Charlie Welcomes Arizona's Karrin Taylor-Robson to the Show

"Hello everybody. Welcome back. We are here in my home now, Arizona. I grew up in Illinois, but I chose to live in Arizona. And I could tell you right now, Arizona is like the battleground state of the battleground state of the battleground state. And I really wanted to get kind of a picture of what's happening on the ground in Arizona and kind of the political trends and also someone who's running to be the next governor of Arizona. We've known each other for a long time. We have some awesome mutual friends, Karen Robson, Karen, welcome to the program. Thank you. And your barnstorming the state, whenever I work out, I see your ads on TV and it's compelling and you're getting the message out. Tell us why you're running for governor and then let's get right into what's happening here in Arizona. Well, I'm running for governor because we're being invaded from the south and we're under attack from Washington, D.C.. As you said, I'm a lifelong native, I was born and raised here. I was born and raised in rare. At is rare. 70% of our adult population came from somewhere else. So welcome. Welcome to Arizona. The land of the free and the home of the brave. That's Ronald Reagan used to talk about The Shining city on the hill, and he was referencing America. Well, it's now Arizona. We are The Shining city on the hill, and that is why Arizona is one of the top states for people moving to because people crave freedom. But I've been so lucky my whole life. I've worked since I was a kid. And there was a time I would tell my parents, I was going to write a book about them for making me work, you know, at such a young age because it was some form of child abuse. I'm sure they would be thrown in jail now for putting their 5 year old work, but the book I'm going to read is going to be one about gratitude. And the opportunities I have had my entire life to build a career, I put myself through school, I put myself through law school, built my career, been very successful, and I thank God every day for it. And I see those opportunities slipping away.

North Korea reports more fevers as Kim claims virus progress

"North Korea has said over 200,000 more people are showing fevers symptoms across its unvaccinated population the announcement comes as leader Kim Jong-un claimed progress in fighting a largely undiagnosed spread of COVID-19 The leader also hinted at easing virus restrictions to try to bolster a failing economy the outbreak has triggered international concern about serious tragedies in a poor and isolated country that has one of the world's worst healthcare systems experts believe North Korea is downplaying the true scale of the spread to soften the political blow on Kim Jong-un I am Karen

Portugal finds 5 monkeypox cases in men as outbreak spreads

"Several new cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in young men in Europe and one case in the U.S. The unusual outbreak of a disease typically linked to Africa was announced in Portugal and Britain one case of the disease was also confirmed in Massachusetts In a resident who had traveled to Canada and investigators are looking into whether it's connected to the European outbreaks infectious diseases medic doctor Erica chenoy said the patient was identified early on as a possible monkeypox suspect And this was really unusual because the patient had no travel history no exposure to animals that would be known to be reservoirs All the Portuguese cases involved men mainly young in Britain the current and previous cases did not seem to be linked suggesting there may be multiple chains of monkeypox transmission happening in the country I'm Karen Chammas

"And i had been at my university for fifteen eighteen years already and i told him that we already do this. We have a program on this. You can't control faculty to do it within a certain program because they each have their individual contacts and either summer term or winter term. They would take students to these. These amazing powerful contacts they had around the world and students got these a marvelous experiences. So i told him we already were doing that but he insisted that we continue to get them to follow this format in the institutes that i was a part of so i went back to faculties. Still nobody wanted to come into this. This institute so one day we had a meeting and of course we always had to meet in his meeting and in his office and had a round table in the corner he was sitting on one side and i was sitting kind of close to him in this round table and all the sudden he started yelling at me and getting very of i would say very disrespectful. Just telling me that needed to get this done. And he started to almost puff up. And i can almost feel his energy. Just get really dark so he got really angry. That i wasn't getting this to work in his way. So i got really shaky so i had a pen in my hand and just put that down on the table and then i move my chair back and i put my hands on my top of my fis and my feet on the floor and i took a couple breaths and then i sat back and then i just said to him. This must be really hard for you. He said yeah. This is really frustrating. And that was the end of the meeting and the whole case. Skype dropped but that was an example that i felt like yelling but i know that's a no win situation for me on many counts. I'm not a senior as he is. I'm a female working in a male dominated industry. And i just felt there would be so anyway to me. That's an example of doing quickly. My scan that i found i was really scared and i wasn't going to react on fear and had an impact on changing both of our nervous systems in that situation. Yes oh i love this. So much karen. Thank you for sharing that example. Because that that. I could feel the tension just hearing the story i could feel the tension where if i were in the situation as i man i wanna slap this guy or i want to run away and cry and a corner. Neither of those objects very productive and for the listeners. You've probably heard me say this all the time. So in my book finding confidence and conflict i talk about the compassionate curiosity framework where the first step is acknowledged and validate emotions. Second step is getting curious with compassion than third step is joint problem solving and what i always say is. Sometimes the conversation is so heated. And they're so emotional that you can't even get two steps two or three. You just need to acknowledge the emotion and get emotions back down and then move on from there and that's exactly what you did. You labeled and acknowledged the emotion and then what happened. He expressed himself and he started to calm down. He started to decompress. And that's the magic behind it if you acknowledge and validate their emotions and you keep on doing it. Eventually they're going to come down. It's it's pretty powerful. And that's why i salute all of your listeners. Out there who are doing their own personal development and their leadership development around understanding and managing their emotions and their behavior in leadership positions. That