"And i'm your host today. I have with me brand new girlfriend. Who name is tony do pre. Tony is an author public speaker and entrepreneur and she's well known for her long history of community and business leadership. She started on the path that would lead her to very successful career. At a young age fortuitously she was introduced to just the social graces as a child when she attended. Mildred johnson's charman etiquette academy in houston. There she learned how etiquette self esteem and presentation can be leveraged for success after excelling in academics. At jack yates high school and interior art school of design. It became her lifelong mission to help others come to the same understanding. She earned certification from the center for organizational cultural competence in winnipeg canada and completed coursework in psychology and behavioral analysis from kaplan university. Tony thank you so much for being with me today. What thank you for having me absolutely. I am so excited to get to know you. I wanna tell you something. It's not very often that i meet someone else. Who's gone through etiquette training. But i went to what was called a charm school when i was in middle school and i learned some lessons. I'll never forget. It was at a time in my life and it may have been elementary compared to what you went through. But i remember the teacher said i want you all to choose one thing that you really like about your physical appearance and i thought no. I have nothing and she was like you know. Thirteen awkward of embarrassed to be alive right. She goes joanne davis. That was my maiden name You have incredible is your eyes are green. There sparkly expressive. And you know. And i will never in. It's like okay. That's a superficial characteristic but to a thirteen year old girl. Who's looking anywhere for validation. I ate that up. And i didn't become vain about it but i think what i did is i learned a lesson on perspective in that moment because i wait a minute. She's noticing something. Wonderful about myself that i didn't even ever consider beautiful with somebody can notice saying you're is just something common. You just use a miscount utility for acting that you really thinking about. And somebody's scrapping them like their dams that they found in one is going to affect you that right even as a compliment like that with yes i agree and actually i kind of wish remember who that was. I should ask my mom. I haven't thought about that story in a really long time. In fact. I don't even know if it's a story. I've never even told anyone think that's just something i carried around in my own little heart. Yeah okay we'll feel in the blinks. What did i miss about who you are and what you do like. You said an etiquette coach a ride a little bit and lived in houston texas. I have two dogs one meridian. He is holy tara and have a bit. Who is the biggest sweetest baby. I'm married a lives in a really hot hot place. Limoges too hot is hot in hotter. are you melting. like knelt. To help is like a lot of times. And i run this little etiquette businesses call etiquette and style by free. And i love. it is fun you know. Just show people how to bring quality to. I love it when we lived in reno nevada. There is a gal she has actually been on my podcast chicago. She's a stylist but she did what she called fashion camps during the summer for high school girls. I never had an opportunity. Put my kids through it. But she taught not only fashion but self confidence and etiquette and those things. I think we forget to realize how really important they are especially during the developmental years. And then if you don't learn it in the developmental years then it's important whenever you can grasp the concepts because presentation and our behavior is what the outside world sees. They respond us based on what they see. They do a toner. We'll tell me about your book so started from the tea. Cup is a straight talking. Weighty communication book. it's about how we engage how choose to engage with one another the choices that we make during conversation is about best practice. Have a handle those obscene bounds. You know. could you wanna experience those ups and downs have stay confident through some of those turbulent times when you are meeting new p. or you haven't you go how to let and still maintain yourselves confidence A lot of times. You have to let things go rookie heart right up to chest cavity the how to maintain and still walk away from a situation in that rendering another person incapacitate. It's a l'amiral nuggets about just being better in the commonplaces the life man. that's awesome. I have to admit to you because we scheduled this interview really fast. I haven't read your book yet. I'm excited to read it. And by the time this podcast goes live. I will have read it and i will be giving one listener a book. I'm going to order from my local bookseller here in missoula montana. So it's kind of a win win win supporting local businesses. Thank you yeah. You're so welcome. I'm excited to do that so listeners. To enter to win tony's book. "To the concert date, Justin Timberlake, uses Instagram posts, most of his big news. He said this message this morning, quote, I've had to postpone several tour dates due to bruised vocal cords. My vocal chords are healing. But they are not all the way back to normal yet. So my doctors want me to continue to rest, my voice. I'm really sorry. I wanna be back on the stage. And I'm doing all I can to get there quickly. He did mention there would be more to come on the rescheduled dates and so far the responses from fans on Instagram has been positive the hashtag he's worth waiting for and feel better soon or common comments. Now, this is his man of the woods tour that he promoted as the halftime performer at last year's Super Bowl. You may remember that got quite a lot of hype JT also had to cancel previous tour dates one at Madison Square Garden, one of the most premier concert venues in the country with more than twenty thousand seats. Now, he did say in that case he'd rescheduled that show for his birthday January thirty first so we'll have to see if and when he plans to return to the circle city guys Brenna, thank you police in Indianapolis are asking for help finding a ten year old boy his name is Taylor. And Baker police say he was last seen at his home on west more drive near tenth and north girl school road. And I think he ran away after getting in trouble Baker was last seen wearing a black jacket with a Tokyo emblem. He may also be wearing. A black winter hat dark pants and dark shoes. Anyone with information about where he might be asked to call nine one one developing this morning police now say someone killed a man found dead in a home on the north side of Indianapolis officers. I went to the house yesterday morning to check on someone. They say they found the front door unlocked and the man dead inside. No one else was home. Police have now confirmed it as a homicide, but haven't said what happened inside the house. They have not released the man's name or any information on who may be responsible for his death. Brightwood colleges closing everywhere including its campus in Indianapolis for profit. College system has a huge debt years of struggles. It was known as Kaplan university until changed brightwood as part of a late effort to survive. The news about the shutdown comes as a surprise to many, including a professor we spoke with who says she decided the new contract to teach there. We also talked to a guidance counselor.

