A highlight from STOP BEING LAZY - Andrew Tate Motivational Speech

"I understand don't people who say they lack motivation in life because I'll make this extremely clear. If you're not pushing and striving for something, life is so mundane. I've always had this problem with literal crippling perpetual boredom. I was bored. I had no money. I'm carrying boxes of ice. I'm a smart guy. I'm not playing chess anymore, right? This is, I'm 34 now. So this is quite a few years ago. It's before the internet, before Facebook was all big and nothing. What do you do with your life? What's there to do? I thought the only, I need to do something which drains me so that I can go to sleep at night without frustration. And if I kickbox, if I run three miles to the gym and then fight for three hours and run three miles home, at least I can sleep. I literally couldn't sleep. I wouldn't say it's ADHD, but I was just frustrated. And then on top of that, I've always had this huge frustration in regards to money. Even though I was poor, I'd grow up around a bunch of other poor kids and we'd be walking to school or walking to college and a Ferrari would drive past and they'd go, oh, cool Ferrari. And I'd say, doesn't that annoy you? And they're like, what do you mean? And I'd be like, he knows he's hacked the matrix. Don't you see? How does he have 400 grand for a car? He knows something we don't know. Well, aren't you annoyed that there's people out there living a lifestyle that we can't ever aspire to. We're never going to work in a job and pull this off. Doesn't this bother you? And they all be like, no, but me, it was, I was always angry. I was always angry, not angry in a go to jail way, but just in a, I was angry. I was like, something isn't right. Something doesn't add up. So I kickboxing was my answer. I just started kicking, kicking people's ass and I felt a little bit better. That was kind of how it worked. At what point did you realize you were like world -class at this? So when I, my first day in the gym, I walk in my coach, it was four Bosnian men, men. I was a child. It was four Bosnian men in this tiny little terrible gym. It was not like a commercial gym or commercial class. And he said, can you fight? And I said, yeah, I've done karate for a few years that I got knocked clean out on my first day, of course. And I guess they expected me to never come back, but I kept coming back. And my coach said to me, look, after about a year, he said, look, I want to put you into a fight. And he took me down to a town called South End on C and my first fight was in kickboxing. My first fight was actually MMA and it must've been a little over a year because I was 18 and I was fighting a 24 year old security doorman. And being a stupid American, I thought pounds and kilos were the same because I weighed in at like 82 pounds. He weighed in at like 90. No, I weighed in at 82 kilos. He weighed in at 90 kilos, which is an 8 kilo difference, which is almost like 20 pounds. And I was like to my coach, is that a big difference? He's like, no, no, don't worry about it. I was like, okay. Thinking back, a 20 pound difference is a big difference in fighting, right? And I got in there and I won. I didn't win necessarily through skill, but I just kept going and I just outgassed him and towards the end, I'm just on top of him, just punched him in the face, right? And now I'm only 18 years old. So from there, my coach was like, okay, you have some potential. And I knew for a long time, it was, I believed it was my only way out because like once again, before the internet and stuff, I'm going to college, I finished college. I don't believe in university because I'm too smart to get in debt for formal education. I'm too smart for that job. So I finished college. I'm working these sales jobs. I was always a good salesman. So I'm working sales jobs. I'm bringing in, you know, 3000, 4000 a month, whatever, but I thought my only way to get rich rich is fighting. I couldn't think of another way to get rich and I didn't fight only to get rich, but I saw light at the end of the tunnel. So that's all I wanted to do was just fight, fight, fight. And so at what point do you go fight for the first world championship? So I fight for my first level world championship on two days notice. So I'm in Slovakia. There was a town. I'm going to tell everyone now on this podcast, I'm going to give the secret away. If you go, if you're bored right now, if you're watching this on the internet, load up Google maps, right? And there's a town called Kosice, K -O -S -I -C -E, and it's on the opposite end of Slovakia to Bratislava. So Bratislava is the capital and then you have Kosice on the other side. It's four and a half hours drive from Bratislava. It's about four hours drive from Warsaw and about four hours drive from Budapest. It's in the middle of nowhere, but all the villages and all the towns, everyone around this little town, every hot girl within about 400 square kilometers lived in this town because there's no, there was nowhere else to go. Right. And they were all there. And when I was going there, this is pre -EU. They didn't have the Euro and me and Tristan used to go there on holiday because we would clean up. And when I say clean up, my brother, and when I say clean up, I don't mean clean up, like you clean up on holiday with some in Mexico. I mean, clean up with tens, like supermodels, it was unbelievable. And a beer is like 30 cents. And we're the only men there who speaks English. So I was in Kishidze and then I got a phone call from Amir saying he has a world title fight in two days. So I was just really drunk at the time. And I was... Amir is my coach, sorry. He was Bosnian Muslim. He fought in the Yugoslav conflict. He got shot six times and didn't die. That's the deal. Right? So he's still like a father to me. And I must've been crazy. I was like, okay, I can't explain, and I want to say this in a way where it's truly understood. When I say I didn't give a shit if I lived or die, I don't mean that in a sad, suicidal way. I mean that in an empowered, charging at the gunfighter. Back then, I didn't think I had anything that really made me really give a shit about living. Not in a doo -doo -doo sad way, just in a, let's go out, in a blaze of glory then. I'm not rich. I don't have nothing. I'm just banging girls in Slovakia with us. Who is this guy? So it was against the French world champion Jean -Luc Benoit was his name. And the opponent pulled out and they needed a guy on two days notice. And I had to lose six kilos, which was around 13 or 14 pounds in two days. Is that easy or hard? That's hard, bro. 13 pounds in two days is a long way to lose. So I just stopped eating, stopped drinking, sitting in saunas, spitting out all the water, just dying. Finally made weight, went to France, fought in 12 rounds. My first ever 12 -round fight as well, fought him. And they gave the decision to him, but I was wrong. I beat him. I beat him. I beat him. I didn't knock him out, but I beat him. Is this one of the four world championships, or this is the fifth? Well, it should be, yeah. But the tape was so convincing, the tape was actually sent off to the ISKA, the fighting organization, and they demanded a rematch. They knew I won, right? But he's France. He's French. He's in France. And fighting has a lot of politics to it. You have to understand, I mean, UFC is UFC, the real big ones. But outside of the smaller ones, it makes more sense for the French promotion of a French champion. They'll sell a lot more tickets and a lot more pay -per -views of the French champion. So basically either you knock him out or it's going to go down. It's kind of like that, right? So they commanded a rematch, and I rematched him seven months later and knocked him out in the eighth, and I became world champion. Okay. Why keep going once you've won? There's always a new mountain to climb. I mean, that's kind of, that's a good question, because that's also kind of the reason I quit. Because it's like, why keep going? Well, there's always someone new to fight, and I'm still not financially where I want to be. And I don't know what else I want to do with my life, so I'll keep going, right? So I fought again. I beat another Frenchman, and then I fought again. And then I beat two Dutch guys to become four -time world champion. But one day I woke up and I was like, is becoming five -time world champion going to improve my life? I mean, I've already got, do I need five belts? How much money do they pay for these fights? 3 ,000 bucks, 2 ,000 bucks. It doesn't even, you need to work on the side. You're giving up all your free time to get punched in the face. Like, it's a terrible decision. Like, I don't know why I decided to do it. But eventually, once I was world champion, I'd get like 100 grand to fight, but I'd give 20 % to my manager. Then the UK, with the UK taxes, 40, 50 % would disappear. And sometimes you only fight twice a year or whatever. I was certainly not rich. I didn't consider myself rich. So you get like 30 to 40 % of what? Yeah. And I didn't consider myself rich. Like, 30, 40 grand chunks, but twice a year, maybe three times a year. I'm living in London. London rents. I need a car. I'm trying to know, like, you're not rich in any way. And that's actually the reason I retired, because I woke up one day and I thought, I'm giving six hours a day of absolute focus and energy to this. And I believe I'm smart enough that if I put that much tenacity into something else, I can be a multimillionaire. I truly believe that. I was like, I've realized now I've reached the pinnacle of kickboxing. My choice is either to change over to MMA, which I was offered to do earlier in my career, but at the time, the kickboxing contract paid more money. I had to pay the bills, so I went kickboxing. Change over to MMA, learn to wrestle, change over to UFC, blah, blah, blah. But this is also like seven, eight years ago, where even the UFC didn't pay the money it pays now. But the UFC still doesn't pay that much money, from what I understand. No, if you're like top five or champion, yeah. But most of the dudes you're going to see there on the prelims, they're getting 10 grand a fight, nine grand a fight. It's nothing, right? So it'd be like starting my career all over again. And at the age of 28, I thought, I don't have the gumption to start again. I've been through hell for this. I've broken my hand eight times. My ribs have been broken. I don't want to do this all over again. So what do you do when you realize that, hey, maybe I don't want to keep fighting? I decide to get rich, Rich. What does that mean to you? When you're sitting there, you're getting 30, $40 ,000 kind of net on a per fight basis. Is rich to you like, hey, I want a couple hundred thousand dollars, a million bucks, 20 million dollars, a billion dollars? I want 30 or 40 ,000 every month. 30 or 40 ,000 every month, so about half a million bucks a year. I thought if I had that much money, I could do whatever I want. Okay. That's what I decided. So what's step one that you do? So step one is, maybe that's how we ended up here together, my friend. Step one is, I decided to be very logical about it, chess player, right? So I was like, I want money.

