"Kappler on his closer struggles to this point. You know his fastball doesn't have its best life right now. I don't think that zone talk to tell. I think Jake would tell you the second one. He when he's at his best. His fastball is really tearing into. He's missing more baths. And he is right now, but not something that we're gonna kitchen you worked on with him and supporting through, but obviously he's not in his best, and I think that's important to acknowledge. It was eight consecutive outing to start the season without allowing Iran and now in his last six out, and she's allowed 4567 runs in his last six, added so that Is not going well right now at the back end of the pen for the Giants, and he's saying capper was there that he doesn't have the same life on his fastball. And then I'm not gonna not gonna pretend to know what he's seeing, but the velocity was there yesterday. He was throwing as hard as he's throwing all season. And I remember. You know, when he was getting out to the beginning of the year we were going boy in 95 out of his hand. Looks a little faster. Guys were having a tough time picking up 94 95. He's gonna pull you away with 98 99 Wait. You see his lunch wages, launching Who may be off of Jake we keep lately. Yeah, Yesterday was not all that good, but he was pumping 94 yesterday. He just didn't have it. You give up that many Hanson. It's the 11 pitch over and over and over again, guys can time it up, you know, throw a slider. Pro slider. I think all the time about that movie. I've quoted it before. Mystery men with a Hank his area and Ben Stiller, William H. Macy and tell from Keenan Intel. They put like these second rate like B or C class. Quote superheroes is my air quotes, Day for you, but the center quote the Yankees area characters, a standing the Blue Raja and Dave. He's always throwing like I think he's always throwing spoons or something like he's throwing. He can. He's like he can throw him fast like he's that's his skill like you can fling them around. Let's say it's whatever his superpower is, but at some point, Ben Stiller's like, do Would it kill you at some point to throw a fork? Is there. Isn't there anything sharp? Like he doesn't wanna be a knife thrower. Just wanna wanna critically injure or kill anybody by throwing afford, so he's throwing spoons all the time. And so I'm watching Jake McGee. And I'm thinking the same thing. I'm like, Dude, would it kill you to throw up? Throw a fork once in a while, Jake, could you throw a slider up there every once in a while? That's all I think about What I see him getting knocked around anyway, struggling at the back end of the bullpen right now for Jake McGee and the Giants. How about this? No. We'll hear from Brandon Belt real quickly. Here on the eve of Ah, Willie Mays is 90th birthday. He becomes the first giant since Willie Mays to hit a home run in the first inning of both ends of a doubleheader. He doesn't Ah Grand slam in the first game, And then he'd just say it's a two run homer in the second game, Brandon Belt, They come in Bunches, by the way, Buster Posey hot another home run yesterday as well, anyway, Here's Brandon Bone, talking about something that only he and Willie Mays have done pretty cool for the Giants. That's pretty cool. I never Thought about that before, but you know to be mentioned in the same sentence this maze. I mean, that's that's pretty awesome. And I know we got a little celebration for him when we go back home, So pretty cool week so far. Yeah, I went to the Giants of made it known that they're doing a little celebration for his birthday. And then one more here from Brandon Belt talking about his good friend. I guess that's 100 Pence. His great friend Buster Posey, the Brandon's and end and Buster getting it done yesterday, the three longest 10 year, Giants three, the oldest guys on the team, kind of cool to see all of them. Get into the action yesterday. Brandon Belt on What's the biggest aspect of posies game? It makes him feel like he's back because everybody keeps saying Buster's back busters back. What element of Buster Posey now makes You feel like he's back to the old Buster early in his career. He definitely was able to try the ball the other way a lot. He's doing that right now, for sure. Nobody's seen him A few home runs. $2000. Yeah, perhaps still S so pretty cool to see that. You know when somebody could do that they're usually on. Yeah. Buster's look Damn good seven home runs now for Buster Posey and playing these these, You know, two days on one day off has been pretty good for Buster. So hey, on the other side will get the I'm gonna get my first live face off and The year plus with Murphy, an actor in studio will be popping in. We'll do the face off. We get rolling with Mercer Mac. If we have time before that, I'll hit on some of this Golden State warriors stuff. I do want to get a little bit of this stuff about them playing shorthanded basketball yesterday spot Myers at fault here, so they have filled out this roster a little bit more. Could you be playing for a six seed? If you had a couple extra bodies and really right now, you're just sort of limping in at the back end of the season. This is Supposed to be the soft part of the schedule, and it is not shaken up that way. At least right now for the Warriors on the other side, a little dip into that and then the face off with Murph in back all that's coming up. It's a Wednesday morning and you're the leadoff.

