He's joining Fox's NFL kickoff, which is at 11 a .m. Eastern every Sunday little pregame action Julian Edelman Julian, how's it going? Going well, how are you doing? I'm doing well. I'm doing very well cuz football is here. So it was back Thank God is fully back. I Mean, I wish I wish the trends Kelsey wasn't hurt because I feel like that takes a little bit away from the opening game But it is what it is If you look at it though over the last However, many years the Kansas City Chiefs have been on this run. They've had relatively pretty decent help Throughout their whole thing. I mean they left they lost the left tackle in the Super Bowl That's why they lost against, you know, Brady they couldn't protect Patrick Mahomes but it's it's getting to that time in their Era it where gets hard, you know being a guy that's been on one of those teams a dynasty. They're not there quite yet but uh You know, they're well on their way if they could stay healthy and you would know better than anyone about dynasty So when would you say they're there? How many would they have to win before you say they're a dynasty everyone knows it's three Okay, I don't know what's going on. Everyone keeps on talking like oh This is you you into no, it doesn't matter if you get to the Super Bowl We went to eight straight AFC championships or something like that. Like you got to win three to get to be in Cowboys previous Patriots Niners Steelers It's not two. It's not two So tell me I want to get into your Fox gig and transitioning to meeting that since we're on it It's a good topic because I'm just curious because one of the things I'm looking at is someone who's scouting Over -unders to bet and and you know who's gonna win the AFC and stuff like that The I Motivation shouldn't say the motivation. I mean, I think the motivation is there even if you win But is it difficult or how difficult is it after winning two like they've won? It's very difficult To get geared up every Sunday, you know people don't realize How hard it is once you go out win a Super Bowl Okay, now they have two that when you win that first one you become a target everyone circles you on the schedule You win another one now everyone circling now now Divisions and conferences are designing their teams to beat you. So it gets harder and harder and as an individual player You know Your motivation you have to pull what what's motivating you because natural human instinct you're like You know, we got this we're good and then you know something happens you have injuries here an injury They're a player doesn't sign back because no two teams are the same. It's a new team every year. So it's very hard mentally To keep it going, you know And you have and they have a leader in Patrick Mahomes that can do that We had Tom Brady Tom Brady was always always on he was like he was always motivated So that gives you hope for the Kansas City Chiefs because they have such a great player and Patrick Mahomes who's their leader You know their best player is is their quarterback is their leader and the way he is is huge. Do you think? the intensity to beat the Chiefs to throne the Chiefs is Similar to what you guys experience and I ask you from this standpoint and I hope you don't take offense to this But I feel like I feel like the Chiefs are not hated in any way I'd feel like no one dislikes Mahomes No one dislikes Andy Reid you guys and I think it was mainly because of your success But there were people who didn't like Tom for whatever reason there was the ridiculousness with the flake eight the stupidest thing ever people didn't like Belichick, maybe You guys I don't think we're like Completely beloved whereas KC seems like I don't know who maybe people are sick of Travis Kelsey a little bit Like our teams you think is amped up to beat the Chiefs as they were you guys I Think the games changed the player has changed Just as an overall, I mean we look at games nowadays you got guys over here You know dapping up helping guys back back when we were playing the Jets when I first got in the league Bart Scott was mother -effing Billy O 'Brien on the sideline guys were fighting before, you know, it's just it's kind of changed And it could be for good or could be for bad. That's for weather for everyone else to determine But and also, you know, the Kansas City Chiefs that the Patriots were on it for 20 years Okay, like when I got there they already had three Super Bowls and they were on a little drought, you know But they were still winning, you know, they went 7 16 and oh they you know 14 win seasons they were still putting out big winning seasons for a long a longer time and You know the Chiefs just haven't been there I'm so I'm sure the Chiefs keep on doing well that people are gonna start hating them too, you know, yeah. Yeah The I want to get into some other stuff about the Patriots and and Belichick and Brady and but let's talk about you going to Fox you did inside the NFL. I enjoyed you on there I wrote that a couple times for SI. Now. You're gonna be on the Fox NFL kickoff show. It's remarkable I don't know if you've seen it Maybe you just know it off the top of your head because you friends with all these people but it is remarkable how every patriot is in media now is on TV, you know, you've got the McCordy's Gronk is part of the Fox family. Everyone knows about the Brady situation McGinnis the TV Bruschi It's like if you're on you were part of our Patriot team good love winners. Yeah people love winners Yeah, and they hate them so, you know you get a little bit of both They're either gonna love your hate you but they're gonna watch you It's like you had no choice but to go into TV basically after