"Um My oldest So my oldest is kind of the ringleader of the bunch. Yeah His brother his brother just goes along with whatever he says, of course. Yeah, and so When he decided that he didn't want to talk to me anymore His brother kind of did too so I Try to reach out, you know, I posted a couple youtube videos on my channel saying that I think about them, you know I miss them. Yeah, um I've done everything that I can right and so I just have to find solace in that I guess, you know if they come to me they come to me and i'll be so happy and if they don't then It took me a lot to call my dad out On the perceived shit that I thought he did in my childhood Yeah, and I found out I was wrong about a lot of stuff, you know But it's still I was almost a I was almost an adult before I got the courage to try to check him on it so I'm, no stranger to the idea that Life is going to have to push at them before they're even interested in those things and I just have to be here When they're ready. Yeah, so the best I can do is just be available Man, i'm so sorry to hear that though because I couldn't that's so rough. Um It's yeah, it's um There's not a really there's not really words to describe how that one feels yeah It's just so far outside of the natural order, yeah, that makes sense. No, absolutely, you know Yeah, and it amazes me you hear about people abandoning their kids or not having anything to do with it I'm like, how do you do that? Like physically how do you do that? Yeah It's like when when your kids are born it's it's like something takes over you and you are like I need I will protect this thing Until the day I die because like this it's the most important thing and it's it's just such a different feeling I told their mother For the majority of the time we were together before my first son was born. I told her I love you more than anything. I've never I've never experienced this before And then my son was born and it turned to I love you more than anything except for my children. Yeah. Yep There's nothing there's nothing bigger. There's nothing more important. I don't care. I don't care at all. Yep, and Um Sometimes I worry that i'm a little overprotective um an example of that was My daughter wore I guess it's called a spaghetti strap. Oh, yeah the school the other day and um Like I say she's only 11. Um The school they didn't make a huge deal out of it they but they pulled her out of class they made her put a sweater over her shirt and all this and They they really made her feel like she'd done something wrong. Mm-hmm And so when she got home and she was upset and talking to me about I went straight down to the school And I was like who the hell is checking out my kid which one of your pervert teachers is looking at my kid, right? We need to worry about this and they're like no no one on our staff would do that I was like then what pervert kid are we worried about? Yeah, it's not that and I was like then why are you telling my kid she did something wrong when she did nothing wrong And it's you know, I understand culturally speaking that like People have different perspectives. They have different views on how children should present themselves I'm just i'm sorry. There's nothing sexual about shoulders and necks. There's just isn't yeah, and if you think and if people think that somebody's checking out a little kid because their shoulders are exposed and They're probably the issue doing that leave the child alone, right, right I mean we're born naked. Yeah, as far as i'm concerned. That's the natural state of being so when people pervert things like that, it's The purest form of evil I think it steals innocence from people. Yeah, definitely, you know my daughter She was doing nothing wrong and she was told there was somehow something wrong with her behavior or her clothes And i'm just like that's a lie. You're not gonna lie to my kid and I've noticed people are doing that a lot more They're doing it a lot more They're just not covid helped a lot in that regard because it just exposed the schools for pushovers that they are. Yeah Yeah, so a lot of parents are doing that whole thing where they're like you don't get to tell my kid that they somehow Messed up when they didn't do anything wrong. Mm-hmm I gotta take a drink real quick. Oh good But yeah, um I think dads Men are a protective class of our species. Anyway, you know, it's it's built into us. Um Yeah, it's a biological imperative so to me at least it makes sense that When you have a child and you experience that perfect innocence for the first time because there's no argument they've never done anything wrong Yeah, they're incapable of evil Like They've never gave anyone the sideways eyes. They're not passing judgment on nobody. They don't they don't care about the popular topic of the day and It creates a space in your head where? You can't do anything but love them, right? Yeah, because there's no argument. There's no there's no reason not to and they're So perfectly you And It's just it's a wonderful thing to know that No matter what happens now There are people who know me and love me and will remember me Way after i'm gone And there are people I care about more than anything else. So that's like I win dude. I already won no matter what happens now I win. Yeah And that's such a fantastic and freeing feeling to know that All I have to do is Usher them into adulthood in the most fun and best way that I can so that they're prepared for it and then I'm done. Yeah, I mean, that's all you can do prepare your kids for for adulthood, you know to get them out into the real world and You know, hopefully we do As far as advice goes that's a big one fellas, um, and any moms that are watching this please please please Raise your kids for the world. They live in not the way it's supposed to be Yes, it's it's good to talk about what's supposed to be it should be this way fine Make sure that they're ready for what it is And it's not great Yeah, that's just the truth i'm sorry, yeah, you know and a lot of people miss that they trade reality for idealism and then The kids grow up and the world isn't all peaches and cream like they were told And failure happens and then they think there's something wrong with them and there's nothing wrong with them. Life is just Rude, yep my ex-wife from my first marriage she's um she's one of those types that likes to do things to people and then You're the asshole for reacting right? Yeah And so now that she wants to be my friend and everything's peachy keen for her i'm supposed to just be happy about it And i'm not supposed to have any animosity or you know, just get over it and i'm like dude, right? The worst thing that you could be to a man. Yeah, like Yeah, I don't know how to get over that i'm sorry, maybe I suck but I don't know how to get over that yeah Yeah. Yeah what you put me through and it's that's almost the same as as my situation too It's but it's like as much as you put me through and now you want to try to be cool Now you want to try to do something but With mine, we're still in court. So even when she does do something or she tries to be nice I can't even take it as being nice because I know she's trying to get over on something For court or for you know, some sort of reason Isn't that crazy how much that can change your perspective on stuff? Yeah Well, like I don't even know if your intentions are pure anymore because of this shit. Yeah Yeah, like I don't know what to think. They're like, well you have all these bad opinions like no, I don't know what to think Exactly. I don't know if it's good or bad. Like I just don't know. I feel dumb as hell. That's what's happening Yeah, but because you've she's already done it a million times. It's like I know, you know, I know where this road's going. So Yeah, it's a tough one. Yeah, I mean It's definitely You know, I think that's something a lot of men don't talk about this shit is so confusing make you feel stupid every 10 seconds Yeah, and I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like feeling dumb Yeah, you know because I try not to be dumb. I make a concerted effort not to be dumb and so when I feel stupid i'm like This is a pretty important failure that i've come across, you know, well and you sit there and you're thinking you're like Am I in the like did I do this wrong or what am I you know And you're like going back and forth with yourself, but it's like no, you're probably right And you know, just don't cave to whatever she's doing Well, and that's the worst part is like you'll be right over and over and over and over again And somehow you're still sitting there questioning yourself. Yeah. Yeah. Am I gonna be right this time or am I just and it's like I don't like to talk about it this way because dudes tend to cringe about it, but It's fucking emotional abuse is what it is. Oh a hundred percent You're just being being manipulated and abused into thinking that It's not okay for you to be hurt When people do things meant to hurt you. Mm-hmm and it's like That's not real man. You're gonna feel things like If you're sad Just feel it be sad and like it's not going to consume you. I promise it's not going to consume you But it does suck yeah, but the faster you feel it the faster you can deal with it and Don't let anybody tell you that If somebody stabs you in the back, you should carry on with a smile. Don't let people tell you that dumb shit carry on because you can and because you're worth carrying on yeah, but Don't let anybody tell you how you have to carry on Yeah, I like that. That's a big one for me. Yeah. Yeah, that was cool. I like that one Do you know are you familiar with jordan peterson? Oh, yeah, I love him. I love his stuff Yeah, he says make your bed, you know, yeah make your bed. Yeah Start off simple. They add up. Yep. Yep. He is one of The smartest people i've ever listened to I mean he is brilliant He changed my whole thought process. I thought I thought I was supposed to be like some paragon of good intention and goodwill in the world to be a good man and then he said To be a good man, you have to be capable of great evil and choose not to do it. Otherwise, you're just unable. Yep and I said I'm a real person I'm choosing every day not to act on the urge to punch somebody in the mouth But you could if you wanted to exactly. Oh, yeah Yeah, you know and I didn't realize it at the time but and I don't think she did but my mom She put me and my brother through wrestling football martial arts I mean, I studied hopkido shodakan. My brother did judo and valtuto and karate and All these things and we thought it was just discipline, you know, because she was a single mom we thought but no she was giving us the ability to To choose to be good Because We can hurt people and we know we can hurt people so we have to actively decide not to no i'm not You hit me in the mouth. Sure I don't want to break you. This isn't happening right now. I'm wondering You know, like jocko willink says best fight you ever got into is the one you never had to be in. Yep You know, just just get the hell out of there man. It's not worth it You get sued you get beat up just about to say we just had uh an incident here back home Uh, i'm in portsman, damn sure but uh, these two dudes were fighting outside