"This is the baseball tonight podcast for Wednesday, June fifth two thousand nineteen bust only a producer every day is Josh macrey before the Phillies game in San Diego yesterday. The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Andrew mccutchen has a tourney yell in his left knee. He's out for the year. Gabe Kappler the Phillies manager, talked about it really disappointing are mentioned it last night, that Andrew has has not just been a catalyst at the top of our lineup a catalyst in our clubhouse, somebody that everybody under that respects greatly. We, we look to him for guidance and support and for that reason. Nice here, Andrew mentioned that he's gonna stick around as much as possible that something that, that I discussed prior to talking to you and basically said, I, I asked him if we want him around much possible, because he makes. Nobody better and his energy is always welcome in our clubhouse. Tim Corcoran was not sportscenter with Kevin Gandhi talking about the impact of this injury on the Phillies lineup. This is a bad loss. Look, he's not the player. He was a few years ago when he won the MVP but he's been a big upgrade defensively in left field. He's the best leadoff hitter on their team. He controls the strike zone. He's great in the clubhouse Jay, Bruce will help, but with Oduber Harare, also having some issues at the moment, the Phillies are in trouble in the outfield and it got much worse today when mccutchen went down and we'll talk about all those issues coming up here as you go along in the podcast today. Now the first day of mccutchen absence. Jay Bruce was in the.

"If you're if you're losing fourteen to one of the ninth inning just why even play the ninth inning right but especially if you're just gonna use a position player on the mound and you're not really getting anything out of it but if you are earlier in a game i don't think the teams would be looking to forfeit i think that there's value in getting the repetitions and there's value in you know trying to make some sort of history and also i think that a little more difficult to articulate but there's value in trying to preserve the constant sense of competition and just trying to make things look like you are still trying really hard i mean at the end of the day you're just out there for three hours just trying to win a baseball game and if even if you are losing horribly or maybe winning core bley you can still put forth a modest effort that is convincing enough on camera to make it look like you care so i think we the virgin of forfeit that we do observes that position players do take them out in that taking the man more and more often but i think that if teams were to actually try and i'm not clear that it's even possible for teams to request this but if teams were to actually try to forfeit games that they're losing horribly i think that the benefits to that would be very very very small and they would be outraged because people have paid to come to a baseball game people pay to be able to watch a baseball game and if you're taking time away from that then there will be people will will would be curious if teams are forfeit it would it's one of those things that you'd think in a hypothetical future where teams can request a forfeit than the hypothetical evil gabe kappler would have tried to forfeit like twice in his first week and and he would have lost his head.

"You know clearly if you're going to have if you're gonna be in the lower end of stuff it's something that you want to be working on for sure if you're coaching a developing pitcher your advice would be to be chris sale to be chris sale yet be that guy try which painting made an a that words to just bits more like khris so easy someone is you give me a job what an oryx would you want a job like this he wouldn't rate if someone came to you and said you are the new gave kappler your player development director you can implement whatever policies you want is that something you would aspire to yes but not in the form that it is you know playing baseball is a is quite a commitment as the metal as many days i was very surprised to hear that too i'll work in baseball it's even more commitment if you ask them when they're down month is they say august that's in the season millions guy told me that it's october no i really do i do want to work with him i do want to work in baseball i'm i don't know if this year is the year maybe next year or something but you know that's boring said flicked personal kind of matters is a i really do want to work for a team there's just so many different the cities and things like that i have no allegiance to a team because they don't have any leads to me so i don't have any allegiance to a team like kind of like i do still root for the raise their very easy to route four you know but you know.