that's so powerful and it's so misunderstood that coaching debriefing mentoring practice debriefing practice coaching. As you said this is a life long experience in terms of your own personal development than your human potential absolutely and one other thing too about your story that i really wanted to impress upon the listeners. That we're all exposed to media. We're all we've all seen movies and in movies. That's not how the protagonist would have responded. The protagonist would puffed up in in the situation and delivered this flawless elegant speech and left the other side speechless and confused right. This is not how it works in the real world and the thing that's really funny about the most effective negotiation techniques is that they're boring. I'm exciting to us on another level right exactly so exciting to watch the choreography of something workout in a different way. "Exactly. I think first we have to make a distinction for those who didn't hear it. Between complaining and criticizing. Because I think when a woman is criticizing a man, he doesn't want to stand for that. And he generally doesn't want to lead through it. He wants to let her know, hey, this doesn't work for me. So a criticism is when she's disparaging of your character, you know, you're a loser. You can't get anything done. You know, that kind of thing. Then you simply want to say to her look, I'm not going to stand for your criticizing me. If you want to talk about something, I'm here to talk about it. I'm here to listen, but I'm not going to stand for this. And I always suggest that men just walk away. You don't need to do a big confrontation. You don't need to scream. As soon as you get really angry and escalate, you've lost power. It's the way that I see it. When a man, well, I don't love this word, but we use a correct a woman in that way. You know? And he lets her know like I have boundaries. There's a line here as to what I will and will not put up with. She respects him more. And then because we're sensitive and we actually don't want to hurt men, we'll tend to apologize for that kind of behavior. If a man puts up with that over and over and that continues through the years, and that becomes the way that they relate, a man can say to a woman look. Rather than complain when you need something, I'd really prefer you just ask me. Now, is this going to change her immediately? Probably not. But it will encourage her to think about, look, I can really get my needs met more so and better when I just ask him for what I want. And he's eager and willing to help. So that's one

"Good morning karen. Many good morning motorcycle goes by my house. Let's do it again. Monica morning again. I didn't hear okay motorcycles. Coming back. I live on a very busy street. How you. I am so good. I'm so glad you're doing this this morning i <hes>. I know a little bit about tara. i've done. I did a reading. I'm going to tell you this story. My own personal story. I have a friend whose wife does this. And when i first heard about it. I thought like a lot of people this is not just fanciful nonsense and you know like a fun. Little aside thing. I i didn't believe and i decided well i don't i'm not going to disbelieve. Believe until i see something. So this is when i was doing stand up a lot and it was my career and one of the cards. I'll never forget this card came up and it was a guy <hes>. Jumping off of a cliff into the dark. it was. it was a career card for whatever reason. I don't know how this works. But and she looked up at me and she said you're going to have a really big career change. I had not thought about it. i'd had not explored it. I didn't have any intention of doing that. I went what are you talking about. So i was sure at that point that it was nonsense. Well several months later this was you know back. Twenty five years ago. The bottom kind of fell out of the standup scene. And i was making a lot less money and there were outlets gigs. And i <hes>. I sent an email to tom. Arnold who was getting a tv show called the jackie. Thomas show and asked him for a job. I had never written on a sitcom in my life. I i wrote jokes. So i call them up. Which something. That's not something i ever did. It was just out of desperation for income and he said no i my. I'm staffed up but you can start on roseanne in three weeks. So that was my first job as a tv writer and i remember thinking that card was right. I in this. This is less than six months later. There's your card there. I see the card is the fool card. She might have had a different deck but it is literally taking the leap into something else. It's the it's the first in the last card of the deck. It's there's a lot to be said for this stuff. I mean maybe they're just strong tendencies and you can. Obviously i could have not called the guy not taken the job. I could have done that. I suppose that was my free choice at that point but the fact that that possibility entered my brain that moment because she sat it and it just it just rested there in the back. I never thought about it until circumstances changed. So i know you're doing a lot of readings. I'm doing a lot of talking. And i wanna hear. That's okay i can give you a good nation that will make you feel a little scientifically better about the cards because <hes> in there's i almost you know there's an effect that i wonder happens to because ladies come to me a lot that can't get pregnant and i will pull immediately like to pregnancy cards and she'll say no we've been trying for twenty years and i go. I don't know the problem is it's right here literally a call in a month. You're not gonna believe it. I'm pregnant happens all the time. In sometimes i wonder if subconsciously. I've given them permission to let it happen but the tero which is i'm sort of a terrible historian all the <hes>. Symbols the colors what they mean. I studied the cards for probably thirty years. I still get up every day and find a new book. Because i love them that much. But they're actually they call the archetypes that are that young talked about and the dream are sort of the same as a dream arc. Typeset that you would <hes>. You would actually be dreaming this same thing. In other words it all means the same thing. The high priestess would mean mystery in your dreams. So they're not just sort of cards that come out of nowhere. They sort of been built on the subconscious and psychology for many many years or vice versa. The cards built psychology but <hes>. It's it is coming from something. They they used to say. Somebody told the story that gypsies that didn't speak the same language used to carry different decks with them so they could come up to a different tribe in they could say showed him a picture of the medicine. Man showed him the picture of the magician so they could communicate through them but every time someone tries to say this is where they were developed. They find another car deck back further <hes>. They also <hes>. Are the know people that. Get weird about lulu. This is where our regular paint playing debt comes from. This is also where chest house room.