the bar And then he chased him into a parking garage the dude Was trying to get away fell off the parking garage ended up dying And now this dude's getting charged with with manslaughter Um, that's exactly what i'm talking about over some dumb shit. Yeah, it's not worth it. Yeah, it's just not worth it and One of the one of my favorite stories in that regard is I got invited out to the bar with some friends of mine and we went out to the bar and This girl was tagging along with us and one of the guys Had a crush on her and was not handling it. Well um, and I was married at this time and very much in love with my wife, so I I'm showing him pictures of my wife because he picked me out of the crowd somehow he's like, you know, please don't hit on her and like I'm talking to her like she's a human, you know, right and so i'm showing him pictures of my wife and I was like, you don't have to worry about it man, like it's i'm not concerned about that at all and he ended up freaking out and taking off and so i'm like I gotta talk to this guy. He's he's beating the shit out of himself over nothing Yeah So I tried I tried to follow him out the bar to talk to him and some dude just like hit tossed me out of nowhere I didn't see it coming at all. All of a sudden i'm on the pavement on my back and like just full of rage And all I could think i'm a state championship wrestler. So i'm no stranger to being on the ground, you know, yeah, and i'm thinking You know, I gotta throw my hips up. I got a bridge I gotta step over his body and put a rear naked choke on and then i'm like no get the fuck off of me Yep, and he let me go and I just walked off and My first instinct was to just choke this guy to death and I was like no man like no Nothing happened. Nothing actually happened. I've been thrown on the ground a thousand times in wrestling It's okay, and it's so hard to do something like that because one your pride all of that It's so hard to just get up and be like, you know what? It's not worth it. See you later You know what? I mean, I lost the friendship over it, right? I lost the friendship over it because the the guy who invited me out He was staying at my house because he was going through some troubles in his life and whatnot and um He was supposed to be my friend. He didn't Even so much as offer a word in defense of me nothing at all and so that upset me more than anything and I was like Where the fuck were you bro? Like you just let your friends handle me like that. Like I didn't do anything Yeah, you know i'm trying to be nice and trying to hang out with my homie and his friends and And he's like, well who said we were friends and I was like get the fuck out of my house Yeah, just get out of my house. Like you're not my friend. You're not living in my house What are you doing? Like that doesn't make any sense? Yeah, and Yeah, all because one dude Assumed I was gonna hit on a chick. He was interested in she didn't even like this guy. Right, right and i'm like That could have been so much worse if I reacted the way I wanted to it would have been so much worse because Now i'm on somebody's back choking him on the ground who's gonna kick me in the face who's stomping on my neck like Yeah, yeah, there's so many outcomes that could have could have went bad on that one Or do I successfully choke the poor bastard to death and end up in prison for the rest of my life? Like it just doesn't end well, no matter how you swing it. Yep I'm curious. Can you hear my kids in the background a little bit? Yeah, that's fine Yeah, there's no worries roblox, oh yeah, yeah we might get through in that in that phase for for a while I gotta say um It's really great what you're doing with your podcast. Thank you. No, thank you. Thank you having somebody out there Talking about these kind of things. Yeah That's what i've realized. It's so important because it started with rage, you know It started with because I was so angry. No one was listening to me. No one was hearing me So I and i'm a videographer so I you know put my stuff together and made a little podcast And the first episode was about my story and my situation and you know On there said my ex, you know saw it it wasn't good uh But yeah now it's just like it's so good because you hear these stories with different dads one It's like oh i'm not the only one going through this but two even talking about it like helps the other person too You know what? I mean? Like letting them release and and do all that stuff. It's great So and we're trying to build a little community Um, I mean like it's unbelievable how many dads are going through this like just on some of those facebook groups it's fucking wild Oh, yeah some of the stories i've read in um Uh, I think it's a single dad support group, um Just insane and i'm like you know, I spent days crying and days dealing with the fallout from my life And then just to read what some of these other guys went through i'm like my god I had it lucky exactly Yeah, yeah, like damn mine's not that bad so much work yeah, and it really puts life into perspective for you because And the reality of it is we're all brothers man, I mean Even if you're a purely scientific person, we all share a common ancestor You know, it's it's just the way that works and so in my mind The best we could hope for is to Acknowledge that life knocks people down and Be the person that's there to help them up when it happens. Yep especially in today's day and age where men are told how worthless they are and how evil and how bad and how and i'm just like You know, it's weird because some of the best people i've ever known are men and they're fiercely loyal and they're they're They'll do anything for the people they care about And But how could you expect them not to be wrathful if they give you their soul and you betray them You know that just seems to be like logical like a logical response, I mean I give you whatever it means to be my person and and you destroy me for it How do you expect somebody to react to that that's insane And and men get belittled and they get ridiculed and they get mocked and they're told that they're insecure if they don't want their spouse talking to other men or that they're they're not good enough if they don't have you know xyz salary or Their dick's not huge enough. So they're less of them and i'm like guys this is stupid like If you get shot in the chest, you think your dick's gonna save you right? Right? What are you talking about? Yeah, like it's none of that shit matters it doesn't and it's It's all preening, you know the way the birds do their song and dance to attract the the opposite sex it's that's what it is and I think as a society we kind of lost the thread on that because courtship doesn't really happen anymore, right? Yep, you know that piece that piece in dating is gone. There's no Shaking of the tail feathers. There's no doing the dance it's and so I guess sex is the courtship and That's just never going to work out well because there's supposed to be some kind of connection before that happens, right? Yeah, you know because what what's the result of sex probably a kid? So you could you know but as society moves farther and farther away from What I call the natural order, um, basically living with biological imperatives eat sleep, you know procreate breathe The really basic things The farther we get away from that the more Envoluted we make our lives, uh or needlessly complex, I guess would be the way to phrase that We're just tormenting ourselves and people seem to think that it's invented somehow it's advanced to I don't know get gout because you're pumping sugar into your body or you know diabetes or like I don't understand how that's advanced. Well, the crazy thing too is it's going further away From the normal, you know, eat breathe sleep all that stuff. We're going down such a I I think dangerous path. Um, I agree with you, but you know, yeah, that's a whole nother whole nother thing But yeah, I worry about that stuff a lot because definitely I worry about that kind of thing a lot because my kids If it's like this now And I remember how it was in the 90s I can't imagine what it's going to be like when they're 30. Yep. Yeah, and that honestly at this particular juncture It's kind of a terrifying thought. Yeah I don't know how to I don't know how to navigate the current state of things I I you know, I don't even know how to phrase that properly I don't know what's going on. Like I don't get it I don't understand how you look at a thing and just be like, nope, that's not real like but you can fucking see it It's like it's right in front of your face. What are you talking about? Yeah Yeah Yeah And so I have to explain to my kids that People are hallucinating on mass I don't know. It's like I don't know how to explain. Yeah. I mean, I think we're just we we're caring more about feelings than we are about actually reality and uh, you know, it's it's yeah, it's gonna be dangerous, but Yeah, I think I think emotions are powerful tools um from an evolutionary sense Uh, you know how pain is how your body tells you that something's wrong with the body and to be fixed or addressed Um pleasure in the same way pleasure tells you something good is happening to your body something desirable is happening I think emotions are that same mechanism but for non-physical things You know, um fear happiness, um, any of that is just our Mind and body's way of responding to our environment with things that aren't physical. Mm-hmm, you know because Fear isn't something you can touch or but you feel it you feel it. Yeah Um, it's very real and so we have to have a way to deal with that and I think that's Why we have emotions in the depth and and and breath that we do there's so much and I think if you take away the notion that your emotions serve an objective purpose and then Change that to everything you feel is just valid because you felt it, right? Yeah, now we're here. Oh, yeah. Awesome. Crazy one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I could I love that kind of stuff I could talk about it for a while But uh, oh, yeah, thank you for coming on the podcast and sharing your story. I really appreciate it and thanks for having me, bud Definitely awesome. Yeah. Yeah, i'm hoping that you know This this helps other dads out there who are going through something similar and uh, they can take some of the advice you gave away from it, so Yeah, I hope it helps. I hope it helps. Um, just know this guys Your circumstance is going to be a little bit different in a lot of different places than everybody else You know you you know your situation, you know what's happening to you Honesty In every regard just raw brutal honesty Solves everything I promise it does it might hurt now, but it fixes everything It's worth it just be honest with you be honest with your kids be honest with Everybody in your life that you ever interact with you don't owe them honesty, but you're good enough to give it to them. You're good enough Yeah, yeah, I gotta I gotta figure that one out with my with my oldest right now, so I'll take that. I'll take that away. Yeah for sure Awesome. Well, happy early birthday and uh, thank you again, man. Thank you. Awesome. All right. Have a good one, man Have a good one, bud.

