually they're going to come down. It's it's pretty powerful. And that's why i salute all of your listeners. Out there who are doing their own personal development and their leadership development around understanding and managing their emotions and their behavior in leadership positions. That that's so powerful and it's so misunderstood that coaching debriefing mentoring practice debriefing practice coaching. As you said this is a life long experience in terms of your own personal development than your human potential absolutely and one other thing too about your story that i really wanted to impress upon the listeners. That we're all exposed to media. We're all we've all seen movies and in movies. That's not how the protagonist would have responded. The protagonist would puffed up in in the situation and delivered this flawless elegant speech and left the other side speechless and confused right. This is not how it works in the real world and the thing that's really funny about the most effective negotiation techniques is that they're boring. "Exactly. I think first we have to make a distinction for those who didn't hear it. Between complaining and criticizing. Because I think when a woman is criticizing a man, he doesn't want to stand for that. And he generally doesn't want to lead through it. He wants to let her know, hey, this doesn't work for me. So a criticism is when she's disparaging of your character, you know, you're a loser. You can't get anything done. You know, that kind of thing. Then you simply want to say to her look, I'm not going to stand for your criticizing me. If you want to talk about something, I'm here to talk about it. I'm here to listen, but I'm not going to stand for this. And I always suggest that men just walk away. You don't need to do a big confrontation. You don't need to scream. As soon as you get really angry and escalate, you've lost power. It's the way that I see it. When a man, well, I don't love this word, but we use a correct a woman in that way. You know? And he lets her know like I have boundaries. There's a line here as to what I will and will not put up with. She respects him more. And then because we're sensitive and we actually don't want to hurt men, we'll tend to apologize for that kind of behavior. If a man puts up with that over and over and that continues through the years, and that becomes the way that they relate, a man can say to a woman look. Rather than complain when you need something, I'd really prefer you just ask me. Now, is this going to change her immediately? Probably not. But it will encourage her to think about, look, I can really get my needs met more so and better when I just ask him for what I want. And he's eager and willing to help. So that's one