all three of you are listening we are enjoying will enjoy the show tonight you know what who needs the Superbowl we have so much going on here we have riveting conversation we have tackling legal issues were running down the legal news of the week we're talking to all kinds of important people in and the most incredible thing that's going to happen is Roger banish is going to perform at halftime on my show so at eight o'clock which is the mid part of my show there's going to be a Roger baddest halftime show he does not know it yet I think he's a little worried I don't hear anything from the newsroom at all but she is going to be very entertaining as he usually is we do have a great show tonight we're going to be talking at seven thirty to an astrologer now do you believe in astrology is based in science my birthday is tomorrow and I was thinking and I always read my horoscope just for fun I used to study the astrology just a little bit and I'm wondering doesn't matter where our planets are aligned to the stars and the moon and Jupiter are those things that really because trends in society are those things are changing to the changer personality if you're born under certain signs I know out there are probably some people believe in this stuff and probably a lot of people don't but let's listen to what the premier astrologer in Chicago was going to say about what astrology means and how you can use it to maybe make your life a little bit better and understand some of the trends that might be going on that's at seven thirty and eight o'clock we are taking your legal questions as you know I'm a practicing lawyer and if you have any oceans at all about anything you will give me a call here at nine eight one seven two hundred three one two nine eight one seven two hundred or text to that number I will see if I can answer your legal questions and maybe in the process helped out some other people who I have the same question I also will be doing my little quiz at the end just before nine o'clock and will be kind of a run down of the week's news stories and we'll see how much you paid attention to the news stories I promise we're not talking politics or impeachment or viruses so we're going to stay in some topics that are a little bit more light hearted if you will but let's get going with our first topic which is something that I've been thinking about all week as you recall last Sunday Kobe Bryant died tragically in a plane crash the great best basketball player his his daughter died as did some several other people in this helicopter crash and what was interesting I mean you saw on the news Superbowl today there was a map of memorial they were having the morals at all different games and you saw people just with an outpouring of sympathy yet and they were crying in there were tears and I wonder why is it that we as people in our society more in it with such great feeling the loss of a celebrity what is it about us we don't know this guy we've watched him maybe we think we know him maybe we've route before him or maybe we admire him but what is it about his tragic death truly goes right to the heart of our emotions and with us to talk about that fascinating topic is doctor Patty Ashley a doctor actually is an international workshop presenter an author and speaker she's a psychotherapist who's going to give us some insight into the identification of why we feel so strongly about these issues doctor Ashley thank you so much for joining me how are you tonight well hi Karen I'm great how are you thank god so much happening good to have you here so let's just talk a little bit we were going to go to a break in just a little bit but I wanted to just your insight instinctively is this an uncommon thing to see people getting emotional about the death of a celebrity and if it isn't why don't we do it no it's really commented the archetypal we kill something in our bones that triggers us it feels like it's something we know but we really don't know so you know we feel we are hard to open there's an embassy in on and we really want to make sense out of something that doesn't make sense especially tragic sudden loss like we saw with Kobe Bryant are there certain celebrities that seem to evoke that kind of feeling more than others I think so you know and I think it really depends on the person because everybody has a certain character that they're drawn kill princess Diana for instance she in no doubt that morning went on for ever the flowers and the letters and the and and she did so much work you know in the world but she was also such a will family kind of situation that has stirred up big big questions in our lives and so I think really depends on you know the individual how much they're going to be touched by the person who dies like for me my favorite singer songwriter was cancel Burke went out for a long time yeah he's he's actually from Illinois I forgot what town it's not yeah Peoria's which is somewhat on state and he died also tragically young of a prostate cancer I believe and I don't know but about you but when I hear his songs wich are so beautiful I just I feel I can't help but feel sad because his life was cut so very short I would have loved to hear him now you know in his older years doing doing other ballots and other songs right and so that's a personal connection for years the music as it is for me so I'm gonna more not a little bit more sales big sports fan for instance with Kobe Bryant you know when their whole world is around sports and what that's about they get excited and then in something tragic like that happens I think they probably have a similar feeling like well I wanted to know what else he was going to do in this life and it was so sudden it could happen to me right right let's let's open the phone lines if anybody has felt something like this where you just talk you obviously don't know the person you've heard about it in the news is there's somebody who's really kind of just tugged at your heart a death that you were kind of surprised yourself when we come back I am going to talk a little bit about someone who kind of touched me and I and I still look back and think how was it that I felt so strongly about the death of somebody who I didn't know nine eight one seven two hundred three one two nine eight seven two hundred and we're talking with Patty Dr Patti Ashley and we're talking about grief to we're gonna get to morph into another topic which is very important to talk about him which is dealing with grief dealing with the loss of loved ones and how may be some tips to make you feel a little bit better you're listening to WGN this is Karen how to show coming.