People Were Blown Away by the Big Reveal in "The Karate Kid"

"Blackstone. Wax off. Don't forget to breathe. Very important. Wax on. Wax off. It's salmonella, but there's only one problem with that, Chris. Nobody waxes their car like that. It paints their fence. No, no, of course it's a nonsense. And I don't think that this would even be an effective way to teach karate. Hey. But don't destroy the whole movie. But listen, listen, this whole concept and the reveal as what he was actually teaching in the entire time. These were all lessons in how to do these karate moves. This was part of the reason why this was such a big film. That reveal was so profound. People were blown away. And they believed it. Oh, and I think that people who did believe, a lot of people joined karate because of this movie. You know, it was a big movement in America. But my mother, this is one of the few films I was permitted to watch. I watched a lot of films I was not permitted to watch when I was a kid. This is one of the ones I was actually allowed to watch. And part of the reason is because my mom, I think she read some articles. She was very wary of anti Christian stuff in movies. When I was a kid. But this film, somebody had written article where they perceived this these lessons by Miyagi as something like the Christian journey, oftentimes tragedy strikes us or we are going through some kind of a trial or a difficult time in life, and we don't know why, and only later on do we realize that this moment has actually totally prepared us for something else that we needed to do in our lives. And so mister Miyagi's lessons in my mom's mind were sort of like God teaching us Christians or religious people, you know, how to deal with certain things or how to be a better person. And so she really appreciated that metaphor. And so she really liked Karate Kid. I don't think the writers had anything like that intended. No. But you can look at it, you can look at it that way, I think.

Dr. G and Mr. Reagan Discuss the Lead Actors in "The Karate Kid"

"Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do, yes. Or karate do no. You can't do queso. Just like blip. Understand? And understand. Just like grape. Let's talk about these two actors. The lead in the supporting actor, a Pat Morita actually got an Academy Award nomination for this movie. A guy who'd been known, oh, I got to send you some of these images. We'll talk about these a little bit later, but talk about the double play. I actually think Ralph's performance is very solid. Talk to us about Ralph talk to us about pat. Oh, it's perfect casting, isn't it? Yeah. They said, oh, we need a genuine authentic Japanese actor to play this. Let's get an American born dude from California who was unhappy days. Yeah, that's perfect. Somehow this guy, I mean, this is all phony. His accent is phony, but he does such a great job. I mean, it's really masterful. And like I said, they picked the best guy for Daniel, really because he does have that touch of awkwardness that I think makes him very relatable. These days, they want to cast you as either like Asperger's level nerdy or they want to cast the hero as certainly better than anyone else ever in the history of the world. And it's probably going to be a black lesbian. But she's going to be amazing. So I've got a genius. But back in the 80s, they realized what the best person to play the lead in most movies is the average guy. Let's bring in somebody who's average. She's got a little bit of problems. But here was the magic about this that I don't think really people recognized at the time, but looking back, I think people have recognized a little bit more. I certainly did watching this time. This is actually a father and son movie. Of course. This is a movie because you think of it as like Obi-Wan Kenobi or even Yoda, right? There's obviously hints of that. When I was a kid, that's kind of how I viewed it. But looking back, I realize Daniel did not have a father.