"Our data science program at Berkeley was literally the first of its kind, no one had ever done data science and that particular dean, she's incredible. She basically pounded me to do it. We didn't wanna do it. I, this is way before like sort of data was hot and she insisted we do it and we eventually listened to her. Now it's super obvious that that was a twin. So finishing up, just I want to talk with the broader finishing up. When you think about online education is use initiative be more, is it going to what do you think the impact will have more people are educated or that. That go to colleges. May not have seen this, but something fascinating just happened where Purdue University acquired is Ohio right? Pretty. Where's Purdue? Indiana, Indiana? Sorry, Purdue acquired Kaplan university. The for profit. Yes, and turned it into Purdue global. It's sort of a notable moment because what you have is you have a major state flagship embracing what would have been and still is somewhat controversial. You know, ten years ago Kaplan was was pretty controversial, but Kaplan is trying to educate by the Washington Post was. Yeah, they did mostly SAT, right. It was mostly a well. Kaplan way back was desperate ten overtime got into becoming a four profit university. And so what I think's fascinating is where the space is going over having a state flagship purchase a former for profit and offer that kind of programming more broadly tells you where the world's going and does that impact your business. Because if they're if all the individually. All eventually like you think about a lot of internet things before it was done by a lot of people, then everyone just had it in house. I would say in general, we believe that that's more good for our business than bad. Like puts a lot of wind at our back as online Ed gets more accepted, right? Just once again, online education people don't think is any good over time as it becomes more obvious to people. It'll make our job marketing for our university partners easier. There will be some competition, but the market is so big, right? Like I feel like we're to you is right now is we're Amazon and the stage where they were adding the tabs by the way Amazon's getting into this business kidding. Well, no, they will. What are you talking about? Amazon get into every business, but from from the standpoint of like our overall get into this business, of course. Well, they already have. They already do internal corporate training. Right? And that'll be where they start..

"Amount of lives that you can reach and connect with with and those steps that you took were steps that increased the growth i mean even asked today are just going to be audio and you're like no i want to invest in video i want invest in the video content because everybody watches tv everybody watches continental line and allows you even this different type of engagement that some people like so we have people watching the video people listening to the audio now most of them are listening to the audio but you've continued to invest in the things that potentially could pay off attention could be innovative in your space and i think podcasters that have allowed themselves to get in the video space have seen that the growth is there you know and that also shows about the facebook show i mean they're focused on creating great video content out there for their audiences with facebook while doing the job would just had a call with their teasing yeah we're not allowed to share certain things but they are really innovating their platform so look at the growth of facebook in general how far it's come over the last ten plus years they continue to innovate and because they're innovating and investing they're putting a lot of money into original content and all these incredible shows and they're putting money into it they're innovating their platform for years ago i don't even think there was video on facebook i think in just started with video on facebook a few years ago now they're putting a lot of their emphasis on video in original content longer form content and it's paying off they're getting their users to stick around longer and it's helping build their business and make an impact and that was my intention with them was let's find the biggest distribution partner in the world you know they've got two billion on facebook they've got i believe it was a billion active day the members on instagram so i'm sure there's cross promotion there are people who are you know instagram on facebook but there's probably and then they got a billion i believe on what's app billion on messenger or something crazy like that they've probably got a few billion in their ecosystem you world remember getting on facebook you're at catholic it was like the time that we met was a ton of facebook came out and they were rolling out university after university and then kaplan university was ruled out and everyone joined and here we are today i mean it's it's unbelievable it's unbelievable and that's they've innovated that's it constantly innovate now side note there's ways to innovate in your life and your business we're probably focused more on the business side of things right here but i think of other business models the ones that in my mind correct me if i'm wrong haven't really innovate that much for a long time i think of one of the most successful ones here in california in and out which has been the same thing for i don't even know fifty sixty years or something i don't know how long they've been around but they have the same model same like franchise to franchise it's all family owned it's like five things you can order i don't think they've really innovative that much but they have lines outside of the building constantly yeah so maybe there's things they have innovated i'm not sure i think their brand is just they've done something with their brand i think that is pretty special i mean obviously the product.