"Listen to a little love Karen Conti show I just wanted to say if I don't get to say this by the end of the show it's been a wonderful privilege to be on WGN the greatest radio station in the city and one of the greatest in the country and it's been my privilege to talk in your ear and take your calls and and help some of the listeners who have called in with legal issues and I've hoped that I've major you're a little bit happier and a little bit more knowledgeable let's just say but dot thank you for listening we have a really good show tonight at the seven thirty time period we are going to be talking to one of the current county show regulars a Susan Rowland who is a psychic medium and whether you believe in this stuff or not is a very interesting topic of conversation we're going to be talking about the predictions for twenty twenty we're talking about politics not really politics but what might happen different world events different personalities what's going to happen health wise to to to people in the new year what are some things to be careful of and to be wary of Susan Roland is the bass then we're going to be taking calls from people who might want to connect with a loved one from who's no longer with us or who might want some advice and guidance about business or careers or anything else in their love life as well so I stay tuned at seven thirty for Susan Roland and then of course it it clock will be taking your legal questions I'm a practicing lawyer and any questions you have about anything that you have in your life that might be of concern for you whether that's divorce or contract law consumer issues bankruptcy estate wills and planning all of that stuff are you can give me a call here or if you've seen something in the news in the last old maybe during the impeachment hearings were not gonna get political no politics here tonight it's impolitic free zone but if you need some things explained I will try to do my best to try to make some sense out of what is going on legally speaking but right now the story I think is one of the nicest stories that I've ever had the privilege of covering in this time of giving where everyone's giving a we're talking about giving this is a story that tops the mall when it comes to just plain generosity I heard the story and I'm gonna try not to break into tears talking about it thirty one year old navy veteran out ritual Schultz from Harvard Illinois I was diagnosed with thought six kidney disease and she had stage five kidney disease she took matters into her own hands and she created a massive campaign to get a kidney flash ahead there's twenty seven year old Nicole gabber Rick a leak more police officer who's on a night shift and she just so happened to see a post on Facebook about this donation of a kidney and she decided out of the clear blue that she was going to donate a kidney to Rachel the operation happened was six success and now we have two women who are bonded by this wonderful story of organ donation I'm going to welcome both Rachel and the cold to the show hello everyone how are you doing good how are you good do I have Rachel yes ma'am okay is Nicole there okay last but I'm gonna talk to Rachel for a minute reach will tell our listeners a little bit about your condition and why you needed a kidney so badly well as you said being a thirty one year old usually you don't really expect to get that kind of diagnosis you know in your I would actually twenty eight when I was diagnosed initially and at that time it was age three and at that point in time I was told within three to five years I would need a kidney transplant and at that point it was kind of surreal you know you get that kind of news and it's like wow what lake one of my supposed to do I'd never heard of kidney disease no one in my family had it anything like that so being the kind of person that I am to get into my own hands to learn as much as I could about the type of disease that I had which is the technical term is I dieta property but it's commonly called burgers disease than at the specially where your body attacks itself with an auto immune disease and it specifically attacked your kidney so for a few years so last year around I think was the fourth of July is when I actually started on dialysis I progressed far enough to where both of my kidneys were functioning less than ten percent and that was to the point where I had to go to a dialysis center three times a week and Rachel I was talking a little bit about you were talking a little bit about how a difficult it was for you do we only have a few seconds before I have to go to a break but just tell our listeners really quickly you are how many hours a day were you in the style says well initially when I was doing and center it was about four to four and a half hours I then progress to actually doing it at home but that was four days a week and that was about three hours when I did it at home okay let me take a break when we come back we're going to talk to Nicole who was the.

"Karen. Hold on. I think I heard something. Just this is just again. You can't. Also, he's starts affecting business badly. For example. He started downsizing checks, not because they didn't have enough money, but because the Bank, did not recognize his signature anymore. That's how fucked up was when he was signing checks. Cool. That's a bad sign. Finally he had. He went to May's oyster house on Polk street with a gun with a gun though. No. He had the first part. Yeah. He wanted to shoot open some oysters it maze. So when he had to be disarmed at maze. They said how about you? Don't come into work anymore, and co workers, family and friends were all turning to Jim saying that he was the one that had to solve the problem. In fact, argues ex wife Karen called her brother on February. Eighteenth nineteen Ninety-one after she was forced to get a restraining order, that only allowed already to see his children under court supervision, UAE. So she'd had to send the kids over to his house on the weekends, and then he was so fucked up that like she was worried about them, and they basically had to get some intervene. And so, again, she tells Jim, you have to do something about Artie, but already didn't like being the one with the problem. So he argued that everyone at the theater did drugs and drank and was fucked up in smoke pot and shotguns the ceiling. So Why's he them on getting picked on? And he begins leaving taunting messages on his brother's answering machine saying, I'm not the only one that needs to quit something because you smoke. I mean smoking coasts. No, it's true. Not back down though. Back then it was still super chill. So now already is not only not helping theater, but then he's fucking with Jim, and Jim has to handle everything and do it without his brother. So it's February twenty seventh nineteen Ninety-one already is living on mohawk avenue and quarter Madeira with his girlfriend of nine months. Julie bay auto. She was a twenty seven year old ex Farrell theater dancer, who had to quit because of a knee injury, which you don't think about that. Yeah. Physical toll that it takes on the knees and joints. So Ardito always said he had an open door