Is There a Cheesier Movie Than "Karate Kid"? Chris Kohls Weighs In

"I got to ask the question here. How cheesy is this movie, Chris? Well, I will tell you what, there is a lot of cheese in this movie. With cheese grated on top and then toasted with an extra little slice of cheese added onto. There's like triple layers of cheese. Do we showing the opening scenes? I mean, on the beach, I mean, it is just so cheesy. With Elisabeth Shue rolling the ball over there, dude. It is cheese on. It is grand fromage. Yeah, except except I don't think what you really realize about this is that at the time, I don't think it would have been perceived that way. No. I think part of the reason that it's so cheesy today, we look at it, we think it's so ridiculous today, is because this movie set a standard that would be then copied and perfected over the years. Today, you would never see a film, which is just this kind of underdog story. And that's it. You would see this as a sub story. You would see this as a secondary character, something like this. There would be a primary story, and then the secondary story would be this guy getting bullied at the school, and he's got a face as bullies by the end of the film. That would be a secondary story or even a tertiary story. And the reason you don't see that as the primary story much anymore is because this movie did it so well that it was then repeated and copied a thousand times since then. And it's become cliche. It's become cheesy. But I think at the time, I don't think it was considered cheesy. I think it was just a very, very well produced picture.

"Chris Cole's welcome back. It's been a while. Yeah, it has actually, not for the listener, or the viewer, but for us it has because we shot these in a weird order. It has it feels like a really long time, but it's so fun to get back into it, and what a great movie to do so with Karate Kid a classic. The first in a franchise, cartoons remakes, you name it now a new TV show Cobra Kai a spin off. You chose this movie, why did you choose it, Chris? Well, you know, this is one of my childhood favorites. I think it's my brother's was my brother's favorite movie for many, many years. And it's just one of these films where when you're a kid, you know, it's an underdog story. It's obviously it's like one of the quintessential underdog stories in history. And underdog stories have existed since the dawn of time. But I don't think they ever made one quite like this, and then once they made Karate Kid, I don't know if everybody remembers this. I was born in 79. So when this movie came out, I was about four years old. But it was a phenomenon. I mean, it was sort of in the same way Beverly Hills cop was. This may have even been bigger because although it didn't do as well as at the box office, this was a movie for kids and at least kids of my generation, everybody just loved Karate Kid. People wanted to take karate, Japanese culture became more interesting to people and this movie just changed American culture. It was a really, really big deal. They did the underdog story better than probably anybody else ever except for probably rocky, obviously. What's the connection? The connection of course is the same director. Yes, same guy who did rocky John Alvin also directed this one. He was accused of making basically rocky with karate for kids, so basically it's a ripoff of his own movie.

Bloodthirsty is not a word you usually see in a job description. She's ready to take on the city's rat population, which some pay get 2 million others much more. I will bring a science and systems based approach to reducing New York City's rat population. With a strong focus on cutting off the food, water, and shelter, rats need to survive. Mayor Eric Adams, who's had some rat problems of his own expects her to be merciless when it comes to the city's most cunning enemy. Rats think they run the city. And we are serious about this. "Is what we're always afraid of. Being misunderstood and thinking that this is a serious message. And that we're actually hating on white people because that could be the bad. That could be very bad. Yeah, I mean, you know, just because you're making fun of this trope doesn't mean that you that it extends to all people, you know, hashtag not all white people. But absolutely. And at the same time, I think the more that people are forced to contend with this, the more it opens up some conversation, not just about white saviors, but about a lot of the other adjacent tropes around it. I mean, you know what, I'll dive in and add my own bad because it was something that was I thought really kind of thoughtful about the comic even, right? Where it's like you begin by talking about the white savior, but then over the course of the comic, you're also like, you have discussion around women heroes and what they're supposed to be. You know, you have this ingenue type character. And you kind of skewer her a little bit in terms of her preferences, you know, who she thinks the love interest should be. You have and then you have this character who ends up, you know, he's like the friend, African American friend, of the protagonist, and then he invokes the concept of the magical Negro, right? And it was like, all of a sudden, people are talking in terms of almost like screenwriting tropes, but in the context of the plot, it is meaningful because you've set it up in such a way that all the audience in the panels, right? The villagers, the marauding force, they're also aware of these things that they actually bend to those tropes. And I guess for me, the bad part, and that's the good part, right, being able to play with those things. But the bad part to me is that simply having a white hero, it's not bad or good. Heroes can be and can be any background any context. What I think is bad is the way that having a white white male hero forces all the other characters often into secondary roles, simply because the way that stories are constructed for mass consumption, and very often it means that if there's an Asian character that Asian character becomes, the Asian sidekick, or becomes the Asian buffoon, or becomes the ancient guru, right? And the Asian guru is something we see all the time with white saviors where I mean, actually there wasn't, I think, an Asian guru in white savior of the comic, but you think of something like Karate Kid or any of these other things where in order to actually get the white savior fully trained up on whatever traditional art or skill that they're capable of doing better than the actual people, the native peoples themselves.

"Well, if you'd said that originally, maybe that would have been better, but you didn't say that. I didn't. You must as rude as you almost as rude. As Karate Kid Brown. Let me so hard to pick a title this week. I have a whole list here, mister president. It's going to be very tough. Now after in a title for the Patreon people, how about we go with two titles and you release it under one title for the patreons and then another title for the poor rude freeloading radical left Democrats. That's not a bad idea. I like that idea. Now I'm going to say a person's name and I want you to give me your first opinion on them right now. Mo Brooks, mo Brooks, no problems. Another title. I don't think there's ever been. And as you know, the greatest podcasting person in the history of podcasting or people, but I don't know if we've ever been this on fire. I don't know if we've ever been. I think this is, this is one of those episodes where you have episodes like Samsung that become legendary, the minute they drop. Whatever we title this episode, we just this is legendary. This is legendary stuff. This is legend, but you know, without Will Smith being all black and I understand. Maybe it's because we're doing it on the day of day of prayer on Sunday. So maybe that's what the lord said to me said if you do it on Sunday, sir, it's going to be extra strong. And once we announced that we were double billing. God and Trump, I think that's right. You know, I think he owes me a little bit of thanks, but I'll thank him too. We can thank each other. God respect Trump. Now, with mo Brooks, mo Brooks more problems. He said it makes such a way mo Brooks. It's a double R in there. Sir. Look, I'm doing almost a black comedian. I'm tech stuff guy, and I say more problems. It's the R's in there. This is because the R is in here. Well, I like the hard hours, obviously. You know, you know that about me, I'm very pro hard. "When you begin to anticipate seeing this person more than going home and seeing your spouse, you are sliding. Sideways. People used to talk about if people say in ses, you know, it's just the anticipation of going to work and seeing them. And having conversation with them or having a cup of coffee with them, et cetera. You can do this. It's just very easy. We see our spouses at the two worst times of the day. In the morning when we're trying to get out the door, get the kids fed, get the books together, making sure everybody's happy, got their lunch, the shoes they need for the baseball practices or the karate closer. It's terrible. We had four kids. I know, okay? And then in the evening, you come back and you start the same thing in reverse and you go to bed exhausted. It's very easy to begin to anticipate seeing somebody who's fully dressed, Claude in the right mind, and who has been thinking maybe even about you, okay? It's just easy to do. When you begin to compare the spouse to this friend, saying,