after all it's it's I don't know it's uh, You know when you play for an organization like New England and You've had the success that we had over the years that we played, you know It opens up a lot of doors and it's plain and simple. That's that's really what it is The the sacrifice and the efforts that we put into our career helped us after our career and a lot of guys you know, they have that hard work mentality that still want to stay in the game, but may not want to be coaches and And that's what media is, you know, that's what I feel. You know, I get my football fix by Going into a pre -production meeting and I haven't done it with Mike Vick or Charles Woodson or Chris and Thomas or Peter Shrager But you get your football locker room kind of vibe when you do those like when I was on inside the NFL I'm sitting there talking with Phil Simms Patrick, uh, you know, Brandon Marshall Michael Irving, Ray Lewis, James Brown and you have these These meetings where you just get to sit and talk football It's before you go on the lights are shining but you sit and you're talking stories You're breaking football down with people that play football So, I think that's a huge probably reason about it and you know, it's not you know We're used to putting in these crazy hours 14 -hour days Seven days a week don't get this year family and media, you know, like you got to do your homework You got to you got to watch all the games, but you know, we can still have a life outside of it, you know These guys are going coach. I mean people always ask me. Why aren't you in coaching and I go You know, I did my time Like I put my my 12 13 14 hour days in and when I would leave work I would see coaches families in the parking lot Seeing the coaches before they would go to bed because they still had another three hours. I ain't doing that Yeah, you know and then if you go somewhere else where it's not like that Then I'm mentally all messed up because well, there's some people that are doing it, you know So it's just I like I'm happy or I'm mad. I'm excited to go out and entertain and talk my knowledge When you were playing and you're playing days towards the end of your career Did you think you would get into TV or did you not think about it while you were playing? I Didn't necessarily think I'd become an analyst and do what I'm doing right now I always enjoyed creating content You know whether it was our YouTube videos our Instagram videos and all the content we build on J around je11 You know that was booming with with the Patriot nation that would always support, you know I always I found a niche in that and and I enjoyed that process of creating content going in and sitting in a you know in a editing room and and Filming up all this stuff and thinking it's gonna be terrible and then cutting it down and then you know having all your other team Because there's a team of people, you know That put put the work in to to get this good content out and I enjoyed it So I didn't know it was gonna be to the extent of what I'm doing right now but I knew you know, I was comfortable in front of a camera and you know, I know I faced for radio, but Thank God I won a lot of games Had it and just tell me were were there other networks like in the running to get your services Was it just Fox like I'd end up at Fox why Fox? Tell me a little bit about joining I want to say any other names there were, you know There was another network that was involved and I sat down and I thought Fox would be perfect You know, I got a couple teammates there with Gronk Brady You know, I'm really excited to get to hang out with you know Charles Woodson and in talk football with Mike Vick and Chris Thompson Peter Schrager and you know Fox is like a If you know the story behind Fox, I mean they were created as This little small sport network with John Madden.

"Jackson mahomes, the brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was booked into jail Wednesday on aggravated sexual battery charges over an alleged altercation at a Kansas restaurant in late February, the 22 year old Jackson mahomes was charged Tuesday in Johnson county, Kansas, with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of battery. He was being held on $100,000 bond. "All right folks will this next game that we've got Is going to be against our division rivals. The kansas talk Yeah so let's take a look at a couple of games for them. Their first game of the season was against the cleveland browns. That's who they played in the playoffs last year Let's see patrick. Joe tony and and I think this offensive line is going to be everything that people wanted to be. And i think in the end you gotta give it to one player and i you know everyone is either brand new or new to a position and i think by the season's end. We're gonna say joe. Tony has been about all the offensive lineman on that line are gonna go. It helps so much to have a proven anchor right in the interior to help. The young guys grow to help orlando brown. Make the transition to a different offense. He's been in that championship culture before and this line lost all their leader. So you know it just makes sense to me four for tuning to kinda the representative of that bunch And then on the defensive side. I think chris jones is gonna get fifteen plus sacks so when you do that on a team like the chiefs i have a hard time picking anyone else as very fair i. It's just. I can't argue kansas city though has so many guys to choose from. That's how you know they're so deep. I really like your joe tune pick. I wanted to pick some of the offense aligned. Because you know me. I think oh line makes more of a difference in the running back themselves..