policy at his house, which literally meant he left his front door unlocks every night, because he wanted to make sure that all his party friends had a place to stay if they needed somewhere to go and steal his money. Yes, maybe threatened him physically, so that night, February twenty seventh at ten fifteen Ardy. Julia are in bed, and they hear the front door open, and then someone banging around in the living room. So it isn't totally out of the ordinary until they hear gunshot. And so Archie gets up to see who it is. He grabs an empty beer bottle for protection, Julie jumps into the closet to hide. She hears Ardy yell. What's going on? Who's out there as he walks into the hallway and then six more gunshots? Ring out, Julie reaches out from the closet, grabs a phone calls the police, and as luck would have it officer can't Hoss was making a traffic stop right around the corner when that call came in so he pulled onto mohawk drive. He parked couple of doors down from the address that was given. And he sees a man with a limp walking down the street carrying an umbrella. And it had been raining around that time. So that wasn't too weird, but he still thought he should at least question. This person. So he ordered the man to stop. And instead, the guy real, quick, duck down behind a car and started pulling at the waistband of his pants scary for tons of reasons. So officer hostels tells the man to stop or he'll shoot and the man complies and puts his hand up. And when backup arrives, they pull the man up from his hiding place. It's Jim Mitchell, and he's got a twenty two rifle shoved down his pants leg. In any also has a thirty eight in a holster underneath his jacket and inside the house. His brother already is lying dead in the bathroom doorway. He's been shot in the shoulder in the torso and through his right? I only with twenty two Jim Mitchell is arrested and charged with the murder of his brother. And of course within hours, a media circus ensues. So this was right on the right on the cusp of Court TV and they actually in this during this trial had an argument, whether or not, they should air this on television. Because of course, had everything was like siblings, born and more. Do you want? That's plenty. So this infamous trial begins on January thirteenth nineteen Ninety-two. The courtroom is filled with cops strippers entertainment tonight, producers, Phero theater patrons and employee's. And at least one porn actor. You gotta hope there was one person who was all of those things. Yeah. You know Mary Hart. Okay. Don't tell her I said that they all watch us person after person testifies that Jim Mitchell loved his brother. He was closest friend, and he was only going over Ari's house for an intervention that escalated into a heated fight, and then in a fit of rage. Jim decided to put Artie out of his drug addled misery. That's the story that the defense tries to mount but the prosecution counters this theory because of that were true. Then why did Jim park blocks away from mohawk avenue? So no one would see his car. And why did he bring to guns and why did he shoot his brother seven times? With three hits. And why did he slash RT's tires before he entered the house, lots of questions? Very good valid questions. According to the these actions told the story of premeditated, murder, not a heat of the moment. Accidental death. But when the verdict came in the power of the Mitchell brothers, and their legend in the city came through because the jury throughout the first degree murder charge and found Jim Mitchell guilty of voluntary manslaughter. How at his sentencing notable? San Francisco figures like former mayor Frank Jordan, a former police chief, Richard hunk, honky stow, and sheriff Michael Hennessey all speak on Jim's behalf vouching for his good character literally, the opposite of every single obscenity trial that they had to sit through in the seventies, where all the politicians and law enforcement accused, Jim and Artie of ruining the city Jim Mitchell at the end of that sentencing is sentenced to six years in San Quentin. Wow. Here's a some pictures. That's him in the court with his courtroom with his lawyer. Oh those guys watching the game up there. That was the weirdest Gulf clap of all time. Courtroom shed. And this is this is what I love. This is an out of order, like time wise, this is clearly from a seventies or early eighties trial that they had to go to. But I just like that picture of him think it's kind of haunting beautiful and it would play him. I don't know who has insanely round glasses. Like just bring glasses and you can play him. If you can get those glasses again. So Jim serves just over three years in San Quentin and is them. Yeah. He immediately returned to the pharaoh theater to continue managing it. And he sets up the Artie fund which raises money for a local drug rehab center, as well as for the surf rescue squad of the San Francisco fire department who had in nineteen ninety saved RT's life when he had been carried out by riptide trying to save his own kids who he thought downing do not swim in San Francisco beach area. It's cold. It's saltier the normal seawater, and it's trying to kill you all the time, especially if you're very young, Jim Mitchell, eventually, retires to farm on the outskirts of a little town. I like to call head a Luma California. We have him. Oh. Known a writer. Lloyd bridges fuckin- guy fealty. Snoopy. Snoopy lives there. Okay..

All yes. We have a travel MAG regular mug on my favorite writer on the store. I fucking love those now. Am I right about this that they light up in the dark glow in the dog lows in the Dr word Luminol glows in the dark? He knows people who have monk that say, this might be cat, and it's like, Cheryl, and accounting, Cheryl. You're so crazy nut. Cheryl might be wine, alcoholic, Cheryl. Yeah. Well, now you can have one that says this might be looming all yet. Which don't drink that don't drink Luminol. It's poisonous probably. And it's a waste people need to spot. Other liquids someone gave us a vials of Luminol at alive, show recently. Yes. And I was like, let's go to the hotel room and fucking throw this about you said that in the woman who gave it to us. What no. Knows she's done, and it's like, do not, you don't wanna see what's gonna come up under that black leg. I don't have a lot of people got very fired up about what the best cracker combination is something we should talk about a little bit always people really Stephen snack corners. Oh, I've got some responses for the for that snack. When you said, this is the best snack cracker. Yeah. And then he just handed me, like eight printed pages of responses from people get a copy of this. That's very seriously. But credit goes to J O, did you find them? There was one guy in. I wonder if it's in here because there's so many where guy just he deemed us any just row on the on the Twitter, which I actually never looked at the DMZ of because it's like, oh my God, it's opened yams. That's nightmare, but damn all over the floor place. But for some reason I opened it and then it just said where I'm crackers with peanut butter, boom. Just like this discussion is over about what