"And as the placebo has got more and more involved re karate. Jeff became more and more of a fixture in the families orbit. You have to remember. Jeff is only twenty four. He's a young guy and he doesn't know anyone in baton rouge so we're sure. He's thrilled that his family is welcoming him in and he's getting the sense of community that most people crave jody's parents were thirty. Nine year olds. Gary in june and they really liked jeff in the boys saw him sort of like an uncle figure. One particular time jody's at gary brought jeff home with them for family dinner and gave him spare clothes to change into and after that jeff would start bringing the boys home from karate he would take them tournaments as well as other fun activities connected to the fight team. There was real trust built between jeff in that family but on february nineteenth nineteen eighty-four that trust would be shaken to the core was january nineteenth. Nineteen eighty-four it was a sunday morning. He asked my my little border. Cork this is how close this family had become far each other's cars and things like that jeff told jody's mom that he didn't have his car because his brother dropped him off and that he needed his car because of some business dealing with having to do with down with his brother. So jody's mom. June said sure or the car. Jeff said he'd have the car back soon and then he laughed but he brought jody with him. They did meet up with. Jeff's brother. Mike in port arthur but it definitely wasn't to conduct any business. We drove out to his brothers. Mike house grab some clothes and sleeping bag and other stuff and we took my mother's call from gonzales. Louisiana support arthur texas and. That's where his mother and sister live. That's where he was from. Okay so why. The hell is jody with jeff on this excursion. And what exactly is going on here. Here's jody on what happened next. We say we just sunday night. And then the next day we went to another port louisiana looking for money basically. We didn't have any money. Okay so let's unpacked. Some of what is going on here. Jeff borrowed the car belonging to the mom of a little boy. He teaches karate to he said little boy with him but they don't go where they said that they were going the grab clothes and camping equipment and then jeff takes jodi out of state and we assume that right now alarm bells are probably going off in your head and have been for some time. Now they're going off and ours too but remember it's nineteen eighty four and it's unclear at what point jody's parents would have realized that jodi was actually missing and it's not like jeff had a cell phone that they could call at anytime of the day so at this point. Just imagine the paralyzed state of jody's family. Who do you call. would you do. And how the hell do you track down your kid

"Skateboarding is one of six new ish. Sports added to the olympic lineup this year. Which has a lot of people wondering what does it take to be added and is some get taken away and sometimes return emily vanderbilt dug into these queries over at vox. She knows that these six new sports mark the biggest edition since nineteen twenty but also that so many events have been removed. The overall number of events has gone down from three hundred thirty nine to three hundred twenty nine. The six new sports consist of four actually new ones skateboarding surfing karate and sportclimbing as well as baseball and softball which were last featured as olympic sports. In two thousand eight and baseball and softball won't be returning in twenty twenty four in paris nor will karate although skateboarding surfing and sport climbing will all be there. And we'll be joined by break-dancing baseball and softball will be back at the twenty twenty eight games in los angeles however what's with all. The shuffling around prevent were a lot of it has to do with the international olympic. Committee's agenda twenty twenty which was adopted in twenty fourteen and part of its aim is to quote give individual host cities more control over which events are metal sports and quote so it makes sense that baseball fanatics japan would bring it back as would the us. And i can see how france wouldn't care as much break-dancing meanwhile makes sense for a continent super into street dancing and as vanderhoek notes while there's a lot of actual criteria for inclusion as a sport and you do need to have global appeal. It often helps if you a appeal. Particularly to the host nation in be are popular with the youths. According to her in. Vox the ioc has increasingly used the youth olympics. "This is going to sound really long pretentious. But i developed a lutheran eco feminist crystallography for hamas medical theory and practice and in layman's terms. That mean in. Layman's terms trying to help preachers. Think about how to address creation care issues in their sermons. Oh wow wow. So that was my first book creation crisis preaching in college theology in the pulpit And you know. I think that you would not normally think of ecology and faith but i am coming to find the more i've been doing this and the more i've been really just trying to say yes to god and inches. Open up that relationship with him. That god is everywhere. And he's part of everything so for example. I just talked to someone yesterday. Who has a podcast. That is about the intersection of faith and true crime. Ooh and now i know right. That's that's coming up. So yeah listen for that. And you're talking about facing ecology and i mean if we really looked at it. Nothing should be weird about it to be honest. He's apart everything and we should recognize that but often we don't right yeah. Yeah and scripture is filled with images stories about creation and we are commanded to to till in to keep the garden which is the earth itself. So yes there is. There are lots of connections between faith and ecology so that we can have a conversation about that at some point in the future. But i know he went to talk about pop. Culture in how pastors are portrayed in pop culture. Because that's what brought us together in the first place to have this conversation and absolutely and i think pop culture is such a big part of a lot of people's lives. no yes. There are people like my husband who doesn't watch a lotta tv. Mostly many of us love pop culture. And i think that if we can bring something that is a part of someone's life anyway and insert a little bit of a faith a little bit religion a little bit of the importance of god into where they are. I think that's always a good thing. So hopefully that will happen with these series of conversations that we're going to have at yes you're right. The arts certainly represent women of god and men men of god in lots of different ways sometimes not so great and sometimes great and in cobra kai which is on netflix. And it is the. "Yeah there's like ganguly wan. There's like i guess you know from selling toys. Perspective is probably what they're looking at it from call the movie the return of the jedi. Does it right like they. There's enough variants. You can tell the different characters by how look them. Golden bear one. Yeah there's the old black and gray were on who's like the leader and it's bigger than the ones that that's enough As long as we're coming down that you go to shane. Dis review the second to e walks films by far the weakest. However it does have some notable things for better or worse wilford britney's presence make this makes this a hell of a lot more heart warming than the first wicket now speaks fluent english. Which is just let's lear dude. Just give him subtitles. I just stop reading their star so sad. They made wicked talk. Yeah i don't remember that. To dude wicked w warwick is that just. The actor's name was because his work with you warwick is a fictional character from the star wars franchise. I mean it's cool that it's it. Were traded davis the wonderful actor. Who's betrayed them forever. And actually i just watched solo last night. Proven that i want. This hour's he has a cool cameo on that as well on the freedom fighters seen it. Anyway i'm going to end with this one review. That really brings the cat out of the bag on. This movie Ken s rights. Personally i found this made for tv movie to be actually better than the first. I mean neither is particularly good but this one at least had more fun a little bit more action and some fun new characters village which the first one severely lacked. The i was dole throughout this one was a tad more fun. They kill off most of the family from the first movie early. Only leave only the little girl alive. We always good for a family. cd special. it's truly hilarious. Start off at move aimed at little children with the death of an entire family. Sleep tight kids. The best part though is this movie stars will bramley. She's totally awesome again. I wouldn't recommend either of these movies. Unless you're a die hard star wars fan or like weird strange things. I found them interesting but nothing too special. Two and a half stars and yeah. It's like wilford. Bridges lives in the woods with with a speed monkey. Walk thing. what is they're just doing coke. Who assist weird gangly Woods doing his wilford brindley for family. That's i wanna live out in the woods with wilfred brindley mustaches together. Doing coke something you're existence while you're reading reviews. I thought it would be a bit so us for the third movie. Their likes Gonna watch this garbage. We've already revealed that. This is sort of a embarrassment to the stars franchise on obviously just some money raker but Got put him in the seats. You know we got get put people in front of that silver screen and so they're going to do co lab with a mr miyagi himself. Oh it's going to be karate.