That was the worst record of any of those quarterbacks so it really just shows how talent void this roster is and somehow you mentioned the new regime bringing in an old coach in cali but the organization really doubled down on that approach and they've managed the impossible really of having the oldest roster in the nfl with below average cap space. It's not a good combination. And so you know you start to look at the four wins last year and how they achieved it and it was still an offense that was above average inefficiency thirteenth. And now you have this. Massive downgraded quarterback and i mean tyrod taylor is what he has. He's thirty two and the best attributes about him are his athleticism his quickness. How fast he is but at thirty two those of all those things and so this is just a monster downgrade. You do look at the schedule of defenses. That the texans will play its. It's bottom six overall and against the oh. There is some hope there. I guess defensively that is going to still be a problem. You're looking at a unit that finished thirtieth inefficiency. The schedule of offense is this year are going to be really good. Can be hovering around the top. Five rate in basically overall efficiency passing offense all of those key areas I i don't really know how this team's going to get to their win. I think there's a very good chance to to rookies. Starting very very good but yeah you have to be concerned. How good you look in camp. How good you look in practice when you've got shells on okay. "Let's talk about. This is interview. That alex smith did. He was just asked about the roger situation. And it really. It turned out to be like what a lot of people were calling a great pr interview for the chiefs. Because they asked him about rogers and how they handle it and so. I think it was the dan patrick show and they asked him. Like how did the chiefs the chiefs tell you before they drafted. And if you don't i'm talking about obviously aaron rodgers very disgruntled with packers says he wants out and a lot of it seems to stem from the fact that a couple of years ago they took jordan love in the first round instead of help for their super bowl contending team and help for rogers so and they didn't tell him that he didn't know they just drafted this guy so the question was you know what what did the chiefs do when they took mahomes. Did they tell you that they were doing. And here's what alex smith said. He said absolutely that had been communicated the entire season leading up to that the entire offseason by multiple multiple people. Everybody in the personnel department coach. Reid constantly there were multiple phone calls about what was happening. That happened when we drafted cap with coach harbaugh. When he was in san francisco. I know well. I knew well in advance what the team was thinking the route that they were going to go and i think that makes a difference. It does honestly and errands case going out of your way to let him know how the team feels about them. How the organization feels about them. How important he is and that. Potentially they're thinking this route and explaining their thinking clearly from an outside looking in it didn't happen and it didn't take place so first of all alex smith was this was just the chiesa. They respected the hell out. Alex smith right. Yes alex smith and the same thing with the forty niners. Anybody who you over here. Talk about alex. Smith just raised about the guy and what a professional he is but both of these teams did with a guy who was not on the level of a roger mahomes. He wasn't the franchise. They're drafting quarterbacks. For a reason right what what are the what were the packers thinking here to not involve aaron rodgers and say and i think here's the thing these athletes unfairly get called prima donnas a lot of the time and i think that in a situation like this. It's you know you get fans on there and they're they're always taking this out of the ownership enrich billionaires for some reason. I don't understand but they're like oh well you know it's booze news and they need to look for the future of the team which i think aaron rodgers understands that. I think the idea here is that like if you can't be like let's have a conversation about it. Shows me that you value me right now. And everything i've done for this franchise. I brought this franchise tons of money. I brought this ranch as a super bowl championship. And you just like you go and make this massive move without even consulting them. The leader of the team. What are these teams thinking when they when they do this stuff. Well in this case not much sometimes players are premadonna sh and sometimes you know that that is totally fair. Characterization of away guy accent also fans root for ownership in these skirmishes because they for the laundry. They root for the they were for the team and the team is represented by ownership players. Transient ownership runs a team. So on and so that said aaron rodgers has every right to be pissed the dated explain to him.