the best awesome snack is not in the middle of this discussion, like we talked about that two weeks ago. Maybe. Yeah. That's how every response on social media. Yes, for the person responding and going, I'm going to log on Twitter and let them know how I feel it's always it just happened for them. Oftentimes, they're like I need to talk about what happened in episode sixty four. No, we're not doing that. I wasn't I don't even remember being alive. Then they're people walk up to us wearing shirts of these. We said on this podcast at the meet and greet and every time ago my, that's so funny, and then they'll go like use of it or like set it to you. And we're like really this is great or it'll be like you said it lasts episode with coalition. That's about science. I'm what speaking of snacks? Can I just say that someone sent us a snack pack backstage, when we were just in Minneapolis? Without an explanation. And I just I hope they're ok because it was onion and chives or like onion, garlic crackers. Yeah. Cottage cheese. Oh, that's and then meant Fudd and I was like this can't be right. I hope they're ok. Okay. Well, you would say that. Right. Having not read a couple of these pages at Stephen handed me that j found give me some highlights. So get get up on this. Like this is the first one, I saw from some named Jordan. And a lot of these are coming through, just as listed out recipes. So it just says the number one once all teen to smear some creamy, peanut butter on it carry sliced dill pickle you. And then here's the underneath that do not say gross until you in gifted is creamy sour salty, crunchy and sweet. No, my fav- hungover snack, my, which may also be a new subgroup name peace and blessings tour. Into that sounds gross. But yeah, I guess it's kind of, it's kind of good, then there's really fancy ones like this is from Kayla. And she wrote. Here's my new favorites neck ever. I don't know if they're all these in California, but they sell an artichoke jalapeno drip. It says, dip said drug, it's a fucking injection into your arm, and a slow drip can have an artichoke dip EPA. Trader Joe's of is so good. I wonder if that's same. Okay. What to say? So she says she spreads it on thick slice. Salami wrapped up, and it's the easiest and most delicious snack. All right. So she's using this law Mia as free loving it. And then she says, if I'm feeling really crafty, I'll add a Ritz to everything cracker. Oh ritz. Everything. Wait, there is a couple of that. How about this? This is from Steve. My favorite cracker is something that my mother got me addicted to while I was just a little kid. It's her favorite snack is well step one take a delicious take a delicious buttery Ritz cracker. Many of these cracker based, these are all this is fucking Ritz. As being forced. I know what? You're no. You're doing rich. You don't get free bucking commercial out of Ritz and Triscuit or going head to head on this corner, promo code. Step to put a dull up or smear if your door of cream cheese onto it. Step three, top with a smoke odor. Oh so I guess this is from the one percent. They sent him Email from the Stratus. Always for hobos. What are you talking about? Hold on. They Steve said sorry Steve, who calls himself a crack arenas. I understand full well that this sounds like some people's version of hell. And I had I not been raised on this delicacy myself. I wouldn't likely try to either. No. But something about it is so savory and salty and buttery and at the same time that is pure bliss. You really should true. Stay sex. Don't avoid seafood, that comes in a can and is readily available at the dollar store. Oh, crack arena. Mercury I'll one. That's the savory taste that mercury under the underpinnings of death being closer, then there's stuff like there's some people that are genuinely being fancies have yard county. It's not really. Oh, this is this. When I like this is from just the letter A S for cracker snacks, the best ones I ever ate was when I was a little kid at vacation bible school. You take a Ritz cracker cracker Hershey to top it with a little bit of jarred spaghetti or pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese. And toasted in an oven until melty and Walla hosted its occasion, bible school pizza crackers. My son once had a party, and I made those they were all five years old and one kid raved about them so much that the mom had to call me. And after the rest. Jay pizza writ adorable. It's actually pretty pretty profits. A stuff of. I mean yeah. It just goes on. And on this, we'll post them on the fan cold. Here's a thing. Do you remember why abra Kat jammed got mixed into that other recipe app, because I'm crazy and said that you should put a little late for jam on top of your pickle and whatever act MAC. And yeah. Jak cover Jack. Yeah. And I can stand by it. Did did have you eaten up not with a pickle? Okay. But I'm definitely a jam and cheese person for sure. I've been hip to that with you, and your shirt, Cury boards and oh, yeah. She's boards. That I'm no, I used to, like hotel menus be like, that's not for me. Yeah, that's not my area. And now I'm like, I believe it to be my area. Tiger is the aspirin a little bit of Honey on the side. And maybe some of that good young fig jam that. I love so much. Always good. Anyway. And acts abound, we should do is take all these and put them on the website for sure. Cracker corner for sure. I'm gonna file those away to cracker corn sharable 's, it is crap inning. I mean it just keeps going I want, I need a copy of those for my Permai recipe book for into go right in there. My recipe folder who goes for Stephen. I don't know why it's a relief to go. I you know, just like that much closer to being. We love doing this. No, we love it. But is something going? I mean it's just like then afterwards I can relax and just listeners as crack Akano wind chill out. Bit of hang. But also, I think, like we I've gotten very comfortable complaining on this podcast about being tired, and being doing other stuff which I shouldn't I shouldn't be like that. Well, it's true. And true. I tied tie. We're so fucking happy. And this is amazing but yeah, I think a lot of people have been saying, like you can take a break. It's okay. And I think we're finally catching up to that. We're like, oh, yeah, that's right. We should do my therapist today, that was just weeping in therapy, which is not like me. He was like, yeah, you seem exhausted. Never said that's me before. And I was just like leave me alone. Second just cry for a minute. Please. Witness, ma'am. My emotion, and I get a witness, can you need credit that I grabbed right now to show that I can't it's important then fucking Vince because it was couples therapy that we got back in the car, and I was like crying, and I feel like I shouldn't stop because it's never happened to me. And he's like, totally I'm here for this, then he makes a joke and I started laughing. Some silly cute joke. There was some my sister sent me something because I was doing while we were gone. I was having some emotional upheaval turmoil. It just felt like a almost like stomach flu. It felt like that kind of thing, where it was like it was not connected..