Mr miyagi applies his ball sack directly to the wound. Which you know what to give credit where credit is due. It is an old chinese tradition. Why didn't they call his all sack. Dumplings like a missed opportunity. I have to say though i agree with. What are you guys said earlier. I am exceptionally impressed. With how far both evans stone. And tommy kissel were able to stretch. Your boss acts. Because i was going to be part of the film i honestly assumed going into this at the very last scene was going to be instead of like a kick to the face a kicked the nuts. I anticipate that. I did not anticipate stretching your ball sack your opponent's face and wasn't really gonna talk about this but i actually experienced that from tommy pistol. He has stretched his sack over my nose and mouth and you can breathe into it and you can see it like puff up though that so far. It's pretty fucking funny. It's like when you put silly putty on your knee your paper. Yes like tommy pistol. Tell me festival. Can you breath through his boss. Ac never it's like being waterboarded with like kenya. Roommate waterboarded with taffy historically. There's a number of people who haven't considered waterboarding torture which they said but i feel like it's step up where you're being waterboarded by ball sacks and i think this is where we should have gone with the rush limbaugh of the world prior to them dying like a we should waterboard you a ball sacks just so you have a clear conscience before you die be waterboarding but probably be the equivalent of putting a plastic bag over someone's head to matt's oh is what you know. It seems like born as one of those things where it's like it just would not be a constraint because everyone fetishizes everyone so a porn categories like if in the performance have a hard time making it or was that can't be put into box like what are you bet if more boxes you can take off the better you do because it's all about an algorithm for search engines. Yeah that's true exactly like before you started this podcast you you know you could have been latina. And now you're what is it rachel bell. Oh yeah yeah yeah. Yeah on those all. I've always called myself like a racial chameleon. I'm like i could be whatever you want. I got a lot of white roles. 'cause even though i'm mexican native american i am the whitest human being you'll ever meet. I love mayonnaise and frankly a lot of white girls put on makeup to be super heavy. So it's like like the arianna 'grande at a little bit. I have to say though. I have to agree with cobra kai on one thing which is i can kind of see. Why johnny is the real karate kid. I could see why he's not totally in the wrong. Oh yeah there's a great you should look it up after and your your listeners. Should listen to it after this episode. There's a really funny thing on youtube where it's like a guy breaking down. Why daniel is the bully like he was like. Let's see all the like go through knows like oh yeah in another context. He is the bully. And i think that's part of the reason cobra kai was made. It was kind of this fan. Fiction like alternate universe. Daniels actually not such a great guy. Yeah in original film. You have daniel where he's picking a fight with johnny. I would assume it's around summer or the start of school and then literally months go by and then daniel unprovoked by johnny attacks. Him while he's like trying to roll a blunt in the bathroom. Or shall i all right. That's kind of a dick move like don't get me wrong. Johnny totally overreacts multiple times throughout the film in the racial karate kid. But it's not completely unwarranted and i think it's pretty clear that he was in some sort of abusive household. Where probably the father figure in. His house was like only using strength to like disciplined him. And so i think it's probably learned behavior..

Banks are getting interested in big data to figure out their climate risk

"Biden administration has made tackling climate change a priority and a big element of the business story around climate. Change is risk the risk to cities states countries companies and the banks that invest in. All of them. Some regulatory bodies like the european central bank require risk assessment and the federal reserve. May eventually as well emily. Massive karate runs the company. Four twenty seven a subsidiary of moody's she helps companies and governments figure out the risk climate change poses to them. I spoke with her last fall. The very first thing that needs to hunt bone is first to understand identified the nature of the risk this could be storms floods wildfires what those impacts are going to be and then the second step is to understand how those impacts translate in terms of financial risk credit risk and. This is where we're working closely with our parent company moody's to understand how exposure to extreme weather events for example translate in terms of impacts on cash flow on asset valuation and therefore whether we see an increase in the risk of default or whether we anticipate an impact on the stock performance the type of metrics that investors managers are going to be looking at is moody starting to take an investments climate risk into account when giving it a rating is that on the horizon so start with the disclaimer. Which is i am not speaking. On behalf of the credit rating agency moody's investors service but who we are a key data provider to the input and they are now a number of reading activities where physical risk is being incorporated systematically so for example when looking at muniz state or city in the united states. There's going to be a paragraph. In the opinion that describes whether there is risk related to climate or other environmental social governance risks If you think a city like venice or a certain states on the east coast the the long term implications of potential impacts on properties and infrastructure that our coastal can be really meaningful and so it gets a little bit to the question of on the one hundred time horizon. when will this become sufficiently disruptive that it would become a financial issue and also a matter of what is the adaptation and resilience policy and planning around that such that. You know that some of those effects could be mitigated or could be if not avoided at least managed in a way that is not so harmful to the city from economic and financial standpoint.

This is professor robe ramsey as a molecular biologist and kansas scientist and on the saudi also makes art. He's a black belt in karate rossi's by his husband father of two children but trying to understand how the natural world works was a i love of his and i've always been driven by trying to understand biology and i'm also a little bit inclined to like machinery and structures and the way things work and essentially sells Machines and i like the way they operate and they're really have siamese different facets to them and of causing disease machinery goes wrong for me. The very first day i was in an operating theatre watching people take cancerous. Lump sexually as it was then breast cancer. I was instantly captivated. This is professor. Declan murphy lading urologist and kansas surgeon. He's been in a for over a decade but you can he he's rh lilt and even though it's cancer he's dealing with everyday like rob. He's loved his job. Died dot. I was in the operating theatre was meeting these patients before and after as a medical student and honestly i just became almost overwhelmed by the idea that people will allow other people to do surgery on them. That it's such a huge privilege to be allowed to do surgery but i was fascinated by urology because it's it's quite a a big field work. In it's everything from the kidneys dancer. The bladder and the prostate and the pain is in. The testicles are all areas in the urology domain that can be affected by cancer. Now dick lennon rob happened to be call. Eggs at the pay to mccallum will pay to mac cancel santa in melbourne as a scientist rob's focused on amongst other tricky conundrums developing vaccines that target gastrointestinal cancers like colorectal cancer as a surgeon declines leading the way with us robotics in the operating theatre and often the cancer arena. You'll find that scientists and surgeons just don't traditionally makes much but robin declan like many others at paid amac a different because i want to do science. That reflects the needs of people with cancer and the clinicians trading them are remember being at a hospital where declan was doing a tag team robotic procedure on a patient was having some colorectal surgery plus a prostatectomy and i was there on saturday morning with my eyes pocket collecting some samples clincal trial without doing their in the operating room because these patients have agreed to be part of a trial in that case. That was a patient to kansas. Quite complex work but rob wanted some tissue as some cancerous tissue to take into the lab. And i was watching these two guys work. Seamlessly together is something is a of beauty in any group of people that do things well together and there's almost subliminal communication. What's coming next that i'm bumping to each other The theater staff all expert. They work as attainments really like a formula one team. It a stop and i'd never. I've never worked in the center where you will have a a professor of colorectal science in the operating room with you so and we get used to that at peter. Mac it's the same prostate the same for melanoma central breast and and i just find as an extraordinary environment. I've never worked in a place that has that. Degree of translational multidisciplinary care where people are. They're asking the questions taking the tissue doing trials etcetera etcetera. And it's just a extraordinary. I can do some cool things in my lab question. I of been geneticists for most of my research life and we can do cool things with jane's in cells and also indeed on animals and you can find great science out of that but does it always reflect what's going on in the patient and the answer is sometimes but not always and i want to the always it is relevant. What happens in a patient. It's all about the patient in the has always westbound lot that though so these two colleagues late in their fields in cancer but then kind of a sudden curve ball and a role change. The scientists in the surgeon were about to become the surgeon. And he's patient he's rob i have a great jp. I've been going to for quite a long time. Really thoughtful considerate kanda guy. We've we always have a great show. When i go to visit him. I have a checkup every six months. For basically blood blood pressure to have a level that cannot be controlled just by exercise and diet.