Obviously just because so many things can go wrong. it's football. it's a weirdly shaped ball that stuff but when you look at them. Last year i mean they. They went in my view. They went fourteen right like that last game. Throw it out. I think the homes is playing. They would have beaten the chargers but you never know they could have slipped up but they lost it in my view last year. They lost two games. They were trying to win. That was that raiders game and the super bowl which is incredible. And this is. This is the season after they won the super bowl which historically teams do not make it back a little bit of a super bowl hangover. Right so i think we all agree that they didn't play great last year. They didn't play up to their standards. And every game they they drove us a little bit crazy but they always found a way to win from a mentality standpoint. How is this team differ going into the season because for me i feel like if there was a season where they would have a chance to go undefeated. It would be this season because from mentality standpoint. You got a lot of guys coming back. That are pissed off pissed off that they lost super bowl pissed off about the way that they lost the super bowl. And so maybe whereas the twenty twenty cheese kinda thought like yeah like You know it's all about the super bowl for us. We just need to get to the regular season so they sleep walk through some games. They turn it on they win. Could we see a team this year. That comes out just there. I think for a team to go undefeated..

That baseball were baseball. You get paid for what you have done in football. You typically get paid for what you think you can do. So no one's paying brilliant for what he's done with kansas city. "Receiver like even completions against him are contested but shot. Just one of those guys where you know every opposing receiver has fought for whatever success. They had he sticky as hell. Sticky as helen is receiver. And so i'm just a little flummoxed. I'm not saying he's. He's not a lockdown corner. We all know those few. And far between i wouldn't even say about julius need because he only has one year a in on his resume. But here's brillant. He's got a few. He's got more than a few years on his resume. He's got a couple years of excellence in kansas city. And and you're right. He's been playing on proved deal since he was like twenty six. Yeah that's a little bananas to me. That's bananas and i understand the off the field concerns but that hasn't stopped a lot of guys in the past hasn't stopped teams from from citing at some point. You know i think teams are like they they they use it against them but they're not going to say okay. We're not gonna sign you like. He's obviously going to get a deal. I'm just at cornerback. And i understand. It's such a volatile year over year. It's like relievers in baseball. It's tough to find a lot of consistency but someone who has consistency typically gets big deals or at least some security and he's been consistent. He had a look at the stat. It was forty nine percent against you know passer completion which is elite. That's you know half the passes don't get completed when he's the targeted cornerback. And sometimes i just feel like we look at all these things and say oh by the penalties but penalties quarterbacks get beat. No one's perfect. If you watch your quarterback every single game for an entire season you're gonna be like. Oh he gets burn a lot dozen and then you realize oh my god. He's because literally everyone at some point gets burnt. Just think that we need to put more respect on what bruin has done and what he is as of as far as a good really good cornerback..

"Is a real fire here. The shod breeland d like he went to go visit the minnesota vikings. There has been nate. Taylor who i love. Nate taylor of the athletic has put it out there. That like saying there's really real sort of indications that the cheese have been interested in bringing him back and he wants to be back. So like i mean are you reading these tweets thinking they are all based on the chiefs and and maybe some things up there. I i'm reading it based on a guy who has played really well if you look at some of the underlying numbers that put him in. I don't wanna say elite although the numbers have actually been elite but we're not going to say he's but put him in that bottom end of the cornerback one top in cb two range and he's getting paid for the past multiple seasons as if he's on a one year proven deal. I think he's just realizing you know what eventually had to stand up and say how many one year prove it deals. Do i need to take before eventually. I'm going to be too old and in the rest of my career is going to be one year deals. i think it's just. He feels he deserves to get a. And i'm not saying a ridiculous contract but he does deserve to get some security. Whether that's a three year. I don't know twenty million dollar contract. I think he has earned that. And i don't blame him for being sick of one year deals. I guess that's where i'm coming for. As i i would understand that when you're looking at some of these numbers and ought to pull up the stat. And he was above like to gilmore and somebody's great cornerbacks. You're like the only thing you can say is penalties at some point. You have to pay for how good and solid. He has been.