"Fees. Exactly, you you have some semblance of privacy. So trust is a really good tool to use that which you say, it is it's it's very popular with a lot of people. Even if I'm so some people will do it to protect from estate taxes, which here in Illinois. We have a four million dollar per person exemption there are simple trust. And then there are more complex trust to avoid paying taxes. Charitable giving. You know, there are a lot of things that you can do. But a trust is preferred because people like to know that they have control of their assets and that at their death. It's gonna go exactly the way that they want it to go without having to go through the probate process. I hear a lot of people Ron to say, oh, I'm just going to put the house in my children's name or I'm just going to put my children's names on accounts. And then when I die they will have that account or that that that asset that can backfire though, can't it. Absolutely. So if you name any person on any account of yours are home of yours their creditors can attach that property if they're an owner on your property, and they get sued instead. Absolutely. If they are going through a divorce, we typically will discourage that I mean, most married people have things jointly held, but to name your kids is not always a great idea. The other thing is we see is people at the last minute will add their kids onto the deed of their home. And what they don't realize is that the kids are going to have to probably pay some capital gains taxes because the general rule is that you get what's called a step up in basis. So if you give something to someone at your death. They get it at the value as of your date of death. Now if you put them on while you're living. They don't get the full value of of that gift. So you have to be really careful and make sure you speak with your legal adviser about the best thing to do. So the bottom line is by putting your children's names on your house, for instance, you could have tax ramifications creditors could get it or God forbid, there's. A divorce? The ex spouse could come and say, maybe that that they are titled to a portion of it not that it could happen always will happen. But there's a possibility exactly couple taxed and please. I'm going to give the numbers out again nine eight one seven two hundred any legal questions at all. But in particular, if you have one about estate, planning wills trusts, and those types of things Ron Johnson is here answering those questions we have texture from the two six two, Eric what was co trustee with my mother suggested by her attorney and the banker as they all knew I would do what my mother wanted. I love your program. Once again, I asked her if it worked out she to get back to me, but we were talking about having a co trustee in you know, it can work out you can work out. Absolutely. And people know their their children best. You know, if if you think that the two would help each other out, then then it's a fine idea. We Karen, and I just see, unfortunately, the bad scenarios that that come about. And so it's something we want you to be aware of there's also the situation where sometimes. People want to name maybe a Bank or trust company to be a co trustee because they feel like that would help their child, you know, out with financial decisions with being organized one can do one one job. And then the other one can do another job. So in a lot of situations that is helpful because if you think that your tab would be overwhelmed, there are corporate fiduciaries that will act as trustee or executor and the texture did get back to me and said, it's a lot of work. But well worth learning for me. And it is a lot of work. It's a lot of responsibility. And I've been a trustee for family members. And even as an attorney because this is what I do for a living. I take care of things and I take care of problems. But it's it is it is emotional you're dealing with beneficiaries who may be related to you're dealing with with Bank accounts. And you need to make sure that things are handled a better than your own better than your own business. Absolutely. You're held to a very high standard and for people out there who are trustees. And who are executors, you know, you can't cross the line. You can't commingle money. You can't take money for your own benefit. And if you do there's some serious ramifications absolutely for that, and including some elder elder fraud and things like that, which I've seen some states attorneys. Take an interest a little bit communication and transparency are the best things that atrocity can do. That's right communicate with the beneficiaries. They know what's going on. They're not suspicious that there's something that they don't know about you know, so communicate with them and be open. There's no reason why you shouldn't. That's a good point. Because a lot of the complaints. Are. I don't see the Bank accounts. I don't know what my is doing. He won't tell me. He will call me up. He he won't tell me when the the house is going to be sold and people in the dark think the worst exactly you're listening to the Karen Conte show. We're talking about estate planning if you have any legal questions ninety eight one seven two hundred back in a minute..