"We were talking about these internal demons that you struggle with that. you perhaps still struggle with. How do you work through that. How do you think about those now. I think what happens with a lot of us is that we ended up talking to ourselves about what we don't want to do in our minds. It's like i don't wanna lose. You know i don't want to get knocked out you know. I don't want to be ashamed in of you know in front of a million people and what ends up happening. Is there certain. Words that stick out lose you know knocked out Embarrassed and our intention is to not have those things happen to us but the words themselves. I think speak louder than our intention. You know so. I think it's important to try to reword our thoughts if that makes sense totally agree but So in of saying. I don't wanna lose the night. Tell myself i'm winning. You know instead. Instead of telling myself that i'm nervous. I tell myself unexcited because those two feelings are pretty much the same.

"I'd like her to go from well. It's very interesting. I didn't think about it that way. But you're right is that's a new standard because you know we're all we're we're really unlimited right and something that i talk about a lot and it's we're only limited by our own minds and most people. That normal is down here. He set the bar so low for themselves. See just a little bit of success. Is something oftentimes that. How can i ever get there. How can i get to where michelle but if that becomes the new normal then it's like well trump that i've i've got to beat that right there. That's the that's a very valuable perspective. How do you think she feels the win. She sees you when when you get beat up when you're hurt you know they're they're less as there for sure I think that her main concern is that. I'm okay you know and then after that it's like i remember one time. I had the shuffled off to the hospital right after my so. I didn't even get a chance to see her but she stayed up because she wanted to see me before when i came home so it was probably one o'clock in the morning. She was up 'cause she wanted to make sure i was. Okay and i remember walking into the hotel room. And i could barely see because my eyes were both swollen shut from bruising and i just remember her looking up at me and kind of staring at me and just looking at me like i was. I wasn't mommy like i looked different. And she kind of just grabbed my hand and she was like mommy or uk in house. Confined baby you know. I told her a little heartbroken. But i'm okay. And then she was like okay and then she gave me a big hug and then we went and lay down in the bed and then it was. You know kids have no filter. You know so. She's like well. I guess we can't celebrate now since you lost like. Yeah no celebration here. Back to jain boys you know but That's the thing she wanted to. I wanted to know if i was okay. And then and then we moved on. Well i say you look like you've never been hit in the face and your life much less to swollen. I'll yeah for three three broken noses. Huge hematoma busted lip is.

Sea Hunt - It's Still Alive - Synthetic Hero

"It's time for another installment of seon. It's still alive and this time we're going back to season. Three episode twenty titled synthetic hero synthetic hero first aired on may twenty first nineteen sixty and we find might down in a caribbean harbor whereas working with a company. Dredging that harbor as mike is underwater scouting ahead of the dredge. He finds an uncharted wreck and discovers. That it's the navy. Ls number four to seven seven and s. t short for landing ship tank one of those ships that can push up onto the beach and offload equipment. I spent three years on t. Eleven ninety eight. The us bristol county in the late nineteen seventies. Well mike notifies the navy and meets with a captain sellers. Who tells mike that lsd four to seven seven went missing on september twelfth. Nineteen forty four. He also tells mike that eighteen crew members die. Two of the survivor's however jack clayton. Who was the captain and tom. Maury who clayton a hero saved might be interested in the finding captain. Sellers asked my to find out what happened before the dredging operators blow up the ship in the next scene mike walking down the pier carrying his doubles in one hand and the other equipment slung over his shoulder. One handed doubles. Wow there he meets the survivors. Jack clayton in tom. Worry along with jack's wife. Susan is it me or there are a lot of suzy's and susan's on john. Jack wants to dive with. Mike and tom will be on. Deck for support might convince the dredging operators to give him forty eight hours on the rack and try to find out what happened to l. s. t. four to seven as the scene shifts. We see jack getting into his gear. Mike i'm not so sure jack knows what he's doing. Jack says he's just a little rusty so the giants dryden and make their way to direct can split up. Mike little confused because jack doesn't seem to be all that incompetent in the water. Well they don't find anything and get back on the vote jackson's really agitated. They only have one more day to solve the mystery as the sun comes up the next day and they're back on the water. Mike is getting all geared up and ready to go. Clayton is fiddling around. Mike frustrated at the delay when suddenly clayton drops tanks over the side. And you see it's sinking to the bottom. Mike has no choice but to retrieve it and hoping that this is last delay and that the tank isn't a jinx on jack's back so now the two of them are back. Underwater jet goes to the bow area. And mike heads. Aft inside the engine room. And he finds a blast hole below the waterline as he exits the space with this newfound knowledge. Suddenly a nightmare of junk is falling on top of him. It could only have been shoved on top of him by one person jack. Clayton isn't a clumsy amateur. Mike frees himself and chases. After jack jack pulls knife and they get into a fight might prevails and takes jack back to the surface with a hammerlock back on the boat. We find out that. Jack wasn't trying to kill mike. Just trying to scare you. See jack confesses that it was all his fault that l. s. t. four to seven seven sank during the attack. It says he's he steered the ship into a reef where it sank and that the enemy didn't do it at all. Tom is very angry now. And they locked jack in the cabin while mike makes one more dive on the wreck. Mike is back in the engine room now and he finds something just then dynamite from dredge operators detonates and the ship starts to collapse on mike he stuck in his regulators damaged back topside jackass yelling to get out because might my need help. Tom refuses pleased. So jack breaks out of the cabin and gives tom a karate chop knocking him out. Jack johnson finds mike. They buddy breathe while he frees him from the wreck and you get back to the bill before they surface. Susan comes aboard. Gets weeks. Tom up just mike and jack return. Jack tells suzy the ship sinking was all his fault. Susan doesn't care. She understands just then. Mike produces his find a piece of metal from japanese shell. That shank sank the four to seven seven. Jack still a hero a synthetic hero. Well i guess. Hollywood took a lot of liberties here. Let's see an ls t. Operating independently in the caribbean by itself doing battle with either a japanese ship or submarine seems a little farfetched. But as we know from mike nelson. Nothing is improbable.