"Roger badesch WGN newsroom. Ready to join the conversation. Whenever a story changes on Chicago's very own seven twenty WGN. Welcome to the Karen Conte show on seven hundred twenty WGN. Hello, everyone at one word Moorer. Yes. That's the word is that a word for how many hours a lot lot of ours. Just a lot of ours. Yep. Yep. Yep. We have an interesting show tonight. We have John classes joining me who is a very funny, man. And we're going to be talking about news stories in an out of the news this week and legal questions if anyone has legal questions, we're going to take them all throughout the show for two hours. So they have legal questions or comments, maybe on some new stories that you've read that you're concerned about today of questions about just give us a call here. Nine one seven two hundred. I'm just going to bring John. Hey, john. How are you? Hello. How are you care? He's never done a show together. I don't think we have been on Steve show a couple of times. I think we wrote a song together song together. And and I like to write my political parodies. And you're kind enough because if I sang them, they would be funny. Not for the words. But for me singing. So that's funny. That's exactly what they laugh at. That you would bring up. So what welcome. And you know, I guess I want to just ask you like how you know. You're a stand up comic. And you know, I come from a background where my father was was a stand up comic. And I just find it. Interesting to study, how comedy has changed especially in the days. Now, we have such political correctness and people so offended by things. Can you tell me like are there certain things that you can do now that you may be couldn't do twenty five years ago and certain things that you can't do that. You could do is it changed as much as I think it has. I think it definitely has changed. I don't think it's about what you can do. Now that you could that's different because it's really so much has changed. You can't do so many things. Now, there are there are comedians who will do anything at anytime, and it doesn't matter, and that's just what that's the people gravitate towards them that they like that. I have always been. Very very, no issues. I don't wanna offend anybody. Anything like that? So I played pretty straight for thirty six years now. And you know, it's funny. You did bring up the fact that you're history there and for anybody listening. We were talking about your your father Joe, and I just sent you a phone had that long ago from his album, right, which how many albums did he have he only one album, and it was filmed back in the late fifties or early sixties at a place called Mangum Chateau, which was a place in Lyons, Illinois, it was a swanky nightclub. They had probably three cells during Friday's and Saturday's my father was a headliner. So he introduced all the guests. They would usually have magicians they'd have singers. They have a line of girls who dance and my dad worked there for years and years and years, it was probably the only real steady job. Sure. So so it was filmed, it was tapes there, and it's all the old one liners. That's and that's how I got my start. I was one of the I was actually one of the girls that s which oh that's how I I met. Joe Saalbach is cleavage. And thank God. I have plenty of that. How great was that that I saw that album? And I think about that because I worked with your father. I actually worked at wackos in Berlin. Yes. And just you know, it's one of those things I'm a big throwback. So it was it was quite a pleasure. And and definitely an honor. And I'm not kidding to work with him. And he was I hope he was a nice dad because he was a soup. He was super nice nice nicest guy know, there's a lot of people show businesses. You know, who are not the nicest people or they're insecure their petty and selfish and stealing jokes. Dad was always the person who would help a young comic and say, hey, why don't we work on this? And maybe you can use this. And and he was always very good. Because you know, he went through a lot. I mean, he started out as a child actor in Hollywood when he was very young. And he was in a movie called east of the river with John Garfield. And then he became one of the dead end kids, which then became the Bowery, boys. Yes. And he was not. A big one of the big ones. He was kind of a peripheral character was in three or four or five of the cereals. And so that's how he really got his start, and he was tapped answer. And so he's saying and tap danced. And that sorta just moved into the whole comedy thing. But but he going back to being clean or doing risky things. You know, my father back in the day. Fifties sixties seventies. You couldn't work if you were going to be doing off color things. I mean, if you you certainly couldn't work a convention or a bar mitzvah or something like that you had to keep it very clean and keep it, very known ethnic jokes. No, real racy sexual jokes. And and that's how you kept a job is is is is you appeal to everybody. And it's not that different today. Because the fact that I'm able to do corporate work and theater work and stand up clubs, and and here's the thing your father. I remember what he told me, and I did not think of it as that big of a deal at the time. But he pulled me aside at wackos, and he said you closed I was headlining. He goes. Hey, I really liked that you were not blue blue meaning dirty at all. And I don't I'm very clean and myself. And I didn't think that was that big of a deal. That's just what I do. But today, that's why I'm able to do everything in anything because I'm clean. However, the people that you see skyrocket and get on TV shows and stuff like this or or getting specials on Netflix. Guys. I've I love, and I think are very funny and women too. But they are they can be very blue. And they can be very, and they just skip the line and go they don't care about the corporate. They don't care about that. It's just a different. It's a different time. Did your father right his own material? Or was that he wrote some of it. And he would you know, alter certain things, I mean, he had been in the business for so long that you know, there's no such thing as a new job just to audience. Right. So he would take an old joke from vaudeville back. He was he entertained the troops in World War Two. He was in special forces where he went all across all over the world with a group of people who were saxophone players and a female, impersonator and dancers and singers, and they put on shows for for the for the troops. And so he has such a day he had such a depth of of knowledge of jokes and old jokes. And so he could retool them to say that he actually wrote them. He probably doesn't eat just change them. But he did have the back of the day. They had newsletters that you could subscribe to that would have got topical lines. Sure orbin was the big one. And a lot of the a lot of the comics got his lines. And then they retool those as well. So it was you know, he he had some so many jokes that even given act. He probably wouldn't have to repeat them. And he was probably forced because they would have the same audience all the time. They may not leave or that. You know, we get we get one show. They everybody leaves. We come back. We can do the same set. Right. Or I traveled to another town, and they don't know from today. So it's, but it's funny when I worked with your dad, and I work with them. I think probably five times is what I remember. And when I worked with him. I remember a younger comedian kind of Scoffing at him because he's this one liner guy, and what a throwback and yet. He did really well the audience really laughed at your dad. Joe did really well. And it's like, how can you not see an old guy up there? And you think what's this guy gonna do? You know, he's been he's been doing it for forty years by the time you met him. So he was a professional. I mean, you know, this is what he did is he put food on the table. Do. I look like I'm under. I mean, really, you know. So so, yeah, there's there longevity there and someone asks what's his name? I love joined the cast someone says, then I love John. That's my dad's name was Joe Conti joke. I was gonna say Richard Pryor. But I guess that wouldn't be funny. I know you never know. Anyway, we're talking about we're talk. We're gonna talk about the cold, John, and I are going to do some dueling. How cold is it chokes?
